something that really stands out to me about dungeon meshi is that its not like its got these really complex and profound themes coyly tucked away behind a bunch of goofy food/cooking motifs. the goofy food/cooking motifs ARE the complex and profound themes, and the real "oh" moment that notoriously hits everyone like a freight train when theyre reading/watching it isnt the realization that theres story here, but the realization that there was story all along. like. dungeon meshi is about food but its also about hunger. its about ecosystems but its also about community. its about the natural cycle of life/death but its also about legacy. its also about izutsumi

Kind of hilarious to me how poorly the title "Mob Psycho 100" localized to English-speaking areas. To someone whose first language is English, it scans as:

Mob (Yakuza, Mafia)

Psycho (violent person with "crazy" behaviors)

Thus: a particularly violent member of organized crime.

But in Japanese it scans as:

Mob (background characters in crowd scenes in manga or anime)

Psycho (short for psychic)

Thus: a psychic who looks/acts like someone you'd never pick out of a crowd scene in a comic.

wait sorry unrelated but I just read a post about wwx postcanon and how it's a happy ending for him because he's in a stable place, with the person he loves, reaching out to jin ling, bonding with the other juniors, asking after wen ning, etc. and the post mentioned that because he has such strong support network he's able to recover from his past life and look to the future, which is all stuff I generally agree with, and it has this reply

far be it from me to claim to be an authority on traditional Chinese wuxia heroes but I feel like that's an oversimplification? wwx isn't exactly the same as any other traditional folkloric hero, and the author was acutely aware of the suffering he went through. and (I thought) she deliberately wrote him as recovering from what happened to him through his postres storyline through his connection to and support from lwj. like...man maybe I just saw what I wanted to see. idk! it's not how most western stories would handle trauma but it's not like he or the author COMPLETELY ignored it. wwx drinks wine and comiserates in 43 to lwj, I'd consider that processing what happened to him. and wwx visiting BM and reflecting on what happened there...oh fuck that's drama only. OH in the novel the three jiang kids come back together after they retake LP and cry together, that's definitely part of their processing!

and also!!! WHY is trauma in quotes like it's made-up 😭 also wwx literally has a phobia of dogs from being chased on the street as a child and I think trauma exists in the story as a real and recognized force so even if they don't deal with it it's very silly to put it in quotes. I think idk I'd be interested in what other ppl think too

thedunmeshi/iwtv annoying fandom poll is so funny bc literally all the replies are 'why are either of these here? this poll doesn't matter bc whoever wins will be voted out anyway.' and like 15 people said how chill DM fans were. now the tags do document some truly terrible issues in the iwtv fandom (racism, abuse apologism) AND ways dunmeshi fandom is shitty (infantalizing autism, being racist about toshiro) but I don't think either of them can really compare to any other fandom on that poll. dunmeshi is also everywhere so I get people being annoyed by it even tho I. surprised it was nominated and think most of the posts are good, but iwtv being called annoying really came as a shock. there's definitely issues with the way fans interact with it but nothing so petty as to be called annoying and nothing close to fucking. ofmd or barbie
