Deltarune is about many things - about growing up, about fantasy and reality, about games and how we as players interact with them... but it's also about legacy.
Yes, in the big meta sense, it's about how this game is following up from Undertale, one of the most beloved and successful indie RPGs of all time. But also you have Kris learning to live outside of Asriel's shadow, you have Noelle struggling to cope with her sister's disappearance and her father's illness, Susie flailing around for a foothold in a new town with peers who don't like her very much, Berdly doing his utmost to live up to his "smart genius" label so he can actually be known for something.
You have Ralsei who finds himself at a crossroads between fulfilling a predetermined prophecy to save the world, and forging his own identity separate from his willingness to serve any "higher" authority. You have King, a ruler who became a tyrant so that his people could be free.
You also have Alphys, struggling to fill the rather large boots of her predecessor, Gerson Boom, who had a career in smithing, wrote a series of hit fantasy novels, and was an excellent teacher according to his son Alvin. (I wanna talk more about this, but it's going in its own post because of reasons)
A character's legacy, the thing that they will be known for, the thing they struggle to actualise so that people will like and accept them, can be a powerful driving-force, giving them agency to fulfill their ambitions. But that same legacy can also be a millstone, forcing them onto a narrowly-defined path through life, burdening them with the crushing weight of others' expectations, and trapping them into a version of themselves they may not wish to be.
Legacy can be difficult to escape from, perhaps even impossible in some cases. It can feel like there's no other choice but to press onward, to be what others want or expect from you, to do what you are told, to try and live up to a golden predecessor who could do no wrong in the eyes of their admirers. It can feel like what you want, what you choose for yourself, doesn't actually matter, because in many ways that choice has already been made for you. And to rebel against that choice risks disappointing the people closest to you, risks losing your reputation, risks the comfort of a predictable path forward, and in extreme cases risks losing your own sense of identity.
I think this theme is going to continue to develop throughout Deltarune, and I very much look forward to seeing how it all plays out!

Guardian: The lonely and great god 쓸쓸하고 찬란하神 – 도깨비
Review and rambles
4. Guardian: The lonely and great god (9/10)
(16 Episodes) (2016)
Tumblr media
[Gong Yoo, Lee Dong-wook. Kim Go-eun]
Synopsis:
A once highly decorated military general from the Goryeo Dynasty, Kim Shin is framed as a traitor and killed. He is cursed by the Almight to stay immortal forever and has to endure seeing his loved ones die as punishment for all the soldiers he killed. He becomes an immortal goblin who helps people with their problems. The only way to end his painful existence is through the Goblin bride who is destined to pull the sword embedded in his chest and thus ending his immortality. Enter Ji Eun-tak a bubbly and jovial high school teenager, despite the tragic life she has had. Through chance and fate, she summons the Goblin and their lives become intertwined. In addition, Kim Shin’s nephew leases his house to a Grim Reaper and the three end up living together as they try to wade through their fates. It’s not all left to chance as the story unfolds, it reveals that they’re not mere strangers but people with closely related relations.
Review:
When it comes to fantasy kdramas – or just kdramas in general, this one carries the entire genre on its back. It’s breathtakingly, heartbreakingly beautiful and filled to the brim with everything you want in a kdrama.
Not going to lie, it’s pretty heavy on the plot and intense dialogue. There is a lot of self -reflection and a lot of the characters are wrapped in tight angst blankets. But … is that not what we live for?
The chemistry between Kim Shin and Ji Eun-tak  was interesting because its not quite what you’d expect but somehow it still manages to tear your heart into pieces (don’t worry, they put it back together again). I felt like we definitely could have had more from the nephew (Yook Sung -jae) as he was particularly enjoyable. The secondary couple, the Grim Reaper (Lee Dong Wook) and  Sunny (Yoo In-na) steal the show more than the first at times and its beyond charming. They’re amazing together and bring a much-needed touch of light-heartedness to an otherwise very heavy on the feels plot.
The issues surrounding life and death, mortality and such are well introduced into the show. The whole series is quotable and don’t we just love that from a drama? They give you plenty to think about yet it somehow doesn’t feel too heavy on the mind.
The cast and performance:
The amazing performance by Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook is unforgettable. Honestly, they steal the whole damn show. I’d watch a whole spin off series based on the adventures of the Goblin and the Grim Reaper. A good source of the humour and heartfelt moments comes from these two. Its almost unintentional and that what kinda steals your heart and breath all in one go. Kim Go-eun is a stunning female lead. She lends a good performance to a very demanding role and her character develops well over the episodes.
OST:
This is a therapy kdrama. If you need the emotional release, this what you should be watching. And if you don’t want to watch it, just listen to the soundtrack because that too was flawless. Seriously, just go listen to this OST because it is one that you will not regret. It’s got some of the most iconic and well-known tracks to come from a kdrama series. I’m pretty sure Stay with me has its own fanbase at this point. There are plenty of wonderful tracks that could float the entire fandom with all the tears you’re bound to shed.
 Final thoughts:
The first episode opens with a heartbreak and the last episode does not hold back any punches either but it does provide you with an ending that fills you with hope as there is a semblance of a happy ending. This kdrama takes you on one helluva emotional rollercoaster but you won’t regret it one bit. It’s an absolute journey and for anybody wanting to appreciate Kdrama at its ultimate peak should definitely give this a watch.

And the two lovers embraced
Eachother
Unaware of the two pair of eyes watching them.
"Such a mundane feeling" said a soft but ancient female voice , " To be loved. Makes the wisest of them blind to the ephemral illusion it casts on them. "
"It is that illusion " rumbled the male, his voice full with the wisdom of ages but body still in its youth," That gives them hope. That maybe there is a better world ahead to strive for. "
The female laughed quietly with an orphic grace, tone entwined with dark humour, she asked, "But who is to tell them that dare not even the mightiest of the gods to crave the sapling at the bottom of Pandora's box ." the male stiffened slightly, his edges turning lethal as she continued, " That their beloved yarn of hope is idling away , while they are weaving a tapestry of hallucinations?"
"Quite the rhetorical question don't you think? " said the male, his eyes honed with wit. The female leveled him with a sharp gaze as she countered, " And yet still a question it remains."
They both turned now towards the lovers if only for a second, then dispersed into the shadows, thus seizing the conversation between Fate and Destiny.

Final Fantasy XV - Fate & Destiny
note: mild language/trauma
Chapter Eleven, Part Two
The ground below Noctis gave way and he fell, sliding down the smooth embankment. I watched with horror and a bit of pride as Gladio went after him, as was his duty. Just in front of them, the Titan rose.
The Titan, one of the Six Gods of this world, the Star of Eos, was also one of its greatest saviors. As I said, when the Meteor was about to crash onto our Star, large enough to cause worldwide destruction, the Titan caught it on his back, holding it aloft to this day. The impact still left this crater, the Disc of Cauthess, and in places, the Meteor still burned and lava flowed at the Titan’s feet. Weary with exertion over his accomplishment, the Titan slept, the Meteor still resting on his shoulders, until he could regain his strength and do with it as he saw fit, whether that be set the Meteor down or hurl it back into space. But now, his gaze was set upon Noctis. One eye was, anyway; there was a shard of the meteor through his right eye.
From above, watching Noctis and Gladio disappear from view, I clung tightly to each of the remaining boys shoulders.
“Noct, you okay?” Prompto sounded scared.
Ignis, as usual, was more level-headed. “Is there any way back up?”
“No,” came Noct’s voice, and we each breathed a sigh of relief to hear him, “you guys just look for a safer way down.”
The three of us broke into a sweat as we made our way down turning paths, with pockets of rock which fumed heat and sometimes molten rock. It was an arduous process, and our breathing was labored, both by the workout and the excruciating heat. We met Noctis at the bottom just as he was dodging the Titan’s sweeping left hand, which was twice as large as Noct’s entire body. My heart leapt into my throat, noticing Noct fought alone.
“Where’s Gladio?” I shouted.
“On his way,” His Highness assured me, slicing at the Titan’s stony hand as it made to knock him over again.
We were also quite surprised when several Magitek Engines appeared above us, distracting the Titan and allowing us to fight. It wasn’t until Ignis ordered me to take aim at the Magitek soldiers that I realized what the Empire was really trying to accomplish: to take down the Titan themselves. With my whip, I knocked away pull lines they tried to hook into him while Noct and the others continued their fight. When the Titan fell forward and the fight appeared over, the Archaean revealed to the prince that his betrothed, the Oracle, Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, had begun to convene with the Gods. This meant she was asking for their blessing in supporting Noctis as the Chosen King. This fight was simply to prove Noct’s worth, and with the Titan’s support, he was one step closer to his title. At this point, the Titan had had enough of these Imperial Warships buzzing around his head. He smashed what ships he could reach, causing an earthquake which tore another hole in the earth. Lava began to pool around us, leaving us scrambling for higher ground as the earth under our feet melted.
And to our perturbation, one more ship appeared, with Ardyn bestowing his ‘kindness.’ We were loathe to trust this man, but this time, Ardyn properly introduced himself as Ardyn Izunia. The name meant nothing to me, but Ignis questioned, “Imperial Chancellor Izunia?”
“The same. Come aboard, I guarantee safe passage. Or die in the rubble. It’s all the same to me.”
Ignis made a fair point, saying how we couldn’t die here, we had no other option. And so we were brought aboard the Imperial Warship. We were rescued by the same man who may or may not have had a hand in the attack on Insomnia that ultimately killed Noctis and Gladio’s fathers.
We sat on the floor of the Imperial machine, quietly discussing our options for when we landed. Where was he even going to let us out? It turned out, not too far from my home in the forest of Duscae. But we had a bigger problem- the Regalia was missing. The Empire had clearly ‘taken it for safe keeping’ during the Titan fight, but it was not returned to a specified location.
Under the authority of the High Commander, the Imperial War Strategist, most of the road blockades had returned ‘for public safety.’ Ignis suspected it was a tactic to keep us under surveillance, or at least keep us locked down to this region. In the meantime, Noctis had called Cindy, asking her to keep an ear out for the car, and of course, to my annoyance, Prompto was bouncing over his shoulder just to hear her voice.
Without the car, I made a suggestion. “If we kill Deadeye, we could start using Chocobos to travel.”
“Oh dude!” Prompto grabbed onto my shoulders and kicked his feet in the air, “I do love the way you think!”
“I suppose you do make a convincing argument,” Ignis acknowledged, his gloved fist on his chin.
We walked up the winding road toward Wiz’s Chocobo Races, a road I knew by heart, and although I was excited to see Wiz, my pace slowed. Gladio put an arm around my shoulders, pulling me close.
“Worried about your mom?” he asked.
I nodded, and he smiled down at me, promising, “I’ll talk to Noct. See if we can stop by between missions, alright?” He kissed my cheek and encouraged me to jog alongside him. We passed by the others, running faster than them, and found that although the race track was closed, there were still people milling around the premises. A few rows of Chocobos were out in their pens, enjoying the sunlight, and Prompto was the first one over to pet them. While he took pictures of and with them, Noctis, Ignis and I spoke with Wiz Forlane, the owner of the racetrack and issuer of the Deadeye bounty. I had known Wiz for many years, and he was like an uncle to me. He was proud to see my Crownsguard uniform and that I had taken up the hunt like my father. I could see he was apprehensive about my fighting abilities, but when Gladio approached and set a strong arm around my waist, saying he’d watch out for me, Wiz nodded and gave us directions on where Deadeye was last seen. My heart was pounding in my ears, but like every other matter in my life, there was no turning back.

The Definition of Insanity
You snap wires.
Frantic fingers spindle across the inky blackness, taking hold of taut strings the colour of poison. You retch slightly as they pull apart in your hands, bursting like blood vessels and staining everything they touch with the stench of death.
You snap wires.
And all the while, his voice bores into your skull, wheeling and dealing even as he tries to kill you. Even as you try your very hardest to give him what he wants.
You snap wires.
SOUL burning hot like a phoenix in its final moments, shooting down offer after offer, pleading with this jittering, broken creature to stop, stop, please stop before one of us does something we're both going to regret...
You snap wires.
You can't remember how long you've been doing this for. You don't even know what you're doing, why you ever listened to his words in the first place. What had he promised in the space between his outbursts... and to whom?
And still, you snap wires. It's either that or die.
So you snap, and you snap, and you snap, and you
snap
Then there's only one left, shimmering in the darklight, so gossamer-thin that you cannot comprehend how it can still support the clanking, man-shaped junk it's attached to. He spins around it like a demented ballerina, professing heartfelt thanks to the friends he was trying to murder mere seconds before. Pleading with you to cut the final cord, to make him a real boy.
Your fingers move before you can respond. And the sound of his cold, lifeless body slamming into the ground stays with you for the rest of your life. The shock is so great that you almost collapse yourself, adrenaline finally loosing its death-grip on your body.
You are wracked with a great and terrible sigh, before you--/
/--snap wires.
...strings the colour of poison... bursting like blood vessels... stench of death.
...you've been here before, you realise, as you snap wires.
He wheels and deals, firing everything he has at you in a vain attempt to get you to give him what he wants. You would if you could... if it had ever been in your power to do so.
All you can do now is snap wires. And that is all you do.
Your fingers move on their own, as if compelled by an outside force. Pinch and twist, reminding you of shelling peas with your mom before Sunday dinner.
You can't recall the last time you saw her. You think that perhaps you should apologise to her if you ever make it out of here alive. You were always such a wilful child. Always getting into trouble of some kind or another.
And now here you were, making deals with something you couldn't even begin to fathom.
You cannot hear your friends anymore - they do not respond to you calls. And the salesman seems to become all-encompassing before you, drunk on ill-gotten power - power you helped him acquire. You close your eyes as he makes you an offer that you are unable to refuse.
Pain washes over you, and you--/
/--snap wires.
Poison... Blood... Death... this could be the fifth time; it could be the five-hundredth time. It doesn't matter, because all you can do is snap wires.
The salesman screams at you, and your SOUL screams back, roaring with anger and pain and frustration. Does it want the same thing as you do? Is it... trying to help? Or... or is this just a game to it. Fighting the same battle again and again, trying for a high score?
You ponder this as it makes you snap wires.
Perhaps this was punishment for trying too hard. For trying to help somebody who seemed to be suffering. You never understood what your mother meant when she told you the road to hell was paved with good intentions. To your child's mind, not yet versed in the world's wicked ways, this statement was a nonsense, an affront.
But now you get it, as you snap wires. Oh God, do you understand.
You always knew he was the same as you. Something BIG had seized his heart, just as it has seized yours. Prisoners of a destiny that was not theirs. You saw a caged bird crying for release, but you did not see the venomous spider using its corpse as a suit. In trying to make him more like you, you exposed yourself to the risk of becoming more like him.
Damaged. Deranged. Desperate. Dangerous.
And as your fingers become snared in his wires, and you stare transfixed into each other's eyes, you see the fate set out before you, and scream.
______________________________________________________________
You snap wires.
Sometimes, you live.
Sometimes, you die.
It doesn't matter.
You snap wires.

Collateral Damage
We are bad in someone’s story. We are good too in someone’s story. In one, we are something, and in the other, we are nothing. and nothing is something too—something that irritates, sucks, and makes life hell. Being social creatures, interactions are the fabric of life. Even the recluse living in the mountains interacts with passersby once in a while. and the more we interact, the more we act…
