This AU. Take a WILD guess what. Jkjk but uhhh basically these guys got gifts, and they hide it from the family. Because why not.

Candy girl 🗣️🗣️🗣️ no butttt uhhhh. Basically like a reverse Hansel and Gretel, and whenever anyone mentions “the witch” they’re like “oh that’s Abuela”.

Also yeah, their clothes are made of candy and their hair is cotton Candy🤠

The disappearance of the Madrigal Family⁉️⁉️ basically an AU where the Madrigals, one by one, from Antonio to Alma, just. Disappears, seemingly without a trace. And Mariano is the only one who seems to remember or care. So, he’s gonna find em. Cause he’s gangsta.

Dolores and Mariano

Since Mariano found out about the joke that Dolores played on Isabela when they were still dating about having 5 children, and seeing that in reality they were not far from the number, Mariano jokes about having one more child. Dolores is not very amused by this joke.

A lot of people in the fandom have already said this before, but I gatta say it as well. I absolutely love that Mariano isn’t your stereotypical handsome jock character, who’s a prissy jerk obsessed with himself, only caring of his looks or obsessing over Isa and nothing else.

We didn’t get a lot of Mariano in the film, what we have about him is the bare minimum information and crumbs, but you can tell he’s layered. Instead of being a one note handsome pretty boy, he’s actually very kind, thoughtful, and caring. During the events of the film, he develops a genuine romantic crush on Isabela, wanting to impress her. They could have so easily made him that stuck up dude who flexes and brags about his good looks, but instead he genuinely liked Isabela, and wanted what was best for her. He planned to propose with a romantic speech, and even wanted to play the piano for everyone. During the dinner scene, he even asks Mirabel if she’s okay, not even looking or sounding annoyed and rude. Of course, you then have the sweet fact that he writes poetry to his mother and takes care of her a lot, which I love so much. I also like the fact that he doesn’t get angry when he realizes Isabela didn’t want to marry him, sure it happened off screen, but as we saw, he was more disappointed because he’s clearly lonely and wanted someone to love, and in the end, he got that, with someone who loved so many things about him, not just for his looks but for his heart. I know it’s not a big deal to some, but to me it is because as said before, they could have so easily made him one note and mean spirited. I’m glad they didn’t go in that direction even if Mariano isn’t in the film a lot, but I will say I DEFINITELY want to see more or him, he seems like a lovable character, an absolute chad lol.

i couldn't not make an encanto animatic from this scene from The Gay Deceivers (1969). sadly, i don't have a better quality copy on hand (everything was filmed & edited on tektak) so to prove that i made it, here are some stills:

Beach town au

Ceremonies are a celebration, but the actual BIRTHDAY is deemed much more important. Gifts are a constant, but birthdays are special. They exist to celebrate that you actually made it this long. 

Mirabel does get a gift in this au but I’m not sure what yet. I just know it’s something that has to do with creation. 

Shells are used as currency, but some shells are left on the beach in case some sea creature needs it. As well as that, when baby turtles are hatching from the sand the villagers make sure to protect the lil dudes until they get to the water. It’s a tradition Pedro and his wifey started and everybody just hopped on board.

Dolores’ gift is something she can turn on and off at will. I saw someone have this theory and I stick with it. There’s no way in god's green earth Casita would give a gift of super hearing without giving her a choice in whether she can turn it on or off. 

Now, Julieta’s food is truly loved but her shaved ice and paletas (Ice pops) are a must have. Especially during the summer. She doesn’t use her gift all that much unless it’s an emergency.  So, she has no problem setting up a cart to give out summer treats and such. (But her family always get first dibs) 

Mariano and Dolores are getting married soon! It’ll be a beach wedding of course. The dress won’t be too big, seeing as it’s a little toasty in Encanto (I mean, people can do it but it’s going to be a hot wedding day if they do). Traditional wedding dresses in Encanto are sheer and short or with a long mermaid tail look but thin. 

Oh yeah, Isabela is a certified surfer (all the madrigals are) but she likes doing it more often.

Shells as currency is so cool. <33 I mean, it’s an island, currency being shells isn’t obviously an issue 😭 ALSO THE BABY TURTLES I’M CRYING 🦈🦈🦈 everybody hoping on board is so silly.

Love this au sm <3333 I like how the birthdays are way more important than the gift <333 like it’s not a ceremony, it’s a birthday celebration. I imagine the gifts are just viewed as some present by the candle/Casita. W Casita for letting Dolores’ gifts being a choice 🙏

I think?? They would still wear white/gold on their birthday, but they do that so that whoever’s birthday it is can stand out. Not that it’s hard to tell. Their birthday parties are always beach parties; I think Pedro and Alma gift them their first surfboard on their 5th birthday, cause they see them as old enough to start learning how to surf lmao

W Isabela and Julieta. Isabela has way too much fun in Isabela when she’s surfing. I also think she’s one of the main ones to help Antonio’s learn how (besides Mirabel), and I think she also insisted on teach Mirabel and Camilo when they were little.

IDK why people call Mariano dumb. We don't really see enough of him to make this assumption. All we can really see is that he's a big romantic and quick to fall in love because he has a lot of love inside. Plus I felt it was uncalled for when Isabela hit him (a second time) with one of her flowers.

Due to my annual rewatch I finally need to say something I haven't read anywhere:

Bruno's Vision about the Dolores shows that he didn't see far enough. He also did this with the vision that Mirabel sees, because he broke up before he could see the whole thing, or the true ending.

With Mirabel, he first sees her breaking (or not breaking) Casita, then she's there with him 10yrs later and tells him to see more, so he sees the butterfly and the Isabela Hug.

With the vision for Dolores he probably saw her being sad while looking at Mariano (or "A guy"), and probably COULD have seen more, if he just waited.

And that may be true for more than just these two visions.
