Two weeks ago, Kate Bishop saw you across the library.
She had just finished classes and was rushing to pick up a book she needed for an essay she HAD NOT started when she saw you.
She hadn't seen you around before, and Kate was instantly mesmerized by how your cute face scrunched as you kept your head low to read. Kate couldn't take her eyes away, and she got to see your smile when you enjoyed a particular moment of your book.
Kate loved seeing your smile and how your eyes lit up.
Kate looked at her phone and truly needed to find the book and leave now or never. But on that day, Kate Bishop was feeling bold. Blame on the need for a certain thrill since Clint took her off Hawkeye duties to focus on school, but Kate started walking towards you.
You, however, never saw or heard her coming. Not when she tripped over her own feet. And not even when she stumbled sitting down next to you.
You had no idea Kate Bishop existed.
Maybe you would have if you had your aids in, but they made you feel embarrassed and inadequate, something you've struggled with for years. Something a certain someone would help you with in time. But, for now, you choose to go without them 99% of the time.
So when Kate started with a simple greeting, that turned into an overcomplicated rambling where she gave you numerous unwanted compliments.
You didn't hear it.
In fact, you didn't even look over to the now slummed-over pretty girl with the blue-grey eyes until she slammed her head on the table in defeat.
The vibrations of the repeated knock of the head against wood alerting you.
You put a bookmark in your book before closing it to look around, hoping maybe someone lost their friend because you had no idea why she was sitting at your table.
But at last, no one had lost the captain of the archery team. So you waited for her to look up, hoping to get an answer, and when she did, you're lucky your mouth didn't drop open.
She was gorgeous. Stunning actually. You had no idea why she was sitting here, but now you didn't want her to leave. You were about to lift your hand when you saw her eyes open in shock before her pink lips started speaking a hundred miles per minute.
Too fast for you to keep up.
You tried to get her to stop, but before you knew it, the last thing you saw was her black ponytail bouncing away.
You didn't know what to make of the last two minutes, but there wasn't much you could do. So, with a frown and shrug of the shoulder, you returned to your book. Wishing you got a chance to say anything.
Exiting the library, Kate Bishop was red in the face. You had just sat there ignoring her as she tripped over all of her words and called you beautiful and babe within two sentences. She didn't know what was wrong with her. She wanted to stab herself with an arrow. Badly!
Kate shook her head because that wasn't even the worst part.
The worst part was when you finally looked at her. You acknowledged her. Kate was already embarrassed enough. So she apologized and claimed that she would never bother you again.
But yet here she was two weeks later. Spotting you from across the library just like before.
"Go!" Kate felt a nudge on her arm from her friend Laura Kinney—a fast friend of Kate after transferring from Canada a year prior.
Kate looked back at her friend. "Stop that! I'm not going." Laura rolled eyes. "You talked about this one chick not stop-"
"No! I talked about how I embarrassed myself once! You're the one who keeps bringing it up!"
Laura shook her head and nudged her friend again. "Go! She's cute, and if you don't go, I will." Kate turned her head to her friend, surprised, but saw that maybe her friend wasn't kidding. "Ugh." Kate turned back to look at you. "Fine! Okay! I'll try again!"
"Good luck!" Laura called out, knowing Kate would need it. Kate sent a thumbs up and did her best to calm her nerves. "Just apologize and don't ramble," Kate whispered to herself as she reached your table.
However, before Kate could do anything, you closed your book and turned away from Kate to put it in your bag—the action meant nothing to you. But to Kate, it would appear you didn't want anything to do with her.
That thought was further cemented when you got up without looking at her and started walking away.
Without realizing it, Kate began to walk after you.
Her walk turned into a quick jog when her brain finally caught up to what was happening. She was right behind you when she said: "Excuse me! Hi!"
Yet you kept walking.
Okay, the library is busy, and maybe Kate could've spoken up a bit louder, so she tried again, HOPING that you weren't actively trying to get away from her.
"Hi! Sorry to bother you, but I..." She trailed off when you kept moving forward, keeping your head staring straight ahead at the library's exit doors. Kate was growing embarrassed and did the one thing she could think of.
She ran ahead and turned around, stopping you in your tracks.
"Hi!" Kate breathed out with a wave, coming face to face with you for the first time. You looked up from her lips, surprised at who was standing in front of you.
It was her!
Hi. You waved back with a questioning look to Kate's beautiful eyes before looking down to her lips—something Kate noticed.
"Sorry to bother you, but I don't know if you remember me but..." That was all you caught reading her lips before Kate started speaking quicker and quicker than you could process.
In your defense, even Clint Barton, an Avenger, said Kate had more speed talking than Captain America did running.
You held your hand up, shutting Kate up. She looked at you with curious eyes and waited to hear your voice, but instead, you started signing.
I do remember you.
Kate immediately felt embarrassed. She knew very little to almost nothing of what you were saying.
She promised Clint she would start learning when he began teaching, but for someone who helped save the world, he could still be stubborn. But now The Archer regretted not learning ASL.
Kate awkwardly smiled, making you smile back, in turn, causing Kate's face to flush red. You caught it. While looking at one another, you both thought the other person was beyond cute.
"I'm sorry," Kate spoke slower than she usually would. You tilted your head as she continued. "I don't know ASL."
You made a flat smile and nodded. Most people didn't. So it wasn't surprising that the first new cute girl to talk to you in some time didn't know it either. It just meant it would be harder to forget her when she inevitably didn't want to make the effort.
But you had never met Kate Bishop till before this moment. You didn't know that she was just as stubborn as her mentor but a thousand times more annoying when she needed to be. She wasn't going to give up.
She was going to learn for you.
She was going to speak to you.
Kate watched you nod and go to walk away, but she stepped in front of you again. "Wait!" She held her hands up and quickly pulled out her phone, handing it to you. You took it as it sat on the New Contact screen and looked up with furrowed brows. "Please?" Kate asked, making you nod and blush.
Kate watched your fingers fly over the keyboard before you handed it back. You watched Kate smile and try not to laugh at your contact name: Y/N 👂❌
You bite back your own laughter. Having been used to not everyone being comfortable with something you lost at a young age.
Kate looked up to see your smile and finally broke laughing. Her pearly whites were on display until she closed her mouth and started typing in her phone.
A few seconds later, yours buzzed in your pocket. Pulling it out, you looked up and smiled. The text read: "Hi Y/N. I'm Kate Bishop 🏹!" You nodded and made that her contact name.
"So Kate Bishop... what can I do you for?"
You typed and immediately regretted sending because you sounded like someone who was a boring attorney. But Kate found it kind of charming.
You looked down from her as the three dots popped up and down, but nothing happened. You looked back up at Kate, who was nervously biting her lip.
"You ok?" You typed to Kate, who stopped biting her lip, avoided your eye contact, and replied: "Yes. Sorry!" But Kate wanted to say more. She wanted to say: "I was going to ask for your number earlier, but we kinda blew through that quicker than I imagined. So now I don't know what to do?! Do I ask you out now? Is that allowed? Would you say yes?! You don't even know me!?"
But Kate didn't say that. Instead, she wrote: "I tried talking to you a couple of weeks ago because you seemed like a really cool person. Which you are! Ugh sorry. This is so embarrassing as I type this, but I wanted to know if you wanted to be friends? 😅"
Kate added the emoji, hoping to relieve any awkwardness. And it did. But Kate asking you to be friends wasn't where you thought this was going.
Truth be told, it wasn't.
But Katherine Elizabeth "Kate" Bishop wasn't going to ask you out over text. She was going to ask you face-to-face, and she didn't want you to read her lips to make it happen.
Yet you didn't know that. All you knew was that a cute, friendly girl was choosing to seek you out and wanted to get to know you. So you smiled and nodded to Kate, whose eyes lit up. "Great!" She audibly yelled, earning a fury of looks from people around.
But a smile from you.
"Sorry." You read Kates lips as she looked around at people shaking their heads and looking away.
Kate looked down at her buzzing phone to see a message from you. "Maybe we should leave the library. Are you busy rn?" Kate froze as she looked at the words on her screen. She was supposed to be courting you. Asking you out in time. Were you flirting? No. This is just what friends do. Hang out! The two of you were now friends! Right?
Kate's turmoil-struck brain could only process so much so fast before she decided to actually look at the time and realize, yes, she was supposed to be somewhere right now. Kate sent you a frown. "I actually should be on my way to archery practice."
That made a lightbulb go off above you. That's why she wanted her name like that in your phone. You thought Kate was being cute and was saying she was Cupid or was sent by Cupid or something. However, her being on the archery team made a lot more sense. You felt silly for thinking it was the former. But you pressed on.
"I have a free period right now. Can I come?"
Kate looked up from her phone and nodded with glee. "I'd love that!" Kate yelled once again, earning glares from everyone else in the room, but the two of you paid them no mind as Kate started leading the way.
On the walk, Kate and you enjoyed one another's company while also learning about the other one. It was new and slightly awkward but adorable to any outsider looking in. Like when you asked Kate if she took up archery because of the Hunger Games, she laughed and said no. She did it because she was saved by Hawkeye during the Battle of New York.
The very same battle you lost your hearing.
But Kate didn't know. She would in time.
Not right now.
The conversation about Hawkeye led to the two of you talking about your favorite Avengers. Kate's being obvious, and yours surprising her.
You said Natasha Romanoff—the Black Widow.
When asked why, you just sadly shrugged before replying through text: "The Avengers were all great. Most of them were role models. But none of them looked as good as she did in her uniform." You laughed to hide the tears in your eyes.
But Kate saw, leading you to type: "Plus, I bet she gave the best hugs." Kate smiled at that and could agree. Her and Wanda Maximoff probably gave the best hugs.
Where was Wanda, by the way??
Kate's phone buzzed, bringing her back. "Sorry... I could give actual reasons, but I don't want to cry right now." You smiled and swallowed the lump in your throat when Kate looked over at you.
Because Kate could relate, she had only gotten to hear Clint share less than a handful of stories about The Black Widow, and each time, they ended with the man in tears.
"I have a friend who's the same. It's okay." Kate sent back to you, making you feel better before you asked her if she had read Scott Lang's book, to which she said not yet.
Meanwhile, it was in your backpack.
Three weeks from now, she would borrow it and read the chapter dedicated to Natasha and cry.
As you and Kate walked up to the field holding practice, you had Kate lead you to a spot where you could safely watch from. Unbeknownst to you, the other girls around you were friends or girlfriends of the ladies on the team. So when people saw you walk up with THE Katherine Bishop, everyone started talking in hushed whispers.
But not that you knew.
However, you couldn't lie. Watching Kate's arms and fingers hold and mess around with something that's basically string and wood never looked so hot. On top of that, the shy, awkward, almost annoyingly cute girl you had become quick friends with didn't exist anymore. When the arrow flew from her fingers, she was confident, cocky, and dominant.
Also, she was easily the best of the team. Hot.
The warmth rising in you hit a tipping point when she pointed at you and then to the bullseye on the target before mouthing, "watch this." You expected Kate to turn and look to where she was shooting, but she didn't. She looked straight at you and let the arrow go. Your eyes went from Kate to the target.
Bullseye.
The girls around you erupted into a mixture of cheers, shock, and jealousy. They all turned to you, confusing you before you saw a couple of them smile and point back to Kate as if they were praising the two of you.
You're fairly certain you saw the word "girlfriend" being thrown around, but you just shook your head and waited for Kate to come to your rescue.
_
Over the next couple of months, as the season of spring was winding down to make way for the heat of summer, you and Kate had only grown closer. Your friendship had turned the two of you into being the best of friends.
Often being mistaken for girlfriends.
A mistake that always left you and Kate blushing but never saying how awful it would be if that was the case.
It was like there was a silent understanding. Kate knew what she was waiting for, and you were too nice and kind to even think about jeopardizing what you two had.
It was expected that if one of you was around, the other one had to be within ten feet. And this was true—most times. But there had been times in the past where if you woke up in the middle of the night after passing out while reading, you'd discover Kate gone. Her bag and clothes would still be there, but she was just gone. Well, herself and... her archery equipment.
That part confused you.
You wanted to bring it up to her. Because for one reason, whatever she was doing was making her exhausted. You could see it on her face better than anyone. She was tired mentally and physically. You didn't like seeing her like that.
The other reason is that it hurt you to see someone you cared about lying to you. You hated it and didn't want to hate the girl who started holding your hand on your walks across campus. The one who never missed a bullseye for you. The same girl who decided to read The Hunger Games instead of just watching the movies for you.
So when you couldn't bear yourself to bring it up to her, you decided to wait up and catch her.
Kate had no idea you had started to catch onto her. But it's not like Kate enjoyed sneaking around. Well, she did, but that was when she was chasing bad guys and doing some recon. But she hated it when it came to you. Sneaking around behind your back felt wrong, no matter the cause.
So, as Kate quietly picked up her bow and quiver, she looked over at your sleeping form and made a motion with her hands.
You didn't see it as you faked sleeping. But if you did, you would've understood why Kate was being sneaky.
Kate turned away from you and took a few steps towards her window. Kate opened it and reached back behind her when suddenly you flicked on the light in the bedroom of her dorm as she looked ready to jump out of her window. A labeled arrow prepared to fire.
Kate slowly lowered the bow and turned her head to you. You stood wearing her high school archery t-shirt and a pair of black shorts.
Kate couldn't help but smile. She loved seeing you in her clothes.
And you loved seeing her in yours, but right now, that was the last thing on your mind as Kate sheepishly said: "It's not what it looks like."
You threw your arms up at that and ran up to her, smacking your head as if to say, "what the hell are you doing?"
Kate sighed and knew that now was the time to say one thing or the other. Or maybe both?? Kate weighed her options before gently placing her bow on the bed you two had come to share. As friends of course.
You watched Kate let go of the bow before her hands found their way to yours. Taking them from your hips.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner." She started as you watched her pink lips speak. Tilting your head at the words she spilled before she softly let go of your hands to unzip her purple hoodie.
You gasped and covered your mouth when you saw what she was hiding. You looked from her guilty eyes back to her purple suit. Kate watched you step forward and raise a hand to her hip. The touch making her stomach flip while two of your fingers danced along the edge before gliding up the lining of the suit before they floated away.
Kate missing your contact already.
You couldn't believe what you were seeing. But yet, it made sense.
You'd been to enough practices to know the only match for Kate with a bow and arrow would be an Avenger. You looked to Kate's downward face and put your finger on the underside of her chin. Lifting it up. Her eyes meeting yours. You weren't mad. Well, you were, but if anything, now you were just shocked.
Are you Hawkeye? You signed without realizing it.
Yes. Kate signed ba— KATE SIGNED!
You took a step back in awe. Did that happen? You swallowed and stared at the girl, holding back a smile dressed in a purple superhero suit. Slowly, you raised your hands and, with a deep breath, signed: You can understand me?
Yes.Kate signed the exact same way as before, surprising you once again.
She was communicating with you in ASL. Your best friend- someone you cared for- No someone who you loved was signing!
Tears were threatening to spill as you ran into Kate and wrapped your arms around her. Your head burying its way into her neck. Kate wrapping her arms around you, holding you tight.
As Kate held you, she heard your sniffles and felt a few tears spill from your eyes. Kate bit her lip to keep her eyes from spilling.
It was then she decided she would keep the night of surprises going. So, after some time, she patted her hand against your back and removed her hold from you as you moved back to look at her. Your eyes were a little red, but Kate could see what was holding in them.
Kate smiled and started moving her hands. Since I met you, I've been learning ASL.
Your mouth dropped. With who? You could've asked me!?
You would've loved to teach Kate. But it had to be done this way.
Kate didn't answer you. Instead, she pulled out her phone and went to a secret photo album you had never seen before. Inside were pictures of her with Lucky, a family, some friends, and lastly... Clint Barton.
You looked up from the phone to Kate and back to the phone—Full-on, yanking it from her hands. You zoomed in on his face and then Kates before sliding through other pictures of the two of them together. A lot of them were unflattering pics of the grown man while Kate smiled brightly. But then there were some where Clint smiled and posed ridiculously for his mentee. You laughed and smiled at each one, including the ones of his family surrounding Kate.
You swiped once more, and a video automatically started to play. You felt the vibrations in your hand but couldn't make anything out. However, Kate knew exactly what was happening in the video.
It was Kate's first ASL lesson months prior. But that didn't start till ten minutes in. Instead, what was playing right now to the room was Kate in the video going on and on about this new friend of hers named Y/N. Kate mentions that you are the reason that she wants to learn sign language.
Slightly and purposely offending Clint.
"Okay, so let's say I manage to teach you, and you manage to learn, then what?"
Clint asks in the video.
"Then I ask her out."
Kate replies.
You looked up from the video to Kate. Asking why she is blushing, Kate takes a step closer to you and asks for her cell phone back. You place it in her hand. She hits the button on the side before putting it in her pocket.
I learned for you.
You watch Kate sign and mouth simultaneously, the feeling of wanting to cry from pure happiness returning. Why? You asked Kate as you smiled.
Kate lifts her hands and stops. She starts to sign but stops again.
The Archer breathes in and out.
Because ever since I met you, I've wanted to do one thing. Kate waits for you to nod back to her. I- Y/N... Y/N, do you want to go out?
She signs with a nervous smile.
Together? Sometime, like on a date. A real date! One where we dress up and go out on the town, not just eat junk in my-
You surprised Kate by jumping into her arms. Cutting off her ramblings in ASL. Kate barely had time to register to catch you before she felt just how soft your lips were.
Kate closed her eyes and melted into you. She marveled at the feeling of your smile as the kiss deepened. You pushed further into her and felt butterflies flutter inside of you at what you've wanted for so long.
Kate felt the same and would vow to always hold you closer than anyone ever could as she pulled you into her. Taking you all in.
Eventually, air had to return into your lungs.
You blushed harder when you and Kate separated. The heavy breathing between the two of you being the only noise in the room.
Yes, you signed when Kate placed you onto your feet. "You want to go out? With me?" Kate said, knowing you were watching her lips. But maybe she was wrong when she saw you shake your head no.
You moved back a bit as Kate kept her arms around your body.
I want to be your girlfriend.
Kate looked at you, making sure she saw that right. "Girlfriend?!" She asked with a glint of hope. You smiled and brought your lips to hers as you nodded before moving your hands down to hers. Taking them off your body and placing them in yours as you moved them.
You kissed Kate again as she traced her fingers over your left hand, discovering the pinky and index finger were raised. She moved from your index finger down to your extended thumb.
She pulled back and looked at your hand watching it move towards her.
Kate brought her hands up to your face and quickly kissed your lips before she moved onto your cheeks and nose, forcing a giggle out of you.
When she let go of your head, she looked into your eyes and said with an unmistakable smile: "I love you too. I love you so much!"
Kate wrapped you into her arms and held you close before she could feel you patting her back.
When she let go, you smiled and asked: So girlfriends?
Kate nodded.Girlfriends.
A million more questions ran through you as you stood in Kate's arms. But before you could stop yourself, you started with: Oh, and Kate... You laughed and signed to her before continuing. Since I'm dating Hawkeye, do I get a cool name?
Kate laughed back and raised an eyebrow. "Sure! What would you want to be called?"
You tucked your bottom lip into your mouth as you thought. An action making Kate pull your lip out of your mouth with her thumb before bringing it to her lips, almost frying your brain to the point that you nearly didn't say your answer. Bullseye.
"Why is that?"
You shrugged but hid behind an innocent smile. Your eyes briefly darting to Kate's closet before looking back to Kate.
Because I want to be the only thing you can stick your arrow in.

Summary: Clint has encountered many creatures on his adventures on the high seas but one captures his imagination (and his heart) like no other.
 Word Count: 2623
 Pairings: Deaf!Clint Barton x Chubby!Female Reader/ Selkie!Reader
Warnings: Mild violence, tiny bit of angst
A/N: Written for @buckysbirdie ‘s Ice Cream Shop Challenge with a pretzel cone (Clint Barton), a scoop of blue moon ice cream (Pirate AU) and drizzled with honey syrup (Make Your Own).
The life of a pirate was filled with many hazards but one that was rarely discussed was hearing loss. Between the cannon fire, the swordfights, the pistols and other things that went boom, Clint’s hearing had taken a turn for the worst. He could still hear somewhat but it all sounded muffled like it was underwater. Clint read somewhere about an inventor that may be able to help but it was a long journey until then. He would just have to make due until he got there.
One night, Clint couldn’t sleep so he stepped out onto the deck to enjoy the fresh air and collect his thoughts. It wouldn’t be long before they reached their next destination. They were so close; he could see the light of the town’s lighthouse shining ahead. In the distance he could hear something that cut through the muffle. A song… on a violin? Clint could swear he could see the shape of someone sitting on the rocks… rocks that were getting too close, way too fast.
“Hey, Kate, what the hell are you doing?!” Clint bellowed, storming to the helm.
When he got there, he saw Kate standing with her hands tightly on the wheel, glassy eyed and mouth agape.
 “Kate?”
Clint tried waving his hand in front of her face but there was no response. If he didn’t do something soon, the ship was going to smash into the cliff face. Clint tried to pry Kate’s hands from the helm but they wouldn’t budge. He tried to push her away but that wasn’t happening either. Something was wrong here. Very wrong. Maybe the least he could do was try and crash into the beach. Why was Kate acting like this? While Clint was trying to gain control, he caught a glimpse of something swimming by the side of the ship.
 Sirens.
That’s what why Kate was acting so weird! They probably were affecting the rest of the crew… and Clint couldn’t hear them! Which meant he was the only one on board who could save them! They were still going too fast. Clint turned the wheel as hard as he could, scraping the side of the ship along the jagged rocks. The impact made him unsteady on his feet and Kate’s elbow suddenly collided with his chest. Clint was sent into the icy waters below. He managed to swim to the surface but something grabbed his leg and dragged him back under. Clint tried to swim back up but his limbs were frozen in place.
 Why couldn’t he move?!
Out of nowhere, something took a bite out his shoulder and vanished just as fast. Then it slashed at his abdomen. The siren attacked him over and over again, scratching and taking bites, disappearing with each hit. Clint’s lungs were burning. He was starting to panic. Just as suddenly, a dark shape body slammed the siren before the next attack. Clint could barely make out more dark shapes fighting off the other sirens. His defender helped him back to the surface where he greedily gulped in air and coughed up water. Clint could now see the ship crashing into the beach nearby. It may have taken on damage but hopefully that meant no one else would be lost to the vile creatures lurking in the water. The dark shape which he now identified as a seal moved under his arm, encouraging him to move with it. Clint’s limbs still felt numb but he tried to swim with the seal.
It guided him to the shore and safely out of the grasp of the sirens. Every bite wound felt like it was on fire. Clint could barely move. He turned to look at his little seal friend only to see a woman in its place. She wriggled out of what looked like a pelt before picking it up and putting her arm around him and helping him to his feet. Clint noticed deep scratch marks all over her skin. Was she… the seal that saved him? Clint’s head became fuzzy and his vision blurry. He tried to focus on just staying awake until he was guided to his destination. As soon as he stepped in the door, Clint blacked out.
For days, Clint drifted in and out of consciousness. He caught glimpses here and there, mostly of the woman from the beach. Clint felt hot chills all over his body, the injuries he sustained from the sirens were burning.
Finally, his fever broke through. Clint slowly blinked a few times as his eyes adjusted to his surroundings. As far as he could tell, he was in a cottage of some sort. While Clint was gathering his thoughts, the woman from the beach walked in. He could see her lips moving, indicating she was trying to talk to him. Clint pointed to his ear, trying to inform her of his condition. She nodded in understanding and encouraged him to sit up before giving him water to drink. The woman busied herself, checking his wounds and checking him over. This was the first time getting a good look at her. She was wearing a dress that framed her plump figure nicely, her eyes held a soft kindness, her smile sent butterflies to his stomach… she was so beautiful. Then his noticed the bandages on her arm. Clint reached for her arm to get a better look but she gently took his hand in both of hers. Her sympathetic smile put his worries at ease.
“My crew… where are my crew?” he rasped.
The woman held up a finger to indicate ‘wait a moment’ and headed out the door. After a few minutes, Kate ran in and hugged him tight.
“Ow! Ow! Get off!” he grunted.
Kate pulled away and started babbling a mile a minute at which point, Clint had to remind her of his hearing loss. She nodded and grabbed a nearby parchment and pen to fill him in on everything he had missed out on.
The ship crashed into the beach which meant weeks of repair but thanks to his quick actions, it wasn’t completely destroyed. Y/N (the woman from earlier) had taken him in after the siren attack and cared for him. Apparently sirens injected venom into their victims to paralyse them. The poison in his body had made Clint very sick but Y/N stayed by his side to monitor his condition, keeping his forehead cool and applying a salve to his wounds to heal them while detoxing his system. Kate also informed him they had reached the island of the inventor and as soon as he was given the all clear, they could go into town and meet him. As Clint’s attention drifted from Kate, to Y/N, she gave him a sly grin.
 “What?”
Kate shrugged, said something to Y/N and headed out, giving him a subtle thumbs up. Once Kate had left, Y/N sat next to him on the bed and began inspecting his injuries. As she worked, Clint couldn’t help but admire her. After checking him over, she began to tell him something but he was so distracted by the thoughts of kissing her lips that he forgot to read them.
“Huh?” he asked, realising he hadn’t been paying attention.
Y/N’s shoulders gently shook in what he assumed was laughter before repeating what she told him but slower.
 I… said… you… will… be… alright… in… a… few… days.
Clint nodded and thanked her. A few days on bed rest with a beautiful woman taking care of him shouldn’t be too bad.
A few days passed by quickly. Clint spent his days trying to get to know Y/N better. He learnt that she was the adopted daughter of the lighthouse keeper and that he found her when she was a young child. She had a wealth of knowledge about the sea and the creatures that lived in. Clint wanted to know everything about her.
During the night, Clint could hear that sweet violin music he first heard when they arrived. It was almost like it was playing just for him. One thing he seemed to notice is that Y/N would spend a long time gone during the night. Clint tried not to think too much of it.
Finally, the day came when Clint could get up and walk around the village. Y/N remained close to him every step of the way, making sure he would be alright. Clint would be lying if he said he didn’t enjoy all the attention he was getting from her. Y/N led him to the inventor’s shop. The place was large and the inside held various sections from weapons to mechanical limbs. Clint was sure if anywhere held answers, this would be the place. When the guy stepped out, there was something about him that rubbed him the wrong way. Maybe it was the flashy, red and gold outfit, maybe it was the way he was looking at Y/N… Clint couldn’t possibly be jealous… right?
Y/N spoke to the inventor about Clint’s condition. Before the inventor could do anything, Clint’s hearing needed to assessed by one of the in-house doctors. Y/N stayed with him, helping him feel at ease as the doctor ran tests. After the assessment was over, the inventor fitted him with special devices.
 “… now?”
 “What?”
“Can you hear me now?” the inventor repeated.
“Yes! Yes, I can hear you!”
Clint smiled widely as he could once again hear the world around him. He could hear the bustling of the village. The sound of the ocean. The people talking. Clint could hear them all! He couldn’t thank them enough. The inventor (who he found out was named Tony) surprisingly didn’t charge him very much. After explaining how to properly care for his new hearing aids, Tony sent him on his way. The first thing he did was run and tell Kate the good news. She was happy for him, but she did give him a scolding for leaving Y/N behind like that. Clint’s eyes widened. In his excitement, he had almost forgotten about her. Immediately, he ran back to find her.
“Y/N!” he called out to her.
Clint ran up to her and hugged her tightly.
“Thank you for all your help,” he smiled.
“You’re welcome, Clint,” she smiled back.
The moment he heard her voice, he was in love. It was like the sweetest music he could imagine; like the violin music he could hear at night.
“So, um… I was wondering if you could show me some of your favourite places around the island,” Clint asked bashfully, rubbing the back of his neck.
Y/N smiled and took his hand.
 “I’d love to.”
Clint spent the whole day with her.
That night, Clint heard the music clearer than he ever had before. He knew he had to investigate. Quietly, he crept out, looking everywhere for the source. Clint searched everywhere until he found a small alcove. There were seals everywhere, lounging on the rocks or lazily shifting to a more comfortable position. That’s when he saw Y/N sitting on one of the higher rocks playing the violin with such passion. Her legs seemed to be some form of brown tail. Y/N gasped when she saw him and cast aside her bow and violin. As fast as she could, she wriggled into some kind of coat and in her place, a seal dived into the ocean.
 “Wait!”
Clint tried to run over to her but the sluggish seals refused to move for him and he didn’t want to turn his ankles on the stony ground. When he reached the spot where Y/N had been, she was gone. Clint sighed and peered into the dark waters. After a few moments, a seal poked its head out of the sea.
 “Y/N? Is that you?”
To his surprise, the seal nodded. The seal made its way to the beach and wiggled along before stopping. Clint watched in amazement as two human arms emerged from the seal, followed by Y/N’s torso. He carefully made his way over to her, trying to avoid the sleepy seals. Clint knelt down beside her, offering his jacket to keep the chill off her shoulders. Y/N thanked him and shrugged it on.
“You were the seal that saved my life that night…” he said in awe.
“I was,” she shyly replied, nervously wringing her hands.
So many questions filled Clint’s mind but Y/N started answering them before he could ask.
“I’m a selkie. With this pelt I wear, I can change into a seal and turn into a human when I take it off…”
Clint sat down next to her to listen to her speak and no sooner had he done so then one of the seals shuffled along the beach to flop onto his lap, making him grunt.
“So are these guys… your family?” he asked, watching the seal get comfortable.
Y/N giggled softly and pat it.
“No, they’re just ordinary seals but I can understand them. This one really seems to like you,” she smiled.
 “What happened to your family?”
“There was a shark attack when I was little… I was the only one who was survived…”
 Clint gently held her hand.
 “I’m sorry…”
Y/N wiped away a few tears with her free hand.
“It was a long time ago… My Papa, the man who took me in, he found me washed up on the beach… He’s a superstitious person so he knew what I was. He raised me while respecting my need for the sea,” you explained.
“What about the violin?” Clint asked, looking at the seal who had dozed off in his lap.
“Papa said he found it years ago and when I touched it, I just felt like it was made for me… there are selkie carvings on the side.”
“You know, when we were first coming in, I could hear your song, clearer than I heard anything in a long time,” Clint confessed.
“I’ve read stories about humans and selkies… usually the human hides the selkie’s pelt so they can’t return to the sea,” Y/N said sadly.
“I would never do that to you, Y/N. Being a pirate, I know how important the freedom of the sea is,” Clint assured her.
“Then maybe my song was meant for you…”
Clint and Y/N leaned in closer until the seal let out a loud snort upon waking and rolled off Clint’s legs making them both laugh.
“Y/N… When we fix the ship, I was wondering if you’d like to come with me… maybe we could find more of your people out there…”
 Y/N smiled warmly at him.
“I’d like that very much, Clint.”
Over the next few weeks, Clint and Y/N got to know each other very well. She taught him everything about the village and he taught her all about life on a ship. During that time, Tony had talked his way into coming with them too so he could explore more materials and ways to help people. Clint wasn’t so on board with the idea but with Y/N making him feel at ease, he agreed. Then came the day when the ship was ready to depart. Clint had talked with Y/N’s father and while he was sad to see her go, he always knew the day would come where she would have to return to the sea and as long as Clint took care of her, he would approve of their relationship.
As the ship pulled away from the island, Y/N watched the place she had called home slowly fade into the distance. Clint held her close and kissed her softly. As long as they had each other, they knew they would be ready to face whatever adventures would come their way and make beautiful music together.

Kate Bishop x Reader! deaf. Kate talks a lot but thinks the reader hates her because every time she tries to strike up a conversation the reader seems to ignore her.
Talking Too Fast
Pairing: Kate Bishop x Deaf! Reader (Platonic)
Summary: Kate is unaware that you can’t understand what she’s saying, instead she thinks you dislike her
 | 1.1K | No Warnings |
AC: I hope this is okay – I don’t know a lot about how people who are deaf communicate besides using sign and lip reading.
Tumblr media
You were sitting in the compound kitchen enjoying your lunch when Clint walked in with a young woman you’d never seen before. She had long dark hair, honey like eyes and a cute little smile that she threw your way. Returning the smile, you then continued eating your lunch while reading a book you’d brought online. Clint waved to you before your attention was drawn back to your book, completely unaware of what was happening behind you.
“I have to go do some mission reports, help yourself to anything in the kitchen, make yourself at home and when I’m done, we’ll go do some training like we spoke about” Clint grabbed a fresh coffee.
“How long will you be?” Kate asked
“An hour or two, I have a couple things piled up. If you need anything, Y/n over there will be happy to help” Clint replied completely forgetting to inform Kate that you were deaf and communicate through sign language. Clint rushed out of the kitchen, waving goodbye to you but your head was buried into your book you didn’t notice he’d left.
Kate looked around the kitchen before grabbing herself a bottle of water and a banana before walking over to the dining table and sitting a seat away from you. Again, you didn’t notice her presence and continued to finish your sandwich, turning to the next page of your book.
“I’m Kate” Kate smiled, “what are you reading?” she asked.
Her question didn’t faze you; you didn’t even look up from your book or make any effort to reply.
“Okay…uhm, Clint said you’d be happy to help me if I needed anything… do you know where the bathroom is?” she asked. You reached for your drink, only looking up from your page to make sure you wouldn’t spill it, only even did you notice the dark-haired woman sitting at the table with you. You smiled softly to her, she looked confused at you for a second, “do you know where the bathroom is? Clint said you’d help if needed” she asked once more. She spoke a little too fast for you to read her lips, a frown formed at your eyebrows as she spoke once more.
“I’m guessing you might not understand English. That’s cool, what do you speak? Oh wait, uhm” she went on, trying to use her hands to gesture she needed the toilet but that still made no sense to you, instead you just gave her another polite smile and returned to your book.
----
The next day, you were outside enjoying the summer sun when Kate came up beside you, completely unaware she was there once again.
“Hey” Kate said with a smile and a wave. You looked to your side, your eyes connecting with her deep honey eyes that the sun kissed perfectly, you waved back with a smile before you walked down to the garden where a park bench sat surrounded by plenty of different coloured flowers.
“It’s a lovely day, isn’t it” Kate said to herself as she watched you walk away from her.
You weren’t an Avenger, but you were able to help the team in other ways, you worked closely with Tony on building things and making sure the team had everything they needed.
Kate made her way down to you and sat next to you, feeling the warmth of the sun on her skin, she was determined to get to know you. “So, you like to read and what else? What’s your hidden talent?” she asked, her lips moving too fast once again, causing you to frown once again. “I’m sorry, I don’t mean to bother you…it’s just Clint is busy again and Yelena is busy with Natasha, you seem to be by yourself a lot so I thought maybe we could get to know one another”
You couldn’t help but frown more as you tried to read her fast moving lips. Kate sighed when you didn’t respond, “I’m sorry for bothering you” she stood up, you walked her walk back inside before you had a chance to try and explain you were deaf.
“What’s up with you?” Yelena asked Kate who was slumped down on the sofa with a pout.
“Clint is busy and left me with Y/n again, who let me just say, hates me!” Kate explained, Yelena looked confused, “hates you? What are you talking about?” Yelena asked.
“I’ve tried talking to them and they just ignore me, yesterday I asked where the bathroom was, and they just kept reading their book and gave me a weird look. And just before, I was out in the garden with them, asking what they did, and they just frowned at me” Kate explains.
“Kate Bishop, Y/n doesn’t hate you, they just don’t understand what you’re saying”
“I didn’t need you to point that out. What language does she speak?”
“Kate, she’s deaf. She uses sign language” Yelena points out.
“Oh” Kate replied nothing feeling bad for thinking you hated her.
“Knowing you, you probably spoke a little too fast for her to be able to read your lips, hence why she frowned at you”
“Now I feel so horrible!”
“Don’t! I’m sure it’s fine. Is she still in the garden?” Yelena asked, looking out the window.
“I think so”
“Come, I’ll introduce you to her. I don’t know why Clint didn’t do that in the first place” she explains.
You were reading your book again, still enjoying the fresh hair and warm sun when Yelena’s hand slowly lowered your book, causing you to look up at her and the dark hair woman.
Yelena smiled at you softly before signing *Y/n, this is Kate*
A smile formed on your lips as you signed back, *Hello, Kate, I am Y/n* you looked to her.
“She said, Hello Kate, I’m Y/n” Yelena looked to Kate.
“Can you show me out to say nice to meet you?” Kate asked Yelena who showed her the basics of signing.
“Can you tell her I’m sorry I wasn’t aware”
Yelena signed the situation to you which caused you to smile bigger.
*I tried to understand her lips, but she speaks too fast*
“Yeah, I told you, you speak too fast” Yelena chuckled to Kate.
----
The following day you saw Kate enjoying a cup of coffee by herself, she smiled when she saw you and waved. You returned the smile and placed a “Learn Sign” book in front of her with a posted note that read, “I can teach you” with a little smiley face.
“I would like that” Kate spoke slightly slower for you to read her lips.

Masterlist - Part Two (You Have Me)
Tumblr media
There's a rumbling before the actual explosion. The instant the cinderblock wall begins to implode you grab Kate and shield her body with your own. The both of you fall to the ground in an attempt to avoid being hit by debris. You hold her tightly until you're certain the explosion is over.
"Are you alright?" You ask, shifting to the side while lifting her head to look at you. Her eyes are slightly widened but she nods.
"Wh-what about you?" She asks, her eyes looking over you quickly.
"I'm fine," You reassure her, your eyes already scanning the area for the incoming threat. Your eyes narrow as you see men entering the newly created hole in the wall with guns. "We need to get out of here," You mutter, gently pushing her against one of the wine racks to keep her out of sight of the intruders.
"We can't just leave," She whispers back.
"Now is not the time to play hero," You snip quickly. You lean against the rack beside her.
You ignore the cries for help and search for a quick exit. Your main priority is to get Kate out. Once she's safe you'll return to help the others but not until Kate is out of this damn cellar.
"Alright, we have a clear shot to the staircase. If we stay low and move quick we-" Your voice cuts off when you notice Kate is no longer beside you. Your heart jumps into your throat as you quickly look around for her. "Kate!" You whisper yell but she ignores you.
You watch her grab the Ronin outfit and disappear. You curse under your breath at her stubbornness. You inch towards one of the rich women sitting on the floor frozen in fear. She looks at you terrified.
"It's alright," You whisper quietly. "You're gonna be alright but you have to get out of here, ok? Stay low and use the stairs over there," You direct her. She nods quickly and shifts to leave but you grab her scarf. "I'll be borrowing this," You mutter, but she couldn't care less as she speeds away scarf-less.
You wrap the fabric around your head and then around your face to help hide your identity. Your search for Kate resumes. You find her ushering people towards the staircase with people shooting at her. Anger quickly rages through you and you take off towards the nearest gunman.
You tackle him to the ground and within one punch the man is knocked out. Your head whips up as someone approaches you. You roll to the side when he shoots at your previous position. When your feet set down you take off again. You ram your shoulder into his abdomen pinning him into the wine rack. When he punches you, he cries out in pain and when you punch him, he joins his unconscious buddy on the ground.
"Shit," You mutter when you realize who exactly was robbing the place. You roll your eyes and send each body an extra kick in an attempt to relieve the annoyance you're feeling.
With slight satisfaction you slip through the wine maze until you find Kate smacking the shit out of three men with a bottle. You smirk proudly at her and watch her back, but otherwise let her handle the situation.
"You got this babe?" You ask, leaning against the wooden shelf with your arms crossed.
"Uh, yeah," she says, slightly unconfident.
"You're doing great," You praise. "Watch your six," you say quickly. She moves just in time to dodge a bullet. The bullet lodges into one of the gunmen. She turns to deal with the shooter but you already have him on the ground.
"We make a great team!" She shouts in excitement.
"Let's not make this a habit," You plead but it falls on deaf ears. She spins around and deals with the man that has a grip on her. Only when the bottle she had been using as a weapon is shot to pieces does she run towards you.
Her hand grips your wrist and she drags you away. You try to use your body as a shield as much as you can as you keep up with her. When the two of you come across a rather large man Kate doesn't hesitate to go after him.
Your eyes watch as she jumps up and grabs a bar. She uses her legs to wrap around the man's next. You stop yourself from licking your lips at the sight of her simply kicking ass.
You quickly step around her when another one comes up behind her. He raises his gun as she jumps to her feet.
"Y/n!" She shouts when he shoots you. The shot doesn't faze you. You hit the gun out of his hand and grab his jacket. You yank him towards you before throwing him into the wall hard enough to break off pieces of cement.
When you turn to look at her, she's staring at you in disbelief. She looks at your chest but doesn't see any blood. You know the questions will come but you grab her elbow and pull her along.
"We gotta keep moving, sweetheart," You whisper to her. You don't give her a choice this time, you force her to leave the wine cellar. You barely get a moment to breathe before Kate's racing forward to save a dog. You run after her into the street.
Your eyes widen when she jumps into traffic for the dog. You try to follow after her and almost have a heart attack when she nearly gets hit. You meet her on the other side and send her a glare.
"Don't you ever do that again," You snap.
"The dog was about to be road kill," Kate says defensively.
"So were you," You snap back. Horns blow behind the two of you. You turn to see the tracksuit guys on the other side of the street. "We gotta go," you say, grabbing her again. The two of you take off.
"You know I can run on my own," Kate reminds you.
"I know," You nod. "But I don't trust you to not run off," you tell her causing her to roll her eyes.
"As if you could stop me," She mutters.
"I can dream," You mutter back causing her to smile a bit. Only when you're in front of the apartment door do you release her. Once you're inside you take off the scarf and lock the door.
"Ok, that was, that was crazy," Kate says.
"It was crazy and utterly stupid," You snap at her. "We should have never gotten involved,"
"People were literally crying for help!" Kate snaps with a hint of disbelief. She had thought you would be on her side on this matter.
"The men weren't there to hurt anyone, they just wanted to steal shit," you tell her.
"Then why did they have guns?" She asks, crossing her arms.
"Because their morons trying to look tough," you tell her.
"You know them?" She asks, and you tense.
"No," You lie, looking away from her. "But anyone can tell how idiotic those guys are," You mutter. You feel your phone buzzing and you pull it out needing a moment of distraction. "Fuck," You whisper seeing a text from Lila, who's going crazy over the news of a ninja saving a stray dog.
'Don't get involved, I have the situation handled,' You text your dad. 'Stay with Lila and the boys. Go home and I'll meet you there in a few days,' You promise before slipping your phone away.
"We need to figure out what Armand is up too," Kate says.
"What Armand is up too?" You ask, turning towards her. "Do you hear yourself? That shit was crazy enough. We're not doing anything else. You're going to take the suit off and call it a night,"
"No," She shakes her head. "Tonight, was crazy, yeah, but it felt good," she says causing your heart to drop.
"It won't always feel like that," You whisper. "Sooner or later, you're going to come across a situation either you or someone you care about won't be able to get out of. Tonight, was dangerous enough, stop before you get in too deep,"
"I'm not talking about going around New York as a vigilante," Kate says. "But I know Armand is up to something and my mom might get hurt because of it. I have to find out what it is, to keep her safe," She argues. "We don't have to do anything but I'm going to Armand's to see what I can find," She states.
"Why can't you just listen to me?" You ask her. "Don't go down this road. Don't get involved," You plead.
"I'm already involved... I was since Mom decided to get engaged," she says. You sigh deeply and run your hand over your face. "We did good together... We make a great team... I'd feel better if you came with me but I'm not going to force you to come,"
"Of course, I'm not going to let you do something so idiotic alone," you tell her, your hand going back to the scarf. She smiles stepping closer to you.
"Thank you," She whispers, running her hands over your chest before freezing. "You got shot," She remembers causing you to tense once again.
"No, I didn't," You lie again. "Like I said, their idiots with guns. They can't shoot worth shit," you tell her. "He missed,"
You could see in her eyes that she didn't believe you but with the lack of blood she couldn't argue. She lowers the mask enough to free her lips. You smile leaning towards her to give her the kiss she wants.
"Stay," You whisper, resting your hands on her hips. "I'll make it worth your while," You promise, biting at her lip. She sighs softly but ultimately pulls away.
"I have to do this," She whispers and you sigh.
"I know," You mutter. "Come on, I don't wanna run around all damn night,"

This Is Me Trying - Two - (A Y/N Parker Spider-Woman X Kate Bishop Story)
Tumblr media
masterlist
Summary: The Hawkeyes and you seem to be on the same track...
Word Count: 3.5K
Content: College stress, Flirty Kate Bishop, Clint being a dad
Tumblr media
"Kate Bishop! Your crush! Asked you that!? No way!" Ned, of course, couldn't believe it. But this was the same man who didn't realize he was going out with Betty Brant for two weeks
"What did you say after she asked?" MJ questioned when she looked up from behind her laptop on the couch.
"I said, "yeah!" and "that's awesome." Was that good?"
MJ shook her head. "Truly a wordsmith." Sarcastic as ever. MJ went back to her screen to basically ignore you and Ned.
"Well, anyways, congrats," Ned said, getting up from the dining room table where his and Peter's LEGO Death Star was kept. Why was it in your dorm and not there's you had no idea. But MJ helped from time to time, so you figured it was okay.
Ned and you walked into your room and closed the door.
"You know it's a good thing everyone knows you're gay, or else the amount of time we go to your room alone would be suspicious." You froze and thought about Ned's words. "Yeah, I guess... I wonder what MJ thinks we do?"
"I think Peter said we watch movies that she'd disapprove of."
That made sense. "Hmm, alright." You walked over to your bed and flopped onto it while you waited for Ned to do what he needed to do.
3...2...1. "Okay, got it." He said as your fingers formed into a 0. "Alright, what am I looking at?" Ned had pulled up security footage from a traffic light from three weeks ago.
"Okay, this was when that building on 10th in Hell's Kitchen burned down." Ned played the video, and it showed a group of guys in Tracksuits fleeing from the building as they piled into a black SUV moments prior to the building going up.
"Okay. So the Tracksuits are back.." You thought out loud as Ned moved his cursor to another video.
"This was from last week on 3rd in Harlem." The video played and was almost identical to the third one. Except the SUV and the plates on the car were different.
You stood in thought as the last video started. "This was last night."
You recognized the building immediately as you remember zipping past it last night. Just like the other two videos, it played out the same. When the video stopped, Ned looked at you.
"Okay, so as bad as their fashion choice is, they're not idiots. They have different cars and plates every time. Their faces are covered, and let me guess, if we follow the cars light by light, they end up at a chop shop?"
Ned nodded.
"So... it's gotta be the buildings." Ned tilted his head. "What do you mean? It's not the chop shops?" You shook your head. "Chop shops are easy to bust. It's like they want you to follow them there. The buildings. The ones they burn. That's the real money."
Ned looked from you to the screen.
"So you think these tracksuit guys are burning the buildings for insurance money?" You shook your head and entered your closet to change into your Spidey Suit.
Just because you're gay doesn't mean you want guy your friend Ned to see you.
"No, I think someone is hiring these guys to do it." You huffed as you remembered who had the tracksuit mafia in his pocket last time.
Wilson Fisk. The Kingpin.
He was a roach you could never squash just right.
If he owned the buildings, that means there was a lot more at play.
"Okay." You stepped out of the closet and quickly scarfed down a leftover slice of pizza Ned had. "Do you think you could find out who owns these buildings?" Ned nodded. "It's probably a bunch of shell companies, but I can do my best." You patted him on the shoulder. "Thanks, man." You hurried across your room and grabbed your mask.
"Oh, and when Peter comes over, could you maybe not tell him I went patrolling? Tell him I overheard something on the radio." Ned gave a flat smile.
Lying was not his strong suit.
"If you do, I'll-"
"Hey, Y/N, are you still in there?" You gave a panicked look to Ned before putting on your mask and twhiping away before MJ wildly opened the door.
She looked from the open window to Ned.
"Where's Y/N?"
"Uhhh..." Ned was really bad at lying. "She left..ago- a while ago!" He was in trouble. "Yeah?" MJ crossed her arms and leaned against the doorframe. "How come I didn't see her leave?"
Ned's brain scrambled.
"Blindness?" Ned said, making MJ stand up straighter. "I turn a blind eye to many things, Ned, but this won't be one of them." She uncrossed her arms and stretched her arm out to grab the door handle to the room. "By the way, nice camera footage, totally not suspicious at all." She thinned her eyes and hummed as she closed the door.
After swinging for what felt like a good enough distance away from campus, you stood on the roof of an old pizzeria.
Your phone chimed, and you had a text from Ned. "Did my best. Sorry. 😭😭😭"
You laughed and reassured him that he wouldn't be fired from his guy-in-the-chair duties.
"Keep me posted on the buildings." You sent your final text and put your phone away.
You then stared out into the boro you find yourself in. In the distance, you can see what remains of a shootout you helped rescue people from two months ago. You think about a girl you saved who said she wanted to be like you when she grew up.
Your heart warmed, and you told her to stay in school and that she'd be better than you.
Which was looking more and more accurate by the day as you leaped off the pizzeria, ignoring a text from your brother about the essay you still needed to do.
At the same time, Kate Bishop entered her dorm room, walking past her blonde roommate and fast friend Cassie Lang at her desk before Kate collapsed facedown onto her bed.
"What's wrong?" The slightly shorter of the two, Cassie, turned around and asked. "Tired." Kate's muffled voice spoke.
"How late were you out last night?" Cassie asked as she stood up, approaching her friend's bed. "Past 3," Kate said, making Cassie go wide-eyed. "Kate Bishop! The rule was 2:30 at the latest!"
Kate rolled over and lifted herself up. "I'm sorry." She pouted at her friend, who instantly pulled her into a comforting hug that turned into Kate leaning on Cassie's shoulder. "What else is wrong?" Cassie asked as she saw how exhausted Kate looked.
"Nothing," Kate said, but Cassie wasn't so sure. "Are you doing some overthinking?" Kate froze eventually before nodding. "What about?"
"Clint and the Tracksuits."
Kate spoke freely about her other life to Cassie.
Kate used to tell people openly about how she was working with an Avenger, but after what happened with her mom and Kingpin last year, she toned it down.
Now, the only people who know are Cassie, Pizza Dog, and a rouge assassin for hire. Plus, Clint and his family.
Cassie only found out when she woke up in the middle of the night to see Kate in her Hawkeye outfit on the floor.
Kate tripped, falling through the window, and busted her chin.
Kate wanted to tell more people like you. But as previously mentioned. She liked you and didn't want you to get hurt because of her.
So, she kept her Hawkeye circle small.
However, Kate couldn't get the idea out of her head... what if she told you?
"Kate?" Cassie poked the forehead of her dorm mate. "Where'd you go?" She asked.
Kate sat up and cracked her neck, ignoring the question. Cassie noticed as she raised her eyebrows and returned to her desk. Choosing schoolwork, Chemistry in particular, over prying answers from Kate.
"Do you think I should tell Y/N?" Kate spoke up and waited for Cassie to turn around. But she didn't.
"Cass?" Kate asked as she stepped off her bed and walked next to her friend. "Cass?" She asked again before realizing Cassie had put in her AirPods.
Cassie turned to her left and jumped, startled, before pulling them out. "Oh shit. What's up?!" Kate opened her mouth. "I..- nothing. I just was going to tell you that I.. wanted to.."
She couldn't do it.
"I wanted to invite Y/N to my archery practice!" Kate put on a smile and watched her friend's face light up.
"Oh my God, I love that! Please do it! Ugh, she's so pretty!" Cassie was happy for her friend finally doing something about her crush. "She is," Kate replied with a blush. "Think she'll show?" Kate then asked.
"Why wouldn't she?" Cassie tilted her head, entirely focused on the conversation.
Cassie and you had hung out briefly when your friend group and Kate's got together, but she has never witnessed how your superhero life affects you.
Kate shrugs. "Lately, Y/N has been... flaky isn't the right word.. but not here? I guess? She's always tired too. She bails on plans with her and Peter sometimes."
Cassie raised an eyebrow. "How do you know?"
"I've seen it at the library. Their study block is next to mine." Cassie nodded. "Plus, MJ's told me."
"Michelle Jones?" Cassie questions, making Kate nod. "She's roommates with Y/N, right?" Kate nods again. "Well, what does she think." Kate folds her lips into her mouth and raises her eyebrows.
"She thinks Y/N is The Spider."
Cassie's mouth drops before forming into a smile of laughter. "What?!" Kate nods with her own smile. "It's true. She's convinced."
Cassie laughs, making Kate giggle. "She took pictures of The Spider over a summer once. That doesn't mean she's THE Spider." Kate nodded as her smile naturally faded. "That would be funny," Kate said, making Cassie laugh again.
"Well, good luck with having your crush at practice tomorrow." Kate waved Cassie off as she went to the bathroom to shower and change. "Going out?" Cassie yelled through the closed bathroom door.
"Not till later. Why?" Kate replied as she took her top off. Her eyes finding a yellow bruise on her chest. "Looks like it's gonna snow."
And snow it did.
It started to come down after you stopped an armed robbery. Armed being used lightly as the men committing the crime were carrying toy guns.
Plus, the bank they chose to hit was a block down from a police station.
So, as you swung back up onto a nearby roof, snow hit your mask. You smiled and lifted up the mask to expose your mouth and nose. You inhaled and exhaled, watching your breath hang in the air.
The snow touched your face and melted against your warm pink cheeks.
It was cool and calming.
A few seconds of much-needed peace.
"I love snow." You whispered to yourself as the wind blew, making you shiver, but you remained now sitting on the roof with your smiling face to the darkened sky.
After enough time, you pulled out your phone.
"I should see if anyone needs any help." But before you could check the Friendly Neighborhood Spidey App, you were receiving a call from an unknown number.
"Ew, who calls anyone after 7?"
You weighed the options of answering it due to your fear of talking on the phone, but after three rings, you caved. "Hello?"
"Yes, hello, I'm calling for a Y/N Parker." The male voice on the other end sounded familiar.
"This is she." You said, standing up. "Ah, Y/N! Nice to put a voice to a list of your academic achievements." The male chuckled. "This is Dr. Otto Octavius." You physically stopped pacing and smiled. Holy crap! You were speaking to THE Dr. Octavius!
"Dr. Octavius! Hello! Wow, I can't believe you called. I take it Dr. Connors passed along... well, my life." You sent a small laugh Otto's way. "He did." He replied with a smile. "And I must say he was right; you're a bright student, Y/N."
You made a "yeah!" gesture with your arm.
"But-" Oh no! "I agree with Connors when he says you've been struggling. I can see just by looking at your grades and past reports that you're lazy. Brilliant but lazy."
"I- I'm trying to do better." You paved around the empty rooftop. "I've just had a lot of personal stuff happening lately."
The other side of the line went quiet.
"Parker, intelligence is not a privilege. It's a gift."
You opened your mouth to defend yourself, butDr. Octavius stopped you. Do you think you'll be free after the holidays?" You perked up at that and stood on your tiptoes.
Was he saying what you thought he was saying?
"Uh yes- yes sir! You'll have my undivided attention!"
Dr. Octavius hummed.
"On the second Monday after the new year, I'd like to speak with you face to face. From there, we can see how we'll proceed with one another. That's about a month away, Parker. That should give you time to get your other affairs in order."
You nodded your head. "Yes, sir. Thank you!"
"I'll email you the information and where to meet me two weeks from now. Happy Holidays."
The line went dead, and you cheered. You just got an interview with Dr. Otto Octavius. He called you lazy, but he also said you were brilliant!
You put your phone away and jumped off the roof of the building with an aloud cheer that you were certain people did not appreciate.
Meanwhile, Kate was unlocking the door to her aunt's place to meet up with Clint. What she wasn't expecting was for Clint to be there already.
"Trust me, I don't plan on missing two Christmas' in a row."
Clint was on the phone.
Kate quietly closed the door, dropped her bag, and quiver on the floor.
"Laura..." Clint sounded tired. "With Kingpin back, I'd feel awful if I left and something happened." Kate's lips formed into a flat line. "Yeah, no, she's great. Kicking ass on her own." Clint said and laughed when his wife replied back.
Kate tried to remain quiet, but a floorboard creaking under her left foot gave her away. Lucky's head shot up from Clint's lap, making the archer turn around. "Hey, babes, Hawkeye just arrived, so I gotta go. Yeah. Yeah. I'll be safe. Love you too."
Clint smiled before hanging up. "She says hi." Kate nodded and told Clint to tell Laura hi the next time they spoke.
Kate grabbed a spot on the loveseat next to the couch.
"I didn't hear you come in," Clint spoke up as he put his phone away. "Don't know if that's my old age or..." He tapped his ear. "Maybe I'm just getting better at sneaking around," Kate replied with a smile.
Clint nodded his head with a chuckle. Kate was saving him from embarrassment.
Clint was still struggling with his hearing loss.
"Yeah, well... maybe it's all three," Clint said as he looked away from Kate. His hand still petting the dog.
Something in the room always shifted when talks like these happened. It reminded the two archers that time and missions with one another were limited.
Clint couldn't do this forever.
He didn't want to do this forever. He had a family and a life outside of being Hawkeye.
But damn, if he wasn't going to miss someone, he considers family—an annoying girl who was somehow more skilled than him but clumsy as hell, Kate Bishop.
Clint kicked his tongue and scooted Lucky off his lap before getting up and grabbing a water from the ridge and a laptop from his bag. "While you were at school. I got a friend to do a little research."
Clint returned, sitting at the edge of the couch closest to Kate. He opened the laptop and clicked on a folder of files. Blueprints. Bank records. Phone calls and messages all popped up on the screen.
"A friend?" Kate asked with a knowing smirk.
Clint ignored her as he took a sip of water. Clicking on the map of the city. Certain buildings highlighted in red. Others in grey. "What am I looking at?"
"The red ones are the burned-down buildings." Kate took a look at the map again. "And the grey... Potential targets?" Clint nodded before clicking on another file. It was a picture taken by Clint last night. "This is a zoomed-in photo of the blueprint on the Tracksuits wall."
"Their next target?" Kate asked. "I think so. We find one of the grey buildings that matches this blueprint." He pointed to the screen. "We can stop them."
Stop them, hurt them, make them confess, give us the details and whereabouts of Wilson Fisk.
You know, that kind of stop them.
Kate looked at the screen again. She moved pieces of her hair behind her ears before leaning into the screen. "How do we know they'll target one of the grey ones?"
Clint moved the cursor on the screen and clicked on an open tab. Finical records. "The ones burned down and these ones." The ones highlighted grey. "Are all owned by different shell companies, but when you really start digging deep, you find that they all go to the same place. Red Lion National Bank."
"Kingpin," Kate said.
Clint nodded. "He owns them all."
"So what he uses these buildings as cash houses and then burns them down when they aren't needed?" Clint shrugged. "It's a working theory. I'm sure there's more involved than money." Kate agreed.
"This one looks like the blueprint. But... but so does this one." Kate said as she clicked between two different buildings.
"It's probably built by the same company that's why they're not so different." Clint thought. "We could go stake out one and see how much movement happens."
"Sounds good to me. Doesn't look that far away. I mean it's far but- you get what I mean." She flopped her hand at Clint.
He laughed.
"Alright well, let me go get changed and we'll be off." Clint stood up and clapped his hands. "Oh, I also already fed Lucky and took him out so no need to worry."
Pizza Dog perked his ears up.
"Awww did Uncle Clint already take care of you?" Kate turned on her baby voice as she leaned over to kiss and pet the dog. "You're such a good boy!" Lucky's tail started wagging. Clint playfully rolled his eyes as he walked to the bathroom.
As she waited Kate's mind started to wander.
"Alright, we just about ready?" Clint asked as he zipped up his vest and grabbed his bow. Kate stood up putting her phone into her pocket and nodded. "My stuff's by the door."
"Great." Clint and Kate made their way to the front door to finish gathering what they needed. "Oh, here." Clint tossed Kate a purple beanie.
She smiled and looked at Clint. "Occasion?"
"It's cold and snowing outside. Can't have you getting sick." Kate's heart warmed at that whether it was sarcastic or not. "Thanks. Where'd you get it?" She asked a she released her hair from its ponytail
"Stopped by my place in the city earlier. Found it in the closet."
What Clint failed to tell Kate is that the beanie wasn't store-bought.
It was handmade.
And before you ask. God, no Clint didn't spend hours crocheting a hat together.
Natasha Romanoff did.
"Looks better on you kid." Clint smiled as Kate dawned it with pride. "Hawkeye and Hawkeye. One with a beanie the other with a hearing aid!" Kate posed as if she was shooting an arrow and exaggerated her voice.
"Had to ruin it didn't you?" Clint teased as he opened the door.
"Bye, Lucky!" Clint waved to the dog before entering the hall. "Bye, Pizza Dog! Be good!" Kate flipped all but one light switched off and locked the door.
As the two archers made their trek to the location marked on Clint's phone he spoke up simply because he couldn't help himself.
"So... who were you texting earlier?"
Kate looked to her right confused. However, she knew what Clint was talking about. "Come on. Don't give me that look. I may be deaf at times but I'm never blind." Clint bumped into Kate as they kept waking. "Don't forget I'm also the father of a teenage daughter."
Kate had him there.
"A friend." She said. "Oh, a friend! Are they nice?" Kate nodded. "She's nice." Clint smiled. She. "Does she know about this?" Clint pointed to the arrows on Kate's back.
Kate shook her head. "She knows I do archery but that's it." Clint looked at Kate's side profile. "But you want to tell her?" Kate looked up. "How'd you know?"
Clint exhaled.
"Because Kate you like this friend of yours. You're young. Oh, and you're terrible at keeping secrets."
"Am not."
She was.
In Clint's eyes, it was a miracle the whole world didn't know the real identity of the "new" Hawkeye.
"Regardless, are you going to tell them?"
Kate shrugged. "I don't know."
Clint patted her shoulder. "That's alright." Kate smiled. "I invited her to my archery practice tomorrow and to study afterward. The text was about her coming over."
Clint raised his eyebrows. "Oh well as long as you're safe."
Kate furrowed her eyebrows and tilted her head. But before she could reply her phone buzzed.
It was a text from you.
"Sounds great! 🎯"
You smiled as you hit send.
Your fingers remained tightly gripped around your phone as you twhiped yourself through an alleyway.
You thought about double-texting Kate. Asking her how she was or what she was doing. Or why the sudden invite to her archery practice?
Was it just for fun? The want to hang out with you? Or did Kate truly just want to show off her toned arms and skills with a bow?
Could it be all of the above?
You closed out your messages app before you could accidentally send a double text and focused on your tingling.
