Found this excellent thread compiling the evolution of the DCU's Asian mothers - Lady Shiva, Shado, Cheshire, Talia Al Ghul and Linda Park.

Talia is the only one not entirely of East/South East Asian descent (for all the good that does her lmaoo DC absolutely hates Asian women), and I've mentioned earlier that she's still probably three-quarters Chinese (Ra's was originally a manifestation of the US's Yellow Peril, which later evolved into the "Arab World" anxieties around the Gulf War in the '90s and finally Arab terrorist tropes post 9/11). Still, considering Damian was introduced with Arab jihadist tropes, that Talia' still very much the "Arab terrorist woman", and the lack of West Asian characters in the DCU, it gave me a little thrill to see this:

A new rumor doing the rounds online is claiming that Boyd Holbrook (Logan, The Sandman) is in talks to play Harvey Dent/Two-Face in Matt Reeves' The Batman sequel…

Plot details for Matt Reeves' highly-anticipated sequel to The Batman are still under wraps, but several rumors relating to certain characters that could be introduced have been doing the rounds over the past few months. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn appeared to debunk reports that the likes of Scarecrow, Clayface, Professor Pyg, and Hush, were set to appear in the movie, but we're now hearing that Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, may have a part to play. According to CanWeGetSomeToast, Boyd Holbrook is in talks to play the classic Batman villain in the upcoming sequel. Holbrook has quite a bit of experience portraying bad guys, having appeared as Donald Pierce in Logan, The Corinthian in Netflix's The Sandman, and more recently, Kaber in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. When the new DCU slate was announced, James Gunn confirmed that Reeves' "BatVerse" will remain separate from the DCU, so this movie, along with Todd Phillips' Joker sequel, will be considered "Elseworlds" tales. A new actor will don the cape and cowl for Batman: The Brave and the Bold, which will also feature a different take on Robin - The Caped Crusader's son, Damian Wayne. Robert Pattinson, Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, and Colin Farrell are all expected to reprise their respective roles, and characters introduced in the Penguin Max spin-off series are also likely to appear. As far as official info goes, Reeves has stated that his sequel will continue this "epic crime saga," but that's about all we have to go on. One rumor did claim that the story will be at least partially based on Geoff Johns' Batman: Earth One. Of course, the first film took a certain amount of inspiration from Vol. 1, so we assume the sequel would be more influenced by Volumes 2 and 3. For those unfamiliar with the comic, Earth One takes place in the alternate continuity and features an updated and more realistic reinterpretation of the classic Batman origin and characters. Hush does not appear, but the later volumes do feature Clayface, Scarecrow, and a female take on Two-Face in Harvey Dent's twin sister Jessica. What do you make of this casting rumor? Assuming Two-Face will appear, do you think Holbrook would be a good pick for the character?

Orm could not imagine how hard it would be to convince the nobles that Syfin was not a suitable king, that Arthur was a true and good king for Atlantis. They were so stubborn, so set in their old ways that the idea of having a half-human king was still disgusting and below them. They tolerated it because he had the trident, but if another came forward, why shouldn’t they be given the chance? They were pure blood after all.

“Why does he not accept a challenge from Syfin?” one of the nobles asked while Orm sat in council with them. Orm frowned.

“Has a challenge been brought forward?” he asked. The noble shook his head. “Perhaps Syfin knows that he is weaker than the current king.”

“He probably knows that the half-breed would cheat, all surface dwellers know is deception,” another noble said. Orm had to take a breath and fight rolling his eyes.

“That is not all surface dwellers know, I have met many of them, and they are just like us. We are not unfamiliar with being deceptive and from cheating to get what we want,” he responded. There was a soft murmur.

“Yes, you have spent quite some time on the surface. Marrying one of them and bringing another half-breed into the royal line,” another said. Orm clenched his fists tight, trying to contain his anger.

“Keep my wife and child out of this,” he said, voice cut with an edge. There was a shift in the room, he hoped he hadn’t ruined this. He wanted to convince them Arthur was king without having a challenge brought forth.

“Either way, the family has entered Atlantis again, they are royal, and they have a right to question who is leading Atlantis,” Roius, the highest noble in the room, said. He was matter of fact, voice even, but Orm knew that he was hiding something. Roius had first supported him, then when the tide seemed to be turning to Arthur, had jumped ship. He was sniffing to see where power was, hoping to latch himself on the winner and keep in their good graces. “Orm, you as advisor to the king should have him prove his reasoning for keeping this family under arrest, or we, as the other nobles will raise our concerns louder and bring more force.”

“You would risk a revolt for this family?” Orm questioned. “You claim to care about Arthur being an outsider, but these royals have been exiled for many years, why are they not also considered outsiders?”

“Well, I think we can all agree that King Orvex exiled them without cause, we wouldn’t want another tyrant like that being our king, would we?” Roius asked, eyes now narrowed at Orm. Orm took another deep breath, know that he was stuck now. He couldn’t defend Orvex without it bringing into question Arthur’s legitimacy and he couldn’t argue for Arthur without stepping all over Atlantian tradition.

“Arthur has never done anything without reason, he has even shown me great mercy and understanding. I highly doubt his keeping this family contained is without reason,” Orm said back, trying to keep calm.

“He has no proof. Either he provides proof of their crimes, or he releases them from their quarters and allows them all the freedoms he allows other Atlantians. If doesn’t do this, we will remove him from his throne” Roius said. The nods around the room showed Orm that he was finished. He rose and left, quickly finding Arthur and Mera in their quarters.

“How did the council take it? Can we send the others away?” Mera asked, clearly thinking that Tom would be able to come home. Orm sighed and her face fell.

“The nobles have clearly been influenced, even with the family confined they were able to convince the others that you are being a tyrant, they are innocent, and you are keeping them locked up without reason. The nobles have demanded that you release them, or they will revolt and remove you from power,” Orm said. Arthur was still, clearly thinking quickly. He sighed after a few moments.

“I have no choice but to release them, if the nobles throw me off the throne, then I am finished, our family is finished, no one can protect Tom, or Y/N and Velka, we’d have to flee and honestly that Lydia would probably force you to marry her just to make sure she can kill you,” he said. Mera looked stricken. “I am going to get proof of what they have done, but until then they are free to move about, we will have to be on guard and just because they are free doesn’t mean I can’t put some trusted guards on them, I mean, someone has been targeting royals, they will need protection.” Orm nodded. It was the best they could do right now.

The first few days after the family was set free were quiet. Orm almost thought that they were going to let everything be, would just be grateful to be allowed into society again. Then Lydia and Hestia came to him in his office, asking for a meeting to discuss the challenge Lydia had made. Orm waited for them to make the first move, patience was key now when dealing with them.

“My daughter made a hasty decision to challenge your betrothed, at the time it seemed right, but that was before we knew that on the surface world you were married, and she was with child. We don’t hold much care for the surface world’s laws but the commitment of marriage spans over our two peoples. We will respect your marriage, rescind the challenge, and allow you to marry here. We would love to attend the wedding and apologize in person for our impertinence against your betrothed,” Hestia said, voice dripping with honey. This was a trick, get Y/N back here so they could do something to her, try to hurt her. He was getting an idea, but he needed everyone on board before he did it.

“I understand, Lydia wanted to integrate herself and I mean, she is not the first to be infatuated with me, I can see now she knows that she was foolish, but she is young and will learn from this. Let me speak with Y/N and the king about this and perhaps we will have our wedding soon and if they agree you will all be invited,” he said, being diplomatic, bringing a grin to his face that was hollow, but the women didn’t seem to notice. Let them think he was turning over a new leaf, afraid of the threat the other nobles made, afraid of them and wanting to please them. He was going to get proof of their crimes and he would help send them away again. He was going to keep his family safe.

feeling completely unhinged about batman, this is going to sound insane. but I think making Tim Drake the bisexual Robin was homophobic.

Our options were the guy has been crossdressing since the Golden Age, the guy who dresses like a leather daddy, the kid who has never had a love interest and is constantly dealing with other people's expectations. They went with option number 4 the guy who is essentially written as a blank slate for readers to project onto with little to no thought for whether or not this created an interesting dynamic with other characters. Though Dick Grayson and Jason Todd were both created very deliberately as foils for Bruce Wayne, with personalities that contrasted against Bruce, Tim Drake was designed as a foil for Jason, in opposition to all of Jason's character traits after Jason proved unpopular due to a combination of classism and the editors and writers just wanting a different direction for his character than the readers did. This design decision for Tim Drake ended up with a character whose personality traits are functionally the same as Bruce, but whose purpose is Blank Slate. As a result his character is and always has been a gigantic pile of contradictions, with him simultaneously being an unpopular nerd and having tons of friends and being both relatable middle class and wealthy enough to denigrate the lower class characters in the minds of the writers. Unlike pretty much every other character in Batman, Tim has no special skills that make him stand out as an expert in a particular field or give him a special place on the team, so writers and fans alike both constantly shove him into the roles of other characters, pushing out their expertise and messing with the dynamics. It's incredibly common to see Tim positioned as the """expert detective""" or """techy expert"""" despite this having very little basis in canon when compared to other writers. Yeah whatever Tim figured out Bruce was Batman but Duke Thomas prepared to go toe to toe with the Riddler when he was TEN and figured out Dick Grayson's identity despite Dick literally having face erasing tech and through that was able to extrapolate on everyone else's identities. Tim's fanon position as as the T E C H Y is one that's been stolen from Harper Row and Barbara Gordon, who was the most powerful unpowered character in the DCU but has had her accomplishments gradually and continually downplayed and erased since 1986. This lack of specialization for Tim and his characterization as the everyman relatable blank slate have held him back as the character continues to fail in being given his own identity, which relates to his continuous deaging, a trait largely only shared by women. In fact the deaging of Tim DRake has gotten so bad that the current timeline implication is that Dick fired Tim from being Robin when Tim was TWELVE in order to give Robin to a TEN year old as opposed to the 17 Tim was when the actual comic was released, as Damian is aging but Tim has not.

The common claim that Tim is """""most popular""" and """""""Best""""" Robin is one that's honestly unbacked, and believed only because Tim stans are so goddamn loud. Before his shit, shit run started 2 weeks ago Tim Drake had not held his own solo title in 12 years, whereas Dick Grayson has continually held one for 26 years and spent decades starring in long running back ups and team books prior to that. The reality that Tim stans don't want to admit is that Tim is bisexual because editorial didn't give a shit about him until he came out and it got people talking. They'll often lift up examples of him being "queercoded" prior to him coming out but it's really very notable that all of Tim's instances of "queercoding" are related to shipbaiting with Superboy. On the other hand Dick crossdressed until the Comics Code slammed the ban hammer on queerness because of his existence, openly stated in 2004 that he was alright with homophobes assuming that he's gay, has had several uniforms with influence from queer fashion, and despite being ostensibly straight has been featured on multiple Pride themed comic covers. Next to him is Jason who habitually covers himself in leather and wears a muzzle and said his girlfriend was a good kisser "for a girl". Instead of examining these adult characters relationships to queer masculinity, including Dick Grayson being a gay icon since the 1940s who has literally influenced gay culture, the queer Robin that we got is the run of the mill middle class white high school boy whose writing immediately shifted to QUEER ROMCOM UTOPIA as soon as he came out. The first issue of his solo run is a notable example with complete fluff, Tim claiming that his relationship with his boyfriend Bernard is more "real" than his relationships with his past girlfriends, and Bernard the schlubby conspiracy theorist previously dressed in hoodies suddenly wearing artfully ripped skinny jeans and a statement blazer. Even outside of this issue, the past year sicne Tim came out has seen his and Bernard's flaws and eccentricities scrubbed away in favor of gay cotton candy, rendering Tim somehow even blander and less interesting than before.

But I haven't even gotten to the worst part yet. I haven't slammed the hammer down. Here's the real bombshell on Tim Drake and why him being the lone bisexual Robin for who knows how long is homophobic.

Tim Drake's one solid long lasting character trait until he came out, the ONE aspect of his personality that genuinely stood out, totally unique to him, his place in the family? Was being a fucking asshole. Not only did he break into Batman's house to demand he get over the death of his son, not only did he refuse to allow Dick to grieve his third dead parent when they believed Bruce was dead, but Tim Drake has been cheating on his partners since he started dating. Despite only being created at the very tale end of the 1980s, Tim Drake has had nine love interests in main continuity. This is a feat accomplished by dating three girls at once. Yet it's Dick Grayson - the Romani man - who gained a fandom reputation for being a womanizer and in fanon a cheater, despite having only around a dozen love interests and existing for nearly three times as long as Tim.

tl;dr the bisexual Robin shouldn't be the one who habitually cheats on his partners, there's queercoding besides shipbaiting, Tim Drake sucks, stan Dick Grayson instead

This OC comes from Old money, something happens which causes his metagene to activate while he's intoxicated, he is physically enhanced but cannot control it, a glass cannon if you will, Batman gets to him, and he ends up losing the left side of his body, his arm, his leg, part of his lung and ribs. While rotting in Arkham he meets Bane, and gets the idea of using outside influence to enhance his body so he's normal again. Breaking out with the help of Ivy, maybe he sympathized with her, he makes his way back to his parents, blaming the bat for his incarceration and disfigurement, like what happened with Harvey dent in the Heath Ledger Movies where he pinned the death of Dent on Batman. His parents, learning that he was out drinking with friends when this happened and wasn't ROBBING A BANK like witnesses and the Bat claimed, they sued Arkham and the justice system, as well as the "witnesses" who didn't actually witness anything. Using the money they start producing shit for amputees with the metagene. "Insert Villain" ends up targeting and killing his parents, while he was in Metropolis, meeting with Lex Luthor about funding, upon his return he is again, captured and thrown into Arkham, this time, with his enhancements. At 29 he breaks out, spends his first birthday outside of Arkham alone, and tracks down those that incarcerated him, again, and those involved with his parents murder. Killing them in front of the Bat, while mocking him. From the Bats Perspective: A meta is causing an issue, very much obviously intoxicated. Ends up falling threw a bank window with his equally intoxicated buddies. The Bat brings him to a hospital, dropping him off outside Oracle calling in that a wounded meta was left by the front doors, he's 23. He gets convicted, Batman is trying to figure out why, someone is pulling the strings to create a villain. Brucie Wayne Donates to the cause, to help him get prosthetics that will assist with his enhancements, Batman does research and sends blueprints through Wayne Tech to assist. Bruce meets with the parents during his trip to Metropolis, and is the last known person to have seen them alive. Bruce has an alibi in the form of several public speeches of his support of the family. Tried to argue in court that Micah was out of state in Metropolis, no one listened. Working behind the scene with Red Hood to find who is making them, only to be faced with him years later, using an alias "Genesis."

Friendship with Arkillo is no easy feat. Bro'Dee knew that, has known that since the hostility of their first meeting turned to an apparent claiming from the Yellow Lantern. A strange, questionable basis for friendship, but Bro'Dee suspects it may be the only basis Arkillo could comprehend with such a violent, adversarial history. If the other Lantern allows it, Bro'Dee would help him learn differently, learn more about connection.

His impact against the rock face is hard and jarring, but he only relinquishes a slight grunt. Arkillo's massive hand encompasses his torso, palm across his chest while fingers grip his shoulder and thumb digs into his opposite side. He hasn't pierced scales and drawn blood- not yet- but Bro'Dee can feel the bruises forming where he's been squeezed and swatted, hidden beneath his fittingly black and blue uniform. He never once retaliated, only evading like the very wind when he could, in turn only enraging Arkillo further. Even now, as he is pinned by this being that could so easily snap him in two, Bro'Dee doesn't resist nor concede. White, beady eyes bore into large, black ones, unwavering and unwilling to look away from Arkillo. A threatening, warning growl earns no further response from the captured Astonian.

The growl turning into an angry snarl, Arkillo slams Bro'Dee against the jagged rock a second time, grabbing ahold of the smaller being's head-tail and yanking hard. Despite the red hot agony this treatment brings, his head snapping backwards into the stone with the force, bioluminescent markings pulsing a sharp red out from the impact, Bro'Dee continues to remain pliant. Arkillo gathers up more of the sinewy appendage before pulling even harder, but Bro'Dee only bares his teeth in a pained grimace. Fury reaches a fever pitch within the Vornian, his own jagged teeth encircling the forcibly offered neck, piercing the flesh and staining himself with blue-purple blood. Bro'Dee squeezes his eyes shut at the feeling of a long tongue lapping at his new wounds, an unidentifiable feeling squirming in his stomach, forcing himself to remain still. Not that he has a choice anymore.

And ‘tis not even an objection to his casting, the aesthetics, not the DC movie universe as a whole. Nay. Nay I say, with much over the top ridiculousness to blunt the edge of any inclination one might have to treat this post seriously because Somebody On The Internet Is Being Wrong persists as a problem that occasionally besets us all. No? That’s literally just me projecting and my experiences are not actually universal? Huh. Weird. Not sure I like that. ANYWAY, to return to the afore-mentioned NAY I SAY(s)....my grudge match is against Batfleck’s characterization and Batfleck’s characterization only. Consider this my love letter to how absurd I find it, rather than an invitation to The Discourse as even my substantial history of arguing molehills into Mount Everests isn’t up to the task of expanding on a thesis that is basically just “I just think it sucks and I hate it, bye.”

James Gunn: I Was Never Making A 'Young Superman' Movie

Are we getting a Young Superman movie? Last November, Peter Safran and the Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker took over as Co-CEO's of DC. Gunn started making big adjustments, the first of which was to start the DC Universe after ending the DC Extended Universe. Ever since James Gunn opted to replace a number of loved actors for the DC Universe (DCU), he has faced criticism from fans. The Young Superman Rumor David Corenswet, a younger actor, took Henry Cavill's position as The Man Of Steel. In defense of his decision, the Suicide Squad director claimed that Cavill did not match his concept for the future film. Fans, however, are uncertain about Gunn's plans for the DC Universe in light of his most recent disclosure. The Superman: Legacy writer, director, and co-president of DC Studios took to Threads to address a misconception about the film and the rationale for the casting change from 40-year-old Henry Cavill to 30-year-old David Corenswet. If Gunn's movie is set in the past, a fan inquired. The director Gunn said, "I was never making a 'Young Superman' movie, just a Superman movie!" According to rumors, Superman: Legacy will focus on a younger Superman than Cavill Back in December 2022, Gunn appeared to make it very clear that Cavill's age was the main reason for removing him from the Superman role. "Henry Cavill won't be playing Superman since the opening phases of the plot will center on an earlier period of the character's existence", the director wrote on Twitter. With Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Corenswet (Netflix's The Politician) was introduced Superman in June. They were just two of the numerous actors who auditioned for the main parts; Tom Brittney and Nicholas Hoult were also up for the role. Now Gunn is also attempting to create a version of the character that would please practically all of the fans. We have to assume that it wouldn't make sense to rehire Cavill and use his version. The public strongly disagreed with James Gunn's choice to let go of Henry Cavill. The actor receives praise for his depiction of the character and has also has the support of the fans. Some fans would like the idea of Cavill's comeback and allow WB to explore two versions of Superman, just like there are two versions of Batman.  Gunn plans to begin filming for Superman: Legacy in early 2024, and the movie will be released on July 11, 2025. There will also be casting for more characters like Lex Luthor and the superhero team The Authority. The movie is the first thing that Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran will oversee in its entirety.
