Tseng is an alien? I thought he was Chinese?
There's a pretty wide consensus in the fandom that Tseng is from Wutai (Wutaian), but that's not actually confirmed in the FFVII canon. He could just as easily be from Midgar or any other part of Gaea. He's not Chinese because China doesn't exist in the FFVII world. Wutai has a distinctly East Asian flavor visually, along with the area music and spiritual aspects of Wutai culture being reminiscent of East Asian religions/philosophies. Not everyone from Wutai looks Asian though (see: Yuffie the much better examples given in all the great reblogs since I made this post!), so again, it's really anyone's guess where Tseng is from originally.
Personally, I kinda like the idea of him being born and raised in Midgar! :3

Found this excellent thread compiling the evolution of the DCU's Asian mothers - Lady Shiva, Shado, Cheshire, Talia Al Ghul and Linda Park.
Talia is the only one not entirely of East/South East Asian descent (for all the good that does her lmaoo DC absolutely hates Asian women), and I've mentioned earlier that she's still probably three-quarters Chinese (Ra's was originally a manifestation of the US's Yellow Peril, which later evolved into the "Arab World" anxieties around the Gulf War in the '90s and finally Arab terrorist tropes post 9/11). Still, considering Damian was introduced with Arab jihadist tropes, that Talia' still very much the "Arab terrorist woman", and the lack of West Asian characters in the DCU, it gave me a little thrill to see this:

It's from a fan created book called Gotham: (1919 - 1939) by the boutique publishing company Giant Panda King. It's not a DC affiliated or authorized one, but it's still the first time I'm seeing such a gorgeous face claim.

It's December 5th!
Am I sharing some gorgeous, thought provoking, Van Gogh Quotes this month?
Absolutely I am.
Am I also sharing a Question of the Day inspired by the daily quote, and then inviting you all to answer them with me?
I absolutely am doing that too!

If you want to play the rules are simple. Answer the question, and then tag forward! I'm leaving all my posts this month as open tags so feel free to join at any time. <3

Question of the Day!
Tell us about something your character doesn’t think they can do?
My Answer:
Lizzy doesn’t think she can trust people. Growing up around the fey of the Arbaon Court, it’s a smart move for her not to trust anyone, but once she arrived in the mortal realm that mindset caused her more problems than anything else. She’s going to have to learn to trust people and rely on people other than herself as the trilogy progresses.

Pariah Dark is NOT a Viking
(Disclaimer: all dates are approximate since sources cannot seem to ever agree on the dates)
So, I’ve been working through a redesign of Misery Vex, but before I could do that, my brain took me down a rabbit hole on Pariah Dark and his design.
Tumblr media
Pariah Dark always struck me as a Viking when I was a kid.  Maybe it was the accent or his size or his giant mane of hair; whatever the reason, he feels like a Viking.
Which makes no sense, because there’s nothing about his design that is Viking.  Now dont' get me wrong; I realize it's a kid's show with a limited budget and is heavily stylized to be simpler and easier to animate, but it's implied he’s wearing plate armor with big, metal gauntlets and boots, a huge cape.  Actual Norse warriors during the viking era wore chainmail or leather armor and offset wool cloaks.  Not to mention that Vikings did NOT wear horned helmets.  Horned helmets are not a Viking thing!
I mean, does this look anything like Pariah's design?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then there’s the thing that’s bothered me the most about his design since I was a kid: the beard.  The very clearly Egyptian false beard.  Why would you put an Egyptian beard on a guy that makes me think of evil Odin?!
In reality, it’s probably because Fartman doesn’t have an ounce of creativity behind his thought processes other than ripping off other comic designs…
So maybe Pariah was a Viking (793-1066 AD) and ruled for a few hundred years.  Very good, bully for you, sir.  But then it brings up the question of why Pandora would allow such a dangerous upstart to rise to power?  This guy is basically a child compared to her.
But the pharoah’s beard and horned helmets were in fashion during the Bronze age…
So instead of a Viking, what if Pariah was one of the Sea People during the Bronze age collapse (1200-1150 BC).  One of the Sherdan?
If Pariah is from the Bronze age, then he predates Pandora by a few centuries (Theogony was written around 700 BC).  And even if it took him centuries to rise to power as the Ghost King, now he’s been ruling over the Ghost Zone for thousands of years.  It’s also a lot more in line with his design.
Horned helmets are worn by the Sherdan in multiple reliefs from that period.  Pariah’s armor is also a lot more similar to either the segmented plate armor the sea people wore or the sculpted cuirasses worn by Greeks in the Bronze age. Swords were one of the preferred weapons. Plus, that front flap thing is pretty similar to the big belts worn by the Egyptians or the large, starched portions of their pleated shents.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to mention the false beard he’s sporting, used in depictions of the gods and worn by pharaohs to imitate Osiris, the King of the Dead.  Something rather fitting for him to wear in that day and age.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After ruling for centuries, it’s more than possible that Pariah has changed up his look more than a few times, always pieces and styles from whatever people was most feared at the time.  Always adding and removing bits and pieces with a few things making up his core aesthetic.  Adopting Spartan and then Roman armor, modeling parts of himself after the Huns.  And yes, I think it’s more than reasonable that after a few thousand years, he had a soft spot for Vikings who sailed and raided around 800AD considering his own background as a Bronze Age pirate.  Even later, he could have adopted the full plate armor that Fright Knight wears around the 14th century.
But always, he looks like a warrior, a ruler.
A King.
And what’s a king without his queen?
(sorry, not sorry Dark Age shippers. Clockwork deserves better!)

Do you know what came out today, 60 years ago?
Tumblr media
"Zio Paperone e il kiwi volante" written by Abramo and Giampaolo Barosso and drawn by Giorgio Bordini is Rockerduck's very first italian story and his all time second appearance in comics.
First published on Almanacco Topolino #75 dated 1st March 1963, not only it marked the beginning of John's astonishing italian career but it also holds the merit of starting a brief new strike of stories starring Rockerduck written by american authors, first and foremost Fethry's creator Dick Kinney.
Bordini's Rockerduck is still very similar to Barks', so much so that some poses of the character are reproduced exactly from Barks' drawings in "Boat Buster". "Zio Paperone e il kiwi volante" is the only story in which Rockerduck's drawn by Bordini, starting from his third story the character then ends up in Romano Scarpa's capable hands who defines his ultimate design. A design moved forward by other great artists such as Giovan Battista Carpi and Giorgio Cavazzano.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Barks' panels from "Boat Buster" (1961) and Bordini's from "Zio Paperone e il kiwi volante" (1963) face to face.
Despite being such a corner stone for Rockerduck's character, "Zio Paperone e il kiwi volante" (which translates as "Uncle Scrooge and the flying kiwi") is not a very well known story. In Italy it got re-printed only three times (latest one being in 2006), while internationally it's been published only in Belgium, Brazil, France, Spain, Germany and Turkey with very few re-prints and in pretty old editions too 😔 (I know it's not the masterpiece of the century, but it's a fun 60s story and I'd like to see it get a re-print more often).
Fun fact: in "Zio Paperone e il kiwi volante" Rockerduck and Scrooge address each other as "Mr. Rockerduck" and "Mr. McDuck" and they use the courtesy pronoun "voi" (second person plural). They keep being... err... "formally civil" to each other until 1966 but only in stories written in italian, while in translated works (such as stories produced by Disney for the foreign market) they are on first name basis 🤷
Tumblr media
"You'll have to walk over my dead body!" "That's exactly what I intend to do!" Their first italian brawl, rigidly on courtesy pronoun basis... history!

I plopped all my clerics in one place.
Tumblr media
(I swear I must be missing someone. Only five? What? 😅)
Roughly left-to-right (and in order of creation):
Theadoria Blaire - Light domain; granted power by Sune; was a tavern server, 6'1", slender and snake-hipped, Scottish accent, half-elf but you almost can't tell because her hair is so fluffy/curly; would have made more sense as a paladin the way I played her but oh well; one-on-one fought an orc chief (and won); trained for and won a joust; fell in love with a guy who turned out to be semi-undead (and didn't know it) and found a way to return his soul to him; the party's mentor character was inside a ring of mind shielding that she wore throughout the campaign (until she gave it to the villain - plot twist!).
Galea Ptolemov - Knowledge domain; grew up among a cloister of other scholarly priests; follower of our homebrew pantheon's Lorgha, goddess of fate (among other things); didn't know she was an aasimar but was out searching for the truth of her parentage when she got arrested for heresy by an invading army/nation; traded a hand, an eye, and a year of service to what became my favorite NPC of all time (the Bone Fairy) in exchange for knowledge; became a powerful celestial entity in her own right by campaign's end by absorbing the fractured pieces of a truly ancient fallen archangel.
Astreia DuVal - Forge domain; blacksmith's daughter from a little village, went on to join the military; knew Sildar Hallwinter (from the Lost Mines of Phandelver module); made a cool crystaline warhammer in the old Gontelgrim forge (in our Out o the Abyss campaign); we had a running joke (that I don't remember the origin of, smh) where we would call each other "so wise 👀" at ridiculous moments, but by the end Astreia ended up with like a 22 WIS because of the Maze Engine (which I believe was on the fritz and she managed to patch it up?) and then she really was so wise.
Ezra Sunstar - You know my CoS boy, right? Trickery domain (also multiclassed Phoenix Sorcerer); watched by the Traveler. Like Galea, he didn't know what he was (a fire genasi), but unlike Galea, had a traumatic childhood based around that lack of understanding; discovered who his parents really were just to find out they're at least as traumatized as he is; has been a third wheel in just about every circumstance under the sun, which he returned the Barovian sky btw; put Alek Gwilym back together; lost a hand to Vampyr; is adamant that Strahd is not a monster and there must be hope for him yet.
Kipper - Tempest cleric; sweet dumb little guy; loves fish (for breakfast); started following around his bronze dragonborn barbarian friend because he thought he was an actual dragon and possibly a god; has finally started to figure out he's the one doing a lot of this magic stuff (it's really coming from Tempus); his Guiding Bolt is flavored like a lightning breath weapon in-world; his "warhammer" is an old tool from the dragonborn's leatherworking set; has been carrying around and taking care of a large egg since they fought a bunch of harpies and he stole one out of a nest (its name is Oatmeal).

What is your main inspiration for your character?
Tumblr media
OOC: My dad.
Initially when I came up with Eld, I was really angry with him and in turn my plan was to make him an antagonist to my other main Zexx. I apparently am a bit of self absorbed self inserter, but hey you write what you know and I try my best to know myself.
Regardless, after a time I began to ease up on my old man and in turn I felt that Eld/Zexx needed the same. So I started crafting a bit more to him and came up with the beginnings of my multiverse headcanon to explain why he was even alive.
I made him back in Cata, so birthday was in 2010-2011 and I didn't really start hard into playing him as Eldridge Candell till BFA so that makes the character played and built about 5-6 years old. I really like the niche I put him in and have been writing as well, monster of the week hunting and grimdark in WoW are my jams.
Thanks for the question Anon!

Since we are talking about religious planets... Is the Knowing like God? Why did Gabriel fall? Did he kill somebody or something? I mean, that's how my friend's grandpa was expelled from his tribe. (Over sharing, sorry)
The Knowing is for sure derived more from a more Catholic/Christian type of God but with a bit more magic involved. That, and the celestials were much more involved with the lives they were set to protect. It is really unclear, even to someone like Gabriel, if they just watched over one world or if they watched over many. Depending on your ranking within the divine courts, different information was available. As for how he fell, that is going to be revealed within the story so I can't necessarily give that one out. But, it is clear, that even with him having been kicked out, he still holds a lot of the beliefs and teachings true. Which, is problematic, I think we can all agree.

The Casket Girls of New Orleans & Birth of an Immortal
Tumblr media
October 1735 - New Orleans, LA
Annabella Maria Elizabeth LeFebvre stepped off of the ship and onto the gangplank.  The trip from France finally over.  She and the other women on the vessel were embarking on a new life in New Orleans and the Louisiana territory, one that none of them were quite sure of.   They had been contracted to be brides of the merchants and trappers in the French colony.  Some were happy about this, many were not.  Annabella Marie was a little different than the others, she had been sent for a specific gentleman rather than to be inspected and selected like she was some form of chattel.
They were called Casket Girls for their luggage.  Depending on who you ask, their bags were anywhere from the size of a modern overnight bag to that of a steamer trunk, and then some claim they were the same height as the women.  They were “filles à la cassette” (women with suitcases).  “Cassette” morphed in time to “casquette” and then with the retelling of the story “casket” in English.  Paranormal fiction and folklorists have also not helped the case of the poor women conscribed to come to the mosquito ridden Louisiana shores and marry the men that the Catholic Church were sure to turn to lechery if upstanding French women were not sent over.  They have turned the contents of their luggage from petticoats and dresses into vampires and all other manner of creature.  They have romanticized what was most certainly one of the least romantic experiences for a woman of the time.  But it was one that Annabella LaFebvre was conscripted to by her family to try to gain status, and as a woman of the time, she had little choice but to go.
Within a week of landing on the shores of New Orleans, Annabella had married Etienne Fahey, a French-Irish nobleman and wealthy merchant.  Her station was elevated from what she had in France, but it was not what she had expected.  New Orleans was not what you see today, but was a grouping of houses that expanded out from Fort St. Charles.  There was no French Quarter or Garden District.  Those would not come for some time.
While Etienne was wealthy by the standards of the area and their home was larger than most, it was far from the estates of France, or what the area would hold in the future.  In addition to this, Annabella’s husband was often gone for weeks and months at a time acquiring the goods he would sell to the plantations and other cities within the territory.  During these times, she was left alone to tend the home and raise their eventual children.  Etienne and Annabella would have 8 children, only 4 surviving infancy.
After 10 years is when the attack came in the night.  Even to this day, Annabella could not say what or who it was that slaughtered her family.  She could say that she fought with every fiber of her being to defend those she loved, but at the end of the night she was the only one breathing as dawn’s light crested the trees along the banks of the Mississippi.  It was then she saw Jean Pierre and Armaund.  They offered her a different kind of life, an immortal one, and a chance to keep what had just happened to her family from happening to others.  She took it.
In the following almost 400 years, New Orleans has changed a lot and Annabella has been there through it all.  Now owning an apartment in the French Quarter, a stately home in the Garden District, a plantation along River Road, and a home in Baton Rouge as well, she hunts and keeps those things in line that “go bump in the night”.  Able to search memories and pull out even the most buried of them, her gifts often help other immortals around the globe who do the same kind of work she does.
Annabella was trained personally by Jean Pierre and his husband Armaund.  They helped her through the ritual with the Voodoo Queen and adapting to an immortal life and the powers that she had newly acquired.  Through the years, they became friends, then even closer to becoming family.  She calls them her big brothers, all of the rest of her family long lost to history.  Unlike the family that sent her to a foreign land to marry a man who neither loved her nor had ever met her, they have looked out for her over the years and helped her many times.  In turn, she has done the same and they now have developed a bond and rapport of true siblings, sometimes to the chagrin of other immortals that they work together with
Through the years, Annabella Marie has never had another serious relationship.  This is not because of some respect for Etienne.  She never truly loved him, but did love her children.  It is rather because she has never met a man who she was attracted to and respected enough to engage in a relationship with.  She had a loveless marriage once, and she will never go through that again.  This doesn’t mean, however, that she has been celibate.  She makes no apologies for how she lives her life and asks no one’s approval.  She may have been given no choice in her early life, but she will live her life now on her terms.

One thing that is very much in the back of my mind while working on my comic is the way my characters have grown, both in the sense of how they've grown within the story, and, just as importantly, the way they grew up. It's not a part of the comic proper, but I've thought through the whole story of how Hikari has grown up, leading to how she is now.

Fake comic book math time.
It's been 83 years since Dick Grayson was first introduced as an eight-year-old. Going by Tim's age, five years passed between COIE and Flashpoint. This means 1 year of comic book time corresponds to approx 4.5 years in real time.
So, if comics had progressed in a linear fashion, 18.4 comic book years would have passed since Dick's original debut. Which would make him 26.4 years old by now.
I just find it very funny that he would be the age we envisioned him to be after his last stint as Batman. He really has been in his 20s forever. xD

Question of the Day!
What keeps your protagnist going, even when their world is ending?
My Answer:
Sheer stubborness? That’s an easy answer, but if we want to get deep then it’s probably a foundational need to prove that Lizzy has worth and strength. As a fey without wings, she’s been dismissed and overlooked by almost everyone she’s ever encountered. There’s a deep seated desire to be useful, to prove herself, to find somewhere she belongs. Where her skills and talents can be an asset, and where she is ultimately appreciated.

MC Relationship History
Open Tag from @writingpotato07
Don't know who to tag, so anyone that wants to
Rules: briefly (or not) describe what kinds of intimate relationships (platonic, romantic, sexual, or otherwise) your MCs have had PRIOR TO THE BOOK STARTING. Have they had their hearts ripped out before jumping into your fluffy romance? Are they aro/ace and have never been in a long-term relationship before?
Abriella - dated a human, Enrique, who she almost gave up her powers for but did not. Leviathan at one time owned the deed to her soul, but they were not in a relationship. She was mated to Abbadon, the Destroyer. That mating has been voided and is the cause of current drama and strife.
Cruz - his relationship history is murky. He is secretive and selective in what he shares. There have been women he has been close to but no one knows the extent of their relationships. He is fiercly protective of Abriella. Arch is his best friend and they are closer than brothers.
Olly - before becoming the Horseman of Conquest, Olly was a playboy and slept around. Since taking up the mantle of a Horseman, he's been celibate of his own choice. Life has become more serious and with the things going on, he hasn't really had the time or inclination to go looking for love.
Deacon - being a gay man made Deacon feel like an outsider for most of his life. He's come to terms with it, and is accepted by his friends, but he hasn't found anyone that he feels comfortable enough to explore a realtionship with. He's the most reserved of the Four Horsemen in all respects. There are things coming for him though. He is very close to Abriella and Arch.
Arch - Like Cruz, no one knows much about his romantic history. There are rumors that he is gay or bi. No one knows for sure, and no one is brave enough to ask. Abriella and Cruz are like family to him. Deacon he treats as a son, working with Deacon's true father often.
Dez - while Dez hasn't had any formal relationships of mention, he has had casual partners of both genders and some that cannot be defined by human terms. Dez was once close to Abriella, having been her patrol and fighting partner when they would hunt demons that roamed the streets of Chicago before she was called as the Horseman of Death. He has always bumped heads with Cruz, which has not improved since his death and resurrection. Dez and Olly are forming a friendship that confuses
Talon - Talon was at one time close friends with both Abriella, Cruz, and Dez. Due to actions of his mother, Clotho, and sister Talia, he separated from them and had gone off lost contact. Due to a contrived situation where he thought Talia had been kidnapped by Leviathan, the four were reunited and he is rebuilding those friendships. While Talon and Abriella had never dated, there was a connection between them that was closer than mere friendship. That bond has almost completely been mended. In addition to rebuilding his previous friendships, Deacon has become his best friend over their love of video games and gaming night. While Deacon is more reserved to Talon's more extroverted nature, the two are often found together hanging out.
Kellen - As King of Uffern, he has courted many females in search of a Queen for his realm. None have measured up to his standards. His best friends are Grae, his Chancellor, and his two brothers: Karlen and Korben. His two sisters are more of a challenge to his sanity: Calliope and Persephone.
Grae - Grae has shunned romantic entanglements due to his position. Most of the those he's been interested in pursuing in a romantic sense have wanted to court him mainly due to his influence with Kellen. When he has had carnal needs, he has used one of the Court Succubi or Incubi. That was until he met Addalicia, and now things are changing for him. Where that leads will be interesting to see in the future. Kellen's brother Karlen is his best friend and he has devoted a lot of time trying to find the woman that has been haunting Karlen's dreams for the last 300 years.
Karlen - Kellen's youngest brother has had only one woman he wants, and he's been unable to find her for the last 300 years. He knows she's real, but he cannot find what realm she is in and he believes she is sliding through time. It seems like whenever he figures out where Sophia is, he's one step behind wherever she's off to next. As much as she claims to want to be with him in her dreams, he is confused by their missed times. With Grae's help, he hopes to one day track her down.
I have over 60 characters in the whole series, but these are the characters that are at the center of the Web Of Lives that make up The Imperium Chronicles.

(Ed: his favorite bowler hat) It's been at my side... I mean on my head, for years! John: This time the Old Top Hat can't outwit me!
Tumblr media
At the time I was still a poor millionaire... John: The contract with Duckyota'll be mine!
And in the end I prevailed, and with the earnings obtained with the new company I reached my first billion!
Rockerduck e la bombetta prediletta (2022)
So what do we learn from here?
1- It was indeed John who built the empire he runs, since at the beginning he was still a "poor millionaire" like his father and now he's an arch mega billionaire and the second richest duck. Rockerduck Industries giant empire it's all his work!!!
2- Lusky's always been at his side from the very beginning ❤️
3- That bowler hat the story revolves around and which John calls his "prediletta" (his favorite) it's the same hat he wears in "Boat Buster"!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3- Kudos to Valerio Held for giving young John Barks' design! ❤️❤️
4- I would like to count another victory for John, but as the story progresses we find out that isn't the case :'( I think that's a missed opportunity: they could have used John's true victory in Boat Buster instead of the purchase of Duckyota... pity...

Lichbane
Tumblr media
The only thing that could be said was they were in a bad situation and things had gotten worse as the bone-storm began, forcing Amelia to attempt to take cover behind the stone railing of the staircase present in the crypts they were all within. It was a large party tasked with retrieving an artifact that could turn the tide of the whole campaign against the Scourge; if they could get a hold of it, there was hope in sight but alas. That wasn’t meant to be as the newly made Lich possessed it or one of his cohorts ran off with it, she was unsure. There was just so much chaos happening, Amy couldn’t make heads or tails of anything. One thing began to become certain, she could smell a lot of blood in the room. Many were getting hurt and there was nothing she could do, or she would be worse off most likely. She wasn’t good to anyone dead, especially as a medic. But her curse amplified her senses quite a bit and the witch could tell her partner had been maimed. The smell of his blood reached her nostrils and all she could feel was panic, she had to reach him.
As the fight with the evil continued and many heroes were doing their best to stay on their feet, eventually Amelia was able to give healing energies where possible and reach the man she had been worried about; Edward. He could take care of himself, she knew, but the man was hurt too. There was no telling how long any of them were able to keep going with the abuse that the Lich was able to dish out. Another wave of putrid air or maybe the energy in the room was the last straw, it had caused the gentleman next to her to fall off the staircase to the hard stone below. Not a large fall but Amy hadn’t been able to catch him in time. “Edward!” Her voice didn’t carry much over all the sounds of battle.
Everyone was going down and death was imminent for all of them, this much she knew. There was so much healing energy going into the villain’s phylactery, and some of the others were doing their best to destroy the physical form in order to give themselves more time but people were falling to the ground when they could no longer go on. There was only so much abuse that could be taken. It was going to turn into a last ditch effort but Amy prayed as hard as she could while feeling the change overtake her, hoping Elune or anyone would hear her. In seconds she launched herself over that same stone stairwell railing, landing near to the fight at hand as her claws bounce slightly off the ground from the impact. A large looming figure of white fur, she was in her Worgen form in order to give her enough strength to do what she planned. Immediately a roar of defiance accompanied with a wall of astral energy and nature magics came from the harvest witch, all of that unbridled fury channeled into the Lich and its vessel. There were two others as well that did the same thing, but in their own way. Then everything went black.
This was all that Amelia could recall when she helped kill the newly born Lich in those crypts, the memory itself still brought back a sense of dread even as she was turning over the golden laurel wreath of oak leaves in her hands. It had been called a civic crown, awarded to those that served the duchy of Summerfast bravely from the Scourge campaign three years ago. It was in the middle of house cleaning that she thought to bring it out, and reflect. In all honesty she did what she thought was best, even if it meant dying underground with her comrades and the man she loved. A soft smile tugged at her lips while thinking back on the celebration that was had when the duchy’s heroes returned from Hearthglen, there had been so much cheering. So many grateful souls throwing flower petals in the streets. It had been such a wonderful day and evening, even if she did call it early just as he had. All of the praise and awards made things feel worthwhile.
Edward Stede had received the same awards and praise, she thought he deserved it more than she did but in her head she digressed. They had all fought bravely and made it back alive, in the end that was what mattered. The sound of the front door opening and closing is what broke her away from her short time of reminiscing, and quickly she got up from the floor and went to put that crown back into the cedar chest at the foot of their bed. Back to house chores, and such. The three years certainly did fly by.
