#cuz I'm both an artist and a writer
Text
It's so fucking funny how a lot of authors, especially indie authors, just rant and rave about how unfair their industries are and how they're being exploited and not appreciated ... All while using other people's photos for their own book promos (books they sell) and making extensive use of AI-generated images and "art" stolen from actual artists.
But hey, anything to save a buck, right 🙄
When novel-generating AI gets sophisticated enough I will be plugging y'all's free excerpts into them and then just reading that, instead. And you won't be able to complain about piracy because it technically won't be stealing :) I generated that myself using stuff you made available to me by posting <3

Hey, I'm not here to say ai art isn't art. The whole "you need to be paid for it to be real art!" is goofy. But if I put a prompt into the tool and it makes something based on that prompt then I didn't make it. I didn't put the effort in, and in that sense it isn't mine. What I'm more upset about than whether or not it has soul or whatever (that's up for debate for a lot of human-made art too) is the taking of credit for something you simply did not do. I'm not sure if I've seen you talk about this particular thing cuz there's a lotta silly asks getting dunked on, but I'm curious abt this one.
you can absolutely make art without being the one physically producing it, by "telling someone what to do". directors are artists. choreographers are artists. graphic novel writers who write panel descriptions for artists are artists and indisputably have some share of the authorship of the resulting panels. the same goes for mangakas with apprentices, or for that matter renaissance masters with apprentices, and for art directors. removing the other people involved in such an arrangement gives you a greater share of authorship, not a lesser one.
& the idea that art requires "effort" is reactionary. it's a protestant-work-ethic-esque valorisation of effort for its own sake. art can be easy. many many technological innovations have created easier ways to do things -- did you know that graphic designers used to have to manually place every written character and image on a spread through a time-consuming and arduous process called paste-up? now the exact same work can be done in minutes with a few clicks because of digital typefaces. digital art also saw the exact same arguments being made against it fifteen odd years ago -- 'digital artists have stabilizers and shape tools and layers and filters and brushes and an undo button, they're not real artists because they're not putting in the effort'.
i think it's interesting how anti AI art crusaders have this curious contradiction in their arguments -- they (correctly) identify that a computer program has no agency, intentionality, or creativity, but when a human and a computer both contribute to a finished product they ascribe the computer full authorship. it just doesn't add up! mi-24 attack helicopter blushing demurely

Svt as specific tropes cuz I am in a writer's block
a/n: these are purely personal opinions/ imagines. not proofread!
Scoups: enemies to lovers (I'm talking dagger to the throat enemies to "who hurt you" pipeline. scoups and his competitive petty ass would be perfect with an equally competitive and hot-headed oc. I'm talking sizzling chemistry, extreme frustration to tooth-rotting fluff)
Jeonghan: Frenemies to angst to friends to lovers (light-hearted frenemies until one day Jeonghan takes the joke a little too far which leads to angst and years of no-contact. A chance encounter during lowest times leading to a soft adult friendship evolving to a soft and chaotic lovers pipeline)
Joshua: strangers to comfort person to lover (he gives me a feel-good coming of age feels so I'll take a storyline with the heartbroken or worn down oc finding comfort in Shua who could be a stranger or a kind colleague. a full "we helped heal each other" and then moving away due to circumstances only to realise that you need your comfort person)
Jun: holiday romance (nana tour Jun vibes. two strangers in a random city who decide to spend a week having the utmost fun and never meet again... but of course fate brings them together and the angst of reality to eventually finding a balance in the paradise of their holiday whirlwind and reality... it's giving romcom)
Woozi: Best Friends pining for decades (A very soulmate-ish friendship. Woozi and oc are so extremely obvious about their feelings but are oblivious to the reciprocation- it's also obvious to everyone around them. The angst of "what-ifs", and ofcourse songs written abt the feelings, to angry confessions and happy endings. this one includes a lotttt of angst and dozens of bangers mixed with peak domestic behaviour and two ppl so attuned to each other like old married couples)
Hoshi: Accidental dance partners Hoshi and oc (might sound basic but I'm a dancer and it's a very indulgent trope... so yeah! I'm thinking college team dancers in competing teams are forced to pair up for a competition. Out-of-the-world chemistry- can't keep eyes and hands off each other, late night talks, "non-date" date nights and ofc anger issues(performers, duh!). Lots of parties, angst and eventually confessing. She falls first but he falls harder)
Wonwoo: second-chance romance (I think Wonwoo, I think angst(sorry wonu) and second chance. oc and wonu having whirlwind honeymoon phase until oc pushes him away. lots and lots of angst- confused wonu not knowing how to help oc. both of them miserable without the other... until Wonwoo can't take it anymore and makes oc lean on him for support. very gray and grounded in reality romance)
Dokyeom: Small-town romance (sunshine Lee Seokmin as a charming small-town business owner helping big-city-return troubled oc deal with life and falling in love? sign me up for the hallmark movie! Seokmin and his golden best boy smile healing hearts as always)
Mingyu: Arranged Marriage Trope (once again, a very self-indulgent imagination...Oc who doesn't believe in love after a heartbreak, Mingyu who accepted his destiny and never loved anyone. A very practical arranged marriage with both consenting parties. An agreement to stay "partners" and "friends" because they "Can't force feelings". Domestic life leads them to break every rule- written and unwritten... angst rising due to pasts and insecurity... oc's fear of abandonment, Mingyu's fear of attachment... a minor separation and major realisation... their very own happy ending at last! Mingyu Best Husband Agenda forever)
Minghao: Rival Artists with secret identities dating each other (Minghao dates the pretty stranger on a dating app, agree to keep things casual but lo behold they are falling fast and hard... all is well except both have secret identities as artists who are rivals. they love each other but hate the other's alter-ego... ofc this leads to miscommunication and angst, lost ways and breakups. but this is my imagination so they end up together after everything and conquer the art world)
Seungkwan: Celebrity Fake dating trope (Seungkwan would eat that shit up! Two A-list celebs: Seungkwan and oc, who appear together in a show and fans go crazy for their chemistry but they don't pay head. oc gets caught in a false accusation, needs a distraction- agencies make oc and Seungkwan fake date... on-camera they r perfect but off-cam it's all awkward... planned appearances to becoming friends, trauma bonding... sexual tension rises, life gets complicated, lots of angst later they end up dating happily)
Vernon: Falling without meeting each other (two online friends, fake names but authentic friendship across continents fall for each other without ever meeting other. against all odds they end up seeing each other eventually and staying together... this gives me old cinema vibes but in modern times, Vernon is so Vernon that only he'd be fitting)
Dino: High school fake dating (imagine Dino as Peter Kavinsky from To All The Boys I've Loved Before... a popular softie boy agreeing to fake date the silent girl, the only twist is Dino has been in love with her since middle school, he fell first and harder- a full simp! Very romcom coded angst and happy endings ofc- i just know Dino will make a perfect romcom male lead)

A/N: And I'm gonna elaborate on some of these so bear with me 💀
Liked by everyone but me: DON'T COME FOR ME BUGGY NATION. I DON'T HATE HIM. I just don't get the hype. I think he's funny and I really liked him during Impel down but other than that, he's kinda just another character to me.
Didn't like at first: I honestly couldn't even tell you why 😭💀 She just made me mad especially during Loguetown. I like her now tho, especially Alabasta/Post-time-skip Tashigi (👍ㆁωㆁ)👍*.✧
Like the design, dislike the character: I didn't really dislike Ms. Valentine and Mr. 5, but I had to choose them because I don't think there really is a person who I dislike for both their character and their design.
Like the character, dislike the design: this is kinda the opposite of the last one. At face value I HATE Doflamingo, however I would fucking stupid to not be able to appreciate his character for that reason. He does such a good job at making me hate him that I kinda respect it 💀. Anyway tho whoever told him that loafers and skin-tight capris looked good together needs to be brought to justice. Cuz damn bro take that shit off PLEASE 😭
Fav ship: I don't really have one ngl, but if I had to choose...no one can deny that Frobin are the cutest fucking thing (ᗒᗩᗕ) I also don't technically ship Zosan either, but TRUST I see the vision (+ all the Zosan artists/writers out there are so damn talented that I can't help but appreciate/consume their works I'm gonna be honest lmao).
Would never befriend irl: I love Luffy to death, I swear I do, but that mf would annoy the ever-loving FUCK out of me irl. If I ever saw him in real life one of us would be dying immediately. I just think our personalities would clash so bad. In terms of morals, beliefs, outlooks on life, and opinions about dreams/passiona we'd get along great; otherwise, he is the most oblivious, impervious, blunt, obnoxious, loud, unhygienic, and extroverted person to exist, and I am the most sensitive, hypervigilant, quiet, timid, emotional, cautious, people-pleasing, and introverted person alive. He would get angry because he couldn't understand why I am so wary and anxious all the time, and I wouldn't understand why he isn't more careful or strategic and throws himself at death 24/7. That boy would be giving me panic/anxiety attacks left and right. Not to mention he would intimidate the fuck outta me, and I think that feeling is partially related to his conqueror's haki. Luffy's sheer confidence and trust in himself and his abilities, his drive and determination to chase his dreams, his fearlessness of life and death are all things I strive for and his does these things so effortlessly, that I think I would feel insecure and just-very small in comparison to him ngl

I want to see both an animated season 8+ of Voyager, but then cross it with DS9, and make it a whole ass adventure with all our blorbos together. AND anime reboots of them both. Cuz I'm a greedy bean.
I want to see the stuff we couldn't have in the 90's. I want the queer rep they skirted despite and because of Berman & Braga, the neurodivergent and disability acceptance rep level raised. I want it to go dark, scary and psychological with SO many Janeway being a badass moments, and some really forked up alien battle/attack shiz.
Get fanfic writers in on this. Get fandom animators in on it. Like...I've got at least 6 epic story writers for Voyager and at least 10 highly skilled artist/animation Ninja's just on this hellsite alone.
I would absolutely pay out the butt for anime (say cartoon and it ends up looking like Scooby-Doo) Janeway & Sisko unhinged battle tactics, less repressed interaction between ppl... alternate timeline it, so we can have Jadzia back. Worf and B'Lanna arguing Klingon stuff. Odo being impressed with Tuvok and vice versa. Quark hitting on ADMIRAL Janeway reeeeaaally blatantly, and everyone just FREEZES up until she laughs, says something scathing, and joins Jadzia in the 'we like him and messing with him' club. They teach her Tongo. She hustles people at pool. Yup. Quark is in love lol. Garrak makes everyone uncomfortable, because of course he does. Bashir and the Doctor ego battle in fascination of each other's enhancedness.... uuuuuuugh
Pretty sure I could just go on, and on, and on...
Lmao also how I ACCIDENTALLY wrote out an 1800 word note for an outline of a Voyager/Firefly fic, that I will legitimately never write out fully (not a writer, but I have the ideas lol)
I'll be extraordinarily embarrassed to post it, but if anyone would want to flesh it out into a story. I would absolutely be ecstatic to share what I have written out and help in any way.

I wanna start by saying that I do not mean to shame or talk down to anybody when making this kind of post.
Tumblr media
But we gotta talk about writing formats and stuff. Now, I'm not gonna act like I'm some sort of super, in-depth reader who just LOVES to read and knows everything, I don't, in fact, I kinda hate reading but I gotta do it to learn how to write better which is what I enjoy doing. I love writing, that's what I like to do, the reading part is what bores me.
But even tho I dislike reading that doesn't mean I'm gonna ignore the structure and formats cuz I don't like reading and don't wanna learn.
Lately, I noticed there are a lot of fic writers that take some questionable takes when it comes to writing and lemme start by saying that while I believe we all have different writing styles, a style is different from the basic structure.
I'm talking about the recent influx of fics in ao3 that are wall posts, have no dialogue division, or smash two characters talking into the same paragraph.
I know tiktok LOVES to lie to y'all for the sake of clout and attention (I have seen people making very STUPID takes when it comes to writing there) but I promise you that nobody is gonna kill you for having a good writing structure that follows the norm cuz it is the norm for a reason.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here are two examples of my own writing (this is all unbeta/unfixed) on the left side is the regular structure you'll follow when writing a regular novel, and on the right is what I use when writing fanfiction.
Both are GOOD for their given purpose.
Dialogue between characters is separated so you understand it is another character talking and if there is a description between the dialogue it is still the same character talking after.
The paragraphs are separated and it is clear when a new action is happening and another one ends. It makes it easy for readers to follow what is happening.
I cannot believe I have to say this but JUST USE THE WORD SAID. He said, she said, they said, that bitch said. If you just want to clarify who is talking, just use said. If you have a long dialogue between characters and wanna make sure the reader is still following along, then just throw in the word said here and there and add a small action. Contrary to what dumbasses say on the internet, using the word said is there to GUIDE THE READER INTO KNOWING WHO IS TALKING. That's the purpose it has, if it is a dialogue between two characters then it is easier and you don't have to spam it but please, sometimes simplicity goes a long way.
Separate your dialogue between characters
Tell your reader who is talking.
Separate your paragraphs
And for the love of god, please, don't take writing advice from tiktok kids that only consume fanfiction. Instead, read novels and books, yeah it blows if you hate reading and English isn't your first language (like me) but that's how you are gonna get better at it. I'm not saying fanfiction isn't at the same level as novels/books but for the most part, books/novels are constructed and formatted in a way that you can learn something from them and apply it to your writing.
Think of it as a reference, just like artists use references to get better at drawing, your reference is other books that'll teach you and help you do better.

I took some time and actually watched Hazbin Hotel... I watched the pilot 6(?) years ago, and seeing the hellfire commentary from Twitter made me reluctant (rightfully so I guess).
But I say it was pretty alright. I feel like I have some complaints. I'm not a diehard fan at all, nor do I see myself in the fan base, but I feel like I can add my own input, I guess. These are my opinions and personal reasons, please be nice.
Spoilers/commentary beneath the cut (16+)
For starters, I think the concept is good, I like some of the designs for the characters, especially since they improved from the pilot.
I think I have at least 3-4 favorite characters, ranking them from my most fave:
Lucifer, Alastor, Vox, and Nifty.
... I didn't like anyone else. I'll probably explain that.
The only reason why I liked these four was mostly cuz they had some funny bits to them. I told my friend that Lucifer reminds me of Hunter from TOH??? And I said "Maybe it's cuz their both blonde and depressed." Lucifer just has that appeal for me. Vox didn't have much screentime, but I like his niche design and voice. Alastor is also cool. Nifty is just a cute gremlin that I fuck with honestly. Good for her. Everyone else I either didn't care much for or straight up didn't like...
Charlie annoyed me a lot, I know she's the MC, but I didn't like her. I get that she's supposed to be good, but her behavior in some scenes bothered me. Like in Ep4, I understand she was coming from a good place, but I couldn't help but feel agitated. I can't explain it. She has a savior complex which is her flaw, and maybe I just don't exactly understand it.
Of course, she's not the worst character (looks at Valentino and Adam), but she could improve. There were a few characters that I feel should've been written better, but the pacing made it hard.
I feel like the pacing was something I didn't like, but I can't blame it since it only has 8 episodes. The writer in me deflated seeing how fast things moved along, but I get why they sped it up towards the end. I wanna ramble about how the show could have gone if it had 24 episodes- but that feels like another post. Also, another thing that irked me were characters word vomiting.
Again if this show had more time to explore each individual character, it wouldn't have happened. I thought ep 4 with Angel Dust pouring his heart had good intentions to tell the audience that he's fucked up, it could've been built up more (if there were more episodes) until he finally blew up, similar with Husk. It's different because it's an animation, but you can still show and not tell visually about someone struggling. That's just me.
The excessive swearing isn't funny, I didn't find myself laughing that much except for Ep 8: Adam telling Lute to chill the fuck out, Alastor's mic breaking, and Lucifer saying "I'm gonna fuck you!" are the only bits I found funny. I've laughed at dumber things (my sense of humor is garbage, I'll laugh at a waffle falling over), but I didn't find most of the jokes funny.
I knew it was a musical, and I love musicals, but there weren't many songs I vibed with. Maybe a few, but not a lot. I'm a music person, and the songs just didn't feel right? Like the lyrics either felt awkward or general direction of the song didn't feel cohesive. I think I only like 4 songs in total.
The VAs were great, I recognized a lot of them, and I enjoyed their performances. They all fit their characters.
The animation was good for what was originally an indie project, and I hope the animators/artists were properly compensated. I know there was a lot of shit going on about Vivi allegedly not paying them but regardless, they did amazing.
I'm gonna be serious and say I feel like I didn't want to give HH a chance because I just didn't exactly care about it. My friends watched it. I saw Twitter's scolding opinions and hottakes on it, and I didn't want to hate watch it. But I was still curious. While I wasn't laughing through most of it, I think it's good. There's a lot that I'm trying not to say or get into because that would derail my commentary and make it about other discussions I'm not fully knowledgeable about...
I sailed the seven seas to watch this show, and I say it was sort of worth it. Again, I'm not a crazy fan, but anyone that likes it, good for you.

Omg I recently found your Miguel and Joel fics and your writing is so good!! I have to ask, as an aspiring fic writer, do you have any tips on how to write/improve fanfic or find your writing own style? I have so many docs files worth of half-finished fics (since I suffer from not-good-enough syndrome), and I try to learn as much as can from those I admire. If this ends up being answered, thank you so much!!
hey! thank you for the ask and it's taken me a while to answer cuz I had to think long and hard to give you something useful lmfao... and it means a lot that people enjoy my writing enough to even ask me for advice!! thank you anon, and I hope this helps :D
a/n: I'm not an expert, not even a little bit, but I like writing on here and I'm writing a book! so those are my (lack of) credentials - just a heads up
gonna split my advice into parts: before writing, during, and after; and also give some tips on writer's block / "not-good-enough-syndrome" (very very valid, btw)

Before writing
- Planning is not always necessary but I find it helps! it doesn't even have to be a really detailed one, like mapping out every story beat - but writing rough notes can help you guide it along better. And if you're not actively planning, thinking about the fic in more detail can act as a plan.
- Unironically, all my fics start off as vivid daydreams, which I then jot down notes, and start writing. If you think of your plan as guidelines rather than something rigid, it can help with flow. I.e. if when you start writing you're finding it hard to hit a certain beat, there's no need to force it in that direction.
- It can help to emulate the writing styles of writer's you like - like an artist study but with fics/literature you like. Take a couple of fics you really really like and jot down what you enjoy about it, and specificity is key. What about their language do you enjoy? Is it their use of metaphors, is it the way they describe actions, or the little character details they include? It can help to have this list on hand when you actually start writing.
- Similarly, you can try little writing exercises to get you thinking about that kind of thing. It think I saw this in a youtube vid, but a thing I've done in the past is take a scene from a movie or book and try to emulate in one of two ways, or both: first, as best you can remember, as close to the style of the original work as possible. And second, in your own words, trying to hit certain plot beats as best you can, leaving the rest up to you. For example, I always did it with the opening of the hunger game's first chapter, because it was something really distinctive to me and a property I enjoy. The important thing here is to not have the reference in front of you. The aim isn't to copy exactly, but to imitate / get your brain thinking about the way in which the author / filmmaker / etc portrays the story.

Whilst writing
There is a lot of very valid general writing advice in terms of language and actually writing, so I'll list some general ones below, (idk if this was quite your question tho):
- vary sentence length and structure. it adds rhythm and texture to your writing. but also be wary and try to align it to the context: i.e. a more fast-paced action scene would benefit from short, staccato sentences, but a scene describing characters falling in love (hazy, romantic, etc) might be better with longer, multi-claused sentences to drag out pace.
- focus less on stuffing in adjectives (i am very guilty of this, icl) but rely on the specificity of your nouns to portray information I.e. instead of 'spindly, thin and wire-framed glasses' using 'spectacles' is both more efficient and sounds a bit nicer.
- depends on the writer, but try to work backwards from images and motifs for characters, places, etc rather than the other way round. I.e. if your character is as fierce as a lion, instead of stating that as a simple simile, imply the metaphor with description: "her flowing mane (note specificity of noun, mane, not hair) cascades around her maw - spit-slick and eyes wild. Carnal, she was a killer; and God help those caught between her claws." (<< this is corny asf, lmfao, my bad. but u get the gist), and then you can pepper your text with callbacks to the motif - like little easter eggs for your reader.
- similar to above, adverbs often break up the flow of text, so choose the verbs carefully. Instead of "Hurriedly, he ran" even more info can be given with "tumbled" or "stuttered" etc etc
- break up dialogue with action rather than the usual alternatives for "said" .
- also also, "said" and other simple words are not bad to use at all!! sometimes they work better in the text than every dialogue word being "whispered" or "crooned" or whatever. you can repeat words without reaching for a thesaurus every time, cuz often its alternatives are more jarring and noticeable to read.
- honestly, above all the 'feel' of the text trumps everything else, or at least it does for me. There is no point using a super complex metaphor if it comes out of nowhere, or breaks up the tension of a scene. These aren't hard rules, and if it serves your story more to 'break' them, then you absolutely should! Definitely read aloud where you can (ik it's a little embarassing with fics, sometimes). In terms of my specific style, I'm a big fan of poetry so i like to pay careful attention to the way words and sentences sound! I love using fricatives or plosives or words that sound the way they feel (if that makes any sense), sentences that have rhythm due to placement of commas and semicolons - I think it makes for a more enjoyable read.
- don't be afraid to jump around when writing. Often, the issue is with starting out, so chop and change where necessary and jump around the fic. If there's a specific scene you're really excited about writing, write that first! and then once you're in more of a flow, the rest should be a bit easier.
- I can't really help with grammar cuz I know my grammar fucking sucks; there's probably an editor out there that has a heart attack everytime I overuse a semi-colon lmfao.

After writing
- For me, editing is the most important part of writing. Due to the way I write it's where a fic can really be elevated or fucked. A lot of the stuff I write initially is gibberish, and then is improved massively in the first edit.
- so with that, don't be afraid to shift things around: sentences, words, whole passages if need be. If you're writing in a word processor, take advantage of it's features. if it helps, make a copy of your fic and really 'fuck' it up: move shit around, get rid of wonky words, etc. be ruthless lmfao - cuz it's only the copy. if you tend to over describe (like me), I promise you that backspace button is your best friend.
- depends on how long it is, but take it in chunks (this is with both editing and writing) focus on the chunks and then expand out into the whole.
- it's important to be reflective. if you get through the process, or hit a slump and you're unsatisfied; be specific about why. where exactly did it stop working for you? is it the way you've described a scene? does it feel slow? too fast? do your characters feel flat? no stakes? be specific, and if you can, highlight where it went wrong. the comment feature on docs is my favourite to use because of this reason
- also, please remember to give yourself your flowers! where it works, no matter how small, make sure to highlight it and say, "I really like this bit, because of xyz". the 'because' is important, as it helps you do this again in later fics.

writer's block / not-good-enough-syndrome
- first off, remember that 9 times out of ten, you are your own worst critic. I guarantee that the things you don't like about your writing, someone will read and very much enjoy it! humans aren't great at being objective, so give yourself some grace and leeway to learn and improve.
- second, best way to overcome this is exposure therapy, imo. Tumblr is a great place for this: you can make a side blog and dump all the fics you think are a bit shit on there. It may gain some traction, it may not; but the most important part is that you've put yourself out there, and nothing exploded. and because there are no stakes, you can get rid of the blog as you see fit, with little to no consequences, and never have to think about it again.
- if you do end up posting, please don't get bogged down by the metrics! it can suck when something you've worked really hard on doesn't do very well. the great thing about fanfic, is that it's a really easy way to improve quickly. if you like something enough to want to write fanfic - you're more likely to write. More writing = more improvement, and you get to enjoy fucking around with the canon or a self insert or writing smut or whatever.

in terms of overcoming writer's block / having lots of half finished fics you can approach it a couple of ways:
- you can brute force finish a fic, no matter how shitty you think it is, and try to salvage what you can in the edit.
- lower the stakes! if you can't write a thousand words, leave it at 500! often when you move the goalposts closer, there's less of a mental block, and you end up bringing it to it's natural conclusion anyway.
- if you've got multiple unfinished fics, frankenstein that bitch lmfao. cut and paste and stick the best bits together. You like that one interaction? cool, stick it onto a bit from another fic. You've come up with a great piece of dialogue? great, stick it in the middle of that fic. Because you're not necessarily coming up with new content, just repurposing old bits and bobs, often you find you're writing the inbetween-y bits anyways and you've got a full fic.
- take a break! leave stuff unfinished, sleep on it; come back in a day, a week, a month. fresh eyes can make all the difference when you've been staring at it too long.

finding your writing style:
- read, read, read, read. other fics, books, even consuming media generally to find a voice. You can be reflective and specific, like I mentioned in the other points to help yourself along, but expanding your horizons will do wonders for your writing.
- e.g. my favourite book is Lolita and I'm in loooove with the writing style: it's a beautiful balance of poetic with a strong narrative voice. I love poetry (Ocean Vuong you will always be famous!), and gorgeous, existential films filled to the brim with subtext (Blade Runner 2049, Howl's moving castle, Moonlight, etc). You probably can't notice that explicitly in my writing but it does show up: I love wistful rambling, heavy imagery, strong thematic motifs... all things I've connected with in other media, and emulated in my writing.
Your "voice" comes later, I think - something that happens without you actively looking for it. Who you are, your experiences, your connections with other people: it's pretty hard to keep that out of your writing. So don't stress! The page is like a block of wood; it scratches, it dents, it erodes - chips away into something new, entirely. Your writing remembers, and it doesn't stop being yours when you walk away from it.
Hope this wasn't pretentious or annoying or anything! best of luck anon and feel free to dm me cuz I'd love to read whatever you come up with (no pressure, ofc).
If anyone has any other writing tips I will do my best to reblog them, thanks <33

Have you ever felt insecure with work (ex. feeling inferior to others and that you and your work aren't good enough for anyone to enjoy, worrying about your stuff being a failure, etc) and if so, how do you deal with them?
I ask since I've been dealing with some insecurities with my art & writing and worrying that the stuff, I have planned to share wouldn't be good enough for anyone to enjoy, especially with this problem of myself comparing my work to others (especially ones I take inspiration from), and I feel these are problems I definitely need to work on if I wish to succeed. So, I thought maybe I'd ask you for some advice on dealing with insecurities about your work. Apologizes if this ask got a little too vent-y and personal.
Tumblr media
No, thats okay anon. Tbh, i definitely felt this some or a lot of the time whenever I'm creating a writing piece. Theirs this part of my head where it questions my writing techniques, that it wont be good, that it will come off as pretentious and how people consider my books to be cringe or bad even in an artistic standpoint (the main thing I care for because I know im not the best technical wise) and they dont ever get finished both because of the time and that writers block for that story just kept coming. For the hb series, I'm a bit more confident because its just rewriting a show with flaws that i wanted to fix in some way, though i still feel of some insecurity like if its too chronically online or too childish for my age (almost going to be a senior next year, still in hs) but it does have an audience with people who enjoy them so i keep continuing. I'd say im mostly confident with my revision of books that are gross (e.g, those dark 'romances' of psuedo incest themes) where i remove it and replace it with familial themes instead, books like colleen hoover because her romances and the way she writes about them are just not good and i think you can spin so much of her stuff into decent works without the toxic romance/smut (cuz ngl, it is more like smut than a romance book) or works like velma where its just bottom of the barrel shit that you can easily make it a more enjoyable experience in your reworks. You could compare your books to poorly written ones and that may give you a bit of confidence in your works because well, 'at least its not as bad as _'. Or, something that i'm planning to focus on more, instead of worrying too much of how its written, its to get it done as much as possible. If writers block ever comes in, take a break, look at your work, maybe google how to get out of it or try to see how you can get out of it with an extra sentence. Another thing is to go to the people you can trust with criticism of how to improve your work like friends where they can give you the proper criticism you need for improvement before posting them online or somewhere book related. It's all i have since im still experiencing these things and how im currently busy with school assessments but i hope they at least help in some way.

Anyone else feel like the separation of artist and writer interacting with each other has harmed both terribly in the industry? With hacky executives furthering the divide?
Writers devoid of arts and interaction with the world, so they get stuck on a recycling of tropes and lack of emotion, or being too wordy and blunt of what a char says/does. It feels unnatural and forced, too planned and predetermined regardless how awful the pacing is. The lack of consideration for visuals impacts development for artists
And then Artists being so divorced from story telling, that the characters they design and make end up too ungrounded and quirky. They too fall prey to expression crutches and tropes, and lose identity among themselves entirely cuz "aesthetic". Nor realize when something is overexaggerated or just straight up noise. A writer's message may be clouded completely due to it
For ref of extremes, we have for writers a few decently written adult animated shows...look like shit. And the lack of decent animation actually limited stories on what characters can do. Mass appeal is lost. A Troll in Central Park meanwhile, beautifully animated and good art design...is a pretty shit and boring movie. You'll be roped into the aesthetic, but then grow bored extremely fast due to vapid interactions and events
I feel like both can get corrupted due to fame/ego, especially if they're commissioned for an existing franchise. Neither want to do deep research, and just do immediate bias or aesthetic appeal. Even fans of said franchises of either category can disastrously have the ego/bias
The lack of collaboration and attempt of minimal understanding of either field has led to a lot of crappy and even pretentious media lately
For good examples that show deeper understanding of char writing and design, look at this from Rugrats S1
Tumblr media
It is an established guide both writers and artists have to follow. In the movie, the very first instance of malice Tommy has is seen, and treated as a huge deal. He's treated as a well defined character for developers, not a random ragdoll to then be smashed and dressed up in any silly way for a quick laugh
I feel like response to overly strict execs and nostalgia fatigue has led to both artist and writer to forge a path out away from each other in retaliation. Leading both to ironically, disrespect the character as mere pawns for whatever. Meme culture and general fatigue at society also has in a way worn down taking anything seriously, leading to both to do random shit. Which to be fair, is fine for stress relief (Rugrats infamously had storyboard stress pics leaked, and writers can be crass in personal memos). But in the work meant to be presented, this is very touchy
I feel both artists and writers see guidelines as a bad thing, when they themselves should know their own limits. I feel they both see each other's field as extraneous, instead of something vital in teamwork to the development of the work. Same with blaming only the exec when it's personal fault as well (though execs now are 100% divorced from reality in Hollywood)
I'm just tired. I feel all this did was lead to only liking something cuz of vibes, not anything legitimately grounded. And a bunch of copycats running wild with it, or getting overly engrossed in nostalgia.
That said, in terms of who it harms more, I feel art can be used as a way to mask poor writing...for a brief period. Good writing with bad art is harder to sell, even if it ages slightly better later.
For aspiring artists and writers, please. Learn of the processes of the other and the world, and learn to collaborate within constraints as opposed to working in defiance of constraints. And learn to accept criticism, even if it's impossible to please everyone

Introduction To My Blog! :]
{ Last Edited: 27/Apr/24 }
•→ Alright, I’ll go ahead and start with the basics. As you know, my name is “rosie yumi” but I have two names; either Navia or Rosie, I don't mind any of the two. My birthday is on April 27th. And here are my main OC.
(im making the ref soon enough, be patient okay dearie? 😘) •→ I'm a Saudi digital and traditional female artist and I’m a writer on AO3. I speak both English and Arabic, but more preferably English since barely anyone here speaks Arabic, I also like typing in Arabic cause it’s fun, I’m not fluent in it unfortunately, but I'm learning it, quite fast! •→ I really don't remember when I started taking an interest in Yandere Simulator but I think I have since 2017? 2016? I’ll try to list all of my favorite characters here, i might have new ones eventually. I like Megami, Kencho, Ichirou, Wife, Saisho (17) Ichiko, Fun girl, Kaga, Ayano, Ryoba, Jokichi, Ritsuko, Sonoko, The journalist, The headmaster (1989), Osoro, Sumire Saitozaki, Honami, and that’s it.
•→ Just to summarize what you are about to read, there are some things that I do NOT tolerate on my account, or just ask you not to do them here. And things you need to know about me.
• → Please Do Not Interact with this blog (Like, follow, Reblog, Etc.) if you:
•→ The type of individual who likes to spreads negativity. If you are spreading hate and insulting people on your account, Please, just block me.
•→ Writing disgusting “asks”; like “kys” and “you should hang yourself” And so many more repulsive remarks you can imagine. This is extremely prohibited here. I honestly don't even know how to do these people sleep at night after telling a innocent person to commit suicide just because they didn’t reach up to their high expectations.
•→ A Racist/Sexist/Harasser Or just in general a Rude person. I despise these types of people so much.
•→ Things that you shouldn't do on this blog.
•→ This blog is safe for work (SFW). Not safe for work (NSFW), is not allowed here.
•→ No LGBTQA+ asks. I'm sorry but I have to follow my religion.
•→ No personal asks like: “How old are you?” “what school are you in?” “Which country are you in?” I'm sorry, but I want to be private with my life. As I'm not comfortable sharing everything with people whom I never met before in real life.
•→ Things you HAVE to know about me. (Really important)
•→ i type bad for funzies cuz..¯\_(ツ)_/¯ funzies
•→ I don’t want to be near anyone who uses any offensive names/terms against anyone and seriously means it. And also someone who uses slurs against others. •→ You actually don't even need to like Yandere Simulator to be friends with me. Love it, hate it, uninterested in it. It really doesn't matter even though this blog is mainly a Yandere Simulator based. As I just want to be friends with people who are not so judgemental and apathetic. Just chill and understanding people who I desire to talk too. •→ I’m uh- pretty stiff to people I don't know that well, or interacting for the first time. I'm actually really ironic and obnoxious when it comes to people i know. (And the “people” i know on the internet is literally zero. I only know my friends in real life whom I talk to online.) I’ve been an outcast here for a while now until i worked up the courage to post something for the first time. So… like.. I'm really shy when it comes to opening up a bit. Cause I'm scared you'd find me bothersome and childish, so.. I hope you find me fun to talk too!! ᥫ᭡.
!——————————————————————↓↓↓↓———————————————————————! •→ That is all. I hope you find happiness in my blog. Perhaps someday we could become friends with one another! Enjoy Your Stay! જ⁀➴⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

wip tag
Rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous.  Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips.
tagged by @nuwildcat and @sunshinesanctuary <3
okay so, since I am both a fanartist and the occasional writer, I'll talk about both lmao
I might be an exception to the "artist with 10000 WIPs" rule cuz I never work with more than 3-4 WIPs and even that is extremely rare, when I'm working on zines or commissions lol. my rule is, if I start a drawing, I'll finish it, since my workflow is pretty fast and I don't like to spend more than an hour or two max on a single piece 🥲
for arts, I only have 2 WIPs currently, and both are called "untitled" since procreate has a gallery view and I don't need to see the names to know which file I'll work on, so I never name them lololol :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First is of my OCs, the other is of MileApo (very self indulgent, I know 🥹)
for fics, I have.... uh... 11???? I think???? 😭
going from oldest to newest :
prologue : mileapo
chap 1 : ra and aveda (a very ambitious man suang centric fic, with reincarnation, royalty, political conflict- I started last year even before we got the character names lol. the prologue : mileapo is the first part of this)
tinngun part 3 (continuation of the Uni AU tinngun)
push and pull (Geminifourth, fluff ???)
untitled (geminifourth / heartliming / behind the scenes)
a long way home (mileapo)
untitled (heartliming, new york AU, memory loss and time loop)
what color is desire, if not blue? (north/tinn, angst)
first snow, last love (will you stay?) (geminifourth, fluff and angst)
maybe this is how it's supposed to be (north/gun, AU, currently under work, so, a proper WIP :D)
eclipsed chapter 7 (tinngun, heartliming, northnight, Underground fighter AU, currently working!)
uhhh... I really don't know that many people to tag, but :
@theflowergirl @abstractelysium @athousandbyeol @khathastrophe @trilliastra @bevioletskies @ssuviss @alternatepen @littleragondin @solana-ceae
(only if you want to!!)

Should I start using Patreon for myself?
I had a thought the other day. Patreon is a great place to support artists and get previews of their work, so would it work for writers too? The idea of setting up my own and taking commissions for ficlets/prompts (and rewarding supporters too), as well as posting advance previews of new fics/updates, is eating up my brain, so I'm curious to see if this is something that's been done and if it would be worth it. And to the point where there would be enough interest (both fandom and financial) to put all the ideas I've already got into it.
Please add any thoughts in the comments or tags, cuz I'm honestly at a loss right now.

Welcome to Danni's Den!
You know, if anyone wants an office tour! 😄
Tumblr media
Is it a proper office? No. One makes do when one lives in an apartment and only has so much space. (Especially when one is sharing space with a fellow nerd!) Because Eddie and I don't use a dining room, we converted the dining area into my office! So if you see peaks of the kitchen/living room/entrance, that's why! It's not much, but it's all my own! 💛
Tumblr media
Eddie installed some hooks for where my mugs used to hang. I have better mug storage now, so hanging above the entrance I put this ornament I picked up while in New Orleans back in August 2022! Gay mermen? C'mon. I named them Henry and Sebastian btw.
Tumblr media
This is my non-HP witchy section. Mostly astrology books. A few miscellaneous witchcraft books on the bottom shelf. And my crystal collection on top!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mentioned "mug collection" right? I love them! 😍 Though it might be worth noting that I have other mugs in the kitchen cabinet. 👀 And a small holiday collection I bring out during the holidays. I don't have a problem, I swear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aaaand my cubes! My Sorting Hat. Some fandom and astrology themed candles (most from various Etsy shops.) Various HP figures. Cubes for storage (mostly notebooks and notecards and things.) I have quite the collection of tarot and oracle decks in one of the open cubes. A little chest full of decks, and a few more decks in specific deck boxes (cuz my chest is too full 🙈) I also have 2 bound fics, and a HP word search book (I looooove word searches!) Mostly the cube organizers are for various knick knacks and such.
Tumblr media
My specific HP shelf! For mostly books. I also have 2 owl plushies, 2 niffler plushies, 2 pygmy puff plushies, and a fwooper plushie. They all have names, yes.
Francine the Fwooper
Oist (white owl) (the tag said "owlette" and Eddie made a joke about naming her Oist...like "moist towelette" but "oist owlette." It stuck. Oops. She probably deserves a more dignified name but Oist made me giggle, so there we are.
Archibald (brown owl)
Nemo (black niffler)
Eva (gray niffler) (both Nemo and Eva are named after Nightwish songs, because I love Nightwish.)
Pippa (pink pygmy puff)
Puck (purple pygmy puff)
The cabinet attached to the shelf is storage. Things I don't want on display, or can't have on display right now. Miscellaneous knick-knacks from Etsy sellers or from our trip to Universal in 2017. All the HP foreign editions Eddie gifted me. Character wands (that aren't displayed) and the empty boxes for the wands I do have displayed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And THIS is where the magic happens, baby! My desk. An absurd amount of colored pens. All the books I'm most likely to consult while writing (poetry, symbolism, mythology, philosophy, etc.) My Snarry art on the wall!!!!!! 😍😍 (I need more frames so I can hang MORE SNARRY ART.) (A gal always needs more Snarry art, y'know?)
Then between my desk and the HP shelf I have PILLOWS because I'm too restless to stay in one place and position for too long. I also have a lap desk tucked away so I pull that out and hop into my pillows to keep writing! (My lil bee is named Beatrice, btw.) (Queen Bea! 🥰🥰)
This space seriously brings me so much joy, and so much inspiration. To have a space dedicated to writing, and my fandom, and my BOYS. Being able to have Snarry out and proud and all around me???? 🥺🥺 I'm all in my feelings. (Seriously, though, need MORE.) And not just a representation of my OTP, but of other creators who inspire me! The bound books being writers and bookbinders. My embroidery by onbeinganangel!! And some of the artists I love! A great reminder of all the talent in fandom and how much love and passion there is out there!!!! And I have pieces of it HERE WITH ME???? I am blown away and very in love.
I am very grateful to my partner. It was his idea to split areas so I'd have this one for myself (he has his own space now, too, for Magic the Gathering, Dungeons and Dragons, Brandon Sanderson, etc.) (Oh and his monstrous dice collection.) But I was lamenting how I was running out of room on my one little wall for Snarry art. My desk used to be on the little wall where my witchy shelf is. And it was Eddie's idea to make the whole room mine. And he and I worked hard not only rearranging to have our own areas, but decluttering and reorganizing the whole apartment! This man found the time and energy to make my life happier even when super busy and stressed from work. So in its way, this space also represents his love and thoughtfulness and dedication for me. Which makes it all the better! (And really, he had to do all of the heavy lifting, I am tragically weak.)

Introduction
Tumblr media
Me
You can call me Ted or Teddy and use he/him pronouns for me, and I'm seventeen :))
I love talking to people so feel free to dm me or send an ask anytime!! I would love some writer/reader mutuals ❤️❤️❤️
I like reading and listening to music and acting and watching films and looking at art and creating art and making things with my hands and analysing media and laughing and loving and living
My blog + writing
This is my general writing blog and I'm currently working on three projects that I'm calling Mosdale, Glacier, and The Apocalypse Thing (the names will be changed later...hopefully). I'm planning on making another post to introduce each project, and I'm sure I'll be talking about them loads on here lmao
I'll probably also complain a lot on here because at this point complaining is my love language
I love to use Greek mythology and Christian imagery in my writing, though I'm not actually religious myself (at least not in the traditional sense)
Almost all of my characters are queer in some way and I aim to provide other kinds of rep
Favourite...
Books/book series: the folk of the air trilogy, six of crows, iron widow, the lunar chronicles, red white and royal blue, and they both die at the end
Shows: elementary, arcane, our flag means death, the owl house, shadow and bone, stranger things, dead end, queen charlotte, and probably others that icr rn
Films/film series: httyd, nimona, spiderverse, venom, avatar, the grand budapest hotel, portrait of a lady on fire...
Webtoons (though I'm probably not up to date on any of these cuz I tend to wait a bit and then binge yk): solid state (literally the bestest every actually. I have screenshots on my wall. I'm in love), marionetta, riptide, dagger to my heart, and royale
Artists: Hozier, Lorde, Cosmo Sheldrake, Lana del Rey, Mitski, George Ezra, Lady Gaga, etc
Songs: we have it all by pim stones, beautiful crime by tamer, spiracle by flower face, ribs by lorde, glory and gore by lorde, figure you out by VOILÀ, partners in crime by FINNEAS, scrawny by the willows, and omg there's too many I'll leave it at that for now, you get the gist

Demon Slayer Swap AU Ideas
So I've been thinking a lot about a swap AU for Demon Slayer and I just want to write out my thoughts on here. I enjoy looking at other versions of this au and I just had my own thoughts/takes on it.
Disclaimer: Any similarities to other swap AUs story wise and visually(especially for the humans turned demon) are coincidental. I've only looked at fanart of the kizuki but as demon slayers and like one picture of a demon Shinobu and didn't go much further than that with other people's AUs cuz I wanted to come up with my own shit. I feel the need to say this cuz people on the internet like to harass people over artists and writers having similar ideas.
Also a lot of these aren't necessarily a direct swap. I'm writing these things down for myself mostly to lay shit out. If you disagree that's fine, if you're curious where this is going.. slay. stick around.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tanjiro and Nezuko swaps with Gyutaro and Daki(Ume)
Reasoning? They're relatively direct parallels I was also debating swapping these two with Sanemi and Genya but decided against it. Might do a version later on with them idk
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gyomei swaps with Douma
Reasoning? Religion/Cult. The only real difference I feel like there would be is that Gyomei actually believes the shit that he says.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yoriichi Swaps with Kokushibo(Michikatsu)
The reasoning here is pretty straight forward.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Muzan swaps with Kagaya
This one is also pretty straight forward
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Giyu swaps with Kyogai
Reasoning? They were both pretty much cast out(In Giyu's case it was really just socially cuz everyone canonically hated him) and I thought it'd be interesting to see them reversed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mitsuri swaps with Enmu
Reasoning? I feel like as a demon Mitsuri would have similar mannerisms to Enmu. Idk how to explain it
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obanai Swaps with the Hand Demon
Reasoning? Purely on the basis that I think No Neck bitch is salty as hell and Obanai would be a salty bitch too
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Muichiro and Yuichiro swap with Hantengu
Reasoning? I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel bro. I'm only putting this cuz I feel like their blood demon arts would work with each other kinda like the Hantengu clones where they merge but also get separated. I have a very specific Idea and it'll come out better when I start writing the story.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shinobu, Kanae, Kanao, Aoi and the butterfly girls swaps with The Spider Family
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rengoku swaps with Akaza
Reasoning? Both of their things is Strength
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tengen with Gyokko
Reasoning? Eccentricity. They're both flashy in their own respective ways and I feel like it'd be interesting to swap them
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Zenitsu with the Swamp Demon
Reasoning? They're both weird about women and girls imo
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Murata Stays the same
Reasoning? It's funny
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tamayo, Amane and Rei swap
Reasoning? Well Amane and Rei were the wives of their respective rivals but I also feel like Amane would rebel similarly to Tomayo along with her extensive medical knowledge. It'll make more sense when I actually start writing the damn thing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can't find any behavioral parallels for Sanemi, Genya, and Inosuke so imma just wing it for them lmfao
