My wife (ao3) has gone to war (is down) and I don't know if she'll ever return home again (the wonderful people at ao3 are working diligently to bring it back up ASAP). I don't know if I'll ever recover (I'll be fine) but I'm being very brave about it (I am NOT being brave).

Today we have a fandom anti being a literal monster. They're upset because an account on Twitter that reposts wacky tags from Ao3 called out someone for being pro-genocide. Specifically stating that this is 'weird' of them to do that. Like, way to tell the world you advocate for the murder of women, children, newborn babies and innocent civilians because you're an anti. The cognitive dissonance is insane with antis. They continue to prove that they're dangerous and violent people everyday.
The user's post in question.
The post they are responding to.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but as a creator -
I am fine with "the audience" -
downloading my fics
printing my fics
copy/pasting or screenshotting my fics
sharing your saved copy of my fics with anyone else who might want them in the unlikely but never impossible case that my fics are no longer available on ao3
making a book of my fic(s) and running your fingers across the pages while lovingly whispering my precioussss
doing these things with anything I create for fandom, such as meta, headcanons, au nonsense like 'texts from the brodinsons,' etc
I am not fine with "the audience"
doing any of the above with the purpose/intent of plagiarizing my work or passing it off as their own in any capacity
feeding my work into ai for any reason whatsoever
Save the fandom things. Preserve the fandom things. Respect the fandom things.
Enjoy the fandom things.

Do you ever remember an unfinished and abandoned fic from years ago which touched you so deeply that it still sometimes resurfaces and lingers in your mind?
And you're just like, dear unknown author, i hope you are doing well, wherever you are. It wasn't finished but i loved it, thank you for your words.

Constantine & the King
First time Constantine meets the Ghost King, he's expecting problems. In his line of work, when all the shadows in the room seem to be pulled toward a point in the room. Creating a dark portal that suddenly glowed a startling green, it's more than concerning.
However, Constantine was thrown off by the young man that stepped out of the portal. Young man could be putting it generously. The kid looked barely legal to drink.
However the kid was holding a scroll that looked thicker than his own head. A crown, ring, and cape that just screamed royalty.
Constantine did not expect the kid to greet with joy and friendliness.
It was the Ghost King. The being that held full control over that aspect of the mythical realms. His name was Danny, and Constantine found the kid's lack of professionalism a nice break.
That scroll? Every contract Constantine ever signed that used his soul as a bargianing chip.
Now, Constantine expected annoyance. If his soul was technically meant to end up in the grasp of thw King, wouldn't the kid be pissed?
After all, Constantine was certain one of those contracts was with the prior Ghost King.
Except, Danny loved it. He was all grins and laughter as he spoke about it. The kid complained about the amount of paperwork, sure. Who wouldn't?
Aside from that, Danny adored Constantine's work. His nonchalantness when it came to signing away his soul.
Danny relished in the chaos he has happening among various other entities. Praised Constantine, and thanked him for the entertainment.
Constantine realized that this Ghost King was a brat. He enjoyed the chaos and the drama as long as it hurt absolutely anyone. This kid was a little shithead.
And Constantine got a confirmation. No matter what, no matter what contracts he signed. His soul was going to end up in Danny's hands.
Constantine didn't mind that. He liked the spirit the kid had. Found a fondness for the King.
A fondness that only grew with every impromptu meeting. Every time the room grew colder, and the shadows moved and warped in the room.
Constantine grew accustomed to it. He looked forward to it.
Then it happened.
Constantine was at the Justice League Watchtower. A simple consultation, nothing too crazy. It was all going to be fine.
Until Constantine felt the shift in the room.
The temperature dropped. The shadows shifted and contorted, and a portal began to form.
Constantine waved off the other heroes concern and defense. Turning towards the forming portal, and prepared to see the kid. The kid who was easily his favorite being in the world at this point.
Except that changed once he saw the familiar being step through the portal.
Maybe step was the wrong word. Danny basically stumbled out of the green portal. Landing harshly on his knees in front of the league.
Constantine wasted no time rushing forward. Pulling the kid close to him, and taking in the sight. Looking for any sign of what was wrong.
Blood and a green substance coated the kid's closed. And Constantine noted the cape was completely missing. The kid was in tears, shaking horrible and in a state of complete hysteria.
All Constantine knew, was that he was going to make them pay.
Whoever brought this normally confident and carefree king to his knees, wasn't going to last much longer.
Those bastards will pay.

Petition to make 2023 the year all fic writers put permission statements in their AO3 profiles?
Please note this is not me asking all writers to grant blanket permission for other creators to make any and all kinds of transformative works of their fics.
What I am asking is for a simple statement that will help fellow fanwork creators know your boundaries, because honestly, asking is scary! A permission statement can look like…
“I am not open to any transformative works of my fic at this time.” Great! Clear, concise, saves us the time and effort of asking, and the angst of awaiting a reply.
Or
“I am open to any transformative works, including art, podfics, translations, and written works inspired by my fics.” Yay!! This is great news. May the fandom gods bless you with many “related works” notification emails in your inbox.
Or
“I am generally okay with podfics, translations, etc, but please send me a quick message first” Totally! We get it. Maybe you’d rather some of your works stay untouched. Maybe you’d prefer that they’re archive-locked. Maybe you just want to know who you’re dealing with, or you don’t like surprises. Valid! At least we know you’re up for a convo, and will likely respond.
Or
“I am okay with_______ but not _______ of my works.” Yes! Again, clarity! It’s a beautiful thing.
If anyone has anything to add to this appeal, please feel free.

I do wonder sometimes what people seek to achieve with the regular thoughts on yaoi discourse i.e. why are "women" reading about gay men kissing (and fucking), because like there's only going to be a handful of answers to this that are possible and those answers have remained fairly stable with time, so nothing new is going to be achieved from pushing people to either be like a) I find men hot in the same way that men find women hot (and how de trop it is to admit this), b) I am not actually a woman (no one is going to reach this conclusion by you asking them to examine their relationship to gender and attraction, they have to get there on their own, this is like the first rule of trans fight club???), c) I'm not straight and I like reading abt all shades of queerness in fiction, even amongst genders that I don't share, or d) I haven't found fiction that sates some deep-seated unconscious need/desire in other gender configurations of shipping*. Like. What! What are you trying to achieve!
*i ttly get this as someone who is happy to read het or femslash, but finds the avg hetfic excruciatingly boring because of the prepackaged gender types and has specific go to fandoms for my favoured brand of fucked up but charming femslash that usually are far outside the fandoms I create in

There are four main categories of ‘favourite character’:
I am in love with them and maybe want to suck their dick
They are my parent and a hug from them would fix all my problems istg
They are my child and I must protect them at all costs
I hate them, they're my best friend

if you use the words freak, weirdo, creep, degenerate, or other words frequently used by homophobes, racists, and other bigots to discribe the people you don't like, i'm going to assume that you are a homophobe, racist, and or some other kind of bigiot
i don't care if you have a pride flag in your icon or the word bigots right next to freaks in your dni, if you use their language in the same derogatory way they do i am going to assume you are one of them
calling yourself and others a freak or a weirdo or a degenerate in a fun and reclaiming way? great! fantastic! calling others a freak or a weirdo or a degenerate in order to shame, bully, humiliate, or frame them in any way as lesser then you? your just another bigot, don't care if you're queer, you're just a bigot in a queer hat then
just say you don't like the people you don't like, just say that you hate them if you hate them. you don't have to use and shouldn't even want to use the language of bigots to get your feelings and opinions across if you aren't a bigot!

Being in fandom has been such an affirming experience for me. Because fan-fiction has always been associated with teenage girls in pop-culture. But interacting with people who are adults in fandom-unabashed and enjoying themselves-makes me so hopeful.
