while I suspect that the Chime's first mission mini-arc will proooooobably be played in one of the two game systems previously used for the ground game of COUNTER/Weight (which, to be clear, I'm not disappointed at the prospect of! it would definitely be fun to return to TechNoir or The Sprawl again) —
— listening to Ali, Art, Jack, and Keith do fast-talking "false" identity shenanigans in this first Scum and Villainy mission has instilled a deep need in me for said mini-arc to use a Forged in the Dark system.

ok i meant to say sent in that last ask. anyway.
9, 15, and 16 for Monty!!
9. Do they have a word or phrase that they tend to overuse?
Hmm, I haven't thought about her speech patterns too much :O She gives me the vibes of someone who uses "like" in sentences a lot tbh. She also has a tendency to call people by nicknames and frequently use those nicknames while speaking to people. For instance, she calls Firefly "Fly" all the time!
15. Are their greatest flaw and their greatest strength related and in what way? (ie very caring and helpful but a doormat, or very observant and shrewd but often paranoid)
In a way, I think they are! Monty- well, she has a tendency to hold people on pedestals once she views herself as close to them. It opens her up to being easily manipulated by people, or letting what others think color her view. Once she's close to someone, or views herself as such, she'd do almost anything for them, even if it's to her own detriment.
16. How has their childhood affected the way they view an aspect of their life (people, education, society, themselves, etc)?
HOO BOY- Monty goes through some shit okay. I've got at least one drabble posted on here that very clearly depicts that and another in the works. This circles around into the previous question, but, Monty has a tendency to feel like her own thoughts and feelings matter less than others and that she has little to no choice when others tell her what to do. She also has a fundamental distrust of most parental figures, unless given a lot of time to learn how to trust them.
Monty very much views herself as a vessel with which other people use to grow and change, while she remains the same. She's a people-pleaser, to say the least, and has very low self-worth.

listen, palisade is so good but it is stressing me out and I'm also relistening to counter/weight for like the 4th time so the cassmako brainrot is strong. that being said if you see me posting another playlist in a few days know that this is my only coping mechanism and I will not apologize for it

Controversial opinion #678:
The mantle of Batman should not be passed on but instead die with Bruce Wayne.
I mean, who should it go to? Nightwing is who Dick Grayson is, and a completely different brand from Batman. He has the kind of trust and respect as a leader within the superhero community that Batman just doesn't. He should lead the JLA one day as Nightwing. It's insulting to him to think that the Batman mantle is a promotion. Few other people can carry the name of Batman but no one else is worthy of Nightwing.
Jason? The day he wears the Bat's cowl is the day he loses everything that makes him Jason Todd, whether or not he gives up killing. He's supposed to be a renegade of the mission, a counterbalance in values and methods to the Bat, not become him.
Tim? It would consume him completely. Dick is at his best when he's surrounded by a diverse team of people, but Tim straight up needs it. Preferably outgoing, expressive, extroverted and sunny ones that are as unlike him as possible. Being Batman would make him lose himself inside his own head. The last thing this kid needs is more incentive to be manipulative and self-sacrificing.
Cass is honestly the best contender, not least because the cowl wouldn't weigh her down but emancipate and uplift her. The only reason I don't think she should be Batman is because I personally feel she supercedes Bruce in everything his emblem stands for. She should be The Bat - all the essence of guardianship and protection and terror of the night and none of the (let's face it - manpaining) martyrdom. As for the cerebral and leadership aspects of the Batman mantle, I think Cass would be a good leader when the situation calls for it, but I don't know whether she'd thrive in the role. She's a deeply intuitive and empathetic person; the emotional distance and hard choices for the greater good she'd have to make would eat at her more than it would the others. Doing anything "for the greater good" feels anathema to Cass's nature. Her profound and unfettered compassion is her strongest virtue.
Stephanie–what. No. Lmao. She's Hope at the bottom of Pandora's Box. Never that.
Becoming Batman would be the worst for Damian, because the true actualisation of his character is in freeing himself of his parental mold. He only wants to be Batman to prove himself good enough, to be accepted and chosen and trusted, his existence validated. But that's just chasing a mirage, because those insecurities exist chiefly within himself. If he was Batman they would just be exacerbated, condemned to operate forever in his father's shadow, always trying to live up to the legacy of his blood and a mission he never chose for himself.
I don't follow the reboot comics at all so I don't know much about Duke, but it seems the whole point of him is that he's the one who is expressly not supposed to be Batman. The only one of Gotham's heroes that lives in the light of day, never condemned to the shadows.
More than anything, though, the point of Batman's mission is for his role to become obsolete. If the world still needs a Batman by the time Bruce is forced to hang up his cape, then it means that he's failed.

an unnecessarily precise breakdown of major character deaths in Friends at the Table! I would love to hear if I missed any or if people have different opinions about edge cases.
list and explanation below (spoilers, of course, for all seasons):
Ali
Hella died twice--once in Autumn when she came back after making a deal with Tristero, and once in Spring when Samot delayed her death with local reconfiguration and eventually she moved into a pala-din body. Castille started dead, a ghost in a robot body from the jump.
Art
Cass and Sovereign Immunity both died at the end of their respective seasons.
Dre
Oh, Dre. Well. First, Kobus died in the Counterweight finale, which I am counting because they did not have a PC besides them. Then Valence, the first mid-season permadeath that didn't happen in a cutscene, and finally, Chine. Throndir died and came back a vampire; Figure started out undead.
Jack
I'm counting Clem as a permadeath because as far as Jack knew she DID die and regardless it DID end her life as a player character. Fourteen Fifteen gets two; one permadeath for the ending of Twilight Mirage, and one temporary death to cover the many times they perished throughout the season. I don't think they should all count separately because they all happened with the knowledge that they would be temporary, which the others did not. Of course, you could make the argument that Fourteen started off dead...
Janine
Janine has been with the show the least amount of time so she's had fewer opportunities and I'm worried this means she's due.
Keith
Branched Man..... never forget......... I chose not to include the other Makos because they weren't really player characters?
Sylvi
Here to give Dre a run for their money, we've got Jillian Red's death at the end of Counterweight (included for the same reasons as Kobus, above). Ephrim died and came back via Samothes II. Virtue of course started off with the You're Dead playbook, and Hazard is sort of debatable but I've decided that even in Sangfielle, not having a head makes you at least mostly undead.

“Do you think it helps? The tears.” Fourteen was twirling the knife in their hands. “The holding.” “I think so.” Tender shook her head. “It’d better.” They looked flustered, which was fascinating. “Sometimes I feel like I don’t know how to anymore. I guess that's silly.” “It’s not silly. Just a bit weird to bring up to your coworker.” Fourteen laughed. “Will you stop it with that?”

If you're taking requests, Cass and today's Whumptober prompt? Which I think is uhh Journal | Solitary Confinement | “Make it stop.”
It had been seven days.
Seven days since Cass had split from Bruce to cover more ground. Seven days since she realised it was a trap. Seven days since she barely managed to get the message to Bruce fast enough.
Seven days since she wasn’t quick enough to evade the trap herself.
She’d huddled herself into a corner of the room she’d woken up in, glaring daggers at anything she so much as heard through the heavy iron door. Despite her lack of equipment, Cass herself was a weapon, and she remained coiled in her corner like a snake, ready to strike.
Still, seven days of basically no water, food, sleep, or human interaction were beginning to wear her down. Yeah, she could absolutely last another week, and another after that, but would she even want to?
Of course she would, she told herself, because she had to.
Cass stiffened as she felt footsteps approach the doorway. She rocked back, redistributing her weight, tensed, and –
Relaxed, as the footsteps continued beyond the door.
Cass sighed, and once another three minutes had passed with no other sounds, she allowed herself to slump almost completely against her corner. Her legs were beginning to stiffen – but she couldn’t bring herself to leave the corner. She was tired. She was hungry. She was thirsty. She was too – too vulnerable to expose her back to an attack.
She stayed in her corner.
——
It was night – at least, Cass assumed it was. The footsteps always reduced in frequency about this time, before picking up again later, for what she assumed was the morning.
Only this time, there were footsteps – long after the others had stopped.
Not only that, but they were footsteps Cass recognised.
Abandoning her post at the corner – because she could be vulnerable now, she could be safe – Cass leapt towards the door. Her knees clicked with the motion, and Cass hoisted herself up by her fingertips to peer through the small, barred window.
Cass waited in anticipation.
The shadows yielded nothing. No footsteps echoed through the hall.
Slowly, Cass lowered herself back down. She had thought… no. It would be silly to think that Batman would just walk leisurely down the hall. Wishful thinking. Wishful thinking that led her to expose her back.
She quickly retreated back to her corner, drawing her knees up to her chest.
——
Cass stopped accepting the food and water. Surely, if she was hallucinating, then it would be some kind of toxin. Something in her water.
Cass didn’t want to consider that it could be her own mind.
She was a sensory person – she knew she could trust her hearing, her feeling, her sight. What was she to do if she couldn’t? What if her ears whispered lies, her feeling felt phantom tremors, her eyes saw a mirage? Batman – Bruce had told her what to do. Find help. Administer an antidote. But Cass couldn’t find help here, and she had no antidotes.
She had nothing, so she had to take it as everything.
——
Cass was struggling to ignore the shadow in the opposite corner.
“They’ve probably given up,” the shadowy Steph said, reclining languidly on the uncomfortable floor.
“Shut up,” Cass said shortly, and turned her head.
——
The food had piled in front of the door. Just under the little door for the trays. Cass had found that the food gradually went greyer and greyer the longer it sat there.
——
Cass heard the familiar footsteps again. This time she didn’t bother looking through the window.
Like the others, they disappeared.
——
Cass startled awake – no, no, she couldn’t sleep here.
She shook her head, which only made everything spin faster. She hit herself in the side of the head, frustrated, and tried to get her bearings back.
Nothing had changed. The food may have been greyer. Cass drooped against her corner.
Noise, again. Cass closed her eyes. It was only as real as the other noises – which was to say, entirely fake.
The footsteps again, familiar, but they weren’t walking anymore. They stormed down the corridor. Cass could almost feel it in her skull.
She raised her head, unsure. This felt awfully real, even compared to her previous hallucinations.
Cass unfurled slightly as the noise grew louder, louder, louder, until the fog in her head subdued it again.  Her vision tilted, which Cass ignored as she walked to the door.
The first bolt slid open with an unholy shriek, followed by the second, the third, and then –
Cass shot out of the cell, ricocheting off the wall opposite and down the hall to where she thought the exit would be. Or at least, that was how she had expected it to go.
In reality, Cass did shoot out of the cell – straight into the bat symbol.
——
For his part, Bruce did seem very apologetic about Cass’s bloody nose, but frankly, Cass couldn’t care less. She’d collapsed pretty much instantly, anyway, and right now she was just glad she could actually hold onto someone and know they were real.
