I am. *incredibly* disappointed to continuously see fanfic authors disregard cool little canon moments for boring fanon ones. Don't get me wrong, fanon » canon most of the time — stop making Damian white, for fuck's sake — but there's just. So much POTENTIAL out there.
Remember Countdown? With Jason stuck in an alternative universe with a Batman that actually killed? Or, I'unno, Tim's weirdly extensive romantic history-non-history? Or the badass Bombshell lore for the Al Ghuls (and Jason!). Hell, try to fix the arcs you didn't like into something you do! Give me a good N52 Titans run! Give me a really cool All Caste Jason run! Give me Damian and Goliath in a proper story! Give me Ric Grayson done well! I'unno!

Uh. Here’s that car chase scene I was talking about. Free writing brings some really great like, self-expanding ideas. But it literally never goes where I started from. So here’s that scene cut and pasted directly from the notes file that was supposed to be my johnkyle idea.
Weird.
Of course. Of course Dick would be here the minute Bruce ran a red light with just a few miles to spare to reach the Gotham-‘Haven Bridge.
Red and blue lights fill the interior of Bruce’s GT-R.
Fuck. Bruce thinks as the ramming bar appears from between the laundromat and the gas station. The nitro is already empty.
“Fuck!” he shouts, punching the center console. Two dump trucks are parked at the entrance to the bridge. A sea of wood pallets and orange cones litters the river side of the intersection.
Bruce rips back the parking break as he drops a gear. The car elegantly slides sideways through the intersection; the front bumper hugging the median as the tires smoke and scream.
Dick’s car takes the turn with the hint of a fishtail. The heavier, American car wasn’t made to drift like the GT-R.
The cop car begins to wail, but Bruce isn’t stopping. He touches the wire under his shirt. He can’t get Dick involved in this. He can’t.
Bruce downshifts to fifth and puts the pedal to the floor. He’s got two miles of straightaway to put some distance between himself and Dudley Do-Right. If he can just do that, he can make it to the tunnel and out of Dick’s jurisdiction.
Behind him, the headlights seem to flicker. The fog on the road swirls around the BPD logo on the hood. The growling engine seems to pause its rumble and take a deep breath as the paddle shifter moves the clutch at an inhuman speed. The grille opens wider to suck more air into the intercooler. A roar erupts from eight cylinders at full, supercharged pursuit power. The space between the cars begins to rapidly shrink.
Of course he’d be in BPD’s brand new C7.

ok last post bitching for a while, i swear, but i feel the need to clarify that i'm not annoyed about the sinestro vs batman thing because i think it'll result in any sort of major shift where sinestro becomes a recurring batvillain instead of a green lantern villain (though, honestly, at this point, i can’t say i’d be that surprised)
it's just an incredibly irritating continuation of this trend where literally EVERYTHING in the dcu has to be made to relate to the bats in one way or another no matter how nonsensical and pointless it is or if it makes everything about the story and characters worse
it’s bad enough when it’s heroes that have next to nothing to do with bats being dumbed down and shoved into batbooks for no other reason than to be a sidekick and prop them up (connor hawke, roy harper, artemis, etc), but making these incredibly powerful villains related to the bats not only does a disservice to them but it also makes the BATS worse
shit like metal, with its all-powerful villain being an incredibly annoying au batman who’s all-powerful pretty much just because batman is that Powerful and Important on a multiversal level, and bats going up against sinestro, who the entire green lantern corps has gone up against and been unable to stop, imo just fundamentally misunderstands the whole point and appeal of the bats
bruce & co are some of the ONLY ones who AREN'T super powerful, god-touched chosen ones. they're just people! batman is literally just some guy trying to do what he can in a world where everything is absolutely insane. the bats are at their best when they're grounded, street level heroes in a world where everybody else is fighting gods and aliens. they’re not all-powerful. they’re not powerful at all. that’s what sets them apart. that’s the POINT.
this shit is not only stupid from the perspective of fans of the galactic-level threat type villains being nerfed to the point where it’s plausible that a bat could get within 50 feet of them without being immediately thumped, but it actively makes the bats themselves less interesting
#long post#when i made my title 'comic book hateblog' i thought i was joking but turns out it was a prophecy. help#again this is all JUST MY OPINION#but all the 'batgod' bullshit has completely ruined batman comics as a whole#if you read older batstuff he loses!! he loses all the damn time!! but he gets back up and keeps trying#THAT'S what makes batman a good character#he is in way over his head and he knows it but he keeps trying#that is nowhere to be found in modern batstuff#he never struggles with anything. he's always got everything completely under control and knows whats going on#even when it's literally impossible and makes no sense for him to know shit even if you suspend disbelief to the max#he's bigbrained to the point of being omnipresent and nothing ever threatens him#again. no stakes! no tension! what's the point! why am i here! you know a bat's gonna win the second they show up on the page#there's no point in even reading it all just falls so flat#bleh !!!!!!!!!#and again! the fact that they're doing this with a new character#HOW is this going to help establish jace in ANY WAY#he's not even in gotham. has almost no interactions with the other bats.#and now his villains arent even batvillains#what is!! the point!!!
