My mind can really work in some type of way.
I just had a thought about Emma Watson appearing in an Agatha Christie adaptation (because in Three Act Tragedy there is a character called Hermione) and it just makes so much sense to me that she should be in one! So, Agatha Christie has a lot of young women characters who find themselves solving a mystery. Victoria of They Came to Baghdad, Frankie from Why Didn’t They Ask Evans (which has just been adapted), Emily in The Sittaford Mystery, Anne in The Man in the Brown Suit, etc etc. I think Emma would be great at one of those roles. There is, of course, the best known of all, Tuppence Beresford (though she’s only young in the first two books, as she and Tommy actually age, unlike Poirot and Marple). So I’m thinking, what if Emma played Tuppence? The David Walliams series a few years ago was not really much, we could do with a new, better adaptation. So who would play Tommy, I’m thinking, so I’m thinking what if Emma was reunited with her HP boyfriend, Rupert Grint? And you know what, Tommy is a redhead like Rupert!

REDO: Symbiotes being assholes
ok so I noticed a few of you guys wanted a part 4 to that symbiote series, the one that ended off with Anti-Venom getting reader, and another for the one of playing uno with toxin. but after reading both, I realized I cannot just let them be written like that. I think I've become a better writer since then, and tbf it's almost been like. 2 years since then. so I've decided to re-write both of them! probably next week will either be another of this series or of the toxin one, but either way I wanted to give another chance at them because they bring so many happy memories but also. I can't stand to read the things I used to write lol. so here's the first part to the symbiotes being assholes series, but a re-written version!
summary: after eddie takes you from your comfortable life with your family, you can say that you absolutely hate him and his stupid symbiote. but after a realization, you begin to think that your original decision was wrong.
words: 4286
warnings: talk of murder, kidnapping, stolkhome syndrome, cussing, lmk if I missed any!
Tumblr media
The walls were an ugly tan, it was uglier than your own room when you left it. The ceiling was one of those popcorn ceilings, the windows were somehow tinted brown, and the floorboards creaked whenever you stepped somewhere in your room.
You hated it. You wanted to say you disliked it, as negativity was everywhere in this apartment, but you hated it. You hated the smell, you hated the look, even the damn traffic outside.
And you certainly hated the man who brought you here.
Eddie Brock, he was a reporter and journalist on certain violent crimes, however, after losing his job when he went snooping somewhere he definitely wasn’t supposed to, he has had to resort to his own jobs, and finding different opportunities himself.
And most importantly, you hated him. He left you in the apartment for hours on end, with nothing to do, besides maybe turn on the TV, and watch the same channels over and over again.
The only thing that kept you sane in this hole they called an “apartment” was, surprisingly, his books. He had tons, and tons of books. Mostly collectors or true crime books. You didn’t really care for them before, but they’ve gained a new appreciation from you.
Everyday, you would read the books, sometimes switching in between different ones, and trying to figure out the pieces yourself, even if the answer was given to you.
Other times, you would feel a little dumb when you read them, as you couldn’t figure it out within the first few chapters. It was hard for you to not just flip to the ending of it and read those pages with those books.
Whenever he left, you would grab one or two, and hide yourself in your room. Sometimes, if the day was less cloudy than usual, you would sit in front of the living room couch and read them there.
Going through the pages, reading every word, plot twist, and analyzing every character. With your favorites, you would re-imagine the stories with yourself in them. You would begin to think you’re crazy sometimes, thinking like this.
But you didn’t care. You had long learned that no one was in your mind, reading your thoughts. It was just you. Alone.
Sometimes you would stare outside, through the dirty window, and wonder to yourself what would you do if you got the opportunity to go outside again. You could go downtown, there was that little cafe you and your friends would visit. There was the city park, while dirty, you remember what the grass felt like when you would run around barefoot. Oh, and the movies! Your family liked to watch any latest movie, as it was a fun outing for all of you.
And then, it would get too overwhelming. Those nights always made you cry.
Of course, you would never tell him. Or Venom. Besides, even if you did, they were always out. With some exceptions, they would leave around noon and come back at 8 or 9 in the evening.
This was also the reason why they would be present for the first few hours you would be awake. Everyday with them was almost a routine. They would gently wake you up, let you get dressed, eat your breakfast that they made for you, brush your teeth and hair, and then you would be with them until they left.
Sometimes they would just talk absently to you, like they didn’t expect you to answer. Other times, they would ask you questions about what you wanted, what you liked, and just try to have basic conversations.
Of course, you never really participated. At least, you tried not to. Your spite and anger were stronger than your fear, and you would glare at them whenever they tried to talk to you.
They would keep trying, however. Every day was a new topic, or sometimes they would bring up a previous talk to try and engage you. However, nothing was as bad as when they decided to get physical.
While you were relieved their anger wasn’t as present as yours (if they even had any towards you), they would force you to cuddle with them. Even if you tried to push away, you realized that fighting against a big man with a bigger alien was not a good idea. So, you would just let them sit there and hold you, never letting go.
Eventually, they would let go, and you would try not to show how eager you were to get out of their hold.
You remember one time, it was late at night, and they had had a bad day. Something about some weird guy making them mad, if you recalled. They had just grabbed you and hugged you on the couch.
While you were uncomfortable at first, you started to feel yourself relax for the first time since you were taken. You felt your shoulders drop, your jaw unclenched. It almost felt like going into a warm bath on a chilly night. It was… pleasant.
You had closed your eyes, ready to fall asleep when you heard their small chuckle. Your eyes never shot open as quickly as then, and yet, you found yourself wanting to go back to sleep.
Unbelievable! You screamed to yourself, trying to rationalize with yourself: this isn’t right.
But unfortunately, you didn’t win that night. You had told yourself, it’s only one night, it won’t kill me, even as your morality was sitting in the back of your mind, even as it was screaming at you to get up and go, you didn’t listen.
It was too comfortable, it was too cozy, you didn’t want to leave. The thought hit you before you went to sleep.
You didn’t want to leave.
---
The first slap in the face was the fact that you stopped checking the date every day. It was just something you remembered, before you realized why it was so important.
How long has it been? 3 months? 4? You tried to remember the date you were taken. It was a Wednesday, right? Or was it a Thursday?
Eddie had started to let you watch the TV with him. Mainly just news channels, as he would give a basic summary of what he would have to do that day. This morning, he had made you eggs and hashbrowns. He had apologized for the little amount of food he had, as he still had to go to the store. You had a little laugh to yourself, “I don’t really care, your food usually tastes good.”
He gave you a small smile, “Well, so long as Venom doesn’t cook anything.”
“I make great food! I don’t even need this food, I can eat both of you!”
You and Eddie laughed with each other, before he gave you his mini summary of what his day was going to be.
“... so apparently, they think her mom is behind all of it, but they aren’t sure.”
“Hasn’t she been found, though?”
“Yes, but apparently the whole time they kept her in a sealed room and when they would enter, they would wear masks over their face.”
“Damn. That doesn’t sound easy to find out.”
Eddie was trying to find his sweater, and you had opted to help him find it. The bedroom, living room, even the bathroom, you couldn’t find it.
“Well, it might be easier to figure out than finding my damn jacket.” You had given him a small chuckle, before Venom suddenly jumped in. “I can be the sweater!”
Before either of you could respond, he wrapped himself onto Eddie, giving him an almost jet black jacket, the same as his other one. Just, of course, this time it was Venom.
Eddie walked back to the kitchen, before returning, this time with his little bag he carried his stuff in.
“I’m gonna be a little late today, they all live in the upper state. Hopefully, since I’m leaving early, I’ll be earlier than expected, but we still have leftovers from yesterday's dinner, too.”
You picked up your plate, and went to grab his. “Don’t worry, I won’t starve.”
“Good. If you wanted me too, I could grab something from the way home?”
You thought about the idea of your favorite takeout, your mouth watering at the image in your mind. “That would be great, actually. Thank you.”
He unlocked the front door, before he turned to meet your eye. “Remember, late day today. I’ll be back this evening, though.”
And with that he closed the door.
You brought the plates and dishes to the sink, cleaning off any little bits left, and then set them out to dry on the little rack you had on the counter.
When putting down the last plate, you realized that that was probably the most you’ve ever talked with them. You also realized you weren’t angry at all towards him.
---
Every day you were becoming more and more compliant with your situation. You were hiding it, almost as good as your sadness from the nights you would think about the outside. Actually, you hadn’t even wondered about your family for a while. Or your friends, or your favorite places.
And it was starting to scare you. Really scare you.
You had tried to make yourself wonder about your previous life, but then, all the negatives popped up. The work of school, your own actual work you would attend, your doubts in your friends' trust.
It was weird for you to think about. Every time you wandered back to those memories, something negative would pop up. Even when you thought of the more positive memories. The cafe you remembered when your friends forgot about the meetup and didn’t even show up. The park has always been dirty, you just didn’t remember it. And the movies were really only for your parents, never to take into consideration on what you wanted.
You tried to go back to when you hated the place, to when you would cry yourself to sleep and wonder if you were ever able to leave.
It was harder and harder to go back to that mindset.
Today was another day you just decided to go with it. You were too tired to fight against your exhaustion of wondering what you should feel, so you would just act normally in front of them.
Today was another early-late day for him.
“This time, I don’t think I’ll be able to get anything from a restaurant, sorry.”
“That’s fine with me, I think I can make dinner myself tonight. How about stir fry?”
He walked past you, putting on his shoes at the door. “That sounds great. You can make it early, I can just reheat it.”
You smiled, gathering up the dishes you had left on the table.
“Oh, hey, by the way.”
You stopped and looked at him. “You haven’t had anyone come to knock on the doors lately, right?”
You shook your head, “No, the last time someone knocked on the door was around 3 weeks ago? Can’t remember.”
He hummed, “Well, if someone does, and you can’t see anyone through the viewport, don’t answer the door.”
Laughing, you put the glasses in the sink. “What, is some serial killer going to knock on the door waiting for me to answer?”
There wasn’t anything from the doorway. You turned around, confused, only to almost jump. His face was worried. Like he had just seen a ghost.
“Don’t answer the door. In fact, don’t even make a noise if someone does.”
Your heart started to quicken, not only from what he was saying, but also because of the sudden switch in mood.
“Oh… ok.” You awkwardly shuffled around, trying to get the rest of the plates without meeting his gaze.
“Alright.” he sighed, turning back to the door. “I’ll be back this evening. Love you.”
“Love you, too.” the door closed and you could hear the lock turning, before you heard his footsteps towards the stairs.
Walking back to the living room, you decided to yourself the dishes could wait. You wanted a nap. You absentmindedly thought of what he said. Why was he so worried about the knocking? Was there a news story that scared him? He had told you sometimes, with stories that were too graphic, he would wonder about if someone like that was going to go after him or you.
Well, he seemed alright when you both said bye-
You said you loved him.
---
That afternoon, instead of doing anything you were planning on doing, you had a mini mental talk with yourself.
You had to decide what you wanted. No, you had to decide if you wanted this or your old life back. This was getting out of hand.
First, you let yourself relax around them, then you started being friendly with them, and now you're acting just as they want you to: to be a good kid who does what they're told and doesn’t make a fuss.
You even said you loved him! Like a real family…
Did you want that? No. No, not at all. You wanted your old family, your old friends. But, this was so much more comfortable. I mean, no job, no worries, you used to think about all the worries you would have when you graduated your college, now the most you worry about is what you will have for food that night!
Is it that bad? The thoughts in your head clashed together, and you soon realized that it had been a few hours since they left. 6:04. Had you really been thinking about it this long?
You wanted to tell yourself you’d get over it, that it was going to just pass, but the more thoughts rushed into your head. This is not something that can just pass as easily as a test, this has to be a conscious decision.
But you couldn’t do it. You realized you had far too many indecisive thoughts and feelings at that moment. Everything you had been thinking about was solely based on your situation. You turned on the TV to try and get some static, barely listening to the reporter, who was spouting off some weather reports for the next day.
“-and breaking from Michelle here, we have more info on the Midtown Murders.”
What?
Turning up the volume, you listened. “Well, police haven’t said who their suspect is, but they believe that whoever is responsible is still loose. Reports say that the killer walks around the evenings from 6 in the evening all the way to 5 in the morning. I mean, really, can all we do is wait for them to kill us all?”
“Well, while the city council has asked the city for a curfew time from the evenings to the mornings, they have been very lenient on what they want. However, what we can tell is that-”
Knock knock.
Startling yourself, you jumped for the remote, putting the TV on mute. You listened again, and before you could convince yourself it wasn’t anyone, you heard it again.
It was almost like a loud boom. But it was just someone at the door.
Quietly, you sneaked up to the door. It felt so weird. It shouldn’t be this scary. It was just someone at the door! You looked through the peephole, hoping to see someone there.
To your relief, there was someone you recognized. The apartment owner, Roger, if you remember correctly.
“Eddie? Are you there?”
Straightening up, you said, “No, he’s not here at the moment.”
“Who- oh. Uh, when will he be home?” He said.
“Around 10 probably.”
“10?! I- Alright, I’ll just come back tomorrow. Would you let him know that?”
“Yeah, I will.” You relaxed your shoulders, and let out a sigh you didn’t even know you were holding.
“Well thank you anyway.” You heard his footsteps go away from the door, when you suddenly remembered your whole decision talk.
This could be your chance! You haven’t talked to anyone besides Eddie and Venom since… Well, it felt like forever!
“Wait!” While you instantly regretted it, the rational part of your mind pushed away your embarrassment.
He seemingly stopped in the middle of the hallway. “What?”
You stood silently for a moment. Should you? You knew he had the keys to the apartment. He could get you out. You could be free.
“Did you, uh, need something?” You didn’t realize he had walked a little closer back thinking you were going to say something.
“Uh.” Should I? Turning outside the window, you saw the almost beautiful city, glowing and gleaming, even if it was a tinted window.
“Could you open the door for me?I lost the extra set of keys we had, and he changed the lock so it could only be opened with a key.”
You heard sputtering, before, “He did WHAT? He didn’t even tell me!”
While you thought he would drag into you, you heard the door lock open. “Well, I’ll see if I have a spare, but you have to be more careful with these things, you know. They’re not cheap.”
Getting out of your trance with the lights, you quickly replied, “Thank you, I’m sure I’ll find it before you get a spare, though.”
He grumbled something, “Well, don’t count on me for one if you can’t find it.”
And with that, he walked off.
---
It was another hour before you finally faced the door again. Originally, your mind didn’t even want to face it, too scared of the planning and thoughts that rushed to your head. But you soon realized that it was too stupid to hide in your room, so you walked back outside.
You didn’t even sit at the couch, you just plopped yourself in front of the door. You were trying to reason with yourself, with one side telling you to make a run for it, while the other saying to wait, that you needed to think about this.
What is there to think about? You’ve been thinking this whole day! In fact, you haven’t even had anything to eat or drink, you haven’t done any chores, you’ve just been sitting on the damn couch and pondering on what your decision was going to be!
And that got your mind going. What’s gonna happen when Eddie comes back home to you having not done anything all day, you haven’t made any dinner, you haven’t even eaten or taken care of yourself yet, and to top it all off, the door was open.
You wouldn’t be able to make an excuse. There would be no excuses. He would find out. He would get mad. What would he do? Would he finally let go of all the anger? Every single time you cussed at him, that you yelled at him, hell even when you were in your no talking phase: is he going to remember all of that and actually attack you?
You didn’t even realize you had grabbed some random bag you found and filled it with clothes and snacks. You didn’t have much to bring, really:
Standing at the door, with the bag in your hand, you were about to start crying.
Do it! Your mind screamed. Get out of here before he comes back!
But he’ll find you! The other part yelled. He’s gonna be so mad, and everything that you’ve worked for will be gone!
You looked back to the window, the whole thing that you could theoretically say started this whole mess. It didn’t look so pretty now. In fact, it looked ugly. There were no stars, there were no pretty colors in the sky: just black, with the city lights peaking out.
But you didn’t want it to look pretty: it looked like freedom. It looked like the outside. You could almost feel the ground beneath you, the smell, even if it wasn’t that great.
You could see your family again.
Turning back to the door, your mind screamed in all directions. Don’t leave! Why do you want to be in some prison for the rest of your time? You’ll be safe here! You’re only gonna rot in here! Who’s gonna love you outside, anyway?
Do you really want to spend the rest of your life tucked away?
You turned the knob of the door, and quickly rushed outside, thinking someone was going to grab you and drag you back inside. You stayed still for a moment. There was nothing. No one was there. Just you, and your pacing heart. You wanted to cry.
Looking at the time, it was only 7:30. You had at least 2 hours before he even got home.
I mean, if you really regret it, you can just return right back on time, right?
You didn’t need any more motivation. You closed the door and ran down the hall.
---
You don’t know how long you’ve been running for. After you got out of the apartment, you ran all the way down the street, ignoring anything and everything in your way. But after what felt like eternity, and after your lungs started to burn until you couldn’t take it, you sat down at some random city bench.
You were out. You were free. You didn’t know what to do, either. You had just been running for, what, the past 10 minutes?
You sat there for a good while before your mind finally caught up to you.
What could you do? Did you want to go back? You could theoretically ask someone for help, get back to your family…
Right? Because that’s the reason you left. You want to get away from Eddie, from Venom, it doesn't matter how much your heart hurts, or how your feelings hurt, you have to get away.
Resting your head in your hands, you silently screamed to yourself. You didn’t know whether you should jump for joy or if you should collapse sobbing to yourself.
God, you thought, everything is against me…
“Are you lost?”
Shooting up, you turned to the owner of the voice, which revealed some middle aged looking guy. He had red hair, and was pretty skinny.
“Uh, no.” You sat back down, embarrassed you were so startled by a guy you should have already seen. “No, I’m just… resting.”
“Hmm.” he walked closer, and while your instincts told you to walk away, you were too tired. You wanted to cry and scream at the same time, and you really wanted to go to sleep.
“Sorry, you just seemed like you didn’t know what you were doing.”
You would’ve laughed at the irony if you weren’t simultaneously scared and sad. “Yeah, yeah, I’m… just tired.”
He sat down on the bench with you, albeit on the other side. You both sat in a semi comfortable silence, with him just staring off into the distance, like he didn’t even realize you were there, while you were going through the five stages of grief all at once.
“Are you from here?”
Getting your shit together, you said “Uh, yeah, I am.”
“That’s nice. What’s your name?”
“______.”
He hummed, and it went back to silence for a minute. Then, he asked, “Do you know someone by the name Eddie Brock?”
You stiffened. What? “Excuse me?”
“Eddie Brock.” He repeated, turning to you. “You know, famed journalist and reporter, was into discovering true crime cases, decided to go behind his wife’s back and look up secret info that spiraled his career downward, but now he just does job to job?”
You quickly sobered yourself, and while thinking of what to say, he stood up abruptly.
“I know you do, don’t worry. I was just wondering how you knew him.”
You quickly realized how fucked you actually were. This guy was skinny, which probably meant he could run faster than you. There wasn’t anyone around, which was great for your whole mental breakdown, it wasn’t good for being alone with some random guy.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Before you could even think, his face almost morphed into one similar to Venom. But this time, it was blood red, and he wore a smile on his face that stretched ear to ear.
“Oh, but I know you do!”
You didn’t even need to think about the different options you had then, you just ran.
Of course, it didn’t do you much good, as you were picked up within a matter of seconds, and tossed into the air like some toy.
“I know you know what I know!” He sang in a sing-song voice, grabbing you by the waist. You realized he was perched on top of a street light. You realized he had doubled in size and went from some skinny man to a huge symbiote, almost bigger than Venom.
“I can smell him all over you, y’know! There’s no need to lie!”
Looking down, you couldn’t even say anything as it felt like you were going to be dropped at any second, only focusing on your balance in his hand. Trying to pry his hand open wasn’t working at all as he laughed.
“Well, unfortunately for you, you’re gonna have to deal with me now!”
You felt yourself getting thrown over his shoulder and your head beginning to get a headache. Your whole body lurched from one side to the other, and you realized you were in the air.
“We’re gonna love you!”
As you felt the wind rushing in your face, the smells of the city around you, and your heartbeat pounding in your ears, you comically thought that all of this could have been avoided if you just listened to your feelings.

Meet the Writer Tag!
(Thank you so much to @mysticstarlightduck for tagging me! Sorry I took so long lol)
This is me!
Tumblr media
(I don't normally wear this many accessories/jewellery lol. But I wish I did! I love it sm)
Three Fun Facts About Me:
I have never been in a relationship before. Ever. The only experience I have in that department is through other people's stories, not really my own. And by that, I mean that I'm used to watching my friends/people around me getting in and out of relationships, and listening to songs about romance and love and heartbreak... but not really relating to them due to not having any of those experiences myself (but it's alright, tho. It'll happen when it happens! In the meantime, I always have my made-up ships from my writing lol).
My favourite book growing up was "Matilda" by Roald Dahl. I thought Matilda was such a cool girl growing up lol. And lowkey relatable in a lot of ways. No, I wasn't a child genius. But she kind of fits into the archetype that I always found comfort in due to being that kind of person myself. Smart/intellectually curious, bookworm, introverted/independent, genuinely kind and has a heart in spite of being seen as cold by others (another example of this is Huey from Boondocks. Been rewatching some episodes of that show recently and wow... forgot how crazy it was lol. It's good, tho).
Christmas is my favourite holiday! 🎅❄️🎄I do get why some people may dislike it, I guess (like, my younger sister isn't a fan, and she's explained why... I get it. The over-commercialisation of it takes a lot of the "specialness" out of it, you know? Distracts from the actual meaning behind it and all. Plus, it can suck if you're just feeling sad and lonely during a time of celebration for everyone else. Aside from that, technically Easter is more significant if you look at it from the lens of which Christian holiday is most important). But I love the joyfulness and festiveness. Makes me feel all jolly and cosy inside. Plus, I love singing Christmas carols. And presents. And Christmas movies. I just love Christmas lol.
Favorite season:
Autumn. Or fall, as some others prefer to call it. That's when my birthday is!!
(Second place is summer because that's holiday season. Plus, that's when my sister's birthday is.)
Continent where I live:
I live in the UK, so Europe.
How I spend my (free) time:
Writing (duh)
Writeblr stuff (tag games, making OC playlists, answering questions, communicating with followers and having discussions with them about writing, etc)
YouTube (mainly watching videos... but I do want to start making videos myself at some point. Stay tuned for that, I guess)
Studying/school assignments (I'm in university)
Listening to music
Singing
Watching movies/TV shows
Reading
Eating lol
Are you published?
No. It'd be cool to be, though. Pretty sure I've mentioned this at least once before, but I want to self-publish the Stephanie Smith saga once I'm done with it.
Introvert or extrovert?
Introvert. 100% introvert lol. I feel most comfortable within myself when I'm by myself. As a kid, I was so painfully shy that the thought of going up to someone and asking a simple question would terrify me lol. As I got older, though, I was super duper lonely, and I realised that I had no real friends because I was keeping myself all closed off in a tight shell, so I'd literally force myself to open up and become more social and make friends with other kids. I practised it, like how you do with any skill. Now it's not so bad. I'd say I can carry a conversation with someone fairly well, even if I don't know them so well.
Favorite meal:
Ooooh.... this is hard. I love most foods lol.
I think I'll go with something a little bit more traditional. I'm Kenyan, and one of my favourite meals that I've grown up eating is chapatti and stew (any kind of stew, or soup. But my mum would usually make this stew with kidney beans. That was a big hit growing up). Haven't had it in almost a year, tho.
Aside from that, I love pizza. And Nandos.

Rwrb movie review, obviously spoilers below
3’5/5
Half a star for “Prince Henry belongs to Britain. Henry Fox has to belong to himself or else he’ll vanish.” “Can he ever belong to someone else?” “Only momentarily.”
Half a star for this masterpiece:
Tumblr media
Would have been a full star if it had been longer.
Half a star for “My life is the crown and yours is politics and I will not trade one prison for another.”
Aside that, the movie is a 2/5
The book is much better.
Things I liked:
Sweet moments between Alex and Henry.
Henry after the lakehouse.
Zahra.
What they did with the text messages (see above). I think it was incredibly creative and I really like it.
Things I did not like:
What they did to Alex’s character. They completely butchered my boy and I’ll never forgive them. What do you mean the meeting at Rio is the only reason Alex disliked Henry?? What about the constant comparison between both of them than the media and the public makes which is just a constant reminder to Alex than he will always have it harder for being brown and the son of the first woman to be president?? Why about the whole thing leading to Rio?? The magazine, Alex kind of idealizing Henry and wanting to meet him and Henry to turn out to be not what he expected so there’s just another bitter taste on top of it?? What do you mean his parents are not only together, but happily together? If they were together but unhappy it would make sense. They can’t divorce, Ellen already has it hard enough being a woman and a democrat to also be a divorced woman. But happily married?? Tf? We already knew June wouldn’t be there but I still miss her, and without her something about the movie falls flat. Alex overworking himself, his insecurity, his public persona, etc etc where the fuck is it. Why did they make Alex a one dimensional character? I’ll never forgive them for what they did to him. That being said, I think Taylor did a good job portraying him, and the problem is just the script and the decisions made. If the script and all was good, I think Taylor would have really been able to fully show and portray Alex.
This guy Miguel, I skipped every scene he was in except the one where we meet him. I hate him, why was he even added. I genuinely don’t get that writing decision.
I get we didn’t get more Bea and Pez, we didn’t have enough time to show everything, but what shocks me is not getting more Philip / the king. Something to fully show monarchy’s homophobia would be nice. They just added everything in the last second and it was incredibly rushed.
Catherine??
No Dear Thisbe???
Half the e-mails either being cut up or replaced by new e-mails, taking away the best ones and the feelings of having to hide, of loving each other from distance, etc etc
Many many scenes taken away. I understand there was not all the time in the world, I don’t need everyone to come yell at me in the replies, I know. This is all criticism while having in mind than it’s a movie, not a tv show. But that’s what bothers me. A book with so many subplots, all equally important should have been a tv show not a movie.
Your song was not on the movie at all, not part of the soundtrack not even mentioned. Can’t Help Falling In Love With You for the v&a dance is a good decision. The symbolism of it (Henry thought himself of incapable of being loved, his position and being closeted and everything and just the way he was too much of a burden, but Alex plays that song specifically, he can’t help falling in love with Henry, it’s not a chore.) But it also takes away from us the I love him on purpose, since these two statements contradict each other.
The lake confession, but since Alex apparently has no depth I’m not surprised.
Alex coming out to the world and confirming their relationship, therefore also outing Henry without even consulting him??? What even was that
These ones are not really important but I don’t get it: why is bea younger, why are Henry’s last names different, why do random women just kiss Alex in New Years without even asking

you are so real for that response to nansheofearth's comment. lesbians are stuck licking crumbs off the boots of bihet feminist women or queer/trans identified people.
ive been to polilez/radfem events too, and hearing them talk is as alienating as being a homosexual women in queer spaces. sorry i dont want to listen to women talk about how boring their husbands became, or the 4 kids they had with a man before they "became lesbians". it is so alienating as a lesbian, you feel like you truly are a freak of nature, when even other "lesbians" can talk so casually about sleeping with men, so what's wrong with you that your whole being seizes with disgust and wrongness at the thought. or maybe there really is no one like you in the world.
it sucks that even other lesbians make allowances for radical feminist homophobia. our self esteem is so grounded into the dust that we think we need to put up with this homophobia for the "greater good".
your blog has become the go-to for lesbians haha, i check it regularly even if i don't otherwise check tumblr, so i'm throwing in my few cents into the discussion.
Hi anon!
(Anon is referring to that post.)
Thank youuuu, your last paragraph made me so happy 🥹 I'm glad my blog can be a positive lesbian space! Now I'm thinking I should post more beautiful women and gifs from lesbian movies hehe
I totally understand what you mean, that's pretty much how I felt when I went to that lesbian festival (tbh I knew something was wrong when the woman who handed me a flyer at the entrance had super long glittery stiletto nails, I almost left then and there 🤣)
To summarize the first edition of that lesbian festival last year:
First there was a panel on lesbian representation in the media that was derailed to trans males within ten minutes (and even complained about trans criminals being misgendered!), the second panel about intersectionality of lesbians of color had zero lesbian in it, only bi women and trans males
Then there was a lesbian comedy show with two fakebians talking about their ex-boyfriends and making jokes about lesbians' supposed obsession with astrology + a non-binary bi woman who claimed that her gender identity made all her relationships gay (she called herself a dyke and a faggot)
There was a sex-ed booth held by an influencer who had DYKE (yes, in all caps) in her Twitter bio while talking about her het hookups (and throwing a real tantrum when people told her it didn't make sense), she also made sex ed videos on our national tv channel's website where she said that lesbians have sex with men and that men can be lesbians. She has since removed dyke from her bio.
A lesbian bookstore had a booth too, the original owners retired and the new ones are polilez queers who keep promoting books about lesbianism being a choice... Half of the books at that booth were about trans people.
Needless to say, I wouldn't even inflict that on a lesbian I dislike as a prank!
What you said about "lesbians" talking casually about having had sex with men reminds me of a French podcast I listened to years ago that was about bisexual and "lesbian" women who were with men before realizing they were attracted to women. The first conclusion I had was that I couldn't relate at all and felt very uneasy about it. I didn't even dare write my second conclusion back then but it was basically this:
Tumblr media
I couldn't differentiate their stories at all. And deep down, they must know this because fakebians use their experiences with men as a way of relating with bi and het women while being mostly hostile to gold stars and finding us unrelatable!
Anyway, this is really long already haha Question for the gold stars: what would be your dream lesbian event? 💃 (apart from being only for actual lesbians, of course!)

Percy Jackson Disney+ series Ep. 1 & 2 Review (SPOILERS BELOW THE CUT)
This is WAY better than the movies and thank god for that. Now this is not entirely book accurate, and while I do like in general what they have altered, there were some things that made me go
Tumblr media
I am very glad that they did a 2 episode release because that first episode would’ve probably turned folks away from it, second episode was much better in pacing.
Spoilers below
Ep. 1
First off, I love how they named the episodes after chapters in the books, such a fun reference, but it doesn’t make all that much sense given a little those titles actually have to do with the episode. This was such an exposition dump that it kind of made it clear that the show is for the book fans and not kids. They were clearly trying to get the main world building out of the way so they could get to the action parts of the story.
I really disliked how they handle the Dodds scene. Compared to the Dodds in the movies, I think that actually looked better than what this was in terms of character design- The fury in the TV series looked goofy and not scary at all. Aside from character design, the mist only does so much, and I disliked how Dodds attacked Percy out in the open like that since even with the Mist, it would’ve still look like someone attacking or some kind of fight happening. In the books, Grover and Chiron clearly knew Dodds was some kind of monster, but didn’t know for certain what kind. In the show when they say that the Mist was covering up Dodds too well that made no sense since both Grover and Chiron are monsters so the mist wouldn’t affect them. The Mist only affects mortals, which is why demigods are susceptible to the mist, but can kind of force themselves to see through it. On that note, I love the sequence of young Percy seeing things, and the mist then making it look like some thing else. That part was well done, and it made sense as to what it was being changed to such as that mechanical golden rhino being changed into a yellow dump truck. The Dodds scene took away from that unfortunately.
Also, Gabe was really docile in this. in the books, Gabe was a piece of shit who no one felt bad for once he was turned into a statue. Here this man says please and even tries to connect with Percy and it’s really weird. Yeah he’s obviously a deadbeat, but I don’t think this dude deserves to die right now. I hope they remedy this later because I don’t see the necessary hostility we need for later on.
Ep. 2
This was way better. Still some exposition dumping, but it was better paced and more natural. Dionysus is hilarious, great choice of actor and great attitude. Not giving the “I hate children” vibe but still sassy and fun. In my opinion, Grover being the one to figure out that Sally’s mom is still alive takes away from Percy‘s character. In the books, Percy used his knowledge of the Greek myths to figure out what he was going to do in the underworld and why he needed to go there. Here I do like that he was doing so much to figure out who his father was and how he needed more motivation to go on the quest because it makes sense. Also, seeing so much resentment against his dad shows how easy it could’ve been for Percy to turn out the same way, Luke would. on that note, the introduction of Luke, Annabeth, and Clarisse was really what I enjoyed about this episode the most. In the books, Luke is labeled as a friend, but we really don’t see too much genuine friendship there, except for the giftgiving and a few small talks. I like that they have Luke showing Percy around and helping him try to find out his talent instead of Annabeth, because it would really make it seem like they were actual friends, making the betrayal hurt all the more. This works especially well because right now, Luke is one of Percy‘s first and only friends at camp since he is still struggling with Grovers earlier betrayal. Annabeth stalking him was weird, but does kind of make sense for her to observe before making a move. I like that Percy doesn’t go into the water with the fight at the creek with Clarisse and instead it is Annabeth who pushes him in to confirm her suspicions. It makes more sense since the average person will try to stay out of the water in a fight. However, the fact that Percy is able to fight these people off without ever touching the water is weird since right now he doesn’t have any current training, except for his one lucky encounter with the Minotaur. Having said all this, this episode was way better than the first, but there is STILL NO ORACLE? AGAIN? what the heck guys??? the Oracle is technically the most important side character because it is what gives out quests, prophecies, and what Rachel Elizabeth Dare turns into. Right now, just being like “well Percy off to the underworld you go!” makes no sense to me. I hope the oracle makes an appearance in the next episode, otherwise I will be pissed that the Oracle got snubbed AGAIN.
Also, who tf was that dryad with Grover? Was that supposed to be Juniper? Or his mom 💀. If Juniper, shouldn’t she be looking around Grover’s age cuz trees also age slower? Really not sure who this is supposed to be
Overall acting
I am so sorry, but I don’t know if it’s because it’s the first couple of episodes, but there is not good synergy between Sally and Percy 😭 Obviously, each person can have their own opinion so if you like them, that’s great but I felt like I was watching actors read lines and not actually…act? This did not feel like a mother and son duo, same thing with Grover and Percy. the actors got a little better by the end of episode two, but they still don’t have a lot of facial or realistic reactions, especially whenever Percy is being introduced to something that would theoretically completely destroy his worldview. he looks like a blank slate 😭 I’m sure it will get better later on, but sometimes it really took me out of it with how stale the acting was. On that note, so many of the actors did such a good job!
in terms of my favorite to least favorite ones (so far in terms of character portrayal), it is as follows:
Clarisse, Dionysus, Annabeth, Luke, Chiron, Grover, Percy
I really want to emphasize how much I LOVE the actor who plays Clarisse. They did SUCH A GOOD JOB. I was originally a lil hesitant cuz book Clarisse is supposed to be super buff but this was truly 😚👌. Could really feel the scorn and meanness. That scream when her spear is broken? Look of rage to letting Percy go when the game ended? HOLY SHIT, that was some DAMN GOOD ACTING
Obviously, I am being quite harsh here, but I do have high hopes for this series and I’m sure as the actors work more together, they will end up having better chemistry with one another. This is just first impressions so far.

Netflix’s One Day Surprised Me
I just watched the Netflix adaptation of One Day. I was ready to kind of dislike it because I really like the movie version of One Day and I couldn’t help but compare this TV series to the movie while I was watching it. However, the more I watched this show, the more I grew to like it and ended up really liking the decisions that they made to showcase Emma and Dexter’s lives. Also, it is important to note that I have NOT read the book. I have just watched the movie and really liked it. I’m going to end up comparing these two adaptations a bit and telling you guys what eventually made me like this show, so if you’re not interested in that or you haven’t watched the series or the movie, then maybe don’t read this discussion.
Let’s get the stuff I don’t like out of the way. I think the worst parts of this show as a movie adaptation lover is the first two to three episodes. They actually do find their stride in the third episode, but I was just so worried watching the first two episodes that I was wary of the third. My problem with the first two episodes was that it felt like they were stretching their time rather than expanding on these characters’ lives. For example, the first episode of this show was about 10 mins total of the film. In the film, Dex and Emma meet after graduating and they spend the night together just talking all night. Then in the morning, they take a hike and enjoy each other’s company, but we don’t see that until the end of the movie. Those scenes took about less than 10 minutes of the movie but in the show, it took them 36 minutes and I don’t necessarily think those 36 minutes were used that well.
In the show we saw their first day together play out more, which should have been good, but it felt like the more Emma and Dex talked in this series, the more it felt like they were rethreading what they could have conveyed in 10 mins. At some point I asked myself, “What is Dex still doing in this apartment?”. The reason I asked that was because Emma was being rude to him on this first day and I felt like there were a lot of times he wanted to leave but didn’t. It felt like the way the first episode was executed, the only reason why Dex didn’t leave Emma’s apartment was because he was trying to be nice and trying to save face a bit, which isn’t to say that movie Dex wasn’t like that at first, but in the movie we could give Dex the benefit of a doubt more because we just saw a small segment of them talking throughout the night rather than having these long drawn out conversations that seem to almost lead to arguments. The first episode felt like it was giving us so many reasons why these two people wouldn’t talk again after this day because it shows us too much of their wants and personalities clashing in my opinion.
The second episode didn’t help with my worries for this series because they were separated from each other during this episode, so it was harder to gauge their chemistry with one another. All we know is that Emma has been sending letters to Dex regularly and that she was in Dex’s house for Christmas. Also, Dex’s parents seem to like her. However, that’s all things about them that we have been told rather than shown, so it still doesn’t help with how I see these two characters at this point. Although, with that said, the second episode is where I start liking the decisions that they made to expand these characters’ lives. I really liked how we saw more of Dex and his mother in Episode 2. As somebody that knew what was going to happen to Dex’s mother, it was really nice to see this episode show more of Dex and his mother’s relationship. It was nice seeing them interact and seeing Dex make time for his mother; especially, knowing that she passes later on. I also really like how in Emma’s story for this episode, we see her write more and make an active decision to be a writer; because in the movie, we didn’t really see that much of her writing, we are just told that she tried to write but failed. In the movie, it felt like she just becomes a best-selling author immediately rather than because she’s been writing most of her life. The way the movie does it suffices, but I like how the series expands on that aspect of her life.
What I was worried about with these first few episodes is that this series was going to just stretch these moments in these characters’ lives without making the necessary developments for their characters. However, after sticking with it, I ended up really liking a lot of the decisions the show made, so with the stuff I don’t like out of the way, let’s move on to what I really liked.
I really liked that we saw more of the extended cast in this series because they ended up bringing more to these two characters’ lives. I always felt like in the movie, they were hyper focused on Emma and Dexter’s lives that there was no room for characters like Tilly, who we only saw a bit in the movie. Tilly, in the series, is Emma’s shoulder to cry on. She is the one true friend that Emma has. She also becomes someone that supports Dexter after Emma dies, so that he won’t have to feel so alone anymore. In the movie, after Emma dies Dex just felt so alone which was really heartbreaking. However, in this series, we do see him alone, but we also get to see that there are so many people that are willing to help and support him after those times of loneliness. We see more of how his father is more present in his life after Emma’s death as well, which I really liked.
With Ian, I like how we get to see more of how much Emma was so unhappy because of him, so that when she finally finds some success in her life, it feels like this massive cathartic experience because we saw how her life was with him. We also saw more of how much Ian despised Dexter throughout the whole time he was with Emma, so when he goes out of his way to visit Dexter after Emma passes, it puts more weight on his actions. He went out of his way to cheer someone up that he did not like at all.
Speaking of Emma, I like how we see that she’s not all that perfect in this series. She literally helps a man cheat with their wife in this series and she was pretty well aware of that. She started sinking more to the bottom until she found success in her books after some encouragement from Ian that her writing was good. Like I said before, I really liked how we saw her write more in this series, so when she finds success in her writing, it doesn’t feel like it comes out of nowhere. We actually see her fail a few times with her writing and fail a few times in her career before we ever see any of her success, which I feel like the show is trying to show how her success is earned because of all of her hard work.
I how we saw more of how Dexter dealt with his mother’s illness, which is to say that he did not deal with his mother’s illness at all. In fact, he took comfort in drugs and missed so much of his mother’s last days. He just didn’t feel at all comfortable seeing his mother like that. He couldn’t even be in her bedroom with her because he felt sick smelling the room she was in and seeing her in this awful state. I loved how we saw more of his relationship with his father and showed more of how angry his father was with him; especially since, he was being a fuck up on his mother’s last days. In Dexter’s father’s eyes, Dexter was ruining the last days of the woman that he loves, so he was properly angry at him. The scene where his father drops him off at the station and he yells at him because he couldn’t be sober while with his mother is such a powerful scene.
I like how we end up seeing more of Dexter spiraling down into heavy drug use because of how his career is going and because of his mother’s death. We saw how his chosen career built him up to be this very important person and any time something contradicted that, he would turn to drug use. We see how that affected his personal relationships. Specifically, his relationship with Emma. The restaurant episode was really well done. You can just tell how much of a pretentious prick he was being in that episode and how that would form a schism with him and Emma.
I also like the fact that we spend so much more time with Dex after Emma dies and that we see him being such a wreck during July 15 [St Swithin’s Day (aka Emma and Dexter’s Day)]. I like how we even get moments where Sylvie is helping out Dex and being worried for him. She’s just not this awful person that cheated on him, but someone that genuinely cared for him at some point.
All in all, I really liked this series. Especially towards the end. It surprised me how much I liked it because I really loved the movie adaptation of this story. However, I would probably watch the movie more than this series because even though I liked the series towards the end, I felt like a lot of the stuff they expanded on were just okay; they were more like bonus material for me. I also still felt in certain episodes that their expanding of this story, felt more like stretching rather than expanding on it in a meaningful way. I also would have happily cut a lot of episodes in this series, if it meant that we got to see more minutes of Emma and Dex being happy in the last few episodes. I really would have loved to have seen more moments of them being happy; especially because this show has got a lot of time to do that with unlike in the movie.
Yes, I know the movie is very hyper focused on Emma and Dexter’s lives but I think that hyper focused approach really help give weight to their romance and the tragedy of their romance towards the end. Also, by hyper-focusing on these two, we end up getting a more intimate outlook on them in my opinion. Sometimes, while watching the movie, it felt like I was a passerby getting glimpses of these people’s lives. I don’t necessarily know all of their story, but the stuff that I did see made me want them to be together more. The film is short and bittersweet, and I like it that way. Does that mean the show is bad? Hell NO. I think every actor in here is giving an amazing performance and the parts of the story that they expanded on are wonderful.  I just have a preference, that’s all. I’m sure that if you’ve watched the series first then you probably prefer the series over the movie. Same goes with reading the novel, I’m sure that a lot of people prefer that version over the film and the series. I think it’s just a matter of what you experienced first, and I watched the movie first so it’s the definitive version for me. However, I would urge everyone that watched the movie or even read the book to watch the series. I really enjoyed it.
Nitpicks:
Here are just some nitpicks that I have for the show. They don’t necessarily affect my viewing of the series just that it slightly bothered me. Also these nitpicks do not matter at all and should not be taken too seriously. Just nitpicks I thought I'd share.
First, I think everybody in here looks way too young that when they started getting older, I just couldn’t buy they got old as much. Specifically with Dex, I just felt that he looks so young even towards the end. As for Emma, she does start looking more mature after the years they stopped talking. Maybe it's just that I tend to view people my age as babies? I dont really know. I think it's also because Dexter in the movie version ends up looking so old and I'm still comparing the two.
Second, they took out the line “I love you Dexter… so much… I just don’t like you anymore” I just like that line. I told you guys these were nitpicks.
Lastly, I wish they used “We had Today” by Rachel Portman in this series. It’s the theme music for the movie and I would have loved to hear it in this version. I just felt like it’s a wonderful piece of music that deserves to be heard more.
Here’s a link to the song on YouTube: We Had Today by Rachel Portman
If you’re reading this then I’d love to know what you think of the series. If you’ve read the book or watched the movie. I would really love to know what you thought of it. Was I being too harsh on this series? What did you agree with me on and what points did you not agree with me on? Anyways, thanks for reading this. Have a good day!

A Fizziepop Take: Let's talk about the (soon to be) ex-wife from hell
Tumblr media
I’m not sure about everyone, but I personally have always loved villains and morally gray characters. Maybe it’s because I grew up in a lot of fucked up situations where no one was every really the “good guy”, not even the people I loved and trusted…. So I learned early on that bad guys aren’t always bad and even when they are, being bad isn’t always as bad as it seemed to be made out by everything on tv and in books. Having this way of thinking from a young age, it’s no surprise that some of my favorite characters in books and movies tend to be the villains. Now, as much as I love Stolas (and want his relationship with Blitz to work), I’ve kinda into Stella on this ‘I want my husband dead’ trip, and after watching “Western Energy” a few times, I think I figured out why and I can’t be the only one who feels like this, so let’s get into it!.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you know how most villains are written and portrayed, a lot of them have some sort of reason for doing whatever fucked up thing they're doing. Sometimes the excuse is a tragic backstory, or an unrequited love, or a fear that they just don’t seem to deal with very well, or to gain power over another being/beings or even keep power they already have, in some cases mental illness is even villainized in the media (which sucks since it’s not always portrayed in a realistic manner when it’s used as a reason for someone being "villainous" and ends up stigmatizing an entire group of people who suffer from the illness in ways that aren’t dramatized for the entertainment of the masses.).... But all of these reasons tend to be on the list of the reasons the villain, and the audience, try to justify whatever messed up shit they’re doing…. But here’s the thing, sometimes a person doesn’t have a reason to be an absolute fucked up beyond repair, horrible person, they just like being that way. That’s what we see with Stella.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
See, Stella doesn’t have a horrible tragic past to blame her cruelty on. Stolas never abused her, if anything he did his best to try to make their marriage work despite the abuse she put him through for what seems to be the entirety of their relationship. And it seems she’s never even had to smell poverty or what fear would smell like when it’s her own. As of right now, there is no reason for her cruelty that we can see except for pure enjoyment, with her even at one point telling Stolas "I like tormenting you!" when asked why she's still in his house despite having moved out pretty much completely at that point. She enjoys making Stolas’ life miserable and she hates the man enough that she tells her brother that she’d laugh when he dies and even has to be convinced to keep him alive to figure out how to get money from him since she’d likely get nothing when he dies. The woman has no regard for anyone’s life but hers unless she’s making someone else feel beyond miserable.... And, as much as I love Stolas, I love the cruelty Stella processes and how she seems to aim it all toward him, especially because she doesn’t in anyway try to hide the fact that she’s an evil bitch and she doesn't even try to. Whether she’s telling her husband that she likes making him miserable or badmouthing him to friends and family with him standing a few feet away, or even giddily admitting to her brother that she’s hired the assassin that kidnapped and off her husband, the woman has zero shame and as easy as it is to dislike her for actively hurting a fan favorite character, the sheer size of Stella’s metaphorical balls makes me love her. Despite being a ditzy, bitchy ex-wife and a bad mother from what most of us believe, and her literally torturing one of my favorite characters for sheer pleasure, Stella has earned a spot as one of my favorite villains, and moved up in the ranking of my favorite Helluva Boss antagonists.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The woman is a horrible, cold hearted, monster on the levels she’s been placed on within the show and it's literally shown that it's been that way since she was a child…. And I think that’s what makes her such a good character despite her being written very flatly otherwise. Viv made Stella a character that’s so easy to love to hate, which is something I believe every show needs. I think that’s awesome considering so many people still think that a villain needs to be made; forged in tragedy, warped by trauma, and bathed in fear and heartbreak when in reality, cruelty isn’t always something people are gifted through bad experiences. As much as we hate to admit it, some people just enjoy the way cruelty tastes and hate the way happiness looks on someone who isn’t them. Stella is a wonderful example of a villain who chose to be the way they are just because they find amusement in it. Nothing else. And call me crazy, but I love that for her and I want to see more scenes like in “Western Energy” where you can see that she knows what she’s doing isn’t just cruel, but villainous and she enjoys it. But like every post I make ranting and over analyzing the fictional world of imps and hellhounds and all of this, this is just a Fizzie take on things I probably spend too much time thinking about. But let me know what you think about Stella, and villains in general. It’s always a topic I’m down to see different perspectives and opinions on.

4.5/5 stars
I was scared to read this book as I feared being disappointed by its aro-ace representation. The books that have both Aro and Ace represented in them are rare to find, and it is even harder to know if the representation will be accurate. Overall, I was not disappointed by how they were represented in this book. I was really able to relate to Georgia and her messy journey to self-discovery.
This book did a great job of portraying friendship as being just as important as love. Although Georgia, Sunil, Jason, Rooney, and Pip had very different backgrounds and struggles, they still didn't manage to overshadow each other. Throughout the book, we do focus more on Georgia, and we see how she explores her identity. From confusion to self-acceptance, this book was an emotional rollercoaster.
We start the book with Georgia being hopeful of finding love. This is best represented by:
I loved romance. Always had. I loved Disney. I loved fanfiction. I loved thinking about what my own wedding would be like. I just. Loved. Love.
As someone who grew up watching Disney movies and reading fanfiction, it was very easy for me to understand why Georgia had these expectations and why she put herself in situations in which she felt awkward and uncomfortable. Spoiler: Although it's easy to dislike her for using Jason as a way to get experience, you can still understand that she was genuinely trying to fall in love. Conflicts could have been avoided with her friends if they had talked it out. Pip's anger was understandable, but she could have been more mature about the problem. It was a bit convenient to have a cousin who is an ace/aro, but it worked out.
The realization about how heteronormativity affected her really hit home in my case. I could relate to a lot of her thoughts, from being scared of ending up alone to realizing I only know about love in theory.
In the end, that was the problem with romance. It was so easy to romanticize romance because it was everywhere. It was in music and on TV and in filtered Instagram photos. It was in the air, crisp and alive with fresh possibility. It was in falling leaves, crumbling wooden doorways, scuffed cobblestones, and fields of dandelions. It was in the touch of hands, scrawled letters, crumpled sheets, and the golden hour. A soft yawn, early morning laughter, shoes lined up together by the door. Eyes across a dance floor. I could see it all, all the time, all around, but when I got closer, I found nothing was there. A mirage
Overall, this is what made me rate it 4 stars. Even if you aren't an aro or ace, you can still resonate with this book. Anyone who hasn't found their label yet or is still trying to figure out their sexuality should read this book. This book goes over the process of what it feels like to try and figure out one's identity. It shows how helpful it can be to figure out who you are.

Besides KaBlam!, what are some other media (movies, TV shows, etc.) that you used to like, but have since grown to dislike/hate/have mixed feelings about?
Bratz in general. There are some great outfits (and really high quality!) and I love how diverse the lineup is, but a lot of the messages in it were just so shallow and materialistic. Fun as a tongue-in-cheek thing I guess, concerning when you're pushing a "looks are everything! Spend all your money on expensive clothes and makeup!" to eight-year-olds (I had some Bratz activity books at that age that included....makeup and boy tips. Most kids that age aren't wearing makeup. Or dating!). I also remember being disappointed that the tie-in material didn't do that much with the girls' personalities, and made them increasingly stereotypical as time went on (Cloe, the blonde one, was originally the artsy one. Somewhere down the line they threw that out and made her "the dumb one"). As for all the "too sexual/revealing" complaint about the dolls and their outfits....yeah, that for the most part is overblown. I actually love most of them, and ESPECIALLY the first ones- you didn't see a lot of hip hop-influenced doll fashions before then (2001). Though I will admit SOME lines in the mid-2000s were pushing it, but not out of "not appropriate for kids to see" and just more "uh....these characters are minors canonically". The only time it was REALLY gross was Bratz Babyz. They had the baby versions of the characters in makeup, fishnets, skimpy outfits, etc....it made them look like pageant kids, and they were only about a year old in this line.
And the cartoon was awful. Amazing voice acting, though. And the music is legitimately really good on its own. But not only is the CGI awful even by 2005 standards, but the characters were just so shallow and unlikeable. The girls didn't gave much to them besides fashion. You'd sometimes get a hint of something more from Yasmin or Sasha, but it never lasted. And for all their "you're beautiful the way you are" preaching, if you dressed a little more unconventionally or worse glasses, you'd be in line for a "makeover" to make you more like them. The antagonists were a lot more fun to watch, and even as a 10 year old I would prefer them. That being said while the cartoon is so bad it's good...the live-action movie is horrible. Cliche, annoying, and actually pretty racist.
I definitely think in the right hands, you can make this franchise work better. You can keep the fashion and beauty focus WHILE giving the characters their own aspirations and goals beyond that. But further revival attempts in the 2010s could never get it right, which is why it's cemented as a 2000s nostalgia product and nothing else.

4, 11 (Frostiron and Winteriron), 17 (Loki), 22 (Tony Stark), 25 (Bucky Barnes)
4. Is there a popular pairing you don't necessarily dislike but aren't too invested in?
Not that I can think of. There are a lot I dislike and I won't invest any time in and go so far as to block the ship name and any variants so I don't have to see art or headcanons, etc, about it. So if it's not blocked and I see it and I think the art is cool I guess that means I don't dislike it? I often share it even if it's a ship I don't necessarily involve myself in. Like I don't write for SamBucky or SamTasha, or Stony (although I've apparently blocked Stony, tho I'm not sure when that happened lol), but if I see cool art I'll share it. But yeah....there's a lot I avoid by all means.
11. What's your favorite piece of fanart?
OMG HOW CAN YOU MAKE ME CHOOSE?! I literally have more than 600 pix of fanart for FrostIron -- some made specifically for me -- and 134 of WinterFrost. Anything by @batwynn and lightonlight I love. And you'll probably laugh but this is one of my favorites for FrostIron.
Tumblr media
As for WinterFrost...I seem to have made a lot more edits for this ship than any other LOL. But millennium-h always did the BEST edits for WF, including making those pix of Hiddles kissing someone on the rocks MUCH BETTER (sadly, they left the fandom not too long ago). And like with FI, I have a lot of faves, but this is one I really enjoyed.
Tumblr media
and one to go along with it
Tumblr media
17. What's a book, movie, or show you think [Loki] would like?
I think it's obvious that Loki would be all over Shakespeare and any adaptation of his works. And he'd probably critique it better than Shakespearean scholars themselves. But I think that mischievous and love of chaos side of him would probably also be really into trash reality TV. Like the Real Housewives franchise. He'd have watch parties and hours-long discussions afterwards and everyone would be shocked by how accurate his psychoanalysis is. Because if there's anything people who are used to being overlooked and ignored can do it's read other people's emotions.
22. Give us a headcanon for [Tony Stark].
Aw man. I'm terrible at headcanons! I don't even know, man. Maybe that despite all his bravado (or overconfidence to cover for his insecurity) and need to prove himself to Howard, there's still enough of Maria in him that emerges in his tendency to take "lost" souls under his wing, not even to mentor but to give them a hand? Happy (loss of his boxing career, so he gave him a job), Peter, obvs, and even Steve, who he reluctantly helped bc y'know resentment. I say that's Maria bc considering how difficult Howard as a person was, who the fuck else could see anything redeeming enough to marry and have a child with him? She had to see something under the surface, yeah?
Idk. Told you I don't do headcanons. LOL
25. What's your least favorite thing [Bucky Barnes] said or did?
Killed Tony's parents??? IDK, there isn't much I dislike about Bucky, except that they didn't let him kiss Steve! I'm honestly just glad they never included that relationship from the comic in the movies bc I despise that actress and it would've bothered me to watch her shitty flirt-acting and whatever with Sebastian. It was bad enough with Fluffalo. Ick.
Thanks for asking!!

Hi....If you don't mind, can I ask, what are your top 10 (or top 7) favorite media (can be books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series)? Why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before......Thanks....
Ooooof this is such a hard question!! Thank you for the ask, I love this kinda stuff!!
Without further ado, and in no particular order, here they are!
1. Any of MXTX’s content (I’m counting them as one because I love too many things 😭): For me, these novels and adaptations were my first foray into danmei and Chinese media. I also discovered them at a time when I was questioning my identity and coming to terms with the fact I’m queer (which is…not really accepted in my family). I watched The Untamed first, then read fan translations of the novels before they started being officially translated, and I keep coming back to them because I find them so thought provoking. I like that none of the characters are presented as perfect people; they’re all flawed humans, but we love them anyway.
2. Sleuth of the Ming Dynasty: found family, Sherlock Holmes-like detective skills, spies, political machinations, food as a form of love? What more could I ask for! I just love this show. Haven’t gotten to read the novel it’s based on yet, but I’m hoping to soon!
3. Yuri on Ice: one of the first anime I ever watched, and it’s just so sweet and lovely. Definitely one of my comfort shows! Plus there are some crazy good fics. Still hoping one day we’ll get the movie!
4. Harry Potter: I struggle with this one a lot, because I very much dislike JKR’s transphobic rhetoric. But the fan spaces of Harry Potter provided me with support and escape I needed many times throughout my life, and for that the fandom of Harry Potter will always hold a special place in my heart. It’s been a part of my life nearly as long as I can remember.
5. Thousand Autumns: another one with some very morally grey characters! I love thinking about who and what is right and wrong, and this novel definitely makes you think about it. Lots of political world building as well, which I love.
6. My Cousin Vinny: a fantastic movie that I have many fond memories about. The jokes and digs about the south vs the north in the US always make me laugh, and as someone who has lived many years in both of those areas, those scenes make me giggle.
7. Haikyuu!: another one of my comfort shows! It’s just happy and fun and adorable. I love this one. I watched it sooooo many times during lockdown.
8. BBC Merlin: was morgana my bi awakening? I shan’t tell! Suchhh a good show, I miss it so much. Another fandom that has some incredibleeeee fanfics. Y’all writers are so talented.
9. Our Flag Means Death: I think this was maybe my first piece of media that explicitly included multiple queer characters but the entire storyline wasn’t only about the otherness and pain of being queer (or just a stereotyped role). This show made me feel seen in ways no other media had before. Plus, the show is gay pirates. It doesn’t get much better than that!
10. Avatar the Last Airbender: me and my siblings all loved this show, and we still watch it together often whenever we’re together. It’s so good. Zuko’s character development is still quite possibly the best redemption arc I’ve seen. I love it.
Phew. It was so hard to choose 10! I’m glad you didn’t ask me to pick one because I’m afraid that would’ve been impossible for me! What are your favorites???
💚

ok here's a slightly meaner sequel to my tiktokification essay i suppose
the thing is i think i'm puzzling this out and i think it's like. the thinking goes:
this fic is popular -> everyone is saying good things about it on the internet -> but i didn't like the fic -> i need to tell people the reasons why i didn't like it so that they can make an informed decision before deciding whether to read, because otherwise they will automatically assume the fic is really good when i think it's not good
and this type of thinking demonstrates a few key things to me.
the fundamental misunderstanding that fanfiction is a unique form of media unlike books, movies, tv shows, or anything else created within a profit economy
an underdeveloped ability for independent critical thought. like...if you are concerned that anyone seeing something get popular on the internet will automatically assume it's good the main thing that tells me is that YOU don't engage critically with media and essentially believe whatever you see on the internet, which is probably why you were so surprised when you went to read something a lot of people liked and discovered that you don't like it.
a staggering lack of self-awareness and an overabundance of entitlement. fanfic writers aren't writing for an audience. they are writing first and foremost for themselves, and maybe also for their friends and communities. they are definitely not writing for you, which means it doesn't fucking matter whether you like it or not.
and it really just boggles my mind to see people act as though they are protecting others or doing them a favor by "warning" about how much they dislike a fic, because it's like...you are not saving anyone money by telling them not to read a fic. you are not protecting them from triggering content, because (assuming that a fic is tagged correctly) people can read the fucking tags and make their own decisions about what they do or do not want to read. and people can open a fic, decide they don't like it for literally any reason, and then close it and move on. so who are you helping???? who????
and this sort of logic that operates under the assumption that it is somehow morally correct to "help" people make "informed decisions" also contributes to this weird moralization of a lot of little things that just boil down to you not liking a certain characterization or decision an author made. like -- key example is people going "oh wolfstar in atyd is toxic." like...by nebulously defining something as "toxic," you get the moral high ground of acting like you are warning people about something morally Bad, when in reality you just don't have very good media literacy. i've also seen this with people throwing around the words "problematic" and "fetishization" without explaining what they're actually talking about--essentially just using buzzwords to give their opinions an air of moral superiority and make it seem like they are doing anything aside from just being hateful to writers who literally never wanted them to read their writing in the first place. so.

Can I ask what you think of people wanting to change percy Jackson's ethnicity for the tv series ?
Okay so this ask is very old and was sent before the casting news came out (sorry for taking forever to answer), but since Annabeth, Grover, and a few other characters were racebent for the series I think it's still relevant enough to answer. I have lots of complicated thoughts on racebending in general, mostly for two reasons:
It's often used in superhero-based media specifically as an excuse for companies to engage in erasure by omission while still getting credit for "increasing diversity": why bother using Cassandra Cain or Duke Thomas when you can simply cast a black woman to play Barbara Gordon and a biracial Black/Asian kid to play Tim Drake (but refuse to do any creative work to engage with how Babs' and Tim's lived experiences and crimefighting perspectives might be different if they weren't white), for example.
It's also often a signal that a company simply does not care enough about the character to ensure they look visually similar to how the source material depicts them; it's also why I heavily dislike whitewashing, because (besides whitewashing being a lovely example of Hollywood's racism) a lack of care regarding visual appearance in adapted media is often an early warning sign that the adaptation is going to have a lack of care for the source material in general, just like Brunette!Annabeth in the Percy Jackson movie was an early warning sign that the movie was going to be a truly terrible adaptation of the PJO books (basically, "if you can't even bother to make her blonde, what else don't you care about getting right?")
However, I don't inherently have a problem with racebending when it's in tune with the intention of the source material and thought/care is put into how an adapted character being a different race than that character is canonically depicted might change their lived experiences and perspective on life. Given that, there's a few reasons why I don't have much of a problem with the racebending in the Percy Jackson show:
One, Rick Riordan is heavily involved in the creation of the show this time around. I'm not particularly worried that the characters' visual appearances not closely matching their canonical appearances is an indication that we're going to get another terrible adaptation, because Riordan was involved in the writing and casting process; it's clear this isn't just an empty corporate choice to gain brownie points with the progressive crowd, but is actually because the creative team felt like they were the best actors for the job.
Two, it's in the spirit of Riordan's intentions when writing the books, which was always to give under-represented groups stories that showcased them in heroic, protagonist-level roles. He wrote the PJO series for his son, who had ADHD and dyslexia, and in every subsequent post-PJO series he's made a notable and purposeful effort to increase positive representation of various under-represented and marginalized groups by including them in his stories (whether he's been successful is a different question, but that's a topic for another time). So I don't feel particularly uncomfortable with a character being racebent, because if Rick were writing PJO today I think most of us can agree the books probably would have been quite a bit more racially diverse than they are.
Three, the characters who've been racebent are either characters whose arcs and struggles can be updated for social relevance if they're racebent or are characters whose race doesn't matter (and are thus an example of "well...if it doesn't matter, why not?").
Annabeth, for example, has a minor subplot in the early books about being percieved as a "dumb blonde." This stereotype is outdated and somewhat incomprehensible for a 2022 audience who weren't middle schoolers in 2005 when Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan were running around, dumb blonde jokes were a dime a dozen, and Hollywood was putting out movies like Legally Blonde as a direct critique of that stereotype. It's simply not a salient cultural issue anymore.
But in the spirit of that subplot, Annabeth being a black girl who has to deal with and defy stereotypes about black girls being smart (of which there are many) is a lovely update that speaks to current issues without actually changing anything about Annabeth: she still has a subtle chip on her shoulder because she feels pressure to defy stereotypes relating to intelligence. It just comes from a different place now. So casting a black girl is actually lowkey a brilliant decision, even if I still hope they'll make her blonde.
For Grover, it makes no difference either way. Yes, he's canonically white in the books, but visually race has no impact on him because he's a satyr; canonically, his hooves and horns pose the biggest issue for him when he's trying to blend into the human world and do his job. His life doesn't really change in any way if he's a different race; as long as he remains identifiably Grover, it makes no difference whether a white boy or a black boy or a desi boy plays him.
tl;dr: "I have a lot of complicated feelings on racebending in general and in most circumstances, I really urge creators to either create new characters or find ways to effectively utilize existing diverse character slates. However, in the case of Percy Jackson I have no real problem with it because it's in the spirit of the original work, isn't a reflection of a studio's lack of regard or care for accurately adapting the source material, helps keep the social commentary embedded in said source material up-to-date, and is clearly a creator-led decision rather than a corporate marketing decision."
