Theres another part to the conversation in the racism of calling Native American spirits "cryptids" that has to do with this idea of underestimating the intelligence of Native people & how we understood our land & ecosystems & devaluing that, because very often you hear this talking point from cryptozooologists say something like "x cryptid exists, but the Native Americans have a near exact spirit in their culture, could they have mistaken it for a spirit?": this premise doesn't acknowledge that most "cryptids" in the Americas are appropriated Native spirits, but instead proposes that these "cryptids" existed FIRST, are possibly now exitinct, and that Native Americans simply weren't "intelligent" or "advanced" enough to understand that it was a real animal & instead had "mistaken" it for a spirit of some kind & gave it that name.

This is also a complete misunderstanding of multiple Native spirits & spirituality & shows the ignorance of it because sometimes it just doesn't work this way, and #2, again underestimates & devalues Indigenous knowledge on science and biogeography. Like, we knew our animals and plants. We knew how & where to find them & what time of year they mated & what they ate & how best to utilize them while remaining in harmony with them, but you don't think we would have knowledge on these "cryptids" if they were actually "cryptids"? (Because again, the definition of a cryptid is an animal that may or may not biologically exist in the world, and may or may not be extinct, and there's little proof on their existence, but has gained notoriety because of tall tales surrounding their existence. A spirit is not that, & is religious.)

Like in many religions, there's a separation from the physical & spiritual/supernatural where the spiritual won't have a physical form, which is why theyre called spirits. If there was an animal that existed in our lands that we physically interacted with then we would have told you. White people still don't believe Native American oral history that we had horses in North America that went extinct, pre-Spanish reintroduction of them, but ironically cryptozooologists & nerds also still won't believe us when we say "bigfoot" isn't a "cryptid" but instead a spirit. Bruce had never had an experience like this before, letters of ransom from any of his rogues? Certainly! But the Goonion only ever left messages when they were paying bail for their own, and he was becoming worried as to why Jason’s Goons had posted a message to him via The Goonion.

“To Batman of Gotham, New Jersey, United States of America, We would like to have a word with you in regards to a pair of Meta Adjacent individuals we would like to harbor here in Gotham, we are only extending the courtesy to you regarding them due to the fact that the United States Government refuses to acknowledge them as people due to their conditions, the Boss said he would tell you himself, if he has not already he likely will soon. Suffice to say a family of three is coming to Gotham as their last chance at a safe harbor and we would prefer it if you did not get on their cases. We hope to receive your response without any broken bones, The Goonion, Gotham, New Jersey Branch.” Tim was staring at the paper, the stationary of The Goonion, with confusion, Dick, Barbara, Cass, and Stephany seemed rather accepting of it, and Damian was confused. 

“What is this, Goonion?” His youngest asked, staring at the paper as Bruce read over the return address, the Iceberg Lounge, a server named Thomas. 

“Ah, we haven’t told you about them yet have we?” Dick began, sitting back. “They’re nice folks, help get the Goons payed and are usually the ones to put their feet down when Rogues get outta hand for normal folks, for instance, the Joker does not have the stamp of approval for, many reasons. But primarily it’s due to his former Henchmen, including Harley, snitching on him to the Goonion.” Dick typed something into his phone, Damian’s own device pinging in his pocket, likely more info. “The Goonion has an odd relationship with us, we don’t go after them and they try to keep things regulated, Jason could probably tell you more, and it seems from the letter we do have to talk to him.” The door to the cave opened, and while Bruce looked up to see his second son come walking down the steps he seemed, tired, run down even.

“The Goonion already got to you? Good on them.” Jason huffed as he sat next to Damian, ruffling the boy’s head much to his exasperation and attempted swatting. “Situations fucked, the letter doesn’t even touch on the bigger parts but it gets, real fucky like, possibly gonna want to get Uncle Clark and Aunt Diana in on it fucky, definitely Constantine as well.” Well Bruce knew his flags rather well and if Jason was advocating for not only a League intervention but one headed by John Constantine? Bruce decided to address the original topic first. 

“They can stay, but they will have to answer questions.” Jason huffed and leaned back. 

“Ground rules then, the two younger kids? Meta Adjacent? They have a similar situation to me, and it turns out Ra’s is playing with not even a tenth of a full puzzle with the Lazarus Pit.” Everyone around the table stiffened, save Alfred who had come in behind Jason with a tea service, as Jason took a sip from the mug placed before him and nodding to Alfred. “Thank you. The details are spotty but the abridged form is this, the Lazarus pit is the remains of a bunch of people from a dimension to which we all go when we die, the residents therein call it the Infinite Realms since it services everyone that means every Person who has a faith or doesn’t has a place there. Furthermore these three’s parents who passed recently in a Government Sanctioned raid made a Portal to the Infinite Realms, and Lazarus Water? Corrupted, dirty, a literally soul eroding form of what makes up matter on that end of the divide, Ectoplasm.” Jason withdrew a vial from his pocket, a bright green and sluggish substances was held within. “This is pure ectoplasm, The Parents, a pair known as Doctors Jack and Madeline Fenton, introduced me to a Doctor from the Infinite Realms, suffice to say I am feeling much less angry and far more at peace with things, though apparently being angry is normal for the type of “Dead but Brought Back” I am.” Jason placed the vial on the table and slowly pushed it to Bruce, taking his hand back when he reached for it.

“Jazz, the eldest, is a student at Gotham University, or she is now, identities and the like will be handled later but for the younger two it’s time for some non starters, because apparenlty if you ask an Ecto Entity or anyone touched by the Infinite Realms how they died it sets off a “I Must Kill You Now” trigger in their head, essentially forcing them to suffer their deaths all over again until they deal with who or whatever asked the question, so no being a little nosey punk about it Tim.” Tim jolted at his name being said instead of Jason’s nickname for him but he nodded when he realized that his elder brother hadn’t looked away from him. Bruce was still proud the two had started to mend things so well, but as he stared at the vial a question swirled in his mind.

“Why did the Goonion send a letter then?” Jason stiffened slightly and rubbed the back of his neck.

“Alrighty, so you know how I’ve been going to College classes since a year ago? I met Jazz at one of them, as Jason Todd, son of Bruce Wayne and card carrying member of Red Hood’s Goonion. This was, sometime around Spring Semester, soooooo” Steph lunged up, mouth open with a squeak until Cass pulled her back down. Jason sighed and continued. “We started dating last year, she wants to be a psychiatrist and maay have started working for The Goonion in Star City when one of their guys ended up on her mentor’s patient bench. Her academics are already transferred to Gotham U but she’s still looking for a new Mentor.” Bruce made an affirmative noise at that, encouraging, Jason was holding something back, the younger siblings hadn’t been named yet. “The Goonion hired her former mentor and Jazz followed them in since they have really good benefits, and she has experience with the whole Capes and Crooks thing already. Though she told me she would rather she and her siblings explain that.” 

So, Jasmine Fenton, after being a student for at least a year in Psychiatry, became a Goonion Psychiatrist, and then when her Parents died she takes her younger siblings, one of whom is rather recently adopted into the family by the looks of it, and flees her hometown, one Amity Park Illinois, which has a disturbingly blank file in the League databanks. “Yeah,” Jason began, looking over at the Batcomputer, scanning the total lack of data from two year ago on. “The Government locked their hometown down quick, they have a branch called the Ghost Investigation Ward, who managed to get a law in before our current Shining Dome of a President, was sworn in, apparenlty old Lex has been trying to rip that law to shredds since he found out about it and there’s something akin to a coup attempt going on from the GIW towards Lex. I looked into those guys already, I think it would be wiser to side with the current President and not a bunch of Loons who would dissect Uncle Clark and his kids if they got the chance.” Damian jerked slightly, turning to face Jason.

“What?” 

“Yeah, Krypton is dead it’s a dead world, by some of the smaller parts of the Anti-Ecto Acts that means that all Kryptonians are ecto-beings and by that law have no sentience, and are just emotions imprinted on ectoplasm, given the fact I died once they would pick me up as well in a heartbeat, for “disposal” as they call it.” The room had become Still, Dick seemed furious, staring at the damning lack of info alongside a pale Tim, Damian who was still staring at Jason realized just why his brother had looked back to him and was also looking at Cass, they had been brought back by the pit, they were by Federal Law non-sentient. Bruce felt the arms of his chair bend slightly under his grip before breathing out his frustration. 

“You have a plan?” Jason nodded, he seemed to be expecting worse, you really didn’t give him a reason not to, and began speaking.

“The Goonion will be dealing with protecting people who fall under the acts, we just need the JL to take this problem and light it on fire, drag it into the public eye and raid a few of the GIW’s bases that may have people, both from our side and theirs, in captivity. I will be going tonight to get Jazz and her Siblings from a bolt hole of theirs, an Aunt in Arkansas whose bound to be investigated is hiding them, I just need to borrow something.” Bruce allowed an eyebrow to climb up his forehead, he wants to borrow the Batplane for it.

“I’ll allow it, go and get them once it starts to become dark out, I’ll expect you back by dawn, do you have a place set up?” Jason blinked at him before nodding. 

“Yeah, one of the safer corners of Crime Alley, closest part to Gotham University, three bedrooms, two bath, someone maaay have helped me pick it out.” Bruce nodded, he would get nowhere in trying to guess which of his other children, Alfred, or any of Jason’s friends, or even some of their own collectively reformed Rogues could have helped Jason in this, but suffice to say it was a safe harbor and one backed by some rather tough figures. The Goonion alone would give anyone trouble, but with them being in Crime Alley that meant that they were essentially in an invaders nightmare. Dead ends, construction, dilapidated or abandoned buildings, it was a natural ambush site. Jason then put a box on the table, it was a scanner of some sort. 

“One of the reasons they’re coming here is this,” he flipped a switch and the machine began to frantically beep, practically sounding a long tone before Jason flipped it off again, “Gotham sits on a similar point to Amity Park, and as such we are LOADED with ambient ectoplasm, constantly stirred up by magic based curses of one sort or another it essentially blinds ectoplasmic tracking devices.” Bruce nodded, accepting the device as it was pushed down the table to him. “Jazz had apparently decided that they would run to Gotham if things went sideways like this anyways, we’re the closest ambiently effected city to Amity not ringed by GIW outposts and scanners.” Bruce paused in his observing of the machine, the GIW had surrounded other cities that had high ambient ectoplasm?

“Where?” Jason pulled out a small notepad.

“Well, Jazz wouldn’t tell us, but the Goonion has it’s ways, The GIW has encircled the following cities, Salem, Boston, and Springfield of Massachusetts, New Orleans, New York, Philadelphia and Gettysburg of Pennsylvania, Chicago Illinois, Savanah Georgia, D.C., and then San Francisco and San Antonio of California and Texas respectively, I asked for this list at 6 this morning, I was handed this current version at Noon, these were just the overt ones. Metropolis, Bludhaven, and Gotham, are currently not surrounded, there are locations between them but not many.” Bruce stood, watching as addresses were placed on the table, each assigned a sticky note and details. 

“You should get ready to go get Jazz and her siblings, we’ll deal with this.” Bruce tapped on the sticky note closest to him. Jason nodded and stood, following Alfred out of the Batcave as Bruce looked to the rest of his family. “We have targets, we have details, Tim, dig up what you can on the GIW, Damian, Dick, Cass, Stephanie, your with me, we’re going to raid as many of these places as we can tonight, Barbara,”

“I’ve got comms, got it.” She interrupted, rolling over to the Bat computer and preparing for daylight operations 

I do think about this whole sequence more frequently than what's good for me.

If Bucky (and the Howlies) weren't yet burned out by the war, I wonder if that was the moment Bucky became completely disillusioned and also deeply conflicted. In the bowels of the Hydra facility, no doubt one of the things that's kept prisoners going was the hope that their allies would come rescue them. That's part of the reason why Bucky was still doggedly repeating his number after days of torture.

But their allies had no plans to rescue them. They were meaningless numbers lost in the service of their country. The one person who did come was the person Bucky never wanted to see in the midst of war, and - while he wasn't surprised Steve chose to come - they had refused to give Steve any help for the mission. There were many ways Steve could have died on the way to Bucky's cell. There were many ways Steve could have had a fate worse than death, and Bucky already knows of fates worse than death.

Was Bucky angry or indignant? You can see the way he's tensing as Steve gets ready to face Phillips, and the steadying pat Steve has to give Bucky.

In that context, Bucky's shout isn't just a spur of the moment cheer. It legitimises Steve and his role as Captain America in a single moment. Steve, who the soldiers had mocked and Phillips had dismissed, had proven his worth with the prisoners he led back, and Bucky uses that moment to cement that change in opinion.

Steve is big and tough now, and his fights are bigger and tougher, and Bucky can no longer win Steve's battles for him. All Bucky can do is to ensure that Steve's words won't be ignored again by the likes of Phillips by making all the soldiers acknowledge him, that Steve would always have a trustworthy team behind him for his next mission by helping to recruit the Howlies, and that...as much as he tired of the war, he would be there for Steve. He'd lead the cheer for Captain America, but the one he's following is always Steve.

As a black person I actually find the logic of many Zionists to be audacious.

This is a fair critique and it brings up one of the most important aspects of Zionism, and of all Jewish life in the modern era and from now on: that Zionism was always morally RIGHT, but it did not have to be morally NECESSARY.

Germany began visibly prepping for genocide around 1935, again nobody cared. At Evian 1938 - "the great betrayal" - pretty much every powerful state in the world acknowledged that the Jews were about to be wiped out, and knowing that, refused to allow refugees to enter (except for the Dominican Republic, the mensches). England bowed to Arab terrorism and sealed off immigration to Mandate Palestine - which was a violation of international law under the League of Nations but, again, nobody cared. Nobody, not one single country, fought to protect the Jews or to help them escape. The Allies couldn't be bothered to bomb the tracks into Auschwitz, but they would heroically sink refugee ships. After the war, 250,000 Jews lingered miserably in displaced persons camps for YEARS, with not one single country being willing to admit them, and in nearly all cases there being nothing to return to anyway. There were still Jews kept in Dachau, guarded by Germans, until 1951.

From a 1945 report to Truman: "Many Jewish displaced persons … are living under guard behind barbed-wire fences … including some of the most notorious concentration camps … had no clothing other than their concentration camp garb…. Well, Jews did not ask to have no government in the world grant us equality or defend us from genocide. We did not ask to have no choice. And we do not ask for our response to the latest attempted genocide to be condemned by the same nations that enabled the last several.

As "critics of Israel" have made it extremely clear that all Jews worldwide remain legitimate targets, that all "colonizers" (unquestionably including Americans like me) "deserve it" ("it" to include infanticide, rape, kidnapping, and mass murder), and as America visibly decays into algorithmic racist authoritarianism and climatic desperation.... you should not expect that 90% to change.

To me Rhaenyra would’ve been such an enjoyable character if she wasn’t perpetually framed as the hero (which is the intent, so that’d be a different show), If she could’ve been as sheltered, entitled, and even cruel as she actually is without always being presented as the flawless chosen one… she’d been great to watch ngl. She happens to be portrayed by two strong performers, and Emma in particular plays the “entitled” and “manipulative”part very well.

I’m definitely Team Green, as in, i do think Aegon is the heir over Rhaenyra from the moment he’s born, but my issues with Rhaenyra aren’t about her thinking the throne is hers, or fighting for it. She’s the firstborn and it was promised to her. I get that and do sympathise with her because of that.

The obvious comparison is Shiv Roy (the circumstances are very different, i’m talking framing/writing) who many might say is the best Roy (and this could’ve been said about Rhaenyra even without the hero framing) because she is the most left-leaning, and she also says pretty things like “when I’m queen I’ll create a new order”. It’s when it comes to actions, neither can truly back it up, because the quest for power is what matters the most, and Shiv wasn’t patted on the head during hers. It was also acknowledged a few times that she does believe in the things her brothers don’t care for. Why was it impossible for Rhaenyra to be written like this? Cause she’s supposed to be Daenerys 2.0 and that’s a shame

rhaenyra would have benefited tremendously from shiv's writing. for example, shiv's storyline during "america decides" is so well-executed & elaborate - hotd could never. she wants the democrat candidate to win bc she does believe in more left-leaning ideals, but, at the same time, her selfishness and self-preservation and desire for power come into play as she wants to lead her father's company via the arrangement she has with matsson. so she finds herself in a situation where she wants to eat her cake and have it too - have jimenez win but NOT if he agrees to block the deal to sell off waystar.

in the end, her desire for power wins over and she refuses to even try to (indirectly) convince jimenez' team to accept to block the deal like her brothers want - she never makes the phone call. if waystar gets sold off, she can't "win" and she wants to win no matter what. and she gets called out for this. explicitly and dramatically. kendall catches her red-handed and her hypocrisy is exposed for all to see. shiv doesn't care enough for her principles to make a personal sacrifice, even if it's for the good of the entire country. it's sympathetic because she is trying as a woman to react to being excluded from the high echelons of power, but, at the same time, it's utterly meaningless, because she is/will be rich af no matter what, so being CEO is just child's play. just that other people will get hurt if the fascist mencken becomes president, but who cares about that, right? shiv is a privileged woman who will be ok no matter what, the suffering will always be reserved for other people.

poignant parallel to the targaryens fighting over the throne and never choosing the welfare of the people over their own consolidation of power. rhaenyra could have been a rich woman living her comfortable housewife life, but she feels so entitled to a position she doesn't even care to fulfill properly that she plunges the entire continent in a pointless civil war. she doesn't have a political bone in her body, is diplomatically inept and her administration skills are lacking, but viserys promised she'd be queen, so that's that. just like shiv doesn't have any true qualifications or experience to be CEO, but she pursues that goal to the detriment of her personal relationships and morality.

as you said, shiv is not patted on the back for holding the "right" political beliefs, she is not given chosen-one white-hart framing, she is presented with all her complexity and flaws and contradictions. like rhaenyra, she is not shown to do an altruistic gesture if it doesn't benefit her in some way, so the narrative doesn't treat her like the second coming of christ. rhaenyra could have similarly been a groundbreaking female character - not necessarily likable, but sympathetic and complex and ultimately interesting.

Just what is it that causes people (both in and out of universe) to blame heroes for the actions of the villains? (E.g. Wanda getting blamed for the deaths Rumlow caused in Lagos when he decided he wouldn't let Captain America take him alive; Quill being blamed for the Snap because he lashed out when he realized his girlfriend had just been murdered by the overpowered grapefruit in front of him; the blame Stephen gets for Titan, etc.)

Victim blaming. That's all it is, I honestly can't see it being anything else.

We saw a bit of this with the Accords when Ross had the audacity to blame the team for the NYC invasion, the helicarriers, Sokovia, the deaths in Lagos... it's far easier to blame the heroes than admit that 1) Shield was using the cube to make weapons and the Council almost blew up NYC, 2) Hydra had infiltrated Shield and part of the government and way too many Shield agents and officials agreed with Hydra's morals enough to let them in, 3) Stark and Banner being idiots, 4) an ex-Hydra agent who was walking free despite his crimes blowing up a building.

Out of those 4, in 3 either Shield or the government or both are directly to blame.... but the discussion is steered towards the heroes instead. There's no way that's a coincidence.

If we blame the heroes the status quo is not challenged. They come up with that godawful line of "The hero let the villain do x" and so the conversation is about their actions instead of why the villain did what they did or what brought them there, etc.

But it always depends on who the villain is. You never see anyone blame the Avengers for the NYC invasion, that's always on Loki - some people even refuse to acknowledge the Mind Stone's influence on him. When it's Wanda doing something she shouldn't be doing, the context of her actions doesn't matter, she's no more than an evil witch. What Stephen did in Titan wasn't questioned until Waldron came up and now a lot of people call him selfish and he has to defend himself in his own freaking movie while Thanos' involvement is either watered down or his role in the NYC invasion is completely wiped out as we see the Snap turned into a joke.

The wife did her best to smooth over the topic with a hasty, "Ah, well, we will have to have our own conversations about that in time, I imagine."

“You have a brother, Anne. Should you not ask him such a question?” The man complements, finding his voice and a napkin.

“I did not take you for a man of faith, Ominis.” Anne deadpanned. “Have you met Sebastian? He will never marry, lest have a child. You two are my only hope.”

He might have dismissed the prodding with a snarky comment, but the damage was done. Something shook loose within him, something he thought that he had killed in the bud so many years ago.

He is a pureblood, a Gaunt, and so he had been expected to reproduce as much as he can, as soon as he can, but, as all things related to those two traits of his, he has resented such an obligation. He has heard of Isolt Sayre and the halfblood daughters she had in America, how one of them had simply refused to have children to let this cursed bloodline die, and he admired the decision, so much so he thought of replicating it himself.

Around his First Year, though, he has briefly wondered that, if he had a family, he would not feel as alone as he did, if only he could find someone likeminded and pleasant enough. Then, he started getting along with the Sallow twins and the idea left his head, as it should.

Even when Ominis met Rosalie and decided that courting someone was not so bad, after all, he is yet to change his mind about his anti-natalist stance. Perhaps it was disloyal of him to propose marriage without disclosing it to his prospective bride, but, well, he by himself is enough of a liability, he did not want to put too much strings on the match. She would probably not mind, or say that she does not to placate him, but his in-laws were rather… Disconcerted with the match, regardless of bloodlines, and he is sure that, had he demanded a Knut more than what was offered to him, he would be shown the door. That would not be acceptable, and so he relented in deferring the decision to a later date, hopefully forever.

If she truly wished to be a mother, then he would just insist upon adoption, as it is not as much the rearing part he is against, it is the blood that he feels is too cursed to survive. Had they met at a different place in their lives, had she been a widow, for one, with children of her own, he would not fear embracing them as his own, as a fruit of hers is blessed as much as one of his is damned.

Well, things seemed to be changing now. As they got away from Britain and the rest of the Gaunts, rebuilding their lives in Canada with the Sallow twins, he has been revisiting the idea of children, privately and slowly.

Perhaps it would not be too bad, as he, after all, is very different from his parents and would not repeat the same mistakes. Nor would any child of his be only Gaunt, as half of them would necessarily be of the woman he loves, and he knows that she is fully good.

When Anne asked that backhanded question of hers, it all seemed to come together for Ominis, and he feels that he rather wants a son or a daughter with his wife, bearing his name, and he wants it now.

He had held composure well enough at first, but with some time, it was hard not to notice. His attention to her voice seemed different these days, he touches her more, even when he ought to be working the looms and the potions, and his hand lingers at the small of her back or down her arms. In fact, he directs her by touch quite frequently. He has become harsher towards anyone who is even the slightest bit uncooperative towards her. While it is only in his nature to be protective, now he hovers nearby like he cannot let her out of his sight.

Yet, they had not made love since this reproductive mania began, and it is driving him near to madness, as, while he wants it very much, he also fears it, and so has taken to deny her at night. He should not rush it, he should talk to her, at the very least he should make peace with his thoughts, but everything is happening so strongly in his mind that it is difficult to set himself into the right headspace for any of it.

I've seen some people say that the rise of the far right in many countries is to do with trump, when in actual fact it's to do with the brexit vote in the U.K. The man behind it Nigel farage has close ties with trump who endorsed him. Trump himself had a Scottish mother and a father of European ancestry - when he talked about making America great again, it was clearly stemming from how America is a country built on white supremacy from Britain and other European countries many years ago.

Britain tried and somewhat successfully to portray itself as a reformed democratic country inclusive for all, just like America did, despite the fact both of them occupy other countries illegally. When 9/11 happened though, they illegally invaded and committed genocides in the middle east under the false guise of 'democracy' which gave rise to far right sentiments being more popular and a high refugee crisis. Particularly in Britain which has led to the conservatives who are only becoming more far right come into power and thus brexit happening. And the success of that and the collaboration of the people behind it with trump to let him come into power.

In all honesty, the far right have always been in Europe and never gone away, but they were treated as a minority not to worry about and not representative of the countries, rather than dealing with those problems. Thus the far right became smarter in how they talked because of this and more emboldened and that's why now we see the likes of merloni and now wilders in power and also the likes of modi and bolsonaro in power in other parts of the world.

The far right now becoming the dominant parties isn't surprising but just something waiting to happen from countries refusing to acknowledge the atrocities of their past so they can portray themselves as the beacons of 'democracy' and 'civilised' to the rest of the world

I don’t have Twitter so I can’t back up this future claim, but I have also been told that jk takes any support of her media, even if those people who like it don’t align with her beliefs, as support of her beliefs as well

I have also been told that JK is using her money to basically be the main financial funder of transphobia in the UK (I am American so feel free to correct me on that, UK followers :])

but overall, here’s the important part: if your allyship (or inter-community support) of black, Jewish, trans, Asian, etc. people (<- at least those are the main four I see asking for people to stop supporting jk or hp) stops when you enjoy something, you are not an ally. you seem to be using your trans friends as an excuse but that does not blind me from the fact you are actively engaging in media made by someone who has harmed many minorities and refuses to acknowledge or change her ways.

OKAYOKAOKAYOKAY so i think the "Ada is Chinese/American" has been a huge misinterpretation based on that one "Ada Wong facts" vid from ink ribbon? the video states that she's Chinese-American and for some reason I think people interpreted that as she's half Chinese / Half white. (i've always interpreted it as just she is Chinese AND lives in America and has grown up partially in America.

also for some reason it seems like Ada (to me) is the only fully asian character because jill has always supposed to be half japanese and they just COMPLETELY got rid of that imo. i refuse to acknowledge that she's half japanese considering they just don't do anything alluding to the fact that she is. she's always been modelled after white models too.

And also a lot of sites including capcom just state that's Ada's "of Chinese descent" and don't specify anything else.

i don't really think she was born in the states tbh. i do think her parents were immigrants or at least she had something that made her go to the states. i like the idea of her having to at least grow up a bit in the states (particularly in her teens) and that's also why i think she doesn't have an accent.

also YEAH i do know a lot of people who have come over from china or some part of asia and they RARELY lose their accent if they come over in their 20s. (most people have defined vocab at this point and unless they actively try to lose their accent or change their vocab, it tends to stay kinda the same. their english will get better, but i've also known people that lost a lot of their english after leaving uni for example) i've only see people lose their accent/never develop one if they have lived in america for 15+ years or grew up for a lot of their childhood/teen years

i know that's confirmation bias lol but considering ada's always had perfect american english, i (personally) can not headcanon that she moved into the states in her 20s. i think that she could've been in the states by the time she's like 7-11.

i'm not a huge headcanon-er of ada having siblings (particularly younger siblings.) also it being the 70s, (if her family complied with the law) she should not/would not have younger siblings (look up "one child law" if you're confused) i can see her having a younger friend that she "wanted as a sister"

i can maybe see ada having an older sibling, but i also hc that her family (similarly to leon and the rest of the re cast lol) have all lost their families in their entirety. (also i KNOW that the "leon lost his entire family" thing hasn't ever really been confirmed, it's just heavily headcanoned)

And even though disabled, trans, poor and Jewish people in the US are all similar levels of endangered, white people in those communities still push this "blue or die" shit because they cannot wrap their heads around the fact that the US has gone so far right that their white privilege has almost no more currency. Most of them are newly poor despite having an education that prepared them to be middle class, and even those who grew up working class are now plunged into the kind of economic instability foreign to even their parents. They are now forced to live the reality that the majority of BIPOC has for generations with no point of reference or ability to adapt, so they cling to what they know. They absolutely refuse to listen to those who have known generational disenfranchisement and systemic exclusion because 1) centering themselves is second nature to them and 2) the problem they want solved is the loss of their white bourgeoisie privilege, not creating equitable resources by dismantling of power structures. Social justice for them is simply about finding a port in the storm, to harbour until their own conviction in the Just World Theory is rewarded and their privileges restored to them.

And the thing is that part of what they're saying is true— Biden's administration has very limited scope to do anything about most of it because these are systems of economic power entrenched in the US establishment, the nexus of which is military operations and contracts. I mean, once you have seen Trump, Biden, Hillary Clinton and Bernie fucking Sanders all take the same party line on Israel's right to raze Palestine to the ground, you cannot possibly have any more illusions left.

Or so you would think. White America is built on the myth that they live at the heart of democracy and enlightened civilization, and anything that contradicts this is an aberration or the work of bad faith actors. That's why they keep saying that the "system is broken" instead of recognizing that the system is actually functioning 100% the way it is meant to. i wanted to dress lolita for a while, but im a poor latina in a (in general) not-so-kind latino country for poor people, the tax to buy in original sites from other countries is CRAZY and the ones from my country are also expensive cause its not a popular fashion in latino america. so both isnt affordable to my mom, who works with kindergarten kids and have to raise 3 kids of her own. my dad works, his payment is better than my mom but he have to spend it in his treatment cause he have a chronic illness and mine + my siblings cause we are fucked up in the head. do u think its acceptable if i buy popular dresses in aliexpress?

as for your question, i would say it ultimately comes down to what you want to do and what you personally find acceptable. it's already a great start that you're not jumping straight into it, and that you're choosing to make an informed decision. i'm not sure that i'm the best person to answer your question, but i'll tell you what i think..

everyone has a different experience coming into the fashion. i've heard many stories about beginners starting out with buying falsely advertised or replica dresses. back then, it was mostly milanoo but now i would say that's been replaced by aliexpress or amazon. many did so out of a mix of reasons (being more affordable, unknowingly doing so, being young are usually the top contributors to this) these usually end with regret, because the items are very low quality.

i'll clarify this by saying i mean replicas of dresses and prints, and not so much accessories. replicas of shoes and bags are a lot more acceptable within the community because it's not something you can really "copyright" like you can with a print design. replicas do harm the artist because the designs are stolen and resold. they don't profit from those sales. not only that, but you won't exactly be getting what you paid for either. 20dollarlolita on here has a very informative post on this topic, i'm not the greatest at putting this into words.

you're right in acknowledging that lolita fashion is niche compared to other styles, that's a big part of it. japanese brands producing lolita clothing are a lot smaller than we think (and for indie brands, even smaller!!) many of them have been closing recently due to a lack of sales or not being able to keep up with production. buying replicas or settling for fast fashion funnels money into producing more low quality mass produced items, instead of supporting brands that need sales to keep up with producing higher quality items that take more money and time to make.

i'm not too educated on what the taxes are like for other countries, so i can't really help you on that front. i don't know what that's like at all, i only really know how expensive shipping from japan can be.

i recommend secondhand brand items because they could be found at affordable prices without a loss in quality. secondhand items on lace market can be very affordable with patience and catching good deals, this is where i started and i highly recommend it. you'll find even better deals on damaged items, and many of them will be easy fixes with a bit of TLC. the easiest fixes are usually color bled items, yellowed lace from sun damage or age, loose buttons, and stains. shipping prices could be more manageable if you filter it to sellers from your country rather than dealing with international shipping costs.

items on taobao are also quite fairly priced from what i've heard, but i don't have any experience with it so i'm afraid i can't help you more..

personally, i didn't start wearing lolita until i was financially able to do so.. and that wasn't for a long time! i'm not sure how old you are but i was very young and my family wasn't in the best position either when i discovered the fashion. on the bright side, waiting is what allowed me more time for researching and making better decisions.
