As one of the earliest portable computers, the PC Convertible marked a significant milestone in the evolution of American personal computing, offering newfound mobility and versatility to professionals and enthusiasts alike.

💻 The IBM PC Convertible represented IBM's inaugural foray into creating a portable version of its iconic PC line. It was the first laptop-style computer following the luggable IBM Portable, and notably introduced the 3½-inch floppy disk format to the IBM product line. Featuring a clamshell design this groundbreaking device set the stage for future generations of laptops. Its compact form factor and relatively lightweight made it a practical choice for on-the-go computing—a novel concept at the time.

Digital Altars📱🔮

Altars are considered a key element of witchcraft for deity worship, elemental, planetary or ancestral connections, or spell work. However, they can be costly, you may not have the space for it, or you may be in the broom closet. But you don't need a physical altar, you don't even need physical tools. Digital altars are a great way to worship deities in the case you’re unable to set up a physical altar. There are heaps of alternatives if you’d like to get creative with it.

Some people doubt the integrity of digital altars, however I believe they gain metaphysical energy as they’re created, which can be used for witchcraft. Think about emoji spells for example!

Digital altars are different to digital shrines, which are similar in concept, but different in purpose. Shrines are more of a permanent honouring of a being, and they don't necessarily have to be used actively. Meanwhile altars are for active worshiping, when you’re actually giving an offering or trying to contact that deity. However, digital altars can also function as a shrine, depending on use!

Below are 19 different options for digital altars (but I'd suggest using multiple!)

Image/Collage Altars

Picrew Altar Sketch (by Camade)

This game was designed specifically for creating altars suitable for sacred spaces to perform deity worship, to connect with ancestors, and to be a witch’s working table. After saving it you can edit the picture frames to add pictures of your deity, your family or any other being. It has a lot of variability so it’s great for creating multiple altars very quickly in a consistent aesthetic.

Here’s a link to one I made the other day, using colours and imagery to suit my purpose. This is probably the easiest of the options, while also being the most versatile. However, there are limitations as you can't really make it specific to your chosen deity unless you edit the image later.

Canva / Morpholio / Photoshop

These allow for creating single image collages to set as your phone or laptop background with crystals, cardinal directions, deity images, candles, wands or any other altar tools, along with quotes, intentions and prayers. This can be as subtle or structured as you want, making it helpful for closeted witches.

You can use the collages you create for wallpapers on your laptop or phone, or you could get them printed out and stick them on your wall!

In-Game Altars

Minecraft

On Minecraft you can built entire structures as an altar or shrine, but you’re limited with decorations unless you install a mod. Mods can give you a lot of room to be creative and have a strong aesthetic. Alternatively, you can build just one room and line it with books, add an enchanting table, potions, diamond/emerald blocks, brewing stands, cauldrons and more, using the standard texture pack.

@gailcraft was kind enough to speak to me about her experiences using altars on Minecraft. She usually uses her Minecraft altars to function as a travel altar or when her physical altar hasn’t been cleansed, mainly as a visual representation of her physical altars rather than an actual workspace. When using her Minecraft altar, she generally keeps it strictly digital, writing out prayers on signs and giving in-game offerings of food and potions which correspond with the deity.

As you can see in the images she’s provided, she’s created a cottage-like structure to house her main digital altar to serve as a safe space, decorated with candles, crystals and plants inside. She has separate deity altars for Hades and Persephone, decorated with skull paintings, gold, spiders eye, crystals, flowers, a skeleton skull, lanterns and the aforementioned offerings in picture frames.

These are great altar alternatives as they don’t require much maintenance or energy, and are suitable for witches who are unable to have a physical altar or who travel a lot.

Another really cool idea for digital altars by @neonswitchhouse is to make digital spell jars by placing items in chests that may best represent your purpose, and you can specify this by writing intents on signs above the chests.

An added bonus is that you can design a skin for your avatar to look like yourself, and you can get pets like wolfs or cats.

Animal Crossing

New Horizons has so much potential for digital altars as it’s super customisable. You can dedicate an entire room in your house to witchcraft, decorating it with a glowing magic-circle flooring, candle wallpaper, candles, stonework kitchen sets, gothic mirrors, decorative bottles, cauldrons, brick ovens, pillars, stone and candle chandeliers. They also have divination sets with crystal balls, incense, bones (in the form of dinosaurs) and a whole load of other decorative options. The main issue is that collecting all of these is time-consuming unless you purchase them online. You can make offerings by placing items that correspond with your deity in your room.

There are heaps of examples of this. @spookynerdghoul has one here and @blomi-isle has one here. Alternatively @ostarasghost has a dedicated corner which you can see here.

You could also make an outdoor altar space, or multiple all around your island. You can create patterns to put on the floor as runes or sigils that correspond with your intent, if you’re looking to do spellwork or deity worship in-game. You could make offerings through art by creating patterns and placing them on stands.

There’s even a zodiac-themed item set that you can create by wishing on shooting stars. You can customise and dress up your avatar to wear cute witchy clothes too, or download outfits from their online section that other players have designed.

On my island, I have one section with a stonehenge which lines up with the full moon, as well as a separate rocky-section with some candles and a skull-hat, and a crescent moon island with a pattern of Saturn that I created, but I encourage you to go more full-out than I did!

Stardew Valley

@baduhennasravensraven classifies these as shrines, but I’d like to show it as an example as a potential altar. They’ve set up multiple sheds to serve as shrines/temples for different deities! You can see images in their post here.

Like for Minecraft, you do needs mods to get the full experience, but again you can make digital spell jars by growing the plants that best represent your purpose and placing them in with items that may best represent your purpose.

Sims / Avakin

I’ve grouped these together because they’re similar, but in both you can design and decorate houses in a 3D virtual world.

Again, expansion and stuff packs are needed to use Sims to the fullest, but you can find some great ones by @simdertalia here and here, or one by @lycheesmods here. Some more of the relevant ones are the Magic School mod (fair warning: it’s Harry Potter inspired) and the Paranomal pack, where you can have ghosts as roomates and perform a séance.

Here's an example altar made on Avakin by @onixdace. I'm not that familiar with this program, but it looks similar in concept to other house-design/decoration games.

Hollowmoor

@hollowmoor-game is a steam game still in the works with a planned release in 2023. I’m not sure yet of specific ideas in using it as a digital altar, but I’m sure it’ll be great, and I’ll update this post when it does come out.

According to their page, “As a budding young Witch or Wizard you’ll need to manage your farm and explore the mystical world to gather your ingredients. Brew potions! Forge enchantments! Complete orders for the townsfolks and learn their stories! Bring magic back to Hollowmoor!”

It seems promising! I believe it’s similar in concept to Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing, so I’m sure you could form a digital altar in the same way in Hollowmoor once it’s released.

Abstract Art Altars

Dream AI

[Edited 10 Dec 22] I’ve recently become aware AI art generators steal from creators online and I no longer endorse this method. Instead I recommend using art apps like CSP, playing a devotional playlist and drawing or painting what comes to mind to create an abstract piece of your own for a specific purpose. This way, in very low opacity, you can write out your intention and add images to be displayed subliminally on your altar.

Dream AI is an artificial intelligence art-creating app. You can use this to make an abstract artistic altar by typing in words like your deities name and their associations or a short prayer or intention, use the outcome as an altar by making it your phone background. You can also set a base image to inspire the art with your deity of choice, making a sort of subliminal image of that deity within the creation. This is helpful for closet witches, you can just claim you like the art the AI produced if anyone asks.

Alternatively, you can use the art as a digital offering by posting it on your tumblr altar captioned with a prayer, like @crazyskirtlady has here. Check out her page for more examples of techno witchcraft!

Mixed Media Altars

Notion

Notion is a great organisational app where you can add a mix of photos, gifs, text, embedded videos, music and playlists onto a page, making for a multi-media style altar. You can also store resource notes and links for any research you do.

@caduceussky and @arabellascraft were both kind enough to walk me through how they use their Notion altars!

@caduceussky has multiple different altars for different uses, like for deities and spirits, productivity, work-life balance, and prosperity spells that she uses in conjunction with physical altars, depending on convenience and her personal preference.

For deity/spirit work, she typically sets up her Notion altar first as a placeholder while she’s working on setting up a physical altar, then she treats it like a travel altar. She also use Notion for spell altars that have to do with work and study, since she uses her laptop for those, with separate pages set up for certain spells, sort of like digital spell jars.

For deity/spirit altars, she plays a devotional playlist while setting up the altar and adds a photo of a candle and photos of the deity/spirit or their associations like a collage. Digital offerings can go here, too, such as devotional writing or art. It can also be used as a journal to write her experiences and lessens she’s learnt from the deity/spirit.

For spell altars, she writes her intention at the top of the page, and any additional manifestations underneath. Similar to her deity/spirit altars, she includes photos of associations of the spell’s intentions, and sigils specific to the spell.

@arabellascraft uses her Notion altar for spontaneous rituals and spellwork as her physical altars are generally temporary. She meditates to her Notion altar or leaves a note, for example for gratitude.

She practices Irish folk traditions, one of which being having a moment of reflection and prayer when you first see the new moon of the month. Having her Notion altar in her pocket makes practicing this simple as it’s portable, however, one weakness is that there’s a lack of a physical connection. On the up side, the ability to embed playlists into Notion keeps her in the spiritual mindset rather than having to go back and forth in Spotify.

There’s about to be a Notion AI too, with the function of brainstorming assistance. This means you can type in something such as “What can I do to increase my mindfulness,” and a list of related answers and ideas will be produced, or “Write a poem about the God Apollo,” and the AI will generate one for you. You can join the waitlist here.

Phone App Altars

#Self-Care

This game includes a digital altar with a function to integrate your personal experiences by setting objects to a meaning, memory or realisation, like a journal. It also has organising functions to put objects away from you altar when you’re done with them and bring them back out when you’d like to display them again.

You can gain objects for your altar by performing in-game tasks like putting away laundry, fill-in-the-blank word activities with your choice of affirmations or life tips, simple puzzles, and gain tarot cards by picking a daily tarot card. You can also light a candle and type in an intention!

It does take a while to collect enough objects to display for a particular purpose, but if your digital altar is going to be your main altar, this one is a good long-term option.

The app is customisable to a certain extent with colours and designs, but some of the fancier stuff you have to pay for (like nicer backgrounds and patterns).

Discord

On Discord, you can join a public server with custom categories to use as digital altars, such as this one by @homeiswherethehearthis. Alternatively, you can create a private server with chat rooms for various areas of worship and then post pictures/gifs and write prayers there.

With Discord altars, you can write messages to your deities, send them pictures, links to articles or books about them, as well as send them offerings of your creations. It’s a great way to have a massive private or shared space dedicated to your deity.

Further, you can add Discord bots that can do divination for you, as suggested by @lyresstrings in this post, such as a pendulumn bot, a daily tarot bot, or a horoscope bot. There’s even one that states the current moon phase!

Notes App

In the standard Notes app you can create folders for specific deities, and inside each folder, add notes daily, with images, links, song names and lists of correspondences to that deity. Further, you can write letters to your deity within the notes app, as well as intentions, wishes, and things you’re greatful for.

A great feature of this app is that you can actually lock your notes with a password just incase you’re worried about someone going through your digital altar.

This one is a good option to use in conjunction with a Collage altar if you make it your phone background.

Pinterest Shuffles

Pinterest Shuffles is a sister app of Pinterest, but instead of boards, it’s like scrapbooking. It’s an amazing tool for creative expression with a similar vibe to what Polyvore used to be.

The altars you can make with this are similar in concept to collage altars but the uses are specific to phones, meaning you can only make phone wallpaper images. With Shuffles, you can incorporate images directly from your Pinterest boards, which is great if you already have a deity board and want to condense it into a single image to set your wallpaper.

You can add text with intentions and prayers, or you can just use symbols of your deity of choice. I’d suggest making multiple of these, all with different intentions, so you can change your wallpaper based on what you’re asking of the deity for that day and worship on-the-go just by looking at your lock screen.

I made one as an example which you can view here. This is currently my home screen wallpaper! I added symbols of Saturn such as a clock, skeleton, herbs, capricorn, the world tarot card, the shrine of Saturn in italy, a crow, the number 3, karma, saturn-related texts, and my favourite images of Saturn.

Social Media Altars

Tumblr Blogs

This is probably the most common digital altar, mainly because of the massive witchcraft presence on Tumblr, and the ability to make multiple secondary blogs for each deity.

You can reblog general posts that remind you of your deity, images, gifs, spells, associations, prayers, emoji spells and more. However, are often considered to be more shrine-like activities. You can turn it into an altar by creating posts with digital offerings such as art and collages captioned with text spells, emoji spells, or prayers/worships (as inspired by @crazyskirtlady), or write poems for your deity.

Blogs are totally customisable, and you can change the designs with pictures, music, fonts and more. One important thing to note with secondary blogs is that you cannot initiate social functions like DMs, comments, even following and liking, and you can never change your secondary blog into a primary blog (trust me, I’ve tried. I made the mistake of making this account a secondary blog, now I can’t interact with any of you unless you reach out first).

The tagging system is a little weak though, and it can be difficult to search through all your posts and reblogs, so I suggest if there’s anything you want to keep track of, you have a separate space for it, such as on Notion.

Pinterest Boards

With Pinterest, you can create multiple boards for different deities or spirits, adding images that remind you of those beings from what others have posted. Finding inspiration is super simple! You can add images of representations of your deity, like food, clothes, crystals, art, sculptures, elements, animals, objects and more.

Instagram

In the same sense as creating a Pinterest board, you can dedicate an entire Instagram account to your deity. You don’t have to follow anyone, and can keep it on private, or you can share it publicly. You can post your offerings, photos of things you come across in every-day life like images of the sun, the ocean, trees, plants, bugs and more.

Be careful with this option, however, as you can’t just download photos from Pinterest and post them without credit. This option is more appropriate for art you’ve created yourself and documenting your experiences with captions, poems, emojis, short letters, gratitudes, and intentions.

Musical/Playlist Altars

Spotify

One post by @asatroende got me thinking about how apps like Spotify can be used as digital altars by creating playlists with songs you associate with a deity as a form of prayer. Some examples other than normal music includes subliminals, podcasts, instrumentals, and white noise sounds. If you add a short ambient candle sound in the middle of the playlist, this can aid in visualising a candle, making your prayer or offering, then it

You can add a picture of your deity as the album cover and add an intention or emoji spell in the description to customise it further. Spotify also allows you to make folders, and insert multiple playlists within those folders, which is great it you have multiple deities you’d like to make altars for.

An added bonus is that if you have a Notion altar, you can embed this playlist into it!

For my Spotify altar for Saturn, I added Sleeping At Last’s ‘Saturn’ from Atlas I, a 1:24 minute candle sound, then the planetary/space sounds recorded and posted by NASA called ‘Nasa - Saturn’. This way, I can get in the mindset, make my devotional prayer to the candle visualisation, then mediate to the sounds of Saturn for 30 minutes. I used an emoji spell as the description, and used an image of Saturn eclipsing as the cover.

Apple Music

I’m not a user of Apple Music, but I’m sure it can be used in a similar way to Spotify. If you have the free version, you can only add songs that you own to a playlists. To get around this you can use a youtube-to-mp3 converter to get ambient sounds, subliminals and more. However, this isn’t necessary, and you can just include music you own that reminds you of your chosen deity.

Virtual Reality Altars

Oculus

One last idea is if you have the technology and setup for it, you can create an altar in a VR game or space. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find any practical examples of this one.

Some people doubt the integrity of digital altars, however I believe they gain metaphysical energy as they’re created, which can be used for witchcraft. Think about emoji spells, for example!

Altars can be used for multiple purposes, for deities, patron planets, ancestors or general spirit work. Some people have one altar for everything, or separate their altars to keep these purposes separate, minimising the ‘cleansing’ you may have to do between each ritual.

Traditionally altars include tools to represent, the four elements, the cardinal directions, genders (although this is sort of being phased out), and offerings. The sub-categories of these are where you can get creative in the representations. More on that in a future post!

💕Aphrodite's Water 💕

This is a fruit-infused water recipe that I have affectionally coined Aphrodite water because of my personal associations with her and how I use this water. This is my UPG.

This is a simple recipe you probably already make, so why not add it to your magical and devotional routine; its ease of access, easiness to make, and versatility make it a powerful potion, great for spells, or an offering.

How it is Used:

As a potion: tailor the fruits to taste and desired magical & health properties. I drink this to connect with Aphrodite and increase my feelings of beauty, self-love, and increase my libido. I am also actively trying to be healthier and it's a good replacement for unhealthy beverages. I often combine drinking this with self-care and self-love rituals dedicated to Aphrodite. It creates an atmosphere.

As an offering: say a prayer to Aphrodite as you prepare it and offer it to her. I will typically keep this on my altar and pair it with rose quartz and sea shells.

Spells: when using for spells, I especially like to use rose petals as a garnish because I feel like it pleases Aphrodite (and me) but it's optional.

Best used in spells for abundance, fertility, self-love, romantic love, and attraction.

Use it to create a spell jar; in this case, I often add flower petals and herbs. I will often also add incense ashes or essential oils in scents associated with Aphrodite such as sandalwood. Depending on the spell, I may write something on a piece of paper and have it dissolve in the water.

Use it to extinguish spells involving fire: when burning bay leaves, or other ingredients for spells as mentioned above, I will extinguish the fire with this water.

Fruits To Use:

*many fruits/plants can be associated, but not all "infuse" the water well enough for it to taste good if you're drinking it.

Pomegranate: said to be first planted by Aphrodite herself.

Strawberries

Raspberries

Blackberries

Figs

Apples: we all know that famous story

Watermelon

What's needed:

Water

Ice (optional, but recommended if you're drinking it)

Lemon, lime, or oranges

Your choice of fresh or frozen fruit that is associated with love, lust, beauty, or sex

Reusable straw (optional, but recommended if you're drinking it)

Rose petals for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Mix a generous amount of freshly squeezed lemon, lime, or orange with water as a base. Add your fruit and ice, shake/stir, then done. For some fruit choices, you may have to allow it some time to infuse. I recommend using a straw as citrus can be hard on your teeth if you're drinking it.

Are you a new writer? Read this!

Writing is a lifelong pursuit, and the best writers never stop learning or striving to improve their craft. If you’re new to writing, here are some writing tips can help simplify the process:

Keep a daily writing habit

The first rule of being a professional writer is to start writing on a daily basis, ideally every day. Writing is hard work, and it’s difficult to tangibly improve your writing if you aren’t writing daily. The best writers know that they can’t possibly produce their best work day in and day out, but even so, they force themselves to get through the tough days. Once you’re in the habit of writing every day, you’ll find that those tough days come around less frequently, and you’ll start to build more confidence in your writing skills. Don’t let feelings of inadequacy or discouragement stop you from sitting down at your desk and doing the work on a daily basis.

Read diligently

The best way to develop your writing style is to read everything you can get your hands on. You’d be hard-pressed to meet a good writer who isn’t also a voracious reader, and that’s because so much of a writer’s style is informed by great writers they admire. Keep your favourite books on hand for reference. Bookmark and underline your favourite passages and seek out new books to expand your base of knowledge.

Take writing classes

Many new writers haven’t taken a writing course since high school, but the good news is there are so many options available for aspiring authors looking to continue their creative writing education. Seek out extension courses through a local college’s writing program, or look for online courses that focus on your area of interest.

Join a writing group

Finding a group of peers who you can exchange writing with is a great way to make connections in the literary world and learn from diverse voices. Writers groups are usually free to join and a great resource get additional sets of eyes on a piece of writing you are working on. Getting feedback from someone you know and trust can vastly improve your work and help you take stock of the progress you make as a writer.

Keep reference books handy

Even the best writers make mistakes now and again. Keeping a thesaurus and style guide on hand can help you avoid common mistakes and vary your word choice. If you feel shaky on English grammar or spelling, there are plenty of books and online resources you can consult to make sure that your writing is professional and error-free.

Write in a variety of forms

Just because you gravitate toward one area of writing doesn’t mean you should stop exploring. Writing in a form or medium that you don’t have much experience with can be a great way to develop your voice and strengthen parts of your writing that you might usually neglect. Switching between projects can also be a great way to break out of writer’s block and avoid staring at the dreaded blank page. If you’re working on a short story, consider blogging about something totally unrelated. If you’re stuck on your first novel, write a nonfiction piece about a seminal event from your past. Experimenting with different forms will also make you a more versatile and marketable professional writer.

Learn the rules

As a writer, you have to make sure they know the ins and outs of grammar, spelling, and style. Many young writers haven’t brushed up on formal writing rules since they were in school. If you’re a new writer, take some time to refresh your knowledge of basic writing rules, especially if you plan on writing professionally.

Outline before you write

It’s incredibly useful for young writers to make an outline or roadmap for a new piece of writing before they jump headfirst into the writing process. You might remember your English teachers hounding you to make a detailed outline from introduction to conclusion before you started writing a critical essay. Professional writers can use the same basic outline structure for their work. Without an outline it’s easy to start strong but quickly find yourself stuck after you finish the first page or chapter.

Keep a journal

Great writers find inspiration all around them. If you’re new to writing, make sure to carry a journal with you everywhere you go. You never know when inspiration will strike and what aspects of your real-life will inform parts of your writing. If you see something interesting or an idea strikes you, it’s vital that you have a place to write it down and record it for future writing projects.

Edit carefully

Your best writing will be the product of numerous rewrites. Editing and rewriting are arguably the most important parts of the writing process, especially for professional writers. In order to become a better writer and develop your writing skills, it’s vital that you put in the time editing and revising your first draft. Not only does editing ensure that you’re producing a quality piece of writing, but it also helps clue you in on bad habits you might have or common mistakes you find yourself making.

Remember why you love writing

If you’re writing serially for a group of dedicated readers, don’t let yourself lose the love for writing that made you want to do the work in the first place. Writing well depends on you maintaining your passion. If you ever feel overwhelmed by your work, take a second to do some journaling or work on a short piece that’s just for you. Taking a break to reconnect with your love of writing can help reinvigorate your passion for the craft.

One thing I really hope we get to see in S5 is Claudia (and Viren, but especially Claudia) learning that Callum can do primal magic without a primal stone.

While it's possible she learned off-screen and just doesn't care, I hope that's not the case because it just doesn't feel realistic to me. In S2, Claudia justifies her use of dark magic to Callum by saying that "[humans] were born with nothing." She felt, understandably so, that humans couldn't do primal magic on their own, and that dark magic was the only available option to them. (And we see Claudia use the primal stone when she has it, so I think that, back then, she would have connected to an arcanum if she thought it possible.)

But now we (the audience) know that's not the case—that humans CAN connect to arcanums if they're willing to put in the work. And I want to see Claudia reckon with this, because I think it's going to be an emotional tornado for her, for several reasons:

The justification for dark magic she has relied on for years has just gone out the window; humans CAN do primal magic, even without primal stones, meaning that dark magic ISN'T the only option

If it wasn't the only option, does that mean it WAS wrong for her to do the things she's done? From killing fairies to make pancakes to killing at least one human soldier to revive her father?

But it's too late to think about any of this now, because she can't undo it, and just because one human can use primal magic doesn't mean they all can, and dark magic is far more versatile and powerful anyway, and Xadia is still wrong for never telling humans this was possible (nevermind that Aaravos could have told her but didn't—)

Basically, I see Claudia being shocked, confused, guilt-stricken, hurt, and ultimately digging her heels in because holding onto a sunk cost fallacy and blaming others is easier than admitting you could have made other choices. And I want to see Claudia go through this, because we can already see her shutting her eyes against her atrocities in things like her recent Reflections story; I think it'll be interesting to see her go all the way with it.

A life— a mere thread on its own; a crucial medium for an ongoing magnum opus. It was a fascinating concept that survived the ravages of time, representing every living being as a single thread that has been intricately woven within the never-ending textile that depicts the entire world.

Like all tales that had been woven into existence by the unrivaled artisan of this fabled fabric, your story with Ominis was no different— a testimony to divinity's versatile cunning and vie in plotting one's destiny.

It was all rather comical initially: getting involved in consecutive unsavory acts that resulted in both your voluntary separation, only to be brought back together by a sudden, random intrusive thought of sending a letter to a random person. One would never have thought of such a scenario to be the bridge that connects two souls together— to end up being in good spirits despite their initial prejudice against each other. In fact, nobody would've suspected that the two of you would fall in love in the first place.

Needless to say, despite all the stacked odds, the both of you were undoubtedly an excellent match.

Oh, but what is a seemingly perfect love story without a little bit of conflict in the mix? Two people from opposing families falling for each other in the silliest way possible? That ought to stir quite the drama— a show that Ominis would've loved to eavesdrop on while sipping a cup of tea from the finest porcelain in his possession. Alas, it was a shame that he was one of the two who were directly involved in the problem along with you.

Fortunately, the solution for your current situation was simple enough: hide now, explain later. The oath of confidentiality was the shield of your relationship temporarily— at least until the both of you find a way to navigate through this sticky situation. Regardless of luck or whatever that was smiling upon your relationship, both of you had a part to play to preserve this bond.

It was a typical day in Hogwarts for the most part: just the usual students clamoring through their academics in preparation for their respective futures. Ominis was sitting in one of the few desks within an empty circular room that contained many globes and rolls of parchment tucked away neatly in the wall's built-in shelves. His hand was flipping through a particularly thick book on Herbology, while the other was scribbling away on a piece of parchment as he awaits your arrival.

It was an optional gesture, really. In fact, he should be focusing on his own essays, not jotting down summarized notes to help you speed up your process in this assignment. But then again, it was killing two birds with one stone: it would help him recall details for their upcoming exams, while also making your life a tad bit easier during these trying times— something that he'd definitely do for the sake of both love and efficiency.

“Ominis!”

At long last, his muse finally arrives.

Ominis was jolted right out of his focus, your familiar scent of peonies and freesias lingering faintly in the air as he instinctively ran his palm through his hair to smooth out any stray flyaways.

“I have the books that we need. Goodness gracious, I've never seen the library so crowded before,” you whined, slamming a stack of books that you held on the nearby vacant chair. The first few books on your pile floated towards the lithe-framed male, putting themselves right beside his ink pot. He pointed his wand at the empty space beside his desk, conjuring another desk and chair for you to use.

You gratefully allowed yourself to sit sluggishly at the seat next to him as you instantly slumped over the desk to rest your head on its wooden surface. You were visibly perplexed— a frown etched onto your features and your eyebags were becoming rather prominent due to insufficient sleep and countless workloads.

For the past week, the entire batch of 5th years had been plunged into the depths of academic hell alongside the other upperclassmen within the school. There had been consecutive mock exams and quizzes to prepare students for the upcoming OWLs and NEWTs along with mountains of assignments that had your wits pulled taut, ready to snap at any moment.

Aside from the whole ordeal affecting your sanity in terms of your studies, it has certainly been taking a toll on your personal needs as well. Despite spending copious amounts of time together as study buddies with Ominis, there was no doubt that the warm embraces and discreet little pecks from each other were sorely missed. The both of you could only grumble at the darned invisible wall of responsibility that had cruelly separated the both of you apart, giving you no choice but to behave yourselves for almost a week and counting.

And boy, was it utterly agonizing.

Your visibly frustrated eyes scanned the circular room, and much to your quiet glee, it was just you and Ominis alone.

Surely this time, there wouldn't be any interruptions, right? It was a peaceful Saturday with most students either going to Hogsmeade, staying in the library, or lounging about in the common rooms. Not a single soul was around, and there weren't any notably nosy portraits nearby that could potentially rat the both of you out.

Maybe it was time to try your luck.

The sound of quill scribbling on parchment halted the moment he felt the pads of your fingertips trace along the knuckles, seemingly in a thoughtless daze.

“... Yes, darling?”

You bid your silent farewell to your proper decorum, scooting over towards Ominis and resting your head on his shoulder. He visibly tensed upon feeling the slight shift in weight before easing up as you shift your head to a more comfortable position.

“It's just the two of us, in case you were wondering,” you mumbled. “Give me five minutes and I'll continue studying.”

It was blatantly obvious. You missed him— a lot.

He smirks at this, snaking his arm around your waist to pull you closer. Suppressing a wide grin from making its way to your face, you press your lips thinly into a line, removing your head from his shoulder briefly to stare cheekily at his visage.

“Five minutes of what exactly?” he whispers into your ear coyly, placing his quill down. “This?”

He didn't give you a chance to even answer the question properly, a soft eek escaping your lips as he turned your body to face him. His palm was placed firmly against the small of your back, slender fingers tilting your chin up to look at him. His warm breath fanned against your reddened face while you held your breath, biting back an uncharacteristic squeal that threatened to escape your lips.

Despite his calm exterior, he was, in fact, just as frustrated as you were— the only difference is that he was craving for something a bit more than mere hand-holding and butterfly kisses. And for you to fall right into his trap of agreeing to study in this desolate place? Voluntarily handing yourself over to him who desired nothing more than to savor you in every possible way?

Maybe the both of you were on the same page all this time, merely hiding each of your intentions behind a veil of innocent nonchalance. Regardless of his raging hormones, however, he prided himself as a gentleman with morals— the final decision was always yours.

He could only sigh with pure adoration, feeling the supple skin of your face and the plushness of your lips against his fingertips. Your eyelids slowly fluttered shut at his soft caress as he leaned forward, his lips slowly reaching their desired designation.

“WHEEEEEEE!”

A certain poltergeist emerged from the stone wall, immediately shattering the deliciously tense atmosphere between you and Ominis, much to Ominis’ sheer agony. The young Gaunt was absolutely seething at this point— if thoughts could kill, Peeves would've been decimated by the horrific, murderous intentions that Ominis had conjured up within his mind all in a split second despite the non-being's incapability of death.

Of course, he shan't show how miffed he truly is with that insufferable amortal. There were many different ways of expressing rage and disdain, after all.

He responds to the situation in an eerily calm manner, shutting his books and putting away his writing materials neatly, walking over to your own stack of books and tucking it under his arm alongside his own. You could only stare at him dumbfoundedly as you tail after him out of concern. Before leaving the circular room, Ominis quickly swishes his wand casually towards a very cackly Peeves, the poor poltergeist's gyrating voice immediately muffled as his tongue gets glued to the roof of his mouth by Ominis' non-verbal jinx.

Oh, he was cross, alright. Very cross. The sight of your lover’s cold fury had shivers running down your spine— whether it is out of fright, attraction, or both, you had no plans on adding fuel to his stress-induced fire.

Merlin, all he wanted was at least a damn kiss and the universe seems to be forbidding him from getting one from you. What was the bloody point of allowing him to be with you if he couldn't even give you a smooch at least once a day? Unacceptable. How utterly outrageous.

But no matter— he had a solution to this entire problem, albeit his reluctance.

Perhaps it was time to divulge one of his many secrets to you. With Skylar and Sebastian out of the castle grounds this particular weekend, he could finally bring you to his hideout where the both of you could finally have some uninterrupted time alone.

But even with his confident, anger-fueled strides, he had his own reservations when it comes to bringing you into the Undercroft. It was sure to be dusty, and messy— far from being a romantic spot since that's where he and Sebastian often practiced spells of varying kinds; specifically the more destructive and forbidden ones.

It felt rather silly of him to be in jitters knowing that you've probably been through filthier places considering your knack for spontaneous outdoor adventures during non-winter months, but it doesn't change the fact that you're his lady now. There are certain things that he'd rather not let you see out of gentlemanly respect.

It was too late for him to back out now, though— the both of you were currently standing before the allegedly dysfunctional clock beneath the Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom. You tilted your head in confusion, your line of sight darting towards the blonde-haired male.

“Ominis, darling. Why exactly are we standing in front of this old clock?”

The faintest of smiles graces Ominis' lips.

“You'll see.”

He flicks his wand towards the direction of the clock, its cogwheels, and mechanisms begin to click and spin before it halts with a distinct clang. Your brows raised in surprise as its face swung wide open, revealing a concealed passageway.

“Huh, would you look at that? Another dark, ominous corridor,” you peered curiously at the dimly lit stairwell leading down to an unknown area. “I think I'm sensing a pattern here.”

“Oh shush. Just go in,” he scoffs in amusement. You gladly obliged, eyes glimmering with excitement and wonder while Ominis follows suit, the door immediately closing behind him upon his entry. With his fingers finally intertwined with yours, he led you down the dimly lit stairwell slowly with the red blinking tip of his wand guiding you both. Upon arriving at the end of the stairwell, Ominis whisks his wand once again, the metal gates rising up to reveal a large room filled with crates, training dummies, and several spare tables and small blackboards.

Hogwarts truly never fails to surprise you with its plethora of hidden locations.

“Goodness, I never would've imagined there'd be a room all the way down here,” you mused, taking in your surroundings with great interest. “Is there anyone else who knows of this place?”

“It's… A Gaunt family secret, I suppose. But only me, Sebastian, Anne, and Skylar know of it. Also, we call this the Undercroft.”

You strolled around the relatively large room, taking note of several odd things that had piqued your interest: the blackboards that had several angry scribbles and notes written in Ancient Runes, Phoenician, Greek, Cyrillic, and Aramaic, the nearby blank stone wall that has faint golden inscriptions of magic circles and runes, and a triptych with two ripped-out canvases.

“Seems like a perfect base for illicit little studies and spell-casting. I’m assuming Sallow has been studying the spellbook intensively in here?”

“Unfortunately, yes. I've been staying away from this place for that very reason,” Ominis sighed, scratching his nape sheepishly. “Honestly, we haven't been talking much ever since that day in the scriptorium. He's been fixated on that book, and it feels quite rotten to linger around knowing that your own best friend is studying the dark arts.”

You instinctively reached for his hand, rubbing small circles against his pale skin.

“Understandable. I still feel quite disturbed about what happened there, and I'm sorry you can't stay here as much. But that aside, it's not like we'd get much privacy either if we have our little cuddling sessions within this place,” you lightly joked in an attempt to ease the simmering tension. “For all we know, either one of them could walk in on us. I'd rather not risk it.”

Ominis chuckles mirthfully, much to your relief.

“And I’d rather not let you sit on any of these dusty crates or the floor, actually. Not the most romantic spot for a quick little kiss either,” he hums. “But I'd rather stay here with you than pop a blood vessel out of rage at every bloody interruption that occurs out there.”

You giggled in response at his words as the both of you sauntered towards the far corner of the Undercroft that had several barrels stacked atop of one another, pondering deeply on a solution. A nice little place for the both of you to relax in was certainly an enticing notion. Your eyes wandered towards a large, empty chest in front of you.

“Hmm. I think I might have an idea.”

“Oh? What do you have in mind?”

“A hideout within a hideout. Just for us,” you replied proudly, piquing his interest. “No one’s using this chest, right?”

Ominis traces his palm against the lacquered wooden surface.

“No.”

“Good. This will do. Stand back,” you instructed. Casting a non-verbal spell, the fastenings of its metal band and any external locking mechanisms were lifted, the little bits of metal falling onto the stone floor with a distinct clink. Its dimensions began to extend slightly, making the chest slightly longer and wider.

“Capacious Extremis.”

The wooden chest began to rattle and shake as if something was moving within it. While the Extension Charm worked its effects, you cast more spells on the object: the Imperturbable Charm, Salvio Hexia, and several other security spells and additional charms. As soon as the wooden chest ceased its movements, you knocked a specific beat on the chest, prompting it to open while a flight of stairs materialized within the seemingly cramped, poorly-lit space.

“Shall we?” you grinned excitedly, clasping his hand. Anticipation was buzzing within his mind, ever so curious about what you had in store as you led him down the flight of stairs carefully.
