Mushroom Broth Recipe
Tumblr media
There's a pretty simple backstory here: I wanted to make soup, but when I went to buy groceries the store was out of both vegetable broth and bouillon, but had mushrooms on sale. I did some Internet searching and learned that making your own broth is pretty simple and easy, so I decided to try making my own mushroom broth to use as a substitute for vegetable broth in my recipes.
In my Internet searching, I also learned the actual difference between a broth and a stock. Although most people use the words interchangeably, stock is traditionally made from bones, while broth is made with meat and/or vegetables. This is kind of fun, because it means that "bone broth" is actually, by definition, bone stock, and "vegetable stock" doesn't exist.
This recipe is my own creation but it's very, very flexible. You can swap out the vegetables and herbs to suit your own tastes. If you wanted to, you could switch the brown mushrooms for a trendier medicinal mushroom, like reishi or chaga, or for whatever your grocery store has. You could also use the same method to make other homemade broths, like vegetable broth or chicken broth.
Ingredients:
One carton of brown mushrooms (these are sometimes labeled baby bella mushrooms or crimini mushrooms)
One onion, roughly chopped
[optional] One cup of dry white wine (I used chardonnay)
8 cups water
Dried thyme, to taste
Salt and pepper, to taste
Garlic powder, to taste
Olive oil or another cooking oil
Recipe:
Saute the mushrooms in olive oil over medium heat for 10 minutes.
While the mushrooms are cooking, go ahead and chop the onion. I like to leave the skin on when I'm making broth (it adds a really nice color), but you can remove it if you want.
Add the onions to the pan, and saute for another 10 minutes (or 20 minutes if you decide to skip the next step).
Add your white wine, stir everything together and let it simmer for (you guessed it!) another 10 minutes to let the alcohol cook off.
Add 8 cups of water to the pot with your mushrooms. Add the thyme, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Turn the heat up to high.
When the water comes to a boil, turn the heat down to low and cover the pot with a lid. Let simmer for at least 2 hours.
When your broth is done simmering, use a sieve to strain out the mushroom and onion chunks and transfer the liquid to a clean container. Store the container in the fridge and use it in the same ways you would use vegetable, chicken, or beef broth when cooking.

💕Aphrodite's Water 💕
Tumblr media
This is a fruit-infused water recipe that I have affectionally coined Aphrodite water because of my personal associations with her and how I use this water. This is my UPG.
This is a simple recipe you probably already make, so why not add it to your magical and devotional routine; its ease of access, easiness to make, and versatility make it a powerful potion, great for spells, or an offering.
How it is Used:
As a potion: tailor the fruits to taste and desired magical & health properties. I drink this to connect with Aphrodite and increase my feelings of beauty, self-love, and increase my libido. I am also actively trying to be healthier and it's a good replacement for unhealthy beverages. I often combine drinking this with self-care and self-love rituals dedicated to Aphrodite. It creates an atmosphere.
As an offering: say a prayer to Aphrodite as you prepare it and offer it to her. I will typically keep this on my altar and pair it with rose quartz and sea shells.
Spells: when using for spells, I especially like to use rose petals as a garnish because I feel like it pleases Aphrodite (and me) but it's optional.
Best used in spells for abundance, fertility, self-love, romantic love, and attraction.
Use it to create a spell jar; in this case, I often add flower petals and herbs. I will often also add incense ashes or essential oils in scents associated with Aphrodite such as sandalwood. Depending on the spell, I may write something on a piece of paper and have it dissolve in the water.
Use it to extinguish spells involving fire: when burning bay leaves, or other ingredients for spells as mentioned above, I will extinguish the fire with this water.
Fruits To Use:
*many fruits/plants can be associated, but not all "infuse" the water well enough for it to taste good if you're drinking it.
Pomegranate: said to be first planted by Aphrodite herself.
Strawberries
Raspberries
Blackberries
Figs
Apples: we all know that famous story
Watermelon
What's needed:
Water
Ice (optional, but recommended if you're drinking it)
Lemon, lime, or oranges
Your choice of fresh or frozen fruit that is associated with love, lust, beauty, or sex
Reusable straw (optional, but recommended if you're drinking it)
Rose petals for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
Mix a generous amount of freshly squeezed lemon, lime, or orange with water as a base. Add your fruit and ice, shake/stir, then done. For some fruit choices, you may have to allow it some time to infuse. I recommend using a straw as citrus can be hard on your teeth if you're drinking it.

✨Lucky In Love Strawberry Spell✨
Feeling a bit lost in your love life? Hoping to find a group of friends who really get you? Perhaps you’re looking to draw that special someone into your life? Strawberry can help with that.
Strawberries have many magical associations, among them are love, affection, pleasure, and devotion. They make a handy friend when it comes to drawing love and care into your life. This recipe combines strawberries with lemon’s powers of friendship, love, and new beginnings, along with their shared element of water to create a delicious beverage that you can imbue with as much or as little magic as you see fit. Magic aside, this recipe yields a very tasty end result.
✨Beverage Supplies✨
🍓Blender
🍓Fine Mesh Strainer (optional but recommended
✨Magical Supplies✨
🍓Rose Quartz for Love
🍓Green Aventurine for Success in your Venture to Find Love
🍓Clear Quartz is always a good substitute for any crystal you don’t have
🍓1 Small Pink or White Candle
✨Ingredients✨
🍓1 Cup of In-season Strawberries (frozen would work too!)
🍓Juice of Up to 2 Lemons
🍓Sugar or Simple Syrup to Taste
🍓1 Quart Filtered Water
✨Instructions✨
1. Make some magic. Light your candle and bring in your relevant crystals.
2. If using fresh (and not frozen) berries, wash em! Then remove the green berry tops.
3. Cup the prepped berries in your hands over the blender cup. Visualize a pink mist flowing from deep within you, surrounding your hands and the berries, shrouding them and embedding them with your magical purpose. If you have a mantra, this would be a great time to say it, either out loud or in your head. “I draw love to myself and I deserve the love I want.” Visualize yourself surrounded by new friends, or in the thrall of a new and satisfying lover. When you feel that you have completed this, plop the berries in the blender cup.
4. Juice 1 lemon. While doing so, visualize squeezing the magic out of the lemon and concentrating it in the juice. Add the juice to the blender cup.
5. Add a couple tablespoons of sugar (not too much, you can always add more later) to the blender cup, imagining that you are sweetening the spell, calling the sweetness of love to yourself.
6. Add the water to the blender cup, and then blend until extremely well combined, long enough to dissolve the sugar.
7. Taste, and adjust for acidity and sweetness. Blend again.
8. When you are satisfied with the flavor, strain through a fine mesh strainer to remove the gritty seeds. Or don’t! It’s optional and I myself don’t always do it.
9. Enjoy your beverage, making sure to savor it. Just like strawberry season, love is sumptuous, and can feel impossibly far off during the lean months. But the changing of the seasons assures us that the strawberries will return, and love will come again.

Low-Effort Golden Milk
I saw a recipe for golden milk on Quincy's Tavern TikTok, and I decided to give a it a go with the ingredients I had around the house but being in a low-functioning depression stage right now I was not about to use the stove.
Here's my depression friendly take on Quincy's recipe :)
Ingredients: (Only 3!)
Milk (whole works best imo but any type of milk is okay for this)
Tumeric powder (If you don't have any on-hand these same-day options from Amazon are good: McCormick Turmeric Powder and Golden Milk)
Honey to taste (sweetener alternatives work but honey dissolves the best)
Optional: Chocolate flavoring (I personally like to add Rebbl Chocolate Protein but it is a bit of an acquired taste 😅)
Making It:
Get a microwave safe mug of your choosing! Size of the mug of course depends on how much milk you'd like. Fill the mug most of the way with your milk, if you are going to add the optional chocolate leave some room in the cup.
Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric. Turmeric can be a strong spice so always taste test before adding more!
Microwave for 30-45 seconds. My microwave is an absolute beast so it doesn't take long- you don't want to curdle the milk but a film on top is okay.
After microwaving you can add in your chocolate flavoring of choice and honey to taste! If it isn't warm enough pop it back in for another 30 seconds.
Woooo 🥳 you now have golden milk!

Elderberry Syrup Plus
3 cups water
1/2 cup dried elderberries
1/2 tsp dried ginger
1 cinnamon stick or 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 Tbs rosehips
1/2 cup honey – raw honey is preferred*
Directions:
Bring water to boil in a saucepan, add in elderberries, ginger, cinnamon, and rose hips and reduce to a simmer.
Simmer for 30-45 minutes or until liquid has reduced by half.
Let the syrup cool.
Strain through a fine mesh sieve, cheesecloth, or muslin.
Add in the honey once cool and stir.*
Store your elderberry syrup in a jar in the refrigerator. Alternatively, you can make large batches of elderberry syrup and can them or freeze them in mason jars.
Keeps for 2-3 months
Dosage: Preventative: 1 Tbs/daily for adults, 1 tsp/daily for children over 1 year.
When Sick: 1 Tbs/2-3 hours for adults, 1 tsp/2-3 hours for children over 1 year.
* Warning: Babies under 1 year old should not have honey
What to do with the lefover elderberrues after making the syrup:
Place used Elderberries into a pot. Add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil.
Once boiling, remove from heat and let sit 10 minutes.
Allow mixture to cool a bit and then strain.
Add in sweetener and enjoy.
If you aren’t ready to drink your tea right away or you do not want 4 cups worth, I recommend storing in a mason jar in the refrigerator. When you are ready for tea, just heat it back up or drink it cold.
Dosage:
As this is nowhere near the strength of Elderberry Syrup, there really is no need for dosage.
A cup a day is what we usually do.

morning witches!!
made lavender lemon cookies from components harvested in my yard and wanted to share the process!!
this is a fun witchy activity. lavender helps promote relaxation, happiness, cleansing, peace, protection,  and purification. lemon helps promote mental clairty, joy, and is also good for cleaning. together, these are very spritely, joyful cookies!
so, heres the box of lavender and rosemary I harvested yesterday.
Tumblr media
then i remembered we have a lemon tree! so i grabbed some of those too and took down a bundle of lavender i had been drying to make cookies :)
Tumblr media
then of course you have to zest the lemons and squeeze a lil lemon juice (for later, its not required for this recipe.)
Tumblr media
next, you get the dried lavender off the stalk, boil a little with sugar and strain to make simple syrup, and set the rest aside for later!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
after that you can get down to the making of the dough, you will need:
1. 1/2 cup white or brown sugar
2.1/2 cup butter
3. 2 eggs
4. 2 1/2- 2 3/4 cups of baking flower (i used gluten free, ill talk about the Consequences of that later)
5. 2 tsp double acting baking powder
6. 1 (or more ;0 ) teaspoons of vanilla extract
7. 3 tbsp lavender buds
8. 2 lemons worth of zest
instructions:
1. cream the butter and the sugar. to cream, you can use a pastry cutter, potato masher, stand or hand mixer, or just be really aggressive with a spoon. combine them untill there a fluffy homogenous mass.
2. beat in the eggs, flour, baking soda, lavender, lemon zest, and vanilla.
4. make the dough into a ball and wrap in saran wrap. put it all in the fridge for 3-4 hours to chill.
5. after its chilled, get a clean cutting board, hopefully a larger one without those little rims to catch juice.
6. preheat the oven to 375° Fahrenheit,  or about 190° Celsius
7. flour the surface you are working on, your hands, and your rolling pin lightly. then begin the process of flattening the dough with the pin.
8. once dough is nice and flat, descend upon the dough with FUN SHAPE COOKIE CUTTERS!!! yay!!!
9. keep collecting the little dough bits that dont quite make it into thr cookies, ball them and roll em out more. do this till u have very little dough left, which you can shape into a little circle and add to the baking sheet (or just eat it, hehe.)
10. either add parcment to or grease and flour a cookie baking sheet.  then place the cookies on the sheet and pop em in the oven for 7 - 12 minutes.
unfortunately, i did not get a picture of the dough as i am a goon and a fool :( but i took a pic of the cookie cutters!
Tumblr media
Now, its time to make the icing! I made boiled icing and due to a unfortunately sized saucepan, covered my entire kitchen in sugar. SO PLEASE USE A MID SIZE SAUCE PAN, NOT A TEENY ONE LIKE I DID.
the process goes as follows:
you will need:
1. 2 cups sugar
2. 1 cup water
3. 2 egg whites
4. 1 tbsp lavender simple syrup
5. 1 tsp vanilla extract
6. (a little zest and lavender buds, if desired)
instructions:
1. combine water, sugar, and syrup in the MEDIUM (i cannot stress that enough) saucepan. cover on a medium heat for approx. 3 minutes, till all sugar crystals dissolve.
2. uncover and grab a candy thermometer. bring the sugar to a boil and keep an eye on the temperature, stirring often.  the temp you are looking for is BETWEEN 238-240 DEGREES. the sugar should create long, delicate spindly strings when you take spoon outta the water.
3. turn the heat off. take the egg whites and beat UNTIL FOAMY.
4. this is where you must use an exceeding amount of caution unless you want chunks of cooked eggwhite in your glaze: pour the hot sugar mixture into the egg in a THIN STREAM, STIRRING CONSTANTLY.
5. once thats all mixed, add vanilla, and lemon + lavender if desired.
glaze pic:
Tumblr media
when the cookies are done, put a little glaze on each one of them to create a tasty clear coating. additionally, if you make the cookies with GF flour: PUT ON THE GLAZE BEFORE MOVING COOKIES OFF THE PAN. the GF flour is a little less able to keep its shape and will fall apart on you if you dont put thr glaze on to keep it together. put the glaze on. let it set. theres a reason so few of my cookies are in this picture of the finished product:
Tumblr media
HOPE YOU ALL ENJOY!! hope this helps,
Blessed Be!!!

✨Magical Motivating Strawberry Rosemary Sorbet✨
Having trouble sticking with a project or a daily practice? Do you have big plans but you’re not quite sure how to start? Might I suggest a delicious strawberry spell!
Strawberries contain the magic of devotion to fertility (and no I don’t mean it that way.) You can ask strawberry to help you devote yourself to a meaningful practice where you may not see the fruits of your labor for a while. Think learning an instrument, starting a business, or sticking with actually journaling every day.
Reproducing primarily through runners, strawberry gives of herself until the young plants are well established, and can even support the runners into maturity if there is no viable soil around. Strawberry is all about support and follow through. The mantra I used for this spell follows that logic. “I see my projects through and give of myself what is needed of me.” Here’s hoping this gets me motivated to finish my web design project!
Sorbet Supplies✨
🍓Blender
🍓Ice Cream Maker
Magical Supplies✨
🍓Candle (orange for motivation, or white for general purposes)
🍓Crystals (tiger’s eye for shaking off lethargy, amethyst for purpose, and a clear quartz point to direct the energy. It’s also fine to not have crystals!)
Ingredients✨
🍓2 Quarts of Strawberries (ideally fresh and in-season, but frozen or out of season will work too!)
🍓Juice of Less Than One Lemon (to balance flavor)
🍓Pinch of Salt (to balance flavor)
🍓Fresh Rosemary (1 medium sprig) (to protect your intentions)
🍓1 cup of sugar
🍓A few tablespoons of water (just enough to make a simple syrup with the sugar)
🍓Fresh Chamomile Flowers for Garnish (or an extra couple rosemary needles or skip the garnish)
Instructions✨
1. Make some magic. Light your candle and bring in your relevant crystals.
2. If your berries are fresh and not frozen, wash em!
3. Decapitate your berries (cut the green tops off.) You can use a little knife or melon baller or even your thumb nail.
4. Enchant your berries. Hold as many of them as you can in your cupped hands and imagine an orange mist swirling around them while you say your mantra. When you’re done, drop them in the blender and blend them until consistent, then add to a large mixing bowl. (If you have too many berries for the blender cup, blend the berries in batches.)
5. Mince the rosemary. You should have about a tablespoon minced. Then, cup the minced rosemary in your hands and enchant it with a white light of protection. Then add it to a saucepan.
6. Add your sugar and water to that saucepan, with the heat on medium high. Make sure you add enough water for it to be a syrup and not a caramel. Maybe 3-4 tablespoons, maybe more. Stir to dissolve, and then turn the heat down to very low and simmer for 5 minutes. Turn off the heat and rest the syrup with the lid on for a few minutes to let the flavor infuse.
7. Add 2/3rds of the syrup to the strawberry purée along with a tablespoon of lemon juice and a pinch of salt. Stir to combine. Stir longer than you think you will need to, because the mix is thick and the flavors won’t distribute unless you distribute them with purpose. Taste, and then add more syrup if needed. It should taste slightly sweeter than you would like, because freezing mellows the sweetness. Keep adjusting and mixing until it tastes right.
8. Add it to your ice cream maker and churn until thick but not totally set (it’ll finish setting up in the freezer.) 15 minutes to a half hour. Freeze for at least 2 hours before scooping.
9. Scoop and garnish with edible flowers or leftover fresh rosemary needles.
10. Eat with intent :)
