the absolute funniest thing is me worrying if i'm too much regarding how much i love my deities and meanwhile the deities i worship are like
hey i'm giving you a sign that i'm thinking about you
i'm also giving you a sign that i love you and i'm around you
i'm also giving you some of my energy to sit with because it makes you happy
i'm listening to every word you say in your prayers to me
i'm reminding you to take care of yourself because i care about you
i'm a spirit that's as old as time itself and i still find time to spend with you because you're important to me
and that doesn't even cover the blessings

When i was a beginner at witchcraft and paganism back in 2019, witchtok was at its peak popularity.
And i remember seeing those tiktok skits where witches re-tell the messages they got from their deities in an overly simplified way.
Then i was wondering... How the
f🐬ck did that witchtoker's deity just tell them: ,,i want waffle fries!"
Beginner me was so confused 😵‍💫
So what i want to say is:
Don't be fooled. Sometimes witchy influencers (specifically TikTokers) try to oversimplify the messages they get from their deities, in order to fit them in the 15 second video format with a meme audio for comedy.
Don't be insecure if you don't get deep meaningful messages about your gods! ❤️ We are all different. Some of you maaaay get such messages, some may not! That's oki!

I feel the need to say something. Whether that's because someone might need to hear it, or I just need to get it written down, I don't know and likely never will. Be warned that this post might come across as a little vent-y despite that not being its purpose.
Moral of this post in case you don't want to read it all; the gods are patient. They are kind. Sometimes, in ways you don't expect.
Currently, I am overthinking something. Badly. I can feel it boiling over, and at first I tried to keep it hidden from Loki because I deemed it cringe or bad. Unlovable in some way. (even though I make a point to never label anyone else cringe, this label is often applied to me when I feel self deprecative.)
Eventually I just gave up, because I figured they'd already seen it, and I admit I vented about it. They sat with me and listened, and I could feel that he's just... Distraught. Horrified that I think this part of me is unworthy of existing. He hates that I won't let him help, either.
But the reason I say that the gods are patient is this; I have yet to do a reading about it. I don't allow much in the means of direct communication when I'm talking about it, because I "could just be imagining it" and no matter what stance they take it's either what I want to hear or what I'm afraid of. Both of which I could see myself imagining.
Loki WANTS to help. I can feel him getting antsy, kind of. I almost finally grabbed my cards to do a reading with him tonight, but I'm too tired right now and, admittedly, I'm procrastinating. This is something I am actively beating myself up about, and Loki could absolutely be cruel. They could be my worst fucking nightmare. I know they won't, logically, but emotions are not often logical.
And yet they wait. They're sitting with me right now, I can feel it- and they're going to give me all the time I need. They're a deity, they have all the time in the world. If this were a human friend, and I had vented about this but not been willing to listen to their opinions, I know damn well I would not be given the time I need to prepare myself for that conversation. But Loki isn't human. So they wait until I can pick up those cards and face the fear head-on.
I'm reminded of someone saying that Loki will push you to be far more than you ever knew you could be. I think that's true. But I also think that there's something to say about how patient they are, just... Letting us grow ourselves, walking alongside us while we're fucking terrified, and understanding that these things don't happen overnight.

the biggest thing I’ve gained from my practice is the ability to let myself feel
i spent so much of my youth terrified to feel anything and then i started my craft and reading about ancient deities who were flawed and beautiful and who let themselves feel whole heartedly and suddenly i wasn’t as afraid of the rage or sadness I’d kept inside for so long
suddenly i could let myself feel it all without letting it overtake me

Casual ways to connect with your deities
-Pray to them or just just talk with them and tell them about your day
-Light a candle and say your thanks
-Offer your meal/snack to them or bake/cook with them or for them
-Watch a movie in their honor
-Offer your morning drink to them or make a cup for them
-Assign them a plant and take care of it as a devotion to them
-Listen to music that reminds you of them
-Say good morning/good night
-Thank them for the things you see that you consider beautiful

at the off chance someone is out there thinking this: your deities won't think you're "too much" for being passionate about them. just because someone or some people have called you this, means nothing regarding your worship of deities. your passion is welcome. your presence is welcome. your devotion is welcome. your worship is welcome.

Quick reminder for both new pagans and experienced pagans: it's normal to not always feel a deity's presence, and it's normal even if you never feel their presence. You're not doing anything wrong.

Being pagan is really funny sometimes because I was in a car with a (very wonderful and skilled) 16 year old driving recently, and at one point because our town is chaotic they had to make what was essentially a glorified U-turn in the middle of a busy intersection.
Cue me, despite not working with Hermes, mentally going "Hermes!! I know I don't work with you but you're cool and I am familiar enough with the Greek pantheon to feel comfortable just kind of saying hi to you guys, please keep us safe I am stressed-"
As they turned, my friend just said "Okay guys, fucking pray" and it took all of my self control not to blurt out "I just did."
I still told them later, though, they thought it was hysterical.

I love seeing prayers and stories of devotees who worship Gods that I don’t worship.
Actually, I’ve always been like this.
I love hearing the tales of religions that I don’t subscribe to. Even if I don’t agree with every Christian, I do enjoy hearing Christians talk about how wonderful Jesus is and what he means to them personally.
I enjoy hearing Muslims talk about their prayers, how they reserve time out of their day for their God.
I enjoy hearing Jews sing their psalms, I love hearing about how they prepare their food, how they consider God’s hands in their meals.
I love hearing about Hellenic rituals and Semetic celebrations. I love learning about the different holy days among different groups of pagans.
I love learning how different people have incorporated different Gods, acts, and customs into their faith. I love hearing about their myths and legends, the stories they tell their children before bed.
I love hearing about the different ways that humanity has connected to their personal idea of God.
I don’t worship Apollon or Shiva today, but I am so delighted to hear the prayers of those that do. It’s like I’m getting to feel the mist erupting off of a waterfall. Or hearing the echo of a song that I do not know the lyrics to, but I can still hum the melody. I can feel the notes permeate my mind, even if I don’t know what they mean.
I love that there are people who worship these Gods that I do not worship. I’m happy that there is so much diversity among humanity that we have enough love in us for all of them.
For the ones that even I don’t know the names of, or felt the warmth of. Someone has.
That’s a very very good thing.
