Ten Books to Know Me:
@chubsthehamster put out a "participate if you want to" call, and I fucking love books, so why not! 1. Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, by Susanna Clarke - Read this first in high school and it rewired my brain. Dense, intricate, a November day of a book, it is about the inequities of class, race, gender, and also about the dry stone wall down the lane and its intimacy with the ivy that's grown over it for the last century. There are magicians and academic confrontations.
2. Food in England, by Dorothy Hartley - Read this a year out of undergrad. This is the book that convinced me that I could actually do something worthwhile with my interest in history. It was also fundamental in kicking a few chunks out of my ivory tower, but that's probably a personal take-away rather than anything essential to the book. Learn a few hundred small practicalities that may or may not be applicable to modern life; you decide.
3. Sabriel, by Garth Nix - The first book that spoke to baby's latent goth tendencies. The worldbuilding still lives in the back of my head. Made me interested in WWI history. Read it in middle school, I think? It was such a breath of fresh air, and I admired the protagonist and her self-discipline and self-reliance so much. Probably the first book that made me really worry whether the characters would survive until the end, and boy howdy was that formative. Zombies, quests to save fathers, learning that the legacy you thought was a burden is actually your calling.
4. Ombria in Shadow, by Patricia A. McKillip - Read in undergrad, I think? I reread it a couple times a year. It's a go-to story for when I need something comforting and decadent. I love the gauzy quality of the worldbuilding, the understated approach to very real-world dangers. A royal bastard, a former royal mistress, and a sorceress' apprentice race to protect a child king and save the and the living soul of a city.
5. The Sandman, by Neil Gaiman, et al. - This story got me through my late teens and early twenties. Exactly the right flavor of tragedy to grab my brain and shake it like a maraca; fundamentally changed how I look at stories and narratives. Person-shaped cosmic mechanism denies personhood, falls face first into the hole he's been digging for himself for a billion years, hitting every consequence on the way down, and finds a morsel of peace at the end.
6. Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio (聊齋誌異), by Pu Songling (蒲松齡) - I read this first while doing research for a fanfic and came away hungry for every bit of "classic" Chinese literature in English translation I could find. I've always had a fondness for supernatural anecdotes (The Fairy Faith in Celtic Countries, by WB Yeats, etc), but this is on the list because it was the initial experience in an ongoing foray into classic and modern East and Southeast Asian literature.
7. Underland, by Robert Macfarlane - Read this a couple years ago. Everything you ever and never wanted to know about caves and being under the earth. The texture of Macfarlane's prose is unlike anything else, and he spends 500 pages leading you in and out of the dark.
8. Night Watch, by Terry Pratchett - This is my compromise instead of just listing every Terry Pratchett book. I read this when I was 12, and I mean it in earnest when I say it shaped how I think to this day. Pratchett's work is a load-bearing beam in my brain. Another grey book, but also lilac.
9. A People's History of the United States, by Howard Zinn - Okay look, LOOK, I know what you're thinking, but I read this when I was a teenager living in an extremely conservative pocket of a very liberal state. It made me think, which I was good at avoiding because school came easy to me and I usually didn't have to engage my brain at all to have the right answers. I wish with all my heart that I could write to the teacher who assigned it, because it was the very first time anyone had ever made me read history outside a history textbook. I resented that man so much at the time, but I owe him my current career.
10. Stiff, by Mary Roach - Read this as a teen and finally got answers about death I hadn't gotten in a lifetime of religious education. I think I actually snuck it into Mass, because I have a distinct memory of cramming it between the cushion and arm of a pew. Sparked an interest in death and human remains that lead me closer to where I am today.
Please consider yourself tagged if you'd like to participate! And tag me back so I can add more books to my tbr list, please! <3

Tumblr media
Hi Joey! Thank you for your request! Sorry it took a while. I hope you like your matchups!
In Jujutsu Kaisen, I match you with...
Tumblr media
Gojo matches your extroverted energy flawlessly. But at the same time, everyone around is glad you’re there with your “chill dad friend” energy to combat his “chaotic wine aunt” vibes.
While he initially comes off as shallow, Gojo loves it when you get deep and philosophical. It gives him a chance to talk about serious topics that he otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to.
He feels like he can be himself when he’s with you and that means a lot to him.
Please speak different languages around him! He thinks it’s so cool. He’s convinced you’re always flirting with him, even if he has no clue what you’re really saying.
Feel free to mess with him in this regard. Say the most random and unhinged things in a flirtatious enough tone and he’s flirting back.
You can also occasionally switch it up and say something actually romantic just to keep him on his toes. He loves it!
Look at me and tell me this man isn’t a fan of vocaloid/k-pop/j-pop. He’s got his favourite songs but is always open to recommendations. He enjoys being able to dance around with you to his heart’s content.
In Ninjago, I match you with...
Tumblr media
Jay’s another one who is fascinated by your ability to speak several languages. I feel like he only speaks English, and a tiny bit of Spanish that he learnt in high school.
You may need to find someone else if you want to have a deep philosophical conversation that is more than one-sided. But Jay is happy to listen if you’re happy to ramble.
He does his best to keep up with the conversation and will occasionally say something so profound, you may need to take a minute.
Skating dates! Jay is absolutely a skateboarder and he’s so happy you are as well. He enjoys clearing his head by going skating with you, somewhere out of the way so fans don’t bother you.
He also enjoys watching YouTube with you. He doesn’t really mind what you watch; he gets invested in anything and everything.
Jay loves your figurine and stuffed animal collection. He thinks it’s really cool. I can see him as someone who has a figurine collection of his own so he likes comparing what you each have. He’ll pick up new figurines of you when he’s out and has the time.
In My Hero Academia, I match you with...
Tumblr media
Denki is absolutely a fan of vocaloid/k-pop/j-pop. He loves that type of music so much, especially the upbeat songs he can dance to.
Say anything in a different language and Denki is going to think you’re the smartest person on the planet. And then he’s running what you said through Google Translate so he knows what you said. The results are always interesting…
Much like Jay, I see Denki as someone who enjoys skateboarding. He likes being able to do cool tricks to impress you. Just make sure you take some Band-Aids.
When you go on skating dates, you’ll usually end up at a cafe somewhere. Denki’s also a fan of boba and he’s slowly working his way through the entire menu at his favourite boba place.
Loves playing games with you. Whether it’s tabletop RPGs, video games, or board games in general, he doesn’t mind.
He has a preference towards video games, but honestly, as long as he gets to spend time with you and have fun, he’s happy with anything.

Tumblr media
of course of course! it’s my pleasure doing this trade with you! thank you! anyways;
let’s start of with…
Tumblr media
𝐑𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐨𝐤𝐮 !
Tumblr media
-he could listen to you talk for hours upon hours. he would not get bored either, he would just stare at you with his intense yet comfortable eyes and urge you one to continue talking about whatever you’re talking about. he’d even ask questions or make connections to the things you’re talking about. it would be a pretty loud conversation between the both of you
-once he hears you speak another language he’s shocked at first, but then he becomes so intrigued and interested with it. he asks lots of questions about the language you speak and also asks what certain words are in said language. he mostly asks about words that he can use to compliment you. his pronunciation might not be too good but he’s trying!
-the two of you will never stop talking, it’s impossible for you guys to. people have tried to force the two of you to stop but it has not worked. as i said before he could listen to you talk for hours. he honestly just likes that someone is just like him, extroverted, can talk for hours, a loud talker, and optimistic
-the two of you are literally the father figures to a lot of people. you constantly have to remind the people you care about to do something and Rengoku would chime in like, “Yes! They also need to do this!” this often leads to a lot of people gravitating towards the two of you because of you guy’s warm aura. and being protective of others also comes with Rengoku being protective of you as well!
-he would never say anything rude about you, i don’t think he even can, he’ll shut down if anything rude comes out of his mouth when he’s talking about you. and he’d never leave you alone for a long time. but if there’s the small chance he ever does he’d reassure a million times and deny any negative thing your mind has came up with.
𝐆𝐨𝐣𝐨 !
Tumblr media
-once he hears you speaking a different language he becomes so intrigued and amazed, he thinks it’s so cool. he’ll kinda ask some unnecessary questions and will not stop asking them for days and days. he’ll ask you how to say curse words in the languages you know, i mean who doesn’t automatically learn curse words first when learning a new language?
-so we all know that Gojo is a very stylish man. he would totally match outfits with you. no matter what style you choose for the day, he finds a lot of your styles very interesting and can’t help but regularly buy clothing that fits whatever style he finds interesting , he’d sometimes even wear it without matching it you, he just wears it to wear it and because the style is cool. but i also think he would tease you with certain clothing styles.
-the two of you are literally so silly together. the two of you will just be outside together and everyone in a 5 mile radius can hear your laughter. he’d make you pull or help him pull some shenanigans with his students. and while the two of you are out you guys would randomly choose someone and point stuff out about them, or at least Gojo would.
-whenever Gojo is bored he’ll ask you something about whatever has your interest at the moment. he’s also one that can listen to you talk for hours, he’ll also add some stuff that reminds him of what you’re talking about. and sometimes he’ll tend to talk over you so that’s when you have to give him a little nudge and he’ll let you continue what you were talking about.
-we all know Gojo can say some teasing things, it’s in his nature to. but if he ever says anything that upsets you and makes you start overthinking he’ll drop the funny guy act immediately and genuinely apologize to you. he can’t stand seeing you act so cold and aggressive towards him.

RANT:
Why do central Asians make videos like this. Wtf do you mean by "quiet Asian". Oh what? Chinese people/East Asians just LOVE taking on racial abuse, they're just so docile and can't stand up for themselves! Right? Stop fucking launching orientalist bullshit at east Asians just so you can uplift your own country it's so cringey like y'all wanna be the goths of Asia so bad. Sorry I love central Asia and I don't want to generalise but I keep seeing this shit with all of the central Asians I follow on instagram and whatnot. "Quiet Asian" my ass, half of the Chinese people I know would beat the shit out of someone for screaming nihao at them. I almost got into a fight myself over racial abuse (I'm southeast Asian but still). The fact that she even labelled East Asians as "quiet Asians" girl please just shut up.

Boyfriends Webtoon: An Impression and Analysis
NOTE: Before you do read this, please note that I am Native SouthEast Asian (SEAsian) so I'm viewing it wholly from the perspective of someone who is SEAsian and living in SEA. The Artist is also a SEAsian trans guy from Indonesia and the characters in the webcomic are either SEAsian or East Asian. So I think there are some things that would fly over westerners' head (and yes, even western-based POCs cuz while our cultures may overlap, there are still variances. It's not a bad thing tho. It's just some things are different but nothing to worry about. It doesn't mean you are less Asian, just mean you are Asian in a different way).
A short impression and Summary
As a short summary, Boyfriends Webtoon is a lighthearted romcom story featuring a polycule of four guys who are basically the archetypal jock, prep, nerd and goth but they remain nameless aside from their archetypes (unless you go to the artist's patreon apparently, where they do have names. Don't follow the artist's patreon tho so idk what they are). They all go to the same college and it's pretty much just soft and cute moments, nothing heavy. The later part of the story also feature a polycule of four women too who are also archetypal jock, prep, nerd and goth. The two polycules interact as friends but still focus mainly on the guys, hence the title "boyfriends."
It's very tropey especially in the first half and it features a lot of pop culture memes but it's expected since the characters are based on pop culture archetypes. For the first parts, it feels too plotless, too general and very light to read. I can't say for sure though if it's done to ponder to a wider audience or if it's because of the artist's lack of experience in writing. In the later portions though, I think he's started making some liberties as there's already an established audience. I'm seeing more and more SEAsian easter eggs and the main characters are interacting more with others. The characters are starting to feel more animated and there's definitely improvement in how the artist writes his story. All in all, it's a fun read. If you're looking for stories that dive deeply into being queer and queer relationships, this one just isn't it.
2. On the characters and their cultural background
The bf polycule are exactly what their archetypes are so expect the tropes (won't explain that either) but I love that the artist interweaved some very common SEAsian dynamics into some characters in a matter of fact kinda way, which is nice especially in the later parts. SPOILERS AHEAD.
Jock (bf) is Vietnamese and has a thing for cooking. He's been featured making ca phe trung (Vietnamese egg yolk coffee), bahn mhi (Vietnamese baguette sandwich tho the word itself can also just mean bread) and Banh Bao (steamed buns). His graduation pic also featured his mom in Ao Dai (Vietnam's national outfit). He mentioned getting hand-me-down clothes before (THIS MUNDANE ASIAN THING IS BIG OKAY?! I'VE NEVER FELT MORE REPRESENTED) and he has a high-functioning older sister (who is the jock in the gf polycule). One time he's asked why he is like "so good at everything" and his reply was something like "trying having an older sibling who is an achiever." Out of everyone, I think he's the one with the most SEAsian easter eggs. He's also bi and we see him flirting with women too (at least before they were in a closed polyam relationship).
Prep (bf) is Singaporean though haven't seen anything particular Singaporean about him (others might. I admit, don't know much on Singaporean culture). I feel tho, he is written as the SEAsian rich kid at your school who "has to be good" at both studies and extracurriculars cuz their parents are mega rich. It hasn't been touched but this could be a really good way to address the very real asian issue of Asian parents expecting too much outta their kids simply because they provide for them. It is reflected in his chara too. Like the whole "am I likable" drama at the start is less imma drama queen and screams "I'm an SEAsian kid and parents expected too much from me so now I've set unrealistic expectations for myself" energy. He uses the rainbow flag but idk if it's used to mean he's queer in some way go guess what or if he's like gay.
Goth (bf) is Chinese while Nerd (bf) is Japanese but I think they pander more to East Asian pop culture that's like prevalent in SEAsian rather than actual JPN/CHN culture but ngl, I get why the cultural portrayal is watered-down. Japan (contrary to how Japanese were treated poorly and unjustly so in the USA due to racism) invaded Southeast Asia first during WW2. This led to destruction of infrastructure, hunger, abuse and even death of countless Southeast Asians at the hands of the Japanese military. China, on the other hand, is one of the biggest imperialist/neo-colonialist powers in Southeast Asia, right next to the USA (not to mention Chinese mainlanders are one of the biggest gentrifiers of SEAsian neighborhoods in SEAsia). There's stigma that's hard to process outside of pop culture, as well as a lack of insight on how irl Native East Asians actually live their lives. Nerd (bf) is pan though and Goth (bf) is trans. I think his transness is handled pretty well but since the artist is also trans, it's right up his alley.
As for the gf polycule, there's not much cuz they are fairly new characters. Jock (gf) also Vietnamese. Prep (gf) is Korean and a transwoman. Goth (gf) is Indonesian and Nerd (gf) is Filipino and trans/non-binary. Nerd (gf) used "hay nako" which is a phrase often used by us Filipino when we are exasperated or in disbelief. It's kinda funny though cuz after saying it, they go on to do the task the the phrase was directed to. (If that ain't Filipino, idk what is).
3. On the setting
Boyfriends webtoon is set on a College but on exactly where, it is up for interpretation. Interestingly though, everyone has different nationalities (Artist used nationalities, not ethnicity or race) so makes me wonder if they're like in an international school or something. But like because the setting is a blank slate, it can be set anywhere. Not to say this is a bad thing because again, panders to a more general audience, but it can also be a weakness since it's gonna lack nuances that are pretty clear when the setting is established. It's lost in translation.
A prime example would be western people mistaking Prep (bf) as a white guy even though he's actually a SEAsian rich kid and only SEAsians can truly see this nuance either through shared experience or like knowing people like him. But if say, the setting was established as in South East Asia, it'll be easier to frame his character.
4. On the language
I think I'd give the artist pretty decent points on this one. While it is true that the writing in general feels limited (partly too cause the story is quite simple), y'all have to understand English is not the first language of South East Asians. One thing I've heard people note is that sometimes the conversations feel like they are in group chats/chatrooms rather than speaking in a conversational level and that's a valid point. These people are probably native English speakers who speak the language very casually and it's understandable why they'd feel a dissonance cuz it's not the type of English they are used to.
But let's try to meet half-way. SEAsians rarely use full English in conversational levels. For conversations, English is often mixed together with the local languages like Taglish, Singlish, Kapampanglish and Chinglish and it is forced to adapt to our intonations and language quirks, or we just don't use English at all. Full English is only often used in formal school/office settings or when, you guessed it, talking to people in chat groups where only English is the shared language. US/UK-based conversational English isn't something we can acquire without actively looking for it and even then, it would be a totally useless skill aside from making online content that panders specifically to US/UK-based casual English speakers. I think it is unreasonable to require this type of English mastery to SEAsian content creators. Add up the fact that US/UK are SEAsian colonizers and English remained popular as a language here due to US/UK imperialism. While it is constructive criticism and I do think there is also room for improvement, it translates to insensitivity to people already trying to speak another language to accommodate you, at least the way I see it.
5. On themes
The theme of the webcomic is very escapist. From the pastel design to the very simple cutesy storyline, it doesn't have like this ~realistic queer experience~ energy to it but I think that's the point. It assumes a world that's pretty much the same as ours but virtually without any transphobia, polyphobia, homophobia and just general queerphobia. This is why we get scenes of Jock's mom calling all his boyfriends her future son-in-laws (as Asian moms often do when they see their daughters bring home a good guy) or like scenes where they are very embarrassed about the PDA (like queer PDA is gonna legit get you expelled in a lot of SEA countries or worse, you can go to jail). It's written very simply but its has a queer escapism theme of like "would be nice if my life and future wouldn't be on the line just for being queer." And while I'm not often into overly fluffy media, that theme is one hell of a mood.
6. Final Note
Honestly, I think that the allegation against this webcomic are blown out of proportion. I don't think it's like groundbreaking queer media but there's nothing particularly fetishy about it. It definitely is tropey though but that's also kinda the point. The characters are, after all, pop culture archetypes. I also feel it is like written for a younger audience but there's nothing particularly wrong about that either. If you like very light reads and meme energy romcoms, I would recommend it. But if you don't or if you tried to read it but didn't like it, that's okay too. A content that's queer doesn't have to be liked by all queer people. I just hope that if you don't like it, you are at least civil with those who do and don't fall into hate/cringe culture hole. On a personal note, I think I might read future chapters but what I like about it is the SEAsian tidbits I'm seeing in the later chapters. I don't wanna oversell that though lol (but considering how few SEA queer pop media we get, I'm taking it).

Hello! Welcome to our blog!
Just to let y'all know, we're a diagnosed DID system. We're bodily 21 rn and generally use any pronouns? We're Southeast Asian. We're also bodily diagnosed autistic.
The pronouns part really depends on the alter who is fronting, though. I'll list it here so that it makes it a lot less confusing for all of you.

She's probably either gonna hire a seamstress or learn sewing herself so she could have long-lasting clothes that lasts throughout the 2020s.
- Doesn't have a blog yet, she might make one. I'll send her a message about it soon.
Yeah, it's obvious the photos are from The Sims, but it's a good way for us to create ourselves without, you know, using actual irl people as faceclaims. I just don't think that's right. Plus, it does look accurate to us already when making ourselves in the game.
The content we might post or reblog might have CPTSD themes, self-deprecating humour, self-help, or just posting anything we feel like it. Fortunately, there is no gore or super explicit content we'd reblog. Just be wary of it. We also tend to use we/I interchangeably tbh. This blog is more of a space or public journal to us, it doesn't mean we want to reveal everything about our lives though.
I usually don't do DNI, but I kind of felt it was necessary for this blog.
Please don't engage if you're:
- A tulpa or an endogenic system
- Being dismissive of agnostics or ex-muslims' experiences (I will call you the FUCK out of this especially if you were never a muslim.)
- TERFs, radfems. (This also counts if you think that all cis men are bad, all trans men are good. This can be very transphobic towards trans men, and you'd be treating them like woman-lite or invalidating their identity as a man)
- If you PRESSURE us and continuously text us after not chatting for a while. We have a horrible memory, let alone have different dynamics when it comes to friendships. While I may be comfortable having a chat with you, someone like Ari would perceive this as a form of clinginess, and you'd be scaring them away or making them stressed out. Please wait for our response before messaging us again. DO NOT CONTINUOUSLY BUG US WHEN YOU DO NOT HEAR A RESPONSE YET.

Roundup
Blah Blah:
First one of these things in ages... Been a busy summer. I feel like I should have more to say but honestly I don't. Mostly just been hanging out with DD and playing a lot of bass and drums.
Oh yeah, I hurt my back this past Saturday. It sucks but I think it's finally starting to feel a bit better.
-
Muzak:
Funeral - Ultra gloomy 90's death doom/ funeral doom from Norway. I hate to admit this, but the full-on "goth metal" album they did back in '06 is probably my favorite thing they've ever done but their earlier, more DM influenced, material is great too.
-
Ghast - Skuzzy Welsh black metal/ doom. I was fucking obsessed with this EP when it came out and recently rediscovered it while digging through my CDs looking for something else.
-
Skitliv - Kind of the same deal as above, loved this album back in the day, forgot all about it for a bunch of years, then rediscovered while I was trying to find something else. Dudes from Mayhem and Shining playing industrial tinged doom with a weird cameo from David Tibet.
-
Current 93 - So, truth told, I'm not the biggest C93 fan. I kinda dig his first two LPs and his fever dream lyrics, but his vocals have never done it for me. Like, at all. That said, there was a weird moment in the late 00's where he put out a couple albums that were, for lack of a better word, kinda... heavy. I've been digging those lately, especially his side of the split with Om.

-
Hjarnidaudi - Lumbering blackened dirge. This was on the absolutely amazing Paradigms Records back in the day. Same label that provided me with my first doses of Great Falls, The Angelic Process, Gnaw Their Tongues, Woburn House, etc. etc.
-
Jucifer - Mostly the song "Queen of Antlers" on repeat. Sounds like a lost Graves at Sea tune if the chorus was written by Velocity Girl.
youtube
-
Danzig - Seventh grade me wanted to be Glen Danzig so fucking bad... Not so much these days, but his first couple albums are evergreen.

Im autustic and find being outside and in the sun really difficult. The sun irritates my skin, brightness hurts my eyes, and the smells are too much. I also find bugs very scary, and they make me feel so itchy. I not get enough vitamin d, i take tablet but it not help much, do you have any tips on how i can make being outside more bearable?
I do! and feel free to ask "more sun tips plz" and feel free to ask for links to stuff and to clarify anything just ask anytime! cuz I could write a book on sun aversion tips but don't want to overwhelm you with too much info!
.
.
1 thing, Do you have trouble with extreme fatigue as well? do you not get refreshing sleep? / Do you NOT feel MORE well-rested when you wake up? If yes you may want to watch the very depressing documentary on netflix or you can buy it on amazon called "Unrest" (plz plan to do something happy watch cute videos of puppies or kittens after watching "Unrest" it isn't a boring documentary but it IS VERY SAD ) you may have M.E. /C.F.S. which can cause EXTREME sensitivity to light and sound.
.
.
2 does your skin feel itchy / raw / and/or does your skin get oddly blotchy red/pink after just a few minutes of sunlight touching it? If yes It is rare in most people but like me you might have an actual allergy to sunlight it might be mild, might be severe, but its a real thing. For sun allergy doctors "prescribe" for that "UV therapy" AND TANNING which WILL INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF DEATH FROM SKIN CANCER. So many doctors are not very intelligent.
.
The best thing to do for sun aversion / sunlight allergy to sunlight is just avoid sunlight as much as possible, stay in the shade, use an umbrella or parasol to keep the sun off you and wear waterproof banna boat sport spf 50 for things like driving where a parasol/umbrella would be hard / dangerous to use.
.
.
***fun fact about sun allergy ***
If you indeed have an allergy to sunlight you are most likely part Ojibwea / Chippawa / Ottawa indigenous American AND/OR you are part "deep woods southeast Asian." like me!
.
Because these peoples have been in dark environments for over a millennia in the deep dense dark jungles/forests most of these peoples have a mild to severe allergy to sunlight.
.
idk about the southeast Asian but I know Ojibwa /chippawa people's the sun allergy gene is dominant not recessive so even if you are like 1/100th Ojibwea / chippawa you are likely to have some sun issues.
.
.
.
If you don't mind looking "weird" I HIGHLY SUGGEST:
you use an umbrella / parasol you can find them cheap at thrift stores or online on amazon they got some really cool-looking unique ones. Like goth ones and rainbow ones and dog ones and star trek ones!
.
.
Wear wide brim hats, there are wide-brim hats called "wide brim fishing hats with neck and face cover" you can find on amazon put what I "put in quotes" in the search bar on amazon to find them IF YOU HAVE A SMALL HEAD LIKE ME….I have YET to find a wide brimmed hat with face and neck covers for large -headed people if you find one online PLEASE SEND ME THE LINK THANK YOU my hubby is so ojibwea and has SUCH a large head!
.
.
I've even seen wide-brimmed hats for sale on amazon that have a little solar panel on top that has a little fan inside the hat to keep your head cool! how cool is that!? they weren't even super expensive..
.
.
sport arm guards are lightweight , do cool compresstion things for autistic people and can help a lot they are hard to describe so here's a link: .
what also might really help with sun if the sunlight hurts your eyes/ gives you headaches whether you wear sunglasses or not is big "old people over glasses sun glasses. some look a bit stylish…maybe?
.
I find this pair of sunglasses works better for people with larger heads and/or have large frame prescription eyeglasses:
.
.
.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ALL PEOPLE AUTISTIC OR NOT TO WEAR SUNGLASSES OUTDOORS DURING THE DAY AND SUNGLASSES INDOORS ALWAYS!
VERTICALLY ALL LIGHTS INDOORS ARE FLORESCENT AND HORRIBLE FOR YOUR BRIAN AND EYES / AND SENSORY ISSUES!!!!!1 - with love
.
.
.
.
I find this pair below of sunglasses works better for people with smaller heads and/or have small frame prescription eyeglasses:
.
.
wearing a sun protection mesh jacket / cloak / poncho can be good too
.
and if It was important for you to look more "normal" /professional :P cuz capitalism stinks
.
.
I've tried just about every type of suncreen the humans put out in stores and the best one by far I would say is waterproof sport ultra banana boat SPF 50 /SPF 100 spray
*and yes it is true technically no sunscreen is actually over SPF 15 , but what works, works.
.
.
.
The best thing I've found to deter bugs that doesn't smell terrible/ is toxic and/or inflames my allergies buy some organic coconut oil, a spray bottle. put in mostly water like one spoon full of coconut oil / or organic carrier oil of your choice with like 6 drops in a small spray bottle and 15 drops in a big spray bottle of "insect shield" essential oil
.
WARNING***you can spray this on the back of your head/ hair and cloths many essential oils can be harmful to pets so don't let any pets lick it off of you, avoid eyes and mouth and test a small area of skin before you spay it onto skin. .
Citronella smell can be harmful to dogs, Lavender smell can be harmful to cats, pine/cedar smell is harmful to rodents and birds! but these smells in shampoos, perfume, deodorant, colone, body splashes, soap can all help keep bugs away from you! <3
.
*peppermint oil is great at repeling spiders!
.
.
*these things will not be enough for deep woods / swamp areas I can recommend different bug-away things for those areas!
.
.
These also work great for bugs and I haven't HEARD of any pets having any issues with them
Flextail Gear Max Repel | Portable Rechargable Mosquito Repellant
or
clip- on thermacell
For noise i highly recommend "downbeats" they are special ear plugs that make background noise softer but you can still hear a conversation close up pretty well. because they have a nice clip on travel case and an extra ear plug if you loose one. . . .
and I think this is good for EVERYONE but is VERY VERY IMPORTANT FOR AUTISTIC PPL is at least 10min - 1/2 hour SENSORY BREAKS DURING THE DAY / AWAKE TIME!
there are many vibrating neck pillow, vibrating travel pillows if you can only do like a 15 minute break at work find one that does vibration for just 15 minutes at a time, or 30 minutes of time to work as an alarm.
USE BATHROOMS TURN OF THE LIGHT AND REST ON THE TOILET IF THERE IS A BIG ONE-PERSON BATHROOM AT YOUR WORK / HOME LOCK THE DOOR USE THE WHEELCHAIR ACCESS / ONE PERSON BATHROOMS IF NO ONE IN A WHEELCHAIR IS AROUND TO TAKE BREAKS! *for 15/30 minute sensory breaks . . .
what can ALSO really help sun allergy, sensory anxiety /dysfunction is DIET cutting out refined sugar and gulten! and some high oxalate stuff! I answered a question about diet like 6 posts below this one!
. . For vitmin D I recommend takeing a Vitmin D sublingual drop

could you maybe share some of your own experiences being asian american? experiences with racism, identity crisis, lack of seasian rep, etc?
What is this, an interview? Lol I’m kidding. But sure, I’ll share a little.
Grew up in California inside a predominately Southeast Asian/Chinese community. So the Chinese community was surrounded by us Mien, Hmong, Vietnamese, Lao, and Cambodian folks. Therefore, I never saw Chinese folks as being different from us (not that all Southeast Asian folks are the same) but rather, I saw all of us as just Asian people with different cultures.
Also, our neighborhoods and communities were mixed in and right next to Black and Latine communities too so it was very diverse. Of course, there was some white people around too but most white people you’d see were either the trashy or hood white. Suburban white would just pass by and you’d never see them at night. Think of urban, tighter-packed neighborhoods and apartment complexes with lots of Asian businesses, gas stations, and liquor/thrift stores with dark roads, dim lights, and the streets being full of homeless people, drug dealers, and sex workers at night. Sounds like a movie but it’s real for a lot of us. Interestingly enough, I’ve never seen a movie that felt really close to my experiences though.
Growing up, you either grew up into a gang, around gangs, or affiliated in some way. A lot of my folks were gang members but I never banged a set. I hung out with everybody, even with gangs that hated each other. So as you can see, that was my Southeast Asian rep. It didn’t matter what I saw on TV because real-life was different. But one person that kept me out of trouble was my uncle. He was a goth kid that loved anime and video games. Still does. It’s like during the day, I played video games and Yugioh with him then at night, hung out with the gangs. My youth counselor at the time told me I was like Peter Parker and Spider-Man when I told him all that.
Middle school, got into fights all the time. Got my first arrest. High school, calmed down. Got arrested again though. Got expelled too. College was cool because eventually I came across sociology and it made me realize that our lives ain’t just a product of where we happened to grow up but also a product of so many other factors that put us there. My fellow soc majors read the books but I lived them and that’s what made it so personal to me.
As for racism, man I got some from everybody. White, Black, Latine, even from other Asian folks. But I ain’t one to play the victim, I equally did and said racist things to others too. It is what it is, you know. You either admit your shit and grow from it or continue to deny and perpetrate it.
But regardless, I’ve lived a very fortunate and blessed life. Everything was a lesson that brought me to this point in my life where I have almost everything I could ever want. Not everyone can say this. And if you can’t say this yet, don’t worry. You will someday when a stranger asks you these same questions. Believe and manifest it.

[Image ID: A traditional drawing of an original character drawn from the shoulders up. She is a southeast Asian woman with with medium length, straight black hair, black lipstick, a nose stud, and a few hoop earrings. She is wearing a black jacket. She is looking to the side, her face visible over her shoulder as she looks down with a troubled expression. Beside her reads her name: Serena Evans, and her pronouns pronouns: she/?. The background is colored a light blue with a streak of pink that bleeds into the right side of the drawing. End ID.]
if you noticed me skip a day, no you didn’t <3 anyways here’s late-era Serena because I’ve never actually drawn her in the punk/goth- esque style she ends up with and it’s a GOOD look
