For me it’s a little bit weird with all the “golden skin”/“golden brown”/“brown” skin discourse because knowing white people my entire life, listening to them talk about themselves and each other, and reading the way they write really puts you off any type of grasping for straws. And I hope I’m not coming off terrible or rude to you or any other anons (cause I know tone gets lost in text), but I feel like the reality is all of these characters are white unless extremely explicitly said otherwise. White people’s definition of brown (and its variations) is simply different from the rest of the world’s. White people will go to Italy or Brazil for the summer, come back and call themselves brown because they’re temporarily a Fenty 330 instead of their usual 220. And Sarah is ABSOLUTELY using that to her advantage so she can have half a foot in, half a foot out with how much POC rep she has in her book. Golden skin, golden brown skin, and even flat out brown skin are all white unless she straight up says they’re not. Bryce Quinlan is a white woman. People drawing her as pale is wrong descriptively, but not whitewashing because she’s already white. And it’s not fans acting like we can only have white women MCs, it’s SARAH AND THE AUTHORS WHO ONLY WRITE WHITE WOMAN MCs acting like that. They’re the ones writing all their MCs as white women, it’s not some mass delusion going on in fandom, it’s a deliberate choice being made (which I’m actually not too upset about because I’d rather white women authors who have SERIOUS issues writing POC and especially WOC not make their MC black or whatever so that I and other black or whatever women don’t have to suffer through a wildly popular series being violently racist at its core instead of just in the periphery).
Again not to seem aggressive or rude, but that anon’s sweet naïveté just doesn’t work here. Sarah writes white women and white characters first, then after she gets backlash, darkens their skin a smidge to some variation of golden or brown so she can get away with POC rep without actually making her characters POC. It’s giving very much “Dumbledore was always gay” and I don’t want anon or others to get caught up in what Sarah is trying to do (and succeeding to do with some of her fans who don’t think critically).
I fully understand your frustration. Some white friends of mine went to Hawai'i a few years ago and after coming back they were tanned and did the obligatory 'compare skin tones' by holding their arm against mine and were like "look we're almost as dark as youuu!" Which, no. They weren't. So yeah, I get what you're saying about white people's definition of "brown." But here's the thing:
The vibe I got was that anon was a) young b) a POC and c) a reader, or at least someone who's read enough™️ to notice that most book protagonists are explicitly white, and someone who sought out representation. I know when I was younger I used to interpret characters described as tanned or "golden" as lightskin if they weren't too thoroughly described by the author, to fill the void of the lack of Black girls in escapist media.
So I don't think anon was trying to give Sarah undue credit or anything, I think they were simply someone seeking representation from a popular author with a large fandom an author who could've used her popularity to provide good representation but has chosen not to

no taking back
summary: it was only fun and games. but steve had other plans.
warnings: modern au, tooth-rotting fluff i guess, little but of swearing
+ olivia rodrigo’s sour album (stream besties), the movie tangled at the end because it just radiates as a comfort movie
yes a modern au !!! i just saw this on tiktok (the sour part, but the rest was my idea!) and thought it was so cute so it gave me an idea to make it as a fic, enjoy !!!
steve harrington x fem!reader
olivia rodrigo’s new album just released and you were thrilled to listen to it and stream it the whole day.
when you finally got to listen to it, you asked your friends—robin, nancy, and the party, if they listened to it and which ones were their favorites.
robin told you that her top three were hope ur ok, jealousy, jealousy, and brutal.
nancy said she really loved favorite crime.
max said hers was also brutal.
el told you that she played good 4 u and traitor on repeat that hopper had to go into her room to turn it down.
when mike comes over to the cabin he can assure that el does indeed play them on repeat and get pissy about it (but he secretly loves the album, but he wouldn’t let her or anyone know that).
and lastly lucas and dustin are fans of deja vu and 1 step forward 3 steps back. max even told you that they would sing the bridge of deja vu on the top of their lungs.
you slightly laughed at the memory of them telling you about it.
however, there’s one more person that you haven’t talked to about it yet.
steve.
your smile faltered and faded when he came across in your mind.
your feelings for him had deepened over the time and listening to the sour album made it feel like you two had broken up, which in fact, is not true because you were never together in the first place.
suddenly, an idea popped in your head. instead of being sad about steve, you thought about texting him, although it’s almost 1AM, you knew he’d still be up.

you rolled on your back after you read the message, facing the ceiling as your mind processed what just happened. was he playing with you? was he actually serious about asking you out?
Incoming video call...
Sailor Man
you took a deep breath before tapping the green button and placing it back down on the bed.
“hey,” you can tell that he was tired based on his voice. “can you show your face, please? i miss you.”
ignoring the butterflies in your stomach, you hesitantly lifted the phone and shifted your position to lay on your side. “hey.”
“hey yourself.” steve grins. that stupid grin that makes your stomach turn, that grin you always want to see everyday.
“what’s..up?” you avoided looking at him and started to admire your surroundings and the posters placed on your wall. this was the only time you were glad you weren’t with him in person.
“i just wanted to see if you’re okay.” of course he will ask that. he's steve. he cares about other more than himself.
“i am, thanks.” you showed a smile that doesn't reach your ears and steve knew something was bothering you. “hey, look. i'm sorry about my confession- if it made you uncomfortable i'm sorry-”
“no,” you cut him off, looking back at his face on the screen. “i’m fine, really. you don't have to apologize. i was just, surprised.”
there was silence between the two of you for a few seconds, before you spoke again. “did you mean it?” you voice was only above whisper but steve managed to hear them. “of course,” he answered almost too quick, without any hesitation. “i've been trying to find the perfect opportunity and had been asking god for signs because i can't make a move myself-”
“asking god?” you chuckled and steve smiled hearing them, glad that he somehow lightened the mood. “well, more like begging.” he continues and you giggled.
once your laughter died you both fell into silence again. you still couldn’t believe that out of a fun joke, it would turn into a whole another situation. “so, um.. just so you know, i’m not mad, or upset, or anything. i really was just surprised. it felt like a dream because i didn’t know that you like me back and all i did was just supposed to be a fun joke but—”
“hold on, back?”
“what?”
“like you back. you said i like you back.” steve sat up on his bed and fixed his hair as his eyes widened. “i did...” you said slowly, not catching up.
“does that mean you..”
then it hit you. “oh, right. yeah. i- i like you..too.” you waited for his reaction and once you saw him smile you couldn’t stop yourself from doing the same.
“i knew it. and well, i guess that confirms it. we’re dating now. no taking back.” he smirks then laughs when your rolled your eyes. “don’t flatter yourself, harrington. i did not say shit.” you pointed your index finger on the screen, barely containing your giggles.
“based on your beautiful smile i think you don’t need to say it. i like you, and you like me. we’re dating.” steve gives you a teasing smile. you tried keeping your serious face but it won’t last longer so you finally smiled again. “alright, fine. no taking backs. we’re dating.” you said then laughed as he whisper-yelled ‘yes!’ while fist pumping the air.
he soon joined your laughter and you stayed like that until your jaw was pretty much in pain because of your smiles. when it was all quiet again, you both just admired each other’s presence through the screens of your phones. “i wish i was there with you.” he mumbles. “yeah, me too.” you hugged your cold pillow beside you, closing your eyes for a moment and imagining it as steve.
“are your parents home?”
you snorted at his random question. “i’m actually alone right now, they’re out because dad got promoted at his work so he and mom and i think a few friends went out to celebrate. they should be home by an hour or two. why?”
“nothing.” was all he said before hanging up. you were left confused but then he’s your best friend after all, so you knew right then and there that he’ll do something stupid. after you turned your phone off you suddenly felt watching a movie so you went to the kitchen to make some popcorn.
when it was finished and had been put in a bowl, that’s when you heard your doorbell rang—in a pattern which you recognize, and only one person does that.
you let out a quiet laugh when you realized who it was and set the bowl on the counter before opening the door.
“hi!” steve greeted you with a smile. “uh, hi?” you laughed nervously and stepped aside for him to go in. “i smell popcorn, are we having a movie night?” he says as he steps inside and shrugged off his jacket. “actually yeah, i’m planning on watching—”
“tangled.” he finishes off, you subconsciously smiled upon hearing your favorite movie. “how’d you know?”
steve snatches a few popcorns from the bowl as you both arrived in the kitchen. “(y/n), you have watched that movie 7 times this week and always gush to me about it.”
“well, you’re the only one that is around my age that i can talk to with that movie. robin and nancy aren’t that into it.” you replied, grabbing the bowl and making your way back to your bedroom, steve following your heels. “and you think i’m the best option to talk to about that?” he asks, plopping down on your bed and resting his back on the headboard.
“you’re not complaining.” you shrugged as you grabbed your laptop and sat beside steve.
“yeah, probably because i like you.” it came out of his mouth casually. you froze in place and felt your cheeks heat up, finally nodding your head slowly, “..probably.” as you typed in the movie in your laptop you felt steve scoot closer, making your breath hitch.
you were both in a comfortable silence while watching the movie, except for a few jokes and comments that steve makes and him explaining how similar he was to flynn rider.
“you know, since i’m eugene, you could be rapunzel.” he suddenly says. you eyes were still on the screen but your eyebrows furrowed. “why? i’m nothing like her.”
finally looking at steve, you almost screamed how he was already looking at you. “oh, you are so rapunzel. you may not have the longest hair in the world, but you are pretty much similar.” he replies, smiling and not taking his eyes off of you.
you paused the movie and shifted your body towards him, intrigued by his explaination. “how so?”
“well, first off,” steve starts, resting his hands on the soft mattress. “you’re both sweet, you’re both a huge ray of sunshine, have gorgeous eyes and smile, and eugene is head over heels over you — and since he doesn’t exist in real life, i’d like to be the substitute.” he finished with a confident smile.
after about three seconds, you burst out of laughter. you laughed. as much as he loves the sound of your laugh, he can’t help but pout. “(y/n), i’m trying to be sweet here!”
“i’m sorry!- it’s just- i can’t help but laugh at your flirting.” you managed to say between your laughs. you know he’s kidding but he looked at you like he was offended.
your laughter died down and held steve’s face. “it’s cute, sorry.” you mumble with a little laugh. when he finally smiled you turned to your laptop and continued the movie.
steve gazes at you for a few more seconds before watching the movie with you again. “thank you.” you whisper, glancing at him.
“you’re very much welcome, my rapunzel.” he says smiling before he slides a bit down on the bed so his head could reach your shoulder and rests it there.
you giggled as you heard him whisper,
“thank you, olivia rodrigo.”

Some Scars aren’t Physical: PART 1
Tumblr media
Iida x GN! Reader
TRIGGER WARNINGS: Past abusive relationship (gaslighting, possessiveness, yelling), slight panic attack, swearing
Summery: (Y/N) had a terrible boyfriend in middle school. He was possessive, manipulative, and just plain awful. Since breaking up with Him, (Y/N)’s had pretty bad relationship anxiety. It’s so bad, that it makes them afraid to pursue their new crush: the kind, earnest class rep, Tenya Iida.
Link to Part 2
Masterlist
. . .
It only takes one bad experience to ruin something forever.
Take dating, for instance.
You hadn’t had many friends in middle school. You had Izuku, your friend since elementary school, and the people who sat next to you in class who occasionally talked to you. That was about it, but it never mattered. You were still happy.
Then there was Him.
He had been kind. Flattering. He laughed at your jokes and told you His own. You had been happier than you had ever been when you started dating. You spent long nights on the phone with Him, trying to smother your giddy laughter so not to wake the rest of your house. Then you spent hours recounting every moment of the conversation to Izuku, who always rolled his eyes playfully, remarking “As long as you’re happy, (Y/N).”
Then He changed.
It was a gradual shift. You didn’t even realize that something wasn’t right until a month or so into the relationship. It started with Izuku, funnily enough. He didn’t like how close you were with him. You had tried to calmly explain to Him that you were just friends, and had been friends for several years. He wouldn’t have it, though. He never outright asked you to stop spending time with Izuku, but He made it very clear that He didn’t approve of your friendship.
You didn’t want Him to be angry with you. You didn’t cut Izuku out completely, you couldn’t bear to. You did start to avoid him, though.
It didn’t end with Izuku, though. Next it was the classmates you occasionally hung out with. Next it was anyone He didn’t personally know. Next it was anyone if He wasn’t there.
Then there were the arguments. You were frustrated. You told Him that he couldn’t control you like this. But you couldn’t bring yourself to leave Him. Not when His counterarguments where oh so persuasive.
“Listen, these people don’t really care about you. They’re just going to hurt you. I just want to keep you safe. You trust me, right?”
The hurt look on His face was enough for you to assure Him that yes, of course you trusted Him. You weren’t sure how honest you were being, though.
Four months.
It took four months of loneliness, and anxiety for you to finally end it. It took four months of Izuku pleading with you to leave Him before you actually did it.
He wouldn’t go down without a fight, unfortunately. He went down in the end, albeit kicking and screaming. He had raised his voice at our before, but never like this. He had never screamed directly in your face. You’d never cried in front of Him before. You’d been good at hiding it, but the all the pent up anxiety and frustrations you were feeling spilt out when He shrieked at you like that.
He’d been suspended for two weeks. They were over all too fast.
He hardly talked to you when He got back, but you always felt His eyes. They seemed to follow you wherever you went.
Izuku stuck to you like glue. He was a nervous kid, and he never said anything directly to Him, but he was always there, offering you his silent support.
“Do you think you’ll want to date anyone else?” Izuku asked one day.
“No one from our class,” You rolled your eyes, surveying the middle school classroom.
“What about when we get to high school?”
“I don’t know,” You answered after a moment. “I’d like to be in a good relationship, but…”
Izuku frowned. “But?”
You averted your eyes, feeling His gaze burning a hole in the back of your head. “I thought He seemed good at first. Look how well that went.”
. . .
High school felt like heaven. It might’ve been grueling, and sure, villains showed up every other week, but He wasn’t there. Izuku was, though, plus you both managed to make a few other friends.
Iida was one such friend. The first thing you had noticed about him was that he was loud. You had never liked loud people, especially after what had happened with Him, but Iida was never loud to you directly. He was just loud in general.
A few weeks into your friendship with him, and you realized that he was incredibly earnest. He was dependable, and seemed to be one of the kindest, if also intense people you’d ever met.
He was also handsome.
You spent lunch periods staring at Iida’s large hands, wondering what they’d feel like in your own. You laid awake at night, hugging your pillow and pretending it was him.
One night, as you pictured him holding you, his gentle arms suddenly became tight and constrictive. Suddenly, it wasn’t Iida.
It was Him.
Your breathing became sporadic you threw your pillow onto the floor. You folded in on yourself, rubbing your arms to try to rid yourself of His lingering touch.
“I can’t,” You whimpered. “I can’t,”
You wanted to be with Iida, you really did. But He was still poisoning your mind.
. . .
“(L/N), are you doing anything this weekend?”
You hummed noncommittally at Iida, who was standing at your desk, waiting for you to pack up to go home.
“I don’t think so.” You shrugged. “What about you?”
“Well, a cafe recently opened near my home, I’m thinking of checking it out.” He said casually, eyes darting away. “Perhaps you’d like to come with me?”
“Oh!” You exclaimed, looking up at the boy. “Uh, yeah! That sounds fun. It’d be nice to spend some time with you outside of school.”
“Yes, I-I thought the same thing.” Iida readjusted his glasses, a pink dusting forming on his cheeks. “Is Saturday alright with you?”
About twenty minutes later, when you and Izuku were walking home from the train station, he asked if you wanted to do anything over the weekend.
“On Sunday, maybe.” You kicked an acorn along the sidewalk. “Iida and I are going out on Saturday.”
“Woah, really? Like on a date?”
“I- I don’t- what?” You froze. You replayed the conversation with Iida in your head. “Is it a date? Shit. I can’t go on a date.”
“Why not?” Izuku furrowed his brows in concern. “Iida’s really nice, I think you’d be happy with him. You’d have a good time.”
“Yeah, well we thought I’d be happy with Him too,”
Izuku flinched, understanding flashing in his eyes. “Okay. (Y/N), Iida is lightyears better than Him. Iida’s a super serious guy, but that makes him transparent. If he had ulterior motives, or even if he just seemed like he’d be a dick, you’d know it. Iida isn’t Him. At least go out with him this one time.”
“But I-”
“It’s one date, not marriage.” Izuku reasoned, placing a hand on your shoulder. “There are no obligations. Go out with him. If it goes well, then great! You can do it again, or, don’t. If it goes poorly, then end it there. You don’t have to tie yourself to Iida just because he’s showing interest in you.”
You raised a pointed eyebrow. “What if I’m not interested in him?”
“(Y/N).” Izuku deadpanned. “You and I both know that you are.”
You snickered a little, the sound coming out breathy and broken. “Ok. One date. We’ll see where it goes from there.”
. . .
Izuku knew you and Iida had it bad for each other. The staring longingly when the other wasn’t looking, the flustered laughing, all the goddamn blushing, there was a lot. It was torture watching you both dance around each other, but he knew it wasn’t easy for you. He had left his mark on you, even if it wasn’t a physical one.
Izuku wasn’t exactly thrilled to push you right back into dating when you obviously were uncomfortable, despite knowing that Iida could be a healing presence in your life if you let him.
So you were going on a date with him.
“It’s one date, not marriage.” He had said, trying to convince himself as well as you. “There are no obligations.”
Izuku knew Iida. He trusted him with his life, he just wasn’t sure if he trusted him with you. You, the closest thing to a sibling Izuku had ever had. You, who had stayed his friend even after you had manifested your quirk and he’d been left quirkless. You, who stayed by his side and defended him against Kacchan and his other middle school bullies.
You, who had been hurt before by someone you had liked.
Izuku groaned, flopping onto his bed. “Iida isn’t Him. Iida isn’t Him. He’s not going to hurt (Y/N). They’re going to be fine.”
It still didn’t stop him from constantly checking his phone, to see if you’d messaged him. Today was your date. He check the time again. 3:21. You should be home by now, or at least on the way. He’d told you to text him when you were home and tell him all about the date, but you might’ve forgotten. Maybe he should text your parents?
No. He was your best friend, not your father. He’d wait to see if you contacted him. If you didn’t, no big deal. He’d see you on Monday at school. Izuku very deliberately placed his phone face down on his bedside table. Deciding to go for a jog to get his mind off it, he began to change into his workout clothes.
Not two minutes later, his phone buzzed. Halfway into his gym shorts, Izuku scrambled back to the table, tripping over his own feet and hitting his head squarely on the bed frame.
“Shit!” He hissed, rubbing his forehead.
“Izuku?” His mother called. “Is everything all right in there?”
“Yeah, I just tripped. I’m okay.” He replied, feeling around for his phone with the hand not cradling his head. Much to Izuku’s disappointment, the text wasn’t from you.
Much to his surprise though, it was from Iida.
Iida: Is (L/N) afraid of me?
“Uh oh,” He murmured, fingers already flying across the keypad.
Izuku: wdym? Did something happen during your date?
Iida: Kind of? It went well, but (L/N) seemed really nervous.
Izuku: And you weren’t? Lol, it’s your first date
Iida: Well, yes of course I was nervous. (L/N) seems more nervous then would be ordinary in that situation, though.
Izuku: What exactly did they do?
Iida: They were very overly jittery. They looked apprehensive and guilty whenever we talked. At one point I put my hand on their arm and they flinched.
“Oh shit,” Izuku whispered. Iida wasn’t done, though.
Iida: The night ended well enough, I suppose. They seemed to have a good time, it just looked like they were too frightened to enjoy it to the full extent, though.
Izuku: You didn’t do anything weird, did you?
Iida: Weird how? All I did was talk to them. I offered to pay for their food, but they declined. I touched their arm, but once they flinched away I didn’t try again. We walked back to the train station together, and I offered to accompany them home, but they shot me down again.
Izuku sighed, rubbing his throbbing temples. It was a delicate situation. It wasn’t really Izuku’s place to tell Iida your business. So how was he going to tell Iida that you had relationship trauma without actually telling him?
Izuku: Ok, I don’t think you did anything wrong. (Y/N) gets nervous at the idea of dating, but I promise it’s not you. They’ve had bad experiences with dating, but they seem to really like you and want to try again.
Izuku: (Y/N)’s story isn’t mine to tell. If they feel comfortable giving you all the details, then they will. All you need to know for now is that their anxiety isn’t your fault. It also doesn’t mean that they don’t like you because I don’t think I’ve ever seen them as happy with someone as they are with you
Iida: I see. Their behavior makes a little more sense now. Thank you for telling me, Midoriya. I’d like to have a relationship with them, so on Monday I’ll talk to them and see if there’s anything I can do or stop doing to make them more comfortable. I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than I am when I’m with them either, in all honesty. I would hate to loose them over a misunderstanding.
Izuku chuckled, smiling warmly at his device. “What was I ever worried about?”

I kinda wanna write a better version of tlh where Tatiana is still insane but there's no Belial bc that makes zero sense to me
In this version there would be:
Kamanna done correctly with actual genderqueer rep and not toxic relationships
Barbra and Oliver bc fight me she didn't die
Genie and Filomena bc I love them and all the lightwoods are queer
The gracelet doesn't even happen bc I refuse to write that
Grace is pretty much still the same but she breaks off their(hers and james') relationship bc she notices that he loves Cordelia
No bad James. He's not a shitty person to Alastair, and he doesn't treat Cordelia like a sex object
Anna puts a stop to Kellington and Matthew's relationship before it gets serious. She also tries to get him to stop drinking all the time
Alastair apologizes around seeing them again for the first time. The merry thieves are a little reluctant because of some of the things he did but they don't actively try to keep him away from events that they're at
Matthew notices how Alastair looks at Thomas and locks them in the sanctuary with Genie and Cordelia's help
Grace gets badly injured due to a mistake in necromancy and Christopher helps her treat it without letting people know
Lucie meets Jesse, and falls in love ofc, so in order to bring him back successfully she asks Malcolm to train her in using her magic
Matthew opens up to his mom about the incident. She doesn't blame him at all and instead apologizes for often putting her work before him
Matthew finds out about Charles and Alastair because he found Alastairxs break up letter to Charles
Matthew, the mother hen he is, decided to attempt to murder his older brother, only being stopped by James who had been there at the right time
Kamala ends things with Charles and tells Anna that she still loves them and hopes that she will give her another chance
Anna told her that they needed time to think, and that she is worried how Kamala's reputation will be affected if anyone besides their friends and Anna's family finds out
Kamala respects her decision and doesn't contact her until Anna's ready to talk about things
The merry thieves don't ignore Christopher and they actively listen and help him
The merry thieves also aren't terrible to Grace bc they realize she's been isolated alone with Tatiana and 1) she might not understand what's saying/doing is wrong or 2) that sometimes she's trying to push them away so her abilities don't accidentally make them do something
Good tid parents
James and Alastair being respectful to each other despite personal differences
Matthew, Alastair, Kamala, Christopher, and Grace being besties, or as I call them, the neglected squad
No fetishizing mlm/wlw
Domestic cuddles and taking care of the other one when they're sick
Jesse/Lucie/Matthew pairing bc I love them and I refuse to pick between lucie/matthew and lucie/jesse
Christopher teaching Grace the elements(at the time) on the periodic table
Tatiana dies at the end yay
It's very unpolished and I'm open to b hearing any feedback and/or suggestions that anyone may have
The idea came to me and I decided it would be best if I told someone before I forgot
hi, I'm sorry it took so long, but I wanted to properly answer this and I keep having either internet connection issues or little time
DON'T BE SHY, WRITE THIS 👀
In all seriousness tho... THIS IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION?!? I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE TO START I AM UTTERLY IN LOVE WITH THIS IDEA, I NEED IT
Look, I've been on the verge of rewriting ChoI, and I keep saying I want someone to write a TLH that will live up to its potential, but I've never actually came up with a proper idea for it, and you?!! YOUR BRAIN DARLING THIS IS GENIUS
ok hold up I'll just react to each and every single one so
yes please?!? I mean it started off so sweet in EEV?! Also actually genderqueer Anna and not dancing around the subject like CC is doing now?! That's what they deserve, and that's what we all deserve too
yesss please. also just,,,, Barbara, the feminine, not-wanting-to-fight-which-doesnt-make-her-less-badass queen that she is, getting the page space and appreciation she deserves
that's actually brilliant?!? it would be so great, just imagine the new girl arrives for her travel year and Genie is completely awestruck. I'm so invested in Joshwood it's difficult to imagine not having them, but this is actually the only valid alternative?!
ok that's fine. I think it could still happen and be done well, but tbh for now... the gracelet doesn't seem to have done anything relevant to the plot itself? I mean yeah it messed up James's life and Jordelia, but what did it give Belial? Tatiana? nothing. It makes no sense atm.
could be! maybe she's still encouraged by Tatiana to befriend/seduce him, but without the gracelet it doesn't work out? or maybe James somehow manages to realize that she's in danger and he actually like,,,, kidnaps her? idk idk
yes. YES. just,,,,z James is a sweet compassionate literature nerd who accidentally makes a good leader and he actually cares about people, and not just judges them from his high horse; he does still have hero syndrome, but he's kind and respectful and overall a good character
ANNA INTERVENES ABOUT KELLINGTON PLZ. PEOPLE ACTUALLY NOTICE MATTHEW'S STRUGGLES. JAMES DOES, TOO, BECAUSE THERE'S NO GRACELET.
ok yes, so what about: basically TMT don't harass Alastair and accept his apology, and realize they were also being stupid and mean at times at the Academy (especially Math). Matthew doesn't want to accept Alastair's apology, because of The Sin, but his behaviour alerts the rest of TMT and they inquire what's wrong and he tells them about the sin and that's how he later tells his parents (because his friends encourage him) and as you say, she just hugs him and reassures him it's not his fault; so after that Matthew slowly begins to heal and accepts it wasn't Alastair's fault, and also since they've kind of adopted/started including Alastair in things, he can't help but notice he's actually changed and he even starts to grow fond of him
then like you said, Matthew notices Thomas likes Alastair PLEASE HE SO WOULD. I'm not sure about the Sanctuary, if it actually happens (I'll get to why later on), but him and Lucie get really invested in the matchmaking schemes, they include Genie/Kamala because these two are friends with Alastair (both? Or at this point only Kamala?) but they also share some Moments during their scheming/talking about love 👀 (yes I'm a Fairdale shipper, I think it's time to expose myself lol)
Which leads me to (sorry I'm going off order rn) YES YES YES LUCIE AND MATH PLEASE. A FELLOW SHIPPER, HELLO, NICE TO MEET YOU. But since we're actually fixing him then we can give Jesse a personality and I'm totally down for poly Math/Lucie/Jesse
Lucie seeking Malcolm's help in secret, morally gray heroine style?!? no, it's probably not legal. but also has there ever been a Shadowhunter like her? If the Law doesn't expect such situations, it can't really forbid them...
Plz Matthew ready to strangle the carrot when he learns about their relationship, YES. sure, maybe he's still not the biggest fan of Alastair, but he's seen how much the boy's been through and starts to develop an attachment to him, and besides, NO ONE DESERVES TO BE GROOMED AND TREATED LIKE THAT. He's SO MAD at Charles, and he confronts him about it - remembering Kellington as he does, and it makes him sick to think his brother would do the same thing to someone. Maybe he gets very emotional over this and later finally tells his friends about Kellington? Maybe they didn't know before, only Anna did? So when they all realize what was happening then they comfort him etc? Or maybe it's just Alastair that learns now, and the others knew before, and they share a bonding moment over that?
Injured Grace seeking Kit's help is a genius idea I didn't know I needed
Kamanna giving each other time and space and deciding they need to question their relationship and figure out if it actually makes sense would be great. Anna realising she's very privileged and Kamala doesn't have those same opportunities, and also in general realising coming out should never be pressured or forced. Just,,,, Anna being self-aware and respectful towards Kamala. Well-written Anna. Plz. Also Kamanna is actually developed and not just "in love" because,,,,, they're attracted to each other? Maybe even remaining friends while Anna makes up their mind?
yeah just TMT being more compassionate and less judgy because they're not written by Judith so her bias isn't projected onto them
It's not a want, it's a need. They adopt Alastair and Grace eventually. Like, maybe not literally - although, Grace? - but you know what I mean.
I think they all should just have various friendship dynamics and switch between them, because people need more than one friend group
no fetishizing, no watching your brother make out with his lover, yessss
yes domestic cuddles, affection, taking care of wounds, all those things. plz.
Gracetopher bonding over science yes
obviously. or maybe she's imprisoned?!
ok, now for some more notes/my ideas etc., if you don't mind:
I actually think Belial could still be featured? After all, I don't think Tatiana could do much on her own, and since she seeks help from demons, it makes sense to include a Greater Demon as well. But Belial would have to be a stronger villain, written better; I'll think more about this
if that was the case, the serial killer plot could still happen, but be done better. and it would allow for a scenario I talked about with @littlx-songbxrd to happen, where it's Alastair who's falsely accused of murder. It creates a great opportunity to explore some things, because we know Alastair is much more likely to be seriously suspected, considering all the prejudices and bad rep his family has and all that
...what do you say to well-written Jordelia? 👀 Cordelia hasn't been obsessively in love with James since childhood, she only had a crush then. And now that they meet again, she's fond of him but not in love, not straight away. They're both grown up, and different people, but as they spend more and more time together, they fall in love. What if Cordelia gets to flirt with some other boys first? What then. What if she ends up choosing James, instead of going for the only boy she's ever had feelings for and idealized since childhood. What if we even make it friends-to-lovers and have James be a little jealous at some point?! but not in a possessive awful way, just "oh damn oh no"
Now I won't know peace until this exists BUT THANK YOU

How do you think Taylor and Karlie actually feel about each other now? I feel like Karlie still likes baiting insane kaylors because it gives her much craved attention but is ambivalent towards Taylor, whereas Taylor probably genuinely dislikes Karlie for the scooter affiliation and seethes if she goes online and sees gaylors writing about their "queer joy" from 10 years ago that never existed.
This comes with 1) a lot of assumptions and baseless headcanons about both women 2) a gross overestimation of the mathematical or cultural relevance of Kaylor.
Karlie hasn’t “baited” Kaylors since she got pregnant. I’m also not convinced Karlie was ever trying to bait romantic!Kays. She did, imo, try and retain Swifties. Inexhaustive list of examples in which she worked to retain Swiftie attention: posted publicly for Tay’s birthday in 2017, went to and actively documented Rep Tour and posted the Rep Room selfie in 2018, tried to imply Taylor is coming to her wedding(s) in 2018 and had Ash Graham cover for her in an interview by “not revealing the guest list” post fact like Tay DIDN’T go but they didn’t want to say, listening to Lover on main in 2019 and telling Vogue her and Taylor are still really good friends, and like posting her folklore-esque content in 2020 (and going on a like spree of actual cardigans).
Now, why did Karlie do this? Because she wanted to… retain Swifties, many of whom had originally liked her (in the way they like most of Tay’s friends but especially the pretty Barbie doll ones). Does literally ANY of the above imply IN ANY WAY that they’re in a romantic closeted relationship? Absolutely not. Going to a bachelorette party at someone’s concert and trying to say they went to your weddings and saying you’re good friends with someone is NOT in any way saying “we are sekrit wives”. It’s just wanting to avoid drama and retain some of the audience you got from that.
If someone saying “haha we’re still good friends don’t worry!!!” makes you think they’re dating or married that’s… insane.
Since Karlie got pregnant and Kays got crazier and came for her baby and since ITTG dropped she has abandoned the above.
But y’all there are approximately 10K Kays/Gaylors. KARLIE - not even Taylor - has 10.3 MILLION followers. Kays do not even make up 1% of her fanbase. Now maybe she has some bought followers. Shit let’s call Kays 10% of her fanbase. And so? Like as annoying and crazy as they are can she factor a segment that small into her actual marketing plans?
Next: Taylor doesn’t hate people for Scooter affiliations. She went to Ed’s big wedding alongside Scooter himself and it was all a okay. Her and Ariana have never had beef. There is literally nothing to indicate she gets mad at people for doing business with the man.
According to Perez and Spencer Pratt, Taylor is angry at Karlie because Karlie TOLD Scooter stuff about Taylor. That’s what pissed Taylor off - not Karlie working with him but Karlie running her mouth and telling TAY’s business to him. Before Tay found that out, they were just… people who’d grown apart.
Taylor had gone on Insta and liked Karlie’s wedding pic so she had 1) remembered 2) publicly wanted to show her support.
Like the beef between them that exists now started in 2019 when Tay got Masters info. Before that they’d simply drifted.
Finally (maybe): the “tea” all says Karlie hated Kaylor in real time - the shipping not the conspiracy - and Tay found it cute and funny. This makes sense because Tay was single and then in a new relationship with a gross hetty boy DJ who didn’t mind this stuff and Karlie was in a serious pre-existing relationship and trying to look like marriage material and her serious boyfriend was getting harassment so I don’t think she liked that. She liked SWIFTIES of whom there were far more. Taylor found all the friend shipping cute and hilarious until she realized like these were actual conspiracies and then she backed off.
However, if we want to talk about like attracting Gaylors like Taylor did so into Lover era. Yes, there aren’t a lot of them but she knows they exist because she was terminally online when they were born and encouraged them by regularly liking posts about like silly Kaylor jokes. Taylor then made a gay pride era with “gay pride makes me me” and put a bi pride flag on her head and then she wrote a bunch of love songs about women (male perspective or nah, if you’re worried about people thinking you’re gay you don’t sing a song addressed to a gal from that POV).
Taylor also has had Gaylors - not basement baby Kays tho - at all her in person fan events including the ATW premiere. She had like a big Swiftgron from TikTok (I think but maybe Twitter) at it. Swiftgron… also isn’t real but it CLEARLY does not bother her.
So look: neither are “baiting” anyone and idk that they ever did. Real world baiting is idk what TaTu did. It’s not saying your ex friend went to your wedding. They are on bad terms now. But it has nothing to do with Kaylor lol sorry.
Like y’all there just aren’t enough ACTUAL Kays - “they broke up” ones included - for this to be a relevant demographic to target.
TL; dr - no one thinks about Kays except for them and their obsessed ass antis.

Ultimatum: The Art of Lying In A Made Bed
(Or Why My Experience With Chapter 285 Is Contrary To Everyone Else's)
[Manga Spoilers Ahead. Also Opinions. Feel Free To Ignore.]
After Chapter 284, many fans were wondering how the story of BNHA would follow up on Katsuki's development. Now that Chapter 285 is officially out, fans are clamoring about Katsuki's latest acts of heroism, about how his arc is finally kicking it into high gear.
I'd be inclined to agree, but… you know how these things go.
[Heads up fans/stans, if you like Katsuki you might wanna bail. The word vomit that follows is pretty much incoherent and reflects my disaster of a thought process.]
I was looking forward to Chapter 285. I had my reservations on the execution of Chapter 284, but if the next chapter could follow it up and then some, I'd be pleasantly surprised. But then the leaks came out. And then the fan translation. And as of today, the official VIZ translation.
While everyone else is cheering for explosion boy, I'm just… done.
285 didn't get me to see how far Bakugo's journey has come. 285 didn't get me to finally root for him. And maybe I am making this decision prematurely, maybe I am missing something, but…
...the way things are going in the story I just- I just CAN'T root for him.
And I'm not saying the rest of you can't, if you're still reading. Katsuki is definitely a different person compared to Chapter 1, a better person, and he's definitely been heading on the up and up! If you can and want to support him, then by all means, go for it, don't let me stop you! It's just…
For me, chapter 284 was a wavering torch: a flicker of hope that sometimes dwindled, but was still there. Chapter 285 was the moment where I wanted to jump on the Katsuki Development Train, to finally gain some semblance of respect for him. But when I jumped, I landed on the tracks, and had to crawl back onto the platform.
I missed my chance to jump on that train. Whether it's because of previous circumstances or recent circumstances, I'll never know…
You probably wanna ask me at this point, "But Crimson, why DIDN'T Chapter 285 make you see the awe inspiring pinnacle of character development that is Katsuki Bakugo???"
To put it simply: it's a culmination thing.
For starters, there's a sort of… whiplash with Katsuki's development in the last few chapters. People like me will complain that Katsuki's development is too slow, in the case of the last 2-3 chapters, it feels like a switch was flipped, and now it's become too fast. Perhaps it's a me thing, but let me try to explain…
Shoto starts out as a standard background character. By the time he gets his spotlight in the Sports Festival, he comes off as reserved and antagonistic. After the whole "it's your power" moment, Shoto is finally able to accept the side he always hated. Then Katsuki fights Shoto, and we're shown he still needs time to grow; his left side comes with a lot of baggage he can't just brush off in the span of a single sparring match.
Fastforward to Hosu. Shoto's starting to take other people into better account. He's starting to learn to better control his fire. He's reconnected with his mother. His goal is no longer one-upping his old man; he has goals, people, that he wants to protect. He's coming into his own and wants others to do the same, like Tenya.
He joins the Katsuki Rescue Squad because, like Izuku, he had an opportunity to save Katsuki, didn't, and now he wants to make up for it. When we get to the Provisional License Exam, we're yet again slammed with the fact that his growth is still not done via Inasa, that there's still a bit of Endeavor he has to shake off, even if it was in the past. And he does progress towards that with the Remedial Course Arc. And while I have my opinions on the Endeavor Agency Arc, I'll admit that it was another development opportunity for Shoto and the Todoroki family. Shoto's growth comes with setbacks, but overall it's consistent.
Let's shift gears to Tenya, who's characterization I find fascinating. He starts out opposed to Izuku when they first meet at the Entrance Exam. He sees how Izuku is (for lack of a better phrase) "better qualified" at heroics thus far, reassesses his position, and apologizes whilst making amends. When Tenya resorts to LITERAL MURDER against Stain, the narrative does not let him go off without reprocussions. His arms are damaged, his supervisor's teaching license is revoked, and while he managed to avoid legal charges via police cover up, it still came close. Tenya listened to Stain's words, and opted to improve himself by that notion. He tries to set a better example, be a better class rep. It isn't a one and done.
Him lashing out during the Hideout Raid Arc is an offshoot of that. He doesn't deck Izuku just to be a dick; he's trying to knock some sense into him. They're so focused on Katsuki that they're forgetting about everyone else. Their friends, their teachers, their parents. If they f*** up like Tenya almost did at Hosu, they'll have hell to pay, and he doesn't want that. Of course, once they explain that combat/murder is not their M.O., Tenya tags along, if only to ensure the operation goes smoothly without this hitch. And again, Tenya keeps up. He looks after his classmates, looks after Izuku during the Shie Hassaikai arc. His growth is also consistent.
There are probably more characters I could elaborate on (Ochako, Momo, Eijiro, etc.), but I'll stop there. So, what's the deal with Katsuki's arc?
Well, it's… frustratingly back and forth.
It's one thing to have setbacks like Tenya and Shoto. It's something else entirely to have multiple setbacks and to keep trucking on with only abstract signs of development, but otherwise feeling like a very similar character compared to several chapters ago.
This is (in my opinion) Katsuki's problem. If we're going by what the manga stated, his arc technically started in Chapter 11: "Bakugo's Starting Line." But this is a rocky start. Izuku tells him about OFA right from the getgo out of guilt, but this neglects the fact that he's technically lying to everyone about it (including his new friends Ochako and Tenya), that OFA is a world-shattering secret, and that Katsuki is likely the worst person to tell this to considering that Izuku just handed Katsuki's ass to him and Katsuki was willing to use lethal force in their Trial. That aside, instead of say, sucking up his pride and opting to try and learn from everyone else, Katsuki doesn't really change strategies or approaches. He essentially does what he was planning to do since the start of UA; he's only crying because, SURPRISE, people are better than him. You'd think he'd expect that considering he called his middle school crappy…
After the USJ, once everyone had their "Lol Bakugo sux" moment on the bus ride, we get to the Sports Festival and everyone is clamoring to join Katsuki's team despite his apparent unapproachability. This feels less like something happened in the two weeks leading up to the Sports Festival, and more like history repeating itself from middle school. Moving on to the tournament, we don't even get to see how capable Katsuki is at serious combat. Two of his matches resort to Deus Ex Machina pulls, and the other two are in his corner by principle instead of difficult.
First off, Katsuki vs Ochako. I don't know why people praise this fight. For starters, it makes Katsuki HEAVILY OoC. Ochako is the only person he asks if she wants to back out before the match even starts. The ONLY person, which kinda undermines the whole "he didn't underestimate her" thing. Then he takes a reactionary stance the entire battle. Like, I thought we were still dealing with the "fist first" Katsuki. He does this to Eijiro, Fumikage, even Shoto, but Ochako? Stay still and then attack. Even if he did get his gravity removed, couldn't he just… propelly himself and let her have it. If he was proactive, he could have ended the fight quicker. Instead, he just plays sitting duck and headless chicken. If you're gonna have Katsuki win the fight, don't bulls*** it.
Which brings me to the final bit of that fight: the meteor shower. Having Katsuki blow that away after supposedly expending most of his energy earlier in the match just does NOT sit right. Ochako gets the upper hand, and then you just… negate that? You expect me to believe that Katsuki could generate an explosion at that magnitude, if nothing else? And what exactly does that do for him in the end? No one else tires him out for the remainder of the festival, which is pretty sketch.
(And yeah, I know I know "What part of her was frail?" but that's more of a retrospective thing than in the moment, coupled with the facf that it's never elaborated on again in any capacity, with Ochako or with someone else. It's a throwaway moment; a waste. Moving on…)
You really can't say much about the matchups with Eijiro and Fumikage. With Eijiro, it's an endurance match, and Katsuki apparently has infinite stamina and is on the attack. And he just… rushes him, which I'm pretty sure anyone else would do. Then with Fumikage, Dark Shadow is weak to light. Katsuki's explosions emit light on contact. Do the math.
And I am especially mad at Katsuki vs Shoto because one, he stays in place yet again at the start of the match, and two, he can apparently ignore his Quirk' weakness to low temperatures. In a gym uniform. Against a glacier the size of a building. Even with his power output, you don't see his explosions dampening in magnitude. It's obviously in his favor, which defeats any tension the fight could have had. It sucks, and in the long run, as a wise man once said, "Todoroki should have folded [his] ass."
Then we get to the Final Exams (ABOUT DAMN TIME) and… Katsuki hits Izuku for trying to cooperate, nearly gets knocked out once, and gets knocked out the second time around. He does not want to work with Izuku despite it being All Might, is petty enough to consider losing, and actively grumbles against working with Izuku. And all of his supposed self-preservation goes flying out the window when he's willing to try and beat All Might, leaving Izuku having to come and carry this boy out of the gate, which should not have let him pass.
Then there's the Training Camp attack. The second Izuku is mentioned, Katsuki decides to go AWOL, and while being kidnapped sucks, I am less sympathetic when you're boneheaded enough to help them capture you because you wanted to fight villains instead of getting to safety like the professionals recommended, all because of your one-sided hatefest with one of your classmates. Congrats, you played yourself.
Then we get to the Provisonal License Exam, which feels like a step in the right direction… until you realize this will boil over into Deku vs Kacchan 2, which will get both of them in trouble, which will give Katsuki insight into OFA while Izuku gets shunned by his classmates, and which will prevent Katsuki from the one ass beating that could have potentially taught him something. It's essentially the narrative covering his ass, and then he has the gall to be happy about other people potentially getting set back just because he was set back. Geez dude.
The Cultural Festival essentially undoes what the Remedial Course Arc accomplishes, having Katsuki look down on the rest of UA when he said NOT to look down on people earlier. And then his speech is still heavily antagonistic to the rest of the school, and to the idea of basic human decency and kindness in general. And if I'm being honest, that whole "he can play drums" feels like a big ass pull to keep him in the spotlight. At least the story brought back his ability to cook down the line.
The Joint Training Arc is just shoe horning in regards to Katsuki. It acts like his gearing up towards saving, but the circumstances are heavily, heavily in his favor, and not in a good way. I've already brought up how Katsuki won't get "saving" until the Endeavor Arc, and how here he's just doing it to show off, so I won't go into it here. Then apparently he gets to outwit a recommendation student 'cause why not? It makes him look more impressive than he actually is, even though he outright states he hasn't changed much if at all. Not to mention the narrative makes it sound like he was some sort of underdog, even though he only got kidnapped and didn't get his license. And I know those are big things, but not enough to warrant his victory feeling that triumphant. I'd probably buy it if he didn't win the Sports Festival or pass the Final Exam. Keep him in that slump for longer than you actually do, or it lessens the impact. And let's not forget, he might have been willing to help Izuku with Blackwhip via fisticuffs, but the second he realized he wasn't getting anything out of it, he noped out. And it's been what, almost 200 chapters since his "starting line?"
I don't have much to say during the Endeavor Arc (that was its own can of worms),  but as for the War Arc thus far… here's what I mean by "whiplash." The arc begins in Chapter 253. By Chapter 257, Katsuki will demonstrate how much he just does not give a f*** about Izuku's mastery over OFA so long as it looks like he'll come out on top. By Chapter 274, when Izuku's gotta split, it'll look like Katsuki has been thinking about some stuff, but by 275 he's gonna throw that out the window so he can attempt to one up Tomura and Izuku, and then he'll nearly get killed for it. And we won't know what exactly Katsuki is thinking until a flashback in Chapter 284 (which chronologically takes place after 257), where he has a conversation with All Might about his past with Izuku. Or at least the bullet points. If you're me, the start of the conversation feels less about Izuku and more so about his situation: his situation with OFA. And as much as I want to believe there was at least one good kernel in Katsuki that he was too stubborn to let out with Izuku, I feel like Katsuki only brings up him and his capabilities now because he got a Quirk. That's what put him on Katsuki's radar. That's what forced Katsuki to take notice of Izuku, what caused him to be unable to ignore his own weakness. Because of a Quirk. That's… borderline shallow, if not remarkably so.
And even when Katsuki is attempting to save Izuku in 285, his first thoughts are still on OFA. And even if we go by the line of thought that Katsuki is thinking "Even if OFA sucks, it's still Izuku's Quirk." And that's nice and all, but the flashback makes it seem like the Quirk is still All Might's Quirk as well. That all of Izuku's worth is hinged on the fact that he got a Quirk now and therefore can't be written off. Maybe he doesn't owe this to his accomplishments, but the narrative is terrible in its implications that Izuku wouldn't have gotten as much attention without it. At the end of the day, Katsuki is still associating Izuku's worth with his Quirk. And as much as I want to vaguely, vainly hope that this will change later on, I'm already at my limit
...and now that I've said my piece on almost the entire narrative thus far, let's shift gears to a few more tidbits in 285.
Again, the flashback. I think it's significant that they're shifting the focus briefly on middle school again. But you wanna know what sent me the wrong way? They didn't include the god forsaken suicide instigation. They can show Katsuki gloating. They can show Izuku up against a wall. They can even show a notebook and Izuku's face during the Sludge Villain rematch. But they can't show Izuku reacting with sorrow mixed with almost fury. That can't show Katsuki threatening him with a mere "What?" and the sparks on his palms. They can't show Izuku standing and crying, small and defeated.
"BUT HORI SAID HE WENT TO FAR WITH THAT SCENE!1!" Blah blah blah, doesn't change the fact that it still happened. Doesn't change the fact that it should be addressed, at any capacity. Doesn't change the fact that the story had the balls to recall middle school but couldn't bring itself to remember the one thing that could get its audience raising eyebrows.
But that's alright, it gave you the notebook; clearly it's done enough.
And maybe in another timeline, I could have let my jaw drop when Katsuki was hit and the chapter title was revealed. "Katsuki Bakugo: Rising" It would have been pretty damn powerful too.
...but with all the previous crap the narrative has pulled, it feels like more shoehorning. It feels like more Erasehead stepping in and shaming the audience. It feels like more All Might letting Katsuki in because he's not completely familiar with the finer details. It feels like more people. In narrative parroting that Katsuki changed when he does the bare minimum, as a hero or as a person. I can't treat this development legitimately, because so many other "legitimate" developments pulled a "psyche!" and headed out.
So, I'm done. I'm done with Katsuki, done with hoping his development will be done in a somewhat satisfying manner. Done with people telling me "it's actually good though!" like I'm blind and deaf or something, when I have enough brain cells to formulate my own opinions, and we both have enough brain cells to leave each other alone if we don't agree. Maybe when the series ends and we can all look at this in hindsight, and Katsuki has either found a way to redeem himself, or remain deplorable, I might talk about it then. But for now. I'm drawing the line. I might talk about what we've gotten up to this point, but everything past 285 I'm taking with a grain of salt. 'Cause I'm sick of hoping for something that obviously won't come through, and it's better for me and everyone involved if I just pack up and move on. BNHA isn't just Katsuki's story after all.
And if you made it to the end of all this… I hope you'll either respect my opinion, or respect my thought process. That's all I can ask.

Ozpin: Greetings, travelers. You may know me, or you may not. That doesn't matter at the moment. What does matter is this tale I will tell you. It is filled with magic, adventure, and many memorable moments. If I may begin?
Long ago, and far away, in labyrinths of coral caves~,
A mystic crystal was forged in glass, with magic or something like that~.
It's powers had been used for good, and all had lived in brotherhood~,
Until the necromancer attacked, upon her Grimm of bone and black~.
Her black-red eyes with evil gleamed, She stole the crystal and she screamed~,
Now bow down men and all between, Or face the wrath of my magic beams~!
The knights and nobles of the land, Did all they could to stay her hand~,
But not a single blow was struck, For alas, she had the strongest luck~!
Yang: Hey, Professor Ozpin? No offense, but this story is kind of lame.
Nora: Yeah! This necromancer just shows up, and everyone just loses?!
Ozpin: It's called building tension.
Yang: Yeah, but everyone's gonna get bored of the story at this point, and not bother listening any further!
Nora: I bet Ruby could tell a better story!
Ruby: Huh?
Ozpin: Very well. (Tosses the book to Ruby) The story is yours, Miss Rose. (Leaves)
Ruby: B-But I-!
Yang: So, what happened next?
Ruby: Uh, um-!
Nora: It might help if you just read the book.
Ruby: But wasn't that what-?
Yang: C'mon, Rubes! Show us what you've got!
Ruby: Uh, okay then...
She grabbed the princess from her throne, Then trapped her in the crystal stone~.
The king called in his wizards four, And begged them and deeply implored~,
Search the forests, Search the seas, Search in all time and realities~,
Two champions are what I need, To bring my daughter back to me~!
Yes, my king, it shall be done! The wizards said, and so begun~,
A wondrous spell, that soon would find, The greatest men in space and time~!
And that's where our story begins, Our two heroes soon come in~,
There is no quest they can leave be, But only one of them can really speak~.
Meanwhile..
Jaune: I'm really glad you said yes to this meeting. I was kind of nervous you'd say no.
Neo: (Tilts her head)
Jaune: Well, it's just, I think you may have a problem with killing. Or should I say not killing, because-
Neo: (Waves at him, Points)
Jaune: Huh? (Looks behind him) Is that... a mystic space portal behind me? (Portal sucks them in) OH SHI-!
They awoke within a foreign land, Inside a castle oh so grand~,
There atop a throne of gold, Arose the king, so green and old~.
I've called you from the great beyond, To save my daughter with hair so blonde~,
You've sailed across the skies and stars, The Brothers brought you here without harm~!
Jaune: Actually, your majesty, you just sucked us through about sixteen different dimensions, and I have to be honest...
My arms are broken, And I don't know why my chest is smokin'~!
I will heal you with my staff, Tri-Hard works so long as you don't laugh~!
Now go! Ride toward the Sun! No, not to me! They may be our heroes now, But I fear their destiny~.
And so, they turned and rode past the castle walls, In shining codpiece armor that did cradle his chivalrous balls~!
Then skies grew dark, and the road grew narrow, But our heroes would never be lead astray~!
Neo brought her magic arrows, And she can use them to light their righteous way~!
Jaune: (Shot) ARGH! Neo, have you ever used a bow before? (THUNK! THUNK! THUNK!) OW! OKAY, I'M SORRY FOR ASKING! (Rips out the arrows, Throws them back to her) Alright then, LET'S RIDE!
Ruby: Am I doing good?
Yang: Great, Rubes! But did you really need to mention the "cradling his balls" thing?
Ruby: (Blushing) It's what the book says!
Nora: Is it just me, or does this hero sound vaguely familiar?
Yang: I'm sure it's nothing. So, what happened next?
The roads were twisted, and the air was thick, It was clear her domain was as evil as dick!
They passed through the gloom of the Forest of Fear, And the Pits of Disgust, and the Dark Swamp of Tears~!
Then off in the distance so clear, the cold, gray peak of Mt. Nasty appeared~!
Past the Fields of Annoyance, and Dragon Barf Junction, And the treacherous Cliffs of Erectile Dysfunction~!
Now Neo has erectile dysfunction! Only Neo, though~!
Jaune: I know; it's weird. (Neo shrugs)
They arrived at the Evil Queen's halls, and dismounted their trusty steeds with resolve~!
They hugged them goodbye and promised they'd never quit, Then they ran straight away, for they gave not a shit~!
The moonlight shined over the door, And over the gems and the skulls on the floor~.
They felt no terror at their end of the caves, For unless the Bells of Doom tolled, They knew they'd be saved~!
They knew they'd be saved~!
THEY KNEW THEY'D BE SA-~!
Jaune: (Bells of Doom toll, Surrounded by countless Grimm) Ah, fuck...
Yang: Well, they're boned. Unless they fought their way out.
Ruby: It says here the Silent Knight fought her way out and escaped.
Nora: But not the other one?
Ruby: He fought, but tripped on the first swing and knocked himself out.
Nora: Is he dead?
Ruby: Let's see...
Colored gemstones lit up the walls, and formed a rainbow trail up to a giant waterfall~.
There, the necromancer grinned, the Princess stood frozen, yet still so hot beside her~.
Jaune, Yang, Nora, Ruby: Damn...
Then he heard a voice inside his mind, It was the Princess, she said, Jaune Arc, your heart is kind~.
Only light can stop dark~. I know what she spoke of, That to defeat the necromancer, I need to use love~!
Jaune: Stand back, Neo! I'm going to hug her!
She immediately shattered both his legs, and threw him across the room, He probably should have brought some weapons, but now the fool is doomed!
But Neo picked him up, because they're such good friends, Then she used his body like a club to beat their enemy to death~!
He should be in more pain than could ever be spoken, But luckily he felt nothing because his back is totes broken~!
Oh, the necromancer was dead, and the crystal broke in three, They looked up into the light and saw the Princess was now free~!
Jaune: Neo, she's so beautiful! Roll me to her!
Neo: (Rolls her eyes, Throws Jaune at the Princess)
Nora: Hooray! The day is saved!
Yang: That fight could have been better. Gotta say, though, that Silent Knight dude kicked serious ass! Is he single?
Ruby: Well, there's still a few pages left to find out.
They journeyed back to the King, His lands now green with the life of Spring~,
He leapt up and wept at the sight, Of his girl as she carried our hero through the night~!
Heal this man, wizards~! He cried in delight, And they did! Brothers damned, they kept their magicing tight~!
Sadly it was time to leave, so the King said, Fix Neo's ED, and hooray for Neo's Best Team~!
Yang: Great story, Rubes! Nothing left to do but to put it on a shelf and never read it again.
Nora: I wonder what happened to those two after this? Maybe I should write a sequel.
Yang: What if there's already a sequel?
Nora: A sequel as good as good as what I write? Puh-lease! What do you think Ruby? (Ruby is silent) Ruby?
Ruby: (Points to a picture of Jaune walking around, as if it were a live video feed) Look...
Jaune: Neo, look! The portal back home is opening! (Turns to face everyone, Unknowingly facing RYN)
Now fare thee well, It seems that our journey is at an end. We will be here if you should ever need our help again~. (They walked away, but stopped to turn before they take their last step)
Neo: (Kills a guy, Smirks as she maintains her rep)
We all have our battles to fight, and a crystal cage to break through in our lives~.
But when hope is gone, We will be there to help and fight the fuck on~!
Yang: Whoa...
Nora: (Sniffs, Wipes away a tear) That's my leader...
Ruby: (Closes the book)
The End...

Tumblr media
Weeks had gone by since her tryst with Florian, but Snow made no effort to discuss it. As far as she was concerned, it was a one time thing, just two people relieving stress and pent up emotions. She knew Flo was the non-committal type so his feelings couldn’t hurt all that much. And she herself was no stranger to casual sex. To Snow, forgetting it even happened was the best approach. Having a fling with her new enforcer wasn’t a smart business move and right now she needed to be very strategic with her next choices.
Klaus’s death was wrapped up in so much uncertainty and she struggled to make sense of it. Flo’s theory was that the Russians killed him for seeking a new supplier. Apparently, Klaus had scheduled some meetings with people he suspected of being in the game themselves. But that just didn’t make sense to her. The Russian syndicate had been a reliable supplier for quite some time. Consistent quality, good price. What could make Klaus do something so stupid as to go against them? She played out different scenarios in her head but none of them helped her connect the dots. What she wouldn’t give to sit with her old friend and pick his brain for a bit. He was her closest friend and she began to realize how much of a mystery he was to her.
She’d been spending a lot more time at the club in the recent weeks. Between Florian giving her an overview of the enterprise and her desire to keep an eye on the business numbers, she had very little need to be elsewhere. And thankfully things at the club were phenomenal. Klaus had done an excellent job at hiring skilled staff that could do their job and securing talented entertainment to keep the guest list filled up. She was pleased to see that they were booked for DJ's and musicians for the next 6 months. And their scout, Jonas, was searching to fill the calendar for the rest of the year. At least she didn’t have to worry about her legitimate business.
Today though, Florian was going to teach her how to look over the count. Every week, the “foot soldiers” came and dropped off their take from the product they sold. Florian and Klaus would then verify it and make sure they were consistent with what they had been given. The dealers were then told to wait for pickup details so they could get new product to sell. As Florian recounted all the steps, her mind swirled, overwhelmed with her situation.
“I’m a fucking drug dealer” she lamented, burying her face in her hands.
“Technically you’re a drug lord” Florian responded, causing her head to jerk back in surprise.
“What difference does it make? I’m still involved!”
“Yeah, but you’re anonymous. The people who buy our product won’t ever see your face. They don’t even know you exist. Du bist ein geist”
“Why is that strangely comforting?”
“Because it’s true. You’re protected. None of our people are ever going to rat on you. If you go down, this whole thing goes down and they lose the good money they make. Keeping you hidden, keeps their pockets happy”
“So why should I even be meeting with the Russians? Wouldn’t showing my face to them jeopardize all that?” A few days after their hookup, Florian received a call from Mikhail, the leader of the Russian enterprise they did business with. He told them that there was a new leader and they were all too happy to schedule a meeting. Snow wondered what their reaction would be once they came face to face with her.
“That’s different”. She stared at him expectantly, waiting for him to continue.
“So think of it this way. A dealer is a little fish. He gets picked up, the police only want to use him to find who the bigger fish is, the boss. And that’s you. Then they use you to find the even bigger fish, your suppliers”
“The Russians”
“Genau. So now it’s in both of your best interest to keep each other hidden. If he gets caught, he has nothing to really bargain with. He still cares about his rep so he won’t throw you under the bus which means you walk away untouched. But if you get caught,”
“Then I can leverage knowing who he is”
“And now you understand. You’re probably the most protected person in this scenario. So relax Schnee”
She rolled her eyes at his nickname for her. It was starting to grow on her but she’d never tell him that. And to her surprise, she felt comforted by his breakdown of things. She knew the risks of being involved and it was something that weighed on her mind as she became more hands on.
Late afternoon rolled in and it was time to prepare for her first meeting with the crew. Florian took her into Klaus office and gave her a quick walkthrough of what she needed. The money counter, Klaus’ iPad and the safe where the cash was placed. She took in the photos and assorted knick knacks he decorated the room with. A framed photo of the two of them on his desk made her feel a sharp pang of loss. In this room, his presence was heavily felt. So she made a mental note to call a decorator to renovate the space.
One by one, her crew members trickled into the large room. She recognized some faces from the club which worried her. If they did get caught, how easy would it be for police to connect them to the club or her? And even though Flo was sure they’d keep quiet, how much could she really trust them? Sensing her distress, he leaned over and whispered in her ear.
“Relax. These are all Klaus’ people. He trusted them”
She pushed past the tingling feeling that came over her as his warm breath tickled the sensitive spot beneath her ear. A smug grin came across his face.
“Focus mädchen” he playfully warned.
She steeled herself and prepared for the remaining crew members to come and introduce themselves. But it was an all too familiar face that sparked fear and then rage into her heart.
“Emmeline, what the fuck!?”
“Hey Lise”. Her sister nervously bit her lip, waiting for Snow to say more.
Her baby sister, Emmeline stood in front of her, a pink duffle bag gripped tightly in her hands. She felt absolute betrayal at the fact Klaus had approved of this without telling her.
“No. Absolutely not”
“Snow” Florian warned.
“You knew about this?!” Her head turned to him with eyes full of contempt. It was one thing that her best friend and associate kept silent on this, but Flo too? How was she supposed to trust him if he kept something this big from her?
“She’s our best dealer. She brings all the socialites to the club and Klaus thought it be good for business”
“She’s my baby sister!”
“She’s right here! Look Lise, don’t be mad. I begged Klaus to give me a shot. And besides, it’s not like I work on the streets. I just bring my rich friends to the club”
“So why are you here now?”
“Well, occasionally I supply parties. And I sometimes sell to the women at the day spas. You’d be surprised how popular coke is to those trophy wives”
Snow put her head in her hands and took deep breaths to calm herself. This whole situation was fucked up. It was bad enough that she was running the business, and now her sister was in on it too? Honestly, what the fuck was Klaus thinking?
Resigned to her fate, Snow sat up and wore a blank expression to conceal the swirl of emotions running through her.
“We’ll talk about this later” Her clipped tone let Florian and her sister know that this conversation was far from over.
When the rest of the crew showed up, they lined up against the wall across from Klaus desk. One by one, Florian called them up to turn in their take. He counted the bills by hand then with an automated machine before inputting the numbers into the iPad he had shown her. After inputting the info, he listened attentively as they gave a run through of the territory they covered. And apparently things were going well, with the exception of Alexanderplatz.
“It’s nothing, but the car keeps rolling through our territory” Luka, one of the faces she recognized earlier, had finished telling them about some suspicious activities on one of the streets he serviced.
“Cops?” Florian probed.
“Nein. They’re too obvious. Cops hide. These guys pull up across the street and make eye contact. They want us to know they’re there.”
“When did this start?” Snow inquired.
Luka paused in thought before realization came over him.
“Come to think of it, the night that Klaus was killed. Emil called to tell me some car had parked across the street. He thought it was the police so he closed up early. But then later on he said he thought the driver looked like that Dmitry guy that comes by the club sometimes”
Snow and Florian shared a knowing look. Dmitry was the younger brother of Mikhail and his business partner. The fact that he was purposely snooping on their crew was suspicious enough. Could the Russians really have been behind Klaus’ death?
“Thank you for telling us. Let us know the next time they pull up.”
“You got it Bossin”. An exciting jolt ran through her at hearing her new title. She liked it way more than Florian’s name for her.
The rest of the crew had uneventful reports to share when handing in their take. She was grateful that there weren’t more issues to worry about. But to her dismay, Emmeline’s count was the highest by far. Just her luck.
“You gotta let me know when more product comes in ASAP. I’ve got a line of clients wanting to stock up for a major party next week”
“We’ll have to discuss that before anything is decided” Snow watched as her sister narrowed her eyes in contempt. She knew this wasn’t going to be an easy battle.
“Lise, you’ve got to be shitting me. Look at my count, I’m bringing in serious profit!”
“I can see that. But I’m in charge now and I reserve the right to make changes to my crew and who I allow to represent the business. I’ll discuss it with Florian and let you know”
“You’re really going to be a bitch about this?”
Emmeline’s mouth had always been her problem. She was quick to pop off without thinking things through. Most of the time, Snow ignored her. But today, her attitude set her off and caused her once controlled anger to spike.
“Everybody out, NOW!” Snow’s voice took on a commanding tone that made everyone stand at attention. Even Florian found himself quickly rising from his seat and leaving the office. He flashed Emmeline a sympathetic glance before closing the door behind himself.
Turning to her sister, Snow tried her best to control her tone.
“Look I’m not sure what Klaus was thinking by letting you in on this. But this little arrangement stops now”
There were too many variables to consider and she was by no means comfortable with putting her sister at risk.
“God you’re impossible. You can’t ever let me have anything for myself”
“Girl cut the crap. I’m your biggest supporter and always have been. I have your back with anything you pursue but not this Em. This is way too dangerous”
“So you can be a drug lord, but I can't?” she countered.
“Grow the fuck up Emmeline. My involvement is drastically different from yours and you know it”
“Bullshit! You pretend to care about me when really you just don’t want to share the spotlight. You want all this for yourself. Can’t have your baby sister be doing just as good as you, huh?”
To her detriment, Emmeline would go out of her way to prove that she was just as good, if not better than her older sister. Yet Snow never indulged her. She’d always felt that their “rivalry” was one sided.
“Em, this is about your safety. What I’m doing is so unbelievably dangerous. I just lost my best friend. I can’t lose you too”
Her sister folded her arms across her chest and let out a frustrated sigh.
“I get it Lise, I do. But I’m an adult. I’m old enough to make my own choices and decide what’s risky. I have my own system and people I vet before doing business with them. I'm good at this Lise, let me show you. Besides, nobody here has your back like I do. I’ll be damned if I leave you to do this without people in your corner”
“I’ve got Flo. He’s been helping me the past few weeks”
“Oh I’m sure you do,” she suggested.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing. Just that Tamir told me he saw you leave the club with Flo a few weeks ago. He came back the next morning in his clothes from the night before. You wouldn’t know anything about that would you?” she teased.
“Nope. Not a thing. Let’s just get back to business” she urged as she made her way to the door. She was not having that conversation today.
“So does that mean I can stay on?” she bounced in excitement waiting for her sister’s response.
“For now. But I mean it Em. One hint of you being in danger and I pull you out”
Squealing with excitement, Emmeline rushed forward and pulled Snow in a tight hug
“Thank you Lise! I promise I’ll be safe, just watch, you’ll never have to worry about me”
“You’re my baby sister. I’m always going to worry” She held her tightly, wondering if she was making a mistake.
A knock on the door interrupted their moment as Florian stuck his head in the door frame.
“Y’all good?”
“Yes Florian, we’re good”
“Great, can we wrap up things then? We still have to set up the club for tonight”
The club was hosting a memorial event in Klaus’ honor. There were planned speeches from friends and business associates before a night of dancing and letting loose. It seemed fitting for a man who was determined to have a good time where he went.
After inputting final numbers into the iPad and securing the cash, Florian stood up behind the desk.
“I know the past few weeks have been tough with Klaus being gone. We all miss him and want to find who’s responsible for his death. I want to thank you all for keeping it together and running things smoothly. Just keep up the good work and keep an eye out for anything funny going on. We’re a family and we have each other's backs, okay?”
He turned to Snow expectantly.
“Bossin, want to add anything?”
It caught her by surprise. She hadn’t thought of preparing anything to say. She really was just there to watch and learn. But if she was going to step up and run things, now was the time to make her presence known. She stood up and pushed past the nerves that overcame her and spoke.
“Some of you may know me as the owner of the club, but I’ve always been the head of the enterprise. I simply trusted Klaus to be the mastermind that kept things going and I can see now I was right. You’re all doing very well for yourselves, the numbers don’t lie. The system he created is incredible”
The group before her hummed in agreeance.
“With Klaus gone, I’ll be taking a more active role. Florian is getting me accustomed to things but I know I’ll be very well versed in how things work. So make no mistake, I am the one calling the shots. You all answer to me. You give me respect and loyalty, I reward you. And if you cross me? Let’s just say you don’t want to find out what will happen. So let’s keep things on a positive note and keep working as a team, We’re in this together and if one of us fucks up, it puts us all at risk. Alles klar?”
Assorted affirmations echoed through the room and that familiar jolt ran through her again. Being in charge did things to her and she was half tempted to kick everyone out and fuck Flo on the desk. But she forced the idea from her mind.
That’s what I get for fucking my enforcer she thought to herself.
Florian dismissed the team after telling them to keep an eye out for the pick up details. Emmeline shot her sister a knowing look as she sauntered out the room and closed the door behind her.
The vibe in the room changed as soon as the door closed. She could feel the tension hanging heavily in the air. She watched as Flo walked over to the safe, securing the iPad with the cash counted earlier. The sight of his back muscles flexing in the white Henley tee he wore brought flashbacks of her nails digging into the taut flesh just weeks ago.
Flo turned to face her, taking in her flushed appearance and ragged breathing. A look of realization came across his face as he walked over to her.
“Don’t tell me you get off on being in charge, huh?”
He sauntered over to her, lightly tracing his lower lip with his tongue. She imagined him running it over the sensitive flesh between her thighs.
“That’s funny, I could’ve sworn you liked it when someone else took the reigns”
He kept pursuing her until she found herself pushed up against the large oak desk. Florian reached forward and gently lifted her on the desk before slowly hitching up the maxi skirt she wore. A whimper broke through her throat at the feel of his calloused hands on her thighs.
“So tell me Schnee? Who’s in charge now? Ich oder du?”
He pulled her in, hungrily claiming her mouth with an intense need for more. His hands slipped further up her skirt relishing in the feel of her warm, smooth skin. He traced the rough pads of his fingertips on her inner thighs, causing her to spread her legs wider. He took advantage of the extra room and pushed closer against her. His noticeable erection brushed against her clit through the thin lace of her panties and she moaned into his kiss, causing him to grow harder.
Snow was desperate to feel him, to have him completely consume her. Her body moved of its own accord, her hips thrusted upwards to feel him once more. Internally she was waging a mental war. Her logical mind fought to snap her out of this spell and to push him away before things escalated, but she was too far gone. His hands worked their way to the loop of her lace panties causing all doubts and reservations to scatter.
“Flo please” she mewled as his lips latched onto the sensitive flesh on her shoulder. Right now, there was only one goal on her mind; to be pinned underneath him while he had his way with her.
But the sudden knock at the door halted their plans and snapped them out of the trance. Hearts beat wildly as they gazed at one another, stunned by what almost transpired. A second knock sprung them into action and they quickly made themselves presentable. Snow smoothed out her skirt and fixed her hair while Florian made sure to to hide the impressive bulge in his pants. With one glance back at Snow, he opened the door to Emmeline standing there with a knowing grin on her face.
“Excuse me” he mumbled before taking off to the bar to prepare for the evening's events.
Emmeline stared at his retreating form with that same smirk before turning back to her sister.
“What did you need Em? Snow carefully took a seat behind desk to conceal the slight tremor in her knees. But Emmeline didn’t miss the shaky tone of her voice.
“Girl stop playing with me and tell the truth! Y’all fucking?”
Snow couldn’t help the giggles that spilled out. Her sister was not going to let this go until she knew the truth.
“Fine” she huffed, wiping the tears from her eyes.  “I’ll tell you everything but we’re going to need a lot of wine”

Bad Reps
JD x reader
Word Count: 900
Warnings: talks of shooting people, violent JD as always, cuss words, insinuations to smut
Author’s Note: This turned out better than I had hoped and it makes me SO HAPPY will i just turn into a slashers cult classic horror blog perhaps, stan JD
Summary: You meet JD and it’s already seemed like it’s meant to be
Genre: sexy murderer fluff
I don’t own these characters. They belong to author/director
(not my gif)
Tumblr media
JD saw you and he knew you weren’t fake. You were the kind of genuine that he seeked out. The kind of girl that he could spend his life beside if he could just get you to enjoy the same kind of violence that he did. You saw him the first time outside of the school when he showed up. He was surveying his future classmates and when you caught his eye he couldn’t help but smile.
He sucked on his slurpee and leaned against one of the light poles. You saw him and you were the only person there to give him a second glance. You stood up straight. The people around you, presumably your friends, spoke as though you weren’t completely zoned out.
You gave JD a smile. He nodded his head at you. You nodded your head back. Then you looked away, back at your friends.
In that moment, the second you saw his eyes he knew you were his and somehow you knew he was yours. Something about that look seemed familiar and risky and dangerous. You liked him. He liked you.
Later that day he saw you at lunch, beside your friends. He walked up to you, hands shoved in his black jacket. You looked up at him as he approached.
“Something wrong?” one of your friends snapped. JD ignored them.
“You’re Y/N?”
“And you’re JD.”
The girls around you looked between you and him. They could cut the tension with one of the school lunch pizzas.
“Hello? Y/N?” one of the other girls called.
“Do you want to skip this period?” JD asked.
“I thought you were never going to ask.”
You and JD started dating right after that. There was no saying what he was going to do and the act of that excited you. You had never dated a bad boy before but JD told you that you were meant for it. You thought that was funny but you ignored it mostly.
You and him sat in your car. Your sunglasses were on, poofed up hair and all. You watched the kids of the high school move along to their first period classes. JD sat beside you, smoking a cigarette.
“Do you want to kill someone?” he asked. You raised your eyebrow, shrugging.
“Depends. Do you have a plan of attack and a viable person? “
“You know those couples who throw a dart at a map to see where they’re vacationing? We can do that with bullets and our classmates.” You shook your head.
“What if we shot someone decent?”
“Darling, have you ever met a decent person in this school?”
You took a moment to think about that.
“I guess you’re right.”
You looked over at him, bringing up your sunglasses to your head. You reached over him to his slushie that he had gotten earlier that day and took a drink. He played with your hair as you did that.
There was a knock on the window as he watched you and he delayed even looking over at you. Your eyes met the ones of one of the dicks of the school. A football player that had been trying to get in your pants since middle school when he learned that his dick could do things.
JD was so amused that he came up to the window with him in the car that he rolled down his window to the guy.
“Whatcha want?” you asked, lips still wrapped around the slushie in your hands. He shrugged, hands gripping the car window. JD was amazed that he had the balls to come up to you like that when everyone knew that you and JD were the couple to avoid.
“Listen, your friends sent me over here to tell you something everyone wants to; leave this loser and come with us.” Yours and JD’s eyes gazed over at the group of your friends who stood in a tight knit group. They pretended they weren’t watching when they obviously were.
“I think I’ll pass,” you told him, putting your sunglasses back on in the glare of the sun.
“Lots of balls you got comin over here,” JD said, a confused look on his face. The jock barely looked at him.
“You don’t want to be seen with this guy anymore. You’re getting a bad rep.”
You shrugged, leaning over your boyfriend to get closer to him.
“I’m sorry babe, you should probably leave, I had plans to suck my boyfriend off and you’re really ruining the vibe here.” You rolled up the window, nearly catching his fingers in it. You gave him a fake smile and he shook his head, walking back to your friends.
“That shooting thing looks more appealing now doesn’t it?”
“Sure does.”
“Were you serious about that-”
“Shut up.”

Humans are Space Orcs, “One Flag and a Thousand Arms.”
Back with the major conclusion to the LFIL arc after months of not getting to it. Didn’t know I was going to write this today, but here we are. I hope you all like it, and sorry it is kind of long, but my typing was at light speed today (nice warm hands) :)
Anyway have a good day everyone!
“Please everyone, calm yourselves. The G A is addressing the issue as we speak.”
The crowd roiled and churned like the bubbles in a pot of boiling water. Flags waved and voices rose high into the air.
The chanting increased in fervor.
“Please!” The rundi struggled to raise his voice high enough to be heard over the crowd, who only grew with strength and intensity.
Commander Vir keyed his mic, “Delta units to the GA side of the crowd, some of these protesters are looking extremely agitated. Let's make sure they don’t do anything we’re all going to regret.
HE stood with his back to the GA chambers, its wide arching courtyard devoid of life except for those unfortunate  Rundi ordered to carry messages from one side of the compound to the other, otherwise they tried to keep their distance from the front facade of the building and the churning mass of protesters.
White flags waved and fluttered.
Commander Vir held the energy shield with one arm pressing it back firmly against the crowd, so they could not pass the dedicated marking point.
“Commander, the crowd here is getting violent.”  he grimaced and reached a hand down to open the line, “stun them and let them calm down, do NOT catch anyone else in the crossfire. We do not want this escalating.”
“Yes sir.”
Something pushed against his shield and he grunted pushing back. The white bandanna on his arm was pressed against the clear blue force field and helped to at least confuse the crowd before them. And luckily, they would be kept too confused to get violent.
The aliens among the human protesters helped as well. If this was on earth, things would have broken out into a riot by now, but the Drev the Tesraki and the Finnari tended to be more level headed when it came to these kinds of things, and they managed to rein in their humans from doing something stupid.
He closed his eyes tight for a second praying that the GA would rethink their position.
It hurt him to watch these people struggle like this. It just felt so strange that anyone should be here in the first place.
Beside him, Sunny had taken control of two young humans who were getting a bit more than rowdy, “Lets keep this a protest, and not a riot.” She growled giving them a look that would have made anyone quell in their boots. It sort of made him half smile, Sunny was such a badass, he wanted to be more like her when he grew up.
His thoughts were cut off  as the crowd churned a bit pressing into his shield.
Hey keyed his mic again prepared to go over the loudspeaker and tell them that if they didn’t calm down he was going to turn this protest into a mass nap time. He had the power to do that if things got out of hand, though he honestly didn’t want to.
The GA needed to see this.
He was so preoccupied with the crowd that he barely noticed as the Rundi ran up from the inside of the compound flying forward on its long spindly legs.
It stopped by the first Rundi to say something, and the conversation that passed between them didn’t look particularly encouraging.
HIs heart sank into his stomach.
He felt…. Surprisingly disappointed, very sad for all those people who were going to get their day ruined.
The rundi waffled around at the front of the crowd for a bit before turning and looking over to where he stood.
Oh great.
The rundi walked over, and he backed off from the crowd allowing Sunny to take a step in his place with her shield at the ready. The people looked as if they were about to start something, but seeing her expression, they decided not to.
He dropped his shield and lowered his head to hear the rundi over the roaring of the crowd.
“The GA is not budging.” The rundi whispered, “They are asking the protesters to leave.”
Adam growled in frustration.
Behind him someone in the crowd pointed at him, “They’re  saying no aren’t they!” Others took up the call, and soon enough the rest of the crowd had been alerted. Adam was forced to run back to support sunny as everything suddenly grew more intense.
Fights were breaking out on the left and the right.
People were hitting the ground as the guards were forced to stun them.
That only agitated the rest of the crowd who also began to buck and fight.
Adam keyed the mic for real this time filling the intervening space with his booming voice, “ALL OF YOU KNOCK IT OFF RIGHT NOW OR I WILL STUN YOU ALL.”
The aggression in the crowd died down, though the anger remained sizzling at the surface.
Overhead clouds passed over the sun, before him the crowd roared like a wave, and behind  him the GA council chambers were as silent as a ghost town.
“LISTEN, QUIET DOWN ALL OF YOU.” it sort of felt as if he was floating. The world around him hardly seemed real though that was not the best way to explain it.
The crowd died down a bit, “You may not understand this! And I have said it before, but these are not humans. Protests don’t work on them. When they see a group of angry humans they get scared and when they get scared, they double down even further. I know it does not make any sense to you NOT to protest for what you believe in, but if you are going to do this, you MUST remain civil. Even now the GA is frightened by you. They don’t believe you are rational, and they are not going to listen to you if this keeps up.”
The crowd had quieted down to a milling sort of confusion.
“Then what should we do!” the shouting came from somewhere and in anger, though he couldn’t pinpoint the source.
IN frustration he nudged Sunny, and she allowed him to climb on her back as he had before.
The crowd could see him now, and he could see them for the most part.
He waved them down trying to cut off the others who had taken up the chant.
“I understand what you are trying to do, and I support your efforts, but you are only hurting ourselves. The GA can only be won by rational discussion.”
“The GA won't see any of our representatives.” One of the crowd’s people snarled.
The call was echoed
Adam stared at them in shock, “Are you serious.”
There was a muttering throughout the crowd.
“For fuck’s sake.” he muttered under his breath
“The Rudi think none of us are high ranking enough to be allowed into the council chambers, and none of the representatives will take up our cause. The human ambassador thinks we are disgusting, so she won’t do anything.”
The muttering through the crowd grew louder.
Adam looked around head turning to see all the angry faces, blushed with red, or streaked with tears.
These people were frustrated, and hurt, and he understood why.
This wasn’t right.
He closed his eyes again and took another deep breath.
What was he thinking?”
He stepped down from Sunny’s back and walked over to one of the protestors in the front row pointing to his large flag on a pole that was about eight feet tall.
“May I borrow your flag?”
The protester stared on at him in confusion, “What, why?”
“Because, I am going to give you the representative you need.”
***
Commander Vir and Sunny walked alone down the length of the GA outer courtyard.
A billowing white flag streamed lazily  over his head suspended there by way of the pole which rested heavily on his shoulder. The white of the fabric had been marred now by many colors as hundreds of rushed signatures had been scrawled on its face.
He was armed with the backing of a thousand protesters, a hundred signatures, and more than a few dozen stories.
Sunny turned her head to look at him, and he fancied that maybe he saw an expression of pride in her eyes, though she didn’t say much except, “Pretty brave.”
He didn’t feel very brave, and as they walked through the front doors of the GA atrium his hand was shaking against the cold metal of the flagpole.
He was stopped by a pair of rundi guards on his way into the chamber, but was let in after they recognized who he was.
He could hear voices up ahead, and the sounds of the protest going on outside had all but died away, “They have proven that they cannot be civil, and based on the humanizing effect, we can assume they will do similar things to any non human lifeform that they encounter.”
“I may not agree with their decision  counselor, but that sounds like your prejudice against humans is seeping through.”
There was an uproar in the council chamber.
He paused for a moment with Sunny just out of line of sight and took a deep breath.
She lay a hand on his shoulder.
“Here goes nothing.” he muttered before stepping his way out onto the GA floor.
At first no one noticed his presence as he made his slow way into the center of the circle, but his large, white flag soon changed that. The council chambers went silent.
The chairwoman stood, “Commander, what are you doing here. Shouldn’t you be taking care of the protesters.”
His lips drew into a thing line, “I am.”
He rammed the flagpole against the stone sending a loud cracking sound out and around the wide atrium silencing the council, “I have been made aware that you refuse to see their representatives based on a ranking issue, well I assume my rank is high enough.”
The Human rep leaned forward, “Commander, this is not your place.”
He shot her a look, ”Then whose place is it counselor.”
He turned his head in a wide arc at the watching crowd, “Counsel, you have known me, longer than you have known any human currently in this galaxy. You understand that I know your rules and your customs. You understand that I have only ever striven to protect and uphold the GA and the planet’s it encompass. I have thwarted wars, signed treaties, and broken my own body for your best interests.” There was silence about the room.
“Will you let me speak now, with the understanding that my loyalty has never wavered from you, and never will.”
The silence continued.
Aliens understood the power of human loyalty. Or at least they should.
The chairwoman took a seat, “Very well, commander.”
He lifted his head feeling his heart slow as he took a few deep breaths. There was a muscle in his face that had begun to twitch, like it always did if he was extremely angry or nervous , but he held it down, “I understand you are frightened, and I understand that you are confused, but I want you to know first of all that those people outside are good average people. They don’t mean you any harm. They are hurting, and they are afraid for themselves, and they are trying to get your attention. Historically, humanity has used protests to right the injustices of government to combat prejudices brought on by one’s sex or the color of their skin. You must understand that they see this as an impingement on their happiness and a decision made out of line.”
There was a murmur around the room .
“So I ask you now, that I may, perhaps, answer your questions and ease your worries. Why are you so against them?”
“It’s unnatural.”
It was the Bran representative that had spoken, and he did it quite emphatically.
“Why?” The commander asked
“Because they aren't even the same species.”
“So?”
The bran seemed caught off guard, “They…. It's not natural. They can’t reproduce, so it isn’t…. A thing that should be done.”
The commander shrugged, “So if one can’t reproduce then they aren't natural? I see a couple issues in that logic relating to prejudices against people with infertility.”
There was a murmur around the room.
“So they can’t reproduce, so what. You know who we can reproduce with though….. Adaptids.”
There was a sort of hushed exclamation form around the room.
The commander shrugged, “They can’t have kids…. Hardly a good enough argument to bring to the floor of a government discussion.”
“What he is trying to say is that this practice equates itself to bestiality.” It was the human representative this time, and she stared at him with her eyes narrowed in anger. He kept his cool though he very much did not like her.
“That is absolutely disgusting and wildly insulting of you because that implies that one or both parties are no better than animals, beasts as you will.” The room was silent, “So which one is it, are humans animals, counselor, are the Finnari animals.” He turned to the Drev counselor, “Are the Drev just dumb animals that have no understanding, and no decision making abilities.”
The Drev representative stood angrily cracking his spear against the stone, “We are most certainly not.”
The commander held up his hands, “Then what is so bestial about it? Bestiality is absolutely disgusting because you are taking advantages of a creature that can neither understand or protect itself form what you are doing. It cannot say yes, and it cannot say no. It has no greater understanding than that of a child, and so cannot make its own decisions.”
He looked towards the Finnari representative, “Tell me counselor, is your species a species of children, with no greater concept of their own decision making.”
“Of course not. Why would you even imply such a thing.”
“I imply nothing, counselor. This is what YOU imply with your decision. So far we have established that all parties are intelligent consenting creatures, and none of you have managed to give me an actually good reason for banning the practice.”
The floor was growing more agitated.
“They will be a poor example for the rest of the galaxy. If we make it legal others will surely follow.”
Adam turned his eyes on the speaker, an Iotin, “You’re worried that they are going to turn the rest of the galaxy extrial?” He laughed, “That is a poor argument which is not only selfish, but foolish. People should be allowed to make their own decisions. And assuming you are right, what then? Oh no…. There are a few more extrials….. And it does…. What exactly?” He turned in a wide circle, “If you are worried about population growth  or in this case population falloff due to this issue then you should be reminded that extrials comprise a percentage of the human population so small that I could fit the greater majority of them on my ship comfortably. This occurrence is not common, and even if the numbers were to rise, it would not be of enough significance to cause issues .”
His heart was hammering hard inside his chest. He felt like he was doing alright, but that might mean nothing.
“In any event, these relationships do not affect the vast majority of the galaxy. Humans cannot be with the bran or the Rundi due to the water we shed from our skin. The grimm and the Iotins are out for similar reasons. Vrul and Gibb are incapable of having feelings for humans in that way, and both the Tvek and the Celzex  are too different from humans for either party to be interested.”
He walked around in a circle allowing the flag to trail behind him, “Furthermore, the humanization phenomenon happens with or without romantic intent, and as it is, its mention is more a mark of prejudice on humans than it is an argument against the two groups being together.”
He left the floor open for a little while as the council muttered with each other.
Finally the Drev representative stood, “My species culture and our way of life has been upturned by the GA. I fear relationships with humans will result in the loss of our culture. We have already strayed far from what we originally were. We are hardly recognizable as Drev anymore.”
The commander let his voice soften, “I understand that the Drev have lost a lot in joining this….”
Sunny held up a hand, and in surprise he was cut off.
She took the floor, “Your Glory.” She said bowing her head, “If you upheld those ideals, you would not be sitting on this council.” The Drev pulled back in surprise at her words, “Yes, we lost a lot in joining the GA, and after the war, but I would argue that some of that was for good. Before the GA people like me, with perceived imperfection were cast into the fire and perceived as no better than animals. This practice still takes place on our planet, where these traditions are still alive and well.”
Her words made the room shift nervously, “However, culture changes and adapts, and it must to survive. We changed in order to live among the GA. We found other alternatives to fighting that still maintain our honor and our prowess in war, and this includes the sports that the humans have brought to us. Furthermore, the vast majority of the Drev I see  who are with humans are those of us who would not be accepted by our own kind, perceived as ugly or malformed. If this is the case then your traditions remain sound, and those like me are removed from the mating population.”
The counselor almost looked ashamed at her words turning his head away so as not to look her in the eyes.
“As far as a change of culture goes it was bound to happen, and it seems you are more worried about change than you actually are about human drev relationships.”
She went quiet, and Adam nodded to her taking the floor again.
A finnair counselor stood, “I am simply worried about our birth rate. The Finnari were farmed by the Gnarlak for many years, and we are only now replenishing our population.”
“I don't think you need to worry. The amount of actual relationships is so small that it will not affect the Finnair population in any significant manner.” The representative sat back down with no real argument to combat him.
The chairwoman stood, “Your arguments have been heard commander, though, what the others do not mention is the issue of disease. We have seen a great increase of illness transmissible from humans to non humans and-”
“I hate to cut you off chairwoman, but that has a simple explanation, the rise in human tourism.”
She paused, “Explain.”
“You all know very well that humans are not allowed to leave their planet unless they are tested for all communicable non-treatable diseases. This means that those of us that you see here cannot physically pass our diseases off onto other people except for the germs that are found naturally on our skin. In this case these issues did not stem from relationships at all but poor vaccination, the poor regulation of tourism, and allowing aliens to travel onto earth where infected humans are located and not testing them as they leave.”
He looked on at them pleadingly, “You see. You don’t even have problems with them, but you are using them as a real scapegoat for the actual issues. And I am here to tell you that, in fact you are causing more problems by banning this.  The more you push, the harder they will push back, and eventually someone is going to get hurt, because they are not allowed to be together legally they do it illegally, and because they do it illegally, they end up in dangerous places exposed to greater rates of crime. They get hurt, and they get involved in things they would otherwise not have gotten involved in if you had not banned it. Just look at Noctoplis. It has the highest rate of extrials living there and the lowest policing force and the most corrupted system. There are no legitimate jobs there, so we see an influx of crime by desperate people who won’t be accepted anywhere else. Not to mention that it increased the depression rates, which increases suicide rates. Your laws have ostracized them, forced them to become criminals, and turned many of them to think that killing themselves is better than living in a world where they are seen as disgusting when they don’t actually do any real harm.”
He had to take a deep breath, “Earth has seen all of this before, and one way or another, eventually someone will see what I am trying to say.” He rested the flag on the floor beside him feet planted at shoulder width.
“I hope that this rational conversation will allow a more open mind on the council. I encourage you to talk to their representatives. They are more rational and educated than I am, and they can give you hard facts and statistics. But please, they don’t want to cause trouble, if you allow them to do as they will, you might find these problems going away for you.”
The human representative clearly did not seem convinced, but he didn’t expect to convince her, he expected to convince the others who were more afraid than they were prejudiced.
“It seems as if we have some other potential policies to discuss, Commander.” The chairwoman said tapping her fingers on the table before her.
“I have a suggestion, ma’am.”
“And that is?”
“A temporary revocation on the ban, that way you can SEE what the universe will be like without it, and you can judge for yourself whether The ban does any good. You don’t have to overturn the law just yet, but temporarily suspend it, that way you can re institute at any time. THan you will have concrete proof. You can do testing, and poles and whatever else, but you would know for sure.”
His suggestion turned into a discussion, that dragged on for many minutes before the chairwoman raised her hand, “It has been decided, all in favor of this temporary proposal please indicate.”
The voting lights flashed above them.
Commander Vir waited.
*** He walked from the venue hours after he had entered exhausted.
The flag felt heavy in his hands and his boots thudded with exhaustion on the white marble below him.
Outside, the protest field was surprisingly silent, though he could still see their flags.
As he walked closer he could see that the vast majority of the crowd was sitting down. Thei voices reached him from a distance at first until he realized they were singing with each other.
Waiting for his verdict.
He was still a ways out when they spotted him.
A lone man and Drev walking form the building, the man wearing riot gear, a full helmet, a shield, and carrying their flag resting against his right shoulder.
The group of them began to stand rising to their feet and yelling.
Pointing in his direction.
They quieted as he got closer.
“What did they say! What did they say!”
He stayed quiet holding a hand in the air to silence them. He passed the flag to the original protester who looked on at him with such an expression of pleading that he felt his eyes tingle a bit with rising emotion.
He had to look away boosting himself onto sunny’s back keying his mic.
The crowd was silent.
“I spoke to the GA.”
They waited on tenterhooks , “And after a long debate, and a slim majority the GA have decided….”
Flags whipped in the wind, “To temporarily revoke the ban on inter-species relationships until a-”
He didn’t get to finish his sentence drown out by a powerful wave of noise and joy so overwhelming that he was nearly knocked backwards off his feet.
The crowd surged forward, and Sunny staggered as the group surrounded them pressing inward and upwards.
Adam found himself on the ground on his feet packed in by bodies enclosed by hundreds of pairs of arms slapped on the shoulder and the arm, as every person tried their best to get one hand on him.
The flag from earlier was ripped off its stand and pressed into his hands.
He was deafened by cheering and an outpouring of gratitude so profound he had simply never experienced such emotion.
He looked up at Sunny pressed in with him by the enthusiastic crowd.
And she nodded her head in approval.
He grinned.
He had to admit.
This felt pretty good.
Though, weather it was all over was a question for another time.

Scientific Method: a process that uses evidence and testing to investigate the unknown, usually following a set of steps in order to arrive at a conclusion.
(Way too tedious. And boring. And so unlike Dazai.)
— An SKK Gakuen AU.
Step One: Make observations.
Most treat it like a "Step Zero", though, to their teacher's dismay. An era of results and instant gratification guarantees zero patience for things that take time.
Chuuya's guilty as charged, of course.
In any case, Dazai is being annoying, as usual.
"Stop blowing raspberries into my ear," he hisses, ducking under his textbook. "It's disgusting as hell."
"Did not," Dazai singsongs in English to the tune of his annoying ringtone. How he manages to even carry a tune despite the bubblegum idol pop blasting from his huge headphones is a mystery, indeed.
Chuuya rolls his eyes at that. "Did, too." He lightly kicks Dazai's leg to get his attention. "Seriously, listen to me. This is important."
Dazai seems to have read his lips, pausing his iPod and taking his headphones off with an annoyed sigh. "What, chibi?"
Ugh, that's definitely intentional.
Chuuya lets that insult slide for now. "I need the budget for the props ASAP," he huffs, arms crossed. "The school festival is already next week, you know."
Five days, to be precise, but Dazai still acts like they still have five weeks. "Ask Higuchi to do it," he drawls, lazily waving Chuuya away. "We still have 120 hours, don't we?"
Dazai turns to him, raising an eye expectantly. Damn him and his lack of sense of urgency sometimes.
That said, though, he always manages to get shit done in time. Every single time, without fail. And Chuuya, in turn, is always baffled at how he does it, every single time.
Today he finds himself asking the same thing all over again. Ugh.
Dazai's still waiting for an answer.
Chuuya's way too tired for this. "120 and counting down," he answers in kind to prove his point. "I need to submit it by today, in case you forgot."
"Higuchi will do it," Dazai simply repeats, wearing his headphones again. "Come back here when you're done. I'll wait for you."
Chuuya opens his mouth, then closes it again. Inhale, exhale. Better.
"Fine," he relents for now, arranging his things. "You'd better still be awake, or I'll dropkick your bony ass to tomorrow. Got it?"
He only gets the same lazy wave in response as he leaves.
When Chuuya comes back to the classroom an hour later, Dazai is fast asleep at his desk, headphones awkwardly displaced around his face.
To be fair, Dazai never said yes at all.
Chuuya could only scratch his head at that. This is one mystery he doesn't feel like solving at all.
.
Step Two: Ask a question.
Easier said than done, really.
They've been seatmates for more than a year and co-class reps for half that time, but that's about it.
Chuuya had cursed his luck to high heaven and back, and Dazai knew it. Reveled in it, even.
Then he got used to it.
He prides himself in being a good team player for the most part, if nothing else. That said, though, this is the first major event they are handling together, and the weight of the responsibility isn't lost on him.
"—Oiiii. Earth to Chuuya?"
Dazai is staring holes into him, pointed nose a mere fingerbreadth from his. He quickly backs away in surprise, sending the stack of paperwork flying to the ground.
Dazai seemed to have expected this somehow, and he sinks back into his seat while breaking into an amused chuckle.
Chuuya slowly puts up a hand to his face, surely an embarrassing flush of red by now. This is what he gets for getting caught off-guard.
The meeting continues where it left off, with Dazai rattling off a string of numbers while Higuchi notes down everything. Luckily, no one else said anything anymore.
Chuuya's still in his own headspace as he walks home alone, having managed to successfully ditch Dazai for once. He stops at a vending machine for a can of iced coffee, since he'll be pulling another all-nighter.
He gets the hazelnut-flavored one by mistake. A reflex, really.
Downing it in one go, Chuuya grimaces at the nutty aftertaste at the back of his throat. He still doesn't see what Dazai likes about it.
That being said.
Since when has he been this preoccupied with thoughts of Dazai?
"Ever since," a voice from the back of his head whispers.
Chuuya feels his face heat up again at the thought. Traitor.
Maybe he's still only flustered about earlier. He also hasn't slept enough the past days. Also stress from festival prep.
Or, he's only confused. Yup, that's definitely it.
That instantly makes him feel better.
.
Step Three: Formulate a hypothesis.
1. Dazai's annoying.    2. Dazai's very annoying.    3. Dazai's very, very annoying.
This one goes into the wastebasket, of course— as if he didn't already know that.
Chuuya's eyes trail to Dazai as he reads aloud a paragraph from the textbook.
It gets increasingly difficult to follow along with the lesson at hand when he's absolutely distracted by that rich, warm voice, carefully enunciating each word in the passage.
"Thank you, Dazai-kun," the teacher nods in satisfaction. "You may sit down."
As Dazai takes his seat, he turns his gaze ever so slightly in Chuuya's direction and their eyes briefly meet.
No sparks fly in all directions, but Chuuya feels a faint jolt of electricity run from his chest outward to every inch of his body.
Then Dazai smirks— the bastard.
1. He's definitely riling me up.
Dazai's smug face lasts only for a fraction of a second before it reverts back to one of disinterest.
Chuuya definitely knows better, though: from the dip of his eyebrows to the twitching of the corner of his lip.
2. He can be serious as hell.
Chuuya ends up mulling over his list through last period. He doesn't notice that class is over until Dazai sneaks up on him and quickly blows into his ear.
"Argh— goddamnit Dazai, every single time!"
Dazai sticks out his tongue in response. "That's for ditching me yesterday."
Chuuya groans in disbelief. Petty much?
He will never understand what he even sees in Dazai at all, at this rate.
Surprisingly, the very thought does the trick for him, and he takes note of it in his notebook at once.
"What's that?" Dazai attempts to peek over his shoulder, but Chuuya manages to evade him, snapping the notebook shut and glaring at him. "None of your business."
It only makes Dazai laugh. "Fine, then. I'll find out by next week."
"Is Nakahara here?" Kunikida from the next class calls from outside. Oh yeah, meeting.
"Gotta go," he excuses himself, half-relieved.
And that was that— for now.
Chuuya doesn't look at the third item on his new list until he's home. It's... strange and vague and unlikely as hell, but there it is anyway, in bold, red ink:
3. This might be a crush (???)
.
Step Three-point-five: Refine the hypothesis.
This is absurd, Chuuya thinks.
He's taken to scribbling his thoughts on a dog-eared spare notebook, since Googling "Do I have a crush on my classmate" was evidently useless.
The result ended up looking like a conspiracy map. Ugh.
Chuuya considers his three-and-a-half pages of chicken scratch before tearing them off.
It feels like he's dug himself into a hole at this point. Not that he minds staying in it, if it means he doesn't have to see Dazai tomorrow.
School festival's tomorrow, though.
Double ugh.
Chuuya honestly thought he was already too old for this shit. No, really.
Now his 15-year-old palpitating... red organ thing is laughing at him for it.
(He still chugs the rest of his coffee anyway. Mmm.)
Running won't solve anything, Nakahara.
Inhale, exhale.
Back to work:
H0 (null): He doesn't have a crush on Dazai. H1 (alternative): He has a crush on Dazai.
There, much more... straightforward.
Dazai would probably laugh at him for misusing a stat concept like this, but it serves his purpose just fine. It's not like he'll find out anyway.
It's one or the other.
(He'd have to decide sooner or later, anyway. Best to strike while the iron is hot.)
.
Step Four: Gather data.
(Because there's no time to experiment.)
It's only Day One, but micromanaging proves to be more challenging than expected. It comes with being second-in-command though, so Chuuya takes it all in stride.
Dazai, on the other hand, is on his phone, mindlessly scrolling and tapping and humming to himself between listening to the team's reports and ordering everyone else around.
Magnificent bastard's a born leader.
Chuuya peeks at his own phone; stopwatch app's still running
Dazai's been on his mind for... 6 hours now.
(No, really. Despite all the chaos. Yes, he's been keeping track.)
Others:
1. They've been using the same shampoo. The smell of activated charcoal has never been this alluring.    2. They think in the same way, apparently. Higuchi of all people had noticed. "You realized just now?"
And... And!...
3. They've been sharing breakfast for a year now. Bites out of the same bread, gulps from the same bottle of water, the works.
It makes Chuuya run for the nearest faucet to scrub off the blush on his face.
He's only left with cat-scratch nail marks and a soaking wet shirt for it, so clearly he shouldn't have bothered.
Welcome to adolescence.
Dazai is mildly amused when Chuuya returns to the classroom. "Had fun, chibi?"
No thanks to you, stupid beanpole.
Day Two isn't any different, but they're more used to the work by then, so they manage to close up much earlier.
Chuuya and Dazai are the last to leave the classroom, having finished the stocks inventory for Day 3 while everyone else went to enjoy the festival.
It's five PM.
"Ah, freedom!" Dazai yawns loudly as he says this, stretching his arms upward before swinging them around.
Chuuya ducks to the side to avoid getting hit. "Ugh, watch it!"
To his credit, Dazai drops his arms back at once. "Oh. Sorry."
He adds a smile to that. It's beautiful.
How hadn't he noticed that before?
The early sunset bathes the corridor in pale red-orange, as well as their white polo shirts. Dazai's messy hair seems to shine, too, if anything.
Chuuya's reaching up to touch it before he realizes. Greasy but soft.
Also: "You have freckles."
Dazai's confused at the sudden contact. He doesn't withdraw, though. "You, too." A smile. "Faint ones, as small as you are, across your nose."
Then he leans in and traces the cat-scratch marks on Chuuya's cheeks. "You've been distracted since last week. What happened?"
.
Step Five: Analyze the data.
Step Six: Draw a conclusion.
Step Seven: Share your findings.
...
Wait, wait, wait.
The moment feels like a jolt of electricity and the numbness after, and then some. Those who said people short-circuit were onto something, after all.
Chuuya doesn't register anything for the entire minute Dazai shakes him back to reality.
Then something wet goes into his ear.
He lets out an unholy screech right there and then, instinctively covering his ear in disgust. Dazai, too, has a finger in both of his, face contorted into something between a wince and a grin.
A beat.
Two more.
And Chuuya laughs his head off. He doesn't know anymore.
Dazai does, too, and they devolve into a pair of crazy hyenas— not that anyone would notice.
It's only a good five minutes later that they catch their breath, slumped on the wall, leaning into each other for support.
"You okay now?" Dazai asks him, still trying not to laugh.
Chuuya only huffs loudly in reply. Dazai takes it as a yes.
"Now that that's out of our system,"— and he goes back to business mode— "will you tell me what's going on?"
Hypothesis 2: Dazai can be serious at times.
(He has always been, though.
Chuuya only refused to see it.)
The next thing he knows, their faces are too close for comfort.
Chuuya takes a nervous gulp. It felt more like gasping for air, the way Dazai frowns at him for it.
Hypothesis 1: Dazai likes to rile him up.
(Maybe? Why, though?
Now he's not so sure anymore.)
Maybe it would be wiser to just forget it. This only happened because he overthought many things.
There's still time to back out.
Dazai won't let him, though, if the intense glare he has on now is any indication.
Inhale, exhale.
Moment of truth:
"Here's the deal" Chuuya starts, momentarily avoiding Dazai's gaze as he finds the right words to say. "We've worked together for so long now. And yes, I still think you're annoying as hell."
Dazai merely hums at that, as if he were expecting it. He doesn't say anything, though.
"A lot of times, though, you pull through. Get things done— magnificently at that. I really don't know how you do it, sometimes.
"The past week made me think about these things. Maybe even earlier than that. Who knows? Does it even matter?
"In any case, I realized something."
By now, the sunset is as deep red as his cheeks, and he feels himself burning up inside.
(Running now won't solve anything.
One or the other.)
Chuuya meets Dazai's eyes.
It's now or never.
"I like you," he says with finality. "And that's all you're getting out of me for now."
Chuuya lets out another huff to prove his point, and holds his breath. And waits.
A beat.
Two more.
It's Dazai who sighs in relief.
And what a sight to behold: his lithe form slumping forward against Chuuya's, the tension in his muscles dissipating with the remnants of the afternoon heat.
"Whew," Dazai finally manages after a while, "you finally said it."
"... Huh?"
"I told you, right? I'll find out soon."
"You didn't read my notes."
"Of course not," Dazai laughs. "You /were/ mumbling a little too loud to yourself these days, though. It was easy to piece things together."
Ugh.
Chuuya rubs at his temples. If only he has something to chuck into Dazai's face right now.
It doesn't explain Dazai's exaggerated reaction just now, though...which he isn't at all trying to cover up, unlike all the times he played pranks before. Unless..
...Oh.
It takes Chuuya only a moment: "You—"
"Yeah," Dazai breathes out. "And that's all you're getting from me, too."
No problems there. Chuuya likes straightforward people.
He still headbutts Dazai for it, though. "Payback," he says simply before he hears complaints.
"Fair enough," Dazai mutters under his breath. "We even now?"
"Yeah."
A bit anticlimactic, all things considered, but Chuuya finds he likes it, too.
Now that that's out of his system, though... "Now what?"
It's a pretty loaded question, and they both know it. No one just suddenly admits and enters into... whatever this is, without a plan.
Dazai stares back, just as cluelessly— but not for long: "I think I know what."
Chuuya decides he still doesn't like that grin at all.
"Remember the lab primer in science? There's a certain procedure we follow to investigate what we don't know."
This time, it's Chuuya who slumps. Good lord.

Step Eight: Start over.

I was wondering what you feel about the opinion that GRRM hates feminine/non-warrior women because they (Catelyn, Cersei, Sansa) are written with intentional flaws while his warrior girls (Brienne, Arya) are not? Do you agree with that? That Brienne and Arya have no flaws? It was some dumb meta about how the world is against Brienne, but she never does harm to the world, so she's a bad character and GRRM is a misogynist or something. (1/2)
I disagree obviously. Just because Brienne is not a demon doesn't mean she doesn't have flaws or she's a bad character lol. Like... why can't we have an angel in a world of monsters? What's wrong with that? Are these people jealous that Brienne is one of those pure character that their faves are not, so they feel like dismissing her as a bad character to make themselves feel good? I'm asking you because I know you love Catelyn and Brienne so I know you're the best person to ask this. Ty (2/2)
... I mean this has a long answer to give but this *meta* seems to me like it was written by someone who has no idea what they’re talking about when it comes to who grrm hates in his writing or his supposed misogyny because they have it all wrong and I think you pretty much guessed the point, but in order, let’s... tackle this one by one:
grrm doesn’t at all hate cat and sansa and their flaws are... flaws in the sense that he’s writing them like good people who aren’t 100% perfect but like.. sansa’s *flaws* from the beginning are stuff that’s common to most 12yo girls in existence and she overcomes them and she’s generally a good and kind and caring person whose main trait is that she’s good and kind and stays like that so how exactly now she’s written... like you’re supposed to hate her? bc she’s not. grrm never wanted you to hate sansa. he wrote her like a realistic 11-15yo but like most of us were like that at that age or have had friends who were like that, so... what the fuck. catelyn.... like guys the one heavy flaw she has is her treatment of jon but she’s written as a smart person who’s trying to live in a misogynistic society as best as she can and she’s written like a tragic character but grrm obviously likes her/loves writing her, it’s.... like if you read her chapters you can see how much work/love/craft went into them and how he worked on her bg very carefully also she is more of a protagonist than ned until asos when it comes to the stark side like.... how is giving her human flaws meaning he hates her?? grrm doesn’t hate her. the fact that she and brienne end up doing the knightly/lady sworn sword thing is even more of a proof he doesn’t but more on that later;
cersei... well I mean grrm obv doesn’t like cersei that much but a) he’s written a version of that character at least thrice already including the asoiaf one so I think he has an ex like that that he doesn’t particularly remember fondly or smth but like... she’s written to be a villain. she’s a villain. she’s a very well-crafted/thought out villain with a realistic background but diff. from cat and sansa she’s there to be the antagonist period, and just like... cersei and cat are aesthetically the same archetype and they couldn’t be more different so idk wtf are people smoking when saying that and if they can’t read cat chapters without fandom-hates-her glasses idk what to tell them;
brienne and arya have flaws are we serious, like arya has the flaws everyone has at that age (too impulsive/tends to judge people very fast/is too fixed on things/doesn’t listen to people etc) but like she’s fucking nine when it starts and she gets traumatized to hell and back, like arya’s sl to me is creepy af because no 12yo should be like that and it’s a very good trauma exploration but like....... she has faults but she’s not a bad person for obvious reasons as in SHE’S A KID same as sansa same as EVERYONE UNDERAGE IN THESE BOOKS except partially joffrey and even he has a background that explains how he is, like.... arya and sansa are supposed to be written in an equally sympathetic but specular way because they have opposite ways of reacting to trauma ie sansa holds on to her kindness arya gets progressively detached because she has to kill people to survive but you’re not supposed to hate either of them? honestly grrm wrote them with the exact same stakes, anyone who thinks it’s qualitatively different needs to go back and reread it with some intellectual honestly;
brienne... I mean we serious? the thing with brienne is that she’s a fundamentally good person who is written to become the ultimate example of a good knight™ and who is supposed to restore decency to the title after the institution has crumpled into the dirt, so... she’s... good, same as dunk is in the novels, but like: lmao she has a lot of faults, first thing that at the beginning she judges everyone on sight and sees everything in black and white, she has zero preservation instinct and nonexisting selfesteem because she thinks her life isn’t worth her vows and she thinks she’s not fit for anything she tries to do and would have died for a guy who danced with her once like sorry that’s not healthy, which are all things,... she’s... getting over.... because she has a character arc, but saying that brienne isn’t realistic or doesn’t have faults is ridiculous because she is;
now, this concept that grrm is misogynist is idiotic because a guy who has an insane number of female povs - some of which are the same trope ie brienne and arya - and have all a distinct different personality and voice and none of them are like too idealized or too evil and are to a level relatable means he’s everything but because a misogynyst wouldn’t be able to pull that off. like, in any other book brienne and arya would have been the same character, in his they’re not, so maybe like... give him some credit in the sense that the moment half of your povs are well-written realistic female characters and the ones without povs are equally well-written/manage to be fan faves (ie marg and olenna) maybe he’s just... not... a misogynist nor hates women so that’s out of the way;
re cat and brienne: like... saying ‘ah he hates catelyn’ when catelyn is literally the first *lady* who treats brienne like a friend/peer/person she cares about is completely fucking idiotic because guess what if you’re like brienne usually most Attractive Girls™ the way cat is are not your best friends in life (I mean c. calls her a cow and they didn’t even meet on paper lmao and it’s obvious from b’s povs that she has bad experiences with other women in general), so the fact that cat actually sees her worth, accepts her as her sworn sword doing a thing that’s usually just between men, trusts her with her daughters’ lives, thinks she’s a better knight than jaime could be and treats her as it befits her station (in riverrun she had dresses made for her but brienne wouldn’t wear them) and is actually good to one of the few good people in these books who gets treated like dirt by most others should tell you exactly what grrm thinks of catelyn, ie nothing too bad, and that she’s a good person who fucked up on one thing that the narrative knows and doesn’t excuse, but like.... lmao that entire argument falls flat just for that;
Are these people jealous that Brienne is one of those pure character that their faves are not, so they feel like dismissing her as a bad character to make themselves feel good? you’re on to smth but as I ranted on twitter once: this all falls again to the fact that people Cannot Accept The Fact That An Ugly Girl Who Is Going To Stay Ugly is one of the moral hearts of these series and is An Actual Good Person Who Deserves Good Things in spite of not performing femininity, and who’s going to get the guy of her dreams (who is Hot) without settling and without becoming beautiful, and she’ll manage to realize her dreams even without becoming beautiful and regardless of having been treated like dirt because of her looks all her life, and like... apparently that is too much or too complicated to conceive and so either they have to decide she’s not That ugly or make her things she’s not or decide she’ll die early wow and whatever else, but like: the problem is that usually the Pure Moral Center Of A Story Who Happens To Be Female and gets her dreams and the hot dude is standard attractive. brienne is not, she has trauma because of that, and she’s still the best person in there (or one of the best) and she’ll get her dreams and the hot dude, and people can’t handle this specific concept nor admit that grrm, having done a thing that no one else has until now because there’s no other brienne in genre literature/in that way, is everything but a misogynist, since he actually, ah, wait, gave decent rep to people who most times are relegated to playing the best friend who stays single or are usually evil bc ugly antagonist women are everywhere, ugly protagonist women who are actually Good People™ and aren’t a paragon of Pure Virtue and don’t die virgins? not really. so: people can’t handle that brienne the way she is is a Good Person and The One True Knight In Westeros and it’s a sad thing but it just shows that maybe more people should go for that trope and that’s my two cents;
other than that no guy who can write the range of women grrm does can be a misogynist by definition, especially a guy who managed to get perfectly how it feels being a straight nonstandard attractive woman in society in general because my friends if before I stumbled into asoiaf I never related 100% to one fictional character ever there was a reason, and I read a lot, so people can bite me on that thing;
to end and comment on one thing:
how the world is against Brienne, but she never does harm to the world
congrats to OP they went THAT close to it: that’s the entire fucking point. being like brienne in her society (and not performing femininity™ correctly in ours) means that whatever you do people will criticize you and treat you like dirt even if you don’t mean them any harm. the world is absolutely against her because all the circumstances are stacked against her - she’s a woman, doing a man’s job, looking nonattractive and therefore other women treat her like dirt and men don’t consider her or see her as a threat and hate her for it because she’s better at their job than they are, wanting to be a knight which is a thing that’s technically forbidden bc women can’t be anointed as far as the westerosi law says, who’s doing that because she knows she’s good at it but every single person in her way doesn’t want her to succeed except for a handful, can’t use femininity to navigate the world and she has to survive as a woman in a men’s world in an extremely misogynistic medieval society and there’s a reason why no one but three people takes her seriously, ie that if you don’t count a few people in f&b that are history book material in her context/timeframe she’s an unicum and people tend to dislike it when you’re an unicum/sticking out/wanting to go against the system. the system is absolutely stacked against her, when everything she wants is do good to others and making her father proud and be a knight and find love, and even if it’s not that much to ask for her it’s, on paper, impossible.... and the entire point is that as impossible as it looks she’s definitely going to get it because she’s written exactly for that, and if people haven’t grasped that it’s her arc - overcoming a misogynistic society and living beyond gender roles regardless of your looks which in itself is groundbreakingly feminist - sorry for them but they’ll have a bad wake up call when grrm gets wow/ados out.
and that’s my two cents, but like: there’s nothing wrong in liking characters With Faults or evil ones and you can find Good Ones boring, just don’t try to make it pass like the author is a misogynist because the Good Character is a nonstandard attractive gnc woman because that’s actually a thing no one else ever did.
and this stated brienne is more similar to book!sansa than book!arya personality-wise so it’s an argument that doesn’t hold on even joking. /two cents

Starry Nights
You met Calum when he was younger. As you sit and watch him now, you remember the way his voice cracked sometimes, or the way he’d get fluster when girls would approach him. You remember the lanky boy he used to be and how he never really talked much. He still doesn’t. But right now, there’s still not much he has to say as he tips the glass bottle up.
You’re holding yours between your fingers and blinking your vision into focus. You’re praying your cheeks aren’t red, but you know they are. You know anyone can look at you and have a barometer for how much you’ve had. Tonight though is a lighter night. Calum called you, while you were eating lunch and sounded like he had a lot on his mind but didn’t want to disrupt your day.
“Silence from you this long is not good,” you say, setting the bottle onto the tap between you and Calum. Duke’s perched under the sun chairs, right under Calum’s feet.
Calum turns, taking in the inky black of your hair. The way it fades almost matching exactly to the darkening sky. “I don’t know,” he starts, sighing. “I’ve got the life I’ve always dreamed up.” You nod, waiting for him to continue as you wipe the sweat off the glass off your fingers into the palm of your hand. “But sometimes I feel like a fraud.”
Without thinking you let a small scoff out. You’re not stranger to that feeling. “Me if you asked my family what the hell I was doing with my life.”
You moved out to LA just to get a change of pace. And while it wasn’t necessarily a lie that you were moving because of a job, you hadn’t told your parents about the whole art thing too. How you had gotten serious about it. You didn’t tell them about the nights you spent in the basement of a studio, splattering paint and failing, but also succeeding and landing into art shows. It really was only supposed to be a hobby, like it was when you were a kid. But you couldn’t silence the voice inside your head that made you crave the artistic release.
“You’re not a fraud. I’m sure they don’t think that.”
“Well, it’s because they don’t know,” you laugh. “But you’re not a fraud either, Calum. If I’m not a fraud, then you’re not a fraud.”
It’s at times like this, as you stare up into the skies that you wish more often you could see the stars out here. You know they’re there, but you can’t see them. It’s like the best friend that somehow wound up at a different university, or moved halfway across the country, you always keep contact, you know what’s happening with each other. But you can’t see each other like you want.
“Do you think the stars feel like frauds? Like, think about it,” you start. “We’re seeing death right before our eyes. Dying light and do you ever think stars wish we understood how they felt? Like they’re not some sort of symbol for hope or whatever. They’re literally dying.”
“God,” Calum laughs after licking his lips to collect the last drops of his ginger beer. “You surely know how to make this morbid.”
“No--really, like think about it! Stars we are seeing died light years ago. What hope is left?”
“Residual,” Calum counters. “Maybe even after we’re gone we can mean something to somebody. Even if it’s just like, one person, or even if it doesn’t make waves like we wanted. Like, maybe my music doesn’t have to turn tides now, but it can mean something to some kid forty years from now.”
And you grin, bringing your bottle to your lips. Calum turns and watching you, the smile evident even as you drink. “You little shit!”
“Feel like a fraud still?” you ask. The second you started being negative you knew Calum would counter you. Which would in turn help him counter his own negativity.
“Not as much as before. But it’s more like, why did I get chosen for this and not some other kid? I could’ve had football. I had a whole other route laid out for me.”
“You lucked out kid. Because you’re talented and because you deserve it. Sure, you could’ve had success with football. But let’s be honest, it’s grueling--physically. If you got severely injured what else would you have had? Let’s be honest. You were a kid when all that was starting, would you have had the same guidance, and even bad experiences about being smart with money.”
“It would’ve been a whole different world for sure,” he muses. It’s silent between you, the both of you reclined into the seats. Duke’s tags and paws click signaling his trot back to the opened back door. “Pool’s cleaned,” Calum says, turning to face you again.
His grin is boyish but drips with whatever crazy plan he has concocting in his head. “What’s that supposed to mean to me, Hood?”
“You’ll see,” he laughs, standing. He pulls his arms through the white tank and slips out of the basketball shorts. He takes out in a run before letting himself sink into the water. It rushes around his head and ears and for a second, it’s just him and the tile of his pool, just him and all the racing thoughts being pushed out of his head because water is invading.
Then he’s floating, arms rising and his head breaks the surface just in time to see you jumping into the water next to him. The wave crashes over him and he laughs, waiting for your head to crest the surface too.
Both of you are disrobed, letting your limbs bob as the water settles back down around you, the water is bathed by the twinkling string lights that finally flicker on and even though the amber hue is soft, it’s bright. He can watch the water refract light off your skin.
Water drips from your lashes and you wipe at your face with wet hands. “You’re a mad man, Hood.”
“Thanks. For listening.”
“You’re not a man of many words. It’s not hard,” you laugh, using your arms and hands like a scoop to carry some water up and then dump it back into the pool. It trickles down your arm. “But I mean, you can always come to me. Just to talk. Just to listen. Whatever it is.”
“It means a lot, you know.” Calum says, standing not too far in front of you. You catch the reflection of his gold chain against his chest and silver bracelet dazzling on his wrist. “And you know, I’m there too. For you.”
You nod. “I know.”
Calum swims to the edge, arms resting onto the scratchy concrete. “Maybe the stars feel a little bit like you said. Like they want us to understand that they are dying light. But still light enough to guide the way.”
You join him, arms holding you up too as your legs kick in front of you. “And maybe having choices isn’t all bad. Can’t move forward if you’re so worried about that left turn you took, you know?”
His laughter is mostly an exhalation as you too share a short gaze, soft and understanding. The right side of his face lifting higher into a smile. “Some might call it a right turn.”
“I agree with the some people.”

friendship week day 1: first impressions ft. whiskey and tango
something i wrote for day 1 of @birlcholtz‘s friendship week :) sorry it got a little long lol
can also be found on my ao3
Connor’s not nervous about his first day of school. He’s not. If he were, he would know about it. He would totally know about it.
It’s just, you know, first impressions, and all that, his first time talking to his new hockey teammates and other dudes in his grade that he’ll have to see every day for the next four years, but that’s nothing, and he’s not nervous about any of it.
That being said, he is feeling a little unsure about everything their tour guide - Bitty - is telling them. Connor knows this is university, and he knows that the Haus is essentially just a frat house, but still. Raging parties? Keg flips? Whatever the fuck “Nursey Patrol” is? None of those things really fit Connor.
He’s just not going to belong here. He can feel it. He wonders if it’s too late to go home.
And there’s this other guy, Tango, who keeps asking Bitty all these questions, and when he’s not asking questions, he’s talking Connor’s ear off.
“Yeah, so I’m from Jersey City, my whole family is, and I’ve lived there my whole life, it’s really nice, I think New Jersey sort of gets a bad rep for being dirty and rude but it’s honestly not that bad, and my Mama makes the best garlic bread you’ll ever taste, dude, I’m serious. I’ve heard Bitty bakes, did you hear that? Bitty bakes, right? Anyway, I wanted to give the recipe to him so I could eat it here, too, but Mama says that she’s not sharing her garlic bread recipe with anyone, and I said, ‘But, Ma, I’m gonna miss you so much while I’m at Samwell, I’ll need something to remind me of you,’ and she just said, ‘Tony, I’ll send you garlic bread every week if you want but I’m not letting you give that recipe away,’ but I think she’d change her mind if she met Bitty, I mean he’s really nice and she’d just love him, don’t you think?”
It takes Connor a second to realize that Tango’s done talking, and is looking at him expectantly, waiting for him to answer. Honest to God, Tango must have said all of that in one breath. Connor sort of zoned out.
“Uh,” he says. “Yeah. Sure.”
Tango grins. “Awesome. Or no, wait, ‘swawesome, right? That’s what we’re supposed to say, since we’re on the hockey team, isn’t it?”
Connor blinks. “Yeah, I guess.”
He’s not really sure if they’re supposed to say anything. Or at least, if he’s supposed to say anything. The more time Connor spends learning about the rest of the team, and hearing Tango talk and talk like if he stops he’ll pass out, the more Connor feels like he made a stupid decision in coming here. Sure, the guys on his last hockey team were loud and crazy sometimes, but that wasn’t a professional thing. This is more legit. Connor’s at Samwell to play hockey, and even if he doesn’t fit in with his teammates, at least he’ll do well in their games.
Because even if no one likes him, that’s not what's important. It doesn’t matter how they judge his personality and shit, as long as they’re judging him okay on the ice. That’s what he’s here for. That’s what matters. Not making friends. Hockey.
Right?
Tango stops talking to Connor so he can assault Bitty with a fresh barrage of questions, granting Connor’s ears a much-needed reprieve, and he lets his mind wander for a bit, thinking about home, and his family, and his little sister, and his…his girlfriend.
Maybe he shouldn’t think about her too much.
“So what’s your favorite team?” Tango asks Chowder, and Connor just barely avoids rolling his eyes.
“Fuck the LAX bros!” Nursey announces, and Connor doesn’t really get that, because a couple of the lacrosse dudes helped him find the cafeteria yesterday, and they’d seemed nice enough.
“Your name’s Whiskey, right?” Lardo, the team manager, asks him, and Connor nods and doesn’t say anything.
Whiskey. He’s not Connor anymore, he’s Whiskey, because this is hockey, and no one in hockey is named Connor.
Whiskey’s not bad. Whiskey’s really not that bad. It’s the same nickname he’s had since the seventh grade, and maybe his mother never really liked it, but Connor never minded it too much.
He hopes the others don’t mind it, either. Chowder tries to convince him to change it to Whiskers, and Connor flat-out refuses, but also wonders if the others don’t like his nickname. Then he thinks that he’d probably make a significantly worse first impression if he was called Whiskers, because they’d all be expecting some nice, outgoing, friendly guy, and Connor’s…not that.
But Tango is, and even after the tour, even when they’re out on the ice at the first practice the next day, he will not stop talking. Connor wonders if he’s ever self-conscious about his nickname, if he ever worries about girlfriends he’s left back at home, and then thinks, probably not.
“So anyway,” Tango says, skating next to Connor during laps, and panting slightly as he talks. “Are you going to the first Kegster of the year?”
Connor frowns, focusing more on the ice ahead of him than on Tango. “No. Why would I do that?”
“Well, I just thought,” Tango says, looking confused. “that you’d be there. Everyone else is going to be.”
Connor snorts. “Don’t understand why they’d want to.”
Tango stares at him. “It’s a Kegster,” he says, as if that explains everything.
“Look,” Connor says. “I appreciate you for asking, but I’m really not interested. I don’t like parties.”
“How can you not like parties?” Tango’s eyes are blown wide. “Parties are so fun! You get to talk to people, and dance, and listen to really loud music, and there are drinks, and your name is Whiskey! I bet there’ll be whiskey there, or, I don’t know, maybe just beer, I’m not totally sure how college parties work, but it’ll still be really, really fun, and you can stay up really late and talk to girls!”
Connor feels his jaw tighten but doesn’t say anything.
“And you just gotta go, Whiskey, you have to!” Tango finishes.
Connor skids to a halt on the ice and scowls at him. “I’m not going. Sorry. I wouldn’t even know who to talk to.”
“You can talk to me!” Tango says, also stopping and nodding emphatically. “I mean, we’re friends, right?”
Connor blinks. They are?
“Come oooooooooon, Whiskey. Please?”
And before Connor's brain registers what he’s doing, he says, “Ok, fine. I’ll go.”
Tango grins and opens his mouth to say something, but Coach Hall starts yelling at them for stopping in the middle of warmups, so they keep going.
Maybe Connor still doesn’t want to go to the Kegster, but at least he’ll have Tango to talk to. His…pseudo-friend? Tango must not care about how different he and Connor are if he wants to be friends with him.
Whiskey smiles a tiny bit, in spite of himself, and skates a little faster.

Digimon Adventure Shipping Masterpost - Part 1
Tumblr media
Digimon is the first fandom I ever got into where I started actively shipping characters, and Digimon is a treasure trove for multi-shippers since it features a large group of friends being forced together for long periods of time and being emotionally vulnerable while fighting for their lives and relying on one another.
Now for this reason, I maintain that there’s a good basis for nearly every possible ship out there and I’ll be talking about most of them within the Adventure continuity. Just giving the lowdown about them, fairly listing their pros and cons, and explaining why someone might like them while others might not. Afterwards giving my personal thoughts on each.
Now a few ground rules before we start. First off I’m only covering the adventure seasons and movies, minus the reboot and the newest anniversary film as I haven’t seen those yet. Secondly I’ll only be covering the main human characters of those films/seasons. Last off, I won't be covering crack and OT3s, just because this list is too damn long as it is. Characters must have interacted on screen before, be no more than five years apart, and this probably can go without saying, but they can’t be related to each other.
Oh, and any antis starting shit will be blocked!
So without further ado, LET THE SHIPPING BEGIN
Tai x Matt (Taito)
Tumblr media
Pros: If you like rivals to lovers, boy do I have a ship for you. Taito is like the typifier of this trope. They constantly fight, but are best friends, and when they do argue it’s usually over deeper things than just their rivalry/jealousy. Once the fighting is over, they tend to become stronger people with a firmmer relationship. They also hold a lot of respect for each other that only grows as they get older.  While not a ‘canon’ ship, (most of these aren’t) there’s a lot of gay subtext between them, especially towards the end of Tri. Now how much of that is the writers throwing the fans a bone and how much of it is just anime being anime, who knows.
Cons: If you’re not a fan of the rivals to lovers trope than this ship may not be for you. You may prefer them as friends only, and hey that’s valid since they indeed are friends first and foremost. Also if you’re looking for a more officially canon gay ship/rep you may be disappointed with how they are portrayed.
Personal Ranking (6/10) I’m one of those people who doesn’t typically like ‘rivals to lovers’. Just not my thing. However I’ve warmed to this ship over the years due to fanworks and the fact that Tri is indeed very, very gay.
Tai x Sora (Taiora)
Tumblr media
Pros: I don't know if this is the most popular pairing in the show, but it’s high up there. All throughout the first season and the second movie these two were heavily hinted at. Especially in the dubs. Sadly it came to nothing, but for a lot of people this was the first thing they shipped in the fandom.  But beyond just the hints, these two have that ‘childhood best friends to lovers’ dynamic that resonates with a lot of people. They’ve known each other the longest out of the group and were friends before getting stuck in the digital world. Now add in how they they compliment each other so well, Sora’s level headedness getting through to Tai stubbornness, Tai’s optimism and can do attitude encouraging the more doubt ridden Sora, and their shared interests in sports and kicking butt, and you can see how this pairing took off.
Cons: The writers tried their damndest to sink this ship in season two by pairing off Sora with Matt. Much to everyone’s frustration.  Even Sorato fans agree that it was handled poorly. Since then, the writers of the fourth film and Tri have tried to keep things more open ended between the three of them, but for some it’s not enough and the bad writing can indeed kill this ship.  There’s also the usual reasons of simply not gelling with their dynamic or preferring them with other characters. Some may even like the unusual subversion of the lead guy not getting the girl but remaining good friends.
Paronal Ranking (8/10) - Count me with those that first shipped them in season one when it first aired. That said, they were never my absolute favorites so season two’s reveal didn't hurt me as much as it did for some others. It’s still my preferred ship for the two of them, but I’m flexible and open to others.
Tai x Izzy (Taishirou)
Tumblr media
Pros: While not as popular as the previous ships, Taishirou is really cute. Izzy and Tai interact with each other a lot. In fact Tai might be the character Izzy is on screen with the most besides his digimon. They’re very much a comedy duo, but with enough underlining heart to heart moments to sell the idea that they have a working basis for something deeper.  Also Izzy isn’t afraid to call Tai out on his bullshit, which is good, but it’s not like Tai ever actually listens.
Cons: They are primarily a comedy team. Tai is very much a foil for Izzy’s more serious nature, but play for laughs rather than angst like it is with Taito. If that doesn’t jive with you then this ship isn’t going to appeal to you as much as some others.
Personal Ranking (7/10) - I more drawn to this dynamic then say the aggressive sexual tension of Taito, so this was always going to rank higher than that one for me.
Tai x Mimi (Michi)
Tumblr media
Pros: Mimi is one of the more popular characters to ship with. She gets paired with nearly everyone in the group routinely. Now this isn’t the most popular ship featuring her, but it has its share of hardcore supporters.  I think it’s cause both she and Tai are the most outgoing and optimistic of the group. So it’s a case of two very upbeat people pumping each other up while also being forward enough to call out each others bull.
Cons: If you prefer Mimi with someone else this is obviously not going to appeal to you. There’s also the issue of her not being with the main group in season two and therefore doesn’t have as strong a relationship with the others as she should.
Personal Ranking (7/10) - I really like just about all of the Mimi ships and this is no exception.
Tai x Joe (Taijyou)
Tumblr media
Pros: If Mimi is over-shipped then Joe is under-shipped. All the Joe ships are underrated, imho. Heck Joe himself is underrated. He plays off most of the characters really well, including Tai. If you like ‘opposites attract’ then you can’t get more opposite than Joe and Tai and they’re really entertaining for it. Plus there also those more serious moments to suggest that they are good friends and have that basis to build off of.
Cons: They’re again a comedy duo, and that might not be your thing. More than that though, they have the same arc. They’re opposites but they grow and develop in much the same way. As such, they don’t team up as much as say Tai and Izzy do.
Personal Ranking (6/10) - I really like Joe, he’s one of my favs, but this isn’t the best ship with him. Though it still can be cute on occasion.
Tai x T.K. (Taikeru)
Tumblr media
Pros: This pairing only works if we’re talking about season two or later, and that is where they have less interaction. But I won’t act like there’s zero basis here. They were stuck together in S1 same as all the others and did have lots of friendly interactions there, they do team up now and then in 02, and they are there with the rest of the group in Tri.  As far as dynamics go, both older Tai and older T.K. are very chill and laid back people. They’re more level headed, but always up for fun when they aren’t busy saving the world, so it’s easy see them getting along well with one another. There’s also the unrequited crush route if you wanna go that way with T.K.
Cons: There is an age gap here. Now it doesn’t matter as much in later seasons or post series, but it can be enough to put people off initially. Especially since it’s the time period when that age gap would actually get in the way is also when they have most of their interactions with one another.  I call this a good for fanfiction but not so good for AMVs pairing.
Personal Ranking (4/10) - Yeah not enough of them interacting when they’re both older to really sell this one for me. I’ve read the occasional fanfic with them, but I don't actively ship it myself.
Tai x Davis (Taisuke)
Tumblr media
Pros: Davis and Tai are two peas in a pod. In fact they are so alike that the series comments on this several times and Tai even appoints him as the new leader. As such they get to bond over a lot of things on the occasions they do interact.  Also, while Davis is the same age as T.K., he and Tai only ever interact in season 02 when they’re both already young teens. So things are a little less awkward on that front.  There’s also the unrequited crush route, or post series fanfic, as always.
Cons: They only ever interact in 02 where Tai’s role is greatly reduced, so limited screen time. Hopefully the upcoming anniversary movie will give us some more interaction between all of the 02 gang and the original group, regardless of shipping. There’s also the fact that age gap will be a hurdle for some people no matter what point in their timeline you have them hook up. Three or four years don’t matter when their both adults in their twenties, but it can make a difference in high school, so context is key with a ship like this. It helps that the show covers several years and all the characters age, but it’s up to you if that’s enough or not.  Then there’s people who just don’t like their dynamic and think they’re too similar to each other.
Personal Ranking (5/10) I like it more than Taikeru, if only because Davis is my favorite character in 02 and like the rest of the new digidestined, he really doesn’t get enough love from the fandom. That said it’s still not that great of ship for all of the previously stated cons. I’ll give the occasion fan fiction or AMV a shot, but it’s all about context and how it’s presented.
 Tai x Yolie (Taiyako)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pros: She is the oldest of the 02 gang, and like Davis she only ever interacts with Tai in S2, so it’s a little less awkward to ship them than some.  Also she’s really assertive and outgoing and not one to put up with bull from anybody; so she she can balance out Tai’s impulsiveness in theory. Likewise he can calm her down enough to think, if we’re talking post Tri.
Cons: They barely interact even in 02. They’re together in group scenes and there’s the potential they’ve interacted off screen, but there’s no ‘one on one’ screen time for them. Because of that, plus the small age gap between them, no one really ships these two. They’re the ultimate rare pair, and once again I hope the new movie will provide some genuine interaction between the 02 gang and the original group. Cause at the moment, dynamic wise, they’re kind of just a watered down Michi.
Personal Ranking (4/10) - Yeah I’d just sooner just read about Michi, but the rarity of them does pique my interest just a little bit. I’m now genuinely curious how they would play out post Tri.
Tai x Cody (Taiori)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pros: Does anyone ship this? Ok, well in the interest of fairness, I did say the cut off was five years and that they had to interact at some point and they do fit the bill, so... Here I go.  If you wanted to, you could do a post series route with these two. One is a lawyer for digimon rights and the other is an UN ambassador for the Digital World, so they would work together often. So there’s some grounds there for a childhood friends become co-workers to lovers plot.  You can also pull a one sided school boy crush if you go for a pre-Tri route instead.
Cons: Like with Yolie, Tai only interacts with Cody in group settings during 02 and never one on one. There’s the potential that they hung out more off screen, but unlike Yolie, the age gap between them is wide enough that that seems improbable.   Maybe, The Last Evolution will give us something more to go off with, just for their friendship sake if nothing else. After all these two will be working closely together someday according to the epilogue.
Personal Ranking (2/10) There’s just not enough there. I might be interested in that future based story I pitched, but even then it’s a stretch.
Tai x Ken (Kenchi)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pros: Ken is unique in the fact that he’s a former villain, and in Tri it seemed as if he had reverted back to his old ways. This ultimately proved not to be the case, but since Tai is the main hero of Tri, you had the basis for a hero/villain ship for a while.
Cons: Like with all of the 02 cast, Tai doesn’t interact with Ken much. They appear in group scenes during 02 and that’s it. Even in Tri, it turns out that wasn’t the real Ken all along. Though his VA there is going to be his VA in final movie, which is cool I guess.  There’s better ships with theses two, and if you want a villian/hero thing there’s more options for Ken. Plus there’s the awkward age gap, tho it’s no worse then than say Taisuke.  Also Ken does have a canon partner in Yolie, if canon matters to you.
Personal Ranking (3/10) Not enough one on one scenes to get a feel for their dynamic imo.
Tai x Jun (Taijun)
Tumblr media
Pros: What do you mean Jun isn’t a main character? Yeah, I don’t care. She should have been given a bigger role in 02, but that’s a rant for another time. The appeal of Taijun is a pairing of the spares essentially. He’s Sora’s ex, and she’s Matt’s ex. (well sort of) But that leaves you with a tantalizing ‘let's pretend hook up to make our exes jealous only to fall in love for real’ plot.  There’s other routes you can go with obviously, but that one in particular makes the pairing more unique than other ships.
Cons: Obviously if you don't like Jun as a character, then your not going to like this ship. She’s pretty decisive within fandom.
Personal Ranking (7/10) - Yeah, I really, really like Jun y’all. Plus anything thing that sees her treated better than how Matt did in 02 is a win in my book.
Tai x Catherine ( Taicat )
Tumblr media
Pros: It’s cannon that Tai has a crush on her and her openly flirts with her. He also has an amusing rivalry with TK for her affections. It’s harmless cute fluff and interferes with the love triangle
Cons: Catherine is a pretty bland character. She’s pretty and French and that’s all there is to remember of her.
Personal Ranking (3/10) I suppose there’s a certain appeal to having a semi-cannon ship that is so barely explored that you could do anything you wanted with it and it wouldn’t be out of character, but beyond that I can’t see anything else to recommend it.
Tai x Meiko (Meichi)
Tumblr media
Pros: They have some cute moments together in Tri, though they are subtle. It does feel at times like the writers introduced her character as a means of resolving the Tai/Sora/Matt love triangle. Though they never follow through with that completely.  In terms of the dynamics Meiko is a complete woobie. A ‘moe’ is what I believe to be the term in Japanese. Shy, quite, cute, and in need of protection. So you get plenty of instances of Tai being the big hero and saving her. Tai himself is also much more subdued in Tri and therefore less impulsive and reckless, so he’s very considerate of Meiko’s emotional needs, much than he would have been had they met earlier. In a way she just shows off how much he has grown as a character. So basically lots of hurt/comfort angst going on.
Cons: If you’re not a fan of Meiko, then you wouldn’t be a fan of this ship. She’s not as well developed as the rest of the cast due to only appearing in Tri, and she relies more heavily on her archetype to carry her interactions with the mains. So how much you’re predisposed to that archetype factors heavily in shipping her with anyone.
Personal Ranking (5/10) I’m lukewarm to Meiko as a character. Her interactions with Tai can be cute, but she just doesn’t grab my interests the same as Jun does.
Matt x Sora (Sorato)
Tumblr media
I just realized that this very official screenshot from the fifth movie, has a poster advertising a band with the words ‘fucking night’ on it. This is suppose to be a kids show. Lol. Never change Japan.
Pros: The ship is about as close to canon as you can get. They’re confirmed dating in season two and it’s movie, and there are hints that they wound up together in the epilogue.  Also there is a basis for the relationship given their interactions in the first season and Tri. They communicate well and trust each other. Sora comes to rely on Matt in ways she just doesn’t with Tai. He’s an outlet for her to let her guard down and share things, while she helps him come out of his shell sometimes.
Cons: The writing for them in 02 wasn’t good. They got together with zero build up and it came across as very forced. Since then, both in the fifth movie and in Tri, the writers have been pushing a subtle love triangle between them and Tai. Leaving things more open ended to appease the fans who were angry over how Taiora ended.  Also, dynamic wise, they can be kind of boring on their own. Without Tai there, there’s no drama between them, and that can be a pro or a con depending on your tastes.
Personal Ranking (6/10) It’s not a bad ship, but the writing in 02 lets it down and, I still prefer Taiora over all.
Matt x Izzy (Yamashirou)
Tumblr media
Pros: It’s the ‘cool dude’ who tries way to hard to be edgy being paired with the nerd who sees through his bullshit, but they’re both level headed enough to work together if need be, and they do indeed work together as a team quite well.
Cons: Izzy and Matt don't interact one on one often. Usually when they do, Izzy is sandwiched between Matt and Tai as they work on some problem or other. People who do even ship it, often just go all the way and make it an OT3 with Matt/Izzy/Tai.
Personal Ranking (5/10) There’s a basis for something there if you want to explore it, but both characters have better options.
Matt x Mimi (Mimato)
Tumblr media
Pros: Well for one, it’s Mimi. She’s one of the few people who can get under Matt’s aloof exterior. It’s also a case of hyperactive girl paired with quite and closed off guy, if you like that dynamic.
Cons: It has all the same cons as Michi. Mimi is absent in 02, she and Matt usually interact within a group setting, and there’s more popular pairings out there for both of them. So if you ship either one with someone else, you may not be inclined to ship this.
Personal Ranking (7/10) I like Mimi, so I’ll always like this pairing to some degree, but it’s about the same level as Michi for me.
Matt x Joe (Jyouato)
Tumblr media
Pros: If Izzy is Tai’s foil, than Joe is Matt’s foil. They get a lot of one on one scenes and come to depend on one another more so than then they do with most of the group.  Plus it’s the geeky nerd paired with the cool kid. Joe isn’t confident but he holds a secret inner strength. While Matt appears calm on the surface but has a lot of issues underneath. So if you like ‘opposites attract’ then this could be for you.
Cons: It’s a comedy duo, just like with Tai and Izzy. Though they do have their more serious moments and deeper conversations. Also Joe is pretty decisive in fandom. If you’re not a fan of his you’ll probably want to ship Matt with someone else. Or you can make the argument that Matt is too mean to Joe at times, though he always apologizes for it and tries not do it again.
Personal Ranking (7/10) They’re two of my favorite characters in Digimon. While this isn’t my favorite ship for them, I’m all down for indulging myself every once in a while.
Matt x Kari (Yamakari)
Tumblr media
Pros: The few people who ship this, do so because of the above scene where Matt has to protect her from Myotismon. Also if Taikeru exists, than it’s only fair if it’s counterpart does as well. You can do the same for this as you can do for that and either go a post season one ruote, or a one sided school girl crush.
Cons: Outside of that one previously mentioned interaction, Matt and Kari get very little one on one screen time. Especially in 02 and Tri, where the age gap wouldn’t matter anymore.
Personal Ranking (3/10) I rank this lower than Taikeru because there’s even less to go off of and I struggle to see how they’re supposed to work together.
Matt x Davis (Yamasuke)
Tumblr media
Pros: Same as with Taisuke, Matt is something of a mentor figure who grows to be a friend. And if you disliked Taisuke cause you found Davis and Tai to be too similar, then Matt has that shifting dynamic but with a different personality.
Cons: It also has all the same cons as Taisuke tho. They don’t interact outside of 02, and there’s a bit of an age gap. So make of that what you will.
Personal Ranking (4/10) I do genuinely like Davis and I think he gets along well with most people, but this feels too much like a watered down Taito to really care about it.
Matt x Yolei (Yamayako)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pros: Yolei does mention in 02, that she helps out Matt and his band sometimes with their audio equipment. Therefore we know for sure that they hang out together as friends even when not on screen.  Dynamic wise, its a case of nerdy girl gets the cool guy.
Cons: Near zero on screen interaction save for group scenes in 02, a small age gap,(tho smaller than most 02/Adventure ships), and its similarities to Mimato, is enough to put people off the ship.
Personal Ranking (5/10) I like the ‘nerdy girl gets the cool guy’ trope, but beyond that there’s not much to them.
Matt x Cody (Imato)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pros: In fairness this about as plausible/implausible as Taiori, I guess. If you like a post series story about two hot dads hooking up or something, then this might appeal to you. Who knows.
Cons: Unlike, Taiori, Cody and Matt don’t even have that coworker angle going for them. Matt’s a fucking astronaut! Which is stupid, but it is what it is. I can’t see any reason why they would wind up together outside of them being in the same social group. Cody is TK’s best friend, and he might hang out with Matt that way, but it’s a long shot. Also the age gap is right on the cut off, so that limits their relationship to only being post Tri.
Parsonal Ranking (1/10) I don’t know why anyone would ship this, and I honestly don't think anybody does. If someone out there does, I’ll give it a look out of sheer curiosity but that’s it.
Matt x Ken (Kenato)
Tumblr media
Pros: It’s the two broody boys together. That’s it. They’re both sad and cute, with some anger issues that they’re both trying to work past. So on that point they can connect.  So basically soft hurt/comfort fics galore.  They also get a teamup episode in 02, so we see them interact one on one.
Cons: They’re a bit too similar dynamic wise. If you don't like both of your characters in a ship to be moody and angst ridden then this might not work for you.  They also don’t interact much outside of their one team up episode, and like with Yamasuke there is an age gap.
Parsonal Ranking (4/10) Count me in the ‘too much broodiness for me’ camp.
Matt x Jun (Junato)
Tumblr media
Pros: It’s Jun. Also she clearly likes Matt in 02, and he seemingly likes her back their first episode together. They free up Tai and Sora to be together. Oh and if you like the hyperactive optimistic girl with broody cool guy, then this has you cover.  If you also a fan of the ‘assertive girl chases after her hopeless crush’ trope, like with Sonic/Amy, Kermit/Miss Piggy, or Bugs/Lola. This also covers that.
Cons: If you don’t like that trope, or dislike Jun altogether then this of course isn’t going to appeal to you. There’s also the added problem of Matt suddenly acting like a douche to her for no reason after their first episode together. It’s like the writers set them up, but then when ‘oh shit!’ when they decided to go with Sorato at the last minute and had to work to shut this pairing down. It’s dumb, and makes both of the characters look bad.
Personal Ranking (7/10) I like it more for what it could have been, rather than for what it became.
Matt x Meiko (Meimato)
Tumblr media
Pros: I swear the Tri writers tried to throw in ship folder for Meiko with all of the OG cast. As if she was the potential solution to all of the love triangles in the show or something.  Just like with Meichi, this ship is all about the hero protecting the woobie.
Cons: Once again, if you like this ship it’s going to come down to how much you like Meiko as a character and the archetype she represents.
Personal Ranking (5/10) Same score as Meichi for the same reasons.
Now I have to start on a part 2 because Tumblr won’t let me upload any more photos...
