@merinakoala Wanted a Starter!
---
Summer, 1967.
If not for the position she'd find herself in THE WAR over in Vietnam, Beth would have considered enlisting or egging for the draft. It went against her music, her preaching, and her anti-war hippie motif, but she didn't care. She was at an all time low that no amount of acid could drag her out of. No amount of artsy films or spiked drinks could distract from the fact that she didn't want to really be there. Or anywhere, for that matter.
Even THOMAS ZANE himself hadn't been doing the trick. The blindly loyal woman, devoted and entirely in love with his artistic vision, was faltering. She'd been doing some soul searching during group trips, exploring options, tours, possibly finding her way to L.A. or New York or somewhere similar. Going it alone with her guitar and beat up little Triumph, letting life sort itself out or banking out early.
The opportunity didn't seem right up to now; he was busy, their chats were far too enjoyable to spoil, she was away or he was in town, they were smoking or taking tabs, etc. etc. EXCUSES, really. But finally, stood by the inky water and bathed in golden sun, sharing laughs and using tree stumps as seats and passing joints, it seemed right.
Beth waited until a pleasant silence had fallen, a blanket of peace to be broken by the clearing of her throat and stare trained intensely onto the gentle ripples of the water out yonder. She thought he wouldn't care, after all she was one of many. And yet her heart grew rapid and breaths fleeting. "I've been thinkin'... I'm... going to leave soon. If that sounds okay to you of course, Tom."

Arthur's Valentine
pairing: lee seokmin (arthur) x fem! reader (radio dj)
genre: angst (with a pinch of fluff)
w/c: 836
It shouldn't be this hard; all I have to do is open my mouth and speak. That’s it. He spoke to himself.
Spoke too soon. As the young man brought his phone closer to his ear, he knew unwanted memories would impale right through him.
Ahh, I’m nervous—just like the old days, huh?
—-------
“Uhm, hi? " And there spoke the person on the other line.
God, I suppose this is it, he mumbled.
“Hi! Thank you for calling. This love guru is at your service! How may I help you?" The enthusiasm ignited by the feminine unconsciously placed a small smile on the young man.
"My name’s Arthur,” he said shortly. “What a lovely name! Arthur, may I hear about the love mix-up you’re experiencing? Let's see what we can do to ease that."
“She's my age, pretty, smart, and all the possible compliments you can decipher,” Arthur uttered.  “She’s pretty competitive and in...

June 21, 2016
It was dark and gloomy for a university’s commencement. A fine day, I suppose.
As I found my scholarly courage to get through the day, a ray of sunshine came close.
As if the current weather were halted, she opposed
Her eyes captivated me as if they had their own stories to tell that I could listen to.
—--
July, 30, 2016
I joined radio broadcasting, and she was there too.
Her chocolate brown eyes complement her honey-like voice.
We have exchanged facts: I was born on January 14th, and she was born on February 14th.
Therefore, I’ll call her Valentine—my Valentine.
—--
02/14/2017
As we became closer, my feelings lingered.
I felt the need to protect her and be with her.
Now, with sweaty hands and a shivering voice, I sang my heart to her.
A big amount of relief was removed from the chest as she smiled—a form of response, I believe.
—--
02/14/2018
I thank all the deities that heard my plea.
Through her laughs, sorrows, and confusion, I can see
I hope that what we have now will grow as strong as the centennial tree.
I cannot promise, Valentine, but I’ll always try to be the reason for your smile for the world to see.
—--
02/14/2019
Maybe I was wrong to assume that what we have is eternal.
I vividly remembered how her tears welled up in her eyes. I did not like that.
Maybe I missed out on the part that we were in college back then—we had our dreams before ours.
As my Valentine’s hand slipped away from my fingertips, I held on to our memories.
Memories, like footprints that were left along the coast since it was never the tourist’s destination.
Memories wherein I constantly hum to your favorite songs to not forget your voice.
Memories of your blank stares whenever you are in deep thought.
Memories that I will perpetually rewind, even if the plot is predictable.
Valentine, I still annually commemorate your natal day.
However, I think this will be the last time.
I have loved you; to lie would be a crime.
From now on, I’ll try my best to move forward, and this letter will now end to where it started.
I’ll go for now, Valentine.
-----
Every word uttered by Arthur made his throat dense, heart heavy and eyes stinging as well. When he decided to take this call, the least thing he expected are the few tears that slides his brunette eyes. It’s been years yet the pain stays as fresh as yesterday.
“Uhmm…that’s awfully despairing, Mr. Arthur.” sniffs where heard from the other line that made Arthur chuckle a bit – coarsely prompting him feel a little at ease. “Hey, are you crying?”
“Well Mr, you just chosen the words so perfectly delicate. If heart can do speak, maybe it was exactly like this” A compliment he knew nothing but a plain response. If only she could listen to this differently.
“Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well.” Philippians 2:3-4
"They were never selfish in choosing their career since they had their priorities before building their dreams together as a couple. I would like to commend Mr. Arthur for respecting Ms. Valentine’s decision. Although you have already formed a relationship closely linked to a person, it was a mutual decision to focus on their career. Love is one of the important components of a complex neurochemical system that allows the body to adapt to highly emotional situations. That is how I can define you, Mr. Arthur."
"Thank you for those uplifting words, Ms. Love Guru. Your nickname does flatter your idiom. Well, I think, this is where we end I guess? I should get going now. Again, thanks for listening."
“No worries, Mr. Arthur. Bye for now.”
“My Arthur, from Valentine”, Ms. Love Guru thought.

hello ive read your works and i absolutely love your writing and was wondering if you're able to write for suna kuroo ushijima and sakusa secretly dating their manager and when their teammates ask if they would hypothetically date their manager the boys would flat out say no and she hears them and gets upsets by it thinking its true? please thank you ❤️
I’m a sucker for this request 😭 I kinda didn’t put directly that they wouldn’t date their manager but still kinda implied with their responses, I hope that’s fine :>
Secretly Dating Their Manager
Suna Rintaro, Kuroo Tetsuro, Ushijima Wakatoshi, Sakusa Kiyoomi
Content & Warnings: angst to fluff
Tumblr media
Suna Rintaro
It was in between short breaks from training, you were discussing a few things with the coach right outside the gym. Something about the upcoming training camp in tokyo. On the other side of the wall you were standing near to, some of the members sat on the bleachers, unaware that you could overhear them.
“So anyway, I’ll leave you to it. Give me an update on the accommodation details by tomorrow” The coach headed back inside the gym while you stayed outside to review the itinerary for the training camp and partly to eavesdrop on the boys since you heard them mentioning skipping tomorrow’s practice. You wanted more details so you could scold them for even proposing to skip especially with nationals right around the corner. “Man I would do anything to have a girl cheering me on when we have games” atsumu complained. “I’m not praising you but don’t you have a line of ladies who’re desperate as hell just to talk to you?” Suna spoke in as a matter of fact way. “Yeah but I’m not into them”
“You have someone in mind?” The ever curious aran pried. “The manager” was all atsumu replied with. Your eyes nearly popped out of their sockets as you tried your best to not make your presence known. “Dumb ass, isn’t yn already unofficially tied to suna? Suna, ain’t that right? You two are always together and all that” Osamu implied. If you were being honest, a part of you wanted for suna to just reveal your relationship right then and there.
“No? She’s not my type. I’m into girls who are more laid back. We’re always together because she lives a block away from me. It would be rude of me not to walk her to and from school, yeah?”
You knew you two agreed to keep it secret. But wasn’t he doing to well at pretending that he doesn’t like you? Or he might not really like you after all? When you thought about it, it was you who first caught feelings. You who confessed. You who asked what kind of relationship you two had. You were far too upset to do more thinking but you had your duties as a manager so you wiped your teary eyes, straightened your expression. Meanwhile, the captain, kita, witnessed you do all those things and you didn’t even see him ‘til you reached the gym doors. “Yn? Are you alright? Looks like you were crying”. Panic pooled your thoughts as you rummaged for an excuse “oh kita! I uhm, I have this splitting headache, but I can manage”
“Well whatever it is, you’re not well. Come on, let’s get you to the nurse, I’ll take over your duties for today. Suna will come pick you up later so he can walk you home” kita was already gently pushing you towards the nurse’s office. “Suna? Why him?”
“Doesn’t he always walk you home anyway?” You nodded at him and chose to just do as he says. You weren’t sick but you felt a little bit better after resting.
Back at the gym, when training commenced again, suna immediately noticed your absence. You’d usually be scuttling around the gym, observing, or fixing towels and water bottles. He caught sight of kita holding your notebook and other stuff you used as a manager. He straight up asked about you. Suna jogged to where kita was, calling him “Kitashin! Wait up! Where’s yn?” he waited eagerly for an answer. “She was crying right outside the gym a moment ago, said she had a bad headache so I took her to the infirmary”. With suna’s sharp observation and deduction skills, he immediately connected the dots. “Was she.. by the left wall, behind the bleachers?”
“Yeah, that’s exactly where she was. By the way, here, take this back to her later. You’re walking her home, aren’t you?” Suna nodded before absentmindedly returning to practice. His thoughts lingering on the fact that you might have heard what he said about not liking you. Words which he never really meant. Practice passed by in an instant. Suna basically sprinted to the nurse’s office where he found you sitting on the bed by the window.
“Yn? You okay?” He was cautious, waiting for the right time to ask you about his suspicions. “Oh hey suna” He immediately gave you a confused look. Suna? Since when did you call him suna when no else was around. “Suna? Where did that come from?”
“Why not? Weren’t you into more laid back girls anyway?” You spoke without looking at him. “Fuck. I’m sorry, you know I didn’t mean that” he reasoned out and attempted to give you a hug but you simply took your stuff from him, dodged his arms and headed out of the infirmary. “Babe come on, you know I really really like you, right?” He was following you but still being cautious as to what you would be comfortable with. After finally reaching the outside of the school gates, you ended the chase and looked back at him all of a sudden. "If you want me to believe you then you probably won't mind if we finally tell everyone the truth, right?" without a single sign of hesitation, suna agreed. "yes, of course, let's do that. I don't even know why we tried hiding it in the first place, they were definitely catching on anyway".
"Good. I'm still mad at you though" then you continued to walk towards the direction of your house, suna now walking beside you instead of behind you. "You can be mad but let me carry your stuff for you". And you couldn't deny that you were head over heels for the man beside you.
Tumblr media
Kuroo Tetsuro
"You having a hard time there?" kuroo jogged up to you as you were filling up the water bottles. "Tetsu I literally do this everyday, I'm fine" you jokingly rolled your eyes at him. "okay then, I'll see you later after training" he gave you a quick kiss on your forehead before he entered the gym again. Unbeknownst to you two, yamamoto witnessed you whole exchange and although he wasn't really surprised as you and kuroo were always together anyway, he didn't know that you two were actually dating. The only ones who really knew were kai and yaku. Training went about as it usually did. The boys were then changing in the locker rooms when yamamoto chose to bring it up. "Hey kuroo, I didn't know you and yn were going out". Kuroo's eyes momentarily widened but he immediately masked it with a laid back, careless expression. "yn? why would you think that?"
"Oh come on, I saw you two flirting during our break"; "I was just helping her, I'm the captain, of course I want the team to be at ease, the manager included. It's just my duty, nothing more and nothing less" right at that moment, you were passing by the door and you overheard what he had said, yaku catching sight of you way too late as you already bolted off, the rest of the team being aware that it was you. "Fuck" kuroo cursed before hurriedly putting on his shirt, grabbing his bag, and running after you. "yn! where are you going, stop running, you're clumsy!" you turned around at his statement. "Really tetsu? You run after me and instead of apologizing, you make jokes about me being clumsy? real mature". You were about to turn around again when he pulled you gently towards him. "Look, whatever it was you heard, you and I both know I didn't mean any of it. You know how much I like you and how much I worked just to get on your good side"; "yeah well you just lost access to my good side asshole"
"You can throw anything you want at me, punch me, slap me, I'll accept it, just forgive me please?" he smiled at you that enchanting smile he always showed and you just couldn't say no. "Don't make it sound like I'm some abusive girlfriend. And I forgive you but you're not off the hook either, you gotta make it up to me"
"You know I will. I'm probably gonna get my ass beat by yaku anyway so that's already half the punishment. That guy is always on your side when the two of us have fights."
Tumblr media
Ushijima Wakatoshi
People, most especially the shiratorizawa volleyball team never really expected for ushijima to get himself into a relationship during high school. He was career driven and was almost always training, working out, studying, or conditioning himself for future matches and that wasn't a bad thing. But they didn't know that you, the manager, had managed to catch the attention of the career driven ace. He was first enamored with the thought of you that one time when the team was teasing him about not being able to bag himself a girl and you scolded them, telling them that there was nothing bad about being career oriented because you were all still young and it would be wise to focus on your own futures. Ushjima's heart did a somersault, unlike everyone else, you understood where he was coming from. Being the captain and manager duo, you and ushijima usually had meetings about a lot of matters and so, that's how your relationship developed.
During one of the training camps, you were away from the gym and you were helping the other managers prepare dinner for the various teams who were present at the camp but you wanted to catch a glimpse of your boyfriend so you snuck out for a bit to peek into one of the gymnasiums. Instead, you saw the captains from seijoh, karasuno, and dateko having a meeting. They hadn't taken notice of your presence yet and you didn't want to interrupt so you were about to leave until you heard what they were talking about, you stopped you feet from moving and chose to listen a little more:
"I'm so busy with college applications I can't find the time to even get myself a girl, my members keep teasing me about it" Daichi shyly stated. "As much as I don't want to admit this, ushijima, you probably have a line of girls wanting to get into a relationship with you, are you hiding a girlfriend or something?" Oikawa asked. You unconsciously held your breath at the question, he finally answered: "No, I don't have one. If I were to ever get into a relationship, it would probably just to try out if I'd like it. I don't have time for a fully committed relationship right now." when he uttered the final words of his answer, you immediately ran away, your presence still unknown to the captains. Instead of returning to the kitchen with the other managers, you stayed by the school swing set. You sat there, swinging yourself back and forth, thinking about what you just overheard. You did in fact agree to keep it a secret for many valid reasons but what he said really made it sound like it applied to you. Were you two not on the same page about your relationship? Were you really just an experiment for him to be able to sort his feelings? You didn't notice how nearly 45 minutes already passed with you out there. The wind was getting colder and a small shiver made its way to you every now and then... Until a jacket was draped on your shoulders from behind. You looked back to see none other than your boyfriend with a worried look on his face. "It's dinner time, what are you doing out here? It's cold" You looked away from him once again. "What are you doing here? For some experiment, you sure do seem to care a lot about me" Ushijima's heart nearly dropped at your statement, he immediately realized that you overheard his conversation with the other captains. He sat on the swing beside yours. "But I thought we had to keep it a secret, so I did. If you agree to let everyone know, I'd announce it whole heartedly, yn. I really like you. A lot." His words were surely sincere and genuine and you couldn't deny that. "I'm sorry, toshi, I know you didn't mean it, I'm just... Oikawa's right, you have a long line of girls wanting you and you just happened to be close to me so was that why you decided to date me?" you knew it was stupid to ask but you had to know. "Of course not. I decided to date you because you understood me and cared for me. Not a lot of girls are like that, you know?" he smiled your way before getting up from the swing and extending his hand to help you up. "Let's go, the other managers were worried that you didn't return, let's go get some dinner.

Sakusa Kiyoomi
Sakusa was a tough one to crack and every one knew that. Though he's good looking, an amazing athlete, great proportions, good grades, had his life together and yet he was single. Or at least, that was what everyone thought. Despite having a lot of women practically throwing themselves at him, he didn't fold for anyone until you came along. When you'd religiously sanitize his water bottle, made sure that his jacket was neatly kept away 'til he had to use it to warm himself after every game, how you payed close attention to his stuff to make sure it was kept clean and organized, his heart jumped at the thought that someone was able to match his little quirks. Small and unnoticeable to many but definitely not to him. Fortunately, komori offered to walk you home everyday after training as courtesy for your hard work for the team and sakusa just to happened to be with you two during those walks. Komori's house came up first so it would leave you with sakusa after, a good fifteen minutes alone together. Despite his shy demeanor, he took the chance and lo and behold, he was now your loving boyfriend.
you were now with the team as they were attending nationals. Sakusa surprisingly had a lot of acquaintances. You were with him and komori when you ran into atsumu miya. Apparently, they met during all japan youth. You weren't aware of atsumu's playful nature so when he jokingly suggested that he had someone in mind to introduce to sakusa, your heart dropped. Even the thought of another woman being that close to him made you jealous. What shocked you even more was when sakusa confirmed with atsumu that he indeed had no girlfriend at the moment, he didn't specifically say that he wasn't interested in the woman atsumu was describing. Komori, who was aware of your relationship with his cousin, looked at you with concern. "Stop bothering me miya, I have a game in twenty minutes." Sakusa flatly said.
"Okay then, I'll see you later omi omi!". The walk back to the team was quiet and with sakusa on edge before the game, he didn't notice how quiet you've gotten. But komori did so he tried his best to divert your attention by talking to you about random things and topics but you knew what he was doing. You gave him a soft smile and wished him a good luck before their game, doing the same for your boyfriend but that's when he noticed something was off when you didn't sneak a little kiss on his cheek before the game. Nevertheless, he went into the game and performed well, as he always did. On the way back to the accommodations, he took the seat beside yours on the bus. You were fast asleep the whole time. When you arrived at your destination, sakusa gently shook you awake along with his soft calls of your name. You woke up enveloped in his jacket and with your head on his shoulder. You shot up but then you realized no one else was on the bus. "Hi love, the team didn't want to wake you so they asked me to watch over you while you slept, do you want to head inside?". When you didn't respond, he chose to ask directly. "Are you upset with me? I know that conversation with miya made you upset. I'm sorry. Just know that I was never interested in anyone else but you"; "I knew that, kiyoomi, sorry, I really didn't have to be upset, just.."
"It's okay, if you were upset, you don't have to apologize. I'm sorry, next time, why don't we tell everyone about us so they won't have to bring other people up like what happened with miya?"
"I'd like that, kiyoomi"

Five Years Ago
As the Scout Regiment walked back through the gates of Shiganshina you were all greeted by many worried faces. You stuck as close to Erwin as you could, you knew that everyone was disappointed in the Scouts. Another failure in the books was how the citizens behind the wall would see this. And you knew that your little brother would be out there watching. He would smile on as the remaining Scouts made their way through the gates. He would be filled with happiness as he watched his favorite group of people return.
The mumbling started as soon as they saw your faces. You walked next to Erwin’s horse, trying to hide your shame as you tried to ignore the words and whispers that circled you.
Erwin had always been like a brother to you, he was your best friend, your shoulder to cry on. He had been the main reason why you had even joined the Scout Regiment.
You looked over to your right shoulder and saw his smiling face. This boy had no idea what was really happening outside those walls. Keeping his innocence was going to be your number one priority. You and Erwin both looked over at him and upon seeing his smile you couldn’t help but hang your heads.
So many of your comrades had lost their lives. So many people that you had spent so much time with were gone in a blink of an eye. You could never unsee the things that you had seen… and this was only your second time outside the walls. You were officially scared, to say the least.
As you listened to the chaos around you, you couldn’t help but let tears slide down your face. “They’ve sure taken a hit, haven’t they?” “The rest of them got eaten.” “That’s what happens when pride takes you outside the walls.”
None of that was why you did it. Pride had absolutely nothing to do with it. You wanted to make a better world for the people that we still around after the titans appeared. Emotions flooded you as you tried to ignore the whispers once again.
You felt a hand grasp your wrist and you looked up, a startled expression filling your features. You met the blue eyes of the one that had your affections. He put his hand on your face and wiped away the tears while looking back at the crowd around you. You hadn’t even noticed that you had let them slip.
He looked over and saw your brother as well, but his face was different this time. There was no smile spread across it, just worry.
An older woman came out of the crowd and stopped the whole regiment from walking. She was shouting, shouting out someone’s name. You braced yourself again. You knew exactly what was about to happen. “Moses! I beg your pardon, where is my son? He should be with you all. Oh please, tell me he made it.” The woman reached forward and grabbed the front of Commander Shadis’s cloak. You turned and buried yourself in your lover’s arms.  You couldn’t bear to watch the heartache again.
The Commander had no emotion on his face as he spoke to her. You had all seen too much, you were all exhausted. “I wish I had better news… Give it to her.”
Another man next to him handed her an object wrapped up in a blanket. Her cries broke your heart more than it was already breaking. “I’m sorry. That’s all there is left of him.”
The woman dropped to her knees and you pulled away from your boyfriend’s grip, running to her. If it had been you in the situation you had hope that someone else would do that same.
Erwin tried to grab the back of your clock as you run by, but he was unsuccessful.
You knelt down with her and wrapped her into your arms. You didn’t even know this woman, but you just couldn’t help yourself, and she held you without even thinking twice. You had to help as much as you could. She hugged what was left of her son to her and leaned against you.
The Commander knelt down and she spoke to him once again. “He did good, yes? He was brave? Tell me my son stood his ground until the bitter end.” You had to turn your face from you, you could feel the tears coming again. “Tell me that his death meant something! Tell me his sacrifice gave us a better chance!”
None of you knew what to say to her. You all sat there in shock. You could now feel your brother’s piercing eyes on you. This was one of the last things that you wanted him to see. The Commander stood back up and his emotions got the best of him. “He was brave… But his sacrifice meant nothing.”
The woman went stiff in your arms.
“As it is with all our losses, it’s all the same.” His screaming could probably have been heard all the way to Wall Sina. “The day was lost! We have nothing! Your son died because of me! I sent him to his death!” The Commander was losing himself, you had never seen him this emotional before. “I sent them all to their deaths and there’s nothing to show for it.” It was now that you wished you had covered your ears. “ALL OF IT AMOUNTS TO NOTHING!”
Another group of men from the scouts grabbed our Commander and pulled him away from the woman. And with that the Scouts began to walk again, clearing the way of the road.
As they reached you, Erwin jumped off his horse. “Y/n, let’s go. We have things to attend to. You had a family to get home to that’s worried.”
The woman looked over at you and with a weak voice that tore your heart in two. “Thank you for your kindness.”
* * * * * *
You walked through the doors of your parent’s home to find your mother doing dishes and your father sitting at the table, looking through his medical journals. As they heard the door open both of them stopped, worried about whether it would be you walking through the door, or your other half there to tell them the bad news.
When she saw it was you, your mother dropped the plate she was washing and ran to you, Carla Yeager had always been a huge family woman. “Oh Y/n, I’m so glad you’re okay.” Her hug was crushing, but you welcomed it, being outside the walls always reminded you of how much you loved your family. “There were rumors going around that a majority of the Scouts had been wiped out. I prayed that the two of you weren’t part of that.”
You gave her a weak smile. “I’m fine, mom.” You walked to your father and wrapped him in a hug. “Hey daddy,” He kissed the side of your head and sat back down, getting back to his work, the Grisha thing to do. You sat at the table and barely thirty seconds later after you sat down the door opened again.
Your little brother stood before you with a huge smile across his face. He ran to you and jumped into his arms. “Y/N!”
You smiled the same weak smile you had given your mother again. “Hey, Eren.”
A little girl stood behind him and walked slowly over to give you a hug as well. “I’m glad you’re okay, Y/n.”
“You guys aren’t getting rid of me that easily, Mikasa.” You ruffled her hair as she stepped back from your hug.
Eren jumped into the chair next to your father, the one that you had just occupied. Carla set bowls down in front of all of you and dinner commenced. Eren questioned your father about where he was headed next and the conversation went on as normal. That was until Mikasa spoke again, causing your mother to completely lose it. “So... Uhm, Eren’s thinking about joining the scouts.”
Everyone froze and Carla whipped herself around faster than she had when you had walked through the door. Eren’s face? He was pissed. “Way to keep a secret, you mouthpiece!”
Carla ran to him and scolded him. “You get that thought out of your head right now, young man.” You hadn’t seen your mother this irate since you had told her Erwin had gotten you into the Scout Regiment. “No son of mine is going to be fodder, do I make myself clear?” She looked over at you and her eyes welled with tears. “It’s bad enough that that Erwin character roped your sister into it.” Carla took the towel from her hand and tossed it to the ground. “If she had told us she was going to do it before she did, I would never have let her leave the house.”
“Stop yelling at me!” Eren had always had a temper, and he had no fear of hollering back at his parents.
Carla looked over at you again, you knew that she had never meant the words that she said, but it didn’t make them hurt any less. “This is your fault. If you had never joined that stupid regiment we wouldn’t have this issue.” Her eyes welled up even more as she reached to grab the towel she had thrown. “You never listen to me, just like your brother isn’t now.”
You opened your mouth to speak, but Grisha interrupted. “It’s a nightmare, Eren. The outside… you really have no idea.”
“Yea, I get it, okay?” Eren put his head in his hands and tugged at his hair. “But it’s gotta be better than this life. I’m not stupid. I know it’s ugly out there. I know there’s death around every corner, but I just can’t give up on it.” Eren looked up at your parents and the emotions behind his eyes made you proud in a sense, despite not agreeing with his actions. “Otherwise this nightmare is never gonna end.”
Grisha stood from the table, not wanting to argue about this anymore. “Excuse me, I’ll be late for the ferry.”
Your mother ran after him as he walked away. “Darling wait,” She reached for his arm and tried to stop him. “Scold the boy for heaven's sake.”
“Scold him? Dear, please, think this through. Mere words won’t hold back the boy's curiosity.” Grisha chuckled slightly but stopped as he watched her face. He turned to Eren and tried to reason with him. “Eren, behave while I’m gone and I'll let you in on what I’ve been doing in the cellar.” Grisha pulled at the key that was always hanging around his neck and showed you all. “Agreed?”
Eren was smiling again as he jumped from his chair. “Yes sir, you got it.” As Grisha made his exit you all followed him, watching him as he left. Eren hollered after him, still writhing with excitement. “Have a good trip!”
Once your father was out of earshot, Carla spoke to Eren again. “I meant what I said.”
Eren was confused. “What?”
“This whole idea is just irresponsible.”
“Huh? Irresponsible? So what? It’s more responsible to live in fear and hide behind some wall your whole pointless life?” And with that, Eren turned around and ran.
“Eren!”  Carla turned to you and Mikasa, grabbing each of your arms and forcing you to look at her. “The boy needs to be protected from himself. Promise me that whatever happens, I can count on the two of you to have his back.”
Mikasa nodded and you gave Carla a hopeful look. “Of course mom. I’ll always be there for him.” She let you both go and Mikasa ran for Eren.
“Can you please go after your brother for me?” She pulled you into a hug. “Tell him to come home, please.”
You nodded to her in an attempt to calm her. “I have to go back to my place anyway, so I’ll go find him.”
And with that, you left your parent’s house for what you had no idea would be the last time.
* * * * * *
As you stood in your apartment you gazed around. It felt like it had been so long since you had seen your stuff. He wasn’t home yet, probably still at the office with Erwin, that wasn’t an uncommon occurrence. As you reached to pick something up from the floor a huge bang that sounded like a shot from the cannons rang through the air. The force shook the entire apartment, sending you to the floor. You put your arms out to catch yourself as you hit the floor and nearly regretted it, twisting your wrist on the way down. You stood up and looked around you as chaos ensued.
You grabbed your ODM gear and ran from your apartment as fast as your legs could carry you. People were starting to build up in one area as they all stared into the distance. You turned around to look behind you and couldn’t believe what you were seeing. A hand was holding onto the wall that stood before you. Wall Maria is fifty meters high, there’s no way a titan could just be holding onto it. A second later it stood, the titan was taller than the wall and was staring straight at everyone below. You were frozen in fear.
With one fierce blow, the titan kicked. Debris flew everywhere as that spot of the wall crumbled before you. Houses were being smashed, people were screaming. Flashbacks from your mission ran through your head. Boulders were crushing people everywhere you turned. Eren flashed through your head and your legs were moving before you had even realized it.
You knew your brother, he would be headed back to the house and you lived farther than where he had probably gotten. You had to move fast. Titans were flooding the streets.
You ran through Shiganshina looking at everything around you, your heart pounding out of your chest. You hollered his name as you ran, not worried about the titans hearing you searching for him. There was already so much going on around them.
As you got closer to your parent’s house, you heard a scream. You knew who it was the second you heard it. Eren.
You turned the corner of the building to your left and stopped dead in your tracks. Eren and Mikasa were trying to lift some a wooden beam, that’s when you realized who was underneath it. Your mother screamed at the two of them. It had been their house that had fallen on her. When she saw you she focused on you. “Y/n, you have to get them out of here. Now!”
You couldn’t even think straight, so many things were running through your head. You ran to her and started to pull on the beam that the kids were pulling on, hoping that maybe your strength would be enough. Carla continued to scream at you. “You three need to run, even if you get me out I can’t walk. We’ll never get away from here.”
A titan was coming toward you, those footsteps were something you were fine-tuned to listen for now. Soon it would be at your group.
Eren shouted at her. “Y/n and I can carry you.”
“I’m not leaving you behind mom!” You pulled with all your might, this board had come loose.
Carla lost her temper, trying as hard as she could to save her children’s lives. “Will you two just shut up and listen to me for once in your lives. One thing I’m asking you to do, just one thing! Mikasa, make them, be strong.” She calmed a little, trying to get you to listen to her. “Do you want all four of us to die?”
You could hear ODM gear behind you and you hoped and prayed that it would be Erwin and your other half. Maybe the extra strength would be enough to lift it.
“Hannes!” You turned to look at him as your mother said his name. “Take the three of them and get them out of here.”
With Hannes there, you knew what you had to do. “Hannes, help Eren and Mikasa, get out of there. I’ll take care of this ugly bastard.” Your anger was starting to get the best of you. Through your tears, you could barely see, but you grabbed your blades from your canisters and got your ODM gear ready.
Hannes tried to talk you out of it. “Y/n, don’t be insane. You can’t take that thing down by yourself. It’s huge compared to the others.”
You ignored him and started to walk forward. Carla started to panic. “Y/n, don’t do this! Your brother and Mikasa need you!”
You had to focus. You saw Hannes talking to your mother more before following behind you. “I’m going with you. We’ll take this thing down together.”
You nodded to him and as you started to move forward he didn’t follow. Hannes froze. You hit the button for your grappling hooks and shot them toward the building next to the titan.
As you got into the air and almost to the titan you felt yourself get snatched. You closed your eyes and panicked, it had to be its fist, there was nothing else that could have grabbed you. Your entire body said not to open them again.
When you finally realized you weren’t in the first of a titan, you slowly opened your eyes. The sound of ODM gear had brought you back to the world. You were in the arms of none other than Levi Ackerman. Levi landed on a building a good distance away from the action and hollered to Hannes, holding you back from going after the titan again. “Take the kids and run!”
You could see Eren fighting and screaming as Hannes picked him and Mikasa up from the ground. Levi held you back and your mother began yelling again. “I love you three, stay alive.”
As you saw the titan bend down and start moving debris around you shouted at Levi, punching him in the chest. “The two of us can take him down! I know we can! Levi, we have to do something!” The titan picked up your mother and before you could even blink, he dropped her into his mouth.
You buried yourself into Levi’s arms and screamed as the sound of teeth on bones filled the area. “NOOO!”
And just like that, everything changed.

It's so frustrating (as a writer) how Albedo's whole character is just- full of opportunities and writing ideas?! It's like part fan-service and part freaking fanfiction prompts hnghng. Let me demonstrate—
Tumblr media
Love Potion #9
Inspired from Albedo's Story IV and V:
"Your final assignment: show me the truth and the meaning of this world."
"I hope I'm not overthinking things. When parents tell their children of 'the meaning of this world...' They must mean living a happy life, right?"
[Albedo in his pursuit of answers to finish the last task left by his master seeks out You, the most efficient and trusted member of the Investigation Team, in helping him understand the meaning of Life and Happiness among those of Soil.]
As a master in identifying patterns and logic, he only finds it suitable to ask for your mind and companionship in this strange chapter of his 'research.'
"When you speak of being in love, what symptoms does a person feel during that emotion?" Those teal eyes stare with a burning curiosity, as your nervous glimmering ones force itself away —
"Like, heart palpitations, stomach pain, shortness of breath, and uhm light-headedness and dizziness. To name a few."
"That sounds like symptoms of a disease... or even loathing-"
"No!"
Tumblr media
Impressions on the Snow
Excerpts from Albedo's Story III, IV, V and Voiceline:
When It Snows... Master...
"His master was not his birth mother, but Albedo has no doubt that his life stems from her nonetheless."
"Albedo has no memory of any blood relations. From birth, he was already adventuring deep within domains with his master."
"Albedo once led a simple and contented existence. It was a life free of considerations, but dull in its monotony. His purpose centered on accompanying his teacher, executing her orders, and meeting her expectations."
Many question the Chief Alchemist's lifestyle and routine of spending days away from public eye and human interaction. But lately it has become more worrisome when Albedo suddenly felt a calling in Dragonspine where he spends days alone in the freezing blizzard. How can such a man find solace in this icy wasteland with the ever looming fear of a frozen death?
You'd think he'd spend every second of his time there dedicated to another one of his research, but contrary to that, the Kreideprinz often finds himself dazed and silent, unmoving and reminiscing.
In snowflakes and shivers, he finds solace to a life abandoned and forgotten.
"I may be called Kreideprinz, but my knowledge and title came from another far better than mine. A true genuis. Traveller, do you wish to hear the tale of my master, (Y/N) Rhinedottir?"
Tumblr media
Citrinitas - Before the End
Albedo's appearance within the city of freedom was that of a bursting bubble, sudden and quick, fleeting. And he knows when his duties and research are over, like a bubble, he too shall make his leave.
He established alchemy and named it after Mondstadt, so it is only fair and wise of him to make sure that the arts will not fall and disappear with him. And thus he looks upon his most trusted assistants and students, with the glaring absence of Timaeus.
"The Trials of the next Chief Alchemist shall commence between you two, Sucrose and (Y/N). For upon my inevitable retirement in the future, one of you shall precede me and carry on as the new master."
In other words: A series about the trials of being the next master alchemist; a soft rivalry between the two simps (Sucrose and You) w/o Timaeus because he doesn't have what it takes. Sad.
Hints of a love triangle, angst, friendly rivalry, alchemical bullshit and spoilers. We don't hurt Sucrose here, Sucrose is good girl.
Tumblr media
I'm gonna cry, I wrote and formatted and made all these dividers instead of working on my character and my school requirements huhu, not a good premonition for the new year.
Anyways this feels like a self-indulgent post and there are no promises if I'd even finish them all. I do need help on what to start on first.
tl;dr Albedo precious, precious boyo. And we simp for him. Maybe too much.

lunar artist!yeojin; chapter four~
Tumblr media
warnings; space ships, flying in space, space battles, explosions, grenades, fighting, armies, exhaustion, bad dialogue sorry bout that, unconsciousness, prison
genre; sci-fi, strangers to friends to lovers, fluff, angst
pairing; im yeojin x gender neutral!reader
word count; 2.1k
summary; your small crater town on the moon was rarely visited. one day, artist!yeojin travels all the way from mars to paint the serene, wistful scenery of your planet.
-----------------------------------------------------------
you’re sweating at this point. hot, itchy perspiration runs down your neck, your arms, all over your body. you don’t care. all that matters now is escape.
the gates to bexyim are close now. close enough that you can see the people crowding around inside them.
well, it’s not exactly a crowd. more like a small, distanced flock of humans scurrying around. they look terrified, like someone is about to snatch them up and take them away.
and, you notice, somebody just might.
as you slow your pace to a walk, you catch sight of armored beings, covered in the silver regalia you know belongs to the lunar military.
they patrol through the city, daring people to challenge them.
you recall stories of the drafts that occurred when you were still a kid. your dad was fortunately not called, and your family was safe.
but others weren’t.
some poor mothers lost their whole family to the drafts, and some not only to those, but to the war.
and you’re seeing the aftermath of that right now.
you emerge through the city gates, being scanned by the flashing lasers inside them, and see the tired faces of the people around you.
and you know the look of exhaustion isn’t just the natural downwards shape of lunar faces.
these people have lost their livelihood, the most important part of lunar life- their family.
all because of that dreadful, burning planet called mars.
you know the moon didn’t start this war.
the resource of your world are spread thin to begin with, there’s no way your government could have made a decision that bad.
i mean, they are politicians, and don’t make the best choices, but still, they would have known better than this.
you keep walking, breathing hard and loudly. you feel self conscious from all the stares being trained on your back, and look down, watching your feet.
a voice calls out to you, “y/n!”
you glance up, seeing your boss.
“oh, hello,” you respond softly.
“we’ve lost contact with you since the war started. where have you been?”
“i’ve actually been at my house. i had no idea there was a war going on!” you giggle, drifting into the shallow, polite persona you use with your company.
“well, we need you to be on the job. now. we’ve been losing journalists by the second, either to the drafts, deaths in the family, or just pure fear. we know you can handle the job.”
“the job?” you question.
“yes, we need someone to be at the frontlines, giving reports on how the battle is going.”
“aren’t there multiple war areas?” you don’t like the sound of this. i mean, go up to the frontlines? and report? who do they think you are?
“yes, you’ll be moving around throughout them. the first station is one to the south of mars, closest to where all the big battles are. we seem to be winning over there, only a ragtag group of soldiers is there, they’re all runaways or have some other thing going on. none of them are as disciplined as the rest of the army. their leader is though. she’s fierce. watch out for her.”
“okay,” you say, “where, where do i go?”
“come with me,” your boss says, leading you towards another street, “do you have anything with you?”
you walk fast to keep up with her pace, “i don’t actually! it was sort of a spontaneous trip here, i was trying to figure out what was going on,” you say, letting out another chuckle.
“there’ll be some supplies on the ship, i’m sure,” your employer easily responds.
out of the corner appears a launchpad. a small ship sits atop it. hopefully it’s just a transport, you don’t fee confident prancing up to the war in such a tiny vessel.
you don’t feel confident going anywhere near the frontlines to begin with, but duty calls.
laylia, your boss, doesn’t even stop, continuing onto the ship. you follow, helpless. everything is moving so fast.
“well, guess this is where we part. have fun y/n,” she calls, already leaving.
“yeah, uh, see you!” your voice barely makes it out, the door is already closing and air whistles around you, carrying you into the air.
you clutch the side of the ship, not used to the movement.
after you make it into the atmosphere and turn on the hyperdrive, you make you way to a seat and plonk down.
exhaustion overtakes you, and despite your nerves, you pass out on the chair.
-----------------------------------------------------------
blaring red sirens awake you a few hours later and you sit up way too fast, making your eyes have a seizure and fill up with colored parallelograms.
falling up into a standing positions, head still spinning, you look around.
you notice something in the side window. another ship. a marsian one.
gasping, you urgently glance around, searching for someone who knows what they’re doing and can hopefully help you.
everything begins to set in.
you could die. right now. right this very second. and what have you done with the time you’ve had?
someone grabs you by the shoulder and you’re jolted out of your thoughts.
“hey, you’re the journalist, right?” they ask you.
“yeah,” your voice shakes.
“come with me, we have to go,” the solider says, and seeing your nervous expression adds, “you won’t get hurt, i promise, we’ll protect you. i’ll protect you.”
the soldier continues to stare into your eyes.
who the heck is this kid? you think. are they really trying to flirt in the middle of a life-threatening situation? you shake your head, stepping forward and pushing them to move along.
the two of you run towards the doorway, which has somehow docked at an enemy ship.
an enemy ship?
hold the shuckadoddle frickety frack up. you can’t do this anymore. regretting everything, you tell yourself to stop, anxiety taking over your mind.
your legs don’t listen to your thoughts, and you keep running.
escaping and heading into danger because of impulsive decisions seems to be a constant theme in your life. hmm.
explosions fill your ears. you can’t see them, only the grey walls boxing you in the quiet metal ground disappearing under your feet.
your eyes are trained on the floor beneath you, but you somehow take in everything around you. peripheral vision seems to work double-time in emergencies.
soldiers rush forward in the other corridors, going the same direction as you.
they’re just blurs, silver numbers moving as a group, dispensable and unimportant.
the person leading you hasn’t given you a weapon. you’re defenseless. but hey, when have you ever not been? you have no idea how to use a gun.
adrenaline takes over. you’re the most confident you’ve ever been since that one time when you were little and your mom bought you high heels and you got to walk around the house like a venusian model.
the memory makes you sad. you haven’t seen your mother in years. you might not ever see her again.
regret flashes through your mind.
you push it away.
the explosions are near. you hear them before you see them.
thundering, blasting booms echo through your eardrums, becoming the only thing you can hear.
next, you see them.
smoke wafts toward you, mixed with sparks.
then before you can register it, a crash erupts and orange fire comes streaking towards you.
the soldier pulls you down behind a doorway, and the fire goes past.
they move as soon as the fire goes past.
“come on, we have to hurry!”
you can barely hear them over your own fear. it’s the only thing going through your mind.
you chase after the soldier, probably running to your doom but who cares at this point. you have nowhere else to go.
you reach the hanger, where the battle is commencing. sliding to a stop behind a crate, you catch your breath, heaving, almost spitting all over the solider.
they seem to be in a better state than you. stupid trained military.
“turn on your comm,” the soldier speaks to you.
“how?”
they reach over and push a button.
“talk. report something.”
“uhm. ok,” oh dear how are you going to do this.
still breathing hard, you pant into the microphone, “we’re in the main hanger of ship 456,” you read off the crate you’re slouched against, “lunar reinforcements are coming in by the second. we seem to be in the lead, our troops are hiding behind crates and have shelter. ships are blowing up from explosions thrown at the other side,” you pause, catching your breath, you’re speed-talking into the microphone.
remembering what your boss said, you say, “the general doesn’t seem to be here. just a rag-tag army of shorties. let’s go luna!”
turning off the comm, you belch a sigh.
then your world turns upside down. a sound like a sonic boom pushes at your eardrums. your vision goes green and purple for a second. you black out.
-----------------------------------------------------------
yeojin almost falls again. laughing you shriek at her, “yeojin! this is the fortieth time! get yourself together!” the last part comes out in a purposefully strangled voice, one you use whenever you’re yelling but don’t want to yell because you’re not mad, just overly excited.
she trips over her ice skates, cackling over your words. you barely catch her this time, arms weak with happiness.
you pull her up, holding her close to you. she’s touching your arms, holding onto them, leaning in closer, looking as happy as can be.
but something isn’t right.
you feel nervous.
something’s coming.
yeojin’s face falls, and your sight shifts.
you’re dreaming. yeojin isn’t here.
eyes opening, you shudder and flinch with the harsh reality of waking up. you’re not safe. you have to run.
making a start, trying to get away from a place you haven’t even looked at, you’re caught by restraints.
finally registering your location, you realize where you are.
in a prison cell.
panicking harder now, you push against the cuffs clasped around your wrists and ankles.
you’re breathing hard, but if feels like you’ve been holding your breath, submerged under water.
you’re drowning.
thoughts fill your mind. you can’t look at them, pushing them away, the only emotion in your system is fear. it’s propelling you. the only thing keeping you going. you need it.
sharp exhales fill the room. you don’t realize it’s you.
a deep voice, that special kind of scary government-esque voice that means serious trouble, breaks through, “hey!”
cutting through your mind like a knife, your mind shifts to the right side of the room where the voice is coming from, hyperfocusing on all the details.
white light comes from the ceiling. it reflects off of the metal walls, the same color as the ones you ran through before. it feels like it’s been days since then. maybe it has.
the person who possesses the voice moves toward you, quickly and with purpose. their shoes clack across the black floor.
they move past the other holding devices, ones that look exactly like the one you’re in- upright but titled at an angle, putting the prisoner in an awkward vulnerable position, cuffs around the ends, a cold feel of despair and fear crawling on them like slime.
other soldiers flood through the door. two of them. they follow the first one.
the three officials stand in front of you. silent.
then they start whispering to each other. you don’t say anything. can’t actually, your voice box has gone unresponsive and clogged.
turning to you, the one seemingly in charge, barks, “what do you know about ha sooyoung?”
you freeze for a moment. you have no idea who that name belongs to.
“i- i don’t know,” you breath out.
“what?” the man steps closer to you, getting in your face.
“i don’t know!” you say louder this time, voice hitch.
“really? why are you here then?” the man doesn’t move away. you can smell his breath. peppermints, smoke, and death.
“i’m a reporter,” you say, clearer this time. hopefully there isn’t any harm in saying that. ratting out your country is the last thing you want to do.
“well then you must know all about her,” the officer stresses the all, moving closer.
you’re shaking at this point.
“i promise i don’t. i haven’t been to any major city in years. i- i don’t know anything. nothing.”
“i don’t believe you. no way you’re telling the truth. you sound too suspicious. not even knowing about ha sooyoung? your own general? impossible. kerek, get out the electrifier.”
“wait! no! please!” you scream without even registering your words. electrifier? this has to be a dream. you’re not going to be tortured. no. this can’t be happening. you can’t do this.
kerek, one of the man’s accomplices, moves to the edge of the room, retrieving the device.
then he stops. a noise comes from the right side of the room where the door is.
someone opened it. they’re now standing in the doorway.
they move forward into the light, illuminating their small figure.
you can’t believe your eyes.
it’s yeojin.

Runway (NCT Lucas)
Genre: Angst with a tinge of fluff, model!Lucas X photographer!reader
Word count:  approx. 7k
Warning(s): Swearing
Tumblr media
(2013)
Photography has always been your passion, and without a doubt, you took it as a major when you had the chance. As the second year approached, you doubted whether the subject was really your passion or just a fleeting interest at that point in time.
It wasn't that you hate photography per se. You did enjoy taking shots on inanimate objects but when it comes to human models, you have to deal with the unnecessary troubles on top of having them to meet your expectations. Some models failed terribly in recreating your impression, while very few people were able to portray the picture that you have in mind. Fortunately, there was one particular guy who exceeds your expectation, to the point where he could improvise on the spot and allow you to be open to new perspectives.
Yukhei was the guy you go to when your projects involved human beings. Johnny introduced him to you when you were unable to find a suitable model and you only had a week left before you had to submit your final project in the first year. Since then, you never look elsewhere. You were glad that Yukhei accepted your requests in a heartbeat, in which Johnny would often whine about how you practically stole his life saviour.
"You can't do this to me!" He cried during lunch. "And you, Yukhei! How could you accept her offer and not mine?"
"Your ideas are too hard for me to work with, and she usually treats me afterwards," the younger man reasoned before he nonchalantly chewed on his food. Once in a while, his eyes widened before he hummed in appreciation as he savoured his meal. On the other hand, Johnny whipped his head to face you before his eyes narrowed.
"I can't believe you bribed him! I shouldn't have introduced him in the first place if I knew you would do such a thing!" Pouting like a baby, he crossed his arms as he looked away from you. In all honesty, you knew Johnny wasn't being serious and that alone made you chuckle.
"Come on, Johnny! I know you just want to have female models for your work. Don't worry, I'll contact my friends if any of them are interested." Of course, the said man was all smiles again as he faced you again.
"Now that's what I want to hear!" He then glanced at his watch. "Okay, I need to go now. Call me when you already found one!"
Johnny jogged away from the area as he waved to you and Yukhei. It was only half past twelve when you and Yukhei had finished eating, leaving you with a few hours to spare before your next class while Yukhei could just head his way home. Planning to use your time productively, you proposed to work on your project immediately. As expected, Yukhei agreed before you led the way to the ideal location for the photoshoot.
"Wait, no need for a change of clothes?" Yukhei inquired, in which you replied by shaking your head as you elaborated on the ideas you wished he could depict later on the set. As usual, he pitched in some ideas too and honestly speaking, you wouldn't ask for a better model.
"Well, who needs a change of clothes when the model himself is enough to get you an A." You had grown accustomed to his overflowing confidence on himself, yet you couldn't help yourself as you chuckled in delight before getting serious with work.
It was a typical day spent with Yukhei. However, it was unfortunate that you started to miss the time spent with him when both of you went separate ways after graduation and all contacts were ceased ever since.
~~~
(Present day)
You were pretty much established in the photography scene now. Back then, you couldn't imagine yourself being invited to major events often for your service, but somehow you made it. However, you couldn't deny that you felt guilty for not checking up on your friends when you were piled with your seemingly endless work. Calls from clients were made every now and then, impromptu photoshoots happened once in a while to cover for your sick colleagues. You couldn't recall the last time you contacted your friends. It wasn't until Johnny attended the same event as you when you were reminded about the lack of contact you made with your friends.
"Oh my god! Johnny, is that really you?" You couldn't hide your elation upon spotting Johnny at the entrance a few hours before the event started.
"Oh lord, you! How long has it been since you last called me?" His eyebrows were furrowed as he crossed his arms over his chest, huffing with mock anger while he waited for your reply.
"Uhm, I might have lost your number when I changed my contact number." You sheepishly grinned, leaving the tall man baffled.
"Are you serious?! Why don't you just ask me? Dude, social media exists for a reason." Looking deadpanned, he was unimpressed with your excuse.
"I'm sorry, I just got caught up with work." Johnny was about to argue when a group of photographers made their way to the venue, bringing both of you back to reality. He clicked his tongue in annoyance when he realised that there was barely any time left before the event would commence.
"Give me your phone." His sudden demand caused you to hand him the device almost instantaneously, and it wasn't until your phone left your grasp did you realise what was bound to happen.
"Johnny, you can just write your number on paper and just pass it to me you know." Your fingers reached for your phone restlessly but he retracted his hand before you could even touch it.
"Shush." He attempted to unlock your phone, only to be shooting you an unamused look when you had been using the same PIN since your college days. He then dialled his number on your phone before he passed it back to you. "There. All done."
Your lips quirked awkwardly as you tried to show a genuine smile. It wasn't that you were unhappy about it. You really did want to keep his number just in case, but the fact he got your number would mean that he would be pestering you on your off days. And the thought alone bothered you. Those days were meant for you to laze around in your home, and there was no way you would let him drag you out of your apartment when you just need time to yourself before you were ready to face the hectic week ahead.
However, you knew that was just an excuse when Johnny had a wide circle of friends to hang out with. In reality, you were just afraid that Johnny would readily give your phone number to Yukhei, and you weren't prepared for it. You couldn't deny that you cut Yukhei off rather abruptly, but it was for the best. It was unfair for him, considering how he had been calling you non-stop ever since you left the town to venture for your career opportunities without bidding farewell to your friends, and it came to the point where you had resorted to changing your mobile number just so he wouldn't hinder with your quest to find your dream job. You would only be preparing a recipe for disaster if you were to allow your affections for him to grow.
The seats were already occupied with notable public figures in the fashion industry, but you couldn't care less. You only hoped that you could get this done and over with so that you could return to your comfortable cocoon with a bowl of popcorn in your hand while you binge-watched the latest drama series you had been anticipating for days. You would have done so if your dear colleague wouldn't drop the news at the very last minute, and somehow, she knew that you wouldn't reject the job which was why you ended up in this place unwillingly.
A round of applause erupted as the models made an appearance in the runway with the latest fall collection. It was your cue to take the shots as the models strutted their way to the front of the platform before walking confidently to the backstage. Johnny wasn't far off from your position as he too was immersed in capturing the best pictures he could take in the fashion show.
Monotonously clicking on the shutter, you were growing bored as the digital clock at the back of the room displayed 21:00. It has been already an hour since you were stuck in this event and you were very tempted to get out of this place before the boredom kills you. When he made an appearance in the runway, however, your temptation to flee might just come to reality if it wasn't for you being trapped in the middle of a large group of cameramen in front of the platform. You couldn't tell if he saw you in the crowd when his piercing gaze was at the front, and not once did his eyes travelled down to see you in your crouch position with your camera as a perfect hiding spot for your face. Yet, your fingers were getting jittery at the thought of him spotting you and you were definitely not ready to meet him. Not just yet.
"Now let's welcome the fashion designer, Nakamoto Yuta, into the house together with our rising model, Lucas Wong, who'll be donning the highlight of this year's fall collection. Let's welcome them with a round of applause!" Yukhei made his way to the front of the platform again. This time around, he had a long beige coat on him together with a cream turtleneck and black khakis to complete the look, accentuating the theme of the fall collection ㅡ simplicity.
Yuta made his way next, with his immaculate white suit, as his suave gait didn't go unnoticed. Nonetheless, he still walked with a gummy smile on his face while he fixed his blazer. After he bowed slightly to the audience, he introduced his fashion line while resting his arm on Yukhei's shoulder, in which the latter relaxed a bit when Yuta lightly tapped on his bicep with Yuta's smile being the driving factor for Yukhei to loosen up. The non-verbal communication between the two men was enough for you to conclude that they must have been close.
You couldn't help getting distracted with your work when the man you had been avoiding thus far was suddenly appearing in front of you. Of course, your absent-minded self didn't notice Yukhei staring straight at you when your camera was lowered to your chin level. It was only when a photographer next to you accidentally knocked on you, causing you to falter from your crouch position and caught Yukhei’s intense gaze on you. Too stupefied to do anything afterwards, your body turned numb. You could only exhale the air which you had been keeping for a while when both Yuta and Yukhei returned backstage. As the guests rose from their seats, you immediately dashed to your car, not bothering to turn back when Johnny called you.
You were glad that your car was passing the electronic gantry when Yukhei was turning left and right at the exit, looking slightly dishevelled. You were just not ready to face him. At least not now.
(2014)
The days leading to graduation were hectic. You weren't given the time to be anxious about your graduation when you were in the midst of helping your parents to pack their belongings. On top of that, you were also contemplating the job offer you received recently and as much as it sounded enticing, you had to think things through before accepting it wholeheartedly. It was unfortunate that you didn't have the time to sit down and ponder over the offer when there were so many things to clear at the moment.
It was already two days before graduation when the movers had arrived in your doorsteps to help in transporting some of your parents' treasured furniture. You did your part by carrying the boxes containing their clothes to the truck.
"Honey, are you sure you don't want to come with us?" Your mom questioned again when all the necessary items were on the way to your parents' new residence.
"It's okay. I still need to attend the graduation ceremony and the university's not far from here anyway." The corners of her mouth were pulled to the side as she nodded, assuring you that you were always welcomed anytime. She didn't say much afterwards as she headed to the car where her husband was waiting before she slammed the door shut when she got inside. Nonetheless, she did wave at you before the car sped off.
As the red Mini Cooper diminished from your view, you couldn't help but wonder if your parents were still disappointed with you choosing photography as your major when they had dearly hoped you would choose business so that you, being the only child in the family, could inherit their firm one day. They didn't resist much when you first announced it, but they did give you a cold shoulder once in a while when you talked about your university life. You wouldn't be surprised that they won't make it for the graduation ceremony, considering how your workaholic parents had opted to buy a house closer to their office which made them even more absorbed in their occupation since they could go to work anytime they pleased.
The vibration from your jeans broke your reverie, in which you quickly fished the device out from the pocket as you went back inside when the afternoon rays came off rather strongly, making you uncomfortable in your drenched white tee.
"I'm surprised that you decided to accept my video call this time round. What happened to your 'strictly calls only'?" One of his eyebrows were raised as his head was tilted, pleasantly surprised by your change.
"I don't want my phone to be dirtied by my sweaty ears." Grabbing the remote control to set the highest setting for your ceiling fan, you soon plopped on the couch, not bothering to change your clothes since there were no adults to nag at you for ruining the leather seats.
"I see. You look good when you're wet anyway." You rolled your eyes at the innuendo, especially when Yukhei repeatedly raised his eyebrows in a coy manner before you spoke. "Anyway, why are you calling me?"
Looking away for a moment, he bit his lower lip as he struggled to voice his main agenda for the call. You were about to open your mouth to ask him again when he beat you to it.
"I don't want to force you or anything, but do you want to go out with me tomorrow night? Just you and me." The invitation did come as a surprise for you when your pupils dilated.
"Aren't you going to the party tomorrow?" You knew a graduands' party was going to take place on the day before the ceremony, and Yukhei wasn't one to shy away from such social gatherings. When there's free food, there's Yukhei. That was one thing for sure.
"Nah, I'm too old for parties anyway." At this moment, you couldn't hide your bewilderment when your eyes were wide opened before they were narrowed to slits as you eyed him suspiciously. Yukhei, the Wong Yukhei, rejecting parties? That was something you couldn't fathom for a while.
"Oh, come on! It's been a while since we last hang out anyway! Please? I'll definitely treat you tomorrow! You don't have to bring even a single cent!" A smirk was formed on your face when you decided to play with him.
"Oh really? Will you buy for me a building then?"
"Definitely! I'll even bribe NASA if you want to travel to the moon!" Of course, Yukhei went along with it before waves of laughter soon erupted. You rarely cracked jokes among your friends but years of friendship with the man on the screen made it possible for you to be comfortable to engage in playful banters with him.
Eventually, you yielded to his request, in which Yukhei reacted by pumping his fist to the air while exclaiming a loud 'yes!' which echoed around his room. The wrinkles formed near his eyes were as clear as day while his wide smile spurred you to do the same. It wasn't long before he had to cut the conversation short, claiming that he had an errand to run.
Tomorrow came faster than you expected. There was a sense of giddiness coursing through your body as you waited for the sun to set. Yukhei had called you earlier this morning that he would be picking you up, and you were given no time to decline the offer when he immediately hung up since he was merely informing you. You could only chuckle to yourself as you got dressed an hour before he arrived.
Despite being in the middle of finding your pair of jeans, you didn't hesitate to pick up the call when the ringtone had resonated around your bedroom for quite some time.
"Hey Yukhei, could you give me a sec-"
"Sorry, but we're calling from Pixel Studios." You immediately retracted your hand to see the caller, only to curse silently before you placed your phone back to your ear.
"We just want to confirm whether you'll be taking up the job. We really admire your work and it'll be appreciated if you could decide as soon as possible so that we can contact other potential candidates if you plan to reject the offer." Your heart felt heavy as those words were uttered to you. You knew you shouldn't be reluctant to accept the offer straight away, but something was stopping you. And the fact that you didn't know what that 'something' could be added on to your frustration.
"Is it okay if I reply tomorrow?" A sigh could be heard from the end of the call before he finally agreed. You didn't forget to thank the person before he ended the call. Somehow, the excitement which bubbled within you had dissipated. You didn't manage to dwell on the topic further when you heard the sound of the car honking thrice. You quickly rummaged your closet before your eyes finally landed on the pair of jeans you were looking for. There was no time to waste as you instantly put it on, and at the same time, praising yourself for doing your makeup earlier on.
"Sorry, I'm late!" You barely breathed once you jogged your way to stand in front of him, who all this while had been leaning on his Hyundai. He waved his hand dismissively, convincing you that it was fine after all even though he didn't miss the opportunity to tease you about how you reject his ride earlier this morning.
"Shall we go now, my lady?" Opening the door to the passenger seat, he ushered you in like a fine gentleman. While the act could cause women to have their hearts racing, you could only laugh in embarrassment when the action was uncalled for, especially when both of you were wearing casual outfits.
Yukhei might have called this a hangout, but you felt that this was a date instead. How could you not think that way when he had been acting so nice to you? And with the way he held you close almost all the time, you wouldn't be surprised if outsiders were to mistake both of you as a couple. You didn't mind though, but it did raise questions in your head as to what Yukhei was hiding.
His hand felt clammy whenever you interlocked your fingers with his, and you did spot his long legs growing restless under the table when you had dinner with him at the restaurant situated by the river. Well, it could be due to the night breeze but you highly doubted that. Especially when his eyes darted sideways once in a while ㅡ a telltale sign that he was obviously nervous over something.
After the palatable meal, Yukhei suggested taking a walk by the river. You agreed nevertheless, even though you couldn't shake off the nagging feeling that kept reminding you that he was trying to buy time to alleviate his anxiety. As such, both of you didn't walk far before you spun around and stopped in front of him. His chest would have been knocking on your face if it wasn't for his quick reflexes due to your sudden movement. He might seem intimidating to you with his towering height, but when his eyes widened like a deer caught in headlights, he only resembled a very big baby.
"What's wrong?" Yukhei asked.
"Shouldn't I be asking you that question? You're not being yourself tonight. Is there something you're hiding from me?" You playfully pointed your index finger at him, in which he responded by rubbing his nape in an attempt to relieve his nerves.
"Is it that obvious?" The incandescent lamp above the two of you highlighted his crimson red cheeks, but that didn't stop him from reaching for your hands before holding it firmly. It would be a lie to say that your heart didn't palpitate wildly as you were mildly worried about what was he planning to say.
"I like you." Your mouth went agape with incredulity at the declaration, but he didn't let you say anything as he quickly continued.
"I can't deny that I've been attracted to you since the day we first met. And it only seems to grow the more I spend time with you. It was hard for me to contain these feelings every time I'm with you. I don't expect an answer from you yet, but I hope our friendship doesn't change." After the confession, he couldn't bear to look at you any longer as his eyes were averted to the ground instead.
You were at a loss of words. Although you did wonder about it, you didn't expect that he would express his feelings up front. And you weren't prepared for it. Somehow, you felt bad for probing him when he seemed to be on his toes after professing his attraction towards you.
The ride to your home was uncomfortable, absolutely. No one initiated any conversation as the radio filled the silence instead. You tried to think of other things to distract yourself, only to remember about the company who had been waiting for your response. You cursed inwardly as you could feel your shoulders being weighed down further by the job offer, on top of Yukhei's confession earlier. Even as both of you exited the car, the awkward tension still lingered in the air.
"See you tomorrow in the ceremony." You could feel the cringe on your fingertips at how strained the conversation had become. Nonetheless, you still bade him farewell as you watched his car disappear into nothingness.
Taking a quick shower, you shuffled to your bed before your limbs were splayed across the soft mattress. Even when the clock struck two in the morning, you couldn't sleep. It was difficult trying to formulate a response for the company when Yukhei's confession still floated in your head. The job was what you could ever dream of, and now that he professed his feelings for you, you were hesitant to take up the job. Even though you could imagine yourself being his significant other, you were well aware that the opportunity which was being thrust upon you was hard to come by. Moreover, you weren't even committed to him yet so it should be easy to reject his feelings and focus on your career first, right?
Wrong! You screamed at your idiocy because you knew damn well that your feelings were in too deep as well. However, you also knew that you had to think with your head and not your heart if you didn't want your future to be bleak. Plus, how sure were you that your relationship with Yukhei was going to last?
By the time the sun had risen, you already made up your mind. You decided to keep your feelings dormant for now so that you can start your career with ease. Moreover, you didn't want to disappoint your parents any further by not working in a field you had been studying for years. There was no going back as you went to the bathroom, not bothering to take a quick nap in spite of the commencement of the ceremony being in the late afternoon.
You already texted your parents about the ceremony, and as unsurprisingly as ever, they replied with a typical excuse of why they won't be able to make it for the event. At this point, you didn't even know whether they were lying or not, but you couldn't care less anyway. However, you did inform them that you were planning to stay with them after the ceremony and your mother was more than happy to receive you after the ceremony, which was also in line with the end of office hours. Your father, on the other hand, was planning to rent the house the moment he heard about the news even though you were still unsure as to how long you would be occupying your parents' home. You had already packed your essentials in your duffle bag when Johnny texted you to come early, stating that there was going to be a photo-taking among the photography majors before the start of the graduation ceremony.
Boisterous cheers were heard even before you stepped in the school grounds. Despite the overwhelming crowd in your university, you could easily spot the long-legged man from afar before you brisk-walked your way towards him and landed a punch lightly on his bicep, earning a yelp from him.
"Seriously?" You guffawed at his mock hurt when his face was scrunched upon receiving the blow, causing you to slap the same bicep even harder which resulted in Johnny to actually cry in pain before he rubbed the spot soothingly. "You're mean!"
"Well, you're being dramatic Johnny." His pupils reached for the skies before he pulled you to the rest of the photography majors when one of them had called for a photo-taking. The gods must have loved you a lot when the same guy handed his phone to Yukhei who happened to be within the vicinity. Yukhei obliged, not noticing your presence just yet.
"Alright, I'm going to take one now." The sizeable cohort quickly scurried into their places, and you quickly rushed towards Johnny's side. Johnny, however, had other plans when he firmly grabbed your shoulders such that you were in front of him so that he can rest his head on top of yours. You were about to look up when the people around you started to disperse.
"Johnny!" You didn't hesitate to smack his chest hard, loud enough for Yukhei to wince as he approached the two of you.
"You wouldn't want to get on her bad side, Johnny," Yukhei mused, only to raise his arms up defensively when you glared at him.
"I swear, what did I do in my past life for me to deserve such idiots..." Your groans were left unheard when both men were exchanging high-fives in front of you. Being the shortest among the three, you could predict that both of them wouldn't even realise that you were gone even if you happen to flee hours ago.
"Ehem! I'm right here, you know." You made your presence known when Yukhei and Johnny showed no signs of stopping the conversation.
"Aww... are you upset that we're leaving you out?" Yukhei swung his arm before he pulled you closer. You were glad that he was being his goofy self because you wouldn't know how to act around him when the confession just happened yesterday.
"We should have dinner together later!" Johnny suggested, but you were quick to raise your index finger.
"Uhm, about that... I don't think I'll be joining you guys. I'll be with my parents tonight." You subconsciously scratched your head as you smiled sheepishly.
"Now who's the one leaving?" Yukhei hinted. You shot him an apologetic look, but you knew deep down this was all for the best. Now that you chose to stay with your parents, you were determined to give yourself space for you to focus on photography, and photography alone. You couldn't risk yourself losing the opportunity to develop your portfolio at the expense of your friends ㅡ more like your potential infatuation with Yukhei.
There was no going back.
(Present day)
"What is it, Johnny? I'm in the middle of work," you grumbled upon answering the call when the vibration in your pocket became too much to handle.
"Are you serious? It's lunch hour now! I was just about to call you out to eat together with me."
"I'll pass for now. I can eat later after I'm done with my job." You turned down his offer, but Johnny had been adamant to have you eating with him.
"You've been rejecting our lunch dates for too long! That's it, I'm buying lunch over so that we can eat together. It's Pixel Studios right?"
"Yeah," you confirmed absent-mindedly before you processed his words once again. "Wait, how do you know that's where I work?"
"I saw your pass during the event. Okay, see you later!" You didn't have the time to dissuade him from coming to your workplace when he immediately hung up. You could only click your tongue in annoyance before the director's voice was booming within the four walls.
"Come on guys! The models are entering the studio any minute!" At his command, your colleagues who were still in the midst of arranging the props soon quickened their pace. You could sense that it was going to be a rough day today, considering how his voice becoming hoarse as the clock ticked by. Thank goodness your camera crew had already set up the necessary equipment when your senior approached you.
"I need your help." Well, what's new. You thought.
"I need you to record the interview later after the photoshoot. I've been contacting Donghoon for the past hour and he's not picking up!" You knew Donghoon wasn’t going to make it, especially when his social media was flooded with photos of him downing shots at the club last night.
"Alright," you agreed reluctantly. "Are we interviewing all three models?"
"Oh no! It'll just be Lucas Wong. It won't take long, I can assure you." The mention of his name had you frozen on your feet. You knew he was coming for the photoshoot, and you actually contemplated whether or not you should report for work. Nevertheless, you still came, with hopes that you could escape once it was over. Bold of you to assume so when there was no way you could run away this time.
"Are you okay?" Your senior placed her hand on your shoulder when she noticed your body stiffened. You quickly reassured her that you were fine, although she was hardly convinced when your eyes were directed at the exit. Eventually, she left you alone when the director clapped his hands loudly to signal the crew to get in position.
Yukhei's powerful gait was hard to miss despite being at the back when the models walked in. You anticipated him to be all smug as he made his way to the set, but he proved you wrong as he greeted the staff with his wide smile. You swore you could see those heart-eyes forming on your female colleagues as they gushed about his mannerisms. Somehow, you were glad that he didn't let the fame get into him. Unlike the stoic face which he displayed back then during the fashion show, he was showcasing his teeth upon spotting you as his eyes momentarily disappeared when he smiled. It felt like your university days again where he would often model for you in your projects.
You weren't surprised when Yukhei followed your instructions well as you took the shots. He could grasp the idea that you wished to portray after explaining only once while the other two models required more directing from you. For once, you weren't anxious about Yukhei's presence as you immersed yourself fully in the job. Even when he came close to you to monitor the pictures, you could cast your worries aside as you interacted with him in a strictly professional way.
"Okay, it's a wrap!" You announced before everyone involved clapped their hands together as they praised each other for the good work while packing the pieces of equipment. For a moment, you relished in the feeling of finally being free from work as you stretched your arms. The relief was short-lived though when you saw your senior approaching Yukhei, the sight reminding of the extra task which you had to complete before you could treat yourself for a meal. Your thoughts flew to Johnny as you had yet to notice his presence. Quickly checking your phone, there was no incoming calls or texts from the young man. Well, there was nothing much you could do anyway. He would appear when he arrived later.
Carrying the camcorder in one hand and the tripod stand in another, you dragged yourself to where Yukhei and your senior were situated. However, it wasn't long before Yukhei came to the rescue by helping you carry the burdensome tripod stand. You couldn't even protest when he wordlessly took it away from you so you only pointed him where it was supposed to be and muttered a soft thank you before he returned to the seat beside your senior. Once you had finished setting up, you gave your senior a thumbs up ㅡ a cue for her to conduct the interview.
"I'm glad you could join today for our interview! I swear, it's hard to have your time these days!" Your senior started off as she set a comfortable atmosphere for the session, in which he waved his hand off while chuckling in delight. "As a start, why not you tell me about yourself?"
The words that came afterwards became a buzzing noise in your head as you watched Yukhei conversed candidly with her through the LCD screen. The sight painfully reminded you of the good times you had with him previously, and it would have stayed the same if you weren't a coward to run away and dealt your relationship with him. Till this day, you felt the guilt gnawing on your existence as you left him hanging. Now that he was right in front of you, you were afraid of the imminent confrontation ㅡ if he wished to talk about it, that is.
Your thoughts were disrupted when you heard a peal of high-pitched laughter coming from your senior, probably laughing over a funny incident which Yukhei shared with her. She was so smitten, and you couldn't blame her for falling for his charms though. You were once in her spot as well. Yet, you couldn't ignore the jealousy that was brewing within you when you witnessed Yukhei burst out laughing too. Come on, it's just an interview. You're not his girlfriend anyway.
"Wow, what a childhood you had." Your senior wiped away the stray tear due to the laughter before she continued. "Now, I'm sure fans are curious about your love life. Is there anyone who has managed to capture your heart recently?"
Despite your poised position from your seat, your hands kept wringing to ease the nerves. Her question shouldn't affect you as much if you didn't have feelings for him, and yet here you were secretly hoping that you have a chance with him. Yes, you were selfish. But how could you not when he had been invading your mind for the past years when you and Yukhei were apart?
"Uhm... how should I say this?" He paused, his finger touching on his cheek repeatedly as he considered his response. "I did confess to the girl that I like a few years back, and I'm still waiting for her response honestly."
"She's definitely lucky to have someone as loyal as you. Do you have something to say to her? You can face the camera if you like." Your senior ushered to the device and you swore your breath hitched when he looked at the camera as if he was staring directly at your soul instead. Nevertheless, you adjusted the camcorder in such a way where it would focus solely on him before he cleared his throat.
"Hey... it's been a while since we last spoke to each other. I probably scared you away with the confession, and I'm sorry about that. To be honest, I miss you so much. It definitely felt different when you left. There are so many things to talk about. Let's meet soon, shall we? My number's still the same." He decided to cut short the message before his emotions caught in his throat.
Despite avoiding eye contact, Yukhei noticed how you were hastily packing up once the interview had come to an end. You only turned your head when your senior gave you further instructions before she headed to the exit, leaving Yukhei and you alone in the spacious studio. He was quick to take the tripod stand once again, and you knew how stubborn Yukhei could be from the years of friendship, so you let him follow you to the back of the studio where most of the items were stored.
"Don't you miss me?"
"You can place it there." You deflected his question by pointing to where it was supposed to be. His eyebrow was slightly raised at your obvious attempt to avoid the discussion, yet he still followed your order in the end before he turned around to face you and had his hands resting on his hips.
"Don't you have anything to say to me?"
"Look, your job here is done. What am I suppose to say anyway?" You finally held eye contact with him after so long, but your critical tone set him off.
"Well, I don't know! Anything!" He lifted both of his hands in exasperation. "Oh, why not we start with why the fuck did you leave without saying goodbye? Heck, you're even uncontactable ever since!"
"Yukhei, please. Can we have this conversation next time? I still have my work to do." It was just the beginning, yet you felt your energy draining before he harshly grabbed your shoulders.
"When? The next thing I knew, you'll run off again. I'm not going to let it happen this time. Not under my watch." He spat before he inhaled deeply and ended it off with a heavy sigh. "Can't we just go back to being friends again? Is it too much to ask for?"
His eyes were full of emotions, whirling aimlessly within his pupils. Yet, all he could see was how hollow your eyes were all this time ㅡ a black hole void of emotions. The hands which held you captive soon returned to his side when Johnny's voice reverberated as he shouted for your name.
"Oh, am I interrupting something?" Johnny stopped his tracks at the doorway, feeling wary of his next movements.
"Nah. He's leaving now anyway." Yukhei was mildly taken aback by your sudden change in demeanour as you smiled sweetly at Johnny, but he didn't let his emotion show.
"Come join us as well. It's been a while since we all gather together," Johnny invited Yukhei as the former approached closer to the both of you.
"It's okay. I've to get back to work." With a wave, Yukhei turned down the offer nicely before he patted Johnny on the shoulder as he left the place, not forgetting to assure the older man that Yukhei would catch up with them next time.
It was only a few seconds after Yukhei took his leave when you followed suit, heading to the lounge room while Johnny trailed behind you with no words being exchanged upon sensing your sour mood.
Without a word, Johnny set up the lunch on the glossy white table while still keeping an eye on your expression. You remained impassive as you thanked for the meal before consuming your food silently. It was barely a few bites when Johnny couldn't take the deafening silence anymore.
"I overheard the conversation." You frowned at the revelation. You placed your chopsticks down and wiped your mouth with a napkin, ready to retort. However, Johnny didn't let you when his hand was shoved close to your mouth.
"Yukhei didn't deserve that, you know." Once again, you were ready to snap when he shushed you sharply, mildly irritated by your need to fight back.
"He talked about it. About how you left him, left us, without a word. You shouldn't give him a cold treatment when all this while he's been blaming himself for ruining the friendship between the two of you." If Johnny wanted you to feel guilty, he did a great job. You were unable to meet him in the eye as a sigh escaped from your lips.
"I was scared, Johnny. Scared of the commitments I have to bear if I were to accept both his feelings and the job offer back then. I'm trying to prevent ourselves from getting hurt any further."
"Well, you hurt him nonetheless." He cut in, earning a scowl from you before your features softened, knowing deep down that he was right.
"You can't just push him away just because you are scared. You should've discussed it to him. I'm sure you guys can work things out." You lost your appetite by the time the waterworks started, and you were thankful that Johnny was there with you as he consoled you with a warm embrace.
"I've fucked things up real bad, right?" You managed to utter in between your sobs.
"No, sweetheart. He's still waiting for you, you know. Just talk to him, alright? I don't want to see my friends hurt anymore."
You knew you couldn't evade from the inevitable. Yukhei needed this. You needed this. No point distancing yourself from him when you wanted him as much as he did.
There is no way you are running away this time.
       You, J-hope, and Jungkook walk back to the lounge where everyone else should be. You couldn’t help but smile. You’re starting to get to know the boys more and in a way, it’s very comforting. ‘For once in my life...Could I really be happy?’
       As you’re walking, you feel like someone is looking at you. You look to your left and J-hope is walking next to you with his eyes looking forward. You slow your walking a little bit and you see Jungkook trying to get a glimpse at you. Your eyes meet and this time he didn’t look away. His cheeks start to turn pink. Your lips move on your own, “Kookie…” Just then Jungkook turned bright red and he started to walk faster to the lounge. ‘Oh no! Why did I say that again!? Aghhh! Why do I gotta be this way…’
       You arrive with J-hope to the lounge and see that all the boys along with other patients are sitting quietly. You guys grab the next available seat.
       “What’s going on?” You ask the rest.
       “Looks like the big man himself wants to make an announcement,” says Rap Monster in a low growl.
       “Good afternoon everyone. As you all know, I am Dr. Seung Ho Choi, the founder of Be Free Behavioral. My goal is to further the science behind mental illnesses by *ahem* experimental means. In the next few weeks, we will be upping evaluations and eventually be splitting you all up into different groups, called controls. Then… That’s when the experimentation will begin,” he says with a creepy smile that makes you all cringe.
       The preppy nurse interjects, “Well isn’t that just exciting news!”
       “So, this is what you meant… You’re right. He can’t be trusted. But, what do we do?” you whisper to Rap Monster with concern.
       “That’s the issue…” before Rap Monster could continue, the nurse starts talking again.
       “Since the doctor will be commencing his evaluations immediately, we’re a bit short-staffed during what would have been our group sessions,” the nurse visibly frowns. “I know, it makes me sad too! So, we will be playing a movie: Inception. We also have popcorn for you guys as a treat! I will be returning later to check up on you guys!” She skips away.
       “Oh! I love this movie. The human mind is very interesting… The way we think, the way we feel, and even the way we dream. The ones where it’s a dream within a dream… And we’re not really even sure if our current state is reality or dream…” Rap Monster says as he starts to trail off.
        “Ah ha… Yeah. If anything I think I know how that feels better than anyone,” you mumble nervously.
        “Hm? What do you mean?” he says as he tilts his head.
        “Oh uh, never mind! Hey uhm, do you think we could talk somewhere? Some things are better talked about in private,” you say as you look around to make sure no one else is listening in.
        “Follow me.” You follow Rap Monster out the lounge and down the hall to his room. You notice something that you never noticed before. It looked like he was counting his steps and even was making sure he walks a certain way.
        Just then, Rap Monster reaches his room. He turns the knob, but turned it a certain number of times before he actually opened it. ‘I wonder if this is part of his condition?’
        “AHHHHH!!” Rap Monster immediately trips over himself and he stumbles into a massive bee line until he manages to grip onto the desk though his legs continue to wobble.
        “O-oh! Rap Monie, you okay?” you try to help him up.
        “Ah, I’m such a klutz. I just organized this room too… Please forgive me. I need to tidy up before I let you sit,” he scurries around the room picking up things he knocked over.
        “Please, let me help you!” you insisted.
        “No no, you’re my guest and I’m the host,” he says as he continues to clean. As you stand nearby watching, you see that he organizes things in a particular way. By the type of item, by color, by size, and everything in between. He even makes small tweaks to the positioning of the items. ‘He’s quite interesting.’
        “Y/N, please sit,” he motions you to sit at the edge of his bed while he takes a seat at the desk. He almost missed the chair and nearly fell again! ‘This boy…’
        “Ah, you need to be more careful!” you say with worried eyes.
        “Don’t worry about me, hehe, I’m just fine. Juice?” he pulls out two boxes of juice and offers you one.
        “W-what? How’d you sneak these in here?” you take the juice box and start drinking.
        “My little secret. You can’t be a leader and not have some tricks up your sleeve,” he tries to sip from the juice box all sly, but the straw missed his mouth about five times. You giggle.
        “I uh, I was wondering…” you stop because you don’t want to offend the leader by your question.
        “You were wondering what got me in here, don’t you?” he puts down his juice box.
        “Ah, y-yes, but if you don’t want to tell me, I understand...I just wanted to get to know you a little better is all,” you say while picking at the juice box.
        “Of course. Well, I’m sure you’ve noticed my uh, habits. The way I carry myself and how I do things. It’s… Different from others,” his face all of a sudden got more serious.
        “W-what? Noooo I -” he raises his hand to stop you.
        “Y/N, it’s okay. It’s hard not to notice. You see, I wasn’t always this way…”
        “You weren’t always clumsy?” you instantly cover your mouth. ‘Why do you have to be such a smart ass sometimes!?’
        “Hahaha! Good one, Y/N! No, no, I wasn’t always so… Particular about things. Being the leader means I need to take care of my group and the boys individually. That’s a big responsibility and sometimes I can’t handle the stress. Well, it caused me to develop habits that I can’t control. Thus, my obsessive compulsive disorder. The fact I’m super clumsy just makes it all the more worse,” he starts to rub the back of his head. “I uhm, I got so carried away with my OCD at one point that the boys found me in my room walking in circles and just spewing out random words, numbers, and nonsense… Having a complete mental breakdown was definitely not a good look as a leader.” Rap Monster sighs before he continues.
        “I know, every life’s a movie. We got different stars and stories, we got different nights and mornings, our scenarios ain’t just boring. All of the members, they have different dreams and aspirations. It is my job to help them get there. I care so much about them that, it drives me insane… Don’t get me wrong, I would die for each one of them. But you know, sometimes I really really hate myself. Heh, too be honest, quite often, I really hate myself. And do you know what I do? I just stand there with the familiar darkness,” Rap Monster starts to hit his head with a tight fist.
        You quickly get up to stop him and hold him close, “I’m so sorry… You carry such a big role on your shoulders. But, you need to remember how important you are to others. You’re important to me too, you know?” you bring his head towards your chest to rest on and you feel him start to relax.
        “It’s just that… I want the world for my boys. But, the world is just another name for despair. How am I supposed to give them everything when the world is so cruel? I just… I am all of my joy and anxiety. It repeats everyday, the love and hate directed to me. And everyone else knows where they’re supposed to be, but only I walk without purpose. I wish I could love myself. I wish I could love myself. I wish i could -”
        “Stop! Please, stop…” you hold him tight. “Do you really believe everyone finds their purpose in life? Many people die before ever finding what their purpose is, and that’s okay. But, you need to love yourself just as much as your boys love you. I see the way they look at you and respect you. I think without you… Things wouldn’t be the same. Maybe that’s your purpose. Being the rock for them, their cheerleader, their friend, their leader. All of those things,” you smile as you start to shed tears.
        “Y/N, I’m sorry to have made you cry. But, thank you… Your words were truly kind. I feel… I feel I understand now. Now is not the time to give up and feel weak. If anything, they need me more than ever.”
        Just then you hear the door creak open and you look to see who it is. ‘N-no… It’s Jungkook!’ He sees you holding Rap Monster still. You step back and try to explain, “w-wait! Jungkook!” it didn’t work. He immediately ran off. ‘Great… Now there’s definitely no chance for me’
        You fall to your knees in defeat and mumble to yourself, “ugh, why am I so stupid.”
        Rap Monster comes up behind you and puts a hand on your shoulder. “I bet you are also wondering how to approach our maknae, huh?”
        “Am I that obvious?” you hide your face.
        “Nahhhh… Maybe,” he sticks a tongue out at you. “Well, being the golden maknae that he is, he is pretty shy and individualistic. His motto is ‘living without passion is like being dead’. With that said, I’ll leave it up to you,” he starts to exit his room.
        “...Wait, hold up. That wasn’t any advice at all!” you start to run after him, but he turns around abruptly making you stop dead in your tracks.
        He pokes your forehead, “just be yourself. He is just as random, funny, and rebellious as you are. In fact I bet he would have loved your comment earlier about me being clumsy. He definitely would have laughed.”
        “Rebellious? What makes you think that I am?” you nudge him.
        “Don’t you also want to get out of here?” he nudges back.
        You both smile in mutual agreement. Both of you walk back to the lounge and sneak back into the seats you were previously in. Just in time too. The nurse walks back in to call out a name for an evaluation.
        “Park, Jimin. Please follow me,” she says in a much serious voice. It’s definitely not what you’re used to. Usually she’s a lot perkier.
        “Be strong, don’t let them get to you,” Rap Monster says before Jimin exits the lounge.
        You and the rest of the boys feared for Jimin. “So uh, that plan of yours…” you whisper to Rap Monster.
        He nods. “It starts now.”
This has no sugar in it.”
You stare at the girl in front of you in complete distaste, fighting back the urge to roll your eyes at her as she continues to complain about the lack of sugar in her coffee. You watch as she chews her gum in loud smacks, twirling her hair with her fingers and glancing down at the brewed coffee she had ordered.
“We have a station set for sugar and cream over there, Ma’am, you can help yourself to as much sugar as you can.” You point at the said station, lips pursing in a thin line as you watch her turn around to follow your gaze. She clicks her tongue dramatically, feigning ignorance before grabbing the cup of coffee and marching away. You scoff at her retreating figure, pushing down the urge to fling an empty bottle of water at her.
“Hey, welcome to Joes, what can I get-” Your memorized greeting dies down in your mouth, eyes locking with hazel orbs as his lips lift up in a smile while he waves at you.
“Hey, Y/n.”
You take an unconscious step back, the image of him from 3 days ago still burning in the back of your mind. Red eyes and razor sharp teeth flash in your head and you immediately grip the counter to steady yourself.
“Mark?” You stutter out, eyes glancing down at the kitchen knife just at arm’s reach.
“Yeah. Hey, you okay? You just paled out all of the sudden.” He stares at you with concern and you study his eyes, finding no trace of insanity that once laid in them the last time you had saw him.
“I’m fine.” You clear your throat, heart slamming against your chest in fright.
“Oh, uhm, think I can get a mochafrap?” He scratches the back of his head awkwardly and you couldn’t help but arch an eyebrow at him. He looked absolutely normal today. His eyes were their usual shade of brown, his voice sounding the same as it always had, and to top it all off, he looked completely sane when interacting with you.
“Coming up.” You nod, turning your back away from him to start mixing his order. But you keep your eyes on his reflection through the microwave doors, watching his every move as you continued to fear for your life. You monitor him as he scrolls down his phone absentmindedly, lips pursing in boredom as he lifts his head up to look at you.
“You left early at your birthday party.” He announces innocently and you suddenly still, hands tightening around the cup you were holding.
“Yeah. I got tired.” You say cautiously, not sure where he was going with this.
“I know what you mean; I spent the night just taking care of Jackson. By 10pm I couldn’t even keep up with everyone else anymore. I should have just left.” He sighs.
“10?” You turn to look at him, eyes widening “Mark, where were you by 11-12?”
“I was with JB and the others in Namjoon’s movie room. We were watching a rerun of Friends. Why?” He bobs his head to the side curiously.
Your knees shake at the new found discovery but you do your best to seem indifferent, not wanting to frighten the tall boy. You force a smile upon your face and fake a laugh “No reason, I just thought you would have gotten drunk or something.”
He scrunches his nose in distaste, shaking his head “My girlfriend would have killed me if I got drunk. I was sober as could be, sadly.”
You hand him his drink, lips still tightened into a forced smile as you take his payment.
“I’ll see you around, Y/n!” He waves at you before walking out of the coffee shop. You then let out the breath you hadn’t realized you had been holding, leaning against the granite counter for support as a flood of information runs through your mind.
So all this time, it wasn’t really Mark who had tried to hurt you that night. Mark was locked away in Namjoon’s house with his friends as witnesses; which could only mean that person with the glowing red eyes and sinister smile had been someone else.
So did that mean that Taehyung, was probably someone else too?
-
“Yoongi, what are you doing?” You sigh as you follow after your best friend with no choice. He ignores you, hands wrapped around your wrist as he continually pads you down the street. You bite back a groan, wanting nothing more than to head home and crash on your bed after the tough shift you had at work.
“We’re here!” He beams, eyes studying the worn out building in front of you with pride.
“Okay, by here, you mean this abandoned building? Have you finally decided to kill me, is that it? Cause I’ll kill you first.” You arch an eyebrow at him, hands pressing against your hips in impatience.
“I’ll get to killing you soon. For today, we’re heading to an underground club. The others are already in there now.” He smiles at you.
“To do what? Locations like these aren’t known to be the most safest of places, Yoongi.” You sigh, hands running through your hair in agitation at the word club. You were too worn out today to be around a large crowd, especially a crowd bent on getting drunk and grinding on each other.
“Oh come on, be a supportive best friend and let me have some fun. Apparently they have rap battles here; me and Namjoon wanna try it out” Yoongi begs, hands pressing together as he drops his usual act of indifference.
You can’t help but smile at him, adoring how your best friend could shift from being a heartless asshole to the sweetest thing alive. You motion for him to lead the way as you tie your hair up in a pony tail, preparing yourself to deal with the stress that came with clubs. He all but squeals at your approval, walking ahead of you but making sure you were close enough to reach. He leads you through a large metal door, knocking 4 times before its pulled open by a man in a large leather jacket. He glances at you both, hand stretched out in front of him before Yoongi hands him some bills. He steps to side, giving you the chance to squeeze into the heated darkness of the halls. Yoongi wraps his hands around yours, head angling back to look at you and ask if you were okay. You give him a tight smile though you could feel your heart rate increasing. A loud thrum of music caresses your ears and once you take another turn, you finally find yourself in the main room of the said underground club. Music drums loudly against the speakers as colored lights beam around the room, blurring your view of the mass of bodies gathered together, swaying to the beat of the music.
“There they are.” Yoongi calls out to you and you follow after him, heart relaxing when you see Hoseok waving ecstatically at you. Once at arm’s reach, he wraps his hands around you in a tight hug.
“You made it.” He beams, face lighting up and warming you.
“I was dragged here, so I had no choice.” You scrunch your nose and Yoongi simply sticks his tongue out at you, immediately downing the drink Namjoon had offered him.
“We’re just gonna try the rap battle and after that we can head off somewhere else, is that okay?” Namjoon asks you and give him a quick nod, eyes lifting up at the corners. Now that you were around your friends, you felt more at ease. You had spent the last 3 days in constant agitation, red eyes burning in the back of your mind as you tried to make sense of what you had seen that night. Being around your friends, hearing them laugh and talk finally eased your worries, giving you a sense of normality.
“Hey.” A voice whispers against your ears and you still in place when you feel his hand pressing against the lower portion of your back. You snap your head to the side, immediately greeted by Jungkook’s smile as he looks down at you.
The memory of him walking hand in hand with a girl suddenly flashes back into your mind, surprising you as you had not thought of him at all in the past three days. You had been so consumed by the thought of red eyes that you had forgotten the obstruction you had with Jungkook. Bitterness immediately seeps through your veins and you do your best contain your emotions, not wanting to give him the benefit knowing he still affected you.
“Hi.” You breathe out, eyes searching behind him, trying to find the girl he was with that day. “No girlfriend today?”
“No. And she isn’t my girlfriend, Y/n. We still haven’t talked about that night, have we?” He answers, eyes searching yours with sincerity. You tear away from his gaze, knowing damn well the power it had over you. As much as you could be civil with him, the bitterness was something hard to let go of.
“Well, whatever she is tell her I said hi.” You mutter, reaching for a random bottle of beer on the table before downing it of its contents.
“I don’t want to.” Jungkook shakes his head, taking the seat beside you as he watches you with a smile.
“Then don’t.” You shrug, turning away from him to look back at the dance floor. The crowd was parting and a few groups of people were standing in the middle, hoods over their heads as they swayed slowly to the beat, eyes turned to the stage where a host was announcing the commencement of the rap battle.
“It’s starting!” Namjoon yells, slapping Yoongi’s arms before they’re running away without even sparing you another look.
Hoseok chuckles at their retreating figures, leaning against his seat and turning to look at you “We’ll just watch them from here. It’s too crowded over there right now.”
“Good idea.” You agree but freeze in place when you feel a light finger brushing against your arms. You snap your head to the side, watching as Jungkook smiles down at your hand, fingers tracing the silver bracelet wrapped around your wrist. Your eyes widen in realization before your pulling your hand towards your chest protectively.
“You’re still wearing it?” He isn’t fazed by your reaction, lips curving up in a smile as he meets your eyes. You push back the feeling of familiarity that his smile offered, scared to feel anything at all when you knew things between you two were already too broken to fix.
“I forgot I still had it on.” You admit, taking your lower lip between your teeth in embarrassment. Jungkook’s eyes lower to your lips, his gaze suddenly darkening as he lifts his head up to lock eyes with you again.
“Don’t remove it.” He shrugs “I said it before, and I’ll still say it now, it looks good on you.”
You feel your heart tightening against your chest as you stare at him and try to decipher his words. What was he up to? Wasn’t he the one who wanted to break up? What is doing and why is he trying to mess with your head?
You’re distracted from your train of thought when a familiar growl vibrates against the speakers. You snap your head back, eyes widening with glee when you see Yoongi’s hand wrapped around the microphone as he starts his performance. You bob your head to the beat, proud to see everyone else in the room focused on Yoongi as he performed, words echoing around the room and bouncing off the walls with so much passion.
“He’s killing it.” Hoseok comments, hands tapping against his knee in awe. You give him a happy nod before your turning to look back at where your best friend stood, ready to let out a loud scream of his name as a cheer.
Before you could even open your mouth, a haze of white flashes against your eyes and you immediately press them shut, hissing in pain. You feel your head spinning in circles, the ground below your feet swirling in waves as you do your best to push the sick feeling away. Then as fast as the nausea had come, it leaves, leaving you dizzy and confused as you blink your eyes open. You’re greeted by a green light flashing from the club stage and blinding you for a few seconds. You shake your head lightly, thanking the heavens when your normal vision had returned. You lift your gaze to look back at Namjooon and Yoongi, yet before you could find your best friend against the mass of bodies, your eyes widen in shock when your gaze locks on a face you were sure you were never going to forget.
Taehyung was leaning against the wall across the room, hands digging inside the pockets of his acid washed jeans as he silently studies you. One of his friends mutters something beside him and he nods absentmindedly, lips curling up in a smile when he realizes that you had finally seen him. You push yourself off of your seat, hands balling into fists as you do your best to keep your eyes on him, scared that he might disappear. He was in a black v-neck today, topped with a blue bomber jacket that made him the most eye catching thing in the room. Why hadn’t you seen him earlier than this?
“Y/n, what’s wrong?” You hear Jungkook ask behind you but you ignore him as you start walking forward, pushing pass the crowd as you keep your gaze on Taehyung. He watches you the entire time, keeping track of your every move as you navigate through the mass of bodies cluttered around the large room. Just as you were about to reach Taehyung, you’re view of him is blocked when a large built man bumps into you, causing you to stumble back a few steps and lose your balance.
“Watch it, little girl.” He hisses at you. As much as you knew that the smartest thing to do in a situation like this was to apologize, the dim-witted part of your brain takes over and you curse that large man instead. You glance back at where Taehyung had once stood, eyes widening in horror when you discover him no longer in sight.
“Fuck!” You growl and lift your gaze up at the man who had bumped into you, blood boiling with irritation “Fuck you.”
“What did you just say?” He hisses at you, stepping forward threateningly and flexing his chest out to scare you. Yet for some, insane reason, you weren’t even scared. To be honest, you were borderline pissed and this man was getting in your way.
“I SAID FUCK-” A hand slaps over your mouth as you feel yourself being dragged backwards, landing against a firm chest as his hands tightens over you.
“Sorry, my friend’s a little drunk. I’ll take her out of your hands now.” You freeze in place at sound of an all too familiar deep voice. You allow yourself to follow after him, body walking backwards as you stay eye to eye with the large man who you were just about to curse to oblivion.
“You’re really a troublesome little thing, aren’t you?” The voice behind you sighs, deciding it was safe to talk now that you were at respectable distance away from the crowd. His hand loosens over your mouth as he lets you go, clearing his throat as he places his hands inside the pockets of his jacket. You immediately snap your head back and as expected, your faced with Taehyung himself, all in his gorgeous glory as he leans against the bar table with an amused look.
“You-” You don’t know if it was the adrenaline or the way he was looking at you but you had stepped forward, the tips of both your shoes touching as you glare up at him “Fu-“
“Fuck me?” He smiles, head tilting to the side teasingly. You heart slams against your chest, eyes widening in shock when you realize how close your face had gotten to his.
“Fuck you.” You agree, lips pressing into a thin line as you step away from him, doing your best to seem unfazed. Taehyung watches you in silent contemplation, eyes studying you in your white button down shirt, tucked into black jeans and paired off with dirty white sneakers; your signature work look. You notice his scrutiny and fight back a blush, embarrassed to be under his gaze. You cross your arms over your chest, tongue swiping over you lower lip as you bob your head to the side
“You’re not red eyed today.” You stutter unconsciously, eyes locking with his as you waste no time interrogating him. You had been curious for 3 days now; you weren’t going to wait another minute for answers. A wave of irritation seeps through you when you see brown orbs looking down at you, knowing damn well that they had been blood red the last time you saw him.
“When have I ever been red eyed?” Taehyung bobs his head to the side, eyebrows furrowing in confusion at the words that had left your mouth.
“That night, at the street when-” You glance around cautiously, not sure if the conversation was supposed to be spoken out loud “When I was about to be attacked, you had red eyes then. Mark’s eyes were red too!”
“Mark? Mark who?” Taehyung frowns, his expression unreadable as he scratches the back of his neck.
“The guy you were choking! Right before you told me to run to the bus. Taehyung, do you not remember?” You could hear the frustration in your voice as you look at him desperately, begging for answers. Begging him to remember that night. Begging him to say you weren’t as crazy as you thought you were. Begging him at least for an explanation.
“Y/n, I dont really know what you’re talking about. What street? We only spoke to each other at the beach. Are you drunk right now?”
“No! After that, Taehyung! You saved me, near the bus stop. How can you n-” The words die down in your mouth when you see the look on his face. He was judging you.
Taehyung had his eyebrows furrowed, staring at you in distress, as if you were a crazy woman spewing out sheer nonsense. You press your lips together, throat tightening as you feel tears prickling at corner of your eyes. No, no matter how aggravated and desperate you were, you weren’t going to cry.
But had it all really been a figment of your imagination? Had none of that really happened?
“Y/n?”
“How did you know my name?” You say, voice barely above a whisper, deciding that this was going to be your final question “How’d you know it was my birthday? I never told you that.”
Taehyung stares at you for a few seconds, fingers playing with the edge of his jacket, as if thinking something through. But instead of giving you an answer you were hoping to hear, he’s clearing his throat and turning to look back at the dance floor.
“You think I’d crash a birthday party without even trying to find out who the celebrant was?”
You take an unconscious step back, head piecing together what he had said and what you were claiming, none of them connecting at all. Red eyes flash fresh in your mind and you dig your nails into the palm of your hands, biting down the urge to scream at him. To tell him he was lying, that you had seen his eyes, you had heard his voice. That you weren’t crazy.
“Right.” You nod, hands tucking back a stray strand of your hair behind your ears. You lift your eyes to gaze up at his face; once again searching for any sign of familiarity to the red eyed boy you had seen 3 days ago. When you see his features empty of any emotion, you take your lip between your teeth, pushing down the bitter feeling bubbling inside of you. Maybe you had imagined it all. Maybe you were crazy. Maybe seeing Jungkook with that girl had broken your receptor of reality and insanity.
“I think I was just drunk then, how silly.”
“It happens.” Taehyung shrugs, nose crinkling as if he was recalling a fond memory “I was a little bit trashed that night too. I didn’t see you after we talked though, did you leave early?”
Red eyes like those don’t just happen.
“Yeah.” You nod, hands pressing against your jeans as you step away from him. He watches you, a look of anxiety suddenly flashing through his features so fast, you almost miss it. Then suddenly, a hand pressing against your shoulders has you turning away from him as you are faced with the anxious gaze of Jungkook
The young boy looks down at you, eyes wide with concern as he studies you from head to toe “We’ve been looking all around for you. Where the heck did you run off to?”
“I was with-” You turn to look back at where Taehyung had once stood, eyes widening in bewilderment when you’re greeted by an empty bar stool, the deep voiced stranger once again nowhere in sight.
“With?” Jungkook asks again and you just shake your head, heart hammering against your chest as a feeling of familiarity vibrates through your nerves. Your eyes scan the underground club for a blue bomber jacket, teeth digging into your lower lip as you bite back a knowing smile.
This was the third time Taehyung had disappeared in front of you.
You weren’t crazy.
Taehyung presses a hand against his cheek, legs dangling off of the metal roof without a care in the world. He takes his lower lip between his teeth, eyes locked on the shade of white swaying happily as she stands beside the tall boy who had come for her earlier. Taehyung eyes the tall boy, biting back an annoyed scoff when he sees him battling the idea of putting his arm around you or not. When you had caught him lifting his arm up over your shoulder, he immediately steps back, a nervous smile gracing his lips as he feigns innocence by pretending to stretch his arms up in the air.
“How mundane.” Taehyung mutters with repugnance.
Taehyung eyes then return to you as you wave excitedly at the short boy who all but runs towards you, hands waving around an envelope filled with cash. You let out a wide smile, eyes shutting in happiness as you bite back a bright laugh and spread your hands out to hug him. Taehyung presses his tongue against the inside of his cheeks; fingers tightening around the metal can in his hands.
Why do they so easily assume that they can touch her?
You’re voice echoes against Taehyung’s mind and he lets out a chuckle, recalling the accusations you had told him, wanting nothing more than to receive answers for what you had seen that night. “She’s too smart for her own good.” He sighs, lips curling up in a smile when he sees you raising the finger at one of your friends for commenting about your gain of weight. You had questioned him regarding the mishap that had happened 3 days ago and if Taehyung hadn’t thought of an excuse as fast as he did, you would already probably have known what he was. And for some reason, the boy didn’t want that. Humans were too vulnerable, too easy to hurt and easy to kill. If you had known about him, about who or what he really was, you would get too curious to the point of getting yourself hurt. And Taehyung vowed to himself that he was no longer going to keep playing savior. He had already got himself involved two times when he in reality, he was supposed to keep himself in the shadows, especially now that the next blood moon was coming up.
Your so called best friend lets out a loud laugh, hand slinging over you casually as he leans his face close to yours. Taehyung suddenly felt the need to let out a growl, annoyed to see the hand pressed over you so heedlessly. But then, a flash of gold catches his attention causing Taehyung to sit up and lean forward. His eyes widen with curiosity as he studies the wristband, the familiarity of it causing his heart to hammer against his chest wildly.
“Jimin?” Taehyung calls out for his friend, head tipping back gently.   But he keeps his eyes on you, watching you enter your friend’s car before you’re slamming the door shut.
“Yo.” The called boy slams himself down beside Taehyung, head tilted sideways as he waits to be spoken to.
“Asgard gold. Only guardians have those, right?” Taehyung finally turns to look at Jimin, eyebrow cocking up in question.
“Asgard gold? Yeah, it’s the guardian’s gold. Why?” Jimin puffs his cheeks out, hand balancing a can of beer before taking a long drink.
“Let’s say a guardian is hanging around a human.” Taehyung recalls the gold band, drawing each detail in his mind with caution “What could that mean?”
Jimin purses his lips, shocked to have been asked such a question but Jimin has learned more than once not to doubt Taehyung’s curiosity. So instead of questioning him, Jimin just lifts his eyes to the sky in deep thought
“It could mean that he either betrayed his duty, got kicked out, or-”
“Or lost his royal and went rogue?” Taehyung finishes his sentence, lips curling up in a knowing smile as he strains his ears once again, trying to find your voice against the drum of traffic.
“Yeah, I guess.” Jimin chuckles as he turns to look at his friend “Why? Is this little girlfriend of yours a guardian?”
Taehyung rolls his eyes at the choice of words of the shorter boy, lips curling up in a devilish smirk as he mutters a quick command. Taehyung doesn’t even bother to watch as Jimin’s body flies towards the roof of the building behind them, landing back first against the rotting metal with a loud grunt.
“WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT FOR?” Jimin growls out in anger, and Taehyung just chuckles at him, proud at his form of revenge.  He turns his head back towards where you had drove off to, straining his ears against the sound of traffic before he’s wincing, lips fighting back a laugh as you wail an unfamiliar song, completely out of tune.
Why is the human world suddenly to interesting ever since I saw you?
You throw a towel over your shoulders; face forming into scowl once you are greeted by your reflection. Had you looked this bad the entire day? You wipe your freshly washed face, hands pushing your sleeves higher as you fight back a yawn.
Without your consent, Taehyung’s image flashes before your eyes and you suddenly still, lips lifting up into a smile as you recall him denying your claims. He had called you drunk, acted as if you were spewing out nonsense, even almost claiming that you were crazy.
But you knew better.
Right when Jungkook had reached for your arm, things had happened so fast you swore you almost missed it. For a split second, Taehyung eyes had shifted and turned red and once you had faced Jungkook, the boy had disappeared.
Just like he had three days ago.
You take your lower lip between your teeth, eyes lifting up to stare at your reflection as you reach for your toothbrush. No matter how crazy it seemed to have made you, you knew Taehyung was more than meets the eye. And as dangerous and stupid as it may be, you were going to find out every juicy detail about him even if it killed you. You were going to find out just who or what Taehyung really is.
“Taehyung.” You whisper his name cautiously; suddenly questioning if that was actually his real name. Maybe he had lied to you from the start, using a fake name so that you couldn’t find him. You puff your cheeks out in oddity, staring at yourself in the mirror as you test his name yet again. The more you spoke it, the more it seemed like the perfect name for him. But all in all, it was just his first name.  As much as you had that information about him, you were never going to get far if you didn’t know his full name. You place your toothbrush inside of your mouth, mind starting to list possible surnames that could fit his image.
Park? Jung? Song? Yu? Byun?
“Kim?” The word is out of your mouth before you can control it, and your eyes immediately widen at the sound of excitement in your voice. Why was a name making you so giddy?
“Kim Taehyung?” You test the full name again, hand dropping to the sink as you stare at yourself. Shivers vibrate down your spine and you push the feeling back, tongue aching to say the name again.
“Kim.
Taehyung.”
You smile; mind racing with thoughts of calling out his full name when you see him again. Honestly, you weren’t even positive that it was his actual name but with the way it had rolled off of your tongue, sounding so ideal, you were almost certain you had discovered the real name of the red eyed boy.
After a few beats, you roll your eyes at how childish you were acting. The fact that a single name was giving you so much delight when in reality; you were probably never going to see the boy again. You decide to return back to brushing your teeth, hands tightening around your toothbrush as you purse your lips.
Maybe you were going crazy.
You let out a sigh, hands pressing against the sink as you give way to the childish part of your mind, allowing yourself one last time of saying his name before you called it quits. There was a fine line to stupidity, and you were sure you were already crossing it.
Just one last time.
“Kim Taehyung.”
Your toothbrush falls out of your mouth, landing against the sink with a loud clang as you grip the edge of the counter with all of your might, using it to balance yourself. You hear your heart beating against your ears, legs starting to shake as you take in your reflection through the mirrors, eyes blown up wide with alarm as they slowly inch to look at the body behind you. Red eyes stare back at you, just as wide as yours as his lips part in shock. He places his arms over his bare upper body, cheeks flaming in embarrassment as he tries to make sense of the situation before him.
“Y/n?”
Kim Taehyung, in all his red eyed glory, was in your bathroom.
