Warnings: Angst, Season 1 and No Regrets ova spoilers
Word Count: 4k
If you haven’t already, read part one here
As a former member of the Scouts yourself, you knew the ins and outs of the military’s regulations. Because of this, you also knew your request was a strange one, seeing as soldiers weren’t typically allowed visitors, but you hoped your letter appealed to the more personal side of Commander Erwin. Apparently it somehow moved the man, seeing as you had been brought by carriage to the legion's base the following night.
The clopping of horse hooves eventually stopped, and you were currently being escorted into the building by another familiar face, her hand already outstretched to help you out of the vehicle as soon as the door swung open.
“I understand your reservations about this, but you’re brave for coming here. I think he’ll be relieved to see you, (Y/N),” Hange spoke, her fingers hovering over the small of your back as she guided you down one of the many hallways, lantern swinging in her free hand. “I think he could benefit from seeing a familiar face.”
Your eyes were downcast, staring at the floor as rooms upon rooms passed by along your path. You couldn’t speak if you tried, words seemingly stuck in your throat and unable to keep up with your racing thoughts.
Deep breaths, (Y/N).
For better or for worse, there was no need to reply, as Hange came to a halt not a second later. She squeezed your shoulder gently before bringing her knuckles to the wooden door, knocking once, twice.
Your hands were clammy, heart thundering in your ears as you tried to steady your breathing.
“Levi, someone is here to see you,” Hange’s voice rang out firmly.
There was a distinct sound of a chair being pushed back, and footsteps growing nearer. Time slowed down, and you began to second guess every decision up to now. Would Levi even want you to be here? Will he be angry? You felt like bolting away and forgetting about the whole idea, suddenly afraid of his reaction. Afraid that your presence would only make everything worse.
Your eyes were widening as you realized the possibility of leaving was too late to explore, Levi already turning the handle from the other side. So instead, you swallowed your pride, stood up straighter, and pushed away the growing sensation of nausea in your gut.
“Who could possibly be important enough to interrupt my--”

The second his eyes met yours, Levi halted in all movements. Your gaze was fixed on him as well, every bit of longing settling back in your bones the second it did.
He looked nearly the same as the last time you saw him, clean and kempt as ever, hair styled the way it always was-- the same way he’d keep it when he used to chastise you for running your fingers through it.
And those stoic, gray irises that drew you in your were fierce, yet somehow emptier. At the sight of you, his flooding emotions became too much to properly register, unlocking every moment you’d ever spent with him as they replayed all at once.
“(Y/N)?” He couldn’t hide his disbelief, eyes widening ever so slightly.

“Hello, Levi.”

~~~~~~~~~
Never did Levi think he would grow to care for another group of people the same way he had for you, Farlan, and Isabel. But sitting around Petra, Gunther, Eld, and Oruo, he found their excited chatter over the dinner table endearing more than anything. The ever stoic look on his face didn’t change, and he would never openly admit it, but it felt reminiscent to be surrounded by trusted company like this. All of Squad Levi had full faith in one another; it was necessary for the battle field. This created an unspoken bond between all of them that the unreachable Ackerman did not picture building with others again.
Fate worked in funny ways, he supposed.
Sounds of clinking silverware and chatter filled the mess hall, sun setting outside of its many windows and painting the expanse in an orange light. The males eyes drifted towards the entrance of the room expectantly, where a clock rested above the doorway. He took a sip of his tea whilst squinting at it, attempting to get a better read before feeling a slight jab in his side.
“Looking for someone, sir?” Petra inquired, with a hint of deeper emotion in her tone that went right over the male’s head.
He glared at her in annoyance, having almost spilled his drink as the thought of you returned to the forefront of his mind.
It was strange, seeing how capable you had become after spending those months by yourself in the Underground. They made you a bit more calloused than when Levi last saw you, carrying over to your skills as a Scout. You never used to be skilled at riding ODM gear, not even when Levi tried to teach you in your youth. Seeing you slash Titans without blinking an eye was like watching someone completely different.
But you had to learn, since you had no one to protect you.
Your open displays affection had grown fewer and farther between as your time in the Survey Corps dragged on. At first, Levi thought nothing of it. Truthfully, the Captain had hardly noticed, with how busy the both of you were. He wrote it off as stress, or the workload catching up to you. Or, maybe, it was that nagging thought in the back of his conscience he dared not dwell on: he had turned you into this, after being away for so long and then failing to protect your friends.
But as your words replayed in his mind like a broken record, too late he realized this wasn’t the case.
“I see the way you look at her. I see it because you used to look at me that way.”
“Captain?” Petra repeated, leaning forward to study his distant countenance and successfully pulling the man out of his thoughts. “She’s probably just training.”
He rested his hand on top of her head, turning it away from him and sighing.
“Eat, Petra. I don’t need you to be whining about hunger during our patrol tomorrow morning,” he chastised, forcing his eyes away from the doorway.
After that talk, Levi had watched you go, telling himself that you’d return soon enough. Yet could not shake the feeling in his gut that there was something amiss. He pushed away the pit in his stomach. You were safe, you were healthy, and that was all that mattered. Humanity’s Strongest had other things to focus on, after all, and tuned back into his comrades’ conversation. The man blended back in easily, occasionally offering a few of his own comments as the meal dragged on.
Every so often his thoughts would shift back to your conversation earlier that day, and he realized that you were wrong. As close to Petra as he had gotten, there was a stark difference between you and her:
No matter how strong you’d get, and no matter what you thought of him, Levi would always shield you from as much of this world as he could.
But it was better this way. Better if you moved on from him and easier to do if you thought it was because he wanted Petra.
If only he knew your last words to him “I’ll be back for dinner,” had been a lie.
It had been strange for him when you didn’t return. Levi tried not to think about how Kenny had done the same, instead grasping for a reason. For once, he could not read your thought process. The male had no idea why you’d voluntarily leave, after everything. He knew better than to hold onto certainty, but you’d thrown him for a loop. You were always the one to communicate, the problem solver, the one who understood him without much direction. Didn’t you know that you were irreplaceable? He should have come clean: told you that he didn’t see Petra that way, and just didn’t have the heart to admit he didn’t feel good enough for you anymore.
Did he ever even get the chance to say “I love you?”
His regret multiplied tenfold as he began to understand that maybe if he had, you would’ve stayed.
~~~~~~~~
A strange sense of comfort washed over the man as you smiled softly, small hands clasped together in front of you. He blinked, wondering if you were simply a mirage caused by his sleep deprivation. But you remained where you were, after all this time, standing at his door. For once in the man’s life, his mind was drawing a blank.
“I’ll leave you guys to it, then,” Hange stated, excusing herself and soon disappearing out of sight.

Her statement pulled the both of you back into the present, and you were suddenly self conscious of Levi’s stare. You tucked your hair behind your ears and gestured towards his office, unable to gage his reaction to your presence.
“Would it be alright if I came in?” you asked shyly, astonished he hadn’t slammed the door in your face the second Hange left.

To your shock, Levi simply nodded, stepping aside to let you through. Your movements were unsure and hesitant, stark in comparison to his: calm and collected as ever.
Just like any space Levi occupied, the area was clean and tidy, a lantern sitting upon his desk the only source of light against the cloudy night sky. It smelled like tea leaves, sandalwood, and disinfectant, a signature scent that made you fill with nostalgia. As the click of the door echoed behind you, the reality of your situation set in, and you turned around to face the man you were here to see.
His gaze had never left you.
“You’re hurt,” was the first thing that left your mouth, concern evident as you studied the bandaging that peaked above his knee length shoes.

“Long story,” Levi offered curtly, eyeing you up and down from a few feet away. “One I don’t particularly care to tell you.”

“Of course, that’s fine,” you agreed softly, a weak smile pulling at your lips.
You did your best to mask the hurt, knowing you deserved to feel it. It hurt to be here, the fear that Levi hated you previously keeping you away. Now that you were facing the music, that fear seemed more realistic than ever. Your brain wracked to change the topic before your mind could continue overthinking; desiring instead to cut the unbearable, building tension that never used to exist between you two.
“How are you, Levi?” it was a stupid question, but you no longer knew how to talk to him.
“(Y/N).”

The way he said your name was sharp and challenging. You quickly cleared your throat and looked away.
“I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked. Of course you’re--”

“--Why did you leave?” Levi effectively cut you off, orbs narrowing as you dared to come closer.
The question caught you off guard. You thought you’d made it obvious with your last conversation with him those years ago. Surely, he had some idea, although his pained expression said otherwise. His fingers twitched at his sides, a movement you didn’t miss as your eyes flickered back to his in surprise. He had been so composed just a moment ago, that the sudden shift gave you whiplash.
Now his fists were clenching, as he waited in the painful silence, knuckles turning white.
“Why did you leave?” The phrase echoed tauntingly in your ears, over and over again.
You don’t know what came over you. All you knew was that you needed to rid him of the rare, defeated look etched into his countenance. To purge him of this feeling you caused. Whether reaching out would help or hurt, you didn’t know.
But you needed to be near him.
Levi’s eyelids screwed shut as you brushed your thumb across his cheek. The action was so simple, so delicate, so unsure and so familiar all at once, and at the feeling, the Captain’s composure finally came undone.

He reached up and gripped your wrist, as if you’d fade away if he let go. In previous years, it was always you who craved skinship, yet it seemed as if a weight had been lifted off Levi’s shoulders to have you this close. Your touch still felt like the comforting warmth of a campfire; the type that would make anyone want to stay forever.
“I’m sorry. I thought you’d be better off without me,” you whispered. “I didn’t want to cause you any pain.”
He let out a breath.
“Then why are you here now?” his question was more defeated than hostile, which you hadn’t expected.
If someone asked a few hours ago, your answer would have been much clearer. But now, the logic that brought you here seemed overshadowed by doubt. After all this time, and after everything that had happened between you and Levi, any semblance of a relationship with him seemed unsalvageable. You told yourself this mantra over and over until it stuck. So why were you here?
Levi must’ve thought it audacious, for you to run away like a coward and still think you were relevant to him.
“I owe you so much. Whether I ended up being wrong or right, I’ve always acted with your best interest,” you sighed, thumb brushing over Levi’s dark circles. “Truthfully, I don’t know if I’m any use to you now. I might be the last person you want to seek comfort from, but on the off chance that I still matter to you, I’ll always come back,” you whispered earnestly.
Levi’s grip on your wrist tightened imperceptibly, and you longed to bury your face in the crook of his neck; to feel him wrap his arms around you in his embrace once more. It seemed as if Levi was staring into your soul, his shallow breaths mingling with yours at this close proximity as he opened his eyes to fully drink you in.
“I’m here to tell you that if you need me, I’ll stay.”

He looked to the side as if brushing aside your touch, hand falling away from the raven-haired man’s face as he did so. It felt like rejection, as if he was brushing all of you away with a simple turn of his head.
Silence.
“You’re a real idiot, (Y/N),” he spoke finally, voice nearly out of place against the stillness.
Moonlight suddenly peaked through the window, showering you in a bath of silver light. Levi recognized this look. You were wearing your heart on your sleeve, offering everything you had to give; eyes wide and honest, shining with a vulnerability that even after a lifetime of knowing you, he had never seen before. The man felt conflicted at the sight, annoyance prickling under his skin as you somehow managed to hold him together and tear him apart all at once with your presence.
Losing his squad twist that knife in his heart, convincing him that he was cursed to be left by everyone and his superhuman talents only doomed him to live a life alone.
But now, here you were, standing within arms length: despite the pain you caused, still the only person he had left. Only you could draw this much emotion out of the typically monotonous man. He couldn’t tell if you were a blessing or a curse, but in the moment, all he knew was that he didn’t want you to leave again. He needed you to stay here, with him, the way it should be. Because you were family.
And true to your word, you did.
“You should really get some sleep, you know,” you stated after a while, closing the door with your foot as you entered with two fresh cups of tea.

You watched Levi fill out paperwork on the other side of the desk, bringing the cup to his lips in the strange fashion you always teased him for. His gaze flickered up boredly.
“You know I don’t sleep. You go on ahead, though. The bed’s behind that door,” he paused, gesturing somewhere behind him. “I hardly ever use it.”
You shook your head, reaching forward and plucking Levi’s pen from his hand.

“What you’re drinking is caffeine free. I switched it, so you have no excuse now.” You ignored the indignant scowl growing on the Captain’s face, urging him to listen. “Please, you really should rest. You know you need to.”
It took an entire hour of imploring and convincing for the man to finally give in, him grumbling as you helped take off the boot on his injured foot and ushered him onto the bed. You knew you were the last person with any right to tell the short Captain what to do, but knowing Levi, he was running on an hour or two of sleep while his body was begging for rest. And yes, you were very much hypocritical, draped across the couch in Levi’s office, staring at the ceiling. But none of that mattered to you, as long as he was okay.
You had been lost in introspection, being a room away from your childhood best friend and first love after so long a surreal experience. It felt strange to be back here, but you were too tired to dwell on how strangely out of place you seemed in a place you once called home.
The weight of your abundant emotions from the day finally crashed down, fatigue settling in. You rubbed your eyes, and snuggled closer to the cushions, letting the darkness claim you.
And in the other room, as Levi slipped out of his uniform, shaking his head in exasperation. His last thoughts while he inspected the door as if he could see you through it, was that of course only (Y/N) (L/N) could be more stubborn than he was.
As he slipped under the covers per your command, the ghost of a smile spread across his lips at the thought.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Perhaps it was the constant danger of where you grew up, and the need to always stay on your toes, but for as long as you could remember, you’d been a light sleeper. If someone so much as stared at you for too long, your body would jolt awake, ready to take action within a moment’s notice. There had been many instances where this came in handy in your past; even after years of seldom disruption in your now boring life within the walls, this was a trait you never seemed to grow out of. So it wasn’t hard to notice the heavy breathing and panicked movement from behind Levi’s closed door.
Just like for you, some things never changed-- when it came to old habits, you knew the man like the back of your hand. The reason he rarely ever slept was one you were quite familiar with. One both of you struggled with, and probably always would. Nightmares never seem to stop. You’d gotten through so many of your own rough nights with your friends by your side.
Levi, however, always refused to admit how they affected him. Insisted on going through it by himself.
The subconscious urge to look after one other was most likely one you'd never grow out of, even if Levi had. You didn’t think twice before making your way across the office, swinging your legs across the sofa, awake within seconds. Without missing a beat, you stood up and made your way to Levi’s personal sleeping quarters, knuckles rapping against the frame twice. Levi’s shallow gasps quieted, and when you realized he didn’t plan on opening the door, you steeled your nerves to do it yourself. This was what you were here for, wasn’t it? To offer some comfort?
He did want me to stay.
“Levi?” You called into the darkness gently, feet padding foreword as your eyes adjusted to the lack of light.
His silhouette was upright in the bed, no doubt staring at you menacingly.
“I'm fine, (Y/N). Go back to sleep,” he snapped.
That didn't deter you, for he would never openly admit vulnerability. This was by no means new behavior. Besides, the strong emotion behind the Captain’s voice was an easy tell that betrayed his words. You pressed on, sitting on the edge of the mattress.
“Do you remember the time we were teenageers and you got sick, but couldn’t afford medicine so I took that sketchy job you specifically told me not to?” Your back was to him, yet you could feel Levi peering at you.
“Obviously,” he humoured you with a reply, knowing you weren’t going to leave. “You came home half alive and I felt like the most useless piece of shit in the world.”
You chuckled, fingers fiddling with the white sheets beneath them.
“Yes, which was unfair to yourself but also something I did not realize since you called me pretty much every name in the book,” you smiled, the memory oddly fond despite its events. “You were so angry, but I was also scared out of my mind... which was more important than your anger, I suppose. So you let me lay next to you that night. That was all it took to make me feel safe again.”
There was a long pause, you trying to get your words together in a way that could allow Levi to understand how you felt right now.
“I know what you’re thinking; what you’ve been thinking your whole life. You haven’t failed anyone and that stupid idea should be the furthest thing on your mind. Take it from someone who knows, alright? So many lives have had meaning because of y--”
His hand closed around your wrist, the grip much like it was the day you left him.
This time, he would not let go.
“--Stop, (Y/N). Don’t.”
You hadn’t realized there were tears falling down your cheeks until Levi turned your face to look at him. Trying to look away in your embarrassment, you laughed bitterly. His grip did not budge as he examined you sternly.
“Just be quiet and go to sleep, alright?”
You wiped at your face, determination etched into every fibre of your being.
“Mark my words, Levi, I will make you believe me.”
Levi rolled his eyes but tugged at you once more, opening the duvet in an invitation. When he sensed your uncertainty he simply nodded, arms winding around your waist as you finally crawled in beside him. Both of you knew that there was so much that still needed to be said; so many buried feelings and pain that would only take time to unravel. It felt like a miracle to find yourselves in this situation, pushing aside the thousands of emotions and questions and misunderstandings the two of you had, if only to stay together in this moment.
You didn’t need Levi to know that you still loved him; not while he was coping with another loss. It would be selfish to spring that on, and that was not what you were here for. But you had to tell him:
“I missed you.”
Levi hummed, nose brushing against yours in the close proximity.
“You better not be gone when I wake up,” he chided in response, orbs fluttering shut.
Your fingers threaded through his onyx black locks, brushing through the knots soothingly. Knowing you’d help this man heal no matter how long it took, you took comfort in the realization that he’d finally let you do just that.
“I’ll be right here. You’re not alone, Levi. I promise you never will be.”
He pulled you closer, thankful that there was at least one source of warmth left in his life that he could hold onto-- especially after coming to terms with and almost having been certain he’d never experience this feeling of contentment, again. But here you were to prove him wrong, a living slice of home in his arms.
It may have been wishful thinking, but you could have sworn you felt Levi’s breath fan across your hairline, a soft voice whispering “Thank you, (Y/N).” before you felt yourself slip away into slumber once more.
FATWS One Shot #7 - Revels
Word Count: 2921
Warnings: Cursing, That’s All, it’s a Really Tame One Shot
Setting/Characters: Party Scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron; Lots of Characters so I’m Not Gonna Name Them All
A/N: I know…it’s very late. I wanted to have it out on Friday, but I dunno, guys. My motivation as of late has been very low. I finally decided to just sit down and write tonight. So here it finally is!
This one is pretty mild compared to others. There’s a few feeling things in here, but it’s mainly just the reader hanging out with the team. The ending’s written a bit weird, but I didn’t know what to cut it off because the writers did a nice job of making the Mjolnir scene flow into the scene with Ultron’s appearance, but I didn’t want to write the whole fight with Ultron, I just wanted the lifting scene.
Listen here, though! Prepare yourselves to be conflicted even more with Steve! I made it a lot more…touchy than I was planning on. Don’t come at me! It needs to be done! This’ll be one of the last ones focused on Steve like that though. The next one is reader and Wanda bonding and then after that I don’t have any more planned for AoU, so we’ll be going to Civil War, which is where reader meets Bucky officially. So Bucky’s coming soon!
I’m gonna update my WIP List and - maybe - my One Shot list and post those later, along with a poll because I dunno which series I wanna start on next.
Thank you all so much for your patience, understanding, and support! As always, not beta’d, so please excuse the mistakes, all are mine! Be kind to yourselves and others! Enjoy and stay tuned!
Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.
You set your bag down and looked at your phone, vibrating from where you just left it on the counter. You looked at the time and squinted. Seven. You supposed it wasn’t too late, but you weren’t expecting any calls.
Tired, your feet dragged as you moved across the room to get your phone. You were helping Fury set up the Helicarrier again while still remaining “dead” to everyone. It was the last thing you were doing before joining the Avengers full time. You were a bit hesitant to be in the spotlight after all these years, but after much pressuring from your team, especially a certain blonde, you finally caved. It was time for a change anyways. It might even be good for you.
Speaking of blondes, Bubba flashed across your screen, a picture of him with some scruff that you took one day in spite of his protests because you’d never seen him with a beard before lighting up behind the contact name.
You answered it, rubbing your eyes with the heel of your hands as you did so. “Hi, bubs. What’s-”
“Where are you? I miss you. Are you coming soon?”
You chuckled at his whines, an eyebrow raising as you processed his words. “Whaddya mean? I’m at my place. Where am I supposed to be?”
“Honey!” You giggled at his groan, finding it amusing how childish he could be at times. “The party? Tonight? Remember? You promised you’d come. I don’t wanna be here without you.”
“Oh shit,” you hiss out. “That’s tonight?” Moving across the kitchen to check your calendar, you scrunch up your face when you see ‘Avenger’s Tower 6 pm’ written in the square. “It’s Saturday. Aw, Stevie. I totally forgot.”
“Oh. So…are you - are you not coming, then?”
Frowning at his fallen tone, you shake your head. “I’ll be there. Just…give me a bit.”
“No, no. It’s okay. You sound tired. You don’t have to-”
“I’m on my way, Steve. I did promise after all. I’m an hour out.”
You could hear his surprise in his voice. “An hour? You’re not in D.C.?”
“I’m a little bit upstate. Just in a safehouse while I help Fury work on something.”
He let out a contemplative hum from the other side of the line. “That secret project you still won’t tell me anything about?”
A smile appeared across your lips as you walked to the bedroom to change into something a little more appropriate, settling for a comfortable romper instead of dealing with a dress. “You know I can’t, bubs. You haven’t told anyone, right?”
“No ma’am.”
You giggle softly. “Alright. Thank you. You’ll find out soon, probably. It’s almost done. Promise.”
“Then you’ll come live here? With me - the team, I mean? I miss you. The team missed you. On the raid.”
“Oh yeah. How was it?”
“Get here and I’ll tell you.”
You laughed, shaking your head. “I’m coming, I’m coming. See you then, bubba.”
“Okay, honey. See ya then.”
*****************
It was nearly nine when you got to the Tower, but any party thrown by Stark didn’t end until at least ten, so you knew you were fine. Just…fashionably late. A concept you knew Tony understood and you wouldn’t hesitate to remind him if he brought it up.
You were pleasantly surprised by how tame the party was. Sure there were a hundred people you doubted even Tony knew, but no flashing lights, the music wasn’t blaring, and no one was grinding on anyone. Everyone was just talking, drinking, and having a good time.
“Hey! There you are! Capsicle said he called you, but that was hours ago!”
Speak of the devil. You grinned and let Tony pull you into a hug before taking the drink he offered. “Yeah, well, I had a few things to do today.”
His eyebrow quirked up. “A few things, huh? Anything I should know about?”
“Nope!” You popped your lips and gave him a smirk. “Not everything’s about you, Mr. Stark.”
“Yeah, well, we missed you this week. Fun raid.” He looked you up and down and nodded, gesturing to your outfit. “Alright, you know what? I accept this. This is okay. Not what I had in mind, but you pull it off.”
You laughed, shoving his shoulder playfully. “It’s comfortable, okay? Where’s Steve?”
The billionaire rolled his eyes and gave you a look. “Don’t worry your pretty little head. He’s over playing pool with Wilson. C’mon! I wanna get you drunk and complain about my perfect, heroic, billionaire life to my favorite teammate!”
“I just need to tell him I’m here.” You snicker. “And don’t let anyone here you say that. I don’t want my rep to become Tony’s favorite.”
He chuckled with you and gave you another squeeze. “Alright, alright. Come find me later, though. I do have something I need to show you.”
You shook your head, already knowing where the conversation was heading. “Tony! No! I don’t need a suit! Thank you, I appreciate it, but I’m really okay. I like fighting in sweatpants.”
“Fine!” He huffed out. “But at least let me show you some designs I came up with. I put a lot of hard work into them, you know.”
Tapping his chest, you nodded. “I’m sure you did. I’ll come find you and you can show me, but that’s it.”
He smirked, drawing an ‘x’ over his heart with his finger. “Cross my heart.”
“I’m serious, Tony!” You point at him as he started walking away. He just blew a kiss towards you, making you laugh and roll your eyes again.
Turning, you scanned the room for the pool table where, supposedly, Steve was playing with Sam, who you had no idea was gonna be here. You’d been helping him out with the whole James - Bucky, you reminded yourself - Barnes thing during your free time. No such luck yet. The man was literally a ghost, even for you.
You couldn’t stop the smile on your lips when you finally caught sight of him, his brown leather jacket hugging his shoulders a grin on his face as Sam talked to him about something. Quickly making your way over, your arms wrapped around that ridiculously tiny waist, crossing over his stomach. You felt him tense at the sudden contact, before he relaxed at a kiss to the nape of his neck and spun around.
The beam he gave you made your heart flip, his muscled arms winding around your neck. “Y/N! You made it!”
His boyish excitement made you laugh. “I told you I’d come. Hi, Sam.”
Sam nodded and waved. “What’s good, Y/N?”
“Who’s winning?” Slipping out of Steve’s hold, you leaned over the table to study the games process.
“We just started a new one.” Steve informed you. “Wanna join?”
You raised an eyebrow at him. “You sure you wanna be embarrassed in front of all these nice people?”
“Oooh!” Sam winced. “Smack! Alright. Put your money where your mouth is, Y/L/N. Ten bucks says I win.”
“You’re on, Wilson.”
A few more drinks, a couple games, and thirty extra bucks later, Tony called you over impatiently. Steve gave you a questioning look as you heated up, Tony waving his arms dramatically and shouting your name. God, he’s so embarrassing.
“He wants me to look at suit designs.”
Steve frowned at your explanation. “I thought you told him no?”
You chuckled. “I did. I’ll be right back, bubs.” After kissing his cheek, you head over to Tony. From there, you end up bouncing around from teammate to teammate, laughing and joking around with them.
Until Steve dragged you back with him again. “Excuse me.” He interrupted you, Clint, and Natasha’s chatter, grabbing your elbow and taking the drink you had in your hand. “I’m stealing you.”
“C’mon, man! It’s called sharing!”
Natasha laughed and nodded in agreement with Clint’s statement. “Everyone’s gotta have a turn, Rogers.”
Steve hummed, walking backwards and pulling you as you giggled in amusement. “You just had your turn, Romanoff.”
“Sorry guys.” You shrugged when the two looked at you incredulously. “Captain’s orders.”
“Damn right.” Steve nodded firmly.
“Watch your language!” Clint shouted with a pointed finger.
You raised an amused eyebrow at Steve’s groan. “Your language? They do know that you have, quite possibly, the worst mouth on the planet, right?”
He sighed, pulling you to the side of the room and wrapping his arms around your waist. “It’s something that happened on the mission. Which you would know if you were there.”
“Steven.”
He blinked innocently at you. “What?” At your pointed look, he let out a sigh, dropping his forehead to your shoulder. “Did I do something wrong? Is that why you’re avoiding me?”
“Who said I’m avoiding you?”
“C’mon, honey.” He lifted his head, his eyebrows furrowed together. “Don’t hurt me even more. I know you have.”
You shook your head, lips turning down and hand raising to cup his cheek. “Stevie, I’m not. I promise. I’ve just…I’ve just been busy.”
He pouted. “With Fury?”
Giving him a weird look you shook your head. “No. I mean, yes, but I’ve also been helping Sam out with your friend while you help the team with the rest of the HYDRA bases. You know that. What’s going on with you?”
“I’m sorry.” He sighed, ducking his head to your shoulder again. “I’ve just missed you.”
“I know, bubba. I’ve missed you too.”
The real truth was you had been avoiding him. Not on purpose. Kinda. You just felt something different around him. Something you’d never dealt with before. And you didn’t want to deal with it now, so you haven’t been. It was why you were so hesitant about becoming a full time Avenger. Well, that and the fact that you’d been in the shadows for a decade and you weren’t sure how well you’d do in the light.
“Where’s Sam?”
“He had to head home. Long drive. His excuse, not mine.”
You gasped in offense. “And he didn’t even say bye?! Rude!”
Steve chuckled, his nose brushing against the skin of your throat, breath tickling your collarbone. “I’m sure he’ll call you in the morning or something. Apologize for leaving so abruptly.”
You hummed, swallowing the lump that suddenly appeared in your throat. “Tell me about the language thing. What happened?”
He groaned, but straightened and told you about him accidentally scolding Tony, before he proceeded to tell you about the rest of the mission, including the Maximoff twins.
“Why is it that war always seems to breed more war?” You asked with a sigh.
“They’re just kids trying to do what’s right.”
“We all start out that way, don’t we?” You shook your head. Kids. they shouldn’t be fighting in a war. They shouldn’t have to deal with that. “It’s just a shame.” Your voice is muffled by his shirt after you pressed against his chest.
“Yeah.” He sighed out. “Wanna go get a drink?”
Pulling back from him and looking around, you noted that most guests had already gone and it was dwindling down to just the Avengers and a couple allies. “Yeah. Wanna sit down too. I’m kinda tired.”
“Alright, honey. Let’s go sit down.”
It wasn’t even half an hour later when you were all sitting around the middle of the room, everyone else having gone, but Dr. Helen Cho, Rhodey, Maria, and the team. You were in the same boat as Helen, who was basically passed out on an armchair. You’re legs thrown over Steve’s lap, stretched out to let your feet rest on Thor’s thigh, who was on the chair on the other side of the captain. You were hugging Steve’s arm, your head resting against his shoulder, a small smile of content across your features as you listened to the team banter and tease.
You started laughing at Clint’s comments towards Thor’s hammer while spinning the drumstick he had for whatever reason. “Ah, whosoever be he worthy shall haveth the power! Whatever, man! It’s a trick!”
You and Steve exchanged amused grins as Thor challenged Clint, who stood up with no hesitation and headed to the hammer.
“This is gonna be good.” You chirped, taking the bottle Steve handed you as the archer stopped in front of where it was placed on the table.
Clint stuck his tongue out at you, before turning back to Thor and gripping the handle. He tugged for a moment, grunting, before laughing in slight embarrassment. Chuckling, you snuggled closer to Steve’s side, your eyes feeling heavy. He turned his head to nose your temple and kiss your cheek.
“Oh brother.” You giggled, sitting up with interest as Tony stood up and unbuttoned his suit jacket.
“Alright, so if I lift it, I-I then rule Asgard?” Tony asked in clarification, slipping his hand through the strap.
“Yes, of course.” Thor confirmed with an amused smirk, shooting you a wink when you nudged his knee with your foot.
Tony braced himself, setting his foot on the table. “I will be reinstituting prima nocta.”
You rolled your eyes, scoffing. “Oh God, Tony.” Steve squeezed your knee with a slight chuckle as the billionaire tried lifting it to no avail. You gave him a weird look, watching him leave the room, before turning to Steve. “What’s he-?”
“Alright! Let’s try this again!”
Another fit of laughter left you and the team when Tony strutted back in with his Iron Man glove on. And when that didn’t work, Rhodey joined him with his War Machine glove.
Your eyes were watering and you tried holding in your laughter, but you couldn’t help it, pressing your face into Steve’s arm to muffle the sounds. You felt his shoulders shake with silent chuckles, which didn’t help your own.
When Bruce went up, an awkward silence filled the air after he tried Hulking out, but then you started laughing again.
“Your turn, bubba.” You nudged the blonde, who gave you a look, before shrugging and patting your thigh.
“You gotta get off then, honey.”
You rolled your eyes but swung your legs off him, letting him stand up. He rolled his sleeves up, stepping up to Mjolnir, a few encouragements from the team, before pulling on the hammer. You thought you saw it shake a little, but Steve yanked some more and it didn’t move, so you figured you were imagining it.
Steve sighed and let go, putting his hands up in surrender with a grin like the good sport he was. Thor laughed. “Nothing.”
You shrugged at the super soldier who plopped back down besides you as the others tried getting Natasha to go up. “You tried.”
He raised an eyebrow, crossing his arms and leaning back. “Well if Romanoff isn’t going…your turn.”
“Wh-what?” Your eyes went wide.
“I did it.” He gestured to the hammer. “Now you gotta.”
“Hold on, hold on. We didn’t agree on th-”
“Honey.” He gave you a little pout, cocking his head to the hammer. “C’mon. Just a tug.”
You narrowed your eyes, but your lips turned up and you straightened off the couch. “This is peer pressure. Captain America, everyone.” He chuckled as you stepped over to Mjolnir. “It’s not gonna work.”
Tony snorted. “Not with that attitude.”
“C’mon, Tones. If none of you could.”
The billionaire shrugged with a grin. “Never know if you don’t try.”
You deadpanned at him, gripping the handle and trying, in vain, to pull it. You didn’t put nearly as much effort as everyone else. “Wow. Look at that. What a surprise.”
“What was that?! You barely touched it!”
Giving a shrug, you started back to your seat. “I’m guessing if you’re worthy or whatever, it wouldn’t take that much to lift it.” You fell onto the couch, your head landing in Steve’s lap as you looked upside down at Thor and pointed at him. “But I do have a question for you.” The god looked at you in interest, gesturing for you to continue. “What does worthy mean? Like, what makes a person worthy to lift it? You couldn’t lift it a while back - I know, I read the files. SHIELD agent, remember?” You added when you saw him open his mouth to question you.
You blinked at him curiously, tilting your head, watching as his brow furrowed. Tony cackled and clapped at the silence in answer. “Oooh! She got you! All difference to the Man Who Wouldn’t Be King, but it’s rigged. And the lack of response to Y/N’s question just makes it more obvious.”
“That’s not what I meant-”
“You bet your ass.”
You rolled your eyes, letting it go as Maria teased Steve about Clint’s foul language. “Did you tell everyone about that?” Tony ignored Steve’s question and continued to ride on Thor and his hammer.
“Why are they trying to make sense of it?” You questioned, highly entertained, but also very tired, turning to press against Steve’s stomach.
“It’s Tony. I couldn’t tell you. C’mere.” Steve shifted you so that you were sitting up, but he was holding you more comfortably. “Try getting some sleep.”
You hummed and nodded against him, but a high pitched whine made you wince and stand up, Steve unconsciously standing a bit in front of you. A suit of Tony’s, damaged with wires hanging down and oil leaking out or places that didn’t have metal keeping them in, came in and you inwardly sighed at the bad feeling tugging at your gut.
So much for sleep.
Bechloe Week 2021 - Day 2
July 27th: Bed sharing/one bed
Read on AO3
Fun fact - everything I’ve written/will write for Bechloe week this year are all part of the same universe, but they won’t be posted in chronological order. So at the end of the week I’ll probably put something up with a list of the prompts in chronological order :)
-
Beca was pretty sure that sharing a bed with Chloe Beale was simultaneously the worst and best thing that had ever happened to her.
It was almost unbearable to be that close to her without being able to touch her in the way she really wanted to.
Strike that.
It was unbearable.
But Beca couldn’t sleep any other way.
On those occasions when Chloe would sleep elsewhere, Beca would find herself unable to drop off.
She’d be up most of the night tossing and turning, unable to get comfortable, unable to shut her mind off.
It was as if Chloe’s mere presence could calm Beca in a way that nothing else could.
And then they would have these moments of complete vulnerability late at night.
Chloe would reach out with a featherlight touch and run a hand through Beca’s hair. So gentle that sometimes Beca thought she was imagining it.
“Bec?”
“Hmm?”
“I can’t sleep.”
“M’kay.”
Beca would roll over, still practically asleep, and lift her arm, allowing Chloe to either scoot back into her - making Beca the big spoon - or for her to rest her head on her chest.
Beca was usually already asleep by the time Chloe had gotten into a comfortable position, but she always seemed to register the soft “thanks,” that Chloe would whisper.
On those nights when it was Beca’s turn to be comforted, Chloe seemed to always know without Beca having to ask.
Logically, Beca knew it was probably down to the fact that Beca tossed and turned more, or played on her phone for longer, that tipped Chloe off, but she liked to think that Chloe just… knew.
“What do you need?” Chloe would ask, her voice quiet and thick with sleep.
“Sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.”
“That’s not an answer.”
“Can you do the hair thing?”
“Mhm.”
Chloe would then lie on her side and gently run her hands through Beca’s hair, her nails lightly scratching her scalp.
Her other hand would rest on Beca’s side or stomach - depending on if she was on her back or side - and her thumb would sweep gently back and forth.
In the daylight, neither would mention these moments. They’d usually wake up back on their respective sides, and if they didn’t whoever woke up first would pull away and climb out of bed - usually waking the other in the process.
And while these moments were nothing short of tortuous for Beca, they were still the favourite part of her day.
Because at two or three in the morning, nothing else matters. There are no distractions. No texts or emails to answer. No potential to be interrupted. Nowhere they needed to be.
They could just exist in the quiet together. Their bed was an island in the room. They could ask questions that, in the cold light of day, could be forgotten or ignored. They could share secrets or confess insecurities that neither would at any other time of day.
“Bec, do you believe in soulmates?”
“I don’t know. I think so. Do you?”
“Yeah. Of course.”
-
“If I hadn’t kissed Jesse, do you think things would be different?”
“Different how?”
“I don’t know. Just different. I dated him throughout all of college, maybe I missed experiencing some things?”
“Do you regret dating him so long?”
“No. I don’t think so.”
-
“Chlo’?”
“‘Yeah?”
“What if I don’t make it as a producer? What if I’m not good enough?”
“You’re the most talented person I know. You’ll make it.”
-
Over the years of being best friends with Chloe, she’d always had a crush on her. It had been a harmless thing really, she assumed everyone had a crush on Chloe.
Especially after a drunken confession to Aubrey had caused the blonde to let out a snort of laughter and say “girl, same.”
But this last year or so that they’d spent sharing a bed - sharing more of themselves with each other than they’d ever done before - Beca had fallen hard and fast and completely in love with Chloe.
Which, let’s be honest, wasn’t an ideal situation. Especially considering that, about three weeks ago, Chloe had started dating Chicago.
“He rescued us from the Med, Beca. I think I owe him a date.”
“Technically Amy and I rescued you. He turned up after the hard bit was done.”
Wearing a new dress and her highest heels, Chloe had thrown Beca a wink and said “don’t wait up!” as she left their apartment to meet him for the third time this week.
Once the door closed, Beca flopped back dramatically on the bed and let out a groan.
“You know you could tell her!” Amy called from her bedroom. “Actually, ignore that, that’s a bad idea. If she turned you down it would make our living situation way more awkward.”
“When not if,” Beca said, miserably. “Have you seen the abs on Shit-ago?”
(Yes, her nickname for Chicago was unnecessarily mean and childish, but give her a break.)
“If Chloe hadn’t accepted the date I would have climbed him like a tree,” Amy said.
“You could save me a lot of pain if you’d use those millions of dollars you have to move out so I could at least have my own room,” Beca said.
Amy left her room and was also looking dressed up for a night out.
“I’m doing you a favour captain,” Amy said. “If I move out you’ll have no excuse to share a bed anymore, and I know you can’t sleep without her. Besides, when she eventually moves in with Chicago, you won’t be able to afford the rent on your own.”
“Please don’t use his real name, it humanises him,” Beca said. “And what makes you think she’d move in with him? Has she said anything?”
“Not specifically, no. But things are obviously going well between them. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that Chloe has found ‘the one’,” Amy said. “So, you know, if you’re going to make a confession of love, time’s ticking.” She checked her phone. “I gotta go. If you are going to comfort eat please leave my Ben & Jerry’s out of it.”
“I make no promises,” Beca said.
“Hmm, due to your pathetic state, I’ll let you off. See you tomorrow!”
Beca spent the remainder of her night feeling sorry for herself, and making some truly self-indulgent mixes.
There were so many songs about unrequited love that Beca was never short of material, and when she finished she saved them in a hidden password-protected so no-one else could even accidentally listen to them.
No, these mixes weren’t going to help her career but they did make her feel at least a little bit better.
The crying and eating Amy’s ice-cream had helped too of course.
Beca was in bed by the time Chloe got back that night, and even thought she wasn’t asleep she pretended she was.
Chloe could always tell when Beca had been crying, and she definitely did not want to talk about the reason why.
So she closed her eyes when she heard the keys in the door, and kept them closed as the lights came on which was followed by the sound of high-heeled shoes walking across the apartment.
She felt the bed dip behind her, and heard the click of Chloe’s lamp turn on.
The bed jostled again, and the main light went off.
She heard running water from the bathroom as Chloe washed off her makeup and brushed her teeth, and then the sound of drawers opening as she searched for pyjamas.
She heard Chloe undressing, and tried not to picture it. She hoped Chloe didn’t need help with unzipping her dress, because she didn’t know if she could handle that right now.
Eventually the bed dipped again and the light went out.
She felt Chloe gently tug at the blankets so she could cover herself.
Then there was nothing but a calm silence.
Beca could tell by the way that Chloe was breathing that she wasn’t asleep yet and before she could stop herself, she was rolling over to face her.
“Hey,” she said.
“Hi,” Chloe replied. “I didn’t mean to wake you.”
Beca just smiled as she looked at Chloe’s face in the moonlight. She was so beautiful.
“What?”
“Nothing,” Beca said. “How was your night?”
They were both whispering, even though they were the only two people in the apartment, and it was only a little after midnight.
“Fine,” Chloe said. “What did you get up to?”
“Made some mixes,” Beca said. “Before you ask, no. They’re not ready yet.”
Chloe grinned. “Not even for me?”
“Especially not for you.”
“Spoil sport,” Chloe said.
They fell into an easy silence while they just continued to look at each other, and Beca felt that tug in her heart again.
She wanted more than anything to just reach out and touch her. To tuck a strand of hair behind her ear. To sweep her thumb across her jaw.
To kiss her.
God, she wanted to kiss her.
She swallowed, and turned so she was lying on her back.
Amy was right. Time was running out if she was going to say something. And Beca knew she had to say something.
She just didn’t think she could look at Chloe while she said it.
“Is everything okay?” Chloe asked, in her gentlest voice that was always Beca’s undoing.
She just had to do it. She had to rip the bandaid off and deal with whatever came after.
If Chloe turned her down… well… their friendship could survive that.
Right?
“Are you gonna move in with Chicago?”
If she’d been looking at Chloe she’d have seen her frown.
“What? No, what made you ask that? We’ve only been dating for a couple of weeks,” Chloe sounded genuinely confused, and it spurred Beca on. “We’ve been on, like, six dates.”
“But is that something you could see yourself doing? With him, I mean.”
“I… I don’t know. I don’t really know him, I hadn’t thought about it. Why?”
Beca swallowed again.
It was now or never.
“Chloe, I… fuck, this is… look, this is hard, okay. I’m not good at this.”
“Bec, you’re kinda freaking me out,” Chloe said. She sat up and switched on the lamp on her nightstand.
Beca felt instantly exposed and vulnerable - way too vulnerable - and she was up and off the bed in seconds.
“Beca-”
“Just… just give me a second,” Beca said, her heart beating uncomfortably.
She could feel tears building in her eyes and, at that exact moment, they heard the sound of keys in the door before Amy walked in.
“Funny story,” she said, shutting the door and walking further into the room. “Turns out it’s next week that I’m staying-”
She stopped abruptly, realising she had stepped into some kind of emotional minefield.
“Uh oh,” she said. “Beca when I said you should tell her I didn’t mean toni-”
“Nope!” Beca said, loudly cutting her off before walking into the bathroom and locking the door behind her.
Okay, so this wasn’t exactly going to plan.
She had locked herself in the bathroom and was maybe on the verge of a panic attack.
Not an ideal situation.
“Beca,” Chloe said, knocking on the door. “Come on, you can’t stay in there forever.”
I can try, Beca thought.
When Beca didn't respond, or give any indication that she would come out of the bathroom anytime soon, Chloe turned to Amy with a huff of frustration.
“What just happened?”
“So… she didn’t tell you anything?”
“No! I think she was about to tell me something and then…” Chloe trailed off with a shrug. “I don’t know. Something freaked her out and then you showed up.”
“Look this is really not something I should - or want to - be involved in,” Amy said. “So I’m just gonna…” She jerked a thumb towards her bedroom. Amy made a hasty retreat and Chloe returned to the bathroom door.
“Beca, please,” Chloe said. “Look, even if you don’t wanna talk to me, can you just unlock the door so I can go pee. I’ve had like a full bottle of wine tonight and you know how small my bladder is.”
She heard the lock slide and Beca opened the door.
Chloe could see tears in her eyes despite the fact that Beca was doing everything in her power to avoid looking at her.
“Thank you,” Chloe said, as Beca moved aside to let her in.
It hadn’t been a lie, Chloe really did need to pee, so after she closed the door behind her, Beca sat down on the bed and let her head drop into her hands.
It’s probably for the best, she thought. It would ruin everything.
The light from the lamp had had the same sobering effect of daylight.
It reminded her of all the reasons she hadn’t told Chloe how she felt, and why she shouldn’t tell her now.
Any fantasies she could conjure up during the night were always chased away by the day.
While Chloe was stroking her hair in the moonlight, it was easy to imagine that they could be together, but those hopes were always replaced with facts the next day. And the same thing was happening now.
Beca felt something hard lodge itself in her chest as she came to a realisation.
She couldn’t keep doing this.
She’d have to start looking for a new place.
When she heard the toilet flush and the sound of running water she quickly wiped her eyes.
She didn’t look at Chloe when she came out, and kept her eyes fixed on her clasped hands in front of her.
“Are you gonna tell me what’s going on?”
“No,” Beca said. “It’s… it’s nothing. It was dumb. Can we just go to sleep?”
“Sure,” Chloe said with a sigh.
Beca didn’t get into bed until the light was off and then she lay with her back to Chloe.
“Night Bec.”
Beca swallowed again, hoping her voice was steady. “Night.”
Beca’s phone then lit up on her bedside table.
Amy: omg tell her or I will!!!
Beca read it, smiled briefly, and then locked her phone.
She didn’t say anything else, but after a few minutes of silence, Chloe rolled over and wrapped her arm around Beca’s middle. Her other hand started stroking through her hair.
“You get a headache when you cry,” she said softly, answering the question Beca hadn’t asked.
Something broke inside Beca, and she knew she couldn’t keep it in any longer.
“I’m in love with you Chloe.”
Chloe’s hand stilled and Beca’s heart seemed to stop beating.
The silence stretched on, and Beca had to fight every urge to run.
And then Chloe’s arm tightened around Beca’s waist, and she pulled her closer.
“What took you so long?”
Beca laughed and turned around to face her. Their faces were inches apart now, and Beca could see the tears building in Chloe’s eyes.
“I was scared,” she said, her voice breaking. “I was so fucking scared. I didn’t want to lose you.”
“You could never lose me,” Chloe replied. “You will never lose me. I promise.”
Her eyes traveled over Beca’s face, flicking between her eyes, looking for doubt or regret. She didn’t see either. She saw love and adoration. She saw vulnerability, hope, and a tiny fraction of fear.
“I’m in love with you too, Bec.”
And then the fear was gone from her eyes and her face broke into a grin.
“Yeah?” Beca asked, letting out a tearful laugh.
“Yeah,” Chloe replied.
“Can I kiss you?”
Chloe nodded, and their lips met a second later.
Tomorrow, in the cold light of day, Chloe would tell Chicago she didn’t think they should see each other anymore. Tomorrow, she would ask Beca on a date and if it went well - which she knew it would - she would ask her to be her girlfriend.
Tomorrow, when the sun was up, she would repeat these things they’d said to each other in the moonlight.
She’d tell Beca she loved her.
She’d tell Beca she’d always loved her.
And Beca would say it back. A thousand times. In a thousand different ways.
WARNING: This post will ruin you. Like Medusa; look at your peril.
But here is is. It’s the one you’ve all been waiting for.
Kirk bod appreciation #7: The RIDICULOUSLY BEAUTIFUL FACE. A highly technical and academic review.
This is a rather nebulous one. And not, on the face of it (pardon the pun) very philosophical, as it’s essentially about Kirk being stupidly pretty. This post probably will (it will) descend into just screaming and sobbing, but there will be, I promise, *some* meaningful insight into the meaning of ‘beauty’ and textual analysis of its role herein.
Beauty is subjective. But look at him. It’s not just being aesthetic, but it’s the *way* he’s aesthetic. Here I might repeat myself a bit, but stay with me. I may have mentioned before once hearing him described as ‘beautiful in the way women are often described as beautiful’. He is PRETTY. He is indeed often conveyed in the way the women stereotypically (not necessarily rightly) are on screen: perfect, smooth skin; soft, big eyes; luscious lips (his body is sensually curvaceous and furthermore it’s emphasised). He’s not androgynous though. He’s masculine. And yet I still sense what was meant in describing him as ‘beautiful in the way women are often described as beautiful’. He is a rather uncommon form of gender fuckery. He is a form of stereotype-subversion not commonly acknowledged. He seems to be everything at once, ALL THE GENDER; combines whichever traits he desires from those categories, and yet is undeniably a man and masculine whatever the ingredients. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE, one might wonder. The fact of the matter is, that it IS. And it teaches us something.
Tumblr media
The FUCK. nO. You are not allowed to be that pretty, and you are NOT allowed to look at her like that. We’re trying to have a SENSIBLE DISCUSSION here.
Sorry, that was a non-sequitur / nothing to do with what we learn by Kirk’s embodiment; I was just ambushed by my own gif. Only the control of a Vulcan. ONLY that could possibly withstand this onslaught. And even that won’t hold up forever AS WE WELL KNOW
God.
This is going well, as you can tell.
OK. So, it’s claimed he has Eyes and Stupidly Long Weakness-Inducing Eyelashes. You know, from all that fanfic that goes on about ‘big, sparkling eyes’ and him fanning his ‘long, copper eyelashes’. I mean, yeah right, tropey mc tropeface -
Tumblr media
IT’S TRUE. HE IS LITERALLY AN ANIME PRINCESS.
There are some moments where he just BLINKS and, how to describe it...how does a BLINK have that effect. It’s NOT ALLOWED.
...I’m sorry. It IS allowed. All of it. I am not shaming you your beauty. Never change, Jim. Never.
OK. I’m ok. 3 pics down, we can get through this -
Tumblr media
Oh you are joking. Stop.
I don’t understand how anyone can be so beautiful. Life is a lie. Reality is fake -
Tumblr media
- you did NOT just turn your big anime eyes on Spock. You do know this is why he ran away to PURGE ALL HIS EMOTIONS?
And for that matter, you know when Kirk looks his most beautiful? Literally WHEN HE’S LOOKING AT SPOCK. Spock talks some bollocks and Kirk just sparkles like a fucking angel:
Tumblr media
Unbelievable. But utterly undeniable.
Sigh. Moving on.
Oh - someone once suggested I talk about The Lips. Lips are so wonderful aren’t they. So many wonderful things they can do.
And Kirk’s. They’re there in every picture: perfect, rosy, soft and madness-inducing. My advice is just...don’t think about them. But since I’ve been asked to draw attention to them, well, you’ve just sealed your fate. Scroll down at your peril.
Tumblr media
I WARNED YOU.
I am pulling NO punches.
Tumblr media
I’ve seen this great meme going around:
Tumblr media
Excuse me though....CUTE?
That’s the understatement of the 23rd century.
Try impossibly beautiful, mind and body: heart of solid gold, soul deep in love with you. Those eyes and all their passion burned into your memories a thousand times over, along with - maybe, suggestibly, idk I’m extrapolating from all the goddamn tension - even the one unforgettable time he laid between lily-white sheets and gave himself to you; every gift of the mind, body and soul - and your ostensibly-forced Vulcan conditioning, that completely ignored how incompatible one part of you was with it, caused so much dissonance that you thought the only possible course of action for you both to survive was to BREAK UP, tear yourself from this beauty and love and sweetness to PURGE ALL EMOTIONS because nothing, nothing equipped you for this; you were set up specifically to fail, and fail hard in the face of transcendental love and beauty by those who rejected such things and didn’t understand you and could never imagine this for you and who instead of helping your beautiful neurodivergent brain flourish taught you to repress and caused you pain and shame and Gol was so hard and Kirk was so sad, so very sad and depressed and hurt and yet he couldn’t stop loving you with a bond so strong he called to you across the stars and Gol was all for naught yet you still didn’t know how to live like this, it was torture, torture until the mind meld with the living machine flashed your BIOS and you knew, love.exe was suddenly running with no errors and he came after you and held you and you held hands and, and -
.
*sobbing*
.
just...give me a moment
.
YOU WONDER WHAT THE SUBTEXT (FRIKKIN’ MAIN TEXT) OF STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE WAS ALL ABOUT???
The pain?? The angst?? The two logical entities seeking contact, love, THIS SIMPLE FEELING? That fucking moment when spock walks on the bridge and the only way he can control himself is to be SUPER Vulcan, while his love gazes at him with those EYES, fucking huge and glittering and hurt and loving?? Is it so much a mystery what memories these two are carrying, what’s behind the searing tension???????
Tumblr media
Love him. Love him Spock. Take him in your arms and love him. He’s for you. All for you. Fucking hell guys. The fuck. This movie.
.
ok.
ok I can do this
Tumblr media
CAN U NOT
those damn eyes I swear
Tumblr media
It’s obviously not all just superficial physical beauty. What IS beauty? Narratively we do sometimes find this ‘prettiness’ enhanced and emphasized like the old vaseline lens to set the tone of a scene (he’s vulnerable and delicate, or someone’s indeed in love with him so we see their ‘lens’ on him); but it is somewhat intangible and nebulous and changeable. I don’t think aesthetic beauty, if one deems it so, on its own, would be enough for the likes of Spock (indeed, no woman could charm him thusly); it's about something deeper. It’s about who he is. Who he is inside: the beautiful AND the imperfect. How his good and bad - how his ‘all’ -  chimes with Spock’s 'all’. The Enemy Within deals with this, and shows how Spock loves all of Kirk, wants him complete, with both his light and shadow. The beauty of all of us is this totality and variance, not one intangible quality.
I’ll bet Spock’s parents knew immediately. Can you imagine Sarek trying to be a total bitch over Kirk, having heard the rumours and just wanting to have one more thing to reject Spock over, immediately projecting onto Kirk as some blow-up pretty-boy and how Incredibly More Disappointing My Son Is for being Obviously In Love With Stupid Illogical Human Doll Face Bubble Butt Bimbo Captain, and Amanda’s like, stfu, let me remind you Kirk is actually a Fucking Amazing Highly Decorated Starship Captain who Saves Your Life and don’t you DARE resent him just because he’s got tits/ass/tum/lips that won’t quit and is obviously the freakin’ sun Spock orbits. Mr ‘I married a human but that was special because it was logical’ or some bullshit. How is Kirk an illogical choice? I mean literally, Spock is a Science Genius™ on the federation’s FLAGSHIP whose well-matched Genius Captain™ understands him, accepts him, brings the best out of him, helps him fulfil his whole potential and is in love with him in the deepest and purest way and will be his bonded soulmate for ALL OF TIME and that fucking sour-faced bih at the start of that ep, ffs.
Of course Amanda stays in touch with Kirk, adores the fuck out of him, sends him old Vulcan lit on t’hy’la bonds (yes sarek, a T’HY’LA bond, so revered freakin’ poets write about it) etc because frankly her son could do FAR FUCKING WORSE.
Tumblr media
FAR. FUCKING. WORSE.
Don’t...just don’t slip the bod into the equation, the face is enough for one post. We’re all in therapy for this already, let’s not relapse.
Oh, what’s the use. I’m gonna die. This is it. This is like the Monty Python joke that is so funny it kills you. This man is lethal. I need to stop this thread and purge all my emotions
That’s it. I’m dead. You’re dead. We’re all dead.
I hope, however, seeing this post was worth it. See you at Gol everyone.
Relations 2.0
So guys, this is kinda an alternative to Relations I posted yesterday. This time with a Rogers! Reader. I hope you enjoy.
Pairing: Bucky x reader
Warnings: angst, kidnapping, violence, trauma, nightmares, PTSD, unprotected smut, alzheimers, kinda AU
Words: 3702
"How is she today?" you asked your cousin.
"Not much changed. I'm just happy she remembers us." She answered.
"Did she tell you something new?"
"No, not really. You want to go in now?"
"Yes, I don't know but it always makes me happy to see her. No matter what state she's in." You smiled at her.
Peggy was your fathers mother and you loved her. She had taught you and Sharon how to be brave and independent women.
"Hello grandma. How are you doing today?" You sat down next to her.
"Oh, how nice of you to visit me, my dear." She smiled at you. "I slept very well. How was your day?" Peggy might have an illness which ate away at her memories but she was the most courteous person on the planet.
“Oh, you know just as always. S.H.I.E.L.D is definitely keeping me on my feet.” you smiled at her.
“Yes, yes, I can imagine.” she took your hand.
You talked a bit more and listened to stories you had heard a 1000 times before but still enjoyed seeing your grandma so happy.
Then your phone rang.
“Agent Carter? We need you at the facility immediately.”
“I’ll be right there.” you answered.
“Grandma, I’m sorry I gotta go. Duty calls. I'll come back as soon as I can, I promise.” you kissed her on the forehead before you left.
“Good that you are here. We have found something incredible way up north embedded in ice.” Agent Coulson told you and handed you a file.
When you opened it up and saw the pictures you gasped loudly and had the urge to sit down.
The photographs showed your grandfather, frozen in uniform and with the shield. You recognized him immediately.
“Y/N are you alright?” Coulson asked.
The problem was that no one knew your family history. Peggy had kept quiet about her unplanned pregnancy and the whereabouts of the father. She had gotten married while still pregnant and in those times no one questioned that the baby was way early.
“Yes, no, I mean… I don’t know. I can’t believe you found him. Now the nation can finally bury their fallen hero.” you mumbled.
“Oh, you must have misunderstood. Captain Rogers isn’t dead. He’s in recovery.” Coulson explained.
“What? How is that possible?”
“Well the ice must have preserved him and the serum in his veins kept him alive.”
Not even a second later rang Coulson’s phone. An Agent called from Times Square. Steve Rogers had woken up and figured out that something was not right so he escaped the room where he was supposed to recover.
“I need to talk to him. I think I will be able to calm him. This must be awful for him.” you begged Coulson.
“Alright, let’s go. Times Square is just around the corner.” you jumped into your car and drove speeding down the streets of New York.
When you arrived Director Fury had already kinda calmed Steve so you walked over to him.
Nick Fury was the only person in the world outside your family who knew your family's secret. So he didn’t hesitate to let you through.
“Captain Rogers? Would you care to come with me? I'd like to explain everything to you.” you smiled at him.
“Peggy? he asked, astonished. You had never seen too much resemblance between your grandma and yourself but apparently Steve saw it.
“Close. But no. MY name is Y/N Carter. I’m her granddaughter. We have a lot of catching up to do. Want to join me?” he just nodded and followed you.
You drove in silence with about 5 bulletproof dark SUVs following you at close range.
You stopped in front of a S.H.I.E.L.D office and walked inside.
When you closed the door to your office behind you and him the reality of it all finally started to seep into your bones and you started shaking.
He noticed immediately and stepped closer. Ever the gentleman of the 40’s that he was, he asked if you were okay.
“Well there is so much I want to tell you. Actually, I have since I was a child. And I never thought I’d ever get the chance to nor did I think it was my place to tell you. But…” you kept rambling.
“What are you talking about?” he looked confused.
“Okay, here we go. All or nothing.” you mumbled to yourself.
“Peggy is my grandmother, and you are my grandfather.” you finished quietly.
“Excuse me?” he thought he might have misheard you.
“Just after you supposedly died Grandma Peggy found out that she was pregnant. She always said it was a drunken night after Sergeant Barnes died? It’s a secret which almost no one outside of the family knows. I would have let Peggy tell you herself but she has alzheimers and a lot of the time she is not really there anymore.” you explained to him.
“Peggy is still alive? I need to see her.” he picked up on your story.
“But first I’d like to hug my granddaughter if that’s alright by you.” he grinned.
“Ehm, yes sure.” you outstretched your arms and he embraced you. You had never felt so safe in anyone's arms before.
Before anyone could argue with you you had taken Steve to see Peggy in her retirement facility.
“Steve? You’re alive?” she asked in disbelief when she spotted him by her bed. He grinned and bent down to kiss her on the forehead.
“Yes, my love. And I missed you so much. How is my girl today?” he asked her.
“I was never better. Y/N come here darling. Meet your grandfather sweetie.” she spoke slowly in that posh british accent of hers.
“I already have nana and he is just as amazing as you have always told me.” you said while tears were forming in your eyes.
After that conversation you left them alone for a while to talk.
The next few weeks no day passed without you spending time with Steve. Unfortunately you had no contact with your mom or dad anymore. They didn’t want anything to do with you anymore after you had decided on your S.H.I.E.L.D career path.
That had been years ago and you weren’t sad anymore but now you would have wished, for Steve's sake, that he could meet his son.
Maybe someday your dad would be ready for this.
Somehow it came as it had to. People found out about your relation to Captain America and started to bother you immensely.
Then came the point on which it couldn't get any worse.
You came home after a long day of work and just wanted to relax in a bubble bath and then go to bed. But it came differently than you thought.
The moment you opened your door and turned around to shut it an arm closed around your throat and another grabbed for your holstered gun. Your assailant was too strong for you to overpower. You lost consciousness quickly.
When you awoke you were chained to a chair, gagged too.
And then you saw him. Sitting in a corner opposite you. Long dark hair, black mask and tac gear. His left arm was made of metal and wirred when he moved it.
When he noticed you had woken up he stood and walked over to you,
He didn’t say a word and you couldn’t. Otherwise you would have given him a piece of your mind.
You didn’t expect his next move. He took the gag from your mouth and pushed a bottle of water against your lips. You drank greedily because you hadn’t noticed your parched throat before.
“What do you want from me?” you asked after he had taken the bottle away.
“Leverage.” was all he said.
“Are you working for hydra?” you asked. You had had your suspicions for a long time that the agency had been operating from the underground.
He stayed silent and then you felt your mind slip. Of course something must have been in the water.
The next time you came to you heard voices around you but couldn’t focus at first.
When you finally could concentrate you recognized voices you had suspected of being evil before. Alexander Pierce and Brock Rumlow. Idiots! you thought.
“Ah, there she is. Did the soldier take good care of you?” Pierce mocked and you spat at him which earned you a nice backhand to the face from Rumlow.
“Now that we have that out of the way, let us proceed with our plan, shall we?.”
God, how much you hated that douchebag!
They took a video from you probably as leverage. Just as their soldier had told you. What they wanted to blackmail from S.H.I.E.L.D or Steve, you didn’t know.
After they had everything from you they brought you to a room which strongly resembled the cell in an asylum. Thick padded walls you couldn’t hurt yourself on, a small field bed with a blanket and a toilet with a sink in one corner behind a milky screen.
You banged against the walls and door at first to get any kind of attention but after receiving none you decided to leave it be and save your strength.
Hours later a doctor came into the room to take a blood sample from you but you wouldn’t have that so you fought against him until they brought the soldier in to hold you down. That was the first time you saw him after he kidnapped you. And this time he wasn’t wearing a mask. His face was expressionless and his hair was longer than on the pictures you had seen at the museum but the man standing in front of you was undeniably James Barnes. Your grandfather's best friend since childhood who you had believed was dead since 1943.
“Bucky?” you asked and he gave you a confused look. At first you doubted your eyes but you were so sure it was him. “What did you do to him? He is a good man!” you yelled at the doctor who just smiled at you maliciously.
Still struggling in Bucky’s hold the doc took a sample of your blood and they left but not before Bucky threw you one last thoughtful glance.
Days ticked by and nothing happened. You saw someone bring you food twice a day but that was about all the human contact you were given.
You couldn’t stop thinking about your granddad’s best pal being enslaved and obviously brainwashed for God knows how long. It made you so sad to think about his past. What he must have endured in hydra’s grasp.
Then one night suddenly the light in your room changed and you noticed the cause being that the door had been opened. You decided that that was your only chance and snuck out of the room. You tried to find orientation points in the weird and long hallways. But you noticed every time you didn’t know where to go, a door opened somewhere.
Just for a second you contemplated if this might have been a sick trap but you still followed it because, what did you have to lose?
When you stepped through the last door you heard someone call your name.
“Y/N! Over here!” Not 10 meters away from you stood Steve in full gear.
“Steve! Thank God you found me. Did you open all these doors?”
“Doors? What? No. I haven’t even been inside yet.” he looked at you as if you had lost your mind.
“Then who paved the way for me?” you thought out loud. Until it suddenly hit you. “Bucky!” you yelled.
“What? Are you alright? Bucky has been dead for decades.” Steve informed you.
“No you don’t understand. He is here. He must have been the one to help me. We have to find him.” you turned around and ran back inside faster than Steve could grab you.
“Y/N no!” he yelled and ran after you.
Suddenly you stopped dead in your tracks and Steve almost ran you over. 5 meters in front of you stood a dark figure, not moving a muscle.
“Bucky?” you called lowly.
Steve tensed up behind you. He too had recognized his old pal.
“Buck?” He whispered, shocked.
“Come on Bucky. We have to get out of here. And thank you for helping me.” you smiled and stretched your arm out.
He took the invitation and slowly walked towards you. Together you got out of the building and headed toward the pickup spot where the jet waited.
Bucky had still not said a word. While Steve flew the plane you sat down next to Bucky who seemed lost in thought. He didn’t notice you sliding into the seat next to him until you laid your hand on his thigh. “Buck? How do you feel?”
“Confused. I can’t believe that I am not under their control anymore.” he said.
“You are safe now. I promise we will take care of you. S.H.I.E.L.D will help you get back on your feet. You are a hero.”
“No, not S.H.I.E.L.D. They have been infiltrated by hydra. You saw Pierce and Rumlow. We can’t trust anyone.” he yelled, almost panicked.
“You are right. Steve, where are we headed?” you called out to your pilot for the moment.
“I was about to get us to Washington D.C.. S.H.I.E.L.D HQ. But now that I heard what you said I think it might be best to find a different place. So Y/N where to? Do you have a plan b?”
“In fact I do. Keep going, I'll send the coordinates right to you.” you ordered.
3 hours later you landed at a farm.
“Clint. It’s good to see you.” you said and wrapped the archer in a tight hug.
“How is the family?” you tried to make conversation.
“Good as always. So what’s the deal with this?” he asked back.
“Well, you know Captain Rogers and this is Sergeant James Barnes. It’s a long story but we need a place to lay low for a while that S.H.I.E.L.D doesn’t know about.”
“Ah, so you thought of me. Naturally. Alright, come on in, dinner should be ready soon and Laura always makes too much.”
Dinner had been great and now you were sitting on the porch with a glass of wine just relaxing and telling Clint everything. You trusted him with all your heart. Him, Natasha Romanoff and Nick Fury.
“So S.H.I.E.L.D is hydra now?” he asked, confused.
“Well yes but it seems hydra was always sleeping just under the surface waiting for the right moment to strike.” you clarified.
“So what do you intend to do next?” he asked again.
“Well, I have already sent an encrypted message to Nick Fury. He will know how to proceed from her on. Then we need to grab hydra by the roots and pull them out. If that doesn’t work we need all the help we can get to take down everything. S.H.I.E.L.D, hydra, all of it.” you described.
“Buck, what can you tell us about their plan?”
Bucky took a deep breath and started to recite everything that he knew or had gathered. Good thing that no one had actually thought to mind their words around him because they always thought he couldn’t do anything with that knowledge anyways.
“So they want to erase millions of people who do not follow their ideology? And they want to use helicarriers with active weapon systems?” you summarized Bucky’s information. “We have to stop this! But we need a solid plan. I suggest we wait for a message from Fury. He might know what to do.” you proposed.
“I agree. If we run in there unprepared people might die.” Steve approved.
So you had not much more to do than wait.
That evening you tried to fall asleep in the guest bedroom but that was almost impossible. You had listened to Steve leaving the house to go for a run about 30 minutes before. So he couldn’t sleep either.
Then, just before sleep invaded your mind you heard noises which sounded like whimpering so you got up quickly and walked downstairs, gun raised.
You found out fast that the noise came from a restlessly sleeping Bucky on the much too small couch.
Worried that he might be distressed and would fall back into his old habits you sat down next to the couch stroking hair out of his face. “Bucky? You’re okay. You’re safe now.” you whispered. He opened his eyes and looked at you.
You didn’t expect him to lean in close and brush his lips to yours.
He pulled back abruptly when he noticed you being completely taken by surprise. “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have done that.” he sat up and buried his face in his hands.
“No, it’s okay Bucky. I understand you. It wasn’t that I didn’t want it, I just wasn’t expecting that.” he looked up hesitantly.
“In fact I wouldn’t mind you doing it again.” you smiled at him mischievously.
Without saying another word he pulled you in again. You climbed into his lap all while never breaking the kiss. Until you had to come up for air.
“Wow, you really know how to do that.” you stated.
“Did you want to go further?” you asked him carefully.
“I wouldn’t mind. I just wanna feel something nice again.” he confessed before pulling you in for a kiss again.
You made out like that for a while, grinding on each other like some horny teenagers. Until his hand slipped into your panties stroking your mound and you started mewling like a kitten in heat.
Your hands fumbled clumsily with his boxers and he helped you push them down enough for his cock to spring free.
Pulling your panties to the side you sunk down on him. This time the sex was not about sensuality it was supposed to be quick comfort. The emotional crap could come later.
You rose onto your knees and dropped back onto his generous length.
“Fuck!” you breathed out. Burying your head in his shoulder so you wouldn’t wake anyone still sleeping.
You were so deeply immersed in your lovemaking you didn’t hear the door open.
“Really? On the couch? Seriously?” you almost jumped off of Bucky at the sound of your grandfather’s hushed voice.
“I’m sorry Steve.” Bucky whispered. And you could tell he was more than close so you kept rocking back and forth on his lap. Steve, noticing that you wouldn’t stop, just turned around and went upstairs with the words “I’ll sleep in your bed then.”
Once he was gone you were finally able to lose yourself in Bucky again.
It didn’t take long for him to reach his high and the moment you felt him shoot his load inside you you couldn’t hold on anymore and the knot burst.
You dropped onto the seat next to Bucky, catching your breath.
“Thank you for that.” he leaned his head back and tucked himself back into his pants.
“No need to thank me. I really like you Buck and I hope that this won’t be a one time thing.” you smiled at him hopefully.
“So do I, but I don’t know if I am good enough for you. I’ve done so much evil in my life. You deserve so much better.” Suddenly he looked so sad again.
“Hey. Look at me Bucky!” you ordered him, grabbing for his face. “What happened to you is not your fault. You were trapped in your own body and you deserve the world. Never think any less of yourself because of your past! You are the reason I am free now. You have saved Steve’s ass more than he probably knows. We love you Bucky and I mean that. You know that my grandma did not only talk a lot about Steve but about you too? You left such an impression on her that even now in her alzheimer ridden mind she still sometimes talks about you. What a gentleman you always were. Handsome, sweet and clever. And I could not dream of someone better than you.” You kissed him deeply with all the emotion you could muster and hoped he would understand.
“Are you sure?” his insecurities were killing you. Peggy had always mentioned the ladies man that he had been but that lay 70 years behind and it broke your heart to see him like this.
“100% sure darling. Now let’s try to catch at least a few more hours of sleep until sunrise.” another kiss later and you had cuddled together on the still too small couch. This time you fell asleep quickly and felt safe by his side.
Two days later Fury had gotten you a plan. Maria Hill would meet you in a sewer system at the edge of D.C. She handed you three computer chips to override the helicarriers weapon systems manually.
The people from hydra, working inside S.H.I.E.L.D did not expect this attack just when project inside was about to launch.
So when the helicarriers had come crashing down on D.C. and every single hydra agent had been taken in custody was it finally time to calm down and get everything in order.
Facing the facts Bucky still needed therapy and someone to look over his conditioning and the damage hydra had done to him. But you were sure to find someone with a solution somewhere. Until then you tried to get used to having a 100 something year old grandfather and his just as old best friend for a boyfriend.
You didn’t know where you were headed but you liked the thought of finding out.
This is my stucky fic idea. Basically after this dream of bucky’s, Steve has (coincidentally) started showing off his strength to him. One day, Bucky is horny and randomly asks Steve if he could bench press him. Steve’s gets cocky and replies by flexing before easily benching Bucky. After showing off, Steve lets Bucky feel his muscles, and then after a while he lifts him to the bed for smut. This isn’t dream, and is not yet an offical request. If you do accept, do you need me to post this again?
Well hello again! Here is my second Stucky request for this lovely Anon! I hope it’s to your liking. This is a part 2 to this 👉🏻Hidden Feelings. But it can be read as a stand alone. I did tweak this just a bit. But it’s still filled with Stucky goodness! This might be my last Stucky fic for a little while. I’m still not 100% comfortable writing them. But I couldn’t let this anon down! I hope it’s what you had in mind!
Ever since Bucky had that very erotic dream about Steve, he’s been avoiding him like the plague.
He had told himself it was just because he was horny. That he couldn’t want his best male friend in a sexual way. But that all got shot to hell when he decided to take home a girl he met in a bar the other night.
He had no problems getting going. He was actually enjoying himself as he bent Stacy? Stephany? Sylvia? over the back of his couch and was plowing into her from behind. Enjoying the little moans coming from her mouth. He had a tight grip on her hip with his metal hand and had the other buried between her legs.
He could feel her coming and normally that’s when he would let go as well. But he just couldn’t get there. He slowed down a little to let her come down from her high. But then picked right back up into his brutal pace when he felt her walls stop fluttering around him. He had better stamina than he thought.
He grabbed her hair and pulled her up so her back was to his front. She was moaning like a pornstar. Telling him to go faster and harder. He obliged. He moved his hand back down and started rubbing her clit again. This time she started moaning his name.
He opened his eyes and looked down at where they were connected. Even that wasn’t bringing him closer to the edge. He was starting to get frustrated with himself when he looked up and his gaze fell forward. That was a mistake.
Right there sitting on his tv stand were pictures. And of course there was one of him and Steve. Shit. Steve looked so fucking good in that picture. He and Bucky had their arms around each other. They had just run a marathon for charity.
Bucky couldn’t help but admire Steve’s arms in the picture. The way the veins were protruding out. He could tell Steve was flexing.
Bucky started fucking Samantha? even harder. He couldn’t help but let his gaze wander down Steve’s body. Once again he was wearing a shirt that didn’t fit him. Then Bucky’s gaze got to Steve’s crotch. He had never noticed the bulge in the picture before. He couldn’t stop the whimper that escaped his mouth. He started thinking about what that would feel like in his hand or better yet, his mouth.
As Bucky’s thoughts wandered to what Steve’s mouth would feel like on him, he came without warning. He just about moaned Steve’s name out loud. Thank god he was able to hold that back. Sally? didn’t even seem to notice his withdrawn state. He pulled out and tucked himself back into his pants and promised he’d call her as he rushed her out as politely as he could.
So that’s why he was currently hiding out in the communal library. He knew Steve spent a majority of his Saturdays either working out or planning missions. Bucky figured he was safe here. Boy was he wrong.
“Barnes!”
Bucky jumped at the sudden intrusion and looked up to see Nick Fury walking towards him.
“Sergeant Barnes. I hope you’re doing well this evening.” He doesn’t even give Bucky time to reply before he’s handing him over a file. “Could you see to it that Captain Rogers gets this immediately? It contains important information on his upcoming mission. I’d take it to him myself but I’m rather in a bind and have somewhere important I need to be.”
Bucky doesn’t say anything for a minute. He just looks from the file back to Fury’s face, trying to come up with an excuse as to why he can’t take the file to Steve.
He’s about to open his mouth when Fury cuts him off. “Look I know you and I got off on the wrong foot but this shouldn’t be a task you have to think this hard about. Aren’t you and Captain Rogers attached at the hip?”
Bucky was about to argue but then thought better. He goes to stand and grabs the file from Fury. “It’ll be no trouble, sir. I’ll see that Captain Rogers gets this right away.”
Fury nods his head in thanks. “I appreciate this Barnes. Thank you.” With that he turns to exit the other side of the library.
Bucky looks down at the file as if it’s offended him. Shit. Well he was going to have to face Steve sooner or later. Might as well be sooner. He looks up towards the ceiling.
“FRIDAY? Could you please tell me where Captain Rogers is?”
“Captain Rogers is in his living quarters. Would you like me to tell him you’re on your way?”
“That won’t be necessary. It’ll be a quick visit. Thank you.”
Bucky takes off towards the direction of Steve’s room. He hoped he wasn’t interrupting anything important. Maybe Steve was just relaxing? Taking a rest after a long week? Psh like he ever rests. He’s probably filling out mission reports. He’s such a nerd.
Bucky gets to his door and takes a couple deep breaths before knocking. Preparing for when he’ll see Steve’s handsome face.
When he thinks he’s ready, Bucky knocks.
He doesn’t have to wait very long before Steve answers the door.
Steve who wasn’t wearing a shirt.
Steve whose shorts were so low on his hips that Bucky could see that perfect V practically directing him towards his cock.
Steve who was all sweaty from a workout Bucky had apparently interrupted.
Steve who had no idea how hard he had just made his best friend.
Fuck.
Steve smiles at his best friend. “Hey, Buck! To what do I owe the pleasure?”
Bucky’s brain has short circuited. He can’t seem to take his eyes off of Steve’s chest.
Steve notices where Bucky’s eyes are trained. He can’t help but smirk and start flexing a little. “You like what you see?”
Bucky snaps out of it and raises his gaze to Steve’s face. “Sorry, man. It’s just. Are you getting bigger? Hitting the gym even more?” Bucky hoped that poor excuse would suffice as to why he was ogling his half naked best friend.
Steve’s smirk turns cocky. “Yeah actually I have. Trying to buff up a little bit. You know, impress the ladies.”
Bucky couldn’t help the roll of his eyes. “Yeah, like you have trouble with the ladies. You hook up with what? 3-4 a week?” He makes his way inside and can’t help but notice the small gym that has taken up residence in Steve’s living room.
Steve heads over to grab a water bottle from the fridge. “Well, usually. I actually haven’t hooked up with anyone for a few weeks now.” He heads back over to stand in front of Bucky. He glances down and notices the file in his hand. “Is that for me?”
Bucky follows Steve’s gaze down to the file he’s still holding. He had forgotten all about it. He hands it over to Steve. “Yeah, this is from Fury. He said it was for your upcoming mission.”
Steve takes the file and sets it on his coffee table. “Thanks, man. How did you end up with it?”
Bucky shrugs. “I was in the library when I ran into him. He asked me to bring it to you. So here I am. Looks like I interrupted your workout though. Sorry. Why aren’t you working out in the gym?”
Bucky notices the blush that creeps up on Steve’s face. “Um, well. I got banned from the gym for a few weeks by Tony.”
Bucky chuckles and crosses his arms. “What the hell did you do, punk?”
Steve rolls his eyes at the nickname. “Well it was when I was sparring with Sam and a group of girls were watching us. I’ll admit I was showing off a bit and not paying attention and accidentally knocked over a row of treadmills. So i’m not allowed back in until I learn, as Tony put it, ‘Proper Gym Etiquette’ or some bullshit like that.”
Bucky starts laughing and looks around the makeshift gym. “Oh, yeah. That was hilarious! Definitely made me stop my workout because I was laughing so damn hard. Well looks like you don’t even need the gym. You have everything you could need right here.”
Steve shakes his head. “Not everything. I don’t have a bench press. Which sucks because that’s a part of my normal routine.”
Bucky’s next words fly out of his mouth faster than what his brain can process. “You could bench me if you want.”
Steve raises a curious eyebrow at Bucky. “What? Buck I can lift a hell of a lot more than what you weigh.” He flexes his biceps at Bucky, making the veins in his arms protrude out.
Bucky feels his cock twitch in his pants. Shit. “Yeah, but it would be better than nothing right?”
Steve pretends not to notice Bucky’s growing bulge and shrugs. “I guess you’re right. You wouldn’t mind?”
Bucky shakes his head. “Nope. Anything to help you out, punk.”
Steve chuckles and lays down on the mat he had stolen from the gym. “Alright then. I guess you can lean back into my hands? I’ll hold you between your shoulder blades and your upper left thigh?”
Bucky can’t help the shiver that wracks his body. “Um, yep. That’ll work.”
He knows his erection is now straining against his shorts. He’s hoping to whatever god is listening that Steve won’t notice.
Oh, Steve notices.
He can’t help the twitch he feels his own cock make. This is why he hasn’t been hooking up with anybody lately. He’s been having some not so friendly thoughts about his best friend recently. He’s been doing his best to keep them hidden. There’s no way Bucky would reciprocate them, right?
That’s why he’s been showing off in the gym more. Not for the girls. He’s been seeing if he can get a rise out of Bucky. He knows he’s looked like a douche what with all the flexing and wearing shirts that don’t fit him. And judging from the bulge in Bucky’s shorts, it’s working.
Bucky clears his throat to get Steve’s attention. “Ready?”
Steve holds his hands up and nods his head. Bucky leans back onto them. Steve readjusts his grip, making sure he won’t drop Bucky.
Bucky is trying his best not to let out a whimper. This is so much better than his dream. Steve’s hands on him feel like heaven. And when Steve starts to lift him? Bucky almost came right then and there.
Steve notices the shivers going down Bucky’s spine. He decides to turn it up a notch. He starts grunting unnecessarily every time he lifts Bucky up. He hears the little whimper escape Bucky’s mouth. That little noise goes straight to Steve’s cock. Which is now uncomfortably straining against his shorts.
“Um, okay Buck. I’m done.” He puts Bucky back down as gently as he can.
Bucky turns around and looks down at Steve confused. Only to then notice Steve’s eyes are trained on his erection. Steve quickly stands up, not even trying to hide the fact that he’s hard as well. Bucky can’t help but notice it. Jesus. Maybe Steve does feel the same way.
Steve can’t help but start flexing again. Loving the effect he’s having on Bucky.
Bucky’s eyes travel up over Steve’s body again. His bottom lip between his teeth as he watches his muscles become more prominent.
Steve decides to make a move. “You can touch them if you want.”
Bucky doesn’t need to be told twice. He runs his right hand over Steve’s bicep, earning him a moan from the blonde super soldier. He then moves his hand over to his pec and gives a nice squeeze. “Fuck, Bucky. You’re driving me crazy here.”
Bucky smirks and trails his hands down his abs. He reaches the waistband of Steve’s shorts and looks back up at him.
The heat between them is stifling.
Bucky raises his eyebrows as if daring Steve to make the first move.
Fuck it.
Steve grabs Bucky by the back of the neck and pulls him in for a bruising kiss. Bucky reacts quickly and grabs onto Steve’s bicep and gives another squeeze. Steve groans and grinds his cock against Bucky’s, desperate for some friction. Bucky pulls Steve closer and grinds back against him.
Steve can’t take it anymore. He pulls out of the kiss and lifts Bucky up and throws him onto his nearby bed. Steve takes just a second to admire the beautiful man in his bed. Lips red and swollen from his kissing. Cheeks and chest flushed. Chest rapidly rising and falling with every breath. And a beautiful erection begging to be let free.
Steve growls and quickly climbs on the bed next to Bucky until he’s laying beside him. He pulls Bucky back in for another kiss. He pulls away again after a few minutes. “Please, Buck. Tell me you want this just as much as I do?”
Bucky smirks as he grabs Steve’s hand and places it on his clothed erection. “Does that feel like I want it, Steve?”
Steve moans and pulls Bucky back in for a kiss. He removes his hand from Bucky’s bulge and starts attempting to tug his shorts down. Bucky smirks and helps Steve out, successfully pushing his shorts down enough to free his cock. Steve then reaches for the hem of Bucky’s shirt and lifts it over his head.
Steve can’t help but marvel at him for a second. He’s never been intimate with a guy before but dammit if Bucky wasn’t beautiful. More so than the women he’s been with. And his cock? Steve couldn’t wait to get his hands on the girthy length of him.
This time it’s Bucky’s turn to ask. “You like what you see?”
Steve smirks and reaches out to grab a hold of the beautiful cock. “Oh, yeah. You get this hard just for me?”
Bucky rests his forehead on Steve’s shoulder and lets out a moan. “Only get this hard for you, Stevie.”
Steve adjusts his grip just a little tighter and starts slowly jerking Bucky off. Bucky can’t help but bite down on Steve’s shoulder to stifle his moaning. Steve isn’t having that. “Don’t hide from me. I want to hear how good I’m making you feel. Come on handsome, let me hear you”
Bucky raises his head off of Steve’s shoulder. He grabs the back of Steve’s head with his metal hand and pulls him back in for a kiss. Steve starts pumping Bucky’s cock even faster. Bucky doesn’t want Steve to have all the fun. He starts pulling at Steve’s shorts, signaling he wants them off.
Steve removes himself from Bucky for a moment to stand up and remove his shorts. Bucky can’t help the whine that escapes him as he watches Steve’s cock smack against his abdomen. Long, thick, and just absolutely perfect. A cocky smirk appears on Steve’s face. He’s glad Bucky is impressed.
He climbs back on the bed and resumes kissing Bucky and once again grabbing his cock. This time Bucky reciprocates and grabs Steve’s cock, earning him a loud moan. “Fuck, Bucky. Just like that.”
Bucky pumps his fist at a rapid pace. He’s been close to coming ever since Steve bench pressed him. He wants to get Steve there. “Bucky if you don’t slow down, I’m going to bust a nut like some teenager.”
Bucky smirks and grabs the back of Steve’s head with his metal hand and leans in to whisper, “I want you to come for me. All over me. Make a mess, Stevie.”
Steve groans and starts moving his fist to match Bucky’s pace, now wanting them to come at the same time. Bucky moans and loses himself in the feeling of Steve’s hand wrapped around him. He comes with a shout and makes a big mess on Steve’s abdomen.
The feel of Bucky’s cum hitting his body is what does Steve in. He makes an equally big mess all over Bucky’s abdomen and chest. Steve removes his hand from Bucky’s softening cock and places it on Bucky’s hip to pull him in even closer. Steve gives Bucky a big, dopey smile. “That’s the fastest anyone has ever made me come. You must have the magic touch.”
Bucky moves his hand to Steve’s ass and gives a squeeze. “Sorry about that. Got a little carried away. I couldn’t really help myself. I’ve never felt like this before.”
Steve cups Bucky’s cheek and makes him look him in the eye. “Neither have I. This is new for both of us. I’m glad it’s with you, though.”
Bucky smiles at Steve. “Yeah? You okay going from best friends to”...he gestures down their naked bodies... “whatever this is?”
Steve pulls Bucky in for a kiss. He pulls back and touches his forehead to Bucky’s. “Well I want more than sex but I’ll take what I can get. If sex is all you want, then I’ll take it.”
Bucky chuckles at him. “Well sounds like we want the same things, punk. And don’t worry, we can keep it just between us if you’d like.”
Steve furrows his brows in confusion. “Why would I want to keep this just between us? Are you...are you ashamed of us?”
Bucky quickly shakes his head. “No! Of course not! I just assumed you wouldn’t want people to know since you’ve always been with women and you’re Captain America.”
Steve cups Bucky’s cheek again. “The thought of being with you makes me happy. And I want to show you off and how happy you make me. If my friends can’t get over that then fuck ‘em. They aren’t my real friends. As for my fans? The real ones will support me.”
Bucky can’t help the tear that falls from his eye. Steve wipes it away with his thumb. “You make me happy, too. Please know that. I’ve wanted this for longer than I’m willing to admit. I’m...I think I’m in love with you, Steve.
Steve smiles and goes to pull Bucky in for another kiss. Just before their lips touch he utters out, “I love you too, jerk.”
The Captain’s Cabin Part 1 (again)
It’s been ages, but @everything-person sent a kind ask about a broken link! I have a sneaky feeling tumblr didn’t like my shirtless edit of our fair Killian that I originally uploaded with the fic. There is ALMOST CERTAINLY a better way to do this, and maybe i’ll get the energy to go fix the links in the old posts, but in the meantime here’s a re-upload of chapter one! reminder that it’s also on ao3. check my “jess writes cs” tag for the rest.
“The Captain’s Cabin?”
Emma squinted up at the sign, covering her eyes to keep the morning light from turning her blind. It was a ridiculous name, if she said so herself. (Never mind that this was their first day in town, and she’d been the one to choose the place.)
“I don’t know about this,” she said, sliding her eyes back to the blonde girl at her side. “We could just get back in the car and find a nice, motel-side Arby’s.”
“We just spent five hours in the car, not counting the five minutes it took to find that parking spot, Emma,” Elsa whined, “If I don’t get to eat whatever it is I’m smelling right now, I think I might cry.”
Emma ceded, but only because the smell of fried seafood was calling to her too.
The two of them stepped out of the misty morning and into the little dockside restaurant, Emma shaking her hair out of her hooded anorak jacket and Elsa flinging her braid back over her shoulder. The lunch crowd was still milling about, mostly older citizens and young parents, and the two were only too happy to take their time finding seats. The walls were stained dark, as if the warm drizzle outside had penetrated the wood, and covered in weather-worn treasures that undoubtedly came from the nearby sea. One side of the small building stood on ground level, but the other seemed to stretch out toward the water. It was nice, Emma had to admit, nicer than the dorky sign on the front had led on.
The two of them chose seats at the end of the long bar, despite all earlier protests about sitting for any prolonged periods (ever again, Elsa had promised, one foot up on the dashboard and the other hanging out the passenger window.) Elsa busied herself tracing the faces of old sailors and fisherman pictured on the walls, while Emma watched the tide coming in.
It hardly looked pleasant out, but she was certain those little black blobs in the distance were boats. She ran her hand over the windowpane to get a clearer view and squinted again, trying to figure out exactly what kind of vessels had caught her attention.
“Can I help the both of you?”
Emma swiveled on the little barstool and found herself eye-level with a toothy, if welcoming, grin. The man was standing on the other side of the bar, his black shirt emblazoned with the same logo from the sign outside the restaurant. She had no idea how he snuck up on her like that, but Elsa answered him before she could voice her question back.
“You definitely can. We’ve been in the car for far too long, and we need food.”
“I’ll have to see if we’ve got any laying around, then,” he said with a bit of a laugh, seeming to relax into his smile as he regarded Emma more thoroughly. "Where are you traveling from?”
“Boston,” the both of them answered, tiredness coming through in Emma’s voice and restlessness coming through in Elsa’s.
He clicked his tongue and handed both of them menus, leaning a hip against the bar as he played with one of the bottles on the counter top. “Quite a long ways away, but at least you chose a beautiful day to come up. It’s not always this nice out.”
“You call this nice?” Emma chuckled, wrinkling her nose as she nodded toward the window. “It’s about to rain.” “On the contrary, lass. I’d reckon the sun’ll be out before you’ve finished your meal.” His smile was challenging her now, as if he was about to reach out into the air and ask her to shake on it.
“Speaking of,” Elsa said, swiveling her menu toward him and pointing at a dish. “Can I get this with curly fries?”
“There’s no way,” Emma said, shaking her head at the man. He was leaned over the counter, arms folded out in front of him. She thought she could see the beginnings of a tattoo on the inside of his arm but refused to inspect any further, knowing his eyes had been following her a little too closely already.
“Ah, but there is,” he sang out. “When you’ve lived here as long as I, you tend to get accustomed to the signs.”
"Nobody’s that good,” She pressed, crossing her arms in front of her. He’d been keeping them (well, keeping her,if Elsa’s less-than-subtle looks meant anything) company ever since they’d ordered a meal, and since then she’d come to know quite a bit about him. His name was Killian Jones, and it didn’t sound like an American name because it wasn’t. He and his brother had come over from the United Kingdom a few years ago and started up business here. They had a sailboat, of all things, moored out at the end of the restaurant’s dock, and that apparently gave him the ability to predict the weather. “You have to have checked an app, or something.”
He shook his head again, eyes sparkling as they regarded her. “I could show you, if you’d like,” he said, a bit of extra something in his voice as he made the offer. “Liam’s not quite done with your orders yet, and it won’t take long.”
Emma gave him a challenging look of her own, then, wondering just how many tourists got an invite out onto his sailboat while their meals were made ready. On the other hand, though, her legs weren’t nearly stretched enough after driving for so long, and she did like the idea of standing again.
“Oh, go do it,” Elsa said, tearing her straw wrapper into tiny little squares atop the bar. “I’ll wait here for when the food gets out.”
“See? She’ll wait here, for when the food gets out,” Killian said, sweeping his arm out toward Elsa and raising his brow at Emma. “Come on, Swan, don’t make a man beg.”
Again, Emma relented, but only because she would never hear the end of it from Elsa if she acted like going with him was a big deal.
“What made you pick Maine, of all places?”
They were both leaned against the rail of his sailboat (which was more than a little impressive, Emma grudgingly admitted. With something like this at her disposal, she’d probably spend a few cloudy days on the water, too) and watching the little town ferry pick up passengers from the neighboring dock. It’d made three trips since they came outside,  passengers snapping pictures and laughing at the sea spray when they passed over particularly large curls of wake.
“I could ask you the same,” he countered, twisting his neck to regard her. She didn’t remember him coming to stand so close, exactly, but then the past twenty minutes had gone by without her thinking of a single excuse to run back to Elsa. (It definitely had nothing to do with the way he seemed to talk about the sea like it was his first love, that was certain.)
“It’s different,” she told him with a small laugh. “We’re not moving in.”
“We didn’t think we were either, to be honest. Liam and I had plans to sail up and down the coast, to pack up every time we thought we were getting too rooted down.”
“Guess that worked out for the two of you,” Emma countered, nodding back toward the restaurant. “Big change of plans?”
“You could say that.” His smile turned wistful then, almost dreamlike, and Emma found herself watching him as he turned his eyes back to the sea. She couldn’t tell if it was the way the sun was now warming their faces or simply the way he was born, but the ocean seemed pooled right there in his eyes, too. He turned to her then, catching her off guard once more with his closeness. “I’ll wager your food’s waiting for you now, love.”
Surprisingly reluctant to leave the peaceful, salty air out on the docks, Emma nodded, letting him lead her back inside. Most of the lunch rush had taken off by then, and it was almost too easy to hear her friend’s voice carrying through the restaurant as they stepped back through the doorway.
“- she’s not really my sister, even though she looks it, but we always take this big sisterly road trip in the spring to celebrate meeting each other. She pretends she hates long trips, but I know that - Emma!”
Emma’s eyes widened considerably as she saw her friend chatting up a dark-haired stranger, one whose head looked exactly like Killian’s from the angle she had on him. He turned then, a lighter shade of blue eyes meeting hers. He was wearing the same shirt as Killian, too, but all brotherly resemblance ended below eye level.
“You must be Emma,” the man said, straightening up off the barstool and reaching out a large, square hand. “Liam Jones, privilege to be at your services today.”
Emma could see Elsa’s bright eyes behind him, switching frantically between delight and panic. She had always been terrible at improvisation, especially when it came to someone she wanted to impress. Emma only smiled and shook his hand warmly, not missing the gigantic plate of curly fries that Elsa had placed between them. (She didn’t miss the look Liam gave to Killian, either, but she found herself wishing she’d seen it from Elsa’s perspective instead. As it was, he was standing too close to her for her to see.)
“Nice to meet you. Are you the one I need to thank for the sandwich waiting over at my seat?”
“I am, especially since my second-in-command was nowhere to be found,” Liam said pointedly, aiming his smirk at her instead of his brother this time. She managed not to blush, but there was no hiding the snort that came from Elsa at her seat.
Seeing the food on her plate reminded Emma of their reason for visiting, and she found herself lingering there long after her plate held nothing but crumbs, swapping travel stories with the two men who held the sea in their eyes. It was comfortable, just as much as her ride together with Elsa had been, and suddenly she found herself wondering what else they might have missed if they hadn’t pulled off the interstate to fuel up in the little seaside town.
(Elsa, for all her part, wasn’t even trying to be subtle as she offered Liam the last long curly fry on her plate, complaining when he told her it’d be ungentlemanly to take anything more from her plate than he already had. Her argument was that he’d made them, after all, and deserved to spend a little time savoring the dishes he made. They didn’t even notice it when Killian snuck the thing off her plate and ate it himself.)
“So,” Killian finally asks, stepping up to tackle the question they’d all been dancing around, “How long are the both of you in town?”
"Oh, we only planned on stopping for a few-” Emma felt the point of Elsa’s shoe dig into her shin then, effectively cutting her off before she could say anything drastic. Emma swiveled back and gave her just as deliberate and obvious a look, wondering what the hell had gotten into her.
“A few days. Maybe a week or two,” Elsa supplied, sipping at her water and refusing to meet Emma’s eyes. “We don’t really have to be back any time soon.”
Emma let it go after a moment, but only because she didn’t want that to be the last smile she saw on Killian Jones’ face.
Hi! I LOVED your peter x Barnes-Rogers post, I was wondering if you could do one where maybe Peter (being the lovable dummy that he is) feels like the only way he can protect her is to break up with her?
Thank you so much for this ask! I loved writing this. So sorry that this has taken so long, life has been STUPID hard lately.
So I wrote like 1100 words for this ask, because I have no self-control lmao. So I broke this into two parts, and I’ll post the second part a lil bit later in the week.
Tumblr media
Title: Guilty, Part 1 of 2
Pairing: Peter Parker x Barnes-Rodgers!Reader
Requested: Yes!
Warnings: Peter is a sad boy, slight injuries, and I think that’s it?
Summary: Peter is worried the dangers of being Spiderman’s girlfriend are too much for you.
Link to Part 2
"Mmmm yeah no I'd definitely fuck Spiderman."
Peter nearly choked on his slice of pizza. Face rapidly turning pink at the mention of his alter ego, he whipped his head around in an attempt to locate the source of the somewhat disturbing statement. It seemingly came from a group of sophomore girls sitting a few tables behind his -- the girls were all furiously giggling at their friend who looked utterly unashamed at her bold declaration. Peter couldn't help the small smile that stretched across his lips. He knew that those girls had no idea who Spiderman really was, and even if they did he was more than happy in his current relationship. Still, the sentiment was a little flattering all the same.
Or disturbing. He couldn't quite tell which.
"Pete?"
Peter's attention was pulled back to his own table, the soft call of his name from you all he really needed to refocus completely. You were gazing up at him from your seat next to him, beautiful features gleaming with a look of amused curiosity as you silently asked what had him so distracted. Sending you a reassuring glance and squeezing your hand that was nestled firmly in his, he shook his head.
"I'll tell you later," he mouthed.
You quirked an eyebrow and shot him a look that clearly said 'you'd better' before turning your attention back to the conversation you and Ned had previously been having.
Watching the two of you argue childishly over your opinions on what the better Star Wars adaptation was, Peter couldn't help but grin. A wave of affection washed over him and butterflies danced happily in his stomach at the sight of you interacting so naturally with his best friend. He'd known Ned and MJ for much longer than you had, but over the time you two had been dating you'd effortlessly folded yourself into his small group of friends. Even though it's been months now, the simplest of interactions still warmed his heart and filled him with pride.
Despite the interruption, Peter's ears were still trained on the conversation of the group of girls behind him.
"Say what you want, Bucky Barnes is absolutely the hottest avenger," he heard another girl chime in over the dull hum of the other conversations in the busy cafeteria. He wrinkled his nose a little, an involuntary shudder going through him at the mention of your dad in this context.
"Mm, sure but let's be honest dating a superhero would be fucking awful," the first girl grumbled. Peter frowned.
"Are you nuts? It would be amazing!" her friend replied, disbelief lacing her tone.
"Please," the girl scoffed. "I can't even imagine the kind of scary shit you'd have to deal with on a regular basis."
Peter heard her friend hum thoughtfully.
"I guess, but I mean you'd still get to be with a god. Literally in Thor's case," she giggled.
"Whatever. Just seems downright dangerous if you ask me."
The girls moved on to a different topic, but Peter was still thoroughly distracted by what they'd said. He realized abruptly that he'd never really considered the affect his superhero life could have on you. What if those girls had a point? Was he putting you in harm's way just by pure association? Peter felt his stomach flip and lurch at the mere thought of something happening to you, and the idea that it would be his fault settled like a rock in the bottom of his belly. His mind whirred into overdrive as anxious thoughts filled him with an increasing dread and left him feeling paralyzed.
He was so still, in fact, that you took notice of his motionless form. Even though he was the one with the spidey senses, you seemed to have a knack for knowing when he was upset. Thumb rubbing across his knuckles absentmindedly, your gaze turned towards him once more, a frown marring your soft features.
"Petey? What's wrong?" you muttered quietly, voice just loud enough that you knew he'd hear but low enough that it didn't alert anyone else at the table.
He swallowed thickly and looked over at you. Your eyes were locked in on his face with a sparkle of concern playing in the y/e/c irises. Guilt began to mingle with the anxiety in the pit of his stomach as he noted your slight distress. Shoving all of his feelings down as deep as they would go, he managed a smile and kissed your cheek softly in reassurance.
"Don't worry about it angel, it's nothing," he lied smoothly.
Your eyes narrowed ever so slightly in suspicion, clearly not buying his excuse, but you allowed MJ to pull your attention back to the table's discussion all the same. Peter sighed lightly in relief at the distraction. Though he was turned towards his friends his mind was a million miles away, the girls' words echoing loudly against his skull.
  --------------------
A few hours later Peter was feeling only slightly better.
After lunch he'd managed to make it through the rest of the school day without so much as a second alone with you. While that would ordinarily be a bad thing, he knew that the moment you two were alone that you'd expect an explanation for what happened at lunch. You were incredibly perceptive, and Peter was certain he'd wind up telling you everything. Not 100% sure of his own feelings at the moment and completely terrified of your reaction, he decided to avoid you until he'd processed things. He'd practically ran out the door after the last bell, shouting that he'd meet you at the tower after patrol for your usual study-date and leaving you behind, confused and more than a little suspicious.
Patrol did little to quell his nervousness.
The streets were unusually quiet tonight and the monotony allowed him to picture all kinds of horrible things that could happen to you as a result of being associated with him. He tried to push the thoughts away, but he couldn't help but spiral a little further into his pit of self-doubt. Instead of the distraction he was hoping it'd be, Peter's mind ran wild as he watched the city from above.
Eventually, it came time to meet you, and Peter'd be lying if he didn't admit he was a little relieved. Being separated from you was always difficult, and the withdrawal from your presence felt like it was amplified by his anxious state.
Winding his way through the familiar tower halls, Peter decided he needed to tell you exactly what he was feeling. Though he wasn't much more certain about how he felt, he knew that you would make him feel better. He wasn't used to feeling so disconnected from you, and regardless of his thoughts to the contrary he couldn't quell his desire to be near you. He'd been overwhelmed with the urge to feel your soft skin against his, smell your sweet scent wafting into his nose, and hear your quiet words of reassurance in his ears ever since you'd parted ways earlier in the day. He knew it was selfish, but it felt like he was going to reach his breaking point soon if he didn't get what he needed.
And what he needed was you.
"Oh my god! Y/N, what happened?!" he exclaimed as he finally made his way to the common room and caught sight of you. Caught off guard, you jumped slightly at his bold entrance before grinning widely at him.
"Hiya Petey!"
Ignoring the way you completely evaded the question, he was by your side in an instant. His palms lightly grasped your cheeks as he examined your face gently. You had an angry-looking mark blossoming under your right eye, and your upper lip looked as if it'd only just stopped bleeding. His eyes felt like they were going to pop out of their sockets at the sight of your injuries, and he felt anger bubble up in his chest. For all his over-thinking today Peter never once considered finding you like this.
"Seriously, what the hell happened?" he practically growled, a feeling he could only describe as rage filling him at the thought of someone hurting you. You opened your mouth to speak--
"That's exactly what we were wondering," a voice cut you off before you could reply. Peter turned, surprised to find your dads standing near your desk, arms crossed and expressions furious. He turned back to you only to find you rolling your eyes at the three of them.
"So Y/N, care to explain?" Steve demanded firmly. Peter shuddered a little at the tone of his voice. It was the same one he used in the field --the one you jokingly referred to as his 'Captain-voice' -- that clearly left no room for negotiations.
"I already told you, it's no big deal," you drawled, clearly unfazed by your dads' obvious anger. Peter frowned.
"Are you serious?" he gaped. "You're hurt, of course it's a big deal!"
You rolled your eyes once more, but your face softened just the slightest bit at the evident worry lacing his tone.
"Doll, just tell us who did this so we can maim them," Bucky practically barked. His hands were clenching and unclenching uncontrollably, and his eyes were alight with a kind of fury that made Peter shiver a little. You, however, either didn't notice his anger or didn't care.
"Oh please, like you all haven't come home from missions with much worse," you snapped. Bucky's jaw twitched in anger, and he opened his mouth to reply.
"We're not talking about us right now," Steve interrupted smoothly. "We're talking about you."
Expression irritated, you opened your mouth --clearly about to spit out a snarky reply-- but Peter cut you off before you had a chance to speak.
"Y/N, please?" he begged quietly. Your eyes snapped over to his face, the irritation fading from your y/e/c irises at his gentle plea. You chewed your lip a little, brows furrowing slightly in contemplation before sighing.
"S'not a big deal," you mumbled. "I just got into a fight with some asshole girls after school today."
"What girls?" Peter asked evenly, fighting the bubble of anger that was threatening to erupt from his body. You just shrugged nonchalantly, evidently unwilling to elaborate further.
"Y/N," Steve said warningly. You sighed, shoulders dropping.
"Just some girls! They were talking shit--," you started, pausing only when Steve shot you a warning glance. "Sorry Pops. Talking trash about dad and Peter, or rather their alter egos I guess. Anyways, I obviously took offense -- you know cause they're morons -- and things just kinda escalated from there."
The effect of your explanation was instant. Steve's hardened expression eased the slightest bit at your story, his eyes flicking to his husband as he cautiously appraised his reaction. To Bucky's credit, if he felt any type of way about what you'd said it didn't show on his face. Bucky remained stoic and he hardly moved a muscle. If it weren't for the fact you knew he had super-hearing you might've thought he hadn't even heard you. Peter, on the other hand…
It was like someone had knocked all the breath out of his body at once. His heart lurched and remorse burned at his insides. His anger quickly gave way to utter guilt, and he felt his face drop despite his best efforts. All the fear and guilt he'd been wrestling with all day felt like nothing compared to now.
You were hurt. And it was his fault.
"Like I said, it's not a big deal," you supplemented quickly as you noted the mens' various reactions. "Seriously, you should see the other girls' faces. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a call from Tiffany H.'s plastic surgeon thanking me for all the money he's about to make."
Peter felt frozen. Normally he would've chuckled at the adorably smug look that'd taken over your features, but he couldn't manage to muster up any feelings outside of his own self-hatred at the moment. Bucky, however, did not seem to share this sentiment. He loudly chuckled at your quip, a proud sparkle gleaming in his eyes and a wide grin plastered across his face. Steve still stood with his arms crossed, expression stern.
"Y/N, you can't just go around getting into fights just because you don't agree with people," he lectured. Bucky snorted.
"Really Stevie?" he chuckled, shaking his head in amusement. "I'm getting the most distinct flashbacks of a certain sickly teen who picked fights pretty much wherever he went…"
Steve's face flushed with the slightest twinge of pink at his husband's insinuation. You grinned widely at your dad, clearly delighted with the turn the discussion had taken.
"Again, we're not talking about me," he covered quickly, weakly hiding his embarrassment with a cough. "Y/N, you're grounded. One week, starting now."
Your jaw dropped.
"What?! That's not fair at all!" you spluttered indignantly. "Tell him he's crazy dad!"
Bucky chuckled once more at the sight of your complete and utter shock, his grin only dropping once he caught sight of his husband’s unamused expression. He cleared his throat quickly and crossed his arms once more before shrugging at you.
“Pops is right Y/N, you can’t just go around getting into fights. No matter how good you are at ending them…”
“Oh come on,” you groaned, rubbing a hand across your face in exasperation. “It’s not a big deal, right Pete?”
Peter blinked, pulled only back to the conversation at hand once he heard you call his name. Shaking his head slightly to try and remove the lingering feelings of shock and guilt, he looked blinked slowly as his eyes darted between you and your dads. Opening and closing his mouth wordlessly, he felt utterly at a loss as to how to respond.
"It's a big deal if we say it's a big deal," Steve countered firmly. "So I'm sorry Peter, but you'll have to go now."
You scoffed, arms crossing furiously as your face crumpled into a pout. Ordinarily Peter would've giggled at your childish gesture, but at the moment he could only muster enough attention to nod.
"Yeah, o-okay. I'll see you later Y/N," he muttered quietly before leaving in a daze.
If he weren't so consumed by his own thoughts he would've seen the look of concern that passed over your face or the confusion spattered across your dads'. But Peter didn't notice either, too busy trying to sort through the torrent of thoughts and feelings currently raging inside his head. He walked out of the tower on autopilot as his mind was wracked with guilt over what'd happened to you. Left with only one possible conclusion, he returned home feeling utterly devastated with what he knew he had to do.
--------------------
Bucky was confused.
He'd noticed a distinct change in his daughter's behavior lately that only seemed to be getting worse. He internally wondered how long this'd gone on, because let's face it, he knew if it gotten to the point that even he'd noticed, then it must've been a while. Bucky used to pride himself on knowing everything about you, but as you'd grown older he found himself knowing less and less. Despite Steve's constant reassurance that it was simply the way things went when kids became teenagers, he still felt that little twinge of guilt in his belly when his seeming ineptitude as a parent was called into focus.
Like now.
You'd become withdrawn and quiet, a far cry from your normally energetic and talkative self. You were spending more and more hours secluded in your bedroom, and he could've sworn he'd caught you looking as if you'd just been crying on more than one occasion. All the signs were pointing towards something bothering you, but Bucky felt utterly lost as to how to determine just what that even was, much less figure out how to help you with it.
Currently, the team was finishing up with their nightly dinner, and your strange behavior was once again on the forefront of his mind. You sat across from him and Steve, looking more like a zombie than anything else. Your normally bright eyes looked dull, the dark bags under each of them looking practically a mile long. The food on your plate looked untouched, and Bucky felt a stab of panic deep in his chest as he realized he couldn't remember the last time he'd seen you actually eat something.
"You okay doll?" he questioned you softly, voice low. You hardly moved, the brief flash of your eyes towards his the only indication that you'd even heard him.
"I'm fine," you muttered, gaze dropping to your dinner and fork moving more of your food around aimlessly as you fell silent once more. Bucky's brows furrowed deeper at your dull response, the lingering fear and discomfort settling deeper into his stomach. Steve eyed the two of you, expression full of concern. His hand gently rested over Bucky's in a show of solidarity with his husband until Bucky's gaze moved towards him.
"Any idea what that's all about?" he muttered quietly. Steve just shrugged, but his clear blue eyes were brimming with the same look of concern and slight confusion as Bucky's.
"Can I be excused now?" you mumbled without so much as a glance upwards. Steve shared a worried glance with Bucky before he cleared his throat.
"You have to eat something Y/N/N," Steve replied quietly. "Can't you just take a couple of bites?"
"S'cold," you protested, voice still devoid of any emotion. A flash of memory invaded his mind of he and Steve cooing and pleading with you as an infant, trying helplessly to get you to eat your food. He fondly remembered the way your chubby arms would cross as you stubbornly refused to eat your pureed food, a picture perfect miniature of Steve. His heart twisted painfully at the stark contrast of that strong-willed little toddler with the shell of a teen he saw now.
"Go into the kitchen and heat it up then," Bucky tried. You didn't move an inch. "Please?"
Sighing, you brought you picked up your plate and trudged away. Bucky let out a sigh of relief, but ran his fingers through his hair nonetheless as confusion and concern continued to rage fitfully in his mind. Steve didn't appear to be fairing much better -- he sat stoically next to him with both hands folded tensely under his chin.
"Seriously Steve, what the hell is going on with her?" Bucky asked exasperatedly. His husband sighed, his own fingers moving to rub against his eyes tiredly.
"Do you two honestly not get what's bothering her?" Natasha interrupted quietly. The supersoldiers glanced over, and she rolled her eyes at them. "Seriously? It's been like 2 weeks."
Now it was Bucky's turn to roll his eyes at her flippant tone.
"So are you gonna tell us what's bothering her, or are you just gonna judge us some more?" he huffed. Nat smiled coyly, relaxing back in her seat and folding her arms across her chest.
"I feel like I can manage both," she quipped good-naturedly. Steve sighed again.
"Come on Nat, just tell us. Please?" he begged, eyes silently pleading with the redhead. Nat seemed to soften a little at this, her green eyes flicking towards the kitchen quickly before she leaned across the table.
"Since I'm certain you'll never figure it out on your own, I'll tell you. But you have to swear you won't let her know that I'm the one who told," she muttered secretively. Bucky nodded dumbly, too eager to figure out what was eating you to care about her somewhat condescending tone. "Haven't you noticed that there's been one less arachnid-themed hero around the tower lately?"
"No. Wait, you mean Parker?" Bucky answered suspiciously. Nat rolled her eyes again before nodding tersely.
"Mhm. Seems like our resident kid-genius broke up with your girl, and now she's completely devastated."
Bucky felt his face furrow into an even deeper frown. Of course Parker had something to do with this.
"So you're saying she and Peter broke up and that's why she's been like this?" Steve interjected, his face a mirror of his husband's. Nat nodded once more, eyes flicking to the kitchen as she heard the beeping of the microwave.
"Yep. Well, to be more accurate he broke up with her, hence her mood," she whispered. Anger began to churn in Bucky's stomach and he felt his fists clench unintentionally at the accusation.
"That little punk," he seethed. "Who does he think he is leaving her like this?"
"I don't know the exact details, and I don't think she really does either," Nat continued. "She said he mentioned something vague about 'not being able to keep her safe' before just cutting off all contact. Poor kid didn't even get a say in it."
"That doesn't make any sen-"
"Hello my little дорогая," she greeted you warmly, voice raising back to a normal volume as you slumped down into the seat next to hers. You managed a half-hearted smile towards the assassin before you began lightly picking at your food. Steve clamped his mouth shut at the sight of you, the grateful smile he shot your way not reaching his eyes. It seemed that the talk with Natasha hadn't made your situation much clearer for him, and he looked utterly confused and perhaps more concerned than he had before.
But Bucky wasn't.
Something Nat said had triggered something for him -- a tiny piece of information that'd seemed inconsequential at the time that now made sense. Grabbing his husband's hand and squeezing it firmly, he gave Steve one last reassuring glance before he left the table. He knew what he had to do.
Animosity [Pirate AU]
[Pirate AU Masterlist]
This story is set a few years after the events of ‘Trauma’.
~
“Cadet! You missed a spot over there!”
Loud clanging of metal rang under deck as the metal bucket was kicked over, spilling muddy water all over the floor. Grian balled his fists holding the dirty piece of fabric he had been cleaning with. He had been almost done with his duties for the day. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. If he spoke up now, he’d be reprimanded again. And if there was one person that seemed to hate him more than the First Mate it was his Captain.
“I’m sorry. I’ll get right back to it”, he said in a flat voice.
There was a grunt of annoyance – probably at his tone – and the bucket was kicked once again, flying into his direction and hitting him in the chest, splattering some left over muddy water all over him.
“Try again, cadet.”
Grian gritted his teeth, starring up at the First Mate, trying to keep his hate from showing. “I’m sorry, sir.”
The older man nodded and walked past him, right through the muddy puddle and Grian knew he’d be busy cleaning everywhere once more.
“Why were we the ones who needed to take a rebellious orphan runt like you… I hope some pirate gets rid of the burden for us soon”, the First Mate muttered under his breath, but Grian could still hear him. The moment the man walked around the corner, Grian held up his middle finger, mouthing a few choice words in the direction.
He remembered being so happy when he had finished his last classes at the navy’s academy. He had graduated with top grades and had been promised a good position… So they had put him onto a ship with some really prestigious overly-decorated people. Prestigious assholes was more like it. The last time those guys had done any amazing feat, TFC had probably still roamed the six seas.
Grian took another deep breath, looking at the mess he’d have to clean up and sighed. He wiped off his hand on his shirt and then took out his locket to look at the small picture. It always helped him calm down before.
“And this was your dream? Scrubbing floors in the darkness? Or would they have let you out there with your charming smile?”, he whispered, pausing for a second before shaking his head at his own antics. Taurtis wouldn’t have been back-mouthing higher ups landing him below deck. Taurtis would have been smiling through it all. If only Taurtis was here and they could go through this together.
Grian sighed in annoyance at himself. If Taurtis would be here, Grian would either be still rotting on that damn island or living the life of a pirate, killing and torturing innocent people. He would have become a dirty criminal. He couldn’t complain about being forced to clean a little. One day he’d have his own fleet below him and then nobody could order him around anymore.
And so he kept scrubbing the deck, praying that none of the other higher-ups would walk up and force him to start all over again. A few minutes later he could hear footsteps, clenching his hand around the rag, not daring to look up. If he didn’t make eye-contact they sometimes pretended he wasn’t there and went on.
“Grian?”
Grian’s head snapped up, his whole face lighting up. There was only one person on this ship that would pronounce his name in such a weird and endearing way.
“Sam!”
The moment he stood up, Sam took in his dirty appearance and his mood darkened. “Who did that? And don’t tell me again that you stumbled. We both know it’s never true.”
The brunette smiled at him, but soon his eyes travelled over the mess on the floor. “Did they put you on cleaning duty again? Man, those old men don’t deserve someone as good as you. They are wasting all your talent.”
Grian smiled at the compliment and slowly stood up. “It’s alright. I haven’t been on this ship that long yet. It’s normal for the new guy to do stuff like that.”
Grian just shrugged, looking down at his muddied uniform. What was he supposed to say? They both knew what was going on around here, but there was nothing they could do about it and Grian didn’t want to risk Sam getting into a fight with the first mate – again.
“Don’t worry, Sam. I’m used to cleaning. It’s not different from the work mama used to give us back in the orphanage.”
Sam’s face seemed to lighten and he chuckled a little. “Well as I remember you and Taurtis loved to ditch exactly those chores to go play pirate and navy, leaving me to clean up the mess.”
“Oh, please” Grian laughed as well “As if you ever did any work. You had all the younger kids wrapped around your finger, doing all the work for you. No wonder mama called us the troublemaker trio. We were really bad… the three of us.”
Grian sighed and let his hang a little, his hand automatically searching for the locket beneath his clothes. “Good times...”, he whispered quietly, only to be suddenly engulfed by arms, pulled into a tight hug.
“I’m so sorry I wasn’t there anymore to save him.”
Grian just shook hist head. “That’s not your fault. I’m glad you weren’t there to get hurt, so I have at least one of you still with me.” Sam gently caressed Grian’s back, helping him calm down from the memory of Taurtis’ death.
“Still… I should have just waited two more years until you guys were old enough to join the navy with me. Maybe things could have been different then.” Grian shrugged at that. Things might have been different if Sam had been there. Sam had always been the best fighter amongst the three of them. But against pirates? If Sam had been there Grian might now be mourning two friends instead of one.
With a sigh Sam finally let go of him, smiling at him with so much pity in his eyes. “Now who did that to you Grian?”
“Does it matter?”
“It matters to me.”
Grian didn’t answer at first. He didn’t want to get Sam into trouble, but he felt the need to share what was happening, if only to have a place to vent. “It was the First Mate...”, he finally admitted quietly. In an instant Sam’s face was furious again and Grian was sure that he’d do something stupid if he didn’t stop it. “You can’t fight with him about that. You’ll only make things worse. Especially not now, so close to your promotion! They might take it back.”
Sam seemed to calm down at his words, if only by a little. "This sucks! They shouldn't be allowed to do shit like that! It's not fair. Once I'm Captain I won't do something like that."
Grian smiled at his friend warmly. He knew Sam would be an amazing captain. He was just naturally good with people, all charming and charismatic. "You won't have to wait much longer."
"Listen Grian..." Sam looked at him out of serious eyes. "When I become Captain next week, I'm gonna try to get the higher ups to transfer you to my ship. I won't let you stay behind. I could imagine no better First Mate than you."
Grian blushed a little at the compliment. Sam had that way of always making him so cheerful with just a few words. "That would be really nice. I'd like to serve on your ship." He had looked up to Sam his whole life after all. Commandeering a ship alongside him would be like a dream come true.
"And now let me help you out a little, alright?"
"You shouldn't! If someone sees..."
"Nonsense. I might be an Officer, but I'm not above helping out a fellow crewmember."
Sam got onto his knees, picking up one of the cleaning rags and smiling up at Grian. "Now come on. If we do it together, we'll be done soon."
It took them both almost half an hour, but they were finally done. Grian wiped the sweat from his brow, looking to Sam with a satisfied smile. He opened his mouth to say something when he heard the sound of steps approaching. Sam jumped up hurriedly, hiding the cleaning rag behind his back just in time before the Captain walked around the corner.
"Officer Sam, Cadet Grian." The Captain looked from Grian on the floor to Sam and raised his eyebrows. "Officer Sam, I do hope for your own good that you didn't help with the chores.”
"No, sir! Of course not!"
"Because if you did I might need to write you up and that might delay your promotion so we can keep you here a little longer."
Grian could see the way Sam's hands tensed behind his back, clinging to the rag, which was hard prove of what he had just done. The Captain walked up to Sam and Grian acted on instinct. He hurried to his feet, pretending to knock the bucket over by accident, water hitting the Captain's shoes, who jumped back in surprise. Grian took the moment their Captain wasn't paying attention to rip the rag out of Sam's hand.
"So sorry, Captain! I didn't mean to do that! I am really sorry!"
The Captain looked at him furiously and then his eyes snapped back to Sam. "You two trying to hide something?", he spat and Sam took his hands out behind his back, raising him defensively in front of him. "I was just talking to Cadet Grian, I swear."
The Captain grumbled. Grian was pretty sure he knew that was a lie, but didn't care enough to call them out on it. "Leave now, Officer, before I change my mind!"
Sam looked at Grian, hesitating, but Grian shook his head a little. If Sam stayed back he'd only make it worse for both of them. With a last worried look, Sam saluted and walked away, probably back to his post.
"Cadet Grian! You will clean this mess at once."
"Yes, sir. Of course."
The Captain then eyed him from top to bottom, sneering at his dirty uniform.
"Cadet Grian... How many times do I need to tell you, that you have to keep yourself presentable. You are no longer a dirty orphan boy. The navy paid for your education, the least you could do is look nice and presentable to thank them."
"I'm sorry, sir, but it was..."
"Oh by the gods, I don't want to hear your whiny excuses again, Cadet! When you are done here, freshen up and then go to the kitchen. You are on potato peeling duty for tonight."
"But..."
"Also on pan cleaning duty after we are done. Don't make me take your food away as well."
Grian hesitated, but nodded. "Yes... sir."
"That'd be 'Thanks for letting me have dinner, sir.'" The Captain looked at him smugly, clearly enjoying the way he made Grian bow under him.
"Thanks for letting me have dinner... sir."
Grian didn’t dare to raise his head until the steps had retreated far enough. On days like these he wished he was still back at the navy academy. His teachers had always been nice to him, telling him he’d do great things in the future. He missed the days when Sam had come to his room to help him study. Here everybody seemed to think he’d gotten his good grades because of his looks after some nasty rumour about him being involved with his teachers had spread. But he’d pull through. Once Sam had his own ship he’d follow him. Everything would be better then.
~
Grian yawned, rubbing his eyes a little and then returned to scrubbing the pans. Everybody else on deck was laughing and having fun. His Lieutenant had decided that no help was needed for cleaning up, which meant Grian would spend half of the night in here to clean up everything. If he was lucky he’d get three hours of sleep before he needed to get up again. That was if the Captain or First Mate didn’t decide that he’d need more punishment.
He had hoped that maybe Sam would sneak in to help him out a little, but he probably hadn’t managed to find an excuse to get away. Grian hummed a little to himself, a tune that had been stuck in his mind since forever, that always raised his mood.
He just put in another pan, when a loud bang echoed over the ocean and their ship shook. The wooden basin Grian was using for cleaning tipped over, spilling some of the water over Grian. Damn he was going to be in trouble with his Captain again. What was going on up there? Did some idiot drink too much and fire one of the cannons again? Grumbling a little Grian put the cleaning rack into his back pocket and tried to heave the basin back up again.
There was another thundering sound and Grian could hear shouting and screaming. No. This wasn’t a drunken mistake. They were under attack. Grian ripped off his apron and ran up to the deck. The moment he opened the door, smoke entered his lungs and he began coughing. Parts of the deck were on fire, some of his crewmates already hurrying to put them out.
Another deafening boom of a cannon shook the deck. Grian turned his head into the direction it had come from. There was another ship, sailing parallel to them, all canons smoking. Grian’s gaze travelled up to the flag and his heart sank. A red flag pirate ship. This was going to be bad. Another cannon fired and hit their ship in the side, making it shake. Fuck. Grian needed to get ready and quick. He ran back under deck, cursing himself for not carrying his sword with him at all times. He had done it in the beginning, just as the rules stated, but everybody had kept teasing him about it.
Grian stepped out of the door and was already met with a sword. The pirates must have boarded the ship while he had been running for his weapon. Grian held his own weapon up in defence and began to engage in the battle. His eyes kept darting around, trying to find Sam in all of this chaos. They always fought best together and Sam was the only one Grian trusted 100 percent to have his back.
He skidded through the hallways, diving into his room and grabbing his trusted sword. It had helped him through many fights, it would do its job now once more.
“Protect me, Taurtis”, he whispered a little out of breath, touching the locket softly as he was running for the deck once more.
Grian managed to push his opponent back enough for him to hit the railing, and one shove with his elbow made him fly overboard. He suppressed the urge to shout for Sam, knowing that it might draw unwanted attention to himself. His eyes darted back and forth. There were multiple pirates on board now, fighting with his crew. He didn't dare to look too closely at the bodies on the floor. If they followed the principles of their red flag all of those men would be dead or dying. In the crowd his eyes were suddenly drawn to his Captain who was having a hard time fighting. Grian rushed over, but a guy stepped in his way, smiling brightly.
"I'd rather you look at me now, boy", his opponent said with an amused undertone, completely unbefitting of a battlefield. Grian’s head snapped back and he moved just in time to block one of the sword strikes. Unlike his first opponent, this guy was actually quite good at fighting and they were pretty evenly matched, especially with Grian's attention constantly being drawn to his Captain's battle. Why was nobody helping him? Where was the first mate? Where was Sam?
"I don't think so, boy. Give our Captains some private time", the pirate said in an amused tone, flipping his ponytail over his shoulder before pointing his weapon at Grian.
Grian looked past him and his heart fell. He recognised the opponent his Captain was facing. They all knew about him: Captain Doc. Grian had already heard about him when he'd still been in the academy. Raised by the frightening TFC, Doc had taken over his ship, swearing revenge on every human being for the death of his father.
"You are really starting to annoy me. You in love with my Captain or why do you keep looking over there?"
Grian felt fury rising inside him. He practically glowered at his opponent and with one elegant turn batted his sword away and rammed his elbow into the guy's face, making him stumble back a little.
There was a loud scream and suddenly Grian felt like everything was happening in slow motion. He turned his head to the side and saw the body of his Captain falling, blood spraying from his throat. Doc stood in front of him, bloody blade still raised. Everything seemed to stop for a moment as Doc looked emotionless at the fallen body. He then raised his head, looking around and for a second their eyes met. And then everything went back to normal speed as Grian's opponent came charging at him again and Grian had to defend himself.
"YOU BASTARD!"
A guttural scream echoed over the deck, and Grian would recognise that voice anywhere: Sam. Grian was being pushed back by his opponent, but he still couldn't focus his attention onto the battle. He kept looking sideways. Sam was running up to the fallen body of their Captain, murderous eyes on Doc. And then Sam raised his blade and charged Doc.
Grian's heart sank. Nobody had ever won a battle against Captain Doc. Nobody ever survived to tell about a battle fought against him. He froze, as images of Sam's bloody body flashed in front of his eyes, reminding him suddenly of Taurtis' death. A sudden pain in his right side brought him back to the present. He had been too slow and the blade of his opponent had scraped by his hip, leaving a bloody scratch. Grian cursed and hurriedly stepped back, blocking the next attack coming in. He needed to finish this. He needed to help Sam. He couldn't lose another friend. Sam was all he had left from his old life. The only good thing still here.
Grian felt determination rise inside him and he began relentlessly raining attacks upon his opponent, who looked at him in surprise, but then simply smiled enthusiastically, fighting just as fierce. Grian could hear Sam shouting insults at Doc, but the pirate stayed silent or just wasn't loud enough for Grian to hear. He kept listening to the insults but otherwise focused on his own fight. As long as Sam was shouting, he was alright. As long as he was shouting he was alive.
"You should just give up, boy. It is futile. Give up and I might let you live."
Grian huffed, looking with hatred at the pirate. "Sure thing, red flag", he spat out, watching the pirate pull a grimace at his words. Well look at that, a pirate not being happy with being called a murderer. Where was that dumb pirate pride of his?
A loud scream stopped his train of thoughts. Sam!
Grian's eyes drifted over and he saw Sam's blade sliding over the deck as he fell onto his back. Doc was slowly walking closer. Adrenalin rushed through Grian's body. When his opponent charged again Grian ducked under the blade and forgoing his own weapon, he used his free fist to punch the pirate square into the face. His opponent fell backwards and Grian ran off without one glance back.
Doc raised his blade. Sam was still on the floor.
A loud clang and Grian's whole arm was shaking as he blocked the attack by the Pirate Captain.
"Don't interrupt my duel." Doc's voice was a low threatening growl and it sent shivers down Grian's spine, but he stood his ground, glaring at the Captain.
Doc's gaze travelled to the side, furrowing his brows as his eyes landed on Grian's former opponent who leaned against the railing, holding his bloody nose.
"Ren, did you seriously let a little boy beat you? Tell me again why I made you my First Mate." The pirate – Ren – shrugged and gave his Captain a lop sided grin. Doc sighed and turned back to Grian, eyes searching him. "Interesting."
Grian knew he had to do something. He couldn’t let Doc end Sam’s life.
"I challenge you to a duel. If I win, you let the rest of the crew live", Grian said, trying to sound confident in the face of certain death. He couldn't care less for half of his crew, but he'd do anything to save Sam.
Doc smirked, sharp shark-like teeth showing, not a hint of joy in his face. "Oh, boy. No need to challenge me. I'll fight every single one of you if I have to. But do tell me what I'd gain from accepting that deal. What's in it for me?"
Grian faltered. He hadn't thought this far. In the navy, challenges like that would be accepted based on honour alone, but that seemingly mattered little to a pirate. What would he even have to offer?
"Scared to lose, pirate?"
"Never. I'm just curious what you think you have to offer to come in between me and my prey."
"If I lose I'll join you", Grian blurted out. Doc looked at him taken aback and then burst out laughing.
"And what makes you think, I'd want you?"
Grian shrugged. "Maybe the fact that I beat your First Mate without really paying attention to the fight." Okay maybe that was stretching it a little, but if it helped him get Doc to accept it didn't matter.
Doc's eyes travelled to Ren again, who was now fighting another one of Grian's crewmates, face still bloody.
"You got yourself a deal. When I win I'll take you and you get to watch me kill all of your little friends and if I get bored with you, I'll kill you off as well." Grian noticed the way Doc had talked about 'when' he would win, not 'if'. He swallowed. What made him think he could win against Doc, when nobody had ever managed that?
The fight started without any more warning. Doc was relentless, raining hit after hit upon him. Grian swore he could see sparks flying when their swords met. Unlike in the fight against Ren, he couldn't risk losing even a little part of his concentration. If he let his attention waver for even one second he'd lose in the blink of an eye.
Grian ground his teeth together and then started becoming more aggressive. If he just stayed defensive there was no way he'd be able to win. He needed to win. If he didn't then Sam would die. He couldn't bare watching another one of his friends die before his eyes.
Doc raised an eyebrow at him as Grian began hitting back, trying to find an opening for an attack. But Doc was always fast enough to block him, fluidly moving into a counter attack. Out of the corner of his eyes he noticed a few pirates watching them, no longer fighting. That meant nothing good for the rest of the crew. At least noone intervened, letting their Captain fight his battle on his own.
There was a whimper to the side, from one of the pirates and Grian noticed Doc's eyes filling with worry and darting to a white haired man for a second. Grian jumped at the opportunity immediately, blade flying forward. Doc's eyes snapped back to him at once and he hit the blade to the side, a grin on his face. And too late Grian realised that this had been a part of Doc’s strategy. Grian’s blade flew out of his hand, far off to the side. He hurriedly took a step back. Doc was grinning widely now, holding his blade up, pointing it straight at Grian's throat.
"Looks like I win. How naive of you to think a boy like you could win against me."
Grian's eyes were darting around hurriedly, looking for a way out, a way to win. He had no more weapons on him. The only thing he still had was...
Grian hurriedly moved, pulling the cleaning rag out of his back pocket. He wrapped the rag around his hand, movement hidden behind his back, heart beating like crazy. If this didn't work he was done for. And if it worked it might still hurt him beyond repair. All in all it was a stupid idea. Grian's eyes darted to Sam for a second. Sam who was being held to the floor by two pirates, probably so he couldn't intervene in their fight. With determination in his eyes, Grian turned back to Doc.
"Got a little knife hidden behind your back or something?", Doc taunted in amusement and then strode forward faster, raising his hand and bringing it down fast. Grian swallowed hard and sidestepped the attack. When the sword was right next to him, his arm shot out and he grabbed the blade with his wrapped hand, holding it in an iron grip. Doc had been so sure of his victory and just a second too slow to react. His grip wasn't as hard as Grian's and he couldn’t free his blade fast enough.
Instead of pulling as Doc most likely expected, Grian shoved hard, feeling the blade cutting into his skin, but he ignored the blinding pain. Doc seemed to stumble a little and Grian used the opportunity to kick at his legs, making the Captain fall backwards, pulling Grian with him. As they were falling he kept a tight grip on the blade and with one strong pull he managed to rip the blade out of Doc's grasp. In one fluid motion he turned the sword around, still holding onto the blade with his bleeding hand, the other hand grabbing onto the handle and when they landed he pressed the side of the blade under Doc's chin, sitting atop of the fallen Captain.
"One wrong move and I'll kill you, pirate."
Doc looked up at him out of breath, his eyes wide and full of surprise. For a moment they were just staring at each other as the deck fell into complete silence, the sounds of fighting and cheering coming to an abrupt end. A few seconds passed and then Grian heard hurried steps coming closer. His hands began shaking as he pressed the blade a bit harder against Doc's throat, drawing a bit of blood.
"Stop, Etho. Noone touch him."
The steps behind him stopped, but Grian was still on edge. Doc below him seemed to have recovered from his surprise and looked at him almost bored.
"What is your name, boy?"
"G... Grian."
Doc smirked at him, looking rather intrigued. "Grian, huh?" The way Doc rolled the name on his tongue, voice almost growling, made Grian falter, loosening the pressure of the blade a little. And suddenly a knee hit him in the stomach, as Doc threw him off, their positions switching, the blade back in Doc's hand. Doc was now the one leaning over him, looking down at him in deep thought. The sword was resting at Grian's throat, bound to kill him any moment.
"Should have killed me when you had the chance, Grian", Doc said with a smirk. Grian closed his eyes, expecting his life to end any second, but it didn't. When he was opening his eyes again, Doc was still looking at him as if he was thinking about something.
"Ren! Call our men back. We are leaving."
"You sure, Doc? You never…"
Doc still kept his eyes on Grian as he replied. "Grian and me had a deal after all. He won. We will leave." Doc leaned closer, his lips now right next to his ears as he lowered his voice to a whisper. "Mark my words, Grian. The next time we meet, I will kill you. Noone ever fights me and lives to tell the tale."
And as sudden as it came the pressure on Grian's neck was gone and Doc stood back up, leaving Grian lying on the floor. Grian stared after him as he went over to Ren and true to his words the pirates were leaving, one after the other jumping back onto their ship. Sam finally rushed over, helping him into a sitting position and firing a flurry of questions at him. But Grian couldn't hear anything, his whole attention still focused on the pirate Captain. Doc climbed the railing and turned around to look at him one more time, smirking devilishly and taking a bow, before taking a rope and swinging over to his own ship.
"Grian? Grian! Talk to me! Are you alright?"
With Doc gone Grian was slowly noticing everything else around him. The Deck was on fire, bodies lying everywhere. Sam was looking at him in worry and Grian nodded slightly. "You?"
Sam smiled and pulled him into a crushing hug.
"You are an idiot. You could have died!"
"Well, I'm glad I'm an idiot or I would have lost you."
The following days seemed to pass in a blur, so many things happening all at once, almost overwhelming Grian. It was a wonder they had managed to make their way back to the navy headquarters with the state their ship had been in after the battle, but they did. The casualties of the fight had been high. The ship's first mate had miraculously survived without even one drop of blood on him, taking over the Captain's position of their ship at once. Grian had been forced to go to the hospital as soon as they had returned. Luckily for him the doctor there had been able to fix his hand, but had told him that the wound would leave behind a scar he'd carry forever.
Grian's eyes searched the crowd of navy soldiers as he stepped into a huge room, slowly walking over the walkway left open in the middle. His eyes landed on Sam, smiling back at him, looking all dashing in his brand new Captain's uniform. Grian returned the smile and stepped up a few stairs towards an admiral, stopping in front of the old man and saluting.
The admiral pinned a medal to the lapel of Grian's brand new uniform and his stoic expression disappeared as he smiled at Grian proudly.
"Congratulations. You are the rising star of the navy... Lieutenant Grian."
Mad love.
Tumblr media
· Pairing: Steve Rogers x Reader.
·A/N: Here’s my entry for @tilltheendwilliwrite 7.7K’s challenge. I was supposed to post it earlier but I thought I scheduled but I didn’t. Sorry. Anyway, I hope you like it.
·Song: Mad love - Sean Paul ft Becky G & David Guetta.
· Word  count: 2246.
· Warnings: language, smut, more language. Steve huffed punching the punching bag as hard as he could. Once again you were training to that damned song he hated. Too much language, too explicit he thought. Bucky smirked as he walked towards his best friend knowing how pissed he was. You were always listening to explicit songs, that’s what Steve said. He, on the other side, enjoyed seeing you dancing and singing at the top of your lungs some dirty lyrics.
“Easy, tiger,” Bucky joked, which gained him a murderous look from Steve.
“You knew she was coming, didn’t you?” Steve asked, annoyed.
“Incoming, incoming!” you shouted running towards Bucky and, luckily he caught you on time.
“How are you doll?” Bucky laughed.
“Tired as fuck,” you sighed. Steve grunted at your side and you giggled, “Sorry, Captain,”
“You do have a mouth there, doll,” Bucky winked, letting you off his arms.
“And damn well you know it,” you winked and chuckled.
“C’mon girl, Wanda is waiting,” Natasha called you out from the door. You greeted them goodbye, not without leaving a kiss on Buckys’ cheek and waved Steve. He hated you.
You were dancing and singing at the top of your lungs. Tony threw a carnival party and you were enjoying it like nobody else. Wanda and Natasha long lost in the crowd, tequila shots boiling your blood and you drank your drink in one sip. You spotted Bucky, Sam and Steve at the VIP area as Sam said and you walked to them. Still vibing to the song, your recent discovery Latino music aka reggaeton and Tony seemed to enjoy it. Everything to annoy Mr Language.
“HEYOOO” you shouted to greet them.
“There she is,” Sam smiled.
“How many tequila shots you had doll?” Bucky asked, letting you rest against his chest.
“Enough to see you as handsome as ever,” you smirked.
“I think you should go to rest,” Steve commented.
“Ugh, too early,” you replied.
Steve was about to argue back when you heard the rhythm of the song of the summer, that’s what Tony said, beating loud. You yelped excitedly and grabbed Buckys’ hand pulling him with you. Safaera aka known as a vetoed song banged making you danced provocatively with Bucky.
Bucky followed your moves, his hands grasping on your hips and his hand slipping lower on your back. You spun around to keep his hands busy and giving him a good view of your tight black skirt and croptop. Bucky rolled his eyes laughing at your dirty look, he adored you.
“MAMI QUE TU QUIERE!” You sang and Bucky pulled you away from the intruder trying to steal you. You laughed and bounced your ass, seductively, singing the lyrics. Your so many years under HYDRA rules taught you so many things, like languages or to be a stripper for a mission.
You caught Sam vibing to the song and you needed to bring him to dance with you. You walked to him and Steve, your hips swaying, gaining dirty looks around. Bucky followed and soon the three of you were singing and dancing.
“Jesus christ,” you heard Steve murmured. You looked at him, red covering his ears betraying his disgusted face. You winked at Bucky who nodded assuring you he regretted speaking Spanish.
“She took a pill that makes her horny, fucks in audis, not in hondas. If I fuck you don't call me, it's not for you to love me. If your boyfriend doesn’t eat you out, then why is he here,” You sang at the top of your lungs, Bucky and Sam laughing out loud and cheering you up. You erupted in laughter, still moving your hips to the beat, your eyes fell on Steve. His jaw clenched, his eyes dark and angry. You gulped, filling the heat in your core, you squirmed on your spot.
Tonys’ voice echoed the room while you exchanged looks with Steve. Your mouth was dry, maybe it was the tequila or all the beers you had, but you were looking at Steve with the nastiest of the looks, your eyes filled in lust. Steve, on the other side, his jaw clenched, his expression serious and slightly annoyed you could say, his knuckles white, you thought he would break the glass between his hands, he bit his lower lip and you let out a groan. Steve swore he saw your nipples through the fabric and he closed his eyes shut.
“Ten thousand for Captain America!” Tony brought both of you back to reality.
“TONY!” Pepper arrived at his side and pulled the microphone from him.
“Captain!” Tony called out.
“I’m sorry, Steve’s not in this auction,” Pepper said.
“Fifty thousand!” a woman shouted from the other side of the room. Your mouth fell open and you tried to find her through the crowd.
“A hundred!” another voice, from the back.
“No, no,” Pepper tried to calm them down.
“I hear a hundred and fifty?” Tony giggled, happily, enjoying the moment.
People chattering and giggling, you spot the curly woman who offered a hundred thousand for Steve smile proudly.
“Oh boy,” Sam laughed.
“A hundred in one,” Tony started counting down.
The people anticipating the moment with giggles and congratulations to the woman.
“A hundred in two,” Tony sang, you saw the excitement on his face and you denied.
“A hundred and fifty,” echoed the room and you spun to see Natasha, her known smirk plastered on her face. You sighed relieved.
“A hundred and fifty for the widow!” Tony sang and everyone erupted in cheers.
“I’m going to kill him,” Steve sighed.
“He did it for a good cause,” Sam added.
“Yeah, making Cap lose his virginity,” you mumbled. Bucky erupted in laughter.
“Not everyone is like you,” Steve snickered back. Sam facepalmed himself internally while Bucky gave Steve a disapproval look.
“Fuck you, Steven,” you spat, you kissed Buck’s and Sam’s cheeks before walking away.
“Really Steve?” Bucky added. Steve huffed.
                                                          ★★
The beat from the speakers made the room feel like some club, your hands punching the punching bag then and there, you were tired, exhausted but mostly, pissed. You never knew why Steve couldn’t stand you, from the very beginning he was a dick to you and you were tired of it. Yes, you had a mouth but you weren’t like that at the beginning until you realised that was the only way Steve spoke to you. You wanted to be friends with everyone in the compound but Steve made it hard to be friends with.
Sean Pauls’ Mad Love made your heartbeat race and without thinking, you started dancing. First slowly, spinning around, ballet style until the beat dropped and you dance sensually, your hands touching your hips and your thighs, you let your mind drive you to your darkest fantasy.
Seve walked in to find you dancing, your hips rocking something imaginary on the floor, your hands moving at your sides, you were dancing. You stood and moved sensually to no one and his unsteady breath made him growl. He couldn’t take his eyes off you, he imagined himself around you, he imagined his hands touching your thighs, your hips, your hips bouncing frenetically against his. His hands closed in a fist, you made his blood boil and his mind dirtier than ever. If you only knew.
“Steve WHAT THE FUCK!” you screamed, scared.
He opened his eyes, you were standing a few feet away, your breath unsteady, your face red and slightly sweaty, your lips red from biting them. Fuck me, “Sorry, I didn’t know you were here,” He excused himself quickly.
“You scared me!” you added, “And given our job that’s quite hard,” you murmured.
“I know,” He whispered.
“I was..” you blushed, “training,”
“I’ll be back,”  He said before storming out. You denied, that man would be the death of you.
                                                          ★★
After Steve left you finished your cooldown and walked back to your quarters, you needed a night out and you needed it now.
“Doll,” Bucky sighed.
“Please, please Bucky” you pouted.
“I’m not in the mood for a party night,” he shrugged.
“But I want to dance!” you pouted again, giving your best puppy eyes.
“Look there’s Steve,” Bucky called him, “You’re still going to that ball, right?”
“It’s not a ball,” Steve replied.
“Prom whatever,” Bucky added, “Do you have a date?”
“It’s a gathering for senior people, we’re supposed to join them,” Steve answered.
“Great, she’s going to be your date,” Bucky pushed you into Steve and ran away. The fucker ran away. I’m so killing you, you told him telepathically.
“See you at 8 P.M?” Steve asked. You looked at him skeptical, was he for real?
“Yes,” you mumbled.
An hour, you have been in the seniors ball for an hour and you still haven't had a drink. Well, cherry cola only. Steve doing his work, pep talk, meeting people and taking pictures. You still remembered when Tony told him he was going to be the Seniors Ambassador in town. I’m not that old he said, you laughed.
The music low and from the forties, you’d recognized the music anywhere. Steve liked that music. You caught him looking your way and you gave him a soft and supporting smile.
He smiled back and you felt your head dizzy, that man.
You huffed at Bucky’s text and wished you had a beer. You sighed hard and sat properly on your chair, waiting for Steve.
“Now tell me, sweetlady, is he your beloved?” an old lady asked, standing at your side.
“Oh no,” you answered, “friend from work,”
“I had friends from work and I’ve never spoken about them the way he does about you,” she smiled.
“Steve’s very polite,” you smiled.
“Then I’ll ask him to dance with me,” she winked and walked to him. You watched the exchange smiling, Steve agreed by the looks he send your way and walked to the dance floor with the lady. You observed them dance for a moment, until a hand fell in front of you. Bucky.
“Dance with me?” he asked, pouting. You squinted your eyes but accepted his hands. Put your head on my shoulder by Paul Anka sounded. You moved slowly, your eyes focused on each other and he chuckled.
“Fuck you, Barnes,” you muttered.
“Doll, I really thought it would be good for you both,” he replied.
“There’s no beer, how is he supposed to tolerate me?” you asked.
“He tolerates you pretty well, excuse me very much” he snickered, you denied, you were about to answer when a tap on your shoulder made you turn. Steve and the woman looked at you.
“You know honey, Brunettes are more my type,” she grabbed Buckys’ hand and pulled him to her side, pushing Steve into you and dancing away.
“She just stole my date,” you mumbled.
“I thought I was,” Steve added. You looked at him, his face calm and relaxed. His blonde hair well placed and all you wanted to do is put your fingers on it. The song switched to Sway by Michael Bublé. Steve offered his hand and you grabbed it, pulling him into the crowd. You swayed from side to side, his fingers on your lower back and hand, your hands on his shoulders and you risk it all caressing his arm until you reached his neck. You felt his grasp into your green satin gown and you decided it was now or never. You swayed sensually, moving him around, spinning under his touch, giving him sensual and seductive looks. The song arrived to an end with Steve nailing into your hips, his left hand travelling to fix your hair.
Tumblr media
His kisses burnt your skin, your hands touching every inch of his bare torso and back. His mouth travelled to find your earlobe and you moaned his name. He pulled your dress up and kneeled on the bed to kiss you everywhere. You moaned and asked for more while his fingers travelled on your legs and you felt his fingers getting close to your core. You held your breath and let a heavy sigh escape your lips when he kissed your forehead.
“Open,” Steve demanded. You obeyed sucking into his fingers than once were inside your sex.  Your legs still trembling from the first orgasm his devilish tongue cause inside you. He bite his lips and opened your legs, growling.
“Love the views,” you panted.
His hands caressing and grasping into your thighs, you panted and pulled his arm trying to make him fall on top of you.
“Your legs look the best when I’m spreading them apart,” he groaned in your ear. You felt your center wet again and you kissed him passionately. You panted and moaned his name, his sex hitting your g spot, making you squirm under his touch. Your legs started to give out and you knew you were close again.
“Fuck, give it to me baby,” Steve growled in your ear. His movements erratics making you notice he was close to.
“Steve!” you panted out loud, he trusted a few more times and you felt him fill you up.
“Fuck, fuck,” he panted, trying to steady on top of you. You both panted and tried to breath again.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y, play Mad Love by Sean Paul and Becky G,” Steve panted.
“What?” you asked, confused.
“I’m not done with you,” he moaned on your lips, his hands travelling to your heating core.
Auror 99 - Epilogue
I hope you’re all ready for this! It’s heist time!
AO3 || FFN
a/n: I based this off of the season 3 heist, and some of the plot points and a few lines are taken directly from the show. I do not own the rights to Harry Potter or Brooklyn 99. Thanks for following this crazy story!
Tumblr media
Epilogue: The Heist
“Captain Holt,” Kingsley said after apparating directly into his office.
“Ah, King, you made it,” Holt said, looking at his watch. “Right on time, too.”
“Yes, well, it wasn’t easy transporting a large portrait under a disillusionment charm from England to the United States,” Kingsley commented. “Care to fill me in now that we’re in person? Your correspondence gave away very little.”
“I can, but I don’t have much time before the squad arrives for their shift,” Holt said. “You may place the portrait on that easel over there. It is an honor to make your acquaintance,” he nodded to the portrait.
“And yours as well. While I don’t wish to speak poorly of my permanent residence, it is nice to leave the wall of the Headmistress’ office.” The voice of Albus Dumbledore could be heard through the Disillusionment charm Kingsley had placed on the frame.
“What about your other portraits, Albus?” Kingsley asked in confusion of his statement.
“Ah, yes, I do travel to those occasionally as well, but this may be my only opportunity to ever travel outside England. Though, I believe Captain Holt is pressed for time and would like to have a word before you must take your leave,” Dumbledore observed.
“Thank you, Albus,” Holt said before turning to Kingsley. “For the last two years, Detective Peralta and I have engaged in a ridiculous Halloween bet, now known as the Halloween Heist. Normally, I don’t engage in such frivolous antics. However, we are currently tied 1-1, and I intend on winning the tiebreaker and putting an end to this, once and for all.”
“I see, but what does this have to do with Albus’ portrait?” Kingsley asked.
“Ah, yes. Ever since your team left following the closing of Gerteso’s case, I planted the seed in Peralta’s mind for him to contact Nolan about returning to help him win.”
“So you think Nolan is going to be here today?” Kingsley said. “Now that I think about it, he and Jason did take the day off…”
A wicked grin spread across Holt’s face. “Just as I predicted. Now, I’ve positioned the easel for Albus’ portrait so that he can observe everything that’s happening in the precinct, unbeknownst to anyone.”
“I will do my best, but I must say my lip reading skills are not up to snuff,” Albus admitted with a chuckle.
“There will be no need for lip reading,” Holt said as he made his way back over to his desk and pointed to a contraption that looked like a radio. “I planted a bug on Peralta’s desk, so you should be able to hear the conversations without any issue.”
Albus nodded as Kingsley interjected. “Well, good luck to you. I’ll be taking my leave now, and will be back in the morning to retrieve the portrait.”
Holt nodded, as Kingsley disapparated.
“It’s the best day of the year!” Peralta said excitedly as the squad gathered in the briefing room for their meeting. “The day we can finally determine once and for all who is the amazingest ‘amazing detective/genius!’”
“Yes, which we both know will be me,” Holt retorted. “This year, we will both be attempting to steal the same item. This—” he held up a briefcase and opened it to reveal a gold crown, “will be locked away in the interrogation room. The case itself cuffed to the table. We decided to use a neutral object this year instead of Peralta trying to steal something of mine.”
“Yeah, and whoever is in possession of the crown at midnight will be crowned the amazing detective/genius. Which will be me,” he added with a fake cough.
Holt shook his head in mock annoyance. “We will see about that. Now, as for teams: we each can choose who we want to work with, and as I was the victor last year, I’ll choose first.”
“I guess that’s only fair,” Jake said, rolling his eyes, and pretending to be affronted.
“I choose Terry,” Holt said swiftly.
“Alright, alright, brawns over brains. I get it,” Jake commented.
“What?” Terry asked, but Jake ignored him as he made his own pick.
“Charles,” he said.
He didn’t notice that Amy almost stood up with a smug look on her face, only for it to fall slightly as he chose his best friend over his girlfriend. Amy looked to Holt in anticipation next. Maybe he’d choose her instead.
“Yes! The dream team rides again!” Charles said, pumping his fist in the air.
“Gina,” Holt said automatically, as Gina stood up and joined the captain.
“Rosa!” Jake said.
“Dope,” Rosa said as Amy exclaimed,
“What?!”
“Sorry, Ames, I can’t trust you. You’ll do anything to please Captain Holt,” Jake explained his reasoning.
“Well, fine, maybe I wanted to be on Captain Holt’s team anyway,” Amy said, trying to hide the look of hurt on her face.
Holt held up his hand. “Sorry Santiago, I can’t trust you either, given your current relations with Detective Peralta.
“Wait, so nobody wants me?” Amy asked. Both Jake and Holt looked at each other awkwardly and shook their heads.
“You can be with us!” Hitchcock said happily. Everyone forgot he and Scully were still sitting in the back.
“Um, I’m good,” Amy said.
“Uh, yeah no,” Jake added. “Let the heist begin!” he said as he ran out of the room quickly to meet with his team.
“Charles, you guard the case from the viewing room. I guarantee that Holt will send Gina in there. Rosa, you know what you have to do,” Jake said as Rosa nodded and Charles took off.
Jake pulled out his phone and sent a quick text. Heist has begun. You know the drill. He pressed send and looked up to find Amy standing in front of him.
“Oh! Hey Ames, what’s up?” he asked.
She looked at him suspiciously. “Who were you just texting?”
“Me? Texting? Oh, just Charles. You know, making sure he made it to his post alright.” Jake shoved his phone in his pocket.
Amy squinted her eyes at him in question, but didn’t argue. “Listen, Jake, you really hurt my feelings back there.”
“I didn’t mean to, Ames. You know how important this is to me.”
“So you know I want to help, then! Let me help, Jake, we’ll be unstoppable! Just give me a chance.”
“Sorry Ames, but I can’t,” Jake said. His eyes shifted down. “Nice try, Captain, but I’m not going to fall for your games this time. Your little spy is not getting any information out of me.”
“Jake, why are you talking to my breasts?” Amy asked with a disgusted look on her face.
“Because you’re obviously wearing a wire,” he said in the most ridiculous way. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got paperwork to do,” Jake said as he turned around and sat down at his desk.
Meanwhile, Amy walked over to Captain Holt’s office and knocked on the door.
“Come in, Santiago,” Holt called. Sergeant Jeffords and I were just finishing up here.” He nodded to Terry who gave him an unsure look, but walked out of the room, having been dismissed.
Amy hovered in the doorway. She wanted Jake to hear how Holt would gladly use her help for the heist to stick it to him. “Captain Holt, I really want to make Jake pay for not choosing to have me on his team. I’m yours, do with me what you please,” she pleaded to Holt.
“—Title of your sex tape!” she heard Jake call from his desk.
“I’m sorry, Santiago, but I have no use for you this year. You’re too much of a risk, and I can’t have a late addition ruin everything. I will reign supreme,” Holt said.
“But Captain—” Amy tried to interject.
“You’re dismissed, Santiago,” Holt said with finality. He shut his door and walked over to his desk as Amy sulked to hers.
“She’s telling the truth, you know,” Albus said from his perch from the corner.
“Maybe that’s the case, but I’ve already planned every step precisely and nothing will go wrong,” Holt said.
“Be that as it may, Captain Holt. I know I am only a portrait of my former self, but I assure you I can sense when shenanigans are afoot.”
“What does Peralta have planned? Did you see anything while I was speaking with Jeffords?”
“No, no. I only sensed there may be an additional person in the precinct,” Albus said as his eyes looked above him.
“HA! I knew he’d enlist Cooper and Brown. He’s falling right into my trap.”
~o~
“Charles, you can keep trying to distract me, but you’ll never win. How’s it feel to be on the losing team,” Gina taunted him.
“Come on, Gina, I promise you won’t be disappointed this time!” Charles argued.
“No, Charles! I will not be set up on another blind date with a Boyle cousin. I respect myself too much,” Gina argued. “This body is a shrine and I have standards to uphold.”
Charles looked up and saw Rosa’s face appear in the window for a split second. That was his cue. “It’s not a Boyle cousin! It’s a recommendation from Genevieve. Here, Gina, look! I have a picture of him. Just let me find it,” he said as he dug into his pockets. He pulled the picture out and let it slip out of his hands, falling to the floor.
“Could you be any clumsier, Charles? GOD!” Gina exclaimed.
She looked down and saw that the picture was of a very attractive looking man. She bent over to pick the photograph up, and Charles used that moment to give the thumbs up. A split second later, decoy detonators were running rampant around the floor. This caused Gina to scream and jump up on the table as the figures were scurrying around making loud noises.
“Charles, do something! What are those things! They’re going to kill us! Charles!” Gina yelled dramatically.
While this diversion was taking place, Rosa was working swiftly to unlock the door to the interrogation room. When it didn’t work, she broke the glass on the window, and then somersaulted through, meeting Ron, who had apparated into the room. Rosa moved over to the briefcase and began cutting into the leather as Ron reached into his pocket and grabbed Peruvian Darkness Powder. He tossed it toward the window and it immediately exploded, covering the area in complete darkness. He used his wand to control the spread of the powder so it isolated itself in front of the window.
  “We’ve got two minutes before this starts to weaken,” Ron told her.
“Got it,” Rosa said, the crown in her hands. She flipped over the briefcase and zipped her jacket, stuffing the crown inside. “We’re good,” she said gruffly. “Wait for phase two in the evidence room.”
Ron nodded as Rosa slipped out of the door. He waved his wand to repair the shattered glass, and flipped the briefcase over, repairing the hole Rosa cut as well. He noticed the powder starting to fade and apparated back to the evidence room.
~o~
Holt remained in his office, pretending to be nonplussed by the ongoing heist, and attempted to focus on his paperwork. Terry knocked on his door and came in.
“Hey, Captain, do you have any idea when I should tell Sharon to come in. The twins are almost done trick or treating, and I’m not sure she can hold them off much—” Holt cut Terry off with a raise of his hand.
“Shhh,” he said as he turned his radio up slightly to better hear Jake’s voice.
“Great! Now, all I have to do is sit here and guard this filing cabinet until midnight. Hello, victory!”
“Yeah, sure, whatever,” Rosa said indifferently as she walked away.
“Now, Terry, call her now. It is time,” Holt said.
“Uh, okay,” Terry said as he left Holt’s office.
Holt watched Terry go, and waited for his wife and kids to enter through the elevator to take his leave from the office.
“Hey, girls!” Holt heard Jake said happily as he slipped out onto the terrace.
He picked up his drill from the hiding spot and waited for Jake to be appropriately distracted. Stealthily, he moved towards the filing cabinet and unscrewed the back. Holt slipped the crown out, replaced the back and stood up to photobomb one of the shots before escaping into the breakroom.
Pretending to be interested in the snack table, he noticed Amy nod to the breakroom and Jake looked over and saw him alone. He quickly disposed of the crown in the garbage can, and grabbed a handful of cheese puffs. I knew I couldn’t trust Santiago, he thought to himself.
“Since when do you eat cheese puffs?” Jake asked as he strolled in.
“If you must know, Peralta, they are one of my—” Holt paused briefly, “guilty pleasures.”
“Maybe I’m rubbing off on you after all,” Jake said with a laugh. “Quick, let’s see how many we can fit in our mouths at one time!” he said.
“I’ll...pass,” Holt said.
“Wait a minute, if they’re your guilty pleasure, why aren’t you eating any?” Jake crossed his arms over his chest.
“I was going to enjoy them in my office,” Holt said quickly.
“A-huh, well after you, then,” Jake said, gesturing to the door.
Holt had no choice but to follow him out and return to his office as Jake returned to his desk, petting the filing cabinet as he sat down. Jake pretended to get back to work, but pulled out his phone and typed out a message. Pretty sure Holt took crown. In breakroom. Initiate phase two.
After he returned his phone to his pocket, he noticed Charles walking over to his desk. “Charles! What are you doing? You’re supposed to be guarding the crown!”
“I’m sorry, Jake! You know I’d never betray you,” Charles said quickly.
“Why do I sense there’s a but?” Jake asked suspiciously.
“Because there is one! Come on, Jake, I thought you were smarter than that,” Gina chimed in with a guffawed voice.
“Gina? Where’d you come from? Nevermind. Charles, why aren’t you watching the briefcase?” Jake asked again.
“Well, Jakey, Gina agreed to go on a date with Nadia! But I had to leave the briefcase unattended…”
“Charles!” Jake said as his hands reached up to pull his hair.
“Jake, you can stop the act. I know the crown was obviously taken from the briefcase.” Gina told him.
“What?” Jake tried to play it off like he had no idea what Gina was talking about, but his facial expression was traitorous. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I haven’t been to the interrogation room at all!”
“Drop the act, Jake. I’m Gina Linetti and I know everything. Did you really think that distraction worked? I knew exactly what you were doing. Don’t insult my intelligence.”
“What’s all this?” Captain Holt asked as he walked out of his office. “Last time I checked this is a precinct, not daytime television drama!”
“Sir, Gina is wrongfully accusing me of taking the crown!” Jake defended.
“I don’t see how that’s a problem, Peralta. Where’s the lie?” Holt asked, cocking an eyebrow.
Jake’s mouth gaped like a fish out of water before he dropped the act. “Okay, fine, we have it, but you’ll never find it!” he admitted with an air of superiority. His hand immediately went to lean on the filing cabinet, pretending it was still there.
Captain Holt let out an abrupt laugh. “In the top drawer of your filing cabinet? Please, Peralta, you’re playing like an amateur.”
“Would I really put the most beloved object of this life changing event in such a normal place?” Jake retorted.
“Why don’t you open the top drawer and let us all see.”
“Well, fine, if you must check…” Jake opened the top drawer, revealing an empty spot. Feigning shock, he looked up at Holt, then at everyone who was standing around. “Rosa! It’s gone. Where did it go? Tell me you borrowed it!”
Rosa had joined the circle now. “Why would I take it? That wasn’t part of the plan.”
“But then where did it go?” Jake looked at Holt. “There’s no way you could have stolen it. I’ve been at my desk the entire time.”
“Ah, yes, you’ve been here, but you allow yourself to be distracted far too easily, Peralta,” Holt said as he pulled out his phone.
After a few clicks of the touchscreen he held out the phone for Jake to see. Sharon had sent him the picture she’d taken of Jake and the kids, with Holt photobombing with the crown in the background.
“Dammit! I should have known you’d use Terry’s girls to distract me. Not cool, Captain, not cool.” Jake shook his head, before looking up. “But wait, you were in the breakroom right after that!” He looked at Charles and Rosa before continuing, “Holt stashed the crown in the breakroom!”
The group made their way over quickly, each team trying to beat the other in an attempt to regain possession of the crown. Jake stopped abruptly at the head of the pack, causing everyone to run into him and each other. “Wait!” he turned to Holt. “That means you lied to me about the cheese puffs! That hurts, Da—I mean, Captain. I thought we were bonding over junk food.”
“Peralta, do you really think I would consume that cancerous trash?” Holt asked loftily.
“Well, that sounds a bit harsh,” Jake said, but then shook his head. “Where is it?”
Holt walked over to the garbage can. “I had to stash it somewhere quickly so you wouldn’t see. So naturally, I placed it here,” he said, gesturing to the trash. “And now, I can retrieve it and keep it in my possession for the last hour. Looks like I have outsmarted you once more, Peral—” Holt cut off because as he lifted the lid off of the garbage can, he realized the crown was missing.
“What’s wrong?” Charles asked.
“It’s not there. It’s not there! Peralta, what’d you do with the crown? I know you took it!”
“How could I have taken it? I was at my desk the entire time after we both left. It’s not like I can use magic or anything,” Jake said with a laugh. He didn’t realize what had slipped out of his mouth until he saw the look on Charles’ face. “I mean, obviously, magic doesn’t exist, duh…”
“Peralta, you’re not fooling anyone! I know you’ve got Cooper and Brown lurking around the precinct somewhere, helping with your plan. Did you really think you could hide that from me?”
“What?! I don’t know what you’re talking a—”
“Peralta! Get them out here. Now.”
Jake let out a sigh. “Fine. How’d you know?”
He pulled out his phone and sent a quick message. Jig is up. Holt knows. Come back to the breakroom.
“How did I know? I practically gave you the idea to call them back! ‘You must miss your British friends. It’s a shame you can’t collaborate with them on anything else,’” Holt mimicked the words Jake remembered hearing more than once since the Gerteso case closed.
“Aw, man! You and your reverse psychology. Come on, Captain! Why do you always have to play the weird mind games?”
“Maybe you should put your detective skills to better use, and pick up on it, then,” Holt clapped back. “Ah, Brown! Cooper! So nice of you to join our heist. Though I’m sorry to say you’ve found yourself on the losing team.”
Harry and Ron both walked through the door and began exchanging greetings with everyone. “Wait, losing team? You just said yourself you didn’t know where the crown went!” Jake interrupted.
“And you seemed just as shocked as I was,” Holt commented.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Charles interjected. “Where is the crown? Who’s telling the truth?”
“Sergeant Jeffords?” Holt said, looking at Terry.
“Uh, sorry Captain, I got tied up with Sharon and the girls.” Terry shrugged.
“WHAT?!” Captain Holt shouted.
“Ha ha!” Jake pumped his fist in the air. “Looks like you’re going to lose after all, Captain! Nolan and Jason here did what Terry couldn’t. Better choose wiselier next time!”
“Er, Jake, we don’t have it either,” Ron admitted.
Jake’s premature celebrations were cut short. “What?”
“I snuck in to get it, but it was already gone,” Harry explained.
Jake’s furrowed brow quickly turned up and a smile plastered on his face. “Ah, I see what you’re doing. Very clever! Make them think we don’t have it. Don’t worry, Cooper, it’s hidden well enough so Holt we’ll never find it!”
“No, really, Jake. We don’t have it,” Ron’s face was completely serious.
“But then—” Jake looked at Holt. “Who took it?”
“Check the security tapes!” Rosa said.
“Yes, quickly, we don’t have a lot of time!” Holt said.
The group moved around to the computers that had the security footage on it while Holt slipped into his office quickly. He pretended to shuffle papers on his desk, his back to the door as he asked, “Did you see anyone enter the breakroom?”
Albus spoke slowly. “I did see someone enter, but the scuffle of your squad blocked most of my view.”
Holt shook his head. “I should have anticipated the layout of the precinct.”
“I am sorry I couldn’t be of more assistance. I did see Harry and Ronald try and retrieve the crown, and their look of concern when it wasn’t there, however.”
“Harry and—oh, you mean Jason and Nolan. My apologies, I do try to forget their true identities. I must pretend I do not know of their existence, or I risk getting Kingsley into a deal of trouble.”
“Captain Holt, they found some—” Harry walked into the room followed closely by Ron. “Who are you talking to?”
“No one. Didn’t your superiors teach you to knock when entering a room?” Holt said quickly.
“The door was open,” Ron said quickly. “What’s in the corner over there, Jason?”
“Nothing that pertains to you,” Holt said.
“It’s a disillusionment charm. Is someone there? Kingsley? Jake said you might enlist his help,” Ron said suspiciously.
“Now, now, boys, I can assure you I am not Minister Shacklebolt, but he did answer Captain Holt’s request for assistance,” came Dumbledore’s voice from the invisible spot in the corner.
“Professor Dumbledore?!” both boys gasped.
“Only in portrait form. You’ll never believe the lengths Kingsley had to go to in order to get Minerva to oblige. It’s been a nice vacation.”
Ron broke out into laughter. “Well played, Captain Holt. It’s a shame Jake can’t know.”
“Yes, well, I’m sure your reunion can continue later, but did you not say evidence has been uncovered?”
“Oh, yeah, let’s go,” Ron said as Harry and Holt followed.
“What janitor was on tonight?” Rosa asked.
“Should we check the dumpsters?” Charles suggested.
“What is this?” Captain Holt cut in.
“A janitor emptied the trash shortly after you put the crown there! Look, there’s a name tag.” Jake pointed to the screen.
“It says ‘Al’,” Harry pointed out.
“Does anyone know an Al?” Captain Holt asked to a sea of shaking heads.
“Someone has to know..” Charles thought out loud.
“The late night cleaner shift would have ended fifteen minutes ago,” Terry reminded them. “So Al’s not even here.”
“How are we supposed to find him, then?” Gina asked.
“Where’s the directory?” Holt said, looking at Gina.
“That? I threw it out.” Gina said unapologetically.
“Gina—” Terry was about to scold her for not holding onto important documents.
“Wait a minute,” Rosa cut in, “Who sends Christmas cards to everyone in the office?”
“Amy!” Jake said, immediately moving over to her desk. “A ha!” His finger skimmed the list of names and addresses. He secretly loved her organizational skills and knack for keeping things orderly. “Here it is!”
“How much time do we have?” Holt asked.
“Thirty minutes,” Charles said, checking his watch.
“His apartment’s only seven blocks away, we can make it!” Jake said.
He froze briefly as he and Captain Holt both stared at each other. In a split second, they were both running for the elevator, followed by the other members of their teams. The group of eight ran the entire distance to the janitor’s apartment and quickly entered the building.
“The elevator’s broken!” Charles exclaimed as Jake was gasping for air, incredibly out of breath.
“How many...floors?” he asked between breaths.
“Seventeen,” Rosa said with an eye roll.
Holt and Jake shared another brief look before the race continued up seventeen flights of stairs. The rest of the teams followed closely behind. By the time they reached the seventeenth floor, Jake checked his watch.
“Ha! Ten minutes to spare. My lungs are on fire.” Jake said as he knocked on Al’s apartment door.
A woman answered, looking rather annoyed.
“Hello, Ma’am,” Captain Holt said, cutting Jake’s greeting off. “Does Al live here? May we speak to him?”
“It’s really important. Will only take a second,” Jake added as the rest of the group was appearing now.
“He’s not here,” the woman said. “He went up to the roof.”
“What?” Jake asked, now leaning against the door jamb.
“Sorry. If you want to talk to him, you’ll have to go up there.” The woman shut the door in their faces.
“That’s another fourteen flights of stairs,” Holt said.
“I’m pretty sure I’m gonna die,” Jake said dramatically.
“Good, you stay here and recover and I’ll go speak to Al,” Holt said as he started back towards the stairs.
“Not a chance!” Jake said, rallying his energy.
Eight minutes later, Jake and Holt burst through the door to the rooftop. “I...did it….was here….first!” Jake managed to say before he retched to the side.
He was able to make it a few more paces as Holt called for Al. Jake threw up a second time as they looked around.
“There’s no Al here,” came a voice. Someone in the same janitor’s outfit appeared from behind a corner.
“Ah, no! Ames, what are you doing?” Jake asked, clearly surprised.
“I’m here to tell you that neither of you won the heist this year.”
“Wait, what?” Rosa called as the rest of the group appeared through the doorway and came up behind Holt and Jake.
“This is preposterous! You don’t have the crown. Al does. Where is he?”
“It was me all along,” Amy said triumphantly.
“What do you mean?” Jake asked.
“Did you really think I wasn’t expecting the two of you to cast me off to the side this year? I used that to my advantage to take you both down.”
“What do you—” Jake started to say.
“For the past three months I made sure to drop hints of how much Captain Holt’s approval means to me whenever you’d bring up the heist,” she said to Jake, but quickly acknowledged Holt. “Which I do, by the way!”
Jake rolled his eyes. “That’s no different than normal. So what?”
“And I’d also manage to slip in a few words to Captain Holt about how well our relationship is going, so he’d think I’m more loyal to you,” Amy said as she nodded to Jake.
“But...you are, aren’t you?” Jake asked.
“Really? You’re asking me that when you wouldn’t even divulge any details of your plans?”
“And you wonder why I said I couldn’t trust you,” Jake mumbled.
“Can someone please explain what’s going on?” Terry cut in.
“I’m getting there, Sarge,” Amy said as she looked over to the rest of the group. “Oh, hey Nolan. Hey, Jason. I knew you’d call them in,” she said to Jake.
“No you didn’t,” Jake protested.
“Really? Then care to explain why else you’d wake up early in the morning and I’d hear you giggling at text message conversations? Did you really think I had no idea you’d included them in the whole thing? Honestly, it’s a little insulting. And how did you two get away from your wives for the day?” Amy asked.
Harry and Ron both looked guilty. “Er, we told them we were on a mission,” Ron said.
“...And you really think we believed that?” Hermione walked out from the same area Amy was hiding, followed by a second person.
Ron and Harry were white as a sheet. “Oh yeah, I called your wives in. Turns out Charlotte and Nolan are married, they just didn’t want us to know. And this is Lucy, Jason’s wife. Charlotte suggested she join our team.
“It’s about time I got to meet you all,” Ginny said with a genuine smile on her face. “It’s a shame, really, Jason. I could have been such a vital part of your team, but I guess you haven’t bothered to tell your American friends about me, have you?”
“It was a mission before. We don’t talk personal on missions,” Harry said through gritted teeth, worried she was going to give something away. Ginny shot him a look that said, ‘I’m not stupid, so bugger off.’
“Guys, come on, it’s late. Heists are dumb, anyways. Can we wrap this up?” Terry complained.
“Yes, I am quite interested in how Santiago pulled this off,” Holt chimed in.
“Right,” Amy said. “You’ve already heard the first part of my plan, which was to get both of you to not trust me for your teams. Once I knew Jake was bringing in Jason and Nolan, I recruited Charlotte and Lucy. Charlotte was staking out the opposite end of the hallway by the interrogation room and was keeping me updated on Jake’s plan, since we all know he has to make a move first..at least for the heists, anyways. But it was when I was playing the ‘hurt’ card and talking to Jake when I noticed Captain Holt was speaking at his desk, so I asked Lucy to investigate.”
“I crawled through the air ducts to find out what was going on. Turns out Holt had an extra spy of his own,” Ginny explained.
“I knew you’d call King!” Jake exclaimed.
“It wasn’t King. He used King’s connections to get a very important device to help spy on us. One that could see, hear, and talk to, but no one else could see.” Amy was being careful not to give the identity of the magic portrait away. She knew it was Dumbledore’s portrait, but Holt, Terry and Gina couldn’t know.
“No!” Jake shouted. He looked at Harry and Ron, who nodded. He’d sent them into Holts office to figure out who he was consulting, and they managed to slip him a text, telling him who it was. “Okay, Captain. I have to admit, that was a solid idea.”
“Thank you,” Holt said as he nodded.
“Anyways, Lucy also heard about Holt’s plan when he told Terry how he was going to steal the crown from your cabinet. You actually made it quite easy for me to get to it,” Amy commented.
“So you dressed up as Al and emptied the garbage,” Jake finished.
“Exactly. I knew you’d watch the security footage and use my address book to find Al’s address. Luckily, his wife was willing to play along in our charade. I did have more planned for Charlotte and Lucy, but you just made it too easy for us, so we’ve been celebrating our victory instead.”
“But then where is the crown now?” Holt asked.
“At Shaw’s, where my inauguration as ‘amazing detective/genius’ will be held,” Amy answered.
“Man, Ames, I love you. I’m impressed,” Jake said. It took him a moment to realize what he’d said.
“You—you do?” Amy asked, looking at him with wide eyes.
“What?” Jake asked, still not fully understanding what just happened.
Charles was squealing like a little girl in the background. “Jake just told Amy he loved her!”
“Oh, yeah, I guess I did,” Jake said with an awkward laugh.
“Did you mean it?” Amy asked.
“I—yeah, I did,” Jake admitted.
It wasn’t his intention to tell her how he felt in front of the entire precinct as well as his wizard friends, but it was too late now. Amy’s face broke into a sweet smile and it looked like she was trying not to cry. “Aw, I love you too, Jake.”
He walked over and kissed her as everyone whooped and cheered. When he broke apart, she looked him squarely in the eyes. “Don’t think for a second I’m giving you that crown,” she said fiercely.
Everyone laughed. “I wouldn’t dream of it. You won, fair and square. Could you carry me down to the first floor, though? I don’t think my legs can walk back down thirty one flights of stairs.”
Amy, Charlotte and Lucy all laughed. “What’s so funny?” Ron asked.
“I forgot to tell you. The elevator isn’t broken! We just put a sign up to make you take the stairs. We knew it’d buy us enough time until midnight,” Amy said with a triumphant smile on her face.
“My girlfriend’s evil and I love it,” Jake said.
“Can we get to Shaw’s now?” Rosa asked, trying to push things along.
“To Shaw’s!” Jake agreed, as they all made their way to the elevator.
~o~
“All hail the crown of destiny!” Jake said as he placed the crown on Amy’s head. “And she who wears it. Amy Santiago, the—”
“Queen!” Amy interjected.
“—Queen of the 99,” Jake finished.
“And?” Amy asked, waiting patiently.
Holt and Jake both inhaled before saying, “Amy Santiago is an amazing detective/genius.”
Everyone clapped and enjoyed their drinks. Ron leaned over to Hermione and said, “So, how much trouble are we in for lying?”
“I think we can let it slide, considering we won,” Hermione said as she nodded to Ginny.
“Er, Lucy, where are the kids?” Harry asked.
“Bill and Fleur have them,” Ginny said, “And George and Angelina took Rose and Hugo.”
Harry and Ron nodded as Ron changed the subject, satisfied the kids were in good hands. Not that he’d have anything to worry about with his family on standby. “Nice of them to include us in this, yeah?”
“Yes, it’s nice to see them again. Though, we shouldn’t make this regular. We’re already pushing it with how much they know,” Hermione chided.
“You’re probably right. It’s a shame Dumbledore can’t join us,” Harry said.
“Oh, yeah, have Holt walk right in with his portrait. Wouldn’t that be a sight!” Ron sniggered.
“I already messaged Kingsley, telling him we knew about his involvement, and he’s free to pick the portrait up,” Harry said.
“I can’t believe McGonagall even agreed to it!” Ginny added.
The conversation shifted as members from the squad came over and joined them. It was a happy reunion of the two teams, even knowing they couldn’t make a habit of it. The trio resolved to enjoy the night before returning back to England in the morning as they sipped on their drinks. Jake was filling Ginny in on the things Harry neglected to tell her about their time in New York City a few months back, including the infamous precinct chant. As if on cue, Ginny got to witness the chant firsthand.
Terry held up his glass and yelled, “NINE-NINE!”
“NINE-NINE!”
“I’d like to rest my heavy head tonight On a bed of California stars I’d like to lay my weary bones tonight On a bed of California stars
I’d love to feel Your hand touching mine And tell me why I must keep working on
Yes, I’d give my life To lay my head tonight on a bed Of California stars...”
~California Stars - Billy Bragg and Wilco
Buck moved with a limp through the beds that were situated outside of the field hospital, the walk from the Cupcakery on Strand all the way to Sawtell had been a long one. The terrain had changed drastically, almost no street signs were up and those that were had been swept far from where they were supposed to be. So, it had taken him at least an hour, possibly two, but he couldn’t be too sure. He’d lost his phone when the first wave had hit and all his focus had been on Chris, first on trying to shield him from the worse of things, and then trying to find him after he’d lost him.
‘I never should have let him go,’ Buck thought desperately, barely paying the rag tied to his arm any mind even when it was completely soaked with his blood by that point. It didn’t matter, nothing mattered expect finding Chris. Because Buck wasn’t sure what he’d do if that little boy... if he was gone. Buck wouldn’t be able to live with himself.
He saw a nurse and his head perked up. “Uh, hey, excuse me,” he said, remembering his manners at the last minute. “I’m-I’m looking for a kid.” His voice was rough and it broke as he spoke, and his head was aching but he had to find Christopher. “Um, he’s got brown hair. Chris-Christopher.”
“Well, I have way too many Christophers on my list. How old?”
“Um, eight... maybe nine,” he said, wincing as he couldn’t remember. His head was starting to hurt even more and he felt like he could collapse at any moment. “His last name is Diaz.”
The woman flipped through the list quickly, but suddenly paused at the third page. “Yes, I have a Christopher Diaz, he’s nine years old.”
Buck felt relief shoot through him so fast that he staggered, the feeling like a physical pain. “Oh, thank God,” he gasped, sounding almost like a sob. “W-where... where is-?”
“Buck?” a familiar voice asked. Buck turned to face Eddie, the man’s eyebrows furrowing in confusion. “Wait, what are you doing here?” His eyes locking on the bloody rag wrapped around his right arm. “Are you okay? Wait, where’s Christopher?”
“E-Eddie.. Eddie,” he croaked as he turned to look at his best friend.
“Why do you have his glasses?” Eddie asked, his eyes darkening so they looked more black than brown.
“We um,” he started, wanting to explain. Buck wanted him to understand why he was here but without Chris, even if he’d found him. He’d found him. “M-me and Christopher, we were... at the beach.”
The man was looking at him with eyes already filling with grief and Buck shook his head. “No, listen to me, okay?” The man gave a nod, his eyes already filling with tears. “I lost him...but... but I found him... Eddie, I found him,” he said, voice desperately hopeful as he motioned toward the nurse with the clipboard. He was quickly losing his grip with consciousness, the day’s stress and the blood loss starting to catch up with him, and the all encompassing relief that he’d finally finally found Christopher.
Eddie looked at the woman, moving forward and momentarily forgetting that Buck was hurt. He needed to see about his son. As the nurse pointed where Eddie had to go, Buck could only watch as he rushed away and he sighed with a smile.
In the next second he collapsed, and with no one to catch him, he crumpled to the unforgiving ground.
Tony landed on the suit on the roof before he stepped out of it and put it in sentry mode, instructing JARVIS to fly the suit back to Malibu when he confirmed that Buck was there and it was alright that he stay. It was almost midnight when he found his door, knocking on it. There was no answer after the second and then the third round of knocking, and now Tony was starting to worry.
He pulled up his phone and tried dialing his number, but it went straight to voicemail, and grew frustrated. Tony knew it wasn’t exactly legal to ping his phone, but he needed to locate Evan, hoping the man hadn’t done something reckless; like go help when he knew he had a serious blood clot condition. Even then, there was no explanation as to why he couldn’t get his location, because his apartment was out of the flood zone so there was no way for his phone to be damaged.
The man took a deep breath to keep the panic at bay, and then raced back up to the roof as he started pulling up Buck’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. It felt like a cold hand had clamped over his heart when he saw a picture from early this morning of Buck and a very familiar brown haired boy with the location as the Santa Monica Pier; half an hour before the tsunami had hit.
Tony practically threw himself into the suit, blasting up into the air. “J, check the hospitals for an Evan Buckley.” He knew that he’d left Christopher at the VA hospital in Sawtell, and cursed at not having recognized the kid when he’d picked him up earlier. If... Evan was alive (he had to be), and having been separated from the kid meant that he’d be looking for him.
The billionaire knew that Evan had always loved kids, always had card tricks for the few kids that came with their parents to charity events. Evan would make them laugh, showing them his card tricks or telling them jokes; away from their parent’s stern gazes that always told them ‘children are to be seen and not heard’. However, Evan had believed that children should be safe and happy, and he was always overjoyed to give them those secret moments filled with smiles and laughter.
So, Tony knew that Evan would look for that little boy with everything he had. He would search until he had no more strength left in his body, and without regard for his own safety. This made his worry very real, since Evan was on blood-thinners and a deep enough cut might be fatal to him.
He had to find him quickly, and was praying he wasn’t too late. “Evan, you fool,” he growled.
“Sir, there is no answer at any hopsital, and most of the patient and DOA lists haven’t been digitized as of yet.” The last part had Tony feeling cold, thinking that Evan’s name could possibly be on that list. Tony discarded that thought immediately, and instead concentrated on finding Evan, or else he was going to lose his goddamn mind.
His first stop was to go to the field hospital, hoping that maybe Evan had thought to look for Chris there. Perhaps his father had found him and knew something about the blonde man. He wanted to maybe ask his firehouse, but he didn’t remember at the moment what it was, too exhausted and panicked to think straight.
“J, pull up Evan’s file from the LAFD,” he told him. Of course he’d made a copy, since he didn’t want to go back and risk being caught hacking the LAFD again. He was sure he’d get a slap on the wrist, but it was the principle of the thing. Tony Stark did not get caught hacking, he was better than that.
He let JARVIS take control of the armor as he viewed the file, and was surprised when he saw that he was a member of the 118. “Well, I’ll be damned,” he muttered. That meant that he’d been working and helping Evan’s firehouse this whole time and hadn’t even known it. That Bobby Nash was his fire captain.
His eyebrows furrowed. That meant that Chris was one of his friend’s kid. He quickly pulled up his Instagram again and went a few posts back, almost a week ago and the picture of Evan, Chris and Eddie... Eddie Diaz. Well, this was going to be awkward when he met the man again.
Tony pushed all these thoughts to the side and brought his attention to needing to locate the 118. When he’d last seen them they had been going to drop of patients, and since the rest of the hospitals were overrun with victims, that meant the VA hospital on Sawtell. It seemed to all line up and he hoped that’s where Evan ended up as well. As he flew overhead, he saw the mail trucks being unloaded of patients.
Almost every head lifted as he came for a landing, hearing several people calling out to him; either with exclamations of gratitude or people that demanded why he hadn’t been fast enough to save their loved ones. Tony wasn’t angry, since he knew they were grieving. Honestly, he wished he could have been fast enough to save more people, but he was just one person. Even with nine extra suits to help him, he just hadn’t been enough to save everyone.
The Iron Man pilot spotted Bobby Nash right away, the man immediately moving toward him. Tony was relieved when he saw Diaz with a familiar little boy in his arms, Christopher. He wasn’t as dirty as he’d left him earlier in the day, and someone had even changed his clothes. “Tony,” the older man greeted him. “Is there something I can do for you?”
His lips twitched as Tony stepped out of the Iron Man armor and he seemed to realize he was several inches taller than the superhero. Tony would have normally gotten annoyed that he’d forgotten his lifts, but he had more pressing matters at the moment.
“Captain Nash, I’m looking for a... friend, and you might be able to help me.”
The man’s eyebrows furrowed in an expression of confusion. “I don’t know how I could,” he started.
“Evan Buckley,”he said before he could say anything else. “I’m pretty sure he’s in your firehouse?”-
September 8: Homecoming Dance
Wrote another HAICG ficlet! Could probably use more editing but tbh I’m going to crash at pretty much any moment so I’m just gonna throw it out there. Maybe I’ll fix it up some more before putting it on AO3.
This is for @ellavere who asked for Kirk and Spock being embarrassing parents.
Post-5 year mission, ~1600 words
*
Sevin leans in closer toward the mirror, adjusting the knot in his tie one more time. Logically, objectively, he knows that it’s already perfectly straight, and that he should leave it alone. But he can't stop himself from fidgeting with it.
"It's fine, you know," a voice behind him declares. "You look great."
He doesn't turn around, but he does watch in the mirror as his dad stands up, and walks over from the bed to stand behind him. He rests his hands briefly on Sevin's shoulders, smoothing out invisible wrinkles in his jacket. Sevin is in his parents' bedroom, because they have the only full-length mirror in the apartment. But he's wishing he'd just stolen the mirror and set it up in his own room, because at least then he'd have an excuse to tell his dad to get out of his space.
Being alone with his own unfettered anxiety would be easier. Not comparing himself to his confident, handsome, Starfleet Captain parent would be easier. His dad is smiling at him in the mirror like he's the proudest person in the universe, and Sevin can barely remember to keep his shoulders straight. And he won't remember anything else, either, like how to act or what to say, and his suit is the right size, but feels like it’s much too small.
"This is dumb," he says, instead of trying to explain the rest. "I should—I should tell her I'm sick—"
"No! No, you're fine and you're going to have fun. Spock—!"
Sevin glances at the mirror again, at the bit of movement from the hall that caught his dad's attention. Jim is waving Spock over, drawing him into the room.
"What do you think? Doesn't he look great?"
Sevin half-turns so that he's facing both of his parents now, his dad still grinning and his father, next to him with his arms crossed, and what any human would think was an inscrutable expression on his face, deeply and seriously considering. "You look very handsome," he says finally, seriously, and reaches out to straighten the knot in Sevin's tie.
"It's already straight," he insists, with a hint of a whine, and his father just raises his eyebrows innocently.
"I must admit, I still do not fully understand the concept of the high school dance," he says, and Sevin rolls his eyes, because he knows this isn't true. His father does understand. He just doesn't entirely approve. Sevin's not sure if this disapproval is his protective streak showing through or just the way he sets himself apart from purely Terran rituals—or if it's no more than the usual parental denial that his little boy is a full fifteen years old. But if his father forbade him to attend the Fall Homecoming Dance, he wouldn't even put up a fight about it.
"Oh, they're great," his dad answers, while Sevin pulls at his jacket sleeves. "A real coming-of-age thing for Earth kids. You go to a crowded, stuffy gym, decorated with streamers and balloons, and stand around by the bleachers and drink unnaturally flavored punch, and sometimes dance a little, and try to avoid seeing too much of the chaperones."
Spock raises his eyebrows again, the corner of his mouth pulled sideways, his eyes starting to narrow. He is immensely amused. "That does not sound 'great.'"
“He means ‘terrible,’” Sevin mutters, in Vulcan.
Jim doesn’t hear him, but he considers a moment, then admits, "No, it's awful. But," he adds, turning back to Sevin, "also important. Rite of passage, like I said."
"Did you actually have fun at any of the dances you went to?" Sevin asks.
"I did. Once, my sophomore year. I went with my girlfriend at the time, and it was actually pretty decent. Plus, I bet a San Francisco high school dance is a step up from a Riverside High dance, so—" He reaches out, claps Sevin once on the arm. "You'll have fun."
"You will have to tell me about your experiences," his father adds, "as I have never been to such an event, and I am very curious."
"Or dad could just tell you about his and I could stay home," Sevin mumbles. His parents are already standing with their two forefingers touching, which they do almost any time they're in reach of one another, and they don't even seem to hear his comment, because his dad says:
"It's too bad we didn't sign up to be chaperones. Then you could see for yourself."
Sevin fully expects his father to protest, as he himself is protesting—"Oh, no, I don't think you'd have any fun"—but Spock seems to be giving the idea serious thought. He's tilted his head to the side, watching Jim with a careful, appraising, subtly pleased look.
"That would be an interesting experience. Of course, I do not dance—"
"That's a lie. You dance. We've danced."
"That was on a diplomatic mission and thus not comparable."
Sevin's dad is wrapping an arm around his father's waist, pulling him close, only half-joking as he drops his voice a little lower:
"What about our wedding?"
He feigns shock. "A special occasion."
"Okay—can you just—?"
They stop abruptly, almost nose to nose; both turn to him but do not disengage. Spock, at least, looks faintly embarrassed. But Jim just grins.
They are always like this. Sevin can imagine them, showing up to the dance, probably in the dress uniforms that are their only conception of fancy outfits, completely failing to police amorous teenagers because they're too caught up in their own little romantic bubble. As if fairy lights and wilted balloons really set a mood. He has a sudden fantasy of one of his teachers, perhaps Ms. York from Physics, forcibly disentangling them and chiding them for their bad example, and it almost makes him laugh.
"You can't be chaperones anyway, because who would watch Selen?" he asks, proud of himself for his logic.
His parents exchange a glance. "A babysitter," his dad says.
"Nyota, perhaps. Or Dr. McCoy," his father adds.
"Oh, well, too bad they have all the chaperones they need. Maybe another time." Another time, when he stays home with the baby, and they enjoy last year's pop hits echoing drearily in a poorly lit gym. Before either of them can answer, the doorbell sounds, and he's flooded with an intense and refreshing sense of relief.
The relief is followed just as quickly with a twist of nerves so intense, he's half-sure he's about to be sick. Do regular humans feel this way, he wonders, this strongly, or is the strength of his emotions part of his Vulcan heritage? And what mental barriers or strategies could possibly hold the Vulcan version of adolescent confusion at bay?
"I'll get it," he says, in the half-second's pause that follows. That's his date. His date and this is really happening but it will probably be fine--it's just a dance! It's just a dance. Something to laugh about when he's thirty and high school is just a series of anecdotes from his past.
He gets two steps toward the door before his dad reaches out, grabs him by the shoulder, and turns him around. He rests his hands on Sevin's forearms, and looks at him seriously, right in the eye. His dad's go-to move for weighted moments. He'd like to squirm out of the grip, and he could—he's twice as strong as his dad, at least—but in a sense more important than the physical, he is completely incapable.
"Dad, what—?"
"Just wait a moment, okay? I know you have to go. I just wanted to tell you that I've been to these dances and I know that sometimes...the night goes in a direction you don't expect, so... I want you to be prepared. No sex without safe sex, right?
He can feel his face turning red, like a tomato. Like a furnace. He is going to overheat and then faint. Maybe if he tries hard enough he can sink into the floor.
"Dad."
"I know! Dad, so embarrassing. Just promise me, okay?"
He wriggles himself out of the grip at last, ducks his head and rubs the back of his neck with his hand. He can feel his father staring at them both. "I'm—You don't have to worry because I'm not having sex, okay? I'm... not in the same galaxy as having sex."
He glances at his father, stone-faced and tense, his mouth a thin and impassive line.
"He's not having sex," Jim says, as if to translate, and Spock nods, once.
"Good."
Even to Sevin's ears, it sounds like a threat.
Luckily, the doorbell rings again, and he's saved from further embarrassment—of the parental variety, at least.
"I really have to get that!" he says, and half-sprints from the room.
Three steps down the hall, he realizes both of his parents are following him, and he turns abruptly on his heel, almost running into his father in the process.
"What are you doing?"
"Meeting your date," his father answers.
"And taking pictures," his dad adds.
Sevin opens his mouth to argue, but one look at his parents' faces, and he knows he's already staring down defeat. "Just one picture," he insists, as he starts walking toward the door again.
"Three," his dad counters, while his father suggests, "Perhaps four," and Sevin starts calculating the odds that they will scare away his date before he even gets her out of the building.
The outlook appears, at first, bleak, but they are ultimately in his favor.
Omg you've seen a.c.e in concert??? I'm so jealous!!! I've only recently discovered them and I'm sort of in love with Jun. Who's your fave member? They're all such dorks!!! Have you see their new part change video where they're dressed in halloween costumes while they dance?
Hahaha I occasionally post about my cats on my Tumblr so revealing their names might give me away. 😉
I'm also very bad at picking favourites in The Untamed. There are just so many contenders!! But I think lwj and wwx might be at the very top for me. I think I relate a lot to lwj too! I'm usually silent and seem closed off and unemotional until people know me. When I was younger, people have called me expressionless or commented on how I never smiled. And I relate to having grown up with strict rules and struggling to figure out how to navigate the world when you realise that those rules don't work.
I do agree with you about how xue yang might have turned out if he'd had more sympathy and compassion shown to him as a child. I do pity xue yang's, jiggy's and su she's circumstances for the same reason although I could never forgive their actions.
What are your favourite tropes, situations and scenes to read fanfiction about? I really enjoy canon compliant getting together fics, and friends to lovers, and YEARNING (and a lot more but these are the ones I seem to end up reading most). Oh and anything where the female characters get to survive, kick ass and live happily ever after.
-🎵🦄
oh yeah we all went last year on my dad’s birthday, so it was almost a year ago exactly now, wow, time 🛫 they’re such good dancers and seem rly sweet too :(( i can totally see how you’d fall in love w/ jun; he kind of closed his fingers around everyone’s hands in the hi-touch for a moment instead of just doing a brisk high five 🤧
i decided to let myself double bias donghun and chan after the concert, bc there was this moment when we were standing in line for the hi-touch where i was rly sure DH looked right at me?? it’s possible he was looking at the ppl around me too, but like it felt like he was looking right at me. plus we share a bday so like omg fate?? but then chan’s such a qt pie and he literally covered “do you wanna build a snowman?” like how could i not love him?? but yeah all the members are great :’) i haven’t seen that vid yet but i’ll keep it in mind~!
ah, i see 👀
yes, exactly…! i think a lot of us can relate to him, including wyb, lol. i think even my family have trouble reading my emotions~ omg when it was picture day in preschool alskdf i said -_- when ppl actually comment about you not smiling tho, oh my god, that’s the worst !! as if you pointing that out is gonna make me smile, jfc 🙄(dude that scene in captain marvel where the guy tells her she’d look better if she smiled, and she not only doesn’t do so, but also steals his motorcycle... therapeutic)
yeah i’m not at all a forgiving or even trusting person when it comes to real life, but that’s part of the fun of immersing yourself in fiction, heh. mdzs rly is fascinating in how it explores morality~ for some reason jgy and ss don’t break my heart like xy does tho... like i see where they’re coming from, but i don’t feel for them as much? maybe bc they were like twice as old as him when the main bad shit happened to them, idk. xy just feels like a misguided kid who never grew up and learned right from wrong, whereas the others... they feel a bit less childlike and a bit more sinister i guess, lol. i would never condone xy’s behavior tho, as least not with any more seriousness than when whx does so, lmao. it’s low-key kinda fun to jokingly excuse it tho 🙃
so far i’ve only read soft xuexiao fics pls don’t judge me ahhh let me think, back when i used to read a lot of finnpoe fics… i think fluff, mutual pining, coffee shop aus, things like that? for mdzs, i’m just looking for fluff dude, pls, the canon has enough angst alskdf. give me fix-its and aus and reincarnation; i need it !!! while reading the novel, i’m also kind of wishing we got a twilight-style parallel book where it’s just mdzs from lwj’s perspective, so i might look into reading some things from his pov if the novel doesn’t satisfy my curiosity~ all the things you mentioned are rly good too!! i haven’t read any with the ladies yet; do you have any recs? 👉👈
prologue - 001 - 002
Tumblr media
You knew Doctor Banner first. He’s a scientist and you’re someone who somehow exceeds knowledge when it comes to experiments and science but more especially with anything related to aeronautics. He had his ‘green guy’ problem while you had yours. He was like a mentor where you both find the solutions for your problems. After him, was Tony Stark. Tony loved you and your brains and immediately adopted you as his own. He always joked about him and Banner being your two dads and all that and you were more than thankful to have them as your ‘parents’. Your folks were out of the picture because you never met them.
 You stayed with the two intelligent men under the tower where the lab is located and rarely got to leave because you were too busy trying to solve your case or coming up with new ideas for air launching machines or whatnot.
Who are you kidding? You just use the lab as an excuse.
You were cooped up in the homey lab until your intelligence was needed by one of the heroes.
 You knew the avengers. Who wouldn’t? They only ever saved civilians from various bad guys. You grew up learning about them. You grew up trying to memorize Captain America’s history but you weren’t that good in history like you are in science. You were able to finish and pass history but barely. It’s a good thing that a friend of yours was nice enough to help you but in exchange, you helped her with science.
 The Falcon. He intrigued you and you were tasked to design a new model for his suit and wings and you were more than glad to accept the order. It’ll give you something to be obsessed with rather than your unexplainable situation. It doesn’t seem like you’re going to find answers to that so designing the falcon’s suit is a good distraction.
~~
Creating upgrades and making up something new to improve his suit is what you did. And you did it amazingly. You were proud of your hard work and it shows. The suit might have been flawless but it shows how sleepless you've been and a certain Tony Stark finds your condition worrisome.
"Why don't you take a rest, kid? You look like you need it." He teased but a worried tone can be heard from his voice.
"I'm fine, Mr. Stark. I'll just do some test runs and-" you were cut off by Tony.
"First of all, stop calling me Mr. Stark. Second of all, it's an order, kid. Go to sleep." He patted your head and you shook your head, looking down.
"I can't" you murmured but Tony caught it.
Before he could even say something, you snapped your head towards the lab door where Bruce is talking to a guy who was facing away from you so you couldn't see his face but it was obvious that the guy was buff.
"Who's that, Mr. Tony?" you asked Tony.
Tony snorted at the new nickname and shook his head.
"That's Captain America and you need to go to bed." He grabbed the collar of your lab gown before you even had the chance to walk over the door where Bruce and Captain America was.
You groaned and let the inevitable conversation happen.
"What's bothering you, kid?" Tony said as you sat on the foot of your bed.
"Wha- What do you mean?" you questioned, looking up at him who has his arms crossed, looking down at you.
"What keeps you from sleeping?" he asked.
"Is it nightmares? Bad memories?" he added when you didn't respond.
You gulped.
It's only a matter of time before he finds out. Before everyone finds out. Might as well tell him now.
You let out a sigh.
"Mr. Tony?"
Tony raised an eyebrow and chuckled at the nickname.
"Yeah, kid?"
"I have a lot of explaining to do." You deadpanned.
Tony sat cross-legged on the carpet and looked up at you,
"Well, I've got a lot of time."
The dreams started appearing early in your life. You were just a toddler when you would dream about the weird scary lady that's surrounded with black smoke and her bright yellow eyes are just looking at you, staring into your soul. She did nothing. She just stood in front of you, swaying along with the smoke around her. She didn't do anything but being a toddler and seeing that, it spooked you. It terrified you.
As you got older, being in high school, the lady started appearing more in your dreams. This time, she would walk up to you and lean in close to the side of your face, whispering one word over and over.
"Circe" she would chant.
You didn't know what that meant. You didn't know anything about the creepy lady so you ignored it and blamed it on the horror movies that your friends would make you watch.
When you turned 18, she appeared again but this time, she made contact.
After chanting "Circe" again and again, she touched your face and that woke you up in the middle of the night, covered in sweat and panting heavily.
You were shaking and confused. The only thing running through your head was the word "Circe". The word kept running and running through your mind until you spoke it.
"Circe" you whispered. You felt yourself stiffen, and suddenly, you no longer have control over your body. You felt your body move and stand in front of a mirror.
You couldn't react, you couldn't do anything but to watch. Your reflection shows the woman in your dreams. Her name was Circe. She waited for so long and she got what she wanted. She got you to say her name and that's the only thing that you have to do to summon her.
You didn't know where she came from or how she was able to be a part of your life but she was there. You did everything you could to get rid of her. Everything. The only thing you got close to disposing of her was how to control her. How to hurt her.
Her weakness is a high-frequency noise. It hurts her. But it also hurts you.
The only way to bring you back rather than wait for 24 hours was to blast the annoying sound. It would make her screech and scream in agony but it gets you back. You take over your body with whimpers, also getting hurt by the annoying sound.
You didn't know how to remove the lady from your being so you learned to live with it. She would always find a way to torment you in your dreams and get you to say her name so you just stopped. You stopped sleeping. You start doing late night works and spent every hour studying. It was the only way to stop her from appearing. You didn't want to use the sounds that would hurt her because it was as painful as it was for her as it was for you.
You became a sleepless robot. Doing anything that could prevent you from sleeping. It wasn't healthy but it was the only way.
Circe is a destructive being. When she would take over your body, she would leave traces of her. She would kill anyone who dares disrespect her. She would play mischievous pranks on anyone she wants and it wasn't playful pranks. She is dangerous.
But then you saw him.
You saw Bruce Banner.
You saw a post and he was experiencing something that relates to your situation.
That's how the two of you meet.
He told you everything about his hulk and you told him everything about your Circe situation. The two of you bonded over experiments on how to get rid of your other personas but always keep failing.
Then he finds the avengers and that brings us to now.
"Wow" Tony blinked.
"It's a lot, I know." You sighed.
"How come you're only telling this now? You could've been an avenger-"
"No!" you cut him off.
"This is why Mr. Bruce and I kept this a secret. I didn't want to be in that situation. I don't want her to take control. She can't be controlled. She's dangerous. She can't be with the avengers. If anything, she would be a villain and she'll probably end up getting killed by the avengers or worse, her killing you all." You gasped out.
"Woah, Woah, kid. Relax. We'll talk about this in the morning. Right now, you should get some sleep."
You looked at him ridiculously.
"Oh, right. Sorry. Let me make some coffee and we can work on that bird suit of yours for now and talk about this in the morning." Tony stood up and patted your head, leaving to probably make some coffee.
~~
Things got weird when you gave Sam his new suit.
Sam was alright. He’s funny and he’s really great with making you feel comfortable but it’s his friend, Bucky, who was weird. After meeting the falcon for the first time, he introduced you to some of the others like the black widow, Wanda, and Bucky.
The two girls were really nice. Especially Wanda. Natasha was a bit quiet and strict but she seemed nice nonetheless.
Then there was Bucky. He was quiet and really weird. You don’t really know how to feel when he just stood there and gawked at you as if you were some kind of an ancient exhibit. If you didn’t know better, you would think that he was a snob who found it outrageous that someone would take his time just to introduce someone like you to him. But then he spoke to you.
“Y/N?” was what he said.
“Yeah. Nice to meet you.” you were weirded out by his tone but you remained as polite as you could and hid the feeling away.
“Y-You don’t remember me?” he whispered.
“What?” you laughed. Maybe he was playing a prank. He was friends with Sam so maybe this was a ploy that the two created.
“Shit” he cursed. Your eyes widened and you tilted your head at him.
“Excuse me?” you asked, a bit offended.
“I’m sorry. It’s just that you look a lot like someone I knew back then.” he muttered.
You looked at him and felt guilty for thinking differently about him. He was just surprised to see someone who looked familiar from his day back then. You felt bad because, from your little knowledge about his and captain america’s history, you knew that they both lost everyone and they only have each other now. Well now they have a new family but having someone from your past is always better. You couldn’t blame the guy from being homesick, kind of.
“Oh! It’s okay. I understand. Well, it was really nice meeting you all.” you smiled at Bucky and then turned to everyone else to say your goodbyes as you were going back to your inevitable confrontation with Tony.
Bucky stood frozen.
Is it really her?
She’s alive? But she doesn’t seem to know any of her past.
Has Steve seen her?
Fuck. He’ll lose his shit.
Bucky swore to give his best friend a heads up because he’ll probably weird the girl the hell out like he did himself or he’d be brokenhearted knowing that the girl doesn’t know shit about them.
She looks like their old best friend but for sure doesn’t act like it.
Either she’s good news or she’s bad news.
