Here’s a list of things Lee Felix, however, did not know before applying for college, and even though it’s fairly shorter, it hits you in the guts deeper, and that is: 1) studying for college means never ending chapters of insomnia and 2) he is always going to feel like the second choice for everyone.

There's one thing that Felix is really, undoubtedly good at, though-- and that is cheating. Can he cheat his way out of liking you?

The freckled boy sitting in front of you looks at you with furrowed brows and you wonder what’s the matter with him. Is there something on your face? Are you not dressed appropriately for the occasion? I mean, it’s only a tutoring session, so you didn’t put that much effort into it, but judging from the casual outfit enveloping his body, he didn’t really try to look fancy either. So what was it with him that made him stare you down as if you had horns on your head?

“Shall we start?” he asks once he’s done staring, voice sounding determined. You wonder if he sees the hints of nervousness on your face and if he notices the way you shrink in your seat in the mention of biology, but you guess he doesn’t know you that well to know that you fear the subject as much as you fear dying.

“Yeah, sure,” you nod, scooting closer to the edge of your seat so you’re not so far away from the table. Felix-- your new biology tutor-- is sitting opposite of you and it’s quite difficult to read the text book once it’s upside down, but you don’t dare to mention it to him for a reason that’s unknown to you as well. It’s like you don’t want to overstep any invisible boundary on your first tutoring session, and telling the person that is teaching you to turn around the text book so you can actually see and learn something seems to be one of the taboos in your eyes.

You take a quick glance at the waiter that just stopped next to your booth and smile, opening up your mouth to order yourself a meal. “Can I get you anything else?” she asks.

“No-” Felix offers her with a shy smile, but you cut him off with a voice a little higher in the octaves, not wanting your tutor coming in between you and reaching your biggest goal you’ve set for yourself.

“Actually, yes. Could I please get the chicken wings? With fries?” you ask, trying to look as innocent as you can, smiling at her in politeness. You ignore the confused look Lee Felix is offering you from the other side of the table. You mentally send him a signal to tell him to mind his own business, watching the waitress leave with a nod and a polite smile.

“Okay, now we can start,” you nod at him and focus all your attention to the boy with sandy hair in front of you.

“O...kay?” he answers, obviously trying to bat away his rising confusion, because ordering yourself chicken wings on your tutoring session is prohibited now, apparently. “So,” he starts, sighing and scratching the back of his neck, “what do you not understand from this section?”

You nervously chew on the bottom of your lip. Well, that’s a sweet question, you think. It would have been much sweeter and much easier to answer, though, if you understood at least a bit from the things you’re supposed to know. You went to university with the urge to prove something to yourself, but the only thing you’re proving to yourself right now is the fact that you are actually kind of useless, when it comes to biology.

“Just like the… whole thing, actually,” you nod, trying not to look as defeated as you feel and also trying not to burst out in a manic laugh as you always do when you feel slightly nervous about anything.

“Cool, cool, yeah,” he nods, taking a deep breath in, turning the textbook around and sighing, “I don’t think I can help you with that.”

“What do you mean you can’t?” you ask, confused.

Lee Felix is the top of the grade. He is the best at biology, he is the best at chemistry, he is the best at his farmacy class. You’re sure he’ll be a fine biochemist in a few years, when his college times are over. Lee Felix is the smartest boy in your biology class and you are, coincidentally, quite the opposite on this spectrum. Which is exactly why your teacher managed to make Felix tutor you in his free time. You weren’t surprised at the fact that the blonde boy agreed to this-- he was quite the sweetheart, really. All the girls in your class fawned upon the way his freckles shined in the sunlight and the way he opened the doors for older professors. He was quite the boy you would want to introduce to your parents. Not quite the one every girl goes after, but the one that you would want to settle down with after your college years are over.

So why is he, the sweet, but also smart boy that agreed to tutor you, now telling you he can’t help you?

“It’s just.. I’m not really good at this section, I mean-”

“Felix, you’re the top of the class. Of course you’re good at this section.” you mumble, gazing deep into his eyes, trying to search for an answer.

“I-” he says and takes a sharp breath in, stopping himself in continuing his train of thought and just opting to shrug, not giving you a proper response either.

You feel like someone just punched you in the gut, and that’s when you realise-- here it is again. Another person that doesn’t believe in you-- another person that needs proving that you really can do it, you just need a little push. You can see it in his eyes that he doesn’t think you’re smart or bright enough to pass the exams, you’re not good enough to get good grades. It’s nothing new to you, but it still haunts you just the same.

“Is it because you know I can’t do it?” you bluntly ask, sighing.

“No! No, no, I never said that-” he says, almost panicking with the way his hands fly into the air hurriedly, waving them around as if it was meant to calm you down.

“You’re acting like it, though. I promise I’m not stupid- well, maybe I am, but-”

“You’re not stupid! It’s me! I’m the stupid one here.” he says, effectively silencing you with his words as you stare at him, dumbfounded. He’s joking, right?

“How can you be stupid when you get only the best grades? Felix, if you just don’t want to waste your time here, tell me, but don’t try to hide behind poor excuses.” you roll your eyes, feeling frustrated at the boy’s antics. Does he really think you’re that stupid that you can’t even see right through his lies?

“I cheat.”

You blink a few times as if to reset your brain, gazing at him with pure confusion written in your orbs. He cheats? No. That’s a lie. A person as good at biology as Felix can’t cheat. All his exams are on 100% and he never makes any mistakes. He’s the epitome of the smart kid. The little Einstein. The prodigy. There’s no way it’s all cheating.

“No.” you shake your head in disapproval. “Don’t lie to me.”

“I’m not lying! Look, I genuinely, really want to help you. I really do. The thing is, though, I don’t know how to study. I make cheat sheets and I use them at every exam and every test, that’s why everyone thinks I’m super smart, but that is really not the case,” he shakes his head, staring into your eyes with his wide open in honesty, wanting you-- no,-- needing you to understand. “I would tutor you if I could, really, but I just don’t know how to,” he sighs finally, acting like he’s just given birth or ran a marathon, exhaustion written all over his face.

“So why did you offer to tutor me, then?” you ask.

He takes a moment for himself to collect his thoughts, before he speaks up again. “Well, I didn’t really want to get caught. You see, I would never turn my back to anyone. Really. So I thought I could at least try to learn something? So I could help you? But I failed, as always, so I’m just coming clean in front of you and you have to promise me you won’t tell anyone.”

The moment the last sentence leaves his mouth, you notice the apparent fear in his eyes, realising that he just shared an information with you that nobody really knows. It’s a secret he’s been hiding and keeping from everyone just to appear as the smartest one-- fooling everyone, including you. You feel even more stupid now, under his gaze. You feel played. You came to the tutoring, hoping to finally get a grip, when all you get is a person that is stepping all over the sandcastle of your fragile dreams, kicking every little piece of sand away with his lies. You know you shouldn’t feel so invested in this. You shouldn’t feel so hurt. But somehow, you still do.

“So you just told me you are lying to everyone and cheating on tests and you want me to keep it a secret from everyone?” you ask in disbelief.

“Yes.” he nods, eyes hopeful. He’s been lying for the last year as if his life was depending on it and now he wants you to do the same-- keep quiet in front of everyone.

“And what do I do when the professor asks me why I’m not getting any better? Huh? Ever thought of that?” you leash out, harshly chewing on your bottom lip in nerves. “I want to pass. And I want to do it fair and square.” you get out in between your teeth.

“I didn’t… I didn’t think of that yet, but-”

“Leave.” you say, looking him sternly into his eyes.

Osblaineweek2021, Day 2: Prose

I love book quotes. Looking at quotes is one of my favorite ways to to inspire myself to write more fic.

Here’s a small collection of book quotes (and recs!) of where I’ve “found” June and Nick.

This post contains spoilers for the following books/series:

- Lover Mine by JR Ward

Lover Mine by J.R. Ward

Summary:

John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown to himself and to those around him. After he was taken in by the Brotherhood, no one could guess what his true history was- or his true identity. Indeed, the fallen Brother Darius has returned, but with a different face and a very different destiny. As a vicious personal vendetta takes John into the heart of the war, he will need to call up on both who he is now and who he once was in order to face off against evil incarnate. Xhex, a symphath assassin, has long steeled herself against the attraction between her and John Matthew. Having already lost one lover to madness, she will not allow the male of worth to fall prey to the darkness of her twisted life. When fate intervenes, however, the two discover that love, like destiny, is inevitable between soul mates.

It's basically a paranormal love story between two warriors. He's really young (although he's actually a reincarnation of a very old vampire warrior, but he doesn't know that), and she's like 300 years older than him. In this book, she's been raped and abused by a guy who also used to bully him. She escapes, but he saves her life. She's hungry for revenge and wants to die after achieving that goal, but of course eventually changes her mind. In the end he actually serves her rapist to her on a silver platter so that she can kill him (sound like anyone we know?). He literally holds the guy down while she kills him.

They're my ultimate favorite ship in this series, and IMO their relationship eventually develops into one of the strongest ones. This series is a bit of a hit-or-miss for most people, because the language and the writing style are pretty ridiculous in all seriousness. If you decide to read this, I recommend starting the series from the beginning because John and Xhex meet for the first time several books before this one, LOL.

This is a young adult fantasy romance, and basically, Khalid is a lot like Nick. He’s made mistakes that he needs to own, but at the same time he’s forced to commit atrocities he doesn’t want to do. He hates himself and doesn’t believe himself to be worthy of love, and yet he falls in love with Shazi. He's viewed as the villain of the story by everyone aside from Shazi and a few other characters until almost the end of the 2nd book.

Fantasy romance with explicit sex scenes, and book 2 is a lot better than book 1. Our main character Feyre falls for a really boring fae guy, but also meets the hottest guy she’s ever known. The first guy of course isn't the real love interest (this is a twist this author loves to do). They all end up as prisoners, and the 2nd guy saves her life when the 1st one is totally useless. He also makes her hate him as he does it because he has to. After getting out, she tries to make her old relationship work, but it doesn’t, and guess who swoops in?

I do see some Nick in Rhysand (in addition to his role in the love triangle). They’re both traumatized and prefer to keep a lot of their feelings to themselves. I also see some of the same selflessness in both of them. Rhysand wants Feyre to choose him because she loves him, but he’s willing to accept that she may not, and doesn’t tell her that they’re pretty much destined to be together (it’s a supernatural thing, and he will suffer a lot if she decides she doesn’t want him).

PSA Regarding my Anniversary Anthology

Hi all

I have an announcement regarding my Anniversary Anthology series.

As is so often the case, my plans have snowballed and are subject to my obsessive compulsive tendency to get into areas of minutiae.

My original plan regarding the anniversary anthology was to release fics that celebrated the Sailor Stars story arc’s 25th anniversary and the 30th anniversaries of Codename: Sailor V, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, with a particular focus paid to character for whom 2021-2022 would mark their personal 30th anniversaries. This would also have included stories released for birthdays too.*

In other words, I’d have released a fic in March about Sailor Mercury as March 2022 because that would be her 30th anniversary (if you go by publication dates). Then one about Sailor Mars in April for her 30th anniversary, etc.

This presented a few problems.

The first is that the original release date of Sailor Moon Chapter 1 and its publication date isn’t the same. The former is 28 December 1991 and the latter is sometime between the 1st and 6th of February 1992 depending on what source you go by.

The second was that many significant and beloved characters appeared in the first chapter alone; Usagi, Mamoru, Luna, Jadeite, etc.

The third was that there are obviously different versions of Sailor Moon, the manga and the anime merely being the most well known.

The fourth was that 2021-2022 wasn’t simply the dawn of Codename: Sailor V and Sailor Moon, but of the franchise as a whole. I wanted to do stories that celebrated characters and aspects of the series BEYOND just the ‘Dark Kingdom’ storyline.

So I have variously written, plotted or at least intended to write stories that touch upon just about every major character in the series along with some of the core aspects and themes within it. Now you see where the OCD side of this comes in.

Anyway, to that end I thought why not release the bulk of these in January, between 28 December 2021 and 01 February 2022. In other words, between the two debatable dates for Sailor Moon Chapter 1’s debut I would release stories for the franchise as a whole, whilst doing other stories throughout the year to celebrate specific characters like I said above (March for Mercury, April for Mars, etc).

But, as time has gone I realise I have forgotten certain characters to celebrate. For example, at the start of my anthology I did fics about the Starlights and Galaxia, releasing them around the dates that the first chapter of Stars was published.

However, not only were these about the anime rather than the manga versions, but I also wholly neglected to do anything for ChibiChibi, the Sailor Animamates and barely acknowledged Princess Kakuyuu.

Moreover, I kept feeling like I should do fics about more characters, more aspects of the franchise and even specific versions. E.g. in March I should not only do a Mercury story, but two for her manga and anime counterparts along with two more fics for the anime and manga versions of Beryl too.

Similarly, I felt like, if January was celebrating the franchise as a whole, then even if I’m celebrating stuff later in the year, they should still get acknowledged somehow in January, in effect meaning I would do two stories for each character.

The truth is, if I had planned this out better and had more time and energy maybe I could’ve done ALL this stuff and done it all when I wanted to.

Now though, plans have to change to accommodate real life, other fic commitments and the sheer volume of this anthology.

So, essentially I’m still broadly sticking to my intended schedule. But I am not on my own going to be celebrating literally EVERY character or aspect of Sailor Moon ever.

For example I am not going to have every single romantic relationship acknowledged at some point in one fic or another, not even if I just confined it to stuff supported by canon. Makoto’s love life alone could be multiple fics or one big fic with like 10 pairings within it! Not to mention toxic relationships like Beryl’s affections for Endymion or Demande’s lust for Petz.**

More importantly, rather than January being the ‘Sailor Moon franchise month’ where everything gets acknowledged, I’m at the very least expanding that deadline to at least 30th June 2022.

Not only would this be Usagi’s birthday in her 30th anniversary year, but it is also the day that Japan, Toei, Takeuchi and the fandom as a whole actually annually celebrates the franchise far and wide. And it is set to be the centrepiece of Sailor Moon’s 30th anniversary in 2022.

In addition, many major media franchises celebrate anniversaries throughout the ‘anniversary year’ and even release major events that pay tribute or mark the anniversary after the anniversary itself has come and gone.

For example, ‘The Time of the Doctor’ was a Doctor Who episode released over a month after Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary in 2013 but addressed a major piece of Doctor Who mythology within it. That same year there was little in the way of celebration of the Daleks, the arch villains of the Doctor Who franchise, when their 50th anniversary came and went. Instead they were major players in Doctor Who episodes released shortly before and after their own anniversary (including ‘Time of the Doctor’).

Similarly, the James Bond films ‘Die Another Day’ and ‘Skyfall’ marked the 40th and 50th anniversaries of ‘Dr. No’, the very first James Bond movie from 1962. But they were released a month or more after the specific anniversary date had come and gone.

I already had fics planned throughout the year for specific anniversaries, anyway but I feel it is therefore justifiable to shift many of the fics I have yet to write to later into the year, meaning that the 30th anniversary in effect plays out across the year.

Of course, I do apologise to anyone who feels that this is all a bit of a copout. That if I was going to bother marking this anniversary in multiple ways I should have worked harder to get everything prepped for before the actual 30th anniversary date in February comes and goes. Or indeed that I am skimping out by not acknowledging everything there is to acknowledge, like every character’s birthday or individual fics for each character rather than one fic about multiple characters (like the Outers) or acknowledge every version of each character.

All I can say is that, life has not dealt me a good hand this year and December in particular is going to be a major crunch time for me due to family and work commitments, even aside from the standard Christmas/New Year’s holidays.

Again, I am sorry to anyone who might feel I am copping out with this. I am still going to try and get out as many fics a possible in January but I doubt everything I had planned is going to get done.

*Specifically, those of the Usagi, Mamoru and the Inner Senshi as they were the protagonists of the Dark Kingdom arc, so 2021-2022 was their ‘30th anniversary birthdays’.

However, I also did a fic for Setsuna’s birthday meant to represent the Outers as a whole given their importance to Sailor Moon over all. I will be repeating that process for Hotaru’s birthday in 2022.

At the last minute I also included Seiya too as he/she was the leader of the Sailor Starlights so in effect represented.

**Across my fics though pretty much all the seriously major relationships from the series get at least a nod within a fic or two, even if they don’t have dedicated fics in their own right. UsagixMamoru, KunzitexZoisite, ChibiusaxHelios, SeiyaxUsagi, HarukaxMichiru, etc.

Consider these acknowledgements as placeholders or standins for the theme of romantic love within the series as a whole.

So I’m currently reading these on-going multi-chaptered fics that I’m currently hooked on:

a. The Forest Cat Cafe by @historicfailure - Yamato x Reader, Modern AU

I’m a Yamato simp. ‘Nuff said. I think he is such a breath of fresh air in the series. Plus, there aren’t that many Yamato fics out there, so when the author recently put out this fic, I knew I had to check it out. Only the 1st chapter’s just been released, and it got me hooked already -- it’s that good! And I love reading the writer’s works. I love their writing style, and how their stories unfold, so right now I know this will turn out great, as well.

b. Books and Passion by Vozte - Kakashi x Reader, Canon Universe

As you know very well... I am first and foremost, a Kakashi simp. :)) Anyway, I love this story. I like how it’s coming along, so far. I’m a fan of slow burn tropes, and this one is. I love seeing the development of a relationship between the two characters. For me, it makes me appreciate and understand the characters and the story more, and it’s just more realistic. I like how the relationship of Kakashi and the MC are explored in this fic, and how it slowly builds up to something more, and that it’s built more on love, trust and of course, a little bit history between the two of them. Plus, their scenes are just too sweet, so fluffy.

c. Golden series by @sup-hoes-its-me - Kakashi x Reader, Canon Universe

This was already finished, and I’ve read it a long time ago. But I really loved it so much. I think it was beautifully written, at the same time, the author was able to capture Kakashi’s emotions and personality perfectly, like how he would react to that kind of situation. The emotions just seem realistic for me, too. And I like how the author ended the story, because really in my opinion, Kakashi deserves a better life, and that he is not really as emotionally stunted as majority of the fandom thinks him to be. :D

5. What are your fanfic pet peeves? Do they have a huge effect on whether or not you decide to read something?

Hmm, I know... to each his/her own, but I’m not really much into the kinky stuff. As much as possible, I also avoid plots like FWB, one-night stands, and some that involves certain kinks. I’m just not comfortable reading them. And yes, they do have a huge effect on whether or not I decide to read a fic. I also don’t like it when the MC displays too much immature behavior, or is a little bit insufferable... unless, there is a redemption at the end because I understand there is a need to show a contrast to see how much growth the character gained.

Ummm, I’m also not comfortable reading fics with a very huge age gap difference (especially when they had a student-teacher relationship before). It’s just... when I try to imagine it happening in real life, the idea just creeps me out... No offense to anyone who might like this concept. It’s just my preference hehe.

38. What does your writing process look like? How chaotic is it on a scale of 1 (very tame) to 10 (you can’t handle this kind of chaos)?

Ummm, I’m not sure... probably a 4 or a 5? Normally, when I have an idea, I write it down. Then when I get the time and the inspiration, I go back to that and try to write the whole thing. The process usually goes smoothly at the beginning, but when I get to the ending I experience some difficulties because I struggle so much at closing the story, hehe...

39. What’s something about your writing that you pride yourself on?

I’m not reaaaaally sure about this... hmmm, because I never really take that much pride on everything I make. So if we just rephrase the sentence to “What is it about your writing that you do like?”, I guess it’s that I just write whatever the heck I want, and that I write for myself, first and foremost.

This is a 63k monster that I wrote in six days, focusing on the effects of starvation on the body and mind. Crash has two sequels, And He’s Gotta be Fresh from the Fight and Into Your Heart, I’ll Beat Again, both of which are complete.

4 Your personal fav:

Tough choice... I’d probably have to say Crash because it’s my baby. As I’ve said before, I woke up at 4:30am with a song in my head (Take Me to the Hospital by the Prodigy) and the first line: “Adrien was starving.” Crash is what started me writing for the fandom and how I made almost all my new friends here.

5 Your fav scene:

Oh, this is hard. I’ve actually written so much that I don’t recall all the scenes I’ve written? But I can say that I was so ready to write the last chapter of Heart. It’s tooth-rotting Christmas fluff that was Adrien and Marinette’s happy ending after 260k+ words of angst. That scene isn’t my favorite scene by far, but it was one of the most satisfying to write.

6 A fic or scene that challenged you:

Definitely Couffaine Coffee Conundrum, a Lukanette & Adrigami piece. My server anniversary giftee, Rikka, requested a fluffy double date with the pairings, but all my brain wanted to do was make it angsty. I had to write the fic twice.

7 A line of writing you’re proud of:

This is from my as of yet unpublished Sleeping Beauty AU (publication date: February 1st, 2021!). I’m proud of this line in particular because I don’t often write lines that are just... pretty. I nail body language, but most of my writing is straightforward and if not ugly, certainly not beautiful.

Anyway, here’s the line:

Winter passed with one last, lingering gasp, the bony fingers of cold clinging to the days.

8 A comment that touched you:

I’ve gotten several comments that have touched me, but the most recent one was from a reader of Fight. They told me they liked my use of therapy in the fic and that they were considering getting therapy because they could see how much therapy had helped Adrien.

Another comment along the same lines was someone who realized that they’d been starving after reading the symptoms of starvation Adrien experienced in Crash. Being able to educate someone while entertaining them blows my mind.

9 Something that inspired your writing:

Definitely the good people on the Miraculous Fanworks Discord server, specifically @ladyofthenoodle, @sseagully, Rikka, and Sibby. I’ve developed so many stories because of those lovely ladies, and have received so much support and encouragement from the members of the server. One of my most popular recent fics, have the stars blotted out in a brilliant Morse code, started based on a discussion in the #writing-chat on that server, and @theladylu even drew some lovely fanart for it (featured below).

10 Your proudest accomplishment (that one scene; finally finishing that one fic; posting your first fic; etc):

Definitely finishing Heart. That happy ending was a long time in coming.

11. Do you have any writing goals for the next year?

Yes! I want to finish the second Choose Your Own Adventure story, a pre-reveal, post-relationship Adrienette fic focused on baking pies with Tom and Sabine. I also want to finish the Sleeping Beauty AU, which I’m on track for. Desperation would be a great fic to finish; I started that one, got to chapter 5, and quit because it was too sad, haha! And I’m working on an original work that started out as an Adrienette Witch AU titled Must Be the Season of the Witch that I’d like to finish sometime in the next six months.

Summary: When Jungkook gets injured just before an important game, he sets out to find his soulmate to heal him. In a world where soulmates can heal all kinds of illnesses by kissing, he’s desperate to find his, even if he doesn’t know you yet. What happens if he does find you? Jungkook’s luck seemed to have run out. He couldn’t believe he injured his leg just before an important game. The game that if he didn’t play, he could lose an opportunity for a scholarship and sponsors. He was careless and now he’s got nothing to blame but himself. He had to get stitches for it, and the doctor said he needs to let it heal for weeks. But, Jungkook doesn’t have the time to wait for that, so he’s made up his mind to find his soulmate. Even though the soulmate culture is kinda odd, he’s willing to put up with it if that means he would be healed.

His girlfriend would probably hate him for it but they weren’t working out like they used to anyway. they were fighting most days now, and he wasn’t really sure anymore if he still loves her or he just loves the idea of her.

So, tomorrow he’s gonna go to that Jay dope guy who’s an acquaintance of his best friend Namjoon. Joon said that his crack dealer looking acquaintance could help Jungkook find his soulmate. Says, he’s selling some kind of drink to help someone find their soulmate in a dream. It sounds crackheady already, but Jungkook’s lazy and doesn’t know how to find his soulmate, so he’s willing to try everything easy to find her.

When Jungkook arrived at Jay Dope’s shop, albeit he had quite a hard time because of his leg, the first thing he noticed was the weird but sick figurines, the place looked hippy, but it smelled good. He was still waiting for this Jay Dope guy to show though, and he didn’t have to wait long as he appeared a few seconds coming from the back room.

“Hi, how may i help you?” The crack dealer looking guy said. “Uhh, my friend said I could buy a soulmate drink here?” Jungkook timidly said. “Oh, you’re looking for your soulmate…why? got sick of your girlfriend already?” Wtf. How did this guy even know he had a girlfriend? he’s such a creep.

“Um, how did you even know I had a girlfriend?” he asked, Jay dope just ignored his question. “I’m just gonna get it at the back, cos I keep it cool yk? in the fridge,” the weird guy said. He appeared a few seconds after. “That will be one happy memory please.” Jay dope says as he hands jungkook the drink. “Huh?” Jungkook asked. “You need to give me one of your happy memories, that’s the price I’m asking for the drink.” He said. Was he being serious right now? lmao, well if that’s really the payment he wants for the drink then so be it. “Uh, don’t you know it already? you seemed to know i have a girlfriend so-” Jungkook implied. “Well yes, but I need you to tell me and grant me permission to take it.” the guy said. “Oh, okay.” Jungkook agrees and tells the weird seller about that time when he got the scar on his left cheek, but he was still happy ‘cause he got to beat his older brother and won their bet. The winner would get to play on the computer all week.

Jungkook left the shop feeling a little disoriented, it seemed like he felt sad for some reason he didn’t know why? whatever, once he finds his soulmate, he’s sure he’ll be happy again. During the night, Jungkook took the drink out of his bag. He was gonna try and see if it was really effective, the can was color blue. And there were words written on it. They were: Good night, have a good dream. A dream is a wish your heart makes, whenever you’re fast asleep. You’ll find your soulmate, they will be the first person you’ll see.

What kind of crack is that? isn’t the 2nd line some lyrics from a disney song. fck, that drink better be real and effective though, because Jungkook’s head hurt after leaving that shop. He drank it and fell asleep soon after. And then he was dreaming, He was in their university, Having a class. But there was no one else, well except now. A girl just came in, she was kinda cute. Shit, is this what the drink’s talking about? Is she his soulmate? he went up to her and looked at her closely. he could see her face clearer now. Doe eyes and plump lips. Long lashes. A cute big nose just like his. But she doesn’t seem to notice him? he was quite frustrated. The classroom they were on was the room Jungkook used for his psychology class, so does it mean that they shared the same class too?

Well Jungkook was gonna find out soon anyway, tomorrow he’ll find you. Before the dream ended, you seem to have dropped your ID in the classroom and Jungkook saw your name. Y/N. great! if this isn’t some weird hallucination it’ll be easier to find you now.

“Hyung, I hope this really works because I can’t wait to be able to walk properly again. I hate these crutches.” Jungkook whined.

“Well, did you find her? did the drink work I mean,” Namjoon asked, looking at his friend with concerned eyes. “Yes, I think it did. I saw a girl, her pretty features were so clear. her name’s Y/N and i think we share the same psychology class.”

“Wow. That shit hoseok gave you must’ve been some really expensive crack huh?” His bestfriend teased. “Hoseok? that’s Jay dope’s real name? whatever hyung, you were the one who recommended the guy to me in the 1st place. He seems legit though, even if he’s such a creep.” Jungkook retorted. “Anyway, I need to find y/n and if I’m correct she will be in our psychology class now. So, I’ll be going bye.” Jungkook said as he hopped away from his friend.

When he entered the classroom, the first thing his eyes focuses on is finding you. But maybe he was too early because you weren’t there yet. He was almost worried you were absent when he noticed your form entering the class, you took a seat in the middle and Jungkook decided he had to talk to you now. Seeing as the seat beside you was still empty, he went and sat next to you.

“Oh, i forgot to put some stuff there but my friend is coming, can you maybe transfer?” You said kindly to him, but immediately regretted it when you saw his injured leg. You just noticed it right now. “Um… It’s kind of hard for me to stand up right now, my leg’s kinda throbbing. Can I just sit next to you please?” Jungkook half lied, it was kinda true anyway his leg was being a pain in his dumb ass. “Oh, okay. I guess my friend can just sit at the back.” you meekly replied. “Y/N. your name’s y/n right?” He knows you? this popular jock knows you? “Yes, but how do you know me?” “I know you because I think you’re my soulmate.” He replied, shocking you. He must be joking right? how could you two be soulmates you both were so different? He was hot and you weren’t really that hot.

“Are you pranking me or something? cause I don’t have time for your jokes right now, mr.soccer player.” You retorted. “I’m not y/n, you need to believe me. I drank a soulmate finding drink and I dreamt about you. And I didn’t even know you, I didn’t even realize we shared the same class until today.” Well, at least he looked sincere when he confessed that to you. “Well, why did you want to find me anyway?” You asked. “Because I kinda wanna ask you for a favor. It’s about my leg…”

Is he gonna say what you think he’s gonna say, because you feel uncomfortable already. “Can you kiss me to heal me? I really need your help baby. I can’t afford to miss the game, my scholarship (and sponsors- but he didn’t say it) is on the line, my life depends on it. Please y/n…?” He pleaded. damn, you hate those big beautiful doe eyes- they were staring right through your soul. It didn’t help that he was so close to you now, you could smell his sweet scent, and you can’t deny how handsomer he is up close.

“Don’t call me baby, cause I’m not your baby.” You said though the pet name made your heart skip a little. “And don’t you have a girlfriend? what is she gonna feel when she finds out your kissing other girls? Also, I don’t even know you and I sure as hell won’t kiss a stranger. What if you just want to get in my pants? What if you’re a horny fck boy?” You said to him. “You say you don’t know me, but you knew I had a girlfriend? how did you know that then? were you interested in me?” He says and you’re completely caught off guard.

“As if. My friend told me, she likes to gossip about people.” you replied. “Well, Why don’t we get to know each other? Hi, my name’s Jeon Jungkook and I’m a soccer player. My girlfriend and I are having a rough time right now, but that doesn’t mean I’m a fckboy looking for chicks to pick up.” He says smiling stupidly at you. You already hate his smile.

“Hello, Jungkook. I’m y/n and I actually don’t fucking care. I’m sure you can wait a few weeks for your leg to heal, because I sure as hell won’t be kissing you.” You snapped at him. “Wtf. C'mon y/n don’t you have a heart? I could lose a scholarship opportunity here, If you help me, promise I’ll help you back when you’re sick. Namjoon even said that a soulmate’s kiss doesn’t only have amazing healing properties, but also luck.” He begged. Luck? well if that means winning the lottery, you could use some of that. You were broke too. anyway wasn’t he rich? why did he need a scholarship then?

“I need the scholarship cause my parents won’t pay for my tuition anymore. They didn’t like that I played soccer. They said I should’ve focused more on my education. But, I wanna play it’s my dream you know?” He said sadly, he looked so cute with a pout on his handsome face. And you were starting to get him. You wanna follow your dreams too, If you had one- because right now you didn’t even know what’s going on with your life.

“If I agree to help you, What about your girlfriend? Wait- why can’t we take a blood transfusion instead? I heard it has the same healing effect.” You suggested. “B-Blood transfusion? Idk, that seems more exhausting to me. What if you’re not healthy enough for a blood transfusion? And It would take up quite a lot of blood too. Doesn’t kissing seem a better option? I won’t owe you more?” He persuaded.

“I’m not really that comfortable with kissing you while you have a girlfriend, Jungkook. And maybe even if you didn’t have one too.” You confessed honestly. “I don’t wanna take advantage on you too, Y/N. But, I’m kinda afraid of needles and blood…” Oh. So that’s why he doesn’t wanna do a blood transfusion.

“Well, what are we gonna do? I wanna help you but idk if I can.” You sighed. “You’re really gonna help me now? that’s so great y/n! I could kiss you- oh. lol.” he squealed.

“You should just kiss him, you lucky whore.” A voice familiar to you said, it was from behind you. “Wtf Charlie? why are you eavesdropping on a personal conversation?” You glared at her. “Well, you two weren’t really being quiet about it, the whole class could hear you if they wanted too. Also, I’m just proving a point. Why don’t you just kiss mr. handsome here? It’s a win-win situation. He gets healed, and you both get your luck. Why are you hesitating so much anyway? You like kissing. Scratch that- you get off to it, it’s kinda your kink. Maybe because you’ve never been k-” You Interrupted her before she could say something even worse.

“Charlie you need to shut the fck up, before I fcking lose it and murder you right now.” You warned your friend looking at her right in the eye, You were annoyed at her talkativeness. “You have a kiss kink?” Jungkook’s cute dumb ass asked, you felt really embarrassed now. “No, I don’t. She’s just lying cause she wants me to make out with you and tell her the details after.” You lied, well half lied cause Charlie would probably want you to tell her the details after smooching with someone hot.

“I am not lying. Believe me soccer player, she’d die to kiss someone hot like you.” Charlie then winked at your hot soulmate. “That’s it. I’m sure you don’t mind if I tell yoongi you have a crush on him right now, I’m really gonna get up and talk to him now-” You stand up, moving as if to go to min yoongi’s whereabouts which you actually didn’t know. All you know was that he was a music major and he seemed cold to people in a hot kinda way, or more like hot for your friend kinda way.

“No! y/n wait please I’m so sorry! you’re a virgin and you’re lesbian. Sorry kook, I was lying.” She screamed. You sat back down, “Yeah, you better shut that mouth if you don’t want yoongi to know.” You smirked evilly at your friend. She just nodded submissively. “Um, y/n about us kissing? I could just tell my girlfriend and if she allows me, will you do it?” Jungkook said, you almost forgot about him. “Fine, but let me think about it for a bit too. (it’ll be my first kiss you know, she said in her head) If I do it, you’re really gonna owe me big time. And I’m not joking when I say I want a lifetime supply of Banana sundaes. At my fave icecream shop okay?”

“Sure. I’m a fan of sweet things too you know?” He said, you just smiled at him. We must really be soulmates then. The bell rang just then, your professor was absent but she left some activity for you guys to do, so that’s why you were able to converse freely and for a long time.

1 Hi! Same anon here. First, I want to thank you for responding and for understanding where my anxiety was coming from. I was honestly super afraid to even write that ask because sometimes words on screen can come across differently other than what's intended but I was hoping it's okay to reach out. I would never want to offend or make anyone's day bad, especially an author that I love!!! Secondly, yes you did calm my worries (and very effectively) and now I'm really looking forward to you

(2) writing that fic. For some reason when I 1st saw the thread, I thought it was going to be CPS plot then opt1 vs opt2. I know it sounds irrational but I got so anxious. Your plan is clearly so much better (I'm sorry for doubting). The mess w/ M ends at the start bec of conflicting views so she's not involved (w/ bonus therapy & Michael realizing it's unhealthy). Then after that is when you bring in the kid+CPS so it makes Michael seeking Alex satisfying. He chooses to go to Alex bec it's Alex.

(3) Michael choosing to go to Alex & trusting that he's got his back makes me so happy. I'm already excited for the conversation you mentioned, if you do write it. Hi Nonnie-

Hey, no need to thank me and it’s always okay to reach out, I like to think of myself as a friendly, easy going person and approachable. (No one tell me different, okay!) And I dunno if you follow my messy blog but this show does a number on my head as well. I thought I was prepared for how things were going to go in season 2 based on the synopsis overview that was released. I’m pretty malex-only in my shipping on this show but I’m not blind, I could see how bad things were between them after 1x13 and how little they seemed to understand one another. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to overcome that divide (it took me over 100,000 words to get there in my own story, haha) I also knew I was going to watch them both have other relationships (though I thought Alex was going to be further in his pursuits by 2x10 than he is).

However knowing and experiencing are two different things. There’s been curveballs thrown this season that have seriously shaken my understanding of the characters and the journey they are on- and the jury is still out on whether it’s been a good journey since there’s 3 more episodes left in season 2.

Anyway- I have no desire to write a story where Michael ends up with Alex because he can’t have Maria. That’s not fair to Alex like you said in your previous ask, but it’s also a lack of agency for Michael. I’m not a multishipper, so I spend a lot of time thinking about how Maria and Michael break up (If Malex is Endgame, there’s a breakup coming) and imagining various scenarios that don’t make me hate the characters. I want a Malex reunion that is fully earned on both sides, Maria dumping Michael and Alex being a fallback? Meh, I do not want that. Plus why would Alex take him back? Also I have serious doubts about Michael wanting to be with anyone if he gets dumped after trying very hard to be a good boyfriend- he’s pretty negative as it is, that sort of experience would send him back into building a ship and blasting off the planet mode.

So I want something mutual, or I want it to be Michael’s decision. And honestly pre-season 2 I thought it was going to be the mutual, “eh we’re better off as friends” petering out of romance, but that hasn’t been the case on screen. I’m fairly certain that Malex back together is the goal but how it happens, still a mystery. Right now when I think about future well-adjusted Malex stories in my head, I just handwave the breakups as “yep it didn’t work out” just based on how canon is going.

I’m glad my little idea is of interest to you, and depending on how season 2 ends, there’s a good chance this idea will see the light of day in some form. I’m not good at total AU writing, I prefer to write within in the bounds of canon, so as long as 2x13 doesn’t annihilate my understanding of Michael, I’m game to put that boy into therapy!

Supplementary canon: 17 - 18 in Seasons 1-6, 18-19 in Seasons 7-8.

Headcanon: I take the birthdays and ages in the Paladin Handbook as if the book were written on January 1st, so Hunk is only three months younger than pre-space whale Keith, and he's closer in age to (psw) Keith than to Lance.

Ethnicity:

Supplementary Canon: Half Samoan, half African-American.

Headcanon: Samoan on his dad's side, African-American on his mom's. Yes, I have his entire family figured out. They were relatively major characters in a fic I was hyperfixated on writing for a few months.

Sure!

Which is to say, I've entertained pretty much every gender headcanon there is for Hunk except cis girl.

Most of the time I headcanon him as someone who, well, doesn't necessarily actively identify as arospec, but acknowledges that he has NO idea how to differentiate between romantic and platonic attraction. He just? loves people? Once the other person is like "this is what our relationship is" it's a lot easier for him to then develop his feelings along the appropriate track, but like, for example, if Pidge, his best friend who he has a 100% platonic relationship with and has never wanted anything different from, was suddenly like "hey, i wanna date you!" he probably would be like "yeah, okay, sure, we can try that!" (he might be confused because Pidge hasn't historically been romantically attracted to people. But if he was convinced she was serious). And that's not because he's secretly harboring romantic feelings for her, he's just sort of down for developing romantic feelings for any of his most special people at a moment's notice – OR for nurturing a hearty platonic love that can never be broken.

I have written him as more alloromantic, though – but he always values his friendships as much as his romances.

I've seen headcanons that Keith can't digest vegetables because of his Galra heritage. I'm not sure if I hold that headcanon 100%, because he is still half-human, but I definitely agree that Galra are carnivores (look at the teeth) and Keith is probably malnourished. Even his human parent is big and buff and Keith... is not. If he'd been raised by his dad throughout his childhood maybe he would have grown up beefier and taller (since I'm sure his dad probably at least somewhat understood the Galra diet from having lived with Krolia), buuut his dad died when Keith was prepubescent and then he was in the foster system and... yeah he probably wasn't getting the optimized diet for his particular interspecies genetic makeup.

I like to think that he grew up with a couple of Very Strange Health Conditions that turned out to just be Galra things, like UV vision and two sets of baby teeth and ridges of bone protruding from.his scalp like Acxa has (hello, big poofy bangs to hide that).

Also, any time he had to do a blood test or a urine test at the doctor's it just... did not provide anything resembling useful information.

Doctor: I... don't know what I'm looking at here exactly but we've run the test multiple times and this seems to be your actual blood? How do you have this much iron in your blood?? Maybe eat... less meat?

Hunk, looking at the same results years later, having adjusted for Galra heritage: Keith, you're anemic.

I honestly don't know what Keith's background would be, but I think he's sort of... generally agnostic? Like, he believes in a higher power but not necessarily a sentient one or something to be worshipped. It's more like a big spiritual pulse through the multiverse that connects everything and everyone – fate, but with free will. It's what he taps into to access his nigh psychic abilities, which I've talked about before but maybe not since I made this sideblog so let me know if you want me to make a post about that.

Finished with caught blue-handed, my first RvB fic (aside from the ass fax meme and McD's stories used to cleanse my brain palette). There were definite high and low moments, but I'm pleased with the outcome overall.

As is customary at the end of any project, personal or work-related, I write out some "lessons learned" in order to reflect and provide myself insight for improvement. Meaning, I barf out a shitload of text to figure out how to be better at doing stuff. So if you feel like wasting 5 minutes reading some rambling, sMASH that link below.

Runtime: June 17, 2019 - August 11, 2019

Word count: 30261 (4963 per chapter average sans 1st chapter)

Fun Stuff First (favorite moments)

Hands down, all the Grimmons dates in the Grif chapters, where the day/night/date continued as expected, mostly. Easiest, most fun, and most natural to write. This was probably due to the form being more back and forth described-but-unsaid dialogue, a breather from the one-sided "I AM GRIF/SIMMONS heRe aRE mY ThOUGhts hElp i aM in loVe" dialect I originally started with. I keep saying that I really wanna do comics of all the little scenes some time in the future, so I should do that. And tHEY KISS AHHHHHHH.

Creatrix's commissioned art for the beach date! She did a freakin' awesome job, I literally squealed and was grinning for like 10 minutes straight when I got it (just as I'm doing now that I'm looking at it again). Art is a magical thing. Always support your favorite and fellow artists in whatever way you can!

Grif's interactions with Lopez and Sarge in ch 3. I think how that tiny section was written was more true to canon voicing than any other part of the story, probably because I wasn't worrying about forcing Grimmons down everyone's throats.

Caboose liking Simmons because he's part robot.

The idea that Grif would ever get jealous of Caboose.

On the same vein, finding as many excuses to use Caboose in italics as possible (ex., "Did Caboose just call you a dick?", "You took relationship advice. From Caboose.", "Are you seriously getting jealous?! Of fucking Caboose?!”).

What Did Well (and what didn't)

Writing serially with your first chapter as a hard outline is both a blessing and a curse. I think the first chapter was voiced well, a good length to hook and let readers know what to expect for the most part, and provided a mini set of prompts for me to help set up following chapters. However, the skeleton plot I wrote caused me to freeze while starting a couple chapters because I had no idea on how to get from point A to B, feeling like I needed to be more creative to get there. On the opposite swing of the pendulum, it had me stuck creatively at times because of the mindset, "Well now I have to write about this."

Writing with swapping POVs is fun for character study and good (but difficult) practice for trying to maintain a consistent writing voice. I'm pretty self-conscious about how I tend to write (way too verbose/clinical at times, so much going back and deleting, as I'm doing right now). Going into this, I 100% thought that the Simmons chapters would be the easiest to write (as far as voicing goes because of inherent anxiety and my vernacular in general). And man, was I 100% wrong. (Except for that fake smut chapter which had me dying while coming up with cringey and cliched things for Simmons to think and came far too naturally which raises concerns for myself.) The other big problem with alternating POVs was that I didn't want to break the flow of thought by ending a chapter until it went to the other person. That resulted in chapters with 3 or 4 scene breaks in the middle, which felt dragged out sometimes and would have come off better as individual chapters.

Getting to Grif to realize he's crushing. Fuck dude, that was the hardest chapter, which is why it ended up taking longer than all the others (plus the fact that I just returned from a 10 day vacation at the time). I just didn't know how to pull it off convincingly, and it's most likely the weakest part of the whole plot. If I built up him thinking about it and persuading himself more in a less repetitive way, it probably would've been more effective. Or realizing that it's been going on/repressed probably for a decade and not on a whim like, "Oh hmm, I shall use my brain today, oops I am in love, when'd that happen?" I absolutely chalk this up to a trait of mine, where if information is discovered and is deemed to be true/factual in some way by my brain, then I switch gears completely (as Grif is projecting for me here).

Nice Try, Next... (takeaways)

Allow more leniency by not forcing a structure from the beginning (re: POV swaps and vaguely specific plot points).

Show what characters think through action rather than literally saying what they're thinking. (To be fair, gave myself an excuse with this 'cause of POV.)

Shorter chapters. Break when it feels right.

More drawing. Helped refresh my brain doing a different kind of creative thing in between bursts of writing. But uh, not too much drawing, because that created procrastination.

Less is more; clearer and more concise writing style. Try not to think about five things at once and repeatedly end up with the pattern of, "Grif said, 'This,' while doing that, and this is what he is admitting to thinking about himself doing that (but sometimes he thought about this other thing, too, not like he'd say it out loud)."

When writing POV specifically, careful about making too much content internalized thought. I get out of control and go on a neurotic rampage of "oh but they could be thinking this and this and this" and overanalyze things.

Update time!

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted an update regarding the progress of my stories. So for those of you wondering or haven’t been keeping up with my FFN profile, here’s the breakdown:

Keeping Strong: AU: If having a baby at seventeen isn't hard enough, everything in Sango's life had gone wrong and continued to spiral out of control. In sweeps Miroku, a flirtatious soon-to-be college student, who invites her to stay with him until she gets back on her feet. Hesitant to accept help from a stranger, Sango agrees, knowing she has to stay strong, for the sake of her child.

The final chapter/epilogue is in the editing phase. Once my wonderful beta is able to edit it, I will finish the process and post it asap, wrapping up a story that’s been alive for over a decade.

Porcelain Fists: A new evil threatens to destroy the future they worked so hard to protect, causing the Chosen Ones to travel 500 years into the past. As they battle their own inner demons, they come face to face with the real deal. Stuck in feudal Japan, they’re forced to face their desires, their fears, and the rage of one stubborn half-demon. InuyashaxEarthbound Crossover.

This is my back-burner story, so I don’t write unless I feel inspiration. However, the next chapter is almost done. I’m just working on the final scene, so hopefully I’ll be able to post something soon!

A Christmas Story: AU: Sometimes its the quieter moments that speak the loudest. A story of love, laughter, and friendship carried through the years during the most wonderful season of all. Full of fluff and Christmas cheer. Interconnecting One-shots. InuKag. MirSan.

This fic is only updated during the holiday season. I haven’t started working on the next chapter yet, but look for an update around December 1st.

Tomorrow’s Destiny: Everyone would get their happy ending. Even if she wasn’t a part of it.

Great news! I have written rough drafts of the next two chapters! Still needing some major editing, but once Keeping Strong is wrapped up, I’m hoping to keep this story updated pretty frequently. So keep an eye out!

Fatal Attraction: “Don’t let two men fall in love with you, Kagome,” her mother urged. “It’s not the kind of thing that ends well.” If only Kagome had known how true her words could be. With a twisted plot and a deadly love triangle, it’s a race against time to reverse the enchantment before it evolves into fatal chaos that no one can walk away from.

This is my newest fic, but unfortunately hasn’t had much love yet due to me wanting to wrap up some of my older fics. I haven’t started working on the next chapter yet, but I’m hoping to get around to it sooner rather than later.

Double Shot of Heaven: AU: Drinking it not a bad thing after a break up. In fact, it’s a damn good coping mechanism for Kagome Higurashi, especially at the bar with other heartbroken patrons. A guy buys her a drink, and then two, and then things get a little out of hand. Three-shot. Written for INUKAG week on Tumblr.

This was originally born from a tumblr prompt, but the next chapter is giving me a little trouble in the dialogue department. When I do finish the chapter, it will be posted here as well as FFN.

Ripple Effect: AU: When Inuyasha returns from a seven years long absence, he is ready to ease back into his old life. Everything seems the same; nothing out of place. Until he comes across the most important person to his heart.

As mentioned before, this fic is currently on HIATUS. Due to wanting to rewrite and take the story in a similar but different direction, I have decided to wait until I catch up on a few of my other fics before diving head-first into this one. I want to do this story justice, and in order to do that, I will be doing a complete overhaul with a possible title change. I will update this fic when these changes are happening, as well as keep my FFN profile up to date as well.

i was gonna say one of the best fics i ever read was in 1st person but for a gem like that there’s countless countless terrible ones

Yeah, it’s--I don’t know. It almost never occurs to me as a mode, and never did--even when I was a bitty kid writing terrible derivative shit in my 8 1/2x11 spiral-bounds, I never wrote in first person. (I’ve also never written a self-insert though, which I’m told is common, so maybe those two go together.) It’s a voice that can be used to very great effect, but as you say, the way it’s misused makes it almost a joke. Same with second person--worse, in that case, because people think you’re pretentious as well as terrible. :) The point is that you should use the narrative voice that best fits the story you’re telling, and a lot of people... well, to paint with a very broad brush, a lot of people don’t think super hard about the story they’re telling. What it means, what it is.

In the case of self-insert porn I guess it doesn’t matter, but if that porn isn’t porn so much as it’s... say, YA apocalyptic Look At This Special Unique Girl, She’s Different porn, is the first person really accomplishing much? Probably not. Especially because (amateurish) writers very, very rarely acknowledge the real limits of the first person, which are: not only does the narrator not know what the other characters are thinking/feeling beyond what they can see and interpret, very VERY often a person doesn’t even fully understand what they themselves are feeling, in the moment. If you put it in past-tense you can avoid that, a little, but then--how much do you really remember, in yourself, of the things you felt and thought? It doesn’t feel true, from the first person POV, whereas the distance provided by third person limited at least lets us handwave with literary convention. The narrative voice remembers, even if the character doesn’t totally. Stories that really acknowledge and work within this first person limitation tend to be better, in my experience, even if they’re really hard to find. If you’ve given yourself a logistical challenge, then Use It, Damn It. Limitation is where creativity thrives!

After Effects - Takes place after chapter 159 of the manga. Hurt/comfort from both Aizawa and Yamada. Aizawa deals with this guilt over the incidents withthe precepts and Yamada deals with his fears of losing the one he loves.

After Hours - Aizawa and Yamada both work late on Fridays, but unlike most nights, their schedules sync up, and they get to come home together. They unwind from their work and indulge in some cuddles. This is super fluffy.

Don’t Kid Yourself - Chapters: [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] [9]My multichapter angst fic, completed 9/9 chapters. It’s a very painful, slow burn that’s honestly hard to describe. Through much struggle and many confused feelings, Aizawa and Yamada figure out what love is.

Shots Fired - I forgot to rate this one, but it’s Mature for Violence (I am not kidding, take this seriously). This is another hurt/comfort fic. I can’t get into the details without giving away the twist.

Chilly Afternoon - At some point I discovered I needed to stop hurting Aizawa and Yamada. So I made them a nice little coffee date in the snow. Pure fluff. It’s a short read.

Soft - Short, sweet, fluff. Tumblr exclusive. This one is only a few hundred words.

Ice It - Yamada takes a beating doing some hero work and heads to Aizawa’s to get patched up. Aizawa takes care of him and Yamada lets a confession slip.

Drop the Beat - They’ve been on the hero scene for a few years, but have lost touch. Aizawa follows a lead on a villain to a shady bar and is surprised to find a certain unforgettable blond doing a DJ side gig. Aizawa and Yamada team up to take down the villain. Everything doesn’t quite go as planned. This the most action-intensive fic I’ve written.

Overworked - Aizawa is the last person that should be trying to convince someone to take a break and get some sleep, but Yamada’s been pushing himself too hard and someone has to do it. This is domestic fluff.

Bask - Aizawa and Yamada share a sweet, fluffy date in the park.

Why is NSFW 18 +

This post is focused on U.S. law, policy and culture. This post does not constitute legal advice. This blog does not offer legal advice. And a lot of this is my own personal opinion.

Let’s get something straight, America was founded by puritans and if conservative lawmakers could outright ban porn, they would.

However, the 1st amendment gives U.S. citizen a right to free speech and freedom of speech and expression is another important American value.

The Supreme Court has ruled that laws cannot “reduce the adult population...to reading only what is fit for children.” (source). Because adults have a right to freedom of speech.

However, minors do not have the same rights as adults. “The Government may, however, regulate the content of constitutionally protected speech in order to promote a compelling interest if it chooses the least restrictive means to further the articulated interest. We have recognized that there is a compelling interest in protecting the physical and psychological well-being of minors. This interest extends to shielding minors from the influence of literature that is not obscene by adult standards. Ginsberg v. New York, 390 U.S. 629, 639 -640 (1968); New York v. Ferber, 458 U.S. 747, 756 -757 (1982). (source).

That’s why the government can restrict what you’re allowed to look at until you turn 18. You just don’t have as many rights as adults. Your parents, and the government can decide what’s best for you.

Of course, the age of consent varies and is 16 in most states. Which begs the question if an individual can consent to sex then why aren’t minors allowed to view pornography?

Simply viewing a video of other people having sex carries none of these that having sex does, so if you can have sex, why can’t you watch porn?

First, age of consent is different than age of majority. Until you’re 18 you aren’t legally an adult and you have less rights than an adult. The U.S. is one of the few countries that hasn’t ratified the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child. Instead, the U.S. believes parents have a fundamental right to control how their children are raised and the Government can also have a say (such as mandating public Education until a certain age).The Government has an interest in controlling what minors are allowed to do, and in theory makes laws to protect minors.

Second, it’s important to understand that in the U.S. Age of Consent is, unfortunately, is not always about protecting minors or serving their best interests. It’s about controlling them or protecting them making poor choices, rather than empowering them to make good choices and protecting them from exploitation.

In the U.S. minors are often treated as their parents property. This contributes to the sexual exploitation of minors (which I condemn in this post, and needs to be wildly unequivocally condemned) because our society doesn’t always think of protecting minors as vulnerable people rather than malleable objects and culturally too many people seem to not understand why minors are vulnerable to exploitation and why exploiting them is wrong. The unfortunate prevalence of child marriage in some parts of the US (also discussed in the post I linked) is a symptom of this.

In the U.S. there are some States where a minor can’t get an abortion without parental consent or court order (and that’s dangerous as there are parents who might punish a teenager for getting pregnant or force them into marriage). Even in more liberal states, like California the age of consent is 18 and it is criminal for teens to have sex. Sex between two teens (like two 16 year olds) or teens and young adults with three year apart in age (a 17 year old and a 20 year year old) is a misdemeanor. If a 15 year old is dating a 17 year old and the 17 year old turns 18, then that would be a felony. Teenagers can be punished for having sex other teenagers, with classmates and peers, even teens their own age (though less severely). The rationale behind the law isn’t protecting teenagers, it’s discouraging teenage pregnancy by punishing boys who have sex with girls.

Often, age of consent laws and statutory rape laws in the U.S. are about preventing a girl from doing something that would bring shame on her family. So at once you have teens punished for having consensual sex with other teens and parents pushing a pregnant 11 year old girls to marry her adult rapist so she won’t have a baby out of wedlock (both these things happened in Florida, age of consent has an exception for marriage with parental consent - it’s sickening).

In theory age of consent laws are supposed to be about when, in the State’s view, a person is old enough to want and desire sex and be capable of knowingly consent to it. In practice, age of consent laws are the age where the state figures teens are going to have sex and the state should let them (or at least not punish them).

Side Note: Personally, I’d support a system more like Germany’s where teenagers are allowed to consent to sex instead of being characterized as children (because teens are having sex whether they should be or not, abstinence preaching isn’t effective and teens should have a right to their own bodies and relationships), but exploitation and abuse of teenagers is illegal. Teens are vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Focus laws on protecting them from predators, not controlling their behavior. Put the power in their own hands, and extend protection until age 21 to prevent older predators from targeting barely legal teens (whether they’re legal at 16 or 18, protect them).

Ok, so why not let teens have porn? Teens wouldn’t get pregnant by watching porn. And in some states teens can have sex at 16, but not have porn until they’re 18. Porn is safer than sex.

American culture is puritanical and not in favor of sex out of wedlock. Even in states where lawmakers acknowledge that teens have sex at 16 (on average, most people have sex by 17) and decided not to criminalize their relationships, it’s not that they want teens to have sex, it’s just they don’t want to use police power to stop them.

There’s a fear porn will encourage sex. While media doesn’t change behavior (violent video games don’t make you violent, porn doesn’t change how you view women), the fear is if we don’t treat sex like a forbidden sin only for married people the culture might change to accept sex outside of wedlock. (I mean, look at California, giving teens free contraceptives would prevent teen pregnancy as effectively, if not more so, than arresting teens for sleeping together, but the law goes with deterring sex. Studies show abstinence only education doesn’t work, but in many states it’s pushed).

“Sex is dirty and wrong.” It’s part of sex negative puritan culture. Sure, at the same time traditional values links masculinity with men being able get women and encourages women to be ‘sexy’ and do things boys will like, the fact remains sex outside of marriage is taboo. Women are supposed to be pure. A man who is a player has managed to steal a precious guarded resource. A woman who is a slut has lost her worth because she didn’t guard herself. These are the sexist heterosexist norms, and they don’t really frame sex as a consensual thing that people choose to do.

Since our culture isn’t in favor of sex or porn, the government sees it as harmful, just like alcohol and cigarettes. As an adult, you’re free to make your own choices, even bad choices like smoking. That’s freedom. As a minor, you aren’t free yet.

The fact is, especially with the internet, plenty of minors start watching porn as young as 12 because that’s when they hit puberty and want to look at it. Just like plenty of teens experiment with underage drinking. Although a 12 year old boy looking at boobies isn’t as harmful as drinking and a 16 year old watching porn instead of having sex would certainly be safer, it’s still something the government can restrict.

And really, it is safer to wait until you’re over 18 because venturing into 18+ spaces. Because again, minors are at risk vulnerable and at risk for sexual exploitation. Especially for girls and women, venturing into adult spaces means risk of sexual harassment and potentially falling victims to predators who would seek to prey on the inexperienced.

This can still happen once you’re over 18, as I found out when I started exploring things at 18 (the only place I found safe was y!gal - a yaoi website - because anywhere that had content straight guys could enjoy was full of really creepy straight guys). But at 18, you also have more support. You have access to sex education and can freely talk about things with other adults. Adults can’t really talk to minors about sex or sexuality because there’s too much risk that predators would use that as an opportunity to target and manipulate minors. At 18, especially if you’re in college, you can learn about sex and question porn and sexual morality.

If society and the law let minors access porn and go to sex shops or workshops in places where minors can legally have sex at 16, it would probably be seen encouraging minors to have sex, which moral authorities would see as corrupting the youth. The general culture says you shouldn’t be having sex, so even in states that don’t criminally discourage it, they don’t encourage it.

Furthermore, media is made by adults. Porn is made by adults for other adults (at least officially, I’m pretty sure plenty of bad porn fics is written by 13 year olds). So if you’re watching porn, you’re not watching media that’s meant for your understanding or maturity level.

You don’t really have the opportunity to learn about sex outside of watching porn (other than by doing it, but that doesn’t teach you what sex is supposed to be) or to talk about it. Porn isn’t realistic, and the thought is minors are less equipped than adults to be able to tell if something is a good idea or not. And how can you know what’s realistic or healthy if no one can talk to you about sex because all you get is ‘sex is bad, don’t do it until you’re married and then it will be good, somehow’.

In the U.S. the drinking age is 21. That’s one of the highest drinking ages in the world. Underage drinking happens, especially at Universities where you have a mixed peer group of under drinking age and of drinking age students. While the risks of alcohol don’t change between 20 and 21, it’s safer to drink legally because you’re allowed to drink in restaurants and with your parents and with other people who have experience drinking and can help you learn how to drink safely, as opposed to chugging beer illegally at 18 because you don’t know what you’re doing and can’t do it openly.

The fact people under 18 can’t view porn or go into sex shop shops or go into NSFW spaces online or IRL makes doing it illegally more dangerous.

At the same time, I don’t know if I’d support lowering the age you can view porn. Your body is your own and plenty of teens want sex and choose to have sex. I don’t think we should punish a 16 or even a 14 or 15 year old who wants to have sex (it happens) instead we should protect them from abuse and exploitation and help them make safe choices. The right to control over your own body, what you do with it, who you love and want to be with seems fundamental. The right to watch a video...not so much. Especially when allowing 16 year olds into NSFW spaces might put them at greater risk of mingling with much older people who might be predatory.

Then again, in Europe, plenty of countries let people under 18 have porn, but they also have better sex education. Before America changes law and policy about whether or not minors can view porn, we need to make more basic changes like having decent sex education and banning child marriage for the love of God.

@tadpoledancer - And I know that at 16, being 18 seems like forever and waiting to go one websites or read fics might seem unfair. However, it’s really not that long to wait. Once you’re 18, you can do whatever you want, and hopefully you’ll go to college or university and find so much to discover about yourself. Stay safe. Maybe stick to pg 13 or R rated things or what you can find on Netflix or the library? (the dirtiest thing I watched in High School was probably HBO’s Queer as Folk censored for reruns on Logo, but it was still fun).
