hi! i'm kind of new to watching 911 and shipping buddie, and i've just finished 5x01, currently on 5x02. seeing eddie have a panic attack when someone mentions ana being chris's mom and again looking scared when ravi mistakes her for his wife, all while buck is the only person to notice that something is off and ask about it was so confusing. like, so far pretty much everything i've seen wrt buddie is very sus but this in particular feels like such an intentional choice, and i just keep asking myself, why would they be doing this if not buddie canon?
i know that KR has previously said that she interprets buddie's relationship as simply platonic, but everything in the actual text of the show seems to point to a canonically romantic direction, especially the s6 spoilers i've read abt the couch metaphor. what do you think? should i let myself hope for it?
-- NewTo911Anon
hi! welcome to the fandom, and i hope you're enjoying the show!
first off, i'd just like to advise you to not pay much heed to the interviews, and you definitely should not let them affect your enjoyment of the show. watch the show, interpret it, draw your own conclusions, but don't let the whole word of god thing affect your opinions too much! there can certainly be some valuable insights from the interviews, done by showrunners and actors, don't get me wrong. but let's be clear on one thing, when it comes to upcoming plotlines, showrunners often lie their asses off. and for good reason—they can't go around spoiling what they have planned. the biggest example of this i can think of is tim minear saying after 4x14 that there were no intentions of dealing with how the shooting affected eddie's PTSD, only for eddie's struggle with mental health to be one of the defining storylines of s5. if there are plans of buddie going canon, you can absolutely expect the showrunners to keep their cards close to their chest and straight up lie about it, because this will be a major deal. a long-running friendship between two men who have been presumed to be straight would be groundbreaking, and there is no way they would spoil the surprise factor of it. so as much as they call them platonic, or even brotherly, nothing is canon except the actual text of the show. you need to take everything they say with a grain of salt.
you're absolutely right about it being sus that buck was the only one to openly notice that something was wrong with eddie! it is a very obvious nod to the fact that while even ana, who was committed to being in a relationship with eddie, could not bring herself to push him to open up; buck completely broke down his walls and got him to tell him what was going on. there are so many instances like this, where buck and eddie are singled out and written in a manner that is more similar to the way the other endgame couples on the show are written, rather than the friendships. it's definitely not all in your head.
i won't say too much about the couch metaphor, because i think you should watch s6 yourself and draw your own opinions, but i will say this—somehow, more than anything else, this is what's made me the most sure i've ever i've ever been, that buddie is going canon. it feels like the show has completely let go of the subtext; it's not even up to interpretation at this point. even the GA is starting to notice from the latest episode, even official reviewers for the show are pointing it out.
i think there's definitely a good chance of buddie happening, but like i said, you need to draw your own conclusions. and try not to let the uncertainty affect the way you engage with the show—911 is about more than just this, there are so many good and complex characters and relationships. so, keep an open mind! i hope you enjoy the rest of s5 & s6!

OK I hope this makes sense because I feel like some of my thoughts have been a little crystallized and I'm hoping for your opinion since your actually queer and very insightful.
So I know some fans pine for the days of the early promotion of Buddie when Stark and Guzman did goofy things together and even attended award shows. I get it and I missed it a little too. But I always felt like when the show settled on this was a true love scenario they scaled back on it for reasons of not making it silly or meme worthy.
Then all the interviews for My Policeman came out and Dawson and Styles addressing their approach to love scenes and their friendship and how they handle it now. They speak of it rather beautifully and they want you to see it that way. But also address their roles as actors friends, the promise to always smile and hug forever.
And that brought me back to Brokeback Mountain and Jake and Heath were protective of their roles. Even Jake later coming out and saying that Heath refused to be and Oscar skit because he didn't want it to be a "gay joke". He just wanted people to see the love.
So again it brought back to why in my head the change in the promotion changed and this really was what I was thinking. If they make Buddie Canon I don't think they ever want it to be funny or like a meme you know. I'm not implying either are deep in the closet characters but they are definitely different then say TK and Carlos. Especially TK who's main struggles aren't his sexuality, it's his internal trauma. Or that they are even the same as Henren.
Especially coupled with the fact that both Oliver and Ryan are very masculine men you know. They are friends. I feel like they want it to be respected.
Also off topic Didn't you also post some lovely gifs of was it Russian WW2 military queer movie? I never watched the show but I remember looking them up after you posted them. What was it called?
I probably sound a little caffeine induced but hopefully some of my point made sense.
Hi wonderful Nonnie!
Thank you so much for this lovely ask! And if it’s okay, I’ll start by addressing Firebird, the Russian queer film for which I posted the gifset you mentioned here. I am SO happy you liked the set (the original post has a link to the movie’s homepage, BTW), and you should def watch the film! It’s visually stunning, the love story is very moving IMO and the thing that got to me the most is that it’s a real story. It’s not WWII, but the 1970′s, the height of the communist regime. As someone whose family suffered under the communists after the end of the Nazis and Fascists’ era, I have to admit that speaks to me. My great uncle wrote a book about what it was like for my family, being Jews under the communists, when the individual was considered the property of the state, so it could do with him or her as it wishes, and when anyone could report you to the party with real or made up accusations that were always taken at face value. Add antisemitism, homophobia or any other type of bigotry to that type of society, and you can understand why a gay love story during that time is especially poignant. One of the two men whose romance is depicted was involved in the making of the film, because he wanted their story known. Here’s just the first gif from that set:
Tumblr media
As for promotion, I have no doubt that Ryan and Oliver would not want Buddie taken as a joke. Both of these men are, like the other actors you mentioned, very protective of their characters and clearly understand them in depth. They’ve also both spoken up in favor of Buddie, so should our ship go canon, undoubtedly they’d want it to be treated with respect. IDK if that’s the only reason why the promotion has been shaped as it has been. There’s also been drama that I think in general made Ryan for a long while there wanna do PR a lot less. But I have no doubt that if and when Buddie go canon, they will talk about it, and will do so with the utmost love for this pairing and their family unit. I think they all know what Buddie would mean to queer viewers, like when you look at that supportive vid JLH sent for a same sex couple who are Buddie fans. Hell, even Gavin, who plays Chris, has been asked about Buddifer becoming a family, and he said he would love that. We have never seen them treating the idea of Buddie with anything other than respect and positivity, and if that’s the case before our boys have even gone canon...
I hope I managed to answer the question! I’m so grateful for your kind words and for your interest in my perspective. Have a beautiful day, lovely! xoxox
(and as always, if anyone’s looking for it, here is my ask tag! xoxox)

Let’s talk about Hospital Playlist. (KDRAMA REVIEW)
Tumblr media
note: does contain spoilers
When people ask me what is my favorite Korean drama of all time, with no doubt, IT’S HOSPITAL PLAYLIST. This drama has the comic relief, the emotional scenes, realistic characters-just to name a few. No toxic relationships and petty revenge fights. Nothing else will stop me for saying that this is the ultimate feel good drama.
SYNOPSIS: The drama shows insights into the daily lives of doctors and nurses working at Yulje Medical Hospital. It focuses on 5 doctors who have been friends since medical school, who also play together as a band.
This drama encompasses so many elements and characters so bear with me yo this might be real long
Hospital Playlist is produced/written by the Shin-Lee PD and writer pairing, whose previous works were the renowned Reply trilogy and Prison Playbook (which are *chef’s kiss*) I really like that all their dramas really highlight humanism, and puts emphasis on creating a heartwarming and realistic series. There isn’t always a major conflict to be resolved, but instead it showcases how different people-in this case mostly those in the medical field-go on about their daily lives.  I also liked their reasoning to produce a medical drama which was that hospitals were where the most dramatic moments occurred, for example during births, deaths or sickness. And since we are still in the Covid-19 pandemic, it ties in greatly to be paying homage to all the medical personnel saving lives. Hence, props to those who were involved in this meaningful masterpiece <3
The drama is not the usual 16 episodes, but has 12 episodes for each season (SEASON 2 IS COMING SOON YAAS) Good thing is I felt that they were still able to weave a dynamic storyline in the first season even with lesser episodes. The writing was just top-notch with the witty humor bits. Additionally, the music is AMAZING. I love the concept of the main characters being a band and playing different songs every episode too.
Tumblr media
Okay, now onto the characters. I thought that every character in this drama was well rounded. Starting of with the main five characters, also known as The 99ers, whose distinctive personalities and natural chemistry make all of them extremely likeable. All main characters are professors of different specialties, and I find the male OB-GYN (Seokhyeong) and female neurosurgeon (Songhwa) very refreshing. Also, I like Shin-Lee dramas always have characters that might be realistic yet hardly seen in other dramas or films. For example, Professor Ahn Jeongwon. Despite being a chaebol (inheritor/heir), he isn’t depicted as a spoilt brat or a cold character, instead as a warm Pediatric doctor who uses his wealth to secretly support patients in need. However it makes him stingy to his friends LOL
To be honest, I really thought I was gonna dislike Junwan due to his cold and tsundere nature. I pretty much believed that he was going to be the party pooper type of the bunch, but with the writer being a master of character development, he turned out to be really sincere and hilarious at times. Same for Ikjun, who apart from his enthusiastic and happy go lucky exterior, cares the most about the people around him. Although Seokhyeong seemed detached and introverted, he shows a emotional side to his friends as well as his mother. Songhwa is literally a girlboss though haha she’s smart, capable and gets along with everyone well. And she’s the most sane out of the bunch.
Tumblr media
With all the main characters, we have the relationships. Junwan is the first to date seriously with Iksun (the dog or Micky? jkjk) who is Ikjun’s sister. When it first happened I was like not again Jung Kyung Ho (bc he dated his best friend’s sis in prison playbook too LMAO) I think their relationship was realistic and open. It also showed a more sensitive side to Junwan who would do anything for her. I especially liked how he said he didn’t need access to her phone because he trusted her. Yet as all couples do, they have their fair share of ups and downs. Like conflicts on getting married and a long distance relationship as Iksun moves overseas for graduate studies. I don’t really know how to take the ambiguous ending for these two, as Junwan receives the returned box (that has the ring he sent) I really hope nothing bad happens to these two though.
Tumblr media
I’m sure we all love Wintergarden couple though, tbh they’re kinda my OTP at the moment 🤣 It was pretty much a ‘will they won’t they’ relationship with a relatively slow build. I think Gyeoul turned out to be one of my favourite characters. Shin Hyun Been did a good job at portraying her as a straightforward but innocent Resident, who is pretty much openly crushing on Jeongwon. The scenes they had together were adorably awkward (and the scene where he gives her chocopies omg) And when Jeongwon battles his inner conflict to become a priest, the final decision where they kiss was beautifully shot, with the actors both showcasing their emotions extremely well.
Tumblr media
Then we have Chihong who pursues Songhwa, his professor. Midway through the drama, it is also shown that Ikjun and Songhwa might have had romantic feelings for each other. Songhwa ends up rejecting Chihong’s confession. In my opinion, Chihong was quite a interesting character but I didn’t really like him at the end. (I like the actor though) He did a real jerk move during drinking games, insisting on Ikjun to confess his feelings towards her even though he is already trying not to put Songhwa in an awkward spot. Although his character did end up making a cool exit and when I thought about his incredible story of soldier to doctor, I kinda regret disliking him that much. As for IkSong, In the final episode Ikjun confesses to her one last time, and we are left waiting for Songhwa’s reply. As much as I love this pairing, I don’t think that the ship will sail or maybe not as quickly as we think. I believe Songhwa would meticulously consider the sacrifices to their friendship or other aspects and might not be able to bring herself to it, but I hope it’s otherwise.
Tumblr media
Lastly not forgetting Seokhyeong and Minha, another Professor+resident pairing. This one’s a bit ambiguous though, mainly because there hasn’t been much romantic development. To me, the most impactful scene came from Minha who had been irritated by continuous night shifts and was on the verge of a breakdown. She ended up remarkably saving a patient, starting off surgery on her own for the first time. Oh man Minha was such a lovable character, I remember feeling so bad for her but extremely proud of her for her accomplishment. Although Seokhyeong seemed a bit aloof and distant (which was intentional bc he’s an introvert) I think the backstory and all the hardships he faced with his family really made me feel for him. I hate to break it to you, but I’m not so sure if the ship will sail because of the phone call from his ex-wife and Minha’s somewhat rejected confession. But who knows, they might pull off a twist 👀
Tumblr media
Apart from all these characters, there are more characters HHAHAH However, I think this is the killing point of ShinLee dramas. Unlike typical dramas which usually focuses on a main character and 2-3 side characters, they like to cast a diverse range of actors (especially those from theatre/musicals and lesser known drama/movie actors) while actually give their characters personality or a reason to be there. I’ve seen many dramas where extras or side characters were kind of irrelevant thus making me feel that they weren’t needed to build the storyline, yet ShinLee dramas hit different y’all. Every role, no matter how small, holds significance to the drama. It really seemed like a collaborative work that shows off every actors skills (and not forgetting staffs) and teamwork.
Anyways because there are way too many characters and too many scenes for me to mention them all, I’ll just talk about some honourable mentions heheh
1. Sunbin and Seokmin confession scene (ahh so cute)
I kinda sensed that they liked each other at the start but I didn’t know Seokmin would ask her out on a date at the end. Even though it’s kinda awkward that they are dating and working with each other though (both are in the same department) but hey the confession was cute and awkward and just warm and fuzzy 🥰
2. MAMA ROSA IS THE QUEENN
I think we all (would) love Mama Rosa because she’s a real one ☝️ (probably the coolest mother ever) She’s feisty, hilarious and kind to others. Plus her friendship with Ju Jong Su was just adorable and super wholesome. The scenes where they were supporting one another through tough times and hanging out with each other when they felt lonely always put a smile on my face. Oh and how Mama Rosa treated Gyeoul was extremely sweet. (as well as Seokhyeong’s mother) Despite her tough exterior, she’s a likeable character for being a strong but caring woman.
3. Just Do Jae Hak
I seriously love this guy so muchhh omg he’s so funny
Do Jae Hak has a funny amd clumsy personality, though it’s clear he’s been through a lot and is strong willed person. From admitting his indecisiveness to counselling Jun Wan on his love issues, there’s literally nothing to hate about him.
4. Uju and his dadd
The father and son chemistry between these two is so good omg. The scenes with these two are so adorable and heartwarming (not to mention hilarious) It’s amazing to see how Ikjun cares so much for Uju despite his hectic workdays while going through infidelity issues with his ex-wife. Uju is matured for his age and shows his love and appreciation for his dad too, making their interaction a great portrayal of a healthy family relationship💞
5. the food stealing the show🥘
Who doesn’t love food and when a show has great food scenes? Some of the best scenes are definitely when the 99s gather to eat. It really showcases each character’s personality with the tiniest details as well as highlight warm delicious meals. Just don’t watch this when you’re hungry at 2am in the morning guys you’ll be drooling all over your screens HAHAHA
Tumblr media
Of course there are way more aspects, like Hongdo and Yoonbok, Ikjun and Iksun’s pigeon jokes and raps, or Jeongwon drunk crying in the chicken shop with his brother (who was his coach in Reply 1994 when he played Chilbong LOL)
Most importantly, I think it is the themes and messages that you get from the drama that really create such a lasting impression. Not only does it hit you in the feels with the hardships of hospital patients, or the hardworking doctors+nurses who are working long shifts saving lives, it also tackles topics of friendships through the possibilities of platonic and friends-to-lovers relationships. However I think the biggest lesson for me came from Seokhyeong, who learns to live his life doing what he want, with the people he treasures. Although the drama might seem slow at times (mainly because there isn’t really a main plot line/conflict occurring), but this drama would still bring you on a journey where you would laugh, cry and finish the series, begging for season 2 ✌🏻

Look, this whole nonsense from the Variety interview with Anthony Mackie didn't have to be a thing. Here's why:
Adam B. Vary, the interviewer, primed that "Sambucky Question" (in quotes because he doesn't specify that to be what he's asking about) by asking Anthony Mackie if he keeps up with fandom/fan opinion, specifically about Sam's friendship with Bucky, to which Mackie said no. Drop it there. Mackie gave a legitimate reason as to why he does not participate in fandom discussion/observation. Adam should have moved on. Adam asks:
Adam: "Did you pay much attention to how fans reacted to Sam and Bucky's sort of evolving friendship?"
Anthony: "I didn't. I try to stay away from fan stuff. Uhm, you know, the fandom is a very dangerous place, so I just, I let it be what it is and move on."
Diplomatic, succinct, and arguably justified, given how reactionary certain parts of the fan base can be.
Adam then proceeds to not actually ask for Anthony's opinion on a romantic interpretation of Sam and Bucky's relationship. He pulls the Male Friendship card after bringing up fandom desire to see Bucky as part of the LGBTQIA+ Community (in a less than nuanced observation) and fandom desire to see Sam and Bucky be romantically involved.
Adam: "...I was asking because my job is to pay attention to fandoms so I notice that, you know -- and this is a thing that's been happening with Bucky just in general as a character -- there are fans who are just, sort of outright wanting Sam and Bucky to become a couple. That they just, they love them together.
"I guess I'm interested in the-- it's so rare to see male friendship and male, sort of, platonic love in a superhero context. And Bucky's now had it twice. He had it with Steve and now he's getting it with Sam."
And then Adam asks about the platonic relationship and what that's like for Mackie to play into as an actor.
Adam: "For you as an actor, like being able to explore that element of a relationship with another male character, I'm just curious how that evolves for you and what that's like for you to play."
It's a non sequitur.
Adam didn't need to touch on fandom and shipping to ask for Mackie's personal insight on portraying platonic male relationships. If he was truly curious about that aspect, he should have made that the focus of the question, not an afterthought tacked onto pitting the ideas of male-centric romantic and platonic love against each other (which is an inherently inflammatory way to go about having that discussion).
Not to mention, in the written article, he pins that shoddy question delivery on Mackie with:
'But he resists an interpretation that Sam and Bucky are sexually or romantically attracted to each other.'
Does he now? Because I would argue, he doesn't resist so much as he clarifies how he sees the interaction between Sam and Bucky, how he played it, what it was like for him. Something he was well within his rights to do based on the question Adam posed. Extra-textual analysis and interpretation was not his focus, nor did it have to be given the actual topic of Adam's question, that being Mackie's involvement in conveying a platonic male relationship. The context for Mackie's statement is poorly represented by Adam within the article. It's a clunky answer brought about by a clunky question.
Whether Mackie would have answered the same way had Adam not introduced the romance angle, I don't know, I can't say. In listening to the podcast and reading the article, I'd rather focus on Adam perpetuating a narrative that isn't there. Therefore, I can say: that was a leading question from Adam. He put the topic of fans wanting a romance out there when it wasn't necessary background for the question he ultimately asked.
Is it rare to see male platonic relationships? Specific to a superhero context, one could say that. I'd go with uncommon over rare, but I'll concede the point on the basis of syntax and my tendency to be pedantic. There does tend to be a lot of posturing and machismo as a staple of the genre. But as Adam points out, platonic love has happened with Bucky, twice (at least canonically within the MCU and not taking into account fan interpretation). So clearly, this is something Marvel is already taking steps to represent.
Then what was the point of that exchange?
I should be able to say it was to get Mackie's take on delving into platonic love and intimacy between men, which is a conversation that is worth having, and one that he attempts to have. But Adam frames it as Mackie pushing back against shipping and seeing Sam and Bucky's relationship as sexual, which is not what that was. So it's a wash, and it's poorly executed interviewing/journalism.
Tl;dr: Adam B. Vary asked a poorly constructed question that left Anthony Mackie in the lurch for answering it.
Sidenote: I didn't get into dissecting what Mackie said beyond the surface level and its relation to Adam's question because that discussion --how fans interpret and/or read into relationships-- is something that deserves more than a few sentences of explanation and speculation; I also have inherent biases as a black lesbian who participates in and is simultaneously frustrated by shipping culture. Some of Mackie's word choice is baffling to me like "exploitation" by who specifically and to what degree? I feel like that might be the biggest point that begs clarification. But that's about all I'll say on the matter since that's not the point of this post.
Also: Anthony Mackie is not homophobic and there's no need to harass anyone over this. At all.

I'm scared they are gonna develop RivenxTerra relationship rather than Rivusa. I think the only Rivusa scene we get was a little easter egg. In the show Terra and Riven had a shared histor and friends whereas Rivusa had nothing. I would literally cry if Rivusa won't happen. What's your thoughts TerraxRiven tho?
In all honesty I don't think TerraxRiven as a romantic relationship will happen.
Terra and Riven are said to have been friends the year prior, then he turned into the asshole and they went separate ways. In the first episode he calls her names to show off in front of Dane and to get a reaction of them both and she fights back, choking him with the vine. After she stops he tells her to fuck off and she answeres with "Missed you too". Then later in the series, in ep 05, he goes and sits next to her, all sulky and tired and for me it shows that he's lonely and he misses their friendship. He realises he doesn't have anyone else and he wants a friend to vent to and support him. For me it's an attempt he has at apologising to her and showing her he misses having her as a friend, while Terra feel kind of awkward because she doesn't know if she can trust him again or not after not only him but Dane turned their backs on her as friends.
I love her interactions with Riven, I feel like she's a good influence on him and he brings out her fierce side which is very badass. But I don't think nor want their relationship to develop anymore than friendship.
The Rivusa scene is the next time we see Riven after this second interaction with Terra, and the contrast in his behaviour is so big that is kinda shocking.
Before he feels like he's lost everything, like he's been played and betrayed. He's failed being a friend to both Terra and Sky, and failed being a Specialist, once being an exellent fighter and now being defeated in all fights. He feels like he's hit rock bottom, he's defeated.
But then he immediately smiles when Musa walks by him, showing off to her and acting like he owns the place, turning back to his smartass self, checking her out and, for some reason, opening up to her when he talks about the school and it's system. When she tells him exactly what he feels he's surprised because when else in the series has anyone talked to him about his emotions and understood exactly what he's feeling? He's shocked and surprised and immediately goes in defensive more telling her to fuck off and storming off (not before smirking for a split second).
The Rivusa scene serves no purpose in the plot but to be the characters' first introdution to eachother, their first insight into one another, and it feels so out of place that even if the creators put in rivusa as an easter egg, there were plenty of other scene they could have done before that crucial moment in Riven's arch. It just doesn't make sense that they purposefully used those precious 40 seconds of the second to last episode in a 6 episode series to waste in a whatever scene if they weren't going to explore those characters relationships deeper.
Speaking from a point of view of someone who has worked on movies and tv shows, it's highly unlikely they put that scene in if it didn't have meaning. That scene had to go through the producers, the writers, the director, the actors, the crew filming, the editor and the director and producers and channel (in this case Netflix) before it made into the final version of the episode. If it was a whatever scene, it would have been scrapped without a doubt.
With that being said, yes they could have added it with future intentions of Rivusa and developing season two they decided to not make Rivusa happen, it's a possibility yes. But Rivusa got very very popular among the fans, more than any couple or ship (except for Silrah). So in my humble opinion rivusa is bound to happen.
Why do I tend to write essays for every ask I get? I don't know. All this to say I don't ship TerraxRiven lol
Thanks for the ask, anon!

hi mt! what are your favorite couples/pairs on tv besides caryl? canon and fanon ones. Were you passionate fan of some "big series" like Lost, X-files, Sherlock, GOT, BBT or HIMYM? Which of these shows if you watched them had it done dirty in the end in your opinion and which were your personal favorites or broke your heart as your vision of finales was unpopular? (not only these i listed but other shows you loved)
sorry if question is too personal in any aspect:) you're just interesting and insightful viewer
Hi, friend. I promise you, I'm the least interesting person in the world, but I appreciate you saying so. To answer your question, a refreshing one by the way, I guess let me start by mentioning I am not someone who ships very often when I watch TV and on the rare instances I do, it usually isn't immediate and definitely isn't superficial. It takes some seriously strong character development and insane levels of chemistry to get my attention.
Of the shows you listed, I'm aware a lot of Carylers are also heavily into Mulder/Scully and whatever that one is from GOT (Braime?). I haven't actually watched either series, so I can't comment. I've also completely stopped watching network shows aside from my token feel-good show This Is Us, but back in their heyday about a decade ago (wow, this is making me sound way older than I am), I did like me some crime procedurals, namely Criminal Minds. That is where I became deeply invested in the relationship between Morgan and Garcia, not too far off from the reasons I ship Caryl. I loved that friendship was always at the heart of their interactions, I loved that their relationships with other characters couldn't compare, and I loved that they subverted expectations about who qualified as a love interest considering Morgan was a stereotypically hot bachelor while Garcia was a quirky woman of size. Unfortunately the actor who played Morgan ended up quitting the show, thereby ending my dreams for them, but after the series finale wrapped, the actress who played Garcia admitted in an interview that she believed her character had fallen in love with Morgan at some point, so getting that validation was nice. I'm sure there are a few other ships on other shows I could talk about, but honestly, none of them level up to Caryl. They are by far my favorite duo out of everything I've ever watched, ever.
P.S. Not too personal at all. Always down to talk about other shows and other things.

Do you actually see a potential Hournite relationship on Stargirl? I want to, but every now and then the show hints at Rick x Yolanda to me. Then again, you have the cast rooting for an Hournite endgame, so maybe there is hope for them down the line. Maybe in a couple of seasons if this is supposed to be a slow burn. IMO Anjelika plays Beth like a believable high school student, very young and naive, despite being in her 20s irl. Rick's actor makes him seem like he should be old enough in college, so I don't know. I want the relationship, but at the same time, I can't see it happening.
Yes, I do want to see canon Hournite, and I think the show is doing a great job at creating a really believable slow-burn when it comes to Rick/Beth. I don't want TPTB to rush into anything, because there's a lot of groundwork and relationship building that needs to go into effect, before we get canon Hournite, but as of now, I think that the show is doing right by Rick and Beth, in terms of showcasing their bond and how that bond could be romantic.
See, I just feel like it's because Cameron looks older than Anjelika, Yvette, and Brec, when he's actually younger than Anj and Yvette and slightly older than Brec. I think Courtney, Beth, and Yolanda all feel like believable high school students, and I think Cameron is able to play Rick as a believable high schooler, but he just doesn't look like a high-schooler. To me, though, that's not a big deal, because it's I don't feel like Rick acts older than Beth in any way. They have different personalities, but I think they are able to lend support, insight, and comfort to one another that really illustrates a dynamic that is on equal footing. So, yes, I absolutely can see Hournite happening, just not right away. If the slow-burn continues to be developed well, I can definitely see a season 3 finale kiss, for example.
I feel like Rick and Yolanda have a really nice friendship, and given Yolanda's story-line, we get to see all the characters lend support and friendship to her. I've never really felt that there were teases of something more, but I will say that I've always viewed the narrative as developing Hournite as the romantic ship.

I don't know if anyone cares or wants to read this, but I'm gonna tell y'all when and why did i start believing in Charmie. So buckle up, who ever is reading this.
I've been a part of a lot of fandoms and they were usually about movies/TV shows/actors/actresses. I've always been a shipper of characters and not actors, I'd search their pictures by their character's names, read and write fanfics about the characters, i did everything that involved just their characters. Example : i used to ship Stiles and Derek from Teen Wolf, just them, not Dylan O'Brien or Tyler Hoechlin, same thing with the Maze runner, i shipped Newt and Thomas, and now Thomas Brodie Sanger and Dylan O' Brien (oh Dylan...lol) etc.
And then i saw Call me by your name, and i was shipping (still do) Elio and Oliver, but there was something more to it, i couldn't wrap my finger around it, something was missing, like it wasn't enough that it was just them. So i went online and watched all the interviews with Timothée and Armie.
Honestly, something you need to know about me, i was never involved in a private life of a celebrity or knew all this PR, Hollywood, fake relationships shit until i came here on Tumblr. So when i watched the interviews i was like "Aww they're such good friends, they're really close if they talk like that and touch each other like that, if they compliment each other like that etc", because i was like "You can't ship two actors, are you insane?? Armie's happily married with two kids, his wife looks good (on photoshopped pics, i never zoomed in her eyes and jaw), and Timmy's definitely straight and all that bs."
So time goes by, and I'm still shipping just Elio and Oliver, and Armie and Timothée like bros and good friends (that rolled around naked on bed, and made out for 10+ minutes).
And then TIFF happened and that was a breaking point for me. Even before TIFF when Timmy showed up after being a ghost for 6 months, and he showed up for Armie Hammer. That kind of spiked in my book, that was the first time i gave myself a permission to believe there's more to it than just friends. And then the TIFF hug and everything that happened at TIFF.
So i joined Tumblr and realized i wasn't the only one with that opinion, it was good but still wasn't enough for me. Now, I've seen Charmie being spread around and never really took it seriously, like i saw them as nothing but friends. But that hug, that hug was...everything to me. I'd think of Armie being married and then the hug, I'd think Timmy's probably straight, and then the hug. The TIFF hug undid all the doubts i had of them being just friends.
Then SSIFF happened and the rumor about Tim going to dinner with LRD and then his eyes, those sad eyes, he wasn't sick, we've seen him being sick, it wasn't the same. No, those eyes were pure sadness and anxiety, and i remember seeing him like that and all I wanted to do is fly over to Spain to hug him for whatever reason.
Fast forward to the first Central Park picture of Tim and Lily.
That's when i got very suspicious. Okay, they were at TIFF and SSIFF, there was no interaction, that rumor of them going to the same dinner was just a rumor until the black and white picture came out months later (where Timmy looked like he was holding some sort of guard), how come this relationship just sparked out of nowhere? (Lily was on the set for 2 weeks, no time to fall in love) Then Mud happened, then those pictures from the rain, then those from Central Park, and all the gossips and rumors and made up stories...everything was so suspicious to me. So i log onto Tumblr again and saw all the theories and i tried to develop my very own.
If Charmie was just a fantasy, and it was made up by couple of people on the internet, then it shouldn't bother anybody, because it was just a fantasy, and this relationship began so close to the TIFF hug that got me thinking "What if it's not just a fantasy but something real, and they're covering something up?". Because, let's face it, not in a millions of years would I ever put Timmy and Lily together in a relationship. He was Tim, and she was very problematic (from family to drugs, lbr). It got me to question either Timmy and his choice of women, or his PR team (I learned that here). But Timmy went on being his perky self and this relationship just stunk to the core.
And from that point on, everything was smooth sailing.
Maybe I've gotten far into something I shouldn't have, but the point is, the reason why i started to believe in Charmie is because of the fake relationship. It was too close to them being publicly affectionate and too far from thinking Tim would really fall for a woman like that. I'm sure Lily's okay in a closed room alone, but in public, i don't like her very much and it has nothing to do with Tim, or me being a jealous person that wants Tim all for myself (he's not my type), i wouldn't follow someone like her and her insights in the world. Simple as that.
After that, i turned the film around and realized that they've probably been "together" since CMBYN promo or so. The fact that "friendship" like Tim's and Armie's had to be covered by a fake girlfriend and a wife that was rather a control freak, then i got my thoughts straight.
Now i know what we say about Tim and Lily, and Armie and Liz, they could all be legit and really in love and happy, but...i just don't see it. And i know what we say about Tim and Armie could be false, or it could be true, we're just speculating, but my God, when all the pieces are put together, when all the videos of them gawking at each other, their body language, their eyes and compliments, just them being them...it's hard to see them as just friends and co-stars. They went through something when they were filming CMBYN, and I seriously doubt they stopped at that. I think this movie awoke something in both of them and they deepened the bond and it got them where they are now.
So, thank you PR teams for making me believe in Charmie, you did a shitty job and each time you screw up a bit, I believe in them even more, because the more you try to cover something up, the more real it gets for me. And it's not just them, it's the entire picture, this is very simple and people with logical thinking can see it also.
Conclusion : I am a Charmie, i love and support both Armie and Timmy separately and together, i don't like Lily and i think Liz is very...something. No hate, this is just my opinion on all this.
Have a great day, sorry for the long post, here's some Charmie love.❤️

(1) Thank you for the gif(t)s of Misters Elba & Morley. I could always use a little more of them in my life ;) Sorry for the last rant but I’m perplexed by those regarding Bellarke as a six season platonic friendship possibly to turn romantic in the last stretch or not at all. And “turn” is generous since some prefer to use “forced” instead. I suppose it can technically be true but only in the strictest, most surface-level sense. It’s been a long time since I’ve thought of Bellarke as NOT part
(2) of a romantic narrative. I look back and see Bellarke as a three-sided dynamic- partnership, friendship, and romance, with each side of the triangle pushing and influencing the others and each season deepening the dynamic. Even season 1 had elements of all three. I’d say progression is the most accurate term to describe their story. Strangers of different hierarchical classes to political rivals to co-leaders to friends to lovers separated by trauma, politics, death, time, other partners to
(3) future couple. Not a single step exists in a vacuum. Their relationship and individual character development are pieces fit to form a complete puzzle over time. Or as I’ve come to see, a seamless 100-episode tale with interconnected threads from start to finish. The only right way to decipher meaning is to look beyond a collection of scenes to the full picture of what we have so far. All stories are chronicles of progression from one point to the next and romance plots are no exception. JR
(4) didn’t invent some newfangled revolutionary storytelling protocol. His story just requires us to look beneath the surface and connect the dots across a seven season sequence. By 6x10, there are no layers needed to be looked under. The romance is smack dab in the middle of the room for all to witness, figuratively and literally. Even the nonshippers can see it, it’s not exclusive to the trained eye of the romance lover. I thought I signed up for a great story years ago. But I never would’ve
(5) known HOW great it was without the thought-provoking, deep-dive analyses by you, jeanie205 and the 3rd in the triumvirate of fandom heroes, travllingbunny, the kind of insights that bring an accompanying joy to the show itself and leave one stupefied in awe. Thank you all, truly. I don’t have sure plans to watch the prequel yet but if the 3 of you will, it may just tip the scales for me into the affirmative. It’d be fun to geek out with you guys on a new-ish adventure from the start.
+++
I got chills when you said,
Not a single step exists in a vacuum. Their relationship and individual character development are pieces fit to form a complete puzzle over time. Or as I’ve come to see, a seamless 100-episode tale with interconnected threads from start to finish.
That was the most unexpected thing about this show. That it wasn’t just another fun show with hot people in the apocalypse with shocking twists dealing with complex questions-- which would be good enough, you know? Lots of fun. No, it was more. I did NOT figure out that it was a novelistic show until we got to season 3 and even then I didn’t understand how LONG TERM a novel was being told here. Not a novel, more like a series. A novel would be season long, but the narratives here have lasted for 7 seasons.
It is seamless. Subplots weaving in and out of the 7 seasons. Character arcs taking the whole series to complete. That actually really confused me in season 3, because I expected both Clarke and Bellamy to finish their hero’s journeys in that season, and instead, there I was, feeling like it was unfinished because they HADN’T returned from their journeys wiser and stronger, ready to change their worlds. Nope. They were still struggling and learning.
Just because I SAW the hero’s journeys in season 3 (a little late, mind you, since they started in s1 in the ‘hot people in the apocalypse’ phase,) doesn’t mean THAT was the entirety of the hero’s journey. It actually stands to reason that if they’re on a hero’s journey, that it’s a whole series long journey. Oooh. But then this hiatus, someone was like... are you sure Clarke isn’t on a HEROINE’S journey? And I, not really being an expert on the heroine’s journey and only seeing the hero’s part of it (which is like the first half of the heroine’s journey?) had to go research it and LO AND BEHOLD, her journey was the HEROINE’S journey, which TOTALLY fits with the dual protagonist, yin/yang, dark/light, head/heart, binary stars, feminist, mythic, epic love story of it all. NOW it all makes sense, why I couldn’t understand that her hero’s journey hadn’t finished yet (because it shifted into the more unexpected heroine’s journey.)
It always frustrates me when people say I can’t admit I’m wrong and am delusional about bellarke, because I have continually adjusted my theories as the story has gone on, changing them when something is off and doesn’t match canon and THAT’S why my theories are still holding up, which they are. Because I keep checking them back against canon. And when canon confirms the theories I have, I keep using them. When canon josses my theories and headcanons, I adjust. I ask myself, okay where did I go wrong? what is he really saying here? I’ve been struggling, particularly with Raven and Murphy’s roles in the show, and talked to various people about them, because I couldn’t grab ahold of them. With shipping, particularly, things can get confused. I’m wondering if Raven’s love story is not for another person at all, what if it’s self love? Because her most consistent relationships have actually been with familial relationships. Clarke as sister. Bellamy as big brother. Abby as mom. Sinclair as dad. While the romances have failed her. (whether they intended to start out this way or not idk, since all the actors who played her love interests asked to leave or were fired.) And I’m wondering if Murphy’s main love story is actually a spiritual love story. His romance with Emori is a good one, but here he is now wondering about immortality and morality, and he’s always been concerned with that just not secure enough to have answers. Maybe spirituality is his route to finding peace within his soul and coping with his mental illness and trauma? IDK. ANYWAY
I don’t think this show is flawless, and maybe they’ve had to franken-stitch some of their plotlines together to fit when things didn’t work out, and maybe some of their subplots ended in a way that didn’t satisfy us because we wanted something BETTER for those characters even though the tragic ending was part of the larger narrative, but I agree that it is seamless, one leading to the other to the next. When I look back at the storylines I didn’t understand or didn’t like as much, I can see how they fit with the larger narrative. How they lead to the ending the whole show is heading towards.
It’s actually very exciting. It’s not a new way to tell stories, it’s an old one, but it’s not one we see on tv very often, with its ratings and early cancellations and dependence on seasonal !POW! endings to keep people watching, and it’s impatience with slow story telling. They COMMITTED to a long term story despite the risk, and that must have been really hard with the pressures from hollywood and the money people and fandom and reviewers and even the cast. it’s remarkable and I can’t wait to see how it’s wrapped up. No matter what the endings are for our fave characters, I think it will be fascinating to see. And being able to watch the whole show, knowing how it ends, and that it was all crafted to be that way, is going to be really cool. It’s impressive, actually. I think the future will actually be much kinder to this show than the present is. Watching it week to week, you can’t see the development so much, but when we get the whole thing, everyone will be able to see it. I think this series is going to count as a future classic.
It’s like the reverse of GOT. We expected GOT to be novelistic, based on the epic ASOIAF novels as it was, we expected it to have a grand structure that pulled everything together and gave it a bigger meaning, and in the end, it was trash shlock with no meaning past boobies, action, trauma porn, and dragons. HOWEVER, The 100 was thought to be some trash teen scifi soap with no meaning but hooking up, action, trauma porn and apocalypses, and it’s ending up being an epic novelistic series with a grand structure that pulls everything together and gives it meaning. Basically, if JR had been hired by HBO to do GOT, he would have done it right. But D&D were hollywood hacks and flim flam men who only know how to do surface and don’t understand story. (and are also racist and misogynistic bullies.)
ANYWAY, nonny. Do you have a blog? You should be writing this stuff down under your own name. If you send it to me on anon because you don’t have your own blog, you should think about it. I’m pretty sure that @jeanie205 and @travllingbunny would agree with me. I have limited what meta I reblog due to past experiences, but I think other people would like to follow you.

I saw some people saying Thiam is abusive... and I get why some people would think that, but I also think considering their storyline it also dosen't make sense. Yes, they fought, both physically and verbally, but they got over this and became friends. To me, Thiam would be a reasonable and interesting progression of their relationship. Just because some people don't see over the "fighting period" of their storyline, and that Dylan Sprayberry dosen't ship it, dosen't mean Thiam is wrong.
Thiam definitely isn’t “wrong”.
Literally if you like anything in this fandom someone will come along and tell you it’s abusive at some point. Honestly, people will twist even the most basic vanilla ships into the Embodiment of Evil simply because they don’t like it. Just like they will bend over backwards to tell you why should shouldn’t like the characters that you like. So as a big fan of antagonists and a serial enemies-to-lovers shipper,  whenever people start to talk about “abusive ships” I take it with a heavy grain of salt.
Most ships aren’t wholesale abusive or healthy, but rather have the potential to be either depending on how they’re being handled. (Side Note: there are some exceptions — obviously a father/daughter ship is going to be abusive and unhealthy no matter which way you slice it. But that’s an extreme example).
With regards to Sprayberry’s comments, while an actor’s opinion may inform their acting and can provide some insight in terms of strict canonical reads of the show, it certainly doesn’t disqualify the potential of a ship. A ship doesn’t need to be canon to be good. So just because Dylan Sprayberry doesn’t like thiam doesn’t mean that it’s bad, immoral or even invalid.
Most of us understand that our slash ships we ship aren’t actually canon, but we still ship them based off the potential that we saw in the show. Actors don’t have to like it for it to have value to many people.
If Dylan asked fans to not use his likeness in visual edits/manips than I think that would be fair, he has a right to say how he wants or doesn’t want his personal likeness used, but he would have no right to tell fans not to write fics about Liam that way because Liam Dunbar doesn’t belong to him. (Also while he has said that the edits make him uncomfortable, to my knowledge he’s never asked fans not to make them).
But back on the subject of “abuse” in a canon context — While there are some elements to Theo and Liam’s interactions that are certainly not exemplars of healthy behavior, I don’t think that the writers ever intended us to read their S6 interactions as “abuse”.
I don’t think that they were 100% friends before the show ended, but I do think that they were reluctant allies on the cusp of becoming friends. Had the show gotten 1-2 more seasons then I’m almost certain they would be.
Since they don’t have a romantic relationship or even a true friendship yet, their more violent interactions in S6 can’t really be read as an “abusive relationship”. So it’s totally reasonable to believe that they continue to bond and behave more and more healthily towards one another and eventually find a relationship. Romantic or platonic depending on what floats your boat.
In fact, I do think that the show wants us to assume that they become good (albeit bickering and occasionally rough-housing) friends eventually. And that’s not abusive.
However, I don’t think that it’s wrong of other fans to be interested in exploring the darker or more abusive potential aspects of the ship either. While the show does use a humerus tone in a number of their scenes, there are some darker elements underneath that are also quite compelling as well.
Liam’s very psychical rage combined with Theo’s willingness to accept physical abuse (either because he gets off on it in S5 or because he thinks he deserves it in S6) could make for a very volatile relationship. Liam is also very verbally discouraging to Theo, particularly when Theo is trying to help or to improve himself.
Additionally Liam has a lot of unresolved damage about Theo and I’m pretty sure has projected anger at himself (for how he tried to kill Scott to save Hayden) onto Theo (whom, while guilty in MANY ways, did not force Liam to take those actions).
Liam’s desire to punish others when he’s upset is actually one of the challenges that he struggles with as a character (there are plenty of examples of this in the show). So him being coupled with someone that is antagonistic, masochistic, and ready to accept a beating because he thinks he deserves it (i.e. “you don’t have to stop”) has the potential to be abusive. It doesn’t have to be, but it has the potential.
So if an author wants to discuss headcanons or write a story that either acknowledges or leans into those elements that is also valid.
My bottom line is, if someone is saying “you shouldn’t like thiam because it’s abusive” that’s total bullshit. But people discussing how it has the potential to be abusive, and exploring those ideas is not.

I got tagged in a thing! :) thanks @pinchtheprincess :) :)
Pick 5 shows, then answer the following questions. Don’t cheat. Tag 10 peeps.
The Librarians
Warehouse 13
Once Upon a Time
Stargate SG-1
Killjoys
1. Who is your favorite character in 2?
Tumblr media
I have to pick one? Ok well I’m going for HG Wells but seriously HG and Myka are a pair *nods*
2. Who is your least favorite character in 1?
Least favourite on the show that makes me happy? the show that is made of pure joy? Oh that’s hard. That’s really hard. I suppose maybe I wasn’t all that fond of Nicole and I do have a bit of a love-to-conspiracy with Judson.
3. What is your favorite episode of 4?
Failsafe possibly. “Cut the red wire.” “Carter they are all yellow”. It was a stand-alone, riding an asteroid through Earth. I don’t know it was just fun and the first one that came to mind. I could do a really long list.
4. What is your favorite season of 5?
Season 1 probably. I did like the whole “bounty hunters in space” thing which has been background to the whole “war against the green” since then.
5. Who is your favorite couple in 3?
Tumblr media
They are why I’m on tumblr. Without them ... my life would be drastically different. #Rumbelle all the way!
6. Who is your favorite couple in 2?
OMG YES! Sorry I did say Myka and HG were a pair :)
Tumblr media
Oh I ship them so hard. I love them so much! Bering and Wells guys!!!
7. What is your favorite episode of 1?
Erm every single episode? Seriously I can’t tell you how many times I’ve rewatched this show. It is just made of happy. I suppose if I absolutely had to pick I would go for the season two premiere. It’s just “your average tuesday” :)
8. What is your favorite episode of 5?
Oh difficult. Erm. I tend to binge watch this show so they kinda blend. The one that is coming to mind was the one with the acid rain in season one. Johnny is trapped at The Royal with a hostage situation and he has to help Pawter (I ship them) and then at the end he’s reading a comic and Dutch joins him so there’s a great friendship moment as well. All the characters get a turn, Pree and Alvis are there. Although I do like the episode earlier in the season with that warrant invite party when they are chasing down Big Joe and so the boys do a team-up with Fancy because Dutch is being blackmailed by Khlyen, it was a good insight into the RAC.
9. What is your favorite season of 2?
Season 2! That was the big HG Wells season :) She was also in season 3 (some amazing amazing Bering and Wells stuff) and I have to be honest I haven’t seen season 4 and 5 because all the Bering and Wells stuff and HG’s sacrifice in the season 3 finale gave me so many feels I haven’t felt up to continuing. I mean how could the show top that?
10. How long have you watched 1?
It’s been about a year as I discovered it last summer. Unfortunately that was about the same time it was cancelled :( so four seasons is the lot. So sad because the show was so brilliant, I would have watched it for infinity.
11. How did you become interested in 3?
I got netflix to watch Daredevil, as it was a marvel show and I’m a marvel fan. I didn’t actually like Daredevil in the end but at the time as I had the sub I wanted to find more stuff on Netflix to make it worth it. I scrolled through and tried a dozen shows. Once Upon a Time hooked me in the first 5 seconds with the production value, the sunlight on the water as Charming rode the horse along that causeway... I’m not 100% sure what kept me watching initially as my memory is tainted by my present feelings. I think maybe I was just intrigued by the concept. Anyway this was when season 4 was going on I think, and I caught up over the summer and started season 5 with everyone else.
12. Who is your favorite actor in 4?
Amanda Tapping probably, purely because I think she’s one of the few I’ve seen in other things. Plus she plays my favourite character so /shrug
13. Which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5?
The Librarians #1 hard to vote against Bering and Wells but it’s a pairing against an entire show and The Librarians is just ... well it’s not perfection because there are things I would have done differently but it doesn’t make me annoyed, it doesn’t frustrate me, it just makes me happy.
14. Which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3 ?
Once Upon a Time simply because they made more. Once had what 22 episodes a season? And The Librarians had 10, apart from season 4 which had 12, and I watched 6 seasons of Once and The Librarians only had 4 so yeah math - Once.
15. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?
Haha oh man talk about fate making #4 be for this question. I have often said that Samantha Carter is my role model, so yeah hands down no question.
16. Would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?
Once and Stargate? It’s problematic because of the whole magic on Earth thing. I suppose perhaps if it had stayed only working within the town line, and there was a bubble around the town, then it could be said that the rules of physics had been altered due to some kind of phase distortion. Magic is after all science we don’t understand yet to paraphrase that famous quote, plus the whole magic bean portal thing - portal to other lands, other worlds - does fit with Stargate a bit. Then I suppose the characters embodying the fairytale, is a bit like the goa’uld and the various mythologies on Earth.
So maybe?
17. Pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple.
Unlikely but ok? Erm well according to The Librarians ship-a-thon, pretty much any character can be shipped with another. I’m struggling to find one that is unlikely AND ok because it’s one or the other. I don’t know. Sorry I’m coming up empty on this one.
18. Overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?
Killjoys. I don’t understand where they are going with it (season 5 is airing soon and it’s the last season so all will be revealed!) but I have faith that it will make sense and be ok. The show is complex but repeated rewatches have shown more foreshadowing than I had previously thought. Once Upon a Time was an amazing premise, the actual storyline not so much.
19. Which has the better theme music, 2 or 4?
Well they are both very good but we’re talking “Stargate, it's a great big whirl With a great big swirl to step inside to another world”
Tagging: Erm everyone? Because this question list is awesome! :)
Specifically: @mariequitecontrarie, @worryinglyinnocent, @little-inkstone, @sarashouldbestudying, @urban-trek-thru-middle-earth, @of-princes-and-savages, @jackabelle73

OUAT 2X07 - Child of the Moon
...Do I seriously have nothing better to do than just sit around writing long ass reviews for a show that already ended?
...Well then, I suppose ANITA LIFE!
Tumblr media
Shut up, you love them. Now go under the cut for some actually semi-intelligent thoughts!
Press Release
Ruby’s fear about turning into a wolf during the first curse-free Storybrooke full moon is confirmed when one of the town’s residents is viciously murdered, and Ruby is the prime suspect; Decker - aka King George - threatens to expose David as a shepherd, not a prince, and not fit to run the town as sheriff; and Leroy stumbles upon some treasure in the Storybrooke mine that could help bring Mary Margaret and Emma back into our world. Meanwhile, in the fairytale land that was, Red Riding Hood finds a kindred spirit in Anita (Annabeth Gish), a charismatic and mysterious leader of a pack of humans who, like Red, turn out to be wolves.
General Thoughts - Characters/Stories/Themes and Their Effectiveness
Past
Red’s journey in this episode is so well put together. The insecurities established in “Red-Handed” and then re-established here about her half-wolf identity acts as a great source of conflict. You can see how that sense of fear is decreased as Red spends more time with the wolfpack, and after establishing that bond, gets tested against an equally powerful bond with Snow. This is a great conflict because it’s entirely character based and expands on what we already know about Red.
Present
Not all segments need a message to work, but their needs to be some level of growth, and while it does happen to Ruby, it’s only through being given information and a pep talk that she’s able to reaffirm her control over her wolf form. While I genuinely liked this segment for it’s plot, characters, pacing, and the broader story, I feel like Ruby was somewhat sidelined in her own episode because what is reinforced is never gleamed through her own experiences or anything that she learns about herself. It’s David who investigates the mystery and he and Belle who never give up hope while Ruby largely defaults to regarding the situation as her fault until David gives her the evidence to contradict that. While I commend Ruby for being a realist and very mature about her situation, I wish that there had been a moment where she attempted for her own happiness (Think like a “Let It Go” moment) or if there was a moment that she noticed that called her murder into doubt.
Insights - Stream of Consciousness
-Those mine crystals look so bad! XD
-You better not be driving after drinking that beer, David! You’ve got a kid in the car!
-I’ll take those 38 lasagnas!
-Ruby is so amazingly mature. She understands her capabilities, but takes into account risks as to protect others.
-Snow is one hell of a fighter!
-Also, I can’t help but feel like that’s the first time Snow ever saw her wanted poster (This is before she met David). Look at that amazing frustration and sadness in her eyes as she’s seen how Regina has scarred her reputation. And that’s all before she and Red even converse about it moments later. Great acting, Ginny!
-I can’t get over how great Red’s costume is. It’s perfectly balanced between being something that gels with the classic fairytale while still looking like something a young adult would wear.
-Stranger stalking Red: You might want to get your eyes checked for jaundice! XD
-”Wh-wh-what are you doing here? Where’s David?” Damn, that hurt just watching it. I can’t even imagine how Regina must feel hearing Henry all but reject her comfort. :(
-”He got an emergency call this morning and asked me to look after you.” Good job, David! That was very good pushing aside your hatred of Regina for Henry’s sake!
-I just realized that Ruby is essentially Elsa in this episode! XD
-Ruby is fucking tough as nails! We’ve got to get her into a Street Fighter movie or something!
-I really want to know more about Quinn! The actor played him very well and he has this air to himself of both a vagabound and someone with something a bit deeper to him. Like, he’s an octave down from Killian on the drama-meter.
-”Is this some kind of trick?” Red, don’t follow the man into the scary basement until he answers that very important question! Didn’t Granny teach you stranger danger?!
-I want to live in an underground castle! Holy shit! I’d have all the space I want, stay cool, AND avoid other people! Hell to the fucking yeah!
-”I’m your mother.” My season 4 vibes and her later attitude are compelling me to say “I don’t care.”
-”It’s Billy’s truck.” “Who do you call to tow a tow truck.” It’s my personal headcanon that Billy’s truck is Mater from Cars. XD
-”I certainly never cared what would happen to them after they woke up...until now.” I love that look Henry gives Regina as she says this. It’s such a subtle Regal Believer moment.
-”Sometimes in sleep.” Why do I feel like that line was specifically put there for ass covering?
-”Once one controls something, one no longer need fear it.” Another instance of a villainous character (Though not in this episode!) giving the moral of the episode! That said, I wish it was said to Ruby herself, but I’m not peeved about that. Also, Rumple’s posture is incredibly comforting as he crouches to Henry’s level and gives him the necklace for free, giving some nice pre-confirmed Grandpa Gold feels.
-Charming! Good job calling out your cursed self for his shittiness!
-It may just be the result of my recent foray into the MCU, but I am getting some crazy Ego vibes odd of Anita.
-”That thing. That she-wolf.” George, you are the WORST.
-”Protecting your friend instead of everyone else.” He literally has her locked in a jail cell! It’s not like he’s forcing her to roam free!
-That was a great display of a Gopro camera on a wolf!
-I like how the montage was unclear about the exact amount of time it took between Red’s entrance into the castle and that latest transformation.
-George, you have the tiniest fucking group possible for this rebellion! How successful do you really think you’re going to be?
-I like the visual cue that the wolf gang sleeps like a pack.
-”Of course not.” I love how Snow clearly doesn’t believe that Red’s pack will hurt her, but still wants to be supportive of Red.
-”David see the good in you.” Ummm, what about you, Belle? Girl, you know I love you, but you already know all about Ruby’s goodness! She took you in!
-”I’m sort of an expert when it comes to rehabilitation.” Ummm, I’d say you’re getting there, but expert is a little too much.
-”I need to pay for all I’ve done.” Umm, Ruby. Your old village couldn’t kill you. What makes you this the D-List Storybrooke mob will do any better?
-I don’t know why, but I find it so funny that King George’s cursed name is “Spencer.” I think it just makes me think of iCarly.
-”May you always run free below the moon’s pale light.” This is a really well written line and I wish we could’ve heard it again outside of this episode.
-I like how in the D-List Storybrooke mob, only one person had the common sensibility to bring a fucking flashlight!
-Granny! You could’ve killed someone! That was a big Michael Bay-worthy explosion! I can only hope you sensed that that building was abandoned beforehand otherwise you’d have a body count!
-So someone in the D-List Storybrooke mob calls out “we’re not sheep,” and I’m just laughing because they followed George on a fucking dime!
-So I love how this is more or less David’s arc in “White Out” as well! XD
-George is so fucking confident about that hat, like there aren’t at least a couple of other magical items in this town! XD
-Also, how the hell did he get the hat?
-Red’s monologue in the final leg of the flashback has me thinking: What happened when Red and Granny reunited after the events of this flashback? There must’ve been some serious resentment on Red’s part and I wish we got to see how that resolved itself.
-Ruby, not that that run isn’t well earned, but you owe Belle on hell of an apology!
-Snow, your clothes are so clean right now! Did you find a laundromat in the Enchanted Forest?
Arcs - How are These Storylines Progressing?
Storybrooke getting Snow and Emma back - We gain one method of communicating with the EF and lose a way of getting there. I find that this arc is pretty good so far. The steps feel appropriately paced and I enjoy that the arc actually has a dead end. It makes for opportunities to use more characters (Ruby, King George, and Jefferson) and given them growth while allowing for the plot to feel more like a journey.
Rumple’s Redemption - I pointed this out in “Insights,” but Rumple’s more comforting attitude towards Henry, especially since neither knows they’re related yet, is a good follow-up step to the redemption that Rumple’s attempting for himself that was established in “Broken.”
Favorite Dynamic
Red and Snow - Red and Snow’s friendship has always been this nice delight, and in this episode, there’s a marvelous setup and payoff to it. Snow is beyond supportive to Red, understanding her and yet still fighting for a future where they can be happy and safe together. Like, she risks traveling by Regina’s bloodthirsty men for Red and is willing to give the wolfpack the benefit of the doubt for her! And even whe Red opts to stay with the wolfpack, Snow is nothing but understanding and gives a very in-character reason as to why! Honestly, I’m borderline shipping these two because they’re so good together!
Writer
Last season’s human home runs (Ian and Andrew) are at it again. The writing for this episode is largely great, using very rich dialogue and a good theme of taking control of your own life to deliver two well put together segments.
Rating
10/10. This is a legitimately great episode. It’s entertaining, and our mains are in fine form. The lore of the OUAT world is used well, as it contributes to the story in the past segment and not just the plot (An important distinction). While I take a small issue with a less impactful Ruby in the present, it simply doesn’t take away from the incredible storytelling that goes on elsewhere throughout both segments.
Flip My Ship - Home of All Things “Shippy Goodness”
Billy/Ruby - While I never thought much of them in “The Price of Gold,” their bit of flirting is absolutely heartwarming and Ruby’s grief following Billy’s death is so sad.
Red Beauty - These two! These fucking two! Belle and Ruby are just the two most supportive beans in the world! Also, “think of it as girl’s night.” Am I the only one thinking about how chains and whips can be quite exciting, especially when one’s hungry like the wolf?!

Sorry if this review was a little simplistic. Sometimes, there’s not a lot to say about an episode other than “this was good,” and I didn’t just want to say that a million times, but next time I’ll make like that episode’s title and see how “Into the Deep” I can go! For now, thank you for reading and to the fine folks at @watchingfairytales for putting this project together and giving my reviews a home on their page!

Moment that made you fangirl/boy the hardest: When we got Steve/Nancy/Jonathan fighting together! I loved that!
When it really disappointed you: How they broke up Steve/Nancy for Jancy. I love both ships (and the trio together ofc) but I didn’t like how they did it and didn’t have the trio interact at all. If Destiel was a M/F pairing they would have been canon years ago... or maybe not. The slow burn TV couples.
Following on from my post The Show Made Me Do it (https://thechroniclesofjudas.tumblr.com/post/166439114361/the-show-made-me-do-it), I felt the need to speak again on a topic that seems to bounce around Tumblr all the time re Destiel – if they were a M/F pairing they would have been canon years ago.
All fandoms have ships and Destiel is not only one of the biggest but one of the most passionate. As I’ve said before and many meta writer’s have said (in far more detail) before me – it is there embedded in the show. Sometimes blatant, sometimes in subtext. But it is there.
I disagree with the notion that it is guaranteed that if they were a hetro paring they would have been canon by now. There have been many hetro (canon) screen couples who have had their relationships drawn out and explored over many years. All too often in TV hetro couples are thrown together within a series or two and then torn apart before coming back together again a few series later. It is a fairly standard trope - one used time and time again by SPN - but of course, it’s not romantic (whatever!).
But sometimes writers make interesting choices and there are canon couple/ships out there that have not taken the standard path…and the Destiel parallels are everywhere. Here are a few I love:-
The Doctor and River Song/Doctor Who
This is a brilliantly written relationship because it is known by dedicated fans and GA alike that they were a couple until her death. They loved each other deeply. She was one of the few beings in the universe who knew The Doctor’s real name. He spent 1 night (on a planet where that lasted 25 years in Earth time) with her because he knew the following day she would die based on their weird timeline, and he needed a way and time to say goodbye. Then, following her death he uploaded her memory into a computer so it was there for all eternity – it’s a beautiful love story told in reverse. Following her death he has kept her photograph with him. He finds it hard to talk about her and shuts people down when they try. But their relationship was not shown in a traditional light on screen. She is known as The Doctor’s wife, they even are shown getting married – however each time their relationship is shown, it is in the guise of something else. Although River was shown “marrying” The Doctor it wasn’t actually him. This was the same when she “killed” him. This follows a general theme of their on-screen relationship. What you see is not always what happened. The Doctor and River Song is basically all subtext but even if you don’t ship them you are not told you are delusional, it is accepted because it is canon.
Donna Moss and Joshua Lynam/The West Wing
There are soooo many parallels between Josh/Donna and Dean/Cas it’s unbelievable. Seriously, if you’ve never seen the West Wing (why not, it’s awesome and some of the best screen writing, ever) do it just for this.
So in a nutshell, Donna was introduced in the pilot as the personal assistant of Josh Lyman, the duty chief of staff of the White House. She was only meant to be a minor recurring character (like all the other assistants) but her on screen chemistry (mostly snark) with Josh meant her role was stepped up in S1 and then made a main cast member for subsequent seasons. They are also a big ship from S1 ep1.
Despite their snark and sass with each other, they care for each other deeply and are a great team. Their professional and personal relationships bleed over as time goes on as well. Over the course of 7 seasons they are on the same side, opposing sides, they fall out, they support each other, they are jealous when one is a relationship with someone else. They are not a canon couple until late in the final 7th season, but before they finally get together, it is common for their other love interests to ask the other party if they are “treading on any toes”. Third parties are always assuming there is more them because of they way they are with each other. Donna is directly asked in one ep if she loves Josh – we never see/hear her answer as the ep ends but her face says it all. When Josh is shot at the end of S1 she is broken. She doesn’t leave his side. When he survives, after a brief moment of longing looks they return to their old ways.
Interestingly enough; the writers (who had no plans to make Donna into the character she was, it was fan driven) deliberately kept them apart until the last season. Once the ship was known they slowly wrote two interesting characters who gradually came together with their endgame to become canon.
This is just a TINY insight in TWW writing of Josh/Donna but even so… the Destiel parallels are everywhere.
William Riker and Deana Troi/Star Trek: TNG
This really shows my age! (FYI I was 7 when this series started, my mum was sooo excited Start Trek was coming back and wanted me to watch it too. I also loved it from the start.) This one is a little different in that in the pilot it is canon that Riker and Troi were ex’s who still had feelings for each other. Over the course of 7 seasons they were never “together” but they had this sub-textual under current. There was a lot of pining and long looks at each other with occasional kissing. Again there was a lot of jealousy if one party was involve with someone else.  When they comforted one another they refer as “Imzadi” meaning beloved. They continued in this fashion for the full 7 seasons and 2 films, only becoming canon again briefly in the 3rd film and following their marriage in the 4th film “Nemesis” -15 YEARS after the pilot.
Temperance “Bones” Brennan and Seeley Booth/Bones.
This is another couple that took 6 seasons to become canon – even then it was because the writer’s hand was forced. It was clear that the endgame was to make them a couple but their friendship was developed first. As such there were many of the traits mentioned above and shared with Dean and Cas. Their relationship was only made canon after Bones actress Emily Deschanel fell pregnant. They could have hidden it but the writer’s decided to bring their endgame forward. Writer’s are fluid like that – we can change the direction as and when required.
If in 4.01 Castiel had chosen a female vessel (and this was the ONLY) change to the narrative) no one would have an issue with believing this to be an epic love story. But because it’s two men, it’s dismissed. (Technically one man and one being of multidimensional wavelength of celestial intent without gender, but hey.)
As @tinkdw said in her post Cas and Dean could have been totally platonic, (https://tinkdw.tumblr.com/post/163833238972/cas-and-dean-could-have-been-totally-platonic) I would have loved this show even if Destiel was a “family don’t end with blood” story. The brother Dean chose. It would have been an epic love story of a platonic/familial kind and free will. But it has been MADE romantic. The actors, writers, directors, editors, set designers etc, they have MADE this a slow burn romance. It might not have initially been planned that way but that is how stories (and life) work – it’s all fluid.
Even if you take out the favourite argument for it never being canon which is “Dean is straight” (he’s not but I’m not here to dissect that, meta writers have done a much better job at that than I can ever do), you are basically saying “a person/character has no ability to change or have room for personal growth”. And let’s face it, even in canon Dean’s already subverted many of the character traits he’s known for – why not this one?
It’s not AS common to keep a couple from going canon for as long as Supernatural has Dean and Cas, but in the end, I believe they will make the wait worth it. There is precedence after all. This isn’t a long list of slow burn TV couples there are so many we all could list, but these are just some that strike me a good parallels and leaves me hopeful for the future of these two idiots.

On Scarlett Johansson’s Inside the Actors Studio Interview and Anti Bruce x Natasha Shippers
If you’re not a Brutasha/Brucenat/HulkWidow fan, please just keep scrolling. Polite has left the building.
Doesn’t this seem like deja vu? It took less than 24 hours before the usual suspects started up their sad propaganda machines again. This really is why we “can’t have nice things” or enjoy a rare moment of validation. I got testy late last night with a  person who seemed reasonable at first glance but dismissed almost every single thing that is canon in the films and twisted what was said in this week’s Inside the Actors Studio interview (s22.5) with Scarlett Johansson. It’s getting worse as the video is going around.
Let’s get something straight right off the bat. If Scarlett had meant FRIENDSHIP, she would have said “friendship”. What she said was "my character HAS this ONGOING RELATIONSHIP WITH MARK RUFFALO’S CHARACTER.” Scarlett brought this affirming description up while discussing the way her own emotions can intersect with her character’s during the acting process. As an example, she talked about the emotions she was feeling one day while filming during Infinity War and not knowing why she had a feeling of “devastation” come over her. She said, “It was something about this character that Mark plays [Bruce/Hulk], and this something that should feel so solid and then suddenly doesn’t.” She did not say that her feeling had anything to do with their romantic relationship. What she meant by “something” is ambiguous, but it’s pretty clear she was not talking about the romance itself. Notice Scarlett did not say they were “just friends” or “broken up” or refer to their romantic relationship in the PAST tense either.  In fact, she did not say anything negative about their romantic relationship at all.
I suspect the “something” has to do with the character arc for Bruce and Hulk that Mark has said will happen over the next three films--Ragnarok, Infinity War, and Avengers 4--and function like a Banner/Hulk solo storyline. Frankly, there are many “devastating” things in Bruce’s background to which Scarlett could feel a connection. The scene she is likely talking about filming is a Natasha and Bruce reunion, confirming they will meet face to face after being apart by as many as three years after Hulk/Bruce left presumably to protect everyone at the end of Age of Ultron. Bruce is going to be a changed man--something that was solid but is then not so solid perhaps. He and Hulk should be on an improved footing, but they will have possibly faced enslavement on Sakaar (and possibly stardom in the arena) and fighting the Fenris Wolf or the demon Surtur and we don’t know what else yet. Again, there is a lot of potential “devastation” for Scarlett to connect with. We’ve only had one still of Mark in character so far, and he’s looking pretty darn happy to see Thor. Come November 3rd, we’ll know more. Still, there is nothing here that would sink the romantic relationship; in fact, it’s likely to make the characters’ connections even stronger.
Scarlett then went on to talk about how her feeling of “devastation” mirrored what had been going on in her own life at the time. I took that to mean the breakup of her marriage, which considering her remarks disparaging monogamy, she may well have initiated. I’m only guessing. Scarlett is a private person. She doesn’t make clear how her life connected to anything specific in the film’s plot, so everything anyone says (me included) is speculative on this point.
Scarlett then repeats her point from earlier in the interview when she says that as an actor, it’s her privilege to be able to bring her own experiences and emotions to her work and be able to play with and examine them with the help of another actor, Mark in this case, who helped her work through and understand her feelings during this creative and cathartic process. Whatever happened in the film, it’s clear that working with Mark in their ongoing romantic screen relationship brought about a personal insight and understanding for her about her real life feelings. Again, there is nothing here to sink the ship.
Please don’t lose heart. The bottom line is these people who trash our CANON ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP are jealous and grasping at wisps of smoke that are not there. They like to make us feel bad, so they can conjure up hope for their NON-canon pairings. The best they can do is make things up and ignore, belittle, abuse, and try to erase everything they can. These people are the bullies kicking sand in our faces because we are a small community. They want us to believe their “alternative facts,” but we are onto them. They want to see Bruce and Natasha pushed into a “friend zone,” so she’ll apparently have a lot of free time to frolic instead with their favorite character in the middle of Infinity War. The odds of that happening are in the million to one range. Instead of celebrating some great male-female, BFF friendships (or a couple of murderous encounters), some want to keep throwing shade and spleen at us, the ship, the characters, the writers, and you name it. I used to feel really sorry for some of these people. I still empathize with people who are responsible enough to use the anti tags and don’t post demeaning things or erase characters or try to shove Bruce to the friend zone. I respect fans who stay in their own lane if they don’t want to join and enjoy our party.
The hate shippers tried these same tactics with Scarlett’s Entertainment Weekly interview from December of 2015 before Civil War came out. They attempted to make us lose hope back then and twisted or omitted parts to fit their desires and wishful thinking. They thought the Russos would “save Natasha.” They want what we have, so they lash out at us and our ship. Nevertheless, we persisted and in the bleakness that was Civil War were rewarded with reassurances both obvious (”We could sure use a Hulk.”) and subtle (the looks from Rhodey and the smiles from Nat when Bruce is mentioned, the color of her clothing, and her Hulk-Gem necklace). It’s been a long voyage since Avengers and Age of Ultron, but we’ve stuck to our course. There is no reason to feel discouraged now. Ignore the anti shippers. Let them choke on their broken dreams.
Do not let them discourage your joy and enthusiasm for what we Bruce x Natasha fans have to celebrate: A Romantic Relationship between two wonderful characters played by the two actors with the best chemistry in the whole darn MCU. Even the rest of the cast members root for Bruce x Natasha despite how poorly some of their own fans behave. This ship has withstood a three-year hiatus, but we now know for certain we will see them together again in Infinity War. Babe, this ship sails on!
