summary ⇾ after a training gone sour, lo’ak knows who to find in order to keep his brother in check. details ⇾ 2,299 words / neteyam sully x na’vi!reader / 🌸 comfort fluff / established relationship / gn!reader notes ⇾ i know i’ve been m.i.a lately but... i’ve been inspired to write for avatar so... here it is! ✨

the flora and fauna that surrounds you is what makes you think this–the mixes of pink, blue and green–must be heaven on earth. the fireflies that float about, sounds of kiri’s fascination as she occasionally lures one or two butterflies over your wandering eyes; the two of you laying side by side on the grass, staring ahead at the cocooning trees.

until a branch snapping cues the two of you to be on alert. you sit up, leaning partially to shield kiri as your hands fetch the dagger slotted by your ankle; kiri baring her fangs with a hand on your shoulder, squeezing it out of instinct.

the both of you visibly relax when–”couldn’t you just announce your presence like any normal being?” you scoff a laugh, putting your dagger away as kiri sighs, shaking her head, hand slipping from your shoulder, “lo’ak, where’s neteyam?”

“i’m here to ask y/n that.”

based on how lo’ak’s eyes lower to the ground, hands behind his back, it makes your heart clench at the implication. he’s gone... again. you glance to kiri, who nods, a silent and understanding of go, it’s okay. i’ll see you later. rising to your feet, you align your gazes with lo’ak, the younger boy offering you a small smile.

“you okay?”

he chuckles, nodding with gratitude; familiar to your warmth and care, “i’m not the one you should be checking up on,” he shakes his head, “not this time, at least.”

“again?” you warm up your ankles and shake your wrists, prepping your body for the way you’d need to climb because–”we can see everything from up here...” your voice comes out in a mere whisper, yet only one can hear you. neteyam circles his arm around your waist, leaning in close as he presses his forehead to the side of your face, “and yet, all i see is you.”–where you’re about to go is a place only you and neteyam know.

somewhere only we know–how foolish. how childish. how... safe and happy you two were at a location that provided you privacy to be whoever you wanted to be. there, you are only known as yourself and neteyam was only known to be neteyam. no labels. no warrior. nothing. just you and him. him and you. together.

“training didn’t go well today, that’s all i can say,” lo’ak mumbles under his breath. before he can get another coherent sentence out, he’s left breathless when you take off past the trees and soon he notices you’re climbing and swinging on the branches.

“be back by dinner!” kiri calls out, well-aware it would reach you despite it looking otherwise.

neteyam feels the wind brushing against his skin; calm, tranquil, the coos of the birds soaring above and the low murmurs of leaves clashing below. normally, his senses would be heightened at the sound of branches creaking but this... here–his safe place–is no ordinary place.

it’s one of the highest points that grants him the view of his home; his people. sometimes... once in a while, that gets suffocating. being the eldest, being the one who’s supposed to fit in the role-model mould... it got suffocating, overwhelming.

one day, you brought him here. past the groans and moaning of how much higher?! he’s grateful this became the place he frequented when things got hard to process; when it got hard to breathe. you were here with him, hand-in-hand, his head on your shoulder, arms hugging your waist; his safe place, his person.

here, he was not neteyam te suli tsyeyk’itan; he was just neteyam... and yours.

“you know,” your voice echoes into his ears, then his eyes are blessed with the sight of you climbing up the last branch to reach the one he’s sitting on, “if i knew this would be the place we’d come often, i would’ve chosen somewhere easier to access...”

“you’re such a baby,” he scoffs a laugh, rubbing his nose with the back of his hand, a quiet sniff entering your ears–he’s not crying.

“you’re the one to talk,” you quip back, just as you take your seat next to him. that gets him to quiet down and you’re half-regretting what you’ve said. “sorry... too soon?” you try to make up for it but he only shakes his head, moving to lean against you with a soft not soon enough...

his body grows towards you automatically. like you’re the source of light and he’s the receiver. taking in as much as he possibly can; for when things get heavy, for when things get dark. all he has to think about is his family and what’s at stake; you, you, you–all of you. his eyes flutter shut and he puts his arms around you, scooting you closer until one of your legs nearly go over his due to how close he’s pulling you.

you sigh and allow him to bury himself in your embrace. his face soon meeting your neck, arms tightening around your frame, tail lightly caressing your lower back out of habit. it reminds him that this is what home feels like; what home was meant to be. past the fighting and defending one’s honour, he was meant to be your lover.

you place a hand on his thigh, now noticing the marks of scratches that are on his skin. it doesn’t make him flinch when your fingers brush over it, but what makes him shudder is the way you turn your body so you can cocoon him in. one arm slithering around his shoulders, pulling him in and he inhales deeply against your pulse; your scent.

“you wanna talk about it?” you pry gently, lips to his temple.

initially, he shakes his head.

but a couple of gentle strokes to the back of his head, he relents. details of how strict his father was, the pressure to please and succeed, the role of the oldest sibling weighs heavy on his shoulders and... well... he may or may not have raised his voice back in retaliation for the first time in months. it was normal, even if he thinks otherwise. for every insecurity or dark thought he has, you’ve always combatted with the opposite he longs to be true (it is, he just stubbornly refuses to admit now).

“what if i’ll never live up to him?” good, you’re not supposed to be a copy of your father. you’re meant to be your own person.

“what if i can’t protect them?” as much as you feel responsible to protect everyone else, you should protect yourself first. that’s what your parents would want before you help others.

“what if i’m a failure?” now you’re just talking a load of nonsense.

then, it always, always end with: “thank you,” he lifts his head up, eyes closed as he leans his forehead against yours. his eyes gently open, the moment seemingly soft, serene, pure but you–”for nearly breaking a muscle climbing up to find you? i think i should start claiming a price to this.”

“you dense baboon,” he hisses. the tone of his voice only makes you laugh. giddily, knowing very well by the sound of his voice, it seems like you’ve breathed life back into his lungs.

“i mean, if you call me a dense baboon, what about you? you’re the one who–and i quote–will never love another–dense baboon.”

he gives up with a sigh, eyes fluttering back shut that it makes you give in. after all, he did have a bad day. might as well let him win.

“ah, okay, okay,” you coo, easing the hand that was once on his thigh, then crawling up on his neck, now reaching his cheek where you cup it tenderly. it beckons him to open his eyes, briefly, before it instinctively closes when he feels your breath over his lips; then, the fleeting moment of your kiss that makes his body tense and relax at the same time.

“just one?” he murmurs, a hand of his now meeting the nape of your neck to keep you there as he leans against you.

“how bad of a day did you have?”

“might need a few more to forget about it,”

“you do know this ends with me dragging you back to your father, right?”

“...then give me all the kisses now.”

maybe it was thirty minutes, maybe an hour, but all neteyam knows is that he’s calm and at ease as he walks along the path back home with you; his hand in yours, step by step mimicking one another. neteyam succumbed to your wishes of heading back, an hour or two before dinner would take place.

neteyam’s lost in the moment, merely following your hand dragging him like a compass.

it’s not until he nearly loses his footing by staring at you instead of where he’s walking. he tightens his hold on your hand, a soft gasp leaving his lips as you tug him up. it happens so fast; so sudden. his other hand now meets your waist for stability as you come face to face with him–so close he can count the lashes lining your eyes, the smile that twirls up on your lips.

“if you wanted another kiss, all you had to do was ask,”

he scoffs with the roll of his eyes but his hands, his body betrays him. it always does. always weak when it comes to you.

you let go of his hand to circle them behind his neck as he lures you towards him. one hand securing you by the hip, the other reaching up to pillow against your cheek as he lightly noses along yours.

“thank you,” he says, in a mere whisper.

“you said that earlier,” you try to joke, only to get ignored when he gazes into your eyes, making whatever thought you had in your mind fade away; replaced with just the one looking back at you. you lean into his touch as his thumb brushes the under of your eye and as cheesy as it sounds, you feel your heart swelling at such tender moment you two were sharing.

“for seeing me,” his voice blends with the gust of wind that envelopes the pair of you. his words, so seemingly simple but it held much more than that. for coming to me whenever you know something is wrong. for loving me; thank you for loving me.

“i’ll always see you,” i’ll always find you; love you.

he cracks a smile, “even when i’m way up too high in the trees?”

“especially then.”

((“i’m sorry, sir,” neteyam has his head lowered, “for how i acted, for the way i behaved. i will do better.”

he swallows, hands locked behind his back as he waits for a response. half-anticipating for a reprimanding, half-afraid of what’s to come. he peeks up at the lack of response, now noticing the soft look in his father’s eyes.

“good,” is all jake says, then motioning him away with the movement of his chin pointing to the side, “dismissed.”

neteyam swallows, as you gape; having stood by his side since the second you’ve dragged him back. neteyam glances to you, then back to his father who remains unmoving.

“d-dad–”

“dismissed,” jake repeats himself, now looking to you with a small nod. you’re able to give a smile, understanding jake’s intentions. he may look stern and he certainly in hell is strict, but he loves his family and it shows. you can see it in the way jake strives to protect those he loves and that comes with a price of being too harsh sometimes. it’s the mutual understanding you have that got jake to warm up just a bit to you (compared to how neytiri awed over the way she noticed her son adoring you).

it was your cue to bow in respect before you wrap your fingers on one of the wrists behind neteyam’s back to tug him away. he doesn’t object, already stumbling to follow you but just as he glances over his shoulder, he could’ve sworn he saw his father crack a smile before he turned his back.

”if i knew getting him to date someone would get him to return quicker, i’d thrown him off the edge earlier,” jake comments, snorting at his own remark as he tidies up the equipment. he lets out a soft augh when he feels a nudge to his head, knowing very well of who it might–”you promised you’d go easier on him.”

“i am!” he sighs, looking up to neytiri who has her hands on her hips, raising a brow, “i’ll... have a chat with him, down by the river later.”

she somehow raises her brow higher and he extends his arm out, pointing right at–”you sure we won’t fall?” neteyam squints his eyes at you, watching as you effortlessly hook your knees over the branch, dangling your body upside down with a grin, “do not tell me that the great warrior neteyam, son of jake sully is afraid?”

neteyam scoffs a laugh and threatens to bite your ankle when he grips onto it, only to yelp when you nudge him forward and he has to rely on his reflexes to follow your lead. when he’s securely hanging next to you, he’s able to smile widely at you, finding your hand on the branch between your bodies. it makes you laugh this time, tail lining up the side of his body as he swirls his along your legs. it was playful, childish... it was happiness.

neytiri’s eyes soften at the sight, a smile crawling to her face. she directs her gaze back to jake, who has this shit-eating-grin on his face.

“get to him before dark. i want a nice, peaceful dinner as a family tonight.”

“roger that.”))

[TWST AU]: An MC/Yuu who fights like Xu Shang-Chi

[Synopsis]: In this timeline, MC/Yuu was transported to Twisted Wonderland and uses their knowledge of material arts to survive through chaotic adventures.

[(A/N)]: I love Simu Liu and how he acted as Shang-Chi to show Asian representation in the Entertainment Industry.

The first time MC/Yuu came to Twisted Wonderland, they were in a middle of a battle against The Ten Rings clan.

MC/Yuu broke out of the coffin with their bare hands, shattering the lid into splinters and scaring poor Grim.

They were confused and still on defense mode then asked Grim who send him.

MC/Yuu: Who sent you? Wenwu?

Grim: Who-wu?

MC/Yuu: Never mind. *Sprints out of the room*

Grim: Hey! I need those clothes!

The chase still happens like in the canon storyline, but with some parkour stunts and losing Grim until later in the Library.

Crowley was almost knocked down while he came into scene, but you know you can’t sneak up on a former assassin.

MC/Yuu (plus Grim after he was captured by “The Whips of Love”) were dragged into the Dorm Sorting Ceremony and the same disaster happens.

MC/Yuu: *Witnessing a mess after under a minute* …This is crazier than seeing Morris the first time.

They brought Grim in as an emotional support buddy since their childhood wasn’t too good.

[Campus]

MC/Yuu: *Blocks an attack and knocks out the Savanaclaw student* I told you to stop, but you didn’t listen. I mean, what were you proving? Your large physique or that attitude?

Ace: Whoa! How did you do that?

MC/Yuu: I was trained to be an assassin in a clan called The Ten Rings. They’re not good people and last time I was with them, Wenwu was tracking down his son after he left.

[During Chapter 1]

Trey: Thanks for coming with me, MC/Yuu. I could use a set of hands.

MC/Yuu: No problem. If it saves Ace from being a “magicless student”, then he doesn’t have to complain about my living situation.

Trey: Yeah, it’s for the next Unbirthday Party. I just needs some over from that tree.

MC/Yuu: Okay. That sounds easy.

Trey: Careful, they have an outer shell covered in spikes. I provide some gloves-

MC/Yuu: *Kicks the tree which shook off some chestnuts* This enough for the tart?

Trey: *Surprised* Huh. They are enough.

[Back in the Heartslabyul kitchen]

MC/Yuu: Wenwu talked about some wannabe who was impersonating him as The Mandarin, the leader of the Ten Rings. Anyway, I found out he’s reintroduced to his career of becoming an actor.

Deuce: *Curious* When did that happened?

MC/Yuu: Oh, when Shang-Chi, Katy and I were looking for Xialing after she was imprisoned.

Deuce: Oh.

[During Chapter 2]

MC/Yuu: *Fighting against Overblot!Leona* Is this what you want?! *Pulls out replicates of the Ten Rings* You sore fighter!

Ace: Beat his ass, MC/Yuu!!!

Deuce: Careful, Prefect!

Jack: Don’t kill him!

MC/Yuu:

Overblot!Leona: *Falls back from the impact and spat out the Blot stone*

Everyone: OH!!!

Ruggie: Ya didn’t have to knock him unconscious!

MC/Yuu: I’m sorry! I’m still getting use to the rings.

Epel: What should we start with?

MC/Yuu: *Holds up a wooden board* Break it. Use whatever strength you possess and maybe we’ll start from there.

[Within a second, Epel breaks the board with his palm. Except he received 5 splinters.]

MC/Yuu: *Inhales with caution* Vil is gonna kill me.

Medusa!Reader and Shang Tsung in Mortal Kombat 1 Story Mode Part 10

Spoilers for MK1 Story Mode ahead: Proceed with caution

You went with Liu Kang, Geras, Sindel and her daughters, Tanya, and the former Lin Kuei brothers who saved you, back to Ying's Fortress in Earthrealm. You made your way to the main courtyard with Sindel along with the two ninja brothers. Occasionally taking out any soldiers posted on guard duty, which included you turning them into stone before they could scream and tipping them over the steep cliff the walls sit on. When you arrived there, you followed Sindel to shut down the soul stealers when splitting up the group on behalf of Lord Liu Kang's suggestion.

There you did what you do best in combat, cutting down enemies with your blades and poisoning the rest, sometimes even using their stone selves as shields. While Sindel knows that even the Healers in her court are taught some combat, it's still a bit surprising to be reminded of your more violent tendencies. Although, you both missed being in one another's company even with kombat involved.

Unfortunately, you could do nothing as some floating hooded figure sent Mileena and Tanya flying into another section of the courtyard, not when you were busy trying not to get your head sliced off. Even worse, some soldiers were quick thinkers and used their shields or swords to spot you when you took off your mask. Fortunately, you were able to rely on the others, including Liu Kang, to occasionally help take out Shao's loyal soldiers in your blindspots. It wasn't too long before every one of the soldiers was disposed of and the soul stealers disposed of. You quickly rush to the women's side when you see them, already conjuring a thousand different scenarios on how they may need healing. However, what you weren't expecting was to find the floating hooded figure wearing the face of Outworld's late Emperor, Jerrod. Jerrod who has always treated everyone in the palace, including you and your fellow trainees, well. The Emperor who saw you, a young woman from nowhere, had great potential. When you saw that it is him, you gave a bow.

"My Emperor, how we have all missed you, dearly."

"You seem to have come far, Y/N. Please, attend to Tanya. I believe she may be suffering from broken bones."

You don’t waste time getting to work and luckily for you and Tanya, her ribs weren’t broken as much as some were cracked and internal bleeding. Both which isn’t hard for you to fix with a little magic. You’re also not surprised to hear from Jerrod that it wasn’t Li Mei’s fault for his death. But one problem at a time, all of you have two Sorcerers to defeat.

Kuai Liang and you lead the others through the maze of tunnels within the mountain until you find the gigantic chamber housing the Dragon Army. You had to swallow back some venom that threatened to spill from your lips, not noticing how a few drops spilled on the stone warrior you hid behind when you found Shang Tsung and Quan-chi smugly watching their animated army train for the upcoming battle. To think, in a past timeline, you would’ve joined them in their heinous crimes!

You glance towards Sindel in concern when Mileena offers to distract the Sorcerers so the rest of you can surround them. Luckily, the heiress’s plan goes off without a hitch thanks to her compelling performance that would’ve had you fooled. You sprang into action at Mileena’s signal, automatically going for Shang Tsung’s neck only to barely avoid a magical blast from Quan-chi, thanks to Mileena’s last-minute interference. Shang Tsung reaches for his neck before letting out a patronizing chuckle. Quan-chi smirks in amusement.

”For someone that appears to hate you so much, she seems incredibly determined to end you herself.”

”A most romantic gesture.”

You give a hiss “Will it still be considered one when I make you watch me tear out your beating heart?”

You and Mileena fight together against the Deadly Alliance, your hydromancy being the perfect counter against Shang Tsung’s fire magic. It felt good seeing the Sorcerer’s smug expression morph into one of fear when they almost repeatedly get bit by your snakes or you. Mileena managed to knock out the crown Shang Tsung used to control the Dragon Army during the fight. When the Sorcerer realizes it’s no longer on his head, you put one scythe to this throat and one to Quan-chi’s to keep either of them from reaching for it. Yet nothing could ever be that easy, could it?

You expected to see the Sorceress Lord Liu Kang warned about earlier, rather than another version of Shang Tsung and… You??? Your counterpart was lovingly holding the other Shang’s arm and wearing a complimenting regal outfit like him. What shocked you the most was that she had your features, but Ashe wasn’t wearing a mask! It also appears the Shang Tsung, you know, seemed just as baffled. Your other self’s gaze landed on you with such contempt that it threatened to make you curl into a ball. You let out an undignified squeak when she grabs your face with her claws, threatening to break the skin.

“I have to agree, darling husband. Even with our interference, she barely proved useful. What more, your poor copy lost this one to a bloody savage.”

She then pushed you away, causing you to stumble in place. You barely heard Liu Kang explaining what’s happening as Your mind reels from the information that another YOU not only caused your accident but is also MARRIED to Shang Tsung?!? And apparently, Lord Liu Kang once turned another version of you into sand at your request?!?

”Of course, I tried to make Shang Tsung in my timeline but it just couldn’t beat the original.”

Your counterpart gives a longing look toward the other Shang Tsung, who takes her hand to kiss it.

”So when he found me again, I was so overjoyed that I didn’t mind exterminating all life in my timeline. Not as long as I can be his side for all times.”

”Always”

You felt like vomiting at the two Titans. Your other self giggled when the Shang Tsung and Quan-chi you knew voiced their outrage at being pawns and left to slaughter. Titan Shang Tsung then holds the crown the other Sorcerers made up to your Titan Counterpart, requesting a kiss for good luck. She obliged, causing a venomous glow to spread throughout the crown from her lips before Titan Shang Tsung crumpled it like paper to control all the souls within it. They both bid all of you goodbye before teleporting away, leaving behind a dark alternate, Sindel and Raiden. You hold up your scythe to Shang Tsung’s throat once more.

”If I sense any treachery from you or Quan-chi, I will finish you both.”

Shang Tsung only gives a chuckle as he agrees that’s fair enough.

It would appear that all of you were facing foes more powerful than initially thought when the other Sindel shrieked to halt you long enough for Raiden to electrocute the ground. This attack causes Mileena’s serum to wear off and her Tarkatan symptoms to become apparent, giving her enough edge to defeat Raiden. But there was still the other Sindel to handle.

You always knew your Empress to be a force of nature, but this new one was entirely new! All of you fought her at once, but she annihilated you like you were nothing but bugs to her. This Sindel knew to use her hair to strike you in the head before your stone gaze could affect her, causing you to fall to the ground and hit your head against the stone beneath with a resounding CRACK.

When you came too, your ears rang, and everything sounded underwater, the world around you shaking. Your head feels fuzzy, and you distantly note that you may have a concussion. However, when the name "Sindel" is heard, your hearing and vision immediately focus again. Kitana was shaking you and telling you Sindel was severely injured. You swiftly get into action as you are led/dragged by Kitana to wear a bleeding Sindel lies.

You feel your face pale behind your mask, and your heart races before you steady yourself and narrow your eyes in determination. You first use water from your flask to wash away the excess blood from Sindel to see where the bleeding is coming from, then you tear open her clothing for better access. You bark for Jerrod to carefully bend Sindel's knees and for him and Kitana to talk gently to her and keep her awake. You then dig into your apothecary bag to pull out some pain-killing seeds for Sindel to chew on before you get to work stuffing gauze in her wound, and then more cause before attempting to patch her up with a slightly wettened bandage. However, soon, more blood leaks through and completely drenches it, and Sindel's skin becomes cold and pasty. It's as you feared; the other Sindel stabbed her in the stomach artery and lost blood too fast.

You've never been the praying type but you fervently pray to Deliah and Argus under your breath to save Sindel.

"I'll do anything asked of me and pay any boon, just please, please, please, save Sindel. Save my dear friend. "

Sindel puts her hand over yours.

"You did your best, Y/N"

Your eyes fill with tears as you are gently pushed to the side by Kitana so She, Mileena, and her father can be around Sindel as she takes her last breath, naming Mileena Empress of Outworld. Your hands are still stained with her blood. Although Jerrod absorbs Sindel's soul into his body, it comforts you little, knowing you failed. You reluctantly follow Lord Lui Kang out of the fortress, leaving behind Sindel's body.

Everyone talks about Bi-Han being gullible/stupid etc for believing Shang Tsung + being manipulated by him. But Bi-Han sided with Shang Tsung because he wanted to break the Lin Kuei free from Liu Kang's control. He only accepted the alliance when he saw the Dragon Army and thought they actually had a good chance of winning. Meanwhile it's crickets on Hanzo "I killed your brother for no reason" Hasashi who got played by Quan Chi the man who actually killed his family & clan and whom Scorpion still grovels to. Not to mention that Raiden said he would try to get Hanzo's family restored if he didn't kill Bi-Han and this loser did it anyway. And this is only the tip of the iceberg for how much jackassery this fool pulls across every game. Yet Bi-Han is the irredeemable evil asshole because he *checks notes* says some mean things to his brothers >:( and some of this is done as Noob Saibot which btw loops back to Hanzo because Bi-Han wouldn't have ever become Noob if Hanzo hadn't killed him.

I think the most gullible person in MK1 was in fact Shang Tsung himself, who for some reason believed that a powerful mysterious being showing up out of nowhere would willingly share her power with him. Talk about a new level of naivety!

I have a theory of mine, that Titan Shang Tsung gave enough information about (previous timeline) Sub-Zero to his younger version, because breaking Lin Kuei from Liu Kang’s control was a personal matter to him. Like yes, it would weaken his enemy and bring the planned chaos and “evilness” into the timeline he despited, but looking at the fact how Lin Kuei in majority of source material was an assassin clan with a strong, old-centuries ties to Shang Tsung, it feels to me likely that "reclaiming" the Lin Kuei was a matter of honor to him. Double so, as some sources went so far and presented elder Sub-Zero if not outright the favorite then one of favorite assassins working for the sorcerer. Frankly, as the story mode shows alone, “Damashi” talked and warned both Shang Tsung and Quan Chi about Lin Kuei before Sub-Zero even met any of them, so there was some behind-the-scenes preparation done and for all we know Bi-Han was targeted by the evil Titan before the main events even unfolded.

As for Bi-Han, right now he has this misfortune to be blamed and hated for everything, whether he actually did it or not, so no matter what is the topic, he is in a losing position by definition. However, like you said, Sub-Zero did not agree on the spot to join Shang Tsung and actually had a chance to see what the supposed allies could offer him so it is not like he fell for empty promises alone. What is important to remember, Lin Kuei were one of major defenders of Earthrealm, so Bi-Han’s choice to switch sides actually would weakened Fire Lord’s forces, leaving him with Shaolin Monks and - depending how in Liu Kang’s timeline military technology evolved - the armed forces of nations that had no idea about Outworld’s threat. But the first part of Shang Tsung and General Shao’s plan was about depriving Sindel and her daughters of the throne, so there is possibility that before Earthrealm would be put in direct danger, Sub-Zero could alter his plans depending how well the teamwork would go with the sorcerers and General Shao.

If Kuai Liang and Tomas were either captured or eliminated from the picture, Liu Kang would not even know that Bi-Han switched sides until the attack - or, if the alliance played smart, Lin Kuei could backstab Fire Lord’s forces from the inside. And in the scenario in which Bi-Han was not captured by his brothers, he still could have an option (backup plan) to play Shang Tsung’s failure to his own gain if he was cunning enough. For example, he could betray the sorcerer to earn Earthrealm’s victory in the important moment and then lie to Liu Kang’s face that was his true plan from the start - the mission has failed, Lin Kuei brothers were outnumbered; he and Scorpion were trapped inside the fortress with Smoke, who if lucky, managed to hide himself (not something Sub-Zero could even knew). With no way to warn the Fire Lord and not seeing a better solution at that moment, under the pretense he is ready to betray Earthrealm, he learned what Liu Kang’s enemy were doing. Then trusting in brother’s skills, on purpose lied to Kuai Liang to piss him off enough so he could get out and reunite with Smoke. And when Bi-Han faced his angry brothers he fought only to let them run away, so they could carry on the important news to Liu Kang, while scarring Scorpion’s face as proof he was on board with Shang Tsung, so no one could doubt him. Because duty comes above family and isn’t that what was expected from Grandmaster and Lin Kuei? Isn’t that what their father wanted? For them all to serve Fire Lord and Earthrealm at any cost?

And mind you, at this point in the story Sub-Zero had no idea that Liu Kang was in fact once Keeper of Time and had an access to Geras/Hourglass to rewind time and check what actually happened. For all Bi-Han knew then, the lie would be unprovable and, at worst, he would have to earn Fire Lord and his brothers’ trust again but then, it would be much more easy to play on their guilt, how easily they doubted when he was willing to go extra miles for the sacred duty they all talk and talk and talk about. At the same time, the experiences would teach Bi-Han he can’t trust his brothers and in future he needs to be more cunning about breaking out from Liu Kang’s control and probably relying more on Sektor & Cyrax.

(And even if Kuai Liang would be upset, he couldn’t complain, because he is the one that wanted to uphold tradition. Bi-Han could then easily come back to the lie he tried to save father’s life and all the cruel things he said back then were an unpleasant necessity and how could you, my dearest brother, doubt me so easily…?)

Of course, in the end Sub-Zero was captured by his brothers and the possibilities thwarted but my point is, just because Bi-Han joined Shang Tsung, it does not mean he had no longer any autonomy over the course of action or that he wouldn’t make a backup plans for various outcomes. Lin Kuei were trained from childhood to do their duty and as far as we could see, they play the role of black ops for Liu Kang - what most likely also includes espionage. And in the espionage art one must be ready to act at any given moment and plan ahead. Bi-Han said himself, he has no loyalty to Earthrealm nor to Outworld and I do not doubt he would play the game with his survival and Lin Kuei’s best interest in mind. Who he would need to betray in the process would depend on who was winning and who was the most beneficial ally.

I think we all can agree that Lin Kuei mission and Bi-Han’s betrayal was a rushed subplot and both the brothers and emotional impact of the story would benefit more if Sub-Zero wasn’t cut off from the events right away after fulfilling his main purpose - giving a ground for new Lin Kuei vs Shirai Ryu conflict that won’t have any importance until the next games will use it. It is not even a matter if Bi-Han acted logically or not, but more the feeling of incompetence of everyone involved. Nitara and Ermac didn’t raise the alarm the moment when intruders were spotted (and Nitara literally screeched / screamed when she attacked Smoke). Bi-Han didn’t behead Shang Tsung when he had an occasion; instead he idly waited for enemy soldiers to run up to Lin Kuei - and really, if he knew the mission was endangered, he should have used the precious seconds to eliminate the target. Even if he was killed, there would be one enemy less for Liu Kang to deal with. Kuai Liang alone beat all the main fighters, burning the stone soldiers like they were nothing while Smoke, well he had one moment of serious panic and after that was just there, pushed to the background. Bi-Han’s choice and development of his subplot could be taken in interesting, even twisted directions in the hands of capable writers. And by that I don’t mean the intelligence of writers but capability to care for Bi-Han’s plot beyond the need to break Lin Kuei from Liu Kang. Because him acting either on impulse or seizing an opportunity he awaited for years does not mean he needs to stick to Shang Tsung & General Shao to the bitter end. I, for one, would like to see how cunning Sub-Zero could be in such a situation but for that NRS would need to let him be in the story as a full-fledged character that develops alongside the events and not be just there to push events and other characters' storylines forward.

As for original Scorpion, I feel there is in general a great change in perception of his and Sub-Zero’s storylines, as Scorpion in the earliest source materials, including the oldest comics, usually played the role of antagonist, while Sub-Zero even as an assassin could be pretty heroic on his own. Now the roles seems to turn around, however I suspect the main reason why fans give Hanzo benefit of doubt and forgive him any foolish decisions but won’t give Bi-Han the same treatment comes down to this: Hanzo is acting on strong emotions, something we can see by visually aspect of the games and heard him personally speaking about them while Sub-Zero does not externalize his emotions, because such openness is not in his nature (the old comics are better in that aspect but how many people even remember them these days?). It is much easier for fans to forgive character’s “stupidity”, the all wrongly made choices when character will openly admit to be upset, angry, devastated or traumatized than to forgive the one that won't spill out their guts, won’t cry or feel sorry for themselves and will just adapt and go on with their life. People forgive acting on overwhelming emotions when those are all over the place because emotions are something easy to relate - and who of us did not lose control over them at least one? Hanzo is powerful male character in terms of firepower and skills alone but he is also deeply messed up, traumatized man whose life was fucked up and now he is trying hardly to piece it together and to rebuild his sense of humanity and honor. Bi-Han as Noob Saibot just… adapted and moved on with his life and the amount of people he would admit any feeling of regret or injustice done to him I can count on one hand and still have a finger of two free. Meanwhile everyone who cares to learn, knows Hanzo is grieving after his clan and family or is upset or angry and so on. Which is also why I think so many characters (and fans) think Bi-Han as a Noob Saibot is so vile and evil - because in contrast to other Wraiths and/or Revenants, he does not show any sign of trauma, be it leashing out in anger or outrightly speaking how deeply wounded he is, even if he died in no less brutal way than rest of fallen heroes - and isn't it ironic that Kuai Liang was accused about that too? Of not looking traumatized enough because he does not show openly his pain . And accused by Sonya of all possible people?

It’s easier to relate and understand characters wearing emotions on their sleeve because all the reasoning and effects of their actions are either easy to trace and connect or explicitly stated by characters themselves. Hanzo is such a character. He is sad and angry so he acts in a way a sad and angry man would. Bi-Han though? If people except Bi-Han - a characters specifically connected to ice - to spill out his guts how he feels, to cry how unfair his life was and how everyone is mean to him or to vomit the over-sweetened praises for anyone he likes or jump at any occasion to cuddle anyone at arm length to know he feels anything at all, then… Well, that is definitely not the right character for them. Bi-Han just doesn’t work like that and sure, his anger may flare here and there, but as I was pointing out in different metas and analyzes in the past, that man is not overly emotional to begin with, even when talking with people he likes and cares for. I won’t lie, sometimes to understand Sub-Zero’s reasoning one needs to use all imagination and do some mentally gymnastics as the character won’t tell us what is happening inside his head the way Hanzo would. But that can be fun on its own, to examine and analyze and build theories. However, let’s be real here, it is not for everyone and each for their own.

The What If timelines

I really wish MK1 expanded on the what if scenarios and timelines. We know of their existence, but we don't know them intimately like we've seen with Liu Kang's timeline, or even momentarily with Shang Tsung back in mk11.

I really wanna see more Good Shang Tsung, Quan Chi, Kano-Sonya and Janet Cage. Hell, even Ninja Meme Johnny. We never hear most of the other versions speak, we only see glimpses of them or just have them on screen for like a minute.

The fact that there's a version of Johnny that showed up in the final battle dressed as Ninja Mime means that he is literally a ninja mime, and I kinda wanna see a story behind that. Maybe being talkative annoyed everyone so much that it made him feel bad and study the art of silent kung fu or something.

I want to see some Janet Cage in a story mode, I get a vibe from her that she feels more inclined to prove herself. Is she the only genderbent version in her universe or is everyone genderbent? Is she trans? She's an action star, but she didn't want to be the sexualised female heroin or sidekick, so acts cocky and obnoxious to prove that she's more than a sex symbol, her ego as some kind of defence mechanism against the sexism in Hollyweird. But that kind of takes away the point of Janet's character (because she's Johnny).

I would really like to see Shang Tsung interact with good Shang Tsung, see how many versions of himself he can hate. Is good Shang Tsung's Liu Kang evil too?

Why does Shang Tsung have clones of Kitana if he has an evil Kitana working for him? Why would evil titan versions of the heroes help Shang Tsung? Wouldn't it be a hassle to try over throweach other because of greed and stuff?

Why are evil versions to begin with? What is their backstory? Cross-over characters... I have so many questions (genderbent ninjas, character with another's aesthetic for example: Lizard Queen).

We have evil versions of the characters, but no evil Johnny (except John Khaner). Missed opportunity to have an evil Johnny, could've made it a Jill Roberts situation where there's a timeline of evil Johnny that only cares about the fame because of some deep rooted issue. In fact, I've already mentioned John Kahner, I want to know how he became Kahn.

Back to the Mileena clones of Titan Shang Tsung, re-watching the fight I saw that they were all colour coded (red, blue, yellow, pink), so they have a rank or Shang Tsung cares about differenciating them so that they're not so much mindless killers that just do his bidding. Do they have other names? Do they all secretly want Shang Tsung's approval? Do they conspire against one another? Is he their father figure now that Shao Kahn isn't in the picture? Do they have a sister bond with each other? Is Kitana their mean older sister?

Now that our timeline has Mileena and Kitana as actual sisters, is there a timeline where Mileena and Skarlet are sisters? A timeline where Shao Kahn is a good, loving father and husband? I have so many questions.

Marvel's WHAT IF...? Series is one the best Projects to have happened with Disney.

Season 1 had a Good Introduction for those who were unfamiliar with the Comic Issues where these characters are in different situations. Although, the episodes were SLIGHTLY different scenarios than ae had hoped. Still great nonetheless for what it did! It's as if they were testing the waters with it!

Now, with Season 2, it's a MAJOR improvement with its Smoother Animation, it's Artstyle, and Backgrounds! The Environments where these Characters were in were greatly improved. (possibly taking inspiration from Spider-Verse and Arcane!)

It was all the more enjoyable for fans alike for their favorite characters to return even more so!

I think what's it's also admirable is that they were able to have MOST of The Original Actors who played their Characters from the Movies! It adds even another layer of UNTOUCHED DEVELOPMENT towards themselves to their Universe and to who were around them! ❤️

For me personally, i've enjoyed them all!

Season 3 is looking good so far!

I just hope we see more Characters such as...

Shang Chi

Kate Bishop / Hawkeye

Marc Spector / Moon Knight

Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel

Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk

Daredevil / Matt Merdock

Etc!

An AU where everything is my scenario and it's mostly from the 3D Era and midd era are changed by me :)

Raiden and Fujin still hold the position of gods.

Liu Kang is still the Champion of Earthrealm. and Kung Lao, one of the defenders of Earthrealm and Liu Kang's childhood best friend.

The Mortal Kombat tournament's goal is the same as its goal in the previous timelines, which is a decision whether Outworld conquer the other realms or not.

King Jerrod died at the hands of one of Shinnok's demons at this AU and Sindel had nothing to do with it.

Quan Chi works under Shinnok's command.

Shang Tsung was a resident of Earthrealm, like previous eras, but after he learned sorcery and found the Well of Souls on that island, he made his life longer.

Quan Chi and Shang Tsung are the deadly alliance who suddenly become parents to a baby dragon.

Bo Rai Cho is Madam Bo's son in this AU. Originally, they were from Outworld, but thanks to Bo Rai ho's friendship with Raiden and Fujin, they moved to Earthrealm.

Shao Kahn, instead of being an evil, tyrannical, and discontented Khan, is like a governor, while Sindel is the queen. He's not entirely evil, more like a controlling and crule, yet caring person of Outworld.

Yes, Shao Kahn likes Sindel, but he prefers to keep his distance and take things professionally.

Like previous eras, Reiko is an Outworld General. He is almost the same age as Shao Kahn, if not a few years younger. Like MK 4, he has white hair on the sides.

Li Mei, like previous eras, is like a teenager who has entered puberty. She works under Shao Kahn as a scout and fighter, wanting to protect Sun Do, the village where she grew up.

The way Liu Kang and Kitana meet is the same as in Mk 9, but with a few more lengthy dialogues.

Mileena was created from Kitana's flesh and blood when she was an infant, so they are like twins and they grew up together, and therefore Kitana considers Mileena her sister.

Mileena, Tanya and Rain are besties.

Amara was a close friend of Jerrod and Sindel, and after the love affair between Amara and Argus, and how the god took the infant, and Amara's death from grief, the two lost their faith in Argus.

Amara died because of her grief over the loss of her son, and he was dear to her. Jerrod tried to find Rain for years until he finally found him, but it was too late, as the young boy had lost his mother’s love.

Rain grew up alongside Kitana and Mileena as a brother, Although he did not view them as his family, they were his safe haven.

Jade and her parents are there, and since we have not obtained an official name for them, as far as I know, I will give them names that I think are appropriate. The names of the gemstones are genderless, so he's Bryel, which is a pale green gemstone.

For Jade's mother, her name would be "Donia," which means world or life. “Donia” is an oriental feminine name given to girls, whether in Persian or Arab countries.

Jade and Kitana were childhood playmates, and now Jade is Kitana's best friend, her personal bodyguard, and the comfort of her sadness and loneliness.

A little Smokey Jade (Jade x Smoke) because they seemed more convincing to me than Kotal and Jade.

The Lin Kuai are there. The Grandmaster of Lin Kuai is currently the father of Bi-Han and Kuai Liang, and since we don't have a name for him, we'll call him "Artik" as a bit of a mockery of Arctika, but we like the place, not the person.

Do you remember Oniro? Grandmaster of Lin Kuai in Mythologys? Sektor's father? Yes, the man is there, but as the right hand of Artik and his brother.

Yep, Sektor and the Ice Brothers are cousins. I don't know if the information is correct because I searched for the names of both Sektor and Cyrax, and on one of the websites they said that Sektor's name is Li Hog-jing and Cyrax's name is Felix Sam Kaweeson.

Bi-Han is Sub-Zero, Kuai Liang is Tundra, Tomas Vrbada is Smoke.

HeadCanon said their family name is "Kuai". Example: Kuai Liang, Kuai Lisa, and Kuai Bi-Han, but Bi-Han does not use the last name.

Tomas is not adopted and is a friend of Kuai Liang, and Bi-Han treats him friendly and like a brother.

To return to the thing that most Mortal Kombat fans had previously agreed on, which is that the father of Bi-Han and Kuai Liang is a despicable and cruel man. Let us not forget that he forcibly took his two sons from their mother.

The age difference between Bi-Han and Kuai Liang is about 9-10 years because for some reason I feel that Kuai Liang could have been held in one hand when he first arrived at the Lin Kuai.

Bi-Han and Artik don't get along, they never did and they never will. Bi-Han opposes Artik while Kuai Liang complies.

Tomas is on the other side, in the middle. Like any Lin Kuei member, he listens to the orders of his grandmaster, even though he has doubts, like Bi-Han.

Is Tomas possessed by Enenra? Unfortunately, yes. But the situation is more like Eddie and Venom. (not romanticly)

Johnny Cage is a famous Hollywood actor who has TV series.

Sonya Blade and Jax Briggs are Special Forces.

Kenshi Takahashi is European-Asian, like previous eras, and I think most fans did not know that information.

Johnny, Sonya, and Kenshi are the trio who were forced to work together to achieve their goals, and now they have become attached to each other.

Kenshi and Su Chen are not in a relationship yet, but they are communicating.

Johnny is a casual disaster bisexual and an icon .

The Black Dragon is present and in the same condition.

Even though Kabal is with Black Dragon, he and Stryker are friends.

Kira and Kobra are a reckless duo who act like middle school students and Kabal is their guardian, and the Black Dragon trusts Kabal to control them.

Erron Black began thinking about all his life decisions since joining this circus called the Black Dragon Clan.

Kano? still the same.

Nitara? She is the only one remaining of her kind, because, as was the case, her people drank blood and nourished themselves until there was nothing left.

Ashrah? Her goal is to free her sisters from Quan Chi's control and achieve salvation and purify herself and every dark soul.

Syzoth's people exist and they ostracize him because of his ability to take on human form and his personality is almost like his character from MKX, with harsh words but good intentions.

Sareena was born with a natural emotion and was able to free herself from Quan Chi's control on her own with the help of Ashrah and Bi-Han.

Of course, my OC's exist, but with a few changes.

Havik this time is not Dairou but the original Havik, Cleric of chaos from the the Chaosrealm.

Of course Hotaru is there and needs a vacation.
