It's marauders non-men month and today is Sybill Trelawney day so...
Half-blood
They/she, bisexual
Half Romani from their mother's side
Ravenclaw
One year younger than the marauders
Shared a dorm with Pandora
Her and Panda were besties
Was friends with Xenophilius Lovegood and Septima Vector
Peter and them were dating in her 5th, 6th and 7th year (they broke up after they had a vision about Pete being a traitor. She was trying to warn everyone but no one would listen to them, bc they known as 'the crazy one')
Was autistic with ADHD
Was REALLY clumsy and would trip over their own feet and bump into things all the time.
Would carry around plasters and even bandaids
Loved the type of clothes that I drew her in
Would have a shared wardrobe with Xeno and Panda
5'3 tall (the shortest in her friend group)
Was vegetarian
Loved pasta and green tea
Really looked up to her great grandmother - Cassandra, a great and famous seer
Was bullied badly in first 2 years (in 3rd year Septima found out about it and quickly made the bullies regret that they were even born)
Besides divination their fav subjects were numerology and herbology
Would come up with the weirdest conspiracy theories ever in like middle of a class
Due to her clumsiness their clothes would get damaged. Xeno would have to fix them regularly (they would actually sew and not use a spell)
Could not cook for shit. Literally, she can burn WATER. She would just put things in the oven and then just... forget. They would not even smell that something is burning and if it wasn't for Xeno, she would start an actual fire at Hogwarts. They were forbidden from the kitchen by first her mom when they were 7 and we're learning how to cook and then in second year by Pandora, when she wanted to make her a birthday cake (let's say the dorm didn't look very well after that)
Very forgetful and lost things easily. Would put her glasses on a table, walk to another room and be like: 'Hmmm... Where are my glasses???'
The definition of a cat lady (all of them were black stray cats obvi)
Would like girl in red, Hozier and Beach Bunny
Wouldn't be a fan of quidditch but would support Septima during matches (her, Panda and Xeno would wear these hats with a raven like Luna and ABSOLUTELY SLAY in them)
A total Pandalily shipper
Really messy hair
Had a little crush on Septima in 4th year and they even kissed once in spin the bottle, but Septima would be in love with Aurora Sinistra
I think that's it + my fanart

How I imagine Septima Vector since y’all sleep on her
First off, lemme make one thing clear. SHES NATIVE AMERICAN. the native rep in this fandom is so lacking. My fancast is Amber Midthunder but she’s not really how I imagine Septima.
Septima was tall, skiny and gangly. She had bronze coloured skin with a deep tan. Dark eyes. Very angular features. Also long hair that she never cut (for cultural reasons) she would often wear in a braid.
Her parents were older when they had her. Her mother had six miscarriages before Septima. Her mother was also the seventh daughter. And she was born 7/7. So that’s where Septima comes from. (Septima means seven)
Big family in the states but her father was offered a job in the uk so they moved there. Her parents appreciated academics (they both fought in ww2 and were very anti violence).
She was sorted into ravenclaw and was four years older than the marauders. She was very anti social and didn’t have any friends. She didn’t like anyone at hogwarts.
In the summers she would visit her family and was a totally different person. She was really good with kids and would often tutor kids in her neighbourhood.
Love life: I think she had a summer romance with Aurora Sinistra (she is not in snapes gang!!) but was overall an August in the situation. Also I love the idea of her and Narcissa. Like both second choices that find solace in each other. Also I do hc that when Septima and Aurora both became teachers that they had second chance romance.
Septimaurora/astrolmancy/sevendawn for Septima x aurora
Sepcissa for Septima x Narcissa
She would always wear muted colours. And golden jewelry, often carved by her family. Rbf + sarcastic. Her patronus was an eagle. Oak wand 9 inches with a phoenix feather.
CHARITY WAS HER YOUNGER COUSIN. Idc I will not budge on this. Native cherry supremacy!!
Also she is so Anti Hero coded!!

HP Bodice Ripper: Week 1
Tumblr media
Do you feel a little faint? We certainly feel a little faint with how amazing this week has been.
This week brought you fake dating and prophesies, knights and pirates and tennis rivals, soft romance and steamy library smut. Our incredible creators delivered pining, courting and sexual tension to make you go weak in the knees.
We hope you are as delighted with the wonderful creations as we are. Thank you for all the kudos and comments and screaming in the tags.
Here are all works from week one in reverse posting order: 6 stories, 2 art works and 1 recording.
[fic🖋] Romp and Circumstance by @wolfpants / wolfpants
(Harry/Draco, Explicit, 35k)
Since the war, Harry Potter has gone from Saviour to Scoundrel—not that he’s complaining. With a schedule full of gorgeous men, alcohol, and late nights, why would he want to change? Enter Draco Malfoy: beautiful, sharp, and completely untouchable. When Draco comes to Harry with a proposition to help him attract an engagement, Harry’s up for it—after all, how hard can it be not falling for his former nemesis? Very hard, apparently.
thestarryknight says about this: "every moment between Draco and Harry was believable, brilliantly articulated, and full of desire"
oknowkiss says about this: “i feel like Jane Austen would be so proud of you”
[art🎨] Lay Your Armour Down (The Seduction of a Pirate) by @getawayfox / getawayfox
(Pansy/Ginny, General Audiences, digital art)
Pansy will be the first to tell you that being an heiress is infinitely boring. She lives for thrill and intrigue, and right now her days lack both. So, when there’s whispers in town of a nearby pirate ship threatening their shores, Pansy’s interest piques. She bribes the mansion’s guards to let her slip out unnoticed, tricks the ship’s crew into thinking she was invited—and now she’s here, ready for adventure. She hoped to find new experiences, but did not expect a captain who would take her breath away.
skeptique says about this: “There's so much lovely texture to your art. I love both of their outfits and the beautiful sky and ocean spray”
sitp-recs says about this: "immaculate black sails vibes"
[fic🖋] coffee & communication: a (slow) romance by @softlystarstruck / softlystarstruck
(Harry/Draco, Explicit, 10k)
Nearly a decade after the war, Draco has made a life for himself in Muggle London, writing romance novels and hanging out with his cat. But when he spills iced coffee all over a gorgeous man who turns out to be Harry Potter, has he tumbled into the start of his own romance without realizing it? And how difficult can it be to talk about desire, anyways? He writes smut for a living. Surely it can't be that difficult.
Basicallyahedgehog says about this: "I absolutely loved the depiction of both demisexuality and demiromance. The world needs more aroace specturm representation, and this was perfect."
lq_traintracks says about this: "Soft and tender but with heaps of UST that hit just right. It’s such a gorgeous exploration of being demi, being aro, of how absolutely HOT loving patience can be"
[fic🖋] dalliances past curfew by @fantasyborn / fantasyborn
(Irma Pince/Septima Vector, Explicit, 1,5k)
Irma is always the buttoned up, strict, rule follower. Only Septima gets to cut through those barriers.
lq_traintracks says about this: "Oh this was so steamy! I loved the under-the-desk bit, so naughty! And then over-the-desk, unf! I like Septima's style."
yletylyf says about this: “I love the vibe of their established relationship, which is so sweet, and this smutty give-and-take.”
[podfic🎵] amid this warm and steady sweetness by @roseszain / roseszain
(Harry/Draco, Explicit, 2h, written by warmfoothills)
Harry is not living in a period drama, no matter what his friends or his new house or Malfoy’s sudden affinity for horse-riding might suggest, and if one more person uses the word courting, he’s going to start hexing people.
skeptique says about this: Really loved how this podfic brought this story to life. Just a wonderful pace and clear voice. Perfect narration style for this and great choice for this fest.
Chaosandcoo says about this: “Like, just one big, dreamy sigh.”
[fic🖋] The (Third) Worst Year by @the-francakes / thefrancakes
(Harry/Draco, Explicit, 19k)
Draco Malfoy has one year to fall in True Love with Harry Potter or be turned into a Dragon. And he knows that is never gunna happen. This is going to be the worst year of his life. Well, minus that whole having to kill Dumbledore or be killed by Voldemort thing. Second worst year. Oh, but there was his whole 7th year while Voldemort was using his house as a home base for Death Eaters and making him torture his fellow students. That one was pretty bad too. Fine, this is the third worst year of his life.
blueheart_V says about this: This is hilarious! The kitten calendar is a riot - I love Draco's increasing irritation with it. Pansy, Zabini & Theo were so perfectly characterised; in fact, all of your character writing was spot on. It was a joy to read.
pleasecallmeX says about this: “I am so so in love with this story.”
[fic🖋] The Greatest Game by @sleepstxtic / sleepstxtic
(Harry/Draco, Explicit, 45k)
So what then makes The Greatest Game? The Greatest Game is something more. The drama, the tension, the narrative that the other games lack. There is a story here. Two rivals with a history spanning years; the oldest, most illustrious prize to be won. Prime pickings for a plotline. But wait, there’s more. Two lovers with a secret spanning seasons, a secret that is about to be discovered. What I am trying to say is, The Greatest Game is greatest because it has the greatest story.
WhatsMyLine says about this: "I was on the edge of my seat, adrenaline pumping- I felt like I was actually watching tennis, and great fucking matches at that! Bravo!!"
HereForFreeCringes says about this: “What the hell this was ssoooooooooo good oh my god i am a starving dying worthless frog for a spoonful of modern drarry and you give me a 10 course meal????!!!”
[art🎨] Red Roses and Free Spirits by @upthehillart / upthehillart
(Ginny/Luna, General Audiences, digital art)
She's seen the Lady there before, an airy blur of elegant fabric and blond hair. With roses in hand, maybe she'll see her again.
sugareey says about this: AHHHHHH! This is GORGEOUS! The blurred background and shrubbery (as if everything is moving), the texture on the canvas, the patterns on Luna's outfit, and the way Luna and Ginny are just leaning into each other is PERFECT."
sleepstxtic says about this: “Luna’s dress is absolutely gorgeous and Ginny’s armour is IMPECCABLE WITH THE CHAINMAIL AND THE SWORD AND THE HAIRCUT”
[fic🖋] Nine dates and a wedding by @deliciousblizzardshark / deliciousblizzardshark
(Harry/Draco, Explicit, 11k)
“You need to get married,” Potter says. “I need someone to help me navigate all of this. It’s an insane idea…” He peeks out from behind his glasses. "...or is it?" "It is," Draco says.
Skeptique says about this: "This has such a romantic pattern of circumstances and hesitation and pining.”
lq_traintracks says about this: “It was paced beautifully, with that lovely build of tension between them and budding love from that initial attraction.”

The Blazing Sun - NeheMikkele - M, 8 chapters - Draco loses a bet with Blaise while they complete their 8th Year at Hogwarts. The task is simple: Make friends with Hermione Granger. The witch who he has tormented and hunted over the years. It's not a simple task.

Bathsheda Babbling (1950 - )
Septima Vector (1953 - )
Aurora Sinistra (1955 - )
I imagine that with the exception of the heads of house, the other teachers live in Hogsmeade Village so they can be with their families.
Bathsheda is American, married an Irish wizard and moved to England.
Septima and Rosberta maintain a long-lasting relationship.
After the Battle of Hogwarts, Aurora abandoned teaching and began traveling the world to dedicate herself to research.
** The number of Teachers is disproportionate to the number of students that J.K.R reported that there are at Hogwarts (around a thousand) this is something that has always bothered me, there should be more teachers, divided by years and also other subjects, there is no philosophy/ sociology/culture of witches? (No wonder every few decades they suffer from some kind of dark wizard.)

So I recently participated in my first SMAR. It was a challenge but I’m pleased with how it ended up.
Title: Me Finding You
Pairing: Aurora Sinistra & Septima Vector
Rating: M
Summary: Romantic love is fickle, weak at times, and rarely the most enduring. The love of a best friend is patient, reliable, and waiting. It is a gift not to be squandered or taken for granted. Hogwarts Professor Aurora Sinistra knew this. So did Septima Vector.

Teachers
As I said before, we don’t know much about the other Hogwarts teachers (except from Minerva, Severus, Flitwick, Sprout, Hooch, Binns and the DADA teachers). So, I had to imagine everything about Sinistra, Babbling, Burbage and Vector, especially their appearance because they aren’t discribe at all in the books (we saw Burbage a few minutes before her death).
So, here they are. /o/
Sinistra is, for me, the witch in red we saw in the 4th movie. Black straight hair with a square haircut.
Burbage, who arrived in the crew a year before Harry’s first year, has a soft spot for Severus, but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t punch some lines in his face when he pushes it too far.
Babbling is a metis, but a Pure Blood, witch, peaceful and friendly.
Vector is a tall woman with a long pale face and really light blond straight hair (almost white actually).
For the others, you already know them (I feel sorry for Flitwick, he looks like nothing. I must draw him better the next time). :D
Up and down left scenes: third book. Up right and middle left scenes: first book. Middle right scene: fourth book (in progress). Down right scene: second book.
More to come. :)

No señor.
- Severus, ¿a dónde  vas?

ABOUT:
Character name: Septima Vector Age & Birthday: 38 & May 6th Gender & Pronouns: Cis-female & She/Her Occupation: Arithmancer in training Blood status: Halfblood Previous house: Slytherin Affiliation: Neutral Face claim: Roberta Colindrez
BIOGRAPHY:
TW death, hoarding
septima vector is the 7th child to kelia and ianto vector. though septima was the seventh child there were ten vector children. Septima grew up in a happy family. Really she did, there was nothing to complain about for her. Though her parents taught her to do well in school much as they did with all their other children and it turns out, she’s actually quite good with numbers. She has always been good with numbers if she was going, to be honest. Out of the ten vector children she was gifted with a talent: a photographic memory. While one of her other siblings was always constantly getting ill, she was always somehow on the pedestal at the family dinners. Her parents were always so proud of her for being the one to help her siblings with their homework and she was the one that would always help with cooking and baking around the house because no one could measure out the portions just as well as septima did. Septima really did love the vector manor located in rotterdam netherlands. While although septima was originally born in britain: her dad worked for the ministry of magic in the department of the International Magical Trading Standards Body and they relocated him to the netherlands for the time being. That was where they ended up growing their large family and it was honestly really nice to be away from the rest of their family in britain.
It wasn’t until more recently that ianto had a heart attack and passed away in his sleep. That was when everything in the vector household started to fall apart. Just in the span of a few months, her mother grew to be a hoarder, septima has been living on her own since graduating from college and it already seems as if she has already taken in three of her younger siblings while her other ones were either already in school or doing their own thing. Septima doesn’t like seeing her family fall apart or the state that her mother is in. she still does send her home money every once in a while but she knows the moment she goes home she’s just going to have to end up carrying the weight of everyone else in her family.

Still Warm, Still Warm by @ghaniblue / acari (Harry/Draco, General Audiences, 30min, written by tsauergrass)
The oranges ripened and grew heavy; the branches dipped under their weight. They picked some for breakfast every morning: Harry twisting the fruit off with a snap, Draco carefully tugging each one off. Harry peeled an orange and handed a wedge to Draco. Their fingers grazed, and Draco took it. The tender flesh; if he pressed just a little harder with his fingers, it would burst into a juicy mess. Harry is up to something. Why else would he keep giving Draco presents?
amid this warm and steady sweetness by @roseszain / roseszain (Harry/Draco, Explicit, 2h, written by warmfoothills)
Harry is not living in a period drama, no matter what his friends or his new house or Malfoy’s sudden affinity for horse-riding might suggest, and if one more person uses the word courting, he’s going to start hexing people.

A second chance at first love.
the pirate and his gentleman by @babooshkart / babooshk_art (Harry/Draco, General Audiences, Digital Art)
Life as the most feared pirate on the high seas has lost some of its luster for Harry Potter. He's done it all: found buried treasure, escaped the English navy, cut off toes. He's even added a couple of noses to Pansy's Nose Jar. But nonetheless Harry wants something more. He just wasn't expecting to find it in the form of Draco Malfoy, Gentleman Pirate.

Good Boy by @lqtraintracks / lq_traintracks (Harry/Draco, Explicit, 15k)
This is a love story between a trans lad and his werewolf boyfriend. It’s about loving someone in their very furry entirety. It’s about being your true self and loving that self. It’s about getting absolutely railed.
Yours Truly by @skeptiquewrites / skeptique (Harry/Draco, Mature, 15k)
Every single one of Harry’s exes has gone on to marry the next person they date, and with the upcoming nuptials of numbers six and seven to each other, Harry’s feeling exhausted by it all. It doesn’t really matter if he lets people assume Draco Malfoy is his boyfriend for a moment of peace. In any case, Draco’s been away for five years and there’s no way he would find out, right?
Heaven is a Pirate Ship by @vitaminpops / vitaminpops (Bellatrix/Hermione, Explicit, 34k)
Hermione's being shipped off into an unhappy marriage when the most incompetent pirate crew captures her. Featuring: one trigger-happy but sexy pirate, a dysfunctional father-son relationship, a general absence of morals, and the many uses of knives.

After ten years on parole in the Muggle world, newly widowed Narcissa Black is finally allowed to do magic again — as long as she can complete all the spells on the Ministry course list. Her Ministry of Magic representative? Hermione Granger.
Your Majesty by @cluelesspigeons / Clueless_Pigeons (Harry/Draco, Explicit, 17k)
Draco's bored. Ever since he's become King, he hasn't done anything apart from being stuck in assemblies and meetings. He yearns for a life with adventure and excitement. So, when a group of pirates start raiding the villages of his Kingdom, Draco sees the perfect opportunity to escape his duties as a King for a little while. After all, there isn't much that could go wrong. Right?
The Sun in Summer (Presto Pizzicato) by @cannibalschism / Cannibalschism (Harry/Draco, Explicit, 90k)
Harry Potter is an orphan. Everyone knows this, him most of all. Taken in by the agoraphobic and ancient Dowager Viscountess Cassiopeia Black, Harry's musical aptitude was evident even from a young age. He has trained all his life to perform in front of a noble audience and step upon the shoulders of giants. To be known for his accomplishment and skill. To be great. And he will do anything to achieve that goal. Draco Malfoy is an orphan. He hasn't been as such for very long, however. Known as the Instrumenteur, Draco runs a modest shoppe in lower Diagon Alley where he creates and repairs musical instruments. The Viscountess Cassiopeia Black stole everything from him the night of his parents' fatal accident. When Harry Potter, the orphan that wretched woman took in even as she cast out her own blood, proposes the most ludicrous of schemes that might just get Draco his stolen title and life back, who is he to decline? In a time of galas, secrets, corsets, and symphonies, can love prevail over all else?
A Studious Romp by @articcat621 / articcat621 (Pansy/Hermione, Explicit, 1k)
Hermione and Pansy get assigned to work together on their next Chemistry project.
Romp and Circumstance by @wolfpants / wolfpants (Harry/Draco, Explicit, 35k)
Since the war, Harry Potter has gone from Saviour to Scoundrel—not that he’s complaining. With a schedule full of gorgeous men, alcohol, and late nights, why would he want to change? Enter Draco Malfoy: beautiful, sharp, and completely untouchable. When Draco comes to Harry with a proposition to help him attract an engagement, Harry’s up for it—after all, how hard can it be not falling for his former nemesis? Very hard, apparently.
coffee & communication: a (slow) romance by @softlystarstruck / softlystarstruck (Harry/Draco, Explicit, 10k)
Surely it can't be that difficult.
dalliances past curfew by @fantasyborn / fantasyborn (Irma Pince/Septima Vector, Explicit, 1,5k)
Irma is always the buttoned up, strict, rule follower. Only Septima gets to cut through those barriers.
The (Third) Worst Year by @the-francakes / thefrancakes (Harry/Draco, Explicit, 19k)
The Greatest Game by @sleepstxtic / sleepstxtic (Harry/Draco, Explicit, 45k)
So what then makes The Greatest Game? The Greatest Game is something more. The drama, the tension, the narrative that the other games lack. There is a story here. Two rivals with a history spanning years; the oldest, most illustrious prize to be won. Prime pickings for a plotline. But wait, there’s more. Two lovers with a secret spanning seasons, a secret that is about to be discovered. What I am trying to say is, The Greatest Game is greatest because it has the greatest story.
Nine dates and a wedding by @deliciousblizzardshark / deliciousblizzardshark (Harry/Draco, Explicit, 11k)
“You need to get married,” Potter says. “I need someone to help me navigate all of this. It’s an insane idea…” He peeks out from behind his glasses. "...or is it?" "It is," Draco says.

honestly is there a single competent teacher at Hogwarts? Any teacher I can think of with more than 10 lines of dialogue is a pedagogical disaster. Very shippable disasters though, for which I am grateful because your page has made me giggle all week.
maybe Sprout.
honestly, anon? no.
that school is a basket case and the older i get the more my sympathy for cornelius fudge increases. imagine getting the call where dumbledore says "heyyyyy... so, i hired what i thought was an ex-auror who was retired from the service because of serious ptsd, gave him no teacher training, let him perform illegal curses on children for fun, and then it turns out he was an escaped convict trying to resurrect the dark lord all along. lmao."
i'd have devoted myself to trying to discredit him too.
and so, for fun and profit, i think it's only fair for us to establish an official competency ranking of the teaching staff at hogwarts during the period 1991-1998... points on for having a basic grasp of the material, points off for anyone who nearly dies in your class.
1. wilhelmina grubbly-plank, care of magical creatures
genuinely, professor grubbly-plank is the only person we meet in all seven books who seems to be an uncomplicatedly good teacher. she's got a series of well-defined lesson plans which feature a mixture of guided and independent study and which work in a tangible way towards exams, she has clear authority in the classroom but is never unreasonable or cruel, she's demonstrably able to lead a practical class which involves wild animals which might behave dangerously or unpredictably without there ever being any concerns about student safety, she takes an active pastoral role [such as when she helps heal hedwig's injured wing, reassuring harry enormously], she's collegial [she shares her lessons plans with hagrid in goblet of fire, and she refuses to criticise his teaching to umbridge], and she's admired by all of her pupils except harry [who is nonetheless begrudgingly forced to admit that she's incredibly good at her job].
plus, her aesthetic is iconic.
=2. filius flitwick, charms; pomona sprout, herbology
in joint second place, we have these two.
both sprout and flitwick spend canon seeming to be pretty good at their jobs - they have interesting lesson plans which seem to balance theoretical and practical work well and which prepare their pupils properly for exams, their pupils like them and enjoy their lessons, they're both excellent at the pastoral side of their jobs [sprout's gentle encouragement of neville is really lovely], and they're adored by their colleagues.
they lose marks for lax classroom discipline. harry, ron, and hermione are constantly yapping away in both charms and herbology - with harry and ron frequently failing to understand what they're supposed to be learning because they were too busy have a chat.
=4. remus lupin, defence against the dark arts; septima vector, arithmancy
two teachers here who earn their placement on the list by having one pupil who considers them life-alteringly inspiring.
for lupin, this is dean thomas - whose constant state of readiness to throw hands to defend his honour is one of his greatest character traits. for vector, it's hermione.
obviously, they're both well-qualified, well-prepared, engaging, and [at least in lupin's case, but i can't see why it wouldn't also be the case for vector] well-regarded by their colleagues.
they don't rank higher because lupin loses marks for endangering his students by not disclosing his knowledge that the presumed-to-be-a-death-eater sirius has a means of entering hogwarts without detection [i understand why he does this from a characterisation point of view, but it's inexcusable from a safeguarding one] and because vector teaches an elective subject which is implied to only attract bright, engaged pupils - and therefore has an easier time in the classroom than someone trying to get a student like crabbe through their exams.
5. minerva mcgonagall, transfiguration
in comes minnie mac at number five.
unsurprisingly, her solid curriculum, excellent classroom discipline, high-regard among her colleagues and pupils, support of student extracurricular activities, and investment in helping her pupils pursue the careers they want all give her points.
she loses marks, however, for the fact that she is so casually disdainful of pupils who aren't instinctively good at her subject - which suggests that she doesn't know how to adapt her material so it can be understood by every student she teaches. like dumbledore, she seems to have an identifiable favouritism for brilliant students - who she seems to permit to get away with much more than students she considers average or dull - which probably doesn't endear her to anyone who doesn't get that treatment.
on her pastoral approach, though, i don't think that it matters too much that she's not particularly nurturing - even though she's a head of house. she seems to be good at responding to genuine distress and managing genuine crises with empathy, and the "pull yourself together" vibes she takes in response to more trivial dramas is because she's a presbyterian scotswoman.
6. severus snape, potions & defence against the dark arts
the one on this list that i imagine will be controversial...
because snape is a dick in the classroom - not denying that - but he's also, in terms of his pupils' exam performance, clearly the most successful teacher in the entire school. he can fill his newt-level classes despite only admitting those with outstanding grades, and he expects every pupil he teaches to pass owl-level potions and seems not to be disappointed. hermione reveals that he does teach the theory of potions and the discipline's wider application - harry and ron just don't listen - and that she thinks his lessons are interesting.
snape loses marks - obviously - for his general vibe, although i think he should be allowed some leeway for his dickhead behaviour since potions is clearly a subject in which not paying attention and not being able to follow instructions properly is dangerous [hence why i've been a trevor hater since day one].
i suppose he should also be allowed some leeway because it's a genre requirement for a school story to have a theatrically evil teacher. but he's not getting it - since he clearly enjoys the role so much.
7. horace slughorn, potions
marks on for encouraging independent thinking and for clearly being able to hold a classroom's attention. marks off for not learning the names of pupils he's indifferent to, getting his favourite pupils drunk, and for having no follow-up questions to "hello, sir. i'd like to commit some murders."
8. charity burbage, muggle studies
entirely because i think it's genuinely admirable - and, indeed, far more admirable than the fact that the order of the phoenix all happily keep working for the state following voldemort's takeover - that she publishes an article in the daily prophet, to which her real name is attached, explicitly refuting blood-supremacist rhetoric when she must know that a blood-supremacist government is about to come into power.
marks off because the fact that even wizards who've taken her class appear to know fuck all about muggle society means that she can't be particularly good at her job.
9. firenze, divination
marks on because his pupils love him, marks off because that's a tremendously low bar to clear given... trelawney.
him telling his classes that divination is a bullshit, made-up subject is iconic, though.
10. "alastor moody", defence against the dark arts
i think it's genuinely impressive that he manages to go from being imprisoned under the imperius curse for a decade straight into planning a full year's lesson plans [which his pupils love] and doesn't have a breakdown.
marks off because of literally everything else.
=11. all the miscellaneous teachers: aurora sinistra, astronomy; silvanus kettleburn, care of magical creatures; bathsheba babbling, ancient runes
they seem fine.
14. rolanda hooch, flying
full respect to her for managing to wangle a full-time salary out of an annual workload made up of teaching one lesson [badly] and refereeing six quidditch matches.
15. quirinus quirrell, defence against the dark arts
all the proof those of us who hate professor riddle stories need that voldemort would have been a dogshit teacher, if he can't even get his meat-puppet to inspire a room full of eager eleven-year-olds in a subject which is about the coolest ways possible to kill people.
=16. cuthbert binns, history of magic; sybill trelawney, divination
they're terrible, obviously, but the fact that they remain in their jobs despite being so clearly incompetent is entirely dumbledore's fault. are you not giving the staff performance reviews, albus? come on now.
18. dolores umbridge, defence against the dark arts
umbridge deserves to be in prison, but she did at least bother to plan out a curriculum.
=19. gilderoy lockhart, defence against the dark arts; rubeus hagrid, care of magical creatures
both victims of dumbledore's "lol this will be so funny" era of hiring practices. both deservedly regarded as completely fucking incompetent by all but one defiant brownnoser. both possessing jazzy taste in textbooks.
21. amycus carrow, defence against the dark arts
he beats his sister simply because his pupils do appear to know how to perform the unforgivable curses correctly.
22. alecto carrow, muggle studies
literally nothing positive can be said.

marauders' favourite hogwarts teacher/staff:
james- minerva mcgonagall (his godmother, teacher of his favourite subject, understands his obsession with quidditch a lot)
mary- filius flitwick (in charge of the choir which she was part of for a while, very understanding, had similar views to mary about the war)
remus- poppy pomfrey (understood lycanthropy more than anyone else he had met, she very kind to him and reminded him of his mum a lot)
lily- pomona sprout (teacher of one of her favourite subjects, gave her a key to the greenhouses for her own projects, very friendly which lily was drawn towards, especially in first year)
sirius- minerva mcgonagall (never told his parents when he was misbehaving, let him talk to her for hours no matter the time of day, made him feel safe)
dorcas- rolanda hooch (the quidditch coach, gave dorcas her old broom when dorcas couldn't afford one to join the team in second year)
peter- septima vector (teacher of his favourite subject, and in charge of the chess club, he's dyslexic and she helped him with reading/spelling, etc. which other teachers didn't really do)
emmeline- albus dumbledore (told her she was destined for something great, called her into his office many times just to chat, would smile or wink at specifically her from across the great hall)
marlene- minerva mcgonagall (gave marlene more biscuits than anyone else, helped marlene a lot when she was outed as a lesbian)
pandora- silvanus kettleburn (also has absolutely no sense of safety, is very easygoing, encourages pandora's experiments)
regulus- horace slughorn (treated him like an adult, let him sit in the potions classrooms whenever to escape people, liked him more than sirius which no other teachers did, no matter how much sirius misbehaved)
