Chapter One: Arrested
They locked eyes as Barbara rose from her perch, and in the dim alley lighting, Jason cursed under his breath and said, "Man am I in trouble..." He sank down to the ground and covered his face.
Barbara sighed and came down to meet him, and she sat down by his side. "You're gonna turn me in, huh?" he asked, still hiding his face.
She didn't say anything at first. "Where are your parents? Maybe I can just take you home after you return the tires you took," she offered. Jason didn't answer her. "Or I could just turn you in."
"My parents are dead," Jason mumbled, "Do you sit and talk to every crook you meet or am I just special?"
"Now, if I tell you you're special, it's gonna make me seem like a jerk," Barbara joked, "But if you don't have any parents to go home to... I kind of have to take you in."
"Can't you just save me the trouble of running away from a foster home and let me off with a warning?" Jason asked. Barbara sucked her teeth and knocked the back of her head against the Batmobile as she tried to think of something to do. "What part of Gotham are you from?"
"Why?" she asked.
"You don't sound like you're from here," Jason whispered, "Are you gonna turn me in?" She shrugged. "You are gonna tell your dad, though?"
"My dad?" Barbara asked. "Oh! He's not my—."
"Is he your boyfriend then?" Jason asked. Barbara screwed her face up and shook her head.
"Please stop talking and let me think for a second... Also, no, he isn't my boyfriend. Let's go get that tire back, and then I'll make my decision. Okay?" Barbara suggested, and she helped him up.
Jason led her back to his apartment, where he kept the tire. They both climbed up the fire escape, and Barbara took a look around at the rundown apartment. Jason's mattress sat in the corner of the living room by the door. He rolled the tire back towards the fire escape window, only stopping when Barbara let out a sigh. "What? I'm gonna put it back the same way I left it, I swear," Jason reassured her.
"No, it's not that... Do you wanna get something to eat after this?" Barbara asked. Jason turned and cocked his head at her. "What?"
"You don't have any Batgirl stuff to do? You and Batman don't go out to dinner—?"
"Again, we're not dating... Also, no. I'm on my own time. If it's too embarrassing to eat dinner with me as Batgirl, I could hang back, and we could eat on one—."
"No, I'm just saying that if I was you, I would do anything to not have dinner with me," Jason interrupted. Barbara chewed her bottom lip.
"Come on, kid. Let's go put the tire back and get something to eat before all the good food places close up for the night," she nudged him before making her way out the window and helping him get the tire out onto the fire escape. They went back to the batmobile, and Jason put the tire back. "Good, now we can—."
"I gotta tighten this one before we go. I loosened the nuts on this one," Jason interrupted as he crouched down with the tire iron and tightened it back up. "Now, I'm done." Barbara smiled at him, and she led him back to where her bike was. "So, if Batman isn't your dad... Does your dad know you ride motorcycles in a bat costume all night?" She messed up his hair.
"No, and you won't tell him," she laughed as she passed him a helmet. Barbara climbed on her bike, and Jason put on the helmet she gave him and climbed on after her. She put her helmet on and turned to him. Jason looked around for something to hold onto, and she chuckled and shook her head. "You're gonna have to hold onto me." Jason nodded and wrapped his arms around her waist. She started her bike up and drove off.
Jason tightened his grip and held on that way until they stopped at a food truck. Barbara told him to order anything he wanted once they got off. Jason took his helmet off to reveal a complete look of bewilderment, and Barbara chuckled. "You'll get used to it," Barbara reassured him.
"You say that like you're gonna be picking me up again after tonight," Jason chuckled uncomfortably. They ordered their food and took a number. "So, are you gonna turn me in?" Barbara nodded.
"Yeah, I decided. You're a hardened criminal... No, I'm not gonna turn you in. I'm gonna take you somewhere, though, because you can't go back there. What's your name, by the way, I forgot to ask?" Barbara whispered as she leaned against the wall. Jason stood next to her.
"My name's Jason," he introduced himself to her, "And I'm kind of glad I didn't go with my first plan of action..."
"What was that?" she asked.
"Hitting you with a tire iron and calling you Carrot Top," Jason raised his shoulders out of embarrassment, and he was a little startled when she laughed at him.
"Carrot Top? Oh yeah, that was a horrible plan. I would've been pissed," she chuckled, "So glad you didn't do that... Also, it's nice to meet you, Jason."
They got their food and ate on the curb together. "Where are you gonna take me?" Jason asked.
Jason spilled a little barbecue sauce on his hoodie. Barbara nudged him. "Want a bite?" Jason asked.
"N—. Why not?" Barbara took a bite of his burger and nodded. "Mm, I was gonna tell you you've got a little something on your jacket."
Jason shrugged and went back to eating. "No big deal... But you never answered my question."
"I know, but I just think it'll be easier to show you than it would be to tell you," Barbara explained, "You trust me?"
Jason looked up at her and nodded. "Yeah," Jason smiled a little half-smile, "Sure." After they finished eating, Barbara took a napkin and wiped her hands, and gave Jason one.
"Wanna ride around for a little bit? Or are you tired?" Barbara asked.
"I'm never tired," Jason replied as he put the helmet back on, and Barbara climbed on her bike. He held on tight while they rode around in circles for a few hours, and she decided it was time to take him back. She parked in an alley and climbed up the fire escape.
"Wait out here, just one second, okay?" she whispered and motioned for him to stay quiet. Jason nodded and stood against the wall as he watched her close the curtains. Barbara came down a few minutes later in civvies and took his hand. "Now, you're not gonna tell my dad anything. If he asks, I met you at my job at the library. Okay?" Barbara asked.
Jason nodded wordlessly, and she moved to lead him into her building, but he didn't move. "What's wrong?" Barbara asked, turning to look at him.
"You look like my mom," Jason mumbled. He swallowed hard, and he wouldn't make any further eye contact with her. The look of her freckles and the softness in her eyes made his chest hurt. Barbara didn't notice. She just wanted to get him inside before she lost the courage to speak with her dad.
"Shush, okay. Now come on," Barbara whispered as she moved again, and he didn't budge. Barbara looked back at him, and she softened up. Tears streamed down Jason's face, and he turned his head away from her. "Come here." Her voice was soft and sincere.
Jason embraced her, and for the first time since his mother died, he wept. Barbara was taken aback by the sudden shift in his emotions, but she hugged him back. "Wanna talk about it?" she asked.
Jason shook his head. Barbara nodded and held onto him until he stopped crying, and he let her take him into her apartment building. They went up the elevator, and as soon as Barbara got the door unlocked, she called for Commissioner Gordon. "Hey, Dad? I brought a friend with me, hope you don't mind. We already ate," Barbara explained, and Commissioner Gordon came out of the kitchen with a bowl of macaroni and cheese.
"Your friend doesn't look old enough to be out this late... Where's his—?" Barbara shook her head. "Oh. Sure you're not still hungry, err... Um..."
"Jason, I met him at the library. I was kind of wondering if maybe he could crash here for a while," Barbara suggested, "Like a long while?"
"Help yourself to whatever's in the kitchen, son... Babs, can I talk to you in private?" Jim asked. She nodded and followed him to his room.
Jason looked around at their family pictures and their furniture. He sniffed and kicked off his shoes and set them aside before going into the kitchen and washing his hands. Jason could hear them arguing, but it didn't sound bad, so Jason made himself a plate of food and sat on the floor at their coffee table. He was about to get up and make himself another helping when Jim and Barbara came back out. "Jason, how old are you?" Jim asked.
"Almost thirteen," Jason answered.
"Why do you look familiar?" Jim asked.
"You might've taken my dad in back when he was around... She didn't tell me you—." Barbara shot him a look. "Were such a good cook..."
"Thanks, and you can stay here. We'll figure things out as we go along, I guess. Also, you can finish eating... I'm gonna go see if I could find something for you to wear," Jim replied. Jason nodded and went back to the kitchen, and Barbara followed him.
As soon as Jim was out of earshot, Jason shot her a look. "Your dad is a cop. The commissioner at that. That's like the king of cops. Are you crazy?" Jason whispered.
"Well—."
"Jesus Christ," Jason turned away to make his plate, "You don't think you could've warned me a little?"
"I knew you wouldn't have gone for it. Besides, it's either this or foster care, kid. I don't know what else to tell you. This way, I can keep an eye on you," Barbara whispered.
Jason knocked her as he passed and sat down on the floor at the coffee table. "Jason—."
"I'm only gonna stay because I have a feeling you're not gonna get off my back... But I want you to know I'm pissed," Jason muttered as he ate. Barbara sat next to him and turned the tv on.
"My dad's fine, trust me... And you'll like it here. We'll fix up your room and—."
"You want me to stay here. How come?" Jason asked. "And you don't have to sell me on staying here. Dinner already did." Barbara smiled and embraced him. Jason went red in the face and stumbled over his words. "Well... Gosh, I guess that answers my question." Jason went back to eating, and Jim came out of his room.
"I'll be right back. I'm going to the store," Jim announced, "Don't let her give you a hard time, Jason."
After Jim left, Jason looked at her. "What?" Barbara asked.
"Your dad's a cop. Why didn't you just become a cop?" Jason asked. Barbara sighed.
"Not for lack of trying, kid. He would rather die than see me put myself in harm's way," Barbara whispered, "Which is why you can't tell him anything about what I do."

AU Batboys as Cyberlife Androids
I have 100% a bit more than I can chew with this. As I mostly know these fandoms from fanfiction. And I haven't even played the game. But that doesn't stop me from going of the deep end and make a AU in my head featuring the bat boys as cyberlife androids. And of course, Bruce is the but of the jokes too. So how does this work? Let me tell you what I came up with at work doing busy work that requires low brain power, and I pretty much autopilot and AU craft. So the idea is that Dick, Jay, Tim, and Dami have all ended up deviating. And due to damage taken, has either managed to cram themselves altogether in child model Android (or some sort of USB system storage). Anyway, that's how we get Robin, who managed to sneak away using a circus as a cover, and they end up in Gotham. (I think Dick might have been a police android before the transfer to the Robin collective, and Jay maybe was modified by the past owner for crime, no idea about Tim and Dami yet, though.) So, even if they are at risk of getting hurt, they still try to do good in the world. They some how run into Batman. With a lot of back and forth, Bruce managed to convince Robin to come with him. What they don't tell Bruce at first is that there are more of them. So, after some time, Robin asks Bruce if he could get an adult frame, please. Brucie managed to convince the public that he got the child boot secondhand. And there has been a lot of speculation as to why of the not-so-savory variety. So when Bruce requests a blank model with no programming to be sent to Wayne Tech for the transfer. The only reason Cyberlife agrees to it is that someone in Wayne tech RND convinces them Wayne is probably just gonna .... the bot. and yeah, that's how Dick gets the cake. As the others were like no, you've been in charge of Robin for so long now, you go first. So Dick agrees to transfer to the new custom model, which can change to Mr. Wayne's preference. To Bruce's surprise, Robin is operational, just different as Jay is in charge of the collective now as the next experienced model in the line. This is where Dick and the others come clear that Robin is more of a Matryoshka situation. It takes some time for Bruce to get to terms with that situation. But after some time has gone by, they come up with a plan to get another clean slate android body. Brucie is now gonna be in to role play, for his second android. He manages to get one of them beefy security bots. So yeah, he leaves Wayne RND with the forwarding request for a new blank bot from Cyberlife. And some techs are thoroughly amused by the goings on that the requests go through. And That's how we get a big beefy boy for Jay to jump to. Making it Tim's turn to be in primary control of Robin for a time. Bruce asks Robin just how many there are in there now, as it seems like the supply is never-ending. Tim calms Bruce down by saying that if they get one more android body, they'll have one each. more time elapse. And Brucie has to make yet another request, this time for a android secretary. Lucky for Bruce, the same guys as the last time are still changing and approving his request again, sending what they laughingly call "an Androgynous Twink for Mr Wayne" this time. And That's how we get Tim and Dami separated again.
And that's what I got so far, as I have no clue what more to do than possibly draw stuff. ---- So I posted on Discord to and the oh so wonderful @bucketorandomness
Added this; yes, I asked if it was okay to do the edit with credit
Option for more after-market additions for the boys:
Damian was originally a security model who was changed into an assassin by unsavory folks
Timothy was still a Drake, purchased as a kind of “test run for a real child” which they think is going great when it really wasn’t. Extra learning modules and some advanced reasoning in his base programming were mandatory for purchase
Cassandra, like Dami, was repurposed into a stealth-based assassin from a dancer base. Language programming was removed to make more room for the modifications. She follows one of the others home after recognizing a fellow android
Duke gets adopted into the Robin Collective temporarily while they drag his model back to Bruce and demand he fix it
Stephanie isn’t an android, but she did jokingly offer to join the Robin Collective once science figures out how to download a consciousness. Whether or not that already exists is up for debate.
Barbara can be a secretary model for the GPD or she can be another human like Steph if you want. If she is an android, I suggest Jim Gordon notices her deviancy and decides to adopt this new person and teach her how to people like a daughter. Also maybe self-installed body mods. I feel like she’d get a tattoo without supervision so why not upgrade her own RAM and other abilities?

Fandom song animatic tournament: Bracket 2 Side A Round 2
You're Gonna Go Far, Kid - The Offspring
"With a thousand lies and a good disguise Hit 'em right between the eyes Hit 'em right between the eyes When you walk away, nothing more to say See the lightning in your eyes See 'em running for their lives"
Dr Sunshine is Dead - Will Wood and the Tapeworms
"I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night Well, who else could I be when I can hardly see? I am not the sunshine, I am not the moon at night I'm no one if I'm nowhere in between"
Remember that we're voting on how Iconic they are for ANIMATICS, not for the song itself. In order to make things fair, the tone and mood of the song should not affect how iconic it is (for example, a serious song should not be considered more iconic than a joke song just because it's serious)
Propaganda and animatic links of the songs under the cut:
You're Gonna Go Far, Kid - The Offspring
Propaganda:
sorry I can't write propaganda pieces but fuck I loved that song growing up, I'd see it in a ton of Undertale fan animations (often made in Flipnote and uploaded through Hatena) and by the gods I loved it like it was my own son.
My mom found a nightcore MLP AMV with this song and didn't realized there was swearing in it when she showed me. Anyway, 2009 edgelords go brr Also that guitar solo is just epic
Animatics with the song:

Ace Attorney Klavier Animatic

South Park
Dr Sunshine is Dead - Will Wood and the Tapeworms

No Propaganda Submitted
Animatics with the song:
Batman AU Animatic

The Glass Scientists
Kirby Viva Piñata AU Animatic

Please be cautious and read the title, description and warning cards on the animatic videos if you decide to watch them. If you've got specific triggers I'd recommend even more caution when watching animatics of fandoms you don't know, since sometimes canon-typical themes don't get warnings.

Summary: Bruce Wayne is dead. Batman is gone. As the siblings of one man's legacy grapple for the mantle of the bat, Gotham eats itself alive. In the midst of this chaos, Bette Kane arrives to help and Damian al Ghul looks for a father he barely knew. TLDR: Flamebird moves to Gotham, Damian looks for Bruce, and the rest of the family struggle to keep the place running. Now there are too many Batmen running around and maybe more vigilantes in Gotham than anyone knew about. (This story is a full Batte For The Cowl (2009) re-write. In this au series, Bette Kane is the one who takes Damian in when he comes to Gotham.)
It is with great horror and anticipation that I unveil CHIROPTERA to you all. This first chapter was a bitch to write, but I'm super glad I made it past my initial goal of 2k words.
Jokes aside, this is my first time publishing something so please cut me a lil slack. I hope you enjoy this as I continue to work on the au!

DC fic rec for @tarboyman with my little commentary this time and uhh this is a long one. Edit: enjoy around 800k words of fanfiction muah
The *New* Teen Titans ~ Part 1 ~ Titans Go! by KatScythe Word Count: 77k Chapter(s): 22/22 Summary: THIS IS WHAT 'TITANS' SHOULD HAVE BEEN A new adult revamp of the original 2003 Teen Titans cartoon, starting at the very beginning just like the live action show, with bits and pieces from all the different media versions of the Teen Titans out there, including the original comics. Full of blood and gore and foul-mouthedness, and real consequences to five superpowered idiot teenagers running around beating the shit out of people, blowing stuff up, and causing general mayhem. Five teenagers: each one gifted with amazing power, each one cursed with its burden. An alien ship crashes to earth, and fate draws them together. Five heroes—One team. Titans, GO! My thoughts: It's exactly what it says and exactly what I wanted. I've always been a young justice girl but I love this fic so much
Banshee in A Well by liverobinreaction (bugbee) Word count: 43k Chapter(s): 5/5 Summary: Tim is five years old when he drowns in his parents' pool. He dies quietly, waiting for parents who love him, but will never be there, to realise that something is wrong. They never show up, and he sinks into oblivion. When he wakes up and claws his way out of the water, the sun has set, and the lights of his house are on. He is cold and wet and his lungs burn. But most of all, Tim is alone. (If you die and no-one is there to see it, were you ever alive in the first place?) My thoughts: It's been a while since I've read this and I'm going to reread it for that reason but I remember liking it and it's bookmarked for a reason
Liminal Spaces (Series) by Calamityjim Word Count: 339k Fic count: 12 Summary: Young Justice Batman decides that he is the Superior Partent and Tim Drake ends up along for the ride My thoughts: A classic in the Batfam side of the DC fandom. Tim is a little more fanon than canon but thats ok and I think it works for what the story is
Reverse Robins (Series) by InsaneTrollLogic Word count: 51k Fic count: 5 Summary: Accidental series about the Batfam with Damian as the first Robin. Stories will stand alone. Mood whiplash will be severe. My thoughts: When they say mood wiplash will be severe they are Not joking. I love reverse robin shit so much. My favorites are Placeholder and For the Taking
face the fire by Skrigget Word Count: 9k Chapter(s): 1/1 Summary: “Bruce doesn’t always mean it when he yells, Damian,” Timothy sighs. “He just isn’t good at expressing himself. He is worried about you too, you know. And he is glad we are both safe.” Damian closes his eyes and refuses to cry in front of his rival. Timothy doesn’t comment on it. Instead he places a gentle hand on Damian’s head for a second before he gets up and quietly exists the room again to give Damian his privacy.  Damian is 13 when he meets his father for the first time - the same age as his rival (and brother) Timothy Drake. This changes everything and nothing. My thoughts: I didn't realize how many of these were AU's until I was writing this out but hey these are some of my favorite fics and it shows what I like. A great character study for Damian and his dynamic with Tim that can be applied even in canon
Life with You Makes Perfect Sense by ArthurianScribe Word Count: 10k Chapter(s): 1/1 Summary: When Tim tells Conner that he can't be Robin anymore, Conner decides to take matters into his own hands. Things sort of escalate from there. My thoughts: I have to push my Timkon agenda here ok? I care for them so deeply and this is such a good fic in general
More broken Than I Thought by GodIsZombie Word count: 4k Chapter(s): 1/1 Summary: Something was wrong with the demon brat. And this, whatever this was, is so outside of Tim's wheelhouse. Damian has PTSD. And a bad flashback teaches Tim a little more about his little brother. My thoughts: Short but I love it and reread it often. A good character analysis of Damian and honestly his trauma should be explored more!
In For a Pound (Series) by Cdelphiki Word Count: 286k Fic count: 6 Summary: They say a baby changes everything. How would raising a baby Damian Wayne change Bruce and the Batfamily? My thoughts: Now this author is very popular in the fandom for a good reason. The sixth fic is the most popular with 120k and 36/? chapters.

I don’t understand why Batman is the most popular crossover for mlb when so many other fandoms are better. MHA and One Piece have insane power systems that would mix hilariously with akumas and miraculous for example. (Imagine Luffy using lucky charm, getting a mirror, and just throwing it at an someone)
I think there's three reasons that ML/Batman crossovers are popular.
1.) Both are Superhero series that can easily take place in the same universe. Batman is used to crossovers with other DC properties in general and having other Heroes and even Magic Nonsense. ML expanded its universe to include more Heroes all over and even have their own DC expies in Knight Owl and Majestia. Their worldbuilding and Magic Systems don't clash at all.
2.) there's kind of a running joke in Batman fics and especially in crossover fics of how if you have a kid with black hair, blue eyes, and also powers and/or vigilante experience being dropped into Gotham, they're going to get dragged into the Waynes somehow. (DP/DC fics use this a lot)
3.) Salt.
No seriously. There were like, a handful of ML/Batman crossovers. But then the major salt wave from 'Chameleon' happened. And there was an influx of 'Marinette gets away from her shitty toxic classmates and has a whole new group of friends in the crossover characters.'. There was one like. I forget if the original was a full fic or just prompts on a tumblr like how we spitball AUs, but a lot of people wanted to try their hand at it so there's a fuckton of 'class trip to Gotham where Mari befriends the Batfam' fics that all follow the exact same beats but just shifted depending on which classmates are being salted.

Yandere Requests: Closed for Now~
Rules:
Hi, I'm luverz-exe, and I am starting a Yandere page! Oneshots, Headcanons, and scenarios are all allowed! I have previous experience with writing yanderes, due to me working on Quotev by the name LUVERZ.EXE to write my stories, all of which are yandere (if you find my page though, don't look at my finished stuff, those ones were my first books and they sucked). I love what I do, and have barely any guts so your request will obviously be accepted!
As for what fandoms I'll write for, well, as long as it isn't real people/personas, I think I'll be fine with anything! Even if I don't know it well/at all, I am willing to do research for it, and will be more than happy to do the request.
But, if you'd like a list of fandoms I know, then here you are! Obviously, some of them are jokes, but you can request them too if you'd like, I don't mind.
Undertale (Any AU's)
He man and the master's of the universe (mostly for shitposts)
Heathers
Fnaf (All games, including books)
Friday Night funkin (All mods)
(I have no self-respect) Cookie Run: Kingdom/Ovenbreak
Futurama
My Hero Academia
Slashers
The Stanley Parable
Animal crossing
Danganronpa
Danganronpa 2
Danganronpa V3
Disney (All movies)
Dayshift at freddy's
Mystic messenger
ALTER EGO
The umbrella Academy
Love Death + Robots
The Arcana
Monster prom (1 and 3, I haven't seen 2 yet. But Ik characters from 2 do appear, so I'll do them but don't expect it to be super accurate.)
Dialtown
Clone high
Centaurworld
Creepypasta
Over the garden wall
Ouran highschool host club (OHSHC)
Saiki K.
Moral Orel
Gravity falls
South park
SCP foundation YOUR SCP PRIVILEGES HAVE BEEN REVOKED FOR AWHILE, HOLY SHIT I HAVE A LOT OF SCP
TF2
DDLC
Vocaloid
Deltarune (Chapters 1 + 2)
All of the Batman franchise (Comics, Games, Tv series, all that jazz)
Like I said, you can request stuff off the list, I don't mind. And, before I forget, if you want I can have your request not only on Tumblr, but in my newest Oneshot, Headcanon and scenario book, but I'll only do it if you ask. I don't want to make you uncomfortable.
Speaking of that, I'll only do smut if requested. And if you do, please list kinks and stuff you want in it. It would really help out a lot. And obviously, for younger characters, I will not be writing smut. That'd be creepy.
If you don't like yandere content, please don't read it, it's simple. I honestly don't support it IRL, and the topic of yanderes should remain in fiction only. And don't you worry folks, I mean no harm, and I certainly can't bite you through the internet-
But anyways, I really hope you enjoy the content I make! Feel free to request.

So I read kindergarten AU on a random post underneath the one I just read a DC post.
Realizing it was for a different fandom than DC i went oh not what my brain thought it was. So i thought hey might as well trow that random idea out for the masers. So here the thought. what if the JL was not like real hero’s and so but just play pretend by some of the older kids in the kindergarten group as a long running play thing. so much so that they thought the other kids the rules of the game so to say. So the kids still be themself in their civilian “adult persona“ after their real self. So Bruce Wayne still be Bruce Wayne (also fake drunk Brucie is even more funny in this context). But Batman being only a play thing they do with some costumes that were donated to the kindergarten. hence why  Bruce’s “adopted kids“  grow out of robin as the costume is tiny. (they play house just with superhero’s too) The big kids have dips on the thing they use for the costumes (OG JL who started the play). so the younger kids they roped in to play get older they have to gt creative with their costumes. Jason running around with a red bucket on his head and water guns was not Bruce’s idea of fun. The villains could be a mix of other kids and caretakers in on the joke/play. some of the adults not getting the memo that what they do is not funny according to the kids. I think cat woman being on of the adults who get it be fun. and Bruce’s puppy crush on her is cute but she isn’t gonna let it go anywhere. (no she isn’t gonna fake marry you Bruce even if you set up a wedding) also the only blood related ppl in the family are sibling in their true reality. like Bruce and Damien be siblings in this. But Clark and Conner could be half siblings. And Clark was not impressed when he learnt. The is more than can be done with this i know, but if anyone wanna continue this post or use the idea you are free to do so.

Chapter Three: The Thunderclap (Jason Todd's POV)
I woke up looking for them again. It still happens sometimes. I get out of bed, checking the bedrooms before realizing that they are never coming home. That night was particularly terrible. I made myself a cup of tea and stared at the ghosts on my wall. Photographs of times long past. I could almost hear them laughing sometimes.
I looked at the clock in the hallway and tried to catch my breath. My alarm would go off any minute, so I showered to settle my nerves. Cold water. Always cold water in the morning. I washed my hair, slowly turning the water up to lukewarm, and scrubbed my skin once more, crying as I ran the towelette over a tattoo I got for them. I felt ill, as I always did when I thought of them. Sometimes I felt so sick I thought I'd die, but I pushed through because it was better than stopping. It was better than feeling.
I dressed in an embroidered green silk shirt and black pants. Then, I tossed on a thick cotton jacket. It wouldn't be chilly outside, but I ran cold enough to need it. I shifted my focus to better thoughts. Hopeful thoughts. I don't think I could've retired even if I wanted to. The case files kept me going. Their faces in the dossiers. Their stories. I slipped on my loafers and spritzed cologne in the air. It wasn't until I put on my seatbelt that I broke down. I leaned over the steering wheel, sobbing as if just moments ago I'd found out...
I only felt grief that instant because I had work to do. I collected myself and drove to the juvenile detention center. Warren went in to identify himself in the pickup area, and I waited quietly with Mary. "You didn't have to wake up so early—."
"I was up anyway... Besides, I think it's vital that he's surrounded by people who care about him. Most parents perceive this as the end and feel it's their time to let out a sigh of relief, but this is the most painful transition Terry will ever make in his life," I explained. Mary looked up into my eyes, and I took a breath. It was so early that the sun hadn't risen yet. We stood in the cold and the dark, waiting to hear Terry's voice.
"Terry tells me you're schway," Mary whispered. I chuckled. "He never stops talking about you."
"Schway," I smiled as I shook my head, "Kids are funny, aren't they? They go through rough patches, and we wonder if they'll ever get through it, and they surprise us every time... Terry's gonna surprise us all. I've got a good feeling about him... And not just 'cause he called me schway."
Mary smiled. "I hope so... He was such a sweet boy growing up. You should've seen him then, but he's always prided himself on his honesty. I don't think he's ever lied to me. Not once. Even when he was running with that gang, he never lied. He'd tell me not to ask. Terry's never been a liar," Mary whispered.
"I can tell... You and Warren raised two great kids. How's Matt?" I questioned. Mary grinned.
"He's doing fine. Matt told me to ask if you could come with Terry to see his play," Mary recalled.
"Sure. What's the play?" I grinned.
"Chicken Little. He's Foxy Loxy," Mary replied. We glanced at each other and started laughing. "I can always make something up—."
"No way. I love the theater. Even if it's in the elementary school auditorium," I joked. Then it happened. Time froze for her.
Warren walked beside Terry out of the main entrance. Mary stood on the tips of her toes, and I leaned over to whisper, "Go ahead. I'm sure he needs it."
Mary ran to him and nearly swept him off his feet. He staggered back into Warren, who kept Terry upright until he embraced Mary in return. "Mom," Terry mumbled as he hid his face in her shoulder. Warren took his glasses off and wiped away his tears.
Warren placed a comforting hand atop Terry's head. Terry turned to his father and embraced him. Warren's shoulders relaxed, and he wrapped his arms around his son. I tried to stay present in their moment, but I felt a chill, and my stomach lurched. I swallowed hard, shutting my eyes to push the feeling down, but it persisted until I felt a pair of arms wrap around me. I looked down and met eyes with Terry. I smiled and hugged back. "Thanks for coming, Jason," Terry replied.
"You must be starving. Tell your parents that breakfast is on me," I whispered as I nudged him. He nodded and returned to his parents. They looked at me, and I nodded insistently. They got in their cars, and Terry got in with Warren. I'd parked beside Warren and told them where we'd get breakfast.
I waited for him to tell Mary, and I led the way. Terry had French toast, eggs, and bacon. Mary and Warren had pancakes and bacon. I had an omelet and pancakes. It made me feel like a kid again. I loved breakfast time. It made me think of Bruce, half-asleep, tolerating the morning's light to humor me until school. I remembered the smell of his coffee. Nutty, heavily roasted, black.
I thought of Alfred's gentle reminders to Bruce to mind his manners. When I looked up, Mary and Warren asked if I'd stay with Terry while they spoke outside. I nodded. "You've been smiling this whole time," Terry noted, "I thought you were gonna be sick when I saw you earlier. What's up?"
"I've been stuck in my memories today. Everything reminds me of the past today," I confessed. Terry squinted at me, and I nodded. "I'll tell you about it some other time."
"Promise?" Terry asked. I chuckled. "I'm not joking." Terry smiled as he sipped his orange juice. The kid was persistent. I'll give him that.
"One story for every meetup... How about that?" I asked. Terry nodded.
"You've got a deal, Jason," Terry replied, "My dad doesn't get off work until five most days, so can I do my homework at your office?"
"We can discuss that with your parents... If they say it's alright, I'll keep the office open as long as you need," I answered. I didn't mind the company. It beat spending time alone going over case files, hoping that I wouldn't be bombarded with images of the past. Sometimes they laughed. Sometimes I heard them call out to me. All those sweet little helpless voices. Glass shattering as their innocence was torn away forever. Terry tapped the table. "Terry, do you like sports?"
"Mhm... Jason, can I ask you a personal question?" Terry requested. I nodded. "You said you're in your fifties... When'd you start doing this?"
"Twenty years ago," I answered. I didn't think I was impressive by any means. I was intentionally bland. But Terry was genuinely interested. "Cage fighting wasn't gonna cut it for career day at the kids' school."
Terry laughed, and when he saw my face, he grinned his little half-smile. "You're not kiddin'?" Terry asked.
"Jason 'The Thunderclap' Todd," I replied, "You should look up my matches. I was pretty good in my heyday."
"Do you miss it?" Terry asked.
"Nope... Medical bills were insane," I half-joked. Terry smiled at me.
“Why’d they call you The Thunderclap?” Terry questioned, raising his eyebrows.
“You’ll have to watch my matches to find out, Terry,” I chuckled.

Can you suggest a great place to start for a new Batman comics fan?
Hi! Ooooh this is a tough one. It kinda depends on what kind of Batman stories and which characters from the batfamily you like.
A great place to start is Batman: Year One by Frank Miller because it’s basically a modern retelling of the origin story.
I can also recommend some classic/pre-n52 Batman stories that you can read as standalones (in other words, they don’t require catching up with a year of comics before reading):
- Batman: Two-Face and Scarecrow Year One. Introduction to well-known villains. Basically, everything with “Year One” behind it is designed to be a starting point.
- The Long Halloween, by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Very well-known and acclaimed. It has a sequel, Dark Victory.
 - The Killing Joke, by Alan Moore. This one is a bit controversial in the fandom, some hail it as a classic, others don’t care for it much or downright hate it. In any case, it’s famous, maybe even famous enough for your library to have a copy.
- Hush, followed up by Hush Returns, and Heart of Hush. Hush isn’t a very well-known villain outside of the comics, but I feel like he’s brought up pretty often in the comics after his introduction, so it might be a good idea to read “Hush” just so you know who he is. "Hush” also has lots of appearances by other Batman characters, villains and heroes alike.
- Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. This is an AU story (which of course makes it a perfect standalone) but it’s a very famous one. Its success kinda started the “darker and grittier” trend that most movies follow.
There are many more but it has been a while since I’ve read them. No doubt some of my followers will be able to add to this.
If you’re interested in the Batfamily, here are some pre-n52 books for them:
- Robin Year One (Dick Grayson)
- Batgirl Year One (Barbara Gordon)
- A Death in the Family (the death of Jason Todd)
- “Robin” is a solo title for Tim Drake’s Robin, the collections are called Robin: Flying Solo, Robin: Teenage Wasteland, and Robin: The Big Leagues.
- Battle for the Cowl: this story takes place after Bruce Wayne/Batman has “died”, leaving Gotham in disarray. It introduces Dick Grayson as Batman with Damian Wayne as Robin.
- Tim Drake becomes Red Robin and has another solo title. Collections are: Red Robin: The Grail, Council of Spiders, Collision, Hit List, and Rabbithole.
- Gates of Gotham: a solid story that features Dick Grayson as Batman.
If you do want to read an actual run, I can recommend the Batman n52 run. The n52 was a reboot in 2011, which had a lot of issues as a whole because it erased fan favourite characters and storylines, so you’ll find a lot of people complaining about n52 online (usually for good reasons).  However, the “Batman” title was actually pretty good. (Although I’ve only read the first 5 TPs, I couldn’t keep up with comics anymore when I started working full-time so if they became terrible after Zero Year, do let me know in the comments lol.) Here are the collections of that run: Batman: The Court of Owls (2012), Batman: The City of Owls (2013), Batman: Death of the Family (2013), Batman: Zero Year - Secret City (2014), Batman: Zero Year - Dark City (2014), Batman: Graveyard Shift (2015), Batman: Endgame (2015), Batman: Superheavy (2016), Batman: Bloom (2016), and Batman: Epilogue (2016).
(I personally wasn’t a big fan of what the n52 did with the other members of the batfamily, so I focussed mostly on Batman stories during this time. I heard the n52 “Detective Comics” run, which is Batman’s other title, was decent as well but I wasn’t keeping up with that one so I can’t be sure.)
I can’t recommend anything more recent (after 2016) because I actually wasn’t able to keep up with comics anymore. (I know the n52 ended, but idk anything about what followed it.) But I’m sure some of my followers will be able to give even more recommendations!
In the end, this is very personal. When it comes to comics, there’s just so much out there, you can’t possibly read it all and there really isn’t such a thing as “required reading”. There will be writers whose interpretation of the characters you like, and ones you hate. ^^; You’ll have to discover what your taste is, and have fun along the way. :)

27 July 2022
The chiming of the grandfather clock in the foyer resounded throughout the manor. Alfred’s eyes scanned the newspaper, looking for anything on the family of the house or anything else amiss. Aside from the usual headlines of “[Insert Bat-Person Here] Saves the Day” there was nothing entirely eye-catching. Alfred placed the teacup down gently, the small click bouncing off the walls regardless, and he sighed. The manor had always been quiet, granted, but there are some days he wished that there was some more life around the area. It was strange, he could take the best care of any plant inside the silent walls and still they’d wither within days.
Then came a sound he hadn’t heard in quite some time. The familiar knock at the door startled Alfred. It was a simple tune, but it nevertheless sent chills up his spine. His hands shook almost, a sudden fear in them, while he grabbed onto the rifle hidden next to the bookshelf. A familiar but foreign sound put him on edge, it had to be a trick of some sort, some sick joke from the Joker perhaps, regardless he understood it as a threat. A memory flashed in his head as he made his way to the door.
~
19 May 2009
At the ring of a doorbell, Alfred picked the rifle up from the floor, Bruce had mentioned earlier that a few acquaintances of his were starting to get antsy, and for him to be ready if anything were to occur. He hid it easy behind the door as he opened it.
“Ah, Miss Kyle,” Alfred visibly relaxed when he saw you step inside.
“Bruce’s turn to watch the kid,” she says. She bent down to your level. “Give him hell for me,” she handed handed you the usual small bag of your belongings.
“I will,” you skipped inside and Alfred bid your mother goodbye.
“Well, Miss (Y/N), what shall we— Oh, goodness, give that to me!” Alfred moved the rifle out of your hands and placed back in its usual place. He didn’t even know how you picked up the thing, it’s a lot heavier than anyone would think given both the fact that it was loaded and from age alone. Not to mention he would’ve most likely been ripped to shreds by Selina, or even violently reprimanded by Bruce. And he didn’t even want to think about what your siblings would do. Strangely, despite outward circumstances, you were the baby of the family and everyone cared for you deeply.
At the very least, he’d like to think so. But there was a voice at the back of his head that you’d grow rather differently in comparison to the other Waynes. Such was clear whenever Alfred would be in charge of your care.
“Okay, okay,” a young (Y/N) smiled. “So you know it’s me, and you don’t have to hurt yourself trying to reach for that big thing again, I’ll knock like this, okay?” You explained while you knocked on the door five times in a simple rhythm.
“If you insist, Miss (Y/N),” Alfred pats your head gently.
“Okay, I’m going to go play with Jason!” You said loudly, running up the stairs. There is a slight thud that echoed around the manor followed by a quick “I’m okay!” Before the echoing sound of a door opening and slamming shut.
Alfred chuckled lightly before sitting back down. You’ve always been oddly observant, probably a product of your mother’s teaching, and no doubt you must’ve seen him blow his back out bending over to pick it up at least once, age never really caught up to Alfred until recently. But there were days when he could just watch you run around the manor and absorb some of that youthful energy.
“Cheeky girl, she is,” he sighs and continues on with the paper, marking interesting articles as needed and circling things for Bruce to look into later.
~
27 July 2022
Alfred rested his hand on the lock. Who would be at the other side of this door? It was more of the tune that was the most jarring, having heard it for the first time in years, he was in near shock. He steeled himself, anything was fair game behind this wall of mahogany and he had to be ready. Of the family he was the one who took it upon himself to grow from what happened to you, he had seen many a time how members of this family came and went then came right back, but the one that returned was almost never the same as the one who left. He reached for the rifle that was leaning on the wall next to the front door and slowly he unlocked it.
The sight before him nearly put him into cardiac arrest.
“I thought I told you that you didn’t need to grab that if it was me,” you said softly. You eyed the aged rifle, it didn’t even look like it could fire more than two rounds at its old state. Alfred had brought it back with him from his time in the British Special Forces, stating that it was a lucky object that he treasured, but the thing looked more like a hazard now. You remembered the thing even backfiring on him if anything.
“I must be dreaming,” Alfred’s voice wavered.
“Uhm… Gosh, I promise I had this entire thing planned out,” you rocked on your heels, “but now I have no clue what to say,” you shifted awkwardly and pressed your lips together. “Can I come inside? It’s really cold out here…” You brought your hands up to your arms and rubbed them up and down.
Alfred is a tough one, years of being in this family trained him so, and if you were going to duck under his radar then you’d have to be extra careful. Your siblings were another story, it was easy to get things past them so long as you stayed in character, but Alfred? He’s been through too much bull shit to just buy the story you gave Jason. You knew this immediately when Alfred moved to the side and allowed you to walk in slowly, almost unsure of whether or not you still belonged there. Honestly, you didn’t
“Where’s dad?”
“In his office at Wayne Industries, Miss Wayne,” Alfred says kept his responses brief. You didn’t know whether he had just stayed the same from when you last left or if he was just putting on the front for what was, at most, an unknown entity standing before him. You knew Alfred, and you knew he was smart enough to look twice at your arrival and the events leading up to it.
“What’s with the formalities, Al? What happened to just calling me (Y/N)?” You laughed. Even now it felt weird to hear him call you by that, it made you feel alienated, in a way, and you really considered Alfred more of a parental figure than Bruce ever was, or ever could be. “Geez, the way you’re looking at me makes me feel like I died and came back.” You tried to hold back the sarcasm in your voice.
“Apologies, Miss (Y/N),” Alfred eyed you wearily. You could tell he was analyzing you, and you couldn’t blame him. But when the sound of a jangling collar descended the stairs, your attention was automatically diverted to the ball of energy that, truthfully, you found surprising that he was still here.
“Titus!” You squealed. The large dog ran up to you and nuzzled his head your leg. If there was one thing you missed from this universe, it would’ve been Titus, the one living thing in this house that was always excited to see you, at the very least. Aside from Dick, but his appearance at the manor was always conditional and never for a long period of time before he’d go back to Blüdhaven. “Aww, hi, buddy! So cute as always, aren’t ya?” You rubbed behind his ears and he slobbered on your jeans, and although it was slightly disgusting you really did enjoy playing with him.
“Titus, heel,” Damian growled. He marched down the stairs. Just from one glance alone and you regretted coming back at all, you knew it, you knew as soon as you saw him you’d want to stay home. He had grown so much, goodness, you were never one to be too sentimental, but Damian always had a special place in your heart. You were blood-related, nothing would ever change that, and you’d always felt more of that “normal sibling” relationship with him than with any of the others, but that originates largely from bias. “I don’t understand why…” Titus didn’t move from your leg. Well, shit, you were hoping that you could’ve just had Alfred let you wait for Bruce in the bat cave, got the data on the justice league, then skipped out of this universe with Alex and Carter, but nope, you’ve so far run into Jason and Roy, Alfred, then Damian. At least you knew that the others don’t care much for returning home.
“Hey, Dami, how was school?” You smiled. Damian walks up to you slowly and then proceeds to circle you, looking for something that was amiss. Then his eyes moved to your neck. There was a visible scar across the front of it. You usually cover it up, actually, it’s not something you want to remember, but to make the conscious effort to hide it would bring suspicion to a group of vigilantes who were trained to find flaws. “Oh this thing? I just looked in the mirror and saw it, I’m not quite sure how it got there, don’t worry, I’m not suicidal or anything,” you chuckled. Damian finally wraps his arms around you and you stiffened. You haven’t really been one for much affection like this, as of late, and to get it from someone who didn’t traditionally do it, you wondered what state you left him in. And you knew Damian to be one who tended to be more averted to things like this, and you couldn’t deny that this, this felt nice. There were always times you wondered how the youngest Wayne had been holding up, you were his closest confidant at one point, and now you wondered what you were to him.
Sometimes you thought how much of a horrible person you must’ve been, leaving them all behind and when you got the opportunity to come back you just chose not to. You wondered what they were like when you left, but truthfully you usually did your best to push it to the back of your mind. The dead should stay dead, in your opinion.
“That was random,” you finally said before hugging him back. “Everything alright?”
“Master Damian, she doesn’t know.”
“You’re an idiot,” he finally musters out. You grinned awkwardly and rubbed the top of his head.
“Ah, I was worried for a second,” you said. Damian lets go of you and tugs on Titus’ collar.
“I’m going to go sit here,” he says quickly. He falls on the stair step and Titus sits next to him. You could see the cogs working in his head, moving to and fro and processing, yes, that was the right word. You wondered what it was that he did to properly think things through, you wanted to sit him down and pick apart his thought process simply because of how interesting it all was.
“Would you like me to call your father, Miss (Y/N)?” Alfred has his hand on the phone.
“Nah, it’s okay, I doubt he’d come anyways,” you sighed. Maybe you could convince him to let you into the cave but with Damian here, you’d have to reconsider your original plan. “I just came to apologize to you guys, it’s not fair I dragged you into mine and dad’s mess, you know? I think two months is long enough to be mad, right?” Two months, it was the time period that Alex had recommended.
“Has it really been two months, Miss (Y/N)?”
“Yeah, I think he’s learned his lesson,” you beamed.
“Alfred!” Tim calls out. Great, here comes another one, and one of the more observant of your siblings who was only second to Cass when you originally lived in the manor. Tim was one you had learned to be weary of a long time ago, you were never able to get anything past him and he wouldn’t even give you the chance to, the number of times he figured things out before you yourself did was remarkable. He walks in to the main room. “We’re out of coffee.” His eyes land on you and he rubs them tiredly.
“I believe I left it on the shelf, Master Drake.”
“On second thought, keep it,” Tim says, maintaining eye contact with you. You were beginning to remember why you dreaded coming to the manor. The stares. It felt like they were psychoanalyzing you, trying to pry into your brain and figure out just what made you so different from them, it sickened you sometimes but you didn’t dare call them out on it before. Hell, if you weren’t in character, you would’ve called them out on it now. Every time you thought back to them, your family, all you could remember was the constant interrogations, you knew they meant well, they had to, but now you couldn’t differentiate it from the borderline infantilization just because you didn’t put on tights and grab a gun. “I’m starting to hallucinate.”
“Gosh! I’ve only been gone for two months and you guys are treating it like I’ve been gone for years!” You stamped your foot on the ground. Yeah, you’re never doing that again, no wonder they treated you like a baby. “Geez, are you guys that mad at me?” Your expression wavered slightly. Step into the role, it’s not as hard as one would think.
“Hey, I left my mask in the ba—” Dick stops half inside the manor and half outside the manor. Alright, just throw out the plan in its entirety, why not, there’s no point. All you needed now was for Jason to run in.
“Master Dick, why don’t you take a seat,” Alfred offers. Without closing his jaw he follows Alfred to the couch and keeps his eyes trained on you. Great, another set of eyes. At least you knew Dick wasn’t going to cast you out.
“Guys, (Y/N)’s alive!” Jason shouts, helmet under his arm and guns in his hand. There he is. He looked around at his brothers and shut his hanging mouth.
“Oh really, Todd?” Damian snarks. “I didn’t notice.” You looked around them with wide eyes.
“Alive? I never died? What?” You stumbled on your words. You controlled your expressions well, you just realized how shaky your story is, but granted you also have to remember that you’re as confused as they are. Dick stands up and waves at his brothers.
“Family meeting in the bat cave, (Y/N) stay with Titus.” Seriously? Dead sister comes back and already they’re keeping her out of the loop? You weren’t really surprised, but you still were a little disappointed.
“Hey!”
“Love ya, sis,” Tim says as he passes by you. He quickly back tracks and pats your shoulder, then returns to the bat cave. The rest followed after and you slouched on the couch. Once the bookshelf moved back into place you placed your hand on your heart.
“I’m in,” you whispered. You waited to hear back from Alex, but you figured he was probably busy, he’d get into your head at one point after this. You usually hated communicating this way, telepathically, that is. It all felt so violating and, luckily, Alex agreed. But in what is now a high risk mission such as this then there are just some exceptions that would have to be made. You just hoped that he didn’t pry too much into your mind.

Hey you guys, I know there's been quite a bit going on in the Nova fandom for the past like, day and a half. I just wanted to share a few thoughts. It's a bit lengthy so I'm putting it under the cut.
1. Nova is going to be adapted into the MCU. Whether it's next year, or five or ten years from now, it's going to happen. We can't do anything about that.
2. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I love the movies just as much as I love the comics. I grew up with a dad who loves comics, and we collected them together. Spiderman, Fantastic 4, Batman, etc. I like to joke to my dad that he's totally mainstream. When the movies started coming out, my dad would take me to every single one. It was a way to grow this shared hobby we had with each other. So if they go ahead and make a Nova movie or episode series, I'm probably going to call my dad and we'll watch it together while we reminisce about the old days(ugh, I'm making myself sound so ancient). I like to think of the MCU as one giant AU, which my fellow comic fans know is like, one of the staples of the genre. Remember, it's only canon if you accept as such!
3. Sam and Rich deserve better. We haven't had a solo Nova run for years now, and Volume 7 was cut tragically short. If this is a way to get new content for them, then sign me up. I miss my boys.
4. Think about how reading their adventures made you feel. Now think about how there is going to be a whole new audience out there that are going to get to experience that. New fans = more people to love our boys. I am looking forward to all the new fanfiction, fanart, headcanons, and ships(as long as they're appropiate, furries/pedos/incestuals can get the flark out)!
To quote our beloved comics, Nova's don't get to quit, they step up. I can't speak for anyone else, but I know what I'm going to do. When those trailers come out you bet I'm going to be screaming and geeking out. When the new Nova fans(are we Novanauts? I'm going to go with that) start flowing in, I'm going to welcome them with open arms. And if the MCU versions of the characters are written in a way I don't like or even necessarily agree with, I'm going to ignore it. And probably write some fix-it fics in response.
Keep your heads up Novanauts, we got this!
