So I just made a post with Regulus and Lily friendship hcs and it gave me ideas for a regulily arc.

I don't usually ship Reg x Lily, even in Jegulily I usually don't see them dating, just sharing James. HOWEVER!

Bookworms turned friends. They start talking about James and how unhinged he is. Laughing about his confessions towards the red head. But Lily is pretty sure that Reg has a crush on her suitor. And she has a feeling that James hasn't been looking at just her... Perhaps Potter's heart beats for two people.

So here are some options.

Having gotten close very fast, and feeling quite at ease with each other, Regulus and Lily become the couple no one was expecting. James didn't know what to make of it. Was it heartbreaking or somewhat intriguing and perhaps hot? They eventually invite James to their relationship, upon realising they all have feelings involved - Regulily to Jegulily arc

Lily tells her friend Reg about her suspicions towards James developing a crush on him and they decide to prank Potter by pretending to date and see his reaction - fake dating to jegulus arc

People (James included) think they're dating, from the time they spend together and how Regulus treats her like a princess. However, he's actually just acting the way he was taught, polite and like a gentleman with his female friend. Dorcas is much too indelicate to be offered such manners (they enjoy bickering) and Pandora is more like a sister. So he really only acts like that towards Lily - probably Jegulus (James makes a move once he finds out they're not dating) to mutual confused feelings towards Lily to Jegulily

That time I wrote a whole jegulily fic and just left it in the drafts. Literally just remembered this scene:

Lily pushes the books onto the shelf and turns around, placing her elbows on the cart and resting her chin in her hands. Lily glances up at James, who is clearly distracted, and she follows his gaze. Oh.

James hasn’t even begun to put his stack of books back in their rightful place, too focused on Regulus who has just sat down across the library at a table in the corner. It’s late, and James should finish unloading this cart so he and Lily can leave, but he just can’t stop staring.

Lily hums, “He’s pretty, isn’t he?” Lily’s eyes catch on Regulus' hand as he pushes some of his hair behind his ear, focused on the pages of the book he’s reading. Lily is guessing James saw it too because his breath changes just slightly. Lily’s gaze is still focused on Regulus, but she sees James nod in the corner of her eye, “He really is.”

For a few moments they just watch Regulus, not saying anything at all. They take in the way he silently taps his knuckle on the table. Or they way he fidgets with his rings.

Then, abruptly, Lily stands up straight and moves out from behind the book cart. James' eyes widen “Where are you going?” Lily turns around to face James, starting to backpedal toward Regulus. She shrugs, “I’m going to talk to him.” James places the books down and shakes his head, “You are not.”

“Oh, I am.”

“Lily.” James whispers, a little frantically.

Lily grins, tilting her head to the side, causing her hair to brush over her shoulders, “I definitely am.” With that Lily turns around, still smirking, and continues walking over to Regulus.

When Regulus went for the fist time to the library he felt pretty lost, too small and nervous, looking everywhere just trying to find a decent title to read.

As if heaven had heard him, Lily Evans appeared with her beautiful smile and bright eyes asking if he needed any help.
