Iiiiii'm probably going to get let go from my job because my supervisor has it out for me. (This isn't me saying this, this is my mom who would call me out if she thought I was just being a whine ass and not actually doing my job, and my therapist who would also call me out AND says I'm taking too much responsibility in this.) Now I've been at this workplace for 6 years. I've had 5 different supervisors - only this one has had major ISSUES with me.

I struggle with communication. I don't get social cues that well, and I have perpetual RBF. (Or rather perpetual stare-into-the-void-face.) I don't get body language that well, even with people I have known my whole life. I have improved at communication a LOT in the six years I've been at my place of employment. I am NOT intentionally rude. I take a lot to anger and don't really have a temper*. I do my job and do it well.

(*I AM easily startled and will freak out if there are bugs which may caused a raised voice. I don't yell AT people because I'm angry or upset.)

But because of my communication difficulties, I've been put on an improvement plan that I have until January to show improvement. The deciding factor is what my supervisor thinks. There is no standard to meet, there is no solid way I can say 'yes, I have improved, I've done all of these things, look at all the tasks I've accomplished'. I don't how to show improvement in something so subjective.

somebody wanted me to make my own color theory post so here it is:

every guide to "color theory" i've ever been able to find is just this information and nothing further. just different presentations of these few types of combinations, sometimes with a little evopsych sprinkled in. at this point they really shouldn't be calling it a "theory." that implies there's a systemic logic going on, and if that were the case surely there would be some explanation beyond "vibes dude, trust me". (those color sets don't even look particularly Nice relative to other possibilities despite covering most possible combinations. there's certainly no way to prove any of it anyway.)

feels like some art school hivemind intent on believing that there's some complicated genius behind choosing colors, some whole topic of study to learn, when really there's just... colors and people who think that their opinions on colors are scientific. what really gets me is that it's presented as an essential topic to learn in order to make Good Art™. but, well, you really can't learn it all because most of it is vague implications with no substance, so everyone's a fake artist in the end by that metric.

so if you see these things around all the time surrounded by cryptic hints that there's "so much more scientific stuff" behind it and it's starting to make you feel like you're living in a simulation and starting to butt up against the edge of the world building, don't worry. it's not really important. it's just cultural associations and personal opinions (with a little pseudoscience) loosely assembled into mildly helpful guidelines. so go make art your own way, use or don't use whatever guidelines you find helpful. and try not to get discouraged by weird art school premises that don't actually have any "theory" backing them up anyway

the thing is. i don't particularly love the whole steph sends assassins after tim at the end of robin thing. but it is fascinating to me as one of those things that dc's like "okay, this did happen because we need it to have happened (it's pretty important as far as setting up steph and tim to move on to red robin & batgirl, it's extremely important that steph makes a mistake that causes harm so that tim is upset with her & so there's a justifiable reason steph can't be spoiler anymore & to set the stage for their dynamic in the reborn era & because her doing this to tim is also important to maintain tim's self-isolation at the start of red robin because if he had a girlfriend to depend on who he wasn't mad at he wouldn't be quite so self-destructive), but at the same time we desperately need to pretend like it did not happen (because if it did, and steph sent assassins after tim, he's entirely justified in being mad at her & also if she did that dick would probably feel about steph the way he feels about jean-paul valley)"

actually all this talk of wellness trends and health has reminded me of something.

if you're AFAB, you may or may not known what a decidual cast is. this can be useful to know, for example - one of my friends called me crying/terrified because she thought that she had internal bleeding or something else critically wrong, and by chance i happened to actually be able to look at a photo and be like ah, i think i know what's happened here.

It's simple, not heavy, and you understand at a glance how to use it. Nice and easy.

But! There aren't any really advanced features. Only the most basic stuff.

And ToonBoom kind of like this:

You can do anything with ToonBoom. I mean ANYTHING.

Whatever you think of, there's a feature here. Infinite canvas, thousands of options, 2D and 3D and customizable camera. You can make a vector or a raster, you can build a rocket there, you can find a cure for all diseases, you can resurrect yourself like Jesus, because the interface of this program will definitely kill you as soon as you get into it.

This is the main drawback, by the way. Without at least a few hours of tutorials, all you can effectively do with ToonBoom is cry. There are hundreds of buttons. And thousands of hotkeys that you can play Mozart or play on your nerve cells. Because one awkward move can get you into a "oh shit, I did something and now the pentagon is looking for me" situation.

I'm not going to lie, I like RoughAnimator better. It's a nice program that's good enough for animatic. But if I want to do something epic, I use ToonBoom

The few snippets of dialogue I've seen from from Hermes in Hades 2 really reaffirms a core part of whatever his relationship is to Charon to me: Hermes is extremely invested in making sure Charon has someone to talk to.

Please say hi to him. Please make sure he's doing okay. Please look out for him. Someone needs to be checking in on Charon and be there for Charon when Hermes can't be.

Maybe it's because he recognizes Charon is a loner and doesn't have people who worry about him. Maybe its because he knows Charon has a hard time communicating. Maybe its because Charon is a workaholic and will put the people he cares about before himself. Maybe he just really fucking likes Charon.

Probably all of these. But I had that assumption in the first game, and I'm glad its canonized (or so it seems) in second. Hermes worries about his big skull faced man's mental and social well-being so much that he's asking the children of Hades to take some time out of their big important 'find my mom/dad' quests to make sure boatmen aren't too lonely without they speedy chatty birds.
