you're so mind is so sexy, may i inquire about your thoughts on amanda grayson
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amanda Grayson is different from Sarek but just as detrimental to Spock's emotional health/self-confidence. Both she and Sarek very obviously love and care for each other deeply but for some reason cannot appreciate the traits they fell in love with in each other in their son. They both seem to, in different ways and to varying intensities, resent their son.
I'll be focusing on Amanda here, specifically the above section in 'Journey to Babel' where she entreats Spock to save his father's life. Amanda at the beginning of the episode seems to joke with Spock about how he still doesn't know how to smile. You can take her teasing of him in this instance and later at the banquet as motherly and good-natured but in the quoted scene this turns poisonous. It becomes clear that Amanda really does hold exasperated resentment towards Spock. Whether that's exacerbated by the situation or not, it's contained within her. However, it's also clear that Amanda did not foster 'Humanity' in Spock. Spock says that he followed Vulcan philosophy and deferred to his father. He is Vulcan and he desires to be Vulcan. However, it's not as if Amanda had no choice in the matter. They are BOTH Spock's parents and they raised him together. It's notable that Amanda does not say "I tried to comfort you" when she recounts Spock coming home from being bullied (it's implied this happened multiple times). She doesn't say "you pushed me away" or "I tried to comfort you" - she says she watched him. She watched him suffer, and she cried. She was an observer. This is reinforced to me by the timing of this confession. It's as if she's saying "You may think you're so Vulcan but I've seen your Human side, I've seen you suffering, I've seen you in pain. I know you're capable of feeling." It's a revelation - but why did she do nothing but watch, knowing her son was in anguish? It's also notable that in essence she is agreeing with his tormenters in this instance: Stop trying to be Vulcan. It's obvious to everyone, including your mother, that you are not. This is how I view Amanda's role in Spock's childhood. Mainly an observer. Spock loves her more than Sarek because he cannot remember her being as domineering as Sarek, as unforgiving as Sarek, but neither does she seem to have been particularly loving towards him. I think Amanda deferred to Sarek in raising Spock almost completely. She loves Sarek more than Spock and they both love each other more than they love their son. Sarek's life is more important than Spock's own and at the end of the day this was and will always be the case. It's notable that though Spock specifies he's only upset with Sarek, Amanda says that neither of them have heard from him in years - implying that though Amanda isn't upset with Spock, she doesn't see or speak to him. She and Sarek are a package, always. They will agree with one another, always, and it seems that Amanda has a tendency to defer to Sarek in most matters that won't jeopardize his life. It's interesting to me, how Amanda talks about humanity and how Spock states he was ashamed of being human. I wonder if Amanda could sense this shame and resented it. Despite loving a Vulcan, she positions humanity as better - warmer, kinder, a more loving a way to be when push comes to shove. An earlier conversation between her and Sarek also interests me. Sarek states that he isn't proud of Spock and doesn't consider him to be his son (in so many words) but that Spock, as an individual completely separate from familial ties, still deserves respect. He asks if Amanda understands this and she says no, but that she loves Sarek without needing to understand. He accepts this and they kiss, satisfied. This 'love without understanding' is intriguing. It's probably why Amanda can have lived on Vulcan, raised a child on Vulcan, and love a Vulcan without knowing what it is to BE Vulcan. At a fundamental level she doesn't care for it. She seems to view it still after so many years as alien. It contrasts completely her earlier statement where she professed to know and value the Vulcan way.
Tumblr media
Her acceptance of Vulcan as "something I love [conditionally] but don't understand" is the same as her acceptance of Spock. Spock wishes to be understood and loved by his parents. I take his insistence that Sarek would understand and agree with his decision as something of a comfort to him [as Sarek does not love, understanding and agreeing is the closest equivalent and something which Spock was not afforded before]. Amanda loves Spock conditionally, in the same way his father does, and she will utterly reject him if he does not live up to these conditions (which are less obvious in day to day life than Sarek's conditions but still present) - will hate him vehemently in contrast to his father's total silence. Will slap him in contrast to Sarek's cold eye, but the result is the same. "I do not understand you. If you do this, I will hate you for the rest of my life." I like this episode's interpretation of Amanda far more than adaptations which turn her into a saint. I think it's much more interesting to consider this woman as Spock's mother. When I hear Amanda say she will hate Spock for the rest of her life if he lets his father die (even if this is an emotional exaggeration), I think about Spock, crying on the floor, wondering desperately whether or not his mother knows how much he loves her. When she says she doesn't understand Vulcans, doesn't like how they operate, finds it an immoral way to be when push comes to shove, totally at odds with her human heart, I think of the fact that Spock is Vulcan, strives to be Vulcan, and how very at odds he is with that same heart which he loves - which says it loves him. I decided to post this here too cause why not?
If you're in Twitter (no way in Hell I'm ever calling it X) and in the Hazbin Hotel fandom, you've probably come across this little fella like I did. If not, basically someone turned Alastor into a "cursed cat" and now half the fandom has started making doodles of it and I obviously had to join in the trend the moment I found out about it 😂
Here's the user that started it https://twitter.com/coma_0423

Why is it so hard to date women??? I am one too. This shouldn't be so hard. And yet it really is.
I can get a man without even wanting to or meaning to (it happened unintentionally every time that way when I still dated men now I realized looking back on it). I could do that again but I never really enjoyed it before so I doubt I would like it any better now.
You're supposed to actually enjoy dating, right?
It's not supposed to be like pulling teeth, RIGHT??? :')
(I am trying to stay positive but WOW, this sucks OMG!)
#It's obvious that I have no fucking clue what I'm doing still#I think I am looking in the literal WORST places#the new app I tried for friends/dating isn't specifically gay but it has way too many men on it literally it's mostly men somehow#I'm sorry boys but I'm not interested#But I feel like I can't talk to girls on there because I don't want them to think I'm some creep :/ :/ :/#my profile says bisexual currently but I'm not sure that's accurate#I IDed as bi for half my life but I'm still not sure if that's true#I'm thinking of quitting that app too#I got cat fished on the last gay app I tried and it happened multiple times which was frustrating!!! :/#maybe this is all BAD Karma coming back to bite me#maybe I should reactivate my account on her any way and get catfished some more *shrug* maybe it's what I deserve#tbh I'm jealous of how easily other people seem to find each other I'll admit that#I've been watching too much of the Catfish TV show lately too which does not help either :(#I'm pissed at myself for wasting college now- I was even part of the LGBT student club at both my schools ughh#and though I liked some of the other girls in the clubs I never did anything because most of them were taken already (of course)#I have this weird feeling that I missed the train for someone on here but maybe I'm imagining it??? 0-o#I couldn't be sure and do not want to be annoying about it in case I misread some signals a while ago...?#it's okay I'm not hot and still don't know if I'm gay or bi at my age (I'm really 30 but probably don't seem it)#you can do way better than me girl is what I'm saying basically#dating apps are just...terrible? awful? the worst?#a free unhinged(?) rant for all my single friends :)#if you know you definitely know#though I hope you don't because... yikes I'm sorry if you know#any body got any other app ideas??? When Oliver Queen was dead, he ended up in the Infinite Realms, where he inadvertently became the mentor to teen ghost hero Phantom. After Ollie came back to life, he made a point of reaching out to Phantom, just in case the kid needed anything.
DCxDP Week prompt: found family
Author's Notes: I've tried to make this accessible as possible to those of you who aren't familiar with the Arrowfam, but here are links to character primers on Oliver Queen, Connor Hawke and Mia Dearden if you want them. If you are familiar with GA comics, then just know that this is set loosely during the 2001 run. And finally, the idea of a hero in the Infinite Realms helping mentor Danny was largely inspired by Blueseabird2's fic Grave Promises. (It's excellent! If you haven't read it, go do that!)
-
"Do you remember it?" Ollie asks, looking at Superman out of the corner of his eye.  They're standing in front of Oliver's grave.  Always made the right enemies. It's a hell of an epitaph; Ollie wonders who came up with it.  Roy or Dinah, probably.
"Remember..." Superman says.
"Being dead."
Supes gives him that same look everyone seems to be giving Ollie these days, like he's not quite sure if Ollie is all there in the head.
"Never mind."  Oliver waves a hand.  "Just thinking."
-
He does remember it, is the thing.  He remembers the endless Infinite Realms, as green as any of Hal's constructs.  He remembers the ghosts-- the ones who had originally been alive like him, and the ones that had never lived at all.  Humans and aliens and otherdimensional beings, all together in one place.  He remembers being in the same costume he'd died in, only color-flipped to red.  (That was just wrong.  Red was Roy's color, not Ollie's.)
And he remembers Phantom.
He'd met Phantom pretty early on.  Time in the Infinite Realms was tricky; it didn't move like time did on Earth.  Sometimes it went slower, sometimes faster, sometimes it even seemed to go backwards.   So he didn't remember exactly how long he'd been in the Realms before coming across Phantom, but it didn't feel like long.
Phantom had been chasing down some magical artifact when he'd come across Oliver-- or rather, Red Arrow-- who had picked a fight with an asshole ghost way more powerful than him.
Some things never changed.  But hey, ghost arrows were pretty nifty.
Phantom had helped him out, and in return Ollie had offered to help Phantom with tracking down the artifact he was looking for.  As they talked, it quickly became obvious that Phantom was doing the whole teen hero thing-- and not just in the Realms, but on Earth.  He clammed up when Ollie asked too many questions, but it was pretty clear that he didn't have a mentor or anything.
"Do you have the Teen Titans in your world?" Oliver asked, having learned by that point that the Infinite Realms connected every dimension out there.
"Yeah," Phantom had said, looking wary.
"You should talk to them," Oliver said.  "It helps to have someone out there on your side, who knows what you're dealing with."  The Titans had been good for Roy.  Not just friends, although they were that, too, but an extra support system.
But Phantom shook his head.  "I can't."  And then he'd gone on to describe the Anti-Ecto Acts and the GIW.
Ollie had never exactly been a fan of the government-- too much corruption, too many rich assholes using the system to protect themselves-- but this still managed to surprise him.  And while he was pretty sure his own world's Teen Titans wouldn't stand for this kind of thing-- or even the JLA, no matter how badly they sometimes overreached-- he had no way of knowing whether Phantom's Teen Titans were the same ones he knew.
"Tell you what," Ollie said.  "Next time you get a chance, track me down and I'll show you a few things.  I don't know how much help I'll be with superpowers, but--"
"Really?" Phantom had asked, then surprised Ollie by hugging him.
That was the start of it.  They'd tracked down the artifact, Phantom had left the Realms to go back and do his hero thing on Earth, and Oliver was left to second-guess himself until the next time Phantom came around.
Oliver wasn't exactly a perfect mentor.  He'd done his best for Roy, but there were so many things he would do differently if he had the chance.  But he was better than nothing, which was what Phantom had been working with before.
Phantom didn't need to learn archery; he had superpowers.  But Ollie managed to teach him a thing or two about picking your shot and waiting for the right moment.  About trusting your instincts and dodging bullets (or ectoblasts).
Phantom was cagey about anything that wasn't hero work, but Oliver managed to glean a few details.  He had a couple of living friends who helped him out, he was frequently chased down by ghost hunters, and most of the town he was based in didn't think particularly highly of him.  And that was on top of his whole rogue's gallery of villainous ghosts, not to mention the GIW.
"You can't make people like you," Ollie advised him.  "Even if you do all the right things.  You just have to trust yourself and ignore the public opinion."  God knew plenty of people had hated the Green Arrow over the years.
It had been rewarding, in a way Ollie had almost forgotten, watching Phantom grow as a hero.  Watching him grow more confident and more skilled-- and Ollie wasn't giving himself credit for all of that, but he'd helped bring those qualities out.
And then, Oliver came back to life.
-
"Where to next?" Roy asks, as they drive out of Central City. Ollie appreciates that Roy is willing to follow his lead on this, even though it's clear Roy thinks he's being ridiculous.  Sure, Wally would probably have let Ollie have that old ring of Barry's if he'd asked, just like the JLA would probably have let him have the diamond-tipped arrow.  But those things weren't theirs to keep or give in the first place.
"Amity Park, Illinois."
Roy gives him a skeptical look over the top of his sunglasses. "The hell is in Amity Park?"  He's bracing himself to hear about some other memorabilia Ollie left behind upon his death, something else that wasn't disposed of the way Ollie had requested.  Something else that other people-- even Roy-- think insignificant.
That would be easier to explain than this.
"Maybe nothing," Oliver says. "But I need to be sure."
-
Finding Amity Park in the first place is a task and a half.  It's not on the map Roy keeps in his glovebox, and they have to ask directions at multiple gas stations across Illinois before they arrive.
It's immediately clear that they're in the right place.  Amity Park is a small city-- barely even a city, really.  But the property damage evident on the streets and the buildings is on par with the aftermath of an alien invasion.
Roy slides off his shades.  "What on earth..."  He glances at Oliver.  "Ollie, what is this?"
A green streak shoots across the sky, followed by a white one.
Phantom.
"Follow them!"  Ollie points at the ghosts.
By the time they arrive, it's a stand-off.  The other ghost has disappeared, but Phantom is hovering twenty feet off the ground, dodging blasts from a couple in brightly colored hazmat suits.
The Fentons.  Ollie had heard a few stories about them while he was in the Infinite Realms, though Phantom had been reluctant to talk about them.
"Ollie," Roy says.  In his voice, Ollie can hear all the suppressed rage he himself is feeling, watching a child-- a superpowered child, but a child nonetheless-- getting shot at.
"Not yet."  Ollie wants to help, but he doesn't want to make things worse by jumping in without thinking.  Their help isn't needed in the end; Phantom manages to disappear from sight while the ghost hunters are distracted.
Oliver tells the whole story to Roy over dinner at the local fast food joint.
"Jesus Christ," Roy says.
"So you see why I want to talk to Phantom," Ollie says.
"Aren't you already training two kids already?  You gonna add all of this on top?"
"Connor doesn't need training.  He could probably teach me a thing or two.  And no one is training Mia in anything."  Okay, that last part isn't quite true; Oliver knows for a fact that Connor has been giving Mia lessons in archery and hand-to-hand.  But as long as she's not trying to put on a costume and fight crime, he'll pretend he doesn't know.  Hell, it makes him feel better, knowing that she has a trick or two up her sleeve.
"Phantom can't be much older than she is," Roy says, a hint of judgment in his tone.
"Phantom is already dead," he says.  Roy flinches a little.  "And he doesn't have a Hal Jordan to bring him back."
They go back to their burgers.  It's not until Oliver is crumpling up his wrapper that he speaks again.
"Look," Ollie says.  "This is a lot bigger than Phantom.  And based on what I know of him, he's not going to want to leave Amity Park.  But I want to let him know that someone's got his back."
Roy claps him on the shoulder.  "More than just one person."
-
Tracking down Phantom for a conversation is harder than it sounds.  Oliver doesn't know how much time he even spends out here, rather than in the Infinite Realms.  Not to mention the handy ghost power of invisibility.
He suits up and stakes out a rooftop downtown, with Roy doing the same on the other side of town.  He's just getting ready to pack it in for the night and try it again tomorrow when a familiar form materializes next to him.
"Arrow?" Phantom asks.
Oliver smiles.  "Hey, kid."
"What-- how-- you're alive?" Phantom sputters a little.
"Am now," Ollie says.  "A friend of mine brought me back."  He gives a quick overview-- Green Lantern, godlike power, decided what the world was missing was one Oliver Queen.
"I'm going to do what I can about the Anti-Ecto Acts and the GIW," Oliver says.  "But if you ever need anything, give me a call.  Or just track me down in Star."  He hands a slip of paper with his phone number and email on it to Phantom.
"Danny," Phantom says.
"Sorry?"
"My name.  It's Danny."
"Oliver."  Ollie holds out his hand and Danny shakes it.  "Good to meet you, Danny."
-
For a while, he only hears from Danny through irregular emails and the very occasional phone call.  Ollie leans on his Justice League acquaintances to help repeal the Anti-Ecto Acts and get rid of the GIW.  It's slow going-- much slower than Ollie would like.  Too many JL members are advising caution, wanting to find out more about ghosts and how dangerous they might be before they take a stand.  Luckily, neither Superman and Wonder Woman were happy about Oliver's news, and hold a lot of sway with the American public.  And rather conveniently, a number of reporters have suddenly begun looking into the Anti-Ecto Acts, stirring up public sentiment against them even more than before.
Things are looking good.  And then, Danny shows up at the front door of Oliver's brownstone.
Oliver is making himself a sandwich when he hears the knock at the door.  Mia (who had finally gotten Ollie to agree to let her be Speedy a few weeks back) is with the Teen Titans for the weekend, and Connor is working at the youth center for most of the day, so there's no one else here to answer the door.  Ollie wipes his hands on a kitchen towel, and opens the door.
Ollie doesn't know it's Danny at first.  The Danny he met was a ghost, complete with jumpsuit and white hair and superpowers.  The kid that shows up at Ollie's front door is a living, breathing kid.  He's got pale skin and dark hair and he can't be any older than sixteen.  He's a little on the thin side, though given his age, he could just be going through a growth spurt, and the backpack slung over his shoulder is decorated with a NASA patch.
"Ollie?" the kid asks.
"That's me," Ollie says.  "What can I do for you?"
"It's Danny.  Phantom," he clarifies in a low voice.  "From Amity Park."
He can see it, now that he knows to look.  The face and build are the same, just color-swapped.
“I need your help,” Danny continues.
The kid looks like he’s about to fall over from exhaustion or stress or both.
Ollie opens the door a little wider.  "Come on in.  I was just making myself some lunch.  You can tell me what's going on."
Danny follows him into the kitchen and takes a seat at the counter.   Ollie finishes the sandwiches and slides one over to Danny.
Danny doesn't pick it up at first, busy fidgeting with the sleeves of his hoodie.  “I don’t know where to start."
"Well, I gotta say," Oliver says.  "You're looking pretty alive for a dead guy.  I mean, same could be said for myself, but I told you how that happened."
Danny grimaces.  "About that.  It's kind of complicated."
Oliver leans against the opposite counter.  "Hit me with it."
He already knows it's bad.  He was worried about Phantom in the first place; that's why he gave Danny a way to contact him if necessary.  Whatever made Danny travel halfway across the country to see him?  It can't be good.
"My parents are the Fentons," Danny starts.
Immediately Oliver knows the story is going to be worse than he anticipated. "The ghost hunters.  The ones who built the portal."  Ollie had heard all about that portal during his sojourn in the Infinite Realms-- some from Phantom, some from other ghosts.
"Yeah.  Well, the portal didn't exactly work at first.  My friends wanted to see it, and..."  Danny shrugs.  "It worked better than anyone gave them credit for, it's just that they accidentally put the switch on the inside."
He can see where this story is going.  "And you accidentally turned it on."
"Yeah.  It killed me, but all the ectoplasm coming through the portal brought me back to life.  So I'm only half-dead."  Danny finishes up his sandwich but Oliver, who is familiar with the eating habits of superhero teenagers, hands him another one.
"I'm guessing your folks don't know."
"My sister does.  My parents don't."  Danny fidgets with the sleeves of his hoodie.  "That's not important."
It seems a little bit important.
“It don’t know if there’s anything you can do,” Danny adds. “I just… I didn’t know where else to go.”
“You can stay here as long as you need to," Ollie says.  There's an extra bedroom that Stanley used as an office, back when this place belonged to him.  He'll need to get the junk cleaned out, but it should work for Danny.  "But it might help if I had a few more details.  Is someone gonna come looking for you-- or for Phantom?"
"I don't think so," Danny says.  "Well, the GIW might, but they're not super active outside of Amity Park."
"We'll handle them if they show up."  Oliver would love the chance to put a few arrows in them, and he's sure Connor and Mia would feel the same.
There's obviously more to this story than Danny is currently telling him, but Ollie isn't gonna press.  Not yet.  Long and difficult experience has taught him how badly that usually goes when dealing with teenagers.
Danny finishes up his lunch, and Ollie shows him around, eventually leaving him to hang out in the living room and watch TV.  Ollie himself starts packing up the junk in the spare room.  Danny might have to sleep on the couch for a day or two, until they get a bed for him to use, but it's an alright couch.  Ollie has certainly slept in less comfortable places.
He doesn't realize how much time has passed until he hears Connor call him from downstairs.
"Dad?"
His tone of voice is carefully measured, but it's enough to remind Oliver that Danny is downstairs-- and that he didn't let Connor know about their new guest.
He dashes down the stairs and, sure enough, Connor and Danny are watching each other warily from other sides of the living room.  Danny in particular looks like he wants to bolt.
"This is Danny," Oliver says.  "He's gonna be staying with us for a while.  And Danny, this is my son, Connor.  He's the other Green Arrow."
"Nice to meet you," Connor says to Danny.  Then, "Dad, can I talk to you for a minute?"
Ollie follows Connor downstairs to the training room in their basement.  He has no idea how far Danny's enhanced senses extend outside the Infinite Realms-- or even if they work at all when he's not a ghost-- but Ollie suspects this conversation might not be as private as Connor is hoping.
"Are you sure about this?"  Connor asks.
"He doesn't have anywhere else," Ollie says.  "What do you want me to do?"
Connor runs his hand over his face.  "I don't know.  But have you even talked to Mia about this?  When did you even meet this kid?"
"It was a sudden development," Ollie says.  "So no, I didn't.  But I don't think Mia's gonna tell me to send him packing."  He knows that's not what Connor is worried about; for all her bravado, Mia is still insecure about many things.  "As for how I met him... that's a bit of a story."
"Okay," Connor finally says.  "As long as you're sure."
Ollie clasps his shoulder.  "I appreciate it."
-
They don't explain anything further to Connor that night, which is probably unfair to him.  But Ollie doesn't really want to make Danny explain more than once, and Mia won't be back until the next day.
Danny sleeps on the couch, and in the morning, he helps Ollie and Connor clean out the spare room.  Mia shows up a little after noon, having gotten a ride back from one of her powered friends, and finds the three of them eating pizza in the living room.
"You better have saved me some," she says, as she tosses her overnight bag on the floor.
"Didn't your friends feed you?" Ollie asks, but he passes her the box of pepperoni.
Mia takes a slice and perches on the back of the couch, right next to Danny.  "Hi!  I'm Mia."  She gives Danny a look that is probably intended to be flirtatious.
Danny looks a little like a deer in the headlights.  "Uh, hi?"
Connor raises an eyebrow at Oliver, and yeah, maybe having a teenage boy staying in the same house as Mia is a bad idea.  Then again, he's closer to her age than the guys she usually hits on.
"This is Danny," Oliver says.  "Danny, Mia is my other kid.  She's also Speedy."
They give Connor and Mia the cliff's notes version on ghosts and the Infinite Realms.  Danny knows a lot more than Ollie does about all of it, but he's much worse at explaining.  He either gets lost on tangents about inconsequential details, or he assumes they have more baseline knowledge than they do.
"I'm sorry," Mia says.  "Can we go back to the part where ghosts exist?"
"We've fought actual demons," Connor says.  "How are ghosts harder to believe?"
"Ollie was never a demon," Mia says with a shrug.  Then she narrows her eyes at Oliver.  "Were you?"
Ollie laughs.  "Definitely not."
-
The next week or so is pretty quiet, by their standards.  The Green Arrows and Speedy go out and handle low-level crime in the city every night, though Phantom stays in at Ollie's suggestion; if the GIW is looking for him, it's better if he lies low.  It's a little worrying how easily he agrees.  It had never been that easy to convince him to do anything when they were training in the Infinite Realms.
Mia, who is better with technology than Ollie is, helps Danny send a message to his friends, letting them know he's safe.
"It's better if I don't give them too many details," Danny says.  "Anyone who's looking for me will be watching them.  All of our devices are encrypted, thanks to Tucker, but I don't want to take any chances."
Danny comes with them to help out at the youth center, even while Ollie tells him that he's welcome to stay home and play video games or whatever.  Danny hasn't said anything about it, and so Ollie hasn't either, but Danny doesn't seem to want to be left alone for long.
Oliver wonders if that's because he's worried about himself or about them.
"So, where do your folks think you are?" Ollie asks at one point.
Danny shrugs.  "Does it really matter?"
"Well, I'd like to know if I'm likely to be charged with kidnapping."  Connor and Mia both shoot him judgmental looks, but it's not like either of them were under any illusions about Ollie's ability to be delicate.  "I mean, I can handle it if I am, but I'd like to be prepared."
"I don't think you have to worry about that," Danny says, and that's the subject closed for the moment.
Mia corners Ollie one afternoon at the youth center, while Danny is playing basketball with some of the kids.  Danny is losing, badly.  Turns out he's incredibly clumsy when he's not using his powers.  The kids don't seem to mind, though, and Danny is a pretty good sport about it.
"We're keeping him, right?" Mia asks.
Oliver gives Mia a level look.  He hasn't noticed anything beyond some flirting on Mia's side, but that doesn't mean much.
"Not like that," Mia says, rolling her eyes.  "I mean, he's cute, but he's kind of dense."
"Funny, I'm pretty sure the same has been said about me," Ollie jokes.
"Whatever he's not telling us... it's got to be pretty bad, right?" Mia says.  "But he seems happy here.  And we won't let anything happen to him."
There's a lot Oliver could say here: Danny has parents, he has friends, he has a home he obviously misses.  By almost every measure, he's far more powerful than Ollie or his kids, and whatever has him scared is quite possibly out of their league.  But the truth is, he feels the way Mia does.
"It's up to him," Oliver finally says.  "But he's welcome to stay as long as he wants to."
-
Green Arrow and Speedy are crouched on a rooftop, taking aim at a couple of drug dealers, when Connor's voice crackles across the comms.
"I've got eyes on some guys in white suits," he says.  "At Fifty-first and Green."
That's halfway across town, though nowhere near the brownstone.  If something goes down in the next few minutes, Connor is going to be on his own.
"Don't engage," Ollie says.  "We're on our way."
They break up the drug deal and make their way toward Connor, who has been updating them on the GIW's movements the whole while.
"I think they're looking for something," Connor says.  "They keep stopping and checking some kind of device-- I think it's a tracker of some kind."
"They're looking for Danny," Mia says.
"How did they even know he's here?" Ollie wonders, but neither Mia nor Connor have any idea.  He makes a split-second decision.  "Mia, head back home and keep an eye on Danny.  Tell him Connor and I are handling it."
Mia is obviously put out by being sent away from the action, but she complies.  Oliver catches up with Connor, perching next to him on the edge of a roof.  Down on the street, a couple of men dressed all in white exit a white van and wave around a couple of handheld electronic devices.  They don't look up, which seems like a mistake from people who ostensibly deal with ghosts.  Convenient for the Green Arrows, though.
Trailing the GIW agents is a piece of cake.  Their all-white getup makes them clearly visible from a distance, and they seem to rely on their equipment rather than their eyes or ears.
Their apparent incompetence makes Oliver get a little cocky, and that's where things go wrong.  He lands on the building closest to the agents, sure that they won't look up and see him-- and he's right.
Unfortunately, their device starts beeping just at that moment, and the two men are suddenly on high alert.  Ollie gets the bad feeling that something about him is what set it off.  They pull out their guns and look around wildly, until one of the geniuses gets the bright idea to look up.  That's when they start shooting wildly at Oliver and Connor.
Their aim isn't great, and whatever kind of energy weapons they're using are only powerful enough to do some superficial damage to the building facade, but Ollie isn't eager to find out how it would feel to get hit by one of those.  Fortunately, he and Connor are both much better shots than these guys.
They shoot the weapons out of the agents' hands first, then Ollie puts an arrow through one guy's hand while Connor puts one through the other guy's foot.
For a minute, it seems like it's going to be that easy.  Then, three more white vans come peeling down the street and a dozen more agents pour out.  Now, it's Oliver and Connor who are pinned down, ducking behind the roof's edge to avoid getting hit by those energy weapons.
Ollie puts an arrow through another guy's shoulder, and is just a smidge too slow getting back out of the way.  The energy blast is going to hit him right in the shoulder.  He braces to take the hit--
A green shield appears in front of him.  The energy blast hits it and dissipates.
For a moment, Ollie thinks it's the work of a Lantern.  And then he sees Phantom, a bright white and glowing target hovering above the street.
The GIW agents have completely disregarded Ollie and Connor, and are frantically shooting at Phantom.  Phantom is dodging the blasts easily; there's no sign of the clumsiness that he's beset with when he's a normal human.  One of the agents gets an arrow through his shoulder, and Ollie spots Mia perched on a roof across the street.
In hindsight, he really should have expected this.  Neither of those kids are the type to sit at home when they could be helping instead.  Even so, he doesn't like it.
With Danny distracting the agents, it's much easier for Ollie, Connor and Mia to hit them.  They may be outnumbered, but the GIW agents are terrible shots.  At some point, the agents seem to realize this, too, and flee back into their vans, limping and bleeding, and drive away.
"Follow them?" Connor asks.
"No," Ollie says.  "I don't think they're going to try anything else tonight."
The four of them make their way back to the brownstone.
"I told you to stay here with Danny," Ollie tells Mia, once they're inside and putting away their gear.
"Did you really think I was going to listen?" Mia asks.
Ollie runs his hands over his face.  "A man can dream."
"Besides," Mia adds, "from where I was standing it seemed like we bailed you two out.  Right, Danny?"
With a flash of light, Danny transforms back to his human form.  "I'm sorry," he says.  "I don't know how they knew I was here."
"I'm not sure they did," Connor says.  "They were looking pretty hard for something before they went after the two of us."
"But they were looking for me specifically," Danny says.
Ollie gives Danny a closer look.  He's clearly nervous.  More than just nervous, he looks like he's on the verge of taking off and running.
"What makes you so sure they're here for you?" Oliver asks.  It's not that he doesn't trust Danny's instincts, but he doesn't feel like he's got the whole picture.
Danny leans against the workbench, almost knocking a set of half-finished arrows to the floor.  "They've been trying to catch Phantom since the beginning," he says.  "I kind of made their lives difficult."
"Good," Connor says, crossing his arms.
"Plus, a lot of Amity Parkers kind of... don't like Phantom?  So the GIW heard about what a menace I was, and that didn't help.  But then you got Superman and Wonder Woman and all of them to talk about how bad the GIW and Anti-Ecto Acts are, and that helped, and-- I had it handled. "
"So what happened?" Mia asks.
"My parents found out.  And I kind of freaked out?  And I flew off, and the GIW caught up to me."  Danny looks around, takes in their stricken expressions, and hurries to add, "Not for long!  But then I headed back home and my parents were telling everyone I was dead.  I didn't know what to do, so I came here."
Oliver's head hurts just thinking about this mess.  He walks across the room and wraps an arm around Danny.  "We'll get this figured out," he promises, though he's not entirely sure how.  "First things first.  What do you want to do about your parents?"
Mia scowls at him-- she's clearly already formed her opinion on Danny's parents.  Ollie can't say he disagrees, but he's made his own share of mistakes in the parenting department.  He hopes that the Fentons might be able to come around, if only because Danny clearly loves them.
"The GIW..." Danny begins.
"I've got a few ideas about them."  Ollie is a little torn between hunting them down himself, pointing Supes or someone in their direction, or letting it leak to the public that these government lackeys chased a kid halfway across the country.  "Do you want to go back to your parents?"
"I don't know," he says. "I miss them, but... I don't know if they'll believe I'm really me. They think all ghosts are evil. But even if they believed me..."  He trails off.
"You can stay here," Mia insists.  "Right, Ollie?"
"Of course he can."  He didn't actually need Mia's prompting for that.  "You're welcome to stick around as long as you want, but you should at least stay until we get the GIW shut down."
Danny looks around the room at the three of them.  Whatever he sees must reassure him because after a long minute, he nods.  "Okay.  At least until then."

You Never Know
Pairing: Spencer Reid x Reader
Word Count: 2k
Warnings: none
Genre: very fluffy
Summary: Spencer wants to ask you on a date
Tumblr media
***
You check your watch as you walk over to your desk. You thought you were gonna be late but it looks like you made it in earlier than you expected. You've barely settled into your chair when Derek pops his head around his computer monitor.
"Did you go?" He asks. You roll your eyes and reach into your bag for the paper bag half rolled up inside. You drop the paper bag on his desk across from yours.
"Yessss! You're the best mamas." Derek says pulling open the bag.
"What's that?" Spencer asks leaning over from his desk, trying to peak into Derek's mysterious sack.
"Dude there's this bakery in y/n's neighborhood that has the best pastries of all time but you have to go first thing in the morning or like as close to it as you can because first of all once they're out of something they're just out of it for the day and secondly these things are better the closer to fresh out the oven that you can get." Derek explains.
"So you send y/n to buy your pastries before work?" Spencer frowns.
"Well-"
"He doesn't send me anywhere. Sometimes I'm just nice enough to pick things up if I have time." You say.
"Correct." Derek points at you.
"Interesting." Spencer nods.
"What's your stance on donuts Spence? Do you even eat them?" You ask.
"I love donuts actually." He tells you.
"Yeah I guess that makes sense, you have quite the sweet tooth." You hum.
"I didn't realize that was obvious."
"Well, it is to me. I can't say if anyone else here would say the same but I noticed." You say.
"Oh." You barely catch his eyebrows scrunch together before he hides behind his monitor to avoid you noticing the heat he can feel rushing to his cheeks. He's probably reading into it too much that you noticed something like that. You take a sip from your coffee and turn your attention to your own computer. It's a paperwork day today it seems, as you all spend the day at your desks. On one hand, you honestly hate having to spend all day working on reports but on the other hand, no news is good news- theoretically not having a case should mean there are no new serial killers but you all know crime doesn't sleep- so there's a quiet understanding that you're just waiting for the next storm.
Still, it's been a busy few weeks so it's nice to not be jetting off to another state where you'd be arguing with local law enforcement while trying to solve a crime before it snowballs. By the time you're leaving work, you're almost caught up on the pile you'd been too busy to get to and that's sort of nice to know as you pull out of the parking lot.
~
You normally don't stop at your local bakery two days in a row but you figure you should buy something for Spencer after the conversation you had yesterday. So, you get up early enough to run by the bakery before heading in today.
"Y/n! Good morning! Same thing as always?" The bakery owner, Salma smiles at you when you walk in.
"Actually not today Salma, I'm buying for someone else this time." You smile. You maybe should've asked what donuts Spencer likes, but you like to think you know enough about his tastes to guess.
"Someone else? Not your work friend?"
"Not the one you know. A different work friend this time." You explain.
"Do you like this work friend too?"
"Salma I don't like Derek." You scoff. "Not the way you're implying anyway. He's just a friend."
"And this new work friend?"
"I don't know Salma I'm just picking up donuts." You say with a smile that you hope doesn't give you away. The look Salma gives you is enough to let you know she sees right through you.
"Alright, what can I get you this time then dear?"
"I'll take those two. I think he'll like those." You say pointing to the donuts you want through the display case.
"This one is a new recipe you know."
"Is it? I'll take one for myself as well then, and next time I'm in I'll let you know what I think." You smile.
"You have to come in soon then, you know how I value your opinion on new releases!" She says as she bags the pastries for you.
"Of course Salma. I'll be back within a couple of days most likely, my work friend will get quite huffy if I'm not." You say handing her a ten and taking the donuts from her.
"And you are sure you don't want to take him anything since you are here?"
"Ah he got his sweets yesterday. He can wait until my next visit. Have a good day Salma." You say leaving the bakery. When you get to work Spencer, Derek, and JJ are already at their desks. You can see Hotch in his office as well as you drop your things at your desk.
"Is that what I think it is? Two days in a row y/n you spoil me." Derek spots the distinctly colored bag from the little bakery before you've even said good morning.
"First of all, good morning. Secondly, these are not for you Morgan."
"Not for me?!" He gasps and you roll your eyes.
"Spence, I brought you breakfast." You say dropping the bag on his desk.
"Really? What'd you bring me?" Spencer blinks.
"Donuts from the bakery near my place."
"Oh, the one Morgan really likes?"
"Yeah! Since we were talking about it yesterday I thought I'd pick something up for you." You say.
"And she's left me to starve in the process." Derek proclaims dramatically.
"Oh cut the theatrics. You got donuts yesterday, you weren't even expecting them." You scoff and Spencer chuckles.
"Well thank you for the donuts y/n." Spencer smiles.
"If you like them I'll bring you some more often."
"You're supposed to bring donuts for me though." Derek huffs.
"And today I brought them for Spencer. You get donuts all the time you'll be fine." You roll your eyes.
"This is favoritism." Derek says.
"No more than me bringing you donuts literally every couple of days." You scoff.
"Are you trying to replace me?"
"Replace you!? Morgan- you do realize it's just a donut, right?"
"It's the principle of the thing!"
"Okay, what if I just- don't ask for her to bring me donuts again?" Spencer asks.
"Don't be ridiculous Spence if you want donuts all you have to do is ask." You say.
"I just feel like-"
"Oh, hush. You're so dramatic. Salma says hello though." You cut Derek off.
"Now you're being mean." He gasps.
"Who is Salma?" Spencer asks.
"She owns the bakery." Derek says.
"She knows you?" Spencer turns to Derek.
"She knows I have a work friend that I buy donuts for. So when I came in this morning and ordered something different I had to explain that they weren't for that work friend."
"Salt. In the wound." Derek says.
"Will you relax if I give you half of my donut? It's a new one so Salma wants feedback anyway."
"It's not the same."
"There is just no pleasing you Derek Morgan." You shake your head.
"It's actually very easy, bring me donuts."
"This conversation has gone on too long I'm going to the kitchen." You say standing up and leaving the bullpen. In the kitchen, you pour yourself water from the Brita pitcher.
"Does Morgan really take this donut thing that seriously?" Spencer's voice startles you as you sip your water and you barely avoid choking on it.
"Jesus you move like a cat. No, but he does take getting on my nerves that seriously." You say.
"Oh- well I just wanted to thank you again, for bringing me donuts."
"You said you like donuts."
"I do! But- since I didn't get around to asking for some, it was a pleasant surprise."
"Well that's what I was going for so mission success." You smile. Spencer returns it with a bright one of his own.
"Actually, can I ask you something?"
"Of course hon. Anything."
"Well I was-"
"Good morning Spencer! Y/n!" Penelope greets happily as she enters the kitchen.
"Hey Pen." You smile at her and turn your attention back to Spencer.
"Good morning Garcia." Spencer nods.
"Oh! Y/n! You know that- task you brought to me last week?" She asks.
"Yes?"
"I got a hit."
"Seriously?"
"Have I ever let you down?" She winks.
"Oh you are truly the best there is! I'll be by your office in a little bit okay?" You tell her.
"Alrighty!" She says going, most likely to her office.
"You were saying?" You prompt Spencer.
"Is that important? Because my thing can totally wait- actually I don't think now's a good time to ask anyway." Spencer shakes his head.
"You're sure? Because the thing with Penelope isn't even work related. It is by no means time sensitive if you need to talk about something." You tell him.
"I'm sure, this can wait, it should wait. Now is a bad time I realize." He says. Your face scrunches a bit in confusion as you regard Spencer for a moment.
"As long as you're sure." You say hesitantly.
"One hundred percent. Go." He nods.
"Alright, but whatever it is, don't put it off too long, okay?"
"Promise." Spencer gives you a small smile and you turn to go to Penelope's office, wondering what could be on his mind. It doesn't come up for the rest of the day. You do your work, he does his, and though you speak throughout the day he at no point brings up the million dollar question he wanted to ask you this morning, and honestly by the time you're going home you've kind of forgotten about it. It's not until you're back at your place that it comes to mind again and that's only when Spencer calls you pretty much as soon as you step through your front door.
"You have insane timing, you know you called me just as I stepped into my apartment?"
"It usually takes you approximately 23 minutes to get home from work so I took a guess at when you'd be off the road based on when you left. Didn't think I'd be that on the nose though." Spencer says.
"Well- I hope everything's alright, seeing as you're calling me and we just left work at the same place. To what do I owe the pleasure?" You ask.
"The question I wanted to ask you this morning. I promised you I wouldn't put it off too long. I actually figured it would be easier for me to ask you this over the phone so I called." Spencer says.
"Oh yes. What ya got for me, sweetness?"
"I know that we're- coworkers and this might make things weird or whatever but I was wondering if you maybe wanted to go on a date with me? You of course don't have to say yes and if you don't I promise not to make things awkward at the office - we can just pretend this never happened but I- couldn't just not at least ask."
"A date?" You blink. Spencer wants to go on a date with you.
"Yes. Only if you want to, no pressure. I really don't want you to feel pressured or anything. It doesn't have to be a thing if it doesn't-"
"Spencer!" You cut him off.
"Yes?"
"If you're going to ask me on a date you have to give me a chance to answer beloved." You smile.
"Oh- right. Sorry."
"I would love to go on a date with you."
"Seriously?"
"Of course." You say. Spencer lets out a relieved sigh that makes you want to giggle.
"Cool." He breathes. "I have to plan. I'll call you once I've sorted everything out. Is that okay?"
"Works for me." You nod even though he can't see you.
"Okay. It'll probably take me a while though so- in case it's too late to call you again tonight, good night."
"Spencer."
"Yes?"
"Don't obsess over making it perfect. I'll enjoy whatever we do as long as we're together. Okay?"
"Okay."
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight." He says softly.
You hang up before you end up dragging out the conversation and also so you can let out a ridiculous squeal that you would never let Spencer hear. You're... giddy. Like a teenager all over again. And you have to force yourself to go about your evening routines as opposed to just waiting for Spencer to call you all night.

Summary: A short fic/drabble in which Ace takes notice of how lenient his dorm leader is with you...
(Pls reblog and leave a comment ❤)
Playing Favourites
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Riddle Rosehearts was doing better. That was something Ace could definitely confirm. Since his overblot, he had been far more lax on the rules, even exempting the more ridiculous ones.
Of course, he was still strict. Rules, while not the be all end all anymore, were still important to him.
Ace knew it was because Riddle cared and wanted Heartslabyul to succeed, but it was annoying when he was often a victim of aforementioned strictness.
What annoyed him even more was that, for all of Riddle's sterness and nagging, it all completely fell apart when it came to you.
Whenever you got into trouble or broke the rules or did something that had him turning red in the face, Riddle's spine turned to jelly.
It was, in Ace's eyes, a blatantly obvious and- dare he say- shameless case of picking favourites. Riddle didn't let you just do whatever you wanted, but he was... softer with you. More lenient.
It was, to be perfectly honest, because he had a huge crush on you. Not that Riddle himself knew this of course. According to the redhead, all he knew was that his heart beats like mad and his brain turns to mush when he's around you for reasons be could not understand.
Ace was going through this in his head as he looked at you, the two of you (plus Deuce and Grim) making your way to class for the morning. He wasn't entirely sure what had his dorm leader so smitten with you. It really was something he never understood.
"Ace!"
Speak of the devil. Ace rolled his eyes as Riddle marched up to Deuce, Grim, you and him.
"Ace for the Queen of Hearts' sake fix your uniform!" The redhead sniped, voice bordering on a snarl.
Yes, he was getting better, but had yet to try out any anger management to curb that vile temper of his.
"Honestly, walking around with such shameless disregard for neatness that that! Disgraceful! And you-"
Riddle's gaze fell on you and almost immediately those harsh steel grey eyes softened.
"Your tie is a mess, prefect." He said carefully, voice dropping from a shout back to normal volume. His cheeks pinkened and he reached out and fixed it. "There. Much better."
Great Seven, seeing him being so painfully whipped made Ace nauseous. It was good that he had a passion for literally anything outside of studying, but really? Being all mushy while he's standing right there? Ew.
Riddle pulled back and cleared his throat before saying his goodbyes and leaving, face getting redder and redder by the second.
"Oh come on, now that's just unfair." Ace groaned once he was out of earshot. Deuce covered his mouth, but Grim didn't bother to stifle his laugh.
"Maybe if you weren't so terrible you would get special treatment too."
"Shut up, cat."
"I'm not a cat!"
"Whatever." Ace shoved his hands and his pockets and scowled. "Never thought having a crush would make him lenient."
You looked at him in confusion and he froze.
"Riddle has a crush on me?"
"Oh shit-"

Can you do a shy reader who is not very good with social cues and agent Whiskey please
oh boy, with agent whiskey who's a serial flirt? this reminds me of that scene from grey's anatomy of mark sloan and cristina yang lol. anyway, hope you enjoy! ❣️
Social Cues
Tumblr media
warnings: flirting. fluff.
pairing: agent whiskey (jack daniels) x female reader
-----
when jack was informed that there will be a new recruit, he wasn't expecting you. you, in all your glory, and jack can't help but stare as you introduce yourself to the others.
like a moth to a flame, jack volunteers every time there's an opening on your case, has lunch with you, offers you a ride home, everything he could think of just so that he can get a (longer) whiff of you.
but jack is slowly losing his mind. he knows he's got game-- he's jack daniels, for god's sake. jack was just poking fun at first, but now he's actually interested in you and wondering why in hell aren't you?
there's a number of times when jack's trying to flirt with you but you just don't get it. it frustrates and intrigues him.
"hey sugar, why don't you join me for dinner tonight and afterwards i can show you just how my whip works, yeah?" jack smirks. "thanks jack, but ginger already showed me the mechanics. maybe just dinner?"
another time;
"oh, jack, you look like a tomato." jack chuckles, he just returned from a mission that had him stand in the sun for hours. he's sunburnt. "yeah? was hopin' you like tomatoes." "yeah! they're good as a sauce or soup."
"maybe try just telling her you're interested?" ginger suggests.
jack looks at her like she's crazy. "now where's the fun in that?"
"well you're clearly not going anywhere with your current approach." she says. "doesn't seem like your regular charm is working."
"it works. usually." he presses. "i just need to figure out what she likes."
jack spends the next few days coming up with the perfect way to approach you and impress you. he now knows what you like and dislike, what you can't tolerate, and what you absolutely love.
it's not until he sees tequila flirting with you, and you blushing that it gets him mad.
"what's going on here?" he casually asks.
"oh, tequila's just telling me a funny story." you giggle.
jack raises his brow. "oh really? 'bout what?"
tequila shrugs. "had to be there for it to be funny, you know? i'll see you later." he sends a wink your way before leaving.
you shake your head with a smile and look at jack. "so, what can i do for you, jack?"
jack's lips are still pursed. he can't believe tequila would stab him in the back like that.
"jack?"
"huh? oh, nothin-" jack clicks his tongue. enough is enough. "no, actually, i do have a question for you."
"shoot." you nod.
jack looks at you deeply and takes a breath. "what is wrong with you?"
"huh??"
"i- i've been trying to flirt with you all week, and you ignore me. you shoot me down, but you're all smiles and sweetness when you do it." he says. "sugar, i don't know if i should be insulted or what."
your eyes are wide as you stare at him. "you've been flirting with me?"
"yeah." jack replies, stating the obvious. "wait, you don't know?"
you shake your head. "i'm.. okay, it's probably my bad," you grimace, "i've been told that i don't pickup social cues very well."
jack groans and sighs. "no kidding."
you can't help the small chuckle escaping you at jack's obvious struggle. "why don't you ask me directly?"
"what?"
"ask me. directly."
jack blinks a few times and straightens himself. "can- no. will you give me the honor of taking you out on a date?"
you smile. "of course, jack. see, that was easy, right?"

9. "If I'm desperate it's all for you." For Nanami?
Last Call {Nanami Kento}
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When the battle in Shibuya reaches its peak, Nanami decides to give you one last call just in case
A/n: so... since the request wasn't really specific, I took it upon myself to figure out the rest of the plot.
Pairing: Nanami x sorcerer!reader
Trigger warnings: mentions of character death, mentions of anxiety and panic that are purely related to the situation,
Tumblr media
Truth be told, neither you nor Nanami had expected the events of Shibuya to go that far. Having Gojo there had once been a comfort but now that he was gone, it was pretty much obvious that it was a life or death situation for many sorcerers and normal people.
But you had faith in both yourself and the rest of the sorcerers that were going to be there despite originally being somewhat conflicted about the participation of the students.
Nanami didn't say anything. You knew how he was, confident that the whole thing would end up in a matter of seconds. Everyone believed the same thing. Until Gojo was sealed.
There was a moment when you thought you should probably call Nanami after the news broke. "Just to hear his voice." You kept repeating to yourself, trying to prevent the panic and anxiety from settling in. He was a grade 1 sorcered after all, of course he would get the short end of the stick.
You nesorcver ended up doing it because you had to deal with some curses.
With your own battle having come to an end and with no further orders from above, you waited, keeping an eye on the rest of the sorcerers, helping whenever you could.
"I'm going in."
His voice startled you, almost making you flinch. You didn't have to turn around to unerstand that he was beyond frustrated. It was clear from the sharp tone in his voice even though Nanami always spoke in such a gentle and soft way to you.
When you turned around, he was standing right behind you, leaving little to no space between the two of you. Under different circumstances he wouldn't have done something like that but you needed that level of comfort and so did he.
"In?" You knew what he meant but the denial had started settling in; that this was far from over. It wasn't about defeating a couple of curses, lifting the veils and hoping to find Gojo hidden under some cardboard boxes.
"The next battles require at least grade 1 sorcerers." He said, looking down at you as you fixed his shirt and hair slightly. His chest was heaving, his own battle with Shigemo having just ended.
"I am grade 1." You quickly responded.
"We're packed."
"Nanami-"
"I have taken Ijichi to a safe place. Join him and wait for reenforcements."
"Excuse me?"
You knew what he was doing. Disclosing information to keep you safe even though one more person would make the situation slightly better. You knew he didn't want to offend your abilities or belittle you. He just wanted you safe but still... it hurt.
"Please, sweetheart, do it for me." Hearing Nanami like that was odd to say the least. He was pleading, begging you to stay safe without even attempting to 'argue'.
"Additional help won't hurt." Nanami turned his head to the side, a desperate attempt to keep his cool. He would fall down on his knees to beg you if he had to.
"Please."
"Instead of being desperate to keep me safe, you should be begging for help. Who knows what else they've got in store?"
"If I am desperate it is all for you, so please. Hide."
"And let everyone else suffer?"
"I'll suffer." He breathed out. "I will suffer if I come back and you're not alive."
Nanami never came back.

chapter one ♫ masterlist
Tumblr media
chapter two ♫♪♩·..·
Eddie woke up to his phone buzzing continuously on his nightstand. Blinking the sleep away from his eyes, he reaches over to grab the device, the blue light far too bright for how early it still was, the digits on his homescreen reading 6.14am. He had three missed calls from his manager and two from his drummer. Eddie sat up on the bed and begrudgingly called his manager back.
''Where the hell are you, Munson?'' his manager, James, heckled.
''Good morning to you too,'' Eddie yawned.
''We had agreed to a meeting 15 minutes ago.''
Oh, Eddie remembered. It would be a lie to say he accidentally forgot to set an alarm. Who holds meetings this early anyway. ''Look man, I overslept. I'm tired and I don't want to meet. You can say whatever you want, right here.''
James huffed and puffed on the other side, before relenting. ''Ed, we need to discuss the future. Tour's about to end and we need to announce something sooner or later.''
Eddie could feel his nostrils flare. ''There is nothing to announce. Every normal artist takes a break after a big tour.''
''Well, you're not exactly normal, Eddie.'' Ouch, Eddie has a quick flashback to his high school days. ''Besides, you signed a contract with management for 60 shows this year. We're only half way there. That means, you need to do more shows later in the year.''
''I'm not doing shit. I'm burnt the fuck out, I need a break.'' Eddie bit back, his other fist clenched on his side.
''That sucks, but this is the business. You can take a break after you fulfill your contract, that was the deal and you know that. I'll have the team send out an announcement that the tour is extended.''
Eddie felt helpless, driven to a corner. He knew the contract he signed and the penalties that come with it if he broke it. That's not something he thought about when he put his signature on the paper - this was his dream, what he was born to do. The more time passed, the more bits and pieces of him went missing. Everybody wanted something, needed something from him. No one thought about what Eddie might need. If he was tired, he was being offered drugs to vamp up his system, get him going again. If he was lonely, there was a line of girls (and guys) outside his dressing room. He indulged in it for a while, but soon that wasn't enough either.
''Whatever, man.'' Eddie hung up the phone and stared at the screen, the light illuminating his sunken eyes, the heavy bags under his eyes. Almost in a haze, Eddie found himself searching up Wayne's number from his contacts and clicking call. The line rang a few times until it clicked. It was silent at first, until Eddie heard the distinctly gruff voice of his uncle, instantly filling him with warmth and the obvious guilt.
''Ed? That you?'' Wayne's voice was low, like he had just woken up which might have been the case, Eddie didn't even think about what time it was in Indiana.
''Y-yeah. Shit, I'm sorry, I-I didn't think about the time difference. Fuck you were probably sleeping, shit, we can talk later, I can-'' Eddie was rambling, embarrassed. It was awkward, he hadn't spoken to his uncle in months.
''Stop, stop. It's fine. Are you all right?'' Wayne interrupted before his nephew ended the call, losing him again.
''Yeah, of course.'' Eddie lied, and Wayne knew that but he didn't want to push too much. ''J-just wanted to check in, I guess.''
''Have you been getting my messages?''
''I have, yeah. Been busy, you know...'' Eddie replied quietly, his voice shaking. He wanted to explode, tell Wayne everything, he would know what to do. He always did. But Eddie wasn't ready to hear the truth yet.
''Are you sure you're alright, son? You don't sound like yourself.''
Eddie panicked. ''Yeah, definitely. Living the dream, eh? Look I, um, have to go. It was good to hear your voice though.''
''Ed, don't hang up-''
''Talk to you soon, bye!'' Eddie hung up the call and let the phone drop from his hands like it had burnt him. He walked over to the minibar and fetched a mini size tequila, downing it in one go, hoping the burn in his throat would distract him from the ache in his heart.

It had been a fairly quiet day at work so far. Robin was currently attending to customers, taking their orders while you were sweeping tables and cleaning up the empty coffee cups, bringing them to the back and loading them into the dishwasher. It was only the two of you at the café today.
Robin joined you in the back, keeping an eye out for the front as well. ''Hey, I have a favor to ask.''
''Shoot,'' you shot back where you were arranging the cups in the machine.
''I was wondering if you could close by yourself today. Cherry's taking me to a concert today. It's a few hours away and we might be late if we don't leave sooner.'' Robin looked at you with pleading eyes. Normally, you wouldn't agree so easily, but considering the lack of business today, you figured it wouldn't be too much hassle. Cherry was Robin's... friend. They've really hit it off since meeting at the bar four days ago and to her credit, she did drag both of your asses home that night, so bonus points for that. It probably won't be too long until one of them gets on with it to make it official. From what you've heard from Robin, Cherry is super fun, adventurous, funny and can't keep her hands to herself, which you could've lived without knowing to be honest.
''Ooh, is this your first proper date?'' you smirk, getting up and leaning against the machine.
Robin's cheeks flush pink. ''Yes. I'm really excited!''
''Hmm. Of course you can go, I can finish up here myself. Next time you have to introduce us though, I mean properly. When I'm not wasted.''
''Thank you! I will!'' Robin pulls you into a crushing hug, smacking a kiss to your forehead.
''What concert are you going to, anyway?'' you ask when she pulls away to gather her things, ripping her apron off.
''I actually don't know, it's some rock or metal concert. Not my style, you know that.''
''Well, have fun!'' you shout after her, watching her leave through the back door. Thankfully it was only an hour 'til closing time, so you made your way back to the front and kept yourself busy until then. At one point, your phone vibrated with a new message in your pocket. You were surprised to see it was from your new friend with a fake name, Kirk.
06.37pm - Kirk ''Hi. How are you?''
06.38pm - Kiwi ''I'm good, thanks. What about you?''
06.38pm - Kirk ''I'm fine. Sorry I've been MIA, it's work.''
06.38pm - Kiwi ''That's okay :) What do you do anyway?''
It takes a couple of minutes for him to reply, making you wonder if you didn't scare him off somehow. That didn't seem like too personal of a question, you thought.
06.42pm - Kirk ''I work in entertainment.''
Well that was vague, that could mean anything.
06.42pm - Kiwi ''Are you a porn star? I've always wanted to meet one, I have so many questions.''
06.43pm - Kirk ''Not that kind of entertainment, sorry. What kind of questions though?''
06.44pm - Kiwi ''I'd rather not say. Do you enjoy what you do, though?''
06.46pm - Kirk ''I used to.''
06.47pm - Kiwi ''What changed?''
06.48pm - Kirk ''A lot of things, some that I wasn't prepared for.''
06.49pm - Kirk ''Listen, I have to go. It's work. I'll text you again in a few hours?''
06.50pm - Kiwi ''Sure.''

Eddie was sitting in a car after the show, going back to the hotel. His hands were still clammy for playing guitar for 1,5 hours and his hair was sticking to his face. His eyes were closed as he focused on the motion of the vehicle moving. It didn't take long until he reached the hotel where he would be staying for tonight and climbed out, dragging his duffel bag over his tense shoulder and sauntered to the front desk.
Filling in his contact info, the brunette behind the counter batting his eyelashes when handing him his room card. ''Room 412, mr. Munson. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask.''
Eddie gave the girl a tight lipped smile and grabbed his key card. ''Thank you.''
As he was standing in the elevator, he thought about how the girl at the front desk was basically offering herself to him yet it made him feel nothing. It was a scary thought. Was he this far gone? He couldn't remember the last time he had sex, or jacked off. The exact same time the elevator dinged when reaching his floor, like a lightbulb going off, Eddie realized that the only positive feelings or thoughts he's had in months, have come from interacting with you.
Reaching his room, Eddie threw his bag next to the door and kicked off his boots. He shrugged off his clothes, a trail of fabrics leading from he door to the bathroom. He took a quick shower and strolled to his bed, plopping onto the fresh sheets butt naked and dug through his jeans for a pack of cigarettes, fumbling around until the found the singular joint he had stuffed in with the regular smokes. He lit the joint and took a slow drag, humming to the familiar tangy taste, letting the effects of the drug engulf his overused brain.
Eddie sat on the bed in complete silence, eyes closed. He could only hear the water dripping from his shower. Opening his eyes, he didn’t have to cast a look down to see that he was hard, stiff cock nestled against the tiny pudge of his stomach. Which was to be expected, getting high always made him horny. It’s why he’s cut back recently too, horny or not, he just wasn’t interested in fucking random people anymore and his fist wasn’t doing it for him either.
Right now, however, he couldn’t ignore the ache in his groin. With a sigh, Eddie dropped on his back, feet anchored to the carpeted floor. Wrapping a tentative fist around himself, he gave a couple tugs to test the waters. It sent shivers down his spine, so he continued. Letting go for a moment to spit into his palm, Eddie pumped himself harder, squeezing at the base then running his thumb over the slit, rubbing his pre-cum over the head. His chest was heaving, eyes shut as sparks of pleasure washed over him. He moaned into the silence as the pressure in his belly became too much too quick and sparks soared into a flame as he came all over his fist and abdomen, thick thighs shaking in the process.

You were now back at your apartment, scanning the cupboards for the forgotten pack of Oreos you know you had somewhere. Cursing under your breath, you settled on a glass of white wine and made your way back to your bathroom where the steaming bubblebath was waiting for you to jump in. You set your glass on the closed toilet seat where you could reach it and dropped your towel to climb in the water. You relaxed your head against the edge, your hair held up high and hummed along to the music you set up from your speaker.
It took about ten minutes before your phone dinged with a new message. At this hour, there was only one person who would be texting you - unless it was Robin with an emergency. But it wasn’t her.
01.12am - Kirk “Hey, you still up?”
01.12am - Kiwi “Yep, I’m taking a bath.”
01.13am - Kirk “This late?”
01.14am - Kiwi “I do it all the time when I don’t work the next day. It’s a routine.”
01.14am - Kirk “That’s cool. How was your day?”
01.14am - Kiwi “Slow, you?”
“01.15am - Kirk “Hectic. What do you do for work, by the way?”
01.15am - Kiwi “I’m a barista at a coffee shop.”
01.15am - Kirk “Make a mean espresso then?”
01.15am - Kiwi “Oh yeah, you should try it.”
The wine was making you a bit more forward than usual. He didn’t seem to mind, though.
01.16am - Kirk “Would love to. Tell me something about yourself.”
01.16am - Kiwi “Like what?”
01.17am - Kirk “Anything.”
You thought about it for a moment, almost dropping your phone in the water as the steamy air made your hands clammy.
01.19am - Kiwi “I’m an Aquarius, my favorite fruit is kiwi (surprising I’m sure) and my chosen past time is readying smutty books. Your turn!”
01.20am - Kirk “I was raised by my uncle and I love reading too, but I’m too scared to ask what smutty means.”
01.20am - Kiwi “Don’t even worry about it. Raised by your uncle, he sounds like a great man.”
01.21am - Kirk “He is. Where do you live?”
01.22am - Kiwi “Not sure I should be telling a stranger.”
01.22am - Kirk “I thought we were friends? :(“
01.23am - Kiwi “Fine, but don’t come kidnapping me. I live in New York.”
01.24am - Kirk “Despite my kidnapper look, I’m more of a wine and dine guy.”
01.25am - Kiwi “I might be into the kidnapper look.”
Oh shit, was that too forward?
01.27am - Kirk “Really? People used to call me horrible names because of my look.”
01.28am - Kiwi “I’m sorry, what did they call you? No pressure.”
01.28am - Kirk “Mostly just freak.”
01.29am - Kiwi “Well, I like freaky, so..”
01.30am - Kirk “I might have to test that.”
You were surprised how easily you fell into flirting with a complete stranger to be honest. You kept switching between talking about random stuff and flirting. You learned that he was kind of a nerd in high school, he used to play some board game you didn’t know and he confessed that his favorite band is Metallica (didn’t take a genius to figure that out). You told him about your childhood cat that went missing one night, how you started your job as a barista and what your favorite cocktail is. You thought about asking him about calling instead, as texting was pretty tiring but decided to leave that for another time.
You came out of your bubble when you noticed the water had gone cold, your wine glass sitting empty on the tile next to the tub. You wished Eddie a good night and promised to text him tomorrow. You quickly dried off, chuckling at your wrinkly fingers and toes and put on a pair of comfortable panties, jumping under the covers. Your eyes were at half mast but the sleep didn’t come yet. You were still thinking about Kirk, rubbing your thighs together simply at the memory of him. This hole thing was so unusual, you knew some things about him now, but had no idea what he looked like or what his real name was. You had a picture in your head, but it was vague. You didn’t imagine his face or his body, but more his aura, his energy. It might sound extremely naïve, but he gave off good vibes and he made you feel nice. As you finally drifted off to sleep, it was to the thoughts of him only.
When you woke up the next morning, the skies were gray and rain was tapping against your windows. That turned your original plans of taking a walk later today upside down. You checked the time on your phone, where it read nearly 11am with a good morning text.
09.16am - Kirk ''Good morning, I hope you have a good day. Let me know what you get up to :)''
You'd text him back later, as the grumbling of your stomach was a more pressing issue at the moment.
Once you were stuffed full of eggs, bacon and a glass of apple juice, you decided to do some fall shopping. You visited your go-to stores and ended your day in your favorite bookstore, sitting in the small café area sipping chamomile tea and taking a bite out of a chocolate croissant. Then you remembered you had an unanswered text.
2.14pm - Kiwi ''Hey, sorry for the late reply. Promise I didn't forget you!''
2.18pm - Kirk ''Good, I was starting to get worried.''
2.19pm - Kiwi ''Why, you miss me already? 😉''
2.20pm - Kirk ''Yes.''
You swallowed thickly at his admission. It was weird that he missed you, you didn't even know each other's names. It was weird that you were unashamedly flirted with him. It was weird, because you didn't mind it all. And it was definitely weird, that your tummy fluttered. You blamed it on the tea.
2.22pm - Kirk ''I'm sorry if that freaked you out. I like talking to you, a lot.''
2.23pm - Kiwi ''Don't apologize, I like talking to you, too. What would you think about calling?''
.•♫•♬•
Eddie knew this would come eventually, he had even thought about it himself. He was prepared for it, yet when the question came, he froze. He was rigid, like he was standing on cracked ice and he might fall in any second. He'd just come back from a radio interview, where he was grilled about any updates he might have. With a sour taste in his mouth and the fakest smile he could muster, he announced more tour dates and listed the name of cities they were going to play.
He'd grown more comfortable with you, texting you took his mind off everything else, it was something he was looking forward to more and more every day. He'd also be a liar if he said that you in a bathtub didn't spawn some inappropriate thoughts in his head. You seemed to enjoy his online company too. But what if you recognized him as soon as you heard his voice? Not that he was so presumptuous to assume everybody knew him or his music. What if you'd go googling his name? There are definitely things on there that he regrets doing, most of them even, and things that weren't true.
He was tempted to hear your voice, though. He chose to be honest.
2.30pm - Kirk ''I'm scared.''
2.30pm - Kiwi ''Of what? We don't have to, if you don't want.''
2.31pm - Kirk ''I do want to, really. I'm just kind of.. known.''
Eddie despised the word 'famous' or any other form of that.
2.32pm - Kiwi ''Are you famous?''
Cringe.
2.33pm - Kirk ''Kind of.''
2.35pm - Kiwi ''Are you scared that I might recognize you?''
2.36pm - Kirk ''Yes, I've done some things I'm not proud of.''
2.37pm - Kiwi ''I don't care about that. I know nothing about the celebrity world, so I probably wouldn't recognize you anyway (no offence).''
Eddie chuckled, he felt a bit better about this now.
2.38pm - Kirk ''None taken.''
2.40pm - Kirk ''Can I call you tonight?''
.•♫•♬•
You were lounging on your bed, legs crossed at the ankles with a new book you'd bought earlier sitting on your lap. You had been reading the same page for the last 15 minutes, your eyes sneaking looks at your phone, face down on the bed, taunting you. Thank God you didn't have to go to work tomorrow either, it was almost 2am.
You were waiting for his call. You figured you still had a few minutes to spare, putting your book down and swinging your legs over the side of your bed. Then the phone rang, your heart almost bursting out of your chest. You turned back and flipped your phone, seeing his fake name across the screen. You picked it up, the device vibrating violently.
''Hello?''

You still take requests???
If so could you write hcs about batboys realizing they're in love 🥰 (with male reader if you could) (if you did before could you share link 🙏) Love you...
IM SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG JT GOT BURIED UNDER DRAFTS IM SORRY 😭😭
THIS IS A NWLNW BLOG!! WOMEN DNI
Dick Grayson
When he realizes hes in love with you
HES DOWN HORRENDOUS
ok he's like probably really bad at hiding his feelings so he ends up like flirting like prolly more often
Bottom of the barrel shit sometimes too
Bro would straight up say "Nice cock" if he had balls
Batfam teases him for how obvious he is
Depending on whether or not youre a superhero he's gonna be protective
Like yea as a civilian hes protective enough. Gotham is very dangerous!!
If you're a superhero too than he'll probably be a bit less protective... or atleast try to be
"Y/n can handle dealing with Poison Ivy himself it'll be fine... I'll go show up just in case."
If you're a villain though he's always the one to arrest you (he lets you go)
He aint the elaborate plan type of guy when it comes to this
So he one night jusy thinks "Yea im def gonna fess to him"
So no matter if youre civilian, hero, or villain he'll confess with a bouquet of flowers under the moonlight with some shit pick up line
Jason Todd
Used to have internalized homophobia but now hes over it... mostly
If youre a villain he'll straight deny his feelings for the longest time
Civilian or hero though? He'll definitely flirt
As in he just shows that he wants to protect you I guess
It honestly took him a while to realize he had feelings for you
Like yeeaaa hes gotten with alot of women and all but like with you? Something is hitting different and he doesn't know what
Roy finds out for him
He found out and teased Jason and Jason is just like "Wait what🧍‍♂️"
So with this new found crush how will Jason approach it?
Hes either really blunt or will completely avoid it all together 💀💀
Like i'm ngl you gon have to make the first move
Tim Drake
He found out he was bisexual and really went "Oh🤨??...OH😲"
Like if you just go to school with him he'll like try to hang out with you more
If you're a hero he's going on patrol more often just to hang around
And if youre a villain💀💀 He definitely tries to keep up the hero facade but like
Fucks it up with getting nervous
"I dont wanna hurt him too bad so he hates me. Wait he's trying to kill me though. I think he is???"
Has definitely lost a few fights with you bc of that 😭😭
Damian found out first (analytical lil shit) and made fun of him
Not in the homophobic way but in the way where his brother has a crush and looks like an idiot
"Drake you look like an utter idiot."
He tries to be smooth (Advice from Dick ofc) and fails
He does the thing where he tries to lean against a wall and fell the other way😭😭
Man just ask him out so he can quit embarrassing himself please
Damian Wayne
Def has internalized homophobia sorry
You know he isnt the best at his feelings so when he's around you he goes a bit crazy-
'I think of Y/n as a friend. Why would I think more of him as more?? Is it normal for me to like boys???? Dear god.'
Asks Alfred about it (One of the batbros prolly heard him though and barge in I'm ngl)
He isn't sure how to go about uh... "Courting you" as he calls it
Like yea he gets the kinda stuff to do for girls he's read many novels on that
But boys??? Hes stumped
He ends up stalking all the couples in his school for an answer
And probably ends up avoiding you :((
Whenever you try to confront him he just says "Its nothing." and leaves
Buuttt one day he ends up spilling everything on accident

For you, what is the season in which you knew that sterek were a real thing? For me it was throughout S3A. Or at least there was something really important going on between them...
I mean, I've been a shipper of them since the first meeting but where I definitely took sterek as my banner was during S3A.
I really love the theme of parallels between Stiles and Jennifer because it basically confirms sterek for us. And there's so much to explore there, I really don't understand why 3A doesn't get enough recognition.
3B is probably everyone's favorite season, I'm pretty sure of that, or a favorite, but 3A needs to be thoroughly analyzed 👁️
The thing is that in 3A there are so many themes that we can explore, like the absurdly obvious parallels between Jennifer and Stiles😩.I'll never really be able to get over the fact that they used the whole Stiles/Derek dynamic with Jennifer/Derek, and that Jennifer seemed to fear Stiles?
Because it's really interesting how Jennifer avoided being around Stiles or prevented Stiles and Derek from being in the same place when she was there.I think there were only two times when Stiles and Derek were in the same room when she was there, the first during Boyd's death and she stayed away, while Stiles went to give his support to Derek and Jennifer was just "shocked"... And the other time was when Derek chose to believe Stiles over her.
I have to organize my thoughts but I really want to talk about this, because I have the energy right now. So sorry if this is a bit messy 😔
Okay, it's pretty much a fact that Jennifer was using this nervous, clumsy demeanor, and she was actually imitating Stiles' entire personality with Derek. But why? Because Jennifer's goal was to bewitch Derek, to have him somehow at her mercy and control, and to do that she had to get under Derek's skin.
And let's get something straight, even if Derek didn't know it and wasn't yet aware of the fact that Stiles is his anchor, Stiles was already under Derek's skin (for whatever reason). So Jennifer had to follow this line, Stiles was already something important to Derek and if she wants to get closer to Derek the best way to do it is to give him something that he is familiar with and something he's already comfortable with and somehow has his guard down.
And what is that? (In case it's not clear; Stiles) she presented herself to Derek with this behavior that he was already familiar with. even the part of the Stls/Drk relationship where they are both always arguing or fighting or Derek is intimidating to Stiles, even that Jennifer imitated. (if you don't believe me you can go see for yourself, from the first meeting between Jennifer and Derek there was this dynamic like the one Drk/stils have)
Okay moving on, the personality theft that Jennifer did to Stiles wasn't enough (haha) so similar parallel events also happened, remember that time where Derek went to Stiles for help? I mean the one in the car, where Derek told Stiles he was going to rip out his throat? Something similar happens between Jennifer and Derek. [Except the throat part, we all know that's something unique and special between Derek and Stiles 😌 that not even a curse can imitate.]
Okay, more things happen, but Jennifer actually already put Derek under some kind of spell, that makes him do whatever she says, like she made him not inform Scott that he was still alive... Why do I mention this? Because this fucking matters, let's say things between them keep moving forward, etc. And Derek is increasingly under her control, or well under her spell, until the day Stiles and Scott tell him that Jennifer is the darach...
And I really want us to think about this, because I don't remember it ever happening that Derek breaks his spell...or well something happens...Which I personally take as the reason why Jennifer didn't want Derek and Stiles to be in the same place while she is, because Stiles is the one who was able to break the influence that she has on Derek.
Let's remember this moment where Stiles asks her where his dad is , and Stiles has his eyes full of tears and revealing sadness, worry and vulnerability. And Jennifer mocks him by saying how the hell would she know that, it's not like she can go out and murder people on her lunch break (or something like that). And she tells Derek that he can't believe them.
Then we have this shot of Derek looking at Scott and Stiles, but it's obvious who Derek has his gaze focused on...And Boom! Right there Derek believes Stiles (and Scott).
And Jennifer stops pretending, etc etc.
For me that was the moment where any influence Jennifer may have had on Derek ended and she knew it.
I really love that season because basically all Jennifer did until the end was play a personality type like Stiles, and Derek fell for that 😩...I can only say that whatever Derek felt for Stiles, it was already tremendously strong.
Well I lost my train of thought, so I'll end here, but please share your thoughts and opinions with me here 🤍 Stiles and Derek really liked each other too much and the fools didn't even realize 😭

Languages (The Others)
★ Based on my language general hcs + the brothers' hcs.
Hi I am sleep deprived. Behold part two of my shitty hc delusions wooooo.
"Caine you missed some" yeah I'm lazy (+ don't know their characterization well enough). If you want to add hcs for the guys I skipped you can but in the meantime I'll go with the basic bitch options
Gentle reminder I make shit up. (◕ᴗ◕✿)
Tumblr media
★ Solomon.
Okay so like I said with Asmo he knows french (and they're both nasty with it)
Basically he rizzed up Asmo in french
Using the dude he was in based out of he also knows English (native probably), Welsh, German, full-ass Demon Tongue and like some latin for magic bs. Idk
(bcs the guy lived nearby those countries in ye old Europe(tm) and something something immortal so why tf not learn languages while at it)
(also of course he learned demon tongue. He wants to rizz up demons and what better way to do that)
He learned demon tongue from random demons and a lot of trial and error
Plus he knows japanese if we are under the pretense that mc is japanese.
So like Solomon tries to use language rizz to get close to you as the other human student in Devildom. So basically using the Asmo trick with you.
... He's kinda painfully obvious with it
(how tf did Asmodeus fall for this shit?)
If you don't speak any of the languages he is fluent in his ass will ABSOLUTELY pick 'em up and be like "hey I want to learn:)"
He uses language as a tool to get what he wants basically
No wonder him and Asmo get along
If you know a language that is not loquar-translatable and he speaks it as well prepare to get secret-talk'd a lot.
Not having people spying your convos is a incredibly valuable asset in Devildom
Especially since you're around the brothers almost 24/7 and they're fucking VIGILANT
Oh also he 100% knows that Asmo fakes being shit at English.
But he's a simp so 乁( •_•  )ㄏ
Tumblr media
★ Luke.
FUNNILY ENOUGH. Two things:
Yes he doesn't need Loquar to communicate with you since he's an angel BUT
For some reason (cough your heritage cough) he keeps messing up in which language speak to you with.
Angel instincts are telling him to just use whatever language with you but the thing is that You Don't Know Whatever Language
Which is odd because that's something he only does with fellow angels????
But you are human so
He doesn't think much of it. He's probably just confused because he's around mean demons! >:T
(His basic subconscious instincts are harder to control since he's low ranking and his Angel brain is going "You = angel = language doesn't matter")
But since he keeps somewhat messing up around you he decides to gesture to hell when talking to you just in case
so you get the gist through his mannerisms in case his words get fucky
His least favorite language ever is Demon Tongue. Even outside of Not Liking Demons he doesn't like how throat-y and intensive it is.
↑ that is a popular Angel opinion btw. Demon Tongue in general is just annoying to use for them and barely any Angels use it outside of in-the-moment communication with Devildom natives.
If you ask him his preferred language he'll say some form of Latin since it's the preferred language of most high ranked angels, as well as Michael's.
But it's actually English.
Tumblr media
★ Simeon.
Since he is was a high rank angel, he doesn't mess up what language speak to you with. He has real good control of stuff like that that comes with experience and age.
(in fact he's very confused why Luke keeps messing up so bad around you but doesn't think much of it since Luke is technically still a fledgling)
I already said this but yeah his preferred language is Archaic Latin (shared it with Lucifer pre-fall).
Ever since Lucifer's fall he switched to plain English and that's the answer he'll give you if you ask.
Only Angel that isn't bothered speaking demon tongue and will do so at his own leisure.
If you try to learn the demon language he is unironically so helpful because he isn't a spiteful bitch like Lucifer and actually teaches you shit without throwing you into the wolves
In fact Simeon is amused as hell over the fact that Lucifer is making you learn the hard stuff first. That is so him.
He's like the good cop of the learning dynamic. Cool substitute teacher vibes
Simeon finds accents to be the cutest thing ever since it is an inherently odd concept for someone fluent in Everything Ever
He has (jokingly) cooed over Luci's accent when he speaks Latin nowadays. Lucifer is not at all amused.
Tumblr media
★ Barbatos.
He knows every language.
... Yeah that's it that's the list
Look at me dead in the eyes and tell me this motherfucker does not speak Sumerian
Ofc he knows every human language ever. And Devildom's. He knows™.
Funniest thing is that he doesn't even need Loquar to talk to you. He just deadass speaks your language with full fluency and you Never Notice
You only notice one day while having a normal convo with him and then Diavolo walks in speaking full deadass gibberish somehow and you're like ????? and Barbatos says "oh apologies I forgot to apply Loquar to you here you go"
Like deadass he would fuck with you so hard when it comes to languages.
Do not go to this man for language advice he will teach you proper stuff in the most incorrect way possible
(Probably! Or probably not! It depends! On what? Who the fuck knows™!)
He's deadass a roulette of proper, legitimate advice or literal shitposting
He wrote the Voynich manuscript. It was a housekeeping journal he was keeping in a dead Devildom idiom that ended up in the human realm by accident
He didn't retrieve it solely because seeing humans go insane over it was funny as hell and he has a secondary copy anyway. That book has nothing relevant in it besides like two recipes.
He did go to check back on it once to write down a meat pie recipe Diavolo's father liked bcs he didn't have on the copy
Barbatos is the definition of "wtf what language was that" "yes."
He and Lucifer have random days where they just pick a language to speak to each other. It helps to maintain fluency.
Barbatos jumpscared Satan once by going, full ass unprompted mid convo, "Oh right you speak Tagalog."
He knows what languages everyone speaks like a white girl knows zodiac charts
Tumblr media
★ Diavolo.
Ok so he probably knows English since it is Solomon's native and humanity's current universal(ish) language
Like of course he wants to communicate with humans! Of course he'll learn their language!!!
Unlike Barbatos and Lucifer who are very impressive Polyglots he's realistic in his language stuff. The more down-to-earth of the three
His English is hilarious
Not particularly because he says things wrong but his accent and tone just makes it sound incredibly funny
He sounds exactly like a dubbed-over superhero doing a friendship monologue At All Times
He is so earnest with it that you don't have the heart to explain why you're laughing
Anyhow fun fact:
Loquar for some reason translates what he says in Demon Tongue the most literal ass sense possible for literally no reason
Which is odd(tm) but mostly just funny as all hell
Everyone has been troubleshooting whatever the fuck happens to Loquar Ad Vos with Diavolo but no idea so far.
The phrase "have you tried unpapplying it and applying it again" has been uttered more than once unironically
The working theory is that since Diavolo is royalty and Loquar Ad Vos was created with the sampling of normal demons it works wrong on him since there's something different(tm)
Reverse engineering the Loquar spell to work on him has been in the works for a while. Loquar is drafted like shit since it is an old human-oriented spell (Basically like spaghetti code needing to be rewritten), so it proves a bit troublesome.
You later find that Diavolo speaks in a very uniquely pronounced manner
↑ Think of it like Devildom royalty has a very distinctive Way Of Speaking. Like an accent but also not. Probably magic related in some way(?)
"do you want to consume nourishment" ← Diavolo's ass getting mistranslated
So yeah Barbatos or Lucifer kinda have to lend a hand when you two communicate.
If you're English speaking then you two kinda communicate that way sometimes. You reassure him on his accent and help him along if he gets anything wrong.
(he's fluent-ish in Japanese as well if we are running in the assumption that the reason why MC's canonically japanese is because they needed someone who A) speaks a language translatable by Loquar Ad Vos B) is also a language Diavolo knows and C) is not of the same social background as Solomon)
He will get so unapologetically excited when you start learning demon tongue. You two can!!! Communicate even more!!!!!
Demons will be genuinely mortified if you gain Diavolo's accent while speaking demon tongue. Why does this random ass human speak like royalty ತ_ತ
Very (un)subtle way to tell everyone that you're besties/partner/whatever of the literal prince of Devildom.
Something something dragon being possessive something

Could you do a Mataka x reader x slight creepy Shindo. The reader is Arajins sister that just got discharged from the hospital and is cleared to go to school. (They are part of the reason their family moved back) They’ve had a childhood crush on Mataka, but they met Shindo in a book store. He thinks winning Arajin is through his sister, or threaten them.
This got my brain buzzing with ideas! Here's the first part, I'll probably break it down to 3 parts total!
A Chance Meeting and a Declaration of Protection?!
Summary: You've come back to your old hometown for a fresh start and a shot at a normal life; too bad being reunited with your childhood crush and attracting the attention of an unhinged gang leader is proving a detriment to your health in more ways than one! wc: 2.3 A/N: This takes place in an AU without honki people/magic, and tw for future chapters for Shindo being a creep/yandere coded because...I mean come on. Makatara/f!Reader/Shindo (mostly one sided though)
“Come on, just a little more…”
Standing on your tiptoes, you stretch your arm as high as you can, but the novel atop the highest shelf is still out of reach.
“Ugh, I should have asked Macchan to come and help me.”
“My, my, what do we have here?”
You feel a presence behind you before you hear their voice; at first you had assumed Arajin had returned to the bookstore to walk you home. Your mother had made him your personal escort of sorts and your brother had obeyed, walking you to and from the few places you felt well enough to explore.
After spending so much time in a hospital bed, being outside was almost overwhelming, but you also felt restless. When you found out your favorite bookstore was still open after all these years, you could have cried. Now as you stand on somewhat wobbly legs, vision a touch fuzzy, the last thing you need is stress. Where was Arajin? And who was this strange man smirking at you like you were some amusing joke?
“You must realize the owner has a ladder for this exact reason.”
“Huh?”
He taps the spine of the book, easily reaching over your head. “This book, you want it, yes?”
“Oh, yes.” You nod, somewhat hesitantly; your eyes scan the aisle, but it would seem there’s no one else around.  Briefly, your eyes linger on his braided hair and light eyes; he wasn’t wearing a school uniform, just a plain, gray sweatshirt and matching pants. You were certain he was around your age though.
“What are you staring at?”
“Oh sorry, I was thinking, um, did you want the book?” You smile apologetically, hoping your embarrassment wasn’t obvious. “I didn’t mean to be in the way.”
“No, no, I was amused by you hopping like a bunny.”
Your smile falls. “Uh, I guess I’ll just go on and ask for assistance then-”
But the stranger takes the book, holds it up over your head with a sickly sweet smile.
“I wouldn’t leave a lady struggling. Here, take it.”
“Oh, thank you.”
But before you can take the book, he holds it up even higher. You frown, confused; is he just messing with you?
“I thought you were giving me the book?”
“Isn’t it a bit rude to ask for favors from a stranger?” He asks innocently. “My name is Shindo  Akutaro; might I ask for your name?”
“Tomoshibi.” You say curtly. “May I please have that book, Shindo-san?”
“I suppose.”
The book is unceremoniously dropped and you fail to catch it; the novel lands on the hard tiled floor and you slowly kneel to pick it up. Bending and stooping too quickly makes you light headed and your limbs feel like noodles at the least bit of sudden motion.
“You don’t need to kneel before me for such a small favor.”
Shindo’s smile widens until you see his canines; he looks down at you over the rim of his glasses, eyes shining with an odd sort of glee, as though you’re doing something very silly and he has to hold back laughter. You straighten up, standing up too quickly; for a second, you teeter on unsteady feet and your hand grabs the shelf for support.
“You look very pale; are you sick? In that case, maybe you ought to be home, not hopping around.”
“I spent enough time cooped up.” You rub your forehead gently with your fingers, holding the book to your chest. “I should be able to manage shopping for a book.”
It’s more than your desire to purchase a new novel though; this book store is a place of comfort. You used to spend hours either browsing the selection or sitting in the cafe area to read the newest addition to your collection. It wasn’t like you could run around with Arajin and Matakara, as badly as you wanted to. Even now, you’ve only just begun to feel what you assume for others is something like “normal”.
“It’s not funny.”
Shindo blinks, looking vaguely perturbed as you stare up at him defiantly; suddenly, you feel very irritated. Whether it’s due to his prior teasing or your own frustration, you’re not sure.
“Thanks, I suppose, for getting the book.” You say quietly. “But I don’t appreciate a perfect stranger laughing at me. I never asked to be sick and I didn’t ask for your help. Excuse me, but my brother will be here soon to take me home and I need to go buy this.”
With a slight nod, you scurry away to the register on the other side of the store; as he hands you the receipt and your new book, a soft chime signals someone has entered the store. You turn around, met with the sight of a disgruntled Arajin and-
“Macchan?” You almost drop your bag and wallet. “What are you doing here?”
“I bumped into Ara-chan, so I thought I’d tag along.” Matakara waves with a sunny smile. “You’re doing okay? You haven’t had to go back to the hospital or anything?”
“I told you she was fine.” Arajin walks over to you and takes your hand. “Come on, let’s get going,”
“You’re in a hurry for someone who was late to get me.”
“Mom asked me to pick up a few things for dinner.” Arajin explains with a sigh, leading you to the sliding doors, Matakara following behind dutifully. “I figured you’d want more time anyway; you could have called.”
“You could have called if you were going to be gone later.” You grumble, slipping your hand from his grasp. “Arajin, slow down, I can’t walk that fast.”
“Do you want me to take that?” Matakara comes to your side. “Here, let me carry your bag. You look kinda pale.”
“So I’ve heard.” You sigh; of course he had to come and see you winded from the most menial task. “Thanks Macchan, but I got it.”
“Come on, we need to get home.” Arajin gives Matakara a look. “Don’t you have to get going too?”
“I can stay.” Matakara turns to you. “You don’t mind, do you? I feel like we haven’t had a chance to catch up since you moved back. It’s been too long.”
“No kidding; honestly I almost didn’t recognize you when you came to visit.” You chuckle and pat the top of Matakara’s head. “I used to be taller than you.”
“Um, yeah.”
Matakara’s face flushes a bit; it’s nice to see he hasn’t changed too much from the bashful sweetheart you remember. Now, if only you had changed as much; you both envy and admire your old friend’s strong build.
“Don’t strain yourself too much tomorrow.” Arajin looks over his shoulder at you; he’s still looking a bit grumpy, but his eyes soften as they meet yours. “My class is basically across the hall from you and the teacher’s already know what to expect.”
“I know, I’ll be okay!”
You sound more confident than you feel; from what Arajin has said about his time attending the academy, the place sounds less like an institution of education and more a playground for delinquents. Still, you have limited options and if you have to attend a school in the area, you feel better knowing at least two people already.
“I’m in the same class as Ara-chan; you can come to me if there’s a problem. If you want to.” Matakara says with an oddly serious expression. “I’ll be there, so you don’t have to worry about anything.”
“I’m not worried.” You lie, your smile feeling like a mask stretched over your face. “Thank you, Macchan. I don’t want to bother you though, you and Arajin have your own lives. I’m sure I’ll be totally fine. I’m so pitiful, even bullies don’t want to bug me.”
“No you’re not.” Matakara frowns. “You’re not pitiful, you're strong. I always thought so. You should too.”
You’re not sure how to respond; Arajin makes a choking sound deep from his throat and puts his hands over his ears.
“Ugh, I can not listen to this! You two walk back together, I’m going on ahead.”
“Huh?!”
“Arajin!” You gap as your brother stalks off down the sidewalk without a glance back at you. “That little shit! He’s lucky I can’t chase him down. Ugh, sorry Macchan, he’s being such a brat.”
“No, it’s okay.”
“It is not.” You huff, crossing your arms, glaring at the dot that’s now Arajin’s head. “He’s been on edge ever since we came back. I get him being angry with me, but you haven’t done anything.”
“Why would Ara-chan be angry with you?”
“Not me exactly, just,” You unfold your arms and they hang at your sides. “A big reason we came back was for my treatment. Mom’s settled in fine but Arajin…it’s not my place to speak for him, but I know being here is frustrating.”
“But it’s not your fault you’re sick.”
“Still, I think…he’d never say so, but I think he resents me. Arajin always has to deal with mom putting me first because of my poor health.”
Arajin never says it, but you can tell he gets frustrated; he never asked for a sister who constantly needed to be minded and tended to. Even now as you’ve gotten older, he’s still being pushed into the role of caretaker. You don’t want him to feel like he’s responsible for how you do when you go back to attending in person classes.
“He brings a lot of it on himself, but I know he worries about me. Anyway, I don’t want to burden him or you.” You muster up a genuine smile. “I’m going to take it one day at a time, but I can do this. I have to at least try; I can’t let it all be for nothing.”
“You,” Matakara pauses, gazing at you with wide eyes and parted lips. “You haven’t changed at all.”
You can’t help snort. “Seriously? I know I said I wanted to toughen up and all, but-”
“You’ve gotten even cooler.”
Maybe it’s a good thing Arajin decided to leave the two of you in the dust; if he saw the way Matakara was staring at you, you might have had Arajin ready to drag you away. Before you can say anything, Matakara gently takes the bag from your loosened grip.
“For the record, I never thought looking after you was a burden. I want you to ask me for help. Matakara confesses shyly. “I’m stronger now.”
“I noticed.” Your eyes flicker to his arms; his muscles are basically straining against the thin cotton of his worn t-shirt. “Are you sure? I really don’t have trouble carrying something that small.”
“I want to!” Matakara insists; he almost whines and your heart skips a beat as he pouts down at you. “I could even carry you if you needed me to.”
“Okay, okay, I got it.” At this point the thought of your crush carrying you around in his absurdly strong arms is making you so lightheaded, you might end up needing to be hauled home anyway. On the bright side, you doubt you’re looking pallid; heat radiates from your face as Matakara walks with you. He walks in time with your steps; if you asked, he would probably take your hand to lead you home.
“I bet you’re really popular.” You nudge his shoulder. “Arajin told me you’re like, a class leader or something?”
“He did?”
“Uh huh. But don’t tell him I told you.” You put a finger to your lips. “If you do, I’ll tell him about how you cried after stealing one of my horror novels.”
“I didn’t know it was a scary book! I thought it was about a magic doll.”
“To be fair, it was brought to life with occult magic. I still can’t believe you threw out my baby doll.”
“...I thought it would come to life and haunt you.”
“That’s right, I was so mad!” You recall with a giggle. “Do dolls still freak you out?”
“No...”
“Aw,” You feel a bit guilty at the kicked puppy dog look on Matakara’s face. “I’m sorry for teasing you.”
Matakara remains silent for a few seconds and you feel anxious: was that too far? It had been a long time since the two of you were able to talk like this. Perhaps you were getting ahead of yourself, acting so familiar with him.
“Matakara? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hassle you. I won’t actually tell Arajin about the doll thing.”
“It’s not that.”
Matakara fidgets with the handle of the shopping bag; the sun is setting now. The soft golden light makes his eyes almost sparkle; as if getting enough oxygen wasn’t already a concern. Now you had to have your breath stolen by the warm gaze holding your attention captive.
“It’s just…I don’t want you to think of me that way. I’m not that weak cry baby anymore.”
“I never thought you were.” You tell him earnestly. “I shouldn’t have teased you.”
“You really don’t get it.” Matakara’s voice lowers. “Even though you were so sick, you looked out for me. Now I want to do that for you. I want you to see me as someone strong you can depend on.”
“Macchan, you don’t have to look out for me: that’s not your responsibility.”
“Do I…look different to you?”
“What?”
Matakara inches a bit closer, as if he's afraid to startle you, before taking yours hands in his own. You can feel callouses on his warm palms are warm; his cheeks are pink and his stare is hard with determination. Abruptly, you're reminded of that tenderhearted boy who would rush to your side every time you so much as hinted at being fatigued.
"Do you trust me?"
"O-of course." You study his urgent gaze warily. "I always have."
“I could-no. I will protect you. If anyone tries to bother you tomorrow, you come straight to me. I’ll deal with them. I'll be there; as long as you can trust in that, I can only get stronger." Matakara squeezes your hands gently. "Believe in me and I'll protect you with that strength."
You’re taken aback; you’ve never heard Matakara speak this way to you or at all. Not that you don’t appreciate it; on the contrary, your tummy is doing somersaults. With that said, you can’t help wondering: just how much did your friend change these past few years? And what exactly is he expecting he’ll need to protect you from?

Ken flirts (albeit not very successfully) with a officer gn!Reader
Tumblr media
Gif by jokerous
A/n: I want to say in advance that if I don't respond to your replies, it's only because this is my side blog and I still haven't figured out how to make it the main blog ;( and English is still my second language so be sure to let me know about my mistakes!
Summary: Ken shows up at the police station again, but this time he has a much more complicated reason for being there;
Song I recommended: Santa Monica by Everclear (although it's not really suitable for fanfic, the song and lyrics were just made for Ken);
Word count: 1,107 words;
Hope you like it!
You've interrogated all sorts of weirdos during your long career as a police investigator. But such a case was certainly the first of its kind. And probably the only one. In front of you sat a not at all embarrassed man in the uniform of a horse rider, that is, in a ridiculous oval hat, a black suit, only horse was. What was the main problem. After all, walking in such clothes in public places and even without a horse is not to everyone's liking. In addition, if it is stolen. Although most of the townspeople have already managed to get used to it since this same man and his companion appeared here for the first time. However, this case was different, as today he came alone. That's why they didn't let him home right away, but sent you to deal with it.
"So Mr. Ken…" You looked at the man who wasn't the least bit concerned about being in the police station, not knowing what you were going to do with him.
"Oh yeah, it's me."
"Um, why did you steal that suit?" You mentally slapped yourself on the forehead for asking such a stupid and obvious question. It's like asking a criminal why he committed a crime... Damn.
Ken was smiling brightly, only making you despair even more. "You see, I just don't have anything to pay yet… But I'll pay it all back very soon! Yes…" But you wouldn't tell that from his unsure and guilty face.
"I'm sorry, mister, but in our town promises aren't enough." For some reason it was difficult for you to say this. Maybe you just couldn't resist the person's naive sincerity in front of you.
"Okay, I'll give you one last warning in hopes that I won't find you in a stolen suit in the middle of a police station again, okay?" Ken shook his head.
"Well, officer, I promise, it won't happen again!"
"Eh, I hope so…"
To tell the truth, this was not the first such "last" warning, but... But sometimes it is worth making exceptions to the rules and protocols for the sake of a good cause.
"Um, officer?" You were about to walk out of the interrogation room and just pretend you didn't see the criminal leaving the police station without punishment. But Ken stopped you with his strangely needy look. "Actually, I just wanted to meet you again."
You were once again surprised by the frankness of this man. And ignorance.
"You could just walk in here, you don't have to commit a robbery."
"Oh."
For a moment you stared into each other's eyes in inexplicable silence until you remembered in time that Ken was a little out of this world. But you didn't know yet whether in a physical or mental sense.
Ken's expression lost its former fervor for a moment, causing you to feel a sharp pang of guilt. So you decided to somehow cheer him up.
"Anyway, I'm very flattered that you went through such troubles for me." You pointed out Ken's appearance, and he immediately melted with pride. "Good job."
You chuckled amicably, but immediately after that you suddenly remembered that you were still wearing your police badge and had some responsibilities, so you improved to add:
"But anyway, don't do that again!"
"Haha, not going to anymore, don't worry officer."
And silence reigned again, although this time it was filled with your mutual smiles. Incredible, but even criminals can be cute.
Ken began to glare at you, to which you could only respond with confusion. This careful look confused you a little, so you decided to find out the reason for it directly.
"Is something wrong Ken?" Ken squinted and something in his sly expression seemed to warn you of danger...
"You are beautiful."
You blinked, slightly not expecting such an answer to the question about feelings.
"Um, thanks… You're in good shape too." Ken assumed a very strange pose that you could describe as flirtatious if he wasn't the weird stranger. After all, how could he flirt with you? It seemed as if the roles of the policeman and the culprit were somehow unfairly reversed between you...
Ken folded his arms on the table, looking at you with all possible attention. Because of which you imperceptibly shuddered. A very strange feeling welled up as you stared into those crystal blue eyes in return. And Ken's smile might seem innocent and naive, but as an experienced police officer you couldn't afford to be fooled by that…
Your palms also rested safely on the table, and the undisguised slyness with which Ken was looking at them could not be ignored... After that, Ken lightly touched his soft fingers to yours, as if by accident, but you could definitely tell from his satisfied face that this was exactly what he intended. But you have not removed your hands in any way. Even if these touches did not seem only friendly.
Ken's whole look (minus the costume ) was like... Head over heels in love? You tried to drive away these insolent thoughts, but the affectionate look fixed on you as if he was completely devoted only to you, the barely noticeable movements of his fingers on your palms and the atmosphere of privacy created by him did not give you peace. And when did everything get so fast?
"You know, I've always wanted to try on an officer's uniform, although I'm pretty sure it looks better on you."
Well, even if it was a sincere and deliberate flirtation, it was so incredibly unfussy and simple that it couldn't help but be touching. If everyone in Ken's world is so nice and unassuming, then this place is clearly Heaven.
"Hmm, thanks again and… And I'm also pretty sure that the uniform will fit you."
You didn't know what Ken was playing, but you decided to keep up with him. It seems that a real battle was brewing here...
"Are you busy tonight?"
It confused you a little. Somehow unexpectedly, too sharply and in general, such purely friendly invitations are not made with such a flirtatious tone!..
"No. Not at all. Do you want to meet?..."
But your tongue had already given away all your innermost thoughts before you had time to really think them through.
Ken looked as if he had already expected a refusal, but when he heard the unequivocal agreement... Well, sparks flew from him. Literally. However, you were sure that this only seemed to you.
"So, at the beach today?"
"I will wait for you!"

i love it when you write for mat!!! can you do 10 and 11 from the drunken love confessions list please? so happy you're back by the way, and hope you're doing well!!!!!!!!!!
10.) “I love you. But that’s a secret. So I won’t tell you about it.” & 11.) “You’re drunk.” “Yes. And hopelessly in love with you.” with Mathew Barzal
Tumblr media
"Oh Jesus," you hear Tyson mutter, and you look up briefly from the grill at his tone.
"What is it Josty?" You ask, casting your glance back down to the grill to flip the burgers.
"Mat's wasted." He says, eyes focused on where Mat's stationed a few feet away at the beer pong table with the rest of your friends. You try to ignore how good he looks, but fail miserably.
He's got on a black hat, position backwards on his head, black swim trunks, and he's shirtless and sweaty, body glistening ridiculously in the light of the summer sunset.
You tear your eyes away, trying to direct your focus on not burning the burgers in front of you. "He's just having fun," you say.
Unbeknownst to you, Tyson and his little sister, Kacey, exchange knowing looks from where they're standing next to you, Kacey mixing drinks at the outdoor bar and Tyson setting up the rest of the food on the counter next to you.
You'd been best friends with Kacey since you were nine, had grown up alongside the Jost's and been coming to their lake house in Kelowna for the summer for the last ten years, and they both knew you like the back of their hand.
So they obviously knew you'd been madly in love with Mat ever since Tyson introduced you all those summers ago now, even if you'd never managed to admit it out loud to any of them.
They saw how you'd go quiet whenever he entered the room, like you needed a second to be able to accept the fact that he was even in your space before you pretended like nothing was wrong. How when Mat was being a little shit or a little annoying, you always vouched for him, insisting he wasn't doing anything wrong. Or like how whenever he spoke to you, or how you spoke to him, you had that look in your eye that said "How is he even real?"
"I'll take over the grill," Tyson says, already scooting you out of the way and reaching for the spatula in your hand. "You should probably get Mat inside. He looks like he's one beer away from puking all over the place."
You frown a little, glancing between Mat and Josty. You've seen Mat when he's wasted, and while he's definitely inebriated, he's not that bad right now.
Still, you listen to Tyson, wiping your hand on a dish towel before heading over to the beer pong table.
The game ends just as you get there, and apparently Mat had managed to win, because the next thing you know he's cheering, arms in the air, and then bringing them down to wrap you in a tight hug when you make it to his side.
"Hell yeah!" He exclaims, swinging you around a little, and everyone laughs, including you, amused by Mat and his antics.
"Look at you go," you say, then tug on one of the arms he has wrapped around your shoulder. "Hey, I need some help bringing out a case of water, think you can manage?"
Mat nods, dropping his hands and following you as you start to head inside.
Just as you're about to pass Tyson and Kacey on your way in, Mat reaches out, grabbing onto the scrunchie around your wrist and hooking his finger inside. Tyson and Kacey exchange looks with wide eyes behind your back, completely missing the way your cheeks heat up.
You lead Mat into the kitchen and to the pantry where the extra cases of water are, and grab one from the case for him.
"Here," you start to say, turning around, but you stumble back a little when you find Mat completely in your space, him trying to wiggle his hand inside your scrunchie so it practically cuffs you together.
You laugh nervously, "What are you up to?"
"Trying to get you to hold my hand." He says, like it's obvious.
Your brain short circuits, and you nearly drop the water bottle. "W-what?"
He's still staring down at your hands, where they both rest secured by your scrunchie, and he smiles a little when he turns his wrist, brushing your palms together.
"Mat?" You ask, but he doesn't look at you.
"I have a secret, you know." Is all he says in response.
"Are you supposed to share secrets when you're drunk?"
He scoffs a little. "Course you can."
"Well..." you start, a little unsure of how to proceed. "What's your secret?"
“I love you. But that’s a secret. So I won’t tell you about it.”
Your entire world screeches to a halt, and this time, you do drop the water bottle, both of you ignoring it as it tumbles to the floor and rolls away a little.
"You...what?" You stutter out. "You’re drunk."
"Yes. And hopelessly in love with you." He says, linking your hands together. Finally, he looks at you then, a small smile on his face. "There, now we're holding hands."
You can't seem to find the words to speak, too stunned to be able to function. There's no way he's telling the truth, absolutely none.
Slowly and gently, you pull the scrunchie off of your wrists, untangling your hands so you can grab the water bottle from the floor. When you look back at Mat, he's frowning a little, but you ignore it, holding the water bottle out to him. "Here, you should drink some of this before we bring the rest out."
He stares at your outstretched hand for a second, then smiles, grabbing the bottle and taking a swig, the previous moment seemingly forgotten.
And for a second, you don't know what's worse. The fact that he dropped it so quickly, or that you can't tell whether or not he was actually telling the truth.

Who do you think is the worst yandere to the best?
Now that is an interesting question! Though I'll be answering in terms of the Batfam since- well, most of my posts have been about them so far! Hope you don't mind!
Honestly, I believe it depends on the situation and what someone deems as 'bad' or just 'manageable.' Since different people have different tolerances to different things and such. Though without going on a more lengthy ramble, I'll try to answer the question to the best of my ability via 'basic' behaviors.
For manipulation/general manipulative behavior, the list would probably go something like:
Alfred, Dick, Bruce, Tim, Damian, Jason, Cass, Babs, and Steph
All the members of the Batfam can definitely have their moments of manipulation, with a good few opting to instead manipulate the environment/surroundings of their Darling/Fixation above all else. Though I easily view Alfred as the worst, and even if some places can be mixed and swaped out in the list, I don't really see Steph as a strong manipulative type. (Some people on the list do kind of share spots, though. Since I see Dick and Bruce on the same level when it comes to manipulation, and maybe even Babs and Cass as well. (Though I'm unsure about that, in all honesty.))
For kidnapping? Maybe something like:
Cass, Jason, Bruce, Tim, Dick, Damian, Steph, Babs, and Alfred.
Cass and Jason are easily the worst affendors, and will kidnap their Darling in a heartbeat, especially if they feel like said Darling is in danger. The rest of the placements is overall because of time, but also a little bit of how they'd treat their Darling once kidnapped. Babs and Alfred are only so low because they prefer a more hands-off approach, but Alfred is more adamant on sticking to it.
Overall behavior? Oof, that definitely comes down to tolerance, and what one would view as bad or manageable. Since they all are pretty bad in some cases, but pretty good in others. For a yandere, anyway.
When it comes to being clingy Dick, Cass, and Damian are pretty bad, but Babs and Alfred are pretty good about it. Not to mention that Alfred's version of being clingy is more hands-off. Though Jason and Steph definitely have their moments, and maybe depending on the situation- one could be worse than the other. Bruce can fluctuate, but mostly just has his moments.
Possessiveness? That's where it can get a little interesting. Since the list would be:
Alfred, Damian, Dick, Jason, Cass, Bruce, Tim, Babs, and Steph.
Though don't let this list fool you! The lowest level of possessiveness for these guys is still pretty high, I'd say. Even if some are more outwardly intense about how possessive they are and can be, if there were a way to measure it even without seeing the entire picture, Alfred would definitely have the highest number. No questions asked.
Obsessive-ness? I think this could be a little more obvious.
Alfred, Tim, Bruce, Dick, Jason, Damian, Steph, Cass and Babs.
Tim just has a constant need to know everything about his darling, while Alfred already knows. Bruce, Dick, and Jason I can kind of see being on a similar level but to certain degrees- and honestly depending on situations and such Dick and Jason might switch places. Steph's obsession comes mostly out of impulse, strangely enough, and while Cass does keep in mind every little thing she learns about her darling, I feel like she'd like to know about it first hand and wouldn't go super crazy over it. For Babs, she also kind of already knows some things about her Darling, and maybe even make a file, but generally keeps things in mind to essentially weaponize them. Only really focusing and obsessing over what she loves about her darling, but even then she's much better about it when compared to the others.
Again, these are more general as they can shift and change depending on the situation, but they're all pretty bad. What's considered 'lesser'/'better' in the Batfam is still rather high, and that is something to keep in mind. Since even if someone is at the bottom of a list, doesn't necessarily mean that they rarely experience/indulge/do whatever the list is for.
Honestly to really answer the question, I don't know who I would personally consider the 'best', since they are all god awful in their own ways. When it comes to the Batfam in particular, I think they're all just a little too 'intense' or messed up to be 'the best' compared to the others. They all have their moments in certain situations where they are the worst, despite being the best in some other situations.
In other words, I'm overthinking it and can't un-overthink it. They're all just bad, and again, where one might seem like the best, they could be the worst and vice versa depending on certain factors. I feel like there really is no "Best" for the Batfam, but if I absolutely had to put a name down because my life depended on it or something, I'd say Damian? Only while he's young, however.
He's a menace and isn't afraid to cause harm, don't get me wrong, I'm fully aware of how he is. But, in overall terms of behavior and how potentially manageable he could be? He'd be the easiest one to handle. In my opinion.
Though if he's grown up? Eh- that becomes more debatable.
Though who I'd consider the absolute worst? Alfred. Just, Alfred.
It isn't even how obsessive and possessive he truly is, along with how manipulative he will and can be. But rather how none of it is obvious.
As a yandere or darling you'll never be able to tell just how bad Alfred actually is. Since he rarely ever shows it, and even if he does have his impulses- he knows how to control himself. He's raised Bruce and has helped raise the Batfamily as a whole. Of course he knows how to control himself, of course he knows how to do all of these things. Not to mention the life he's lived before becoming a Butler for the Wayne's.
Alfred is so good that even if his darling finds out, they're going to doubt themselves. They won't even believe it and that will just make it easier for Alfred to manipulate them, because that is Alfred's specialty when it comes to this. Subtly.
He might be blunt and sassy with some of the things he says, but is very subtle with the seeds he plants, and how he plants them.
But who knows? That's just my opinion, after all! :]
