My mind was wandering. And you know how that overly buff villainous penguin from The Pebble and the Penguin was voiced by Tim Curry?
And he sings this song while trying to seduce the oddy pretty lady penguin?
youtube
And Tim Curry voices this overly buff version of Captain Hook?

I just got a very cursed animatic idea that I might actually freaking do if I have the time.

I know you said you find wade easier to write, but who do you think you relate to more? Peter or wade?
I don't really relate to characters like that. I think that I put traits of myself into both of them by nature of being their writer, but I feel like I'm a very different person than the both of them.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you should make an OC.
You should make an OC. Specifically a Spider-Sona. Like now. Preferably yesterday. [A MEDIUM-LONG essay about OC's, fanfiction, and how to enrich and better your writing skills in literally every sector. Throughout this essay I reference my two characters Disco-Spider and Inca-Spider as examples of the way OCs can be used.]
_________________________________________
"But no one cares about OCs -"
OKKAYYYY??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IDK about ya'll but fandom is NOT my final destination no siree
I feel like a lot of the time we get so caught up in posting and notes we forget that for many artists and writers on this platform - fanfiction is not the true end goal.
Many of us write and draw fanart for years -
But the fact of the matter is if you want to be an author someday, if you want to be a graphic novelist, an animator, etc, etc - You're going to HAVE to make OCs.
If you want to study English in college or publish books - you're gonna have to write an OC at least once. If not hundreds of times.
If you want to study art - chances are at some point you're gonna have to fill a portfolio with original pieces, including some of OCs.
If you want to do something with your writing, if you want to get better - or make a career out of your art, you HAVE to make OCs at some point.
And this is especially true for fanfiction writers.
You can get very very very good at writing in your specific fandoms, you may have the emotions of the characters on point, and the ability to describe the scenery.
But if you don't know how to create and design a character - if you don't know how to worldbuild, or come up with scenarios without the help of characterai and ChatGPT - you won't be able to write a book.
If you're an artist and you don't know how to draw an original character from scratch, how to match colors, how to draw certain skin tones, certain hair, wheelchairs and mobility aids, how to design a character from looks, to clothing - it's going to be so hard to expand your art outside of fanart. You'll always be beholden to the notes and popularity of your particular fandom.
Do it - even if you've never written or never draw before. Even better.
That's why I CHAMPION Spider-sonas so much. They're basically OCs on easy mode.
Can't write backgrounds yet? Here's a bucket on canon events to pick from? Can't draw faces? Blank mask with eyes.
Hell, if you're really really new about it - just pick a character and make a slightly different variant. Make a Hobie of your own, make a Peter variant. Make a Mary Jane variant. Pick a something you like and turn that into a character.
Can't write? Just fill-in the 'My name is [blank], I was bitten by a [blank]' script that Miles does. Can't draw, just draw out a basic shape of a body and color-out the suit, no fancy pose needed. That still counts!!
Make a self-insert. Make yourself fit into the story, design your suit, write out how you fight crime, how you'd act at the Society, meeting Miguel or Miles.
That's still character design, that's still worldbuilding.
We always hear people say 'Make art for yourself' and yeah that sounds nice - but people also misinterpret it.
Make art for yourself doesn't just mean making art that you personally like.
Making art for yourself also means making art that develops your skills even if no one gives a fuck. It's about making art as practice without the intention of it being 'completed', making OCs that never get used, drawing locations you see or writing a random ass short story then shoving it into your Google Drive forever.
Making art for yourself means making art that invests in yourself.
It means making art that interests you, challenges you, or helps you develop.
And making OC's helps develop your fanfic writing skills.
In may fandoms we begin to fall into these routine 'tropes' between characters and their personalities. This is usually known as the 'fanon' characterization.
Because when you have a set amount of characters and people, there's also a set amount of interactions and relationships between those people.
Writing OCs and having those OCs interact with canon characters allows you to dig deeper into sides of the canon characters we'd never otherwise see.
That's why I wrote Disco-Spider Diane like I do. Often, we see Hobie characterized as the chaotic, rowdy, confident type - which is perfect characterization for him. But in almost all of his interactions - he's the wilder, bolder, extroverted one. I wanted to put him in a situation where for once, he was the calmer one. I wanted to explore more grounded and chill sides of Hobie, one where he's the one grounding the other, and thinking logically - because in canon, we're hinted at a side of Hobie who's way more methodical and slow-paced and willing to stop and wait it out and play it off. And I wanted to see that. I wanted to explore what he'd do if he was faced with someone just as chaotic, who put on a cheeky ironic act - just the same as him.
Because no other characters serve that purpose in canon.
If there are elements of a character or concept you think are interesting but outright ignored by canon and fanon, you can create an OC to explore those parts.
For Disco-Spider: I wanted to explore how someone like a militant Black Panther would handle being Spider-woman, when Spider-people are usually shown as pacifists - what that would look like or how it'd shape her morals based on era, etc. For Inca-Spider: I realized there were so many culture based Spider people like Pavitr and Spider-UK. But none for indigenous communities, and NONE from countries that only existed in other universes. So, I created an indigenous character from Tawanti - a country that's located where Peru would be for us.
You can give a canon character a sibling, to explore how they'd interact with family. Give them a partner that acts totally different than their canon partner, write how that'd change the way they show love.
OC's make your original writing better, AND your fanfiction writing too. They can help you understand canon characters on a deeper level.
And sure, nobody likes your OC. NOW.
But every single character you write about, is someones OC. Every character you write about was once treated that way. Once upon a time, Dean Winchester was just some rando character in the pilot script of a show that hadn't picked up yet. Probably no one gave a fuck until CW picked it up.
The writers had to not only make him and develop him - they had to BELIEVE in him enough to pitch him to a TV show channel to make people care.
That's always the first step. Believing your character's story is worthy enough of being told and presenting it as such.
ESPECIALLY if your OC represents a demographic you don't see represented. Cause yes if there isn't any black women in canon then I'll Thanos this shit and do it myself.
Make OCs.
Write them. Draw them. Even if it's bad. Who the hell cares. Big Mouth is on Netflix with multiple seasons, have you seen that show?? 'Ugly' art is not a crime.
Make piccrews, fill out OCforms or take quiz's as them. Write little blurbs of them hanging with canon characters then post it in the tag.
You don't need a huge Spidersona sheet or a long long fic explaining their backstory. They can just be there.
MAKE OCs.
Make them to explore more in your fanfiction, make them so future you can write that novel or draw or that comic or sell those prints or whatever it is you plan to do.
Make it so your fanfiction AND original writing can grow stronger. It isn't just about notes and content and follows.
Make an OC. Make a Spidersona. Literally you have nothing to lose but your chains.
"Nobody cares-"
Oh they'll care when you pop out with that 6-book publishing deal. They'll care when you're designing big characters for movies. Cause that's how it happens. Watch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ANYWAYSSSS if you made it this far I hope this inspired you to at least play around with the idea of OCs and Spidersonas in general.
Here's Hobie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BYE.
If you want to make a sona and are kinda lost on where to start, lemme know!! Because I think they're amazing starting places for those who have never written or drawn before. Or if you have a sona but want to develop them further.
I haven't seen a guide to spidersonas and i wonder if that's something some people might want/need.
Seriously if I can even get one person into writing or drawing I'll be over the goddamn moon.
MAKE OCS PLEASE.

The Twisted Wonderland OC (Yuu)niverse Writing Challenge
In the past, I've written plenty of AU stories and a few have featured cameo OCs. These OC were temporary characters but I'd like to introduce more standard characters to do cameos. So to my followers, I'd like to give you a chance to submit your own characters based on a list of obscure or lesser-known stories or characters that we haven't considered.
The Rules:
The list is first come first serve but chose wisely. Don't rush because you might not be happy with the results.
You can call dibs on 1 prompt on the list but you have to finish within a timely manner (24 hours) before the prompt is available again to everyone. I will update this post everytime a prompt is taken or open.
After a prompt is completed the character's name will appear as a new tag in any future works they appear in.
Be as creative as possible, no self-inserts. That would be against the spirit of being as creative as possible. I want you to think outside the box (so I have more to write about them)
Don't be mean. If a prompt is taken and someone does it anyway I discuss giving them their own prompt or letting them make their own if they like. We must be welcoming. This is for fun.
If you have questions don't be afraid to ask.
Your template must be completed in full with character info like appearance description added. You don't have to do the art but it would be appreciated.
Submit by reblogging your finished templet and profile so that it's visible.
Template: (credit goes to the original creator @yxmechii)

Welcome to Gaymurdersalad! Or Freddy Fazbender’s, I don’t know, the script got soaked in mop water again.
Here you will find such an array of characters as ROTTING PUMPKIN, PACK OF CAMELS, HENRY, two PLASTIC IDIOTS, a DANGEROUS FURRY, and if you ask for her, GOD HERSELF!
As for the information of their whereabouts, don’t you worry, I’ve stalked and creeped around enough to figure it out!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
[ and my pronouns are ve/ver, thank you very much! @cowardly_conduct, that’s me! ]
———
While I may ruthlessly disrespect these characters because they are silly and dumb, you may not, as they are attached like strings to my very real human self. As I am a mod. For this blog. God forbid.
Some Rules :
- I am not immune to the spare dirty joke, but keep your language within reason.
- You can ask as many asks as you like! Alas, please don’t spam some silly stuff over and over again for a gag.
- Weird asks like “[Character] is so hot” or “[Character] I have a crush on you” will not be entertained, so save me some time and don’t ask all that!
- You can give characters things if you wish. Keep ‘em within reason or I won’t make it so. Depending on what it is it may stay or go later on.
- Sure, you can mention some characters, but try not to directly insert them into the “story”. They don’t really have to be dsaf related either, I mean, this whole thang is silly, if you wanna ask Peter if he knows what Salad Fingers is, go right ahead.
———
That should be it! Have quite a decent day, and remember the company motto: EGGPLANTS AND ORANGES CAN GO IN SALADS TOO!!!
… God dammit I need to keep my papers out of Dave’s reach.

Timeless
Tumblr media
Peter Pevensie x reader, George Karim x reader, Peter Parker x reader, allusion to Remus Lupin x reader Summary: There is a type of love that exists in all universes, and maybe, just maybe, you have that love... Trigger Warning: mentions of crying I think and being disgustingly in love, there is a mention of a tough mission - marvel, in the 3rd italicized part if you need to skip that also, the main plot/timeline doesn't have an actual character that is specified, so insert whoever. a/n: I spent an unbelievable amount of time on this, and literally all my self-esteem is resting on this rn, slay, please let me know if you like it!! -- each piece is inspired by a taylor swift song, and it is all based on her song Timeless, also pleeease understand who the old lady is! Otherwise I've failed at writing!
It had been about 2 years together now, 3 as friends, and you were madly in love. It felt as if you had known each other far longer, you couldn’t exactly place it, but it felt as if you knew each other in another lifetime. You had been out looking for an anniversary gift, nothing too eccentric, but perfect. The downtown area was small enough and the weather was the perfect type of gloomy for you to walk around. You had been going in and out of shops you knew, but when you stumbled across a unique looking door with vines climbing up the side of the building something drew you in.
Stepping in you were immediately engulfed in the smell of flowers, old books, and something sweet that you couldn’t quite place. The store was a beautiful mix of old and new, and the lady at the counter seemed to know exactly how you were feeling. You smiled at one another before you walked over to where the books were laid out. Most of them seemed like books you may take a glimpse at before moving on, but something caught your eye. The title seemed to be handwritten, picking it up you began to flip through it immediately being sucked in.
—
The couple raced through the field, many years earlier they would have been worried that the trampled flowers would not recover. However, that was not the Narnian way, the flowers seemed to almost instantly spring back to life. Things seemed to thrive here, and even when things had passed, it was never sad, more of a celebration.
Peter, the High King had been forcibly dragged out of his study by his wife, though there were grumbles about papers and deals that needed to be taken care of, they were soon hushed. You were dancing and running in the field. The shrill of laughter could be heard for miles as Peter picked you up by your waist from behind. You could feel his lips on your neck and shoulders, pressing loving kisses to your warm skin.
“You, my love, are wonderful!” Pressing another kiss to your shoulder he then began to tickle your sides. Your body thrashed as you laughed, a sound he wished he could play over and over again. After escaping you fell softly to the ground, Peter beside you. Turning to look at his face, you let yourself remember the many years you had spent together growing and loving one another.
“And you, darling, are just as delightful.” Stretching a bit, you pressed a kiss to his jaw to reaffirm your statement. You both sighed quietly while taking in the moment, the sun was shining not too bright, the flowers created a beautiful aroma, and your lover was laying by your side.
“Do you remember what you said to me the night you proposed?” You smile at the memory, Peter had spent weeks courting you, and even longer trying to win your father over.
“Of course I do.” He scoffs as if he is hurt that you’d ever think he’d forget. “And I think it has to be one of the most romantic things ever.” You hit his chest, both of you chuckling.
“‘I love you, and that’s all I really know?’ That is the most romantic thing ever said?” Again he feigned hurt by slapping a hand over his chest.
“How dare you? I do believe you are the one who said yes, and then proceeded to stay with me all these years.” You roll your eyes, perhaps you had decided to stay with him, he was so wonderful after all. “Of course I did, because I love you Peter.”
“And I love you, my heart.” You roll over to lay half way on his chest before pressing your lips to his, and you smile knowing that you wouldn’t trade this for the world.
You decided the book might be one of the most enthralling and beautiful stories you’ve ever read. The story wildly resembled the love you shared with your boyfriend, so of course you had to purchase it. Though you still continued to peruse the shop. There were little trinkets here and there, a few older looking hair brushes accompanied by hand held mirrors; there were some old children's toys easily making you smile at the thought of two young friends playing. Then you saw the most beautiful set of tea cups sitting next to each other. Again, a smile found its way to your face, you could only think about an old couple sitting together, perhaps the friends that played with the toys, enjoying a nice cup of tea while watching the sun set.
With The Problem, your options in life had been very limited, one of those options being friends. So you were stuck with your next door neighbor, George Karim. If there was one word to describe him, it was weird, and he knew it too. But that was what made you even closer. It was hard when he moved away, you were still somewhat young but the bond you formed was something that seemed much older. Yet you were left all alone again.
“George Karim, you better not forget about me! I’ll find you in the future.” your little voice sounded so broken, and his was as well.
“I can’t forget about my best friend.” He said as if it was a fact, a promise even. So you sealed it with a pinky promise and then tugged one another into a hug.
Spending years in a regular school because you didn’t have a talent was boring. Everyone seemed to almost ignore The Problem, when all you wanted to do was talk about it. There was one boy who tried to pursue you, he faked interest in the problem to get a chance with you in bed. Of course you did nothing less than physically kicking him out of the house, but since then things seemed to be dull, black and white almost. So you decided to do something more with your life.
Having seen an ad in the paper for a researcher you promptly took action. Knocking on the door of 35 Portland Row was nothing but horrific. What if you had managed to get the address wrong, or what if it was a group of older much scarier men? Your mind wouldn’t stop spinning, that was until the lock could be heard turning and the door swung open. The boy hadn’t even looked up at you before speaking.
“If you’re here about the position, you have about 5 minutes because it is almost te-”
“Tea time. 3 o'clock tea time.” Your voice held hope, something you hadn’t felt in a long time.
“Exactly.” He sounded almost agitated, but then he looked up at you, and all the disdain washed from his face. You smiled slightly, but were caught off guard as he almost tackled you in a hug.
“It’s you!” pulling back, though he still held onto your shoulders. “You found me.” It was more of a statement than a question.
“A pinky promise is not to be broken, right?” Your smile was so bright he was sure you could turn the gloomy day bright, technically you already had. He quickly ushered you inside, passing what you assumed was the makeshift interview room, George told the other boy that you needed a bit of tea prior to your interview.
As you got situated at the dining table you watch him move about the kitchen, quickly heating up the water while pulling out different types of tea. He was humming an old song, one your mother used to play while you and he would play in the living room.
“My favorite!” a bit surprised but grateful, he turned to face you.
“I know,” he smiled sweetly, and oh how you missed that smile. “I can’t seem to forget it.”
You spent more time than necessary letting the tea get to a reasonable drinking temperature and even more time getting caught up with one another. All the while you couldn’t help but think that it was much more than just change that brought you back together; and that you were excited for these sweet nothings to continue.
—
By the time you had come out of your little daydream, you had realized it had begun to rain. And though you loved the rain, you weren’t in the proper attire for it.
“Why don’t you stay a bit longer dear, I can sort you out some tea and we can talk to pass the time.” The old lady at the counter, who you almost forgot about, said.
“Oh, thank you but that’s too kind I wouldn’t-”
“Don’t be silly, it is rare that I get company.” She politely interrupted, now you didn’t have the heart to tell her no. As she trailed off into the back room you let yourself peruse the tables a bit long, but a sharp yelp of laughter caught your attention, you looked outside to see a young couple jumping in the newly formed puddles. The boy looked at the girl as if she had hung the moon.
It had been one of the toughest missions you had ever been on. After receiving an anonymous tip about a bombing about to happen, you and Natasha had been partnered together to evacuate the building as quickly as possible. Thankfully, with great struggle, you had managed to save everyone. But the possibility of failure still weighed heavily on your chest. So when you got home you packed a plate full of food, grabbed some water, and went up to your room to change and lay on your bed.
You had been alone for all of 30 minutes, enough time to finish your food and enough to be on the cusp of falling asleep. But that quickly ended when there was a quiet knocking on the door. The grumble you let out should be enough for the other person to understand that you wanted to be left alone, but it wasn’t. The door creaked open, and you could tell it was him before he even set foot into your room.
“I heard it was a tough one.” Thankfully his voice was quiet and calm, otherwise you might have chucked a pillow at him. “I thought maybe you could use some company.” With a nod of acceptance, he made his way to lay down next to you. Reaching a hand out, he took it pulling you closer until you were laying on his chest.
“I love you.” he then pressed a kiss to your head, and all felt right.
After some time there was a light patter of rain on your window and suddenly you had some energy rushing through your body.
“Peter, come on!” You exclaimed quietly. He opened his eyes groggily, though you knew he wasn’t actually sleeping. You grabbed his hand again just like you had about an hour ago, though this time you were dragging him up and out of bed. “Put your shoes on!” This time you were louder as you hopped about on one foot as you attempted to put on your sneakers.
You had him following you out, but the second he felt the water droplets hitting his body he squished his face all up. But you had missed it, you were too busy jumping in puddles, the ends of your pants were now soaked, and your socks were far beyond dry, but you could care less. And Peter could care less about the rain dripping down his face, all he cared about was your laugh and how every time you looked as though you couldn’t get happier, you did.
“Pete, come one, don’t make me jump around all by myself!” And who was he to deny you. Soon your found yourselves soaked to the bone,
“You are the only person I’d dance with in a storm in my best pair of sweatpants.” He chuckled as you purposefully splashed him.
“I know, and I love it!”
“Dear, the tea is ready!” the lady called out from upstairs, ” You tore your gaze away from the couple finding yourself more intrigued the further up you went into the store. It gradually got lighter, the walls were soon covered in a yellow daisy pattern wallpaper. And soon you were welcomed by walls full of pictures, there were stacks of books all around the living room, and a few candles that looked as though they were on their last legs.
You found the woman in the kitchen standing on her tippy toes to reach for the sugar. Swiftly taking action you reached up from behind her and pulled the sugar down for her.
“My husband used to always get that for me.” She lets out a chuckle, but it doesn’t hold any tone of sadness. “Now please, have a seat!” She pointed towards the small sunroom you hadn’t noticed.
“This is beautiful, I didn’t know apartments could have sunrooms anymore.” You gently grazed a few of the trailing plants, out of your eye you could have sworn you saw one move.
“I know, they usually don’t. But when I begged my husband, he couldn’t help but give in!” You met her on the couch, observing the house. It was quiet for a bit, but it wasn’t uncomfortable which was rather unexpected seeing as you were sitting with a stranger.
“What was your husband like?” You broke the silence. She smiled at you as if she was waiting for you to ask that. Standing up she mumbled something about staying put while she rummaged through her living room before finding what she was looking for.
As she made her way back to you and you found your heart filling, in her hands she held 4 picture books. She plopped them down on the table before pulling the top one off. The outside was covered in stickers, and on the front was ‘1974’, she traced it with her finger before flipping it open. The inside was just as decorated, there were drawings and captions around a whole bunch of photos.
“This was the year I met my husband, Remus. He’s the tall one right there.” She said fondly while pointing to the boy with a healing cut across his cheek. Next to him were 3 other boys and a girl with red hair, each wearing matching ties, school issued you assumed.
“And who are the others?” She was quick to begin her explanation of how they all met. Apparently the four boys had known one another since their first year, but then the red head, Lily, and herself had slowly integrated into the group with some of their other friends.
“We were such a rambunctious group, that one,” she pointed to a black haired boy, “was always causing the most chaos. But he had a troubled home life, so we were more gracious with him. And later his younger brother came along and joined our group.” She was flipping through the pages, you saw photos of the group out by a lake, some of parties, at least 2 of a buck in the room, though you chose not to comment on that. Then she reached for the next book, titled 1975-1977.
The pictures progressed into pictures of younger her and her husband, a few of them standing near one another on snowy paths, others where they are fully dressed in red and gold, again assuming it was a part of a school event. Though you were entranced by the photos, all you could do was admire the woman’s devotion and absolute adoration that she seemed to hold for her late husband. It seemed as though she had loved him longer than he had even known.
“My was he handsome, always was.” she continued to stare at one particular picture.
You assumed it was the day they had gotten engaged by the size of her smile, and the ring on her finger that hadn’t been there before. She stood next to Remus, who was staring down at her with a fond smile.
“He was handsome. What was he like?” You were unsure if that was the right question to ask by the saddened look she held, but it was soon erased as she looked up at you. She let out a laugh as tears spilt over.
“Remus was a quiet one, shy but also very cocky. He was a genius, in fact he had his own little study group, he helped tutor some of the younger grades. But my oh my was he mischievous, he was the brains behind all the wild schemes he and his friends put up.” Then she turned her attention to the flat. “He adored books, as you can see. I loved them too, but I think to him, they were an escape. He used to read them to me as well.” She trailed off quietly for a moment. The more she talked about him, the more you felt as if you recognized him, recognized their relationship. But you chose not to say anything about it.
“But enough of that sad nonsense! I’m sure you have far better things to attend to, I sense there is something special happening tonight?” you shook your head before finishing the rest of your tea.
“I appreciate this, truly!” Offering her a kind smile, you pulled out your wallet in preparation for paying, but she put her hand over yours.
“No, don’t worry about it dear, I believe these items chose you. I would feel better if you had them as if they were already yours.” As you were about to protest, she began pushing you back towards the door and out into the street. “Have fun this evening, dear.” She smiled before shutting the door in your face.
“Darling, I am home!” You said with a raised voice. Today had been something else entirely and you were excited to tell him all about it. The smell of food wafted through the hallway pulling you towards the kitchen. But you weren’t met with your lover, you were met with your friend instead.
“Analise? What are you doing here?” There is no point in denying that you were a bit disappointed that she was here, today was your special day with your boyfriend.
“What are you talking about? I’m not here.” Now you were truly perplexed, the smirk that she wore didn’t help at all.
“I-” she simply grabbed your elbow and walked you outside to your small backyard. Then you understood why she was there. There was a small table set out in the yard near your flower garden, with two chairs and some lights hanging around the yard. And there stood your lover, smiling brightly. Tears grew in your eyes, how special this was.
“Hello, my love.” He stepped forward to press a kiss to your lips.
“What is all this?” your voice was barely above a whisper as you looked around.
“For you. I wanted to do something special for our anniversary.” Now he led you over to sit down across from him.
The evening held some light conversation, by the end your stomach was happy and your heart felt light.
“I hope you saved room for dessert.”
“I always have room for dessert, silly!” Your laugh was as beautiful as a sunset, at least that’s what he thought. You turned to face the house, Analise was bringing out a small tray of cupcakes, and while your back was turned, and your mouth was drooling, you missed the sound of your love moving. As Analise set the tray down you turned to ask your love which you should eat first, you noticed he was gone. Spinning in your chair to face the opposite direction you saw your love down on one knee.
“Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?” he says with a slight smile. “Honestly, honey, I have no idea, but  I’ve loved you three summers now, honey, but I want ‘em all. I’m gonna love you when our hair is turning gray. And I will spend every day for the rest of my life showing how much I love you.”
Vigorously shaking your head yes, you launched yourself at him holding on tight around his neck, hoping to never let him go.
“Yes, a thousand times yes!” Your voice was somewhat quiet, making the moment more intimate. “We’re gonna be timeless.”

Do you like Remus? Like I’m genuinely asking because it seems like from your anti wolfstar posts that you dislike him 😭
This was a surprise to receive. I'm curious what I said to lead you to ask but I love Remus. He was an instant favorite of mine pretty much the moment we met him in POA.
There's so much to like about him, especially if you like flawed characters. Remus is smart and has a great sense of humor, but he's also extremely self serving, I think, in his attempt to protect himself because of his lycanthropy. We see two extreme cases of him failing to overcome his own cowardice and making reprehensible decisions because of it (hiding the fact that Sirius is an animagus when he was attempting to break in to the school and basically trying to abandon his pregnant wife). He clearly has a strong internal battle between wanting companionship and feeling undeserving of it and that's such a compelling element to his character. I love that he was the Prefect that was supposed to keep his friends in line and the best he could do was frown at his textbook in SWM.
This may sound like I'm dumping on him but that's not the case. He's interesting precisely because of his flaws! He's witty, fast-thinking, clever, and a sarcastic voice inserting itself in when Sirius and James are going off the rails. He's mischievous just like the rest of them, a prankster, up for a good laugh, and I don't think his name is first listed on the map for no reason. He's a bit quiet and bookish but it's mostly to keep people from giving him a second glance. He can deliver a cutting line that puts his friends in their places but he's also quick to forgive them because he values their friendship more than anything in his life. He considers himself a monster and to some degree desperately wants to believe his friends when they say he's not. He's also guilt-ridden from the risks his friends took becoming animagus but he was too cowardly to fight against it because deep down he wanted to not be so isolated. He's loyal but also in a self-preserving way like in his insistence that they have to trust Dumbledore and his loyalty can be swayed when presented more information, like the fact that he was down to kill Peter the second he realized Sirius was innocent. Remus is powerful and can be scary, not unlike Sirius. I could go on about his role in the war and the way he had to carry on after Oct 31st but I digress.
Remus is not some gigantic, overly scarred, sex-on-legs, extroverted, smooth-talking guy. He's pretty average, blend in with the crowd, sheltered only child, staying under the radar, "loony loopy Lupin".
TL;DR I love complex canon Remus Lupin. IRT fanon deviations? You'd be right, I'm not a big fan of characters straying far from canon because their canon characterization is the foundation upon which my appreciation and affection has been built.

RE: this ask
Sorry about to go off on one, gender studies and online fan culture from an academic standpoint is a special interest of mine because being film and literature student wasn't annoying enough (participatory culture studies my beloved)
From a general standpoint, I think the reason M/M ships in fiction have always been more popular is because male characters are historically more developed and complex. I think it’s only in recent years have their been an influx of popular F/F ships, with the added development of women on screen (e.g Clarke and Lexa, Kara and Lena, Regina and Emma, Nancy and Robin) - I think there is also a point to be made this has coincided with gender expression, genderqueerness and more general knowledge of being outside the typical gender spectrum.
I can’t explicitly say that being in M/M fandom spaces encouraged my personal discovery of being transmasc but it certainly helped to have an avenue where I could project onto these “male” characters and see myself in them. I was so uncomfortable in my own body and what I didn’t know at the time as dysphoria, I can see why I didn’t go for F/F ships.
There are of course a lot of “fandom elders” but young (early to late teens) afab people do make up a large bulk of it and I get why  it may be easier for them to fixate on M/M ships as a, sort of method of exploring their own sexuality and gender expression. F/F ships may hit too close to home and F/M ships are what they are trying to escape from so it leaves M/M ships to project onto. Which, unfortunately then can become warped by the persons own comphet and/or binary ideas about gender.
A male character may have more stereotypically “feminine” traits (in terms of interests or emotional reactions) and I can see why people who also have those traits would project there own insecurities onto them, reinforcing the feminisation of the male character but not being comfortable enough in your own gender expression to genderbend the character or write them as trans.
It’s the same reason I think mafia romance, dark romance etc etc is so popular with cishet women because they can read about a fantasy where instead of the very real every day misogyny and violence they face leading to abuse, assault and death, it brings “positives” ; protected, loved, a happy relationship.
Which, side note. I think this has A Lot to do with y/n, self insert fics becoming “cringe”. Because, I think a lot of people just want to fuck/date a character and feel like they can’t write a self insert anymore, so just project massively onto one character, leading to a lot of these issues. I don’t think Tony Stark/Peter Parker would be as popular as it is if people just let young women write their self insert fic about being Tony Stark’s sugar baby and then we wouldn’t have the wildly mischaracterised version of Peter Parker that we do!
But, all this being said. I’m talking about fiction. Dean Winchester isn’t actually affected if people online only talk about him in a stereotypically “female” way.
RPF is a different kettle of fish (and I’m not going in RPF ethics that’s different - I have no issues with rpf creators/consumers to be clear, I am one) because a real person does become affected. Even if you are keeping your fan works and discussions to private spaces, it can leach over into how you speak about the actual person. That’s where it becomes so incredibly important to remember that your RPF version of celebrities are just as fictional as Dean Winchester is.
sorry I used mr. supernatural as an example, 13 year old me is still alive and kicking in my head somewhere.
I love to hear your perspective on it with a trans worldview (and academic credentials), and I do agree that that might be a big driver of some young people only wanting to engage with MLM fic and feeling uncomfortable with WLW fic. You've brought up so many great points so I'll try and address them all.
I can add the perspective of a lesbian who was closeted for the first two decades of my life, came out less than five years ago, and still struggles on and off with comphet now. MLM fics in my teens were a way to consume queer content and relationships without having to think about the implications of enjoying consuming WLW content, and I think that's true for a lot of young closeted teens so it's no surprise that some comphet/hetnorm/cisnorm stuff bleeds through there because it's a framework the authors haven't managed to detach themselves from yet.
But yeah, I agree the issue lies with people wanting characters to be self-inserts partially so that they can experience sex, sexuality, and romance without any of the hang ups of thinking about patriarchy. And I agree with your solution: make y/n fics cool again! The ability we have to hallucinate while we read is magic! You can put YOURSELF in as a character's love interest, how cool is that?
Ultimately, yeah. There's nothing wrong with RPF as long as it isn't actually affecting the person that the RPF is based off, but I've seen a lot of takes escaping containment so to say (ie. leaving this website) with takes about the actual racers so obviously picked up through RPF. The main culprits are Charles, Lando, Max in my experience.

I like Stiles as a character, but I often get frustrated by fanon diverging from canon, and the worst of it to me is the ways that Lydia treated by Stiles - as something he deserves, most notably when she kisses Scott and he's angry, which the fandom holds against Scott because apparently Lydia making choices means Scott is a bad friend - or in the scene when Lydia is high after the werewolf attack at the movie rental place, and the only thing that keeps Stiles from doing [something] is that Lydia calls out for Jackson rather than him.
I think Stiles is kind of a jerk, and I like him because of it, but the fanon Stiles used as a weapon to bludgeon canon Scott is... the dumbest thing in the fandom
Tumblr media
Have you ever seen the frequent criticism on this site that certain people should have paid more attention in English class? This criticism arises from posts like the one I saw today, where a person was confessing that "people think Stiles is evil because he almost made out with Lydia while she was drugged up." I don't think Stiles is evil for doing that; it sounds like you don't think Stiles is evil. I've never actually heard anyone call him evil for almost giving into temptation. (The closest I've ever come to calling Stiles's evil is his behavior in Lies of Omission (5x09) and Status Asthmaticus (5x10) and I don't even go that far). What we do recognize that what he did in Lydia's bedroom in The Tell (1x05) wasn't the right way to behave.
Stiles's desire for Lydia is real and natural; it was his inability to recognize and respect proper boundaries that almost created a very bad situation. He did pull away when Lydia said Jackson's name; the realization that she was confused about who he was and not secretly attracted to him reminded him that his behavior wouldn't be the fulfillment of his desire but him taking advantage of her. It's a good scene that tells us about Stiles's weaknesses but also about his strengths: beyond the insecurity that leads him to fixate on the most unattainable girl in school and his constant disregard for proper boundaries, Stiles is a fundamentally decent human being.
So why do I, personally, bring up this scene when talking about Teen Wolf a lot? Stiles-stans (who are not really fans of Stiles but fans of Fanon Stiles or, more accurately, Self-Insert with a Stiles Name Tag) like to go on and on about how deficient a person Scott McCall, the lead protagonist, is because he was "obsessed" with Allison and lacrosse. They argue this to say why they 'dislike' him, but what they actually mean is that he shouldn't be the lead protagonist. But they never seem to remember Stiles's behavior when it comes to Lydia (or Derek's behavior when it comes to Paige or Liam's behavior when it comes to Hayden for that matter).
My position -- and I think the production shared this position -- is that Scott's desire to have a girlfriend and make first line on the lacrosse team is real and natural. However, his attempts to avoid recognizing and coping with the consequences of Peter's vicious assault could lead to very bad situations unless he took responsibility. Scott had to learn how to anchor himself -- which he did! He had to make sure he put what was truly important ahead of his relationship with Allison -- which he did!
I have always maintained that Teen Wolf is a bildungsroman, which is a story about children becoming adults. Throughout the series, Scott's growth is primary; he evolves from an asthmatic loser who feels like he sits on the sidelines of life into a True Alpha werewolf leading a war against those who would murder supernatural creatures out of self-interest. But he's not the only one to grow. Allison had her own story; Lydia had her own story; Derek had his own story (one of the best redemption arcs ever); and Stiles had his version of that story!
The problem is that there are a lot of people who didn't watch Teen Wolf as a story, but rather as raw material. They swooped in and picked up the parts that they wanted, like vultures devouring a carcass. They wanted Stiles and <insert white male love interest here> to be the focus of the show, as they were the focus of their interests, but they could do without the part where Stiles struggles to grow up. In response, they selected only the parts that fit their agenda. Thus, Scott becomes dull, obsessive, stupid, with a foolish no-kill rule, and an unearned hostility toward the Hale Family whom he shamelessly usurps, even though none of that description is remotely true. On the other hand, Stiles becomes the should-be valedictorian of his class, a master archmage, and a ruthless anti-hero ready to kill anyone to protect which ever white male character he loves this week, even though none of that description is remotely true.
Fandom, in the name of their own enjoyment, has boiled their understanding of the story down to "I don't like Scott" and "Stiles is not evil!" Nuanced takes like "Stiles had the courage to cross boundaries to protect others but that tendency also led him into some problematic actions" and "Scott didn't start out a heroic protagonist; he only embraced the mantle when he realized that the threats he had to face didn't care that he and his friends were teenagers." become difficult for them to understand and unpleasant for them to process, because they only really want Power Fantasy Stiles and Bad Friend Scott. Those bits and pieces fit into the pre-existing tropes that bring them pleasure. It's the limitations that frustrate them, not Teen Wolf's.

// cw status neuroticism,
There's this widely recognized phenomenon where a lot of male writers write about self-insert characters who are kind of mediocre pairing up with a woman that has all the qualities they like in women, and reading a lot of this stuff gets pretty tiresome – and sometimes, because of the other stuff this kind of writing gets bundled up with, uncomfortable or upsetting.
But the backlash against this gets distilled so frequently into "if these were real people X would never date Y", "what is X doing with this loser" – that is, "X is out of Y's league", which is a sentiment / concept-pattern towards which I have, to my own surprise, an almost moral disgust. I think it's because these evaluations are the boldest and most explicit I see people being about their buy-in to the model that status permeates everything, you can tell what someone's status is by knowing their traits and capabilities, and that people of sufficiently different status cannot date each other.
(e.g. from a tumblr post I love 90% of: “And not that this is even the point, but why are these supposedly sexy and dynamic and interesting women BOTHERING with your boring garbage ‘on the skinny side of average’ protagonist? Why did you write it like this, Peter?””)
I think people are normally not very frank about believing this, and I like that they aren't because I don't want to live in a world where that's true, and so when they are frank about believing it when it comes to the one specific case of wanting to make fun of writers whose mediocre self inserts, I freak out badly because it's evidence that this is TRUE and everyone PRIVATELY KNOWS THIS and we all live in American-high-schools-as-depicted-by-movies hell and everyone is lying about it because, I don't know, the zeitgeist forbids it.
I have a similar horror/disgust reaction to the notion that sufficiently attractive women can pick anyone they like. Not to pick on the author here – I only happen to have this example mentally available because I love their fanfiction and have read it many times:
"Yeah, it's all cool," Kon said. "Lex's people are almost here. Hey, Kory, if you couldn't date Superman, what superhero would you date?"
Kory blinked. "I do not want to date Superman."
"No lie," Cassie muttered.
"Shut up," Kon hissed at her. "Yeah, but if you did want to, but you couldn't, who would be number two?"
"I don't understand," Kory said. "If I wanted to date someone, I would date him."
Kon paused and studied all seven golden feet of her, amber hair tumbling to her knees, and the scanty purple costume barely covering her breasts. "Okay, fine, nevermind."
Really? Dating works like this? The dating world of humans is a cacophony of weird preferences and relationship constraints and couples where I privately think one of them is really interesting/likeable and the other isn't but they seem really happy and they must see something in each other that I don’t... and you can have sufficiently hot people that they could date anyone they wanted???
I think this kind of thing is much more common in female characters than male, and it's uncomfortably obvious to me why: attractive women have more sexual capital than attractive men – in fact, their sexual capital comprises far more of their total capital / status resources than men – and therefore when people write about them and how much capital they have, it's in terms of how desirable they are and how they can date anyone they like. Even among feminist authors! Possibly especially among feminist authors, because feminist authors are more interested in writing about women who have a lot of status/capital!

How comfortable are you when you ship your self insert / OC with YB but see others that is not your mutuals ship their sona / OC with YB?
I don't really care about shipping him with whoever. I'm more worried with how I and other portray him
I mean I'm constantly stressed when making yb content, wondering if I made him act in character or not
and I hate it when I'm scrolling on my fyp and I just see art of Peter and I know he'd never do/say any of that, but what the fuck am I supposed to do, tell them they don't know him ⁉️🙏🙏
imo, everyone's version of yb is different, BECAUSE he was made for you. since I love Rick and Morty, my version of yb would probably have already watched the show or would be willing to watch it with me. but if someone else hated it, their version of yb probably would reflect the same
(I spoke with Benny about this) like I hc Peter liking both classical music and goth, but because everyone's got different music tastes, he'd either already fit your mold or he'd try to by listening to what you like and teaching himself to like it and such

some of your OCs have become canon in my mind and i’m now always suprised they’re not in actual canon/ other bits of fanfics/ fanart jahajshjs
I'm curious which ones now, I got a squad of the fuckers.
I'm ngl I also do that... I forgor.
I'm gonna list them, for fun. Diego Almagro Jr (Technically canon, but only shows up like once in a side material, and might have been mentioned in main canon, so I have to build him from basically nothing.) Uriel Walker Amparo (My beautiful son who causes nothing but chaos. Debuts in Repentance. Basically the entire story revolves around him.) Aurora Pascal aka Tia (Uriel's secondary caretaker, sister of Claude. Debuts in Repentance.) Claudette Pascal aka Claude aka Cherub (Lt of the Shikar in Repentance, debuts in Placeholder as an informant for the Ghosts. Also appears in Christmas/Yule fic I wrote as "Santa Claude") Alvera Hart aka Vera aka Heart (Debuts in Placeholder, also appears in Repentance. Big sister to all. Very much in love with Sarah. "Lets go lesbians!") Sarah Hart aka Sweetie (Debuts in Placeholder. Also appears in Repentance. Married to Vera in both. Hence the last name.) Adonis Rex aka Ghillie (Insert I wrote for a beloved friend. Debuts in Placeholder, also appears in Repentance. Very close to Keegan in both.) Katar aka Lucky (Literally me. He's a self insert. Debuts in Placeholder, also appears in Repentance. I use him mostly as comic relief, but he does help motivate the plot like twice.) Peter Cruz aka Pig (Debuts in Repentance. One of Dani's subordinates in the Shikar.) Abraham Perez aka Bram aka Shank (Debuts in Repentance. Member of the Shikar. Besties with Pig.) Deimos (One of Dani's dogs.) Phobos (The other of Dani's dogs.)
And outside a few minor characters that is pretty much all of them. Total is like eleven. (Others include Willow/Sticks and Silva/Silver.)

The Just Dancers as a DnD Party
Designs created by me on Hero Forge
Sara as a Fighter (Champion)
Tumblr media
With Sara being new to the Danceverses. I considered what the DnD equivalent to this, which I settled on champion Fighter (I think my first character was one). The simplicity of the build works for Sara as a character due to her being the player insert coach of JD23.
Wanderlust as a Sorcerer (Divine Soul)
Tumblr media
Given that Wanderlust is described as a Sorcerer in canon, it seemed obvious what class should be. I chose Divine Soul as Favoured by the Gods ties in with him being The Chosen One. Also I think I like the idea of Wanderlust having healing magic, although we've never seen him use it in game.
Brezziana as a Paladin (Oath of Glory)/Fighter (Banneret)
Tumblr media
I think there's a lot of abilities in a Paladin's tool kit that could be flavoured to Brezziana's build. For instance, the flow that radiates off her in Stronger could either be her aura of protection or her divine smites, and her helping people up in the bridge to Physical could be her casting Lay on Hands. As for her subclass, Oath of Glory paladins are all about honing the body and being at your physical peak to overcome challenges, if that's not perfect for her as a fitness trainer I don't know what is.
I also gave her a fighter multiclass to tie into the lyric, "What doesn't kill you, makes a fighter." The features of Banneret fighters, also known as Purple Dragon Knights (like her hair colour) have a lot of supportive capabilities, thus tying more to her Paladin features of keeping her allies up in the fight.
Mihaly as a Monk (Way of the Astral Self)
Tumblr media
Mihaly fits into the Monk class like a singular coloured glove. Their dance style is quick, fluid, and controlled, which ties into the high dexterity wisdom monks need. They have a strong spiritual connection to the flow, which mechanically would be their ki.
As @halfratsalready said in their own Just Dance & Dragons posts, Way of the Astral Self is a reflavour of Mihaly's panda form, stemming from years of honing their monk abilities connection to the world around them
Jack Rose as a Bard (College of Eloquence)/Rogue (Swashbuckler)
Tumblr media
I mean, he is a performer, and bards do have a feat called jack of all trades.
I gave him the College of Eloquence as they're geared around holding the attention of the crowd and charming people. Additionally, I added a Swashbuckler rogue multiclass because rogues have a lot of tools to get out of the way, evade damage, and swashbucklers have a lot of charisma based abilities, thus suiting his spell casting modifier.
Mostly, I think he would be doing support spellcasting from range, but from having the rogue sneak attack, he would just be able to do a lot more damage if an enemy got too close.
Bonus: Fairy!Discoball
In this universe Discoball is Wanderlust's familiar/protector/younger sibling (they're really tiny). Think the Tinkerbell to his Peter Pan or the Navi to his Link.

hi everyone, I know I haven't been very active lately in terms of posting art, but I would like to make a post anyway about the future of this blog, as it concerns current events happening in the world.
As you all have probably seen (and if you haven't, I highly suggest you do some research on the subject), Palastine is currently being terrorized and the people are experiencing a mass genocide. Many companies we know and use, are funding this by sending money to Isreal to continue bombing, gasing, and shooting the innocent civillians of Gaza. Disney being one of them. Now, I've always loved Disney, and been a huge fan of their creations ever since I was little. They are the animation studio that inspired my art the most, and still do to this day. As you all are probably aware, my blog is known as the "Disney self shipping blog" , my most in-depth and popular self ships being with Hades from Hercules 1997, and Captain Hook from Peter Pan 1953.
So, I know me posting art of these two characters with different versions of myself being in relationships with them isn't directly funding the Disney corporation, but I feel that, as a content creator with somewhat of a platform in the self ship community, it's my responsibility to speak on this subject, as it's one that is weighing heavily on me and has been for most of the week.
I am not muslim, nor do I have any muslim people in my immediate circle, but I don't feel that that matters in the face of a genocide, and having empathy for the people experiencing their world being colonized.
I don't feel that it would be appropriate for me to continue posting art that clearly is meant to mirror the infamous Disney art style, with its characters, and story lines inspiring my self insert stories. I can only see two immediate futures for this blog which are either A. I find a way to pull more inspiration from the original source of my f/os and find a more personal style, while, not entirely disregarding any Disney versions of them, greatly distancing myself from them, and no longer using the Disney tag (as I feel platforming Disney in anyway, no matter how small the scale, will contribute to putting money in their pockets one way or another). Or B. ceasing my Disney self ships indefinitely until it is appropriate (if ever) to start posting them again.
I can't say for certain the future of this blog, I am still drawing and self shipping in my private time, but for now I think it would be best for me to put those to the side when posting online for the foreseeable future.
If I do start posting my Disney self ships again, I will be very clear that I want to distance the art I make from the company, the studio, and put a disclaimer on every piece I post, as I've seen similar blogs to mine do in the past, and I think it does a good job at denouncing the Disney brand/lable while staying true to the art they want to post.
For now though, I want to submit this post as an informal, temporary goodbye. More of a hiatus, until further notice.
And as always, free Palastine 🇵🇸
