I've been fasting recently, and really wanted to during the holidays but I got my period, I was really upset, still am tbh. I wanted to pray and fast as much as I can. Even though I made plans Allah is the best of planners, maybe Allah wanted me to rest. Inshallah I will still be able to fast for some days.

Why Ramy Mirza was excellent Muslim rep

Considering RF Kuang herself is not Muslim, I just have to commend how excellent the South Asian Muslim rep in Babel was as it pertains to Ramy. Literally the first thing Ramy notes upon meeting Robin is how the only thing he can really eat in England is fish (see: most of the meat would not have been halal at the time). He also notes that he threw away the port that his sponsor gifted him. Like right off the get-go it's established that Ramy is practicing Muslim.

We get Ramy reading his Maghrib prayer at sunset. We also learns he is quite annoyed at being forced to go to Church lest he face expulsion, something that he repeatedly asks Allah for forgiveness for. He says inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un when [redacted] dies. He's fearful of staying out in the dark after Maghrib prayer because of jinn. Also, not once does Ramy actively put aside his religious values to fall into the plot. I believe they also talked about Ramy fasting for Ramadan at some point!

Kuang paid a lot of attention to the details to show practicing Muslim rep (which is very different than non-practicing rep). In fact, Kuang did Muslim rep way better than some actual Muslim authors do. I just have to admire it!

Notes on Surah Al-Fatihah

• Ar-Rahman (الرحمان) and Ar-Raheem (الرحيم) come from the root R-H-M/ر-ح-م which means to have mercy, tenderness, kindness, gentleness, pity, and to have all that is required to bestow such.

• Multiple names indicate a noble status: Al-Fatihah (The Opening), Fatihat Al-Kitab (The Opening Of The Book), Umm Al-Kitab (Mother Of The Book), As-Sab Al-Mathani (The Seven Oft Repeated), Surah As-Salah (The Surah Of Prayer), Surah Ar-Ruqyah (The Surah Of Ruqyah), Ash-Shifa (The Cure), Al-Hamd (The Praise)

• Rabb (رب): Meaning the One and Only Lord for all the universe, its Creator, Owner, Organizer, Planner, Master, Sustainer, Provider, Cherisher, and Giver of Security

• There are two types of guidance: Guidance of Taufiq which is solely from Allah ﷻ and Guidance of Irshad which is guidance through dawah.

• All three types of Tawhid are included: Tawhid Ar-Ruboobiyyah (oneness of divine Lordship), Tawhid Al-Uloohiyyah (oneness of divinity) and Tawhid Al-Asma’ Wa’s-Sifaat (oneness of the divine names and attributes).

• “The Opening of the Book, the Essence of the Qur’an, the seven oft-recited verses, the complete healing, the beneficial remedy, the perfect ruqyah, the key to independence of means and success, the preserver of strength, that wards off worry, distress, fear and grief, is for the one who appreciates its value and gives it its due, and tries to apply it in the proper manner to treat his sickness, and knows how to seek healing and treat sickness with it.” -Ibn Al-Qayyim

#polygamy - part 1

I fell into polygamy. It was never planned.

When it was announced to me by my recent husband that he was going to take back his previous wife, I did not know what to think but I certainly felt fear. Because polygamy is what you hear other sisters speak negatively about - despite the fact that most have never lived it.

And then I reminded myself, al-Qadar (pre-decree) is the secret of Allāh.

And from the fundamentals of Īmān is to have true faith in pre-ordainment.

We trust the bus driver to take us to destination, pretty much without thinking, but we don't trust Allāh Our Creator, to write the best of plans for us....?! So I have to trust that Allāh has pre-ordained this for a good reason.

I thank Allāh guided me to trust Him عز و جل.

And I pray all sisters could as well, at least try, not to always fear polygamy, but rather at least consider it, ask Allāh to help them through it.

Listen to what the mashaykh of Ahl-us-Sunnah have to say about it, ponder, take your time....Ask Allāh to open your chest, before you make the decision.

After all she decided that i need to become a Muslimah for her and that she started to teach me how to become a good and respectful Muslimah! She told me it will take time but with time, she said i will learn to accept and love to be a Muslimah for her!
