Here's the thing and I'm not saying it's ok, it's obviously not in any way, shape or form, but since I'm assuming you have all the tags of bucktommy filtered perhaps you haven't seen it. Most of the bucktommy blogs (including ones that also ship buddie) have gotten many many hate asks, insulting them, accusing them of something, and just being incredibly disgusting. You literally can't go to the bucktommy tag without finding many posts of buddie fans who tag bucktommy saying shit about the ship, the actors, and the people who ship them. Saying that bucktommy shippers must feel threatened by buddie going canon and that's why they are rude is absolutely crazy (though there might be some that do, who knows?). Now, I'm sure that going to the buddie tag is also hard to do and there must be people who post shit about buddie and I know there are many blogs that are anti the extreme buddie fans. So, what I'm trying to say is that both ships have people that are purposely posting things to make the others mad, that are actively trying to continue this -frankly- stupid ship war. And they are being racist (on both sides, not just bucktommy shippers, I saw a bucktommy blog from a POC person get an ask calling them the n* word) and just plain awful. So, assuming that buddie blogs are better and do nothing wrong is incorrect, and it goes the other way as well. I really don't understand how people can be so mean, and so self-centered over two ships that who even knows what's going to happen? Everyone, absolutely everyone should do better. No one is better than the other one.

Okay in case you don’t know my blog here is my usual warning that I will be bullet pointing but I promise I’m not trying to be curt/rude (cos you genuinely don’t seem to be on the attack or anything) I just can like explain my thought process better when I can like break it down into chunks 🫡

• I’m assuming you saw either this post which I do end with saying “Like we get it some buddie fans were dicks to you or you disagree or they did something or whatever the fuck but dont start being dicks to an entire fandom???” (Which I feel like it kinda gets the point across of like in general what people shouldn’t do but also it was in the context of me saying that that day there was a surge in the anti buddie fans in the tag, but I also do acknowledge that there will have been buddie fans who have been dicks to them, so I never “assumed that buddie fans are better and never did anything wrong”) Or this one which is just a whole post about why people shouldn’t be misusing tags rather than making people block them and obviously I’m talking in both posts about what I’ve personally seen which is the anti buddie accounts but the principle applies for both and I agree 100% and I did actually make a post earlier than that here where I do talk about both ends and misusing tags as well as not using discourse tags and I talk about both the anti bucktommy/ toxic buddie fans and anti buddie/toxic bucktommy fans so while I understand that you may not have seen that post and out of context it may seem like I only view one side as being better than the other I actually have pointed out before that it’s both and I urge both to just be respectful in fandom spaces, that’s why I even mentioned in the post where I’m complaining about people spamming the buddie tag that I always just politely ask whichever one I see (which again based off what I engage with happens to be the people spamming the buddie tag) but I did make a whole three parter post about how people can improve fandom spaces and how everyone should be doing better

• I actually don’t have the bucktommy tags filtered because as I’ve mentioned before I genuinely don’t dislike them and enjoy seeing their scenes and dynamic they’re just not endgame for me

• okay the racism is a more complicated topic so I do wanna preface this with saying I’m a poc before I have any toxic fans jumping into my inbox calling me a “dumb white bitch” again 😭😭- I don’t know how the racism toward the bucktommy fandom has been -not that any amount of racism is fine obviously like genuinely to those blogs that got shit said I genuinely hope you’re fine- but the toxic bucktommy fans have become a wholeass section of the fandom being racist, which is why I point it out because it’s not one or two incidences but rather an entire subset pushing racist narratives or just posting shit that’s racist u(and again my heart fully goes out to the bucktommy fans who had to deal with people being racist to them I am just personally going based off what I’ve seen and it’s the fact that there are SO MANY racist anti buddie accounts if that makes sense so it’s more widespread in that case)

• as for the comment about toxic bucktommy fans feeling threatened and that’s why there was a rise, i actually didn’t say that but it was pointed out to me by people in my comments and I was like that makes sense and honestly it does because it absolutely tracks that when one side of the fandom is feeling optimistic about something that hints at their ship the other side’s toxic fans will want to put a damper on that, just like I can probably guess that toxic buddie fans probably hounded the bucktommy tag around the time the hospital kiss happened, like it just makes sense

Thanks anon for the ask because I genuinely do agree with most of what you said, and you were respectful with it which I appreciate, but I genuinely urge you in the politest way I can to just check out people’s accounts before sending an ask like this because context is genuinely key and people aren’t gonna be reiterating that it happens on either end when talking about something in the context of one end if that makes sense? And I personally do try to acknowledge it as much as possible even in the posts that I assume you were referring to🫶🫶🫶

I have literally just spent the last few days going through all of the twst supervillain au posts. ALL OF THEM.

It’s not 3 am here for like the third night in a row what are you talking about

I have so many thoughts and could ask so many questions but I am limiting myself for now because spamming is bad! No spamming, me! 😂

SO we got the event of Azul and the twins finding out that Yuu is the child of Crowley. And we got that little snippet saying Yuu wanted Azul to help them tell the other villains so they could just get it out of the way because they were tired of having it hang over their head.

BUT WE NEVER ACTUALLY GOT THOSE SCENES/THAT SCENE!

I wanna know how that wentttttt!!!! What happened?!?! How did it go??? Did Yuu tell them one on one? Or did they sit them all down together? How did each of them react to the news? I feel like it would have to be one on one because telling them altogether would be a recipe for a LOT of emotions all mixed together to create a volatile bomb.

Pleaseeeeee I wanna knowwwwwww!!! Please gift me us with your words of wonder oh supervillain AU writing deity!!!!!!

(Also I just wanted to say back when you were giving out names to everyone my first thought for a name for Kalim was just ‘Minion’ because you compared Jamil and Kalim to Megamind and Minion and I was like “that would be a total Jamil thing to do - just call Kalim ‘Minion’ because he was tired of Kalim getting all the attention in their civilian lives and this was supposed to be about JAMIL DANGIT so even though Kalim invited himself along he doesn’t get a cool name he just gets ‘Minion’ and Kalim would unironically love it. But then you named him Water Boy and that has the same energy lmao 😂)

And basically the answer to your question is that Yuu called a quasi-truce of sorts to sit down all the supervillains to deliver the news. Both because it was the easiest way to avoid the accusations of favoritism that would arise if the reporter went around one at a time, and ensured they’d only need to go through the whole thing once.

Of course, the other six supervillains are only willing to humor this because it’s Yuu that called it. They may have all brought their most trusted aides along with certain, ah, “safety measures” just in case anyone else tries anything, but even these are pretty tame compared to their usual fare. It’s a silent agreement that everyone is on their best behavior in front of their host.

Even if they’re a bit disgruntled by the fact that this meeting is being held in the second Monstro Lounge location, and Leviathan and the Leech twins are flitting around Yuu like a particularly jealous school of fish.

Worse, the reporter isn’t even telling them to stop.

And then Yuu finally comes out with what they want to say and—

Oh.

Oh, now the other supervillains can understand Azul’s protective impulses.

Vil and Idia are having the hardest time processing it and have the most questions, all told. Their mental image of Crowley and their mental image of Yuu are so different after all, it’s a struggle not to ask, “but has there actually been a paternity test and are we sure this isn’t just one of the world’s most depraved lies?”

In fairness, Crowley has done nothing to disabuse them of the notion that this isn’t the exact kind of behavior he would sink to if mildly inconvenienced.

Of all of them, Malleus and Riddle are probably taking it the best. After all, they both know what it’s like being the prized heirs of people who cannot afford to let them shirk their duties. Either because the well being of others’ depends on them taking up that mantle, or their parent’s pride.

Either way, they’ll support Yuu’s search for freedom from their villainous father’s legacy, by taking up the mantle of head of Night Raven themselves if need be.

Please give Leona and Jamil two to five minutes to reboot. Both have partially blue-screened at the motifs of being cast aside and the inesacabilty of family bloodline inherent in Yuu’s backstory. Once they’re back to normal, they’ll be some of Yuu’s staunchest defenders, but give them forty eight hours to process first.

Maybe eighty two.

After Yuu’s answered almost all the questions, Ace butts in, “So, you kept sticking your nose in ‘cause you wanted to get kidnapped?”

Yuu shrugs, “Not, not wanted? But it was a bit less nerve wracking if I knew I’d done something to merit being there, so to speak. Made it less likely that it was because you’d worked out my heritage.”

The other villains and minions nod, satisfied.

But Deuce pipes up with a worried frown curving his brow.

“So, does this mean you won’t be investigating our schemes anymore?”

A hush spreads through the room. All eyes are fixed on the reporter, waiting for their response with bated breath.

Yuu grins, a gloriously competitive spark in their eyes. “Oh, you wish.”

Do you have any advice you're able to give currently on dealing with ableist harassment and dogpiles? It's the whole nine yards - people putting words in our mouth even to the point of claiming we said the opposite of what we said; calling us crazy and insane and saying we should be institutionalized; blaming us for horrific and violent ableist harassment of people who also reblogged the same post we did who disagreed with us; and directly talked over and erased my experiences as a severely disabled person.

(What I said literally boiled down to: "hey, let's not moralize having hobbies because it doesn't make people less capable of harm or more likely to be an asshole, and also please stop saying all disabled people are abled enough to have hobbies because I've been disabled enough before to not be able to have even consumptive (meaning like watching tv or listening to music) hobbies for long stretches of time". There's a similar longer version of that on my personal blog as well, but the harassment is on my shared disability sideblog.)

Like I guess I just... it's okay if people disagree, but the amount of other disabled people who were actively cruel and literally saying people like me don't exist and being so desperate to shut me up talking about my experiences with ableism that they spam harassed the blog is really hard. Like I've been on the internet long enough to know that this is utterly par for the course for disability discourse and even to know that any claim of "can you believe someone said [ridiculous thing] is ableist" is a dogwhistle that it's either manipulation of or outright lies about what the original disabled person actually said in order to shut down the actual conversation but...

I know you've dealt with this, so do you have any more advice on how to handle it than "turn off anon, temporarily turn off asks if necessary, delete the reblog if the harassment gets too much" (already done, mod health comes before discourse as a hard rule)? Especially for like, dealing with the internal emotions about it and not just the situation?

Um also if you don't want to answer this at all feel free to just like, put a stop sign emoji or something and I won't send any more asks about it. I know you publish all asks but since I know this is a stressful subject I still wanna let you know that I will NOT be an unsafe person if you just wanna tell me to fuck off X)

There's no one good way to deal with dogpiles, and you've already listed most of them. A couple more, randomly:

Make sure you take time away. Go see a movie bc it'll make you put your phone away, you know?

Have someone else look at your asks and emails so you ain't gotta.

Report shit. It won't really do anything, but it'll make you feel better, anyway.

If you're actually physically threatened or any of the things really twig your "something is really wrong," make a Google Drive folder and stash screenshots in case shit escalates to you needing to talk to law enforcement. If nothing else, it'll help you feel like you're in control.

The last one is more helpful than you'd think.

natsume's the type to rage in bedwars LMAO. he played with tsumugi once and he almost murdered him for letting the bed get destroyed after looking away for 2 minutes. he's so good at the game though, it's scary. (tryhard!)

AIPAC is behind most of the pro-Irsael to the point of cutting $14 billion from our IRS budget to help fund their military type craziness. Most US politicians are in their pocket and they are also the ones pushing legislation to make criticizing the Israel government illegal in the US and deporting all Palestinians in the US and just a shit ton of other anti-Arabic foreign policy.

Also a reminder that Netanyahu (Israeli Prime Minister, currently under investigation by the International Criminal Court for war crimes from before and after the continued siege of Gaza started) and his extremist administration are pushing for "Greater Israel" which would involve conquering Jordan, Lebanon, parts of Iraq, Syria, and Saudi Arabia. The proposed map looks like this:

There are many ways American imperialism and Evangelical Zionism would benefit from this map. It gives an American ally control of natural gas reserves off the coast of Gaza, it gives access to build the Ben Gurion Canal and the ability to construct an oil pipeline from Saudi Arabia into Europe and dominate the energy sector. It also allows America to funnel its Jewish population out of America without expressly deporting them. There is literally so much wrong with this.

But Americans can protest AIPAC directly and attempt to sever the connection between this lobbying group and our politicians. First by checking if our reps have already accepted AIPAC money (I recommend using opensecrets.org but googling usually works just as well), contacting them, and telling them that if they continue to accept AIPAC and AIPAC affiliate donations you will volunteer for thier opposition in the coming election. Then try to find a candidate running who doesn't accept AIPAC money and volunteer or donate for their campaign. Also, you don't have to be a politician's constituent to contact them. This means you can spam-fax their office or mail them physical form letters demanding action against Israel's genocide. These physical documents must be handled by actual staff and preserved so this is very disruptive for them.

AIPAC also has a website with a contact form and phone number you can call.

I would recommend filling the name and address fields with junk information (nothing too obvious for them to filter out) and then type whatever you would like to say in the actual message part.

And it wasn't hard for me to find a mailing address for them either.

However it is unlikely this is the only office they have, or that office even has many workers in it. Also if I can successfully convince people to pester them like we did to all those republican rallies in 2020, they can ask Google to remove that info and then remove their contact info from their website.

If we can disrupt AIPAC we can do a lot more good, not just for Palestine, but for Israel and other American backed genocides like in Congo and Sudan.

This guy literally made the group chat, and then as soon everyone was added, he muted that shit immediately.

"Nope. This is too much."

Rarely talks in the chat, if at all, but occasionally the boys will see him pop in or see that he's online. Maybe sometimes he'll like something that Nick sent or respond with a thumbs up if you're super lucky.

The guys will start freaking out like; "SANS!? SANS IS HERE!"

Only for him to immediately leave again.

The boys have to DM Sans directly if they really need him to respond or see something.

He just prefers hanging out in person, is all. In person he's the life of the party. He's just nigh impossible to get ahold of.

Nick: The Planner

He actually uses the group chat for its intended purpose: planning in person get togethers and band rehearsals.

Always sending live show flyers or Event invites like "guys we have to go to this thing!" Only for his stuff to get buried under Jonas and Midas's constant spamming.

"I need to just invest in Remind for you pricks."

But because Nick is adamant their plans usually do come to fruition. It's just a matter of herding cats for him.

Some other uses for the group chat:

He sends lyrics and music bytes he writes & records to the chat to hear feedback.

Spreads current politics/news and information about protests, or local organizations to volunteer at.

Jonas: Meme spammer

Exactly as the name suggests. This guy fills the group chat with every meme and Tik tok he happens to find even a little funny.

He is Nick's greatest enemy, because it's always Jonas doing the burying with his silly like jokes. It's not intentional or malicious, he is just easily distracted.

Will always be trying to start a group call so he can just vibe with his friends at all hours of the night.

He and Alphys talk the most to each other. They just yap on and on.

Constantly sending videos of new tricks he learned on the skateboard, only for Midas to tell him he looks goofy.

Midas: The Instigator

This boy liiiiives for the drama.

Anytime Jonas begins sending memes while Nick is trying to plan he'll be like "epic Jonas moment," or "imagine interrupting our supreme leader," or even better, "thank the stars we changed the subject," which never fails to get both Nick and Jonas riled up

Midas just mutes with a shitty little grin on his face as chaos ensues.

It's all in good fun. He's just a much of a hype man as he is everyone's personal menace.

Especially for Maeve.

When Jonas sends videos of him doing a cool trick, Midas does the same trick with a finger skateboard and makes a joke like "mine's way sicker."

The embodiment of this emoji: 😈

Never sends pictures of himself. He never really knows if he can trust cameras with his eyes. It's just a constant thing he has to be conscious of, unfortunately.

Alphys: Chronically online / Talkative

She is the first to open the groupchat any time someone sends anything. Immediate responses.

Some say it's being chronically online, some say it's a crippling fear of being forgotten, either way she's the first to speak.

Double texts like no one's business. No one mind's though, she's just got a lot to say and she's a lot more confident online than irl. Less stuttering.

Will ask if people want to go on a convenient store run with her at 3 am. For some reason, Sans actually responds? (it's because they're both awake. The boys will read over the chats and go insane.)

Is constantly sending pictures of cute girls like "omg, should I talk to her? Should I ask if she's gay? omg"

Only for Midas to be like "why are you taking pictures of random people."

If someone begins venting to the chat she's the one to try ad offer advice and comfort before anyone else.

Maeve: The Tea Spiller

"Guys, you're never gonna believe what happened/who I saw/what I heard--"

"Oh my god, I need to tell my girls!" she says about her groupchat filled with rambunctious boys and a lesbian.

The tea can range from political talk, petty school/subculture scene gossip all the way to, "Oh my stars, I just saw a squirrel steal an acorn from another squirrel! Someone call TMZ!"

She's the first to know about anything going on outside of the friend group.

But also the first to defuse gossip beginning to spread within the friend group.

"Hey, let's not talk behind Sans's back. If you have a problem, you need to go to him. Don't be a coward."

She usually calls Midas down from his gremlin hours and laugh the hardest at Jonas's memes.

All around amazing friend. Always keeps the conversation interesting. LOVE HER!

Bonus:

Frisk: Fit Check!

Sans reared his face in the group chat just to warn them that he was adding Frisk. (He only does this after having a discussion about it with Nick in dms to make sure it's okay and won't be weird)

Frisk doesn't really look at it a lot since she prefers just talking to Sans, but she does enjoy having access to everyone she considers her friends.

Uses the groupchat as a personal hype train. Will send a picture of her trying on a cool alternative outfit at the mall like "what do you guys think? Any suggestions to make it cooler?"

Midas, Nick and Maeve give actual fashion advice, meanwhile Alphys and Jonas are always too busy telling her how pretty she is.

Sans doesn't know how to feel about it... contemplating on kicking her but so far it's been sweet and innocent. He's weirdly more active.

Probably doesn't mean anything.

Blog Interaction Guidelines

So in the early stages of making this blog, I was once asked about "rules" for interacting, and pretty much responded with something to the effect of "I really don't have much to say outside of please be respectful and know that there's no place for hate/discrimination here". I have never ran a public blog before this and I felt a little weird telling people how they "should" conduct themselves. In fact, I still kinda do feel this way and prefer to deal with potential problems quietly. However, I've decided to revisit this idea now that this blog is nearing 800 followers. These guidelines are more specifically about things that have been happening repeatedly that I honestly just want to set some boundaries about:

- This is a dipplinshipping account, so the content posted/reblogged here has and will continue to be about dipplinshipping and pokemon. No hate to other fandoms or even other ships - I'm just not necessarily going to interact with unrelated content because it's outside of the scope of this blog. (Referencing other medias in asks about dipplinshipping/pokemon is totally fine, though!)

- I do not take headcanon/writing requests for OCs. Again, no hate, this is just not a self ship blog. I do take headcanon submissions related to dipplinshipping (and react/add onto them). I don't mind headcanon requests about the ship either because it's related.

- Please do not spam my inbox with repetitive messages. And by this I quite literally mean verbatim, word-for-word messages. (They're often unrelated to anything, too). I consider this harassment at a point.

- Please do not submit underaged/graphic/horror content, and/or ship content about minors and adults. Yes I've gotten these, yes they're highly inappropriate.

- Everything in this post (TLDR - please don't send "demanding" asks about my writing, e.g., repetitive, insistent questioning regarding updates, not-so-politely worded “requests” to either abandon certain storylines or add something into a storyline, or expressions of high dissatisfaction/disapproval for when I’m choosing to write for something other than Sweet & Sour Dipplins, which is my most popular work.)

- If you don't like a character I like, that's fine. You do not need to interact with me about it. I do not interact with you about what you should like or dislike.

I will delete your comments or asks if you don't have nice things to say about others and their ideas. Be respectful.

- People seem to have the impression that I own servers on discord. I do not own any servers nor am I looking to continuously advertise servers that are not mine. Please go to the appropriate people if you are interested in joining a server.

- I try my best to keep this blog more on the PG side since this audience is more generalized/might have more variety in age. Many of you may follow me because I'm the author of Sweet & Sour Dipplins, where there's a time skip that ages the characters and has a suggested audience of mid to late teens and up (and in general is meant to be more in this YA genre). It's more than okay to send me stuff that references some of the themes depicted in there and in other works I may write for audiences that go beyond a general audience. I often get really funny and iconic asks in this direction, actually. But! Know that because I'm aware of the general audience on here, I might not be able to post and interact with you publicly about it (especially as people who don't read the fic don't have the context). ADDRESSING COMMON QUESTIONS because even though I've said and state this in my rules, i want to make it clear by actually writing it out myself.

HOW MANY MEMES CAN I SEND? I genuinely mean it when I say send as many as you want. I've had several people send me 20+ memes at once and i sit there Delighted to see them every time. More memes often means multiple dynamics and different situations, and can give me a lot more to work with if i'm feeling a certain genre of writing. The question is how often do you want to see me in your notifs because i do try to answer all the memes I get. So it's a challenge. You spam me, I spam you. mutual exchange. ( and 4 is NOT spamming okay, you gotta hit at least 8 before you can call it spamming in this establishment. )

YOU REBLOGGED THIS MEME AGES AGO, CAN I STILL SEND SOMETHING IN? My memes don't have any time limits on them. I could have reblogged it back in January and if you want to send it in, go for it. The only ones might be like the 'next ten asks' memes since those are for 10 but the common, typical meme? Go wild.

IS IT OKAY TO TURN THIS INTO A THREAD? I literally write my meme replies with the intention of making it easier for people to continue if they want to. New post, and i try to end my meme responses in a way that lets people continue them with ease. I LOVE threads, I've legitimately had 15+ threads with just one person ( not including all my threads with others). So please, if you want to turn something into a thread, literally just take it and run. I'm genuinely thrilled every time someone is inspired or liked a response enough to continue it.

SOMEONE ALREADY ANSWERED THIS OPEN - CAN I STILL ANSWER IT? Yes! This isn't a lottery ticket or first come first serve. If you see an open and you want to answer it, go for it! I encourage it! People can take one open and make them vastly different and its so fun to see how people interpret or build the scenario or how different characters and dynamics lead to different things even from the same open!

I WANT TO WRITE WITH [MUSE] BUT I DON'T KNOW THEM. CAN I STILL? / DO YOU WRITE CROSSOVERS ? Yes! I'll be honest here. I am FAR, FAR more prone to straight up crossovers than making fandom specific AUs. Sure, I sometimes might. But I love straight up crossovers way more, whether its your muse coming to my world or mine going ot yours. Most of my muses come from sources where ending up in another universe could genuinely happen as well so its not hard to do. I'm always happy to discuss who goes to what world. I think its fun ; plus it makes muse interactions all the more genuine for me in a way since if I don't know the muse, it doesn't somehow influence my muse either. And I'm always happy to share any relevant information to them!

DO YOU WRITE WITH OCS / CANON DIVERGENT / ETC. I do! I genuinely love writing with OCs and I know sometimes it can be hard. I've personally dropped all my OCs because of that. So I try my best to give them attention and build bonds between the characters. And same goes for Canon Divergent! It might need some discussion depending if it effects my muse somehow, but I am genuinely absolutely here for it !

I hope some of this might offer relief to you guys who might have been wondering about these things. I tried to think up common questions / sources of anxiety that people have in the RPC and really write it out here. I'm sure I've missed some and you can feel free to write in the comments or send an ask if there's a question / topic you're wondering about. I definitely feel like i'm missing some pretty obvious ones, but I think these are ones that I've had come up most frequently when interating with new people so maybe this will offer

I'm sorry if I sometimes come off as an attention seeker or just an asshole for saying that my art sucks, I got used to this on insta so if anyone tells me that I suck I can just say Yeah... I said it in the description already

This place is absolutely better than insta I like how I can post a picture here without being cropped, I don't feel the urge to watch those short annoying ass videos and I can write stuff here without pictures and without having to worry about others seeing it and calling me lil nigga or some pedophile joke. Some of them are funny but now they are overused, annoying, and not like anyone would take this seriously, so it's literally just a waste of space and a terrible tiktok level "joke"

I think what most people on Instagram don't seem to know is that it's a platform, made for posting whatever is allowed on there... But here on Tumblr I feel much safer and way less ashamed after I post something.

(Yes, I talk without censorship. I don't know if that's offensive or bad for me to do so. Either way, you'll know what word I wanted to write down and no one will be hurt by me saying an example, that many people mass spam in literally every comment section where the video they saw is not appealing for them, like a child showing off something they learnt or made, or some cosplay stuff, anything that could be classified as cringe by a young adult or older teenager)

He walks down into a darkened cellar looking for a monster for this kid. ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

PLUS you get to see Steve having his little Life Crisis because what does anything MATTER if there are MONSTERS and actually all he wants is to settle down with Nancy and Nancy is, once again, Onto Something because of Barb

ALSO DUSTIN TELLS TED OFF.

He also adopts!!! a baby monster!!!!

And you get to meet MAX. God, she's the best. I fucking love her. You HAVE to meet Max because she lives across the street from Eddie, and she needs protecting from her older brother because he's an ASSHOLE you will adopt her just as fast as you adopted El and want to both wring Mike's neck and cuddle the hell out of him because he misses El SO MUCH but he calls out for her on the radio every night to tell her that he's still there, he's still waiting, he still misses her and she is listening on her radio but she can't TELL HIM because it's not SAFE for EITHER of them and *sobbing*

plus you get to see El and Hopper love each other and try to have a completely dysfunctional little family together. They are both so broken and they are trying SO HARD.

Why is there a D in Fridge but not in Refrigerator?

(This is going somewhere important. Stick with me).

Scrolling through TikTok. I see this. Interesting question. Let's dive in, shall we?

Well, I can see immediately the root 'frig', as in frigid, which I assume means cold. A quick google tells me I'm right, it comes from the latin-rooted word frigerate, meaning 'to make cold'. Re- means to do again, and -or makes the word the doer, so refrigerator literally means 'a thing that makes things cold again'. Beautiful, I love language.

Fridge looks like just a shortened version of that. When spoken aloud (as it initially would have been), it would sound like "fridge", but written 'frig' or 'frige', it wouldn't look right to our english-reading eyes. The 'g' in frig should be hard, and the 'i' in frige looks like it should be pronounced long, like 'eye'. But handily, we already have words that sound like fridge - ridge, bridge, etc. Although refrigerator is missing the d and makes to us sense because it follows the latin-based rules, as a single syllable word these rules wouldn't work. So we take what we've got and spell it how it sounds, based on rhymes. Fridge.

Brilliant. What a satisfying question. Let's take a dive into the 900+ comments on the video and see who else got it right?

I am not joking when I say I scrolled through hundreds of comments before I found anything close to the right answer. The rest were this - wildly incorrect guesses presented as fact, mostly centered around the brand Frigidaire.

And hey. Not everyone is a nerd, and no one is right about things all the time. But the word refrigerator predates Frigidaire, we know this. In fact, Frigidaire was founded by a company called Guardian Refrigeration Company. It's in the second line of their Wikipedia article. It took me all of two seconds to find this info.

But this answer has been absolutely spammed in the comments - there are a few comments that point out the linguistic nature of the issue, but they're literally hundreds of comments in, with no more than one like (at best!) and so entirely lost to the comment section. No one who clicks on the comments looking for the answer to the riddle will see them. They will instead see a million upvoted comments claiming it's to do with Frigidaire.

None of this matters, really. It's some obscure linguistic etymology stuff; an interesting conundrum, and nothing more. It's not important.

But also... it kind of is. Because this is how our information works now. It's through apps like TikTok (and Twitter, and Youtube, and even Tumblr, which aren't really any better) that information spreads. Not just this piece of trivia. A million pieces of trivia. A billion pieces of trivia. Incorrect because someone took a guess and some other people liked their answer and decided it was right. Even though it wasn't.

I can see exactly how it happened. The correct answers, buried in the comments, either weren't made fast enough, or just weren't cool enough. They didn't sound right. They didn't capture people's interest, or they seemed a bit more made up than the Frigidaire explanation, despite them being the actual truth.

So no one liked them, and everyone liked the Frigidaire comments, and now anyone who quickly checks the comments can very reasonably assume there is a consensus on Frigidaire being the origin of the word. A bunch of people took a wild guess at something they didn't know, and didn't bother to google their answer. They posted something they thought probably happened, and the rest of TikTok liked it and upvoted it and legitimised it, so now anyone who sees this video will come away with the wrong information. And repeat ad infinitum for every video ever.

There's a lot of factors that contribute to this issue, most of which I have neither the knowledge or capability to address. The lack of human moderation, the inability to downvote, the instantaneous nature of platforms and their short-form content that leaves no room for discussion or pause to debate and verify. Responses that get lost in seas of comments, doomed never to be seen if they weren't made early and pithy. The many shortfalls of 2020s social media is an essay in itself.

But this, if anything, shows the important of fact checking. This isn't a problem because people were wrong - this is a problem because the platform has no effective mechanism to facilitate debate/disagreement or check that things being said are correct. And this is an issue because people are not fact-checking themselves, or each other. Frigidaire doesn't even have a D before the G - it doesn't make sense for that to be the origin. But people swallowed it, hook, line, and sinker, because it fit their preconceived (American) notions of how words work.

Question things. If you see statements with blanket assertions that no one has challenged - you're the challenger now. Google it. Verify it. Post a question or a request for clarification, just to see what the original commenter really knows. Do it for stupid things, like the origins of the word "Fridge" - not because it's important, but because it's a good habit to get into, and because, in the grand scheme of things, this stuff does matter. It does matter that truth and accuracy and facts are valued above things we feel might be true, or things that seem true.

But also, definitely do it for the important stuff too. Because when things get bigger than this - that's how you get Trump. That's how you get antivaxxers. Misinformation is perhaps THE biggest threat we face today. We can all think of terrible things that have happened because people were told things that might be true but weren't.

Those are the big ones. But it starts small. It starts here. In the replies on youtube comments, in the downvotes on reddit, in the reblogs on tumblr. It starts with every single one of us.

aww ok lemme see if i can recap anything that i remember! it was hosted by the composers of the weird biopic, zach and leo something, ill check in a min

they were talking about their favourite score cues in the weird movie, they really liked the theme that played when dani-Al reunites with his dad. they said that at one point in the movie they had a version of al's theme based on madonna's holiday (which made me pog cos i love that song but hadnt noticed)

al said he wrote now you know in 5/4 time (which i hadnt noticed either) and that it was his first and only song in 5/4, and that he must have been feeling jazzy and progressive lol

someone asked who als favourite pool party cameo was and he was like "theyre all my friends, i dont want someone to get jealous" paraphrasing btw not direct quotes i cant remember exactly what was said

eric appel also joined the stream briefly! to show off a bunch of props he had in his office like the golden bust, the Hay Boy, and a tiny drumset, but then he had to leave. after he left the guys hosting said "theres a bunch of people in the chat saying "who was that guy?" like guys that was the director of the movie" it was like oh my god

also people were SPAMMING fortnite and the guys asked al if he plays fortnite or wants to be in fortnite and he was like "No i dont play fortnite but i guess if they approached me about it i wouldnt say no" then everyone in chat was yelling at him to hit the griddy

they asked him what games he plays and he said he had the taste in games of a 14 year old boy but at that point I fucking spilled my drink everywhere :( so i missed most of that conversation

THIS WAS IMPORTANT. right at the end al said to one of them (cant remember who - the one on the right? i know their names are leo and zach) something like "you were talking about your favourite weird al song in a panel and said it was "windows 95 sucks" and the guy said "yeah! i love that song man!" and al said "yeah well actually i didnt write that song" and they both were literally like :O!!! and everyone was cracking up and al jokingly called him out for downloading his music like "i feel like you found that on napster" KFJHSG. thats the real consequences of music piracy, kids - not hitting children w your car or selling crack going to jail or denying artists their diamond encrusted swimming pools - the fucking real Weird Al may call you out publicly for misattributing parodies to him. the guy took it well i have to say. like he looked very embarrassed but he handled it fine. i would have died.

If another neurodivergent person with multiple mental illnesses and conditions is "anxiety inducing" to other "neurodivergent people" by having a clear cut and forward page about their own boundaries for interacting with them on their own blog ... To the point you feel the need to send them a completely random Hate Anon about "typical Wiccan behavior" instead of just moving on if it ain't for you?

Then you have far bigger mental issues (and multiple issues at that, clearly) to deal with than my incredibly limited request for literally the barest, and most basic iota of respect because I don't want to be treated like a brainless content farm by zombies who can't be bothered to interact with me like a person anymore ... In an age of social media which actively encourages everyone on the internet to treat each other as subhuman.

Like, starting with your exact participation in that system by sending Hate Anons in the first place ... Though, honestly, I literally cannot fathom how the core ideas of:

"Don't have a blank blog because it's common tumblr courtesy to show others you're not spam; actually customize your blog and I'm going to assume you're spam or just not putting in any effort to learn this site's etiquette (etc), if you don't"; and

"Actually interact with me and my original (non-content) posts or go away, because there's no point to you being on a personal blog unless you're interacting with the PERSON behind said blog", and

"I actually DO pay attention to who follows me, so I will boot you if you don't follow my rules and / or I just don't like the content of your blog and think you'll wind up being Drama"

Is so difficult for people to understand- or even "anxiety inducing" on any level ... Let alone "typical Wiccan behavior"; like oh no someone asked you to treat them like a person- and then told you exactly how to do that, and what behavior makes them feel Human online!

A. I love having clear cut knowledge of exactly how to interact with people in their spaces. It's so nice. Some people aren't like that, though, and that's cool. You don't have to be. But don't piss on others who do because you don't like "the rules" you were handed for their spaces. Especially using your own neurodivergency as an excuse to do so, oh my God ??? Grow up; you're not the only model of neurodivergency to exist.

B. Y'all are really reaching with that one, wow. Because I literally had these rules well before I was even Wiccan. It has nothing to do with Wicca. And the absolute best irony is that I got praised for this same exact set of rules before I started calling myself NeoWiccan, and told it was "so nice to have a clear set of boundaries to follow" by other Anons ... But now that I'm calling myself Wiccan, suddenly it's bad and "Typical Wiccan Behavior"; your hypocrisy's showing BIG time, y'all.

C. Though, like, frankly? At least you could've had enough respect to put your name to it so I can avoid clearly anti-Wiccan people in this shit hole. Because if you don't want to interact with me because I'm Wiccan, I'm more than happy to oblige because I don't want to interact with y'all either; I keep a permanent block list of people from the Wiccans DNI tag so I don't bother y'all. Y'all could have the same basic fucking courtesy. Good Lord.

You don't have to be here. I am not holding a gun to your head and saying "you must follow me or else" ... If you don't want to be here because you think it's too much effort to actually treat me like a human being, cool. Clearly my blog isn't for you, and I wouldn't want you here anyways.

Hate Anons are literally the last thing you need to send, however. Just move on instead of acting like a child; go back to Twitter or whatever other platform you came from where that behavior's acceptable, if that's your way of interacting with people and you're going to get big mad about someone putting their foot down and saying "not here in my personal space".

so obviously i have my likes and limits on my pinned post but . they're vague and not really detailed so why not expand upon some of them and add some.

this is a terrible idea because i'm giving all my switchy friends ammo to use against me!! but that just means i'll have to get better at resistance. which is definitely possible because i'm most certainly not extremely easy haha...

disclaimer: yes! i do let people, anon or not, hypnotize me through asks, and maybe dms if discussed beforehand. however, that still requires respecting my limits. i'm all down for being a little hypnotoy you can take for a joy ride, but i am still a person. there hasn't been problems so far (knock on wood) but i'm saying it anyways just in case.

okay, now the fun stuff below the cut:

fractionation - pretty self explanatory. if you start rapid fire fractionating me, my brain becomes mush. particularly effective with the words up/down and drop/wake. on that same note ...

rapid fire/trigger spam - okay so trigger spamming is silly sometimes because it reminds me of like. a starter tist you'd find on reddit or something that just spams the word sleep at you hoping it'll work. but when used tastefully? holy fuck. not giving me the time to recover/think about it is your best shot at getting me down

resistance/bratting - these themselves aren't weaknesses but they're likes that have weakness within them. if you can eventually convince me that i want to drop and obey more than i want to resist and win, then you'll get me. this isn't as easy as you think, because i am quite stubborn, competitive, and i like winning.

being sleepy - this doesn't even really need explanation, but i am very easy when tired. but i mean tired tired, because i'm tired 24/7 anyway lol. but catching me after waking up either in the morning or from a nap makes it harder for me to fight. that and if i'm straight up just sleep deprived, like i only got 2 hours or i've been up for 16+ hours, i'm even easier.

instant inductions/unexpected triggers - this ties into the same reasoning for rapid fire—not giving me time. i will most likely drop and then wake myself up, so you have those few seconds of vulnerability before i recover to do something.

covert/conversational inductions - also relatively explanatory. for covert in particular, if i don't notice that you're trancing me then i won't know that i'm being entranced. and i can't fight against something i don't notice. for conversational, i will definitely notice at some point. it's just dependent on how early i notice to be able to fight it off.

whatever the fuck you call what this ask was - i'm bad at words so i don't know what to identify this as but this? holy fuck. this just slides into my brain so easily dhfjfj. 💖 you didn't see this

"____ for me" - i made this a post and it blew up for no reason dhfhg. i am way more likely to obey a command if you throw a for me on there.

praise - i'm very easily flustered so lots of praise gets me into a very blushy, shy, keysmashing state, which could be used to make me fuzzy.

dumbification - making me feel all dumb gets me so easy. calling me dumb, dummy, or a ditz or trying to get me to giggle makes me just fhfhtjg

confusion - it is not hard to confuse me like . at all. literally just throw some "if you're thinking about not thinking then are you thinking?" or "forget to remember, remember to forget" or make up = down and down = up n i'm all yours.

amnesia - if i'm fuzzy and you tell me to forget about something then there's a good chance of it working. especially when it's slipped in casually, like "oh, nevermind, forget i said anything" and i'll have a moment of like wha-? where my mind decides whether or not to do it. some reassurance, like "that's right, you can just forget" or "don't worry about it" will probably work.

"must _____" - a command preceeded by must (only must, not you must) is extremely compelling to me and hard to resist.

cock - i'm not expanding on this, you know who you are shfhrhfurhf

mantras/repetition - if you give me a mantra that's gonna be stuck in my head for a while. or making me repeat something, or asking questions that have the same single answer

trance recall - if you make me think of a trance i've recently been in, i get all fuzzy and my eyes flutter as if i'm feeling the same thing again.

post-trance fuzziness - in switch fights, if i didn't lose then i'm definitely fuzzy as fuck and a bit fractionated. if you pretend it's over and then catch me by surprise, that might secure you a last ditch victory.

anyways, i will probably update this if i think of more but. yeah i just made resisting 100x harder for myself dhfh
