I've been on a quality healthy romance books kick (not dissing toxic romances, I love that shit) but
God Bless authors that do mental health right
That teach me without feeling like I'm being taught cause fuck yall are the REAL ONES 👏👏❤️👏👏❤️👏👏❤️👏👏❤️👏👏❤️👏👏
Specifically this is my shout out to:
Penny Reid who's book Beard in Mind depicts REAL OCD and I will now forever be judgemental of the half ass versions in media
Chloe Liese who's Bergman brothers series taught me about autism from autistic perspective (and validated suspicions I have about myself) as well as the struggles of chronic bowel disease, showed me what arguments in healthy relationships look like and blessed me with bisexuals making out in a bookstore 🥵
Mazey Eddings for her Brush with love series which validates ADHD as a disability (my ADD is different than Lizzies because im introverted but it still means a lot to me personally) and the plus one WRECKED me PTSD dudes if you need to hear that you're valid and deserve to be happy this author is here 👏 to 👏 tell 👏 you 👏
And shout out to all three for putting their characters in therapy (INCLUDING the ACTUAL THERAPIST CHARACTER) NORMALIZE 👏THAT 👏SHIT👏

One time I was in the psych ward because of my severe OCD and intrusive thoughts and was SO upset because I couldn’t find any rep/ books about people with similar experiences, so I wrote a 72,000 word YA romance novel about a girl with severe OCD and her boyfriend…
…anyway, if you’ve read this far, you might as well follow @UnthinkableThingsNovel on Insta & TikTok to read more about this book and help me get it published 😳😳🫶

I’ve been feeling super discouraged lately.
I’m not exactly sure what the problem is but I’ve felt “less than” as a writer as of late. I took a short break from writing my WIP because I was self editing it to shreds.
I’ve been using this break to catch up on reading. I started out with a few of my fav comfort books but I think I just need to get into something new in order to take a step back from my WIP.
I going to spend my night scrolling. Something new catches my eye
And I would just like to say how thankful I am that I found this community!
I’ll take any recs in the comments if you want to leave one. :) <3

My rating of The Iron Trial:(please read)
OMG I LOVED THIS!!!! IT DEFINITELY CAN RIVAL YHE LIGHTING THIEF AND THE PHILOSOPER’S STONE!!! The world and plot is unique and the magic system is so so so good.
I love the characters, they all got something going on. Call is definitely my favorite character, I like his personality and the fact that he’s morally gray.
The relationship between the main trio is wonderful and strong. I also love how even tho Call is the mc he isn’t the “chosen one” and that Aaron is more like that. But what I really wanna talk about is the plot twist. Because what. The. Fuck. I never ever saw that coming like??? It’s definitely unique for me and also supports the fact that Call is definitely not the chosen one in this story bcs he got an another role even tho he doesn’t want it.
The only problem I have is that the fandom is so so small;( I don’t understand why because it’s made by two extremely popular and successful writers and it’s seriously as good as Pjo. Maybe i understand later in the books but don’t give away any spoilers!!
For those who have never heard of this book:
“Think you know magic? Think again. The Magisterium awaits... During your time at the Magisterium, there will be five trials to complete — one for each school year. They will test your magical skill, your endurance and your ability to handle dark and dangerous situations. It begins with the Iron Trial . . .”
“Most kids would do anything to pass the Iron Trial. Not Callum Hunt. He wants to fail. All his life, Call has been warned by his father to stay away from magic. If he succeeds at the Iron Trial and is admitted into the Magisterium, he is sure it can only mean bad things for him. So he tries his best to do his worst -- and fails at failing. Now the Magisterium awaits him. It's a place that's both sensational and sinister, with dark ties to his past and a twisty path to his future. The Iron Trial is just the beginning, for the biggest test is still to come . . .“
Tumblr media
This is the cover for the first book. Call is on the left(the mc)(the fact that he’s not in the middle but Aaron is just shows my opinion that Aaron is the “chosen one”) Aaron is in the middle and Tamara is on the right.
It’s not a long book so please consider reading it, I’m really begging you(´༎ຶོρ༎ຶོ`)

Dr. Gabor Maté On How Trauma Fuels Disease | Rich Roll Podcast
Dr. Gabor Maté: “This culture is not one that supports healthy human growth.
And how social conditions, how inequality of stress, how genderism or racism actually has physiological impacts. They affect our biology. This is not speculation. Trauma has many implications. Trauma has been implicated in autoimmune disease, in cancer, in addictions, in every mental health condition in the book.
But the average medical student does not receive a single lecture on trauma, which is unbelievable, but it’s true. Biologically, medical students age faster than other people their age because of the stress they’re under. So, you got this traumatized population treating the larger traumatized population without any awareness of trauma.
We have certain emotional needs as human beings, that this society not only fails to meet, but actually tramples on very deliberately and very chronically. So, a lot of children get traumatized, not just by what happens to them, but what doesn’t happen to them that should have happened.”

Cycles exist because they are excruciating to break. It takes an astronomical amount of pain and courage to disrupt a familiar pattern. Sometimes it seems easier to just keep running in the same familiar circles, rather than facing the fear of jumping and possibly not landing on your feet. It Ends With Us.

I have read a lot more books than last year, partly because I was going through it with my mental health at the beginning of the year and couldn't watch TV, but I'm happy I seem to have gotten back into reading. My mental health is in a good place how but I'm still finding time to read which is great. I also gave myself permission to not give books ratings on Goodreads because assigning a star value to books was majorly stressing me out for some reason.
Anyway I hope I'll be more active on here with book content again. I would love some book recommendations from the best books you read this year, or just something fun or good you think I should read!

maybe a shot in the dark, but does anyone have recommendations for fiction books about Dissociative Identity Disorder?
I’m looking more specifically for actual clinical DID—so not “there are magical spirits taking host in my body in this fantasy world”—and of course nothing that deals with ‘murderer’ alters or Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde themes.
The pickings are SO slim that I don’t even mind if you didn’t like the book.
As of right now I’ve only found Pretty Girl-13.
