that question is sparked by me seeing a very obnoxious (i.e. eyestrain to the point of inducing a headache) dni banner that lists "bi lesbians" on it and I look at the person's carrd and they have "anti-neopronoun/xenogender/mogai" listed right underneath "bi lesbians/lesboys/etc and supporters"
and i am just. feeling a little crazy. because i genuinely do not understand this fsdjkl i feel like... if you are supportive of xenogenders then you should understand gender is complex and doesn't line up nicely with sexuality labels sometimes so you have to twist things to make them fit right for you and your internal experience... this is why we have cool labels like cloudgender and stargender and all that fun stuff!! these labels are cool! they are good! so why suddenly are we saying that lesbians and gays who do not fit the traditional "i am solely a woman attracted solely to other only-ever-women" box are wrong and bad ?
i dont want to be saying horrible things bc im misunderstanding or straight up not seeing the issue though, so genuinely if anyone has insight please tell me because im so beyond confused at this point

Thinking about the crazy love triangle situation in Blue Eye Samurai and debating heavily with myself on how I'd like to see it conclude. And yeah this discussion can be thought of purely as shipping, headcanons, and fandom fun. But when analysing the show and engaging with it in a more in-depth, almost-literary level, it's impossible to dismiss who Mizu's potential love interests are and how different endgame romances would affect her character arc and the overall story and themes.
So in this post I'd like to look at the love triangle a bit more closely, and speculate on where the story will take this.
DISCLAIMER: It is my personal interpretation of the text that Mizu is non-binary—I use this as an umbrella term denoting any gender that does not adhere to the binary restrictions, norms, and expectations of what it means to be either a man or woman in a particular society; it's not just an androgynous "third gender" that exclusively uses they/them pronouns. Thus, while I personally believe Mizu is not strictly a cis woman, she does still identify with womanhood, despite definitely feeling a level of detachment from it due to living as a man for so long. With that being said, I will be using she/her pronouns for Mizu in this post, but please note that this is purely personal preference. Everyone is free to interpret the text the way they like. That's the fun of fiction. Now, without further ado, let's proceed.
Okay so, thinking about the pairings on a purely surface level, and even before i got into the show, I was pinning my hopes on some lesbianism going on between Mizu and Akemi, and the show does hint at this; in Ep1, during their first encounter in Kyoto, there is the famous slow-mo shot of their eyes meeting, Mizu's lips slightly parted as she is unable to tear her gaze away from Akemi, while sweet string music plays in the background. This is clear romantic framing, and a marker of attraction. If Mizu was a cishet man, there would be no question that this is a potential love interest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But then, in the same episode, we meet Taigen, who is introduced to us firstly from hearing Akemi's father describe him as "a fierce and undefeated young samurai", the "best swordsman in the best school" and "a fisherman's son from Kohama [...] whose rise reminds [him] of [his] own."
In the next scene, we meet him in person as Akemi's fiance, and he seems sweet enough. He even gives her sweets! In exchange, Akemi gives him gold, and he feels a bit ashamed that he doesn't have anything better to offer her. But Akemi accepts him and his gift wholeheartedly and flirts with him a little, which makes him smile kinda shyly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Akemi confirms their engagement, Taigen is in disbelief because he has no status or noble background, but Akemi reassures him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So from these first few scenes, we're introduced to Taigen as an honourable and strong samurai, but also as a man who is sweet and gentle with the woman he is about to marry, as well as aware of his own inferiority when compared to Akemi's high station.
Our view of him then changes as his true self is revealed: he is an arrogant and smug bastard among his peers, but more importantly, he is the terrible bully from Mizu's childhood.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And it is this side of Taigen--pompous jerk and unrepentant xenophobic bully--that we continue to see as the show goes on, and it's safe to say that this is his real self, sans any pretense of humility and modesty. Around anyone who isn't an outright superior in terms of class and power (ie. Akemi's father, the shogun), Taigen never hesitates to assert his own authority and "greatness."
Tumblr media
But as the show goes on, he gets caught by Heiji Shindo's men, and then tortured. And that's when we see, okay, turns out he's not that bad. He's honourable; "honour" is not just meaningless and superficial pedantry for him, but an internalised, guiding principle.
He was a cruel asshat throughout Mizu's childhood, but in a prejudiced and xenophobic society, he was just playing by the rules. As a child, he knew he was at the bottom of society, but when met with someone even lower ranked than him (Mizu), he can project all those prejudices and insecurities onto someone else. This way of thinking--"if you can't beat 'em, join em"--is what allowed him to climb up the ranks despite being some dirt poor kid from an abusive household*.
*Well, that combined with his cismale privilege of course, because this would not be an option for a woman in similar circumstances.
Thus, his upholding of honour also exemplifies how Taigen embodies the ideals and rules of his society. His insistence on duelling Mizu is another more blatant example of this. He doesn't want revenge like Mizu does. He wants to be accepted by society, within the bounds that society has placed, and that means that his only two options following his defeat at the Shindo dojo were to either chase Mizu down and get his damn duel, or kill himself for his humiliating defeat.
Tumblr media
Now! Moving on from Taigen, let's go back to the other end of this little love triangle: Akemi.
Mizu and Akemi only properly meet in Ep4. During their first meeting, when Akemi tries to poison Mizu in Madame Kaji's brothel, she compliments Mizu's eyes, calling them "beautiful."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This seems to genuinely take mizu off-guard for a second before she coolly plays along. We know that Mizu recognises Akemi from the get-go, and thus sees through Akemi's ploy from a mile away. It's also safe to assume she'd expected false flattery, because Mizu understands full well that this tactic is how women get what they want: by using their 'feminine wiles' and playing up their naivety and innocence. But even so, it's interesting that Mizu actually seems surprised by Akemi's compliment.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then, after Mizu subtly taunts Akemi by lying about Taigen's death, she and Akemi have a bit of a scuffle, and then we get to Mizu saying this:
"Women in our world don't have a single good option. Except you, like some magical forest creature. You could have anything you want, but then you beg to eat trash."
(no screenshot because it's quite a long line but you get it)
Here we see Mizu's opinions on the marginalisation of (mostly poor and under-privileged) women stated outright, and underlying her words is also resentment. Because even though she and Akemi have shared experiences of female oppression, Mizu, unlike Akemi, was also poor, from a rural village, and is a racial minority. Mizu is triply oppressed, while Akemi only faces one primary form of oppression, and to someone as embittered by the world as Mizu is, to see Akemi "beg to eat trash" is a slap in the face, practically tone-deaf to the other injustices around her--injustices which Akemi has not shown much, or any, acknowledgement for at this point.
Tumblr media
Then, after this scene, Mizu kills Kinuyo, and this unsettles her to a degree we've never seen from her before. She is visibly distraught, and the entire sequence hammers the theme of this episode (and arguably, a large portion of the show) into our heads: women in this world suffer. And even though Mizu is well aware of this fact, to commit this act is so visceral that is shakes her to her core, and it's what ultimately leads to the ambush of the Thousand Fangs.
Tumblr media
But before the ambush, Mizu and Akemi talk a little again, and during this time Akemi taunts Mizu some more.
Tumblr media
Right now, Mizu is exhausted to the point where (I believe) she even downs some sake, despite not usually drinking. Thus, worn down, she cuts Akemi's ropes and tells her, "Just go." Akemi recovers from her initial fear of Mizu's blade and taunts her some more, accurately seeing through Mizu's facade of coldness, recognising the raw anger there, and says this:
"I thought you had to be something special. Your face isn't even so scary. You're just... angry."
At this, Mizu is amused and compares Akemi to Taigen ("I see why he likes you. You're just like Taigen when we were children. A fucking brat.")
The reveal that Mizu and Taigen knew each other in childhood surprises Akemi, but before either of them can say more, everything goes to shit.
That's when we get to Ep5. This episode focuses primarily on Mizu, the central piece of this love triangle, and does the most out of all the episodes to shed some light on her character and goals, fleshing her out to be more than just the vengeful, highly proficient samurai we've seen thus far (symbolised by The Ronin), but also a person who is capable of love, domesticity and gentleness (symbolised by The Bride). But in the end, Mizu rejects both these ideals, instead becoming an Onryo, who is neither guided by pride/honour, nor love.
By 'reincarnating' into an Onryo, Mizu is able to win the day and save the women in the brothel. However, as she has now fully embraced her status as an Onryo, and is exhausted physically, mentally, and emotionally, she lets the Tokunobu clansmen take Akemi away while Akemi's screams echo in her ear.
Mizu says this choice is for Akemi's own good, that Akemi's better off; because Mizu is jaded and weary, and cannot afford the luxury of idealism, and thus must always be strictly practical and realistic. So of course that's why, in her view, yes, Akemi should not be wasting her time in a brothel where women are exploited and abused, nor should Akemi be so naive to think that her marriage with Taigen is even still possible. However, regardless of Mizu's views, it is not for her to decide, because though Akemi is privileged in some sense, she is still trapped and voiceless, and deserves the right to choose her own destiny.
But as it happens, in the end, though Akemi did not choose who she gets to marry, she DOES get to choose her next move when Edo burns down.
Tumblr media
"I want to be great."
This one line is the key to her entire arc, which is only just beginning. We see she quickly has acquired the affection and good graces of the shogun's son after their wedding night and consummation, and with Madame Kaji and the girls now serving her, Akemi will only grow to become a prominent political player.
Tumblr media
NOW, only after analysing the characters as they are within this season, only can we speculate how their arcs will continue as the show progresses.
First and foremost, I will reassert the popular opinion that Mizu and Akemi are foils. The climax (pun intended) of Ep7 illustrates this as it parallels the turning points in both Mizu's and Akemi's arcs:
Mizu melts the steel of all her loves and shames, the people she's collected: the broken blade wielded by both Chiaki and Taigen, Akemi's knife, Ringo's bell, Master Eiji's tongs - this symbolises her beginning to accept herself, and in doing so, also accepting the help of others;
Akemi consummates her marriage with Takayoshi Itoh, gains his affection, and cements her position as a woman in the shogun's palace - this symbolises her taking charge of her situation, no longer playing the damsel, but using her position to her advantage, empowering both herself and the underprivileged women around her.
These are thus two directly contrasting, diverging journeys:
Mizu's arc moves inward (yin). It is an internal path of self-love and self-discovery, focused on finding peace and tranquility inside herself, and this involves allowing herself to let others into her life, opening herself up to friendship and empathy once more.
Akemi's arc moves outward (yang), it is an external path of growth, transforming from a naive, caged princess to a powerful woman and a force to be reckoned with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Akemi is always dressed in red, even her eyes are a bit of a reddish-brown rather than brown-black like most other characters, and in her penultimate scene she stands against a backdrop of flames. She is fire: quick-tempered, passionate, full of energy. Red is powerful, authoritative, and in eastern cultures, it is associated with prosperity.
Mizu is blue: her eyes, her sword, her clothes. She is also named after water; it's where she goes to recover, reflect and meditate. Water is fluid like a brook weaving around a stone in its path, always changing and adapting, it is graceful, it is beautiful and ruthless, tranquil yet swift.
Thus, in the future, I expect we will see plenty of political manoeuvring and intrigue in Akemi's plotline, where she fully embraces control of her life, and begins to take action to help others as well, realising that her own oppression is just one piece in a much larger picture. Her main conflict is with society.
In direct contrast, Mizu's main conflict is with herself. She must realise that her desire for vengeance is a projection of her own deep-rooted self-hatred. Her arc must move towards unpacking her feelings and trauma so she can be at peace with herself and allow space for love in her heart. Because as we saw in Ep5, Mizu had come extremely close to achieving peace and joy, as she had not only loved Mikio, but also had briefly believed that Mikio had loved her (and accepted her for who she is) as well.
Tumblr media
Thus, assuming the story is not planned as a tragedy, Mizu will likely end up getting her vengeance, but it will not satisfy her, because it is not what she needs. What she needs is to let go of the Onryo within her and to reconcile both The Ronin and The Bride within herself, as she is both a fighter and a lover, but not a monster.
(Edit: I recommend checking out this post by @stylographic-blue-rhapsody for a much clearer analysis about Mizu'a symbolism as Ronin, Bride and Onryo!)
And now that we've mostly covered each of the characters individually, we can finally get to the main point of this post: the love triangle.
--
Let's talk about Option A: Akemi.
Tumblr media
As I covered extensively earlier, Mizu and Akemi are foils, a yin-yang pair. But while they play off each other very well in a thematic sense, I personally believe that a serious romance between them will be more complicated if they become endgame. This is because Akemi's natural resolution is to embrace a position of power and influence, where she has both freedom and control over herself and to make much-needed changes in a prejudiced society. Meanwhile, Mizu's natural resolution is the opposite; her happy ending would to find a peaceful life where she is safe and free from prying eyes, and able to be her true self.
Thus, it would make very little sense for Akemi to forfeit power and run away with Mizu and start a humble life together. Akemi wants to be great, and that is absolutely what she deserves. On the other end of the spectrum, it would also make little sense for Mizu to dedicate her life in service of Akemi, such as acting as a bodyguard or something similar, because a life in a palace full of court intrigue and conspiracies is far from what Mizu needs to be happy.
With that being said, if Mizu/Akemi is endgame, and assuming their overarching character arcs do not shift directions, their love story would likely be either tragic, doomed, or bittersweet. I do absolutely love this type of story because personally I'm a sucker for catharsis, so it would be very interesting if the writers do decide to take this route.
Also, as a note, please do not take this as me dunking on this pairing. This is just my personal opinion and analysis and I completely understand if you disagree!
--
Then, of course, we have Option B: Taigen.
Tumblr media
Between Akemi and Mizu, Taigen is a bit of a free-floater here, because Season 1 leaves off at a point where his arc is very ambiguous as to where it's headed. While Akemi climbs for greatness and Mizu goes on a journey across the ocean to (presumably) discover more about her heritage, we have little clues about where Taigen is headed. And if I'm being honest, I'm sure he has no idea either! He still hasn't reclaimed his honour, so he would be unable to rejoin the Shindo Dojo; he's been rejected by Akemi; and while he showed loyalty to the shogun, the shogun is now dead, and all the shogun's men who had witnessed his "humiliating" death were left to die by Lady Itoh, who is now pulling the strings within the palace.
Therefore, Taigen has very few options here.
And when considering his role in the story is as Mizu's begrudging ally, his arc will undoubtedly be focused on unlearning his xenophobia and misogyny, the latter of which we have not seen yet, but is surely present. Now, whether he will do this in Mizu's presence or absence will be unknown until we see Season 2. Following the Season 1 finale, he might return to Kohama and wait for Mizu there as he learns humility and remorse over his past cruelty; or maybe he will follow Mizu to London, and the two of them will continue to butt heads until he finally admits to himself that he cares for Mizu more than he would like to admit. There is no room for doubt that his growing feelings for Mizu are more-than-platonic, because we all saw him get turned on by sparring with her in Ep7 lol. Thus, regardless of the exact choice he makes, I am sure that his overall arc will be focused on redeeming his character.
Now, when it comes go redeeming him, I know there are many who simply don't want him redeemed because he was such a jerk to Mizu, and while yes I agree he was awful, I do believe there is also nuance to his character.
Previously I've discussed in great detail the colour and elemental symbolism with Mizu and Akemi, but have yet to touch on how they relate to Taigen. So, let's talk about that for a second.
While Akemi is red and Mizu is blue, Taigen is green.
Tumblr media
Green is a complementary colour to Akemi's red. Complementary colours are directly opposite each other in the colour wheel; when mixed, they neutralise each other, but when put side-by-side, they form a pleasing and impactful contrast that boosts the brightness and prominence of both colours. This mirrors Taigen and Akemi's relationship. They are an "ideal" pair because they complement each other very well, and bring out each other's most prominent traits. Mizu's comment about their similar "brattiness" comes to mind here.
Tumblr media
Green is also an analogous colour with Mizu's blue. These colours are sitting right next to each other on the colour wheel; their natural similarity makes it easy for them to form a cohesive overall appearance, but using both in equal amounts will make a design overwhelming and too busy. Thus, the best way to use analogous colours is to make one the dominant colour, while the other will serve as an accent. I feel this also speaks to the dynamic in Taigen and Mizu's relationship. They came from the space place, both from nothing; they're both strong fighters who love the sport, and work well together when fighting side-by-side; however, they butt heads too easily, mirroring how analogous colours can be too overwhelming when used in equal amounts. Thus, to work together in harmony, one has to be the dominant colour, while the other serves as the accent. In this case, the dominant force would be Mizu, as she is the protagonist of the story, while the accent would be Taigen.
By fulfilling this role as an "accent" to Mizu, Taigen's character would easily be slotted in as a the love interest. This is in contrast with a Mizu/Akemi relationship, whereby Akemi is Mizu's foil before she is Mizu's love interest. This is because, by being a love interest, a character usually takes a backseat in the story, serving the plot and the themes by playing a purely supportive role, and this is not possible in Akemi's case because her character exists to parallel and contrast Mizu (red and blue), and not to support her.
It is possible to serve as a supporting love interest in Taigen's case however. And this is because he, unlike the other characters, does not currently have a definitive place within the story. He initially served the plot as an antagonistic force, but now as he is slowly unlearning his prejudices and becoming a better person, he can no longer serve the story by acting purely as a rival.
Instead, he will serve the story by literally supporting Mizu. And this relates to Taigen being earth, which is steady, firm and reliable, unwavering in loyalty and principles, hardworking and rooted in stability, which is seen in Taigen's staunch and inflexible obedience to the traditions and rules of society. These traits are what make him a perfect samurai, but not a good man. However, unlike most people in their world, Taigen is still capable of change and redemption, which is why Mizu says that he has the potential to be great. Not great by way of power or glory, but great in character. Already, he is honourable to a fault, and does not betray Mizu even after she technically robbed him of everything he was striving towards. And when he was shot by an arrow in the chasm, he did not hesitate a second to tell Mizu to use him as a human shield and save herself.
Tumblr media
The trigger for his redemption is Mizu. If she had never beat him in that duel, Taigen would live on to become a man like Akemi's father. Cruel, power-hungry, controlling, conservative. But through Mizu, Taigen's sharp edges are ground down, much like water that wears down the stones in a river.
Where Mizu and Akemi's possible love story would be a clash of wills, full of passion and even heartbreak, a possible love story between Mizu and Taigen would be the wearing down of souls. Mizu would make Taigen a better person, and in turn Taigen would dedicate his full respect and support to Mizu as his equal, thus getting her to slowly open up and love herself. Already, Taigen has grown enough to admit (begrudgingly, and in his own Taigen way) that Mizu is better than him; though, clearly, he still has a long way to go, as he still calls Mizu a demon shortly after that.
But basically, Taigen is a very simple man (his main goal now is "to be happy"), and Mizu has great depths that he cannot yet fathom. For this love story to work, it has to begin with Taigen changing for the better. If he succeeds in that, and is able to accept Mizu for all her complexities, I believe that they will make a formidable pair. And though he'd likely still throw a jab or snarky remark at Mizu every now and then, I think he'd come tl wholeheartedly admire Mizu as a brilliant swordsman and a kind soul. Thus, should things work out and this be endgame, Taigen would be able to provide Mizu with what Mikio could not: an idyllic life that is not built on a lie, but mutual trust, respect, admiration, and equality.
Or hey, maybe they could both make their own dojo together! I don't know.
(Edit: This post by @rinandsketches does a great job at delving into Taigen's character and a potential Mizu/Taigen relationship if you'd like to read more about this angle!)
--
Now, as I move on from Taigen, there are a couple more options on how to resolve this love triangle and that includes Option C: Ringo.
In this option, Mizu does not have an endgame romance with either Akemi or Taigen. In this route, she finds peace and love through friendship, solidarity, and a found family between herself, Ringo and Master Eiji—a bunch of outcasts in society who make a strong trifecta of sword-makers.
Also, as an aside while I'm talking about Ringo, I'd like to point out that I believe his element is air and his colour is a neutral grey; he is talkative, easy-going, wise, curious, light on his feet (stealthy) and free-spirited, which are all traits linked to air, and traits that complement Mizu nicely, as he is capable of getting Mizu to open up and trust others again, while Mizu helps him reach his true potential for greatness.
--
And finally, there's Option D: Polyamory.
This is basically an "all of the above" option, in which everyone wins and it's a super duper happy ending. It would also be awesome to get some polyamorous representation, and seeing the dynamic between Akemi/Mizu/Taigen play out would be very entertaining and refreshing. So, you never know, this just might be the true endgame!
--
AAAAND with that, I close my extremely long analysis of what is essentially Mizu's love life. Whatever the final outcome of this love triangle though, I just hope it will be well-written and satisfying to all the characters' respective arcs. (Also I just want Mizu to be HAPPY goddamn it because she deserves the world and her coochie eaten out)
Now, I highly doubt anyone will read any of this (especially not until the end!) but that's fine. I just have so many thoughts and feelings about this show and I just needed to get this out of my system lol! But if by some miracle you did read this far, I wholeheartedly welcome any sharing of thoughts and ideas because man am I obsessed with this show! But of course, if we have an opposing opinions, please be respectful when letting me know; I am very open to friendly discussions.

Confused about the whole Taika zionist, bc I saw his name on that list of actors thanking Biden for the support to Israel. Does that not make him a zionist? Genuinely asking.
disclaimer that rn i'n having horrible brain fog and have been in the throes of a pots episode for literally three days now, and i'm typing this from jnder my service dog rn bc he won't stol alerting. so weirdoes stalking my blog don't crucify me here if i say something slightly wrong
anyway okay so i think assigning an entire incredibly deeply complicated political and religious belief to somebody because they happened to sign onr thing (which like if we're gonns talk about rhe performativity of actirs signing things and how they mean nothing, i think it's also important that we look at this as a sort of response to anger that someone may be keeping silent on an issue. how many times have y'all seen people getting pissed about someone not talking about current evenrd. if you get mad at someone for the performativity of posting a black square on instagram to end racism, you need to also understand the forces rhat may compel a person to do that, yk). i'm not taika waititi and i'm asshming none of the people talking about this are either, so none of us know what level of engagement he gave to the letter or how closely it actually aligns with his political and religious beliefs
basicallt anyway. when i signed a peititon written by mostly marxist-leninists and socialists to demand better wages on my college campus, i was saying we need better wages. the fact that mls and socialists also signed that petition does not mean that i'm suddenly not an anarchist
my vision is getting blurry and i can tell this is so meandering but. he has never said he's a zionist, he only said he's anti-hamas. when celebrities (especially jewish and muslim celebrities) are being pressured to speak out on something that is so impossible to get accurate information and is so emotionally fraught, they're a lot more likely to engage with somethjng full of dogwhistles and propaganda like that letter. i've made so many posts about how wrong and narrow the goysche definition of zionism is—because why the fuck else would "zionist" be an insult than people having no idea how jews use this term
also, about the theory that one of the ofmd actors was let go bc of being pro-palestine, i would hope that by this point people have learned to be a bit more skeptical when people are like "omg wtf i was only being pro-palestine and now i'm in troubke." i'm sure that has happened, but so many people have said that and thrn it's found out that oops sctuslky they were being super antisemitic. i'm not calling that actor an antisemite or a liar or whatever but it's so important that in the absence of like. yknow. evidence. we be a bit more critical
i'm hoping that made any sort of sense. i'm fighting for my life rn 😭 anyway thank you for like actually being eeapectful i hsve so many asks chilling in the ask box that sre like accusing me of loving genocide and all that? anyway yeah long story short: zionism is a very complicated political umbrella that i have stopped even hoping for goyim to learn what they actually mean, and people cannot be labeled that for adding their name to a letter when we have no idea what level of engagement they actually gave to the letter
also sorry another thing. the post this ask is in response to is specifically about people dismissing a movie about rhe holocaust made by a jew bc said jew is apparently a Bad Jew™️ so that's evidence enough that none of these assholes have any idea what the fuck they're talking about

Intermission: College Student Needs Roommates!
Okay, so she would probably be better off without one/prefer this not to happen. But if you get everything you want, Dom, then where is the character development? xD
Tumblr media
Here are our candidates:
PAKA'A UHA: music lover, child of the ocean, goofball, gregarious*
If you want to be nice to Dom, he would probably be the option to pick. He's pretty chill, has a compatible sense of humour with the GOOFBALL trait, and is a gender nonconforming Sim who could be a reference to how mermaids are often used as an allegory for being trans (also many Polynesian cultures traditionally have genderfluid/nonbinary roles).
FAIZ JALEEL: active, loves outdoors, romantic, alluring*
Don't really know much about him, tbh. Seems nice enough. Pretty eyes. A hairstyle that reminds me of that one scene in There's Something About Mary. Plus with the ROMANTIC trait, potential to make a mess of whatever Dom and Kiyoshi have (or not) going on? Or at least some overnight guests maybe.
CELENE LOPEZ: neat, geek, outgoing, gregarious*, werewolf ally
This one feels like a bit of a cheat since I possibly already know her ROOMMATE QUIRKS, unless they change from one save to another. In a different save she was blasting loud music and continuously baking those Level 1 white cakes, but was otherwise alright. Although maybe not so much here, as the stereo is in Dom's room?
WOLFGANG WILDER: gloomy, creative, bookworm, muser*
Ah, the famed Moonwood Mill librarian and no connection at all to published author Vulfgang Mulder. I couldn't really figure out whether he and Dom got along. One of the very first things he did was TRICK WITH HAND BUZZER, which of course Dom loved, but every now and then I saw those negative relationship moodlets - possibily because he was in werewolf form and Dom doesn't yet have the WEREWOLF ALLY trait. Obviously as a werewolf there is a potential for chaos. However I think that Wolfgang starts the game with a decent werewolf level (PRIME maybe?) and as a member of the Collective, he's not supposed to be unpleasant towards Sims in his beast form in order to uphold pack values.
Below the cut, several that didn't make the cut (whomp whomp).
MEAN MERMAID (KALAMAINU'U IONA): In spite of her CHIEF OF MISCHIEF aspiration, her and Dom did not get along at all, probably due to her MEAN trait. And tendency to kick over Dom's trashcan.
Tumblr media
At least she finally gave Dom a chance to use the BOMBADIERS AWAY mischief interaction.
Tumblr media
Totally convincing "oh, oops?" from Dom there.
She then came back with Paka'a, looking positively thrilled to be there too. Also a merperson using an umbrella - highly sus.
Tumblr media
Pro tip: if you're trying to make a good impression on a potential roommate, it's probably not the best idea to be mean to the other applicants straight off the bat.
Tumblr media
I love how chill Paka'a looks here. They probably know each other from Sulani, so he's just like "oh yeah, that's Kala. We have a running bet to see how long she can go without insulting anyone." Dom sent her packing regardless.
THIS RANDOM GENERATED TOWNIE
Likely from the Snowy Escape pack based on what I recall from the name alone. Could even be the same townie that Dom and Kiyoshi both had beef with during their date.
Anyway, somehow she made an even worse impression than Kala. All she did was kick over Dom's trash can, rifle through romance novels only to leave them lying around, then - final straw - helped herself to all of Dom's beloved plants that she can't even sell at the moment, thanks to the Watcher's stringent set of rules.
Tumblr media
After Kala was kind enough to be the test subject of the BOMBADIERS AWAY interaction, Dom threw a few handfuls of those at her then kicked her butt for good measure, making Dom two out of two in terms of her Battle Royale victories. For a Sim with the CLUMSY trait, she seems to be decent at throwing down.
ELOISE HIDDLESTIX (Thriftea owner), UKUPANIPO HEKEKIA and NALANI MAHI'AI
Aka: "maybe Sulani has changed their protected species laws because every single merperson is just fleeing there." Nothing wrong with any of them per se - I just wasn't feeling it. Also Dom and her friends all knew Eloise when they were still teens so it would feel weird if any behaviour that Darling Walsh would disapprove of occurred.

I love hearing about queer headcanons so I'll probably end up asking about all of them, but how about starting with Sumeru?
(ask in reference to this post)
YES I can do a few sumeru characters to start (heres Wanderer, Cynonari, Collei, and Nahida)
(there’s accidently aroace headcanons in 3/4 of them OOOPS)
Wanderer: talked about his gender (trans guy) here, sexuality wise I see him as gay and probably mostly t4t. I also have a vision where Wanderer has the same relationship with aro + aceness as Collei but in sort of opposite directions. So my idea is Wanderer feels a lot of alienation & detachment regarding romance & sex & shares a lot of similar experiences to aro and/or ace people, but would choose to not ID as either label because after some time he concludes his relationship with both kinds of attraction is very influenced by trauma, and it would be more healthy for him personally to work on building a positive relationship with romantic + sexual attraction since he does actually experience it. So he sits on a plane of not identifying as aro or ace but like he gets it
Collei: Collei on the other hand, in contrast to Wanderer, finds aro + ace labels really helpful for understanding herself, even if she also believes in her relationship with both kinds of attraction overlapping a lot with trauma. Because for her she genuinely just doesn’t really feel she experiences either attraction and that’s sort of a comfortable default/conclusion for her. Specifically I’d give her the demi aro and asexual labels…in my head this goes with my Tighnari & Cyno headcanons where both of them are in an aroace relationship and give her really good advice/feedback on her feelings that make her feel more able to be confident about how she feels regarding attraction. Along with that I think she’s sort of questioning sexuality labels but would refer to herself as sapphic as a shorthand explanation. Gender wise I have a few different headcanons in mind…either transfem, demigirl, or bigender/genderfluid maybe? I see her as having multiple ideas of what sort of gender presentation she wants and going between them
Tighnari + Cyno: Okay so here I need to pitch my demi-aroace Cynonari vision. I think both Cyno and Tighnari would view their own queerness in ways pretty similar to each other, and one facet of this is where they fall on the aroace spectrum. I think it aligns perfectly where they’re both like, yeah I have no interest in romance or relationships the way people usually engage with them but you’re the only one who gets the exact way I feel about it + we get along well so honestly I’m down to be in our own form of a relationship with you specifically. I don’t think they really do labels with a lot of things: both of them are trans + non binary in one way or another, and both use gay/queer as identifying terms, but don’t have a lot of specifications beyond using umbrella labels really. They’re just chilling. As established this ends up being a good fit for their dynamic with Collei bc I think it gives her a lot more confidence about navigating her own queerness seeing Cynonari just kind of hang out and do their own thing
Nahida: she’s baby and does not strike me as someone who is going to think about romance or sexuality until she’s a lot older. I think if you asked Nahida to explain her gender to you she would probably employ a lot of very confusing metaphors you do not understand, all in an attempt to articulate what I’d write as a pretty shared experience between all the Archons in how they view gender. They seem to like…view themselves as genderless but sometimes opting into gender if they feel like it—and tend to intuitively relate it to their element. Which means the most you get from Nahida’s metaphors is she’s telling you her gender is plant and you do not get it but it doesn’t seem wrong so what can you do. I also have this additional thought I think is funny about Wanderer and Nahida having very deep philosophical discussions about immortal gender at 3 in the morning. In the context of the English language at least I think we need to tell Nahida about neopronouns I think she’d be a fan. So in summary she’s kind of baby and is not giving this stuff much thought right now but also being a god in my gender impact dimension kind of inherently makes you ponder the orb (gender)

Reunion
A year after everything, it’s time for Chris to finally see you again. After all these months, you’re alive, and you’re…with Wesker?
Transported masterlist
Transported au
It’s been a while since you’ve last seen your old teammates, then again, Wesker always makes a point to make sure you don’t run into them. Perhaps he didn’t want you to betray your good friends, although you’re kind of already doing that. Either way, you hadn’t run into them in a long time. It was probably for the best, I mean, you’re not exactly on their side.
Regardless, you were doing some work on site for Wesker, as he got called away last minute. Again. You couldn’t wait until he decides to drop umbrella, this place sucks, but most of the employees liked you…or they were scared of Wesker. Well either way, it doesn’t matter in the long term.
You were peacefully sorting through paperwork while walking to one of the offices, finally some peace and quiet in a huge, busy, factory-like building.
Well you were enjoying it until you heard and saw a door being kicked down. The doors were unlocked, who is stupid enough- oh it’s Chris.
“Wh- Rookie?” He called, looking at you as you stood still in the hallway, “My information told me that Wesker was going to be here.”
“Oh yeah, he just left.” You pointed behind you, a very obvious plane in the sky, seen through the skylight, “Also the doors are unlocked, you could have just-“
“What are you doing here?” He asked suddenly. Ah right, he’s the selfless, wanting to believe in people type, You thought as he stared at you.
“I cleared the room, what’s going…” Jill popped up behind him, before turning to where he was looking. At you.
You blinked, she looked so surprised to see you. Her hand came up to her mouth but before she could say anything, Chris started to talk again.
“Is he…are you….why are you here?” He asked again.
“…he…asked.” You replied, putting tension on the word asked. It wasn’t a lie, but it wasn’t the full truth either.
“What did he say to get you on his side? Who did he have to threaten to persuade you?” Chris demanded, ah…so he doesn’t know or get it.
“Chris, listen. You guys are safer when I’m doing his paperwork and keeping him busy.” You said, that was a lie but he didn’t have to know that, “Just let me do this.”
“Just treat me like any other enemy.” You continued after looking at their horrified faces, “Because that will keep me safe. Just…please.”
They were silent as they processed your words. You implied that you’re keeping them as safe by being by his side…you don’t know whether it’s to spare their feelings or your’s. They stared at you and you were slightly worried they saw through your lie.
“Ok. I understand.” Jill stated, her posture easing up. Chris doing the same, relaxing a bit after listening to you.
“I…can’t understand why you’d want to do this for us, but thank you.”
“You guys do have a habit of trying to run into him, so it’s not much.” You joked, you knew then too well to not be joking.
“We…when he defeat Wesker, we’ll come back for you. I swear it.” Chris spoke up, after some time being quiet. He nodded to Jill and they ran off, and as soon as they turned the corner, with some loud noises accompanying them, you finally breathed out.
It’s been some time since you’ve seen them. This was the first time since STARS was disbanded. Was it selfish? To love the man they hated? The man who wants to destroy everything? Is it cruel of you to want to see that? And because of what? You find it funny? It is funny, but probably not to them.
For Chris and Jill, you’re doing it for them. For you, you’re doing it for Wesker. Because he needs that unconditional support and love from someone, and if the universe had given you this chance then by god were you going to do so.
Chris may think whatever he likes, and you won’t deny nor confirm anything. It isn’t up to you. Sure, Wesker has calmed down ever since you joined his side, but you know there’s still a possibility for things to go wrong for you. You always question whether or not he’s being genuine about his feelings with you. He’s always been a manipulator, but at the same time you don’t have any evidence to refute his feelings for you not being genuine.
But Jill has always been understanding and way more observant than Chris. She’s been your rock about many things you didn’t want to talk about. The things she didn’t know about you. Things you couldn’t tell her. You knew she could probably tell the truth between you and Wesker very easily. If she readily believes that you’re with Wesker to calm him, then she won’t get in the way. She believes that you’re doing the right things in following your heart, she always has.
You can wait and you can watch. You can be there for him. You can love him. Just to make sure you know for certain that his feelings, the relationship, is real. You’ve seen what happened to Excella for making the same mistake….well Uroboros wouldn’t effect you like that but still terrifying to know you’re under his control.
But…why are you here?
You’ve been asking yourself that ever since you got here. You don’t know how or why you’re here, you don’t know what you’re doing here. What you do know is that you have someone who’s relying on your loyalty to him and that’s all you need to provide to him.
That’ll be enough.

Hello again! So I'm the anon here, I made a small list of the questions I wanted to ask! (Feel free to skip any of them if they trigger repulsion though, since I wasn't sure on some of them)
1 - Is it possible to be aplatonic but alloqueerplatonic?
2 - Can one be apl but still want close bonds with people? (Best example I could think of is close acquaintances or "unlabeled bonds", if those are even things?)
3 - Would it be apl(spec) to have plato attraction but have it be very rare, weak, or only when specific criteria is met?
4 - Is it possible to suddenly/gradually lose plato attraction (in general, not to a specific person)?
5 - Is it a possible indicator of being apl to not really feel anything "special" towards friends? (Like enjoying their company/personality but being otherwise indifferent towards them)
5.5 - With the above: Is it a possible indicator of being apl to view plato attraction/relationships as being a performance/metaphor, not actual "feelings" towards someone?
1- yeah, there are people who are aplatonic and alloqueerplatonic ! (some may assume there arent just bc the old definition of aplatonic claimed it means 'does not want qprs' - but thats not what aplatonic means. People are welcome to use the outdated definition for themself if they want but literally even the coiner of aplatonic (mr shuttershy on AVEN) never even made that definition of apl. )
2- yeah, and some apls are allo- for other attractions, and/or favorable to one or more types of close bond or relationship. (I for example have close bonds with my sexual and romantic-sexual partners bc Im demiro and allosexual, but dont want acquaintances or friends or qprs etc. bc Im repulsed by those)
3- yeah, that would be aplspec as aplatonic can also include little bit of platonic attraction, rare attraction, conditional attraction, etc. same as w how it works for aro and ace, etc.
4- yeah, it is possible. some people experience this. I dont know if there is an umbrella term for when this occurs, but if it occurred due to trauma its called caedplatonic (if one has ptsd or cptsd) and erasplatonic (if one does not have those disorders)
5- it could be, I felt like that back when I thought I wanted friends, and Ive heard other apls talk about finding friendship to be like this as well
5.5- it can be, since some of us arent familiar with how it feels to feel platonic attraction and/or truly like friendship and desire it, we may see it as 'not real' or assume everyone else is exaggerating how much they like friendship. Even if it is in fact real to people who experience it (and I don't believe its correct to actually call it, or any other attraction or relationship actually fake bc that invalidates peoples experiences)
And from my experience, unlike what some people assume, its really not just alloplatonic aros who are obsessed with friendship (some people, especially those who try to gatekeep the apl label as being only for aros, they claim there is 'no expectation to care about friendship outside of the aro community', and thus often assume this). Ive seen plenty of alloromantic people be incredibly invested in friendship and its also been very confusing to me that they even feel that much about friends and friendship as a whole, as a nonfriending apl who has never felt that.

I just started college (at a private school on a shit ton of scholarships and still taking out loans which has led to some really awkward assumptions about my economic situation that kind of just make everything worse) and I had no damn clue that I was so lucky with my friend group in highschool. I went to this support group and made most of my friends that way bc my dads an alcoholic and basically met my platonic soulmate (as sketch as that term is in the aroace community, it feels right with her) but we went to colleges a few hours apart and haven’t been around eachother as of late
Now that I’m at college, I decided to room on a lgbt friendly floor (gender neutral bathrooms, coed rooms, lgbt floor programs, easier access to lgbt support, etc) because it sounded like the perfect way to find and become friends with the queer community on campus. But I think I made a really big mistake.
Being a woman (loosely, but I present that way) on the floor, people just assume I’m a lesbian or at least bi/pan. And people, as they have always done, constantly talk about relationships and sex. Every second of every day. I’m sorta used to it. I’m also autistic so they are used to some stuff going over my head or me simply not reacting, they just don’t know that with the sex jokes it’s not that I don’t get it, it’s that I don’t find it funny. But sometimes I chime in, just to banter and make sure people like me (as sad as that is) and they’ll inevitably say something along the lines of “oh well you’re gay” as in to imply I’m not into men. But they literally forget I’m also not into women or nb people or anyone. I’d like to say I have no problem with the umbrella term gay to refer to the lgbt community, actually I almost did. But I do have a problem with it. I’m not gay. I’m not into anyone. I don’t like sex. I don’t want sex. I’m never going to want sex. Or dating for that matter! I’m out as aroace. All my friends know. And yet they completely erase my identity in everyday speech as if nothing is even happening. It’s so alienating!
I want to assume the best of them. I want to hope that in their minds what they mean is that I’m queer. Im pet of the lgbt+ community. But I know it’s not true. What they mean is “oh well she doesn’t like men so it makes sense that she doesn’t really like the dick jokes and whatnot, so I’ll qualify our conversation and make sure she knows I remember so she doesn’t feel bad for not getting the straight or gay(mlm) sex jokes.” They do not mean “oh yeah she doesn’t like sex, allow me to toss it into conversation so she feels more comfortable and seen,” because if that was what they meant, they’d say “oh well you’re ace.”
They just fucking assume that everyone ESPECIALLY on an lgbt floor is constantly thinking of sex and dating because they can’t possibly conceive another reason someone would live on the lgbt floor. They may remember trans and nb students exist, but in the end they ALSO assume those students are looking for easier access to accepting people in order to find a partner who’s okay with dating a trans or nb individual.
And yet I’m right here.

general headcanons:
• cis, she/her, aroace lesbian,
• when she was younger her care-keepers used to take her to a lot of psychiatrists because they were afraid inyo might have had something from antisocial spectrum,
• she is descendant of siberian indigenous people (the nenets/insert other uralic nation here) that assimilated with russians (so that's where her last name came from) and then they moved to tokio. so inyo is third-generation immigrant (this term sounds so american but i couldn't find better words to describe this),
• inyo just like tiger and miko was growing up in the orphanage but she haven't had anybody to help her with a second language so she learned russian all by herself,
• of course she also knows english, so it means that she knows 3 completely different alphabets,
• when she is stressed out, she starts quoting shakespeare in her head (this is hamlet most of the time, but also macbeth),
• her favourite movie is audition [1999],
• silver >>>>>>>>>>>>> gold,
• even though she doesn't seem to be that type of person, she is maximalist, she needs to have everything under her hand,
• also she is interested in fashion history,
• she has ocd 😄😄,
• she has obsessions related to taboo topics,
• one of her compulsions is opening and folding the umbrella and counting sounds of footsteps under her breath,
• i think she also has social anxiety,
• bcs of the mix of her ocd and anxiety she sometimes has panic attacks (especially when sexual intrusive thoughts pop out in her head),
• she is picky eater and hates fastfood,
• she only drinks real-real coffee. she doesn't like cafes like starbucks, costa etc.
throughts the series (og tv show, rewriting):
• (season 6, hot property episode) she is presented as this mysterious female coach that meets with suspicions from others,
• so, before cognito played against strikas both of the teams met and inyo talked to shakes, convincing him to look up for a new house and gave him a penelope's bussines card (she rented an apartment from her for the duration of her stay in south africa),
• yeah, inyo and penelope are two different people, but hold on,
• the next day, she and shakes met accidentally at penelope's office, so while inyo was there bcs of a "payment problems", shakes wanted to talk about penelope's house offers,
• when penelope and shakes left for a few minutes, inyo copied from penelope's phone other clients numbers (including shakes) so she could impersonate as one of the employees of penelope's company (or penelope herself) and mess up with shakes,
• after some time, inyo dressed up as the notary arrived at shakes's new house and started installing small cameras,
• she didn't even used it to spy on him, she just informed penelope about damage shakes and spenz were doing and what was caught on the cameras, so penelope terminated the contract with our beloved male mary sue,
• oh and cognito won in this episode.
• (between season 6 and 7) inyo would be more of a minor but still important character here. i think she would just ghost everyone in this series. also bcs of the fact that we all loved the idea of helena being part of iron tank team, inyo and helena have the longest screentime together, next to the interactions between inyo tiger and miko,
• (season 7, mind over matador) very similiar situation to what happened to shakes in previous season, but this time inyo impersonate doctor carmen (who is also a completely different person and not inyo's alter ego), so when the real doctor carmen is not around, inyo undercover is fucking up with el matador's head,
• aileen was the only one that had odd feelings about this, bcs doctor carmen she knew was never much of a hugger.
relationship with:
• helena: open interpretation tbh, they can be queerplatonic but also queer in general. helena probably was the one who get attached first. they are like moon and sun, winter and summer. and bcs they are around the same age and one of the few women in super league they were forced to cooperate. but inyo trusts helena more than anyone, even tho she would never admitted it
ofc they are like crack version of romeo&juliet and whenever inyo visits helena colonel looks at her like: 😤🙄😀
• altivo: tbh altivo is inyo's rival but also internalized crush and it would be so obvious for everyone and they would look at inyo like: i know what you are👁👁, whenever inyo would plot something against her,
• others: ?????
fashion headcanons:
• she doesn't buy anything from fast fashion stores, she wears tailor-made clothes,
• has thing for gloves,
• a lot of lace decorations,
• corsets!!!!
music headcanons:
• the biggest classical music enjoyer you ever know,
• r&b.

Manifestation - Everyone Is You Pushed Out (EIYPO) - The World Is Your Mirror
Hello everyone! This is another short post to cover a simple topic under the umbrella term manifestation to hopefully shed some light on the topic.
So if you are new to this concept, EIYPO, let me try to explain it to you. The world, the 3d world that you see and perceive is a reflection of your inner being, your thoughts, feelings and assumptions. Whatever you believe to be true and real, gets reflected back to you in your day to day life and interactions with other people.
If someone is acting a certain way toward you, it is easy to see that as evidence as that is how that person feels about you. Say for example a person is rude to you. You probably make the assumption that that person does not like you, which, to be fair, is quite understandable. Because you hold the belief that a person would only be rude to you if they dislike you, then that means that person must not like you.
Could we change that? Well, yes we can! All we have to do is change our assumption of the way this person treats you, and the way they feel about you.
So we will accept that this person is still capable of liking us or loving us, and now, we will choose to start seeing them in a more loving light. In your imagination, you want to see that person treating you well. You can use visualisations, scripting or my favourite: affirmations. Persist in this new assumption “person x is always treating me right” and it will come to pass. Not only are you always treated like royalty (for example) but it is also important to stop seeing that other person as someone who is ‘rude’ for example. That’s the old story, and we won’t be telling it anymore. The person on our mind is now always nice (at least to us) and always treating us right.
So I have several examples of how this has worked in my own life using affirmations. Now I have a list of affirmations that I have recorded which are tailored towards my specific person (SP), but because EVERYONE is you pushed out, I have seen my affirmations reflected back to me from other men as well.
Here’s a few examples including the affirmation:  1. “Our sex is the best that he has ever had” - A guy I slept with twice last year suddenly re-appeared and after texting for a bit, he told me I was the best sex he has ever had. Well, of course, I affirmed to be the best. Now of course I affirmed for my SP to think this, but, if random guy said it, then you best believe SP feels the same!
2. “He is the happiest when he is with me” - Surprisingly enough, same random guy from example 1 told me this exact thing just a couple of weeks ago, that he’s the happiest when he’s with me. Naw, sweet, but also, not my SP! (Don’t let stuff like that concern you though, this is what they call Birds Before Land, a post I will need to make at some point)
3. “I am the best” - When talking to my SP I asked him why he came back after we (he) ended things, his response? “Because you’re the best”
4. “I am amazing” - During the same conversation as example 3, my SP said to me “I wish you knew how amazing you are”, and I kid you not, this was the first time my SP had ever called me amazing (he’s not big on compliments)
5. “SP always pays for my drinks” - I know this one might seem shallow (and cheap of me!) but hey, SP makes big bucks and I deserve to be treated when we’re out, so why not? And yeah, a few weeks of affirming this and my SP now always pays for the drinks when we are out.
The list goes on but I hope I have demonstrated my point. Change your assumptions about your reality, how people see you, how people treat you, persist, and they will change. They have to, it’s the law.
I hope that this post was helpful. I’d love to hear any examples you guys might have on this topic, also open for questions or requests for a post!
I now offer email coaching on my Etsy Shop for anyone who needs help, assistance, guidance or just a cheerleader for their manifestation journey.

I’m a battle hardened kaylor at this point. Last night’s stunts just made me smile and laugh. But I remember what it was like when I was a baby kaylor and was upset every time something happened. There seems to be a lot of baby kaylors these days, which means our population is growing, so thats a positive! My advice to the newbies: becoming a kaylor is like taking a crash course in stoicism, but skipping right to the final exam. If you let these stunts bother you, you’ll be miserable. Just shake it off! We can’t control her, or the hetlors. We can only control who we engage with and our reactions. The sooner one realizes this the better.
(just a footnote for anybody new, baby kaylor is meant affectionately here. it’s how a lot of us describe anyone’s early days as a kaylor. you’ve got the most energy and enthusiasm and you experience the high highs that come with learning about all the lore or seeing something happen real time etc, but you also get the low lows of emotion as well)
yeah i think it’s important to learn to shake a lot of stuff off, like any sense of having to defend things against people who are going to take the opportunity to try and ruin your day, but in terms of bearding idk… i also think its important take it as an opportunity to reframe the way you think about it?
because its kind of what bearding is, historically speaking. so if you make it about morality or if you make every bearding action a bad sign or something to be mad about or sad about, then you’re gonna set yourself up for a world of hurt. bearding has existed in the entertainment industry and otherwise as a way for gay (umbrella term) people to redirect attention away from things they want to protect because of the society that we live in. it’s important of course to lament that society and to hope for a more free future for everyone, but i don’t think it’s something to feel bad about, if that makes sense.
and this isn’t me saying to like, go numb or to uphold the status quo. just to find ways for your pastimes to not get in the way of your life or the energy you need to make the world around you a better place. it can also be a chance to channel emotion you might feel about it into taking actions irl to leave a positive impact. im not sure i’ve ever said this before because i usually keep what i do in my life separate from what i do here, but i remember back in late 2018 i was left feeling very distraught but i took it as an opportunity to step up at work and i joined a team that changed some wording for benefits policies at my company, so as to be explicitly applicable to couples regardless of the gender of both partners (gay marriage is still not fully recognized by every prefecture in japan). there’s some other stuff i did too with that team and i still help them out with translating and stuff, whenever i can be helpful. even if small, i think there a lot of opportunities in our everyday lives to help someone out, even if it’s just helping a family that looks lost at a train station or something. and taking those small actions can help us take charge of our feelings even when the going gets rough. i didn’t mean to end this on a We Are The World type message lolol but i just mean that ultimately this fandom ought to be a place where we can get a little bit of joy out of the things that are joyful, and take other moments to get inspired to take actions in our real lives, where ultimately this pastime of ours is a net positive on our lives… if that makes sense. i think this is true of any hobby in your life, really.

I love your country by country BL breakdowns and your trope discussions! Are there any tropes that are specific to Thailand, Korea or Japan or that show up extra often from a particular country?
Oooo, very good question.
Country Specific BL Tropes!
Visual tropes that specific countries seem to like more than others. Which is not to say everyone doesn’t do them, or Thailand doesn’t do the most (because they do the most BL). It’s a matter of in-country statistical re-occurrence.
Taiwan’s Beloved Tropes
Tumblr media
Crash into me, AKA proximity alert and the pratfall kiss (I actually call them out for this one) I don’t think I have ever seen a Taiwanese Bl that hasn’t had this trope
Tumblr media
Head in lap (also China & Japan)
Tumblr media
Boyfriend sunshade
OTHERS
Weak seme uke dynamics
Masc presenting physicality
Friends to lovers
Casual physical affection and domesticity (heads in laps are popular)
Childhood crush & long term pining (also China)
Stepbrother trope (and other taboo power dynamics like teacher/student, age gap)
Kidnapping for love (also China) - old and rare
Korea’s Beloved Tropes
Korea is really strategic about their tropes and seems to be aware of the entire scope available but only deploy them as required to move along the narrative. As such they don’t really have ones that reoccur all the time or that they lean into (aside from the usual romance beats like first kiss, jealousy, etc...)
Tumblr media
Beach frolic - this seems to be used (like Thailand) by the tourist board to remind people that they have beaches too.
Tumblr media
Back hugs - yeah I didn’t realize this either
Tumblr media
Wound tending, a variation on this one does seem to get into all their BL, it is a very useful plot device and excuse for physical contact (like messy eater, with is pretty rare in KBL - they don't like messy)
Tumblr media
Extreme height difference (Japan & Thailand do this too, but no one pushes it as hard in BL as Korea)
OTHERS

“queer” it generally means they like people of multiple genders, or regardless of their gender. “
That’s basically the same definition for pan sexual tho? 🤔
yeah! there are a lot of labels out there that cross over and are really quite similar.
at the end of the day, a label is just a label. it’s a word and it can mean whatever the hell you need it to mean to make you feel most comfortable with your identity.
some people don’t like how “pansexual” makes them feel, but they may feel Way safer and more comfortable using the label “queer” to identify themselves.
now, i just did a little google search of the definitions of each of these words and this is what it has provided for me, and i’ll leave them just below. but in saying this, THESE DEFINITIONS ARE NOT WHAT BEING PAN OR QUEER MEANS FOR EVERYONE! this is just the “definition” in the dictionary.
pan: sexually or romantically attracted to people regardless of their sex or gender.
queer: denoting or relating to a sexual or gender identity that does not correspond to established ideas of sexuality and gender, especially heterosexual norms.
so what we can take from that, in the simplest of ways, is that yes they are similar, but no they are not necessarily the same.
as i said in the last post, being queer can mean many different things for many different people; it can be an umbrella term, it can be used when you don’t want to “pick a label”, it can be used when you are still figuring out which label suits you best, it can be used when you’re strictly attracted to someone of the same gender or someone along the queer gender binary, it can be used when other people ask for your sexuality because you know they are not owed the answer, it can be used if you are queer, and so on and so forth.
being “queer” can mean an array of different things, and you know what? being “pansexual” can also mean an array of different things.
after all, sexuality is a spectrum and every individuals experience with it will be different, and they’ll interpret it differently based on their own life experiences and their relationship with themself.
hopefully this helps! (remember, im just a little queer dude sharing my own experience and point of view, so what im saying is not going to be true for everyone! once again leading to my point that sexuality is a spectrum and it’s different for everyone) have a good day anon! <3 😊🏳️‍🌈

So the thing is that that's my exact issue with using "the queer community" as an umbrella term. A lot of people do not identify as queer and don't want the word applied to them, and they are told that "we're not talking about you then" but y'all are using queer for everything. You're excluding us from discussions of our own oppression because we ask you nicely not to slap a single label on everybody. LGBTQIA+ explicitly includes queer. It's right there, it's the Q! It also doesn't exclude people. "The queer community and if that doesn't mean you then fuck you we aren't talking about you (even though we are explicitly discussing things that directly affect you, and we will use this word for ALL discussions of YOUR lived experiences)" excludes literally anybody who has trauma around the word queer. I don't want to be called a fag, I don't want to be called a tranny, and I don't want to be called a queer. Nobody excludes me from trans discussions because I don't want to be called a tranny and they've reclaimed it. Nobody excludes me from gay discussions because I don't want to be called a fag and they've reclaimed it.
you're willfully misunderstanding the situations you're using as examples and this is the problem you need to sort out with yourself instead of making it everyone else's problem.
if i wanna talk to other queer people and only queer people, i have that right! i don't have to include you, i have no obligation to you. we are strangers.
if i wanna talk to the LGBTQIA+ community i will say so! but i often don't and that's my business.
and there's some overlap with experiences yes! but again, don't get involved with spaces/conversations you're gonna be hostile to because you don't like the language! blacklist said language so that you do not see it.
you're not entitled to a seat at a table that has similar experiences as you if you don't like what language is being used at the table. you need to curate your own experiences to avoid being uncomfortable and hurt.
if you're not making a huge stink about ppl reclaiming fag or tranny, then yeah of course you're not going to be asked to leave those discussions. but time and time again, people have come to conversations about QUEER people and asked them to stop saying queer because it makes them feel bad. the problem is not us. if you feel bad, then you need to excuse yourself. that may feel like being excluded, but it's not. asking us to censor our goddamn identities is excluding us.
again, if you are not queer, then i am never referring to you when i say the queer community. if you are choosing to feel put out by that, that's a you problem. it's no different than ppl referring to the lesbian community or the bi community. it's about the ppl who ID with those labels. are you seriously going to whine to bi ppl who refer to the bi community talking about things you also experience even if you don't ID as bi? because i don't think so.
all the hangup is about the word queer. it's YOUR hangup. it's not my responsibility.

Are ghosts and spirits the same? I have seen that some use this word separately, as if they were two different beings. I understand that Yaoguai sometimes have the word spirit in their name. Like Fox Spirit. or that some cultivated animals have the word spirit. In Chinese mythology, spirit is not necessarily a ghost, but different?
So spirits are kinda seen as different depending on what the original translation is and depending on what you think counts as a 'spirit.'
Yaoguai (妖怪 means basically something as vague as a 'monster' or just strange creatures really. This is the umbrella term for all strange supernatural creatures basically.
But there are subcategories for Yao that we can look into! There is something like Yaogui 妖鬼 which does translate more as strange ghosts. I don't see this used a lot but it technically still counts under the Yao material. Yaomo 妖魔 or or Mogui 魔鬼 is something more like learning to like daemon or a divine spirit (good or evil) so to speak. This might be more what certain powerful beings that are not considered to be human could be called, like the Four Animals or even dragons could be considered. Not quite gods but still powerful and generally treated with respect, I see a lot of like evil yaomo being translated as like Devil if that helps to try to describe it. Yaojing 妖精 is what most other non-demon and non-human yao fall into as more like 'well meaning spirits'. The best English world I can think that fits this is more like "sprite" or "faerie" but think of them like nature spirits in Norse mythos. They aren't ghosts, just born out of nature and can be good or bad but definitely not human. This is a lot of what Fox Spirits can be called as while they are Yaoguai they can be considered well-meaning or harmless and as such can be translated as 'spirit' to better convey their nature. Demon in the English term has a negative context and so I see a lot of translators use 'Spirit" to convey that supernatural aspect but still well-meaning nature. That is why you also see the term "Fairy" used in other regards as opposed to Demon just to show they are not intended to be evil but still supernatural creatures.
So yeah maybe a Ghost can be a Spirit but like not all Spirits are Ghosts so to speak. I see them mostly being described as two different things but not all translators agree on the same thing.

I admit I was trawling for some easy smut to read and got Underline the Black. Usually I back out when the story doesn't go how I expect and instead I've binged the whole thing in six hours and find myself painfully relating to Efni's gender and sexual trauma.
I don't know how to describe it but I'm AFAB and grew up Christian with all these expectations and secular ones and I was so scared I rejected everything and tried to be this person I thought I had to be. And I've done that over and over and I'm thirty now and I think I'm finally coming to terms with my place in gender and sex and all that.
It's still a long journey and idk I know a lot of trans people get squicked by ABO stuff and it's based off bunk wolf science but. Idk. This is the most I've ever felt seen I think. So thanks.
Hi hi,
I really love omegaverse, you might be surprised how many trans people are writing it on AO3 - trust me when I say it's a lot of us. :)
A lot of the reasons trans folk can find omegaverse squicky is actually a lot of the same reasons why trans folk can find it cathartic or interesting or crave reading it. Everyone's reasons for ending up in omegaverse are different, because it's really just a huge umbrella term for like, countless different genres, tropes, levels of worldbuilding, sex, and types of story.
I don't really mind that it's based off debunked science, hell, I've even written a logical explanation for that in my Perth Shifters series lol. There's a lot of science we have today that was initially based off of bad science, that scientists then went 'oh yeah, that's not great, but we might keep the terminology anyway, because everyone's using it.' So that works out just fine. It's not like all of our science in reality started off in the best places, some started off in pure medieval spaces and then just kind of...grew up over time.
I apologise for the lack of easy smut though in Underline the Black! I have a lot more of erotica / smut in my other works, like Spoils of the Spoiled or Game Theory, so far we're still a while away from anything more than the handjob that's coming up in a couple of chapters re: Efnisien and Gary, that's definitely a slowburn! :D
(You might like Underline the Red though, which has some alpha/beta smut instead!)
And yeah, gender stuff is so hard. I'm glad you're coming to a place that feels right or is starting to feel right re: gender. I know I started that journey for myself in my early 30s and now that I'm in my early 40s it's only really started to settle into place. This stuff can be rough, especially when you're raised in repressed and oppressive and harmful societies.
Being able to explore gender stuff in Underline the Black has been a lot of fun for me. I much prefer doing it this way, than doing it with the genders we already have irl, tbh, because it lets me detach a little, but it also means that the omegaverse genders can become metaphorical for a lot of different issues, and I enjoy the power of something that can work in a few different ways. :D
(Also just a note, in the future can you please write it as a/b/o or just say omegaverse, because otherwise you're just writing a horrible slur towards Aboriginal Australians and we're generally trying to avoid that. Appreciate it going forward thank you! :) ).
