Eleven going straight to Cherry Lane after a huge blow-out argument with Mike, hoping to hash it all out with Max and get some advice, but when she gets there it’s Billy who answers the door.
“Sorry, kid,” he tells her, because Max isn’t home and he’s not sure when she’ll be back. Eleven is disappointed, of course she is, but she apologizes for bothering Billy and turns to leave. “Hold up,” he says, because there’s no cars around, no bikes in the driveway — she walked all this way, and the clouds are gathering fast, and this quiet, kind-of-weird girl is shockingly the only one of Maxine’s friends that he can tolerate. She doesn’t grate on his nerves like the others, and he’s already heard the rumblings of thunder. “At least wait out the rain,” he says, pointing up at the sky. He turns back into the house and leaves the front door open.
Eleven follows him inside. The TV is on, muted, captions flicking across the screen, some heavy metal band with big hair and dark make-up giving an interview to a poised young reporter. El can’t decide who looks more out of place. Billy’s music is on loud enough to shake the walls. She wanders into the kitchen where there’s a still-smoking cigarette in an ashtray on the table, sandwich fixings spread out over the counter. Billy asks if she’s hungry, already taking out an extra plate, so she lets him make her lunch.
“So,” he says, back turned, “what’d he do this time?”
He’s not sure why he asks. Maybe he’s just bored. Maybe he just doesn’t want to sit in awkward silence, waiting for the rain to stop or for Max to come home, whichever comes first. Maybe he can tell that El is upset. Maybe he actually cares.
“What?” Eleven is clearly confused, doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
“Mike,” Billy says matter-of-factly. “That’s why you’re looking for Maxine, right? Your boyfriend’s a dumbass?”
He’s so casual about it. In fact, El has never seen him this relaxed before. And there is a familiarity, Max’s words in Billy’s mouth, because she’s always calling Mike all sorts of names, dumbass and jackass and dipshit. So El says, “Yes.”
She thanks Billy when he slides a sandwich in front of her, watching him cautiously as he sits across from her and digs into his own. There’s something disarming about him today. He’s always intimidated her a little bit, something about the...well, the everything about him that set her on edge. He’s big, his loud, he’s strong. She knows he can be mean. But right now he’s tapping his foot to some rock song on the radio, wiping mustard from the corner of his mouth, tamping out his cigarette because she wrinkled her nose at the smell, and she is struck by how natural it all feels.
“So,” he says again, “what’d he do?”
And El takes a deep breath and she tells Billy everything. She tells him about how Mike ditched her for a Hellfire Club meeting, about how he never even told her about the campaign, about how he never taught her how to play D&D even though he’d promised time and time again.
Billy listens intently, earnestly, and when El is finished they both sit there in silence for one beat, two, and then Billy says, “He’s a shithead.” El laughs. Billy does, too, but he doubles down. “I’m serious. I mean, listen, anyone that’s gonna pick some fantasy bullshit over his girl? There’s something wrong up here.” He points to his head. “And that’s his fucking problem.”
El nods along, because she likes everything that Billy is saying. They talk a little more as the rain patters against the windows. She helps him clean up the dishes and they retreat into the living room, where Billy turns down the music and unmutes the TV. There’s music videos playing now, and Billy explains to El who the bands are, names off each member, offers bits of trivia. This is where Max finds them when she gets home, fresh off her 10th first date with Lucas after their 9th break-up, and she’s shocked to find Eleven and Billy together, is even more shocked to learn that El has been there for hours. She joins them on the couch and El catches her up to speed. Billy excuses himself, makes up some excuse about being girl talked-out, but he ruffles El’s hair as he leaves, already shifting her place in his social hierarchy and plotting how he might fuck with Mike Wheeler the next day. He’s got a second little sister now, and he’ll be damned if he lets anyone treat her like shit.

He'd moved to metropolis on a whim.
The city was big, he's earning good money via commissioned things (most people come to him for cosplay actually, who knew that knowing how to build a sci-fi gun that doesn't even work would be this wanted??) and he's got a nice apartment!
Superman and Supergirl were the active heroes, he didn't need to involve himself anymore with the world of heroes, he would continue as a civilian. It was better this way.
So how come LexLuthor, of all people, what is his luck?, sends him an invitation to LexCorp AND once declined, seemed to have created some sort of energy absorbing weapon that directly zoomed in on his immediate whenever around?
Civilian life is one thing.
Being rescued via Super for the 9th time is another.
"Hey Danny." Supergirl grins, they're floating to the side as Superman deals with Lex.
"Hey, Supergirl." Danny replies with a sigh, holding his bag.

✨🤍 some steddie softness for @thefreakandthehair's birthday, i hope it's the very best so far! 🤍✨(please please your day comes first, read this whenever you have time and space to breathe 🤍)
Eddie is not a religious man — far from it, actually. But there are a few things that make him believe in higher powers. In angels. In destiny and luck and a love so strong it could conquer everything.
This very moment is one of them.
Stevie, soft and sleepy beside him in the back of the car as Nancy is driving, the dim light of the passing street lamps painting his face in hues of gold like the light itself favours Steve Harrington, caressing his features with the softest of shadows.
He’s beautiful. Ethereal. Perfectly angelic with his eyes closed, his whole body turned towards Eddie in the warmth of the car.
It takes Eddie’s breath away, his heart taking up space where before there were his lungs and ribcage, growing in size until he feels like he is about to burst. And even then he keeps looking, staring at that pretty face that looks so at peace with the whole world right now. Eddie has never seen Steve like this, but now he understands why people start wars. Why people defy gods and death itself to be with their one true love. Why Orpheus looked back.
He understands. Because Steve, his Stevie, warm and safe and perfectly fine in the backseat of a car? That is everything. He doesn’t even need to kiss or touch so long as he just gets to look. And be. Oh, to be at the same time that Steve is.
That might just be life’s greatest gift to him.
A tiny sigh falls from Steve’s lips and Eddie really, really might be about to burst.
“Hey, angel,” he whispers, because moments like this aren’t made for anything but hushed words, their truths too heavy, too sincere for the world to hear and keep on spinning. He doesn’t need the world to spin as long as there is Steve.
“Hi,” Steve whispers back, his eyes still closed but the smile lighting up, luring Eddie in like he is but a moth drawn to the flame.
Eddie leans in and rests his forehead against Steve’s, his hand coming up to cradle a light-kissed cheek. Steve leans into it, following Eddie’s hand like maybe they are twin stars pulling each other closer until there will be an explosion of light and creation. Steve nuzzles against his palm and leans further into Eddie’s body until they share the same breath — but still it’s not enough.
Eddie wants to say so many things now that their hands are entangled, their soft exhales mixing. But after a while he notices that Steve is humming before gently singing along to the song coming quietly from the speakers.
“Take it easy with me, please. Touch me gently like a summer evening breeze. Take your time, make it slow. Andante, Andante. Just let the feeling grow.”
Eddie knows the song, recognises it instantly, and his breath gets stuck in his throat once more. Because he has a secret. He loves it. He has imagined for the longest time that one day, someone would make it his song. Sing it for him, to him.
He’s never told anyone because he has a reputation to uphold and more than enough metal music to listen to, but of course Steve wouldn’t care about his secrets being secret, and just oh so casually make his deepest, most private of dreams come true.
He’s an angel, that one. A hero. Myths and fairy tales should be woven around that heart of his, folklore speaking of his name until history itself wouldn’t dare to forget. No one can convince Eddie otherwise. Not in that moment, not with Steve singing so quietly, so gently, so adoringly.
I think I love you. I think I can’t ever stop, not when I’ve seen you like this. Not when you’ve just shown me what life can be about, what it should be about. Gods, I love you and love you and love you.
That’s what he wants to say.
But all that comes out is a marvelled, “Shit, Stevie.”
It has the desired effect of a huffed breath, an even wider smile, and Steve cuddling further into Eddie’s side, eyes still closed. Eddie brushes a kiss to Steve’s forehead and feels like maybe his love can make it into the fairy tale, too.
It will. Oh, it will, when Steve finally lifts his head from Eddie’s shoulder and looks at him through hooded eyes, all soft and sleepy and safe. A moment passes like this and Eddie can’t breathe, maybe he can never breathe again — but it only lasts until Steve slowly, so very slowly begins to lean in to claim Eddie’s lips with a kiss so gentle it could bring him back from the dead.
Eddie kisses Steve back just as slowly, because in moments like this there is no rush, no hurry. There’s only them, there’s only this. Only a kiss until there is another.
And with Steve, there is always another.
Nancy smiles as she is taking the long way to Steve’s house, rounding Loch Nora twice because she knows how comfy Steve gets in cars at night when he doesn’t have to drive and there is soft music playing.
Eddie kisses her goodbye on the forehead, fully aware of what she’s done. He doesn't tell her about the sun and the myths and all the wars he would start for Steve.
Nights like this are not meant for telling anyone about them. They can hardly be believed as it is. They can only be lived, hand in loving hand.

Ok ok, but hear me out on a Superbat AU
Clark is 14 when Luthor learns the truth about his origin. He goes missing 3 days after school finishes for the summer. His parents search for him relentlessly, for years they beg for the return of their son. But despite the search parties and the press conferences no one comes forward and Clark is never found. A missing persons case that haunts Smallville for the years to come.
On the eve of Clark's 18th birthday Superman appears. Hovering over Metropolis in a pitch black uniform. Martha recognizes her son instantly, and watches in horror as he sweeps through the streets with a single minded focus. He returns to Lexcorp with a thief clutched in one hand and the same eerily blank face he'd had in every clip that had been captured of him.
Luthor heralded him as a superhero, thanked him publicly for returning the thief to Lexcorp to be prosecuted. No one notices when the thief disappears, and though they ask where the Superman goes when he isn't hanging in the sky above Metropolis there is no one who seems to have an answer.
Lexcorp tells the world that they should trust this being that has come to help. That he has shown only kindness towards them. That if he goes after someone, it is only because they must have done something terrible to deserve it.
In Metropolis Superman haunts the golden city, hangs in the air high above them and listens to Luthors orders in his ears. He has never wanted to hurt someone, but he has no choice. He is Luthor's favorite weapon, this he knows. And if he strays, Luthor will know.
Across the bay a Court stirs, they have always worked from the shadows. Hidden in Gothams walls and with their hands in every one of Gothams pots. Metropolis has a hero hanging high above their head, but the Court has done business with the man who pulls it's strings and they believe this is something they can work together on.
So the Court calls for a meeting and they plot their own path.
3 months after Superman debuts the Voice of the Court meets with Lex Luthor and offers a deal.
A decade before Superman debuts the Waynes die, their son is never found. It is a tragedy that haunts Gotham for a decade. It is a warning. The Wayne family has long stood apart from the Court, but Thomas and Martha got in the way. Thomas and Martha hampered the Court's goals, and so they had to go. Their son was a warning.
And now, their son is the warning.
The Talon stalking from shadowed perch. The greatest the Court has ever produced. And so they send their greatest weapon alongside the Voice of the Court and a deal is struck.
Superman meets a Talon. They see another made a weapon, and they begin to wonder.
Must they always be weapons?

A very happy birthday to @thefreakandthehair 🥳
Steve pulls into the driveway behind Eddie’s van and just sits for a second after turning off the car. It’s been a shit day – he hates his new coworker, a kid puked in the aisle between the cartoons and the romantic comedies, and a downpour started the moment it was time to leave. He can feel a headache threatening just behind his left eye.
But none of that matters now. He breathes in and out until the frustration fades, feeling the tension ease out of his shoulders and clenched jaw. It’s movie night and Steve has the day off work tomorrow – which means he and Eddie will probably get pleasantly toasted and watch movies until they pass out together on the Munson’s couch. He’s been looking forward to it all day.
He pulls his umbrella out of the back seat and flicks it open, even though it’s not far to the door. The rain is coming down so hard it makes a drum beat on the thin nylon stretched over his head, so loud he almost misses the sound of cursing coming from the backyard – until a particularly loud “Fuck!” filters through the rain sounds.
Steve immediately circles around the corner of the house. He spots Eddie by the thrifted patio table, looking like a drowned cat with his curls weighted down by rainwater. Bizarrely, he seems to be wrestling with a bunch of balloons tied to the back of a chair.
“Eddie?” Steve calls out.
Eddie fumbles with the pocketknife he was using to try and cut the balloons free. “Shit!” He sticks his thumb into his mouth and flings the little blade onto the table. “Damn thing’s too dull to cut string, but it can still cut my hand? Argghhh!”
Steve jogs across the yard to reach him. “Hey, are you okay? What the hell are you doing out here?”
Eddie pouts as Steve hands him the umbrella, tugging the wounded hand away from his mouth so he can check it over.
“Well I had everything set up for an awesome party, and then this rain fucked it all up.”
“I didn’t know you were having a party,” Steve says absentmindedly. He smoothes a finger gently over the little cut on Eddie’s thumb. Thankfully, it’s not deep – the bleeding is already coming to a stop.
“Uh, yeah?” Steve looks up at Eddie’s confused tone. “For your birthday?”
Oh. Steve immediately feels like an idiot. It is his birthday – he’d actually forgotten it. He tries to laugh it off. “Oh yeah. I just wasn’t expecting a party or anything.”
Eddie looks weirdly upset by that statement. “But you’re… Steve, you’re the birthday guy. The party king of the Party. You love birthdays!”
That’s not exactly true. Steve likes taking care of people. He likes to give gifts and cook for his friends – birthdays just give him a good excuse. His own birthday has never really been a big deal.
“And after the blowout bash you put together for me, you didn’t think I’d try to do something for you?”
“I didn’t… you don’t have to like, return the favor or anything. That’s not why I did it.” Steve runs his hand through his hair nervously. All the volume is gone, deflated in the rain – just sad, limp strands of hair fighting to curl in whichever direction they please, instead of his carefully styled swoop. “I just… like to celebrate the people I care about.”
That might be admitting too much, but it’s the truth.
Eddie’s face softens. “Steve, this party isn’t some kind of obligation. I… we’re doing it for the same reason – to celebrate someone we care about.”
His dark eyes are so intense. It feels like there’s more there – a weight to his words, something Eddie’s not admitting to out loud yet. Like they’re standing on the edge of something, almost ready to take a leap.
The moment is broken when a rivulet of icy water runs down Steve’s back. He shivers violently, and both boys blink.
“Shit, you’re standing here soaked,” Steve says. “You must be freezing. Let’s get inside.”
They walk close together under the umbrella on the way back to the house, and Steve enjoys the warm press of Eddie’s shoulder against his own.
It’s not until they reach the door that something occurs to him. “Wait… you said ‘we’?”
Eddie flashes a wild, impish grin. He flings open the door, revealing a living room packed to bursting with damp partygoers, waterlogged streamers and balloons. “Surprise!!!”

To clarify about my new fic: I think it takes place in a world where Lex is less of a threat initially, and more obsessed with Superman than he is with anything super evil. Clark convinced Bruce to hint at their identities to try and convince Lex to “stop digging” before it turns into something the JL actually has to address with force.

But when it's your brother (Sometimes you look the other way)
https://archiveofourown.org/works/50990221
Dustin turns seventeen on a perfect day. It’s warm, but hasn’t quite hit that heavy, draining heat that summer promises, the one that can only be beat by decent air conditioning or free ice cream.
He turns seventeen and his mom looks like she’s going to cry, but it’s good, it’s great, it’s a perfect day.
(Or, I finished writing a lot of thoughts about Dustin turning the same age as Steve was when they became friends - started over here with @thefreakandthehair)

Captain Marvel & The Switched Minds Trope
Have y'all ever seen that episode of Justice League Unlimited where Lex Luthor switches minds/bodies with the Flash and a whole bunch of shenanigans happen? Yeah, I barely remember it, I need to do a re watch of the show some time, but it gave me a neat little idea.
What if that trope was used for Captain Marvel, with one of three people
Batman
Black Adam
Mr. Mind
If Captain Marvel switches bodies with Batman, imagine the hilarity if it happens while they are out of costume. Billionaire Bruce Wayne suddenly being mind/body swapped into the body of 10 year old homeless kid Billy Batson, and each of them having to navigate a day like that. Bruce wouldn't be happy, but at the very least he'd get a day of returning back to his childhood, getting to be a kid for just a little bit again. Or. We could go for the route where they mind swap while in costume, and Batman in Captain Marvel's body tries to investigate who his secret identity is, all the while hating that Captain Marvel in his body and making himself look like a fool in Gothom. (Which then results in a Batman (Captain Marvel) in Fawcett and and Captain Marvel (Batman) in Gothom. Ohhh, and the delicious angst of when Batman says shazam and finds out about Billy Batson!
If Captain Marvel switches minds with Black Adam, there are just so many fun and dark opportunities to show off just how malicious Black Adam can be once he has his hands on the powers of the Champion of Magic, even if just temporary. He'd wreck havoc and become a tyrant, striking terror into the world and earning the concerned and anger of the Justice League, who are under the impression this is still the real Captain Marvel. Black Adam won't even try to lie and attempt to remove them from his path, but when his fist is met with his own, Black Adam will learn the true meaning of never underestimating your opponent, especially yourself. Could definitely bring in some possibilities like showing off how strong Billy Batson is and a cool identity reveal.
As for Mr. Mind, I'm really interested in seeing a mind swap happen with him. Seeing as how their bodies and selves are drastically different, and how his mind control powers could be a factor in this. Kinda like that Kafka situation, if i remember the name right, there could be some amazing parallels of written well enough.
Billy in Mr. Minds body trying to warn the JL of Mr. Mind's plans, but, he is but a worm. He'd have to rely on using Mr. Mind's monstrous powers to relay the information needed, and maybe get the help of a certain pair of supersons (Tiny worm and tiny super powered children team up). Mr. Mind in Captain Marvel's body would be....
A threat.
Oh, there's also the option of Billy swapping bodies with Lex Luthor. Haha. Now THAT would be a rollercoaster of fun.
Anyways, that's all my thoughts for now, and just me saying that I really want to read/write a fanfiction where Captain Marvel (Billy) mind swaps with someone. Might not have expressed everything that I wanted to say correctly, but it's late right now and I am full of oatmeal, so I'm quite sleepy.
Please send me y'all's thoughts and opinions, I love it when y'all include your own things!
@wolfsbanesparks
especially you wolf, I was gonna send this as an ask to you but it got way too long in the end

Wedding Adventure, PART 1
Rating: T (swear words)
Ship: Heinz Doofenshmirtz/Perry the Platypus
Add tags: Human Perry, mute Perry, rewrite of Candace's Big Day, established relationship Perryshmirtz, marriage fic baybee, this was fun to write, all the Flynn-Fletchers and most of the Doofenshmirtzes are here.
Part 2 coming soon. (subscribe to this post)
A/N: The family knows they are OWCA agents, this is an AU where OWCA isn't a secret organisation, or at least not to family and loved ones. Heinz and Perry are both established OWCA agents, though Heinz still used to be an evil scientist. Perry's lore complies to the lore post I've made on him before.
"-weren't too angry about it, but a monkey was a monkey, and we are henceforth completely blacklisted from attending another political wedding in South India ever again."
The Flynn-Fletchers make appropriate ooh-and-ahhing noises, and Perry closes their large scrapbook album with some satisfying thump of finality, leaning back against the couch's backrest into his Heinz's embrace as Linda engages him in lighthearted discussions of grandeur wedding traditions and cultural holidays. Ferb struggles a bit with trying to properly peep the the front cover of the album from where he's standing on the carpet facing Perry, so Lawrence picks him up to put him on his lap, and Perry angles the book so the boy could enjoy touching it and appreciating all the details. He appreciates the boy's clear admiration; Perry deeply enjoys scrapbooking, and the album is a point of pride.
“Wow, Uncle Perry,” Phineas gushes, where he's practically sitting on Heinz's foot to for a closer look at the photos. “You and Dr. D has had so many cool adventures together!”
I know, huh? Perry signed, and ruffling the boy's hair. Ferb had boldly taken it upon himself to flip through the pages of the album to admire all the photos they had been showing before. He points a photo taken ground camera angle, looking up as they were jumping off a plane.
He remembers that one. Heinz had somehow gotten his parachute lines tangled then, jumping down the side of an active Volcano line in Indonesia. They reached the ground in one piece though, generally speaking.
“Yeah, you liked that one, kid?” Heinz asked, smiling. He always tried to be attentive to the boys' interests as possible, not least because he saw a lot of himself in them, and the childhood he could have had, had his own insatiable curiosity and intelligence was humored instead of scorned. Perry couldn't help himself from planting a kiss on his cheek, as Heinz turned the page to show them both the least blurry photo they could keep of a video as they escaped from man-eating piranha plants in the amazon.
Candace sighed wistfully at the sight. ”You guys are so cute together. I wish me and Jeremy are gonna grow up as close and affectionate you guys still are even after 5 years.”
Phineas clearly disagreed, at least from the confused scrunch of his nose by their blatant display of PDA, but he's way too polite-and distracted- to comment. Perry chortles, and ruffles his hair.
He wonders if their neighbour's kid from across the street- what was her name? Isabelle? -still had the blatant crush she had on Phineas since he had last seen her. Linda's boy still clearly had other priorities in mind, poor girl.
Ferb flips over to the back of the scrapbook to reveal empty pages, at which point he turns to face the both of them inquisitively.
“Ferb's right, Uncle Perry,” Phineas verbally agrees. “There's still some empty pages in your scrapbook. So many more adventures!”
“Good point, boys. Any plans for the rest of summer?” Lawrence asked.
”Well, we are going to go to the Galapagos tomorrow,“ Heinz muses, sending Perry a meaningful look. Perry blushes. "But we'll be back in America by Saturday for the reception."
”Reception?“ Linda asked in surprise. ”Who's gotten married?“
Perry and Heinz smile, and -as one- reveal the golden rings, hanging by subtle, durable chains around each their necks that had been hidden by the necklines of their shirts. The family gasps, the meaning of the gesture unmistakable; but Candace so loved putting it into words.
”You're engaged?“ She shrieks.
“Apparently it's why your uncle had been so insistent we come home between missions.” Heinz laughed, bumping into Perry's shoulder teasingly. Perry responds by rolling his eyes, and reaching for his fiance's hand, planting a sweet kiss on titanium knuckles. “He had this whole elaborate treasure hunt proposal planned by walking us through all our most meaningful locations of our first meeting, right here in Danville.”
Candace squealed. Perry started signing, picking up where Heinz had left off. We would have stayed to plan a full wedding too, and I really wanted the whole family to be there, but the Galapagos mission is a time-sensitive emergency. I managed to talk my boss into staying another night over so we could break the news to you, as well as Vanessa and Charlene, in person.
Linda coo-ed. "Oh, Perry this is so wonderful. I am so happy for you two. You're fantastic together."
"Does this mean you're going to have a wedding in the Galapagos?" Phineas asked.
Perry shrugs helplessly, then shakes his head.
"We might not have the time," Heinz elaborates regretfully. "Time-sensitive missions don't really give us much space for wedding planning, so we're planning to sign some documents, maybe find a church so we could at least be legally bound when we land, though neither of us are, hah, particularly religious…,“
"Like an elopement?" Linda blurts, surprised. Her husband chides her with a gentle “Honey-,”
“Well, not really.” Heinz says, scratching the back of his head. He tends to fidget, when he's nervous. “I mean-,”
“ELOPE?” Candace yelled, outraged. She's gotten to her feet, a look of wild panic in her eyes. Perry blinks. “Elope? No! You can't elope! That's so quick! Weddings are supposed to be this big, special thing! It's supposed to be the biggest, most momentous thing in your life, and you can't throw that away for some-some-,” she sputters. “Time-sensitive, life or death emergency on the other side of the globe!”
Perry and Heinz shares a quick, panicked look by her outburst. Candace, dear, Perry tries to sign, but she wasn't listening. She seemed to be on an absolute roll.
”Besides!“ She yells. ”Uncle Perry, if you get married in some church in the Galapagos, I can't be there!“ She stomps her foot for emphasis. ”When I was little, you promised me that I was going to be your bridesmaid. I can't be there in the Galapagos! What about my needs?!“
This time, Heinz throws away all pretence of subtlety, and turns to face Perry with a brief, but pointed, stare. Linda and Lawrence gasps. “Candace!” Her mother exclaims, scandalised.
“But mom-!”
Perry meets his fiance's gaze, embarrassed, but instead of something stern, Heinz has a calculating look in his eye, that thousand-yard stare he does when he's about to do something impulsive. He checks in with Perry just the once, a quick blink of his eyes full of meaning. Perry hesitates, but nods.
Heinz turns to the side, an uncharacteristically gentle touch to the back of Linda's hand that stops her as she is about to scold her daughter for her inappropriate outburst. “She's right, Linda,” he says quickly, with a chuckle. “I mean, for all our sins even Charlene and I had a proper wedding, for all the good that did. It's meant to signify something special, and I would love that for Perry and I.”
Heinz reached over to squeeze his hand, and Perry takes a deep breath as he turns towards his niece. Candace, I really am sorry. I know I made you a promise, but there's only so much we can do with the time we have, and what with how dangerous each of our missions are, Dr. D and I have long agreed to take every chance together we could get, and we want to start our very next mission and the next step of our lives living our truth. As spouses. Perry squeezes Heinz's hand right back, and the man smiles encouragingly as Candace visibly calms.
"We could go to the courthouse before we leave-,” Heinz suggests kindly, before he is once more interrupted.
“No! We need to have a real wedding!” She reiterates, then started to beam. Perry didn't trust that beam. “We could have it in the backyard!”
”What?“ said Heinz.
”What?“ Said Lawrence.
”Great idea, sis!“ Phineas enthused.
Linda pinches the bridge of her nose, likely keeping in mind that she was entertaining guests. Perry wants to give her a hug. She looks like she needs it. "Candace," she says delicately. "We can't plan a real wedding in a day.”
”Oh, duh.“ She says, before rushing up the stairs, presumeably to her own room. There is some loud noises of bumping, stumbling and rummaging as the rest of the family are left downstairs in various baffled emotional states.
“Boy,” Heinz muses, smacking his lips. “You weren't kidding when you told me she was high-strung.”
Perry really hadn't been, but he wasn't given the chance to respond. Candace returns in a rush, suddenly dressed in a beautiful layered purple tulled gown, and a delicate face of make-up. Her slippers match. She's got a tiara. She's also holding her own tome of a scrapbook, bursting at the seams with paper cut-outs and brochures, and filling Perry with the cold, creeping feeling of dread.
“I've been planning this since I was ten.” She chirps excitedly. Lawrence blinks. “I can set up a perfect wedding so that you two can marry in a way that you'll never forget, and-,” She pauses importantly, stepping forward to approach Perry and Heinz to flip open her own scrapbook and show them its contents. Heinz raises a brow in respect. "Still have you two on the plane straight to the Galapagos with time to spare."
Once again, Perry and Heinz turn to look at each other, this time to non-verbally communicate their stunned surprise. But the boys had gotten to their feet in excitement, and everything was happening so fast. Candace hands Perry and Lawrence a magazine cutout for an ad for a local tailor's, with a penmarked address, and begins pulling them to their feet, pushing them towards the front door. “Uncle Perry, you and Dad are going to go into town to get suits and fresh haircuts, while Mom and I are going to the Salon to get manicures and matching bridesmaid outfits. Dr D, I've called Vanessa over, and she's gonna bring Miss Charlene so you guys can discuss and arrange for friends and family contacts for the guest list, so long as it's under the 50-person range with a plus one limit, as well as find another pair of wedding rings.”
Heinz sputters, likely to the very last part. Their engagement rings are made with re-forged parts of old Inators, and likely he'll want their wedding rings to be made with much the same sentiment. But Candace was on a mission, and there was nought to stop her.
“Can we help?” Phineas asked excitedly. Ferb was vibrating on his feet.
Candace groans. “Fine, you can help me plan the grand entrance. But no funny business!”
Perry hears Phineas turn to his brother saying half of his usual catchphrase (“Ferb, I know what we're going to-,”) before the door is slammed shut behind him, leaving him and Lawrence standing confused on the front porch of the house and only partly dressed for town. Lawrence managed to grab his keys and wallet, at least, which was a small mercy.
“Well,” Lawrence says. “I suppose we're getting suits, eh, little brother?”
Perry was only Lawrence's brother through legal means, and he detests being called little. Lawrence knows this, the little shit, but Perry doesn't have the energy to fight him on this one. He sighs. Let's just leave before Vanessa and Charlene-
A beautifully sleek dark green and black Mercedes screeches to a halt in front of their house, and Perry hears Charlene scream for her daughter to be careful as the teenager lets herself out the passenger side door, manic and dishevelled. From the middle of the road, she stares and points at them, screaming: “You're getting married?”
Perry sighs again, and bumps Lawrence's shoulder.
“Yup, that's our cue.” He agrees. “First to the car gets the radio?”
Perry beats him to the station wagon, but he doesn't let Perry change the station anyway. Prick.

Dustin, who has just learned Steve that is with both Eddie and Billy, who splits his non-Hellfire afternoons between the arcade and the video store while he waits for his mom to get home and therefore ends up hanging with the three of them on the slow nights that Eddie and Billy spend milling about and smoking their cigarettes and bothering Steve, watching them tease Steve one afternoon, watching Steve still flush around both of them even though they’ve all been dating for a good five months, out of the blue asks Steve, “If both Eddie and Billy were drowning and you could only save one, which one would you save?”
All three of them look at him like he’s sprouted new heads, but then Billy gets this sly look on his face, wraps his arms around Steve and hooks his chin over Steve’s shoulder, asks him, “Yeah, Stevie. Who would you save?”
“That’s a dumb question,” says Max, who has been bored, roaming the aisles and maybe messing with a few tapes for shits and giggles. “Billy can swim.”
“Wait,” Eddie frowns, looking between Max and Dustin. “You think I can’t swim?”
“Well…” says Robin, who has been scanning in returned inventory behind the counter, sharing a bag of Skittles with Billy as they always did on nights like this, both of them fighting over the red ones.
“Oh, come on!” says Eddie.
“It’s okay, baby. Steve’ll save you,” says Billy.
“They’ve got a point,” Steve says. “Billy’s a lifeguard and all. He’s probably the best swimmer out of all of us. So, Eddie.”
Billy squeezes Steve a little harder, murmurs, “If I do drown, and you let me, I’m haunting your ass.”
“You wouldn’t drown,” Steve insists.
“Anyone can drown,” says Dustin, exasperated. “Fine! Fine. You’re in a burning building and you can only save one. Do you save Eddie, or Billy?”
“Why can’t we save ourselves?” asks Billy.
“I don’t know!” says Dustin. “You passed out from smoke inhalation.”
“Eddie,” Max says. “He’s easier to lift if he’s unconscious.” She looks at Billy, tells him, “No offense, but you’re heavy as shit.”
Billy smirks, makes a show of flexing his muscles, says, “None taken.”
“I was asking Steve,” Dustin says.
“I’d save Eddie, too,” Robin pipes up. “Sorry, Billy. But with you gone, I don’t have to share my candy.” She brandishes a red Skittle, pops it into her mouth before Billy can steal it. He scowls, opens his palm, and she empties the remains of the bag into his hand.
“Again,” Dustin sighs. “I was asking Steve.”
“I’m saving them both,” Steve says. Robin quirks an eyebrow. “What? I could lift them both if I had to. Adrenaline and stuff, right? People get, like, superhuman strength from it.”
“That’s not the question,” Dustin says. “You have to choose one.”
“Fine,” Steve sighs, hands falling over Billy’s, which are still held fast around his waist. “Billy.”
“You’re just saying that because everyone else picked Eddie,” Billy teases.
“Yes, I am,” Steve confirms. “Someone has to look out for your annoying ass.”
“And my ass thanks you for your service,” says Billy, playfully nipping at Steve’s ear.
“Oh, my God,” Dustin groans. “Get a room.”
Eddie laughs, gestures to Steve and Billy and says, “Gentlemen. You heard the man.”
“Break room’s free,” Robin offers, though Eddie is already leading the way, Billy backing up to following him, tugging Steve along.
“Keep it PG in there!” Max calls after them.
“PG-13 is the best we can offer,” chimes Eddie.
Again, Dustin groans, “Oh my God.”

Several Sentence Sunday
tagged by @housewifebuck @wildlife4life @giddyupbuck thank you<3
more from the angst in autumn fic! and a little more than 7 sentences. the whump begins<3
His first instinct is to take a deep breath, which only sends electric pain to his lungs and ribs.
“Fuck,” he croaks, voice like sandpaper. The pain is even sharper, and panic creeps in as he forces himself to open his eyes to figure out where he is and what the fuck is going on.
The first thing he sees through blurry vision is the front window of his car, which is mostly gone—he realizes with a hiss that the sharp stings on his cheek that isn't laying on the deflating airbag must be broken glass.
Fuck. He wants to take it out, but he can barely move his arms, which both feel like dead weight, and he can't sit up because he's pretty sure he's being crushed between the seat and the dash, and his seatbelt is definitely digging into his skin and—
“I'm in love with you!”
Buck.
Oh God.
(reminder to interact with this post if you wanna be notified when i post fic!)
