Are Cheating Clark: this grabbed my brain and won’t let go, but Lois is a very good, badass reporter. She’s been to war zones, and to military camps. Once she realizes what’s going on (because she’s too smart to not figure it out), she sits Clark down and shows him just how much homoerotic subtext/implications there are through history between soldiers/warriors.
“There’s no shame in finding something special with someone who fights along beside you, Clark. Honestly, I expected it sooner. Am I a little upset that your biology didn’t pick me? Yeah, sure. But it’s not anything I can control, or you. I’ll get over it. It just means you’re human after all.”
She puts her hands on her hips and stares down one of the most powerful beings on her planet.
“If you fuck anyone else, though, I will NOT be happy.”
Lois Lane giving her husband the most frightening, overly-detailed hall pass of all time is SO funny to me, even though it's angsty. Like, alright, you get a pass this ONE time because your Kryptonian cells say you need to fuck your best friend! But if your little cells keep saying you need to fuck the rest of your friends, I will carve them out of you with Bruce's Kryptonite :)

Bruce gets so scared that jason is hurt one time during patrol that he doesn't see a bullet being shot his way and gets severely hurt
Yessss! The dad instinct! I had something similar like this in my Mandalorian Batfamily fic because I was struggling to figure out a good weakness for Mand’alor Wayne since he was such a good fighter and had the Manda/psychic stuff to help.
Then I realized. If one of his kids got hurt, that would overrule all of those skills and advantages. The sound of Cass screaming — the sight of her blood, of her going down — that would distract him, even if just for a second. And one second would be all it takes.

It’s also interesting in the sense that, at least to me, Bruce can be very very casual about sex almost blasé right. So to him, at least for a minute, he may write the whole affair off as a biological urge from Clark and how it doesn’t actually count as cheating necessarily
Like he still thinks Clark should talk to Lois BUT from his point of view the emotional aspect isn’t there (it is) which is why I think he’d keep it a secret from Lois for any amount of time at all
He blames himself and he blames biology but he never ever ever thinks that Clark would pick him on any scale other than being forced to
This to me is also why the rest of the batfam wouldn’t say anything either. Ignoring the canon amount of times dick and Tim Have cheated on people, they all probably view intimacy in a very similar way 
Very interesting. Also pulls up the possibility of an angsty scene where Clark's under the influence of Kryptonite and has to ask himself if it's really a biological urge after all, or any longer. Would he choose Bruce even without the influence of Kryptonian biology?
Personally, and I might be wrong here, I think there's very few romantic partners Bruce would feel bad about cheating on, in the long term. Since most of his partners tend to be for his cover, he's already lying and betraying their trust in smaller, other ways. But I might be off.

I do find it interesting how many people have mentioned his kids being mad at him cause (as I said in a prev anon) Dick and Tim have canonically cheated before! Not hating just interesting to see how out of character certain moments in comics can feel. I like the idea of a mostly silent disapproval but each of them ultimately rooting for Bruce’s happiness over everything. Like they love Lois! Bruce made a huge mistake! But also that’s their dad…and any mistake he makes is just that. A mistake. It’s not a fault of his character
I was also mulling over how much you could compare and contrast Bruce and Clark by having Bruce be with Selina at the time
Like having him immediately tell Selina what happened, why it happened, and if it’s gonna happen again. Just like open communication especially when it involves the mission right
Obviously the differences in the two relationships too. Like Selina and Bruce are closer to a situationship but they have the ability to discuss this in a way that Clark doesn’t mostly cause he’s repressed (very ironic)
I am also a fan of Bruce almost siding with Lois in all of this?? Like everyone is kinda pitting them against each other but Bruce doesn’t think he’s in the right. There’s nothing to pit. He was wrong and she should be supported etc etc
Maybe I’ve been reading too many Mafia AUs but I get the feeling, outside of Clark, the batkids really don’t air their grievances with Bruce to the wider world! Maybe to their partners. But not to those outside of the family. They’ll be furious or upset with Bruce, they can fight, but they still close ranks at the end of the day.

Okay but the angst of Bruce dying from soul bond not being full filled is delicious. Of course Clarke would Never allow Bruce to die, even if it cost him Lois over this, but if after Lois learns about the cheating and Clarkes chooses Lois, I don't think Bruce would tell Clarke.
I think Bruce would kind of assume it's his fault, and if he can't push through this, which in his mind is his own fault, well, he deserves it. Especially since his kids are mad at him, Dick and Jason are not talking to him. So as the effects grow worse, Bruce never says anything, dealing with it on his. At least, until his heart stops, and Clark suddenly feels Bruce's death like his hear withering and dying. He screams and collapses, in more pain he's ever been in. Maybe if he had been listening to Bruce's heart like he had done for years, had heard it stutter, he could have been fast enough to save Bruce. But he had choosen Lois, completely and totally, even knowing there would be consequences to separating from Bruce.
Alfred (and Dick) knew Bruce was going through it, and Alfred even knew about the soul bond aspect (no one else did) and that his health was failing because of it, but thought he would recover. The idea of Bruce dying from what was basically a broken heart was inconceivable to him. But his son body, despite feeling warm to the touch, is unnaturally still beneath his hands, having taken over CPR on Bruce so Dick could have a break, the ambulance 15 minutes out at best.
How could Clark live with himself after? How does Lois feel, realizing that the soulbond stuff was really really real, that her once friend is dead. And Clark, despite knowing this could happen (but didn't really, it was Bruce. Bruce was always the exception, always the outlier, and all the information they had said it only happened in about half the cases and Bruce couldn't- Bruce Can't be...) never believed, never thought this could happen.
How the guilt must kill every day. And imagine the league and family finding out. Dick, Jason and Alfred would never forgive Clark and Lois. Despite originally being on Lois' side. And Lois, I mean, would she stay or leave in that situation? She has to stay or Bruce died for nothing but she can't stay since Clark will never forgive her for her or himself for Bruce's death (even thought it's not her fault), nor will any one in the caped community see her or Clark the same.
So much angst and whump ♡♡♡

I feel like Bruce already takes the blame for so much in the league. He purposefully keeps a lot of it on him because in his eyes Diana and Clark are probably much more important to team cohesion. If something goes wrong on a plan the three of them hammered out? He probably steps up to the plate with some "all me" bullshit.
If the cheating ever comes out? He'd probably be willing to use any anger they already feel at him and his persona to twist everything back in on himself.
If it's ruining the league, if his presence is bad for team cohesion? He might even step down rather than remain. Lock himself down on Gotham, its two fold to ensure the leagues attention remains focused on him and remove himself as a temptation and problem in Clark's life.
Agreed, that feels in character for him. And of course, despite being well-intentioned, it would probably make everything worse.

I think Alfred would kind of be in the "shit happens" camp -- not in a way where he isn't judging Bruce, of course, but in a way where he recognizes the impossibility of the situation, how it's making Bruce miserable, and how judging him for it won't really help. Because Bruce is already beating himself up -- why would a lecture from Alfred about infidelity make things better?
The fact that Bruce wants to take all of the responsibility for Clark's failed marriage says a lot about him, though he doesn't realize it. Alfred does.

In song of solomon, did batman and superman already know each other before the identity reveal?
Also, I'm not very into cheating storylines, but I do find it compelling when it comes to superbat, especially when it comes to emotional infidelity. Mostly because it seems like that's what they already have going on in the comics - most of superbat's gayest moments happen while clark is already with lois. We know he does love lois, but we also see how his relationship with bruce crosses multiple boundaries and goes a beyond just friendship. Obviously, everything could be solved with polyamory, but watching clark struggle and fumble two bad bitches makes the part of me that likes angst feel nice <3
They did, in my mind, but Clark didn't know who Bruce was under the mask. Bruce knew Clark's identity, I think.
Emotional infidelity is such an interesting dynamic to add to superbat, because yeah. A lot of what Bruce and Clark do would count, and Lois would be in the right to challenge that closeness that's presented to the world without explanation.
Everything can always be solved by polyamory <3 but in this fic I think I want to make everyone suffer. And maintain Lois as a good and sympathetic figure, and not just the obstacle to endgame superbat, if that makes sense?

hi res, I just finished reading dead man's party, I have to say I'm in love with it! I love Martha, I love jason and everything about it! one of my fave bits was when jason told bruce that he could see his grandmother, he's immediately like 'my mother?' like !!!!! idk something about not being in discussion that Martha IS his grandmother... man I loved it! anyways, I have a question, is there any possibility in the future for us to know Martha's thoughts on clark? would clark be considered a nice jewish boy for bruce bu martha? 😭❤ thanks for sharing your writing with us and also I feel like I've learned a lot of interesting stuff about Judaism, so thanks for that as well
Thank you so much! Yeah, that's definitely something I wanted to emphasize with this fic -- that no matter how alienated from his family Jason feels, how uncertain he feels as Red Hood in Batman's city, Bruce is still his dad and that's still his family. Nothing will change that. He's still invited to Shabbat! Even if he was straight up evil, he'd still be invited to Shabbat.
I think Clark would be considered a very nice polite young man, and Martha would say it's a shame he's not Jewish. She would say this about most of Bruce's potential romantic interests though. If she ever found out Hal was Jewish I'm sure she wouldn't shut up about trying to get them together (I like to think this matters so much to her even though the possibility of having biological kids between two men is...virtually impossible, so being Jewish isn't a requirement per se, but it still is for her!)
Finding Jason a nice Jewish girl is the top priority I think. Bruce already gave her grandkids. Martha has a new mission. And that's to get Jason as reconnected with her side of the family as possible, despite only being Jewish by patrilineal adoption.

in general? very sad. as a result of Clark's angst over cheating on Lois? I already kind of half-addressed this in my injustice fic, which I'm realizing I'm kind of reworking as the plot to this new fic, song of solomon. if it killed Bruce to stay away from Clark, there isn't a world where Clark would let that happen. Even if it meant losing Lois as a wife/partner. But actions (and inaction) have consequences.

No. the question is, if clark slept with bruce before letting lois find out about the soul mate bond, would he tell lois? would bruce try to convince him to NOT tell lois? would bruce, knowing how much its tearing clark apart, try to have clark keep their affair on the DL?
Good questions. I don’t think Bruce would try to convince him not to tell Lois. If they were married, I think he would EXPECT Clark to want to tell Lois. The question might be instead, what would Clark want? I think Bruce would defer to him when push came to shove, unless his choice threatened them somehow.
But I think Bruce would spare Lois as much detail and hurt as possible. He’s still a gentleman, underneath everything. He wouldn’t lie to her if he was asked. But he would keep it from her if Clark asked, I think?
