She stifles a chuckle at her friend’s adorable antics, shaking her head fondly as she glanced around the place. It was a little bit more packed now than earlier that afternoon. “Hmmm, I knew Seoul had a strong gaming base but I didn’t think it would be this mad.” Replying back casually as she allows her dainty friend to tag her along, “Oh yea– I’ve tried NBA game before but I kinda wanna know what the hype is all about with this.” She nods as they wait in line, “Did you wanna try anything else after that though?”

Really at this point, there was no stopping the laugh that erupted from her lips, “Oh god– you’re right.” Pulling Seoyeon closer to her and measuring their height difference, “maybe if we go to a theme park you’ll get in for free.” Teasingly nudging her friend, she was one of the youngest if not the youngest in their group of friends, it’s so easy and fun to rile them up, “Don’t worry, we can always say you’re with your older sister, eh?”

seoyeon grins at olivia’s response and then shrugs, “we can always just walk over to the next play area and see what game it has once we finish with fifa.” seoyeon enjoyed watching soccer, and even playing it, but she definitely wasn’t an expert. she had no idea what it would be like, but she was excited to try.

she scowls at the younger, playfully pushing her away, “yah, hyejoo, you better watch out -- i’m small but i’m at the perfect level for kneecaps.” there’s a grin on her face as she says it, looping her arm with olivia’s, “although getting into a theme park for free doesn’t sound like a bad plan...” she shakes her head, “no. i have more pride than that... i think.” she smirks.

she pulls olivia to the play area and sits down at a computer. “ah, i’m actually feeling nervous. i forget sometimes that you actually play video games a lot and stream them.” she starts to set up for the game, “how’s that been by the way? you guys were streaming here, right?” she asks, fiddling around in the character customization. “i’ve always wanted to try that. i don’t think i could do it full time but... streaming sounds like a lot of fun. being able to just play video games and then have people’s feedback instantly. i feel like the best part of video games is when you get to experience it with others.”

at her next comment, jiwon feigns offence – “ wow, i take those brownie points back. ” she whines, pouting over at the younger. “ why’d i come with you ? olivia or yuqi would’ve been nicer dongsaengs. ” she complains, shaking her head. “ although we both know you will beat me, i have two left feet and displayed that on national television. ” she points out with a shrug – “ but still, it’s rude to say. ” she pauses as seoyeon explains just dance before smiling – “ i’m not that old, seoyeonnie, i know how to play just dance. ” she chuckles.

humming, jiwon shrugs as they take their places – “ sure, why not ? that way maybe i’ll get a chance after the first practice round. ” she says, tapping her temple before chuckling. “ ooh, what do we wanna do ? i’ll let you choose since you’re the dongsaeng. ” she says with a smile, motioning for the younger to choose.

there’s a smile stuck on seoyeon’s face, she’s relishing in the fact that she can pick on jiwon lightly and not suffer serious consequences from it. sarcasm and poking fun at people were seoyeon’s forms of affection, and she was glad that all of dvs had picked up on that.

just as soon as she’s granted brownie points, they’re taken away and seoyeon can’t help the small laugh that escapes her. “oh, you know i love you jiwon-unnie.” she grins. 

she shrugs, “and i mean, just dance has been out for a while but... i have to make sure your memory’s still in tact.” she pokes her tongue out playfully before turning her attention to the screen, being offered the chance to have first pick. she hums, filing through the selection before finally settling on havana by camila cabello, “we can start off things a little sultry.”

the music starts and seoyeon can feel her competitive drive kick in, trying her best to hit each move. surprisingly, it’s still difficult to do. despite being a dancer, it’s a lot different doing it for a video game. knowing how to dance really isn’t an important factor, but seoyeon’s perfectionist viewpoint gets in the way of that. she hits the moves, but misses more than she expects.

by the end of the song seoyeon sighs, “maybe this is gonna be a little harder than expected.” she laughs. there are a couple people hovering around to watch them and seoyeon feels shy suddenly, “ah i forgot that we’re in public.”

seoyeon’s pace is quick as she walks, head turning as she tries to locate the spot where she was to meet jiwon. she was excited to spend this time with jiwon alone. they hung out often with the rest of dvs, but it was nice to spend some one-on-one with her friend. 

she finally sees the area to play just dance, and a smile graced her lips when she sees the blonde. she quickly walks up behind her, gently hooking their arms together. “oh lovely jiwon, it’s always so nice to see your beautiful face.” she pulls her towards an open station. “too bad i’ll have to see a frown when i whoop your butt.” 

her grin is cocky, eyebrow slightly raised in a challenge. “ah, have you played just dance before?” she grabs the controllers and hands one to jiwon. “there’s gonna be dance movements on the screen and you’re just gonna try to mimic them as close as possible. to be honest the best way to earn points is just to make sure your arms are matched as close as possible, but it’s always more fun to try and do the full body motions with it.” she says with a laugh.

she moves to stand in her spot and smiles, “best two out of three?”

clumsy.

as seoyeon waits for her metro to arrive, she takes a bite of her sandwich and hums, happy to finally have something in her belly after a long day at school. for such a small girl, it really took a lot of food to keep her energy levels up.

there's a light screech as the subway comes to a halt. she waits a few moments for people to get off before walking into the cart herself. it's pretty packed being the end of the day, and she finds herself stood in front of a girl her age. she takes another small bite of her food, relishing in how delicious it was. she vowed to make another trip to that sandwich shop tomorrow after school.

she goes to take another bite as a man who's boarding runs right into her. to her horror, the sandwich falls out of her hands and into the girl's lap in front of her. her face immediately flushes red, and she turns around angrily at the man who hit her, "you didn't have to be so rough." she says, but is completely ignored.

her attention is immediately back on the girl in front of her and she bows quickly, "oh i'm so sorry." she says, "i should have had a better grip on it."

seoyeon felt so excited when she had found out about game x. made it even better to have most of her friends going to it as well. she'd put gaming on the back burner lately, wanting to focus on music when she wasn't doing schoolwork. but now she had a chance to let loose and just have fun. making music and rapping were her biggest passions, but sometimes it was nice to do something just because she enjoyed it, and not hold herself to such a high standard.

she walks in with liv and makes a dramatic noise, "wow~ it's all so busy in here already." she notices, looking at all the people standing in line to sign up for the competition. she grabs hyejoo's hand and pulls her to the line forming, "i wanna sign up." she beams, "you said you wanted to try fifa right? i don't think i've ever played a sports game before so i think it'll be fun."

she looks up at hyejoo, noticing just how much taller the younger girl was. she huffs, "ya... i can't stand next to you. i look like your little sister." she pouts. being 5'1, seoyeon looked like everyone's little sister, but that was beside the point -- in her head at least.

seoyeon had only been writing songs for a little over a month now. she had been playing with beats for longer than that, but actually putting lyrics over a beat was a whole other thing. she'd had an idea for a song for a while, and even wrote a few lyrics for it, but she felt like it was missing something. she doesn't remember how she decided to text haechan about it, but she liked his voice and thought it would be nice to write a song with him. whether they fell in love with the song or not, she was at least super excited that they would be able to gain the experience from it.

she digs into the bag of sour gummy worms that sits in her lap, popping one into her mouth before offering some to haech. "have you ever written a song with someone else before?" she grabs a couple notebooks and hands one to haech so they can write. "i've only been writing seriously for a couple of months. so if anything sounds a little corny... feel free to point it out. i write poetry all the time though so hopefully it helps it sound better." she laughs.

she writes a few words that come into mind already, "i kind of want it to be a love song. i don't think it'll be like us singing it to each other, but i was thinking of maybe just writing about a single relationship. like they're on the outside looking in on a relationship that was once great, but has turned lackluster." she says.

rekindled.

it'd been... a long time since seoyeon had danced in a studio. three years and 1 month to be exact. she’s definitely not as flexible as she once was, constantly hunched over her computer nearly all day because of school and messing around with music. but for the longest time, she’d convinced herself she wouldn’t ever dance again. 

seoyeon lost everything in the summer of 2016, dancing included. a pit would form in her stomach any time she thought about dancing anywhere but her mom’s studio, a bundle of nerves that would sit there for hours. her dad always encouraged her to try dancing again, “you know she would want you to do what you loved,” but she still couldn’t bring herself to try. 

that was, until meeting soyeon. 

seoyeon had been friends with soyeon for a while now, meeting her through a mutual friend a few months ago. the two had grown close quickly, especially after dvs was formed. she loved supporting her friend’s interests and that included soyeon’s dance videos. it was inspiring watching just how passionate her friend was when she danced. she doesn’t remember when it happened, but she remembered feeling the want to dance for the first time in three years. that’s when seoyeon decided to ask her friend if she wanted to dance together. or, in reality, build seoyeon’s dancing up again.

so here she was at the studio that she always saw in the background of soyeon’s videos. the pit was there... but it was lighter than before, surprisingly. 

she’s just finished stretching when she huffs, already out of breath. “oh god..” she groaned, “this is gonna be a nightmare.” she eases herself into a split, hovering over the floor a couple inches. “i’ve lost all of my flexibility.” she turns to the other girl and whines dramatically, “soyeon, i’m gonna die.”

*dvs ( or deadly viper squad ) is a rapping unit formed in 2019 with 5 current and active members. no official release has been made as of yet, though a group release is expected to be made by the end of the year. ––––––

introducing: the studio !  ━━━━

for the longest time, seoyeon’s setup consisted of her computer, a mic, a couple speakers, and a couple pieces of sound equipment all squished on a tiny desk in the corner of her room.

as she became more serious about making music, she decided it was time to upgrade her space and make it a little more functional. there was a spare room in her house, originally intended as a guest room, but since moving to seoul two years ago, her and her father had yet to have any guest spend the night in the room. so after a long discussion with her dad, she finally convinced him to let her use it as a studio. 

after months of saving up the money for it from her part-time job, and with the help of her friends, she was finally able to start making the room into the studio she wanted. she painted the walls a dark gray (basically black) and laid down a bunch of rugs to cover the floor and absorb any echo from the hardwood.

on one side of the room she has a desk with all her sound equipment and computer, decorated with fairy lights. she has multiple posters on this side of the room, all belonging to different artists she likes, as well as a pride flag. there’s a section of the wall to the right of her desk that is covered in black sound absorbing foam; this is where a mic stands for recording, as well as her keyboard. 

on the opposite side, seoyeon shoved a small black couch into the corner of the room, as well as a couple bean bag chairs. she wanted to include a space where she could hang out with her friends, especially the other members of the rap crew she belongs to. she has a bookshelf on this side of the wall that contains different sound engineering books, as well as her favorite music albums, mangas, and other trinkets on display. the wall art on this side is a little more geeky, all posters from her favorite comics, movies, and video games. there’s a little teddy bear (a gift from one of her friends back in tokyo) that sits on the couch. a small cat tree stands next to the seating area, where seoyeon’s cat, prince, likes to spend his time—aside from when he decides to walk all over her keyboard and demand attention.

it’s not the best setup by far, but it gets the job done and seoyeon takes pride in knowing it’s something she created on her own.

seoyeon’s first love. the love that made her feel like the luckiest girl in the world. 17 years old seems like a pretty young age to find the one but seoyeon was sure you two were gonna be together forever. alas, life has a funny way of working differently than you expect. at least you two are still friends.

her mother was a ballerina and traveled around the world a lot. seoyeon and her father travelled with her. because of this, seoyeon learns many different languages. she’s fluent in japanese and korean, and is pretty good at english.

her mother passed away when she was sixteen and seoyeon’s father moved them back to seoul.

enrolled in university for linguistics just because she’s good at it. she knows her father wants her to pursue higher education, but that’s really the only reason she decided to go into uni. 

became involved in the underground khh scene at age 17. fell in love with rapping.
