It's so funny how having been raised deeply religious but no longer being Christian will linger later on. Like I just tagged a post with my constellation/stars tag from back when we all had artsy tags for everything "come close listen to the story" is about an obscure song about Jesus. Or like I was talking to a Muslim classmate of mine about what she does for her prayers when she has evening classes and I was secretly brimming with envy about the whole concept of Islamic daily prayers. The whole ritual of it, having to do it five times a day, having to face the correct direction, the rakat, that would make me so satisfied having to do that every day. I would revel in that so hard. I would really enjoy that. It's making my brain light up just thinking about.
#actually this might have started as a post about the after effects of me being christian but it ended in my weird#i like to call it my ''i have a heart for god but god doesn't have a heart for me''#meaning like i desperately want a religion to center my life around but i've been so hurt by christianity that going to church#makes me actively suicidal#so like the salah is so appealing to me because that's the absolute height of basing your life around your religion#which is so appealing#also i LOVE little rituals the idea of having to do a certain specific intricate task at the same time every day#it would feel so nice#make my brain go brrrrrrrrrrr#but i also understand that i shouldn't convert to islam just because i like the praying#just like i know i shouldn't return to church#but my heart yearns for god i don't know what to tell you!#i don't WANT to want religion so badly i don't WANT to yearn for it so desperately#like i get it's really bad for me#but i can't help it#i yearn for the divine#and you know what?#it's a fucking shame that christianity is such a harmful religion that has harmed so many people including myself#that i CAN'T throw myself into religion#this desire for religion is so deeply rooted in me that it can't be ignored no matter how i try#and i should be ABLE to revel in that part of myself#but because christianity is so harmful because it's members are so horrific#i can't#that's really sad#and still i'm typing this out and my brain's like#just do it#just start being religious again it'll feel so nice you'll feel so happy#but i won't! it's a trap! the religion is too dangerous!#oscar talks to himself#religion mention

Imbolc Altar Ideas & Correspondences
Tumblr media
Imbolc, also known as Candlemas or Brigid's Day, marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It's a time to celebrate the returning light and the awakening of the Earth.
Altar Decorations:
Candles: Imbolc is strongly associated with the element of fire. Decorate your altar with candles in shades of white, yellow, and light blue to represent the increasing daylight.
Brigid's Cross: Craft or purchase a Brigid's Cross, a traditional symbol associated with the Celtic goddess Brigid. Hang it on your altar as a protective charm.
Seasonal Flowers: Place early spring flowers like snowdrops, crocuses, and daffodils on your altar. These symbolize the first signs of life returning to the land.
Herbs: Incorporate herbs such as rosemary, thyme, and cinnamon for their purifying and invigorating properties. Bundle them together with a red or white ribbon.
Seeds: Represent the potential for growth by adding a dish of seeds to your altar. Consider seeds associated with early spring crops like wheat or herbs.
Imbolc Symbols: Include symbols like lambs, ewes, and the sun to capture the essence of this seasonal transition.
Candle Holders: Choose unique candle holders or lanterns to enhance the ambiance. Consider using candle holders in the shape of suns, stars, or nature-inspired designs.
Divination Tools: Add divination tools like tarot cards or runes to your altar for seeking guidance during this transitional period.
Symbolic Stones: Integrate crystals such as citrine for abundance, aquamarine for clarity, and moonstone for intuition. Arrange them aesthetically around your altar.
Feathers: Symbolizing air and spirituality, feathers can be incorporated to invoke the energy of the season. Choose feathers from birds associated with the goddess Brigid, like swans or owls.
Artwork: Display artwork or illustrations that resonate with the themes of Imbolc. This could include depictions of Brigid, snow-covered landscapes, or symbols of growth and renewal.
Imbolc Incense: Craft or purchase incense blends with scents like frankincense, myrrh, and chamomile to fill your sacred space with a soothing and purifying aroma.
Correspondences
Goddess Brigid: Imbolc is sacred to Brigid, the Celtic goddess of hearth, home, and inspiration. Invoke her energy for healing, creativity, and protection.
Colors: White, yellow, light green, and light blue are associated with Imbolc. Use these colors in candles, altar cloths, and decorations to align with the festival's energy.
Stones: Crystals such as amethyst, garnet, and clear quartz resonate with Imbolc's energies.
Foods: Dairy products, especially cheese, and foods made with seeds like bread or muffins are fitting for Imbolc. Set offerings on your altar or incorporate them into your celebration feast.
Water: Imbolc is also associated with the element of water. Include a small bowl of water on your altar to symbolize purification.
Creativity Symbols: Imbolc is a time for inspiration and creative endeavors. Include symbols of your creative pursuits, such as a paintbrush, musical instrument, or writing quill.
Anointing Oils: Create or purchase anointing oils infused with herbs like lavender, rosemary, and frankincense. Use them to anoint candles, tools, or yourself during Imbolc rituals.
Animal Representations: Incorporate figurines or images of animals associated with Brigid, such as lambs, cows, or swans, to honor her connection to the animal kingdom.
Wheat or Corn Dolls: Craft small dolls from wheat or corn husks, symbolizing the harvest to come. Place them on your altar as a representation of the Earth's fertility.
Bell or Chimes: Hang a bell or wind chimes near your altar to symbolize the awakening of nature and the stirring of life. Ring it during your Imbolc rituals to mark significant moments.
Decorative Cloth: Choose an altar cloth with intricate patterns or symbols related to Imbolc, such as suns, wheels, or Brigid's crosses, to add a touch of magic to your sacred space.
May you find warmth in the returning light. <3

pretty when you cry, clarisse la rue
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: based on this post by @kitten-reader
warnings: aphrodite’s kids are pricks lol, erm it’s really bad…
wc: 2.8k
your hair was something that you prided yourself on.
it was no doubt that you were beautiful beyond comparison to your fellow demigods, what with being the daughter of aphrodite. people couldn’t even compare you to your godly siblings.
you believed that your hair was the reason that your beauty was so great, so you natural worked hard on it.
in the world of olympians, you found solace and pride in the strands of hair that cascaded down your shoulders like a cascade of silk. your hair, a manifestation of your divine heritage, was more than just a physical attribute— it was a symbol of your identity and a testament to the grace and allure that came with being the offspring of the goddess of love.
from the moment you discovered your parentage, you embraced the inherent charm that ran through your veins, and it manifested prominently in your hair. unlike the messy, unpredictable tresses of some demigods, yours seemed to have a life of its own, obeying your whims and desires with a luxurious sheen that captivated those around you.
the secret, as you often shared with your fellow campers at camp half-blood, lay in the meticulous care you bestowed upon your locks. your morning routine became a sacred ritual— a blend of enchanted hair care products and divine techniques passed down through generations of aphrodite's children. a symphony of sweet-scented potions and ethereal brushes transformed the routine into a dance of beauty, each stroke accentuating the natural glamour that radiated from your hair.
you revelled in the attention your hair garnered, the way it shimmered under the sunlight as if kissed by the gods themselves. it became a beacon of confidence, a tangible manifestation of your divine heritage that set you apart from the sea of demigods at the camp. the other campers often marvelled at your ability to maintain such perfection, unaware of the divine secrets woven into every strand.
however, your relationship with your hair wasn't purely superficial. it served as a connection to your mother, a link to the goddess whose legacy you carried. the act of caring for it became a ritual that grounded you, a reminder of the divine blood that coursed through your veins and the responsibilities that came with it.
not unbeknownst to you, the envy and resentment simmered beneath the surface of the camp. the adoration and attention that accompanied your divine beauty fuelled the flames of jealousy among your fellow aphrodite siblings. little did you realise, being the favourite child of the goddess of love came at a cost, and that cost was the disdain of your own kin.
as you moved through the camp with the grace of a deity, your radiant hair attracting attention like a beacon, you, though aware of the hostile whispers that followed in your wake, chose to ignore. the other children of aphrodite, who were accustomed to being the centre of attention, couldn't fathom the idea of sharing the spotlight with someone they perceived as the golden child.
the jealousy manifested in subtle acts of exclusion and passive-aggressive remarks. your attempts to connect with your half-siblings often met with cold shoulders and thinly veiled animosity. the communal vanity table, where aphrodite's children traditionally gathered, became a battlefield of unspoken rivalry as they vied for the elusive title of the most captivating demigod.
yet, you, in your innocence, continued to extend kindness and friendship to those around you, oblivious to the resentment building in the hearts of your fellow campers. the intricate braids and enchanting hairstyles you generously offered to create for others only fuelled their frustration, as they struggled to reconcile the warmth of your gestures with the envy burning within them.
within the intricate dynamics of camp half-blood, one particular relationship defied expectations and unfolded with a complexity that left others bewildered. clarisse la rue, known for her brusque demeanour and a reputation that preceded her, stood as an unexpected confidante in your life. despite her gruff exterior and the scathing remarks she directed towards most campers, clarisse treated you with an unusual gentleness, and a unique bond formed between you two.
it all began during a chance encounter near the armoury, where clarisse, with her characteristic scowl, found herself inexplicably drawn to you. to the surprise of everyone witnessing the scene, her rough hands delicately traced the contours of your locks, as if handling a precious artefact. the camp's collective gasp echoed through the air, and it was then that an unspoken connection began to weave itself between you and the formidable daughter of ares.
clarisse, who seldom allowed others into her personal space, not only tolerated but seemed to relish the moments spent running her fingers through your hair. your shared interactions defied the logic of the camp's social hierarchy, leaving fellow demigods perplexed and intrigued by the peculiar alliance that had blossomed between you two.
as your friendship with clarisse deepened, it became apparent that her seemingly abrasive exterior masked a vulnerability that few had the privilege to witness. she confided in you about the weight of expectations placed upon her shoulders as the daughter of ares, the god of war. your hair, with its calming allure, became an unexpected refuge for her, a sanctuary where she could momentarily escape the demands of her tumultuous life.
in the quiet moments shared between you and clarisse, amidst the backdrop of a camp constantly on guard against mythical threats, an unexpected emotion began to stir— love. the kind of love that transcended the lines drawn by parentage and reputations. it was a love born out of understanding, acceptance, and the shared vulnerability that only the tumultuous world of demigods could evoke.
the camp, initially taken aback by the unlikely friendship, eventually came to accept the profound connection that had blossomed between you and clarisse. the daughter of ares, who once stood as an enigma wrapped in hostility, softened in the presence of your divine beauty and the solace found within the cascade of your hair.
as your feelings for each other deepened, the two of you navigated the complexities of love in a world fraught with danger. clarisse's protective instincts, honed on the battlefield, as well as in camp. together, you became an unlikely force, a symbol of love's ability to bridge even the most unexpected divides.
there was a time when a group of your own siblings, fuelled by jealousy and resentment, conspired to disrupt the tranquil rhythm of your bonds with your mother and girlfriend. one day, your prized possession, a hairbrush gifted by your mother, disappeared from its usual place. panic set in as you scoured the cabin, realising that this wasn't just a casual prank— someone had deliberately taken something sacred to you.
as whispers of the stolen hairbrush circulated through the cabin, the undercurrents of jealousy among your siblings bubbled to the surface. the mischievous culprits revelled in their act of sabotage, convinced that stripping you of this cherished item would somehow diminish the radiance that surrounded you.
it didn't take long for clarisse to sense your distress. the unspoken bond between you two had woven itself into a tapestry of mutual understanding, and she recognised the significance of the pilfered hairbrush. determined to right the wrong, clarisse took it upon herself to investigate the matter.
she confronted your siblings with an intensity that left them quaking in their sandals. her stern gaze bore into their guilt-ridden souls, extracting the truth like a seasoned interrogator. clarisse's usually thunderous voice carried a solemn edge as she demanded the return of the stolen hairbrush and an apology befitting the gravity of their actions.
unbeknownst to the misguided thieves, clarisse's reputation for ferocity on the battlefield extended to her protective instincts off it. the very fear she instilled in her enemies on the front lines was now directed at those who dared to threaten the tranquility of your connection.
under the weight of clarisse's unwavering determination, the guilty siblings caved. they returned the stolen hairbrush with bowed heads, offering apologies that bordered on genuine remorse. clarisse, satisfied with the swift resolution, ensured that justice prevailed, safeguarding the sanctity of the connection between you and the divine gift bestowed upon you by aphrodite.
as the stolen hairbrush was returned to its rightful place, the bond between you and clarisse strengthened. the trials you faced together only deepened the roots of your connection, intertwining your destinies in a tale of love, loyalty, and the unyielding power of shared vulnerability. in the heart of camp half-blood, where demigods navigated the tumultuous waters of existence, your story became a testament to the resilience of love against the currents of jealousy and deceit.
-
the sun dipped low on the horizon, casting a fiery glow over camp half-blood, as clarisse la rue realised she hadn't seen you all day. a sense of unease settled in her chest, an unfamiliar concern that compelled her to seek you out. with each passing moment, her worry deepened, driven by a gut feeling that something was amiss.
clarisse traversed the familiar paths of the camp, her eyes scanning the bustling activity for a glimpse of your familiar figure. the ares cabin loomed in the distance, and a knot tightened in her stomach as she approached, not spotting you among the demigods sparring and training.
finally reaching the ares cabin, clarisse's unease morphed into genuine concern. where were you? why hadn't she seen you all day? the questions echoed in her mind, and she briskly entered the cabin, determined to uncover the mystery behind your absence.
there, in the dimly lit interior, she found you sitting on the edge of her bunk, your figure shrouded by a hood and a hat pulled low over your tearful eyes. the sight sent a ripple of worry through clarisse, and she rushed to your side, her gruff demeanour momentarily replaced by a genuine sense of care.
"hey, what happened?" clarisse asked, her voice softer than usual as she placed a reassuring hand on your shoulder. your tear-streaked face turned towards her, and the anguish in your eyes tugged at her heart.
"they took it away," you whispered, your voice choked with emotion. you repeated the words, a mantra of despair, and clarisse struggled to comprehend the source of your pain. "they took it away."
clarisse's brow furrowed, her eyes searching yours for an explanation. "took what away? what happened?"
with trembling hands, you reached up and pulled off the hood, revealing a mess of uneven strands that once cascaded in silky splendour. clarisse's eyes widened in realisation, her hand instinctively reaching to touch the shortened locks. the betrayal etched on your face told the story before you uttered a single word.
"they cut it," you sobbed, burying your face in clarisse's shoulder. "they cut it, clarisse. look at it, it's gone. all gone."
comprehension dawned on clarisse as she gently ran her fingers through the uneven strands. anger surged within her, a protective instinct for the one she cared about more than she ever thought possible. "who did this?" she growled, her gaze ablaze with fury.
you shook your head, unable to articulate the betrayal and cruelty that led to this moment. clarisse, however, needed no words. she wrapped her arms around you, pulling you into a comforting embrace as she vowed to make those responsible pay for the pain they inflicted.
in the sanctuary of the ares cabin, amid the echoes of your tearful revelation, clarisse became a pillar of strength, ready to stand by your side and face whatever challenges lay ahead. love, in its purest and most protective form, ignited within her, as the daughter of ares transformed into a fierce guardian of the broken and betrayed.
the night hung heavy with an air of tension as you cried yourself to sleep in clarisse's bed, the echoes of betrayal haunting your dreams. clarisse, ever the guardian, sat silently beside you, watching over your restless slumber. the flickering candlelight cast shadows on the determination etched into her face, fuelled by a fierce protectiveness that refused to be extinguished.
as your sobs eventually subsided into the quiet rhythm of sleep, clarisse rose from the bedside with a silent determination. in the dim light of the cabin, she retrieved her spear, its blade glinting with a subtle menace. the daughter of ares, had one mission— avenge you.
the night enveloped camp half-blood in a cloak of darkness as clarisse stealthily made her way towards the aphrodite cabin. the aura of the daughter of ares carried an intensity that reverberated through the quiet paths, heralding a confrontation fuelled by the depth of her feelings for you.
standing outside the cabin, clarisse's eyes narrowed with determination as she observed the shadows within. the miscreants who had dared to harm you needed to be taught a lesson—one they would not soon forget. gripping her spear tightly, clarisse pushed open the door, her gaze unwavering as she confronted your godly siblings.
the scene within was one of startled surprise as clarisse stormed into the cabin. her voice, usually thunderous on the battlefield, now carried a chilling calmness. "you touch her again, and i promise you, the consequences will be far worse than you can imagine."
the air in the cabin grew heavy with tension as the children of aphrodite, once filled with false bravado, now faced the unyielding force of clarisse's wrath. she recounted the pain you had endured, the tears that stained your face, and the betrayal that cut deeper than any blade.
in her hand, the spear gleamed ominously, a silent warning that spoke volumes. the children of aphrodite, their faces pale with fear, found themselves cornered by the very embodiment of wrath standing before them. clarisse's words echoed in the cavernous space, leaving an indelible mark on their consciousness.
with a final warning that carried the weight of a promise, clarisse turned on her heel, leaving the aphrodite cabin in her wake. the night embraced her as she returned to the ares cabin, a sense of satisfaction lingering in the air. the protective fire that burned within her had been unleashed, a fierce determination to shield you from further harm.
the following day, the morning light filtered through the windows of the ares cabin, casting a gentle glow over the space. you awoke with a heaviness in your heart, the memory of the previous day's betrayal lingering like a shadow. as you sat up in bed, clarisse entered the cabin, her eyes immediately locking onto yours. the weight of the night's events still etched on her features, but a newfound determination shone in her gaze.
"hey," clarisse greeted you, her voice softer than usual. she took a seat beside you, her hand gently resting on your shoulder. "we need to talk."
the air felt charged with a mix of vulnerability and strength as clarisse began to speak. "i know yesterday was rough, and i can't change what happened, but i need you to understand something." she took a deep breath, her eyes searching yours. "your beauty isn't defined by your hair. it's not just one thing that makes you pretty. it's everything."
clarisse began listing every part of you, her voice deliberate and unwavering. "your eyes– they hold a strength and depth that's beyond compare. your lips– they carry a warmth that can brighten the darkest days. your ears– they've heard laughter, pain, and everything in between. every part of you contributes to the unique beauty that is you."
you listened, the weight of her words sinking in, but doubt still lingered in your eyes. clarisse, undeterred, continued, "and, above all, it's your personality. your kindness, your strength, your resilience – that's what makes you truly beautiful."
a flicker of disbelief danced across your face, and clarisse recognised the challenge ahead. she persisted, her gaze unwavering. "say it. say you're beautiful because of your eyes, lips, ears, and every part of you."
you hesitated, the echoes of the previous day's betrayal still reverberating in your mind. "i can't- i can’t say that. not after what they did to me."
clarisse tightened her grip on your shoulder, her voice taking on a gentle insistence. "you need to believe it. it's not about them; it's about you. say it with me. you're beautiful because of your eyes, lips, ears, and every part of you."
it felt like a mantra, a repetition that tested the resilience of self-perception. clarisse didn't back down, patiently guiding you through each affirmation until the words became a declaration echoing within the walls of the ares cabin. "i'm beautiful because of my eyes, lips, ears, and every part of me."
as you repeated the words, something shifted within you. the doubt began to yield to the truth that clarisse so fervently believed. her unwavering support became a lifeline, anchoring you to a newfound understanding of your own beauty.
in that shared moment, surrounded by the strength of ares' cabin, you started to embrace the truth that beauty wasn't confined to a single aspect. it was a mosaic, a tapestry woven from the threads of every part that made you uniquely, undeniably yourself. clarisse, with her fierce love and unyielding determination, had become the mirror reflecting the truth you needed to see.

Africa has been very rich even before colonialism
The truth you should know about African
Blacks know your history and divinity
They gave us the Bible and stole our natural resources
Community and Social Cohesion: Traditional African religions often emphasized communal values, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support within the community. Rituals and ceremonies were communal events that strengthened social ties.
Respect for Nature: Many African traditional religions were deeply connected to nature, promoting a harmonious relationship with the environment. This connection often led to sustainable practices and a respect for the natural world.
Ethical Guidelines: These religions often included moral and ethical guidelines that governed interpersonal relationships. Concepts such as honesty, hospitality, and respect for elders were commonly emphasized.
Cultural Identity: Traditional African religions played a crucial role in shaping cultural identity. They provided a framework for understanding the world, explaining origins, and passing down cultural practices through rituals, myths, and oral traditions.
Islam reached Nigeria through a combination of trade, migration, and cultural interactions. The trans-Saharan trade routes were crucial in bringing Islam to the region. Muslim traders from North Africa and the Middle East ventured into West Africa, establishing economic ties and introducing Islam to local communities.
The city-states along the trade routes, such as Kano and Katsina, became significant centers for Islamic influence. Merchants not only engaged in commercial activities but also played a role in spreading Islamic teachings. Over time, rulers and elites in these city-states embraced Islam, contributing to its gradual acceptance.
Additionally, the spread of Islam in Nigeria was facilitated by the activities of Islamic scholars and missionaries. Scholars known as clerics or Mallams played a key role in teaching Islamic principles and converting people to Islam. They often established Quranic schools and engaged in educational activities that promoted the understanding of Islamic teachings.
Military conquests also played a part in the expansion of Islam in Nigeria. Islamic empires, such as the Sokoto Caliphate in the 19th century, emerged through conquest and warfare, bringing Islam to new territories. The Sokoto Caliphate, led by Usman dan Fodio, sought to establish a strict Islamic state based on Sharia law.
Overall, the spread of Islam in Nigeria was a gradual process influenced by trade networks, migration, the activities of scholars, and, at times, military expansion. The interplay of these factors contributed to the integration of Islam into Nigerian society, shaping its cultural and religious landscape.
In the vast tapestry of Africa's rich cultural heritage, herbal traditional healing stands out as a profound and time-honored practice. African herbal traditional healers, often known as traditional or indigenous healers, play a vital role in the healthcare systems of many communities across the continent. Their practices are deeply rooted in the natural world, drawing on centuries-old wisdom and an intimate understanding of local flora.
African herbal traditional healers are custodians of ancient knowledge, passing down their expertise through generations. They serve as primary healthcare providers in many communities, addressing a wide range of physical, mental, and spiritual ailments. The healing process involves a holistic approach, considering the interconnectedness of the individual with their community and environment.
One of the hallmark features of African herbal traditional healers is their profound knowledge of medicinal plants. These healers have an intricate understanding of the properties, uses, and combinations of various herbs. Passed down through oral traditions, this knowledge is often a well-guarded family secret or shared within the apprentice-master relationship.
The methods employed by herbal traditional healers encompass diverse approaches. Herbal remedies, administered as infusions, decoctions, or ointments, form a significant part of their treatment. These remedies are carefully crafted based on the healer's understanding of the patient's symptoms, lifestyle, and spiritual condition. Additionally, rituals, ceremonies, and prayers are often incorporated into the healing process, acknowledging the interconnectedness of physical and spiritual well-being.
African herbal traditional healers frequently integrate spiritual elements into their practice. They believe that illness can be a manifestation of spiritual imbalances or disharmony. Through rituals and consultations with ancestors or spirits, healers seek to restore balance and harmony within the individual and the community.
Herbal traditional healers are integral to the social fabric of their communities. They often serve not only as healers but also as counselors, mediators, and keepers of cultural traditions. Their practices are deeply intertwined with community life, contributing to the resilience and cohesion of African societies.
While herbal traditional healing holds immense value, it faces challenges in the modern era. The encroachment of Western medicine, issues related to regulation and standardization, and the potential exploitation of traditional knowledge pose threats to this practice. However, there is also a growing recognition of the importance of integrating traditional healing into mainstream healthcare systems, leading to collaborative efforts to preserve and promote this valuable heritage.
African herbal traditional healers are bearers of an ancient legacy, embodying a profound connection between humanity and the natural world. Their healing practices, rooted in herbal wisdom and spiritual insights, offer a unique perspective on healthcare that complements modern medical approaches. Preserving and respecting the knowledge of these healers is not only crucial for the well-being of local communities but also for the broader appreciation of the diverse cultural tapestry that defines Africa.

In this new phase of evolution, indigenous communities are playing a vital role by sharing their ancient ways with the world. As they connect with their songs, dances, ceremonies and rituals it is creating a awakening, a remembering inside of us. Reconnecting us with that which may have been lost - which is now being found, an intricate interweaving with the tapestry of nature, a poignant realisation of animism it's self. May we too believe and feel the magic which is creating a spiral dance of divine light around our every thought, word and action.

Because i like pain, can i get basically the sunken tomb/those who walk away (tlovm) but it's reader who dies, not vex? She jumps in front of vex as the blast goes off. Can be either Vax or percy x reader.
Turned out to a percy x reader and hope you like the result. Angsty but with a happy ending. 😘
He can’t move. He can’t breathe. His heart has stopped in his chest. Life has ceased to be linear, or perhaps even moving at all. He is stuck in that one doomed moment. He is trapped within his own body with is own bloody mind. He can’t. He can’t. Percy can’t even think or process. He’s stuck in that single image of you. That damned sarcophagus. It looked fine. Everything was fine. Vex gave it a once over. The three of you pushed the top off and there was the deathwalker’s ward still on the corpse of the previous owner. You’d stepped to the end, with Vex. You’d taken to observing the intricate runes on the inside. Vex warned him not to touch but it was too late. He’d reached in and set off a trap. It would have hit her if you hadn’t pushed her aside and in doing so, knocked yourself off balance and into the full force of whatever damned thing hit you.
Some kind of magic struck out, hit you square in the chest and sent you flying like some rag doll. You hit the ground with a sickening smack and crack. That breath, that single exhale that left your body unmoving, that’s where Percy got stuck, watching as the light in your eyes dimmed, those eyes that kept staring at him. They all ran to you but he was stuck. You weren’t moving. You weren’t responding to their calls nor pleas. There was nothing left of you to respond. Once that dawned on him, once it hit him what he had done, had caused, he was left broken. Somehow his legs carried him to your side, where Vax held you in his arms, Vex clutched your hand unable to speak, Pike rushed to heal you but there’s nothing to heal, nothing to be done. You were gone. You are gone. You’re gone.
Things move quickly after. Percy doesn’t know what grace kept him on his feet when he found it within him to join the others. He could not look away from you. Kash had already started whatever ritual he was performing. A resurrection rite. Everything moved so fast. Questions were asked, what happened how did this happen, who was with you? He was but he couldn’t answer. He couldn’t break away from your cold dead eyes. They’ll forever haunt him. They were so full of life just mere moments before when you cracked a joke and smiled, calling him out on his lack of divine worship. He’d retorted with some clever witty remark. Those were the last words he’d spoken to you. He couldn’t even bloody remember them. He can’t even remember your last words.
But then reason hits. It’s not working. The ritual it’s not working. It has to work. It has to work! The Raven Queen, she resides over death and apparently resurrections do not sit well with her or her domain. The others try to suggest things, solutions, but they are not that. Percy finds it within himself to speak some desperate sense; they’re under a lake, where are they going to go? They’re losing time. This has to work now. They can’t give up! He’s begging them, begging anyone, everyone. This can’t be happening! The spell breaks and you’re not moving. Percy’s ears are ringing. He wants to shout and scream and cry but inside him a void begins to grow and leaves him terrified of himself.
Several breaths pass and then, by some miracle, the light returns to your eyes, you shoot up and you’re gasping for air. You’re awake. He’s riddled with guilt once more. You turn to him and stare at him with those damned eyes and while he sees the life in them now, he’s haunted with that blank stare of your corpse.
“What happened?” How is he supposed to answer that question? He was an idiot and should have listened. This is all his fault. He got reckless and greedy and stupid and it cost you your life!
“I touched the armour and you… you were…” He can’t speak the words. The others speak but he does not hear them. “It was an accident.” Why do you keep looking at him. Your eyes should be filled with hatred and anger but you’re not. You’re relieved. You look at him as if this is not all on him. Accident or not, he is still to blame. Luckily distraction comes quickly. The armour is procured and in Vax’s possession for some reason.
You’re back on your feet and a bit wobbly but insist you want to get out of here as much as the others do. Pike has you at first but whether out of habit or sheer guilt, Percy find himself next to you and you lean on him whenever you stumble slightly. He catches you every time you don’t reach for him. It’s definitely a force of habit because each touch is torture. With each touch that scene keeps replaying. Outside on the banks of the lake Vox Machina decides it’s time to take a rest. Everyone’s exhausted and hurt from the fight to get out. Goodbyes are exchanged Zahra and Kash and upon the sunset Percy wanders off on his own. He had the intention of finding Vax, and apologise for what he caused. He did and got punched in the face. Seems that your best friend gave him a smidge of what he deserves. He deserves so much worse but it’s something. But then you have to find him, alone, ass in the snow, processing the pain in his jaw and contemplating every single mistake in his life that could have spared you this fate.
“Percy?” You come up to him. There’s still a slight tremble in your step despite your self-assured expression. No matter how well you might be at hiding your feelings, you always have a tell. You may pretend this doesn’t affect you but he sees it does. That just makes it worse. Still you find it within yourself to try and make him feel better. He wishes you wouldn’t. It’d be easier if you were angry with him, even better if you too decided to take your pound of flesh. Instead you kneel down next to him and look at what must be the mark of his preview to punishment.
“I fell…” He tries a poor excuse but you don’t buy it. Especially not with the extra set of footprints leading away. You place your palm against his cheek. Your touch is cold, he assumes because of the snow but for some reason he cannot help but imagine the worst. Still he leans into your touch.
“Must have been a strange fall. How does one fall on their ass and face simultaneously?” You joke and normally you’d have earned a chuckle or a retort. ‘With great difficulty’ is what you expected him to say or something along those lines but instead you just get silence and downcast eyes that refuse to meet yours. You settle on your knees and bring your other palm to cup his face and lift his gaze to meet yours. Percy bites the inside of his cheek.
“How can you pretend this doesn’t affect you? How can you take this so lightly?” You pull back and fold your hands together to preserve some warmth. Your skin feels wrong, your body feels wrong. Every breath you take you’re suddenly aware of. The blood pumping through your veins, it’s as if you can feel it and it hurts. Everything hurts and you feel as if you’re going to burst any second as if someone could prick you with a needle and suddenly you’d explode. You feel vulnerable and have become so incredibly aware of your mortality, in anything you do, anything you have done; every choice you’ve ever made. It haunts you past, present and future. You don’t know what to do with yourself. You thought of going out into the trees just so scream but that wouldn’t help. You’d just be left with the pain. You thought of ignoring it but that turned on you quickly. You noticed the silence when Percy was around. When you’re near him you feel alive and not some dead person walking. You feel like you can take on this life without being afraid of what happened and what you might face. You feel as if as long as he’s near you’ll be alright. That’w why you came to find him in the first place, didn’t you. You hoped he’d help you see things as they had been before your accident, but that didn’t seem possible.
“Because if I don’t I’ll just be terrified. I’ll break down until there’s nothing left of me and I don’t think I’ll be able to cope. This is all that’s keeping me together. You’re keeping me together.” Those words are harder to speak out loud than you thought, as if speaking them makes them real and undeniable. You suppose that’s true. You can feel your heartbeat in your throat along with your breathing. It just won’t go away and the more you try to ignore it, the worse it gets.
“You died because of me. You shouldn’t even be able to look at me!” There’s so many things running through your head that want to respond to Percy. You manage to stop some of the more irrational ones, the ones you know you’ll regret the moment you speak them.
“Is that what you think you deserve? My anger? My hatred? You won’t get it. Yes, you caused this but it was an accident. That doesn’t make it right but if you are in such desperate need to repent for a mistake, you can do so! I need you, Percy! I need you right now because without you I fear I will fall apart! So please, I’m begging you; do not abandon me now.” You plead. He’s unmoving. You reach out. He doesn’t flinch or turn away. He doesn’t respond so you halt and repeat once more. “Please, Percy. I’m begging you…” You place your hand on his cheek and this time he leans into your palm, even if hesitantly so. You’re about to pull away, seeing that reluctance but before you can his hand clasps over yours and holds it in place.
“I will not ask for your forgiveness-“ You got to speak but he’s not finished yet. “I will not accept it should you offer it to me because I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgive myself. But you’re right. If this is what you want, I’ll do it. I’d hand you the stars on a silver platter if you asked. I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to make this right.”
“Percy…” You sigh. That’s not what you meant. You don’t mean to ask for his compliance or service. You ask him to be your friend, your confidant, your rock when the tides get too much in the same way he has always been for you. You’re asking him to be himself, nothing more, nothing less but here he is offering you the world.
“I won’t ask you to accept or turn me away. I will be at your whims for however long you wish me to be-“ Percy keeps going. He has to make this right. You give him a chance to prove himself worthy of you and all you’ve given him. You’ve given him the chance to truly earn your forgiveness in your eyes and his. But you interrupt him by literally placing his palm over his mouth to silence him. Once you make eye contact and you give him a silent ‘are you done’ and he nods you let go.
“Then I order you to stop now.” His heart skips a beat. He cannot breathe. “I don’t need a knight in shining armour or some servant at my beck and call. I just need you. I just need you to be here, now. I don’t need the moon on a string, or you begging on your knees. I don’t need you to fetch me some drink or write me my correspondence. I need you to just be you.” That punch hits far harder than anyone could have dealt. It’s the sheer realisation that his life is more valuable than his actions and choices and deeds. His life exceeds a purpose. It’s a terrifying reality but then he looks at you and sees through you, into your own fear and doubt and he sees, that’s what you need. You need someone who understands fear and pain and he does. Gods he knows he does. That’s why you need him to be here and to be him. That’s why you can look him in the eye. You feel like he’s the only one that truly understands right now because he too, albeit a long time ago came to realise how fragile mortality truly is and all the thoughts that accompany that revelation.
“I know.” He whispers nodding to himself. He reaches out. He wraps his arms around you and holds you close. You allow yourself to twist and mould into his side, tuck under his arm and curl against his chest. This feels real. This is real. You can hear his heartbeat and the rise and fall of his chest with every breath; something you had previously not been aware of nor ever focussed truly focussed on unless it was out of the ordinary. You take a deep ragged breath yourself. You feel cold trail down your cheeks from your eyes and only truly process you’re crying when gloved fingers wipe them away. Percy whispers words of comfort; meaningless he might say but these are the words he had wished he heard when he was alone and suffering. You pull yourself closer to him until the tears subside.
There’s still a long way to go. This does not resolve the issue nor Percy’s guilt. This doesn’t make anything right or change anything. It’s the beginning of a road to a better future you carve out together. Wherever it leads, he will be at your side as long as this world allows. He’ll fight tooth to nail to have it be so. He’ll make this right. But most of all, he’ll be there for you.

Just Believe
Mother Miranda x Gender Neutral Reader
AO3: Just Believe
Summary: Mother Miranda's perceptive gaze didn't miss the doubt that lingered like a shadow within the recesses of your mind during one of her sermons.
Word Count: 1.9K
Warnings: Dub-con kissing
The village center bustled with activity, yet a heaviness weighed on your heart. Doubts had been gnawing at your thoughts recently like a persistent itch that couldn’t be scratched. The rituals, the chants, the unwavering devotion of your fellow villagers – they have always been the cornerstones of your existence.
As you stood inside the church, watching the villagers pile in, a nagging question formed in your mind:
Was this truly the path you wanted to follow?
Amid your contemplation, a graceful presence swept into the church, interrupting your thoughts. The soft rustling of fabric announced Mother Miranda’s approach, her tall figure casting a shadow that seemed to stretch across the nave and the pews.
Mother Miranda stood before the grand pulpit in her black robes, the fabric draped around her form, almost as if it had been molded to fit her. A stole of intricately woven silver patterns fell over her shoulders, catching the light in a way that seemed to make it shimmer like liquid moonlight. A large halo rested behind her head, adorned with intricate patterns and a single eye sat atop it, gazing down like an all-knowing sentinel. But it was the golden mask that caught your eye. It resembled a bird's face, its features delicately sculpted with precision and care, a creation that transformed her visage into a work of art. Her presence commanded attention, an embodiment of both authority and charisma.
Everything went silent.
The service began as Mother Miranda preached about the Black God. With a voice that resonated like a mellifluous melody, the words she spoke flowed like a river of wisdom and devotion. She spoke of unity, of purpose, of the divine path that guided their lives.
Her words carried a weight that struck deep within each heart present, invoking a sense of connection to something greater than themselves. The villagers hung on her every word; their faith cemented by Mother Miranda’s conviction.
Though her words were convincing, a flicker of uncertainty remained. As Mother Miranda’s sermon wove its narrative, you couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to the story, more to the Black God than what met the eye. Your doubts continued to linger like a whisper of truth to be heard amidst the fervor of devotion.
While Mother Miranda’s discourse pressed on, your gaze wandered over the faces of the villagers seated around you, finally coming to rest upon her masked visage once more. At that moment, her eyes met yours. It was as if an invisible thread drew your eyes to her and in that instant, the world around you blurred, leaving only her figure in sharp focus. Your heartbeat quickened and then stilled as if time itself had momentarily ceased to flow.
There was an intensity in her gaze, an unwavering focus that sent a shiver down your spine. Those ice-blue eyes of hers locked onto your conflicted expression and it was as if she could see straight through the façade you had constructed.
And then, just as suddenly as it had begun, the moment passed. The world came rushing back, the ambient sounds regained their volume and you found yourself once again amidst the congregation.
As Mother Miranda’s sermon reached its crescendo, you couldn’t shake the feeling that her gaze had been more than just a passing glance. You were left to grapple with the realization that Mother Miranda’s attention had fixated on you, specifically. It was as though her gaze had pierced through the sea of villagers and found you, unveiling a secret you hadn't shared with anyone.
A look that seemed to say she knew.
The villagers around you began to stir, their movements synchronized as they prepared to depart the church, their faces carrying expressions of renewed faith. Just as the last of the villagers started to file out the arched entrance, your peripheral vision caught a glimpse of movement. It was her – Mother Miranda.
“You there. Stay.”
Her words echoed throughout the church, carrying an air of authority that seemed to command even the very air to halt.
Her robes billowed with a quiet elegance as she moved forward, each step deliberate and measured. The sense of isolation was palpable as she approached, the space around you narrowed to encompass only her and you.
She stopped a few paces away, her eyes fixed on yours.
“Mother Miranda,” you croaked out. Your voice betrayed the nervousness that had settled into your bones. Your throat was parched, her name emerging as if pulled from the depths of a desert. “How may I help you?”
A slow, knowing smile appeared on the lips of Mother Miranda as you uttered your question. The curve of her mouth held both a hint of amusement and a glint of something darker. Her eyes, like twin abysses, seemed to pierce through the layers of your uncertainty, exposing the vulnerable core that doubt had etched within you.
"How may you help me?" she echoed, her voice a melodic blend of honeyed persuasion and underlying malice. "My dear child, there is nothing you can do to help me.” She continued, her eyes never leaving yours. “I sensed something in your gaze during the sermon. A flicker of uncertainty perhaps?”
Her words hung in the air; a challenge masked in the form of a question. The weight of your doubts and uncertainties pressed down on you but the fear of Mother Miranda’s potential wrath loomed even larger. The thought of admitting your faltering belief to her seemed like stepping onto a precipice, one that could lead to consequences you could not predict.
“Of course not, Mother Miranda,” your voice emerged, carefully measured, an attempt to steady the unease that churned within you. “The sermon was powerful, as always. Your words have a way of reaffirming our devotion.”
Her expression remained inscrutable, a mask that betrayed nothing of the thoughts that roiled beneath.
“Is that so?” she replied, her tone a delicate balance between skepticism and amusement. “You’re quite bold to lie to me.”
She took a step closer. The walls of the church, once familiar and comforting, now seemed to close in around you, backing you into a corner. Your back pressed against the cool, ancient stones, a sensation that mirrored the chill that had crept into your heart.
And then, she was before you, a towering figure that seemed to eclipse even the shadows that clung to the corners of the church. Her presence was both overwhelming and suffocating, like the weight of a thousand watchful eyes upon you. As Mother Miranda looked down upon you, a predator assessing its prey, the true magnitude of her power became palpable.
You were a pawn on her chessboard, an unwitting player in a game that transcended mortal understanding.
“I apologize, Mother Miranda,” you managed to stutter out, your voice trembling with the weight of admission. “I was afraid of telling you the truth.”
Her response was immediate. The tip of a gold-clawed index finger rested on your lips, a gesture that was both intimate and intrusive. “Be quiet.” Her command was like a spell, woven with an authority that demanded unquestioning obedience.
Your voice had been stilled; your agency was stripped away by her insidious influence.
“Doubt is a natural progression on the path of devotion. It is through questioning that one finds deeper understanding.” Mother Miranda intoned. The candlelight danced upon her features, casting fleeting shadows that seemed to morph her visage into something both ethereal and foreboding. “You see, doubt can be a catalyst for growth, an opportunity to forge an even stronger connection to the Black God. It is in these moments of uncertainty that true loyalty is tested, and true devotion solidified.”
A subtle pause lingered in the air, pregnant with unspoken implications. Her gaze held you captive, the weight of her words settling like a shroud upon your shoulders. “I have been watching you, my child, seen the doubts that have taken root within your heart. But fear not, for I am here to guide you. To help you navigate the labyrinth of your belief and emerge stronger, more resolute.”
Her words, like tendrils of a seductive incantation, seemed to wrap around you, weaving a narrative that blended the allure of answers with the undertones of obedience. “In time, you shall come to understand that your doubts are part of a greater plan, a plan that will lead you closer to me. Closer to the truth that the Black God offers.”
She extended a slender hand, the fingers adorned with intricate golden ridges that gleamed in the flickering light. “Walk with me, my dear, and I will show you.”
As her fingers brushed against the side of your cheek, a shiver coursed throughout your body. The temptation of her words mingled with the chilling realization of her intent — to draw you into her orbit, to keep you within her watchful gaze. And at that moment, you were faced with a choice, one that could either lead you deeper into her enigmatic embrace or push you to break free from her manipulative grasp.
But was it much of a choice?
At that moment, you made the only logical decision available in such circumstances — a decision driven by the primal instinct to safeguard your own existence.
“Yes, Mother Miranda. I will walk with you.” You said, your voice tinged with a mixture of resignation and submission.
“Excellent.” She purred, the word rolling from her lips like a velvety whisper. The glow in her eyes intensified, the radiance within them seeming to burn brighter.
As the air crackled with tension, her fingers slipped behind her mask and with a subtle movement, she removed the ornate golden bird mask that concealed her features and set it aside. The mask's removal revealed a visage both mysterious and striking, framed by an intricate cascade of platinum blonde hair. Her lips, soft and inviting, curved into a smirk. In the soft candlelight, her porcelain skin seemed to glow, emphasizing the ethereal beauty that she possessed.
Her eyes, those pools of captivating blue, bore into yours with an intensity that mirrored the weight of your shared moment. Her right hand moved toward the nape of your neck, her fingers curling in a slow, deliberate motion as they intertwined with your hair. With a harsh tug, she guided your head backward, causing the breath in your throat to expel.
“You will be a good little follower for me, won’t you?” Mother Miranda’s voice, soft as a caress, brushed against your lips like a beguiling promise.
Her mouth, now dangerously close, hovered in the space between you.
In that instant, you made a decision that seemed to reverberate through the very air. A step that might lead you to a revelation or a chasm of secrets that you couldn't yet fathom.
“Yes, Mother Miranda.” You breathed out, your voice laced with nervousness.
With a sense of anticipation hanging in the air, Mother Miranda leaned in, her breath mingling with yours. The world seemed to fade into the background, leaving only the two of you suspended in time and space. Her lips brushed against yours, a delicate touch that sent delightful shivers down your spine.
Every sensation was heightened—the warmth of her skin against yours, the sweetness of her lips, the tender exchange of breath. In that intimate embrace, the doubts and uncertainties seemed to melt away, leaving only the raw authenticity of the moment.
Mother Miranda smiled against your lips, a tender curve that held a hint of triumph as if she had achieved a pivotal victory in this unspoken exchange.

i should probably make this a recurring thing so here are a few mixed-bag fic recs from me!
It's the Beginning of a New Age by fluorescentgrey
A one-shot, Aziraphale bumps into Crowley at an Velvet Underground concert. A beautifully written exploration of him struggling to catch up with the times and all the new ways humans (and fallen angels) experience rapture and divinity.
The Agony and the Ecstasy by @entanglednow
A quick bite of a read, it details Crowley's first experience with being smitten (the angelic kind, not the romantic one). Divinity kink at its best.
The Ritual of Propagation by @aethelflaed
56K of intricate layers of trauma, denial and love. Aziraphale used to be employed as a surrogate to fill Heaven's ranks with new soldiers. Crowley went through some reprehensible "training" for his seduction assignments. Two bitches with unhealed trauma try their hand at marriage, (meta)physical sex and begetting children.
This certainly isn't everyone's cup of tea but if you need some catharsis sweetened with the most LOVING relationship, this is the one. It flies high and it crashes low, but as long as you pay attention to the tags, the author will land you safely ;)

Tips To Consider When Writing A Fantasy Religious Story
Tumblr media
This was requested by @saltykidcreation if you want to request something send me an ask!
A fantasy religious story is a fantasy story where, even if a God-like character does not exist, true biblical values are made obvious in the book's theme because of the author's worldview. I personally don’t write fantasy religious stories, however, since this was requested I decided to come up with some tips for this genre.
Establishing a Rich Mythology
At the heart of every captivating fantasy religious story lies a well-crafted mythology that breathes life into the beliefs, deities, and rituals of your fictional world. Just as our world's religions have intricate backstories, your fantasy realm's mythology provides the framework for understanding the spiritual landscape. Here's how to create a mythology that resonates:
Deities and Powers
Develop a pantheon of gods and goddesses, each with distinct personalities, domains, and motivations. Consider drawing inspiration from real-world mythologies or inventing entirely new divine beings. For instance, in Neil Gaiman's "American Gods," gods from various cultures manifest in modern-day America, reflecting changing beliefs.
Rituals and Traditions
Infuse your world with rituals, ceremonies, and festivals that reflect the beliefs of your fictional religion. Whether it's a solemn pilgrimage to a sacred site or a joyful celebration of a deity's favour, these rituals offer opportunities to reveal cultural norms and values. Take the example of "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss, where the University's Archives hold religious significance, connecting knowledge and faith.
Holy Texts and Prophecies
Craft ancient texts, prophecies, or scriptures that guide your characters' beliefs and actions. These texts can hold hidden truths, enigmatic predictions, or moral codes that shape the course of the story. In Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy, a mysterious device called the Alethiometer becomes a tool of divination, echoing themes of destiny and belief.
Cultural Impact
Consider how your fictional religion influences art, architecture, fashion, and daily life in your world. Are there specific symbols associated with the faith? Does the religion inspire grand cathedrals, tranquil monasteries, or vibrant marketplaces? J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series exemplifies this through the majestic Hogwarts Castle and its hidden rooms dedicated to various founders' beliefs.
A well-developed mythology adds depth and authenticity to your fantasy religious story, enriching readers' immersion and emotional engagement. As your characters interact with these elements, their beliefs will take centre stage, shaping their decisions and driving the narrative forward.
Worldbuilding and Cultural Depth
Creating a compelling fantasy religious story extends beyond the spiritual realm—it involves crafting an immersive world where faith intertwines with culture, society, and daily life. As you build your fantastical universe, keep these worldbuilding aspects in mind to ensure a rich and authentic backdrop for your narrative:
Cultural Diversity:
Just as our world hosts a tapestry of cultures, your fantasy realm should embrace diversity. Explore how different regions or communities within your world interpret and practice the same religion. George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series masterfully showcases distinct religious beliefs held by various societies, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.
Social Impact:
Consider how religion shapes social hierarchies, class systems, and power dynamics. Does the priesthood hold political sway? Are certain religious groups marginalized or revered? In Ursula K. Le Guin's "The Left Hand of Darkness," the planet Gethen's religious beliefs are deeply tied to its unique genderless society.
Iconography and Architecture:
Infuse religious symbolism into architecture, art, and everyday objects. Temples, sculptures, and artefacts can embody beliefs and tell stories within your world. The stained glass windows of Notre Dame Cathedral in Victor Hugo's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" visually depict biblical narratives while reflecting the spiritual essence of the setting.
Language and Terminology:
Develop specialized terminology, prayers, and phrases specific to your fantasy religion. This linguistic distinctiveness adds authenticity and depth to the faith. J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" features languages like Elvish that enrich the cultures and religions of Middle-earth.
Impact on Conflict and Plot:
Explore how religious differences can drive conflict or cooperation within your story. Religious tensions can lead to political strife, wars, or alliances. In Frank Herbert's "Dune," the complex interplay between the Fremen's religious beliefs and the political landscape fuels the narrative's intrigue.
Remember, effective worldbuilding integrates religious aspects seamlessly into every facet of your fictional world. By intertwining faith with culture, you'll create a vivid and immersive environment that enriches your readers' experience and deepens their connection to your story.
Weaving Themes of Faith and Doubt
Central to any fantasy religious story are the themes of faith, doubt, and the profound quest for meaning. These themes can elevate your narrative, sparking introspection and emotional resonance. Here's how to skillfully weave these threads throughout your story:
Character Beliefs
Explore how characters' beliefs shape their worldviews, actions, and interactions. Does a protagonist's unwavering faith lead them on a heroic journey, while a sceptical character questions the mystical elements surrounding them? In C.S. Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia," characters' diverse beliefs guide their roles in the unfolding saga.
Spiritual Journeys
Craft character arcs that mirror spiritual journeys, complete with challenges and revelations. Allow characters to grapple with doubts, undergo transformative experiences, and emerge with a deeper connection to their faith. The character Eowyn in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings" confronts her inner struggles and finds a newfound purpose.
Crisis of Faith
Introduce moments of crisis where characters' faith is tested to its limits. These moments can lead to internal turmoil, moral dilemmas, and choices that define their paths. In Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" the protagonist questions the nature of humanity, blending themes of religion with questions of identity.
Divine Intervention
Explore the concept of divine intervention and its impact on characters' lives. This can be a source of guidance, trials, or even scepticism. In "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, the gods' involvement in human affairs raises questions about their true motivations and the nature of belief.
Existential Quests
Delve into existential themes as characters search for meaning beyond the material world. Incorporate quests that transcend physical boundaries, encouraging characters to uncover truths about existence, mortality, and the afterlife. Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman's "Good Omens" humorously navigates themes of fate, destiny, and the cosmic battle between good and evil.
By exploring the intricate balance between faith and doubt, you'll create characters who resonate with readers on a deeply human level. These themes not only enrich your narrative but also invite readers to ponder their own beliefs and uncertainties
Utilizing Symbolism and Allegory
In the realm of fantasy religious storytelling, symbolism and allegory serve as potent tools to convey layers of meaning and depth. These literary devices can bridge the gap between the fantastical and the profound, enriching your narrative in powerful ways:
Symbolic Artifacts
Introduce artefacts or objects that hold symbolic significance within your world. A mystical amulet, an ancient tome, or a sacred tree could embody themes of faith, wisdom, or protection. Consider the One Ring in J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Lord of the Rings," representing the corrupting influence of power.
Allegorical Journeys
Craft allegorical quests that mirror spiritual journeys or moral dilemmas. Characters might embark on physical journeys that parallel inner transformations, mirroring the trials and growth inherent in belief systems. In John Bunyan's "The Pilgrim's Progress," the protagonist's journey to the Celestial City mirrors the Christian path.
Metaphorical Creatures
Introduce fantastical creatures that symbolize spiritual concepts. A mythical phoenix representing rebirth or a guardian dragon embodying both danger and enlightenment can add layers of meaning to your narrative. In "The Chronicles of Narnia," Aslan the lion is a symbolic representation of Christ.
Cosmic Forces
Use cosmic events or celestial phenomena as metaphors for divine influence or moral alignments. A comet's appearance could herald significant events, while an eclipse might signify moments of transformation or impending conflict. The Dark Tower series by Stephen King weaves cosmic forces into the fabric of its multiverse narrative.
Subtextual Commentary
Employ allegory to comment on real-world issues or philosophical concepts. By grounding your fantastical narrative in allegorical discussions, you invite readers to reflect on broader themes while engaging with your story. George Orwell's "Animal Farm" is an allegory for political corruption and societal manipulation.
By artfully integrating symbolism and allegory, you add depth and resonance to your narrative. These devices not only enhance the fantastical elements of your story but also invite readers to explore the layers of meaning hidden beneath the surface.
Crafting Moral Dilemmas and Choices
A hallmark of captivating storytelling is the inclusion of moral dilemmas that challenge characters' beliefs, forcing them to confront their convictions and make difficult choices. Within the realm of fantasy religious stories, these dilemmas become even more potent, as characters navigate the intersection of faith, ethics, and personal growth:
Clashes of Belief
Introduce conflicts where characters' divergent beliefs clash, sparking debates and raising questions about the nature of truth and morality. Such clashes can lead to both external conflicts and internal struggles. In "The Golden Compass" by Philip Pullman, characters' differing beliefs influence their actions in a world with soul-representing daemons.
Test of Principles
Develop scenarios where characters must make choices that challenge their faith or require them to compromise their values. These choices can lead to soul-searching moments that reveal the depths of their character. Guy Gavriel Kay's "Tigana" explores characters' moral choices amid political and religious conflicts.
Consequences of Devotion
Examine the consequences of extreme devotion to a religious cause. Characters who blindly follow their faith might be driven to commit ethically questionable acts, raising questions about the balance between devotion and ethics. In "The Sparrow" by Mary Doria Russell, the characters' missionary zeal leads to unforeseen moral dilemmas on an alien planet.
Doubt and Redemption
Narrate character arcs that involve doubt and eventual redemption. Characters who experience crises of faith might embark on journeys of self-discovery and growth, ultimately finding renewed purpose or understanding. In "The Magicians" by Lev Grossman, the protagonist's journey of doubt and rediscovery aligns with themes of magic and faith.
Personal Growth Through Struggle
Showcase characters who emerge stronger from moral challenges, reflecting personal growth as they navigate the complexities of their beliefs. These experiences can lead to a deeper understanding of faith and a more profound connection to the divine. Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel's Dart" features a protagonist whose unique perspective challenges and evolves her understanding of religion.
By infusing your narrative with moral dilemmas, you encourage readers to grapple with complex questions, fostering empathy and introspection. These dilemmas illuminate the nuances of faith and the intricate choices that define the paths characters undertake.

Lesson #1: Introduction to Magic
Witchcraft vs. Wicca vs. Paganism:
Paganism is a religion as well as an umbrella term to describe different religions. In the past, it was seen as anyone who wasn’t a Christian. Currently, a lot of practices and religions fall under the category of Pagan. No witchcraft or certain practices are required to be Pagan. Most Pagans do believe in the circles of life and death, with a strong connection to nature.
Wicca is a religion that usually involves witchcraft but not always. It was founded in 1954 by Gerald Garner and involves documents and beliefs such as the Wiccan Rede and the Harm None laws. The Wiccan religion falls under Paganism.
Witchcraft is a practice, not a religion. It can be used inside and outside of religious practices. There are many branches of The Craft, including Green Witchcraft and Cosmic Witchcraft.
Different Paths:
Not all Alchemists are witches, but Alchemy can be paired with the Craft.
Angelic Witches work closely with Angels in their practice.
A Celtic Witch would be a witch who follows the traditions and rituals of the Celtic religion. They may work with or worship Celtic deities and read Celtic myths, legends, and history. This could also include working with the fae, but it’s not required.
In a Ceremonial Witch's practice, it’s all focused on the sacred ceremonies and rituals of witchcraft. It’s more intricate than everyday magic.
Cosmic/Celestial Witches are the astrologers. Focused on the moon, sun, star, and planet cycles, zodiac signs and birth charts are their specialty. They use the energies from the cycles of the universe to fuel their spell work. Lunar Witches and Solar Witches would fall in this category, as their focus is mostly towards the phases of the moon or the sun.
Coven Witches are a part of a coven, this would include a high priest, or priestess along with members of a coven. They bring their powers together to cast spells and do rituals together.
Crystal Witches are all about the use of crystals and gems. Creating crystal grids, understanding the power of their properties, and using that power to manifest or attract the energies that the witch is trying to bring in their craft.
When it comes to Eclectic Witches they are a hit or miss. They mix and match their own practice from other religions or branches of witchcraft. That can be a good thing and a bad thing. You can make your practice your own and not be tied down to one thing. However, if you are taking from closed practices or taking from spaces where you aren’t welcomed then that is never okay. No matter what branch you practice.
A Death Witch is someone who works with the dead, or practices necromancy. This can also include helping them cross to the other side, honoring the dead in rituals, or helping people through periods of mourning their loved ones. Death deities such as Hel (Norse Goddess of Death) or Hades (Greek King of the Underworld) may be some deities a death witch might be interested in working with.
Demonologists are people who study, work with, or worship Demons and include them into their Craft.
Divination Witches are usually your psychics. They work with tools such as tarot or oracle cards, palm readings, pendulums, runes, etc. They can show the future or receive messages from the other side or from your guides.
Draconian Witches are people who work with Dragons. It is a very intricate path that isn’t made for everyone. You may approach dragons, but when it comes time dragons may or may not choose you.
Elemental Witches use the power of the elements in their practices. Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and sometimes the fifth element known as the Spirit or Either. Through bonding with the elements, she’s able to call on them in her practice. This could also be broken down by Fire Witches, who connect mostly with Fire elements. Water Witches also could fall under Sea Witchcraft. Air Witches could include playing instruments, listening to music, or singing in their practice. And Earth Witches could be classified as a Green or Plant Witch.
Fae Witches are those who work with the Fae in their craft. This is usually paired with the Celtic pantheon, but not always.
A Folk Witch can be hereditary, but not always. They include practices that are either passed down from family members, or their community. They use their ethnicities and the origins of their ancestors in their practices. Sometimes they can be closed practices, sometimes they are just not shared with people outside of those communities.
Gray Witches practice both the left-hand path (black magic) of the right-hand path (white magic). What kind of magic they practice depends on the situation.
Green Witches are all about nature, they use herbology, healing, gardening, and plant magic in witchcraft. They prefer to be outside and in nature, especially when doing their craft. Plant Witches are in a subcategory of Green Witchcraft whose main focus is plants.
Both Hearth Witches and House/Cottage Witches overlap when it comes to how they practice. They are both focused on making their home peaceful and full of magic. This can include candle magic, kitchen witchery, house rituals, etc.
A Hedge Witch is similar to an eclectic witch. But hedge witches are more focused on herbology, elements, astral protection, auras, and nature.
A Hellenic Witch is someone who works with or worships the ancient Greek or Roman deities. They perform rites and give offerings that were presented to the deities long ago.
Hereditary Witches are people whose family practices witchcraft. Power or certain practices are passed through their family line.
Kitchen Witches incorporate magic into their food or drink. They understand the properties that certain foods or herbs have and are able to pair them together to create a delicious, magical-filled dish or drink.
Sea Witches have a strong connection to the ocean. They can incorporate water, seashells, sand, and moon phases in their practices. Any body of water will do, you don’t have to live near any ocean to do sea magic. Lakes, rivers, or any natural body of water will do. They can also work with water spirits, such as mermaids.
Sex Witches use sexual acts and sexual energy to enhance their rituals. This can be done alone or with consenting partners.
A Solitary Witch practices alone or without a coven. They can be any type of Witch.
A Traditional Witch can be a hereditary, a folk, or a ceremonial witch. Any kind of practice that follows a long-standing tradition.
Wiccan Witch follows the Wiccan Rede and the Harm None laws, within their practice. They can include almost any other branch of witchcraft as well. They worship a God and Goddess as the masculine and feminine energies, and love and respect nature.
These are just a handful of witches that are out there, I know I missed many of them. Feel free to mix and match titles or have no title at all. It’s whatever you are most comfortable with and what you have a connection to the most.
Altars:
Altars are prominent in most religions; they are concentrated, personal, and sacred spaces meant for worship, spell castings, honoring ancestors, celebrating holidays and more. They can be simple and hidden, large and extravagant or anything in between. It should be created to please you and no one else.
The arrangement of tools on the altar can vary to each person, there is a basic outline, but you’re not required to follow it. When picking out the tools and decorations make sure you don’t choose random items that might clutter your altar. No matter how big or small your space is, you don’t want a messy place to work in; so make sure everything has a meaning or purpose.
Altars can also come in any aesthetic that you enjoy; some choose a very traditional altar, while others love a modern take on things. They can also be based around an element, deity, crystal, or even your favorite color.
There are so many ways you can present your altar, but as long as you make it your own precious space then the sky's the limit!
Witchcraft Tools:
A Book of Shadows, Grimoire, or another Spell Book can be anything you wish it to be, from a simple notebook, a file on your computer, or a fancy leather-bound book. No matter what it is, always keep it nearby when you are casting; you never know when you might need to jot something down or need a reference.
A Pentagram or Pentacle can be sat in the center of an altar, or worn on a necklace. It represents the five elements and can be used for protection.
Divination Tools would also be kept on your altar or nearby if you are doing spellwork. Whether it be tarot or oracle cards, pendulums, runes, tea leaves, or a crystal ball.
Photos or Statues are great ways to honor your ancestors and loved ones who have passed on (including pets!). You can add photos, notes, and other offerings on your altar as a way to honor them and call upon them. You can also add photos and statues of your guides or deities to dedicate a space to them.
Athames are beautifully crafted knives meant for spell casting or energy channeling only. They are usually not meant for cooking or other purposes.
Wands are created for energy channeling and circle casting, they can be made out of wood, crystal, metal, or glass. You can also craft your own and add crystals, charms, or other decorations to personalize it.
Candles can be used for multiple things. It can represent the element of fire and air, can represent a space for deities or ancestors, or for simple color magic. It’s good to have multiple colors and sizes, but white is usually a good substitute. You could also use birthday candles for spells that have to melt all the way down but you don’t want to wait or leave a burning candle unattended.
For the Earth Element anything that comes from the Earth naturally such as dirt, sand, flowers, leaves, certain herbs, sticks, crystals, rocks, etc can be used to represent the Earth element and be used in many ways.
Cauldrons or other heatproof bowls would be needed for making potions, burning herbs, casting spells, or scrying.
A Chalice could represent the Moon Goddess and the element of water; a chalice can hold water, wine, or other offerings. It can also be used for fertility rituals and spells.
Feathers represent the elements of air, they can be nice offerings for certain spirits, guides, or deities or be used for waving away negative energies.
Bells can represent the air element and are known for cleansing a space of negative energies to leave a peaceful feeling environment.
Each Herb, Plant, or Flower has different properties, each being unique and special. With that being said, some ingredients can be very dangerous and harmful to handle if you are unfamiliar with them; so always proceed with caution when using unknown herbs. And make sure to keep poisonous ones away from your furry or scaly friends and curious children!
Incense not only smells lovely, but they represent the elements of air and fire. They are wonderful for cleansing and each scent has its own special property.
Waters from ocean, lake, rain, storm, tap, or even bottled water can represent the water element; each can be used in a different way in a spell. But also can be used for cleansing yourself or your tools.
Poppets are very powerful tools that can be used for causing harm to enemies, initiating protection around a household, or casting a blessing on those closest to you.
Crystals are helpful for healing, protection, peace, and many other things. They are gorgeous pieces for offerings, or to just keep on your altar or in your car.
Pouches, Boxes, and Jars are a very simple way to hold any spell that you create, usually kept with the person it was made for, buried in the ground, on your altar. It can contain anything from blessings to curses.
Book of Shadows:
1. Create your own spellbooks:
Decide if you are going to have a physical book or binder or if you want a digital book, which could be left online or if you are going to print it out. Figure out the style, do you want traditional, cute, full of stickers, dried herbs or plants included, add artwork. Make it your own. You don’t have to call your spellbook the typical names, you can name your book anything you want. If you work with Spirits, Book of the Dead. If you work with the water element, Storm Book or Way of the Waters. Or sometimes more traditional like The Book of Ways. You can be creative when naming your Grimoire if you want. You can also have more than one spellbook for different tasks or information.
2. Layouts:
The layout of your book is unique to you. Personally, I tend to group similar things together. But here are things you can add to your book.
Some type of index to keep your book organized. You could also include a glossary of common-use terms or phrases.
A book blessing, protection sigils, and/or book dedications.
Your personal correspondences such as astrology charts, what type of path you practice, coven meetings (if you’re involved in one), information about the deities or guides you work with, and favorite divination methods. You could also add your favorite crystals, colors, herbs, flowers, etc.
Basic information about magic. Tools used in your craft, how to make sigils, cleansing, protection, correspondences about crystals, herbs, incense, aromatherapy, etc.
Animal correspondences, what it means when you see certain animals. This could also include familiar work, or any animal guides you work with.
Moon, sun, and planet phases. This can also include constellations, zodiac signs, birth charts, and how to read them.
The Wheel of the Year, any holidays or sabbats that you celebrate and how to celebrate them. This could also include days of the week correspondences and time correspondences.
You can add recipes that you make for offerings or holidays or even have a spellbook be a cookbook instead if you are a kitchen witch or just love cooking.
Any rituals or spells that you perform, what it is, when you cast them, the herbs or crystals you use, what the moon or sun phase was, the phrases you said, what the results were, and if you would change anything.
Divination tools that you use, the meaning behind tarot cards or runes, etc. And you can keep a journal track of when you do any kind of divination, the questions you asked and the answers you received.
History of magic, the path you practice, the deities or guides you work with. Folklore or myths from certain areas that you are interested in.
Lists of deities or guides from the pantheon(s) or groups that you’re involved in.
Different psychic abilities and keeping track of your meditation progress, dreams, affirmations, yoga, and any other energy workings that you do.
Any mythical beings (mermaids, dragons, fae, etc) that you work with and information about them. How you work with them, favorite offerings, spellwork that they’ve helped you with, etc.
Covens:
Covens are usually made up of 13 members that come together to practice Magick or celebrate a Sabbath together. They are normally very private groups that use their energies to reach a common goal or need.
Some Witches prefer Covens rather than solitary because you are able to learn and grow from the other members that you surround yourself with. If you are open with your practices then there can be a lot of backlash from non-pagans who don’t understand or accept your beliefs; so it’s always nice to have like-minded individuals in your life who you can communicate and socialize with.
However, if you are wanting to practice in solitude then that is completely up to you and your personal path. There is nothing wrong with not joining a Coven if your heart says no.

This article is philosophical in nature, and thus a lot of the concepts are open for discussion and are not factual, with the exception of how philosophical ideas effect marginalized communities.
Dualities in Witchcraft
In the realm of witchcraft, the concept of dualities holds significant importance as it encompasses a wide array of contrasting forces and energies. Dualities refer to the inherent coexistence of opposing elements within magical practices, embodying the interplay between light and dark, positive and negative, and masculine and feminine energies. Understanding the multifaceted nature of these dualities is crucial for practitioners seeking to deepen their knowledge and enhance their craft. Recognizing the impact of dualities on various aspects of witchcraft practices is paramount, as these opposing forces shape rituals, spellwork, and the very essence of magical experiences. By comprehending the nuances of dualities, practitioners can effectively harness their power and attain a harmonious equilibrium in their practice. Furthermore, exploring the implications of dualities in witchcraft provides insights into broader themes such as balance, interconnectedness, and personal growth.
This article aims to delve into the intricate nature of dualities within witchcraft, shedding light on their potential to both aid and hinder magical endeavors. A particular focus will be placed on examining the intersection of dualities with queerness, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) individuals, cultural appropriation, and community efforts. Through this exploration, we seek to foster a deeper understanding of the diverse perspectives and experiences surrounding the intricate relationship between dualities and the aforementioned themes.
What are Dualities?
Dualities within witchcraft encompass the fundamental existence of opposing forces or energies. These contrasting elements are intricately intertwined, forming a dynamic and complex web that shapes the magical landscape. Polarity and balance are intrinsic aspects of dualities in witchcraft, representing the extreme ends of a spectrum, such as feminine and masculine energies, light and dark, or creation and destruction. While many of these dualities have a negative impact on marginalized practitioners and traditions, witchcraft endeavors to find a harmonious equilibrium between these opposing forces, emphasizing the significance of striking a balance to achieve desired outcomes in magical practices. By embracing both sides of a duality, practitioners can access the full spectrum of power available to them.
It is important to acknowledge that dualities can be perceived and experienced differently by individuals and communities within the witchcraft community. Various factors, including cultural backgrounds, personal beliefs, and experiences, shape these perspectives. For instance, queer individuals may explore dualities in the context of self-acceptance, embracing the integration of different aspects of their identities. BIPOC individuals may interpret dualities through the lens of ancestral wisdom and cultural practices. However, it is crucial to understand that the precedence set by dualities presents challenges that necessitate critical examination.
Some examples of dualities that are commonly found in magical practices:
Light and Dark
Positive and Negative
Masculine and Feminine
Sun and Moon
Earth and Sky
Life and Death
Creation and Destruction
Order and Chaos
Spirit and Matter
Inner and Outer
Conscious and Unconscious
Above and Below
Physical and Spiritual
Ego and Higher Self
Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine
Divine Love and Divine Power
Intuition and Logic
Stillness and Movement
Sacred and Profane
Individual and Collective
Dualities and Intersectionality
The intersection of dualities and queerness provides fertile ground for exploration within witchcraft. Queer individuals often find empowerment and solace in witchcraft as a means to reclaim their identities and challenge societal norms. The duality inherent in queerness, such as the juxtaposition of authenticity and conformity, can be embraced as a catalyst for personal growth and magical transformation. Witchcraft can help queer individuals challenge binary constructs deeply ingrained in society. The coexistence of dualities invites practitioners to transcend traditional gender roles and explore non-normative expressions of identity.
The richness of these diverse perspectives contributes to the collective wisdom of witchcraft communities, promoting inclusivity and expanding the boundaries of magical practice. Traditionally, dualities have been perceived as opposing forces or concepts, such as light and dark, positive and negative, and masculine and feminine. However, it is essential to recognize that these dualities can be more effectively understood as intersectional spectrums, acknowledging the complex interactions with concepts such as racism, queerness, mental illness, colonization, and white supremacy. By deconstructing binary thinking and embracing intersectional spectrums, the community can challenge and dismantle hierarchies and power dynamics. This involves recognizing the ways in which white supremacy, colonization, and other oppressive structures influence and perpetuate imbalances within the practice of witchcraft. Addressing these power dynamics paves the way for a more equitable and just community.
The Harm of Dualities
While dualities in witchcraft can be empowering, it is crucial to acknowledge their potential for harm. Dualities can sometimes perpetuate exclusionary and divisive practices, reinforcing harmful binaries and reinforcing societal norms that marginalize certain groups. It is essential to critically examine the ways in which these dualities can inadvertently cause harm within the witchcraft community. The very nature of dualities can inadvertently perpetuate exclusionary practices within witchcraft. When dualities are rigidly defined and enforced, they can limit the potential for growth and stifle the exploration of alternative perspectives. This can lead to the marginalization of individuals who do not conform to traditional binary constructs or who find themselves outside the mainstream narrative of witchcraft. Dualities can have a disproportionate impact on marginalized communities, including queer and BIPOC individuals. Traditional understandings of dualities may not fully encompass the diverse experiences and identities within these communities, leading to erasure, prejudice, or invalidation. It is crucial to critically examine the intersection of dualities and marginalized identities to foster inclusivity and create spaces that embrace the multiplicity of experiences within witchcraft. Dualities can sometimes reinforce racialized hierarchies within the witchcraft community, perpetuating notions of superiority or inferiority based on race or ethnicity. Dualistic terms and concepts may be framed in ways that marginalize or exclude BIPOC practitioners, reinforcing the dominance of a particular cultural perspective within the witchcraft community. The prominence of dualities rooted in European traditions can marginalize or overshadow the diverse spiritual practices and beliefs of BIPOC communities, perpetuating a Eurocentric bias within witchcraft. Furthermore, dualities can sometimes reinforce rigid gender essentialist concepts, perpetuating binary understandings of gender that exclude and invalidate the experiences of non-binary, genderqueer, and gender non-conforming individuals within the witchcraft community. It is essential to approach the exploration of dualities with cultural sensitivity and engage in ongoing dialogue to combat cultural appropriation within witchcraft.
Dualities within various contexts, including race, gender, and sexuality, can manifest as subversively and overtly harmful to BIPOC individuals and communities. These dualities often intersect with systems of oppression such as racism, white supremacy, colonialism, misogyny, and queerphobia. They can perpetuate harmful stereotypes, reinforce power imbalances, and marginalize BIPOC experiences and identities. By assigning value judgments to the opposing elements of a duality, dominant narratives may uphold and prioritize the privileged side, contributing to the erasure and exclusion of BIPOC voices. Such harmful dualities can reinforce racial hierarchies, perpetuate white supremacy, reinforce colonial ideologies, and reinforce gender and sexual stereotypes that contribute to the oppression and discrimination faced by BIPOC individuals and communities. It is essential to critically examine these dualities and challenge their harmful effects to foster inclusivity, equity, and social justice within various spheres. Historical and cultural contexts shape the understanding and interpretation of dualities within different communities. It is essential to engage in ongoing dialogue and education, centering the experiences and perspectives of BIPOC individuals. Efforts and initiatives aimed at decolonizing witchcraft and centering BIPOC voices within the context of dualities are vital for creating more inclusive spaces. These initiatives involve critically examining the historical and cultural contexts of dualities, amplifying BIPOC voices, and fostering collaborations that respect and honor diverse cultural practices. Such endeavors strive to dismantle oppressive structures, nurture cultural exchange, and promote equity within witchcraft communities.
Steps to Improve
Communities within witchcraft are recognizing the need to address harmful aspects of dualities. Through collective efforts, practitioners are actively engaging in critical conversations and introspection to identify and rectify exclusionary practices. By acknowledging the potential harm that dualities can inflict, communities strive to create safe and inclusive spaces that honor diverse identities and experiences. Central to the transformation of dualities is the fostering of inclusivity, diversity, and intersectionality within witchcraft communities. Recognizing that dualities extend beyond simplistic binaries, communities can endeavor to embrace a wide spectrum of identities, perspectives, and experiences. Accountability measures, such as community guidelines and collective discussions, hold individuals and communities responsible for their actions and promote responsible engagement with dualities. Collective actions and community-building endeavors within the witchcraft community exemplify the commitment to challenge and transform dualities. Collaborative projects that prioritize the voices of marginalized individuals and communities contribute to the reshaping of dualistic frameworks. Community-driven events, workshops, and forums create spaces for dialogue, where practitioners can exchange ideas, share experiences, and collectively work towards dismantling exclusionary practices. These endeavors promote unity, resilience, and the cultivation of an inclusive and empowering witchcraft community.
In short, here are some steps that you can take as a practitioner to help the community and your own craft:
Education and Self-Reflection: Engage in self-reflection and continuous education to understand the impact of racism, white supremacy, colonization, misogyny, and queerphobia within witchcraft. Read books, attend workshops, and engage in discussions that explore these topics from diverse perspectives.
Acknowledge and Challenge Biases: Recognize and confront personal biases and prejudices. This includes acknowledging how societal conditioning and privilege may have influenced one's beliefs and practices. Work on actively challenging and unlearning harmful beliefs and behaviors.
Separation of Value & Correspondence: Many dualities can have positive and negative associations on both sides. An example of this is black and white. Black can symbolize grief, negativity, and emptiness; however, it can also represent protection, wisdom, and beginnings. Similarly, white can represent bleakness, rigidity, and overwhelmingness; nevertheless, it can also symbolize healing, illumination, and peace.
Intersectional Approach: Embrace an intersectional approach to witchcraft that recognizes the interconnectedness of various forms of oppression. Consider how different identities and experiences intersect and influence each other, and actively incorporate this awareness into your practices.
Center Marginalized Voices: Amplify the voices and experiences of marginalized individuals and communities within the witchcraft community. Seek out and learn from diverse sources, including literature, art, and teachings from BIPOC, LGBTQ+ individuals, and other marginalized groups.
Cultivate Empathy and Compassion: Practice empathy and compassion in your interactions with others. Strive to understand and validate the experiences and perspectives of individuals who have been marginalized or harmed by harmful dualities.
Rituals and Spells for Healing and Justice: Create rituals and spells that explicitly address healing, justice, and dismantling oppressive systems. Incorporate symbols, invocations, and intentions that promote inclusivity, equality, and liberation. Collaborate with others to create collective rituals focused on community healing.
Collaborative and Accountable Practice: Engage in collaborative efforts with others to foster a more inclusive and less harmful witchcraft community. Actively participate in dialogues, workshops, and initiatives that promote accountability and challenge harmful practices. Hold yourself and others accountable for harmful behavior and actively work towards creating safer spaces.
Cultivate Consent and Boundaries: Respect and prioritize consent and boundaries in your interactions with others. Recognize the importance of individual autonomy and agency in all aspects of witchcraft, including rituals, spellwork, and sharing of knowledge and resources.
Embrace Fluidity and Non-Binary Perspectives: Challenge binary thinking and embrace fluidity and non-binary perspectives in your understanding of gender, spirituality, and identity. Recognize and honor the diverse expressions of gender and identity within the witchcraft community.
Continuous Growth and Learning: Remember that personal growth and learning are ongoing processes. Stay open to feedback, be willing to unlearn and re-evaluate beliefs and practices, and commit to actively working towards a more inclusive and less harmful philosophy in your witchcraft journey.

Deep dives into folklore: Japanese mythology
Tumblr media
Japanese mythology is a rich and intricate tapestry woven over centuries, blending indigenous beliefs with influences from China, Korea, and beyond. The mythology of Japan is deeply rooted in Shinto, the native religion, as well as Buddhism and Confucianism. It comprises a diverse array of gods, spirits, mythical creatures, and epic tales. Let's delve into some key aspects of Japanese mythology:
Shinto and Kami:
Shinto: Shinto, meaning "the way of the gods," is the indigenous spirituality of Japan. It emphasizes the belief in kami, which can be translated as gods, spirits, or sacred forces. Shinto doesn't have a central religious text but is closely tied to rituals, ceremonies, and the reverence of nature.
Kami: Kami are considered divine beings or spirits that inhabit all things in nature. This includes rocks, trees, rivers, animals, and even human ancestors. Some prominent kami include Amaterasu, the sun goddess and ancestor of the imperial family, and Susanoo, the storm god.
Creation Myths:
Izanagi and Izanami: One of the most famous myths involves Izanagi and Izanami, the divine couple tasked with creating the Japanese archipelago and its many gods. Their union gave birth to several islands and deities, but tragedy struck when Izanami died while giving birth to the fire god Kagutsuchi.
Amaterasu's Hidden Sun: After a feud with her brother Susanoo, Amaterasu, the sun goddess, withdrew to a cave, plunging the world into darkness. The gods tricked her into emerging, bringing light back to the world. This myth explains the cyclical nature of day and night.
Japanese Pantheon:
Amaterasu: Often considered the most important deity, Amaterasu is the goddess of the sun, symbolizing light, fertility, and imperial power. The emperor is believed to be a direct descendant of Amaterasu.
Susanoo: The storm god, Susanoo, is associated with the sea and the destructive forces of nature. Despite his turbulent nature, he plays a crucial role in defeating the eight-headed serpent, Yamata no Orochi.
Tsukuyomi: The moon god, Tsukuyomi, is Amaterasu's brother. Unlike his stormy sibling, Tsukuyomi is associated with calmness and serenity.
Inari: A popular kami associated with rice, fertility, and prosperity. Inari is often depicted as both male and female, reflecting a duality in their nature.
Mythical Creatures:
Tengu: Human-bird hybrids known for their martial prowess and supernatural abilities. They are sometimes considered protectors of the mountains and forests.
Kappa: Water creatures resembling humanoid turtles. Kappa are mischievous but have a strong sense of politeness, and bowing to them may cause them to spill the water contained in a depression on their heads, rendering them powerless.
Yokai: A broad category of supernatural creatures, including spirits, demons, and monsters. Examples include the kitsune (fox spirits), oni (demons), and yurei (ghosts).
Influences on Art and Culture:
Japanese mythology has left an indelible mark on various aspects of Japanese culture, from traditional arts like Noh and Kabuki theater to literature, visual arts, and contemporary popular culture, as seen in anime and manga.
In summary, Japanese mythology is a captivating blend of creation stories, divine beings, and mythical creatures that provide a rich cultural and spiritual foundation for the people of Japan. It continues to inspire and shape the country's identity, connecting the past with the present.

In the cradle of civilization, the intricate practice of divination became a vital conduit to understand the divine will. Mesopotamians, residing between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, sought celestial guidance in every aspect of life. Believing that gods influenced their fate, they meticulously observed entrails, a practice known as hepatoscopy, interpreting patterns and anomalies for profound insights.
Celestial phenomena, such as eclipses and planetary positions, played a significant role in divination, with the Babylonians excelling in celestial insights. The recording of omens from natural events, dreams, and even physiognomy further enriched their symbolic language. Diviners, esteemed in society, held the responsibility of translating divine messages into practical advice for rulers and individuals.
In this spiritual tapestry, even fringe practices like dream interpretation and physiognomy were embraced. Mesopotamian divination stands as a testament to an ancient society where every aspect, from dreams to entrails, bore the weight of divine communication, shaping decisions and offering glimpses into an intricate connection between the earthly and divine realms.
