hey mary, do you like Loki? Did you watch the finale?
Tumblr media
(this ask has spoilers)
Before the show, no. I didn't like Loki at all. This is funny because MCU Loki was the only version of the character I couldn't stand, while in Assassins Creed, Loki easily became one of my favorite video-game characters. Of course, that's on Disney and the way they poorly wrote the characters as this sociopath genocide who envies his brother and never tried to reconnect with his original race or anything. Even after Ragnarok, with Loki stealing the Stone, he was just off for me. And then the first season came, and he was still showing dictator behaviors, acting like he had the right to control everybody else, and I was like "Ugh white man" - Yes, MCU Loki is a white cisgender dude, and this is from a critical point of view. Disney never worked with the possibility of him being genderfluid, and a fucking 1-inch note on the side of the screen during the credits doesn't change the way Tom Hiddleston has portrayed the character as a cisgender man. And don't get me started on how problematic the whole Sylvie Female Loki is okay- Do you wanna see a true genderfluid Loki? Go watch the Netflix "Ragnarok" Show. That said, I obv pretend Disney never wrote shit and Loki has always been explicitly genderfluid, and try to write him like that as well.
Anyway, I really liked the finale, especially if you compare the overall quality of this season with the first one; The show got better. Really better. it's way funnier, the rhythm is finer, and the dynamics between the characters work well. Even the photography is prettier. Of course, nothing is perfect. They got rid of the self-incest part (thank god) but somehow brought misogyny back on. Where did Sylvie's development go? Renslayer's? B-15's? Every female character is either evil or unimportant. Sylvie was literally the main in the first season but we barely got to see her now, only for her to be left with no ending. And the fact that even Kang's new variant got more screen time than Renslayer is a crime. At least we got a lot of Mobius, he's such a sweetheart.
But yes, I do like Loki. I didn't adore the finale, but I liked it a lot. Excluding the issues I mentioned before, Loki finally got his well-deserved development and GLORIOUS PURPOSE. I was so happy I got the reference and then I got so sad. He's alone, that poor soul. And I was left speechless, for a good moment I literally had to pause the show, when we got the "centuries later" logo. His willpower and determination to do the right thing after so long? Amazing. Two words to show the most unique and incredible growth a character ever had in the MCU before. Loki really became the master of time to save his friends, only in the end for his purpose to be alone without them. I AM NOT OKAY
btw, I would love to know what you guys thought about the ending, the whole god of stories being a thing now; did you guys like the show, I think it had one of the best endings for Marvel, just behind Wandavision (both shared the same problems, open holes in the narrative for future projects probably).
Good news for anyone who actually read to the end, this means I finally get to write my TVA!Reader x Wanda series, the most slow burn, enemies to lovers, ride-or-die couple ever wrote it; yay!

Masterlist °☆• Loki Masterlist
Tumblr media
The day had arrived. The day you looked forward to in excitement and anticipation, but also with fear and nervousness. Your wedding. Your arranged wedding, to be precisely.
You were a princess. Only daughter of the king and queen of Vanaheim. And due to the royal blood pumping through your veins, you were not allowed to choose the man you'd marry. The man would be chosen for you. At first, you didn't approve of this and were literally appalled by the mere imagination of marrying a strange man you had never seen before, but your mother and all your tutors had quickly put you in your place.
There was no way out of this - and you had to accept that. It was your fate. Your destiny. The destined path for a princess.
This is not of importance, sweetheart. You don't have to meet your future husband, in order to marry him.
A few centuries ago, when you had reached womanhood, your marriage was arranged and announced within the kingdom. You were bespoken to king Odin's and queen Frigga's youngest son... Prince Loki of Asgard.
Throughout all the years you had never met your betrothed.
That is the man I shall marry?
That was what your mother had answered to your question if you could meet the prince you were going to marry.
So, the topic was off the table. You had been taught to obey your mother, so why would you dare to ever ask her again? The decision was made. No meant no. You only ever heard stories of your future husband... That he was quite special - and not in the good way. Most people spoke of his mischievous and cunning nature. Some even said villainous, brute and rebellious. To hear those words scared you.
You had dreamed of true love and romance. Of being courted and wooed. You dreamed of a sweet, kind man who would treat you like you deserved - and not of a brute who would treat you like his maid. You spent endless sleepless nights within your chambers, thinking about your future with Loki. What if he truly was just a harsh, mischievous scamp? What if your dreams were about to shatter?
And now, suddenly the moment had come...
But then you started to hear other stories of Loki Odinson as well. About how charming and witty he is. How gentlemanly and eloquent. And how utterly handsome he shall look.
You were torn. Torn by every story they told you - and the worst part was that you never got to find out what the truth was and which talk was cheap. At least not until the day you would marry him. It left you a mess.
Tumblr media
You were standing in a huge chamber in the royal palace of Asgard. The room bustled with maids, who were preparing everything to get you ready for the wedding ceremony. You nervously fumbled your fingers; constantly tugging at the soft fabric of your wine red dress. Your mother had just left the room along with your father; leaving you and your troubled mind alone.
From the first encounter with Frigga, you could tell that she had a heart of gold. She was so kind and lovely. Perhaps the most good-hearted person you ever met. You got along with your future mother-in-law instantly. She had welcomed you with open arms. And right in that moment, you couldn't picture another way out.
You couldn't deny the anxiety any longer. It hit you full force; realisation dawning on you like the sun... I can't marry a man I never saw in my life.
So, you decided to order a maid to fetch the only person you hoped would be kind enough to help you. Queen Frigga. The Allmother. You and your family had arrived about a week ago and even in that week you never got to see Loki. Only the king and queen. Not the princes.
Frigga gently took your hands in hers and led you over to the bed; sitting down with you. "What is the matter, dear? The fear within you is stronger than your nervousity. I can feel it." You swallowed hard, "I- It's... It's just..." and had to take a deep breath. "I'm afraid of marrying a man I never saw in my life. I-I know that this is not of importance and probably even forbidden, but-" A radiant smile forming on the queen's lips interrupted you. You furrowed your brows; were confused. Even more when she started to chuckle.
Only a few moments passed, before the young maid returned to your chambers; following the queen.
"Y/N, my dear..." She immediately walked up to you. "You called for me?" You just nodded; anxious eyes meeting Frigga's beautiful blue ones. "I-I did. Could we... Could we talk in private?" "Of course!" She reassured you, then clapped her hands twice. "Would you all please leave and give us some privacy?" All the maids stopped in their tasks and immediately rushed to leave your chambers.
"My son requested the exact same. Barely before you called me to your chambers, I sat with Loki and spoke about this with him as well. I guess you are quite similar in that case." She chuckled again and reached for your hand again. You just stared at her; not quite believing what she just said. "I understand you, dear. I couldn't do such a thing either. Back when I had to wed my husband, I demanded to at least see him and share a few sentences with him beforehand as well. It helped me to adapt to the situation I was in. Therefore, I can't deny yours, neither my son's wish." Frigga stood up and offered you her arm. "Come on."
You swallowed hard; feeling your heart beat rapidly against your chest, as you approached the little pavilion.
You blinked; were utterly speechless. You knew Frigga would understand you, but that... That wasn't something you anticipated to happen. Still a bit stunned, you stood up and took her offer. She led you out of your chambers, down several hallways you had never seen before, until you were outside the palace and had reached a beautiful garden. She stopped, nodding towards a small pavilion quite a few meters away, which was surrounded by rose bushes and cherry trees.
"My son is waiting for you in the pavilion." Frigga let go of your arm and gave you a smile. "You have about an hour before the maids will return to get you both ready for the ceremony. Make sure to be back at your chambers by that time." With a wink and a soft pad on your arm, she turned around and left.
Your heart skipped a beat.
Carefully - almost shyly, you peeked around the corner.
A man was standing in the middle of the small pavilion, with his back towards you; hands clasped behind his lower back. You could see that he was wearing a green tunic and black leather boots. Gold accents highlighted his whole outfit.
He had long hair - as black as the feathers of a raven. It fell in soft curls over his shoulders. Your gaze climbed up and down his body. He was tall. Norns, he was so tall - and his hands were big. You could tell. They would swallow yours whole.
"H-Hello?" A dark, smooth and slightly high-pitched voice spoke. "A-Are... Are you Princess Y/N?" You could tell by his voice that he was nervous, too. Probably even afraid - just like you.
You didn't even notice how your mouth fell agape. Or how you made another small step forwards; totally enhanced by the God you saw standing in front of you.
Barely after you set one foot in front of the other, a small twig snapped underneath the weight of your body. You flinched - and the man quickly turned to face you; flinching the slightest bit as well. The gust which was created by Loki's quick spin was sent directly into your direction and no second later, his scent hit you; invaded your nostrils... Leather, something dark and musky, charred wood and a slight hint of mint and something fruity. It smelled so rich, so divine, but also so addictive and cosy. You almost fainted.
You needed a moment to get yourself together. "Y-Yes, I-" Your words faded into a gasp as your eyes met his for the first time ever. He had the most beautiful eyes you had ever seen. Blue like water and as deep as the oceans. They held so many emotions. Nervousity and fear, but also curiosity and excitement. But above all kindness - the same kindness which sparkled within his mother's eyes.
Loki smiled and took a few cautious steps towards you. "It is my utmost pleasure to meet you, my princess." He gathered a bit of his bravery and hesitatingly reached for your hand, taking it gently in his. With a soft bow, he bestowed a small kiss upon your knuckles; soft, smooth lips brushing against your cold skin. A shudder rippled through you.
"The- The pleasure is a-all mine, my prince." You more or less stammered out, now utterly distracted by his chiselled facial features. High cheekbones, sharp jawline and a perfectly shaped nose. Norns, you thought. He looks like carved out of marble.
Loki gave you a smile. "Thank you for agreeing to this little... secret meeting. I-I just had to see you before the ceremony, I-" You gave his hand - which still enveloped yours a soft squeeze. "I know. I felt the same way." A nervous chuckle left his lips, followed by an even bigger smile. "That makes this situation so much easier..." You reciprocated his smile. "Indeed, my prince."
You took a seat on the small, cosy bench and decided to use the time you had left to talk and get to know each other at least a little bit, before you'd become husband and wife. It was exactly what you - and Loki needed. But especially, it calmed your fears of marrying a brute, despiteful man. They had been wrong... Oh so wrong. Loki was not like that. He was like you hoped he'd be. Kind, gentlemanly, sweet - and utterly romantic. His heart may be battered and bruised, but you could feel that this man would do everything to be a good, loving husband for you.
The hour flew by way too fast; within the blink of an eye and soon it was time to part ways - for now.
"Thank you, my pri-" "Loki. Please... It's Loki for you." That made you blush even more - if that was even possible. "Thank you, Loki." You smiled. "I can't believe I'm going to be wed to such a handsome, polite and sweet man either."
"Again... Thank you for agreeing to this." Loki said; voice soft. You shook your head. "No need to thank me. I wanted this, too, you know..."
Silence settled over the both of you, until he let out a soft, breathy chuckle. "I can't believe I'm marrying such a beautiful, kind-hearted woman in barely a few hours." You blushed in the darkest shades of crimson at his words; suppressing a girlish giggle to slip past your lips.
That caused Loki to blush.
A nervous chuckle bubbled from deep within his chest. "Thank you-" "Y/N." You interrupted him. "Y/N." The way he rolled his name off your tongue almost send you into another dimension - you were sure of it.
His words hit you straight into your heart. You could swear it was aflame by now, burning for this man you knew so little, but were going to wed in a few hours.
"Are you still nervous?" Loki asked then; eyes soft. You nodded. "Y-Yes, I- I'm afraid it's going to get worse..." You giggled nervously; desperately trying to play it cool, but failing.
He took your hand in his again; gently caressing the back of your hand with his thumb. "I know this is normal. I-I am nervous, too, but... Please don't worry. You are not alone in this. I'll be there - and I won't ever let go of you."
You took deep breaths; smiling brightly. Now you could say that you were really looking forward towards your wedding. For the first time in centuries.
"T-Thank you. That is really reassuring to know. I-I won't let go either." Loki smiled, "That's good to know, my darling." and leaned in for a delicate, small peck on your lips. It was gentle and barely lasting - but it felt so right. So good.
Before you were able to answer something, his hand slipped from yours as he was passing you by; stepping out of the pavilion and out of your sight.
Tumblr media
"You look beautiful, sweetheart." Your mother said with tears in her eyes. She placed her pointer finger underneath your chin. "It's time for you to enter the next chapter of your life. A lot is going to change, I know - but your whole life was spent preparing you for exactly that moment. You're a strong woman, Y/N. Never doubt that. And Loki is going to be a wonderful husband. He's the perfect match."
By now, you had to fight off the tears as well.
Your mother leaned in and placed a lingering kiss on your forehead. "I'm so proud of you, just like your father. I love you." You smiled; swallowing hard to get rid of the lump in your throat. "Thank you, mama. I love you, too." She gave you a loving, motherly smile and left to sit with the other wedding attendants.
You took a deep breath and with the sounds of the fanfare, you stepped through the golden doors and slowly walked down the red carpet towards Loki - who stood at the altar; dressed in his ceremonial armour, waiting for your arrival.
All eyes were on you, but you only had eyes for your prince.
When his eyes landed on you, they widened immediately; his mouth falling agape. He watched how your wedding dress swayed softly with each step you took.
She looks absolutely beautiful, he thought; feeling his heart beating rapidly against his chest.
It was all you needed in that moment.
You walked slowly, gracefully - like you've been taught. It felt like an eternity, until you finally reached him.
Loki immediately stretched out his hands for you to lay yours in his - and you did. The moment you touched, it felt like you could finally breathe normal again. His skin was so soft and warm; giving you the feeling of warmth and comfort. For you, his touch was a safe haven. He was anchoring you; preventing you to get lost in the sea of no-man's-land.
You looked up. His endless blue eyes met yours for the second time - and time seems to stand still around you. In that moment, it was only you and him.
You smiled and finally weren’t afraid anymore of the future. Not if it involved the man right in front of you.

Tom Hiddleston Characters: How They Would Propose (To You)
(Disclaimer: I do not own any of these characters or images. This is just a fun listicle, not designed to offend anyone. As always, please feel free to leave comments and/or constructive criticism below. Thank you, and without any further ado, please enjoy!)
Characters in this list: Will Ransome, King Henry V, Prince Loki Odinson, Loki of Asgard and Jotunheim, Bill Hazeldine, Coriolanus, Jonathan Pine, Robert Laing, Magnus Martinsson, Oakley, Thomas Sharpe, James Conrad, and Jaguar Villain! Tom Hiddleston.
Also, my sincerest apologies - they all turned into mini-fics.
Will Ransome from The Essex Serpent
Tumblr media
Reverend Will would propose to you after a Sunday roast dinner, after your family invited him to your home. You were helping to clear the table with the rest of the ladies in your family when Will coughed to announce his presence. At once, everyone cleared the dining room, leaving you alone with the vicar.
"A word please?" He politely called you by name, his hands clasped in front of him. Will sat you down in one of the empty chairs. Gods how he wanted to reach out and tuck one of your stray hairs behind your ear in that very moment, one of the intimate things that he longed to do with you. Intimate things that would be proper in the eyes of God if you were his lawfully wedded wife. He did not sit down, and gently began talking to you. "For some time, I have been charmed by you. Not just your looks, that is not to say that you are not a lovely woman. You are most lovely, but I have also been charmed by your kindness, your humility, and your…virtue."
Will knelt before you, looking up with the most earnest gaze. "If you will bestow upon me the fortune of being your husband, then in return I shall do everything to keep you safe and comfortable.  I shall speak to your father, and we will be wedded in holy matrimony. You and I shall walk together upon this path of life, and I have no doubt that a virtuous woman like you will aid me in carrying out what the Lord decrees of us. My sweetest, please say that you will marry me."
Henry V from The Hollow Crown
Tumblr media
With Henry, there was not much of a proposal to begin with. The marriage between you and the King of England was arranged by your father and his men, along with the king and his men. Still, Henry coaxed your father into having at least one private audience with you before the wedding ceremonies, so that he may properly court you as any suitor would.
'My dearest lady," Henry began as soon as he was alone with you in his study while your father and his men stood vigil outside. "Lower thy veil, and let me behold your face." He reached forward and removed the hood of your cloak, smiling as he beheld your beauty for the first time. "Cheeks rosier than the flowers that bloom in springtime. Your lips and eyes are so enticing, they call to me like sirens. Yours is a face that I shall never tire of seeing.
I confess to you, my lady, that words are not my greatest strength. Were it so easy that I could simply strap on armor or fire an arrow into a target or vault into my saddle for a wife, I should quickly vault for a wife. Alas, tis not so. For a woman's heart is truly one of the most difficult conquests to embark upon. Nevertheless, tis a conquest that I shall duly pursue if you can deign to love me.
If you can love such a man as me, someone whose words are not their strongest suit and someone whose fidelity to you is true, then take me. Take a soldier, and in taking a soldier, you will take a king." Henry knelt before you and offered you his hand. "Sweetest of all maidens, canst thou love me?"
Prince Loki Odinson of Asgard
Tumblr media
"I have called you to discuss a matter of great importance, my lady." Loki enunciated the formal title at the end in an attempt to conceal the butterflies in his stomach. He summoned you to the palace gardens at the house before twilight, when the sky would be decorated with streaks of orange and pink. You walked alongside him through the bushes and the groves of flowers. Loki clasped his hands behind her back, walking as if he ruled every inch of earth on which he stepped.
He continued, "Yes, tis true that Thor, my brother, is the one whom my father has decreed to ascend the throne of Asgard," The younger prince of Asgard looked forward with a solemn expression while you listened with intrigue. "But he is incompetent." Loki turned to you. "He is idiotic and brash. You know as well as I do that he does not encompass the values of a king.
"Was he not the one who wished to invade Jotunheim alone, my prince?" You stopped in your tracks, just as the sun began setting into the horizon behind you.
"Yes, he was. It was all his idea, my lady." Loki did not bother to include his role in instigating Thor, it would not help him in this moment whatsoever. If he delayed this moment any further, he was convinced the words would be stuck in his throat, forever unable to escape. "You are one of the few people with whom I can share these thoughts, my lady." He sighed, his gaze fixated upon you and your beauty. "It is why I have called you here. In the coming future, I will need to protect Asgard from my brother's foolishness. And for that I should like to have a worthy companion by my side."
Loki conjured a shining dagger with a gold hilt out of thin air and promptly fell to one knee before you. The hilt of the dagger was engraved with the words, 'Min hærr, duonningen av mitt hjerte' (My beloved, Queen of my heart) Still on bended knee, Loki looked up at you with an expression of innocence that you never knew existed within him - wide eyes, baited breath, a meek expression. As if all his life were being wagered on a single thing right now.
"I wish to make you my wife," Loki declared, his lips trembling. "Should you accept, I will bring my proposal to your family, and then we will be wed with due ceremony. And if you decide otherwise, then I shall…" he swallowed, "I shall respect your choice."
Loki of Asgard and Jotunheim from the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Tumblr media
"This looks like something stolen from the Graham Norton Show." You raised an eyebrow when Loki handed you an orange and purple card.
"It's a scavenger hunt." Loki said with a twinkle in his eye. "Every clue leads you to the next one."
"I know how a scavenger hunt works, Loki." You rolled your eyes and flipped over the card. "Was this your idea, or is this some ridiculous team-bonding activity put together by Steve Rogers?"
"No. You see,…I have some errands to do, but at the same time, I have an obligatory excursion with the Lady Valkyrie."
You crossed your arms. "So why the scavenger hunt?"
Loki brightly answered. "Well, it makes the errands all the more fun!"
"Alright, but you owe me, Loki."
"Good girl." The God of Mischief kissed you not the cheek and disappeared into thin air.
You glanced down and saw that the first card, which told you to pick up six cupcakes ordered under Loki's name. The cupcakes were from a specific café….that just so happened to be the place where you and Loki had your first date, which was set up by a far-too-enthusiastic Thor. The moment you got there, a waiter brought you a "complimentary" cupcake of your favorite flavor…along with another orange and purple card.
The second card took you to the library, on the pretext of picking up a book that was on hold for Loki. There, the librarian handed you the book - Divine Comedy by Dante - and another book that you recognized. It was Pride and Prejudice, one of the first pieces of "Midgardian literature" that you introduced to Loki, a book that you were all too happy to fangirl over. But inside the book was - yes- another orange and purple card.
The third card sent you to pick up Loki's dry-cleaning. (Really, Loki? Dry cleaning?) At the dry-cleaners, the person at the register handed you a transparent garment bag containing a black tuxedo with a ruffled white shirt. And then you were given a second garment bag with an emerald green gown embellished with diamonds. You couldn't help but stare a few moments at the pretty, expensive-looking gown. Before the person at the register could hand you another card, you made a mental note to ask Loki about the gown and whom it was for. You guessed it was probably for himself for the times he was feeling fabulous. Actually, Loki also liked to wear absolutely nothing when he was feeling his most fabulous…but that didn't matter right now.
The fourth card took you to the park where Loki confessed his love for you for the first time, on the pretext of picking up Loki's forgotten jacket and buying a bouquet of white flowers.
The fifth card took you across the city just to get a particular bottle of liquor that Loki had liked. Okay, now this guy was having a little too much fun with you right now.
You were relieved when the sixth card, given to you by the liquor store clerk, led you back to the Avengers compound, to the same room where you began this entire scavenger hunt. You huffed a little, setting the box of cupcakes, the books, the two garment bags, Loki's jacket, the flowers, and liquor gently on a table. "Loki? Loki, where are you?"
Loki stood in the middle of the Avengers' common room, wearing polished gold armor over a black and green leather tunic with long, dark trousers. His hair was combed perfectly in place, and his hands clasped behind his back. He stood surrounded by a few candles and fairy lights hanging against the curtains.
"Okay, I need answers…" You sighed, already tired from running around all afternoon. "Loki, I got your things, just tell me what the gown is for and the…the liquor and the…Are you throwing a party or something?"
"I'm getting married."
"What?!" You gulped, reaching for the nearest couch. "I…what? You're getting married, why didn't you tell me? And…" You felt your head start to spin, preparing yourself for the worst. Whatever happened to all the times he said he loved you? Was he just using you to put together some kind of romantic gesture for someone else, just a tool?! Perhaps this is what you get for letting the God of Mischief into your life. Betrayal. "Well, I hope they make you happy, Loki." You relented, putting your head in your hands.
"She does."
"Good." You murmured, trying your best not to cry in this moment. That was the last thing you wanted him to see. "Is that gown for her too?"
"Hm-hm. Of course, it'll probably end up on the floor after the engagement party, hehe."
"Loki, I am in no mood for your jokes right now." After a few moments, you looked up.
"Come on,…have a sense of humor."
"NO!" You yelled, getting up from the couch. "No, I will not have a sense of humor right now! You used me! You used me, and lied to me. You told me to do all of these errands, like picking up dry cleaning, and buying liquor, without telling me that you were going to propose to someone else! You could have at least told me, just so I'd have some kind of closure. But no, you couldn't even think to do that. You told me it was a scavenger hunt, like I wasn't worth knowing the truth.
I...I did this because I care about you, Loki! I care about you like some kind of idiot who actually thought that you might like me the same way that I liked you. That right there, making me like you might just be the worst thing you have ever done me." You took a moment to breathe, and ran your hands through your hair.
"Ugh…And you made me even pick up her engagement dress! What kind of person makes someone do that?!" You couldn't even think about the words you were spitting out, too busy with the hot tears clouding your vision.
"The kind of person who knows how good it'll look when you wear it."
"What?!" You were taken aback all of a sudden.
Loki approached you with a hint of nervousness. "Darling, you are one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I know I'm not easy to be with, that I drive you mad sometimes, and I make you put up with a lot. I...I should've practiced this more." He laughed under his breath. "Why didn't I?" Blinking, he pushed his hair back before continuing.
"What I'm trying to say is,...my life has never been the same since I met you. You're the most steadfast ally, a wonderful friend, and best of all, you are the most passionate and loyal person I have ever known. I could never imagine my life without you, and I never want to. That's how much I love you."
The God of Mischief fell to one knee, and held up a small emerald ring with a gold band.
"Will you marry me?"
Bil Hazeldine from Suburban Shootout
Tumblr media
"Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise, sweetheart." Bill pulled his father's car into a driveway, and took your hand. "Just close your eyes, alright?"
"Alright…" After a few steps, you could hear Bill opening a door and the sound of a shopkeeper's bell, along with the muted conversations of various patrons. The scents of vanilla and grease reached you almost immediately.
Bill held you close and whispered that you could open your eyes now.
When you opened your eyes, you laughed a little. "We haven't been here in a while…"
"You remember it?"
"How could I ever forget?" You kissed him on the cheek, and let him find a table for you.
Bill's proposal began with him taking you to the milkshake diner where the two of you had your first date. After a bit of small talk over a banana split, Bill not-so-discretely excused himself. While you sat at the table with your spoon and checked your phone, Bill made his way to the jukebox with his hands in his jeans' pockets, feeling the small box inside. He'd almost thought about wearing a suit for this occasion, but his mum said it would make you suspicious. And his father suggested hiding the ring inside your ice cream to be more romantic , but Bill was terrified by the idea of you accidentally choking. Yes, keeping the ring with him was a better idea.
Bill took a deep breath and slipped a coin into the jukebox, flipping through the various tracks to find one of the songs you enjoyed. When he found one, he pressed play and called your name. Bill extended his hand out, offering to dance with you. He twirled you, and the two of you swayed in time with the music, smiling all the while. At the end of the song, Bill proudly kissed you on the lips.
He gently said your name, and pushed a bit of hair out of your face. "You're the one I want to dance with to every song…There's just no one like you, no one I could ever dream of that's just as wonderful as you are." Bill reached in his pocket for the small box, and fell to one knee, not caring who might be watching you in the diner. Inside the small box was a 0.3-carat diamond ring with a silver band. "Would you make me the happiest man in the whole world, and marry me?"
Caius Martius Coriolanus from Coriolanus
Tumblr media
Coriolanus invited your family to dine with him and his mother one night on the pretext of an important matter concerning two important families of Roman nobility. It was not the first time he'd done such a thing, inviting your family to break bread with him and his mother. He had even visited your father's home before, sharing wine with your father and your brothers from time to time. It was through those meetings that Coriolanus fell more in love with your smile, the way you bit your lip when you were thinking,…and even the way your laugh infected him like a plague. And if there was anything more deadly to him than your simple, unadulterated laughter, then it was your beauty which had him fighting the urge to smile whenever you walked into a room or whenever he heard your voice.
But despite his best efforts, it became quickly aware to everyone in your family how besotted the general was with you. The way his head unintentionally bowed whenever he was in your presence, as if you were the sun and he would go blind if he looked you straight in the eye, never went unnoticed. The fact that you were the only person who could make him laugh, and that the simple mention of your name was enough to make the powerful General and conqueror of Corioles lower his usual barking voice made your family - and anyone else in the general's presence - giggle under their breath.
So when everyone had finished the prima mensa, Coriolanus stood up and raised his cup. "I have called you here tonight, to make a proposition," he declares with the same voice that he would use to speak to the Senate. "An alliance between our families…" The general turned his gaze to you for a moment, and exhaled to calm his racing heart, which only quickened when you looked back up at him. "If you will bestow upon me this honor, I wish to make your daughter…my wife. She is virtuous, and kind,…endowed with a noble background."
He waved for two of the servants of his household to present your mother and father with gifts of imported silk and valuable coins. And for you, the general had his servant gift place a set of golden jewelry - a girdle, five bracelets, and a layered necklace with rubies - in your lap. Underneath the girdle was a small piece of parchment with the words,
"I long to see you wearing these on our wedding night, my lady. Only these."
You turned red, and looked up and the general, politely expressing your thanks.
"Should you accept," Coriolanus gave you a nod and turned to your family. "We shall make our alliance official in the presence of the gods. Your daughter shall be my wife, and I her husband. I will defend her from harm and protect her, as I have defended Rome time and time again. Your daughter will be cared for, and all I ask for in return, is your fidelity. Pledge to me your allegiance, for I shall need your influence when the time comes for the elections in the Senate.
Instead of a dowry give me your loyalty, and I swear that your priceless gem of a daughter will want for nothing for as long as I live. Do I have your word?"
Oakley from Unrelated
Tumblr media
"Let's get married." Oakley off-handedly said while the two of you stood outside, leaning against the wall while he smoked a cigarette.
You raised an eyebrow. "Are you kidding?"
"No." He took another drag of his cigarette and turned to you with his ocean blue eyes and tousled, dirty blond curls. "We should get married."
"Who are you and what have you done with Oakley?"
"What, you don't think I'm good enough to marry you?" He protested.
Shaking your head, you laughed. "No, it's not that…"
"Well, then what is it?" Oakley crossed his arms and furrowed his brow at the sight of you laughing. "We have fun together, we make each other laugh,…we look good together, especially when naked-"
That was enough for you to playfully hit him on the shoulder, causing him to chuckle. He continued, "We like each other. We have this great relationship."
"But are you sure this is what you want?" You asked. "Don't you want to explore, try things? Do stuff before you're tied down?"
"Why would I do that? When there's this…beautiful, funny, smart, and sexy girl right there with me, I'm not even looking at anyone else." Oakley simply countered. "I like what we have, and i don't want to let it go. We can travel, explore the world, and I'll do it all with you." There was no sign of hesitation in his voice, but maybe it was just the cigarette fueling his courage. He came closer to you, and looked dead serious. "I don't want what we have to be just something we try for as long as we can, something we leave up to chance. I want forever with you."
"Forever?"
"Forever." Oakley knelt before you, his eyes going from a vivid cyan to a soft, almost pale bag blue. "I don't have a ring but…" He removed his necklace and presented it to you like an offering at an altar, calling your name. "Marry me."
Jonathan Pine from The Night Manager
Tumblr media
Jonathan had been working with MI-6 for almost two years, embarking on various mission for them after he gained acclamation for helping to carry out Operation Limpet. He, along with officer Angela Burr, took down the infamous arms dealer Richard Roper once and for all.
Since then, Jonathan found himself a new home in London and got back in touch with you, the one who stole his heart back when he was still working as a night manager. He didn't know how much he truly missed you until you answered his letter, telling him about the twists and turns your life had taken since your last encounter with Pine. After about three weeks of exchanging handwritten letters - simply because they reminded you both of a simpler time and felt more personal - with Jonathan using a pseudonym to protect you, he invited you to visit London for a holiday.
And those five days you spent in London were some of the best five days of Jonathan's life. He delighted in your innocence, the way you happily took his arm and strolled through the city, randomly surprising him with kisses. Arm in arm, without a care in the world except for each other, enjoying all that life would have to offer…This is how it should be, Jonathan thought to himself as he gazed at the sparkle in your eyes, the color in your cheeks. He listened as you talked about everything you liked about London, everything that disgusted you, and everything you hoped for in the future, simply taking in the opportunity to just be with you.
After a few moments, you asked him about what he wanted in the future, and all Jonathan had to say was one word.
"You."
You looked up from your cup of tea. "Me?"
He took a breath. "Yes." Jonathan affectionately said your name, and reached for your hand. "I never grew up in a house with both parents, doting on me." He told you about how his life up until joining MI-6 was an abominable quest for order. How his time in the military and working in the hotel business was part of an aim to find a direction in his life, and how little happiness it truly brought him. How alone he felt whenever his life wasn't being threatened.
Jonathan sighed, not used to telling so much about himself in a single conversation, laying his heart out on the table to be cut into and devoured. "I promised myself that I would find the one person that I could care deeply for, and love them. I promised myself that I would make friends, find a home…a place to belong. Maybe someday become a parent."
You looked upon him lovingly. "That's beautiful, Jonathan."
He raised your hand to his lips and kissed it. "I want all of those things, and I want them with you." Jonathan declared, quiet enough for the two of you to hear. "These past days with you have been…incredible. When I look at you, I see everything that I have wanted, the life that I want to be living five years from now, ten years from now."
He continued, "You make me believe in a future that's worth building. The way you smile…, the way you look upon me and everyone with stars in your eyes…I want to be the one who keeps that smile on your face, the one who makes you laugh. I want to be the one who kisses you good night, and the first one you see in the morning. I want to be the one you come home to every evening, the shoulder you lean on."
Jonathan stroked the back of your hand with his calloused thumb. "I know it's soon, but if there is anything that I've learned, it's that when you see something worth keeping in your life, you do everything you can not to let her go. You just do it." He looked into your eyes. "Marry me?"
James Conrad from Kong: Skull Island
Tumblr media
It was the third time this week James had a nightmare. After thrashing and groaning, fighting an invisible beast, James found it in himself to call you - his neighbor whom he'd been dating for two years - on the telephone. His forehead and his chest were dripping with sweat, his expression one of agony, when you approached his bed. It was obvious that he had been in a lot of pain.
James wasn't the type of person who wanted to expound upon the terrors he was feeling; he was a man of action who preferred expressing his emotions nonverbally. So, you respected that and simply talked about mundane things, things about civilian life that would temporarily distract James. As you both fell asleep, you made a mental note to remind James setting another appointment with his therapist, the one MONARCH had prescribed for him.
You woke up to an empty bed. It wasn't unusual for James to go out on an early morning walk to be alone with his thoughts. It was one of the things he'd learned from his therapist when he asked about how to be a better sweetheart to you while recovering from his trauma. You washed your face and brushed your teeth with a heavy heart, hoping it wouldn't be too long before you saw James again.
While you styled your hair, you heard the door unlock. James walked inside, carrying a bag of breakfast pastries. "Good morning." He greeted you in a low, casual voice.
"Good morning…" You would've asked if he slept well, but given the events of last night, that question made no sense. "I'm sorry I stayed over."
"No need to apologize." James set the pastries down and placed a kettle on the stove. While the water rose to a boil, James unwrapped the two chocolate croissants he bought, and glanced up to find you standing in the kitchen. You walked up to him slowly, and without missing a beat, James gently kissed you with an arm gently holding your waist. He murmured your name again, his breath warm against your lips. "Thank you."
"You're welcome."
James gave you a chaste kiss on your forehead before going into his bedroom. "I brought breakfast for us both. Should I make us some eggs?"
"No need…" You watched James open one of his drawers. "Before I forget, do you want to make an appointment with your therapist?"
"Uh, I will." James returned to the kitchen with a small box in his right hand. "Thanks for reminding me."
"What is that?"
James took a deep breath. "Just something to thank you for last night,…and for everything you've done."
"James, you really didn't have to-"
"No. I've been wanting to do this for a year, it's time."
Your breath caught in your throat as James opened the box to reveal a small, simple sapphire ring. He began, "I should've done this sooner, and I'm a fool for not doing so." James fell to one knee, and you gasped. "Darling,…Over the years I've known you, you have helped me…become a man again. You've remained by my side as I've made attempts to return to civilian life. You've comforted me during my worst hours, and you have given me something worth living for."
"James…"
"You're someone worth fighting for." He laughs a little. "I love you. And if you let me, I will spend the rest of my life making you feel loved and caring for you in the ways that you have cared for me.
Darling, will you marry me?"
Magnus Martinsson from Wallander
Tumblr media
"Marry me." Magnus groaned with relief when you brought him a plate of eggs, some coffee, and an aspirin. He was laying on your couch, hungover after a night out with you and some of his mates from the police station.
You simply rolled your eyes and laughed a little. "Eat your eggs, you'll feel better with some food inside you."
Magnus kept his eyes on you while you both drank coffee, his headache slowly diminishing. "That a yes?"
"No, Magnus." You flatly said. "You had a lot to drink last night. Just…eat your eggs and finish your coffee. I'm not saying yes to a guy that passed out on my couch after throwing up into the bushes outside."
He grimaced. "I did that?…Sorry." Magnus looked down and shoveled a forkful of eggs into his mouth. "Whatever, it was just a question, not like I meant it or anything." He pretended to brush off the matter. "You doing anything else today?"
"Tidying the house. You?"
Magnus closed his eyes for a moment to taste the savory flavor of the eggs. "i have a few things to do at the station for Kurt. Won't take long."
You and Magnus finished breakfast in silence before Magnus thanked you for letting him crash on your couch. "I'll see you soon." He said, giving you a kiss on the cheek.
You almost found it funny, the way he groaned for you to marry him, and chuckled to yourself. For all of his sarcastic quips and his cold exterior, there were times Magnus was an unintentional sweetheart. You'd known him for about seven months, how endearing he was whenever he tried to show off at darts or pool. You thought about the time he brought you soup every night when you had a flu that lasted for a week. And during that one time he showed up late to one of your date nights because of a case, he spent the rest of the evening simply snuggling with you until you fell asleep in each others' arms. It was one of the first times you'd ever seen him smiling so blissfully like a newborn baby.
About a few hours later, you could hear it rain outside, a bolt of thunder rumbling across the sky. While caught up in some trashy television, you heard a knock on the door.
There was Magnus, standing outside drenched from head to toe.
"Magnus, what are you-"
"I meant it." He confessed while the raindrops rolled down the sides of his face. "Marry me." He repeated when you asked him what he was talking about. Magnus reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small gold ring with three tiny diamonds. "You're the most perfect person in this entire world. And it's not just because you make the best eggs." He said, making you laugh. "You're stunning, even when you've just woken up. You put up with a lot, and…I can't really say what it is you do to me, but I can't help it. I…I…"
"I love you too, you crazy detective!" You finished.
"So, is that a yes?" Magnus asked again, with a big grin on his face as he presented the ring to you.
Robert Laing from High-Rise
Tumblr media
"We need to talk." Robert broke the silence while the two of you shared a candlelit dinner in your flat.
All traces of a smile disappeared from your face instantly. Usually nothing good ever followed those four words.
You put your fork down. "What did you want to talk about?"
Robert looked you in the eye. "I moved to this high-rise to be alone, to be away from people. This…a relationship was the last thing that I wanted." He blinked, looking down at his plate for a moment. Then, he wiped his mouth with a napkin.
You tensed in your seat, preparing for the worst. God, Robert. If he was trying to break up with you, then he just picked the worst time possible.
The doctor stood up. "I thought I wasn't built for love…So I tried to be alone as much as I could, avoiding every chance to be attached to someone." He swallowed. "And then you came."
You let out a sigh, assuming that Robert was going to say something awful about your relationship.
"It was like I couldn't even recognize myself anymore. What you did to me…" Robert called your name and walked over to you. "I cannot go a day without hearing your quippy words…, without seeing you when I come home,…without kissing you. It's more than anything I have felt in years." He confessed, his fingers tracing the back of your chair. "If you were to disappear from my life, it would feel like losing everything I've ever known. And…truthfully, the idea of that terrifies me. Maybe I could live without you,…but I don't know if I would be able to call it living.
"So what are you trying to say?" You murmured.
Robert sighed. "Forgive me, I'm not used to having these conversations."
"It's okay."
"You did it again." The doctor remarked. "You're making me fall in love with you, sweetheart." Robert went to the coat closet where he kept his blazer, and pulled a small box from one of the pockets. He returned to your side. "What I'm trying to say is,…that I'm in love with you. I'm in love not only with you, but with the way that you make me…feel things. The way that you remind me that there's a future ahead of us both. A future that can be much more than just dreary parties and squabbles between the upper floors and lower floors. You make me very happy, darling, and I think that you should know that."
Robert took a deep breath and fell to one knee, next to your chair with the box opened to reveal a silver ring with a diamond heart. "Would you marry me, and make me an even happier man?"
Thomas Sharpe from Crimson Peak
Tumblr media
You were sitting on the swing set in the garden of your family estate, enjoying the mid-morning sun and the gentle breeze. Idly moving your legs back and forth, you played with a small cluster of Baby's Breath in your lap. It was nice to be away from the bustling drama and the incessant gossip, and instead be surrounded by fresh air.
"My lady." You were awoken from your reverie by a smooth, vaguely familiar baritone that belonged to none other than Thomas Sharpe. He was a guest who'd been staying at an inn near your family's home, having joined your family for supper at least ten times in the past two weeks. In your eyes, he seemed mysterious and yet full of stories to tell, always having an anecdote about a place he'd visited or a trick to show you and your siblings. There was something about him that made you drawn to him as soon as he walked into a room, you were unable to articulate what it was.
"Good morning. What brings you here, Baronet?"
The baronet gave you a smile, and leaned against a tree, watching you enjoy yourself on the swings. "I was speaking to your father and his, erm, associates about a business venture."
"About clay, right? Mining it?"
Thomas nodded. "Precisely, my lady. And you, have you been enjoying your morning?"
You blushed as he took a step closer. "Yes, Baronet."
"No need for such formal titles now, my lady. We're not at a ball, nor are we at supper. ''Thomas' will do." He gently said. "May I share your company for a while, my lady, if it would not be much of a bother for you?"
You allowed him, giving the Baby's Breath to him as a token of affection. No, not a token of affection. Simply a nice gesture that would hopefully give you a place in Thomas's good books. Maybe he might even ask you for a dance at the next ball.
"Will you be attending the ball this Saturday, Bar- I mean, Thomas?"
He nodded, taking a moment to smell the flowers. "You?"
"I will."
"And have you chosen a gown, my lady?" Thomas decided to humor you a little. He smiled while you sheepishly described the dress that you had your eye on for that special occasion. "Well, I'm sure you will look divine wearing it, my lady. Do you often spend time here in the gardens, all by yourself."
"Yes. I enjoy the flowers, and the breeze. It's beautiful when the weather is pleasant."
"I can imagine, my lady. It's been a long time since I have relaxed in a garden." Thomas places the Baby's breath in his front pocket. "My lady, there is something I wish to know of you."
You stopped swinging, and asked him what it was.
"I would like to know if you would be interested in marrying me." Thomas knelt by your side, looking up at you with eyes that bore the same hue as a cloudless sky. "For some time, my lady, I have admired your numerous charms from afar. And with each passing day, my affections for you have grown stronger. I find myself thinking about you at the most unpropitious times of day." He sighs, "While I may not be a man of great fame or great brawn or of great wealth, I am a man of dignity." Thomas promised you, despite knowing it was a blatant lie. "I will make sure that you lack nothing as my wife. And to treat you with nothing but the compassion and the love that you deserve. All I ask in return, is that you try to find it in your heart to give me even an iota of your affections.
Would you be willing to do that, my lady?"
Jaguar Villain!Tom Hiddleston
Tumblr media
Ever since you moved into the flat Mr. Hiddleston bought for you, the most powerful man in London always had a designated town car sent to pick you up from work or school every day. His favorite chauffeur would show up at the same time every weekday, give you a friendly greeting, and drop you off at your flat. And once you got there, you'd be greeted by a doorman that Mr. Hiddleston personally hired to make sure that you reached safely.
Today, however, the chauffeur did not drop you off at your flat. At least, not right away. "Monsieur Hiddleston had something different in mind for today," he said with a small grin, like he knew something was going on. The chauffeur dropped you off at the nail salon for a manicure paid for by your powerful beau.
After being pampered by the nail technician for about forty-five minutes, you returned to the town car to find a bag in the backseat with the word 'Harrods' on it. "You went shopping?" You asked the chauffeur while he drove you to your flat.
"Non, it was all Monsieur Hiddleston. He was keeping this dress on hold, and asked me to pick it up for you. He would like you to wear it tonight."
You thanked the chauffeur with a smile. Inside the bag was a beautiful Carolina Herrera gown in your favorite color. And right on cue, your phone buzzed with a text from your beau, asking if you liked his gift. As always, you texted back saying that it was perfect.
The chauffeur dropped you off at your flat, and asked you to be ready by seven-thirty…but not before taking a good look at your manicured nails and saying an early 'congratulations'.
"Gordon owes me a favor," Mr. Hiddleston bragged a little when he arrived in front of your building at seven-thirty sharp. He opened the door of his favorite black Jaguar, and helped you inside the front passenger seat. "You look stunning tonight, darling."
"You look amazing too," you couldn't help but say. It was the truth after all. "When you said Gordon, did you mean…?"
"We're going to the River Restaurant in the Savoy Hotel, darling." He kept one hand on the steering wheel, placing the other one on your knee. "Hungry?"
"Nervous," you sheepishly said.
"I'm here, nothing can harm you." He turned his eyes to the road. "Your fears are far behind you."
The moment you arrived, the host of the restaurant immediately led you both to one of the outdoor terraces, where there was a table for two set up. Mr. Hiddleston pulled the chair for you before sitting down, and a waiter poured both of you some Dom Pérignon.
"This is beautiful." You gushed, watching the most powerful man in London raise an invisible toast. You clinked your glass against his.
 He replied with a dramatic flair.  "Nothing compared to you."
"So…what did you to get this favor?" You leaned in and asked him while the waiter placed a charcuterie board for the two of you to share. "This is a seafood place, charcuterie isn't on the menu."
A twinkle in his cerulean eyes, Mr, Hiddleston fed you a piece of cheese. "That's confidential, darling. Just enjoy the night."
"I will."
The two of you made small talk about your day, and about Mr. Hiddleston's upcoming business trip to Paris. You would be going with him of course, Mr. Hiddleston would make sure of that. The waiter refilled your champagne, and your beau discretely gave him a twenty-pound note, whispering that it was time for the main course.
The waiter took about fifteen minutes to bring your elegantly-arranged entrees out onto the terrace. And as he came out, you could hear an orchestra from inside the hotel begin to play "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera.
"Enjoying yourself?" Mr. Hiddleston leaned forward with a smirk as he noticed you listening to the music.
You admitted this was one of the songs you enjoyed, and said it reminded you of the first time you'd ever heard of the musical. How much you wanted to be Christine in that moment, serenaded with the promise of a life with no more darkness.
"Well there's one more thing I have for you tonight, darling." With a smirk, Mr. Hiddleston reached into the pocket of his blazer, retrieving a small box labeled 'Harry Winston'. He slowly got out of his chair and made his way towards you.
You gasped, covering your mouth almost immediately. You swore you could feel your heart stop just for a moment when his eyes met yours. It all made sense now: the manicure, the accidental 'congratulations', the gown,…
 "Oh my god…"
Mr. Hiddleston fell to one knee and opened the box, which contained a 1-carat diamond ring with a platinum band. "Love me. It's all I ask of you."

Mad Happiness
Loki Oneshot Masterlist - Main Masterlist
POV: Second
Ship: Loki x Reader
Type: Fluff + Angst
Wordcount: 1,290
Synopsis: Your parents are dead set on having you marry Thor, and forbid you from seeing Loki until they realize you and Thor won't work out.
A/N: This is for @little-diables 15k celebration contest! This fic uses a Hamlet quote which will be in bold and italics.
Tumblr media
You paced the room, counting every step and taking calculated breaths. Isabelle, your handmaid, had gone to check the mail. You and Loki were banished from seeing each other, but that wouldn’t stop your communication.
Isabelle walked in, and you rushed over to her. In her hands lay a golden envelope with the royal stamp. You kissed her on the cheek. “Thank you, thank you Isabelle!”
She simply nodded. While Isabelle was not keen on your insistence to remain in touch with Loki, she could tell that the two of you were madly in love. She loved you like a mother, and wanted to see you happy.
You sat down at your desk, carefully opening the envelope with a letter opener so as not to rip it. The paper inside smelled of tea leaves and your prince. You unfolded it, holding your breath as you began to read.
My Dearest Flower,  It shall not be long until I hear your laugh again. Thor has managed to bring his mortal to Asgard, and Frigga is convincing Odin that they should give the couple their blessing. Once that is done, your parents will be forced to give up on the prospect of you and Thor. His love, Jane, is an interesting individual. I believe you will like her. Remind Isabelle that I am deeply indebted to her for delivering these letters. I feel mad enough as it is without seeing you, if I had no communication at all I would surely die.  Yours forever, Loki
You made your way to your bed with the letter still in hand, laying down on your back. Isabelle watched you blush and smile at the ceiling as she moved to get you ready for bed.
His love was something you could hold onto, even after your parents forbid you from meeting with him. Isabelle stood at the foot of your bed, trying to get your attention away from the sparkling daydreams that filled your head.
With a wave of her hand, you came back to the room and gave her a soft smile. “Oh! Loki sends his thanks. He says he is ‘deeply indebted’ to you.”
Isabelle chuckled. “Smooth talker, that one is. You better keep an eye out for lies.” She talked like she believed Loki to be the dark prince of lies. However, she sensed that he would never lie to you.
You let her help you up, still dazing. “I love him.” You whispered, and she sighed, taking your hand and walking you over to the bath.
“I know.” She said simply, undoing the strings on your clothes and helping you step into the warm bathwater.
As she scrubbed you, your mind wandered to the first time you told your parents about your love for Loki. They had looked at you indecorously, calling you mad.
“You're young, you don’t know what you want. You don’t know what’s best for you.” Your mother said.
“We are the only ones looking out for your future, and you repay us with these childish feelings?” Your father asked, shaking his head. “Absolute madness.”
They had already been quite upset, but you made it worse with your reply. “Aren’t we all a little mad? What is love if not madness?”
Your father slammed his fist on the table, dismissing your words. “That’s enough. Go to your room.” You began to protest, but it fell on deaf ears and you were forced to retire for the night into your room.
Even now, with Thor clearly in love with another, they did not give up on trying to get you in wedlock with the crowned prince. No matter how many times you declared that you loved Loki. It didn’t matter that he was still a prince, it wasn’t good enough for them.
They called your love for each other immature. They said that you weren’t thinking clearly, and had tried several times to snap you out of your ‘trance.’They declared your love to be out of a delirious high of happiness that made you throw all of your common sense out the window.
You couldn’t care less what your parents thought about you and Loki. You had never wanted to marry Thor anyway. Although he was a total sweetheart, he didn’t have your heart. And you didn’t have his. Thor fell for a Midguardian girl that he met during his brief banishment to Midgard.
It wouldn’t be long until your parents would be forced to accept reality. Once Thor and Jane were married, it would all be okay. You just had to hold on a little bit longer.
~~~~~
A sob burst out from downstairs. It was your mother. You rushed downstairs, finding your mother crying on your father’s shoulder. In his hand was a letter, an envelope with the royal stamp laying open beside him.
A grin spread across your face, despite your better judgment. You quickly smothered it, not wanting to further upset your parents.
“What’s all the fuss about?” You asked, walking over to them. Of course, you could easily tell that the letter they just opened announced Thor’s wedding with another.
Your mother barely could stop her cries to talk to you. “We-” She managed to choke out. “We have received a royal wedding invitation.”
You let yourself genuinely smile. “That’s wonderful.” You said. Your father scowled at you, although he was not surprised in the least.
“Now what are we going to do! Our daughter will never become royalty!” You refrained from rolling your eyes.
Walking over to your mother, you took her hand in yours. “Mother, I believe you are mistaken. Remember how there are two princes?” You asked, and she glared at you.
She shook her head, frowning. “Loki does not have the reputation that Thor does, and he will tarnish your-and our-reputation.”
“Mother, please. Reputation or not, I still love him, and he loves me. Why can’t you see that? Shouldn’t you want nothing but joy for your daughter? He brings me happiness! A happiness that often madness hits on, which reason and sanity could not so prosperously be delivered of. Deprive me of this mad happiness and I will not be able to function. I may be mad now, but you have not seen the least of just how mad I could be without my beloved.”
Your parents stood silent, stunned by your words. The clearing of Isabelle’s throat made you turn around to find her standing with a gaping Loki. You curtsied, and facing you, Loki recollected himself and regarded your parents.
They ignored him, much to your dismay, so you turned around to scowl at them. They seemed to recollect their senses and bowed.
Loki gave them a tight smile. “I have come to ask of you to join me as my date to the royal wedding. If that is alright with your parents.” He knew they wouldn’t say no. They couldn’t.
Your father sighed, having weighed his options. Although Loki wasn’t the perfect individual for you, he would have to work now that Thor was off the table. Plus, you were right, he was still a prince. Second in line to the throne, which wasn’t completely undesirable. “Of course, your highness, we approve. Isabelle, how about you fetch some tea for our guest?”
Isabelle rushed off to get some tea, and your parents left you alone. Loki slowly walked up to you, looking you in the eyes. It took every ounce of self control that you had to not immediately run into his arms and kiss him. “My love.”
“My prince.” You breathed, and he took your hand and kissed it. You dropped your self control, removed your hand from his lips, and smashed your lips onto his.
Tumblr media
There's a silence, weighed between three; Thor, Jane, and yourself. You feel is crushing you, resting across your chest, constricting your throat. You put your gloved fingertips on the table and rise.
"Pawdon," you cringe at your own voice, "I must see to my mother…"
Thor rises, Jane doesn't bother as she pats her stomach. You leave without further pretense. Your skirts ruffle around your slippers as you flee without true purpose.
It's an excuse. Your mother wouldn't want to see you, to be reminded of the burden she's left with. Your betrothed and his parents can hardly think better of the circumstance. Yet you loathe to think how it should be if this contract is declared null.
You enter the corridor and turn aimless towards the center of the house. Apart from the few rooms you've been shown into, you haven't much sense for the layout of the house. Loki never troubled to guide you and your mother kept herself cloistered up in her grief.
You shuffle forward. Perhaps a breath of fresh air or if you go so far as your chambers, you might hide in there. You proceed through to the drawing room and give pause. Low timbres in mid-hush, from behind a door not quite shut.
Your name escape the space between frame and clasp. You go no further, instead tiptoeing to hide behind a broad bookshelf, just between the hidden office and the entrance. You tamp down your breaths and listen, knowing you shouldn't, knowing you can only regret to hear the unbridled truth.
"...she can hardly speak a word…"
"Perhaps it is that you don't allow her too. You've always been one to do overly much speaking," Odin retorts, "Loki, have you considered her demureness may be a blessing? That the sort you are would do better with one who listens before they talk, eh? You could learn–"
"Father, she is not what I was promised."
"She holds the same bearing and she is not hideous. She's rather becoming, I think–"
"Oh yes, then why don't you have her? Have you tired of the maid already?"
"Careful, boy," Odin growls, "do not be so petulant. If you could restrain yourself you might realise what you've been given."
"A dumb mute–"
There's a strike of flesh on flesh. A grunt and a snarl, each from a different throat.
"She is to be your wife. Do not sow bitterness in the soil. You should pity that she must put up with an ingrate such as yourself. You are getting exactly as I promised, you will have your vineyard in Kyri, you will have an estate in tears when her father is regrettably gone… what else can I give you? Shall I cut my heart out?"
"If I refuse, I have Jade Park. It is mine by right."
"You haven't any right if you do not provide an heir to it," Odin rebuffs.
"She is not the only duke's daughter–"
"Of a dozen, I'm sure, but cruel as it is to say, they aren't all in queue for a second born."
"You needn't remind me. Thor has his pick, he may do as he pleases, and I get scraps!" Loki blusters, "fine, father, if only to rid myself of your mighty hand. I will marry and you will be gone from my estate. By my right!"
You press yourself to the wall and clamp your lips shut as Loki storms out. He has his hand on his cheek for a moment before tearing his fingers away. He does not look back as he crosses the chamber, stomping through the next doorway just as he sends a standing vase crashing to the floor with an angry swipe.
You stay stuck to the wall as you hear softer steps. It's too late to flee but the Grand Duke calls you out before you can think of it. Odin says your name just as he peeks around the bookcase.
"Apologies you had to witness my son's tantrum. At his age, you'd think he'd be past all that," he slants his lips tritely.
"Pawdon, yaw gwace, I didn't mean to intwude–"
"It mightn't have been your mission but along the way you did make the choice. I don't fault you that, curiosity is dangerous," he shakes his head, "I am ashamed, lady, to think my son is so stubborn and uncouth. It isn't how I've brought him up."
"It's… it's fine, yaw gwace, I know I am not… expected."
"Eh, none of us are, are we?" He tugs on his cravat with irritation, "what say you? Shall I show you the splendors of Jade Park as my sons steeps in his childishness?"
"Yaw gwace?"
"I presume you've not been given the proper look around. I admit my son is rightly jilted by me. I was rather reluctant to hand this over. It has ever been my most treasured property but even second sons need some value… and second daughters…" he offers his arm as he turns, "besides, it's been some years since a pretty young lady adorned my arm."
You look at his sleeve then his flinty hair. He does not censor himself but his truth is not mean. It is only just that. It is what is. You tuck your hand into the crook of his elbow and thank him softly.
"I should thank you, lady," he pats your hand, "I can appreciate someone who reveres silence."
He sets off, tugging you into step. You keep pace, comforted and for the first, at ease in this strange place. This place you must call home.
"We'll save the gardens, I've a little secret for you there."
🔹
“I must return to be sure the banns are read at perish, as they will be here,” your mother points Doreen to her luggage chest with her fan, giving a silent order. “Oh, to think, I must attend my daughter’s grave in the same week I sit to hear the other engaged.”
You’re silent, patient. You know it’s better to let your mother ramble than to interrupt. If any one cared to hear it, you might admit you’re not dismayed to see her leave.
“Be sure you behave. Your father and I made an effort to keep you aware of etiquette. Do mind your manners,” she chides.
“Yes, motha.”
“Oh, and…” she gives you a tortured look, “try to choose your words carefully.”
You nod. You know her meaning clearly. Avoid those syllables that underline your detriment.
“Good, good. Your father is devastated about your sister, you see? I must away.”
“I understand.”
“It isn’t so difficult to be a wife,” she comes close and looks you in your face, “it is part of being a woman. Give him an heir, or two, and you’ll have the rest of your life to be happy. Duty first.”
She touches your arm, squeezing it before she spins to remind Doreen not to forget her chain of pearls left on the vanity. You tuck your chin down and bite your lip.
Duty. What if your husband doesn’t do his? What if he cannot? If he is so repulsed by you, you might not even have the chance to provide him an heir.
🔹
As your mother departs, the Grand Duke and Duchess remain. The first son and Lady Jane take their leave as well, insisting on having the expectant wife home in case of a sudden labour. Even with a few additional guests, the house feels empty. You have only your novels and Doreen, and she is reticent company, a hard line drawn between you by status.
You tire of the pages. You’ve read them a dozen times at least. All of your books are well worn and near memorised. It’s easier to live in your head where you do not sound like a fool.
You approach the door and ponder without. You have a yearning to explore but a fear of what lays outside. You’ve never been much for social graces; you have neither tact nor eloquence. You tend to shy away and forget your posture.
You clutch the handle, battling your fear. You pull the door open, assured by the silence of the corridor, and emerge. You look right, then left, and turn to the former. You wander down to the door you recalled from your stroll with Odin.
The dark oak with the long vertical handles that spiraled at the top. You ease one open, edging quietly into the darkness within. You should’ve brought a candlestick but the windows allow enough light to limn the shelves and upholstered chairs around a single low table.
You wade through the dull hue and stop before a shelf nearest the window, shifting a book to read the spine. Swift. You’ve not read anything by that author. You slide it loose and flip back the cover and flutter past the front page; A Tale of a Tub imprinted into the sheet.
You squint as you turn to the first page of cramped font. You bend your neck and turn towards a light, not realising the glow moves towards you, only focus on the unraveling of letters before you. A shadow nears until you are drawn up by its umbrous presence.
“Oh!” You gasp in surprise.
Loki looks down his nose as he holds a candlestick. You peer past him to the dark rectangle of the doorway that leads to the attached sitting room. You give a sheepish look to the floor as he reaches for the book in your hand. You let him slide it free, his thumb hooked over the pages before he snaps it shut in his hand.
“Satire. A musing of theology and science. Hardly a woman’s novel,” he remands. “My mother may have something to your preference.”
You take a step back and look at the window, the sun yellow and warm through the pane. You bring one hand up your arm to pinch your sleeve nervously. He is cold and you will never be used to it. A whole life to be spent in the tempest of his distaste.
“Funny, you should be repulsed by me?” He snorts.
You face him and feel the crease between your brows. He lets his eyes drift to the ceiling and gives a scoff. He spins on his heel and sets the candlestick on a tall table between the shelves.
“Let us not pretend either of us are happy. Even if you say little, it is written across your face. I saw it the moment we met. Then I heard you speak and I knew it was all a great joke on my behalf.”
You frown and squeeze your arm, keeping your arm bent across your front, like a shield, “what did you see… when we met?”
He shoves the book back on the shelf. You watch the fabric of his vest strain between his shoulders, almost admire how he’s folded his sleeves to the elbow, though the tops remain bloused. He tilts his head and strides along the wall of books.
“You act so innocent. I don’t believe it, not like the rest. You sit and pout and mope, expecting everyone to coddle you, to feel bad for you. I do not.”
“I do not act–”
“You lie like any woman does. Let us be clear, my wife will not lie. Not to me.” He turns and crosses his arms, leaning on the bookshelf, hooking one foot over the other. He takes a breath and lets it out slowly. “You will be quiet unless given leave to speak. I needn’t be further embarrassed. My father and brother have always made certain I am derided, you will not join them.”
“Loki–”
“Lord Laufeyson, husband, nothing else. Not your companion, not some kindred spirit, not anything but a convenience. A duty,” he raises a long finger as he speaks, “once I get a child on you, then we will be very much as we were before. Separate. Can you understand me?”
You bite down as hard as you can, until your jaw hurts. He speaks to you in the same tone your father used when he was agitated. He treats you like a child and yet, as Odin said, he acts like one himself. Spoiled and mean.
“I am not stupid, yaw gwace,” you say.
He narrows his eyes and stands straight, gripping his hips as he glares at you, “we’ve said all we need to say. You may go.”
You don’t move. Not right away. You don’t know why you don’t. Your heart is drumming and your ears are tingling.
“I am dismissing you,” he sneers.
You stare. Still regardless of the sharpness to his lilt.
He pulls his hands off his hips and balls them, posturing as he takes a step forward. You wince as a spasm of anger tics in his cheek.
You let the tension out of your jaw and drop your arm straight. You surrender but you do not hang your head as you turn to leave. You walk stiffly towards the door. As you reach it, he speaks again.
“Do not come in here again,” he bids.
You do not answer. You don’t argue. You don’t look back. You just go.
🌙Your past life🌙
Well, hello my little oysters 🐚 This reading is an insight into your past life. I was looking into your energy, your previous job, goals, love, family, obstacles and advices form your past self etc. So there might be some things that could possibly trigger you (mentioned death, life difficulties). But, as always, take what you please, comment if anything resonates and just enjoy.
Shall we SEA?🌊
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pile 1. Uroboros
Who were you: Scorpio energy. I think you were in some position of power. Very secretive, always keeping things to yourself. Also keeping yourself in the shadows as you didn’t like being in the center of attention. You knew you were smart and you used it to your own advantage. Old soul, maybe during medieval times. A part of nobility?
Your main goal/want: I’m getting the vibe that you were born in an upper family but you just wanted more. However your ambitions were not all wishful power lust - it was more rational, strategic. You despised sitting still and doing nothing. You were deep into the game and you were good at it, trust me. To be honest, I’m getting some Game of Thrones energy - not only with fighting houses but also with the setting (castle corridors flooded in semi-darkness lol). You wanted to make things better (whether it was literal things or something more abstract).
What did you do (job/finances): Your wealth (at least in the beginning) came directly from your family or heritage. You didn’t need to work for money, you worked for yourself, maybe some relatives. You liked the struggle, the puzzles, the intrigues. It kept your mind occupied. „Finally, a worthy opponent.” *hides a smile*
Love life: I’m sensing some arranged marriage or marriage of convenience (but it’s not like you were pushed to do it - maybe even you were the one who thought it would be a good idea to get married for some reason). You were for sure not looking for love. BUT. With the marriage ceremony completed, true love was served to you on a damn silver platter. Y’all just skipped the dating phase lol. And, what is important - your spouse had very similar energy to yours. You joined forces (world domination couple xd). It’s like when Loki of Asgard fell in love with the alternative Loki. For some of you, it could be the same sex relationship (but then it would probably be in the shadows). Or it could also mean that there was actually no marriage - because it was your decision whether to have one or not - and if you knew it wouldn’t serve you, you simply wouldn’t get married.
Children (or not): I’m getting some only child energy. It was your decision to have a child - not only you planned it but you actively chose one (adoption maybe??). Or maybe you had a pupil for whom you were not only a guardian, but also a mentor. For sure your child has grown to be just like you. I don’t think you were that kind of a parent who shows their affection openly (I know, shocker), but you were a protector. And your child admired you. For sure.
Obstacles: Passion has always been a dangerous field for you in your past life. Dangerous dance. As well as all the people around you. You didn’t mind competition, but to find out that you actually deeply care for winning? That wasn’t something you signed up for. It was scary to find out that the game actually affected your emotions. You worked better with your mind engaged only.
An issue that progressed into your current life: Sometimes a spilled coconut milk is just a coconut milk. 🧉 It’s not about being grateful for shitty things in life or just being grateful - just look around to see other things. Maybe don’t focus only on this milk. Maybe on some fruit, mango perhaps idk. You don’t need to win every day to be happy. (Sorry for philosophical bullshit but I heart these one loud and clear)
Life purpose in your past life: Power, strength and wisdom (the holy trinity lol). You were surrounded by spirits who really enjoyed watching you mature. And by maturing in that case it meant being able to look in the mirror (and face your emotions).
Lesson from your past life: Sharing is caring lol. Appreciate your family or don’t be afraid to create one. Some battles are worth fighting for, even if you know you are going to lose. And sometimes it’s okay to step back (you made your point, so what? Everyone is dead already, nobody heard your damn point). Sometimes it’s enough to fight for what you need, not for what you want.
Death: I don’t think you died of old age, you were at full strength. You just grabbed a higher position when it happened. You fell off your high horse lol. Or maybe you literally fell off some rocks.
Pile 2. Orange tree/sefirot
Who were you: Sagittarius. Love given. Love received. Strong personality. You had all you needed in you. The real magic in a real person, who cared deeply for their family. Your touch made things grow. It’s like your everyday chores were a spell you cast on things around you. A warm happy gaze.  You did ponder the way the universe works, karma, past and future lives. I think the person you once were, was actually aware of who you are right now. You saw the future! And, I think you lived somewhere sunny and warm. Maybe the south? I see an orange tree.🍊
Your main goal/want: Peace. Harmony. Trust. The connection to the spiritual world. You had and still have really strong roots. You saw my gaze once. I feel there was a time in your life when you wanted revenge (or something similar) and as a result it carried you away from the life that you truly wanted.
What did you do (job/finances): Your previous job required an enormous responsibility on your part, you had a high position. So maybe you were a doctor, a judge, a scientist, or a soldier.
Love life: A lot of passion and desire, but also heartache. One of you had a position lower than the other. I’m also sensing some age gap, and there was some imbalance in that relationship. I think you often split up and got back together a while later. Maybe people around you were against your relationship and you had to hide it. I’m sensing you both went through a lot of changes during your lives - you grew up together. And you never gave up on each other.
Children (or not): Surprise child. Unplanned pregnancy. Maybe you live in times when your relationship was forbidden and you couldn’t get married. And with the baby you both found yourself in a difficult situation (but you made a choice to keep it). Very much your choice. That’s random, but I feel that despite all odds your child was very happy and optimistic. A little ray of sunshine. You cherished your child, spoiled them with love.
Obstacles: An illusion you wanted to live in. I don’t think you were naive, but some people might have judged you as such. It’s more like you just couldn’t stand the ugliness of the world sometimes, so instead you decided to create a small perfect bubble for you and your family. A cheerful oblivion. But it wasn’t oblivion after all - you weren’t oblivion, you just couldn’t stand all the bad things.
An issue that progressed into your current life: Number 8. Like it was in your past life, you still have the urgency to help others. You have hope in you, which is beautiful, but some people might use it against you. You crave your ideal life, but be careful or you’ll end up stuck in your fantasy. I'm hearing the words: „Don’t drown”.
Life purpose in your past life: Motherhood (not necessarily literal). You had such amazing nurturing energy, capable of creating life. I’m almost seeing this as if you could make a tree blossom just by touching it. You were a perfect listener, you made people feel seen. Also you could have been a truly amazing protective parent (I’m getting the vibe of a mama-bear).
Lesson from your past life: Protect your home and yourself first. If you genuinely want to help others, make sure to care for yourself first. Giving yourself to others doesn’t mean slowly destroying yourself. Breathe.
Death: I think you lived to an old age in your past life. And as you were getting older, you were separating more from the world outside. I think it might have something to do with your death. “For two grandma swore.” (don't ask lol).
Pile 3. Atlas holding the sky
Who were you: Responsibilities. Religion. You were a human lucky charm, attracting good things. Fate either with or against you in your life, no in-between. Your existence made others believe in miracles, even though you yourself were quite a down-to-earth person. You gave off the vibe of a noble knight who helps their neighbors and everyone loves them. I'm seeing a sentence: „It’s not who you are, but what you hold within yourself.” Idk bro. And I think you lived rather close to nature, so no big cities.
Your main goal/want: Your goals mostly revolved around material things (you weren’t greedy, just responsible lol). That’s random but I think you wanted to own a part of the land (take care of it, cultivate it, use it, and live there).
What did you do (job/finances): You were so hardworking. Couldn’t sit your ass down. Something school-related? Or maybe church? Professor or a priest? For sure your workplace gathered a lot of people for whom you were a mentor.
Love life: A love that is a gift from the Universe. Steady relationship. Instant attraction, a lot of courtship. Something that was supposed to be just a physical thing turned out to be a deep connection. You both understood each other so well - you could have had a conversation without talking, just with your eyes. You quickly got married but not without making a little sacrifice (moving out to a new place, a downgrade to your life before or something like that). But, like I said, this love was a gift. You didn’t waste it.
Children (or not): You planned your family. You had all the time in the world, so you could go the traditional way. I think you had a couple of children after you got married. Your home was idyllic, seriously. I’m even seeing some flowers in your house and a beautiful garden. Safe bubble of comfortable ease.
Obstacles: There was some unconscious desire in you for some drama. A big action, a great gesture. Don’t get me wrong you were SO fulfilled at the family level, but something about your spiritual life, your faith, got you kinda restless. It’s like you heard the fate calling out to you, but you loved your family too much to follow it. But the call stayed. A small rip inside you.
An issue that progressed into your current life: You still can’t stand to do nothing. I bet even if you tell yourself you can rest, your thoughts just keep running and running. It’s maddening. And I think you rarely ask others for help. You might seem open and friendly but all the most important stuff you only keep to yourself.
Life purpose in your past life: Guiding others. You held some authority you knew how to use. And the call - I’m sensing that some goddess above or idk, some spirit, might have been a bit bitchy about you choosing the family instead of your divine mission. But you go, bro! Show’em!
Lesson from your past life: „Pride is not the opposite of shame, but its source.” Listen to uncle Iroh! Don’t take yourself so seriously. And trust your instincts. Remember that the distance from the real world might be painful - history shows that gods rather often ask for sacrifices than handle gifts.
Death: Your death was quick. Maybe poetic? Or just tragic. Happened at the moment when you ended some important part of your life. No specifics here, sorry dudes.
Pile 4. Prometheus
Who were you: You were a warrior. A street-smart person. You experienced so much at a very young age (I’m getting the number 16). Because of that you had to grow up too fast. Mature eyes, but a young face. You were rather reserved, distrustful, often skeptical. But also strong, resourceful, independent. People might have felt intimidated or even scared of you.
Your main goal/want: „What am I working on now?” You wanted to master your skill. Even though you’ve already gone through the training phase, you still wanted to prove yourself. You were being deceived by your own personality.
What did you do (job/finances): You commanded others. You had to face forces much bigger than you, all alone. You were giving orders, but it doesn’t mean that you didn’t work as much as your subordinates. You were responsible for others but demanded the most from yourself all the time. Your job was rapid, you definitely weren’t sitting behind a desk.
Love life: Twin flame. Your spouse was destined for you. You met at a crucial moment, when you both needed somebody like the other in your lives. You both were on a tough path: I’m seeing two soldiers supporting each other while marching. (I don’t mean your job was for sure connected with the military - it's more about your resilient energies together). Intimacy. Passion balanced by a soul connection. Whispering secrets to each other’s ears in the dark. Sharing quick kisses in the daylight. You will meet again. Coz that's what you do - you keep on going and your paths are always crossing.
Children (or not): I think the moment when you and your spouse were safe enough to start a family, was actually the biggest victory for you. For your children you were the biggest authority. They looked up to you all the time. As for you, I’m feeling a lot of pride and fear for them. You wanted to be a perfect parent, again putting too much pressure on yourself.
Obstacles: Some circumstances in your environment made you move around the world. For some time in your life you couldn’t stay in one place for long. The politics of the times in which you lived put crutches under your feet.
An issue that progressed into your current life: You have this tendency to make sacrifices, putting yourself in danger. It eventually may lead to a whirlwind of less fortunate events that cannot be stopped.
Life purpose in your past life: Embracing solitude. Finding out you are as much human as the rest of us. You can make mistakes and still be reaching greatness. You can be alone, but what for?
Lesson from your past life: Focus on love, connections. Learn to combine opposites within yourself. You don’t need to choose one path. You can be with others and not lose yourself at the same time.
Death: In your sleep. You had some kind of divine protection - as you died, you were taken care of and guided home.
Hello! Could you write about a female reader who is plus sized that shamed themselves Infront of Loki? Maybe smut ?
My first request!! So exciting!
Thank you so much for the ask! I hope you like it!
Title: The Second Princess
Pairings: Loki X Plus Sized Reader
Warnings: Language, Smut, possible trigger for eating disorder (nothing graphic just slight mention of starving one self.)
Tumblr media
You were the second princess of Alfheim.
Your sister the crowned princess was beautiful, funny and had the thin figure of all of the Alfheim ladies.
You on the other hand…
You knew you had a pretty face, you and your sister were spitting images of your beautiful mother. But you constantly heard you would be just as beautiful as your sister if you lost your additional weight. Or you would be so pretty if you were thinner.
All it did was make you eat more.
And as the second princess your responsibilities were minimal. You didn’t have to worry about being a Queen one day. You knew that eventually your father would set up some political marriage that brings some kind of benefit to Alfheim and then your job would be birthing babies..probably gaining more weight..
You used to do some exercises with some of the court ladies, go for longer walks around the palace or on the palace lands outside. But every time you heard an off handed comment about your weight it always set you back.
Your father never cared, he never mentioned it. But your mother?..oooff..Mother would constantly badger you about losing weight.
She would say to you, “your father will never be able to find you someone to marry, unless you want to be betrothed to the king of Muspelheim!”. Or, “we need to tell the cooks to make less food for you if we want you to be fitter by next feast.”
After hearing it all these years, you start to believe it.
So you stop your exercises and you ignore your mothers instructions. In fact you would eat more just to spite her.
Who wants to be married to some stuffy prince anyway? All the ones you had met have been so boring and they think they know everything!! Always talk about duty and battle..blah blah blah!
You were over it. You didn’t want to be someone’s broodmare. The idea of just being used to continue someone’s lineage makes you ill. You wanted to be loved. You wanted to have your children out of love. But you don’t believe that that is your destiny…
So here you are again, getting fitted for a new gown for a feast on another realm. You were actually excited this time because you were all going to Asgard, the realm eternal. You personally had never been there, you think your mother didn’t want to be embarrassed by you.
“Suck it in girl!” You hear your mother yell while she’s watching the seamstress get the measurements for your new gown.
“I am mother. If I suck it in anymore I’m going to pass out..”
“Hush, you’re just being dramatic.”
You look down at the seamstress and she gives you a soft smile. Even though your mother was often cruel to you, the people around the palace were kind to you. They frequently saw your mother speak to you harshly so they would always find ways to bring up your spirits.
“We are going to Asgard girl! If we have any hope of finding you a husband it will be there! Most of the princes from all of the realms are invited to go to Thor’s name day feast!”
“I know mother..”
“Do you? It doesn’t look like you do.”
You look down, “I’m trying mother.”
“Hmm. We shall see.”
She leaves the room after she’s satisfied with the fitting, afterwards you run outside to the stables and take out your horse. You ride to your favorite spot and place out a blanket, listening to the creek a few feet away from you. You lean your head back against the tree you were sitting in front of and close your eyes enjoying the peace. And then you hear the sound of a horse approaching. Your sister dismounts.
“Hello sister. I’m sorry I didn’t make it to your fitting, my lesson went on a bit longer.”
“It’s alright…mother was a wonderful companion through it all…”
“Ooff…the bad?”
“You know how she is..”
“Yes. But don’t let her get to you. You are beautiful y/n, don’t let mother make you feel any different.”
“Thank you sister. Are you ready for our father to throw you at Prince Thor?” You ask her.
“Ugh. He’s so handsome but so oafish at the same time. The last I saw him he was 6 ales deep and trying to start a bout with any man who was drunk enough to accept.”
“You’ll have beautiful children at least..”
Your sister looks at you for a moment, “you will too y/n. I promise you.” She gives you a smile.
You smile back at her, “thank you sister”.
“We should get going, we depart in the morning to Asgard.”
You both stand, mount your horses and make your way back to the palace.
That night at the evening meal, mother made sure to tell the servants to serve you less food than usual. She wanted to be sure you were as thin as possible..
You weren’t effected physically but it certainly was embarrassing.
The following morning you were woken up early by your maids to get ready to depart. They do your hair and make up and get you in one of your beautiful day dresses and make your way to meet your family.
You see your family and your mother walks over placing your hand on your face, “you have such a beautiful face daughter.”
You blink at her, “thank you mother.”
Your father walks over to you and brushes his hand on your face, “you are beautiful daughter.”
You give him a small, “thank you father.”
Your sister takes your hand and you look over at her, “everyone ready to go?”
“Yes, let us go”
You and your family board the ship with your guards that you will be taking with you to Asgard. It will take you a few days to get there but you were going to be spending most of the time with your sister or your maids getting ready. Asgard was different from Alfheim so you needed to be sure you were knowledgeable of all of their traditions and customs, you didn’t want to embarrass yourself or your family.
You all finally get to Asgard where you are greeted by the royal family, the Allfather, Allmother and both princes were there with their warriors.
“King Balin, how wonderful it is to see you and your family again.” The Allfather greets your family.
“Allfather, thank you so much for the invitation to your beautiful home” your father then looks over to Thor, “and happy name day to you my prince.”
Thor smiles, “thank you King Balin, Queen Aredhel, Princess Elbereth, Princess y/n, I welcome you to our home.”
Your sister smiles at Thor, “thank you my prince, happy name day to you, we are very much looking forward to your name day feast.”
“Yes my brother looks forward to them as well.” The younger prince speaks up.
You snort  a little laugh and your mother looks over at you sharply.
Queen Frigga addresses the group, “thank you for all traveling, please let us get you settled in your chambers so you all can rest before the feast.”
Your mother looks to the Queen, “thank you Allmother, I look forward to having some time to speak.”
You know what the conversation is going to be about so you glance over at your sister who is looking at the ground.
You all make your way inside the palace, it was beautiful and gold but it was mostly that. Gold and concrete, there weren’t too many trees or greenery in the city. Alfheim even in the marketplaces flourished with flowers and greens from trees and vines that have intwined themselves in the ancient structures. The forests of Alfheim are not far from the palace so you felt constantly surrounded by nature. It was not so here in Asgard.
You get to your chambers and your maids get everything situated for you, you bathed and got dressed in your beautiful but uncomfortable gown for the evening. A knock at the door signified it was time to go so you go with your guards to your sister’s chambers where your parents are already waiting.
“Finally child.” Your mother says exasperated.
“Forgive me mother, this dress is not the easiest to get into.”
“And who’s fault is that?”
“Enough Aredhel, y/n you look wonderful.”
“Thank you father, Elbereth you look beautiful.” You say kindly to your sister.
“Thank you sister as do you. Are your ready for the festivities?”
“Very.”
“Then let us be off” your father says joyously.
You all make your way to the feast hall and Asgards royal family have not arrived yet, you all take your seats at your designated table, not far from the table Odin and Frigga will be sitting with their sons.
Not long after that, the guards announce the arrival of the Allfather and Allmother first and then Prince Loki.
He was so handsome dressed in his finery, he had the same mirthful look on his face he did before. Like he wanted to be anywhere else in all the realms.
And then it was time to announce Prince Thor’s arrival which was just a ridiculous as he was.
The guard shouts from the top of his lungs,
“And now! Prince Thor! First born son of Odin and Frigga, Crowned Prince of Asgard, God of Thunder! Your future King! All of you welcome him on his name day!
The hall erupts in cheers, you wince from the volume. You look over at the table where Prince Loki now sits and you can see him roll his eyes. It seems like he can sense you staring at him so he looks directly at you and gives you a sinful smile. You blink back in nervousness and direct you attention back to Prince Thor making a show of his entrance. He’s walking towards the table tossing Mjolnir in his hand with a huge smile on his face.
He holds out his other arm to silence the crowd, “Asgard! Thank you for joining me in the celebrations for my name day. I also send my thanks to all of the representatives that have visited us from afar to also share this day with me and my family. I thank you from the bottom of my heart, I know some of your journeys were long. Please enjoy all of the finery from our home. Let the feast begin!”
With his final word the doors in the hall opened and out came the servants with mounds of food and casks of wine and mead. So many different types of food and you were terrified to touch a thing. It was like every time you went to add something to your plate you could feel your mother’s eyes on you.
Thor eventually came to our table and asked my sister to dance, she happily accepted and my parents looked on with excitement at the prospect of the crowned prince marrying their daughter.
You were so preoccupied you didn’t notice someone have a seat in your sister’s now unoccupied chair.
“Hello.”
You turn and you are shocked to see Prince Loki.
“Oh. Hello My Prince. Are you enjoying the feast?”
“No more than others, and you Princess y/n? Are you enjoying the feast for my brother’s name day?
You smile, “yes, very much so thank you.”
“Are you enjoying the food and drink? It looks as though you haven’t touched a thing.”
You look down at your plate and realize the Prince is right, you really haven’t touched too much of your food. You were too afraid of the ridicule your mother would bring you after the feast.
“I’m not too hungry at present your highness, but everything I have tasted has been wonderful.”
He squints his eyes at you and then reaches for your fork, “here taste this, it’s my favorite desert.”
He takes a small piece on the fork and holds it out to you, you look over to your mother and see she is distracted talking to Queen Frigga. You look back to the Prince and without breaking eye contact take the bite of cake he offered you.
My God. It was delicious. You honestly wanted a whole piece but you knew you would pay for it later. Whether is be from the pain your mothers words bring you or the pain you feel in your body when you decide to push yourself training and starving yourself to make up for it.
“Thank you my Prince, it certainly is delicious.”
“Dance with me?” He asks you.
“Of..of course..” you were caught by surprise, you never get asked to dance at feasts and when you do it’s because their royal parents forced them to ask you.
Loki stands and holds out his hand to you which you take and make your way to the dance floor.
Thankfully you were taught most of these dances from when you were old enough to follow the steps. Loki moved you across the floor, bowed to you and moved to place his hand on your waist. He was looking directly in your eyes and the attention was making you nervous.
“You look beautiful Princess.”
“Thank you My Prince.”
“I must say the color on you is quite fetching, did you know that green is my royal color.”
Your face brightens.
“No My Prince! I did not mean…”
He starts to laugh, “it’s quite alright my dear, I’m actually quite surprised your mother didn’t put you up to it. Many ladies choose the color of the princes to attempt to catch their eye.”
“Oh My Prince I promise you that was not my intention, you would never…”
“I would never what?”
“My Prince…”
Just as you were about to continue your mother’s voice cuts interrupts you.
“Oh My Prince, thank you so much for dancing with my dear daughter.”
“Thanks are not necessary Queen Aredhel, your daughter looks very beautiful this evening. I simply wanted to ask her for a dance before other suitors created a queue.”
Your mother laughed, “Oh not to worry about that My Prince, my daughter doesn’t catch the eye of too many.”
Your body immediately freezes in shock and you can feel a ball developing in your throat from the tears that no doubt will start to well in your eyes.
“Excuse me..” you whisper and run off to the balcony. You knew you were going to hear about your rude exit from your mother later but you couldn’t find it in you to care. You make it to the balcony outside and you try to take some deep breaths. It was hard because this dress was so fucking tight, you could barely breathe let alone take the deep breaths needed to calm yourself.
You place your hand on the railing gripping it tightly and you close your eyes and let the tears fall.
“Princess?”
You hear Loki behind you.
“My Prince, forgive me, I just needed some air.” You try to dry your face from your tears.
“Hmm….” He walks over to you and leans over on the railing next to you. “So it wasn’t your mothers awful words that made you go running?”
You look over at him.
“No..my mother means well..”
“Don’t lie to me Princess, maybe I should’ve announced my full title like my idiotic brother. I am the God of lies darling, I know when someone tells me a falsehood.”
“I’m sorry My Prince, I do not wish to speak ill of my mother. If you would excuse me I believe I am going to take my leave, I’m not feeling very well.” You really weren’t, your head was pounding and you just wanted to get out of this restricting dress.
“Of course, I will escort you to your chambers.”
“That is not necessary My Prince, I have my maids that can take me.”
“I insist.” He takes your arm and leads you back towards the feast hall, but he stops you just before you walk through the doorway.
“Just a moment.”
He moves so he’s standing in front of you and he grabs your face lightly and whispers a spell, you feel a little tingle on your face.
“So you don’t look like you have been crying sweet girl.” He answers your unasked question.
“Thank you My Prince.”
“Call me Loki…please.” He asks, his hands still holding your face.
“Thank you..” you gulp…. “Loki.”
He smiles at you, “would you like to come to my chambers before you go to your own? I know you said you weren’t feeling well but I would love to spend a little more time with you before you retire. We can enjoy some more of that dessert?…”
Oh boy.
“My Prince…Loki..I don’t know..”
“We can go to your chambers if you’d like, we can even speak in front of one of your lady maids..whatever makes you comfortable. I just…I wish to get to know you more.”
“It’s alright, we can go to your chambers. I will tell my parents we will be going for a walk.”
He winks at you, “mischievous little scamp.”
You both make your way into the feast hall and you see your parents speaking with the Allmother and Allfather.
“My King, My Queen” you curtsy. Thank you so much for the invitation, everything is wonderful.”
Queen Frigga smiles, “of course Princess, we are always honored to have Alfheim come to our realm. You and your sister are a beautiful addition to our court.
“Indeed” Loki agrees, “mother, father, King Balin, Queen Aredhel with your permission I wish to take the Princess y/n for a walk. Possibly to the palace gardens.”
Queen Aredhel looked genuinely surprised, “of course Prince Loki! I’m sure my daughter would be happy to.”
You nod at Loki and you both leave the presence of your families to walk out the feast hall.
Next thing you know, Loki sends an illusion of the two of you one direction while you really walk in the opposite direction.
“The gardens are that way, they will know we went elsewhere if we went the true direction of my chambers.”
It wasn’t so far away from the hall but far enough you can’t hear the loudness of the people celebrating any longer.
Loki opens his doors when we arrived and escorts you inside and you are taken aback by his beautiful room. Again, a lot of gold. And lots and lots of green.
“Your chambers are beautiful.”
“Thank you y/n. Is it alright if I call you y/n?”
“If it is alright for me to call you by your first name you can certainly call me by mine.”
He smiles at you and walks with you to his private dining room. He pulls out a chair for you to sit and the idea of it kinda fills you with dread. The dress becoming painful, you move to step forward and all of a sudden the room starts to spin and you lose your footing. You fall forward but Loki catches you before you make impact with the floor.
“Are you alright?”
You breathing is a little labored as he sits you down in a chair.
“I think this dress is trying to kill me, I’m sorry my Prince I should really go to my chambers.”
You then feel that same tingling feeling you felt from his magic on your face earlier all over your body. Instead of the big uncomfortable gown you wore to the feast you were now in a light dress made of the finest silk.
Your hands immediately fly to cover your now free stomach, it’s not being held in anymore by the girdle your mother forced you to wear.
Embarrassment filling you again you stand up from the chair ready to run out of his room.
“I’m sorry My Prince I must leave.”
“Y/n wait! Please! What is it?”
“I do not wish you to see me dressed so.”
“Is the dress not to your liking? I can create another one more to your taste..”
“It’s not that My Prince, the dress is beautiful..I’m just not..a person who looks like me shouldn’t dress in something like this.”
“What do you mean?”
“Do I really have to say it?”
“Yes because I am throughly confused, you look beautiful.”
“You’re very sweet My Prince..”
“I thought we decided on no titles.” He sits you down in the chair again and removes your arms that are wrapped around your middle. “Darling girl, do not let your mothers words poison your mind. You are beautiful.”
“I’m not my sister, or the other ladies in court..”
“I agree, you are far more interesting.”
“Loki please..you and I both know my physical appearance is different from other ladies, they are tall and thin and I am neither of those things.”
“Is that why you hardly touched your food for the evening?”
You didn’t respond, you just look down at you lap.
You hear his chair scrape against the floor as he gets up, he pulls you to your feet.
“I don’ t believe we got to finish our dance.” He holds out his hand to you and he brings you to your feet.
You feel much better now that awful gown was off of you and you were able to easily move around the floor with Loki. The lack of music made it a little awkward but the gesture alone was sweet enough.
Not too long after you started your sweet slow dance Loki stops and looks down at you.
“May I kiss you my lady?”
You only had a moment of hesitation and then you nod your head. You never thought you would be asked to be kissed by such a handsome prince. With your permission, Loki leans in and kisses you. Softly at first and then he moves your arms so they are around his neck and he deepens the kiss.
Soon you are a moaning mess, releasing sinful sounds into his mouth. He just tasted so delicious, like that cake he had you try earlier and sweet wine.
He stops kissing you and looks down at you again, “my lady I’m afraid if we don’t stop here I will continue to ravish you.”
“Oh please my prince, ravish away!”
He lets out a loud laugh, “y/n I do not wish to do something you are not ready for…I can imagine you are still a maiden?”
“No..there was a soldier who I…I didn’t believe anyone would ever want to bed me so I just..I…” you’re stuttering, your embarrassment coming off of you in waves.
“Hush darling, no judgment here. In fact I am most pleased, this means I don’t have to be so careful with you”.
You didn’t know how to respond, no one had ever showed this type of attraction to you before, even the soldier who took your maidenhead made it seem like he was just trying to get through it as quickly as possible.
Loki takes you in his arms and lifts you effortlessly off the floor and carries you to the bedroom placing you on the bed.
You’re amazed by how strong he is.
“May I remove your dress darling?”
“Can I maybe leave it on?…you ask looking down at your lap again.
“Why darling?”
“I just..Loki I’m not like the other ladies you have had in your bed and I..I don’t wish for this to end.”
You still haven’t looked up at him, you see his feet now directly in front of you, “y/n look at me.”
You lift your head miserably to look him in the eye.
“You are beautiful. I have been dying to see your body all evening..please?”
After a moment you decide to let him remove your dress, you hope he still feels the same after he sees whats underneath.
You stand at the foot of the bed and pull the silk dress over your head, revealing your body underneath.
He looks at you up and down and when you were about to bend down to pick up your dress and leave he stops you and his hands move. One to cradle your face and the other goes behind you on your lower back to pull you closer to him.
“You are stunning darling, now…get on the bed.”
You feel your core clench at his words, you can also feel your juices already starting to leak down your leg.
You get on his bed and lay on your back, he removes his dress armor and climbs on top of you. Once he reaches your face he kisses you soundly, all teeth and tongue. He wanted you that was clear.
After you had been kissing for a while you could feel Loki’s cock brushing against your entrance, he starts rubbing you with purpose with it so he can get all of your arousal on him. He breaks away breathless from the kiss, “are you ready darling?”
“Yes! Gods yes!”
He slowly breaches you, he was much bigger than the soldier you shared a bed with so it took a moment to get adjusted to his size. But when you did…the pleasure you felt was remarkable. It almost made you sad because you knew that this would likely be the only time in your life you would feel such blinding pleasure.
“Y/n..you’re so tight..mmhmm..fuck you feel glorious…”
He pushes into you harshly a few times and then stops and pulls out of you quickly.
“I want you to ride me.”
“What? No Loki please.. I do not wish to..”
He looks down at you for a moment, “why darling?”
Your eyes start to well with tears again, “please Loki, I do not wish for you to see my body so..”
He kisses your tears away and then continues to kiss you until your body relaxes again.
“Darling girl, how many times must I say that you are beautiful? Will you trust me?..please?”
You don’t answer him so he quickly wraps you in his arms and moves so that he is on his back and you are now straddling him.
“Oh yes my girl, this is the view I have been dying to see all night.”
He reaches up and grabs your large breasts, squeezing and massaging them.
“Come darling lift up a little for me so I can feel your glorious heat again, I find myself missing your hot pussy.”
He helps you lift up slightly and you sit on his cock, slowly bringing yourself down all the way filling yourself with his large manhood.
“Fuckkk…oh darling you feel so good…”
“Fuck Loki, yesss..” you start to move your hips slowly, not entirely sure what you’re doing.
Loki starts to help you pick up the pace, he places his hands underneath your ass and helps you move up and down on his cock.
“Yes..y/n yes..just like that…fuck…”
His words giving you more confidence and you start to move quicker and harder, Loki is a moaning mess under you and the sounds he is making are bringing you closer and closer to your orgasm.
“Loki I’m so close….oh Gods…oh Valhalla!!”
“Valhalla cannot have you yet darling, not until I have had my fill of you.”
He flips you over and proceeds to rapidly pummel into you, his cock hitting just the right spot over and over again making you see stars.
“Loki!! Loki!! I’m cumming!”
“Gods darling yess…say my name again..I want the whole palace to know who is giving you this pleasure. Say it…”
“Loki!! Fuck!!! Loki!!!” You cum so hard you can only make out the sounds of his skin slapping against yours and then his own screams of pleasure.
“Y/N! Oh fuck..I’m going to cum in your hot pussy…do you want that darling? Do you want me to fill you?”
“Yes Loki! Please cum inside me!”
“Fuck!” He pushes in one final time and stills, you can feel his cum shoot inside of your womb.
You were completely spent..
Loki rolls off of you and pulls you into his arms.
“I will not hear of you speaking about yourself in such a way again..do you understand?”
“Yes my prince…”
“Y/n..look at me.”
You do and you see nothing but kindness in his eyes.
“You are mine now, you will no longer feel the inadequacies your mother has forced you to feel all of your life. You are beautiful…do you understand?”
“Yes Loki..thank you..”
“There is nothing to thank me for love..do you wish to bathe with me?”
“A bath sounds wonderful.”
With that he gives you a light kiss, rises out of bed and walks over to your side. He once again lifts your effortlessly in his arms to take you into the bathing chambers no doubt to add to this already unforgettable night.
The end..
A Court of Mischief and Purpose, Chapter Seventeen (Loki x fem! Reader Hiddlesverse Crossover Miniseries)
Tumblr media
Series Summary: Based on Sarah J Mass's A Court of Thorns and Roses series with the Tom Hiddleston characters. You are a woman of 1880's in Aldwinter in Essex, England, dying of tuberculosis. Never to be married to the local Lusty Vicar. When Loki appears to you and offers to heal you...if you spend a week of every month with him
Chapter Summary: You have returned to Aldwinter. And begin to set plans for your revenge on Will.
Word Count: 6K
Warnings: Some spicy stuff but no actual smut (please forgive me, the chapters in this fic are long enough), mentions of cheating and portraying Will's cheating as bad I am very blatantly against the Will/Cora pairing in The Essex Serpent and it shows so if you like either character or the pairing, you have been warned. Mentions of sex and religion and violence and abandonment. Supporting Women's Wrongs.
A/N: Thanks to @muddyorbsblr for the brilliant ideas about how Reader could get her long due revenge and the great suggestions!
Also,
Happy New Years Eve! Instead of going to clubs and drinking and partying or being invited to a party, I'm spending it editing fanfiction. So this is to all of you out there who too feel a little lonely like me and like you should be out there doing partying and "normal" things...you aren't the only one, and I'm sending you a hug.
I hope you enjoy the start of the "next" season of Court after that cliffhanger! Leave a comment or reblog or send me an ask or dm if you especially liked it! Happy 2024!
You could still recall your wedding with Loki.
It was night. The moons shone above. Stars sprinkled across the sky as people laughed and went out to restaurants and taverns. They weren’t the ones about to find a cauldron. They could go on in ignorance and always in safety.
But your own pulse was picking up as you held Loki’s hand. Excitement and nervousness.
You both walked into a temple, a building with a garland of roses over the door. For even gods still needed worshippers. Inside, there were two priests going about. An old man and a younger man in fine golden robes swept the floors. The younger one turned and gasped, tugging the sleeve of his sage.
They recognized Loki and both bowed.
“Ah, great prince and god of mischief, what brings you here?” the older one asked.
“I want you to marry us!” Loki announced.
Their jaws dropped, and the brown eyes of the old man grew large.
“Without the…the consent of the AllFather?” the older priest asked.
“No- I do not need it. I am not a child anymore. I am a man grown and this is the woman I want to marry.” Loki said, gesturing to you.
You walked over and placed a hand on his chest as he wrapped an arm around you.
“This is one order I give you, both as god and prince- Perform a marriage between me and Y/N. The Jotun Prophet says she is my True Love- always shall be. Don’t break the True Love Bond. Perform a marriage ceremony. I’ll reward you handsomely if you do.”
They relented. The Older Priest led you both to the large altar in the next room. It had a tall statue of Frigga smiling with outstretched hands from her gown’s sleeves. Firewood was brought to make a nice kindling blaze in the fireplace from the younger priest to the fireplace in the room.
The older priest gestured you both to You walked around it to the wooden table placed right before the statue. It was covered in runes in its tan wood. There was a small dagger, a cornucopia, and a tall, white candle that the elder priest lit with fire from the fireplace. The younger priest stood to bear witness, as well as holding a spare marriage contract for you both.
“The AllMother might feel a slight twinge in the air tomorrow, for marriage is part of her realm. But yet…if you are certain, then you are certain. Any last things you would like before we begin?” asked the older priest.
“It feels a little more like a lamb is about to be sacrificed than a wedding,” you shyly commented, for the Christian weddings of home were more what you were used to.
“The AllMother doesn’t like offerings of lamb!!” laughed the older priest.
“Here- let me make it more decorated, then,” Loki offered.
With a flick of his hand, there were flowers everywhere. Soft roses in bloom, their perfume a gentle caress in the air. They decorated the statue and the altar. Flower crowns were placed on the two priests, much to their amusement.
“Should I go back home and get that lacy bustle dress then? I know it’s your favorite” you teased Loki.
He gave you a small laugh, then lifted his hand and flicked it in the air.
Golden light came down from over your heads, he gave himself rich green robes with gold armor plates over his shoulders Both a prince and a groom.
You looked as the magic went over you and your clothes transformed on your body. You were given a long dress that was a soft blush pink to compliment his green. It shimmered when light touched it. It showed your shoulders but the sleeves were so long they draped to the floor, the way that a few of the queen’s dresses did. For that was what a woman of royalty wore. The bodice made a heart shape over your chest. On your head was a long veil that went down your back and onto the floor of sheer material, forming a beautiful train melting into a lacelike pattern. It made you look like you floated.
You smiled up at him.
“It’s beautiful, thank you!” you gasped.
Loki smiled, then nodded at the priest for him to begin.
You clasped hands. There was a prayer and some milk poured into a bowl and placed at the feet of the statue as an offering to Frigga..Loki conjured daggers for you both to trade, symbolizing how you would protect each other.
“Now, make your vows to each other,” signaled the Priest.
Loki held your hands. Though the priest whispered the words in his ear, he repeated it with sincerity.
"I, Loki, do swear before the AllFather and AllMother, take you to be my wife, my friend, my lover, and my companion. From this day until only death do us part. I pledge you my fidelity, refusing all others as long as we live. My softest words and tenderest embraces. I shall choose to respect you and choose to love you. In my bed and on my table. In battle and in peace. In sickness and in health. In joy and in sorrow. Day and night. From this hour, as long as we both live."
You took his hands and repeated what the priest whispered into your ear.
“I, Y/N, do swear before the AllFather and AllMother, to take you to be my husband, My friend, my lover, and my companion. From this day until death do us part. I pledge you my fidelity, refusing all others as long as we live. My softest words and tenderest embraces. I shall choose to respect you and choose to love you. In my bed and on my table. In battle and in peace. In sickness and in health. In joy and in sorrow. Day and night. From this hour, as long as we both live."
Then Loki’s magic brought up the ring- the very one you won from the Weaver’s cottage.
“That was why the Weaver thought I earned it…even she knew…” you wondered.
“She’s a matchmaker then, who knew,” Loki teased.
Loki placed it gently around your finger. He conjured a ring that you slipped through his finger.
There was a final prayer and chant. The younger priest brought forth the document which you both signed.
“Now seal it with a kiss- and all the nine realms shall consider you husband and wife,” announced The Older Priest.
You did, happily. Embracing each other and locking lips. They both smiled and applauded. Loki paid them generously with a conjured bag of coin.
You both were still holding hands as you hurried home. Your wedding gown and his shoulder plates glowing in the moonlight.
With the crowds around Asgard, you could slip by unnoticed. But you were smiling. He was red-cheeked, almost running and pulling you with him until you picked up your skirt and met his pace. You ran together back home at an equal speed. The thrill of being married at last soaring in your hearts.
You got home in your finery, clutching hands happily. At the entrance, no one came to meet you. The guards simply allowed you through, never asking questions.
“Husband…” you teased, tasting the word. Placing a hand on his warm chest. His eyes went big.
“In the older times, a marriage isn’t considered legal until it is consummated. Is Asgard…like that?” you asked with a slight giggle in your voice.
Loki took his hands around your waist.
“Better safe than sorry, then,” he agreed.
He scooped you easily into his arms and carried you right into his chambers. Taking you onto his green bed and laying you down.
He crawled on top of you and kissed you. Desire burned between your legs as he let in some of his tongue and touched your face, pulling you close. Hands greedily running down your body. Giggling you rolled over so he laid down and you were on top. The veil shimmered as it fell from your head into a melted, sparkly puddle on the floor. He let out a small gasp of surprise but laughed it off, his ivory face below you, his beautiful black curls splayed across the bed.
‘Now that we are wed, I’m going to make my wife scream with pleasure on our wedding night. And every night after that.”
His hands went to your hips, gripping the flesh beneath the cloth. You set yours on his broad shoulders.
“First I’ll have to spare your stallion and ride you instead!” you whispered.
“I love you, my wife… and princess,” he voiced.
“I love you too- prince and husband,” you said.
You began to grind him as he undid his own leather trousers. Then you pulled up your long skirts and began to sink onto his-
“O God, whose blessed Son was manifested that He might destroy the works of the devil and make us the children of God and heirs of eternal life:...”
The vicar’s voice broke you out of your memories.
That was just the past. And here you were in a familiar scene. The memory is still warm in your body though you were back in that sterile church.
“Grant us, we beseech thee, that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves even as he is pure…’ Will continued to intone, signaling the beginning of the service.
You were sitting dutifully on the front row next to your parents. Just as you did for a long time. You were back home in Aldwinter, but you did not feel like the same lovesick girl counting down the days to her wedding and smiling up at the vicar with love and even restrained lust.
No, you kept your eyes down to the checkered floor, hands positioned to pray. You wore a dark-colored dress, but you were not in mourning. You would paint the picture of piety and repentance here. Still aware of the eyes still on you. Of the gossip.
“She left our respectable rector for that god. Yet she’s back here and - bless him, he loves her! He’s going to marry Y/N anyway despite all of that! Despite her being ruined. Despite her betrayal,” was what they were whispering in their pews and parlors.
‘They got it wrong as to who ultimately betrayed who. Twice.’ you thought. But you held back that part of you in your head. It was rather talkative lately, but you knew better than to utter a word of your true thoughts.
You looked about. There was the old chandelier that hung up with unlit candles. You wondered how they stayed on. What would happen if one were to fall? Would it hit someone?
To your amusement, you realized one hung over where Will was standing. You wished you could make a candle fall to hit him on the curly auburn head. It would have been funny, even the congregation would laugh. But you didn’t.
It deserved to be a knife aimed at his skull instead.
Everyone kept their heads down, though sometimes a pair of eyes would meet yours.
You were back. You told them- your family, old friends, and neighbors- little of what happened. As far as they knew, you were enchanted. But the spell was broken. Yhat you were returned safely- to pray, repent, and process all that happened with Loki…
And sometimes you did. The things you never imagined you would see or do when you went to Asgard. You thought you would live a plain little life in a plain little town and that you were content to do so. Did they know that you learned how to wield swords and daggers? That you were blessed with magic? Of the people you met from other worlds and timelines and planets? Stole belongings or helped in their stealing? Escaped death multiple times? Fought? Even killed? That you found new friendships with queens, princes, and warrior women? Seen aliens? Been to a ball? Met gods and learned to love one and was even married to him?
Now- here you were. In your old clothes and old church. Did those grand adventures even happen at all?
You knew they did.
There were a few extra faces in the pews. For some in town were surprised by an influx of men who built small houses and stayed nearby. Some women were thrilled for a bunch of new bachelors and hoped for marriage with one of them. They all said they were part of a construction company and factory that was nearby…when really they were of Grendel’s army. Bullies and monsters, all of them. And it was none other than Will who agreed with Grendel to let them stay in the town…if Grendel got you back here to him.
Will’s sermon continued as normal. He seemed happy as he began to discuss Paul’s book of Romans. Once you would have sat up in rapt attention. But you could hardly pay attention to it anymore. He seemed like a ghost in his long white robes. He wore a long blue sash draping down his shoulders trimmed with gold with symbols on the ends. He smiled brightly as he stood before the congregation, folding his hands so they disappeared from his robe’s sleeves.
You heard the voice of your husband through the bond.
'I’m going to kill him,' Loki said clearly in your head.
'Not yet,' you replied.
'I’m going to get out my dagger, and stab him right where he is.'
'Loki, please, don't'
'Then I’m ripping a portal to this church, slinging you over my shoulder, and carrying my wife out of this place. Right. Now.'
'Loki, I wish you could- but consider: they're watching. The whole town is watching and not just now! Everyone is obsessed and looking for you. My parents keep the doors to the house locked except for when I go on my daily walk. Everyone has purchased a weapon. They’re searching like madmen for you in Aldwinter. It’s not safe for you to just barge in.'
Now people discussed the Trickster god who kidnapped and ravished women more than the Serpent that was just a dead whale. They searched everywhere. Children played games and whispered about him. One thought they saw him in the woods. Another thought they saw him in the marshes. People kept close eyes on their daughters- he took first you, then Stella twice, and who knew which lady would be next?
One day, there was a rowboat on the river in town. It nearly ran into another rowboat. And no fishing nets were inside.
“What are you out here for?” one rowman asked.
“Lookin’ for the Trickster god! He was sighted here, wasn’t he?” answered the other boat’s first rowman.
“Blast it, not if I find and shoot him first!” said another rowman from the other boat.
‘But, my dear pet-’ Loki continued to sigh.
‘No- I don’t want you to. Besides, even if you could quickly get me out, I don’t want to leave yet…not without seeing to it that Will is punished’ you sent to him.
'You do deserve revenge, Loki agreed “So I should turn into a cat again, trot up to him purring, and then jump out and stab him.'
'Loki, it is a habit of men to avenge women they love who were wronged. It is in many stories- it is always the woman who suffers and dies horribly because of a villain’s sins and it is not her, but the man who is allowed to live to avenge her. Those writers don’t understand we ladies are perfectly capable of exacting our own revenges. I would like to do it. I am the person Reverend Ransome has wronged most of all. If anyone should do the stabbing, it should be me.'
'Then get a knife and throw it towards him in church!' Loki suggested.
'No! He will duck and it shall be me who goes into jail and shall be killed, not him. I can’t just murder him willy-nilly and with no certain escape or sanctuary. I must be careful with this if I am to get away with it.'
Part of you was impressed by him. Making a deal for your safe return at least, done by a man whose heart couldn’t be settled on one woman. You were keeping your simmering rage at bay. You took a look at the church, you noticed the walls that seemed blue-green in the overcast sky when they were really white. The light brown pews and the table with a tall wooden cross on it with two candles between. The three chandeliers. The two windows that overlooked everyone were like eyes.
When you burned Aldwinter to the ground, the church would be first.
No, no you couldn’t. Why should so many innocent people suffer because of one man’s decisions? You had to figure out how to exact revenge on the reverend Will Ransome, in a way that would affect him and only him. And in a way that no one would suspect it was you.
The service continued on as normal. Though you were always in a half-sleepy, silent daze now instead of at attention, doing every repetition of prayers and singing each hymn and crossing yourself soberly.
Sunday evening, as always, a nice dinner was made for Will, your fiancee and guest. It was as if the letter you wrote to him ending things was never sent.
It was the same picture. Everyone sitting down in your house. Napkins draped across laps as forks and knives clinked with plates. The smell of the meal wafting- your mother’s roast with salad and bread and potatoes. Laughter and chatter.
You would make a smile appear on your face, eating politely and quietly.
Then your father made one clap and rubbed his hands, looking at you and Will.
“Now- let us discuss the wedding! Do you have a date selected, my dears?” he asked.
“We have discussed about the wedding a little more…” Will began.
‘But I’m already married,’ you thought, glancing down at the emerald ring always on your finger.
Then again, Will wasn’t known for respecting the boundaries of marriage.
The Lusty Vicar placed a hand over yours and held it.
“We will reschedule the wedding for next month,” Will suggested. His blue eyes shined to you. “Then, my angel, I shall finally call you my wife.”
‘I would rather the Serpent become real and devour me,’ you thought.
“It shall be lovely,” you replied with a small smile.
“We shall have a wedding- free of interruptions and no sickness and no spells. It shall be simpler, mind you- we all know how much the first one cost,” your mother added.
“A big wedding doesn’t matter as long as it’s with a good man who truly loves you,” you commented.
Will again looked at you softly. He spoke with a smoothness, almost a seductive tone, like when he proposed to you. Not caring the others were there. In fact, they enjoyed it.
“It was God who told me you were to be my bride, Y/N.”
‘But God didn’t tell me.’ you thought. You only looked up at him and smiled.
“And we shall spend our lives fulfilling His word together,” he continued.
‘Did God also tell you to stick your fingers up Cora’s-’
“Oh, how beautiful! To see you finally married off to this godly, lovely man!” your mother sighed out loud.
“I am the happiest woman in Essex, ” you replied.
He kissed your hands and left back home.
“Y/N, now that you are a parsonage bride, be sure to attend to your duties at the church tomorrow. You must become used to them,” your mother reminded you.
One idea hit you. A small step.
Revenge you realized, was similar to cooking or baking. When one has a recipe, there are all sorts of small ingredients to gather, steps to take, and things to measure and mix. Small steps. They don’t seem like much at first, but bit by bit, they became something bigger, grander.
“Yes, mother. I shall,” you replied dutifully.
The next afternoon, the church was empty. Only Will and a few others planning out events in the meeting room. You had to help keep it tidy and check plans for Sunday School, for you were now going to join as another volunteer teacher for the children. As you looked over the lesson plans with the other teachers, you reached out your powers through your gifts. Searching. Would they be where they were last…
They reached his office. To what was under his desk.
No box. And no personal mail.
The letters from Cora were not in his office, you realized. That would take some searching.
But another thing was near his office- the church treasury kept in a safe in the next room.
Another step to your revenge.
One of the benefits of being a vicar was that while a clergyman received some of the tithes, a vicar got all of them.
Of course, some of it went to support his own church and ministry as well as put bread on the table. Will was probably discussing the budget with them from the Sunday tithes.
Finishing the Sunday School lesson planning was done.
Your senses told you the room with the safe was empty.
The old woman who taught the children’s Sunday school chattered on. Usually, women could teach children and other women. It was rare for a woman to teach a Sunday School class that included men. You got up. Saying you were going to get a glass of water and to wait for the Reverend, excuse me.
No one was in the hall. You quickly hurried in, your steps soft. To not click on the floors. Your powers unlocked the door and you stepped in. The plain brown room with a plain grey safe.
Quickly, your senses managed to unlock it. Opening up to numerous checks and huge wads of cash and coins in baskets.
You got out a few things of cash. Taking off your shoe, you slipped it beneath your foot and then retied it on. You then locked it back. Quickly walking away. You went over to the church kitchens to get your glass of water and sip on it in one of the parlors, your eyes down in innocence.
When you got home, you sat down in your chair, claiming you were tired and needed to rest. You looked at the blue gloves you had been knitting recently. Your eyes focused, your powers embracing it. You let it rip open and then reattach, sewn back together easily.
You removed your shoes and got out the cash.
You took the money and placed it in a blank envelope. Oh, how you wished you could recreate handwriting! Then you would forge Will signing it! But you could not, as much as you practiced. That would have given you away.
So at night, when no one was around, no one walking the streets, you briefly slipped the letter under your door. Then you went back to continue to knit more gloves as your parents read.
'Move' you commanded the letter silently.
And it did- it began to drift through the dirt road. You sensed where Mrs. Seaborne resided and directed the letter there as it floated through the ground as if a breeze moved it.
'Go to her house, slip it under the door,' you commanded it.
Quietly as a firefly. It located the house of a certain widow and slipped it under the door.
Your parents then said you would have to read the Bible more, to prepare for your marriage, and gave you a new copy they had bought. You turned to the Old Testament book of Judges and silently read some as they continued their own post-dinner activities by candlelight.
You poured over one story in that book. There was once a tyrant named Sisera who had long oppressed the Hebrew people. After his army lost a decisive battle with the Hebrew forces, he fled like a coward. He discovered a tent where who should be there, but only an ordinary housewife named Jael. She knew what he had done. She let Sisera have her food and sleep there as a guest, promising him that he was safe. Then as he slept, she got out a tent peg and killed him by hammering it through his skull.
You wondered why there weren’t more sermons discussing Jael. Why many never even spoke of her. Or perhaps even knew of her.
So every day you sat, sewed, obeyed your parents and fiancee, and prayed and bided your time. You had to seem like Jael- an innocent, dutiful, pleasant woman who would only do what was asked of her. Then, when the time was right, you would drive the peg through the skull of your Sisera.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ─── Will loved to take long walks in the mornings. Especially through the fields, the forests, and by the sea. You realized each day you sensed him. They were like clockwork-mid morning after breakfast. Then he would go out for at least an hour. If not two.
That would be the perfect time to find the letters.
The next morning, you said you were out to walk and take care of some errands. Your parents thought nothing of it but wished you well. You walked out.
You walked into the town and through. Careful that none were watching you. You knew where it was. You had been there one night before.
There it was- the tall white house, the vicarage. There was a large, plain backyard save for the little house made of sticks for the dog to sometimes rest in.
The dog was already outside, leased to the house for safety as his keeper was out. The sweet, brown terrier. He went up to you, wagging his tail, for he knew you. You got him little treats of bread from your pocket that you fed to him, so he would be happy and not bark up a storm. No more than what would alert any passerbyes. After petting him for some time, you got back up to go to the vicarage.
Your powers unlocked the door and you went inside. Now you weren’t as clouded with emotion, you could look about the place.
It was light tan wood on the inside. There was a kitchen with an empty table and vase. A little fireplace. A parlor by the windows with cushions where one could watch the outside.
It was a large house. The right size for a man who was expected to start a family.
You turned past one door, peeking inside, and you saw a bedroom. A large blue bed, neatly made.
To think, that was where the wedding night that never happened would have taken place…
Then you continued, you felt odd. Nostalgic for something you never experienced…a life you never lived, had wanted to live, and in a way, still wanted to live.
There was his study. The wallpaper on it was green, full of vines, leaves, flowers, and even birds all over. Beautiful and elaborate. There was a window where sunlight poured through the window over his desk sat. Looking out to the countryside outside. There was an oil lamp where one just turned and there it was. So many papers and journals on his desk, yet in neat piles. But most impressive in his room were the bookshelves. His study was almost a library in itself- tall bookshelves. Full of books, more than you could name. It was likely they all were books of theology or even history or anything having to do with his ministry and studies.
You looked about, pausing and smelling the musk of the place. The beautiful wallpaper. The impressive collection of books.
You could almost feel it like wearing an old shirt- the life you once had. A life that was also within your grasp again. A life where you would live in this house as Mrs. Ransome.
To sit in that bed knitting next to him as he read. To sleep beside him and with him. To fulfill your marital duties at night with quiet passion. A life where you planned the activities the children would do in Sunday school on your kitchen table. Sew up white angel costumes for the Christmas pageant every year. To go and stand by his side helping to bring out alms on a day of charity.
Sweeping and scrubbing all day instead of intense physical training. No worries about Grendel, but of making sure the dinner would be warm when he got home.
One where you would gather flowers from your garden to plop into that vase, making them look nice. A life where you would fix tea and lemon biscuits, and deliver them on a tray to him in his study as he wrote his next sermon. To give it to him and he would smile up from his papers. A life where you would sit by the fire sewing, discussing whatever sermon was coming up next with him as he made notes. Plan recipes for the newest church dinner or picnic coming up and talk to him about who was making what. Picking pastel wallpaper for a certain special room in the future for both of you. Holding hands in the middle of services.
No quests, adventures, or fighting. A quiet life, a domestic, peaceful life. A life you could no longer have. A life no longer accessible -and a life you knew you could no longer let yourself want.
Your powers reached and you found you were correct in your suspicions.
The second desk drawer on the left side. The locked one.
Your powers unlocked it and it jiggled open. There inside were letters. The love letters from Cora to the Lusty Vicar.
Because he wasn’t known as the Faithful Vicar.
Though it made your heart race and your stomach turn, you picked up the letters and began to skim through some of them. You couldn’t take all of them or he would be immediately suspicious. You had to select only a limited number of them- so they had to be the most damning ones.
You turned past one discussing the Serpent to a piece of paper with Will’s handwriting on it. A draft of a letter to respond to her.
“I apologize for not writing, there was too much to say. I cannot think straight around you. I love you, Cora.”
Love- Love! He was sure it was love! You noticed the rest of it was full of scribbled-out words.
Then you found the next one from Cora. Two words in it stood out to you and nearly made you drop the paper.
“Come quickly.”
She was asking Will to leave you for her! The shock made the letter tremble in your hands and your vision went dizzy at the edges.
“Come quickly.”
Your mind then raced, imagined, as minds do… spiraling further in its self-destructive cycle of imagination. Will told you he wouldn’t leave you…he also said he loved you. Said that he still loved you…
“Come quickly.”
What if you already married Will…and he ran off with Cora?
You imagined the scene.
You could see it already in this house. You would be doing your daily duties humming a cheerful song. Refreshing the vase in the kitchen with flowers. Planning ingredients for dinner.
The day turned to evening…and realizing he was taking longer with his church duties than normal. Wondering if something happened. Already missing him as you dusted off the countertops. Full of happy memories of him in your earlier days of marriage. The light brown kitchen where he’d lay a gentle hand on your shoulder in fondness as you stirred the soup. The doorways you teased that he was too tall for. Looking through the dinner you were going to make that night.
Panic bubbled lightly as the sun dipped down and the day became night.
You would finally wander into his study. The light shining orange from his lamp…. There, on the table was a letter addressed to you from him. You would reach for it and read it.
“My dear wife, I am in love with Cora Seaborne. I cannot think straight around her…with her, there is too much to say. I am going with her. I ask for your blessing. I will make sure you are taken care of. Thank you, for your dear blessing on us and for our love.” Will.”
And enclosed were several bills of cash money.
For he knew a married woman could not submit a check at the bank, then the money would go to her husband.
And now, your husband was gone.
The utter shock. Rereading it to make sure it was real, that this nightmare was real. The rage. The tears. The brokenness washing over you. How you would shake. Holding onto his desk for support. Until your legs gave out- how you would collapse, sobbing. Those three little words that would feel like a kick over and over: “for our love.”
Then, you would wander into another room—the pastel one. For by now, there would likely be an occupant.
A little baby in a cradle.
A nursery decorated with the theme of Noah’s Ark. A painting of the wooden boat and of doves with twigs in their beaks on the wall. Full of little animal toys going two by two. Specially decorated for this child’s arrival.
To look down at the little infant in its cradle. So lovingly swaddled safe and warm. A child who was half you and half Will.
On one hand, perhaps it would be worse if he took the child with him. A child you would never know if you would see again, for a husband could deny his wife access to their children. The law saw the child as Will’s, not yours.
And he already found a new replacement, a new wife for him, and a new mother to this child.
It was as if you never mattered in the first place.
But now, the child would be babbling and looking around. Then it would burst into tears, for it missed the cradling arms of its father. You would shush it and try to rock it. Call their name, sing a lullaby in a broken, crying voice, and kiss their forehead- the last reminder of Will you’d always have by you.
To think, once this child was old enough, you would have to look them in the eye and explain why Papa wasn’t around like the other Papas were with their children, even if Papa was a priest. That Papa loved Mama…but he wasn’t in love with Mama.
How you would cradle that child to your chest, walking through the rain, the letter in your pocket. Trudging to your parents home in the middle of a rainstorm in the night. Knocking on the door. They’d open. Seeing a sobbing baby and a sobbing mother.
To tell them what happened. You couldn’t imagine what they would say, would do. They wouldn’t have the heart to even turn you down. But perhaps people would talk.
Maybe you didn’t cook as well. Maybe you were mad and had to be sent to an asylum. Maybe you weren’t as pretty as Cora. Or as interesting or clever. Maybe you didn’t pleasure Will enough in his bed and the Lusty Vicar had to be satiated somehow.
You would not be able to file a divorce. A husband who had an affair and now abandoned you was not the legal grounds for a wife to divorce a husband.
In the eyes of both God and the Law, you were still William Ransome’s wife.
Now…you had to stay married to him until only Death did you part or he decided to initiate a divorce. Even though you were the upright, godly, proper vicar’s wife…the law would not be on your side. Not as a woman.
To wait. For envelopes that had letters- and especially money. To live at the mercy of those envelopes. Hoping the cash would be enough. For food, for warm clothes for your child- no his child, for by the law, the child belonged to the father, not the mother. The humiliation, the pain, the loneliness.
All because Will and Cora were in love.
And all because a stupid whale carcass was what brought them together in the first place!
You wanted to take that lamp that sat at his desk and throw it at the wall until it shattered into a million pieces. You wanted to tear at that letter. Topple the bookshelves and rip apart every last book that belonged to Father William Ransome. Do every violent thing to destroy that room in a rage. To run to Cora’s house armed with a cane like what men and old people used to walk with. For it was she who wrote that letter in the first place. Ready to beat the tar out of her until she-
But no…that wasn’t real. That didn’t happen. This was real, you reminded yourself. You were just sitting in his office with shaking hands.
‘I am not the Unwanted Wife of Aldwinter…I am the Princess of Asgard. Loki loves me, he says I’m beautiful, that I am enough for him- that I am great and awe-inspiring…he is who matters now. I am. Beautiful, powerful, and dangerous. I have the Aesir people, the servants of the palace, the warriors, and the army and legion of Asgard at my disposal- and I shall strike into Will and Cora until they plead for the mercy I will never give them,’ you reminded yourself.
Your senses reached out again and you found old documents from when Will was granted the vicarage and position. You memorized the names of those who appointed him. You searched thoroughly until you found papers with the address of the seminary that appointed him. Taking a scrap piece of paper on the desk and his pen, you wrote their names, as well name of their building and its address. You wrote it down and then hid it in your stocking.
And you had to hurry- what if he decided to return soon? Your senses told you he was still walking outside…but you would not tempt fate.
Taking in a shaky breath, you returned the draft of his letter- you could take it. But if it was missing, he would suspect something was afoot. You set the draft down.
You planned to take two to damn Will. Instead, you took three love letters- including the “come quickly” letter. For she was going to be punished already as harshly as he.
You stuffed them into the pockets of your skirt.
You promptly left the vicarage back to town, taking a path that made it less suspicious you came directly from there.
You did a little grocery shopping, and returned, saying you had to walk to clear your head- you had a nightmare last night. About Loki. You poured a few tears and they fixed you some tea in consolation, telling you that your enchantment and the dreadful act of warming his bed was all over.
Then, once you were alone in your room, You took out the letters from your clothes and hid them your copy of The Tenant of Wildfell Hall, which you kept firmly in your personal bookshelf.
They were ingredients left to simmer until boiling. You had the evidence and the first address to send one to. You now had to figure out where to send the other two to bring them down.
The Switching Gamble
A twist on Loki and Sigyn's wedding myth.
Part I: Here.
Part II: Wedding Night.
Tumblr media
Pairing: Loki x Fem!OC (reader)
Warnings: smut, graphic descriptions of smut, first time, minors DNI.
Loki and I entered his chambers violently. We had just finished our wedding feast, which Odin insisted on not going, and now we finally had our alone time as a married couple. Loki hasn’t stopped touching me or kissing me since the All-father, without knowing, married us. Now that we didn’t need to hide our feelings for each other anymore, he was showing me his sweetest side, and I adored it.
As we entered his chambers, Loki kept kissing me, his hands leaving my body just for a second to close the doors behind him. Then, he lifted me, carrying me in his strong arms. He walked quickly across his chambers with me in his arms, never separating his lips from mine. When we reached his enormous bed, he laid me on it carefully. His penetrating emerald-like eyes stayed on me as he did so. The way his intense gaze went down and up my body, looking at every part of me that my wedding dress allowed him to, made me shiver in anticipation. I was breathing hard due to our previous kiss, but my breath got stuck in my throat just by his look. It was intense, as always, but it was also feral, full of hunger and desire. I felt like a goddess just by the way he looked at me.
Loki left one of his knees next to me on the bed and he stood up on his other foot. Still with his gaze on my body, he slowly undid his leather green robe, unbuttoning it with his long and sensual fingers. I followed the piece of clothing as it made its way to the floor and then stared at his pale torso. He was lean but toned. His pectorals and abdominals were completely shredded. His chest hair was scarce but soft, the same as his lower abdomen hair. I wanted to caress it, to feel it, but I remained in my place. Nerves were starting to kick in at the moment. Loki smiled softly at me as he lay on top of me again, kissing my temple lovingly.
“There is nothing for you to worry about, my beautiful Jade,” he whispered in my ear. “I shall take care of you, I shall take care of every single need you may have and I shall do so impeccably. You shall never miss anything, my lovely wife.”
Loki kissed my lips again, softly, sweetly. He caressed the sides of my waist soothingly. I tentatively moved my hands to caress his chest and the truth is that once I started, I couldn’t stop. His skin was soft and beautiful. I wanted to explore every single part. As the second passed by, my caresses became more confident and our kiss more passionate. His strong arms embraced me tightly as we kept kissing. His expert tongue licked my lower lip, as if tasting it, and then made its way inside my mouth. Our lips parted and our tongues met, sensually caressing each other. Our hands explored each other’s bodies with urgency but slowly at the same time, enjoying being able to touch each other in such an intimate way. It was as if our bodies were eager to discover and unite each other, but we wanted to take it slow and enjoy our first time together. Why wouldn’t we? Now that we were officially married, we had an eternity ahead of us.
Loki’s lips and tongue left mine to kiss my chin, my jaw, the sweet spot behind my ear and down my neck. He kissed my collarbone and my neckline until he reached the beginning of my wedding dress. I felt goosebumps everywhere his lips passed by and my heart beat wildly against my chest, my corset almost suffocating me. As if he were able to feel what I was feeling due to his skilful lips, Loki put his lips next to my ear and whispered:
“May I take your dress off, my princess?”
It warmed my heart that he asked me for permission even when he didn’t need to. His gaze showed his concern for making me feel comfortable with this. If I could love him any more, I would have at that precise moment. I caressed his cheek and kissed his lips softly before nodding at him with a sweet smile on my lips. Loki kissed my cheek lovingly before crawling on the bed behind me. He unzipped my dress slowly, while his lips kissed my nape and back. They were sweet, reassuring kisses and they were definitely accomplishing their mission. My dress was eventually on the floor and I was only wearing my undergarments. Loki kissed his way up from my shoulder to my neck, still kneeling behind me. He put his fingers on my chin and gently moved my face to one side. Our lips met again in a passionate kiss as his hands moved up and down my body, caressing every part my undergarments allowed him to. I moved on the bed, caressing his soft black hair as I got closer to him. I moan a little in his mouth at the expertise shown by his hands when touching me. Loki undid my hair as we kept kissing, letting it fall like a cascade on my back. He caressed it as our tongues played together and caressed each other in a sensual game. When he broke our kiss because we needed to breathe, Loki looked at me directly into my eyes and I felt naked. As if he could read my soul with that intense gaze of his.
“Do you trust me, my princess?” Loki asked in a husky voice. I was so lost in his gaze and the sensual way his voice sounded that I needed to take some minutes to answer him.
“With my life, Loki.”
“I shall make you feel the most pleasure you have ever felt, my princess. I promise you shall never experience more pleasure than the one I am about to cause you. I beg you to let yourself experience all the pleasure and leave the rest to me, my lovely wife.”
His green eyes intensely looking into mine, his husky voice, his promises; it was all too much for me to bear. I just let myself go, relaxing into his arms and letting him do what he wished with me, as he had asked me to. Loki kissed me again, passionately and his hands caressed my body again. Without breaking our kiss, he took off my brassier, throwing it on the floor. I didn’t have time to feel self-conscious because Loki’s lips kept attacking mine. His hands slowly moved up my body, from the sides of my waist until he was able to cup both my breasts in his big hands. He let go of my lips to look me in the eyes as he caressed and squeezed a little my breasts, making me moan softly. I blushed but he just smiled at me, nibbling my lower lip. He grabbed my nipples in between two of his long fingers and pinched them, making me gasp and move my hips involuntarily. Loki kept playing with my nipples until they were both hard and I was heaving. One of his hands stayed where it was, playing with my nipple, and the other started to caress my skin downwards. He kissed my neck as his hand followed my stomach until he reached my underwear. He moved it below my underwear until he reached my core. He caressed it, causing more gasps to escape my mouth as I let my head rest on his shoulder. Then, he started to rub my clit slowly. I moaned as he kept rubbing my clit, playing with my nipple and nibbling my neck with his teeth. It was all too much. I didn’t know how much I was going to be able to tolerate. Again, it seemed as if he could feel my feelings due to his ministrations. He didn’t go on torturing me with that endless but pointless pleasure.
Loki grabbed my hips and lifted me up, laying me on the bed next to him. He stood up to take off his trousers as he kept his gaze on me. He kissed my inner thigh as he got rid of my underwear. Then, he positioned himself on top of me, opening my legs and resting his arms right next to my head.
“You are the most precious gem I have ever laid eyes upon, my beautiful princess.”
Loki gave me a short, sweet kiss and then he entered me, our bodies becoming one, finally. I moaned highly, partly from pleasure, partly from pain. It was my first time with a man and I knew from others’ words that it was probably going to hurt. Loki breathed hard, staying still to give me some time to adjust to this new intrusion into my body. He kissed my temple, my cheekbones, my cheeks, my chin, my neck and everywhere he could reach. It was distracting enough for me and I could only smile at him for showering me with so much affection.
“Are you alright, my love?” he asked as his green eyes looked deeply into mine, showing his concern. “Do you want us to stop?”
“No, not at all,” I took a deep breath. “I want to be your wife in every sense possible, Loki,” I caressed his hair, kissing him again. He smiled softly at me.
“You, my dear Jade, are my wife. No matter what anybody says or thinks, you are my wife, my princess, my love and have been since we first met.”
I smiled again and kissed him. Our lips joined in a sweet kiss and Loki started to move slowly, out and inside of me. I moaned against his lips and he moaned back. I put my hands on his back as he embraced me tighter. We started to make love passionately, our moans becoming higher and more frequent as Loki moved faster. I felt him inside me and there was no better feeling than that one. I wanted to feel it for the rest of my life. And I may be as lucky as that.
As Loki kept moving, he kissed my neck, biting it softly. Then he moved down my collarbone, my neckline until he found my nipple. His tongue played with it, making the pink bud get harder and darker again. I kept moaning as his hands expertly caressed my body, his tongue kept teasing me as he kept moving inside and out of me. It was the most exciting experience of my life and it was just the first time.
I moved my hands to his front, on his chest, and brought his lips towards mine to kiss him again. I couldn’t help myself, it was as if his lips were my addiction. Suddenly, I felt a rush of sexual adrenaline inside of me that was so pleasurable that my moans weren’t enough to express it. And then, it was all out. I screamed Loki’s name in my extasis, not knowing what was happening to me, but letting myself enjoy it. If Loki was causing me to feel this rush of adrenaline, then I would embrace it and enjoy it fully. After some more minutes, Loki smiled at me softly as he embraced me tightly, and nuzzled my temple with his nose.
“That, my beautiful princess, is what lies ahead of you for the rest of our eternity together.”
Headcanons for all the survivors gender/sexuality
Wilson- Just Kinda decided he was gonna be a boy when he was like 8 and his dad was so desperate for an heir that didn’t want him dead to rights he just kinda let it happen. would fuck anyone but at the same time is not interested at all
Willow- Butch-ish but more in a tomboy kinda way. genuinely likes wearing skirts and more feminine clothing but doesn’t really think she deserves to? if that makes sense? (She doesn’t really feel like a genuine legit girl) hardcore lesbian.
Wolfgang- Very traditionally masculine but in the “My job is to protect and take care of everyone” and not the “im a man so I can do whatever I want” type way. Gay but could totally be in a lavender relationship/marriage and have no problems w/ it
WX-78- Born a cis female, figured out early on that wasn’t right but couldn’t change it until they were an adult. Transed their gender but then figured out being a male wasn’t right either. eventually found someone who felt similarly and abandoned their flesh for the machine. solidly aroace. they’re triple a (agender, asexual, aromantic) just like batteries
Wickerbottom- cis female and “traditionally” feminine, has never felt the need to explore or question it. Used to be married to a man who was secretly gay and looking for someone similarly emotionally unavailable. He has since passed but left wicker a small fortune so. alls well that ends well ig
Wes- kind of a stereotypical femme twink. The kinda gay whos loud and proud and will hit you with a brick if you have a problem with that. feels obligated to help the others try and figure themselves out- esp the ones who are more in denial abt it
Maxwell- I think the idea that max is trans and Jack is cis and they turned out looking the exact same is hilarious. Technically the only ppl who knows he’s trans are jack and charlie- their parents just think he’s a masculine woman and everyone else knows him as a man. Bi and so so weak for bears and gently bossy women.
Wendy- Non-binary but still in the process of realizing it. Does not give a single shit abt romance but would totally be qpp with Webber once they know what that means.
Woodie- Probably Not Cis but has too much religious trauma to even dare questioning himself. He’s like JUST accepted the fact that he’s gay (still thinks hes going straight to hell but we’re working on that) so ynknow baby steps. baby steps. Deffo has a shit ton of body dysphoria due to the wereforms tho
Webber- Since spiders work a lil different in the constant (probably more like bees) there are like three genders Webber could potentially see themselves as. Drone, warrior, and queen. During his childhood he thinks of himself mostly as a drone but as he gets older and his sway over the spiders increases they’ll shift into seeing themselves as more of a queen. But other that he’s pretty much whatever non-spider gender is most convenient. Definitely bi.
Wigfrid- her gender is… strange. What she outwardly presents is her character’s way of presenting herself so ig I see her as kinda fluid? Idk valiant-valkyrie if ur reading this you can probably do a better job of explaining it. you are the defacto wigfrid authority. Definitely lesbian but once again will do whatever the role requires
Winona- Solidly butch lesbian. Definitely a caretaker and a protector but in the butch kinda way and not the femme kinda way. if that makes sense.
Wurt- Butch but hasn’t really realized it yet. does not think human genders apply to her bcs she’s a merm and will 100% be king when she grows up. baby lesbiab. her and wilba’s eventual union shall bring peace to the pig/merm kingdoms once and for all
Wortox- human genders do not apply to him. They are whatever is most convenient at the time. Fluid like loki and bugs bunny.
Walter- if xenogenders existed back then he would totally be like pupgender/buggender. Non-binary but has no problem being called a boy/man. Would be fine with any prns but people have only ever used he/him for him. Probably going to be a monsterf*cker when he grows up.
Wormwood- He is plant. Plants have sexes but no genders and wormwood is intersex anyway but they kinda just chose the first option presented to him once he found the others. Loves all but has absolutely no interest or idea about non-plant reproductive activities.
Walani- Yknow that “as a girl who’s a gross dude men who are fancy ladies are my best friends”? Yeah that’s her and Warly. she’s the emotional support golden retriever to warly’s high-strung cheetah. Lesbian but like. endearingly loser lesbian who’s only ever smooth when she’s not trying to be.
Warly- as mentioned before he is very much a guy who is a fancy lady. Would probably do drag if he had the chance and would 100% be the baddest bitch who makes all the men question their sexuality. Gay and european.
Wanda- doesn’t have time for all that gender questioning bullshit she just wants to kiss women.
Wheeler- Solid futch, leans more feminine or masculine depending on the situation. Woman-leaning bisexual, has probably fucked someone wife and inadvertently caused a divorce.
Woodlegs- pretty solidly cis male but 100% an embarrassing old gay grandpa. Doesn’t know much abt the terminology but is incredibly supportive and was definitely a homewrecker back in the day. Probably got out of at least one arrest by seducing the naval officer meant to bring him in
Wilba- high femme and definitely a baby lesbian. I do really like the idea of her being trans just because why not so why not. She and wurt are fat femme x fat butch once they grow up
Wagstaff- born as a girl but realized he hated it and made attempts to transition early on. Eventually ran away to America to fully transition. Non-binary too but hasn’t realized it yet and just thinks that everyone feels weird when someone calls them mr or sir. men-liker and old man yaoi certified
Wilbur- yes I’m doing the monkey. Gender is a strange concept to him, so he just kinda calls himself male bcs apparently he is? He doesn’t really understand it but it seems to be pretty important in human society so he’ll do it if it means he gets respected as an actual person and not just some sideshow.
Pairing: Criminal!Loki Laufeyson x Criminal!Fem!Reader
Warning(s): mob!au themes, mentions of thievery, general stupidity, my bad humour, mob violence, possible gore, mild angst, possible references to death, lemme know if I forgot anything
Tumblr media
In the sprawling city of New York, a clandestine world thrived beneath the surface of law and order. Loki, a cunning an enigmatic figure, helped rule the shadows with his silver tongue and a hint of mischief in his piercing green eyes. He was a true mastermind in the art of deception.
And then there was you--a woman of unparalleled intellect and allure, with a reputation that matched Loki's in every single way. But you were no ally; you were a rival, each of you vying for dominance in the criminal underworld.
Despite your mutual animosity, you were both members of the infamous gang The Avengers--a tight-knit group that thrived on pulling off audacious heists; heists that others could only dream of. And tonight, fate had conspired to throw you and Loki together for a mission that could solidify your status within the gang.
The target was a priceless artefact; one hidden deep within the heavily guarded confines of the city's most secure museum. The heist required extreme precision, timing, and a well-coordinated plan. You knew you couldn't do it alone, and Loki, much to your chagrin, was assigned as your mission partner.
As you stood together outside the museum, the tension between you was palpable. "This should be fun," Loki quipped, a smug smile on his face. "Working with my favourite rival, that is."
You rolled your eyes, unimpressed by his attempt at charm. "Oh, please, spare me the pleasantries," you retorted. "Let's just get this over with so I can go back to stealing things in peace!"
Loki chuckled, clearly basking in your annoyance. "As you wish, my dear adversary. Shall we proceed with our extremely cunning plan?"
With a nod, you began to outline the intricacies of the heist, exploiting each other's strengths while ensuring the keep a watchful eye on any opportunity to outdo the other. The museum's layout, security systems, and patrol schedules were meticulously discussed as you both crafted a plan that was sure to confound anyone who dared to stand in your way.
As you entered the museum, disguised in sleek black attire, the adrenaline began to surge through your veins. You exchanged a knowing glance, acknowledging the thrill of the challenge ahead.
The heist progressed flawlessly, a symphony of coordinated movements and unspoken communication. Your rivalry had turned into a delicate dance of skill and cunning, each of you anticipating the other's moves with a begrudging respect.
At one point, as you expertly bypassed a laser grid, Loki's voice danced with amusement. "Not bad, Y/n. Not bad at all. But you're still a few steps behind me!"
You shot him a glare, "We'll see about that, Laufeyson. I'm just warming up."
With a theatrical flourish, Loki retrieved a small, gleaming device from his pocket. "Let's see if you can keep up with this," he taunted, activating the device with a triumphant smirk.
To your surprise, a hidden vent opened in the ceiling above you, allowing Loki to gracefully ascend and evade the laser grid. He looked down at you, a self-satisfied grin on his face.
"Show off," you muttered, but the corners of your lips betrayed a hint of amusement.
Loki laughed, basking in your acknowledgement of his clever move. "Oh, come now, Y/n. Where's your sense of adventure?"
With renewed determination, you followed Loki's lead, leaping and dodging through the maze of security measures.
As you reached the heart of the museum, where the priceless artefact was displayed under bulletproof glass, you exchanged a knowing glance with Loki. This was the moment that would determine your success or failure, and you both knew it.
With a nod, Loki initiated the final phase of the plan. As the distraction unfolded on the museum's opposite side, you moved with calculated precision, slipping through the shadows and disabling the electronic barriers with ease.
The moment your fingers made contact with the glass casing, a tingling sensation coursed through you. It was as if the artefact recognised its impending liberation, and the connection sent a thrill down your spine.
But just as you were about to secure the artefact, a gut-wrenching sound echoed through the halls--an alarm had been triggered.
Your eyes widened, "Shit! We've got to go!"
Loki rolled his eyes, "You don't say? Why don't we just wait and have some tea with the police?"
"Now is not the time for your quips, you asshole," you spat.
Just as Loki was about to spit something back, you both heard the sound of footsteps. "Museum Security! Come out with your hands up!"
"Do they really think that we'd be scared of them?" Loki whispered.
"Not now, Laufeyson!"
Together, you and Loki navigated through the labyrinthine corridors, staying one step ahead of the security team that was now in hot pursuit of you both. The museum was now a maze of danger, but you both managed to move in harmony, being driven by a shared goal and an unspoken understanding.
As you burst through the museum's doors and into the night, the artefact safely concealed under Loki's coat, you exchanged a knowing glance. Despite the obstacles, you had done it--together.
Just as you thought you were in the clear, the sound of police sirens echoed in the distance, growing louder with each passing moment. You and Loki exchanged a glance of realisation--you both had been caught.
As the handcuffs came out, you couldn't help but glare at Loki; anger and adrenaline coursing through your veins. "This is all your fault," you hissed.
Loki scoffed, the corners of his lips curling into a mischievous smirk. "Oh, please. You're the one who tripped the alarm, Y/n. I was simply trying to clean up after your mess."
"This all would've gone smoothly if I wasn't partnered with you!" You shot back, glaring at him with a mix of frustration and grudging admiration.
"We can argue about your faults later," Loki said, his voice low and urgent. "Right now, we need to find a way out of here."
The Black Queen
Tumblr media
Summary: An evening at Prince Thor's naming day ball, leaves you with a conflicted head, and heart.
Pairing: Loki x Reader
Wordcount: 1k
A/N: This is for @salenorona23 who left me a request. I'm thinking of doing a part 2 but only if people would read it, so let me know in the comments.
_________________________________________________
Your very being exudes power. You are a queen. You command armies. You rule an entire realm. This is apparently intimidating to some men; the type of men who demand respect without doing anything to earn it. The ones who want a woman to live in their shadows, the ones who want a maid, not a life partner.
However you needed a consort, the laws of your realm were very clear and very hard to change, you had tried. So for the past several years of your life, you had been searching, not necessarily for love, you weren’t foolish enough to believe that love was something you’d ever have but you at least wanted someone you didn’t hate. Lords from all over the nine realms had come to attempt to win over your favor. The issue you faced was weeding out the ones who saw you as nothing more than a stepping stone to their own throne.
Like this idiot.
“So what other things do you do? Needlepoint? Knitting perhaps,” the snide man whose name you never bothered to learn asks. You were growing increasingly more frustrated the more this man talked to you. You were in attendance for a ball being thrown on Asgard, Prince Thor’s naming day ball as well as a celebration of the Warriors Three’s latest victory. You were dressed in finery, a silken gown in a deep blue color cascading down your body. The dress had sheer scooping sleeves which rested parallel to your collarbones. Running up your forearms were matching arm braces, they were metal and looked entirely decorative depicting the image of shooting starts intertwined with one another, but could be used to deflect a blade if need be. Speaking of blades you had several hidden on your body, and were growing ever more tempted to use one on the insufferable man next to you.
“I think it’s just wonderful that women have found things to do to occupy their time, one must get so bored waiting at home all the time.”
“I’m afraid My Lord, that I do not often have the pleasure of indulging myself in hobbies, I am much too busy ruling my kingdom. But I should hope that whoever I shall marry will have their own ways to occupy their time. When they wait for me at home as you put it.”
Alas, your blades were not needed this time as the man sputtered and excused himself when your words reached him.
“Who needs blades when you have barbs that sharp” a voice called from behind you.
“I take pride in my ability to handle fools, as I’m sure you do as well.” You turned your torso slightly to be able to get a better look at the raven-haired man to your left. “They call you silver-tongued do they not, Prince Loki?”
The Prince raised his eyebrow in your direction wetting his lip with his tongue. “It is one of my titles, yes.” He smirked in a roguish way while making his way towards you. In one hand he held a goblet, full of what you can only assume to be wine. “I seem to recall they call you the Black Queen if I’m not mistaken.” His tone was sultry in a way that sent shivers up your spine.
“I have not heard that name in years, it's a shame, I was quite fond of it.” In a brazen move that you might scold yourself for later, you grab the goblet out of his hand and take a sip. Mead. the sweetness hits your tongue and causes a smile to involuntarily spread across your face.
“It is lovely to meet someone interesting at one of these things, usually I turn to making mischief to entertain myself.” The raven-haired prince said.
“Well, I’m happy to amuse you, your highness” You responded. “Although I suppose I should be spending my time trying to find a suitor, as was my intention when I arrived.”
He raised an eyebrow at this, “A suitor? But don’t you already have a throne?” He questioned, genuine curiosity bleeding through his words.
“That I do, but the laws of my kingdom are clear, I must find a consort and soon if I were to remain in power.” It wasn’t like you to divulge this much information, especially to someone you had just met. But something about the Prince made him easy to talk to, which was dangerous in more ways than one.
“And who, may I ask, will take the throne if this fails to happen.” He tilted his head to the side and his eyes bore into your own. The green pools full of something mysterious, something alluring, something disastrous.
“I am my father’s only heir. If I were to be forced to forfeit the throne, the custom in my kingdom is a tournament. The lords will fight amongst themselves with the weapon of my choosing until one is victorius, he will be named king. And as much as I would love to witness the lords fighting to the death, I would much rather keep my crown.” You explained.
“My brother, the blonde oaf fumbling about the other side of the ballroom, is also looking for a suitor. It might be worth pursuing, you both are heirs to your own thrones and while he may be dull, you’ll not find a better option. Besides, he’s not looking for love, only a match that will stop Father from pestering him. I’d imagine you’re somewhat the same in that regard.” Loki’s words caused you to pause. Never in a millenia would you have throught that he would offer Thor instead of himself. From what you’ve heard he was very self-serving. You heard of his play to take the crown and while his attempt had failed you would’ve thought he’d vye for yours once he knew it was possible.
“You seem a strong ruler, I’d hate for you to lose your crown becuase of a foolish law.” He took his goblet out of your hand and began to turn away. You let him
Your mind was muddled, and you had no idea what to think. You could not deny the attractiveness of the younger prince, he was witty and cunning and very very handsome. It also seemed that he respected you, thought of you as a good leader and wished the best for you. In a few short moments he had contradicted everything you had evr heard of him. You were left with one thought reigning over all the others in your mind.
Thor was not the prince you wanted.
a/n: The majority of you voted for a lil' sneak peek... And here it is! Enjoy! 💚 It's not proofread yet, so... 🙈
Tumblr media
Smol sneak peek...
The pâtisserie was bustling with people - of course. After all, it was the best in downtown; yes, probably in whole New York City.
With your hand was snugly wrapped up in Loki's bigger hand, you waited patiently in line until it was your turn. "Hi, we have an appointment for a wedding cake tasting," you explained to the friendly looking young man behind the counter. His eyes widened when he looked at you and Loki; recognising the both of you for sure. "Oh, uh, yes, give me a second, please..." He said nervously, looked down and seemed to search for something, until- "Ah, yes. Please follow me." You nodded with a smile. The young man's cheeks reddened and he smile bashfully back at you.
You and Loki followed him then to a little back room with two doors, a small grey sofa, white counter and some bar stools. The wall was painted in a beautiful shade of pastel orange and a few art pictures hung here and there. It looked quite neat and cosy.
"Have a seat, please." The man gestured towards the sofa. "Riley will be with you in a minute." You smiled, "Thank you." while your fiancè gave him a nod. Once more the young guy smiled shyly and fumbled nervously with his fingers. "It's an honour to have you here, Ms. Y/L/N and Mr. Laufeyson."
For the first time since you entered the pâtisserie, Loki spoke up; leapfrogging you. "Well, it's a pleasure to be here." You silently agreed with the god; who still held your hand in a snug grip and made sure you were standing close to him.
Even though you were about to be married, he still showed the people who you belong to. _Guess some things never change,_ you thought with a smile; looking at your engulfed hand. You didn't care, though. Quite the opposite... Loki's slight possessiveness was attractive and admittedly sexy in your eyes.
The man opposite you blushed in a dark shade of red, "That's great to hear." before shuffling his feet. He was on the verge of leaving the room, but before he did, he turned around to face you and Loki once again; seemed now to have scratched all his bravery together and ask: "I-I know this is p-probably inappropriate to ask, b-but may I get an autograph l-later?"
You smiled brightly. The guy was kinda cute, you couldn't deny that. "Of course. Just hit us up before we leave again."
The young man's eyes twinkled with happiness - and relief. "T-Thank you." Then he left the little room and you and Loki alone.
Tumblr media
About five minutes later, the other door at the side wall opened and in came a woman in 'workwear', bright pink hair, glasses and quite a few piercings.
You and Loki were sitting on the sofa - like instructed; hands still intertwined and resting in your lap. Your free hand was on Loki's thigh, close to his knee. When you saw the woman, you both stood up.
"Hi there!" She said in a happy, enthusiastic tone and crossed the distance to meet you and shake your hands. "I'm Riley, we talked on the phone. Nice to meet you." You shook her hand, smiling. "Y/N and Loki." The friendly woman winked, "I know." shook Loki's hand as well and gestured for the counter with the bar stools. "Shall we move over?" "Sure." You and the god followed Riley. She went behind the counter and you both got comfortable on the stools.
The Selection || Chapter Seven ||
Phew I thought this wouldn't be out until tomorrow but I managed to blitz through it and I am quite happy with the results! I hope you all enjoy!
Chapter Six || Masterlist ||
Tumblr media
You celebrated the next day with your friends and the day was going really well and when you tucked yourself into bed the next night, you understood why Loki wasn’t visiting you that night and you sighed in disappointment. I just need time, you whispered to yourself dismally as you hugged the blanket close to you.
You were close to falling asleep when you heard a knock at the door and you groaned, cursing under your breath about girls that wouldn’t let you sleep as you walked over to the door and pulled it open, freezing when you saw Loki standing in your doorway. “Loki?” you whispered in confusion before he cupped your cheek and your eyes fluttered shut.
Moments later, you pulled away and laughed nervously as you blushed, “what was that for?”
The Prince’s eyes met yours and the startling emerald froze you in your spot. They were so full of emotion, so full of love for you that it startled you and a small voice in the back of your head begged you to just let him call it all off and marry you but you couldn’t. The others needed their chance.
“I needed to see you,” he whispered softly, his eyes flitting between your eyes and your lips continuously, “I tried to stay away, honestly, but I just couldn’t. You mean the Nine Realms to me, Y/N, no one else can compete. Not one of those other girls hold a chance.”
You heart raced with elation at his confession but the dark parts of your mind encouraged you to believe that he was saying this to every one of the Selected girls. “Loki, I told you I needed time,” you whispered weakly, watching the Prince deflate at your words, a sad expression on his face.
“Go into town with me,” he whispered, taking your hand in his and your breath hitched at the feeling of his cool hand circling your own, “just you and me. One camera only, I promise.”
You bit down on your lip and weighed the options but then you remember that you had agreed to allow Loki to take you on dates like the rest of the girls and you could hardly say no to allowing Donna and Milly a chance to see you on TV again, you really missed them. “Okay,” you whispered weakly, enjoying the pleased smile that quickly overtook his desperate pleading expression.
“Brilliant,” the God replied, his thumb stroking over the back of your palm delicately. His mouth opened and closed as if he was going to say something else but he simply leaned in and sealed your lips in another kiss and after he finally pulled away, he whispered, “I shall meet you at the entrance hall at ten am, my darling, dress warmly.”
With a sweet smile, you nodded and gave him a peck on his cheek before taking a step back and closing the door.
~~
You were at the entrance hall at exactly ten am and you smiled when you saw Loki dressed in his more formal attire with a pelt cloak wrapped around his shoulders. He looked utterly ravishing, and you couldn’t help but imagine just how perfect he would look as you ripped those clothes from his body to reveal the alabaster skin beneath.
“You came,” Loki breathed, as if in shock that you would even turn up and his cheeks filling with colour as he smiled at you, offering his hand to you and beaming when you eagerly took it.
“As if I’d leave the Prince waiting for a date,” you replied with a teasing smirk, blushing when Loki pulled your hand to his lips and kissed your knuckles which made your heart flutter, “I’m sure that would be completely inappropriate.”
That’s when you noticed one camera trained on you and Loki and you began to shuffle uncomfortably, knowing that tonight everyone would be watching your date with Loki so if it went wrong, you’d soon be hated within the Realms.
“Ignore the camera, darling,” Loki whispered, linking your arm with his and smiling at you though you noticed that it wasn’t that rare smile that you saw when you were both hiding away in your bedroom, it was more professional, more for the public eye rather than for you. After offering you a small smile, Loki guided you out of the palace and down to the carriage that was waiting for you.
You were so stunned by the beauty of the carriage and how it looked but you didn’t miss the stallion that would be pulling the carriage and you looked between it and Loki. “Is that...” you whispered softly, seeing Loki eyeing the stallion longingly, suddenly so far away from you hidden beneath layers and layers of grief.
“Sleipnir,” Loki replied in a hushed voice that you could barely hear so you knew the public wouldn’t be able to hear it. Suddenly, the Prince looked at you with a forced smile and helped you inside the carriage before Looking to the camera and whispering to him, “meet us in the city. This is private.”
The cameraman nodded and stopped recording before getting on the back of the carriage. Satisfied, Loki closed the door to the carriage and turned to you, smiling sadly when he saw you waiting expectantly for him. “What do they tell you of Sleipnir in legend, my dear?” Loki whispered gently as the carriage began to move, his eyes betraying his worry and an emotion that you couldn’t quite place.
“They say that Sleipnir is your son,” you replied, leaning forward in your seat and shivering slightly. Seeing that you were cold, Loki twisted his hand and conjured up another pelt for you – one that was designed like a female cloak to keep you warm. “They also say that after your pregnancy to Sleipnir, you couldn’t handle parenthood so you gave him up,” you whispered weakly, as if worrying how the God would reply to such a tale.
“Sleipnir is my son,” Loki confirmed, his hand cupping his chin as his eyes looked downwards with a deep frown etched onto his face, “but I didn’t give him up. He was stolen from me by Odin because I was too young to be a parent. Odin is not as charitable as he appears, Y/N, it’s a miracle he even let me do The Selection.”
You nodded your head solemnly and sighed softly before reaching over and taking his hand, flashing him a comforting smile as you tried to show him that you supported him. “It must be terrible,” you whispered, seeing the weakness in Loki’s eyes that you knew he didn’t even wish to show you, “it must be terrible to see your son daily but never be able to spend time with him.”
Loki laughed bitterly and his thumb caressed your soft skin as he nodded. The ride was silent for a while as Loki seemed to be lost in his memories and you didn’t mind if he needed the time to think. He probably didn’t want to reveal that secret to you and now he was thinking that you’d abuse it.
In all honesty, the Prince sat in shock of how understanding you were about his past and about him having a child. He hid a smile from his face expertly as he looked up to gaze at you, shocked to find you simply looking at him with an expression of true understanding that it made him freeze for a moment before he made a bold move and moved to sit beside you. With close proximity, he felt the subtle shudder of your skin and he frowned when he found that you were still cold.
“Here,” he whispered, his seiðr glowing between you both to merge the two pelts into one large blanket and he helped you lean against him with a small smile, “better?”
“Much,” you replied simply, a relaxed sigh escaping your lips as your eyes slipped closed.
Loki could tell when you had drifted off as your breathing evened out and your head rolled towards him slightly with a beautiful sigh. The God didn’t dare admit it to himself that he wished he could see you like this every morning when you both woke up in his chambers. You needed time, he reminded himself sternly, you weren’t ready for anything like that.
~~
When you reached town, Loki gently shook you and smiled as you roused from your nap to stare sleepily at him. “We’ve arrived, my Princess,” he whispered tenderly to you, watching a small smile spread across your lips and your delicate hand take his offered one as he helped you out of the carriage.
Everyone was already gathered in their stalls, ready to entice you into buying luxurious items or delicious baked goods whenever they could. The cameraman was ready and already filming as you stepped out of the carriage into the slightly bitter noon air, seeing Asgard in person for the first time away from your balcony in the palace.
Loki stood beside you proudly, his hand firmly held on your waist as you steadied yourself, pulling the fur pelt back over your shoulders and sighing blissfully at the warmth that wrapped around you. Once Loki was sure that you were ready, he began to guide you through the small crowd that had gathered to welcome you to the city.
“Come here, Lady Y/n!” someone called from a stall to your right and you tilted your head as you turned to look at what the stall was selling and you gasped when you saw that it held beautiful treats that looked as if they had only just come out of the oven. With a bright smile, you lead Loki over to the stall and stared at all of the treats.
“How much for a raspberry pie and a chocolate brownie?” you asked, already fishing through your money bag to pay for the small amounts of treats.
“For you, Lady Y/N, I charge nothing!” the seller grinned, his eyes looking between you and Loki with a proud smile as he selected the biggest of the brownies and pie and put them in a bag for you before handing them to you, “we’re on your team.”
You stared at him for a moment before smiling and bowing your head as Loki thanked the man and guided you away.
You visited many stalls in a good few hours and your favourite one was the mini weapons stall that you knew caught Loki’s eyes but he wouldn’t go over to it in case it frightened you so you decided to fake delight when you saw it. “Loki, look!” you gasped, pointing to the stall and causing the Prince to look over too and then look back at you, “I’ve always wanted a cool dagger or something!”
Marry this one, something inside Loki whispered demandingly as he guided you over to the stall and watched you look between a sapphire crested dagger and a ruby red one. Seeing that you were distracted, Loki allowed his eyes to wander until they landed on a dagger made of the most beautiful emerald and malachite and he picked it up, testing its weight and balance and he hummed when he found that it felt perfect for him. “I shall have this one,” he announced, handing the merchant fifteen gold coins and then looking over at you, “darling what do you pick?”
“This one!” you announced eagerly, lifting up the sapphire dagger and matching scabbard and Loki smiled softly before looking around the stall and finding a thigh holster and buying it for you as you purchased the dagger.
The smile on Loki’s face didn’t leave even as he guided you into Asgard’s fanciest restaurant for lunch. Everyone inside was put off by the God of Mischief’s good mood until they saw you standing beside him and suddenly they understood. You were with him. Of course he’d be smiling!
As you sat down in the booth with Loki, you looked over at the Prince and grinned when you saw him looking at you over the menu and you whispered, “what is it?”
“Nothing,” Loki replied with a soft smile before looking back at his menu and then he wrote out the order in the air with his seiðr and he looked over at you expectantly, “have you decided?”
“Yes, I’ll have this,” you turned your menu around to show him your order and you grinned when he wrote it in the air along with the drink you chose before the words disappeared and you assumed that the kitchen got the order. “How many of the girls have you brought here?” you asked with a smile, figuring that small talk would make the wait for food seem less.
“None of them,” Loki responded, his eyes meeting yours with a small smile, watching your cheeks heat up, “yes, pet, I’m doing this for the first time with you. As it should be.”
Your eyes fell to the table and you nibbled on your lip nervously as you thought things through in your head. He’s truly serious about this, you thought with a frown, nibbling absently on your nail, he has made his choice already, it would seem.
“I also got this for you,” Loki whispered, placing a black velvet box on the table and you gasped as you pulled it closer to you.
With slightly shaking hands, you pulled open the lid of the box and words left your mouth as you stared down at the train tickets in the box. “Train tickets?” you whispered shyly, “have I done something wrong?”
“Quite the contrary, my darling,” Loki replied with a smile, his eyes shining bright with pride, “you have been permitted to go home and see your family for the Christmas season. All contestants have. Just one small detail.”
“What’s that?” you whispered softly, your cheeks heating up when Loki leaned close enough and dropped his voice low so the camera wouldn’t pick it up, “I’m coming with you.”
You were stunned into silence as you stared at the Prince. “You’re coming with me?” you whispered back, shock evident in your face, “to my home? On Midgard? With me?”
Loki chuckled softly and nodded his head as an affirmative. “I would like to see where you grew up, my love,” he whispered again, his eyes shining brightly with mischief, “mother and father do not know that I will be doing this, however, but I find that for you? I do not care.”
He lied, of course. Frigga had set all of this up for him to join you and keep Odin out of the loop and she was so very proud of it. Loki would be going home with his future Princess and time away from the cameras in public would be enough for Loki to sway you, she hoped.
Lunch passed quickly after that and when you were heading back to the carriage, you found that it was not headed back to the palace, rather going down the Bifrost instead. “But don’t I need to pack?” you asked Loki with a weak smile, flushing when Loki laughed and shook his head.
“Everything was already sent home after you left this morning, my beloved,” Loki responded, holding your hand and kissing your knuckles before seeing the gathering of carriages outside the Bifrost Observatory and he clicked his tongue, “they can’t know I’m coming with you, darling, I shall stay here.”
You nodded and grinned when the footman opened the door to your carriage so you could race over to the gathering of girls and you grinned when Cleo ran into your arms.
“We get to go home for winter!” the Vanir cried out, grinning with excitement as she hugged you, “I cannot wait to see my parents and tell them how beautiful Asgard is in person! Oh, Y/N, you will write, won’t you?”
“Of course I will!” you responded quickly with a grin, turning so that all of your friends could join in a hug, “I hope you all have a good holiday!”
Phoebe grinned and looked over at Katerina before pulling away from the hug and looking at the Palace in the background. “I won’t be coming back,” she announced, watching all of your friend’s faces turn to distraught and mournful before she added, “I met with Loki and admitted that I do not love him. Actually... I love someone else.”
You watched as her hand shyly look Katerina’s and your eyes lit up in delight as Katerina blushed and looked away. “So you’re going home too?” you whispered weakly to Katerina and gathered her up into your arms when she started sobbing and nodding, “it’s okay! We’re proud of you for coming out!”
“Win the contest, Y/N,” Katerina whispered with a small smile on her face, pulling away enough to look into your eyes, “we see how you look at the Prince when he isn’t looking. We know that you love him but won’t admit it. You can win this, Y/N.”
With a short nod, you said goodbye to Phoebe and Katerina, promising to write during your stay on Midgard and then making them swear that they’ll watch The Selection when they get back home. You saw Summer Parkerdottir standing beside Lorelei saying goodbye and you noticed that she was crying.
That’s when you realised what this was. This was the decider round. Three were now sent home so the next stage of The Selection can happen. The stage where he was allowed to explore more sexual activities with the girls of The Selection.
As you walked back to your carriage and stepped inside, you looked over to Loki and grinned when you saw that he was now holding a glass of mead in one hand and looking out of the window. “You’re sending Katerina and Phoebe home?” you asked slowly, watching Loki flinch in surprise from your voice.
“Darling, it was a mutual agreement,” Loki whispered, smiling at you as he sipped his mead and tried to contain his nervousness for your reaction, “it is also against the rules to pursue any other romantic relationships when trying to win my hand.”
You sighed and sat opposite him with a frown. You didn’t like that Phoebe and Katerina were being sent home, but you knew the rules and it had to happen. Still, you were happy for your friends, and you hoped that they would be happy together. “I’ll miss them,” you whispered weakly, watching Loki’s expression soften.
“I know you will, I’ve seen how those girls have brought out your confidence, my darling, but you shall see them again,” Loki whispered, his hand covering yours as his thumb stroked over the gentle skin of your hand, “you’d see them even sooner if...”
“Loki,” you snapped, surprising yourself with the amount of venom you put into his name, “I said I needed time!”
Loki deflated and nodded weakly before his hand dropped from yours and he sat back in his seat, continuing to sip his mead as he stare out of the carriage as it travelled through the beautiful rainbow of the Bifrost and then begin the trek to the train station. His mind wandered to what you thought of him if you snapped at him like that. His lips pressed down into a deep frown as a thought slipped into his mind that you might not love him to begin with.
“My Prince, we have arrived at the station,” the footman announced from outside the door and he held it open for Loki to get out and then he helped you out, blushing when you thanked him.
Loki offered you his arm and when you linked it, he boarded the train with you, finding a compartment easily and sitting down with you on the chair opposite him. The Prince didn’t look at you once, starting to build up walls to protect himself from the rejection that he felt you were going to give him at the end of this holiday.
As the train chugged down the lines, passing many small towns and a few built up cities, you eyed Loki warily with a frown on your face. You didn’t like that Loki wasn’t speaking, your mind instantly decided that he was done being affectionate with you and was rethinking this whole thing of coming with you.
Instead of bottling it up like you would have before The Selection, you whispered out, “do you hate me?”
“Darling,” Loki purred, his emerald eyes locking onto yours almost instantly, “I feel quite the opposite.”
You blushed and hung your head as you stared at your perfectly manicured nails with a small frown.
The both of you remained silent for the remainder of the two-hour train ride, the air thick with tension and awkwardness that you could almost cut it with your beautiful dagger. Once the train arrived at the station, you heard the roar of a crowd, and it was enough to distract you from the tension between you and Loki.
You stepped out of the train and were stunned to see all of Brekstad awaiting your arrival. Tears sprung to your eyes when you saw your parents and sisters at the front of the crowd with a bouquet of flowers and a banner saying, ‘welcome home, Y/N!’.
“Y/N!!” you heard the scream before you were hit with two little thumps, and you laughed as you dropped to your knees to embrace your sisters and share your tears with them.
“We missed you so much, Y/N!!” Milly sobbed, her tiny hands grabbing at your fur cloak as she sought out comfort in your arms. The girl had gotten so big while you were away, and your heart ached when you saw that she no longer had her hair pulled into beautiful pigtails and she wore it exactly as you used to.
Donna curled into your side and wrapped her arms around your waist as she cried, seeking out the comfort that she’d missed from her big sister. “Being the big sister isn’t easy! I can’t sing lullabies like you can, Y/N!” the girl whines, melting into your gentle caress of her hair.
“I’m home,” you whispered to them with a small smile, pressing a kiss to their foreheads before standing and giggling when they hugged your legs. You smiled as your mother walked up to you and pulled you into a tight hug, her hand gently caressing your hair as she whispered, ‘thank God you’re home.’.
That was when you heard a collective gasp from the crowd, and you raised your head curiously only to see Loki stepping out of the train in his travelling attire and more casual version of his helmet.
“It’s Prince Loki!” cried one of the villagers, pointing to the Prince in question.
“Is the Selection over??” another spoke up, looking between Loki and you.
“Y/N won!!” another voice called out.
Loki gulped but held up his hand and straightened his back before switching into his public speaking mode and his voice could he heard from the houses at the bottom of the street. “Lady Y/N has not won The Selection,” he announced, ignoring the growing murmur of suspicion, “I was given the chance to holiday with one of the Selected to get to know them better, Y/N was chosen.”
You knew it was a lie but Loki was the God of Lies so of course everyone would fall for any lie he tells. You enjoyed the comfort of your family as you watched Loki interact with the crowd and even spared a smile just for the Prince when he was flooded with children wanting to know all about Asgard.
“You’re just in time for the festival, Y/N!” Milly squealed, tugging on your hand in an effort to guide you home and you smiled as you followed the little girl back home.
Standing in front of the building where you had grown up, you realised just how horrid it looked in comparison to what you were now regrettably used to. Tears formed in your eyes as Donna and Milly led you inside the house and showed you that everything broken had been repaired with the money that they got from you being in The Selection.
“Why didn’t you just move?” you turned to your mother to ask and yet you already knew the reason why even before she said it to you.
“This is all we’ve known, why should we move when we can repair it?”
With a grin, Donna held your hand and guided you up the stairs that were no longer creaky and worn but were now carpeted! You opened the door to your old bedroom and gasped when you saw that the bunk beds had been removed and replaced with new ones that looked as if they had been made of the most expensive wood on the market. The wardrobe had also been removed and in its place was another one that was coloured white with flowers on it with ‘D, M, Y/N’ on the wood of the door. You grinned as you stepped into the room and listened to the quiet of the floorboards beneath your feet.
“We had a lot done to fix our home thanks to you, Y/N!” Milly grinned, running over to her bed and jumping onto the mattress, laughing when no squeaks were head and the bottom of it didn’t break, “you’re amazing!”
Your cheeks heated as you smiled at your sisters before whispering to them, “can you give me a minute?” The girls immediately looked at each other before nodding and departing from the room.
Now alone, you breathed heavily and walked over to the bunk bed that would have been yours and you rested your head against the cold wood. So many memories in this room had been replaced now that your family had enough money to fix everything and your heart ached when you thought that while you had been living lavishly for the last few months, your family had still been suffering for a long while.
You sensed a change in the room and you sighed as you turned to the door and eyed the shadow in the corner of it. “I know you’re there, Loki,” you called out, resting your back against the wood and watching the shadow form into Loki, “why do you spy on me?”
“I wanted to know if you’re faring well,” Loki whispered with a frown, stepping toward you and holding your arms as he looked around your bedroom, “how did it look before?”
With a sigh, you thought of your room as it had been before and allowed Loki into your mind and you felt him conjure an illusion of the memory and when you opened your eyes, the room was darker and some of the floorboards were missing or splintered. The bunk beds were coming apart and looked so unsafe. The wardrobe was a disgusting green and splintering in every possible way but the drawing of you that Donna had spent hours on was still visible slightly.
“This is how I grew up,” you whispered weakly, wiping away tears furiously as they seeped down your cheeks, “this is my life.”
Loki looked around and released a soft sigh before pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead, “I’m sorry that I didn’t realise you lived this way, my Princess.”
“I didn’t tell you, of course you didn’t know,” you replied quickly with a frown, looking around the bedroom mournfully, “I didn’t even realise how horrible it was. Oh Gods, I’ve changed... I’m such a terrible daughter and sister...”
Loki’s expression softened and he shook his head quickly as he pulled you to his chest. “No, no you’re not,” he whispered, his fingers gently running through your hair as a way to comfort you, “the way you’ve been living for the last few months is what you deserved all of your life, my darling.”
You released a sad laugh but Loki just tightened his grip on you to show that he was serious and you released a pathetic whine as you thought back to how you had just accepted your way of life before. You knew that your past self would think you were weak for breaking down in front of Loki but you knew that he would never tell anybody about this, not without your consent.
“Loki... I know I said I needed time but... kiss me...?” you whispered weakly, your eyes searching his for any sign of discomfort but you only saw love and understanding.
The Prince smiled and lowered his head, sealing your lips into a gentle kiss and holding you close to him.
“I promise to you,” Loki whispered as he pulled away for breath, pressing a kiss between your brow and then on your cheek, “I would wait for you until the end of my immortal days. Until Valhalla crumbles and the fallen Gods live again, you shall be mine.”
With a small smile on your face, you pressed your lips to his again.
Thoughts on Loki S2E3!
Henceforth and forevermore, Loki and Mobius shall be known as “The Wizard Gentleman and His Butler”
This whole episode had such an interesting vibe. I loved the way they utilized the film/storytelling styles of the time period, with all the melodramatic acting and ragtime score. But, it was also just so different, it took me out of the story at times. I really like it when the show feels grand and ethereal and sci-fi-ish. Still feel like we’re missing some of that this season, but the tonal shifts were a cool storytelling tool nonetheless.
We don’t talk about Mobius and Ravonna enough. Their relationship fascinates me. I love how patient he is with her, how much he genuinely wants her back on his side. The parallels between them and Loki/Sylvie seem very intentional this season. (Ps. I may or may not have a theory that they were married on the timeline, and one or both of their nexus events involved Ravonna leaving him for a Kang Variant. Has anyone theorized about this before and I’m just completely late to the game, or…? Guess we’ll find out soon enough?)
I don’t know how much more of Loki and Sylvie fighting I can take. 😭They’re struggling! They need each other! They both think the other doesn’t care about them anymore and they can’t get a moment to talk about it because the universe is melting! Please, Marvel, just LET THEM REST!!! 😭😭😭
All that said, I am SO👏PROUD👏of my girl Sylvie for starting to recognize that her bloodlust is killing her from the inside out. This is exactly the kind of growth I want for her. Her heartbroken expression when she realizes that killing Timely would make her just like He Who Remains, choosing who lives and who dies for the sake of the greater good… *chefs kiss* Sophia Di Martino knocked that WHOLE PERFORMANCE out of the park.
Also, as much as I want her and Loki to just hug and make up, I do kind of love the fact that he’s giving her the space she needs to come to these conclusions on her own. He’s been where she is (felt what she feels, etc.). He knows that no amount of persuasion on his part is going to get through to her right now, so he’s letting her figure it out while he works behind the scenes to protect her new life. He’ll be there when she’s ready to take those next steps towards reconciliation (and he better have 10,000 snuggly tablecloths ready because sweet girl needs to be cuddled. A LOT).
Watching Miss Minutes shift from one dated style of animation to another filled my little animator heart with so much glee. And yes, that whole scene of her coming on to Timely was delightfully terrifying.
Poor Victor Timely did not ask for any of this when he woke up this morning. Give that man a break.
Ravonna is… awful. I’ve always disliked her. But honestly, hearing her monologue about how often she put the TVA before her own happiness, how it stole her humanity from her… I’m kind of invested in her growth now. Like, I’m starting to want redemption for her, too. Huh.
Literally everyone in this show is on the same side. They’re all just disagreeing about what the proper course of action is. My guy Mobius’s words are really impacting me right now: “We’ve all lost our way… but someone’s got to keep track of the big picture here.” If that doesn’t ring true of our world, then I don’t know what does.
The main hall is bright and spacious. As alluded to by its name, Jade Hall is adorned in varying shades and cuts of the stone. Gilt frames, golden trays on glass lamps, crystal sconces housing amber flame, veined marble, and polished stone.
The large plinths at the base of the staircase seem unsuited to the statues atop them. Curling snakes of shining gold with great jade eyes and long curved fangs. A long rug of eastern patterns and tassled edges leads the path to the steps, arched and lined with curling banisters.
"Madam," the groom addresses your mother, "I will show you to your chambers."
"Thank you, sir," she accepts nobly as you give a dignified nod.
"You may refer to me as Parson, I am the master's personal groom. He has tasked me with your welcome."
"Oh how gracious," your mother remarks with a fawning grin, "he sounds like a true gentleman."
"He keeps an orderly house," the groom affirms.
"Immaculate," she looks around with her hand to her chest, "ugh, absolutely resplendent."
The groom bows his head and waves towards the stairs before proceeding. Your mother trails him and you follow after her. You glance around at the tall portraits, a woman with loose golden hair with a single haloed braid around her head. Another of a man with dark hair and thick beard, gleaming blue eyes, and an indomitable square jaw. His clothing belongs to a previous season.
You ascend and ease out a stunted breath, exhaling in short spurts as your heart races. You continue down a wide corridor, a standing jade vase beside a whitewashed table beneath a bowl of white lotuses floating in water. A peculiar decore but quaint.
A set of double doors is presented to your mother as the groom faces her with another respectable dip of his head, "Lady Thea, I will allow you to accommodate yourself. Then I shall show the younger to her own chambers. You will be summoned for lunch."
"Thank you, sir," your mother preens, "you must send my gratitude to your master. The duke is very generous."
"Yes, my lady, I will be certain to inform him," he avows, "lady," he looks at you, "you are not very far, just the very next."
He leads you onward as your mother enters her rooms with a dreamy sigh. Her mood has lightened since you left your father's estate. Perhaps being far away from home has cleared her mind of mourning.
You are stopped before a door carved with winding vines. The groom steps back to allow you to pass.
"My lady, if you require anything, there is a bell you may ring and I will be certain you are attended. I will have your maid join you shortly, and your luggage."
You look at his shoulder and attempt a smile, it might look more a grimace as your cheek strain. You swallow and muster some strength, "thank you, sir." Your last word floats at the end, not quiet a sharp R, more aw sound.
"Most honoured, my lady," he responds without pause, "and welcome home."
You bat your lashes and slowly turn to the door. You try to restrain your nerves as they swirl to a maelstrom. Home, is this truly it. Are you truly to be the Lady of Jade Park. Married to a man in place of your sister. An imposter.
You march through the door and the groom pulls the door shut in your stead. You bring your hands up, folding them over your chest. You have a blackness in your heart. You feel as if the world is empty. As if you're lost in it. As if you don't belong to the land of colour and light and life.
It is as much grief as it is dread. You miss your sister, you long for the past, and you fear the path ahead. The unknown is underlined with a certainty, deep inside, that you will as ever be less than you should.
🔹
There is a knock at the door. You break from your trance, reluctantly releasing the window sill and turning away from the sight of birds winging over the gardens. You sweep to the door and open it, facing the servant in their evergreen attire. A man with lines in his cheek and a dourness that darkens his sockets.
"My lady, lunch is served," he declares in a brittle timbre.
You nod and thank him, mouthing the word as your voice refuses to rise. You are taken down the corridor and the man fetches your mother from her chambers as well. She emerges with the aroma of roses. You suspect she was anxiously primping all the while.
You descend the stairs, the noise of the kitchen and shuffle of servants drawing you around to the sunroom near the rear of the house. A round table is set near the tall paned doors, open to let in the summer air. There are tiered trays of cut sandwiches, a tureen of creamy soup, a plate of colourful pastries and sugar cookies, along with a silver tea set and elaborately painted porcelain dishes.
You are shown to your seat and sit with some trepidation. It is only you and your mother amid the rush of servants. Where is the duke? Has he seen you and changed his mind? Is he not eager to meet you?
You keep your hands in your lap, squeezing a fold in your skirt as your mother admires the high ceilings and embroidered edges of the tablecloth. She comments on every detail; the thick brocade curtains drawn to the side, the settee with the knobby birch feet, the round-bellied fire stove set into an alcove; a mixture of eras mingled in a most natural allure.
"Parson," the deep voice chokes you and you shakily tilt your head, peeking form the corner of your eyes as you hear the approaching steps, "how can I be tardy when I am the host? Do not pester me."
You rise as your mother does for the entrance of the duke. For it must be him. He as good as announced it and his appearance all but confirms it. Tall, sleek, with a chin set high, and a nose just short of aquiline. He is handsome, pale, but sardonic. His green eyes remind you of the jade stones set into the serpentine statues near the stairs as he considers the table first then deigns to glance between you and your mother.
He approaches her and bows, his posture eased but refined.
"Lady Thea," he proclaims, "what great effort you did take to be here. No doubt a strenuous journey in this heat."
"Your grace, how generous of you to welcome us," your mother responds, "and I do apologise that our arrival was so delayed."
"Mmm," he shifts and lets his eyes wander to you, "and I regret the news of your firstborn."
"We hoped she would strengthen but... we also did not want to renounce our contract. My husband is a man of integrity."
"Surely, he is. I did think him much so when we met," he says as he strides towards you, fully turning in your direction. He offers a smaller bow, "you do look rather different than your sister."
You blanch. You don't know what to say. You thought he hadn't met Edith.
"However, we cannot always trust a portrait's likeness," his eyes flit in a way that unsettles you, "and I do know how different siblings can be."
Your mother gives a small hum, a reminder and reproach at once. You fix your shoulders and do your best to meet the duke's demeanour. You bow.
"Yaw gwace," you raise your head slowly.
You see the subtle twiddle in his long fingers, the way he brings them to touch the trim of his jacket, the tick in his jaw. The long breath that says more than he ever could. He leans back on his heel.
"Honoured to welcome you both," his tone betrays his judgement. How could he not notice? How could he not hear it? You are defective, not only in appearance but all else.
"And we are so grateful to be here. That we can continue on in this union of our names," your mother sits as a servant holds the back of her chair. The duke lowers himself as you do the same, watching the table.
"Mmm, yes, I have yet to discuss the amendment with my father but I'm certain they care not for which daughter I wed."
His meaning is clear. You are not as stupid as many believe. His father will not care but he very much does. Your insides freeze, cold and stiff, and you feel as if you might shatter. It is as bad as you expect, yet expectation rarely meets reality. No, it is worse. To sit and stew in being unwanted.
You sit at the vanity, watching your lips move. Over and over in the silent repetition. Slowly, painfully working at curving them, shaping them just right. In your head, you imagine the words clearly. ‘Your grace’.
You still and stare at your reflection. You summon your voice and pronounce the words aloud.
“Yow gwace,” you declare to yourself.
You try again. And again. Anon until your mouth aches from your endless attempts to get it right. The words are wrong. Two simple words and you can’t say them. Two syllables. You drop your head forward as you plant your elbows on the table and catch your forehead.
You see the duke’s disappointment. You feel it still. How could he not be utterly repulsed by you? He alluded to a portrait, no doubt he was sent an image of your sister, and how he would have been surprised to find her even more attractive than the artist’s rendering. But in you, he is entirely dissatisfied.
You blow out a long exhale and prop your chin up on the heels of your hand. You look at yourself through bleary eyes, tears wobbling just on the edge. You sit back and drop your hands, smoothing the front of your dress and over your skirts.
The embroidered brooch draws your gaze. The oval pendant your sister made you, a blue bird on its face. Your most treasured piece. She reminded you of it when you said your farewell and you assured her you could never forget it. She asked you to wear it at the wedding.
You cradle it in your hands and give a bittersweet smile. You think of those days you played in the pastures and hopped over the fence where the sheep chewed on grass. How she would fearlessly run between the thick-bodied beasts as you worried for being bit. She has always been the braver of you two.
You pin the brooch to your dress and admire it in your reflection. You push your shoulders back and force a smile. You look yourself in the face.
“Yow gwace, I am so honawed to be yow wife.”
Your words hang like a noose. You throw your hands up and grunt in frustration. Stupid! You sound insipid. No matter how you try, or how the words sound in your head, they just come out all muddled.
“Edith,” you whimper, “I cannot…”
You lean forward and hold your head once more. You sit, ears thrumming, temples pulsing, your whole being hot with despair. The futility floods you and makes it hard to breathe.
There’s a knock at the door. You push yourself up, dizzy as you teeter on your feet. You swallow and stand as straight as you can. You lift your chin.
“Come in,” you beckon firmly.
Doreen lets herself through and you can’t help the relief that flows through you. You could not face your mother or the duke or another stranger. You lower yourself back to the stool and rest an elbow on the table, sideways as the maid eases the door shut. She lingers there, her hand on the oblong handle, as if she thinks to pull it open and flee.
“Doween,” you murmur as concern winds its way up your spine and tingle in your nape.
“My lady,” she faces you and you hear a sudden shriek. Your mother.
Doreen lowers her lashes and puts her hand to her chest. A shroud falls over you, even as the sunshine casts a yellow glow through the room, even as birds titter without, and ornaments sparkle all around. Her tone says more than any words can. You slump and stare at the maid’s wool collar.
You feel along the front of your own dress and clasp your fingers around the brooch.
“Edith is dead,” you say before she can.
She sniffles and comes forward. You shy away, turning to the vanity as you unpin the pendant. You lay it down and stand. The maid halts, hovering as you walk to the window. The tweeting of the sparrow grows to cacophony then silence all at once. The sky fades and the greenery hazes to an ugly smear.
You told Edith you would be brave. So you must. You can never replace her truly, but you can keep your promise. For her.
