#he also let me pet his head a little while giving him a treat yesterday

I have had this sweet cat as a foster for about 5 months now. His name is Bamse.
Tumblr media
He used to hide all day, and only come out when I was out of the flat for 5+ hours, or when I went to bed. He grew up in a forest around some cabins, with his mother and 2 younger brothers, one of who is a male Calico. He was the least social of all of them, and the hardest to catch.
Tumblr media
This was the only picture I got while he was at the shelter. He was desperately trying to get out at first, and terrified of everyone.
He needed to have a broken canine pulled, and a salve applied to the wound. He was scared stiff while people put the salve on, but at the end of his treatment he became quite aggressive.
It was then decided that he couldn't stay there anymore, as it didn't do him any good. And he came home with me, as people at the shelter know I'm good with scared and "difficult" cats.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is now quite social, but gets embarrassed if I catch him spending time with me while I sleep. So he will leave if I give any sign to knowing that he's there when I wake up.

“Rise and shine boys.”
It was always so nice to wake up in the loving embrace of your hybrids. You were never cold, and you never felt alone. Of course you had to get a bigger bed in order for all of you to fit, and they’d certainly fight at times as to who got to sleep by your side. At one point you had to set an order so they’d stop fighting. You didn’t want any of them getting hurt over such a trivial thing. Although the order wouldn’t stop them all from piling on top of each other to bombard you with morning kisses. It was an excellent wake up call.
“Alright, alright, that’s enough!” You giggled. “I have to get out of bed at some point.”
“No you don’t.” Beomgyu whined. “Let’s have a lazy day…”
“If I don’t get up to work, who’s gonna pay for your expensive treats? We might have to make some budget cuts.”
“What? No! That’s not fair!”
“We can have a lazy day on the weekends.”
“You heard the girl.” Soobin remarked. “Come on, we gotta get her out of bed.”
“Wait, what?”
Before you knew it all the boys had scrambled up and were grabbing you, pulling you out of bed. They were all laughing as you told them to take it easy, but soon enough they had you on your feet and were pushing you towards the bathroom.
“I’ll get started on breakfast.” Yeonjun volunteered. “Come on Tae.”
“What? Why me!?”
“Let’s go.”
They had all learned to do more around the house to help you. Their cooking was pretty good, but they always loved your home cooked meals the most. For work you now had your own little office at home. It was a nice set up, although you had to lock the door to keep the boys out. They’d still whine at the door, especially as it got close to lunch time, but you had to keep focus. It was much easier on everyone knowing the other was simply behind a door. Of course Soobin knew where the emergency key was in case they ever needed to get to you, but that was a secret between you and him.
You still preferred being home, you had everything you needed there, but your hybrids weren’t just pets. They had to look out for your health too, so they’d be taking you to the park to get some air, even if it was under the guise of them needing a walk, every now and then. There were also some hybrid friendly events that would be happening in the area where you could all go have fun together. Everything seemed to work out for you guys, and you couldn’t be any happier. It was a blessing that you found them that day cause you couldn’t imagine where you would be now without them.
“Y/n…”
“Hm?”
Sundays were mainly days to lounge around and watch TV. You were laid out on the couch with Kai resting on top of you. He found himself dozing off as you mindlessly pet his head and scratched his ears.
“I feel funny…”
“Huh? Are you sick?” You put your hand on Kai’s head. “You don’t feel hot.”
“I’m tingly…”
“Tin- where?”
“Hm?”
“When was the last time we played together?”
“Yesterday…”
“I meant intimately, Kai.”
Kai’s ears immediately perked up and he looked over at you, wide awake. You chuckled upon his reaction, petting his head again.
“You said you felt funny?” Kai nodded. “Any idea why?”
“I think so…”
“Ya! Ya!” Beomgyu came over and shoved Kai off of you. “What about me! We haven’t played in a while too!”
“Beomgyu! You can’t just shove Kai like that!”
You helped Kai sit back on the couch, giving Beomgyu a slight glare. Thankfully Kai wasn’t hurt, but that certainly wasn’t nice.
“Beomgyu, apologize.”
“Sorry…”
“Meanie.” Kai stuck his tongue out.
“Ya, I don’t want you two fighting.” You pet both of them. “Now, Beomgyu, were you eavesdropping?”
“A little bit… only one of us can lay on top of you at a time…”
“Ah, so you were jealous and waiting your turn?” Beomgyu nodded. “That’s very cute. Next time you should ask Kai to share.”
“But he’s always hogging your attention!”
“It must be hard when there’s five of you and only one of me.”
“Very.”
“Are we still gonna play…” Kai mumbled.
“You still feel funny?”
“Yeah…”
“Can I play too?” Beomgyu asked.
“Two on one doesn’t seem so bad.”
“Yes!” “Awesome!”
♥♥♥♥♥
You got used to playing with them, so even when it was more then one you always seemed to be the last one standing. It was cute to watch them sleep for once, although you made a note to change the bedsheets later. You quietly got up and went to shower, leaving the other two to rest. You went over to the kitchen but stopped when you heard the news.
“Another hybrid protest took place this afternoon. What started off as a peaceful demonstration evolved into a riot. Law enforcement officials kept things to a minimum, avoiding any casualties, although 46 people were sent to the hospital for treatment. Most hybrids that participated in the riots were arrested on the scene, but officials are still looking-”
“Soobin.”
“Hm?”
“You okay?”
You weren’t even sure how long hybrids had been around, but it felt like things would eventually develop in such a manner. As of late more and more hybrids were gathering together, asking for equal rights. They didn’t want to solely be pets or labor to people anymore. You could understand where they were coming from, although it did make you worry about your boys.
“I’m fine, why?”
“The news… how do you feel about it?”
“I’m happy where I am. We all are.”
“Okay. Let me know if you ever need to talk about anything.”
“Of course.” Soobin offered you a smile. “We do need to go grocery shopping soon.”
“Ah, tomorrow after work we can go. If you guys want something special for dinner we can get the ingredients too.”
“Great. I’ll discuss it with the others and let you know.”
“Thanks.”
Everyone adored grocery trips, although you always had to be firm with them about what they put in the shopping cart. You always made a list to make sure nothing was missed, and used it to make sure they weren’t too greedy.
“Y/n, can I have these?”
“I’m pretty sure your other box of treats is half full, Yeonjun.”
“No! It’s half empty!”
“You still have snacks at home. Next time you can get some.”
“Please, pretty please, I want these!”
“Yeonjun.”
“Please.” Yeonjun whined. “Please, please-”
A sudden scream took everyone by surprise. The boys immediately came to your side, looking around for the source. They didn’t need to wait long as more screaming erupted and people started to run. You heard as things were getting knocked over, and then there were the sounds of barking and roars.
“We need to get out of here.” Soobin stated. “Now.”
Soobin took your hand and started making his way to the nearest exit, the others right behind you. Although it wasn’t long before you found yourselves in trouble. Three hybrids got in your way, snarling and hissing. Your boys did the same, although you told them not to cause trouble. There was no reason to fight.
“We’re not some pets!” One of the hybrids yelled.
“Why are you protecting some human!” Another growled.
“Mind your business.” Taehyun snapped. “We can do what we want with our lives!”
“Is it really your life?”
“Not all humans are bad!”
“I’m not listening to a domesticated house cat!”
The hybrids moved to attack and Kai pulled you away from them, keeping you safe for the time being. You didn’t want anyone to fight, and when other hybrids were drawn to the commotion you got fearful. Kai kept you behind him, but he had to bare his own claws and fangs to keep you safe.
“Stop it! There’s no reason to hurt each other!”
You hated seeing your boys get hurt, and you couldn’t just continue to watch. You grabbed the nearest weapon-like object and hit the hybrid that was attacking Taehyun. The hybrid snarled and turned back to you only to get another hit in the face. While they were distracted Taehyun grabbed them from behind and threw them to the ground. You then ran over to help Beomgyu, only for another hybrid to get in your way. They roared and then you felt a pain in your chest.
You dropped your weapon and looked down, seeing the blood and claw marks on your chest. As the smell hit you everything started to blur. You could vaguely make out the hybrid taking another swing at you, but you didn’t feel anything. You collapsed to the floor, adding a throbbing pain in your head to the numbness that was consuming you. The second the boys had smelled blood they rushed over to you in a panic. Soobin had attacked the hybrid that hurt you, punching their face in until they heard sirens. From there all the other hybrids scrambled away.
“Y/n, stay with me.”
Yeonjun had you in his arms, Kai putting pressure on the wounds. They were all trying not to cry, talking to you so you stayed awake.
“Are you… are you ok…”
“What about you… why did you…”
“Don’t get hurt… over me…”
“Ya, we’re your emotional support hybrids.” Taehyun mumbled. “We’re supposed to take care of you.”
“Beomgyu.” Soobin called. “The sirens, go get help. We can’t move her like this.”
“Okay.”
“Y/n, hey, stay awake.” Yeonjun gently shook your head. “Tell me how you feel.”
“Uh… cold… but comfy…”
“What do you want for dinner?”
“Hm… are you gonna cook?”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever you want.”
“Then… surprise me…”
Kai laughed. “You trust him that much?”
“Yup…”
“Keep talking. Your birthday is coming up, what do you want to do?”
“Birthday… you… what about you… your birthday… we should celebrate you too…”
“We don’t really know our birthdays.” Soobin said. “We can figure that out together.”
“Yeah… I like that…”
Beomgyu came rushing back, paramedics right behind him. As much as they didn’t want to let go they had to step away as the paramedics took care of you. They got you on a gurney, taking you outside. The boys closely followed, but none of them were allowed to go with you in the ambulance. The paramedic did let them know what hospital you’d be taken to, so they could find you there. Soobin knew they wanted to argue but he held them back. There was chaos around them, firefighters and other paramedics around.
They had minor injuries that didn’t require much attention so they figured they’d start making their way over to the hospital. Although amidst all the chaos police officers wound up arresting them, mistaking them for participants in the riot. They all tried to argue that wasn’t the case, that they were just helping their caretaker and needed to get to the hospital. Of course their story wasn’t believed and they wound up in a transport vehicle with other hybrids. It wasn’t until they were at a police station and being identified that the truth was revealed.
From there the officer was nice enough to call the hospital and check on your status, and to also check their story. With the situation cleared up they were let go, and Soobin made sure to ask for directions. Lucky for them it wasn’t a long walk to the hospital from the station. When they arrived Soobin asked the front desk for your room, thanking the nurse. They all headed up together, relieved that you were okay. Although upon getting to your room they realized there were two security guards outside and blocking their way.
“We’re her hybrids.” Soobin explained. “We’re here to check on her. Just tell her we’re here, she’ll let us in.”
“…”
Soobin knew the others were getting an idea to fight their way in but they didn’t need any more trouble. The night was already dragging on. Before Soobin could try to reason with the guards, someone stepped out of the room in a suit, clearly not the doctor.
“Excuse me, who are you? Why did you come out of y/n’s room?”
“And you are?”
“We’re her hybrids. We’re her emotional support hybrids so we can be here. The guards won’t let us in though.”
“Ah, so you’re the offenders.”
“Huh?”
“Security. Have them arrested.”
“What!?” Kai yelled. “On what grounds!”
“For attacking your owner.”
“That wasn’t us! The riot-”
The two security guards tried to arrest them, but this time around they weren’t going to let themselves be taken so easily. Of course this drew attention and more guards came, and eventually the police showed up as well. Things had never been this difficult for them on the streets. With all this commotion going on Beomgyu took the chance to break into the room, seeing you for a moment before being tazed. He tried to fight it but the shocks eventually cut his world to black.
♥♥♥♥♥
Instead of finding themselves behind bars, the boys woke up in a different cage. They had never been here before, but they heard about it. A hybrid pound. Kai was tugging at the chain door, but it was no use as he was still recovering from being tazed.
“Why are we here?” Yeonjun asked. “We didn’t do anything…”
They weren’t the only ones locked up. The other cages around them also housed some other hybrids. Some were beat up, others seemed like they had been here a while.
“That’s a dumb question.” A hybrid hissed. “Humans don’t treat us with any respect. They’ll throw you away with the thrash without a second thought.”
“Not all humans are like that.” Taehyun snapped. “You guys are the ones giving the rest of us a bad name!”
“Not every hybrid here participated in riots. Some here were taken off the streets, or taken from the place they thought was home. You say humans aren’t bad but you’re here with the rest of us now.”
“Something’s wrong.” Kai whimpered. “Why didn’t they let us see y/n?”
“I don’t know, but we’ll be okay.” Soobin assured. “When y/n gets better and realizes what happened she’ll clear everything up. She’ll get us out of here and then we’ll go home.”
A hybrid scoffed. “Keep dreaming.”
Since they didn’t know your condition there was no real way of knowing how long your recovery would take, so all they could do was wait. The days went on, they were fed some weird slop, but they kept hope. They couldn’t help but worry over you, but they knew you were in a hospital and getting treatment, so you’d be okay.
“Isn’t it your lucky day.” A staff member came over to their cage. “You’re going on a trip.”
“We’re gonna see y/n!” Taehyun cheered. “Finally.”
“Something like that.”
When taken out of the cage the boys were still chained up, that should have been the first red flag to them. They were escorted outside and into the back of a ban, their chains secured to the floor.
“Is all this necessary?”
“We did start a fight in a hospital.” Soobin reminded. “They’re being cautious.”
“Not our fault they didn’t let us see y/n.” Yeonjun grumbled.
“Just behave. All of you.”
“We know.”
It felt like eternity before they arrived at wherever they were supposed to be. When the door opened they were met with more security guards. The chains weren’t removed and the were escorted inside the building. It seemed quiet, except for a few people, but none of them really knew what was going on.
“Guys…” Beomgyu whispered. “I think this is a courthouse…”
“What?”
“It looks like the ones on TV.”
“Why would we be here?”
“No idea…”
Beomgyu’s guess was correct, and soon enough they entered a courtroom. None of them liked this, moreso when they saw you next to a stranger. It wasn’t a stranger for long as Soobin recognized the person next to you as the one that had them arrested in the hospital. He growled under his breath but Yeonjun elbowed him to stop. They were all confused over the matter, and they shouldn’t do anything to make it worse. You of course were their biggest concern. You were sitting next to that jerk, still dressed in your hospital clothes and sitting in a wheelchair. It looked like you hadn’t even noticed them, and that you weren’t entirely present either. The boys were moved to stand next to another gentleman that introduced themselves as their lawyer.
“Lawyer!” Kai questioned. “Why do we need a lawyer?”
“The prosecution is pressing charges against you.”
“For what?”
“The injuries y/n-”
“We got caught in the recent riot, she got injured there!”
“I know. We’ll run with that, but on that same note, the riots will certainly make it harder to convince the judge.”
“We’d never hurt her.”
“I know. This shouldn’t really be a case, but some prosecutors really have it out for hybrids as of late and will do anything to hurt them. I’ll do my best to get you all back home.”
They all had so many questions, so much worry over you. Especially how anyone got you roped into this mess. If anything this was the time you needed them most and they hadn’t been by your side at all. Once the proceeding began they could only sit back and watch how all these things unfolded. Although most of them would continue to stare over at you. Even from a distance they could tell you were tired, probably should still be in the hospital too. When they weren’t looking at you their gaze was to the prosecutor. This whole thing seemed suspicious, but they couldn’t do much about it right now.
“The hybrids present are registered as your emotional support hybrids, correct?”
“Yes.”
Everyone seemed to know you weren’t in a position to be on the stand and talking about anything, but it seemed that the prosecutor insisted you were fine.
“Was this your idea?”
“No, I had-”
“It wasn’t your idea?”
“No…”
“Did they, the hybrids in question, suggest it?”
“Yes.”
“Okay. And our records show you didn’t adopt from a shelter. So, where did you find them?”
“They were living on the street.”
“Had you interacted with them before?”
“Not really…”
“Not really, or not at all?”
“Not at all.”
“So what compelled you to take them in and adopt them?”
“I… they were cute… and I didn’t want to leave them on the streets…”
“You have a good heart. Unfortunately that’s something that can be taken advantage of.”
“What?”
“A while after you adopted those hybrids you stepped away from your job, opting to work from home, correct?”
“Yes.”
“So they have more access to you?”
“I don’t see-”
“Yes or no?”
“Yes…”
“Your honor, this has gone on long enough. What’s the point of all these questions?”
“I’m getting there.”
“Please proceed.” The judge spoke.
“Very well.” The prosecutor cleared their throat. “The hybrids in y/n’s care have been taking advantage of and abusing their owner.”
“Excuse me!” Soobin snapped. “On what-”
Security and the others were immediately getting Soobin to sit back down and be quiet. He wasn’t the only one mad over the absurd statement, but it was hard on all of them to just sit there and watch.
“As I was saying. These hybrids took advantage of y/n’s kind nature. Most people adopt one or two hybrids, but five at a time? That’s quite a big responsibility. They outnumber their owner, and can over power them with ease. Furthermore they suggested becoming her emotional support hybrids, meaning they can follow her to more places. On top of all that her recent injuries-”
“Your honor, those injuries are a result of an attack from rioters.” The lawyer cut in. “They did not hurt their owner.”
“Do you have proof?” The prosecutor asked. “The sudden riot surely put her on edge and her memories of the event may not be clear. It’s the perfect scenario to hurt her and-”
“On what grounds do these hybrids have to hurt her?” The lawyer questioned. “They’ve never done so before.”
“But they have.”
“What?”
“I had further tests run on miss y/n, revealing multiple scars, as well as fading claw marks and bites. Such injuries are known to be caused by hybrids. Miss y/n has received previous abuse by-”
“They didn’t hurt me.” You stated. “I… I engaged… with them… in-”
“Coercion and manipulation. They forced you-”
“We didn’t do anything!” Yeonjun yelled. “She agreed-”
“Sit down.” The lawyer hissed.
“Your honor.” The prosecutor spoke. “Given the information we’ve just learned it’s safe to say miss y/n is not in a good state of mind, and requires psychiatric help. These hybrids have been taking advantage of her in many ways and should not remain in her custody.”
“That’s not true.” You said. “None of that is true! It was my decision, they didn’t-”
In your attempt to change the narrative you had gotten up too fast, making yourself dizzy and pulling on your stitches. You nearly collapsed but a security guard caught you. Now everyone was concerned. Kai couldn’t help himself and jumped over the table, chains and all, wanting to get to you. Security tackled him to the ground though, and the others got rowdy too. Chaos erupted but they weren’t going to get anywhere near you. When they had been restrained the judge slammed their gavel and made a decision. Ultimately siding with the prosecution.
The boys had to be dragged out of the courtroom, screaming out your name, but you couldn’t respond. Once outside they wound tased and thrown back into the van that brought them here. They were mumbling and thrashing around in their restraints. They couldn’t believe what had just happened, and they all wanted to wake up from the nightmare. Instead they wound up back in a cage, left with nothing but despair. It all felt so unreal, and they didn’t even know what came next. They were no longer your hybrids. The prosecutor having made them out to be monsters that used you and hurt you. They weren’t even sure if you were aware of what had happened.
“Wa… what do we do now…” Taehyun mumbled. “Y/n… is she gonna be okay…”
“We can do an appeal or something.” Beomgyu said. “Right? The… the evidence…”
“Something is very wrong here.” Soobin remarked. “That whole situation… y/n… something is going on…”
“What are we supposed to do?” Yeonjun asked. “They got us locked up in cages and we have no idea where they took y/n.”
“I… I don’t know…”
“We have to get out of here first.” Kai added. “We can’t do anything in a cage.”
“Yeah… yeah that’s a good starting point.”
With a goal in mind they could all ease their nerves and focus on something else besides your well being. For the next couple of days they were quiet and well behaved, watching the staff and trying to get as much information as they could. They needed to know the rotations, as well as who had the keys to their cage. It was hard, but they still had enough information to form a decent plan. Although when they found themselves ready they received some horrid news.
“Good news you animals. We’ll no longer be keeping you here.” The person chuckled. “Your kind on the outside has caused enough trouble to justify putting all of you down.”
Those words immediately caused an uproar. Every hybrid yelling and yanking on the cage doors. It didn’t help them break free, and terror filled the atmosphere. The boys were panicking, their whole plan just thrown out the window. Before they could think of an alternative the whole building shook, the lights flickering for a moment. The staff member rushed out of the room, leaving the door open. From there everyone else could hear the loud screams. Next thing they knew a handful of hybrids came in, unlocking all the cages.
More chaos erupted as the ones who had been locked up scrambled out of their confinements and towards the nearest exit. They boys held back for a moment, letting things settle down before making their own escape. On their way out they could see other staff members being attacked and the fires that had erupted in the facility. This wasn’t their problem, so they ignored it and made their way outside. Things weren’t actually better out there. Now it made sense why they were freed. The world outside was on fire, both figuratively and literally. A major riot had broken out, and there was panic and all types of chaos around them.
“Wa… what do we do?” Taehyun questioned.
“The hospital.” Kai said. “Y/n would have been taken back to the hospital, right?”
“Do we even know how to get there from here?” Beomgyu wondered. “I don’t even know where we are.”
“I know where to go.” Soobin stated. “Let’s just try to avoid this mess.”
“That’s easier said than done.” Yeonjun commented.
“We just need to get to y/n, nothing else matters right now”
It wasn’t going to be an easy journey through this mess. Both humans and hybrids alike were looting, setting fires, and fighting one another. Sirens could be heard all around, and any law enforcement officers had their hands full breaking up fights. The boys stuck to the shadows, not wanting to draw attention to themselves, but there were still the crazy who just wanted a fight. They couldn’t avoid injury, but they stuck together and chose to run when they had the chance. Even as daylight began to illuminate the world the madness persisted. It was starting to become clear this wasn’t just one chaotic night, but the beginning of something else. They didn’t care for it, focusing on their mission.
It felt like a dream come true when they arrived at the familiar hospital. Although upon stepping inside they realized things weren’t great here. They didn’t care about anyone else though, making their way up to the floor you were on, pushing past anything and anyone that got in their way. All the pain felt worth it when they reached your room, but when they stepped inside they found it empty. Your patient information was still on the bed and outside the door, but you were nowhere to be seen. Kai and Beomgyu immediately went to check the rooms next door, finding them all empty too.
“There’s no one here…”
“They must have evacuated the patients.” Yeonjun realized. “She’s long gone now.”
“There has to be a record of where they sent her though, right?”
“Maybe.”
The boys found the nearest desk, lucky to find a computer logged in. Soobin typed in your name, finding your file. Although there was nothing in there about being transferred. According to the computer you were still in the hospital.
“There’s nothing…”
“Where would she go then?” Taehyun asked. “Where would they take her?”
“To one of the nearest hospitals.” Beomgyu said. “But which one?”
“How would we know?”
While they were discussing, Yeonjun was scanning his surroundings. Without telling anyone he ran off and tackled someone to the ground. The other guys rushed over, seeing that Yeonjun had a nurse pinned down. Before they could question him Yeonjun asked the nurse what had happened, and where patients would be transferred to. They gave them a list of hospitals, and told them that once an explosion had gone off nearby evacuation procedures were started. Many patients were moved before the chaos reached the hospital here.
“What do we do now…” Kai wondered. “She could be anywhere by now… and with the riots… we’ll wind up arrested won’t we? What if we get killed! We almost got-”
“Kai, calm down.” Taehyun pulled him into a hug. “We’ll find her… we will…”
“How…”
“I don’t know yet…”
“Soobin.” Yeonjun spoke. “What should we do?”
“We go home.”
“Huh?”
“We can’t be out on the streets right now, and we need to figure out our next move.”
“But-”
“Y/n’s in a hospital, she’ll be okay.”
“No.”
“What?”
“We have to go find her.” Beomgyu stated. “She’s alone and-”
“Look around you, Beomgyu. Everything is on fire, people and hybrids alike running wild. Look at yourself too, you’re no in condition to be traveling to another town. None of us are.”
“…”
“If we’re not okay, she’ll worry. Besides,” Soobin took in his surroundings. “I don’t think things are going to calm down easily after tonight.”
“What do you mean?” Taehyun questioned.
“Let’s just go home first.”
It was strange to be home without you. They had gotten used to you always being near them, the furthest you ever were was behind a door, but to not have you there at all, it felt wrong. They cleaned themselves up, and watched the world unfold from there. The news reported how the riot they experienced wasn’t just an isolated incident, but one of many that took place that night. To a degree they really had been sheltered, fortunate to have a roof over their bed and a loving owner. Many others weren’t so lucky, and the disparity between humans and hybrids had reached its tipping point. None of them could have ever imagined a revolution taking place.
A couple of days after they got home the news stopped broadcasting, all the channels just stopped. They all knew things had certainly taken a turn for the worse, and their worries over you only grew. It was probably just as dangerous, if not more, to go out into the world now, but circumstances have changed. They packed up some supplies, having their list and directions so they could go out and find you. Soobin kept the emergency phone with him, all of them holding onto the possibility of you calling them. They even left a note at home in case you came back while they were gone.
“So… where do we go first?”
♥♥♥♥♥
When the boys had first set out on their journey they thought they’d find you and be together again in a matter of days, a week or two, but now here they were, months later. Cutting communications was only the beginning. They didn’t really know what was going on with the world, but they only cared to find you. In the coming months they became nomads. They traveled to all the possible locations you could be, but the result was always the same. You weren’t there. Either the hospital itself was in shambles, or you weren’t on record. They even checked with the Jane Does, although none of them wanted to even fathom the idea that you were truly gone.
They weren’t the only nomads around. Many hybrids, and people, found themselves without a home. The world had turned into a dystopia in a matter of weeks. No one really knew what the future held, or how the world would move forward, but what kept them going was finding you. So as they traveled they asked about you, hoping someone had seen you, or perhaps knew where you were. They had pictures of you, and a few of your items, although the scent was faded. It was hard to keep hope, as everyday that went by felt like they were getting further and further from you until they finally had a breakthrough.
“You recognize her?”
“Yeah, she seems familiar.”
“Seriously, hold on a second.”
The boys had been in an abandoned building with some other lost souls, trying to keep warm for the night. They’d take a picture of you and spread out to see if anyone recognized you. For the most part the answer was no, but when Taehyun got a yes he freaked out. He scrambled to get one of your old shirts out for the dog hybrid to smell, and they nodded.
“Smells like her.”
“Where is she? Where did you last see her?”
When the others had heard Taehyun questioning someone they rushed over, also throwing questions at them. Soobin had to tell them all to calm down and listen.
“She was pretty quiet, traveled with some hybrids. They took care of her but it was obvious she had been through some things. I saw the group again without her and asked, they said they had left her in a care facility.”
“A what?” Yeonjun questioned. “Care facility?”
“I heard that’s where they’ve been keeping humans, no idea what goes on there though.”
“A care facility… hybrids run it?”
“Yeah. Some places are starting to rebuild.”
“Hybrids on top…” Soobin mumbled. “Seems surreal.”
“Better than being beneath humans.”
“They weren’t all bad…”
“But the ones in power mostly were.”
“Yeah…”
“I hope you find her. I’m assuming she was your owner?”
“And we were her emotional support hybrids.” Kai commented. “We took care of each other…”
“She seemed like a good person. I’m sure she’s alright and will be happy to see you.”
“I hope so.”
It was reinvigorating to have a destination in mind, to know for certain that you were alive, and that they could actually see you again. Of course now there was the issue of finding this care facility, and they soon learned there was more than one. Thankfully that wouldn’t be much of a problem. When they found one they inquired about you, showing your picture and giving your name. You weren’t at that location, but you were in the system and they were given the address. They all stared at that piece of paper for a while, unable to believe this was where they could find you after all this time.
They wasted no time making the journey, setting little time aside to actually rest. When they arrived at the care facility they were told you were there. They stood outside for a moment, a strange disbelief gripping them tight. There was fear that maybe this was all a mix up, that they had rekindled hope only to be back at square one. Still, they had to know so they made their way inside. They went through the whole intro and asked about you again. It took a moment but it seemed that this was the place. Another hybrid came over and introduced themselves, intending to show them around the facility.
“What is a care facility…” Taehyun mumbled. “What do you do here…”
“It’s in the name, we care for humans.”
“Why though… they did a lot of bad things…”
“And we’re not them. Besides, not all humans are bad. You’re here to see the human that was once your owner, right?”
“Yeah…”
The facility was a lot bigger than they expected, and there was a decent number of humans there. They seemed to be doing alright, happy even, as if the world hadn’t fallen apart.
“Where’s y/n?” Kai asked. “I don’t see her around here.”
“Y/n is a special case.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Don’t worry, she’s doing well, but her situation requires extra attention. She’s kept in her own room and attended to personally.”
“Why is that the case?” Yeonjun asked nervously. “What happened?”
“It’s… complicated… are you aware of the war that went on?”
“We avoided that.” Soobin answered. “And kept to ourselves while we traveled. We were lucky not to get so involved.”
“Indeed, but unfortunately y/n didn’t share in your fate.”
“What do you mean?”
“Humans were well aware they did not match us in power, even with their toys, and they’re own kind weren’t lining up to take arms. Supposedly some organization rounded up those that were injured by hybrids, intending to turn their hurt into anger and get them to fight.”
“Are you saying… y/n was tortured…” Beomgyu whimpered. “… she… she…”
“I only have the basic information of what happened. Any details… well I honestly don’t know where you could get them, the hybrid that dropped her off here let us know of her past. She never set foot on the battlefield though, the only injury she has is the one on her chest.”
“Oh… but she’s okay?”
“She’s doing well.”
The boys were led away from the main facility and to a more quiet area. They passed by multiple rooms, seeing some humans behind the glass. Eventually they came to a stop, all of them stepping closer to the window. They didn’t see anyone, but they could tell someone was lying in bed under the sheets.
“Can we see her?”
“I’m afraid not.”
“What?”
“Given her circumstances she can’t have unauthorized guests.”
“But it’s us.” Yeonjun countered. “She knows us, I’m sure she’s missed us as much as we have.”
“I understand you knew her in the past but-”
“We came here to take her home.” Soobin stated. “Now let us in.”
“Home? She is not leaving this facility-”
“Ya!”
Yeonjun suddenly tackled the other hybrid, searching them for a keycard. When he got it he tossed it over to Taehyun, who quickly got the door open. No one needed to be told what to do then, they all rushed into the room. Soobin knelt down by the bedside, carefully pulling back the cover. He couldn’t describe the joy he felt in seeing your sleeping face. He carefully brushed a strand of hair out of your face.
“Y/n…”
The others were also overjoyed to see you again, and Yeonjun made his way inside when he had a chance. Soobin pulled back the cover some more, revealing something unexpected. In your arms you had five plushies. Three dogs and two cats, all different styles but the colors of the fur matched them.
“Y/n… hey… sweetie… wake up…”
“Hm…”
You groaned, rubbing your face against the pillow. You peeked your eyes open a bit, seeing Soobin. A soft smile appeared on your face.
“Hi…”
“Hi… it’s so good to see you again…”
“You’re always in my dreams…”
“Dreams? Y/n, this isn’t a dream. It’s real, I’m here, we’re all here.”
“Huh?”
You felt a hand gently pet your head, reaching up yourself and feeling the warmth attached to it.
“Soobin…”
“Hi.”
You sat up and reached over to touch Soobin’s face. Tears began to sting your eyes as you realized he was real. He gave you a soft smile, wiping away some tears. You jumped into his arms for a hug, starting to cry. Then you felt another hand on your head, looking over to see the rest of your boys there too.
“… you… you’re all… real… you’re here…”
“Yes, yes we’re here, we’re real.”
“Get them out of here!”
“What!?”
What appeared to be security entered the room, grabbing the boys and trying to drag them out. You saw the commotion and held onto Soobin tighter.
“No, no, no, no, don’t go, don’t-”
“Everything’s going to be okay.”
As the two of you were surrounded Soobin kept a hold of you. He was grabbed, his arms being pried off of you. He tried to hold on, to fight back, but the second they could pull you away they started a commotion. You screamed and thrashed, crying for Soobin until you felt a pinch in your neck. You were left to sob until you passed out. Soobin continued to fight though, but was ultimately carried out of the room and thrown back out to the lobby with the rest of his brothers.
“Give her back to us right now!” Beomgyu yelled.
“That’s not going to happen.”
“And who are you!”
“The person in charge of this facility.”
“She’s not someone you can just keep!”
“And what right do you have to take her?”
“She’s ours!” Yeonjun stated. “We took care of her and-”
“You took care of her?”
“We’re her emotional support hybrids.”
The owner scoffed. “Very well, say I let you have her, where will you be taking her?”
“Home.”
“And where is that? Under a bridge?”
“We have a place.”
“And is it still standing? Do you have a means of providing for her? Food and other necessities. What about looking after her health? Her condition does require medication, and her injuries must be looked after with care. You said you’ve been traveling since this whole disaster started, she can’t just travel with all of you, so what is your plan here?”
“I… we…”
“We are not our predecessors. They handed over our kind to any human who could pay enough, not interested in the type of person they gave us too, or the plans they had for us, or if they were even capable of looking after us. We are not them. I can see she means a lot to you, I understand why she refused to let go of those plushies she has, but if you wish to look after her now, you need to prove that you can actually take care of her.”
“How exactly are we supposed to prove that?” Taehyun questioned.
“Right now many of us are in a state of rebuilding. Find yourselves a home, some stability, a way to continue your lives in a manner that can allow you to look after her and keep her safe. She’ll be here until then, I promise you that.”
♥♥♥♥♥
It was weird to walk out of that place without you. They had found you, and yet they couldn’t take you home. Then again they didn’t have a home. They hadn’t had one since they lost you. They were so close, and yet still so far.
“What do we do now?”
“We go home.” Soobin said.
“What? But-”
“We go home, and make sure we can actually look after y/n.”
Some wanted to argue, but considering how things just went down, they weren’t going to get to see you any time soon. It was a rather long journey home, but they made it nonetheless. The town they once called home was in ruins to a degree. They were fortunate enough to find the apartment building they had left behind in one piece. It wasn’t easy to get in as they had to move some ruble out of the way, but they got inside and went up to their old home. From the outside everything seemed okay, but there was only one way to know for sure. Soobin still had the key, and he was a bit shaky as he unlocked the door.
There was no light inside, electricity was cut off long ago. The sun was still out, so they had daylight to illuminate their path, and some flashlights. It was haunting to walk in there. Everything was still in its place, covered in dust, like time stopped. Yeonjun grabbed the note they had left behind in case you came back, crumbling it up in his hand. It had been so long since any of them had been back here, and it felt unfair to come back without you. Still, you weren’t lost in the world anymore, they just had to make this place a home again and they could all be reunited.
“Let’s get started.”
They got to cleaning, making the place feel like a home again. The rest of the building was abandoned, and soon enough they noticed clean up crews in the area. It really did appear that the world was rebuilding. Since no one else was around Soobin thought about taking over the building, getting it cleaned up properly and providing homes for those who needed it. He never imagined he’d wind up a building owner. It was kind of nice though, making friends with other hybrids. They had always stuck to themselves before when on the streets, and even when you adopted them they mostly stayed home. Before everything changed they were probably on the verge of a new chapter, but they took a detour.
About a week later things kinda felt like before. It was eerie to look out the window and see the world turning. The only difference was that the streets were occupied by hybrids and not humans. That was the only change. Everyone was kind, it was more of a community as they all helped each other out. They didn’t have to worry about food, or any other living necessities. Life felt like a dream, but it wasn’t complete, not yet. When the big day came everyone was giddy. Soobin was happy to see them all happy, but the big thing still had to be done. Yeonjun was also overjoyed to actually get to drive. Before it had been old junk cars, but this, this was a beauty.
“How long is the drive?” Kai asked.
“A couple of hours.”
Beomgyu whined. “We’re gonna be gone all day?”
“We’ll be home by nighttime.” Soobin explained. “So don’t worry.”
A road trip was fun. Usually it was the things you did along the way, but they were excited for the destination. They could see how much things had changed, how the world had grown. Although they all got serious upon arriving at the care facility. It was still there, and as the promise went you’d still be there too. Soobin took charge, being the first one in. Things did look different, but he kept himself together, at least one of them had to.
“We’re here for y/n.”
“Hm… follow me.”
Soobin couldn’t imagine what you went through when adopting them. They just got taken to the vet and got their shots. Who knows what you did on the other end. This was probably the closest he’d get.
“How is she?”
“She’s been well, although after your last visit, and your actions, she’s needed some extra care. I’m sure she’ll be happy to see you.”
They were led back over to the room you had been in before. This time though they could see you were awake, sitting in the corner with a book in hand, your plushies in your lap.
“We’re not gonna get dragged out by security again, are we?” Taehyun questioned.
“No, but that depends on her. If she’s alright with you, then everything will be fine.”
This time they were allowed in. When the door opened you looked up, you were expecting a staff member but instead saw some familiar faces. Tears stung your eyes and you got up, rushing over to your boys. They met you halfway, pulling you into a hug.
“Are you really here?”
“Yes, yes we are.” Yeonjun assured. “And we’re gonna go home, for real.”
Yeonjun wiped away your tears, placing a gentle kiss on your forehead. He helped you to your feet, giving you a piggyback ride. Beomgyu picked up your plushies following behind and played with them a bit. You hadn’t been outside of your room in so long, so it was a bit scary. You snuggled against Yeonjun, just holding on. If this was a dream you didn’t want to wake up. When you stepped outside the fresh air was nice and you took a deep breath.
“Pretty…”
“Just like you.”
Kai opened the back door of the car, getting in first and then helping you get in. Before Yeonjun could get in, Taehyun shoved his way inside, reminding him that he was the driver and wanting to sandwich you in. They each held one of your hands, Kai nuzzling your neck and making you giggle. Beomgyu hopped in after the others, Soobin doing a headcount, staring at you fondly for a while before shutting the door.
“Do you have everything?”
“Yes.” Soobin answered. “I’ll make sure she takes her medication, and we’ll keep a close eye on her injuries.”
“They’ve mainly healed by now, but still need care. The last thing to note is that you will need to bring her back for an evaluation.”
“I understand.”
“Then you can be on your way. Expect to hear from us in a few weeks.”
“Will do.”
Soobin got in the car, hearing your laughter. The two with you were tickling you, smiles on everyone’s face. This whole scene was different, but it was right. The journey home had a lot more happiness, but as night fell everyone in the back fell asleep. Now it was just Yeonjun and Soobin in the front.
“Is there anything I should know?” Yeonjun asked.
“About what?”
“Being y/n’s owners. The roles have changed for us.”
“Not entirely. We still look after each other, we’re just the ones responsible for her this time.”
“And that’s not a common thing. Hybrids having humans around.”
“Not yet, but I’m sure that’ll change. Not all humans were bad.”
“True.”
When they arrived back home the pair gently woke the others up, but they let you sleep. Soobin got you out of the car and carried you inside. Although as they got to the apartment you began to wake up. Seeing your home, it made everything else feel like a dream, and you had finally woken up.
“We… we’re home…”
“Yeah, we’re home.” Beomgyu kissed your cheek. “Finally.”
“Let’s get you to bed.” Taehyun smiled.
“No, I want to stay up.”
“You’re gonna mess up your sleep schedule if you stay up.” Yeonjun pet your head. “Besides, I’m sure we’re all tired from the trip.”
“Okay…”
You had a little pout, but let Soobin carry you over to the bedroom. He put you down and you crawled over to the center of the bed, snuggling the sheets. It all smelled like home, and it made you feel safe. One by one the others crawled into bed too, cuddling you and holding you close. You hadn’t noticed the silent tears on your face, but they did. Kai gently wiped them away, whispering soothing words that you were alright, and nothing bad was gonna happen again. Even if you wanted to stay up, you wound up easily falling asleep, surrounded by the warmth of your loved ones.
♥♥♥♥♥
Even if the boys were overjoyed to have you home, they found themselves having some trouble sleeping. They’d wake up randomly, seeing everyone else asleep, or maybe even catching another awake. Still, they returned to sleep, that is until Beomgyu woke up to discover you were missing.
“Y/n… y/n!”
His panic woke the others up, and they all quickly scrambled out of the bedroom, running around the house. When Taehyun found you by the window he called out to the others, going over to hug you from behind.
“There you are…”
“Hi.”
“Don’t scare us like that.”
“You were all sleeping so peacefully, I didn’t want to wake you.”
“Still.” Soobin said, coming over. “We were worried.”
“Sorry…”
“It’s okay. We’re all still here together.”
“What are you doing up?” Yeonjun asked. “Trouble sleeping?”
“Yeah… I didn’t see much before, but now… things have changed… it’s the same view, but it’s also not…”
“Things have changed.” Soobin agreed. “But we’re all together again.”
“Yeah…”
“Y/n.”
“Hm?”
“When… or if… you ever want to talk about what happened… we’re here for you.”
“What about you? What happened to you? That night… and the coming days are fuzzy…”
“Are you sure you want to talk about it now?”
“I want to know…”
Soobin pulled you close to him, holding your hand. Daylight was peeking over the horizon, slowly welcoming the new day.
“After that incident… we wound up arrested, mistaken for rioters. We cleared things up at the station and got directions to the hospital. Although when we got there there was security. They wouldn’t let us in your room… and we got arrested for real…”
“What happened at the hospital?” Taehyun asked. “Why couldn’t we see you?”
“I’m not so sure… I was given medication… I remember someone looking over my wounds… talking about revenge… that whole court scene… I don’t know what happened… but you’re okay right?”
“Yeah, of course.” Yeonjun assured. “We got separated from you and… the world changed, but we’ve been looking for you ever since.”
“You lived on the streets again?”
“We had to find you.”
“Hm…” You stared out the window. “I don’t know what happened to me… it’s all a blur… yelling and pain… talks of revenge and helping… none of it made sense… I didn’t know what was happening… or what was going to happen… but I was so worried about you…”
Tears started falling down your cheeks, and the boys gathered around to comfort you. Beomgyu wiped them away, kissing your head and assuring you everything was okay.
“We’re all okay now. This isn’t a dream.”
“Promise…”
“I promise.”
“I’m so sorry…” Soobin added. “If we hadn’t… we should have stayed home…”
“It’s not your fault.” You reached over to pet him. “What matters is we found each other again.”
“I’m sorry…”
“We’re here now.”
“I know…”
“How did you…” Taehyun mumbled. “The place we found you… how did you get there…”
“I’m not entirely sure… I was rescued from that hell… the hybrids were so nice… and we traveled together but… I know I wasn’t all there… and I knew I was holding them back…” You took a moment. “Where was I? The hybrids were nice…”
“It was a care facility.” Kai explained. “No idea who started it, but it’s a place where humans are looked after and safe.”
“Like an adoption center… things really got flipped around.”
“I don’t know much about adoption, but we’re gonna take good care of you.”
“I know you will. Shall I make breakfast?”
“I can do it!” Beomgyu volunteered.
“Let’s do it together.”
In a strange way things did go back to the way they were, although you no longer had a job. It was like your weekends had been extended indefinitely, but you didn’t have to worry about anything else. When you asked about it Soobin just told you it was his responsibility and not to concern yourself with it. To a degree it left you feeling a bit uneasy, but you had to trust him, and remind yourself how it was before. You never burdened them with your struggles of work, or made them worry about the roof over their heads. You figured it out and worked hard, now they were doing the same for you.
Now that you had more time on your hands you focused on some old hobbies. You got better at cooking, even tried your hand at pastries. The amount of flour you’d have to clean up was hilarious, and the boys certainly looked funny with it in their fur. Overall, everyone was happy, and that’s what mattered most. You could enjoy every day without a worry in the world. Although there were things you kept to yourself, or at least you thought you did. The boys were aware you had trouble sleeping, waking up from nightmares that you wouldn’t remember in the morning. It would probably be worse if you didn’t take your medication.
They had gotten used to waking up over your soft cries, pulling you into their arms and holding you close until you calmed down again. They’d never bring this up to you, wanting you to remain happy and healthy. Whenever you’d sleep in someone would stay with you too, making sure you weren’t alone. Everything was good, and because of that they had forgotten about an important event coming up. Well, the little ones seemed to have forgotten but it remained fresh in Soobin’s mind. Not to mention as the days went by he started to get concerned about it.
“Why don’t we go out today?” Kai asked. “To the park or-”
“I wanna stay home.” You chimed in. “Let’s have a movie night. We can be in a big cuddle pile.”
“That sounds great!”
No one seemed to notice at first, and Soobin wasn’t concerned either, but he soon realized there was a pattern going on.
“Y/n, what are we missing in the pantry?”
“Oh, I can make you a list.”
“You gonna come with us to the store?”
“I thought we had items delivered to us?”
“Yeah, but we want to go out today.” Beomgyu said. “You should come.”
“Uh… I’m good.” You smiled. “Just be safe, and hurry back.”
“Will do.” Taehyun cheered.
Yeonjun stuck back with you, chilling in a pillow pile on the floor with the TV on. You were mindlessly petting Yeonjun, humming to yourself.
“Y/n.”
“Hm?”
“Should we make plans for a little journey?”
“What do you mean?”
“I’m curious to go to some places and see what they’ve become.”
“They’re probably all better, or gone.”
“But don’t you wanna go see?”
“I’m okay. I can see a lot from out the window.”
“You’re right. Just an idea.”
When the others came back you jumped out of your seat to help them, wanting to put all the items away and discuss dinner plans. Yeonjun stayed put, soon joined by Soobin.
“Hyung.”
“Hm?”
“Y/n hasn’t been out of the house since we brought her home.”
“I know.”
“Her evaluation is coming up.”
“I know.”
“I don’t think she’s gonna wanna go…”
“I think you’re right.” Soobin sighed. “We need to bring it up before the day of, and talk about this.”
“Any idea why she’s like this?”
“The last time she stepped outside she didn’t come home for months. I understand why she’s not eager to leave, for anything.”
“True.”
“We’ll talk to her tomorrow, so let the others know, but in secret.”
“Will do.”
Soobin was dreading this, alright imagining the worst case scenario. You probably weren’t going to be happy with the conversation, but it couldn’t be avoided forever.
“Morning, y/n.”
“Hi, Soobin…”
“You sleep okay?”
“Hm… yeah…” You snuggled against him. “You?”
“I always sleep well when I have you.”
“Me too.”
“It seems like a nice day, should we go out?”
“Nah… let’s have a lazy day.”
“That’s not a bad idea.” Soobin took a breath. “Y/n.”
“Hm?”
“Your evaluation is coming up.”
“My what?”
“It’s your check up.”
“Oh, a doctor is gonna come here?”
“No. We need to take you back to the-”
“Take me back?” You got up. “Take me back where?”
“The care facility you were at so they-”
“Why?”
“For a check up. You-”
“Someone can just come here.”
“Y/n, I know you’re scared, trust me, I’ve been there, but everything’s going to be fine. We’ll leave in the morning and-”
“No.”
“No?”
“I don’t wanna go.”
“You have to. It’s impor-”
“I said no.”
You got out of bed and left the room, Soobin quickly chased after you. He grabbed your arm and pulled you back, although you fought against him.
“Let go!”
“Y/n, we need to talk about this.”
“There’s nothing to talk about. I don’t want to go.”
“You have to.”
“You can’t make me!”
“Y/n, you haven’t been out of the house in weeks now.”
“I’m fine!”
“No, you’re not.”
“I am! And if I’m gonna go out it won’t be for some dumb check up!”
“It’s not dumb! You have a huge scar on your chest and you have trouble sleeping sometimes!”
“I… I do not…”
Soobin sighed. “Y/n, please. Everything-”
“No! I said no!”
“Y/n…”
The others had heard the commotion and came over to the hallway. They knew Soobin was gonna talk to you, but they hadn’t thought it would turn into shouting. Taehyun stepped towards you, taking your hand.
“None of us ever liked going to the vet, we were scared something would happen and we wouldn’t come back home with you… so we get you’re scared…”
“I’m not sick.”
“We know, but it’s still important to have a check up, and it’s more than just that…”
“A lot happened.” Beomgyu added. “We just want to make sure you’re okay.”
“But I-”
“I am not losing you again.” Soobin stated. “And if we don’t go for your eval, they’ll take you away.”
“… wa… what? Why?”
“Cause we have to be better.” Yeonjun said. “We have to be sure we can and have been taking good care of you.”
“But you are, I trust you and-”
“A lot has changed, remember? Humans may not have always been nice to our kind, but we won’t make them suffer the way we have.”
“So check ups… and all that… are mandatory…”
“Yes.”
“We’re all gonna go and come back.” Kai remarked. “It’ll be a road trip, and nothing bad is gonna happen. We promise.”
“You can’t promise that…”
“But I can promise that no matter what happens, we’ll be together.” Soobin pulled you towards him. “No one is ever going to separate us again, I promise, we promise. We love you.”
Soobin pulled you into a hug, the others soon joining in. They all surrounded you, making happy noises and making you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. You still had a lot of worries, but in times like this they reminded you that you still had them, you always would. You had each other, and nothing was going to change that, not even if the world changed around you.
“I love you all too.”

Dice the stray cat!✨
He only Dice by being Dice.
Warnings: just some food and shelter for Dice
Dice stray cat x reader!
° "Again?" It was already the fifth day that he did this, you couldn't keep taking care of him. Sitting on the floor in front of the front door of your house, he was sobbing low because he thought you didn't want to let him in. "Please please, today will be the last time of the week" Clasping his hands in supplication, he crawls in your direction.
° "Come on, remember to take a shower too" you say as you push the door and let him in first. He's been at your house so often that he already knows all your rules. He takes off his shoes at the entrance and runs to the sector where he was sleeping earlier.
° a blanket, a pillow and a change of clothes are on the couch in your living room. "Ahhhh, home sweet home!" He exclaims reaching over the mess. Despite being far away in the kitchen, you shake your head when you hear it. If he continues to stay like this you might seriously consider charging him rent, even though at this point he's closer to being a pet than a guest.
° You prepare dinner and table, waiting for him to come out of bathing. "Ready" he comes running with a towel on his head and his wet hair, giving you a big smile. There's something weird here, he can't have showered that fast.
° You smell his hair and yes, it's clean but his clothes are the same. "Hey! You didn't take a shower, you just cleaned your head! Go to the shower now!" You point in the direction of the bathroom while his smile fades "but yesterday I took a bath and before yesterday too and the day before that too!" He makes the gesture with his fingers indicating how many days he was bathing waiting for you to let him pass this one.
°"well, without a shower there is no dinner" you take his plate off the table, the complaints automatically begin "you can go to sleep, good night" you open the pot and act as if you were really about to eat. You really just want him to be scared enough.
°"Wait, wait!" He hugs you tightly "I promise to take a bath after eating" he looks into your eyes, blinking very often hoping you will fall into his gaze. Since you can't defend yourself very well, you close your eyes and start counting to 10, he panicked, he runs to the bathroom and slams the door hard.
° Some time later he comes out properly bathed and he extend a towel for you to dry his hair while he makes little noises of happiness, something that has become a habit. he loves the feeling of your hands and how despite being so strict you are very soft with him.
° Sitting at the table when you let him, he waits patiently with cutlery in hand and a smile. The first portion barely lasts a few minutes on his plate, praising your food, he asks for a second and third portion.
° "the last one" you say when you give it to him. Since he comes here you deliberately cook extra portions. Seeing how much he enjoys your food is a treat in itself and he is slowly gaining a place in your heart.
° With his stomach full, he helps you clean the table and order the kitchen. Once this is done, he runs to his makeshift bed, pulling the blanket over him and waiting for you to kiss him goodnight.
° His eyes attentive to you, they light up when you sit next to him on the couch and brush his hair. Smile bringing his head closer so that you continue with the pampering. He covertly begins to wrap his body around you and you have no choice but to follow. His head goes to your lap for more comfort and there he stays.
° "I have to go to sleep" he whines when you move. "Sleep here with me" but you don't even contradict him. kissing from him on the forehead and wishing him good night, you enter your room, ignoring his complaints.
° In the middle of the night, he bursts into your bedroom wrapped in the blanket claiming that he is cold, asking if he can sleep here. You sigh angrily, if you deny him, he will wait for you to fall asleep and he will also lie down at the foot of the bed.
°You give him one last angry look, hoping to scare him off but he gives you a look of abandon that you can hardly compete with. Giving up you allow him to rise
° Without wasting a second he jumps into your arms and settles down to be the little spoon, wishing you good night with a kiss on the forehead that takes you off guard, but he doesn't give it much importance. He only wants to be close to you.
………….
° The next night he is not waiting for you at the door. Instead, there's a small package signed in his name and addressed to you. Inside is a bracelet so pretty you doubt he would have chosen it. The night after that he didn't show up at your house either but instead there was another gift at the door
°Is it supposed to be like this now? Leaving offerings at your door? You were about to destroy his place on the couch, but on the third day he was already in front of your house asking for asylum. It seems this alley cat really likes you.

Tw: talks about training a dog, mentions 'the old way' which was borderline abusive, poor pet owners, mentions loosing a dog, briefly mentions spanking.
.
Tldr:
My older family members got a puppy. They don't treat him properly, due to being stuck in their 'old ways,' and I'm in shock of how much of a difference there is in old days vs recent times dog ownership. I'm working to have them interact with the puppy properly, and he's doing well!
.
Had a puppy come into my life recently. It's interesting (and a bit saddening) to see how different some people treat animals; especially when it comes to a person's age.
So, one of my family members decided to get a puppy a few months ago. He's a gorgeous chocolate coloured aussie. Anyways, this family member is, well... getting on in life. So I decided to help them out with the pup, because they're not as able-bodied as they used to be, and I'm missing my own dog who passed earlier this year.
And y'know, I'll be the first to say that despite growing up with dogs, it took me a long time to actually understand them; and I keep learning new things everyday! Up until recently, I thought I had a very basic knowledge of them, until I saw my older family members interact with the puppy. Oh boy... let's just say that their methods are very outdated and they've forgotten a lot about training.
The most interesting (and sad) thing I've picked up on, is that they don't really see the puppy as a living thing in the same way that I do? Like, of course they know he's alive and a little guy we have to protect, but... just in the way they treat him, you can see that they don't have any sort of respect. It's either their way or the high way.
There's no trying to work *with* the dog, the dog is simply expected to obey them, and somehow obey them right away..? In the beginning, they were frustrated that he wasn't listening to their commands. Meanwhile, they hadn't even bothered to teach him any! They just shouted at him and expected him to understand. They also refused to use treats as an incentive for the pup, because apparently it's 'spoiling him.' They didn't handle him the best... the first time the pup was introduced to his leash, my family member grabbed him by the collar and just snapped it on, then walked away with him freaking out. My heart broke when I witnessed it, I was frozen in shock, and I wish I would've said or done something, because that whole method was ass-backwards.
Anyways. I am actively trying to get my family members to interact with our puppy appropriately. This means little to no yelling (at least when I'm around), giving him treats when he listens and engages in behaviour we want, diverting and redirecting attention properly (not just yelling at him), and absolutely no manhandling. It's a fight every day, and they still think I'm spoiling him with the amount of treats I give, because apparently positive reinforcement isn't a thing 🙄 /s. But, we're working on it.
I don't want to sound like an asshole, but it's pretty clear to see who the puppy trusts more when we're all together. Up until yesterday, my family thought that the pup was just miraculously listening... yeah, no. I do training sessions with him every day, but sure, you randomly yelling at him to sit is totally working, lol.
It's kinda crazy that they can't wrap their heads around positive reinforcement, attention diverting and redirecting, negative attention, and respect. I've explained it to them so many times I've lost count. I've had hour long conversations about it, tried to talk about it in different perspectives, other analogies, but they just revert the minute I leave. It's frustrating as fuck. I know I'll eventually make a breakthrough with them, but it's gonna take a while. It's just, I want to do everything in my power to not let this dog be set up for failure.
My mind goes to two separate little dogs I know and their families. Let's call them P and L.
P is, well, what a lot of people picture as the classic little dog. Filled to the brim with tons of attitude, quick to show aggression, run off, etc. Y'know how P's family treats her? They don't respect her personal space, they antagonize her 'jokingly,' and haven't done much training with her (I can't recall if she even knows how to sit!). She doesn't have many toys around the house, either.
Now, let me tell you about L. L is a similar size to P, also female. She's very chill and laid back, will freely come up to you for love, and is well behaved. Her family treats her with respect and routinely gives her enrichment toys/treats, keeps up with her health, and has her trained to listen to basic commands.
Can you see the difference? This might not apply to all dogs, as they all carry their own unique experiences, fears, etc. But, the difference is clear. Giving your dog respect, enrichment, and training them will set them up for success in life.
So, it saddens me when I see my older family members making these mistakes. Mistakes that actively set back our puppy's training AND harm their relationships with him.
What makes them think that behaving like that with an animal is acceptable? I often wonder if it's due to a lack of patience and using emotions first, over thoughts. Like how people who spank their children will do it out of their *emotional* reaction, not logical. It just sucks.
Anyways. To end off on a high note, our puppy is doing great! In this short time, he's gone from having multiple accidents in the house a day, to maybe a few a week. He's learned how to sit, give us his paw, come. He's doing well with bite control, having his paws and tail touched, etc. He's working on (and getting better at) not jumping up at people, coming when we call him (even while distracted!), and learning to stay. I'm so impressed with his progress, despite the inconsistencies and behaviour of my older family members. I can only hope he continues to thrive and be the best boy he can :).

This is based off of what happened yesterday ( or Wednesday, July 27,2022)
Warnings ⚠️ : This is a F(Y/N) because I'm a female and that's how I was feeling that day, mention of  a dress
This is fluff (I think? There may be some angst for the fact that the dog has a bit of separation anxiety but other than that I think it's fluff)
There may be a part two depending on the events of the days before I write and post them,
But until then I hope that you enjoy
Kitsu-chan♡
~~~~♡Table of contents ♡~~~~
(D/N)= dog name (preferably male)
(D/N/N)= dog Nickname
(Y/N)=your name (this is female (y/n) BTW)
~~~~♡the story♡~~~~
"Do you like your hair, hunny?"  My mom asked me as we exit the hair salon."Mhm, I love it!" I exclaimed as hope down the stairs.
As I reach the bottom I look up at my mom. She chuckled as she shook her head.
"Well we should get back to your dog, I'm sure he's panicking," she says as we cross the road and head to our car.
"Ya I guess (D/N) is worried," I chuckle as we reach the car.
~~~~♡later ♡~~~~
"We are here~! (D/N/N)" I say as we pull into the driveway of my dad's work, after my mom parks I open my door and go see my dog "so, how was he?" I asked my dad,
"Well, he was just saying wear he was and hiding from me, as usual." I chuckle as I crouch down and pet (D/N) as he hides from my dad as he unties his leash and hands it to me.
"Come on puppur, let's get in the car for a road trip," I say as I open the back door of the car and get in as my mom and dad go get his bag with his stuff, after a little bit (D/N) released that were going on a road trip and hops in the back.
I pet (D/N)'s head as I talk with him about random things while my parents are walking back with his stuff. "Did you get (D/N) in the car? " my mom asked as she handed me the bag. "yup he got in by himself after a bit but he seems like he wants to go on a trip." I say as I take the bag and look for (D/N)'s treats and give him half of one (my mom broke them in 3 pieces because my dog Riley didn't need a whole one, also they are the beef jerking dog treats, - note from kitsu-Chan). I get up and get out of the car and close the back door and open the front passenger door and sit and get buckled and close the door.
As mom got into the car she started the car and buckled herself. "Well, see you later!" I yell wavering to my dad and his co-workers.
On the way home (D/N) lade his head on the thing in the middle of the two seats (I don't remember what it is called, but if you know please let me know- note from kitsu-Chan)
~~~~♡when we got home♡~~~~
We got out of the car and went inside. I took off (D/N)'s leash and went to sit down as he followed me, my mom sat on the couch and pulled out her phone and did stuff on it as I pulled out my tablet (I don't have a phone but if you do then you can pretend that it says phone - note from kitsu-Chan)
I played some games for a bit until mom fell asleep, I got up and went to put on my shoes and grabbed (D/N) leash as he jumped in excitement, as I lend down to clip the leash on his collar he laid down and should me his stomach, I pet his stomach and clipped I stand up and open the door to let him outside.
"Let’s go down to the mailbox, (D/N/N)!" I say as we walk to the end of the driveway and  head down to the mailbox, as we walk to the mailbox (D/N) sniffs the grass that is along the side of the road, we stop at the mailbox and  I opened it to see if there was anything in it, but it was empty.
We turnaround and start running up the hill to our house but I stop for a moment and pull up the side of my dress and we continue on our way home as we reach our driveway I'm out of breath but (D/N)
Drags me to the door and wants for me to open the door.
After we get inside I take off the leash and my shoes. We head out to the living room(or family room whatever you prefer) . I sit back down on the chair and (D/N) lays down on the floor as I play on my tablet.
My mom woke up and turned on the TV and Xbox. She went on Netflix and watched a TV show for a bit until she had to leave for something.
Later my dad came home and we talked for a bit and he said that I can go for a nap and he can take care of (D/N).
I went to bed for a bit and then my dad came in to wake me up for dinner.
"Well, if you want you can go back to bed for a little more (Y/N)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~♡the end for now ♡~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope that you enjoyed reading this and if I made some mistakes please let me know
See you soon
A/N: Planning to post some finished requests tonight thankfully but I wanted to share something super self indulgent with you guys since I just recently got an Alexa! I'm still kind of in a funk (since classes are STILL not over with) so thank you everyone for your kind words in my inbox q wq For now I only have Riddle and Leona...but if everyone likes it I'll make an effort to finish! I kinda am working on Azul's as we speak >:3 Warnings: Boys missing you terribly, Riddle justifying the breaking of rules and Leona realizing that he is talking to an inanimate object.
The Ramshackle Prefect leaves to go to RSA for a month, following a lead that could get them back home. And while the dorm leaders do miss them terribly, it seems one of them is hiding something.
. .
“AZUL-SHI DO SOMETHING.”
The Octavinelle dorm leader barely listened to his friend's request as he also crowded over Idia’s phone, the other five dorm leaders looking down at the screen as a pair of familiar eyes stared back at them.
“Where is Idia? Can you please hand me back to him?”
Riddle blinked at the sprite on the screen before looking back at Idia with a frown.
“Explain yourself, Shroud.”
Idia whimpered as he hung his head low in shame.
“[Y/N]-san...I mean...the Prefect left to go to RSA for a whole month, right? Crowley said it was to help them find a way back home but apparently there was some trouble there too and...and he brought them to fix it...”
Malleus’s neutral expression changes into something a bit sadder while Kalim lets out what everybody was thinking.
“To take them away so suddenly...I didn’t even get a chance to give them a goodbye party!”
“They’re only away for a month, Kalim.” Vil’s eyes stay on Idia’s phone screen.
“But I’m sure a party would have let them know how much I would miss them!”
Riddle clears his throat, “That still doesn’t explain anything about what I am seeing. Why in the world do you have something that looks like...that looks so much like them on your phone!”
Idia was sure this was hell. Of all the people to catch him using his phone during a dorm leader meeting, why did it have to be Riddle? What was he even supposed to answer to that question! That he missed talking to [Y/N]-san about the new animes that were releasing this week that he had purposefully made an AI from data Ortho had collected on them and their mannerisms?
He would rather die!
“I--I was testing a new AI! Just...for schedules and stuff like that! And I didn’t have anything else to base it on so I just took [Y/N]-san’s information and made a prototype! It’s not just going to go out to the public like that! They can customize it however they like--!”
Azul hums as he taps the screen, the sprite giggling as he touches their cheek before looking up at all of them expectantly.
“...A prototype, huh.” he smiles and leans back while taking his phone out, “Everybody stop crowding around him, we might as well be breaking his arm slowly at this point.”
The rest of the dorm leader's move back with only some protest, Idia’s eyes shining as he looks up at his other friend.
“Azul-shi…”
The dorm leader of Octavinelle grins, “If it’s a prototype then that means it needs users, correct? More people to test it out?”
“Eh?”
Azul puts his phone in front of Idia and smiles at him like he was just about to close a rather important business transaction.
“Well then I want the prototype as well. Download it to my phone, will you?”
“Eh?!”
Idia presses his phone to his chest as if Azul was about to take it, looking around nervously as the other dorm leaders take their phones out and set it in front of him.
“If it’s an application for scheduling then I could use it to keep Heartslabyul’s matters in check. I’ll take one too.”
“Ruggie is gonna be busy during exams...this thing better work as an alarm.”
“Surely this would help me keep track of my schedule for both the Monstro Lounge and school. I’ll take one with a statistics program built in, Idia”
“Oh!! I want mine to be able to sing! And can I also get them in Scarabia’s dorm uniform? I want to see what [Y/N]-san would look like!’
“I’ll take that as well. I also want a photo re-touch feature as well as one hour updates as to what is going on in my Magicam account.”
Each phone was placed in front of him as Idia felt his head start to spin. He just wanted to keep this thing a secret only for himself! He wasn’t even planning to release it, it was all just a lie so they wouldn’t know his greatest shame!
A shadow was casted over him, Idia looking up slowly as Malleus smiled and placed his phone down.
“I am eager to see your finished product, Shroud.”
Tumblr media
The tarts in front of him looked absolutely delicious.
Trey had really outdone himself this time. The strawberries were cut into perfectly neat shapes and the glaze over them made them so mouth wateringly shiny that he could practically taste the sweet treat without even having to taste it!
Which only made his want of one grow even more.
“And here comes the next batch.” Trey smiles as he puts down another plate in front of him, Riddle’s eyes now staring at that plate while his vice dorm leader cleans himself up.
“When did you say the Unbirthday party was going to be today?”
“A-At three o’clock sharp.”
Trey nods as he looks at the clock in the kitchen.
“Perfect. I promised to meet Jade to get some herbs he has been growing as well as letting him teach me how to make this one soup they had in the Monstro Lounge about a week ago.”
He grabs his phone and heads out, leaving Riddle with a quick goodbye and a promise that he would make it back as quick as possible.
Leaving him all alone with two plates filled with his favourite treat.
The dorm leader looks around once...then twice...checking if anybody was coming into the kitchen before going back to stare at the plates.
It wasn’t like he was going to grab one
The Unbirthday party today would be using pastries that Trey had made yesterday. It was the third of the month so the rules required a completely different pastry. The strawberry tarts were most likely for tomorrow.
So Riddle could wait. He was the Heartslabyul dorm leader after all so not only could he wait but he was required to wait! As the dorm leader he was to set an example and he couldn’t let himself be seduced so easily by just two plates of such yummy looking tarts--!
He quickly takes his phone out and looks down at the screen, face flushing as he tries to remember how Idia told him to open up the new app.
“[Y/N]-san…?”
A face peeks out from the corner of his phone, smiling as it recognizes his face and steps out while giving him a polite bow.
“Good morning, Riddle-san! What can I help you with?”
He can’t help a small rush of excitement at seeing the Prefect’s face after not seeing them for two weeks. Riddle would make an effort to stop and talk to them whenever they made their way to Heartslabyul that not seeing them for so long had almost thrown him off his schedule.
And...he missed the conversations he had with them.
As the dorm leader and a student in NRC he didn’t necessarily have time to go to any other events or take part in any of the shenanigans others would get up to, not that he necessarily wanted to, but it was entertaining when the Prefect talked about it with him.
It felt like they were letting him into their world.
So maybe this substitute would suffice...it was a scheduling app after all so it wasn’t like he was using it for pleasure only.
“Would you please repeat rule 56 of the Queen’s handbook?”
The AI clears their throat as a book animation appears before them.
“Rule number 56: On the third of April, black tea should be served along with pineapple tarts. Followed by a game of cards in which the loser must pour the Queen tea for the rest of the Unbirthday party.”
Riddle sighs as he looks back at the plate of tarts.
“...I guess I’ll wait until tomorrow…”
“Wait until what?”
He looks down at the AI, the sprite blinking in confusion as it waits for an answer. Idia had mentioned adding a conversational feature…
“There is no rule about what to eat tomorrow so I decided that we would have strawberry tarts.”
“Are those your favourite?”
Riddle nods and steps out of the kitchen, making his way to his room as he stared back at the open door.
“They are. Ever since I was little. I couldn’t have many because of--”
He decides to not go deep into the subject.
“I’m sure Trey’s pineapple tarts will be excellent. I will just have to wait until tomorrow to enjoy the strawberry ones.”
The AI hums before the book animation pops up again, looking down and flipping a couple of pages before speaking up.
“Riddle-san. While it does say that black tea should be served with pineapple tarts...it does state that it should be done for the Unbirthday party and the Unbirthday party only.”
He frowns, “Your point?”
“I am sure no rule would be broken if only the Queen has a tea party before the Unbirthday party. From what I am seeing here--”
They flip a couple more pages.
“There is no rule about a tea party of one enjoying a strawberry tart.”
Riddle blinks before looking down at his phone, the sprite smiling as they shut the small book and lets it disappear with a ‘poof.’
No rule would be broken...if it was only a tea part of one?
He looks down at the AI when he hears them giggle.
“Riddle-san looks really happy.”
A blush covers his face at being called out on how big his smile probably was.
“Did I help in any way?”
The dorm leader takes a deep breath before smiling as he looks down at the phone and presses his fingertip on top of their head, rubbing it back and forth as if they were petting them. Something he knew he could never really do with them in real life lest he was looking to get odd looks.
“More than enough. Would you like to accompany me during this tea party?”
“Yes please!”
Riddle nods before looking around once more and clearing his throat.
“And...would you refer to me as ‘dorm leader’ from now on?”
The sprite nods as they give him a polite bow.
“Yes, dorm leader!”
He would need to send his report of the app as quickly as possible, Idia had really outdone himself this time...maybe he could ask if he could get them dressed up in the Heartslabyul uniform?
Riddle still wished you would hurry back.
Tumblr media
“Leona-san! Please wake up!”
The blankets on the bed wriggled a bit as the phone was tousled over from one side of the bed to the other, the sprite inside frowning as they tried again.
“Leona-san! Please wake up! Ruggie-san texted you!”
A hand comes out of the blankets before holding the phone up.
“Read the text out loud then.”
Sighing, the AI pulls the text up and reads out loud.
“Please be awake by the time I get there, Leona. I need to make sure I get your signature on these papers for the dorm budget. If you don’t I’ll hold your lunch captive!”
Leona’s face finally pops up from under the blanket, the man sitting up and running a hand through his hair as he speaks up again.
‘Oi. What time is it?”
“It is 3:14 in the afternoon, Leona-san.”
“And when did Ruggie send the text?”
“At 3:00 o'clock.”
He groans and lays back down, the pillows flying about as he holds the phone to his face and smiling when he sees the sprite looking down at him worriedly.
“You really do look like them…” Leona whispers before tapping the screen so that he is poking the sprite’s cheek, “What is that face for?”
“I’m just worried for you, Leona-san. Too much sleep is a symptom of some sicknesses so--”
“Hah? You think I would get sick so easily?” he yawns and stretches, “I’m different from humans. Beastmen need a lot more sleep than regular humans do so...I’m just doing what my body tells me.”
Green eyes watch a notepad appear before the AI as they write down the information, smiling as they close it up and watch it disappear.
“I’ll keep that information in mind so I can serve Leona-san better. Thank you so much.”
Leona blinks at the words before a lazy smile crosses his face.
“Serve me better, huh? Never thought I would hear you say that.”
Usually the herbivore would be frowning and telling him to get up and actually take charge of his dorm and how he didn’t act like any grown up they knew. The sprite, however, tilts their head in confusion before speaking up once again.
“I am yours, after all.”
“Damn right you are.”
He looked at the phone a bit more, the sprite smiling up at him as he poked their cheek or patted their head. A part of him wondered if you would react like that with him as well. You always seemed so annoyed with his antics yet you never failed to come back to talk to him, telling him how he needs to get his act together if he is ever planning to go back to the Afterglow.
Leona would bet money that if he patted your head out of nowhere you would be highly flustered. Getting praise from him was something that didn’t happen often, after all.
“What day is it?”
“The 12th day of April, Leona-san.”
Another two weeks of you being gone. He frowns and closes his eyes as he thinks about you meeting those other students. RSA was just full of idiots...like his brother--
“Dammit.”
He slams the phone down but blinks when he hears a small yelp, turning the phone back around to find the AI looking rather frazzled with their eyes closed and hair all over the place.
“Shit. Are you....okay?”
Great, he was asking an application if it was okay. He could understand why Idia would hide this, right now he felt like he was crazy.
“Y--Yes! It was just unexpected!”
The sprite fixed itself up quickly and smiled back at Leona.
“Are you okay though, Leona-san?”
The dorm leader chuckled and nodded as they set the phone down gently and laid down next to it. At least that part was very much like you, worrying about others before focusing on yourself.
“You’re not going to complain? I almost just threw you.”
Without missing a beat, the AI stands up and looks at him.
“Leona-san is still working hard despite his body telling him to sleep. My program tells me that it would be a natural emotion to feel frustrated if you are not allowed to do something you want. Normal actions of frustration speak of physical manifestations such as kicking, punching or throwing. I was simply calculating it for it to be the latter and for it to happen towards a pillow. I’ll make sure to fix my calculations next time.”
He shakes his head and sets the phone down gently.
“Weird thing. You shouldn’t forgive someone so easily after they wronged you.”
“But you didn’t wrong me, Leona-san. I didn’t feel any pain. I just want to make sure you are feeling your best! You are my number one priority!”
This machine is going to make him go insane, he knows you would never say that but the fact that Idia had gotten your voice down so well that it was almost as if you had just told him he was your number one---
He was already getting a headache.
“Set an alarm for an hour. Ruggie will take around that long anyway.” Leona lays down and wraps the blankets around him.
“Of course. Alarm set for one hour. Would you like to be woken up with a personalized message?”
Leona hummed before grinning.
“Wake me up by calling me ‘King’.”
The sprite fixes its settings before giving a polite bow.
“Yes, my King. Please enjoy your rest.”
After this he would send his report to Shroud and maybe ask for an outfit upgrade. He only needed to show him some Afterglow clothes and the nerd would probably be able to make the AI wear them, right?
Whatever, the moment you came back Leona would make sure that you gave him some headpats for making him wait so long.
I have a request for your valentine's day event 🌸
It's with jae-ha from yona of the dawn. I travel with the group, joining a little bit after all the dragon warrior's were gathered together. I was traveling by myself, lonely and convinced I was just a beast meant to be hated and feared, as she can turn into a giant white fox, and many people she meets seems to have an instinct of caution. The group helped me see myself as more than a beast, jae-ha especially is encouraging by treating me as a girl, not a beast. It's an established relationship, formed after thinking his flirting was only him joking since he flirts with everyone for a good while, until he was able to convince me he's genuine with liking and wanting me. I'm not as strong as Hak or the dragon warriors, but I can hold my own in a fight. I'm a bit naive, sweet, quiet but always with a quip to add to banter with him, fierce when threatened, just wants to be liked and to care for others even if those people are the people who shun me, and dedicated to Yona like the others in gratitude and cares for everyone in the crew. Also, smol. He uses a lot of different pet names.
Jae-ha's Love Letter To His Girlfriend
I hardly get those, so this was a real treat--I love Jae-ha <3. I didn't mention Valentine's Day in this letter simply bc I don't think such a holiday exists in their time period LOL so this is just a random love letter bc Jae-ha is so romantic he can write one for his s/o anytime :D. I hope you enjoy!!]
PS: To all my followers who don’t know what ‘Yona of the Dawn’ is, GO WATCH IT RN and then go read the manga. It’s so good and so underrated 😩
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The group had been on their feet the whole day and finally stopped to set up camp, to your relief.
Jae-ha came over and took a seat beside you.
“How’re you feeling, my pretty lady?” He raises an eyebrow while grabbing one of your hands and leaving a kiss to its surface, maintaining eye contact the whole time.
“Doing good, just tired,” you lean your head on his shoulder as he draws small circle into the back of your hand, pressing gentle kisses onto your head.
“Take a breather, don’t worry about setting anything up, me and the rest of the guys will handle it all, so just relax your precious body, my love. Oh!” He proclaims and reaches into his robe and pulls out a folded piece of paper, “This is for you. I wrote it a few nights ago, so give it a read.”
You silently take the paper from him, surprised that he wrote something for you; you unfold and begin to read;
To My Beauty,
It seems like only yesterday when you appeared before us in your giant white fox form, looking scared and lonely, but relieved at the same time to see friendly faces. Thankfully, Yona convinced you that it was okay for you to approach us and as you did you transformed into your human form, cautious and worried about scaring us off–not that you could with that gorgeous face.
At first I thought you would be just like any of the other beautiful woman I have had a chance to run into, but we spoke one night and you let me into the darkest part of you heart, telling me your worries, fears, and insecurities and my heart ached for you.
I didn’t know why you couldn’t accept yourself as a woman, but only as a beast; it reminded me of how us dragons were perceived, though we may look like handsome young men, we were inevitably beasts, but Yona saw through that just like with you. And to this day all I see when I look at you in both your forms, I see the most beautiful woman I’ve ever laid my eyes on.
Who would have thought that the womanizer, Jae-ha, would ever commit and fall in love with one woman. You’ve turned me into a better man, a man who now only has eyes for you and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I will continue to shower you with affection and remind you every day of your beauty both inside and out. I can’t wait to continue our life together. I love you darling.
Yours Forever,
Jae-ha ;)
You remembered the day you first met the group and compared it with how you felt now. It was a drastic change from then–you felt a lot more confident in yourself and in your identity all thanks to the Happy Hungry Bunch, but especially your boyfriend, Jae-ha.
“Thank you,” you tell him, reading the letter over and over–you never thought you’d have someone love you like Jae-ha did, “I love you too. That was beautiful.”
“Not as beautiful as you though, my love.”
“Stop it~” you laugh, throwing your face into his chest in embarrassment.
You wouldn’t exchange your happiness for anything in the world–what a stroke of luck it was to meet the group that day. You couldn’t imagine your life without Jae-ha anymore.
The Waiting Game
Warnings: tickling, fluff
Word count: 3200
I'm not as happy with how this one came out as the last two, but if I keep thinking about it I'll never post it so... hope it's alright!
* * *
You knew you shouldn’t tell anyone. You knew there would be consequences. But it was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.
You had been taking care of your friend’s pet hamster while they were away for the weekend. For the most part, you’d kept it in your room in its cage to avoid bothering the others with all the noise it made overnight, running on its squeaky wheel at all hours. When everyone else had left the compound for the day, you decided the poor animal could use some real exercise. You had placed the critter in his little hamster ball and brought him to the common area so he could roll around freely.
Except, the little door that closed the ball wasn’t latched all the way. Oops.
Before you knew it, you were crawling around on your hands and knees trying to locate your friend’s pet. You left little snacks out around the room in hopes it would get curious and come out of hiding to munch on something. You were so focused on the task at hand you hadn’t noticed Loki had entered the room, until you heard his voice behind you.
“What in the norns are you doing?” he inquired. You turned to look at him, just as you saw a little fuzzy creature tear across the room and right in front of the dark-haired god. He let out a somewhat undignified yelp as he jumped back. Luckily, the hamster stopped at one of the treats you’d left for him, giving you ample opportunity to scoop him up in your hands. “W-what is that?”
“This is my friend’s hamster!” you explained, giggling at his reaction. “The better question is – what was that noise you made? Don’t tell me you’re afraid of this little thing?”
“Of course not! It merely startled me, is all,” he quickly insisted. You held the hamster out toward him, and Loki took a nearly imperceptible step backward.
“Mmhmm, ok. Not scared. Got it.” Grinning, you moved your hand back and petted the hamster gently on the head. “What would the others think if they knew you a tiny little rodent made you freak out?”
Loki narrowed his eyes at you. “Never speak of this,” he demanded, pointing a finger firmly at you to emphasize. He quickly left the room after that, likely to regain his composure.
But you couldn’t just not tell anyone about this gold nugget of information you’d just learned. So, naturally, you told his brother. And Thor, not one for keeping secrets, told everyone else. Needless to say, there was quite a bit of teasing over the next couple of days. You steered clear of the god, knowing he would not take kindly to your having informed the rest of the team about the little incident.
You couldn’t avoid him forever, though. A couple days later, after having returned the pet to your friend, you were making breakfast for yourself in the kitchen when Loki’s voice echoed from the doorway.
“You’ve been avoiding me,” he stated, his tone ominous. You turned from the stove to meet his eye, smiling sweetly to mask your nervousness at being confronted by the trickster.
“No, of course not! We just haven’t crossed paths,” you fibbed. He rolled his eyes.
“Oh yes – I suppose yesterday in the hallway you just realized you forgot something SO important you had to literally sprint in the opposite direction as you saw me approach?”
“Oh… alright, fine. Yes, I’ve been avoiding you. Wouldn’t you do the same?” Loki stepped into the kitchen, taking a few gradual steps toward you.
“You must know there are consequences when you cross me,” he warned. “You humiliated me, and so I think it only fair I do the same to you.”
“Well good luck with that, I’m an open book. There’s no secrets you can use against me,” you quipped.
“You see, I thought that may be the case, so I started querying the other Avengers,” he explained, now standing only a few feet away from you. Instinctively, you put down your half-cooked breakfast and took a step away from the advancing Asgardian. “Most of them had fairly useless information – scared of spiders, fairly standard human weakness… sleeps with a stuffed bear, which everyone already seemed to know about…”
“Please. That’s not embarrassing,” you huffed.
“…and then I spoke to the spider child. He provided me with some very interesting information about you.” Loki smirked, causing you to laugh nervously.
“Oh, do tell,” you urged, folding your arms across your chest, and trying to play it off as a laugh of disbelief. Loki had now backed you into the corner of the kitchen, which you hadn’t realized until your back met the cold plaster of the wall.
“He informed me that the only time he’s ever seen you truly flustered and embarrassed was during one of your sparring matches, when he accidentally learned about your little secret.” Realization dawned on you, and you tensed up immediately. “He described how you’d begged him not to tell anyone, and he hadn’t up until this point. Apparently he finds me threatening, so it wasn’t difficult to convince him to start talking.”
“I-I don’t know what he could possibly be talking about,” you muttered.
“I think you do,” Loki argued. He pounced at you, lunging with his hands aimed at your sides, causing you to squeak and curl into yourself. His hands stopped inches away from you, close enough that your skin tingled from sheer proximity to his fingertips. “You’re ticklish. Severely, based on that reaction.”
“Pshh, no I’m not! That’s… that’s ridiculous,” you denied, your lie exposed by your nervous giggles and blushing face.
“Mmhmm, I’m sure.” His hands darted toward your belly, again stopping right before he made contact. You yelped and whipped your arms down across your torso to protect yourself. Loki’s smirk only grew wider.
“Ok, fine. You’re right. Just… get it over with!” you begged.
“Oh no. Where would be the fun in that?” he chuckled, stepping back and allowing you space to move away from the wall. “I’ve got to build some anticipation. Catch you when you least expect it.”
“That’s just mean!” you groaned. Loki laughed again, turning around to leave the kitchen. Just before he left, he called over his shoulder.
“You’d better watch your back.”
* * *
Loki’s little game went on for days.
You were on edge at any given moment. Peeking around corners before entering rooms, listening through doors before opening them, trying to ensure your safety before making a move. You half expected him to jump out of nowhere and attack you with tickles on your way down the hallway, but it never happened. Still, you made your travel between rooms as brief as possible.
You wouldn’t say you were dreading the moment he finally did decide to pounce. In fact, in a way the idea made your heart flutter with excitement. What made you most nervous was the thought of the team figuring out you actually enjoyed being tickled, especially Loki. You were certain that that would be the embarrassing part. That, and the fact that you were already flustered by being around Loki long before he figured out this bit of information about you.
You couldn’t always avoid him. There were times that you had to be in the same room for prolonged periods, like during meetings. Loki always seemed to have things set up before you arrived so that the only seat remaining in the room was next to him. You considered sitting on the floor, once, but Steve gave you a scorning look which made you shrink down into the chair beside Loki, albeit begrudgingly. During these meetings, Loki always made sure to keep you on your toes; leaning towards you abruptly and placing his hand on the back of your chair, making you jump, only to whisper something about the meeting presentation, or some ridiculous observation about his brother.
It wasn’t just during work-related gatherings, either. One night, you joined a few of your teammates in the common room to watch a TV show together. Wanda stood up from the couch beside you to go grab a snack from the kitchen, and out of nowhere Loki swooped in and sat down in the spot she previously occupied.
“Good evening,” he greeted you, smirking as you shuffled further toward the edge of the couch to increase the distance between the two of you.
“Loki,” you grunted stiffly in reply.
“Now, y/n, that’s no way to greet your fellow team member,” he scolded tauntingly, clapping a hand on your shoulder, and causing you to flinch away reflexively. He leaned back against the couch, casually propping his feet up on the coffee table in front of you – a stark contrast from your position, huddled in the corner of the couch hugging your knees to your chest in an effort to make yourself as small as possible. “Pray tell, what are we watching?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know,” you huffed. Maybe this whole situation was making you feel a little bratty toward the Asgardian, but in all honesty he really did deserve it.
Suddenly he lunged toward you, causing you to squeak and jolt away from his fingertips. He never touched you, though, closing his fingers around the TV remote sitting on the couch beside you with a smug grin on his face.
“My, my, aren’t we jittery this evening?” he teased, settling back into his seat as he pointed the remote toward the TV to check the guide and find out the show title you had refused to provide.
“Everything alright over there, antsy-pants?” Tony asked, having witnessed the whole interaction.
“Yup! Just peachy,” you replied quickly, shooting Loki a quick glare.
“Peachy? Uh… alright then…” Tony scrutinized you for a moment before turning his attention back to the TV screen.
Needless to say, you didn’t really remember any of the rest of the show from that evening.
Then, as if these group gatherings weren’t enough, there was also your regularly scheduled training sessions. One morning, when Nat had you practicing throwing punches at the punching bag, you sensed Loki lurking around behind you. You turned your head just enough to catch him in your peripheral vision standing a few feet away, observing you silently.
“Better watch yourself – I might just throw one of these punches in your direction,” you threatened, keeping your eye on him as you continued to practice.
“Such hostility,” he teased. “Surely this much stress can’t be good for a mortal such as yourself.” He quickly advanced toward you, causing you to spin around and throw your hands up in front of you in defense. A deep, throaty laugh escaped his lips at your reaction. “You’ve only proven my point. You must learn not to be so tense.” He grabbed hold of your shoulder and turned you around, kneading both shoulders with his strong hands. Under normal circumstances, you’d have melted under his touch, but you were unwilling to let your guard down even for a moment. You grabbed his wrists and turned back to face him, pointing an accusing finger in his face.
“I’m not just going to let you slip past my defenses that easily,” you warned, stepping backward toward the door to leave while he smirked at you in amusement.
“Oh, don’t worry - I’m certain of that.”
* * *
After a week of this charade, you were really getting anxious. You were starting to flinch at every little sound, every rapid movement anyone made in your direction. Even when it wasn’t Loki you were interacting with, you couldn’t help but feel uneasy. The anticipation was literally driving you insane.
You entered the training room that morning ready to release some of your stress in your sparring session. Unfortunately, Steve had started noticing over the last few days that you and Loki were in the middle of some sort of conflict, and so he assigned the two of you as sparring partners, telling you to either fight it out or get over whatever it was. Reluctantly, you stepped out onto the sparring mat and faced your opponent, already starting to feel nervous butterflies in your stomach. Loki shot you his characteristic mischievous smirk, ducking into his fighting stance.
“I’ll do my best to make this a fair fight,” he goaded. You mimicked his stance, narrowing your eyes at him across the mat.
“Just get on with it, Loki,” you ordered. You didn’t wait around for him to make the first move, throwing a quick one-two punch which he dodged easily. He countered with a jab toward your ribs, stopping just before he made contact, but it was enough to make you flinch. You aimed a low-sweeping kick at his ankles but missed again as he hopped over your leg. Frustrated, you threw another sloppy punch toward his shoulder, but he grabbed hold of your wrist and yanked you toward him, spinning you around easily and pinning your arm behind your back, his other hand gripping your waist.
“Do you yield?” he asked, his voice low in your ear. You spun back around and yanked your wrist free in one fluid motion, driving him backward by slamming your forearm into his chest.
“Not just yet,” you grunted, grinning as he stumbled from the unexpected force. Loki quickly regained his balance, wasting no time in lunging at you again. This time, he aimed his hand toward your side, causing you to yelp and twist awkwardly to avoid his touch.
“Did Natasha teach you that move? Your form is getting sloppy.”
“You know exactly what made me move like that,” you muttered, jumping back on the offensive and landing a couple of blows to his shoulder. He retaliated with a jab straight at your stomach, stopping his own momentum early enough that he merely tapped his fist against your belly. You doubled over, wrapping both arms around your torso protectively.
“It seems your fighting skills require quite a bit of work.”
“Damnit, Loki!” you shouted, unable to take it anymore. “If you’re going to do it, just do it!”
“I’m not sure what you mean,” he replied, a mischievous glint in his eyes.
“Oh, you know exactly what I mean. You’ve been finding every excuse to lean toward me or make a sudden move in my direction to make me think you’re going to do it. I can’t stand it anymore!” You didn’t quite realize how loudly you were shouting at this point, causing heads to turn in your direction without your noticing. “I know this was all part of your grand plan, to drive me insane with anticipation. You win! I give! Just… get it over with already, please!”
In one swift motion, Loki tackled you flat on your back onto the mat, arms pinned over your head. You felt your stomach somersault, partially from the sudden drop to the floor and partially from the wide smirk on Loki’s face as he hovered over you.
“Well, since you asked so nicely…” Loki released both of your wrists and latched both hands to your sides, squeezing rapidly. You burst into uncontrollable laughter at the agonizingly ticklish sensation. Even Loki seemed somewhat taken aback by your reaction. “No wonder you were so concerned; the spider boy certainly wasn’t lying.”
“Damn you Peteheher!!!” you groaned through your laughter. At this point, everyone in the room had stopped what they were doing to see what the sudden commotion was about. You could feel your face burning, knowing everyone’s eyes were on you as Loki tickled you senseless.
You couldn’t bring yourself to fight back very hard, though; after all, you’d been waiting for this to happen for an entire week. You hoped it didn’t seem too obvious. You didn’t dwell on it for long, though, as Loki’s fingers crawled up to your ribs, depriving you of all coherent thought.
“Do you regret spreading humiliating rumors about me yet?” he teased, his smirk widening.
“N-no!”
“Tsk, tsk, wrong answer, darling,” Loki shook his head in mock disappointment, his hands darting back down to your sides so he could dig his thumbs into your hips.
“Lo… Loki… wahahait!” you pleaded, shrieking at the new sensation, and swatting feebly at his hands.
“I’m sorry, I’m not comprehending what you’re trying to tell me.” He was laughing now, clearly enjoying himself as he made you squirm under his torturous fingers. “Come, now, darling; I know you can fight better than that.” You shook your head rapidly, grasping weakly at his wrists. He moved to scribble lightly into your belly, trying to allow you the chance to talk while still keeping you giggling. “Use your words, love.”
“I-I cahahan’t!” you protested.
“You can’t? Or you’ve chosen not to?” Your eyes widened a bit, realizing he’d caught on to you. “Are you enjoying this?”
Blushing furiously, you rolled abruptly to the side to break his hold and scrambled to your feet, gasping for breath. Loki stood as well, staring you down for just a moment before lunging toward you. You turned and began to run, but the god easily caught up to you, grabbing hold of your arm and yanking you backward so he could trap you in what you could only describe as a bear hug.
“You didn’t answer my question.”
“Um…” Your heart was pounding in your chest from both exertion and embarrassment. “No? That would be… that would be weird.”
“On the contrary; I find it amusing. Dare I say… endearing, even.”
“Really..? Are you sure-” You were cut off by your own hysterical laughter as Loki dug his fingertips into your ribs, tickling you with renewed vigor. With your arms pinned to your sides and your back pressed flush against his chest, there was very little hope of you escaping this time.
“Surely you understand the implications of this newfound knowledge, dear? You’ve provided me with the perfect excuse to torment you whenever I’d like.”
“Stohohop teasing… LOKIHIHI!” you pleaded, your knees going weak as his fingers darted up and down your sides. You’d completely forgotten about everyone else in the room at this point, your mind going fuzzy. The only thing keeping you standing upright at this point was Loki holding your weight up as he tortured you.
By the time he released you from his hold, your stomach hurt from laughing so hard, and tears of mirth blurred your vision. It had been quite some time since anyone had tickled you like that. Heat still prickled in your cheeks, but you felt happy, nonetheless.
“Damn. Now I know how to cheer you up when you’re moping around the tower,” Tony quipped, walking past you and patting your shoulder as everyone finally returned to their own training exercises.
“Shut up, Tony,” you groaned, hiding your face in your hands. A swift poke in the sides made you jerk both arms down away from your face.
“I do believe we’re even,” Loki stated, smirking.
“Fine. We’re even. Now – can we finish our sparring match? Without cheating this time?” You shoved his shoulder playfully to emphasize your point. He only grinned wider.
“Darling, I refuse to make promises that I don’t intend to keep.”
Omega!Kaidou Headcanons
Anon:  Ooooh can you do omega kaido hcs?
(Aww, I love Kaidou, he is baby. I just finished all my uni work for the week so I jumped to write this! Enjoy!)
Warnings: N-sfw under cut, mpreg, talk of insecurities.
Tumblr media
General:
Kaidou is quite an insecure omega. Especially as a teenager.
Honestly, he has probably tried to masquerade as a beta before, and wished many times that he was an alpha like his younger brother and sister.
A lot of his façade as the ‘Jet Black Wings’ is a defence mechanism because of his insecurities and him being an omega fuels that.
Kaidou can be wary around alphas he doesn’t know, so it’s likely that you were friends first and romantic a long time afterwards.
When you are finally mates/almost mates, you see a completely different side to Kaidou.
He is incredibly touch starved. He loves cuddles and pets. He’ll take any affection you dish out. He especially loves resting his head on your lap or on your shoulder.
Kaidou wants to be an author when he’s older, and he has never had anyone support his dream. When you offer your support for him, he falls in love with you right then and there. That’s when he knew he wanted you to be his alpha.
His scent is light and flowery, with a hint of citrus.
Kaidou purrs a lot without realising and it always embarrasses him when you point it out. He purrs everytime you scent him, croon, cuddle him, etc.
Kaidou is a very sweet omega who is a dedicated and loving mate and parent.
Nesting:
As a teenager, Kaidou never gets to the point where he likes his nest.
He wants a super cool nest! A combo between a ‘secret lair’ style and a ‘pinterest’ style nest.
He wants a room dedicated to his nest, preferably with a hidden entrance. He wants a super powerful colour scheme with cool posters but he also wants fairy lights and pastel blankets.
Kaidou has lots of cuddly toys but he gets embarrassed about it and won’t admit it.
In fact, cuddly toys are his favourite courting gifts to receive, but he will always pretend that he think toys are for little kids, but you can see how tightly he cradles the toy, and if you scent the teddy first, you can even hear him purring.
As an adult, Kaidou really wants his dream nest, but he feels guilty spending so much money on it. It’s up to his alpha to encourage him.
When he has pups, they think his nest is the coolest thing ever, and they tell all the other kids at school because it has a hidden door! And beanbags! And a mini fridge! And it’s way better than your omega parent’s nest!!
Kaidou is very protective of his nest. He only lets you and his pups inside. No one else. He doesn’t even like when someone figures out where it is in his home.
This causes some conflict because he would love to give birth in his nest, but he would never be able to invite a midwife or doctor inside.
You clutched a small bat plushie in you hands as you walked into your classroom. You had bought it for Kaidou on a whim yesterday on your way home from school. This was hardly the first time you had given him a courting gift, but this was the first one that had your scent on it.
“Holy shit.” You whispered to yourself. “You can do this, don’t be nervous.”
You saw Kaidou immediately. He was sitting on top of his desk, chatting with Hairo and Nendou. You huffed. You would have preferred him to be alone but you guess that couldn’t be helped now.
“Hey, Shun...” You started, awkwardly sliding up beside him.
He startled slightly, a blush settling on his cheeks.
 “Oh! Hey... Everything okay?”
“Yeah, I, um.” You pulled the bat toy out of your pocket, shoving it vaguely in his direction. “This is for you.”
Kaidou gently took it from your hands, eyes wide. He turned it over, running a finger over the fake fangs. You saw the moment he realised you had scented it. He looked up at you in shock before turning and sniffing absentmindedly at the toy, purrs beginning to sneak out.
You puffed up in pride. Watching your intended mate accept and enjoy your gift with such fervour filled your heart with joy.
“HA HA!” Interrupted Nedou. “Kaidou’s purring!”
The purrs stopped immediately, Kaidou turned bright red, shoving the toy into his bag.
“I AM NOT! Shut up!”
The two began to bicker, Nedou laughing over Kaidou’s agressive denial.
You were vaguely embarrassed that Kaidou’s friends had seen you give him a courting gift, but mostly you were pleased by his acceptance of your first serious courting gift. Giving someone your scent to put in their nest was a big deal after all.
Family + pups
When you decide to court Kaidou, he will try and keep you as far away from his mother as he can. Unfortunately, this doesn’t last long, because his mother just orders him to bring you over and he can’t say no to his terrifying alpha mother.
Kaidou is unbelievably nervous throughout the whole meeting. He knows his mother will order him to end the courtship if she doesn’t approve.
His mother’s opinion depends a lot of how well spoken, intelligent and ambitious Kaidou’s intended alpha is.
If you have good grades, can match her successfully in conversation, and are preparing to apply to a good university, she will adore you.
(it’s best just to lie if you aren’t those things).
Kaidou’s mother is a very hands on grandparent when the time comes. She always take your pup(s) when Kaidou is in heat and you in rut. She also helps pay for tutors and arranges academic help for all her grandchildren.
Kaidou wants at least one pup but no more than three pups.
He is such a sweet parent.
He never, ever makes fun of his pups. He always treats their problems seriously and loves them for who they are.
He’s the kind of parent who jumps at the opportunity to support his kids hobbies. Writing, martial arts, painting, cooking, whatever they love, he makes sure they can do it.
Kaidou makes an excellent stay-at-home parent. He loves spending time with his pup(s) and working on writing the book he wants to write.
Family cuddles are a scheduled weekly event. He is distraught if, when his pups get older, they don’t partake in the family cuddles every week.
It took Kaidou quite a few tries to get pregnant, and he ended up getting very stressed about it, thinking something was wrong with him. Luckily, it eventually happened for you both.
When he was pregnant, Kaidou didn’t have many symptoms, but he was very tired and hungry all the time.
He needed help to do most things because he was so tired, but he felt like a burden, so didn’t ask for help. This changes in his second pregnancy (if he has one). He needs to have help with your other pup(s) when he’s pregnant because he’s too tired to look after them fulltime.
It would make more sense for you to wait until your first pup was in school before trying for a second one, just to take the pressure off of Kaidou somewhat.
The night’s peace was broken by a tentative knock at your bedroom door. You startled slightly, starting to sit up, Kaidou also stirring in your arms. The door handle turned slowly, the silhouette of you oldest son was revealed, along with the quiet sound of sniffling.
Before you could even process what you were seeing, Kaidou had yanked himself out of your arms and thrown himself towards your crying pup.
“What’s wrong? What happened?” Kaidou panicked, hands flitting over your pup as if to check for injuries.
“Nightmare.” Your pup whined, beginning to sob and he held his arms out for a hug.
Kaidou whined with him, quickly and firmly pulling him into his embrace. Kaidou then stood up, cradling your pup in his arms, rocking him back and forth.
“Why don’t you sleep with us tonight, pup?” You said, voice still heavy with sleep, gesturing for Kaidou to get back into bed. It was freezing after all.
Kaidou didn’t need any more prompting and slipped back under the covers you were holding up for him. As he settled down, your pup quickly grabbed at your shirt, holding it tightly in his fist. You brushed your hand over his tiny one before settling your hand on his back, rubbing up and down to help soothe him. You could no longer see his face (it was buried in your mate’s chest), but you could still hear his sniffling.
“What was your nightmare about, sweetheart? Must have been scary, huh?” You asked as Kaidou began scenting the top of your son’s head.
“Yeah. W’s scary.” Came the muffled voice of your pup.
In lieu of a reply, you pulled both him and Kaidou more closely against your chest.
“Nothing can happen while you’re here with us, okay. You’re safe.” You kept rubbing his back as he finally started to settle. Eventually, his breathing evened out and he relaxed fully against you and Kaidou, his grip on your shirt loosening.
“I feel so useless when he has nightmares.” Kaidou admitted, breaking the hush. “I can’t protect him from them.”
You shifted slightly to look him in the eye.
“You’re protecting him right now, my love. This is what he needs from you and you’re so good at it. You’re such a good parent, Shun.” Kaidou blushed faintly.  “I fall in love with you all over again everytime I see you with our pups.”
Kaidou smiled slightly, resting his head against your shoulder.
“I just want him to be happy.”
“I know.” You replied, placing a kiss on his head. “Me too.”
You started to drift off to sleep as silence descended on the room.
“Thanks.” Kaidou murmured.
Too tired to reply, you squeezed him lightly with your arms. It saddened you that your amazing parent of a mate still felt insecure four years into parenthood, but you were just going to have to keep telling him otherwise until he started to see himself as you saw him.
N-SFW under cut (ft. Slightly!Older!Kaidou)
Kaidou always, always needs after sex cuddles. It helps relax him, quiet his insecurities and is equally as enjoyable as the sex in his opinion.
Kaidou is a big subby baby, and he needs cuddles for his aftercare or he can feel very rejected.
Do you remember the episode where Kaidou came last in every event of the physical fitness test, but came first in flexibility? Kaidou is extremely flexible and he loves to show it off in bed. He’s very proud of all the positions he can bend into.
Kaidou loves dressing up in lingerie. He feels pretty and confident when he’s wearing lace lingerie. He looks best in pastel blue (it matches his hair), but honestly, he pulls off all pastel shades very well.
Along a similar vein, Kaidou finds it very embarrasing but very hot to look at himself in the mirror while you have sex. It requires a lot of praise though, as he can be quite insecure.
In heat, Kaidou is absolutely shameless. He will beg and plead and whine and nuzzle you to get you into his nest with him.
Kaidou is weak to hickeys on his neck, especially around his scent glands. He doesn’t give many hickeys, but he is prone to leaving scratch marks on your back and shoulders.
This man is very sensitive in a lot of areas. His nipples and the inside of his thighs are very soft and particularly sensitive.
He hates pain though. He is neither a masochist nor a sadist and thinks that pain has no place in love making.
Kaidou likes a little bit of roleplay but he’s way to embarrassed to bring it up. You have to wait until you’ve been in a relationship with him for years before he feels comfortable enough to bring it up. He is interested in teacher/student and master/slave style roleplays. He enjoys playing the part of someone else, because it makes him feel more comfortable in embracing his sexuality outside his heat.
“I’m-I’m coming out now. Don’t laugh, okay?”
You shook you head fondly.
“I’m not going to laugh at you, baby. You always look gorgeous, don’t forget that.”
The bathroom door opened and Kaidou shuffled out, clad in the new pastel blue lingerie set you had ordered for him last week.
You lost your breath just looking at him.
He was wearing sheer knee socks with little bows, held up by the garter belt sitting snugly on his waist. On top, he was wearing a lacy bralette, completely see through of course. Your favourite piece however, was undoubtedly the little blue panties. You could see the fabric bulging, straining against his erection. Looking a little closer, you noticed a small damp spot. You grinned. For all his complaining, he certainly enjoyed this a lot. You haven’t even touched him yet.
Kaidou shifted under your hungry gaze, feeling a little like your prey. He shivered at the thought.
You moved to kneel on the ground before him, pressing wet, open mouth kisses over his thighs and tummy. Kaidou steadied himself by gripping onto your shoulders. You could feel his nails making small grooves in your skin.
When you reached his chest, you began to suck and bite at his nipples through the lacey fabric, delighting in his moans and whimpers. He was always so sensitive for you.
“So beautiful.” You panted, breathing heavily against him.
“M’ not. Not beautiful.” Kaidou denied, eyes clenched shut.
You growled in response, biting him lightly on the shoulder.
“Don’t you dare. You’re breath-taking, Shun. Stunning. Gorgeous. Perfect.” You emphasised every word with a suck or a bit on his neck. You wouldn’t stop until he learnt to love himself as much as you loved him.
“Okay, baby, get on the bed. We have a long night ahead.” You made a point to crash your hips into his.  “I’m going to show you how beautiful you are.”
Unlike Hoseok, Jungkook still hasn’t adjusted to life in your house with the other hybrids. You try your best and take small approaches to make him comfortable and trust you.
“Hoseok, I told you no playing with your tennis ball in the house.” You chuckled as you came out of the room. He had been obsessed with throwing it and chasing it around the house. Hoseok let out a whine, his head hanging low. You ruffled his hair.
“Everyone ready to go?” You asked.
“Can I-”
“Yes, Hoseok. You can bring your ball.” You giggled and he grinned. As he ran down the stairs, you couldn’t help but adore the way his golden brown ears flopped against his head.
“Chim? You feeling alright?” You poked your head into his room. As per Dr Lee’s request, you have been slowly weening Jimin off his medications. It was good but that also meant that Jimin may experience some side effects or slight withdrawals so you have been keeping an eye on him.
“I am.” He nodded with a small smile. Although he’s still shy and jumps at loud sounds or voices, he has been improving so much.
“I know I tell you this all the time but I’m so proud of you, Chim.” You ran a hand through his hair.
“Really? You’re proud of me?”
“So proud. A small step is still a step, isn’t it?” You hugged him. He let out purrs of content as he hugged you back, his orange, black and white tail curling itself around you.
“Let’s go.” You held his hand and led him out. The others were all waiting there. Today was going to be the first time they went to The Field, except for Jin and Yoongi. The boys could all sense how tired you were after your 20 hours shift yesterday but you assured them you were fine and insisted on going today. You wanted them to get some fresh air and run.
Everyone climbed into the 8-seater van with you in the driver’s seat. Jin was in the passenger seat beside you.
“Tomorrow, when I go to the nursery, I’ll pick up more fertiliser for our backyard.” Jin said and you nodded. The government had not retracted the hybrid rules yet so boys were still working in shorter shifts.
“We’re here.” You parked the car.
“Woah!” Taehyung gasped at the big field that covered a few acres of land. You laughed and went to sign all of them in at the reception.
“Hey, Ann.”
“Hey, (y/n). It’s been a while! I see that you now have an army with you.” She nodded over to your 7 hybrids. You laughed and nodded your head. After paying for everyone, she placed wristbands around all of your wrists and opened the door for you to enter.
“I’ll be sitting here. Go ahead.” You told them. Hoseok was the first to take off, followed by Jungkook and Taehyung.
“Go have fun. Yoongi will stay here with me.” You smiled at Namjoon and Jin. Beside you, Yoongi lazily raised a hand and nodded in confirmation.
“Alright. Stay warm.” Namjoon patted your head. They removed their jackets and ran to chase the others. Hybrids like Namjoon and Jin loved the cold since wolves and arctic foxes naturally live in cold climates.
“I guess it’s nap time.” Yoongi yawned, putting his head in your lap. You chuckled, shaking your head.
“Umm...” Jimin stood beside you.
“Do you want to go too? Taehyung is there.” You asked him, looking at Taehyung, who was rolling around in the grass.
“Can I stay here?” Jimin squeaked.
“Of course you can.” You smiled, patting the empty space beside you. Jimin sat down and cuddled your side since Yoongi already claimed your lap as his pillow. You put an arm around him. It didn’t take long for Jimin to fall asleep with his head on your shoulder. With two hybrids so close to you, you didn’t even need extra jackets for warmth.
You watched as the 5 hybrids chased after each other, rolling around in the grass happily. Jungkook had yet to warm up to you but you could see he was really enjoying himself.
“Have some hot chocolate.” You gave the cups out to them as they came to take a break.
“Excuse me, miss?” Someone stood in front of you. You looked up at the stranger with a hybrid standing behind him with his head down. All 7 hybrids looked up at him as well.
“Yes?” You looked at him oddly.
“Where did you buy your bunny hybrid?” He smiled. You frowned and noticed that Jungkook tensed up.
“I didn’t buy him.”
“Ah... I see. Well, he is exactly the colour I’m looking for and I would love for him to be a present for my daughter. How much do you want for him? I can offer a lot. Is 1 million enough?” He reached out to pet Jungkook’s ears but you were quick to stand up in front of him, preventing the man from having any non-consented physical contact with Jungkook.
“He’s not for sale, sir.” You said warningly.
“I see that you have 6 other hybrids to care for. It must be hard supporting them yourself. I’ll take him off your hands. How about 2 million? Then you could use the money for your other hybrids.” He smiled.
“I don’t know if you’re deaf or dumb but I already said, he’s not for sale. I don’t need a stranger worrying if I can support my hybrids or not. That’s none of your business. They are all staying with me. I’m not giving them up for any amount in the world.” You crossed your arms.
“Now, there’s no need to be rude.” He frowned.
“You were rude the moment you opened your mouth to speak to me. Now leave before I call security.” You threatened.
“Let me tell you, little girl-”
“No, let me tell you, sir, that you really do not want to mess with me or my hybrids.” You cut him off. The male took a step towards you menacingly.
“I would back away if I were you.” Namjoon finally stepped in, showing his canines. The man looked and saw your other hybrids. He knew he was outnumbered, even with his own hybrid next to him. Sending you a final glare, he stormed off with his hybrid. You glared at him, your whole body shaking with anger. Humans are just so ignorant and dumb.
“Easy, kitten.” Yoongi calmed you down.
“Hey, (y/n)! I ran over when my colleague told me what was going on. Is everything okay?” Ann ran over, worry written all over her face.
“That guy harassed Jungkook.” You frowned.
“I know. We kicked him out and banned him and his hybrid from coming back. I’m sorry that happened.” Ann sighed. You shook your head, knowing it wasn’t her fault.
“We should go home.” Jin spoke. Everyone agreed and you piled into the van. Namjoon drove while Yoongi sat beside you, trying to keep you calm. You bit your lip, refusing to say anything. Everyone knew you were beyond pissed.
Jungkook also remained quiet. He was dumbfounded by your actions. No one has ever defended him like that before and to see you so obviously affected by it made him surprised. Even when you pulled up, you stormed into the house, pacing around the living room.
“(y/n), calm down. You’re scaring, Jimin.” Namjoon reminded.
“I’m just so... Ugh!” You pulled your hair in frustration. Jimin let out a soft whine and you turned to him.
“Sorry, Chim.” You apologised and went out to the backyard, stomping around. The 7 boys watched you in amusement. Yoongi couldn’t help but chuckle. The way you got angry never failed to amuse him and make him laugh.
“How is she’s so adorable when she gets mad?” Jin raised an eyebrow. Yoongi and Namjoon nodded in agreement.
“Tae.” Yoongi nodded over to your back. The younger saluted, walking over.
“(y/n).” Taehyung jumped towards you.
“The audacity the guy had! I mean, who does he think he is? So what if he’s rich and can offer millions of dollars? Geez, I wanted to stomp his face into the ground. And did you see how he just wanted to pet Jungkook when he’s just a stranger? Who the hell does that?!” You continued to pace as you ranted. Taehyung sat on the bed, eyes following you back and forth.
“I’m getting dizzy from your pacing.” Taehyung stated innocently, breaking your rant. You stopped walking and blinked at him
“Oh, sorry, Tae.” You chuckled.
“Don’t be angry anymore.” Taehyung said.
“You know, sometimes, I just think humans should be the one treated like pets, not hybrids. Humans should be leashed and be in shelters. Most of them just disgust me with their entitled attitudes.” You shook your head.
“If that happens, the hyungs and I definitely adopt you! So you won’t have to be in a shelter.” Taehyung grinned.
“Thanks, Taetae. Glad to know I won’t be abandoned.” You laughed. Taehyung was always sent out by your other hybrids to deal with your anger for a reason. His innocent personality and boxy smile was able to calm you down and make you forget your anger instantly.
“We know that you’ll never give any of us up.” Taehyung said.
“Of course, you’re my boys. All of you take up your own special place in my heart.” You cupped his cheeks.
Just looking at Taehyung made tears fill up in your eyes. You couldn’t imagine your life without any of them. Even if Jungkook and Hoseok were not obligated to stay with you after the winter, they have still made an impact on you.
“Why are you crying?!” Taehyung panicked, seeing tears trail down your cheeks.
“Nothing. I just love all of you so much.” You smiled through your tears. Taehyung stood up, enveloping your body with his as his own tears threatened to fall.
“We sent you out here to cheer her up, not make her cry.” Jin stood there, chuckling with an eyebrow raised.
“Jagi, are you crying because you love us?” Jin gave you a knowing look. You nodded your head like a little child and Jin’s face showed just how used he was to this. He made you and Taehyung go back into the house, not wanting you to get sick from the cold weather You looked at all the hybrids, sending them a small smile.
“I’m going to rest. Please have dinner first if you’re hungry.” You yawned and headed up to your room. You took a shower first.
“What’s wrong with her?” Jungkook asked with a scoff.
“(y/n) gets angry when hybrids are disrespected. You could at least be grateful that she protected you today. When you’re not even her hybrid.” Taehyung frowned slightly.
“I didn’t ask her to do that.” Jungkook snorted.
“Why would you say that?” Yoongi said in disbelief. He couldn’t believe how disrespectful Jungkook was.
“I’m not some weak damsel in distress. I don’t need her to come save me or protect me. She should have just minded her business.” Jungkook crossed her arms. Now that made Jin and Namjoon frown too. Hoseok gulped, knowing that Jungkook was crossing the line with his words.
“If you’re so strong, why are you here the? Staying here and eating our food for free.” Jin crossed his arms.
“Because my hyung is gullible enough to buy into your whole charade about how she’s the best human ever and that all of you are one big happy family!” Jungkook yelled. Jimin was already curled up into a ball on the ground, having an anxiety attack.
“You do not yell in front of Jimin.” Yoongi pushed Jungkook back.
“I can do whatever the hell I want! I don’t need to listen to you.” Jungkook glared, his long ears twitching slightly.
“Then leave. You don’t like it here and honestly, we don’t want you here as well. You have been nothing but rude and cold. You can’t even appreciate what (y/n) is doing for you and your brother.” Jin growled.
“I think all of you need to go and cool down.” Namjoon stepped up into his alpha role.
The slamming of the bedroom doors was what woke you up. You came downstairs to see all the hybrids tense, Taehyung sitting next to Jimin on the ground to calm him down as he has an anxiety attack.
“What the hell is going on here?” You frowned.
“Jungkook, Yoongi hyung and Jin hyung...” Hoseok looked down then at the staircase where the three hybrids disappeared off to. That was when you knew that there was a fight. Fighting between the hybrids wasn’t something you tolerated in the house, especially with Jimin around.You decided to give Jungkook, Jin and Yoongi time to cool down before finding them.
“Come here, Chim.” You sat on the couch. Jimin immediately jumped up and leapt into your welcoming arms.
“Breathe, Chim. I’ve got you. Follow my breathing. It’s okay, take your time. In and out.” You ran your fingers through his hair with a soft smile.
“Better?” You asked. He pressed his face into your shoulder but nodded nonetheless. As you continued to comfort Jimin, you looked to the 3 hybrids with you.
“Jungkook disrespected you. Jin hyung and Yoongi hyung got angry.” Taehyung explained briefly. You were surprised that Jin was involved too.
“Hoseok, get Jungkook down. Namjoon, get Yoongi and Jin down too.” You sighed and the two scrambled up. Yoongi and Jin came down but Hoseok relayed that Jungkook wan’t ready to do the same yet. Yoongi was stand offish, arms crossed with a small frown on his face. Jin was quiet but had his head lowered with guilt.
“I’m not going to say who was right and who is wrong but you guys should know better than to fight in front of Jimin.” You said.
You knew that talking to Jungkook was going to be more difficult. Jungkook was still young and he was abandoned at such a young age with only his adopted older brother to be by his side.
“Sorry, (y/n). We shouldn’t have-”
“I’m not asking you to apologise to me.” You said.
“Sorry, Chim. We shouldn’t have done that. We weren’t being considerate” Jin said softly. Yoongi nodded in agreement and patted his head.
“It’s okay, hyungs. Sorry.” Jimin’s ears lowered in guilt.
“No, it was our faults. Don’t apologise when you did nothing wrong. That’s not a good habit to have.” Yoongi said, casting you a look. That was a bad habit of yours too and the boys never failed to remind you of it. You just looked elsewhere, whistling innocently.
“I’ll go get started on dinner.” You stood up.
“I want to help!” Taehyung was quick to trail after you into the kitchen with Jimin by his side. The two were becoming inseparable and it was honestly quite adorable.
“Hoseok, you’re not gullible, alright? Sorry you had to hear that from your brother. He doesn’t mean that and only said it in a fit of anger.” Namjoon told the golden retriever.
“It’s okay. I’m sorry Jungkook has been nothing but trouble since he has been here. In our previous house, he was always being babied and the favourite.”
“Can we ask what happened with your previous owner?” Jin asked.
“Sure. There was actually another border collie hybrid and tabby hybrid with us but our owner said they ran away the week before. But I heard the owners gave them to a shelter. I didn’t know why but didn’t ask. We were playing in the park one day and when we turned our backs, she ran off. Jungkook saw her get in a car and leave.” Hoseok bit his lip.
“We went back to the house only to find it abandoned. Our owner’s stuff was gone and we didn’t know where she went. There was no letter, no money, no nothing.” Hoseok shook his head.
“Was that why you were out that night?” Yoongi asked.
“Yeah, we usually take turns to go find food but as the oldest, I go out more often.” Hoseok nodded.
“I’m sorry that happened to the both of you and Jungkook is still so young.” Namjoon sighed. From the kitchen, you watched the 4 oldest hybrids of the house talk and converse comfortably.
“Shall we make some hot chocolate?” You asked the two as you wiped your hands. Taehyung and Jimin blinked at you in confusion.
“Hot chocolate?”
“Come on, you’re in for a treat.” You smiled as you took out the ingredients out to make hot chocolate. The two were in awe as they watched you blend the chocolate and hot milk together, topping it with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and marshmallows.
“Does Yoongi hyung not like hot chocolate?” Jimin asked.
“He does but most of the time, he prefers warm milk instead.” You patted his head and they helped you bring all the cups out. The stew for dinner was left to simmer on the stove before it was eaten.
“Yours.” You handed Yoongi his mug of plain, warm milk.
“I’ll go deliver Jungkook his mug.” You went to his door and placed the mug on the ground. You knocked and left, not wanting him to feel awkward.
When you returned, you sat next to Jin. You reached up to rub his ears, something Jin has always liked since he started living with you. Everyone was chatting and interacting with one another, even Jimin was nodding along with the conversations. You couldn’t help but feel for Jungkook. He was alone upstairs while everyone else was here.
“Hoseok, is there anything Jungkook likes? Like what makes him happy.” You asked.
“Our owner used to get these Chicago style hotdogs from a cart stall. The guy opens at the farmer’s market across town.” He informed.
“If I bring you to that market, do you think you can bring me to that stall?” Your eyes brightened. Hoseok nodded his head with a smile. Yoongi frowned slightly. Jungkook didn’t deserve your efforts.
“Why do you want to do that for him?” Yoongi asked.
“Jungkook is just closed off because he’s in an unfamiliar environment. Let’s just try to be more understanding towards him. He was abandoned and he feels hurt by that, we can help him overcome it and open up without being forceful. Let’s just be patient.” You smiled.
“Thank you for helping him.” Hoseok teared up and hugged you.
“He’s not going to show any appreciation for your efforts, (y/n).” Namjoon pointed out.
“That’s okay. He doesn’t have to like me or look to me as an owner. As long as he can live here comfortably without having to feel so guarded, I’m content.” You grinned. Taehyung moved to nuzzle against your neck.
“Hoseok, the next weekend, when the farmer’s market opens, shall we take a drive down?” You suggested.
“Can I come too?” Jimin tugged on your pant leg.
“Of course you can.” You kissed the top of his head. When everyone was done with the hot chocolate, you went to serve up dinner. Taehyung and Yoongi stayed by your side to help with what they could. Jin and Hoseok took out the side dishes from the fridge. Namjoon and Jimin took the bowls and cutlery out. Yoongi started scooping the rice.
“Less rice for me.” You told him. When you said that, he purposely added another scoop.
“Sorry, can you repeat what you said?” He looked at you, threatening to get another scoop from the rice cooker. You pouted and glared at him.
“Nothing.” You mumbled.
“That’s what I thought.” He smirked. You placed a portion of rice, spicy stew and side dishes on the tray for Jungkook.
“Okay, this is where I step in. Sorry, snowflake, I know you said patience t he’s still not a king that needs to be waited on. You are not his servant. If he wants to eat, he will come down, alright?” Jin wrapped his hand around your wrist. The others, even Hoseok, nodded in agreement.
“Alright. Hoseok, please make sure he comes down to eat later. It’s not good to skip meals.” You told him.
“You’re one to talk.” Yoongi snorted.
“Yah, Min Yoongi. I can still cancel the shipment for that scratching post that you ordered online.” You threatened. Yoongi gave you a look.
“You wouldn’t dare.”
“Try me.” You smirked.
Tumblr media
It had been easy to slip past authorities; they had barely glazed over you five and decided to let you pass after a very brief interview, which went something like this:
“You’re visiting the carousel?”
Nervous shuffling, five teenagers stare at each other before a tall blue-haired boy nods.
“Yes.”
“Alright, whatever. Be careful. Don’t stay out here too late.”
The teenagers scurry through the yellow tape. The detective sees one of them linking hands with the other, both of their knuckles white. He chuckles before returning to his work.
“Ah, children.”
Tumblr media
“I still don’t sit right with all of this.”
“No one asked you to come, love.”
“Don’t call me that.”
You still couldn’t stand Soobin, and you couldn’t stand him even more now that he was using a variation of pet names on you. The trip here had been excruciating since that pest requested to be the driver. He looked hot when he was driving; constantly pushed back his windswept hair with his veiny hand, the other on the steering wheel. Yet, you could not bring yourself to talk to him for more than a minute.
If you told a friend of yours, preferably someone who was not in your friend group since you could not trust the four boys with your secrets, they would ask you to: “text him, get to know him. Gosh, do you not know what to do when you have a crush? Give me your phone, I’ll show you how…”
In conclusion, Choi Soobin was very attractive and you did not want anyone else to know about your...little crush on him, partly because you were embarrassed about how you were treating him, but mainly because you wanted him for yourself.
It didn’t mean that you were going to put up with his obnoxious antics.
Soobin plopped on the patchy grass next to you, tilting his head in mockery. “Aw, someone doesn’t want to feel...vulnerable? You’re so strong, ooh! Don’t call me pet names because I’ll melt if someone does it!”
“Choi Soobin, stop! Gargh, can’t stand you!” You complained and put your head in your arms.
Oh my, what a jittery mess you were in right now. He called you “love”. Love, like his love? Did he like you too? He was teasing you. You used to loathe it, but now you felt like a bundle of tender nerves every time he laughed at you, talked to you, even.
You really couldn’t stand this new boy., but maybe...not in a bad way anymore.
Tumblr media
The sunset was brilliantly red and orange, one of the most amazing things you had ever seen in your life. Its ball of tangy globe retired beyond the horizon, as the sky faltered into a deep purplish shade. Blinding rays caressed your skin and warmth engulfed you, a feeling that you never experienced in the city. Soobin was right, this place was gorgeous. It was a shame that it was also the home of such traumatic events.
However, there wasn’t a trace of the ‘carousel’ that the news outlets had raved about so excitedly. You wanted to ask someone about its placement, but you deemed it unnecessary. The view here was already stunning, and the staff outside looked busy with their investigation. You wouldn’t want to bother them and ask if they knew about some idiotic child ride (although you recall the detective who let you in outside mentioning it).
The six of you had moved yesterday’s Marshmallow Party to this more eventful spot. Kai was busy being taught how to not burn himself while making smores (he’s a big baby, but you still love him), Taehyun and Yeonjun were chatting whilst seated on the grassy patch, and Beomgyu went to get more sticks to keep the fire up. You spotted Soobin sitting on one of the foldable chairs you had brought along, laid back, sipping hot chocolate, and staring at the mesmerizing view.
You didn’t want to sit next to him, but you had nothing better to do. Everyone else was too preoccupied with their fun and it wasn’t like you could find Beomgyu to trail after him.
(At least, that was what you told yourself. You could also sulk in your pool of emotions, but you took the better route this time. Go you!.)
Nonetheless, you carefully made your way till you were right behind Soobin, and sucked in a breath of nervousness.
He noticed your presence and tilted his head upwards to its maximum range.
“Whatcha doing?” You carefully asked, afraid of overstepping your boundaries. You hadn’t forgotten how mean you were to him when you first came, but you weren’t ready to bring that topic up.
He basked in your eyes, a smirk on his face as he looked back at the sunset. “Looking at the view.”
Well, a vague answer, but the conversation was off to a good start. With only your socks on (you had been forced to take them off just now while playing truth or dare with the rest of the group), you tip-toed across the damp grass to grab another foldable camping chair, before opening it next to him.
“It’s stunning, isn’t it?” You couldn’t lie, it was the most alluring thing you had ever seen in your life besides the man right next to you-
“Just like you.”
...What?
Soobin looked over to see you trying to hide your evident frenzy over those mere three words. He loved this. You were so fun to play with.
To put the cherry on top, he rested his head on your shoulder, although he was a beanstalk compared to your petite height. To anyone else it would look extremely awkward; a lanky boy curving his body in half to rest his head on someone who looked like they couldn’t care less, but it was all in good fun.
It was evident that you had developed feelings for him. You loathed him this morning; now he was flirting with you and developing the audacity to rest his head on your shoulder?!
Yet, you couldn’t tell if it was just a show to become closer as friends. Friends did that all the time - although you had never play flirted with any of the other boys. Maybe it could become a ‘you and Soobin’ thing.
He hadn’t done much for you to like him. Besides his godly visuals, he had flirted, joked, perhaps hurt you a little, but now you were here trying extremely hard to not fall for him. Why are emotions so hard?
“Hey, you two, want some smores?” Kai called out from the bonfire.
Taehyun slapped his arm. “Don’t disturb them! They’re busy developing crushes on each other.”
Everyone “ooh-ed” and giggled. The hot red on your cheeks only burned brighter, and you pushed Soobin’s head away in embarrassment. Unbeknownst to you, he laughed and gazed at you softly with his doe eyes, feeling something unexplainable bubbling inside him.
You whipped your head back and stared Taehyun down. It was obvious that you were upset with him.
You didn’t like your secrets, as obvious as they could be, to slide in front of so many people, regardless of whether they were your friends or enemies. You had been taught to be vague and as covert as an unbreakable cocoon. This trip was not doing your principles any justice.
For the sake of keeping it peaceful, you held in your bubbling urge to yell at your friend for nearly ruining a relationship. Maybe you were overthinking it.
Taehyun probably sensed your disparity, because he quickly added. “Also because we don’t have enough resources to keep this fire going, therefore, fewer smores. Where’s Beomgyu? He’s been gone for more than fifteen minutes and I want those sticks.”
Tumblr media
Splitting up is never a good idea.
With Beomgyu being missing in action, it seemed obvious to go looking for him. After all, he was one of your closest friends - you wouldn’t want anything to happen to the people closest in your life. The forest next to the viewing area was vast too, so with a brief group discussion, you guys decided to split yourselves into groups of three and two.
Obviously, like any movie cliche, you were placed with handsome jock Choi Soobin.
Alone, with handsome jock Choi Soobin.
The both of you had been roaming deep into the forest, mindlessly calling out Beomgyu’s name, occasionally making jokes about his disappearance. If it weren’t for Soobin’s calm demeanor, you were sure you would be hysteric by now.
“Hey, we should call Beomgyu,” Soobin stated as the both of you stopped in your tracks. “With our phones.”
You wondered why that wasn’t one of the group’s first decisions, since it should have been an obvious one in this time and age. Hurriedly, you took out your phone kept hidden in your right pocket and dialed his contact number.
“No service. Please try again later.”
Both of your faces fell into disappointment. Right, the six of you had ventured deep into a forest. There was no way you would have Wi-Fi or a signal here.
You were starting to panic, your head lowering, and your muscles tense. Your hands started to tremble, twitch, and shake. Soobin noticed this and grabbed your right hand in his, carefully intertwining the fingers.
“Hey, look at me. We’ll be fine, love.” You didn’t bother correcting him on the pet name. “I’m sure Beomgyu is back at the camping spot. He’ll probably be upset if he sees all of us missing. Should we go back?”
You could barely manage a nod but Soobin saw your approval and led you back to the camping site. You trailed behind him with your head still down, hands intertwined.
Tumblr media
Soobin should never consider being a fortune teller in the future, or his next life, or the one after that. Everything he had mentioned so far had been proven to be false.
You stood next to him, hands still intertwined, and shoulders parallel to each other. Unlike what he said, the camping site was empty.
Well, not empty. There was a huge carousel planted right smack in the middle of your barbeque equipment. While the six of you were gone, it must have settled itself...in the middle of grass without any help within an hour.
With deeper thought, you deducted that your statement about the carousel was quite unrealistic, but that was what had happened.
“Oh look, the sun has set.” Soobin looked out at the view again, now fading into a deep midnight blue. The orange orb was long gone, now replaced with an unsettling feeling at the pit of your stomach.
You hit his shoulder and stood in front of him to get him to focus on whatever had just happened. “Choi Soobin. There is a carousel. In the middle of this forest.”
“Yeah, wasn’t that what we were expecting when we first came?” You couldn’t tell if he was joking or not. That suede look was still plastered onto his face.
In frustration, you buried your face in your hands on the verge of tears. “Stop joking around! This is terrifying. My friends have disappeared, and suddenly there is a carousel in the middle of nowhere. The only person I have as support doesn’t seem to care about the entire situation.”
Seeing your panicked state, Soobin stopped joking around and placed a hand on your back, rubbing comforting circles and patting it.
You started sobbing. An embarrassment, indeed. Who could blame you, though? The events today had flipped too quickly for you to process. One moment, you were making smores. The next moment, your s’more-making friends were gone, leaving you with an unbothered douche (that you were quickly catching feelings for).
Soobin sat you down on the grassy patch and pulled you into his arms, coaxing you with his gentle honey voice.
“It’ll be fine. They might come back with Beomgyu, I’m just saying.”
Tumblr media
You really could not wait till the wee hours of the morning. You were no longer in Soobin’s arms, instead, pacing around the land site trying to figure out a practical solution that would no longer place the responsibility of this situation in your hands. Soobin seemed to care for once. He was looking around for hints, trails, anything. At one point he offered to venture into the forest, but you immediately ran over and pulled him back by the arm, stating that you were afraid that you were going to lose him too.
“We should just call the police. Report another missing case - four more people. This is becoming too much.” You uttered, already about to walk to the entrance.
Soobin wasn’t opposed to the idea. He watched you scurry out and once you were out of his sight, he returned to looking for stuff. So far, he had found a leaf, sticks, and a piece of tissue.
Well, nothing of great value, but at least he’s trying.
You returned just as fast as you had left. “I forgot to bring the- oomph!”
Written on Soobin’s face was one of worry and panic as he watched you trip over nothing, before bending over in laughter with his hands over his stomach once he realized you were alright.
You huffed, getting up and brushing dirt and leaves off your pants. “That wasn’t funny,” you whined, but you were trying not to laugh regardless.
However, when you started walking again, you hit a wall.
Except that there was no wall in sight, and you had just bumped into thin air?
Soobin doubled over in laughter again, but you were no longer smiling. You hit your hands against the area where you fell and your palms were met with extremely strong wind, or glass, or a mix of both. It was like there was suddenly a force field between the carousel section and the area outside.
“Pfft, I’ll try again. Don’t laugh.” Once again you made your way through the same spot only to bump into the same surface.
Soobin shuffled over and tried walking through your section. He couldn’t sift through it either.
No one was laughing now.
“Soobin, pinch me. I need to check whether this is a dream.”
“I can’t. There is an invisible wall that just spawned in the middle of the both of us.”
“I never thought anyone would have to use the word spawned for a wall.” You ran your hands through your hair in frustration. "Now I’m trapped outside, and you’re stuck on the inside.”
Soobin shrugged, clearly unfazed by the whole paranormal situation. “I guess, I am going to continue searching in my spot. Don’t leave, okay?” His face morphed into one of worry for a split second before he left to scout around the area.
When you went out earlier to look for authorities, you had found no one. Yongsam Park was still enclosed, but there was no one around. The detectives had left and probably assumed you guys had too. It was nine at night now, there was no one to save you.
Why weren’t you afraid?
Tumblr media
“I found something! “ You looked up to see Soobin rushing over, his feet lightly pitter-pattering on the damp grass.
Slung over his shoulder was a brown leather satchel, looking quite rugged and disheveled, possibly from natural causes.
His hand brushed over thin air until it was met with that invisible wall. He pressed his back against it, sliding down till he was opposite your side of the wall on the ground.
Quickly, he pronged the satchel and its buttons open, and flipped the bag upside down, roughly shaking its contents out. You laughed at his antics, watching him hurriedly scan the items that had fallen out.
Your face quickly morphed into one of fear. “Soobin, move that huge book aside.”
“This one?” He pointed to an encyclopedia marked with pieces of sticky notes all over its sides.
“No, the one on the left. The exercise book.”
He quickly did as you said, pulling the exercise book aside to reveal a school tag.
“Park...Jong...Seong,” he read out, eyes squinted as he tried to recognize the small characters printed on the tag.
It took you a second to process where you had heard that name before.
“...Park Jongseong (20) and Nishimura Riki...disappearing for around a week...walking through Yongsam Park… the third case of disappearances at the park...sixth and seventh people to go missing…”
“Oh my gosh. It’s the missing kid. The one that showed up on the news.”
“I didn’t see anything?” Soobin inquired.
“It was the article below the one you sent us. He went missing here. I’m sure of it. They must’ve come to the carousel. This...is the spot where they went missing.”
Soobin looked through the contents of the satchel again. “There is a book about Seoul’s history here...he has a notebook filled with text about the carousel. He’s had an interest in this place for a while, I suppose.”
“Hand me the notebook.”
Soobin lifted it only for it to fall out of his hands when it met with the force field. The both of you groaned, forgetting that the useless invisible wall still existed.
“What is this wall even doing here? It doesn’t tie to any of this. My friends are missing, we don’t have a way out of here, and now I’m separated from the only person I’m stuck with.”
Silence filled the atmosphere for a brief moment before Soobin spoke, tense and nervous. “We’ll find a way out of here. Don’t worry and don’t cry. I hate seeing you upset.”
There it was again, that feeling, especially when he showed compassion for you. Since when did you fall in love so easily?
Your fear vanished as fast as it had settled. “Whatever, we’ll be fine. Read out the contents of the notebook.”
He dutifully obliged, flipping open the first page to reveal scrawny writing and messy diagrams. “Yongsam Carousel. Referenced from Seoul Geography Encyclopedia pages forty-eight to fifty.”
“Quick, open the encyclopedia.”
More page flipping. “In nineteen eighty-eight, a carousel showed up in the middle of nowhere. The stunning contraption was discovered by workers when building a park. Their boss, who chose to remain anonymous, ordered to remove the carousel but the workers stated that it was impossible because the landmark was drilled into the ground. Okay, hold up-”
“But- but it just showed up here! Are you sure we didn’t walk to a different section?”
“Look, our camping gear is still here. Hyuka’s stuff is still here. Taehyun’s phone...oh, he didn’t take his phone-”
“Stop talking about my friends! Please, I feel horrible every time I think about them. All of this could be avoided if I didn’t force everyone to go and just owned up to being a wimp!” You blurted, frustrated with yourself and your cocky mouth.
Soobin took your hand in his and rubbed it back and forth. “It’s my fault. If I didn’t suggest coming here, all of this could be avoided. I shouldn’t have prioritized my adventurous goals over the safety of my loved ones..”
The both of you were silent, staring into each other’s eyes. Before you realized…
“The wall is gone. Soobin, you’re holding my hand.”
“Sorry, I’ll remove it-”
He didn’t get to finish his sentence because you launched yourself onto him with a giant teddy bear hug, engulfing the lanky boy and his lengthy limbs with the best of your abilities.
“I’m never going to leave you. I’m afraid. What if this wall spawns again? I don’t want to be separated from you.” You said into his shoulder, your hot breaths caressing the side of his neck.
You couldn’t see his face, but Soobin had turned into a tomato right there and then. It was likely that you didn’t mean whatever you had just blurted out since you had said it in the spur of the moment, but he couldn’t shake off the aphrodisiac feeling that he had just picked up.
Tumblr media
“To summarize-”
“You’re treating this as an English thesis. We just need clues.”
“To summarize,” Soobin announced as he ignored you and your infuriating statements, “it’s a magic carousel. According to the kid’s research, it kidnaps any group of people that go within its proximity and leaves two people behind.”
“What do the two people do?”
Soobin looked through more books before sighing. “I don’t know. I’m sure the carousel specifically picks two people to leave behind. They have to do something to free everyone. There was a couple who was left behind in nineteen ninety. All of their peers were kidnapped. Everyone besides the couple was pronounced missing for four days before the couple came back, traumatized. They were seen roaming outside the carousel for days - sleeping and eating off rations there, and wouldn’t come out even when authorities spotted them.”
“Maybe it’s because they were trapped by the wall, like us.”
Soobin got up and tried to walk out of the area. He bumped into the wall. “It’s respawned again.”
“Does this mean that we’re trapped here forever?”
“Well, trapped here until we find a way to get everyone out.”
“But how...will we get everyone out?” Soobin could see your brain motors working as he stared at your face, scrunched up deep in thought.
“You know, I suspect Jay is blood-tied to this whole situation in some way. He has old journal excerpts from times way before we were even born. The encyclopedia isn’t official and most of the information I retrieved came from his footnotes and annotations.”
You stood up, pacing back and forth. “He has been acting weird. We don’t know him personally, but based on the evidence we’ve retrieved, he must have been trying to find a way to break the curse.”
“Yo, what if he’s part of a family line that has been tasked to fix the carousel?”
“Maybe.”
Silence dawned upon the both of you again. You yawned. It was eleven at night, which usually wouldn’t be considered late for your hectic schedule, but you were in the middle of the woods and had been using your brain like a mad man for the past few hours.
“We should go to bed.” It was like Soobin had read your mind. He stood up and scrummaged through his huge bag before pulling out a large sleeping bag.
Your mouth formed an ‘o’ shape as you walked over to see him unravel it on the hard ground. “You only have one?” You worriedly asked.
“Yeah, I wasn’t expecting to have to sleep over here tonight. We could just share.” Soobin casually suggested and continued setting up the ‘bed’.
Oh my gosh. You would have to share a sleeping bag that was made for one person with a boy you barely knew. You would be cocooned within his arms and share body heat...and cuddle. You couldn’t tell if you liked this or not. Even when you were younger, you rarely snuggled with the boys. At most, you guys had slept on the same bed, but they had never attempted to cuddle or hold you.
You nearly dry-heaved at the thought of being cuddled by Yeonjun or Taehyun, or anyone else. They were like your brothers, it was just weird.
‘What are you waiting for?” While you were contemplating your sleeping decisions, Soobin had already snugged himself into three-quarters of the one-person sleeping bag.
“Are- are you sure? You could sleep on the floor.”
“Me? Dang, if you didn’t want to sleep next to me, the least you could do is sacrifice yourself to the bugs and the dirt. It’s my sleeping bag.” He huffed.
Admitting defeat, you carefully kneeled and inserted yourself into the pocket of space between Soobin’s body and the attached blanket. On instinct, he wrapped his arms around your body and laced a leg over yours.
As the chilly breeze sent temperatures dipping, he hugged you even tighter, making sure you were all cozied and warm. You looked up at the night sky, a deep midnight blue that was peppered with greyish clouds, the faltering glow of the moon almost covered by the flitting fog. You didn’t fail to notice the way the breathtaking carousel glowed, a mysterious aura emitting from it.
Ah, you could deal with everything tomorrow. For now, you would just bask in Soobin’s arms and feel the night breeze tickle your skin.
“Goodnight, beautiful.” He whispered, his words glazing over your skin. You didn’t reply, you were far away from reality, already on your way to your utopian dreamland. You had never expected to fall asleep in a forest so quickly, nonetheless in someone’s arms.
Tumblr media
You flitted open your eyes to be met with creamy white clouds waltzing across the sky, dappled rays of sun filtering through. The birds chirped and the whistling breeze formed a beautiful morning tune. Gone were the eerie crickets from last night. You stuffed your chilly hands into the sleeping bag, trying to get some warmth. From behind you, someone stirred in their sleep.
Ah, you forgot that you were in Soobin’s embrace. Curious to see what he’d look like in the morning, you courageously shifted to the other side so his face would be parallel to yours.
The sun had barely risen but it already looked like it was golden hour for Soobin. Rays bounced off his tofu skin and only accentuated his features as his eyes fluttered open, eyelashes curled and conditioned to a T.
“What are you looking at?” Soobin lazily groaned, already smirking even though he just woke up.
You flipped back facing outwards, afraid that Soobin would realize that your cheeks were burning. Who’s wouldn’t? Imagine being forced to cramp up next to a hot guy in a forest. That’s some wacky stuff.
“We just woke up, Choi Boy. Its too early in the morning for this.” You muttered.
“Oh yeah? Explain why you were sleep talking yesterday night?” He stated, calm and composed as always. He knew he had the upper hand in this conversation.
You were the epitome of a tomato right now as you listened to him expose you in front of..yourself. “S- s-sleep talk?”
“Mmhm. Yesterday night I woke up to you talking about how pretty I was. My hair, or something, I don’t recall.” He happily said.
He was lying about one thing. Soobin remembered everything you had said about him quite vividly. You must’ve been dreaming when you started slurring out descriptions of a boy, which woke Soobin up. He listened to you talk about his blue hair, his deep eyes that held so much meaning, his calloused hands and his smooth skin. He listened to how you drunkenly talked about his teasing, how much you loathed it because it made you flustered. He couldn’t sleep the entire night afterwards.
You remebered dreaming about Soobin last night (as you were lying in his arms). Although you didn’t recall much, you didn’t remember describing your dream out loud either.
With a sudden burst in confidence Soobin grabbed your shoulders and turned you around so your back was pressed flush against the sleeping bag. He placed both of his hands parallel to your shoulders and used them to support his body weight as he hovered over you, his face inches away from yours.
“Oh my gosh. Choi Soobin.” You could barely whisper out, still freshly in shock.
“Save it. We both like each other. I figured since we arrived here. Ah, you never give the right hints. One day you’re upset at me, the next day, you’re constantly blushing and fidgeting. Why don’t we just get this over with?” He inquired, bottom lip jutting out in the most endearing way possible as he confessed, body still hovering over yours.
You were at a loss for words. You had just woken up, dang it. You were sure your breath stank.
“O- okay. Yeah, we can get over it.”
He leaned even closer. “Can I kiss you?”
“Do I have morning breath?” You shyly ask.
“No, you smell like heaven.”
You barely managed a nod and he took it as a yes as he leaned in and lightly placed his mouth on yours. In that kiss was the sweetness of passion, a million loving thoughts condensed into a moment. His lips were soft, welcoming, chapped with the scent of heaven’s peaches. He deepened it and you took the chance to run your hands through his smooth hair, choosing to rest them on the nape of his neck.
You wanted to continue being like this, in this position, finally able to relish being in love with a man who loves you too, but you had to pull away as you saw the carousel starting to move.
He was out of breath, running his hands through your hair. He thought you were taking a break, and tried to cup your face with his large hands and peck you again but you pulled away in shock.
“Soobin, look behind you.”
The carousel was lit up. It was starting to move, and music was spurring out of it.
“Purchasing pleasures In selling hours of dross Here in the land of rebel powers Gloriously decorated An invitation calls to us From the carnival of the dazzling night So we beat on the door of this flipped world Brought here by fate Whether the harvest feast of light Or a festival of blood Time harmonizes laughs and screams Death once dead, there's no dying then So we gladly swallow time like it's our last breath”
▶️ Apple :D go make some applepie :)
(yes my humour is very broken xD)
I swear this was supposed to be fluffy and short, but it got angsty and long instead. It’s so long it deserves a title AND I’m tagging people! Today Apple bakes a pie and we learn a bit more about Benji. 🍏 I’m not 100% satisfied with it but it’s still pretty good.
I should probably also note that everything I’ve mentioned so far is basically canon, besides a few minor details. Like, yeah, Jimmy’s canon, y’all.
CW: Broken whumpee, clueless whumpee, crying, food, implied captivity, neglect, pet whump, referenced past loss of consciousness, referenced past punishment, referenced past whipping, Stockholm Syndrome, unhealthy habits, yelling
Apple Pie
Apple doesn’t think your humor is broken at all, although admittedly he doesn’t get the joke. At the suggestion, he smiles. An apple pie would be a great idea to win back Master Clay’s affections, especially after yesterday!
Of course, to get his ingredients, Apple needs Master Clay to go to the store, and to get his ingredients on Master Clay’s list, he has to visit Benji. Apple hasn’t even seen them since their unconscious body was carried out of the extra bedroom last night. Still, Apple knows that for the next week, whatever Benji asks for, they’ll get. That’s how it always goes.
So Apple moves to sit up, but the instant he does, his back flares with sore, stinging pain. Ow, ow, ow! He freezes, biting back a whimper as his shirt settles against the raw skin. The sting fades into constant but bearable discomfort.
This time when he moves, he goes slower, and the pain feels like less. Apple feels overwhelming relief when he makes his way down the hallway and the hurt is tolerable.
Benji doesn’t talk, eat, or sleep much after a punishment, and this time is no different. When Apple nudges open the door to Master Clay’s bedroom, they’re laying on their stomach in the dark with the shades drawn, illuminated only by the haunting light of the TV. Master Clay always moves it for them on days like this.
They’re looking at the TV, red-rimmed eyes staring but unseeing at the colorful reality show playing on screen. When Apple sees them, he kind of wants to go back into the living room and wait until Benji’s okay again. He hates seeing them like this, so sad and quiet and small.
Maybe this treat will help cheer them up, too!
Apple pushes the door all the way open and crawls into the room, careful to shut it quietly behind him. “Benji?” His own voice is hoarse from yesterday, too, so he clears his throat and tries again a little louder when Benji doesn’t move. “Benji?”
Benji shifts on the bed, just enough for Apple to know they heard him. Apple crawls closer and kneels in front of them on the floor. It takes a moment for their red eyes to meet Apple’s, but when they do, Apple smiles.
“I need some stuff from the store today.” Apple grabs the pen and notepad sitting on Benji’s nightstand and offers it to them. “For an apple pie for Master Clay.”
Benji shakes their head slowly. Not now, Apple. He can see it on their face. They’re hurting today. Apple feels bad for pressing, but he’s sure Master Clay and Benji will both appreciate it later!
“Please? It’s only a little.”
Benji looks angry and exhausted all at once, and Apple thinks if Benji says no this time, he might just drop it. But Benji just sighs, then squeezes their eyes shut.
Rarely ever does Benji take a punishment worse than Apple, but this was one of those times. If the deep, bracing breaths are any indication, Benji’s thinking the same thing.
Apple doesn’t know what they’re doing until they let out a long pained hiss.  Benji pushes themself up and moves around until they’re laying on their side and facing Apple. Benji takes the notepad, then motions with the pen. What do you want me to write?
Apple grins. Thank you, thank you, thank you! “Apples and brown sugar and cinnamon and a lemon. We need more flour, too. Oh, and ice cream!”
Benji writes everything down slowly, probably so they don't hurt themself more, and Apple watches mystified. Even though their hand shakes, their writing is still so pretty and swirly.
When they’re done, Benji peels the top sheet off the notepad, gingerly folds it up, and puts everything back on the nightstand. Then they settle back onto their stomach on top of the duvet.
From this angle, Apple can see the edges of angry red marks peeking out from the bandaging wrapped all around their back. Master Clay was kind to take care of Benji’s wounds like that. Maybe if Apple hadn’t tried to steal that apple, he would’ve gotten the same treatment.
When Apple looks back at Benji’s face, they’re staring at the TV again. He takes that as his cue to leave, being careful to shut the door quietly behind him.
***
When Master Clay returns with the ingredients, Apple is a little disappointed to find that he forgot the ice cream, but not ten minutes later, Master Clay passes through the kitchen grumbling about it. Apple’s pulling his ingredients together on the floor when Master Clay snatches his keys off the counter and leaves again.
Did Benji tell him that he’d forgotten it? Or maybe Master Clay noticed how disappointed Apple was and realized what he had forgotten! Regardless of the reason, Apple can’t believe Master Clay would drive all the way back to the store just to pick up some ice cream for him!
Apple feels a stab of loneliness every time Master Clay walks out the door, but it’s good that he’s gone. If he’s quick, he’ll have this pie done before he gets back. He can hardly imagine his surprise!
So Apple doesn’t waste any time. He mixes together all the dry ingredients for the dough and then cuts in the butter, careful not to overwork it before tossing it in the freezer. The apples are next. He cuts them nice and precise, and he makes sure the measurements are just right. Who knew that cooking show Benji watches would’ve come in handy like this?
Apple gets so into it that he starts to hum a little tune under his breath. He doesn’t remember what it’s called, but it’s soft and uplifting and he starts it over again as he lines the tin with the pie crust and layers in the apples.
Finally, Apple pulls together a streusel topping. It’s really easy, and it’s a touch of his own personal flavor since he’s not using the traditional lattice. By the time it’s in the oven, he’s forgotten all about his raw back, but he gets a harsh reminder when he leans up against the bottom cupboards while he waits. He winces and twists so that he’s leaning on his shoulder, not his back.
He doesn’t realize he’s fallen asleep until the oven beeps.
Apple wakes with a jolt, frantically trying to orient himself with his eyes. Right, he’s in the kitchen, on the floor. When he looks up, there’s a pint of vanilla ice cream sitting on the countertop, half-melted but still ice cream.
Apple smiles groggily to himself and eases onto his knees. It’s hard reaching into the oven from here, but he manages it. He uses a dish rag to pull the pie out from the heat and sets it on the floor in front of him.
The smell is heavenly. It takes all Apple has not to dig into the pie right then and there, because he made the pie for Master Clay and Benji, not himself. He barely ignores the way his stomach growls when he catches a whiff of buttery crust and spiced fruit.
Apple cuts a big slice for Master Clay and another for Benji, he scoops a spoonful of ice cream on top of each, and then he crawls over on his knees with the two plates and spoons in hand back to Master Clay’s room.
Apple gives the door a gentle knock before entering just in case Benji’s asleep.
“Master Clay? Benji? I brought you some pie.” Apple doesn’t know if he’s just surprised or fully disappointed that Master Clay isn’t in the room with Benji, but he supposes it’s a mix of both when he sees Benji propped up against the headboard of the bed. “Master Clay…?”
Benji shakes their head, eyes still glued to the TV. Not here.
Apple lets the flutter of disappointment go and instead crawls over to the bed, placing one slice of pie on the blanket and offering the other and a spoon to Benji. “I brought pie,” Apple says again.
Benji looks from the TV to the pie, and for the first time all day, a ghost of a smile passes over their lips. Apple can hardly believe it! He did that! Only as quick as it comes, it’s gone and replaced with a far more somber look.
“Benji, are… are you okay?”
Benji looks like they’re about to nod their head, but they must think better of it because they get impossibly quieter and more withdrawn.
They silently take the plate from Apple and break a piece off with their spoon. Apple’s excitement comes back full force. Hopefully Benji’ll feel better once they’ve eaten!
Benji is about to take the bite when their hand comes back down to the plate and they whisper, barely audible, “I want to go home…”
Apple doesn’t know what to say to that. How could Benji want that? With everything they have—pretty clothes and tender touches and everything they could possibly want—how could they ever want to leave Master Clay?
“You don’t mean that,” Apple murmurs. “That’s just the punishment talking. You have everything here. You can have anything.” At that, Apple feels a pang of something in his chest, but he keeps going. “This is your home, Benji. Master Clay—”
Benji hurls his plate of pie at the wall with a crash.
“THIS ISN’T HOME!”
It’s so loud and Benji’s voice sounds so raw and tearful, and Apple doesn’t know what to do besides bow his head in submission. So he does. Because Benji yelled at him. They’ve never done that before, no matter how exasperated or angry they’ve gotten with him.
The room goes quieter than it’s been all day. Of course the people on TV would choose now of all times to have a quiet moment.
When Apple dares to look back up again, there are tears streaming down Benji’s cheeks. Apple can’t think of anything to say, so all he says is, “Enjoy the pie…” Then he gets onto his hands and knees and crawls out of the room again.
Behind him, Benji’s silent tears turn to sobs, and they continue to whisper, “I just want to go home…”
Apple shuts the door.
Tumblr media
It had started out innocently; you had only taken a small handful of the mozzarella cheese and it was just to get your screaming appetite to calm down, but before you had really had time to stop yourself, you had snacked the entire bag.
"Woops," you mumbled to yourself as you realised that you were standing with an empty bag in hand, still chewing on the last bit of cheese. Frantically, you searched the fridge, but quickly remembered that you had only bought one bag and that there was nothing to put on top of the homemade pizzas you had promised Rafa. You cast a sidelong glance towards the sofa where your boyfriend was breathing heavily in his sleep. He had been stressed from work all week and you hated that you had to wake him up and send him to the store for more cheese for the third night in a row - but he had been the one to insist on only buying one bag at a time after all.
As silently as possible, you tiptoed over to him, careful not to wake up Mía who was snoring beside you on the kitchen floor. She had been following you around all day - for some reason highly alert - without straying further away from you than a couple of feet. Although she was very cute, she had also been very annoying. Luckily, you managed to tiptoe your way out of the kitchen and into the living room without waking her.
You sat down next to Rafa on the sofa and ran a hand through his hair, "Wake up, love," you kissed his forehead.
He shuffled a little, his eyes fluttering briefly before his eyelids fell back down, "five more minutes," he mumbled sleepily, "I just need to wake up. I'm so tired..."
"I know love," you ran your fingers through his hair one more time.
"Come here," he said and pulled you down to him, nuzzling against your neck, "mmmmh you smell so nice..."
You kissed his knuckles and pushed your backside up against his chest as you enjoyed the heat radiating off him. His lips quickly found your shoulder and he kissed you softly before he slipped a hand under your shirt and gently cupped your breast.
You yelped loudly at his touch and pulled away from him, apparently waking up Mía in the process. She came running into the living room, immediately by your side with a small growl.
"Am I not allowed to touch you anymore?" Rafa mumbled and kissed your neck, while Mía was snarling slightly on the floor in front of you.
"Of course you are. I'm just really sore today," you whispered and let Mía lick your arm to try and calm her down, "I don't know if I bruised a nipple or something."
"Oh, I'd love to give you an examination," Rafa smirked against your neck, "but in the meantime I'll just enjoy my other friend," his fingers pinched your other nipple.
"Aw fuck, Rafa! That's really sore too!" You said loudly, making Mía bark.
Rafa sat up straight and looked down at you, "babe, are you okay?" he asked, concern flooding his voice.
"Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just really sore," you said, carefully examining your breast with one hand while using the other to nuzzle Mía behind her ear to get her to stop barking.
"Do you need me to get you something?" Rafa asked, ignoring Mía completely.
"No I'm fine -" you hesitated but was reminded of your snacking problem, "actually... We kinda might've run out of cheese for the pizzas."
"I bought an entire bag yesterday," he arched an eyebrow at you.
"I - uhm - I accidentally ate it all."
"You ate it all?" He chuckled, "babe, I don't mind your snacking but you're eating all of our groceries these days. What's going on with you?"
"I guess I'm just really snack-ish," you laughed and got up from the sofa, determined to finish prepping for the pizzas. Mía was silently following close by.
"Alright, I'll run to the store," Rafa said as he walked over to the closet in the hallway and pulled on a pair of sneakers and his jacket. He took a look at Mía and decided to pull out her leash too.
"Mía," he whistled and waited patiently.
Mía was sitting on the floor beside you, and when she heard Rafa call her name, she turned her head slightly, shot him a lazy look but otherwise didn't move a muscle.
"Mía!" Rafa tried one more time, and even pulled out a small treat for her, but she didn't budge.
"What's the matter with you, girl," Rafa walked to her and put her on the leash, slightly tugging her towards the front door. Mía started barking like crazy and didn't move her legs at all, causing Rafa to accidentally pull her across the floor as she slid on her paws, "what the hell is the matter with you?!" He exclaimed, "you love going outside!"
He let go of the leash, and watched Mía take a few fast-paced strides back towards the kitchen, wagging her tail vigorously when she resumed her position next to you.
"Aw, boo," you said and petted her, "you don't want to leave me, do you?"
"She's been acting crazy all week," Rafa ran a hand through his beard, "did you notice? She stays close to you and she'll barely let me touch you."
"No," you laughed, "are you sure you're not just making this up because you're jealous that your two girls are getting along so well?"
"No, I'm serious," he said and took a step closer to you, "come here, I'll show you," he said and put his hands on your ass, giving it a light squeeze.
At the touch, Mía started barking once more but stopped as soon as Rafa stepped away from you.
"Look," he said and repeated his movements while Mía resumed her barking whenever he put his hands on you.
"What's up with you, girl?" Rafa said and petted Mía behind her ear, "you're being crazy. I can touch you but I can't touch my girlfriend? Are you jealous or something?" He mumbled.
He picked up the leash, stood up straight and started tugging on Mía once more. Still, her legs didn't budge.
"Here, let me try," you said and took the leash from Rafa's hands. "Come Mía," you said softly, and started walking towards the front door with Mía trodding loyally along beside you.
"Crazy dog," Rafa mumbled behind you.
"Aw boo," you laughed when you turned around and saw Rafa's crestfallen face, "are you sad you're not the alpha anymore?"
"No, I'm wondering if I should take her to the vet. Could you keep an eye on her while I run to the store? I'm not going to force her to come along, but if she's still weird when I come home later, I'm acting on it," he said and walked over to you with intentions of giving you a goodbye kiss.
Mía started snarling the minute he was within a two-foot radius from you.
"Okay Mía, you ass," he mumbled in defeat as he stepped away from you and out the door.
"You're being silly," you petted Mía when you were finally alone and went back into the kitchen to make your famous pizza sauce.
You were opening a can of tomatoes when a horrible stench hit you like a truck. Something in the kitchen was smelling all sweet and warm and for some reason, it made you nauseous. Had the can of tomatoes gone bad? Anxiously, you inched your face closer to the open can and gave it a small sniff. Without warning you felt the heartburn, the taste of sour stomach acid thick in your mouth. It was disgusting and you had to leave the kitchen to get away from the stench of the tomatoes. Mía followed you to the bathroom were you retched and emptied the contents of your stomach. You coughed a few times and noticed Mía whimpering beside you. You petted her while whispering, "I'm okay, love. I'm good."
Desperate to get the taste of vomit out of your mouth, you opened the cabinet to fetch the toothpaste that was located next to the tampons ...speaking of tampons - weren't you supposed to be using one right now? You looked at your watch to check the date; it was the 20th.
You were four days late.
And you were never late. Fuck!
You were staring at yourself in the mirror when it all fell into place; the excessive snacking, your sore nipples, Mia being overprotective, the nausea...
...It couldn't be because...
...Could it?
You were staring at yourself in the mirror. Were you imagining a slight bump? No, you couldn't be...
Slightly panicked, you knew you wouldn't be able to think of anything else before you'd made sure, so you pulled out your phone from your back pocket, and dialled up Rafa while your pulse was quickening with each passing second.
When he finally answered his phone he sounded cheerful, "don't worry! I bought two bags," he chuckled, "snack away, my love."
"No, Rafa, I need you to get me something else," you said nervously.
"Yeah? What's up?" he asked quietly, "is everything okay?"
"Could you grab me a - uh - a pregnancy test...?" you mumbled and buried your face in your hands without really knowing why.
Rafa went completely silent on the other end, "...what do you need a pregnancy test for?" He said slowly.
"Are you serious?"
"No - uhm - just a little surprised," it sounded as if he was giving himself a mental shake, "are you sure you're...?" His voice trailed off.
"That's what the test is for, love," you said quietly.
"Of course. Of course. I'll - uhm - I'll grab you one. ...Are you sure you're okay?"
"Yes. Just hurry back here..." you whispered.
"I'll be as fast as I can," he mumbled before he hung up.
You were looking at yourself in the mirror, trying to imagine yourself pregnant. Carrying Rafa's child. Your future together. You hadn't been together that long. What if he didn't want this? What if you didn't want this?
How long you stood there, looking at yourself in the mirror while stroking your belly you had no idea but suddenly, you heard Rafa call for you from the hallway.
"Babe?" He sounded concerned, "where are you?"
"Bathroom," you called out to him and immediately, he came running.
"Are you - are you okay?" He panted.
You nodded, "yes. Are you?"
"A little surprised. We were so careful," he mumbled, "well apart from..."
"My birthday. I know," you sent him a look.
"Shit," he ran a hand through his hair, looking positively panicked.
"Rafa, are you okay?" You asked him carefully.
"Yes. I just don't know if I'm supposed to laugh or cry."
"Me neither," you said quietly, "I have no idea what I'm hoping for."
"We - we can talk about that later. Just... take the test," he handed you a small box.
"Now?"
"Yes," he nodded, "we have to know, right?"
"Okay," you said nervously. Of course you knew you needed to take it asap. You were just nervous about the result, "do you think you could give me some privacy?"
"I'm not leaving you," Rafa shook his head, "no chance."
"Well, if you want to strip away the very last piece of privacy between us," you said as you pulled down your shorts and sat down on the toilet.
"If you're pregnant, there are not going to be any secrets between your body and me anyway," he said slowly.
You pulled off the cap on the test and pulled it between your legs so you could pee on it.
"What do we do if it's positive?" You looked up at him as you flushed the toilet after you.
"We take it one step at a time," he nodded slowly.
"Okay," you whispered, still in a state of shock. Your heart was beating fast in your chest as you glanced at your watch, watching the seconds slowly tick by. "It's been a minute. We should check it," you picked up the test without looking at the result, "here, you do it..."
"Me? Are you sure?" He stammered.
"Yes, please Rafa. I can't do it," you whispered.
Rafa took the pregnancy test from you with a gulp and shot you a doe-eyed look before he turned his attention to the stick in his hand. Slowly, he turned it over so he could read the test result. At first, he was staring at the result with huge eyes, but slowly, his hand went to his lips and his eyes started watering.
"What does it say?" You said in a raspy voice even though you already knew.
Rafa looked up a you with a tender expression on his face, his eyes all soft and wetted with tears, "baby, you're pregnant..." he said quietly with the biggest smile on his face.
"We're having a baby?" You blinked a few times, your hands flying to your stomach. A weird bubbly feeling creeping up through your body.
"We're having a baby," he laughed and pulled you in for a bear hug, "oh my god, we're having a baby!"
And you immediately knew; this was happiness in its purest form.
      You relished in seeing your boyfriend’s sleeping face before you walked back into the kitchen. In truth, you’d already started dinner since hotpots were generally dishes that took too long to make. You sashayed into the kitchen and turned the heat up a little before skipping to a small closet you had where you’d hidden some holiday decorations; candles, tinsel, wreaths, and statues of little angels in a small box, your eyes gleaming as you bit your lip excitedly. You kneeled beside the box still in your boyfriend’s getup, happy that he wasn’t pissed at you for wearing his clothes, smiling because you figured out that he was in his funk because he hadn’t been sleeping well. You moved quickly to make sure everything got done so that you could go pumpkin hunting, or maybe you’d ask Sasuke or Naruto to go see if there were any that even grew in this region, I mean “Village Hidden in the Leaves,” should have plenty of different plants and such right? You giggled softly to yourself as you took out a string of lights that you’d never gotten to use and you plugged them in and stretched them out completely, watching all of the purples and blues, magenta, orange, reds and yellows glow and illuminate your living room, though they couldn’t compete with how your bright smile beamed around the room. “Woah,” you whispered softly as you gently touched the dull tips of the lights, watching the reflection on your hand.
“I forgot how much I loved these things,” you laughed softly looking in the box, seeing how many more lights you had than everything else. “…. Apparently,” you say quietly as you bite your lip. You move immediately to playing holiday music quietly as to not disturb your sleeping boyfriend, and then you get to work after checking the hotpot which was still simmering quite nicely under its cover giving the house scents of sweetened soy sauce, garlic, meats and other ingredients. You danced around happily to “Mary Did You Know,” even though you weren’t necessarily religious, the holiday music of the time really brought out your festive interior designing skills. You skip over to your open window as the skyline turns purple and blue with the seafood greens fading a little more prominently now. You kneeled down and waved at the kids who loved to observe you- mostly because you were so nice to them and actually interacted with them- and they giggled and grinned, waving back in return, deciding to stay a little longer just to watch. They could smell your dinner and one of them even approached as you climbed on your window sill, weaving the first strand of lights through the curtain rod deciding that you’d add more later if needed. You swayed your hips to the music startled by one of the small voices and you looked down with a closed eye grin.
“Hey there! What can I do for ya today sweetheart,” you chime out happily as you look at the little girl and she smiles back up at you.
“U-Um oh yeah! Mrs. Hatake- Sensei,” she said softly and your eyes widened a little as you shook your head.
“Oh, u-uh honey that’s not necessary. We ai… We’re not married- yet,” you say softly. She nodded and corrected herself.
“R-Right… I-I’m sorry,” she said softly as she tilted her head. “How’s Ms. Hatake- Chan?” She looked up at you cautiously before proceeding. You gently pet her head and smiled a little, wiping a little bit of glitter off of her cheek with your thumb.
“That’s just fine sweetheart. What’s up?” You say softly as you sit down on the window sill with your feet hanging out of the window. “Just remember to keep it down y’all,” you say softly as you slowly moved one finger over your lips. “Kakashi -Sensei is sleeping right now,” you said cheerily while the other kids approached and surrounded you.
“O-Oh I just wanted to say that y-your dinner smells really good,” she said softly starting to scratch behind her ear under her pigtails. “A-And I was also wondering what’s that?” She pointed inside at the tinsel.
“Oh that?” You looked over your shoulder and smiled a little. “I’m just working on decorating the house… I mean… For the h-holidays. Where I’m from this is what we do and Kakashi- Sensei is letting me do it after a talk we had,” you say with a sweet smile as she nuzzles your lap. You gently pet her head while looking at the other kids. “Don’t worry your pretty little heads about a thing I’m gonna have something for all of y’all here soon. Actually,” you say with a soft grin, leaning forward as they gathered around. “Y’all can help me out right now. Y’all ever heard of a pumpkin,” you ask as you tilt your head. Only about 3 of them nod, the rest of them stared at you blankly ready to help you however you needed. “Y’all go with these three, they’ll show you, I promise. I’mma need about 4 or 5 of them, so if y’all work together and get some, I’ll have special treats for y’all by tomorrow night,” you say with a soft grin. Instantly they grouped up and set off in search of the pumpkins you needed all shouting “ARIGATO MS. HATAKE- CHAN,” at you over their shoulders once they were far enough away they thought they wouldn’t disturb Kakashi’s sleep. You watched until they were out of eyeshot, sliding back in your home and skipping over to the tinsel pile. You looked it all over and took a white tinsel string in your fingers, gently massaging the soft materiel through your fingers before hopping back up on the window sill, gently weaving the strand through the lights so none was obstructing the other.
“Ooh this is so pretty,” you whisper softly as you finished braiding the tinsel and the lights with the curtain rod, hopping down and dancing around a little more as the song changed to one you haven’t heard since you were little about chestnuts roasting on an open fire. You giggled again and gently twirled around the living room with a red string of tinsel and sashayed over to your fireplace, setting it up so that you could place candles on the counter inside of the tinsel. You also decided, while you were at it, to spark up your  fireplace and turn your music up just a little. Your house already started to look more festive and you decided that, for the moment, you were done with the lights and tinsel so you didn’t overdo it. You gathered up some candles and some of the angel statues and you smiled as you hopped back over to your fireplace, setting the candles up in such a way that there was a fall one after a winter one surrounding the three angel statues you put up. You stroked their porcelain cheeks with your nail and hummed softly as you smiled a little. You sighed quietly as you hummed sweetly to the song, sparking up a couple of the fall oriented candles, not noticing that Kakashi had walked out of the room and closed the curtains and was now leaning against the wall staring at you with his arms crossed. You still swayed your hips slowly, deciding that there was a strip that could benefit from an extra string of lights, and because of said thought you made your way over to the box again, gently unrolling it and plugging it in. This time they were more neutral cream colored, your eyes glistening at the soft glow. “Woah,” you whispered softly as you wrapped the lights around your body and looked for something that you could stand on and a couple of sticky anchors that wouldn’t be too hard to take down after the fact. You licked over your bottom lip and hummed softly trying to look around for a chair.
Meanwhile, Kakashi had followed you closely and quietly, smirking a little, gently kissing your neck, taking you by the lights and pulling you back into him. You jump a little before you hear his voice and you smiled a little.
“K-Kashi,” you whined softly as you tried to fight your way out of the lights but you were tangled and you didn’t want to mess anything up. “Y-You’re s’posed to be sleeping,” you say as you look over your shoulder and peer at his vague smirk. “What’s that look for? So help me, I’ll force your ass back into bed,” you say with a slight pout.
“Shhh, baby,” he hushed softly as he kissed your neck again, gently allowing his teeth to graze your neck. Then he started to speak again, kisses punctuating every other word. “You know… I did get some sleep though… Right,” he said as his hands made his way to your hips and he pulled you in more. “You’re… Still wearing my clothes,” he said softly as he nipped at your ear.
“Y-Yea so? What about i-it,” you said shakily trying to stifle your soft whimpers. “Why aint you asleep again? Wet dream or something,” you tease before he nodded.
“Actually, yes. It started as nightmares… Then I eased myself back to sleep after reading a book… Then I started thinking about you and I woke up grinding against a pillow,” he said bluntly causing your skin to burn with a practically scalding invisible blush.
“I-IT WAS A JOKE,” you said as you turned your face away from him to hide as if he could see your blush even if he wanted to.
“Was it? Oh… Well, I wasn’t joking,” he said softly as he pressed his bulge against you and your legs started to shake a little. “Can you feel it? This is what you wanted.. Right,” he asked as he turned your head to look at him and his vague smirk grew a little less vague.
“K-Kakashi! B-Behave yourself,” you tried to command as you bit on the inside of your cheek. “D-Dinner should b-be done soon and I have kids that should be back soon… I asked them to pumpkin hunt for me,” you say as you fight your way out of his arms. “Can you please untangle me so I can go check our hotpot,” you ask as you spin on your heel and look at him. He just stands there with a challengingly teasing stare and then he walks over to the couch, tilting his head some.
“I’m sleepy, baby,” he said in that deep raspy voice he took on when he was both tired and turned on. You were practically dripping just hearing him talk, and as much as you would have loved to hop on him right there, you had to behave yourself. He stared at the fireplace and ran his fingers through his fluffy icy white hair and turned the TV on but had it on mute so you could listen to your music. “Everything looks good though.”
“…. Fine if you wanna be like that,” you grumble before looking around for something and you spot a small cup on the counter. “Substitution Jutsu,” you mumble under your breath, making the hand sign needed just barely before you took the place of the cup and the cup was in the tangle of lights. “You aint gotta be like that,” you say softly as you move to untangle the lights, extremely relieved that the cup was empty. You sighed softly and looked over at where your future husband sat on the couch, just waiting a moment to stare at him.
He had a pillow in his lap and his breaths were shaky and labored. You should’ve known that he’d take care of it himself, as he wasn’t much of a fighter when it came to things like this. He was too dense to realize when you wanted him and when you didn’t in actuality, and as a result, he never pushed because he never wanted you to be uncomfortable. He was only halfway paying attention to the TV, his eyes fluttering as he bit his lip and rutted his hips up into the pillow. His eyes glistened as he let out a sort of loud moan, his fingers digging into the cushion, his legs trembling a little as he moaned out your name sort of forgetting you were there in the same room as him. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes as he tried to edge himself. You just sat there with butterflies erupting in your stomach, feeling your nipples get a little hard and press against your bra, and without even checking you knew that you were already completely soaked just hearing his smoky tone as he called out for you and only you.
You pulled yourself out of your trance before going to check on your dinner, catching an earful of Kakashi orgasming on the couch, his breathing stalled as he broke out in a fit of small moans that were a bit whinier than usual and you noticed that they were also a little louder. You bit your lip before looking down at all of the boiled ingredients and sniffed it causing your eyes to water a little. “Goddamn,” you whispered softly as there were excited knocks on the door. “Perfect timing because dinner just finished,” you mumbled to yourself, shaking all of the perverse thoughts out of your head before hopping to the door. “Hey babes,” you say to all of the kids as you kneel down to their height. Each one of the kids carried a big pumpkin and a little one. “Oh my goodness! Look at all of these pumpkins,” you say with teary excited eyes. You thought for a moment before looking over your shoulder at Kakashi who was standing over you with a sort of aloof grin on his face. “You guys can come in for a moment if you want, just to put the pumpkins inside and say hello to Kakashi- Sensei,” you say as the kids start to shovel in your house looking at the pristine festive wonderland in awe.
“Right there in the pantry will be fine,” you say with a soft giggle as you watch them neatly stack the pumpkins. They all give a bow to Kakashi who, in turn, bows back. The other kids bounded outside with giggles of goodbye to play a little bit longer on their way home while two kids lingered back in the house hearing Carol of the Bells playing in your home.
“W-What’s this?” The little girl says softly as she looks over her shoulder at you.
“Oh this? This is music… I hear you and your friends singing and chanting all the time… But this is a holiday song, actually it’s one of my favorites,” you say with a sheepish grin as you take the girl and her brother by the hand. Here, you guys can take a look around if you’d like,” you say softly as you look over at Kakashi. He just watched with that formal and withdrawn expression he usually carried, pulling his mask up once more around others. You led them into the living room and smiled a little at everything as the two kids looked around the room with dropped jaws.
You twirled the girl and she giggled as she stumbled into you and she looked up at you. You twirled the boy and he laughed softly as he looked around and then you started to sing, his eyes locked on you as you started to dance around with them in the living room.
“Hark how the bells sweet silver bells, all seem to say, throw cares away,” you sing quietly as you dance with the children who were giggling and swaying and with you. Kakashi had heard you singing before but only in soft mumbles, but as he heard you now singing and teaching the song to the children in the room, he felt a pang in his chest, his breath drawn from him, his eyes widening a little as he watched you dancing with the kids in your house.
“Merry merry merry Christmas, merry merry merry Christmas,” you giggle softly as you sing and the kids mimic you laughing and spinning around the room as you smile wide at the kids and your eyes fall to Kakashi to see if he was irritated or if he wanted you to wrap your little encounter up but you just saw his starstruck eyes absolutely adoring you as you started to dance around with a soft twinkle in his eye, an opaque smile on his face. You grin at him and lift the little girl onto your shoulders, her legs draped over your shoulders as she looked down at you dancing with her brother. Kakashi took the sight in and he sucked in a sharp breath trying to keep himself calm, wishing that these village kids were his own with you as his wife. He looked down at his feet and he listened to the chiming giggles and your soothing singing voice.
“Yeah! It’s just like that sweetheart,” you giggle as you teach the boy some basic footwork that went along with the song, and as most of the shinobi kids did, he caught on rather quickly and he started to sing having caught onto the song quickly. “Hark how the bells sweet silver bells,” you broke out into a fit of giggles before you could even finish the line. You picked the little boy up in the middle of his spin and twirled with them in the middle of the room letting him rest on your bicep. “Say, have you little ones had dinner yet? I think we have more than enough to share,” you say softly as you kiss the side of the little boy’s head and he looked away.
“N-Not yet… B-But we won’t intrude! We’ll get dinner on our o-“
“Nonsense,” you giggle softly as you dance your way into the kitchen with the both of the kids and grab a couple of bowls out of the cupboard. “We’ll feed you… I know you two don’t take too kindly to sleeping in other people’s homes, but just know that if you guys need a place to stay at least through some rain or through the winter or something, our door is always open to you,” you breathed out quietly as you kissed the side of the girl’s head and the little boy’s cheek, spooning a bit of the hotpot into the bowls for the both of them, leaving the heat on simmer. “When’s the last time y’all had a MEAL to eat,” you questioned as you grabbed out two pairs of chopsticks and took them over to the table and set them down in their chairs, their eyes sparkling as they accepted your chopsticks. You gently run your fingers through their hair before looking up at Kakashi. You walk over and lead him over to the table as well, pulling a chair out for him and gently pushing him to sit into it. You walk back to the kitchen, the center of his attention as the kids started to poke around their bowls with salivating mouths. “Well… I m-mean I guess it’s been awhile,” they both whispered before taking small bites.
Meanwhile, Kakashi’s eyes were locked on you, his eyes sparkling as he watched you make his bowl, his mind running. It raced with how natural you looked with kids, how when you walked he could tell that you could do everything on your own. He adored everything about you, how you don’t look at him like he needs to save you, with how you seem to always have a level head about anything and everything, how selfless and compassionate you were; especially when it came to the kids of the village. He let out a dreamy sigh as you walked back over to him with his bowl and a pair of chopsticks in hand. You giggled softly as you caught onto the gaze realizing this was one of the first times you were able to show him how good you were with kids. You set the bowl in front of him, handed him the chopsticks, hugged him from behind and gently kissed his cheek. “Let me know how everything tastes, alright? I’m not used to making Japanese foods, but I think I’m gettin’ a little bit of the hang of it,” you giggled softly as Kakashi leaned forward.
“That’s false. She’s an amazing chef,” he ‘whispered’ to the kids and they both giggled and nodded in agreement. Your heart swelled as you squeezed his shoulders gently and made your way back to the kitchen to prepare your own bowl. Like with everything you do, you did it with tact, your eyes glistening as you did so, quickly skipping to the table to meet with everybody else. Like usual, you took your seat next to Kakashi, one of your legs in your lap as you bow a little.
“Itadakimasu,” you whisper softly before stirring everything up, gently scooping up some food and nibbling on it with glistening eyes. “Oh wow… I don’t know how it should taste, but I think this is pretty good,” you say softly as you look at everyone with your friendly grin. Kakashi nodded a little and kissed your cheek gently.
“Don’t worry, baby,” he said in that seductive tone of his. “This is VERY well done… And in this very… Comfortable home… I could get used to this,” he said with a soft grin, kissing your cheek gently, his hand resting on your inner thigh causing your toes to curl a little and your breath to waver.
“W-Well… I’m glad you like it, baby,” you say sweetly, kissing his forehead before pushing his head away so he could eat. The kids giggle as they quickly continue to shovel their food in their mouths, mumbling softly with mouthfuls of food in their mouths. “Hark how the bells sweet silver bells,” they managed to mumble before giggling softly. “I’m never gonna stop saying that,” the girl said quietly. You tilted your head a little and bit your lip a little before speaking up, brushing your curly hair out of your face. The glow cast through the home gave your skin a sort of golden aura and Kakashi couldn’t take his eyes off of it. He bit his lip and continued to eat, that same distant expression on his face upon first glance. You looked at the kids and your heart melted at how they teased each other, how they were so close because they didn’t necessarily have anywhere else to go.
“You both are precious,” you say under your breath as you noticed they were close to finished eating. “Did y’all want some more or are you both good to go?” You stood up and grabbed their bowls and took them over to your sink, grabbing down 2 thermos jars and 4 large mason jars, filling every container to the brim with the remainder of the hotpot.
“I think we’re okay Ms. Hatake-Chan,” the boy said softly as he hopped down and he helped his sister out of the chair. They made their way to the door and you stopped them with frowning faces, kneeling in front of them with the armful of containers you prepared for them. “H-Huh?”
“Do you little ones have names,” you asked softly as you looked at each of them in the eye. They both shook their head and you sighed softly. “Alright… How about you,” you point to the girl. “We call you Lily-Chan because you’re as pretty as water lilies,” you say and that causes her to giggle and play with her fingers. “And you,” you pointed to the boy. “How ‘bout we call you… Sora- Chan, because Sora means universe in Japanese if I’m remembering correctly… And there’s nothing, absolutely nothing, in this universe that’s greater than you,” you say softly as you kiss their foreheads gently and slide the thermoses and the mason jars in their bags. “I hear it’s supposed to be cold tonight, so you guys take care of yourselves,” she said as they both fought back tears. Lily and Sora stood side by side and bowed holding their hands and sniffing quietly.
“Arigato gozaimasu Ms. Hatake- Chan,” they said softly and you picked their heads up to make them look at you.
“You’re very welcome darlings,” you said quietly as you fluffed their hair and opened the door for them and smiled watching them walk out of your home. You made sure to wait until they were out of eyeshot and then you closed the door and looked over your shoulder at Kakashi who’s arms were crossed as he stared at you.
“You’re… So… Amazing,” he said slowly as he pulled his mask down and moved his icy white hair out of his face so that you could see him completely.
“W-Well… I mean… It’s just being a decent h-human being and caring for them kids.. I always do anyways… And it looked like they hadn’t been eating. I didn’t invade space d-did I? I don’t want you to be uncomfortable in your own home either.
“No no no,” he said softly as he took you by the waist and pulled you closer. “If anything it made me realize that much more how bad I want to have a family with you,” he said before pressing a soft kiss into your plush lips, his tongue wasting no time, swiping over your bottom lip, soft groans escaping his lips. You whimpered softly, gently pushing your hands against his chest, allowing him to have the lead. He pushed you into the door and he bit your lip more rough than he had before. You whined as you ran your hand down his side and his back on down to his thigh, trying to force his leg in between yours. He smirked against your lips, his breathing slow and labored, soft growls threatening to spill out, his eyes halfway opened staring at you. His leg slipped in between yours and you immediately started to grind against his leg, his breathing only picking up a little, his free hand now running up your shirt, unclipping your bra in one slick move, his hand gently groping your chest as he let out low moans. His enthusiastic hand worked at teasing your nipples, his teeth bore at you a little as he watched you grinding needily against his stocky thigh. “You like that? Hm? G-Grinding on Sir’s thigh like that,” he said as he jolted his leg up into your cunnie causing your back to arch as you let out a soft cry.
“Answer me, baby,” he said softly as he bit his lip, one of his hands moving to grip your neck, his finger squeezing a little as he growled near your ear. “And tell me how much you want me inside of you,” he growled before he bit the shell of your ear causing you to gasp, your core hot as you felt you became even more soaked, your lip quivering to the point that you could barely even answer.
“I-It feels so good, f-fuck~ K-Kakashi,” you whined softly, gripping to his shirt. “Baby!~ F-Fuck- P-Please keep teasing my nipples like that, sir,” you whispered softly looking up at his keen gaze staring into you. “I-I want t-to feel you inside of me,” you whined softly before reaching to kiss him again wanting to feel his satiny smooth tongue in your mouth again. You felt extremely needy, your legs damn near giving out under you. “Baby!” You threw your head back and leaned into him, your hips jolting into him, his eyes glistening as he looked you over. He picked you up and took you over to the couch, tossing you on the couch before crawling on top of you, gripping your neck again and pushing you into the couch as he peered down at you. He started to grind into you wanting your legs to pull him closer, trying to fight through his sensitivity just to please you. He couldn’t wait too much longer, however, lifting the shirt you stole from him, his lips locked around your nipple as he lazily pushed his pants down and he pulled yours down too, one hand kneading your breast as his fingers pushed themselves in between your legs, his slender fingers plunging into your tight dripping hole. Your back arches a little and you let out a loud whine as your legs’s hold on his hips firm a little and he smirked a little, the tips of his fingers stroking against your special spot without any effort from him, and every single time his fingers curled up, your toes curled too, and so did your back. Within minutes, the accuracy of his fingers; the pressure, the stroke of his fingers, the way it swiped right against your sweet spot; had you a babbling drooling mess underneath him and the only thing that you could mumble out was “Sir please,” and “More!” He felt how you clenched around him, slowly and surely losing control of your babbles, whines, and loud moans, already practically crying because of how overstimulated that g-spot of yours it. Your legs were trembling and already you were teetering on the edge of cumming for him, but you wanted to hold out for him. He saw how much you were struggling with just his fingers and with one swift movement you were sitting on his face, one leg hanging off of the couch.
OH, it’d been awhile since THIS had happened.
You couldn’t even ask a question or catch your breath before you felt his slick slippery tongue enter you, probing your insides to find that spot you loved to have stimulated so much. Your thick thighs suffocated him practically, but you didn’t care, his shaky breath against your drenched throbbing pussy only added to the feeling. Your back arched with each time his tongue fell flat against your slit and lapped up every single las drop of your juices, pushing hard against your clit before diving deep inside of you once again, sucking you down before cleaning you up again, repeating the process all over again. Each time, your leg jolted, your abs tightened, your nails dug into his thighs- making his cock twitch in his pants just for you- and you threw your head back trying to keep your moans quiet but failing. “K-KAKASHI! P-Please I ca-can’t take a-anymore o-or I’ll go c-crazy,” you whined out loudly as you started to bounce a little on his face, your whole body tremoring as you came over his face and his tongue. He decided that a soft laugh and his teeth gently nipping and tugging at your clit would be perfect for the moment and all you could do was orgasm, your eyes widening before clamping shut, your breaths drawn out, your hips grinding into his face, your hand squeezing and stroking at his bulge causing him to push his airy soft moans into your pussy as his tongue continued to circle and plow at your insides. He loved how it felt to have you clenched around his tongue, and he loved especially how it felt to have your throbbing clit grinding into him, your hand pleasing him as he tongue fucked you. All of his lewd noises made it back to you, his slurping, his moans, and the faint drunken mumbles of your name he managed in between bites and sucks, the way his tongue stirred you up making you practically fall apart on the same couch he pleased you on. At this point, you were still cumming, and you couldn’t stop, but the fact that he wouldn’t let up either was new so you weren’t quite sure how to handle it. Your body tried to jerk away from him, your hips jolting up and away from him, your tears streaming down your face as you mumbled please over and over and over again wanting him to stop but wanting more at the same time. He only responded with a harsh slap to your ass before locking his arms around your waist and holding you down on him while he finished basking in your flavor. You figured the only way to get him to stop was to return the favor, so while he was busy eating you out, you took his cock in your hands, sucking on the plush tip that was dripping with precum already. He let out a soft moan into your cunnie and you felt his back arch under you, his cock twitching in your hands as you swirled your flat tongue around his tip to collect any of the escaping precum, your fingers steady stroking the rest of his length, your fingers feeling out every single vein and detail as you continued to try and jerk your hips away from Kakashi’s face. You couldn’t help but to let your moans and harsh breaths dance on his cock as you pleased him and he pleased you. You completely ate his flavor up, your eyes glistening before they shut and you continued to ride his tongue. You sucked hard, your cheeks hollowing out causing his back to arch even more, his dull nails trying to work into your thighs as you teased him by the inch, your tongue pressing him into the roof of your mouth which drove him absolutely insane. He whined out as his legs jerked a little, his arms not budging with letting you go.
“Please,” you whine softly. “I-Inside,” you slurred out as you took him all the way down your throat, gagging around him, making sure your throat choked his cock out. His eyes glistened as he looked down at you, gagging and choking on his dick, his hips jolting trying to get in deeper but he couldn’t. It got to the point where you felt you were going to pass out so you stopped and came up for air, your soft whines barely audible to him. You tried your best to hold your noises but you couldn’t, squeaking as he pushed you forward a little. He hugged onto you as he slid himself inside, his lips pushing out his soft shuddery moan into your ear as you arched your back and slowly started to push yourself back on him. He already felt like he was going to pass out just from how well your throat choked his cock out and you couldn’t help but to bury your face into the couch as Kakashi gyrated his strong hips, grinding you into the palatial cushion. You couldn’t help but to push yourself back against him, even the slow pace he was known for about to make you cum again. He reached deep inside of you, and you forced him to go even deeper as you grinded your hips against him. He reached under your hair and grabbed your neck from behind, squeezing gently as he leaned forward again to nibble at your ear, whispering sweetly to you, your eyes barely even able to stay open. You clenching around him made him see stars, practically drooling over you, but while you couldn’t keep it together, he had to in order to drive you all the way to home base with pleasure.
“Do you l-like it like this,” he whispered quietly in your ear, his labored breaths and soft moans melted into your ear again as he slowed down even more, his hips still strong as he reached inside of you. “H-Hm? A-Answer me, Blossom,” he commanded as he pulled your hips against him and held you in place feeling your slick riding all the way down his cock, his back arching a little.
“P-Please, Sir,” you whine out quietly barely even able to speak that’s just how braindead you were from how much pleasure you were receiving. “M-More! N-Need… More,” you gasped out and he smirked with a soft hum of approval, his hands gripping the arm of the couch now as his legs became a little more stable and solid, his lips still touching your ear, his teeth nibbling away at the outer shell, his eyes glistening as he edged himself at your expense. You looked over your shoulder at him and he truly looked like a divine icon; the way he started to rock into you, a small bulge forming in your stomach because of it, the way every single one of his muscles flexed with even the smallest move, the way that the candles, fireplace, and the faint light from the TV cast a glow on him that was unmatched, carving his features out more, his body blanketed by a body of sweat, his expression quirked with how well you clenched around him.
“I want you,” he mumbled softly in your ear, his speech and breathing short and choppy as he pounded into you a bit quicker, not meaning to be as rough as he was. “I w-want to e-expand our family,” he breathed out as his moans became more needy, his hips slapping against yours sloppily. Honestly, this was the fastest he’d ever fucked you, and at this point you were stuck seeing stars with your tongue lolled out of your mouth, your golden glow cast by the lights around you only making Kakashi more aroused. It was obvious that he was way more vulnerable, you could hear it in his moans, feel it in every single movement that he made, you saw it in the way that one of his hands moved from death gripping at the arm of the couch to tenderly slap, tug, and caress your beautiful brown skin. Tendrils of his hair fell just before his eyes, his eyes halfway closed, his body encompassing your own as you both fell into a quick rhythm. Your body was on fire with his next words, your eyes widening and glistening with tears that fell down your cheeks from how good he was making you feel; “I-I want to ma-marry you,” he groaned out in a choked moan before he slowed to an almost stop and he turned your head towards him, gently pressing his lips against yours again, his hand riding your side as he tried to catch his breath, his fingers feeling over your soft stomach, all the way up to grope at your chest so gently, even as your back still arched up into him. You both were a mess of moans, drooling over each other as you tangled your tongues, your teeth nipping at one another gently, your hand on one of his, your eyes now completely closed as he pushed you into the couch more, your clammy bodies trembling against one another before pulling away just to stare at each other.
“Please,” he said softly as he started to pound into you again. “I’m g-going to cum… D-Don’t look away from me,” he said softly, his glazed eyes holding back tears as he gritted his teeth a little. “I want t-to look in your eyes as w-we watch each other… F-Fall apart,” he choked out quietly, towering over you, tilting your head up so that you were staring at him. He fed you sloppy kisses as he pushed against your special spot, and it took another hard clench from you to send him orgasming again, his teeth clamping down on your lip before he pulled away, his eyes rolling into the back of his head, his body quaking and vibrating the whole couch as he allowed his body to tense up, his hips to slam into you one final time, sharply chasing after air that didn’t want to come down, choked moans leaving him, his lips barely brushing against yours as he reached his climax, painting your insides white as they overflowed with his cum. Your own body gave out as you came, pressing your body up against his, your nails digging into his hand, your eyes crossing as you drooled out, screaming out his name, your trembling body falling against the couch as you allowed Kakashi to gently and slowly ride out his high, every single stroke hitting you at a different angle making your body twitch and tingle before you felt him pull out. He watched his cum mix with yours as it spilled out of you and he smiled at the bulge he could feel with his tender fingers as he caressed your body. He laid down behind you, his muscular body now completely relaxed as he just tried to catch his breath. He looked up at the movie playing on TV, spooning you from behind, covering the both of you with the throw that you decorated the couch with earlier. His strong arms made you feel protected, and when you were like this, both of your guards were let down and you let the love that you had for one another protect you both. His fingers danced over your skin and he moved your hair as he gently fed you kisses to your neck, your shoulder, and the top of your back as you absentmindedly played with his fingers and watched the movie that was on TV; which by the way was Home Alone.
“I meant what I said,” Kakashi chimed sweetly in your ear and suddenly those butterflies were back in your stomach. “I want to marry you, Blossom,” he whispered softly. “I want you to be the mother of my kids… I want to spend the entire rest of my life with you,” he said softly, sounding like he was about to cry. You heard his breath shake and you could tell his sincerity and that made your heart absolutely melt for your man.
“I would absolutely love to be Mrs. Kakashi Hatake,” you say softly, leaning your head back into his body, your eyes peering at him from below. He looks down at you, a blush nipping at his cheeks as you giggle softly, your hand reaching up to caress his tensed jaw. “And I would love to mother your children… I want you,” you echoed back to him softly, a small smile showing itself as he held your hand against his face. He couldn’t do anything but allow himself to truly fall apart, burying his face in the crook of your neck as he let himself cry quietly, still kissing your shoulder and neck whenever he could. “Aww… My beautiful boyfriend,” you whispered softly, gently playing in his hair as he wept into you, clinging to you, trembling, completely emotional, raw, and vulnerable. You adored that he trusted you enough to show this other side of himself to you, and you also relished in his confessions to you, having never been told such sweet things before. “Is that what you were thinking about when I was taking care of Lily and Sora,” you ask sweetly, smiling at him over your shoulder. He looks up at you with puffy red eyes, smiling just a hint as he nodded at you.
“It’s just… How you… Always look after people, especially kids I just… I admire it a great deal Blossom,” he said softly as you giggled. “You invited them into your home, and danced around with them… And fed them and gave them food… And opened your home up to them…. I can’t just… Ignore that. Especially because you’re the life of this village,” he chimed softly. “I have never seen these people so hopeful or lively… I have never seen the kids so open to playing outside… I have never seen people support each other here like they do now until you got here and spread a little bit of your magic around… And yet nobody takes care of the village kids… Ever. You love them, I can see that, and they love you too. Every day I have people coming to me; ‘hey can you tell Ms. Hatake-Chan thanks for’ this that or whatever,” he said softly, his eyes peering deep into yours and you tried to fight back your own tears. You didn’t realize how much of a role you played in the village because it didn’t even feel like a chore. It was what came natural to you, and you loved that you could create such a difference in just a couple of years.
“I’m just doing what I love to do,” you whispered softly as you kissed along his jawline. “I love you so much, Kakashi Hatake,” you say as you lull him to sleep again, not wanting to until he was at ease. You sat up a little and allowed him to use your chest as a pillow, his arms still holding you tight, keeping you close, and you never felt more safe. “You’re my king… And I’m your queen… You’re all mine, nothing’s gonna change that,” you whispered softly as you watched his eyes close.
“I love you too,” he mumbled sleepily, a small half smile creeping on his face as he slipped off into dreamland and you divided your attention between the movie and your sleeping boyfriend wanting to watch both of them over until you allowed your drowsiness to take over completely.
Dogs.
Pairing: Chris Evans x F!Reader
Genre: Fluff
Warnings: None
Requested: Nope
Summary: Y/N and Chris meet at the garden when their dogs take a liking to each other. Can the same be said for Y/N and Chris?
Author's Note: Hiya peeps! I already posted this on my old account... which is gone (RIP) so I'm posting it again over here! Enjoy!
---
"Zeus! Zeus, honey, get back!" Y/N sighed as her cute little dog chased butterflies in the garden. She sat down on a bench, tired. Zeus would get to her soon. Zeus, if you didn't know, was a female dog. A bitch, if you will. She had just jokingly decided to name her that but Zeus liked it so much, she wouldn't answer to any other name. "Dodge! Dodger! Come back!"
Yes, celebrity sightings in this garden were a lot more common than you think. When someone sat next to her, Y/N looked at the person. Chris Evans sat next to her, drinking some water. When he noticed that his bottle was empty, he sighed. He was feeling extremely thirsty. Y/N noticed that and looked at her own water bottle which was untouched.
"Would you like some water?" she offered, holding it up.."Thank you so much!" He sent a grateful smile her way as he drank the water. After that, they sat in silence for a while. Chris stole a glance at her. "So, which one is yours?" he asked slowly. "The one playing with your dog," Y/N laughed. Chris looked at her. Y/N was smiling at the place where Zeus and Dodger were together chasing butterflies.
No, Chris, she's a stranger! he thought. But she gave you water! That's not called being a stranger, water is the most important component of your life, his conscience scolded him. "So, what's your name?" Chris asked the pretty lady sitting next to him. "I'm Y/N Y/L/N, delighted to meet you," she said, turning to give him a small smile.
The two dogs returned to their owners after successfully getting themselves tired by chasing insects.
"Dodger likes you." Dodger was happily barking as Y/N ruffled his hair. "Zeus likes you, it seems," Y/N chuckled when she saw Zeus snuggling into Chris' leg. The owners quickly tied their dogs on leash and stood up with their belongings. When they tried to take their dogs away from each other, the dogs whimpered.
"It's okay, Zeus, I'm sure we'll meet Dodger again soon," Y/N cooed at her dog. Then she looked at Chris. "Yes, of course, we will." He smiled at her. She grinned as Zeus dejectedly started following her. "Y/N wait, give me your number so we can make plans!" She turned around. They exchanged numbers and in the meantime, Zeus and Dodger exchanged goodbyes.
After that, Y/N and Chris parted ways. The reason Zeus and Dodger had bonded so much was that they were... they're dogs... male, female... figure it out. They were dogs, they didn't care about love. Breeding was more important to them, unlike humans.
After Y/N had reached home, she first kept all the stuff away and prepared food for Zeus. Zeus, meanwhile, was lying in front of the door with a sad face.
"Oh don't worry, you big baby, you'll meet Dodger soon enough," Y/N said, "Hopefully," was added under her breath. Zeus looked up. She whimpered and Y/N's heart went out to her dog. "Aw, it's okay, eat. You'll feel better," she chuckled, cuddling up to Zeus as Zeus ate.
"Dodger, cheer up, I can't see you like this," Chris sighed once he was home. Dodger, like Zeus, laid down in front of the door with a whine. Chris had the same idea as Y/N and prepared some food for Dodger. He kept his bowl in front of him and Dodger looked up. "That's my boy," Chris said fondly as Dodger started munching on the food. Both the dogs felt better after eating, but they still missed their best friend.
Chris, not bearing to see Dodger like that, called Y/N. Y/N was doing the laundry when her phone rang from the living room. Zeus barked. "Don't worry honey, it might be mom," Y/N chuckled, going to the living room to get her phone. When she saw Chris' name, she got confused. "Hi," she answered the call.
"Hey, I just wanted to ask, is Zeus doing okay?" His question didn't frighten her, nor startle her. "She wasn't but I gave her food, now she's fine. She still misses Dodger, though," Y/N chuckled.
"Good, I was just wondering if you'd come to the garden tomorrow, too," Chris asked nervously. "Of course, I take Zeus there every day, it's her favourite place," Y/N replied. "That's good, I'll be there tomorrow, whatever timing's convenient for you," he smiled, relieved. "6?" she asked him.
"Yes, that'll do. Bye, see you tomorrow!" He hung up the phone and turned to Dodger, who was watching intently.
Y/N kept her phone away and turned to Zeus, who was watching her intently. Both Chris and Y/N got smiles on their faces at the same time.
"Tomorrow you're meeting Zeus."
"Tomorrow you're meeting Dodger."
Both dogs simultaneously let out a happy bark, making their owners 1000 times more happy than they already were. Y/N went to do her laundry again and Chris went to see the TV with Dodger. As Y/N was putting her clothes in a dryer, she realized something.
"Oh, God, is this a date?" she groaned. Meanwhile, Chris had realized the same thing too. He freaked out, he had just asked her on a date! "Doing it for Dodger. Not myself," he mumbled under his breath.
"I'm doing it for Zeus, not myself," Y/N reminded herself and took out the dry clothes from the dryer. She then went to her room to iron them.
---
The next day dawned way earlier than either of them would have wanted. Y/N's biggest concern was the media seeing Chris and her together.
She didn't want hoards of angry fans at her doorstep attempting to murder her for having a goddamn date with Chris Evans. She hated the media for posting mindless things like those.
Chris' concern, meanwhile, was not that he didn't want to be seen in the media with her, it was that he didn't want the media to notice her in the first place.
Since the garden was a popular spot for celebs with pets, paparazzi and reporters were always roaming around. And they always printed the wrong sorts of news. He didn't want Y/N to be in a bad light because Hey, did you see that girl with Chris Evans? Yeah, she's such a bitch, I mean, I'm more beautiful, obviously, why doesn't he notice me?!
He had fans like that.
Y/N was obviously more beautiful than any other girl, any other celebrity he had ever seen. Kind, generous, polite, good looking, intelligent… What more could he want? She also had a dog. That was a bonus for him. She treated her dog so well, so kindly, as if it was her firstborn child. Chris could see why Dodger was attracted to Zeus.
He could say the same about himself being attracted to Y/N. She was nice, why the hell couldn't he date her? He would date her and proudly so, okay? "Come on Dodge, we're going to meet Y/N and Zeus!" Chris called out, tying his shoelaces. Dodger came running from the living room.
He waited patiently as Chris quickly tied the leash to Dodger's collar. Y/N was tying a leash to Zeus' collar while she excitedly jumped around. "Okay, baby girl, here we go," Y/N took a deep breath and wore her goggles, opening the door. As soon as the door opened, Zeus attempted to run.
Y/N somehow managed to lock the door when she lost control and Zeus ran, pulling Y/N behind her. Y/N laughed as she ran behind Zeus. They reached the park at 2 minutes to 6 o'clock. They walked in and looked around, Y/N trying to find Chris. She saw him sitting on a bench, far away.
He was checking his watch, Dodger sitting by his leg, wagging his tail. Zeus, when she saw them, ran. Y/N, naturally, ran behind her.
When Chris heard her, he looked up and nearly dropped his phone to the ground. That happy laugh on Y/N's face could make stone-hearted people smile. Y/N, once she was by Chris' side, stopped and took the leash off of Zeus. Chris did the same with Dodger and the two happy dogs took off.
Y/N collapsed on the bench next to Chris, taking deep and heavy breaths. Then, she realized she had forgotten her water bottle. She groaned. "Y/N, everything alright?" Chris asked with concern. "Zeus... made... me... run... all th... all the way up... to here," she wheezed, coughing.
"I feel like you should drink water," he said, patting her shoulder. She was wearing track pants and a loose t-shirt, same with Chris. "I... forgot... my... bottle," she coughed more, sitting up straight. She felt better, but not without water.
"Here. I brought extra, just in case." She accepted his bottle, thanking him. When she drank the water, she felt better. "Thank you so much, Chris," she said, a grateful smile on her face. "A date helps a date." When she heard those words, Y/N looked at Chris with a look of disbelief on her face.
Her eyes wide and her jaw dropped. Chris chuckled. "I realized yesterday, what a date-like situation it was. Couples always bring their dogs for a walk," he shrugged, giving her a lopsided grin. "I didn't think you'd want to acknowledge this as a date," Y/N laughed, running a hand through her shoulder-length hair. Chris was sporting his iconic Captain America beard and long hair.
If you had a chance to see them, they looked so much like a couple you would've thought they were married. They started talking about general things, like what they do, where they live, their hobbies, favourite this, favourite that, blah blah blah.
After a while, as both of them got engrossed in their talks, Y/N noticed that Chris' watch said 8. They spent two hours just talking.
"Chris, it's getting late, I should go," she smiled sheepishly. "Oh, it's 8 already?! I have to head home too," he chuckled and they stood up. "Where are Dodger and Zeus?"
They looked around, panicking because they couldn't find their dogs anywhere. There were still people in the park, so they weren't worried much. "You go there, I'll go there," Chris said, pointing towards the left and right.
Y/N nodded and they left to find their dogs. Y/N was the one who found them. When she found them, she smiled broadly and took a photo. Then she called Chris. "Y/N! Did you find them?" She smiled softly. She told him where she was and once he got there, both of them smiled at their dogs. Zeus and Dodger were sitting under a tree sleeping peacefully.
They were curled up next to each other in a small bundle of fur. Chris put an arm around Y/N's shoulder and she turned to look at him. "They look so happy. You should bring Zeus over some time," he whispered, not looking at her. She nodded and looked down at Zeus and Dodger. They gently woke the doggos up and took them home, both the dogs following their owners in a sleepy stance.
At the garden gate, "I guess I'll see you later."
"See you later, Chris," Y/N replied in a soft voice. In the flow of the moment, Chris quickly leaned in, gave Y/N a kiss on her cheek and left with Dodger. Y/N kept standing in her spot, had Chris Evans just kissed her? She shook her head, sensing many more moments like those to come.
She wasn't even bothered.
She was excited.
A life saved
A Feanor lives AU... more or less. No he's not a ghost in this one. English is not my first language and a large portion of this text was translated from my mother tongue German into English so if some things like metaphors seem weird to you that might be why. I also aplogise for any errors.
There was nobody welcoming them when Nolofinwe and his followers arrived on the northern side of Lake Mithrim. Not that they should have expected this much from Feanáro to begin with. Instead of wasting time waiting for those too proud to come they started setting up their camp and began restocking their food and water supplies as best as they could with their limited resources.
But when the third and fourth day had come to pass without a single word from the camp on the other side of the lake it was not only Nolofinwe who grew tense. When he made his rounds through the rows of tents to look after the injured or to speak with the few scouts they could spare he could hear the people mutter the same things that were going through his own head.
Shouldn’t the Feanorians have noticed them by now? Was it not enough that they had abandoned them in the first place? Left them to fend for themselves? To take on the risk of crossing the grinding ice? Did they have to ignore them even now? Or was the king perhaps absent, so that it was unclear whether they should be approached at all? But even then, Maitimo was not the sort of person who would act like this.
The fifth day had to begin before there was any change to their situation and it was Irisse who brought it upon them in her usual stubborn manner. Nolofinwe watched her drag Tyelkormo of all people from the west side of their camp all the way to where he was standing, watching Isil rise. Huan was trotting after them leisurely, a stark contrast to his master who was complaining loudly about the way he was being treated.
Irisse ignored him and only pulled harder in his arm, her face very much like her mothers when she was angry. For all the noise he was making Tyelkomro was surprisingly tame and went with his cousin rather willingly. He did not even try to bolt when they stopped in front of Nolofinwe and Irisse let go of his arm.
‘Now talk,’ she said and left them to their own devices. Both Tyelkomo and Nolofinwe watched her as she vanished between the tents, her white dress stained with grass and dirt. As Nolofinwe turned his head to look at Tyelkomo he noticed that his nephew's clothes were similarly looking. He did not even need to ask how Irisse had gotten him here.
When it became very clear that she would not return, Tyelkormo turned his head and looked up into his half uncle's face with a look of great discomfort.
‘And?’ he asked, less sharp than normal, ‘What is it that you want to know?’
'Answers for a start,' Nolofinwe found himself replying. Upon closer observation of his nephew’s face he noticed a faint scar above his left eye that had not been there when they had last seen each other.
‘Well they were too frail,’ was all that Tyelkormo said as if the answer was enough in his mind. It was not for Nolofinwe, a fact that the other one quickly realised. He seemed even more uncomfortable than before and only when Huan laid his head on Tyelkormo’s shoulder and nuzzled the right side of his face he replied reculantly: ‘The boats. They were too frail to cross the sea, technically. It’s a miracle we made it work but they wouldn’t have survived another journey. You don’t have to believe me but I can tell you from what I have seen that you would have been lucky to catch a glimpse of them on the far horizon before they would have fallen apart.’
‘The Teleri are… were very well known to keep their ships in good shape. why then should they let boats like this rest in their havens?’
He was aware that Tylekormo, who never had been overly fond of boating, was the last person who could know the answer to this question. Yet Nolofinwe felt the need to ask anyway. Arafinwe would have known surely but Arafinwe was not here with him but on the other side, in Tirion. Instead of an answer all Tylekormo was able to do was flinch when his uncle mentioned the Teleri and bite his lower lip.
Then after they had stood in silence for a while and that silence became uncomfortable he lifted his shoulders and with a defeated tone in his voice he said: ‘What do I know? All I can tell you is what I already have said. They were too frail. One of them nearly sank to the bottom of the ocean during the journey here because it started falling apart. If Aiwë.. Curvo's wife hadn't been there, we wouldn't have been able to fix it in time.'
Ñolofinwë refrained from asking why Curufinwës Telerin wife had decided to accompany her husband even though he had been part of the slaughtering of her kin. He could see that Tyelkormo's patience was running thin. A question like this could end their conversation in a very short amount of time.
'And how did your father expect us to follow him?' he asked instead.
'Not at all,’ Tyelkormo said. ‘Father mentioned something like this but I wasn’t really paying attention.’
It was very much like Tyelkormo to not pay attention and that was not what surprised Nolofinwe. It was the fact that Feanáro had expected him to turn back. Had he not told his brother that he would follow him?
"He wanted us to turn back?"
"Turn back, return home, well whatever. You hardly had any part in... what happened. They probably would have forgiven you."
We didn’t participate. They will forgive us, Nolo.
Arafinwe's voice rang clear in his head and Nolofinwe could barely hold back a flinch on his own. For once his brothers seemed to have thought alike and he could not disagree more with their notions. He was here for a reason and because of a promise he made. He could not just turn back.
It was then that Huan, who had been quiet the entire time and had been resting his chin on Tyelkormo’s shoulder, made a small noise, which Nolofinwe could not quite identify. Tyelkormo petted his head and nodded as if he had understood what his companion wanted to tell him. The uncomfortable look on his face vanished for a moment.
‘I know, Káno wanted us to be back yesterday…,’ he said, then he smiled a little. ‘You just want to see Tyelpe again, don’t you?’
Once again Huan made a noise and this time it sounded like agreement to Nolofinwe.
'You could come with me,' Tyelkormo then addressed Nolofinwe again and he looked like he thought this was a very good idea, 'if you want to talk to someone who is more informed than me.'
Preferably he would have liked the Feanorians to come, for then it would not have looked as if Nolofinwe would give in, but it seemed to him that this would take days perhaps even weeks and he simply did not have the time for this.
'I want to inform Findekáno before we leave.'
'Mhm,' was all his nephew replied and proceeded to scratch Huan behind the ear.
Soon enough they were on their way around the lake to the Feanorian camp. Neither Findekáno nor Turukáno had been particularly happy about Nolofinwe’s announcement but for different reasons as it seemed. Findekáno most certainly had hoped to accompany his father so that he could have a word with Maitimo but Nolofinwe had been clear that he needed his eldest son here to aid his aunt. Turukáno on the other hand had looked like somebody had served him a cup of sour milk as soon as the name Tyelkormo had left his fathers mouth. He was still grieving and full of hatred.
It was Findaráto who made them agree in the end as he promised to go along with Nolofinwe as a representative of the House Arafinwe. If he would have been able to have things his way Nolofinwe would have told this one of his nephews to remain behind but alas Findaráto could be just as stubborn as any of their family when he wanted to. Besides he also had inherited his mothers ability to become menacingly scary when he really wanted to bring a point across in an argument. Nolofinwe did not want this to happen.
‘I did know that grandfather was reluctant to use the ships,’ Findaráto remarked once Tyelkormo was done telling him what he had told Nolofinwe before. ‘They were treated like holy artifacts by many of the older generation, so it would make sense to have them on display and not use them. They fell apart, yes? I guess the wood here on these shores is not made to last forever like it did at home…’
Nolofinwe remained silent. He was vibrating with tension. The anger at his brother, though somewhat mitigated by Tyelkormo's words, was still boiling under his skin and he had to prepare himself not to explode the moment he saw him. He could just be as fiery as his brother if the occasion arose. Many would have doubted this because he put a lot of effort in his calm and put-together appearance. It was a trait both of them had inherited from their father although Finwe had been very good at turning his temperament into passion.
Nolofinwe bit his lower lip. No, it was still too early to think about father.
Carnistir was the one waiting for them once they reached the outskirts of the Feanorian camp. Nolofinwe noticed almost immediately that many of the buildings were in fact made from wood or stone. There were only a few tents left standing. The pathway they set foot onto was also made with stone. His brother’s people had not been idle in the last years.
‘You’re late,’ Carnistir greeted Tyelkomo unimpressed and with his arms folded in front of his chest.
His trademark frown was not missing either, yet there was something off about him but it took Nolofinwe a few seconds to realise that Carnistir had cut off a large chunk of his hair. Automatically he looked over to Tyelkormo and noticed the same thing. Both men's hair barely reached their shoulders now. He wondered what had caused this drastic decision, for it was very un-Noldorin to cut off one's own hair unless it got burned or otherwise stained in an accident. Neither Tyelkomo nor Carnistir looked like they had been in an accident recently but Nolofinwe did not know what had happened in the past years.
‘I would have been back earlier if Irisse hadn’t found me and decided to drag me all the way back to her father, so that I could have the conversation with him all of you are refusing to have,’ Tyelkomo replied.
Carnistir only sighed.
‘Discuss this with Káno if you wish to complain.’
This made Tyelkormo go silent within a split second. Findaráto and Nolofinwe exchanged confused glances. Neither of them could make anything of the conversation that was happening in front of them.
‘I see, well if you don’t have anything more to say,’ Carnistir turned to them and bowed formally. ‘Uncle, cousin, please follow me. He would like to speak with you in person.’
He started moving almost immediately and at a fast pace at that. They followed him as best as they could with Tyelkormo and Huan behind them. The way they were led through the settlement - because upon further inspection and observation Nolofinwe opted that it was in fact more a settlement than a camp - made them visible and unable to ignore for many eyes. Their presence was not met with hostility or any form of annoyance but rather with curiosity and calm acceptance. Nolofinwe did not know whether he prefered their rather passive behaviour.
‘Where are you bringing us?” Findaráto asked and caught up to Carnistir.
‘The community hall… well it is supposed to be the community hall but these days it serves as an infirmary.’
‘Neither of us is wounded…’ Findaráto said and Nolofinwe could hear the irritation in his voice.
‘Well that’s good for you,’ Carnistir acknowledged. ‘But this is also where he wants to meet you. His study is in one of the spare rooms.’
They were led through a side entrance of one of the larger buildings near the town centre. It was nowhere near as impressive as the buildings Nolofinwe had seen and grown up in all his life but it was rather admirable what had been accomplished with the recousers given to them. He should have expected nothing else from his brother. The room they entered was some sort of dining space with a large wooden table right in the middle surrounded by what looked like ten chairs. One for each member of the house Feanor, including Curufinwes wife and child.
‘Where is he?’, Carnister asked one of the guards hiding in the shadows next to the door. The man made a step forwards into the light and Nolofinwe recognised him as Makalaures confidant Erestor.
‘His study,’ the man replied in his usual stoic manner. ‘A report came in this morning regarding enemy movements in the north-west. He wanted to look into what he can do to keep the residents safe.’
The residents, Nolofinwe realised, were his people. They were the only ones living in the north-west - as far as he was aware. If there was enemy movement he should probably also keep his people prepared no matter what his brother planned to do to keep them safe. It seemed like a miracle to him that Feanáro was even considering this given that he had wanted Nolofinwe and his people to turn back and had ignored them for the better part of the past week.
Carbistir just nodded.
'I see,' he noted the news and turned to the others, 'Come. And Tyelko if you want to tag along, you'll have to leave the fleabag here.'
'You know Huan doesn't like it when you call him that, Moryo.'
'He's just a dog. He doesn't care about what I call him. He cares about what I feed him.'
'Say that when he starts chewing on your shoes again.'
Nonetheless he told Huan to go and lay down on a large rug on the north side of the hall where a small fire burned in a chimney, while Carnistir led them through a door on the opposite side of the hall.
The study they entered then was… a mess if Nolofinwe was completely honest. It was a battlefield of papers, documents, books and various other objects buried underneath them. There was not one empty chair, not one empty spot of floor aside from a small area by the door. The dark wooden desk in the centre of the room was no exception to this. Nolofinw had seen massive amounts of paperwork in his fathers study all the time but Finwe despite his faults had been a very tidy person and had kept them all neatly organised. Feanáro on the other hand had never seemed like someone who would keep things tidy - not the Nolofinwe would know this, he had not been allowed to set his foot into his older brother's study ever in his life.
But this was not Feanáro’s study. On the floor in front of them, bent over an especially important looking paper sat not Nolofinwe’s brother but his second eldest nephew instead. Makalure was dressed in heavy looking robes of red and gold but they fitted him ill for they seemed like they had originally belonged to his father and Feanáro was not only taller than Makalaure but also broader. Loosley they hang from his shoulders and Nolofinwe could not get out of his way to notice that his nephew was thin and boney underneath.
‘You own a table, Káno,’ Tyelkomo commented on his older brother’s app and waved his hand in the general direction of said object. Makalure looked up then with an unimpressed expression on his face.
‘Well in theory you are correct but as you may be able to see, it is not in a state where I could use it.’
‘You could if you would keep things tidy and organised,’ Carnistir then said and started picking up some of the papers close to them. ‘Didn’t the Ambarussar volunteer to craft you some shelves from the wood that was left from building the watchtower in the south?’
Makalaure nodded.
‘Yes they did such a splendid job that I thought it a shame to waste such craftsmanship on me. I ordered Narendil to make sure that they’re brought to the infirmary so that the healers would have a safe place to store their medicine. I think Curvo got one as well for his tools. You know that he leaves them lying around everywhere otherwise,’ Makalure said and then he turned towards Nolofinwe and Findaráto who had listened to their exchange in silence. ‘Uncle, Findaráto, if you’d like to sit down I can only offer you the chairs by the window. You might want to remove the papers from them though…’
They did no such thing.
Makalaure looked back and forth between them and his brothers for a moment. Carnistir had proceeded to pick up some more papers from the floor, quietly fussing over how such important documents were left to fly around. Tyelkormo had stepped up to one of the windows and pulled open the curtains, allowing natural light to reach the small room.
When they had all not spoken for a while and the silence was beginning to get a little uncomfortable, Findaráto spoke for the first time:
‘Káno... where is...?’
‘Father?’ Makalaure interrupted him instantly, ‘you were expecting him here, weren't you?’
‘To be honest, yes…’, Nolofinwe pressed out. Carnistir and Tyelkormo paused in their work, exchanging meaningful glances. Makalaure sighed.
‘Well..’ he said, looking him in the eye, ‘then I'm sorry to disappoint you. Father is not available at the moment.’
‘Is he absent?’ asked Nolofinwe with a little more emphasis. Didn't they say they were going to take them to the king? Was he being made a fool of?
‘You could say that, yes.’
‘And Maitimo?’
This time Makalure remained silent for a long while. He had closed his eyes and Nolofinwe could see how the hand holding onto the papers was slightly shaking. When Findaráto looked questioningly at Carnistir and Tyelkormo both of them avoided his gaze. In the end Makalure slowly came to his feet. He handed his papers to Carnistir and then proceeded to fix his clothing so that it looked less ill-fit but still a little big on him.
As he then stood face to face with his uncle Nolofinwe could not help but notice that Makalaure was not only thinner than before but he looked tired, too tired. Whatever had happened had drained Makalaure to a point where it seemed like a miracle that he was still able to stand upright.
'Maitimo is also not available at the moment…’
‘Is he dead?’ Nolofinwe came straight to the point.
Makalaure swallowed but then he shook his head avoiding his uncle's eyes.
‘We don’t know. It… it was shortly after our arrival that we received a message from the enemy which said that he would be open to negotiate. I do not know the details, Maitimo kept them for himself but he rode out to meet with an envoy… and did not return. It was many days later that a messenger came telling us that everyone is dead and he brought a bloodied strand of Maitomos hair as evidence. I would have gone after him but he made me swear to remain behind and take care of our people.’
‘So you do not believe him dead?’
‘I would have felt it, uncle,’ Makalure answered. ‘Just like with grandfather… I didn’t feel anything like this this time around. It must mean that he still lives.’
And I am unable to help him.
He did not say this out loud but Nolofinwe could see it in his eyes. The oath Makalaure had to swear seemed to only increase the guilt he must have been feeling.
‘Káno… perhaps you should,’ Carnistir said as he balanced another stack of papers on the desk.
‘No self-pity I know,’ Makalaure answered but it did not seem like this was what Carnistr had wanted to say. Yet he straightened his back and put on a brave face. He even smiled a bit at his uncle and Findaráto, ‘If there is anything you need please tell me, I will make sure that we will spare what we can and have it delivered to your side of the lake. In the same manner I wish to apologise for not reaching out earlier. The last few days were rather troublesome…’
‘I would have to look at Turukáno's lists of supplies…’ Findaráto said and looked past Tylekormo out of the window.
‘Medicines,’ Nolofinwe said, thinking of Lalwende, who desperately needed something for her leg if she didn't want to lose it, ‘and bandages.’
Makalaure looked at Carnistir.
‘Come, cousin,’ he said to Findaráto without being prompted any further, ‘I am in charge of our supplies. We will see how best to manage the matter. Tyelko can help too. He knows about the best hunting grounds in the area and will surely be able to give you some advice.’
Makalaure watched them silently as they departed from the room and when the door closed behind Tyelkormo he turned to Nolofinwe.
'Do not apologise for your father's deeds,' Nolofinwe said before his nephew even had the opportunity to open his mouth. 'I have heard why you didn't send back the ships. I wish to hear what your father has to say in his defense and whether he feels sorry for it or not.'
'Then you will probably never get an answer,' Makalaure said gravely. He pressed his lips into a thin line and turned to the second door in this room, left to where he was standing 'Come, uncle I will show you something. Maybe then you will hear my apology.'
Nolofinw was not sure what he should expect when he followed his nephew through the door and into a barely lit hallway. The voices of Carnisti, Tyelkormo and Findaráto could be heard from down the hall, where somebody had left a door slightly ajar. Makalaure did not lead him in that direction but the opposite one and up to the next floor. Like the one downstairs this one was only sparsely lit but at least there was a window on the far end of the hallway from where silver light shone onto dark wooden planks. They made creaking noises even under the light elven footsteps. Nolofinwe flinched the first time he heard that noise.
Makalaure walked down the corridor at a quick pace, unmoved by the creaking wooden floorboards. He seemed determined to waste no time to get to their destination. Nolofinwe followed him in a similar manner once he had gotten used to the unsettling noise from below his feet.
Once they reached the window Makalaure halted and looked outside. Nolofinwe glanced over his shoulder and saw Curufinwe training with his son in the courtyard. Tyelperinquar had grown quite a bit since Nolofinwe had last seen him but even though he and Itarille were around the same age the boy looked less mature than Nolofinwe’s granddaughter. It seemed as if his childhood innocence had somehow been preserved in these wild lands.
It made jealousy boil inside him but he was quick to suppress it. Tyelperinquar had no fault in what had happened. It was a good thing that at least one child of their family was still child enough to smile and fool around. Maybe one day Itarille would find the strength and happiness to smile once more.
‘You did not bring me here only to watch your nephew train,’ it was not a question or at least it did not sound like one as the words left Nolofinwe’s mouth. He was not quite sure himself whether he had wanted the words to sound as impatient and stern as they did but they seemed to bring Makalaure out of some kind of trance he had drifted into.
‘No… of course not, uncle,’ he answered and stepped past Nolofinwe in front of the last door in this hallway.
He turned the door knob around and pushed the door open. Nolofinwe followed him inside what seemed like a private sleeping chamber. It was better lit than any other room he had seen so far in this house including Makalaure’s study, which was mostly because the curtains had been drawn back and the windows opened to let fresh air inside. Aside from a wardrobe on the left side of the door the room contained a cupboard underneath the windows, an unused desk to Nolofinwe’s right and a bed, half hidden behind a set of curtains, which Makalaure was pulling back.
Nolofinwe did not need to ask why his nephew had brought him here. He could not make out the patients face but the way Makalure sat down on their bedside and took one of the heavily bandaged hands into his with utmost care and started to stroke it gently with index and middle finger was enough to tell Nolofinwe that this was not just somebody.
‘I’m here…’ Makalaure said quietly, almost in a whisper. ‘Please forgive that I could not make it this morning. I heard that Ambarussar came to spend time with you.’
Nolofinwe carefully stepped closer to the bed until he was half behind Makalaure and could look over his nephew’s shoulder at the patient. It took him longer than it should have to realise whom he was looking at. The man's entire body, save for a few bits here and there, seemed to be wrapped in bandages and what little skin was left visible was burned and bruised and scarred. Half his face was hidden underneath some kind of paste and his eyes closed.
‘Feanáro…’ Nolofinwe whispered in shock once his voice had returned to him. Makalaure turned his head with a sad smile.
‘Father is unavailable at the moment, uncle,’ his nephew told him quietly. ‘It’s not as bad as it was at the beginning and he is slowly, ever so slowly getting better but it will take some time until he will open his eyes again. But even if he does there is no guarantee he will ever fully recover.’
Feanáro’s hand twitched in Makalaure’s hold. Makalaure turned to his father again and lowered his head ever so slightly.
‘It was only a few days ago, when you and your people arrived that he moved… it was just a twitch of his fingers no stronger than now but he moved. There… There was finally some sign of progress.’
‘How? When? Did the enemy?’
Makalaure gave him no answer but continued to absently stroke Feanáro’s hand. Nolofinwe did not press him. It seemed like this was not an easy talk to have and given the circumstances Nolofinwe was willing to accept this.
‘It was the enemy…’ Makalaure said after a while, his voice void of any emotion. ‘They had planned an ambush and even though we were able to fight them back there were many losses and many more who were gravely injured. Father had been at the front fighting against so many of them at the same time. He slew a large number of the Valaraukar - as Maitimo called them - but their commander was too strong for him. He landed a fatal blow mere minutes before we chased them off for good. At first it seemed like that monster had killed father but he kept fighting and breathing long enough for us to bring him to safety. He has been in this state ever since.’
Nolofinwe had to look away at that. He had no words, he who always knew what to say, who was known for his way with words, had none. All the anger, all the hatred that had been driving him the entire time was gone. The words he had prepared years ago, that he had memorized like a mantra, felt hollow now that there was essentially no one to address them at. He could tell them Feanáro but what use would they have? His brother could not hear him. He could not answer him or give him one of the awfully arrogant smiles.
As a child Nolofinwe had done everything to earn one of these. As a young adult he had learned to despise them. But now? Now, he would be lucky to receive a slight twitch of Feanaŕos hand. That was much more cruel than anything his brother could have said to him. It didn't compare to what his brother had done, of course, but it was pretty close.
'Do… Do you want me to pity him?'
Makalaure shock his head
'Believe me uncle I do not. He wouldn't want your pity and you know that. I wanted you to understand that the only apology you will probably ever get is my own. Will you accept it?'
'Your father wouldn't have wanted you to apologise,' Nolofinwe replied. Makalure made a low chuckling noise.
'But I want to apologise. It will not bring back the dead, it will not heal the wounded, it will not rewind the years you and your people spend on the grinding ice and it will not undo what has been done but maybe an apology can help to bring our people back together ever so slightly. We're all strangers in a strange land and as such we have no choice but to stick together. You don't have to accept me as prince regent and I will not demand to lead your people, all I want is a basis on which we can work on the way forward.'
'Very well,' Nolofinwe replied. 'I shall accept your apology… for now.'
'This is more than I would have asked for, uncle.'
They both remained at Feanáro's bedside for a while longer in silence, each lost in their own thoughts. Nolofinwe avoided looking at his brother or his nephew and held his gaze fixed on the window.
A basis to work on the way forward. Makalaure had not specified what this way would look like and Nolofinwe was not sure himself. His people were bitter. They felt betrayed and abandoned and he could not blame them. He felt very much the same even after learning this truth.
All he could hope for was that his nephew's words had not been all empty. Makalaure was an excellent talker and sometimes it was hard to differentiate between honest words and acting. He did not believe that his nephew had acted but he knew that he should remain observant.
'Don't tell anyone of what I have shown you today, uncle,' Makalure asked him when they finally left the room.
'For what reason?'
'Father is in a bad state and I feel it would only worsen if he was confronted with the anger of all your people. I will bear this burden until the day of his awakening. Besides… I have reason to believe that the enemy thinks him dead and I would like for it to remain that way for as long as possible.'
'I see," Nolofinwe remarked. 'I will do as you ask but only if you inform me immediately should he wake.'
Makalure nodded seriously.
When Nolofinwe returned to his camp late in the evening to eat and maybe get some rest, still very much thinking about his brother's fate and his nephew's wish for cooperation, he was greeted with even more unsettling news.
Apparently Findekáno had vanished without a trace and only his harp in tow after being told about Maitimo's fate from Finderáto. All he had left them was a note telling them not to worry and that he would be back soon.
Nolofinwe thought of what had happened to Arakáno and prayed that his eldest son would return safely to him.
