My mum: You eat too much potatoes and eggs prepared in different ways. I know that depending on the way you prepare your food you actually eat [number] different dishes but I would like you to try something new from time to time

Me on my way to the fridge a hour later: Let’s see what I have—eggs, different kinds of cheese, jam, sausages…Hmm, scrambled eggs with some cheese, sausage and black pepper sound nice. But I had the same last week and mom said to try something new. Hmm, I will add some blueberry jam—and some pickles.

Since in #7 Bernard Dowd is seen to want to be a Chef and I've had culinary arts schooling this is my list of oddly specific things pertaining to that. Use it as you want (just from my experience)

Having a callous on the base of your pointer fringer of your dominate hand from using a chef knife

Funky patterned chef pants

DISHES NEVER END

when you are moving with a hot pan or heavy items ect you tell everyone like HOT PAN! BEHIND. GOING AROUND THE CORNER. BEHIND!

small batches are cute but in a restaurant/bakery/etc you're doing big batches in industrial ovens and mixers. A batch of bread dough we made had 12lbs of flour and like a half gallon of water.

Culinary arts isn't just making food it's doing math, converting recipes, going over OSHA rules and restaurant regulations

After awhile you have enough knowledge to the point where you see a recipe on the internet and go "hey... I can make that. Like really easily" like you can just make curry or scallion pancakes or fancy food

You will notice the shitty knife cuts in like pre cut packages of fruit and veg at the store

You're not allowed to have nail polish or false nails (unless you want to wear gloves all the time)

You start to realise how easy it's is to do somethings for yourself. Like you can just buy a chicken and break it down yourself or make stock at home

Their will be at least one class day where you cut onions all day and leave in tears because everyone is literally cutting onions

Sometimes stuff gets pushed back in the fridge or it's after break and the food has grew a putrid smelling mold. Cleaning it is part of culinary, it's...Fun

Everyday you wear chef pants, a chef coat, a closed toe non slip shoe and a chef hat.

Your hands will get chapped af because you're washing them all the time, lotion is your friend

You do refer to your head chef as 'Chef' or 'Chef ____' (or at least we did)

You will fuck up except it and move past it. (I once put too many chips in the fryer, it over flowed and we had to clean it up)

Kitchens get hot and you're wearing pants and a coat that are designed to protect you from like boiling water being pored on them, so drink water.

You will get cut/burned/stabbed/squished fingers it's part of the job just don't get bodily fluids on the food

You're standing like the whole time no matter what

You know that gallon conversation thing you learned in elementary? You will see that in your sleep. Gallon to quart to pint to cup. Also 8oz to a cup. 3t to a T. 16oz to a Pound ect it's ingrained into my head now

With a bit of knowledge you now know things and you can use it. Like add Xanthan Gum to a blended drink to emulsify it and it's just like Starbucks.

On the down side people want you to make things

You start wanting things for your kitchen like a KitchenAid or a portion scoop or dehydrator and having that feeds back into "I can make anything"

Figuring out exact prices for things is crucial and a pain. Like you have to take the price of baking soda and figure out how much a 1/4t costs. It's not horrible ig but when you're doing it for a whole recipe or menu it gets repetitive.

i totally agree with the vast majority of what you posted about shayne and courtney and fans entitlement to their private lives. i dislike that the fandom so heavily sees things through a 'shipping' lens - angela and damien look at each other for more than three seconds, so here's fourteen fics about them fucking. like it's so deranged and so so strange and fundamentally unfair for everyone involved.

it is the same when people want them all to be best friends irl so bad it causes them genuine distress when they say 'we're just co-workers who have a good time'. i understand parasocial relationships and am aware that some are closer than others (some are married i've heard lol) but if it makes you want to keel over and die to hear arasha call courtney her co-worker...genuinely seek help, that's not good for you.

as someone who came back in the buy-back era and who was a fan at the height of the defy shourtney shipping era, i think it's okay to be like 'aww in videos i always thought they had chemistry!' but the stalking, obsessive stuff is unhealthy at best and wrong at worst.

i worry now about the hyper-focus that will be put on shayne and courtney in videos, both together and apart. i think it's super brave of them to go public (also something they may have felt they had to do, given public records) and i hope that people will be able to dial in to respect them and their relationship!!

Bro I can’t even IMAGINE what the “fans” are going to act now. I mean, I can, and it doesn’t look good.

Im calling it now, if the “fans” will keep an even closer look on Courtney’s body now. They will try to prove a pregnancy and I think that will be worse than what it has already been. If there’s an actual pregnancy that somehow gets announced this year, how much you wanna bet that they will use the time Amanda mentioned a smosh baby to prove they were right and knew all along?

If this weren’t Shayne and Courtney, who had to endure stalkers, harassment, unwanted sexual advances from fans, fanfics written about them, people speculate their relationship by every single interaction they had at work, I would have just gone “omg, so cool! Good for them”, but this poor couple had to hide their relationship, hide an engagement! Courtney wasn’t able to wear a goddamn engagement ring, all to protect their privacy.

Im happy for them but again, heartbroken by the fandom once again.

Anyway, all these posts, fights and interactions made me resent the channel I’ve watched for more than a decade so quickly it was actually shocking. Which fucking sucks cause smosh has never been about romantic relationships and this news shouldn’t have affected the fandom for better or for worse.

Im gonna take a step back from the company, at least for now. I’ve unsubscribed to all the channels and unfollowed everyone. I hope I can get back to watching them but for now I legit feel icky, as stupid as it sounds.

I also learned my lesson for good, never ever interact with the rest of the smosh fans, it’s almost never worth it.

There was this arc in House MD where House had been freshly released from rehab and wasn’t on Vicodin anymore, so to keep his mind busy he decided to put all of his brainpower and hyper focus into learning how to cook. House being House he learned how to make/perfect the most incredible food practically overnight (or idk, in the space of 2 episodes iirc). And then gets bored with it.

Anyway, where am I going with this? Well, what is the 14th doctor going to do with all his time? That.

I mean ok maybe this is more of a eleveny or thirteeny trait, but that. Dialled up to 14. “Perfected” through whatever time lord-alien-future science the Doctor knows.

Nine-dimensional Yorkshire Puddings. Willy Wonka food made real. The most intricate “chocolate” sculpture of the TARDIS (but one teaspoon of it will keep you full and nourished for a full year. Literally, you cannot eat food for a year after eating that but you somehow stay alive). Does anything taste good? Who can say! What even is taste? What even is good? One day Donna eats the best serving of fish and chips she’s ever eaten and it turns out the Doctor created it out of mud he dredged out of the Thames. He catches a glimpse of one episode of Great British Menu where some judge says that “a good meal must tell a story”and he creates a 19-course meal explaining his history with the Master, except it uses flavours humans don't have taste receptors for so at the end of it you're left with only the faint aftertaste of burnt hair and gunpowder. Next, a deconstructed soufflé for two that makes you physically experience every emotion at once after blasting a chocolate raven at the chest of whoever you're sharing it with. Must a meal be solely good? Can it not be An Experience? A little bit psychologically devastating?

This takes place in a time span of 9 days. Then Rose Noble suggests he tries putting his feelings into something slightly less high energy, like crochet. The Temple-Nobles were not ready for what The Doctor learned to do with crochet

HEY 😭😭😭 It was the easiest thing to major in since my undiagnosed depression made sure I had no energy to get good at something before 18 😭 All I gotta do is walk in and go “business!” And the class carries me out on their shoulders and cheers my name

But there’s a lot of gay people majoring in business,,, somewhere,,, not where I’m at tho, so far I’m the only one I know that exists
