I saw a post talking about Miguel’s sexuality and that he was aro ace or something like that, and the user was telling writers to stop writing Miguel sexually. I’m not sure if they were joking or being serious, but either way I had something to say. And I mean this with respect, no hate to that person at all. They did nothing wrong.
Character’s sexualities are constantly being played around with by writers, fans, and artists. I am a male reader writer, so I write a lot of characters being partly homosexual. I know these characters aren’t canonically homosexual, but if I write for the character, I have to make them that way to fit what I’m going for.
Fan fiction is purely fake, it has no effect on the actual character, it’s simply used for the enjoyment of fans who want to be with a character. And some people can’t because a character is heterosexual, so we alter the sexuality for the character to be more accessible.
We also make characters AFAB/AMAB for our own enjoyment. In smut fics, sometimes, a writer will alter a characters anatomy just to spice things up.
So writing Miguel (or any other character) in a sexual way despite that their sexuality isn’t that way, doesn’t matter. Because we do it all the time. He’s not real. If he was real, then I’d get it. Say an actor, say Oscar Isaac to be specific, said “Please, don’t sexualize me, I’m ace.” Then I’d understand. But since he’s a fictional character, and fans constantly play around with characters sexuality and anatomy, it’s just not that big of a deal.
Now, if a character was a minor, I’d completely agree as well. Writing smut for a minor is disgusting in my opinion. But once again, Miguel O’Hara isn’t typically written as a minor.
Once again, this is just meant to be educational, and to inform people that writing for a of age character in a sexual light isn’t bad even if they’re a different sexuality. Fan fiction is meant to be fake and to alter characters to reach a certain expectation.
(Also, that user got a lot of hate in the comments for being informative, and I think that was very wrong. The user didn’t deserve that for that simple post, and I’m not trying to hate on them, I’m simply trying to show people that it’s not as bad as you might think. The user is welcome to not read those smut fics and to not write them, that is okay. So do not hate on someone just because they think of something differently about a character.)

Thinking about how Victor Hugo wrote one of the most famous portrayals of prostitution that is sympathetic to the prostituted woman (Fantine from Les Miserables) and shows how she is forced by poverty to sell her body, how it clearly is a traumatic experience, and how much disrespect the pimps have for her in reality... And yet he continued constantly visiting brothels and using the women's bodies - so much so that a very famous rumor was created that all the brothels in Paris closed down to mourn him after his death... Kill all men?

i love how no one, literally no one from the main/secondary cast is a straight white male in DBD.
Let's break it down:
Edwin: Straight White Male
Charles: Straight(?) White Male
Crystal: Straight(?) White Male
Niko: Straight(?) White Male
Esther: Straight(?) White Male
Monty: Straight White Male(?)
Jenny: Straight White Male
Cat King: Straight White Male(?)
Tragic Mick: Straight(?) White Male(?)
Night Nurse: Straight(?) White Male
AND HALF OF THE MEN HERE ARE GENDER-AMBIGUOUS BECAUSE WTF WE GOT A CROW, A WALRUS AND A CAT OVER HERE. MEN???
They're all just a textbook about diversity and this is reason number #984342423429 why this show should be watched and loved and not cancelled. GO GO GO

Whenever people talk about lack of media literacy they always bring up people who think a character doing bad things=the author endorsing said bad things which are very annoying but I feel like we're ignoring the opposite, equally annoying side of the discourse who think if you criticize the inclusion/depiction of dark/sensitive topics in any way it’s bc you’re a dumb baby who can’t separate fiction from reality. and it's like no I know I’m not supposed to clap and cheer at violence against women I’m criticizing how much of it there is. Idiot

My friend @the-velvet-worm made such a good point about Chaggie earlier that I feel like it needs to be shared. Her quote: "It's not lost on me that they're not hypersexual like a lot of more popular f/f ships, and no, there's nothing wrong with being into something because there's palpable sexual tension, but I feel like a lot of it is fetishizers being unable to fetishize it?"
EXACTLY.
Chaggie is the least fetishized wlw ship I've seen on any show. It feels like it's constructed from the female gaze because it is, for once. The writing even makes fun of and paints Adam in the wrong for being crass about their relationship and using it as fodder for his own nasty fantasies.
And it's not like Chaggie are chaste. They sleep in the same bed, it's implied that they have sex, and they are very physically affectionate with each other, but because Hazbin isn't showing full-on porn of them, the fandom says they have 'no chemistry.'
I also think there's this cognitive dissonance in the fandom where Hazbin isn't afraid to push the envelope in a lot of ways, and kinks and sex and all types of debauchery are mentioned and depicted all of the time, so they are expecting that out of Chaggie as well. BUT! part of the point is that this relationship is subversive for Hell and for the show in general, which is what makes it so good in my opinion.
It's crazy that people would think that Hazbin writers/animators are "too scared" to do anything controversial with Vaggie and Charlie's relationship when we've seen first-hand that practically nothing is off the table when it comes to this show. That just seems like a bad faith reading of the way Hazbin is portraying its bigger themes of forgiveness/redemption and where the characters have come from with Chaggie. Just because you don’t personally enjoy their dynamic doesn't mean that it's 'bad' or 'poorly written'.

you know what hill i'll die on? terzo is not the sluttiest emeritus
I mean sure, he's the most dramatic and the most outspoken about sex, and he gave us Mummy Dust which is its own discussion-- but I sincerely don't see him, in his private life, being so promiscuous. Like out of all of them, I'm the most certain Terzo would be either monogamous or have a few regular partners at most, but I don't think he'd be big on casual flings. Frankly I don't even see him having sex that much at this point, he seems more attached to it as a concept than an actual activity he regularly engages in.
You know who's the inverse of that, though? The one Tobias himself calls a pervert? Secondo. There's your whore. I know he looks big and mean and authoritary but let's be honest, half of Infestissumam is about ritual sex and he's out in Vegas on the regular with more women than he can reliably satisfy. He says it himself that he became Papa because "he likes a sexy beat". THERE'S THE EMERITUS WHORE, AND I'M CERTAIN OF IT

People are saying it’s cringey that Nick kept saying “I’m bi, actually” and that proves they don’t actually understand anything. Every time he said it out loud, it was in response to someone saying he was gay. And he’s not gay, he’s bi, actually. The one time he says it preemptively (the IG caption), there’s still a ton of comments calling him gay. So yeah, he did have to say it every time because people assuming he’s gay is just as invalidating at people assuming he’s straight.
