You're standing in front of Natasha's room, knocking, and when the door opened, you smiled at her, but she just got out of the way so you could come in.
“Sorry, I lost track of time playing with them, but don't worry, they are clean and ready to pick up.” Natasha has had the pups for hours, and she was supposed to bring them back an hour ago for bedtime, but she was just so lost on them that she lost track of time.
“It's ok, actually, uhm...” You shyly shift on your spot, getting nervous about what you're going to ask because, since the talk three days ago, she has tried to avoid the subject and you as much as possible.
“Can we sleep here? ”The question makes her tense and look up at you, shocked and analyzing you, so you quickly look down, knowing asking something like this to the alpha after rejection might not go well.
“I can take the corner, or we if you don't want to sleep next to them,” you fidget the hem of your shirt, getting nervous and expecting her to reject the offer, because for the past 3 weeks all you wanted was to talk to her or be near her, and for James, he put distance between you two because, first, he knows the alpha you want is talk to her or be near her, and for James, he put distance between you two because first, he knows the alpha you want is Natasha, and Natasha wants you, so he distance himself to not make things more complicated than they are, and second, he already found her omega.
“What? ”You grip the hem of your shirt, accepting her response as a rejection, so you sigh and look up at her with a small smile.
“Nothing; can I have them now? .... It's already past their bedtime.” You didn't wait for her answer; you quickly took two to put them in your room and came back to another one.
You're so embarrassed that you almost run just so you could leave right away from her gaze, and when you're in your safe place, your room with your pups, you quickly shut the door, sigh heavily, and start to get ready for the night.
But 5 minutes after you lay down with your pups, there's three soft knocks on your door, making you frown. You're not expecting anyone at this time, not unless Wanda or Yelena need something.
But before you could stand up or shout to the other person on the other side to come in, the door squeaked, making you nervous and scared until it was slightly open. Then Natasha's face was shown, making you sigh in relief.
“Hey, sorry for bothering you at this time, but...” Natasha clears her throat while you sit up on the bed and look at her.
“Can I sleep here instead? "I could take the floor or the couch." You couldn't believe what you were hearing. Natasha has come to you for the first time in 3 days and is asking something so cutely that makes you smile a little, but Natasha feels the opposite; she feels nervous and scared, not sure if this is right that it makes her feel small.
“Or not, it's ok, I’m just going to go back to my room.” Natasha lowered her head, ready to close your door, but you quickly took the comforter off of you.
“No, Nat, wait.” You took her arm and lightly tugged her, so she looked back and looked at your face with a small smile.
“You can sleep here.” You open the door widely and move to the side for her to come in. She smiles at you and holds her pillow tightly, then comes in.
“Thanks, I’ll just take the floor.” You shake your head at her and then take her hand.
“No, you can sleep with us in the bed; there's plenty of room anyway,” you softly said, and when you realize that you're holding her hand, you quickly look away from her but never take your hands off of her.
“It's ok, I’m just going to take the floor, I insist.” You nodded at her and retrieved your hand. Honestly, it's kind of hurtful that she refused to sleep with you and the pups, but you understand her and the situation. I mean, you two weren't mates anymore.
"Ok,” you go. Take your thickest blanket for her to lay down on and use as a mattress, then a blanket and another pillow for her to use, to at least make her feel comfortable on the cold, hard floor of your room.
You plan to lay it beside you, but when you see her walk to the end of the bed, you quickly go lay it where she is.
“Tell me if you need another thick blanket to lay down or if it's uncomfortable.” You then put the pillow down and stand at the bed, giving her space to get comfortable.
“Thanks, have a good night.” You just give her a small smile and go back to lay down beside your pups.
But the thing is, even if you try hard to sleep, you just can't. The urge to lay beside her makes it so hard to control yourself to just lay beside her and her scents that's lingering in the air of your room. It took every single fiber of your being to not just get up and be with her.
So when the clock hits 2 a.m. You sit up and set your bed to have a barrier around the edges so the pups won't fall down, then you go stand before Natasha with your pillow. You're contemplating whether this is a good decision or not.
“Just do it,” you sigh and slowly crowl next to her, then put your pillow beside hers and slowly lift her right arm since she's lying on her left, then slowly and carefully scoot in the space in front of her, your back facing her front, then gently lay her arm around your waist.
But you didn't expect her to shift, then tighten her hold on you, then pull you closer, cuddling with you while she nuzzles her face in the back of your head, smelling your hair and scent. Your heart flutters and beats faster, happy that she still finds your scent pleasant and is still looking for it, but that’s quickly taken away from you when Natasha sits up and scoots away from you.
“You shouldn’t be here sleeping; you should be in your bed.” You sit up and turn around her, disappointed and hurt while clenching your hands on the comforter in your lap.
“I know, I just want to sleep with you,” you mumble, but she could still hear it. You then bite your lower lips, getting nervous and shy around her.
“Just go back to bed and sleep, please.” You look down, and Natasha is getting guilty by the second, but she doesn’t want you to get a cough or get your back hurt.
“You really don’t want me to at least sleep next to you, do you? ”You chew your bottom lips and play with the comforter while nervously waiting for her response, but that didn’t come; the room became silent once again, and the agonizing silence is enough for you to know what her possible answer is.
But when Natasha was going to answer you, one of the pups started to cry, so you quickly took your pillow, left the comfort of Natasha’s makeshift bed on the floor, and went to tend to the needs of your pups.
“You should go back to sleep; I’ll deal with them,” you said to her. You took him in your arms and lulled him to sleep. You're thankful that he cried because you didn’t know how to get out of that situation, but Natasha didn't. She wants to cradle you in her arms and tell you that she craves your cuddles and touch, but when she notices the distance in your voice and presence, her shoulders slump, and she just lays down to try to get at least a little bit of sleep.
Tumblr media
Natasha woke up earlier than you or the pups, and because she didn’t want to wake you up, she neatly folded the comforters and placed them on the couch with the pillow you gave her. She then quietly left the room, going to her room to do her morning routine before going down to take breakfast and go to the gym.
You, on the other hand, are already awake when she’s halfway through folding the comforter, but you pretend to be asleep to escape the embarrassment that’s lingering in yourself, maybe hoping that she at least gives you a forehead kiss or the pups, but that didn’t come, making you sad and disappointed first thing in the morning, so you just sadly smile at yourself while admiring the face of your daughter that’s starting to stir awake, so you scoop her in your arm with the biggest smile you could pull off.
“Hi! Good morning, my little princess. How was your sleep? Was it good? Hmm? ”She coos and giggles a little, pulling a genuine smile out of you and making you happy to see her out of a life-and-death situation, but soon the two boys start to wake up, so your morning turns pretty quickly from sad and disappointed to happy and grateful to wake up another day with your pups.

You texted Johnny a lot, naturally, as he was your best friend. Sometimes you’d sit on FaceTime while doing random activities, cleaning, cooking, watching tv, picking out clothes, cuddling with Simon, etc. You recently decided to set another one of your little longest phone call records, meaning you’d stay on the phone overnight and all throughout the day. You were about 20 hours in, just sitting on your bed, scrolling on your phone as you mumbled to yourself and commented on what Johnny was doing.
“Are you.. folding laundry? Never seen that one before. Do another trick,” You giggle, seeing him throw a shirt at the camera and shaking his head. “Your mohawk needs a trim.”
“Oh shut up, lass,” He sighs, chuckling, finishing his laundry and grabbing his phone as he walks up the stairs and plops down on his bed. You watch him toss his phone down and grab his tv remote, scrolling around whatever streaming service. You giggled as you watched him choose Mean Girls.
“In girl world, Halloween is the one night a year where a girl can dress like a total slut and no one can say anything about it. The hardcore girls just wear lingerie and some form of animal ears. Of course, no one told me about the slut rule,” You recite, and he shushes you with a laugh. “Whatever, I see how it is,” You sigh dramatically, flopping down on your bed with your forearm on your forehead as you pretend to be sad.
“On the phone with Johnny?” A gruff voice asks from the door way of your bedroom, and you nod.
“Say hi to Simon,” You turn to your phone, where you watch the scot turn to the screen and wave whilst trying to cover his screen. “He’s watching Mean Girls,” You giggle.
“A fantastic choice.” Simon chuckles, climbing into bed beside you and combing his hands through your hair, one hand drifting down to your waist and sliding beneath your shirt as he begins to kiss you gently. You moan softly and he reaches over to click the mute button on your phone before continuing his ministrations. He gently unclips your bra and slides it off, hands cupping your breasts beneath your shirt as he toys with your nipples.
You let out a muted moan, and he chuckles.
“You’re muted, darling,” He coos, climbing on top of you and kissing your neck, sucking small hickeys into your soft skin. You whine softly, wrapping your arms around his neck as he slowly slides your shirt off, lips trailing down to your now perky nipples and giving both gentle kisses and sucks as his hands travel down to pull off your underwear.
“S-simon-“ You whimper, he doesn’t pause, just continues pulling your shorts and panties down.
“Wha’ is it?”
“On the phone?” You whisper, looking up at him with doe eyes.
“Thought you wanted to set one of your little records, love?”
“Yes but..” You stop as soon as he presses his thumb to your sweet clit, rubbing gently and causing you to moan louder than intended.
“Atta girl,” He chuckles, rubbing small circles on your clit, his other hand reaching up and gently placing his fingers in your mouth for you to suck on. You oblige, obviously, as it was something you loved doing, closing your eyes as you began to lose yourself in the pleasure. He slowly slips a finger into your drenched cunt, gently pushing in and out, listening to the pornographic squelching of your little hole. He curled his fingers at just the right spot, causing you to arch your back and whine around his fingers, begging and babbling for more.
“Such a naughty girl,” He tuts, pulling his fingers out of your mouth and pulling his cock out of the confines of his pants, which were feeling far too tight. He watched you stare with pure admiration at his thick cock, doe eyes studying each vein and staring eagerly at his leaking, flushed tip.
“S-simon please-“ You whine, gripping the sheets tightly. He clicks his tongue, pulling his fingers out of your pulsing pussy and licking them clean before stroking himself to full hardness. He bumped the tip on your swollen clit a couple of times, making you squirm and clench around nothing. You whine, babbling nonsense at him before he shushes you by pushing his cock into your fluttering cunt, taking you by surprise and making you arch your back further at the welcome, overwhelming sensation.
He slowly thrust himself in fully, seating himself deeply against your cervix. He groans as your muscles squeeze around him, trying to milk him before he’s even gotten the chance to move.
“Calm down, love, relax or I won’t be able to move,” He feels you try and relax, before he slowly begins moving in and out, setting a slow, gentle pace which drives you mad. You whine and beg until he’s practically pounding you in the mattress, your heels digging into his lower back as he fucks you deep and hard, pulling orgasm after orgasm out of you.
“Such a dirty little thing, moaning for me while on the phone with your best friend? How about we give Johnny a little show, eh?” He chuckles, grabbing your phone and flipping the camera to your face, giving Johnny a quick glimpse of your fucked out expression. He chuckles as he notices Johnny trying to slyly palm himself from the sight, such a pathetic boy. Not as pathetic as you, at least, whining and crying for Simon to cum deep inside you while calling your friend. Simon unmutes the phone, turning the camera to show your naked body, eyes rolled back, skin flushed and nipples pebbled. “Like what you see, Johnny?”
“Very much so. Such a pretty lass, ain’t she?” He replies, very obviously rubbing his dick beneath his pants, letting out soft grunts beneath his breath.
“Just wanted to remind you, she’s mine. Got that, Johnny?” He growls, watching himself pound into you from the phone camera. He mutes the phone again, turning the camera off and tossing it to the side before grabbing your hips and rutting into your g-spot like a dog in heat. He finishes inside you with a guttural groan, watching you squirt down his chest and fall down to the bed with an exasperated sigh, eyes closed and lips parted as you pant.
He stays inside you for a bit, his cock slowly softening, the insides of your thighs all sticky with your mixed releases. He pulls out and gets up, returning with a damp cloth to clean you both up. After, he returns the cloth to the bathroom and tucks you in, holding you to his side as you nuzzle into his chest, all happy tucker into his arm.
-
“Yeah, Simon’s going out to grab me some food. I told him to just order delivery but he’s very stubborn that he wants it fresh and doesn’t trust random people, so he’s going out to get it. He’s so weird, but god is he fuckin’ sexy,” You laugh with Johnny, acting as if the entire thing never happened, as if Johnny had never seen you getting your brains fucked out by your boyfriend, as if you didn’t hear him masturbating to the sight of you, as if he didn’t make a huge mess in his pants because of you.
“Oh- Simon’s back,” You giggle, tossing your phone and hopping up. He hears the muffled conversation between you and your boyfriend, before hearing you return to your room and eat.
He pretended not to hear the sounds of you two making out after eating, the wet noises of you and Simon’s tongue dancing together, the memory of Simon growling that you were his.
If he had to guess, he’d say Simon was doing this to prove his claim on you, to ensure Johnny knew where things stood and who you belonged to. And he understood alright.

Hi!! I loved your post about Leo's sons sneaking out lol! I'd love to see how the other brothers would react to their kids!!
Children Of Raphael (Fluff)
Bayverse!Raphael x reader
Tumblr media
A/N: My nap did wonders, and I managed to write this! Anyway, I’m glad you liked it❤️ This time it’s Raph’s turn! Joan, Minerva and Ragnar out trouble making behind you and Raph’s backs❤️
-------------
Warnings: Spelling, you and Raphael’s kids being sneaky and cute❤️
-------------
It had been Joan and Minerva’s idea, because of course it had. Who else would come with an idea that surely their mother and father wouldn’t like. And little unsure Ragnar did not like what he overheard his sisters talk about. They would go topside without their father and mother knowing, and see the city of New York for themselves, and maybe even get some pizza. Something you and Raph’s two oldest kids always had wanted to do. But not your youngest. He was so young and did not like it. The thought of his sisters leaving the lair without his parent’s knowledge, made him jump uneasily on the spot. To 6 year old Ragnar, everything outside the lair was big and dangerous, and therefore the world above was a scary place. But his sisters had made their minds up. They were leaving tonight when you and Raph had gone to bed, whether or not Ragnar was coming along.
So that night, after Raph had gone out on patrol and you had tucked Ragnar into bed and kissed him goodnight, the young boy did something he never had done before. He changed the time on his alarm clock, just like he had heard his sisters say that they would do. And just to be sure, he added an extra alarm, should he accidentally sleep over the first one.
A few hours later, Ragner woke up to the sound of his first alarm, quickly turning it off before you would be able to hear it. He quickly gets into his clothes, before hurrying out into the big open living area, where both Joan and Mini stood, waiting just to see if their little brother would come along.
“Great”, 13 year Joan said, uncrossing her arms and letting them rest on her hips. “Now that we’re all here, let’s go”.
Mini jumped with a smile at her sister’s words, skipping towards the exit. But Ragnar on the other hand, still wasn’t too sure about their plan.
“I still don’t know if it’s a good idea”, Ragnar said, playing with the hem of his oversized sweatshirt.
Joan sighed loudly and frustrated, exercising her oldest sibling's power to the fullest. “Did you just wake up only to tell us that?”
“No…”, the small boy muttered.
“Then shut it, and let’s go”, she said, turning towards the exit. But Ragnar did not shut it, like his sister had told him to.
“But what if mom and dad notice we’re gone?...”
“You see this?”, Joan said, turning towards her little brother in a sharp swing, one hand in the air, moving like a mouth, the other pointing to the moving hand. “This is your mouth, and it keeps jabbering. Now shut up and get moving, or keep it jabbering and stay here”.
Joan turned and started walking toward the exit once more. Ragnar placed his hands on his hips, crossed his eyes, and moved his lips in an animated way, mucking his big sister’s words. Mini saw this and giggled.
“You coming?”, Mini asked, reaching out a hand. Ragnar nodded at her, still somewhat unsure of the whole situation. So his took his sister’s hand and followed Joan out of the exit, finding her waiting with a soft smile just beyond the doorway. Sure, she could be harsh on her siblings sometimes, but she would always come around, making sure that they were okay.
The three half human, half turtle kids wandered through the tunnels of the sewer, following the path their father had taken so many times, before he had the uncles would start their patrol. Mini led the way, remembering the route for all the times you had brought her to wave goodbye to Raph, hoping that it would calm her childhood temper tantrums down whenever Raph left.
Ragnar now clung to the arm of Joan, watching every shadow around him with worried eyes. In his young mind, they all looked like monsters lurking in the shadows, ready to jump at them at a moment's notice. Ragnar thought of his father taking this route to the topside almost everyday, and how brave he had to be to do so. There was no doubt in Ragnar’s mind. His dad was one of the bravest men alive.
Finally, the three kids of you and Raphael came to the ladder that led to the world above. To Ragnar, it had seemed like several hours through the dark sewers, but in actuality, it may have taken less than a few minutes. But with all those shadows and monsters that continuously caught Ragnar’s attention, it felt like forever.
“It is this way", Mini said, pointing up the ladder. “I’ve seen dad go this way each time”.
Ragnar stared up the ladder, feeling a new fear wash over him. “That’s a long way up”, he said, mouth agape.
“It’s not that far”, Joan said, sending her brother over to Mini, before grabbing a hold on the ladder steps in order to start climbing.
As Joan climbed to the top of the ladder, pushing the cover of the manhole off, Ragnar stood uneasily and looked around. It was like watching something he wasn’t allowed to see. And even as Mini wrapped an arm around him, he still didn't feel fully safe.
Once the cover was off, Joan called down to Mini, asking her to send Ragnar up first, not wishing for him to be alone in the sewer. Though Joan sometimes found her siblings to be whiny, she did not like to make them feel more unsafe than necessary, which was the reason why she stood over the hole, smiling at Ragnar as he made his way upwards, Mini following closely behind.
Once at the surface, Ragnar looked around with wide eyes. He had never been in an alleyway before, nor had he ever heard the constant noise of the city at night. The blaring sirens somewhere beyond the low rise apartment buildings, and the occasional hunk of a car horn. For a moment Ragnar wondered if this was how his father felt whenever he crawled to the surface, in order to help the NYPD catch the many criminals Ragnar so often heard about. But it was the thought of his father that suddenly caused the boy to look around in fear.
“What if dad sees us?”, Ragnar asked as Joan pulled the cover back over the manhole.
“He’s on patrol for the next few hours”, Joan said, dusting off her hands. “The city is big, so the chances of him being around are less than small. We will be home before him and before mom wakes up. They won’t notice a thing”.
“But dad is a policeman”, Ragnar muttered. “He will notice”.
“Dad is not a policeman”, Mini said, giving Ragnar a sudden nuggie over his bald head. “He’s a ninja. That’s different”.
“Doesn’t matter”, Joan said. “We’re not here to discuss dad’s profession but to see the city. Come on!”
The three kids hurried to the mouth of the alley, watching the street from a hiding spot in the shadows. They watched people walk up and down the street. Business men and women on their phones, walking with hurried steps, stressed over the conversation about money. Teenagers was laughing on the street corner, and a couple stood under the street light with their arms around each other. Mini wondered if that was what you and Raph used to do before you had kids. Just standing out in the open or on the roof with your arms around each other, looking deeply into each other.
“Where do you think dad is?”, Mini suddenly asked, looking up towards the roof at the thought of you and him in your young years.
“Right here”.
Joan almost pushed over a trash can at the sound of her father’s voice. Mini felt her soul leave her body and a shiver run down her spine. But Ragnar felt relief, running to his father with his arms open, hugging the lower half of his torso, even if Raph looked furious.
“Daddy!”, the young boy shrieked, hiding his face against Raph’s hip. Raph placed a hand on his son’s head in a comforting gesture, but his expression did not change, his other hand on his hip.
“How did you know we were out?”, Joan asked almost in disbelief.
“Your mother texted me”, Raph said. “Someone forgot to turn off their second alarm. It kept beeping until she went in to turn it off”.
Ragnar’s eyes widened. He looked up to find his father looking down at him, his sisters realizing what Raph had just said. The sound of Joan’s facepalm echoed in the alley.
“Ups”, Ragnar smiled sheepishly.
“Ups indeed”, Raph said.
Mini moved some dirt on the pavement with her foot, playing nervously with her hands. “Are we in trouble, dad?”
“Oh, yes you are”, Raph said. “All of you are grounded”.
Mini and Joan complained loudly, asking their father if he was serious. Ragnar, still too young to feel or understand the frustration of being grounded, continued to bury his face against Raph, a content smile spreading over his face.
“No complaining. Masks, now”, Raph said, holding out his hand. With a sigh the girls relented, handing their bandanas to their father. Ragnar, who was still glued to Raph’s side, did not fight nor complain when Raph took his bandana off.
Lifting Ragnar up in his arms, letting the boy hug him around his neck, Raph went to the manhole and pulled over the cover with one hand, turning to the two girls as he pointed down the black hole with a snap of his fingers. “Lair”, he said, watching as Joan and Mini dragged themselves towards the ladder, knowing fully well that you were waiting back home. Ragnar on the other hand was happy. He was going home to his mother while being carried in his father’s arms, and nothing bad had happened. At least nothing bad in Ragnar’s eyes.

The Feral One • Ch 20
Finnick x Y/N
Series Masterlist Link
I promise we will get into the timer stuff soon but I have to build up the plot first…
Content Warnings - None!
Tumblr media
You wake up to Finnick gone, a note left on his pillow.
Got called into training early. Didn’t want to disturb you. I’ll see you at lunch.
Love,
Your fake husband
Why was he in training so early? He said yesterday that his training wouldn’t start till after breakfast.
Maybe he was upset by what happened last night. Maybe he didn’t enjoy it.
You let your thoughts consume you as you lay in bed, completely skipping breakfast and most of your morning schedule.
A knock on your door pulls you from your thoughts.
“Come in,” you sigh to whoever was waiting. You’re surprised to see Boggs enter.
“Miss Y/L/N, do I need to remind you that you have a schedule to follow?” he asks.
“No,” you yawn. “I’m sorry I lost track of time. What time is it anyways?”
“10:34 AM,” Boggs states. “I’ve been instructed to escort you to your doctor’s checkup, which you are very late to.”
Boggs gives you a minute to dress before he’s escorting you to the hospital. He says Coin isn’t happy that you are already disregarding your schedule and is rethinking your living arrangement.
Prim performs your checkup that morning. She clears you for the day and you make your way to the cafeteria to help with lunch prep.
11:30 rolls around and you finally have a chance to see Finnick. Twelve hours felt too long and you were anxious to face him again. He was sometimes hard to read.
“Hey love,” he says as you sit down next to him with your tray. “How was your morning?”
“Meh,” you shrug. “I got reprimanded by Boggs for not following my schedule. I guess that was a serious rule.”
“Sorry about this morning,” Finnick states. “I would have woken you up when they buzzed for me but you look like you needed the sleep.”
“That’s ok,” you sigh, thinking about how sad you were that he wasn’t there when you woke. “Why did they increase your training?”
“Katniss snuck onto a transport that left late last night for District 2,” he explains. “They’re moving up our deployment timeline.”
“Deployment?” you ask, setting your fork down. “You didn’t tell me they were sending you anywhere.”
“Can we talk about this tonight?” he replies.
“I’m not hungry,” you state, abruptly standing with your tray. Finnick calls out for you as you walk away, needing to escape for a bit.
You end up back at the hospital to talk to Prim.
“Could I get an excuse for the rest of the day?” you ask her. “I’m not feeling well.”
“Oh no! Do you need medicine? What’s not feeling well?” she asks.
“I’ve just had a bad day that’s all,” you shake your head. “I can’t mentally handle a schedule today.”
“Why don’t you go chat with Dr. Aurelius for a bit,” Prim suggests. “He’s available now if you want to see him.”
You had never been in therapy before. Dr. Aurelius seemed nice but you didn’t know if you could trust him. What do therapists even do?
“Nice to meet you Miss Y/L/N,” the man states as he enter the room. “I’m Dr. Aurelius. Why don’t we start with how you’re feeling today?”
“Sad,” you reply, unsure of how to properly convey your emotions.
“Do you know why you feel sad?” he asks. “Or what made you feel this way?”
“District 13 makes me sad,” you state as the man writes something down in his notebook. “I have no autonomy here.”
“They allowed you to get married,” he remarks. “Are you happy about that?”
“Meh,” you shrug. “I mean I love Finnick but it was a fake wedding for a propo that we agreed to do so we could be roommates here in 13. He’s lived with me for 5 years now. I skipped my schedule this morning and Coin is already threatening to make us live separately again.”
“I see,” the man comments. “Do you find schedules restricting?”
“I guess I do,” you respond. “I mean I’ve spent my whole adult life on house arrest so I’ve never really been able to make decisions for myself. Having a schedule feels like someone is telling me what to do all the time.”
“That’s understandable,” he comments. “I can excuse you from your schedule for today but you will need to find a compromise with President Coin. I will provide you with a list of options for your schedule so you can maybe pick out what you want to do. I apologize that the list is limited but it’s the best I can do.”
You take the list and agree to meet with him and Coin in the morning to discuss your schedule. In the mean time he gives you a “mentally unstable” bracelet to excuse you for the rest of the day.
The list seems meh. You had no interest in learning about nuclear weapons or the history of Panem, and cafeteria duty wasn’t necessarily your favorite.
Reflection time rolled around and Finnick enters your shared cabin.
“You skipped dinner,” he comments as he throws you an apple. You reluctantly take it and eat a bit to ease his worry.
“You skipped out on telling me about deployment,” you mutter.
“I’m sorry,” he sighs as he moves to sit next to you. “I just didn’t feel like there was a good time to tell you. I was going to tell you before the wedding but you had your breakdown and I didn’t want to worry you.”
“Where are they sending you?” you ask.
“The capital,” he responds. At this answer you burst into tears.
“You can’t leave me,” you sob. Finnick wishes he could pull you into a hug but he knows better than to touch you when you’re upset.
“It will only be for two weeks,” he states. “Three at most.”
“What if you don’t come back?” you hiccup.
“I’ll always come back for you,” he replies.

Tumblr media
Pairing: Simon “Ghost” Riley (Call of Duty) x Reader

It wasn’t right for Ghost to be paying you as much attention as he was. It felt right, and he wanted it to be right, but that didn’t mean it was. What was right was what kept the most people safe. What was right was what kept the most people alive. Usually that was what Ghost did. Ghost did what kept most people safe. He did what kept the most people alive. The problem, however, was that doing the right thing and indulging in his feelings for you were two diametrically opposing things. Indulging in his feelings — indulging in you — was wrong.
It wasn’t that there was anything wrong with you; there could never be anything wrong with you in his eyes. How could there be, when he was seeing you through rose colored glasses? Although in his case, he supposed, they were more dark red than rose. Trivialities aside though, the real problem wasn’t anything that you were doing, it was what he wasn’t doing.
He wasn’t peering around every corner anymore. He wasn’t focusing on covering his tracks as well as he should. He wasn’t triple checking every piece of intel the task force got their hands on. He tried to, he really did, but with a thousand thoughts running at a hundred miles per hour — and a large majority of them having to do with you — it was only expected that a few things slip through the cracks.
For the most part, nothing too bad had happened as a result of his carelessness. A few scrapes and maybe one-too-many close calls, but nothing that would have gotten anyone in trouble. Maybe, if he weren’t a lieutenant or if he were in a completely different field, he would’ve been content to let it slide. But as corny as it sounded, he was part of a team, and he wasn’t going to let more people get hurt on his watch. Not again.
So for the safety of the team, Ghost started avoiding you. It always hurt him to push past you in the hallways, ignoring your little attempts at small talk; or to use Gaz as an example for takedown demonstrations, when in reality all he wanted was to be able to savor the warmth of your skin, even if it was with you pinned under him. Although, if he were being honest, he wasn’t opposed to pinning you down in other contexts. But as much as he hurt, he knew he had to do it. It wasn’t fair to you or the rest of the team if he wasn’t at his full capacity at all times.
He had made that decision two weeks ago, and it was already starting to get to him. Sleep was harder to get by, he was snapping at his teammates more, and when he rubbed the eyeblack off, it was only replaced by the sunken shadows under his eyes. He missed you too. Missed the way you would always offer him a bite of your food during dinner even though he would never eat it; missed the way you would always shoulder him to get his attention while you were walking to the training room, your hands in your pockets as you began telling him about something you had read the night before; missed the way you would grip onto his arm and try to goad him into taking off the mask or telling you what he looked like. Always the utilitarian though, he shouldered the problems in stride. They were nothing, he told himself, he had been through worse and he would go through worse. That was just how it was in the military. Besides, Laswell had just told them about a new mission, and a new mission meant new problems and new distractions.
It had gone fine in the beginning, but after a certain point everything started going to shit. On paper, their mission was simple; extract Krasimir Zhelyazkov, an arms and ammunition dealer with the Bulgarian mob who had allegedly dealt with one of Makarov’s right hand men, Demyan Solovev. Zhelyazkov would take them to Solovev, and Solovev would take them to Makarov. Simple. Of course, nothing was ever that simple when it came to war.
For one, Bulgaria in the middle of winter was cold, and with cold came snow and ice and wind. And of course, with snow and ice and wind came slippage and extra gear and low visibility. Ghost had been worried about the weather going into it; while all the members of the 141 had training in multiple environments, it was never easy going into a fight with snowfall as thick as blanks in a lottery.
The other problem was Zhelyazkov. While Ghost and Laswell both confirmed the validity of the intel they had received, there was no guarantee that Zhelyazkov would turn. Makarov was an intimidating man, and the stories of what he did to snitches were not pleasant. Either way, Zhelyazkov was unlikely to make it out alive, Ghost just had to make sure he got the information out of him before he died.
And of course, the other problem — which Ghost admitted was not unique to this mission but was still a problem just the same — was you. Even though he had tried to put distance between the two of you, he couldn’t help himself from stealing a glance in your direction every once in a while, just to admire the way your breath condensed in the frigid air or how you scrunched up your nose as if to make sure it was still there.
Ghost knew about these problems before they happened, and so he prepared for them. Worried about slipping on the snow covered ground? Request boots with better traction. Worried about Zhelyazkov not snitching? Get his family involved; it was unethical, yes, but if it was what it took to get the information then so be it. And you. Ghost knew he couldn’t afford spending anymore time eyeing you in the field, so he only increased the distance between the two of you.
Typically, if a target heard that someone was coming for them, they tucked their tail into their legs and ran — usually to a foreign country or some sort of island. But with Zhelyazkov, there was nothing to tip the 141 that anything was amiss; no sudden airplane rides, no sudden stoppage of shipments, nothing. Zhelyazkov kept living and doing business as he always had, seemingly unaware of the intel the 141 had on him.
Which is why when they approached Zhelyazkov’s compound, they expected it to be an easy takedown. In order to save personnel and to preserve stealth, the task force only sent one team out. For this particular mission, the team included Ghost, Soap, Price, Gaz, and of course, you. Ghost was conflicted about your inclusion on the team; on one hand, you were a valuable asset to the mission, but on the other hand, seeing the way you rubbed your hands together for heat in the cabin of the helicopter filled him with an aching urge to reach out for you and was an obvious distraction that impacted his ability to protect his team. In the end though, he couldn’t hold his inability to focus over you and besides, you had experience from your time before the 141 working in similar conditions, not to mention the general tactical expertise you brought to the table.
The mission had started like any other routine extraction would. A chopper flew the five of you to a forest on the edge of the compound, the thick snowfall helping to cover you. Once on the ground, Price did a quick headcount to make sure everyone had landed alright, before readjusting his rifle and leading the group forward. The five of you traveled in a line, with Price at the head and Ghost at the rear. You were positioned behind Price, but even with Soap and Gaz in front of him, Ghost was still acutely aware of every step you took.
At the moment, it seemed as if there was nothing to worry about. The snowfall was heavy of course, but not too heavy that it hampered the team and besides, it covered their tracks and kept them hidden. At least it should have.
The sudden shower of gunfire actually wasn’t the first thing that tipped Ghost off that something was wrong. It had been their radios. Laswell had told them she would be checking in on them after they landed, but five minutes had already passed with no sign of communication. At this point, they had left the forest and Ghost tried calling in, but to no avail. His radio provided nothing but crackly static, buzzing and impatient. He knew something was wrong and he tried to call for Price, but that was when hell started raining down on them.
The thing about gunfire is that you could actually see the shot happen before you heard it. It had always been an odd phenomenon to Ghost, the slight delay between sight and audio. For a brief moment, Ghost watched the snowy skies in front of him become aglow with a barrage of flashing lights. In a weird sense, it was dreamlike. Mesmerizing. And then the sound hit him. Even with earmuffs on, the gunfire was deafeningly loud. It was like watching a fireworks display, except the pops were louder, harsher, and there would be no delighted children looking up at the air in awe.
He tried screaming at the others to take cover, but the combination of winter winds and cracking bullets was hard to cut through. Somewhere to his right, he heard Price yelling, but his words were constantly interrupted by the enemy’s fire. Ghost tried looking for the others, but suddenly the snow was too thick, the bullets too loud, his teammates too far away. He did the only thing he could: run to the treeline for cover.
Between the sheer magnitude of bullets being aimed at them, the time Ghost spent looking for his team, and the time it took him to get to the treeline, Ghost had taken more than a few hits. Nothing detrimental, thankfully, but he could feel the familiar sting of a bullet that brushed him a little too close than he would have liked. He keeled over against a tree, listening as bullets flew past his face or struck the thick wood behind him. He tried using his radio again but it was no use; he couldn’t get a signal.
He tried to turn around, but the gunfire was too constant. He couldn’t get a clear look. He swallowed down an unceremonious groan as he considered the situation. Returning fire was an option, of course, but not a smart one. Considering his lack of a decent vantage point and the fact that he couldn’t even clearly see where the shots were coming from, even the best sniper on the force — which was him — wouldn’t be able to get a clear shot. Besides, he only had so much ammo on him, and if the attack was coming from Zhelyazkov, which he assumed it was, then he was seriously outmatched in terms of equipment. The man was an ammunition dealer, for Christ’s sake, if he couldn’t shoot Ghost, he could certainly keep him waiting long enough for hypothermia to set in.
“Shit, Ghost!” he heard from his right. He turned to look, and there you were, sitting with your back against a tree and your rifle in your hands. He was overwhelmed with relief at the sight of you, before cursing himself under his breath. He was in the middle of being fired at, why was he letting you distract him? “Where’s everyone else?” you cried, your voice barely carrying over the roar of bullets.
“Safe, hopefully,” he yelled, “I didn’t see where they went.” He watched you shake your head, you were probably cursing to yourself right now.
“Did you see who was with Zhelyazkov?”
“There was someone with Zhelyazkov?”
“Not just someone,” you yelled, looking at him grimly, “Fishers.”
Ghost turned away from you, leaning his head against the tree. “Fucking hell,” he muttered to himself, before turning to look at you again. “You sure?”
You didn’t say anything in response, only giving him a grave nod.
“God damn it,” he muttered. “Well, we don’t have time to worry about that, understand? Right now we just have to get somewhere safe.”
You nodded again, turning back to look at the source of the fire. “Most of the fire is coming from an MG3,” you called out, “they’ll have to change the barrel soon, we can move then.”
Ghost nodded at you, briefly looking back as well. It wasn’t long before the gunfire began to die down and the two of you moved from your positions in the trees, running further into the forest. But whoever was operating the gun was well-trained, and it didn’t take long for them to replace the barrel of the gun and restart the fire. Ghost ducked behind another tree, his eyes watching you do the same as he took a breath.
That was the only way the two of you could move for a long time. Waiting for what felt like painstakingly long minutes for the barrel to have to be changed, just to be able to run maybe a few yards before the spray of bullets picked up again and you had to take cover. It was a painstakingly slow process, and throughout all of it, Ghost couldn’t help but worry that you wouldn’t get to cover in time, and he would have to watch as you died in front of him. He also couldn’t stop worrying about the rest of the team. It concerned him that you were here but Price, Gaz, and Soap weren’t. If they had died when the gunfire started he would have been able to see their blood in the snow, he supposed, as if that thought was supposed to comfort him. It didn’t do much, and he could only hope that the three of them had at least found each other.
Finally though, the deafening roar of gunfire began to quiet down, either due to distance or to lack of ammunition, and Ghost felt like he could breathe again. “Are you alright?” he called out to you, quickly scanning over your body.
You nodded, your chest heaving as you gulped in the freezing air. “You?” He nodded. You sighed, rubbing your hand over your face. “What the hell happened back there?”
“I don’t know,” he sighed, stomping to you through the thick snow. “You get hit anywhere?” he asked, his hand reaching tentatively for a scrape on your face.
You reached for your own face, freezing his hand in its tracks. He might have been a weathered war veteran, but even he got nervous in front of people he liked. He watched you wipe the blood off your face and stare at it, “It’s fine,” you told him, “it’s just a scrape. Motherfucker must have clipped me.”
“Let’s hope it doesn’t scar.”
“I don’t know, I think I’m pretty enough to pull off a face scar. What do you think?” you asked, the minx-like grin on your face providing a sharp contrast to the sheer gravity of the situation the two of you were in. That was another thing you did that distracted him. Those snarky quips and sly suggestions that made Ghosts stomach flip and his cheeks heat up.
“Stop worrying about appearances,” he chastised, trying to regain his focus, “we don’t have time.”
“You were the one that brought it up!” you cried, throwing your hands up.
“Quiet,” he said, “just because they stopped firing doesn’t mean we’re safe. For all we know they could have men on the ground looking for us.”
You dropped your hands to your side, “So now what do we do?”
He pursed his lips, surveying their surroundings. “We make our way to the secondary location as planned. Look at the tree branches,” he said, gesturing above him, “trees will grow their branches towards the direction that gets the most sun: south. The secondary location was north of the drop site and we’ve been traveling in a relatively straight line. If we keep moving in this direction we should come across it in an hour or so.”
You chewed on your lip, “Do we even know if it’s safe? Fishers was with Zhelyazkov, for all we know we could be walking straight into an ambush.”
“You sure it was Fishers?”
“Yes, it couldn’t have been anyone else.”
“Are you one hundred percent sure?” Ghost asked again, “the snow was thick, I couldn’t even see anything besides Gaz and Johnny.”
“I’m sure,” you insisted, “Me and Price were at the front, we saw the wall of Zhelyazkov’s compound. One of his cronies was up there with Fishers. He was standing next to an MG3 and pointing at us, I know it. I would recognize that stupid cowlick anywhere.”
Ghost groaned. Fishers wasn’t someone Ghost had known very well, so at the very least he was spared the painful feeling of being betrayed by someone he cared about — not that his feelings mattered. The traitor, Colten Fishers, was an American soldier. A veteran to military service, no doubt, but still considered a rookie in special operations. The official report would probably say that Fishers turned in exchange for some quick cash, that he was a cowardly traitor who betrayed them, but that answer didn’t satisfy Ghost.
Honestly, Ghost wasn’t even sure how Fishers had gotten onto the task force in the first place. Compared to the rest of the people on the team, Fishers’ resume was weak, his experience was subpar and his track record was a little too spotty for his liking. The fact that Fishers’ was even in a place to betray them worried him, almost more than the actual betrayal, because if Fishers was able to get on the task force with his lackluster résumé then that meant he had bad friends in high places.
“God damn it,” he muttered, “you have a point, but there’s not much else we can do. The more time we spend out here the more likely we are to get shot.”
“Or get hypothermia,” you said.
“Or get hypothermia,” he added. He reached for his radio, clicking it on only to be met with static again. “Bravo team, this is Bravo 0-7, do you copy?” No response.
“They probably set up signal blockers,” you pointed out, “either that or the storm is so bad it’s messing with our signal.”
He groaned, “Does yours work?” he asked.
“No,” you said, gesturing lamely at the damaged radio next to your chest, “motherfuckers clipped it while I was looking for Price. Scared the shit out of me too, thought they had gotten me right in the chest for a second.”
He walked up to you, bending down as he inspected the broken radio. He could feel you suck in a breath, and for a moment he let himself wonder if he gave you butterflies the same way you did to him. “Yeah,” he said, looking up at you, his mask inches away from your face, “this thing’s been shot to hell, there’s no way it’s gonna get a signal, even without a storm.” He lingered for a split second, captivated by the way your eyes stared up at him, large and round like a marble, before pulling back.
“Let’s get a move on,” he said, adjusting his rifle. “We can’t afford to be stuck out here when night falls.”
Walking in the snow was hard, walking in the snow and feeling you glance over at him every other minute was even harder. He didn’t want to look at you, well that was a lie, he did want to look at you, but he knew he shouldn’t look at you. He needed to put on a brave face, that was his job as a lieutenant. He needed to be serious, to have a plan, to not get hung up on distractions, and he couldn’t do that when he was watching you.
Instead, he tried to think about everything that could go wrong from this point. It seemed pessimistic, he knew, but he needed to be prepared. You had a point about the second location. While Fishers hadn’t been told everything about the mission, he knew enough to severely compromise them. Besides, if he did have one of the higher-ups on his side, there was no telling how much he knew. The secondary location had once been a logger’s cabin; it was small, kitted with only the bare necessities. A bathroom, a small kitchenette, and an empty bedroom they had planned to keep Zhelyazkov in. In other words, it wasn’t an easy place to set up an ambush. But they could’ve rigged the outside, set up tripwires connected to shotguns or planted mines along the perimeter. The forest around it was dense, which once would’ve been helpful to keep them hidden but now only provided a wide array of hiding spots for Zhelyazkov’s men to hide in.
Additionally, there was no telling how many men Zhelyazkov would have waiting for them. Even by himself, Ghost could hold his own and with you, their chances only increased. But Zhelyazkov practically had an army, and it would only take one well-aimed shot before it was all over. Granted, some of his men would likely be looking for the others, and if they also went to the cabin, the five of them could probably hold their own.
But there was no guaranteeing the others were heading to the cabin, let alone breathing. For all Ghost knew, their team of five could’ve been cut down to two long ago. “What are you thinking about?” you asked, pulling Ghost out of his thoughts.
He turned to look at you for the first time since you had started walking. There were snowflakes on your eyelashes and your face was tinged red from the cold. He wanted to be able to cradle your jaw, to warm you up until your face was flushed from something other than the cold weather. He wanted to tell you that he wasn’t going to let anything happen to you, that you would always be safe when you were with him, that he would kill anyone who tried to touch you and would do anything for a chance to hold you. “Just thinking about what you said earlier,” he said instead, “about Zhelyazkov ambushing us.”
You hummed, “Me too. I don’t know how likely that is anymore though.”
“Why do you say that?”
“I mean think about it,” you said, “we flew over the cabin on our way here and everything looked fine, no footprints or anything. And by the time we did that and the time they started shooting, maybe ten minutes had passed. That would mean Zhelyazkov had ten minutes to get his men there, and they wouldn’t have been able to take a direct route or else they would’ve ran into us. Besides, why waste his manpower by setting up an ambush we might not even show up for? I mean, the plan was probably to kill us all right from the beginning, so why plan for us showing up at the cabin if we’re not even supposed to be alive? I mean, who in their right mind would do that?”
“Let’s not assume Zhelyazkov is in his right mind. It’s thinking like that that gets people killed,” he said, harsher than he intended. “Not that you don’t have a point,” he added when he saw you look down in embarrassment. He didn’t mean to hurt you, but he had fallen into that mindset before and he knew how dangerous it was. “For Zhelyazkov to waste his manpower on an ambush would be tactically unwise, you’re right, but we don’t want to go in expecting an empty house and get caught off guard.”
“So then what? We go in expecting to get immediately gunned down by another machine gun? How is that any better? It’s not like there’s anything we can do to prepare for that.”
Ghost grimaced, once again, you had a point. “Still, it’s better to be prepared,” was all he could say. You looked at him as if you wanted to say more, but your mouth stayed shut and your eyes turned to focus ahead of you once again.
The two of you walked in silence, with nothing but the sound of crunching snow to indicate that anyone was even in the forest at all. After what felt like ages, Ghost paused, holding out a hand to stop you too. He felt you looking at him, but he didn’t respond. He was studying your surroundings, scrutinizing the snow on the ground before searching the skies.
“What is it?” you finally asked in a hushed whisper.
“Checking for traps,” he said, his gravelly voice so quiet he could barely hear himself. “The cabin should be just beyond that treeline,” he whispered, pointing. You followed his hand, but you couldn’t see anything behind the dense wall of tree trunks. “Let’s go,” he said, “get your gun out.” You complied, mirroring him as he unshouldered his rifle and held it against his chest. He turned to look at you, your lips pursed into a tight line and your hair sprinkled with snowflakes. He wished you weren’t at risk of walking into an ambush, that way he could capture the way you looked with a camera.
He began slowly stalking towards the cabin, cursing to himself at the snow crunching under his feet. He arrived at the edge of the treeline, coming onto an open clearing with the small wood cabin at the very center. His head swiveled around, constantly checking for the familiar glint of gunmetal hiding in the trees. He turned back to you, “Let’s split up,” he said quietly, his voice muffled by his mask. “I’ll go left, you go right. Meet in the back and then sweep the house.” He watched you nod, and his eyes followed you briefly as you began to move in the opposite direction before he returned his focus to the task at hand.
The perimeter of the clearing wasn’t necessarily large, but it still took him a painfully long time to reach the back. “You see anything?” he asked when you arrived. You shook your head, and he cocked his head towards the cabin. “Let’s go,” he said, turning back to check on you as the two of you made your way towards the front of the house.
There was a small porch on the front, with a pair of steps leading up to it. Ghost skipped them, choosing to step over them and go straight to the porch. You weren’t so smart, and when you put your weight on the first step, it squealed and groaned. Ghost whipped around at the sound, and you rolled your eyes back and cringed, “Shit,” you muttered quietly.
The two of you were frozen for a second, you with your foot still on the step and Ghost with his eyes trained on the door. When nothing happened, you lifted your foot and stepped over the stairs, copying Ghost like you should have before. When you were both on the porch, Ghost gestured for you to open the door. You reached for the doorknob, turning it slowly before swinging it open.
Ghost walked in, his rifle swiveling as he made his way to the bathroom. He could hear you following behind him, the snow on your boots crunching slightly as you went to the bedroom. He swung open the door of the bathroom, only to be met with his own reflection in the mirror above the sink. His helmet was covered in snow, only accentuating the darkness of his eyes. When he had confirmed that the room was empty, he exited, watching as you came out from the bathroom.
“It’s clear,” you said, before he could ask.
“That’s a relief,” he said, letting out a sigh, but he didn’t lower his rifle.
“You think the others will be coming here too?” you asked, looking around the tiny house.
He wanted to say yes, but honestly he had no clue. The forest was huge, and he had no idea where the others might have been. They could be looking for the cabin as well, but there was no guarantee they’d find it.
He took off his helmet and cracked his neck. “Night’s about to fall, get some rest. I’ll take the first watch,” he said instead, reaching into his pack and tossing you a bedroll.
You caught it easily, but made no move to set it down. “It’s fine,” you told him, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen you sleep, you deserve the rest.”
“That wasn’t a request,” he said sternly, causing you to roll your eyes.
“Yeah, yeah it’s an order, isn’t it? Geez, you sound like Price.”
“Price is right. You need your sleep, a sniper could spot your eyebags from a mile away.”
“Rude,” you shot back, “and by that logic, wouldn’t a sniper be able to see you from, like, two miles away from all of your eyeblack?
“If they see me, they’re already dead.”
“Wow,” you said, rolling your eyes, “I’m so scared.”
“You should be.”
“Whatever,” you sighed, “I’m gonna take a shower then, you got any soap?”
He threw you a small plastic container, “Suave three-in-one? What are you, a high school boy?” you asked, shooting him an incredulous look.
This time it was his turn to roll his eyes, “Beggars can’t be choosers, darling, you want luxury toiletries bring them yourself.”
You were silent for a moment, and Ghost started to feel worry bubble up in his chest. He didn’t mean to say that nickname out loud, it just happened. He was exhausted and paranoid and hungry and he was stuck in a room he could cross in about ten steps and it just slipped out. And if this was how it ended, in this stupid, tiny, suffocating house that could have gone in so many other directions; if he ruined everything because he couldn’t control himself, he would have never forgiven himself.
“You think I’m darling?” you asked with a grin, and Ghost could practically feel a weight being lifted off his shoulders.
“Just go take your shower,” he said, but even he could hear the smile in his voice.
“You sure you don’t want to join me?” you asked, pulling out a towel from your bag. Ghost stilled. He could tell you were just joking, you had to be. But there had to be at least some truth in it, otherwise you wouldn’t have even thought to say that right? Suddenly the house felt uncomfortably warm. It was too small, too cramped, too stuffy. He thought the house’s lack of heating would have been a problem, but for some reason it felt like there were a thousand heaters in this tiny room.
“Geez, Ghost,” you said, giggling, “I was just messing with you. Dang, is it really that easy to get you speechless? Guess I have a new party trick to show the others when we get back.”
He stared at you, trying to come up with something to say. “I’m gonna set up outside,” he said finally, changing the topic, “leave the soap in the shower, will you?”
You hummed, slinging the towel over your back. He watched you step into the bathroom, his eyes lingering on the door as it shut behind you. He could hear the shower turn on, but he made himself leave before he could hear your clothes come off.
The crisp, winter air provided a sharp contrast to the tense atmosphere of the house. The frigid winds nipped at his eyes and he could feel a shiver rack through his chest but he didn’t mind it. It was refreshing, feeling the freezing air fill his lungs and watching his breath condense in front of him. He sat down on the porch steps and reached for his rifle, checking the magazine. He picked out one of the bullets, thumbing it thoughtfully as he stared at the snowstorm in front of him. He put the bullet back and looked back at the house, making sure that you weren’t around before he pulled off his mask. He let out a sigh, thumbing the hard plastic skull in his hands and letting the frosty air kiss at his exposed skin before pulling the soft, black, skull-marked balaclava he wore normally out of his bag and over his face.
Ghost wasn’t the kind of person to let his mind wander. He knew a lot of people did, Soap did, Gaz did, even Price did, but not him. It was just easier that way, he never really had a good place for his mind to wander to anyways. His mind had a tendency to lurk around dark places, and it always left him worse than he started. Once, he had tried to speak to someone about it, and that had only ended up with another dead body to his name. Instead, he distracted himself by focusing on the task in front of him: watching the treeline for enemy soldiers.
Somehow though, you started to linger around the edge of his thoughts, and he didn’t push you away. He kept staring ahead at the snow-covered trees, but in his mind he was seeing you. He was seeing your stupid teasing grin, your fidgeting fingers that never stayed still, that smooth skin on the junction of your neck and your shoulder that he wanted to kiss and lick and bite. He could almost see your lust-drunk face in front of him, starry-eyed and teary, your lips swollen and red from how hard he would kiss you. He could practically hear you under him, all breathy and pitchy, your voice raw from how much he would make you beg for him. God, he knew he needed to stop these thoughts but he needed you more. He needed you pressed against him, your skin warm and soft and supple, he needed to feel you on top of him, to be inside you. He needed to know how it would feel to have your mouth around him, your eyes lidded as you stared up at—
“Hey,” you said, tiredness leaking through your voice. Ghost suppressed the urge to jump, turning to look at you. “You see anything interesting?” you asked, taking a seat beside you.
“Nothing,” he said, hoping you wouldn’t notice the way he had to slightly readjust his pants. You didn’t, thank god, for a special forces operator you surely weren’t the most observant, but he wasn’t complaining. You weren’t wearing much, only a pair of thin pajama pants, a tank top, and a hoodie. He was surprised you weren’t shivering.
He could feel you staring at him, partly because of the way your warm breath fanned over him and partly because you stared at him like he was the most interesting thing in the world. He had to fight the urge to look back at you because he knew if he did, you would be able to see the star-struck in his eyes. “You need something?” he asked, trying to fill the silence.
You turned away from him, your eyes scanning the treeline. “Not really,” you hummed, “but it’s lonely inside, can’t sleep.”
“Lonely?”
“Well— Not lonely, but— I don’t know. It’s just… unsettling, I guess.”
“That’s rich coming from you,” he said, with a slight chuckle.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” you snorted.
“It means I’ve seen you do things that would make a grown man cry and you're scared of sleeping alone.”
“Uh, that is not it,” you scoffed, rolling your eyes. “I’m not scared, I’d just rather stay out here. Besides, it’s easier to fall asleep in the cold.”
“Is it really?” he asked teasingly, “or do you just like me that much?”
You yawned, letting your head rest on his shoulder. He tensed up at first, but when he realized how nice it was to feel you against him, he relaxed. “You got me pegged, Ghost,” you said tiredly. He had to suppress a groan when he saw the way you looked up at him. Your eyes were large and slightly damp from the yawn, and he could see the smallest speckle of teardrops on your eyelids. Everything about you was just so damn intoxicating, and for what? It wasn’t like he could act on it like he wanted to. He couldn’t push your slightly damp hair out of your face like he wanted to, he couldn’t run his hands up your body and squeeze you in all the right spots like he wanted to, he couldn’t push you down against a table and fuck you until you cried out for him like he wanted to. He wanted to do so much to you and he just couldn’t.
“What are you thinking about?” you asked, your voice sweet and tired.
He stared at you, it’s not like he could tell the truth but it hurt him so bad to lie to your face. “Why do you ask?”
“Because you’re interesting,” you said simply.
“Am I?”
“Mhm,” you hummed, staring back at him, “are you gonna give me an answer?”
“Not tonight. You gonna sleep out here?” he asked, watching as you let out a yawn.
“Do you want me to?” you asked, picking your head up off his shoulder and staring up at him.
Ghost was silent for a moment, “I don’t have a problem with it,” he said finally. You gave him a sleepy smile which made his heart melt before resting your head against his shoulder again. “Aren’t you cold? You’re barely wearing anything and your hair is still wet, you’re gonna catch a cold.”
You groaned, burying your face into his shoulder, “Now you really sound like Price,” you mumbled, voice muffled by his jacket.
“And Price is right, again. You’re gonna get sick or catch hypothermia, go get a blanket,” he said, nudging you off of his shoulder gently. He didn’t want to have to push you away, especially since you looked so comfortable, but he was worried for your health. In this weather and in this line of work, catching a cold could have unforeseen effects, and god forbid you get hypothermia. Slowly, you pulled yourself off of Ghost, shooting him a pointed look as you turned back into the house. He turned back to the treeline, trying to remember the way your head leaned against his shoulder. He could still feel the shadow of your touch against him, the warmth and the weight of it. He wanted it back again, regretting sending you off.
It wasn’t long until you returned though, carrying a large wool blanket. “Happy now?” you asked, quirking your brow up at him as you returned to your spot beside him. “I stole it from the bedroom, figured nobody else would be using it.” You wrapped the blanket around your shoulders, pulling your knees in so you could cover them too. You let your head fall back on his shoulder again. “The stars are beautiful, aren’t they?” you asked, your eyes fixed on the sky.
He looked up, he hadn’t paid much attention to them, but you had a point. The sky was a dark sapphire blue, punctuated by a canyon of stars down the center. Even with the snow falling, the beauty of the stars shone through, their light bright and blinding. He let his eyes wander down to you for a moment, and he could see the night sky reflected in your glassy eyes. Your eyes flickered to his and you grinned, “Like what you see, L.T.?” you asked.
Ghost looked away, “Go to sleep,” he said, missing the way you scrunched your nose in annoyance at him.
Although he wasn’t looking directly at you, he could still see you in his periphery. He could feel you too. Feel the way you nuzzled into his shoulder, one of your arms snaking up to wrap around his like you were a koala clinging onto a branch. Feel the way your chest rose and fell against him as you breathed, small puffs of air condensing in front of you. He could feel the soft flutter of your eyelids on his arm as you buried your face into his shoulder, trying to shield your face from the cold. It wasn’t long before your breaths began to even out next to him, the puffs of condensed air arriving slower and more evenly.
He turned to look at you again, his eyes raking over your body. The blanket pulled tightly around you, your hair which fell slightly in front of your face, your lips which he swore were pulled in the smallest smile, the bridge of your nose, the ends of your eyelashes, that little scrunch in between your eyebrows. You were the most beautiful thing in that moment, stars be damned. He would’ve given anything to be able to snap a photo of you right now, but he couldn’t, so he resorted to tattooing the image of you into his brain. Not that it was hard, looking at you, admiring you, treasuring you, it was the easiest thing he would ever do.
Ghost shouldn’t have been paying so much attention to you, not here, not when you were so vulnerable and he was supposed to be keeping watch, to be protecting you. It wasn’t right. But wasn’t it? Couldn’t it be? It felt right, and he wanted it to be right. He needed it to be right. He had spent so much time focusing on everyone else; what was safe for everyone else, what was healthy for everyone else, what was right for everyone else. But now, just now, couldn’t he just focus on himself for once? Couldn’t he just be selfish for once, to savor and relish in this moment? You were here and you were safe, and he was here and he was safe, and wasn’t that all that mattered in this tiny moment devoid of reason or time or outsiders? This had to be right. This was right. You were right. You always were.
He looked back at the stars again, taking in a deep breath as he savored the smell of you. You smelled like gunmetal and cheap soap. You smelled like him. He let your fragrance continue to fill his nose as he stared up at the sky. He watched in awe as a streak of bright light arced across the vast canvas of dark blue sky: a shooting star. He thought back to what his mother used to tell him in the backyard of their old flat in Manchester. “Look Simon,” she would say, tracing the path of the star’s tail with her finger, “that’s a shooting star. You make a wish, and you don’t tell anyone, and then it comes true.” Back then, he used to wish for allowance, new toys, a pot roast for dinner, one time for his dad to go away. They never came true, and he knew it was because he always told his mom what he wished for.
This time though, this time would be different. He would keep it a secret until the day he died. Another weight for him to carry, but one that would be worth it if it came true. He wouldn’t tell anyone what he wished for that night, with your sleeping form against him, soft and warm and comforting. He wouldn’t tell anyone that he wished you would love him like he loved you.

Febuwhump Day 13: You weren’t supposed to get hurt
Old sketch design for my forgive me au but I’m gonna use it anyway
Donnie stares down at the screen as he types away, he's surrounded by the quietness of the lab. He's exhausted but he needs to finish what he started. It's been a rare few quiet days from having to go against any major Kraang players and he's taking this time to really get things sorted for when the time comes and he wakes up properly.
His fingers slow down on his keypad, eyes automatically looking up to his monitor showing the vital signs. Everything is stable for the moment and Donnie is grateful for that.
“Knock knock”  jolting, Donnie shoots his head around and sees Raph standing there. Even though his body doesn't have any eyes, he knows from how his head is tilted he assesses Donnie.
And he doesn't like it.
“Raphael, what can I do for you at this hour”  he's glad his mask hides the bags under his eyes.
“Raph could ask you the same thing” the sounds of Raphs metal feet hitting his floor as he walks closer, Donnie lets his ninpō ripple under his skin as he subtly swipes away the taps connected to the chamber.
Raph cant see.
“Why are you still up?”
“Have a lot of things to do. Projects to finish. I need to make sure our defences are up and running frantically, even if the Kraang are being strangely quiet it won't last forever and I need to make sure we're ready” Donnies hands are flying about his keypad as he speaks.
A heavy hand rests on top of his own, stilling him. Donnie looks down at the metal digits, observes the grooves and scratches that litter his brother's metal casing. A sharp prain runs through him at the thought of not seeing his oldest brother's flesh hand again but he knows it's too late now. Even if he tried it wouldn't work.
And he doesn't want to go through that again.
“You need to let me buffer out your hand again” he says absently.
Dragging his tiered eye up to these dimmed lit eyes of his brothers he hears Raph sigh. “Don, please go to sleep. I know its been hard  on you but I don't want you to burn yourself out again. I can't go through watching you die right in front of my eyes. Not again.”
Looking away Donnie swallows. “That wasn't my intention.”
“I know” Raph’s hand leaves Donnie’s and he secretly mourns the loss. “But you mean a lot to us Don, we don't want you to keep hurting.”
He stubbornly refuses to look up, “I’m fine, Raph.”
“Please donnie, Le-”
“Dont!” Donnie grits out, cutting off whatever Raph was going to say.
Silence hangs in the air, tension heavy.
Closing his eyes and breathes deeply through his nose, “I'm sorry” he exhales.
Raphs gently places his hand back on Donnies broad shoulder and he leans into the touch. “I know I nag a lot, but I just don't want you to hurt”
Patting Raphs hand “I know big brother” looking up he turns to face Raph, metal hand falling from his shoulder. “Look I promise i'll go to sleep, I just need another 10 minutes”
They both stand there staring at each other, it feels like an eternity before Raph sighs again and steps back. “Okay, I know a losing  battle when I see one. Im making the rounds and when I come back and you're not asleep i'm dragging your ass to bed”
Snorting, Donnie bobs his head. “Sure” a small smile forms on his face.
Head shaking fondly, Raph walks to the door but pauses before he leaves. “I meant what I said Don” turning his head around he continues “you mean a lot to us, your family and we do anything for the family.
“Yeah” his voice catches in his throat.
They’ll do anything for their family.
Nodding Raph bids him farewell, “g’night don”
“Night” he whispers.
He stands there for a few seconds before he shuts all of his projects down, he pauses with his hand hovering in the air, he feels his ninpo running through his body, he brings up the tabs containing the chamber again and walks away as he transfers them to his gauntlet.
With a quick few strides to one side of the room, Donnie presses his palm to a hidden compartment, there's a hiss as the doors open. He's glad he never told anyone about this hidden room. It's become very useful for stuff he doesn't want others to see.
The doors close firmly behind him with the lights flickering on, with a flick of his fingers the tabs are transferred to the machine connected to the chamber. “I'll be quick, then you can go back to sleep. Donnie passes his time by making sure everything is working correctly, it usually takes about 10 minutes or so, but he's dragging his feet. He talks about anything that comes to mind, about the time Mikey ended up sleepwalking into a wall, or that time he ended up floating to the ceiling and unable to get down,.
“He’s exhausted, Mikes been doing too much lately”. Donnie muses.
Donnie goes on, speaking about the time when April and he had found a stash of booze, that was strangely still in date, and got drunk. “April was cursing me out, she should've known that my metabolism is superior than hers.” he absently rubs his head from where she smacked him when he did tell her.
His feet bring him closer to the chamber, “Jr is becoming a terror, coming more and more like his mother everyday” Donnie checks the systems and the vitals. “He's learning so fast, it was enjoyable watching him talk cheekily back to April” he pauses and looks down.
“You'd like him,” he whispers.
A dull scratches his attention, turning his head Donnie sees a green hand with an IV cannula strapped to the back, tubing floating around his body. The hand drags down and his claws leave sharp grooves into the glass.
Walking up, Donnie places his own pawl onto the thick glass. Leo stares back at him with dull unseeing eyes, a mask firmly placed onto his mouth while his body is submerged in water.
“I'm sorry,” Donnie whispers as he watches those unseeing eyes flutter and shut.
“Please forgive me” he murmurs to the dead.

11:07 AM
You’ve been in the compound for less than an hour and you’re at Tony and Bruce’s lab, being overwhelmed with theories of how and why they think they can bring Natasha back.
But the thing is, they only have about 2 days. To be precise, 56 hours. Natasha died at 7:13 PM. That’s why is always so hard to sleep when every night around that time, your mind goes back to Vormir.
“We think that, if we find a way to get to Vormir in time, we might have a chance to stop her”, Tony said.
“Stop her? Won’t that reverse the whole ‘saving the world’ thing?”, you say while looking at the place. It’s a mess. Natasha would’ve hated.
“No, you see, time doesn’t work that way. We can’t go back in time and undo something. It would just create a different timeline, but not change ours. If we go back in time and kill Thanos, everything he’s done will still be done but, the second we kill him, another string of time would be created.”
“Says who?”
“Someone who knows about this stuff, trust me”, Bruce tries to convince you without revealing his source. You look at Tony who just makes a gesture suggesting you to ignore this part.
“So you’re saying that, basically, all we have to do is… Go to Vormir?”
“At the right time, yes”, Stark seems hopeful.
“And why don’t you just get a quinjet or something and go?”
“Because, and that’s the problem, Vormir is about 15.000 light years… We can’t get there.”
You knew it. All of this was just bullshit and suddenly you hated yourself even more for believing there might actually be a way of bringing her back. You try processing what Bruce just said and it’s like the whole universe is laughing at you for being so stupid. How could you. You were fine. Or at least you tried to believe you were. She’s dead. She is dead. Natasha is dead. Your girlfriend is dead. Girlfriend. God, you couldn’t even propose to her, the ring long forgotten somewhere in the locked room. This is all so stupid. You’re so stupid and your girlfriend is dead and you never even get to call her your fiancé or wife or nothing. Nothing. She was nothing now. You’re not even a widow, you’re just nothing. You’re no one and you have no one. You’re alone. It should’ve been you. Not her. She was perfect, she deserved to live. She deserved to win. She should be here.
“Woah, hey! Y/N! Hey, what happened?” Tony is holding your face between his hands and you just now realize you were crying. Bawling. You heart was beating so fast you felt like throwing up.
Fucking panic attacks.
You couldn’t speak, your eyes going back and forth but never really looking at the man in front of you. You shake your head and dries your tears with the back of your hands with a certain strength. You whole face is red and Tony and Bruce are giving you pitiful looks.
God, you hated this. So much.
“I’m fine, it’s fine” you take a deep breath, “Just keep going… How- Is there a way to get there or not?”
“Are you sure you’re okay? We can-“
“I’m fine!”, you cut Bruce, “I’m fine, okay? Just answer me”
“Uhm, there might be a way”
“Stop with this might this might that. Just fucking say it already”
“You know Carol? Captain Marvel, Space chick, blonde and tall?”
“I know of her”
“She got her powers from the Tesseract”, Tony continues, “And now, she can fly trough galaxies like, super fast!“
“So we need her?”
“Not exactly”, this time, Bruce says, “Carol is really, really far away, not even with all her powers she could get there in time. We can’t even reach her”, the scientist looks at you, “We need the Tesseract”
“To create a machine?”
“To hit someone with it”, Tony says while cleaning his throat. You barely even listened.
“What? Are you- Are you serious?”
“It could work”
“It could kill someone! This Carol chick only survived because she was half Kratos or something!”
“Kree, and yeah, maybe, but”, the sortear guy keeps trying to convince you, “It worked! All we need is someone willing to do it. Without risk tests and all the regular procedures we are legally required to do”
Oh. A lab rat. They needed a lab rat dumb enough to sacrifice their life’s for a maybe.
Maybe the person will die. Maybe the whole compound would explode. Maybe it wouldn’t even do nothing.
Maybe they’d get Natasha back.
“I’ll do it”
“Yeah, we know Romeo”, Tony smiles. Bruce walks fast to a closet, opening and grabbing a suit.
“We made from your old measures but…”, Banner looks at you up and down and you feel embarrassed and exposed, “We might need to tighten a little bit”
Ouch, what a way to call you malnourished.
12:33 - 55 hours and 20 minutes until Vormir
Bruce was still measuring you in the lab and it was quiet. You knew he had questions but you were grateful he didn’t asked them.
Yelena enters the place holding a bag os chips and a bottle of water. She doesn’t say anything just gives it to you.
“Eat. And drink it”
“I’m not really hungry”
“I literally did not asked anything”, she opens the bag while still in your hands and grabs some chips, “Natasha will hate to see you like this”, she smiles, “I can picture her complaining about your habits”’ now she laughs, “I mean, when she sees your house she will freak out! You killed all her plants! The place is a mess”
“You’ve only seen the outside”
“Sure”
“What do you mean, ‘sure’?”
“I mean…”, she steals more chips, “Sure”
You get this weird feeling that she’s been visiting you without you realizing it. It says a lot about you.
When Yelena stops rambling about her sister, that’s when you realize you’ve eaten some chips. Basically the whole bag, per se.
“You talk as if you’re sure this will work”, now you’re drinking the water. Yelena is smiling not only because of the conversation.
“Someone has to, right?”
Yeah. Someone has to.
1049 words.

478: drabble
alternatively, a glimpse of hwayoung’s first 100 days <3
[ 478 masterlist ]
DAY 13
“Hi, pretty girl,” Jungkook hovers above Hwayoung as she lies on her back, much to her curiosity and much to your amusement.
“Heyyy-…” Jungkook drawls as he goes from the center of the foot of the bed all the way to the side, suddenly straightening up as he does a standing long jump all the way to the other, “….pretty girl!”
Your daughter doesn’t seem to be amused as you but she still watches her dad anyway, making you snort so hard that the grogginess you’ve had from the night before starts to dissipate.
“What are you doing?”
“It’s week two. I’m trying to see if Hwayoung can track things with her eyes; that’s supposed to be a milestone this week.”
“Where did you get that from?” you wonder out loud, trying to recall if you read that anywhere from the pamphlet that her pediatrician gave you.
Jungkook sounds almost offended that you’re asking him to cite his sources, making him scoff playfully. “My instincts.”
You try not to bring up Jungkook’s constant indecisiveness and his need for approval whenever it came to tending to Hwayoung, yet with just one look, he scoffs as he changes his answers.
“The pedia.”
Your glance is empty and you’re just about to believe it because sometimes, you have to talk Jungkook out of texting the doctor at godforsaken hours in the morning just because he has a question.
He mistakes your glance for something more and instantly he relents, shoulders sagging as he huffs. “Fine, it’s the parenting subreddit.”
DAY 32
“Is it just me or is Hwayoung not starting to coo yet?” you mumble under your breath, startling Jungkook awake not because you suddenly spoke while he’s only shallowly sleeping, but because it’s the same thing on his mind.
“Not just you. I thought I was going crazy,” he sighs, pinching his eyes. Surely enough, your daughter knows how to cry and shriek, but she isn’t at that stage yet where she mimics the basic syllables that you echo to her.
You sigh, rethinking the past few days with utter concentration just to see if you’ve missed a milestone. Jungkook thinks as hard as you, eyes fluttering to see Hwayoung awake in her crib but peacefully just looking up at the toys.
Jungkook stands up as you list off the things you’ve searched on your own, crouching down to get Hwayoung off her crib so the both of you can fawn over her more closely as you ponder over her (incoming) milestones. He’s less nervous now when it comes to picking her up because supporting her comes to him like second nature now, however no matter how secure she is in his hold, Jungkook overlooked the possibility of his entire head bumping against the overhead toys.
He hits his head so hard against the base of it that he hears a resounding slap against his skull, but apart from that, he hears something else — Hwayoung cooing.
You immediately squeal in celebration, clapping your hands that makes your daughter turn her eyes to you this time. Jungkook blinks once, twice before breaking out into a grin.
He settles Hwayoung on your lap, walks over to the crib again before crouching, and prepares an act.
DAY 65
When you walk out of the bathroom fresh from your shower, the first thing that greets you is the sight of two figures laying down on the mat; one delicate in her new onesie, and the other clearly overgrown for the playpen.
“It’s tummy time.”
Jungkook calls out to you even if you don’t beg for an explanation, craning his neck to look at you from behind him. His nose almost dives to the floor if not for you snickering at how you have to walk backwards just to catch him and Hwayoung in the same frame.
“How’s the neck?”
“Hmm, it’s a little sore. I fell asleep on the couch again,” Jungkook frowns, rolling out the tensions with his knuckles. He pleasantly hums at the pressure, eyes blinking until he realizes why you’ve never responded to him. He sheepishly chuckles, scratching his head. “Oh. You meant Hwayoung.”
DAY 100
Hwayoung can’t just seem to stop giggling.
Her laughter has no real agenda behind it but its common theme revolves around Jungkook fumbling for something one way or another, the current fit of laughter your daughter’s in now being your husband fumbling for the strings of Miso’s collar (that he crocheted himself) that goes with the party theme.
There’s a distinct warmth that spreads in your chest, less of recalling that Hwayoung’s milestones are on time and more of the realization that you have everything you’ve ever hoped for; your very own family getting ready in the dressing room where just outside, all of your closest family, friends, and colleagues wait to celebrate Hwayoung’s first 100 days.
“Jungkook?”
He hums at the mention of his name, brows furrowed in frustration because Miso won’t just stay still but he still gives you attention. He straightens up immediately at the way your eyes seem glassy, and normally, he’d race towards you at the very first sight of you being down.
Jungkook, however, doesn’t have to do anything because Hwayoung coos and giggles once again, reaching her hand out in such a smooth and controlled manner that her little fist hovers above your face, almost as if she’s willing for the happy tears to stay inside.
You burst into laughter at that, the tears still coming to show that you’re so overwhelmed and happy — it actually stings. Your eyes flicker between your husband and your daughter, a grin making its way to your lips.
“Love you.”

What do you think are Merlin and Arthur’s greatest personality strengths and weaknesses? Why? What do you love about their dynamic?
Heads up, I’m autistic and this has been my special interest for way too long and I don’t have anyone to talk to about it so this post is going to be a very long one.
My favourite thing about the writing of the show (which isn’t great, but separate issue) is how every character manages to make a complete 180 from the beginning to the end, turning their initial positive traits into negative traits while not sacrificing character development to do so. It’s a skill I haven’t figured out how to use very well in my own writing and envy greatly, but I can talk about it for hours.
For Merlin, his devotion to Arthur is easily his most interesting strength and weakness to me.
In season 1, it’s great because he finds out he has this grand purpose and suddenly all the things he’s struggled with, feeling like a monster, feeling cursed etc, suddenly make sense to him. It’s too much to put on a child (because he’s somewhere between 16-18 at first but that’s never confirmed) but if it helps him to see the beauty of magic and to see more than just “I felled a tree and almost killed a man” -based on the conversation with Will in season 1 episode 4- then that’s great.
So as the show progresses, he starts getting to know more about himself and what he can do, but because his two mentors reinforce that he’s solely tied to Arthur, every good thing he learns about magic is connected to a man who hates and doesn’t understand magic. Also someone who he has to hide from in order to protect himself and not end up on the pyre. At the same time, he also never has a chance to learn about his magic and where it came from like Morgana did with visiting the Druids and Kilgharrah was never exactly forthcoming with information.
I think that’s why Morgana and Merlin’s differences and similarities are so interesting to me, but that’s a different thing.
Anyway, by the end of season 4, Arthur is betrayed by Agravane and we see just how devoted Merlin is to Arthur in all the best ways. He assembles an army, restores Arthur’s hope and belief in himself, saves Arthur’s life while risking his own and then killing the uncle who betrayed him, (the brilliance of Agravaine dying with magic and Merlin simply stabbing Morgana was absolutely amazing, but again, I digress.) he also reunites Arthur with his love, and swears fealty to him despite being ‘just’ a servant.
At the same time, he uses magic to block Morgana’s powers to make sure they can win, and he does this by sneaking back into Camelot in the middle of the night and not sleeping for over 48 hours in order to do it. His devotion to Arthur goes so deep that he’s willing to destroy himself for it. That’s one of the less extreme examples, he does try to die for Arthur multiple times, but you get the point. Even if he isn’t dying, he’s living just for the purpose of serving Arthur and doing anything it takes to keep him safe. Even at the cost of Arthur himself, (not wanting him to choose between magic and his beliefs, which was literally Arthur’s job to choose as a king who’s responsible for all the people in his kingdom)
And he even says this in season 1 episode 13 when he says “his life is worth a hundred of mine” when he believes he’s going to die to save Arthur’s life after the questing beast and again at the end of season five, “I didn’t want to put you in that position”
I’m sleep deprived, please don’t make me recite whole episodes to remember quotes.
I just realised how long this is getting, so I’m going to try and wrap it up.
Anyway, by season 5, Merlin becomes so consumed by his fear of losing Arthur that he completely loses sight of what’s important, returning magic to Albion and ending the purge. I know they said the goal was peace at the end but in season 1, Kilgharrah sort of cryptically said he’d be returning magic. So he thinks Mordred needs to die, but he can’t get Arthur to see that because even if Arthur knew he was going to die by Mordred’s hand, I think he’d probably let it happen and just do the right thing as long as he did live.
Merlin knows this so he feels responsible for keeping Arthur alive by keeping secrets which is ultimately a final betrayal for Arthur in his last days while he’s coming to terms with it. He was more upset about the lies and the deception than the magic, which I’ll get onto in a minute, but Merlin’s solution of shielding Arthur instead of doing the right thing is ultimately what leads to his downfall. (Basically the Disir episode)
That’s a very condensed version, I’m more than happy to do a separate post with a full character analysis going through each major episode and what it says for anyone in the show if you want to see it.
Anyway.
Arthur’s greatest strength and weakness is his goodness and the trust he puts into the people around him so blindly.
In episode 2, he has a conversation with Merlin about Valiant cheating with magic to kill knights. Arthur believes him, albeit cautiously, and Merlin proves him right to do so in the end.
So he knows from the beginning that Merlin is trustworthy and loyal to a fault, but then he starts seeing all the other people in his life believing he’s doing better and opening up to him more. By episode 4, we see Gwen feel comfortable enough to call Arthur out for being ungrateful with Hunnith’s food in Ealdor, we see Morgana repeatedly encouraging Arthur to stand up for what he believes in, even if that belief is different from her own which he absolutely needs and will forever be her greatest act of love for Arthur in my opinion, Uther is slowly becoming less cold towards him too since Merlin came into his life and he started making these changes.
I’ve more to say on Uther, but separate thing.
He loves these people, even if he’d never admit it, so he sees the best in them. Love is blind and all that.
In season 2 episode 8, Merlin chooses Arthur over magic and even Arthur himself when it’s revealed that Uther used magic to conceive an heir. Merlin sets Arthur back in his progress to seeing that magic could be used for good and isn’t inherently evil, but at the same time sets himself up as choosing his side with magic while Arthur has his first betrayal from Uther.
(Arguably from Merlin as well, but one is a young man in a crisis situation, the other was a fully grown adult with all the information available to him and time to think it through before still deciding that a life for a life was worth it)
In that betrayal, that’s the first time that he really has anything negative to say against magic since in his mind, it deceived him and made him almost kill his father. Any hope he has of seeing magic for good is delayed, proven when he tells Merlin he was “confused” and I can’t remember the exact quote but that he’d also lost sight of what was important.
This is set further when Morgana reveals her magic at the same time as she’s revealing that she sides with Morgause, in Arthur’s eyes he just sees that his sister (who is apparently also his biological sister, another betrayal by Uther) has turned to magic and then turned evil. Merlin doesn’t do anything to dissuade this idea other than a few comments of his own guilt about there being people better suited to helping her.
He never questions Merlin on why he believes that because he trusts him so deeply and unconditionally.
If he had, Merlin wouldn’t have needed to confess to Magic. Will in Ealdor could’ve been his excuse for knowing that magic isn’t inherently evil. He could’ve explained that Morgana always had magic, that she was terrified, that he sent her to the Druids to help but Uther would’ve killed them so when Morgause offered her unconditional support and told her that she wasn’t a monster or anything in that vein, of course Morgana latched onto that because it was finally an answer and something hopeful. She did exactly the same thing Merlin did with Arthur, Kilgharrah, and Gaius, and I really can’t blame her for it. Her earlier actions can be justified but from season 4 onwards, there’s only so much I can say to defend her.
But if Arthur would’ve known that, he would’ve been a lot more open to the idea of accepting Morgana’s magic, maybe even learning about it if it meant getting his sister back.
But his blind trust is what gives him this huge disadvantage.
Agravane, a man who’s been completely absent from his life, is immediately given trust because he has a connection to Arthur’s mother. Arthur wants to have a family when his have all either died or betrayed him, so he lets Agravane be his chief advisor and despite several warnings from Gaius and Merlin, he’s still surprised when he’s betrayed by this man he’s never met.
Arthur has this such inherent goodness that the idea of betraying anyone is inconceivable to him. (There’s a joke in there somewhere about Arthur being quite literally inconceivable too)
I’m once again realising how long this post is, I didn’t think it’d get this long so I’m going to wrap it up. If anyone wants more in depth character analysis, please let me know. This is fun.
As for my favourite thing about Merlin and Arthur’s dynamic. Merthur. Basically just the ship stuff and their banter. Also the nuances in their relationship that are fun to read into and analyse but this is already too long so I’m just going to leave it there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The kid was more than content playing with his silver ball as you laid on the bed and waited for Din to talk into your ear.
After about twenty minutes, he finally contacts you. “Hey, pretty girl.”
You melt into the mattress, his voice always does something to you. “Hi.” You press the button on the comm bracelet as you speak into it.
“How’re you and the kid?” He asks, already concerned after being gone for less than half an hour.
“We’re fine. He’s playing with his ball. He’s made it float a couple times but then it falls and I have to pick it up for him.” You respond.
“Hm.” Din just hums.
You lift your head to look at the kid and notice him making the ball levitate just out of his hands before it falls back into his lap.
“He’s getting pretty good at it.” You say into the bracelet.
“I’ve noticed.” Din says back.
“But at the same time, I still don’t understand how this little baby saved you from a mudhorn.” You start wondering about it.
“He’s displayed great amounts of strength with his abilities but it always wears him out. Maybe the ball is just easy practice.”
“Yeah.” You nod to yourself. “What do you see out there?”
“I passed the ship a few minutes ago. I found some footsteps. Following them further into the woods and seeing where they go.” He says back to you.
“Ah. Okay. I think I’m gonna take a shower to help pass the time.”
“Was hoping you’d wait for me.” Din speaks in a deep, gravelly voice. It sends tingles down your spine.
“Oh?” You smirk. “I guess I can wait.”
“Go ahead if you want to… would be nice if you waited, though.” He laughs softly.
“I’ll wait. Showering with you was extremely nice last time.” You hum.
“You did seem to like it.”
Now it’s your turn to laugh, almost embarrassed by your enthusiasm. “Oh and you didn’t?” You tease.
“Sweet girl… you know how much I loved it.” You can hear the smile in his voice.
“Come back. You can look for her tomorrow.” You plead.
“Tempting. It’s getting dark quickly.” He starts.
You knew his helmet probably had night vision anyways which meant, really, he could stay out all night if he wanted to. But you knew he didn’t want to.
“Give me a few minutes. I think I found something.” Din says quickly, quietly.
“Okay. Be careful.” Is the last thing you say before he goes completely silent.
10 minutes pass and you’re more bored than worried.
20 minutes. Okay, might be time to check in soon.
30 minutes. “Din?” You whisper into the bracelet.
He takes a minute. “Yes?”
“Oh good. You’re okay. What did you find?” You ask curiously.
“I’ll be back soon. We’ll talk then.” He speaks in a monotone voice. He doesn’t sound scared or upset. He doesn’t sound happy either.
You decide not to say anything else, letting him keep tracking the Jedi. You look over at the baby again and find him asleep, so you close his floating cradle and lay a blanket over it to let him get a good nights sleep.
Another half hour passes and you hear the door open and shut, Din comes into view.
You sit up straight, looking him over. Okay, no immediately visible wounds. Oh shit. Except for his arm. Between the armor plates was a nasty scrape. It almost looked like a burn.
You stand up and walk over to him, hovering your hand over the abrasion on his left arm. “What happened?”
“I found her. She was… defensive to begin with. But then she let me explain how I’d found her and why.” Din explains.
“Did she do this to you?” You raise a brow, reaching up and slowly pulling his helmet off.
“Yes. Lightsaber.” He sighs in pain as he reaches to start removing his armor. You help him as you continue to ask questions.
“Did she hurt you anywhere else?”
“Just bruised my ego a bit.” Din laughs.
You laugh too. “She a good fighter?”
“Excellent. Yes.” He winces as he bends his arms and takes his shirt off.
“Come on. Sit down.” You push him to get on the bed, holding his arm out and studying it.
“I have some bacta gel. I’ll clean you up.” You smile down at him before pressing your lips to his slightly sweaty forehead.
You walk into the bathroom, grabbing a rag and wetting it, grab the tube of bacta gel from your bag and walk over to Din. You hold his forearm, staring at the gash on his inner elbow.
He takes a deep breath as you bring the rag to his skin, making him suck in air through his teeth.
“I know. I’m sorry.” You say quietly, comforting him as you dab the blood off of his wound. Once it was clean, you apply the cool bacta gel to it and Din sighs with relief.
“Did you still want to shower tonight, ba-“ you stop yourself. “Can- can I call you babe?” You ask, blushing.
“Cyar’ika.” He starts, placing his hands on your hips and looking up at you. “You can call me anything you want.”
You bite your lip as you smile down at him. He smiles back and leans forward to kiss your stomach before leaning his head against it. “Yes, I’d still like to shower tonight. Just give me a few minutes.” He hums against you.
You drape your arms over his shoulders, gently rubbing his back. This goes on for almost 10 minutes and it feels good, intimate, sweet.
“Okay.” He pulls back. “Let’s shower, babygirl.” He squeezes your hips lightly.
You step back and let him get up and lead you into the bathroom, door closing behind you. He turns around to you and makes quick work of your shirt, tossing it on the floor and leaning down to kiss your chest.
You glance at his arm and notice the bacta gel already working. Hopefully the hot water wouldn’t hurt it.
You lean your head back and reach behind yourself to unclasp your bra, pulling it off. He moves his mouth down and sucks a nipple into it, moaning around your soft skin.
“Fuck.” You whisper, one hand tangling in his gorgeous, brown hair.
“That’s the plan.” He mumbles and you laugh at his wit.
He moves back up and kisses your lips for a long moment, wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you into him.
You moan quietly into his mouth, putting your arms around his shoulders for a moment. He reached down to start pulling down your pants and panties, helping you step out of them. You work on his pants and underwear next, getting them off and tossing them aside.
You reach to your left and turn on the shower, Din grabbing your ass while you wait for the water to heat up. You laugh at his antics as you step into the shower under the stream of hot water.
He follows you and closes the shower curtain behind himself before leaning down to kiss you passionately.
You remember suddenly that you’ve barely asked about this Jedi and what the plan was with her. You pull back for a second. “Tell me more about the Jedi.”
“Later, mesh’la.” He smiles and kisses you again, reaching around to grab your ass, making you moan into him.
He pushes his tongue into your mouth gently and swirls it around yours, groaning before kissing you again.
You were content with this, hands on his waist, nails gently digging into his skin to help keep yourself grounded.
“Bend over for me?” He pulls back and asks politely.
You nod and peck his lips one more time before turning around and leaning down. You feel his hands grab your ass and jiggle it a little before one finger is pushing into your pussy.
You moan quietly and hold onto the bar on the shower wall, eyes squeezing shut.
Din starts to thrust his finger in and out, only going for a minute before pushing a second finger into you. He curls them against your g-spot and you cry out his name.
He continues this until your legs start shaking and you’re white knuckling the bar. You try to hold back and you don’t know why.
“Come on, baby. Cum for me.” Din speaks as he kisses your lower back and keeps fingering you.
“Oh, fuck.” You whine in defeat as your orgasm hits you, making your eyes roll back in your head. You’re breathing hard as you come down from it, whimpering when he pulls his fingers out of you.
They’re suddenly replaced with his cock and you can’t help but moan for him. You squeeze around him, trying to make him feel how much you wanted him.
Din begins thrusting immediately, pulling out and pushing back in at 2 second intervals. It made you dizzy.
He starts speeding up as he gets more sensitive, dick throbbing inside of you. He grabs your hips with force, pressing his fingertips into you as he holds onto you.
He starts fucking you harder, hips slapping against your ass. “F- fuck… love you, sweet girl.” Din stutters.
“Love you, t- too.” You say back brokenly.
“I’m so close.” He groans as his hips start faltering. He keeps slamming into you, cumming hard and filling you up. It’s the last thing you need and you’re orgasming again, squeezing around him and milking his cock.
“Ahh, fuck.” Din curses, hips slowly coming to a stop. He pulls out of you after a few moments, trying to keep himself balanced.
He grabs your shoulders and brings you to stand up and turn around before his lips are on yours. You kiss him back earnestly, hands on his chest.
He cleans you up with a soapy rag before helping you rinse off. You do the same for him.
The shower gets shut off and you both step out and get dry with the scratchy towels provided by the inn. You don’t mind. You just like feeling blissed out and clean.
You go back into the room and crawl into bed, Din following closely behind.
You two face each other, getting as close as possible and tangling your legs together. He kisses your nose sweetly.
“Goodnight.” You grin at him.
He smiles back as you both close your eyes. “Goodnight, cyar’ika.”
Chapter 1
---
Azriel’s pov:
Azriel sat in a large chair, accommodating his wings, in Rhys and Fayre’s house. He didn’t want to go back to the house of wind and face Cassian and Nesta. Not until he had Y/N by his side. The couple wasn’t at home anyway. They had gone out, taking Nyx for a walk around the city. Azriel’s shadows curled around his arms and neck. Comforting him as he sat in silence. Only one more hour and he would go to pick her up.
Although, the bond hadn’t been accepted yet, sleeping with Y/N last night had brought out the possessive territories that the bond holds over a male. Cassian had known this morning. He saw it on Azriel’s face as soon as he even glanced at Y/N. He couldn’t help it, the fury he felt when another male looked her way. Even if it was Cassian. He needed the fight to cool off, and better with Cassian then some random fae on the street. At least Cassian could hold his own.
They both fought hard. Pummelling each other into the ground. The mating bond somehow giving Azriel even more endurance and force behind each movement. Cassian gave his best in return. The only thing stopping them from brutally injuring the other is how skilled they both were in defence. There endurance could only last so long, before Azriel came out of the bonds haze. Cassian had landed one last punch to his stomach, knocking the wind right out of him for good measure. He didn’t expect that when he returned, Y/N would be nowhere to be seen. Azriel scanned each of the females faces but she was gone.
“Y/N isn’t here” Nesta quietly informed him. She stood up tall, but he could smell the guilt on her.
“Where is she?” he asked calmly, although his head was spinning.
“I’m sorry Az. I thought she knew. I smelt you on her this morning and Elain had told me about you finding your mate” she paused. “I told her about the mating bond”. Azriel growled, his face turning into a scowl. Cassian stood in between his mate and him, blocking her from any uncharacteristic attacks. Azriel didn’t even give himself time to think. He knew the only place Y/N would go. So, he took off without a word and headed for the bakery.
He twirled a small glass of Rhys’ best whiskey around in a tumbler before taking a long sip. Azriel very rarely felt nervous but waiting for Y/N felt like a lifetime. He didn’t care if she needed space to process. He would wait another century if she needed it. It was what she had said earlier that day that stuck with him. The question scraping along his mind like a sharp dagger.
‘Do you think I am a monster?’
She had said no. But he knew the truth. He knew all the things he had done in his life. He was the High lords spymaster, of course he had done terrible things. Unspeakable things. When the mating bond snapped into place he was terrified. He had longed for it, for someone to love who could love him in return. Especially after seeing his two brothers so damn happy. But how could someone love him after everything he had done?
How could Y/N love him if she knew? She had been through enough in her childhood, like he had but if she ever knew that he inflicted that pain on others…..how could she love that? He wouldn’t blame her if she didn’t. Azriel had been able to feel her emotions all day. She felt a mixture of everything at first and then just pure fear. He told himself to ignore it, that at the end of the day they would talk and work things out.
Azriel took a long deep breath before finishing his glass of whiskey. It was time to go and see her. He brushed himself off as he disappeared into the shadows.
~~
He arrived at the bakery window. Surprised to see the light was still on and the door unlocked, it was way past closing time and Y/N was usually very punctual when it came to closing. Azriel stepped into the empty shop.
“Y/N” he called out but there wasn’t a reply. Everything looked to be in place apart from a few coins that were spread across the shop floor. “Y/N” he called again. He pushed down the slight panic creeping up through him and decided to go to her apartment upstairs.
The apartment was empty. He checked every room, including the cleaning cupboard. Now he knew something was wrong. Y/N never left the shop unless the door was locked. It was the one thing that Azriel found amusing about the night of the attack. The window was completely smashed in, but she still locked the doors.
He called out through the bond, pulling on it. If she didn’t want to see him that was fine, but he needed to know she was safe. There was no answer. Azriel clenched his fists trying to steady his mind but it was too late. His shadows exploded as his mind screamed out.
‘Azriel, what is it?’ Rhys’ voice appeared in his head.
‘Y/N is missing’ Azriel thundered back.
Not a second later Rhys winnowed into the shop. His violet eyes scanning the shop floor. “Are you sure she hasn’t just gone out?”
“Do you think I would call you here if I thought that?” Azriel had to stop himself from lashing out at his high lord. It took all his strength to stand in one place.
“Cassian hasn’t seen her” Rhys confirmed. “We will find her, Az” he tentatively placed a hand on Azriel’s shoulder. He had barely even made contact when Azriel snapped up and grabbed Rhys’ wrist, baring his teeth.
“If someone has harmed her” he growled. A deep threatening, deathlike growl. “I will kill them……slowly”.
“I understand” Rhys’ violet eyes met his hazel ones. “More then anything, I understand. But Az, you need to tell me. Is there anyone that would have taken Y/N?”.
Azriel’s blood turned cold. “No one from Velaris” he finally let go of Rhys’ wrist. “Has anyone from the Court of Nightmares been here today?”.
Rhys’ eyes widened “Tell me everything”.
~~
Y/N pov:
Your eyes blinked open slowly. There was a pounding in your head and some warm liquid was running down your face. Blood. You could smell it as you let your eyes adjust to the dim light in the room. The room was empty apart from you and the chains. The chains that bound at your wrists and connected to the hinge on the wall.
The only noise was the dripping on the damp, cold walls. It smelt like death in this room and it was emanating from you. You swallowed hard but your dry throat struggled against you. The last thing you remember is seeing your brother, then next thing you woke up here. At least you were still alive.
How long had you been knocked out? You attempted to squeeze your hands through the bound chains but it was useless. The pounding on your head grew with each movement you made. The moist air made it uncomfortable to breath as you slumped on the ground. You needed to find a way out, somehow.
Footsteps approached the door. You pushed yourself as close to the wall as you could get but there was no hiding in this empty room. The door swung open with such force, it shook the whole room. It was like looking back in time. The man before you had grown but he still wore the same features he had when he was just a boy. His dark hair covered his brow as his piercing blue eyes found yours.
“Your awake” he snarled as he closed the door behind him. “Finally”.
“Jasker” you voice barely croaked out his name.
“More to the point you are alive. After all these years, I thought you were dead. What about mother? Is she out there somewhere too?” he leant against the wall opposite where you were sat. His arms crossed over his chest as he assessed you.
“No” was all you managed to say.
“I saw the picture of you and her in your apartment” he growled. “Either you are lying, or she hasn’t been dead long”.
“She died in the attack on Velaris a couple of years ago” you spat at him.
“Ahh” he bowed his head for a second. He pulled a small dagger from a sheath on his belt and flipped it around in his fingers. Assessing the blade.
“Why are you doing this?” your voice was shaky.
“Doing what? I haven’t done anything to you……yet” he smirked.
“After all these years. Could you not just leave me to live my life without your abuse” you stood up, pulling hard on the chains but they didn’t budge.
“What? Let you live in peace while you and mother abandoned me to a life in the Hewn City” he stepped closer to you, towering over you but you didn’t back away. You wouldn’t let him see the fear that was shaking you to your very core.
“Father left us both on the street to die” you screamed.
“You don’t think he’s done the same to me” Jasker spat back. “I’ve been left to die more time than I could count. I was nineteen when you left. I thought you were both dead. Imagine my surprise when I saw you in a bakery in some hidden city. Older but still you. Alive. What? You and mother just decided to leave me with the monster who tried to kill you. Did you even think about me after you left?”.
You fought to hold back the tears. “You were just as bad as him” you hissed. Anger raging through you at the memories of your childhood.
“I was a child. A child who tormented his little sister. A child who went through the same abuse as you, but no one saved me” his eyes darkened as they looked down at you. Your throat tightened as you stared up at the boy you used to know. Everything he went through had shaped him into this.
“Jasker – I…” you were cut off as the door swung open once more. You looked, as the face that haunted your nightmares stared back at you. He looked exactly how you remembered him.
His dark hair matched his almost black eyes. He wasn’t as tall as your brother but he was broad. A small, rough beard grew over his jaw. The male strode in through the door, his outfit was pristine, but you could already smell the alcohol on his breath.
“I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t seen for myself”. You shuddered at the sound of his voice. “Y/N, welcome back home” your father smiled. His teeth bared like the devil himself.
Your voice failed you. You had nightmares about this moment. They would wake you from your sleep in a cold sweated panic. But this was no longer a dream, your father and brother both stood before you. You were helpless, tied down by chains. The room you stood in now came into focus. It was your old bedroom, back at the Hewn City. You had prayed to the mother to never set your eyes on these walls again but here you were.
You closed your eyes, hoping that you had just fallen asleep. Hoping you would wake up and Azriel would be there, pulling you tightly to his chest. You opened your eyes, but you were still in your worst nightmare.
“Let me have a look at you” your father stood over you. Looking at you up and down. He then took a cold, spindled finger and ran it across the scar on your neck. Pain surged through you as his talon like fingers traced the jiggered line.
Your body moved on muscle memory alone. Your leg swept round in one quick unexpected movement. Knocking your father to the floor, his head cracking on the hard surface. Within the second you were on him, striking him with everything you had. You landed punches to his head, cracking his nose and jaw. The added weight of the chains helping to break bones.
Something struck you hard in the chest and you fell backwards onto the ground. The wind was knocked out of you. Catching your breath, you sat up, watching as your brother pulled your father out of your reach. The only reason you had managed to strike so many blows was because you had surprised him. You knew that no matter how strong you were now, you were nothing in compared to your brother.
You launched forward one last time, anger and fear egging you on. Your arms snagged backwards, nearly knocking you off balance as the chains wrapped round your wrist reached its length. They were just out of reach.
“He won’t forget this” Jasker snarled as he dragged your unconscious farther from the room.
“I hope not” you snarled as he closed the door and left you alone.
~~
Azriel pov:
It had been a whole day since Y/N had gone missing. Azriel hadn’t slept at all. There was no sign of her and no matter how much Azriel pushed, Rhys refused to storm the Hewn City.
“We have to be clever about this. I have sent word to Kier that we will be visiting tonight” Rhys informed him calmly.
“Rhys is right Azriel. You will wage war in our own court if you just storm in and knock everyone down in your path” Fayre patted him lightly on the shoulder. “We will get her back” she smiled sweetly.
“And what’s the plan when we get there?” Cassian leaned his two knuckles on Rhys’ desk. “We can’t just raid every room in the city”.
“If Az is right and someone from the city has taken Y/N then Kier won’t stand for it” Rhys rubbed his temples.
“You are trusting Kier with this?” Mor furrowed her brows.
“That’s not what I’m saying” Rhys reassured her. “Whoever took her won’t know her connections to us. Once they realise, they won’t be stupid enough to keep her. Kier knows far better then anyone the consequences of crossing us”.
“And what if that doesn’t work?” Azriel growled. “What then Rhys?”.
“She is your mate Azriel. You will be able to feel her” Rhys looked at Azriel, sorrow in his eyes. Azriel hated that look. The way they were all looking at him. Like she was already dead.
“I can barely feel her now” he clenched is jaw. He didn’t know how much more of this he could take. They all sat in a comfy office while Y/N was mother knows where, probably getting hurt.
“Don’t think like that” Cassian pulled his attention away from his thoughts. “It’ll drive you mad. Trust me, I know”
Azriel felt his whole body tensing, no matter how much he tried to clear his head, it roared at him to move. To do something, to find Y/N. He was going to be sick. His blood ran cold as the group around him strategized the night. While Azriel thought about what he was going to do to the culprits behind this. How he would kill them.
“So Mor, Cassian, Az and I will go” Rhys confirmed. “Meet back here in an hour” he dismissed the group but Azriel didn’t budge. Where would he go? The hour was going to be torcher. So, he stayed planted in his seat while the others left the room. “Azriel, I know what you are going through” Rhys began when there was just the two of them left.
“Don’t” Azriel clenched his teeth. “I don’t care right now about what you or Cassian or anybody has gone through. You got them back. I haven’t gotten Y/N back and until I do you can’t tell me what I am going through” his deathly voice gritted. He gripped the arms of the chair so hard, the whites of his knuckled showed.
“I will do everything in my power to get her back” Rhys promised.
“I know” Azriel blinked. He trusted Rhys and he knew that he would do anything to help him but the fear Azriel felt was clouding his judgment. Every second that went by could be the fatal blow.
The hour had past dangerously slow. Azriel’s shadows were the only thing keeping him from erupting. They closed around his body, soothingly whispering to him. He now stood in the foyer of the house. Waiting for everyone to be ready.
Mor was going to winnow Cassian while Rhys and Azriel winnowed themselves. Mor went first, making sure that Azriel didn’t get there first and loose all sense of control. Azriel followed behind, wrapping himself in his shadows. The world suddenly turned to black, shadows curling around him until his feet hit solid ground. He stepped into the dim light of the Hewn City. Azriel hated this place, almost as much as he hated Windhaven. His feet began moving as his chest heaved, he could feel her. A solid hand grabbed his arm pulling him back.
“Don’t loose your head” Cassian warned.
“When have I ever done that?” Azriel growled, plastering his unreadable mask over his features. Rhys emerged from his own darkness, his violet eyes taking in the dimly lit hallway.
“Let’s move. Stay behind me” he directed the last order to Azriel. He nodded once and followed closely behind his high lord.
They moved calmly through the hallway into the crowded throne room. Rhys didn’t so much as lift a finger and the whole room flooded with the feeling of his power. The room fell silent as Rhys moved through the room. Everyone bowed down to him as he approached his throne at the front of the room.
Azriel, Cassian and Mor flanked him as he sat on his hauntingly beautiful throne. Azriel looked out over the crowd. Each one a cowardly snake in his eyes. He clenched his fists as he felt down the bond. Pleading to the mother to feel her reach back for him.
“Rise” Rhys instructed, and the room rose from their bows. Kier stepped forward addressing Rhysand directly.
“What do we owe the pleasure of your presence this evening Rhysand? It’s not the holidays yet” Kier sneered. He knew just how to play this game of cat and mouse. Thankfully, so did Rhys.
“A girl was taken from Velaris during your last visit Kier. Return her. Now.” Rhys demanded. No threats needed as his power pulsed around the room.
“You are accusing my people of kidnapping a girl” Kier’s eyes narrowed.
“It is not an accusation Kier” Rhys casually picked a piece of invisible lint from his jacket. “I can feel her here”. Azriel could sense the lie but Kier didn’t know the extent of Rhys’ power. “If she is not returned before I get bored, I will send my men in. The fae who stole her will deal with the consequences of my Shadowsinger. Anyone who stands in their way will also be delt with accordingly. Do you understand?” Rhys’ tone was that of someone incredibly bored. The face he always put on when visiting the Hewn City. But his violet eyes burnt through Kier with violent intent.
NaRae fell asleep two hours after you got there, she’d explained in detail how she was taking her regular route home, your parents house not being too far from her own to make the commute on foot when she was pushed against a wall on a dingy slip road and had the pictures snatched from her bag.
You’d reassured her that you weren’t mad, not at her anyway. It was a difficult situation and if anything you were truly angry with whoever was doing this. You couldn’t let the attack on Narae go amiss but there wasn’t much that could be done as of right now. Involving the police would only bring unwanted attention to the situation, it could jeopardise your job, your career, NaRae, and your parents not to mention the members themselves.
It would be a lie to say you’d slept well, the entire night you’d sat up, watching out of your window trying to piece together who was doing this, if it truly was a random fan how would they know about Jung-woo?
You shivered at the thought of it being him, although NaRae seemed to think it wasn’t, not believing the man brave enough to risk more jail time by breaching his restraining order. You’d quickly busied yourself with writing whatever you could, admittedly it wasn’t much, but you wanted to distract yourself, unable to sleep and thinking about the worst thing that ever happened to you certainly wasn’t something you wanted to do.
The hours passed quickly and soon enough you were dabbing concealer under your eyes trying to cover the bags forming from your restless night. The taxi ride was a quick one, traffic being clear.
In all honesty, everything was quite a blur, you had texted NaRae continuously all morning even sending her a food delivery gift card so she could buy herself breakfast. A sickening ball of guilt pooled in your stomach at the thought of someone you loved being hurt because of you.
You force yourself to will the thoughts away when you see Hoseok and Yoongi standing in the lobby, talking to the receptionist.
They both greeted you as you joined them, the receptionist's face going from happy to sour at the sight of you. Clearly, someone was jealous. Hoseok seemed to notice and dropped the smile he had worn with her, visibly irritated by the disgusted looks she shot you as she checked you in.
“How are you?” You asked them both as you walked to the elevator, waiting for the people inside to leave before the three of you entered the empty space.
“I’m good.” Yoongi nodded, he was always short-spoken but never rude and you appreciated that.
“I’m okay.” Hoseok seemed happier today, the stress he had been exhibiting the past few days seemed to have lessened. “Going with Hyung now to finish a song.”
“That’s good.” You were genuinely happy to hear everything coming together nicely. “What’s-“
Thud.
A screeching noise had all three of you covering your ears with your hands, your ID card and phone falling to the floor as the elevator shook.
“What’s happening?” Hoseok asked, his voice shaky.
The screeching noise continued before the elevator dropped, far too fast. It was at that moment you knew something was wrong.
“Lay down on your back right now.” You shouted to them both. “Put your arms over your face.” You followed your own instructions as they did, all three of you cramped lying on your backs in the small space.
The elevator was still falling, everything happening so fast before it abruptly came to a stop, all three of you jolting upwards.
All you could hear for a few seconds, seconds that felt like hours, was the laboured breathing of Yoongi and Hoseok beside you. You felt your own heart thinking against your chest, if you weren’t lying down you’d be shaking.
“Is everyone okay?” Yoongi asked from his position closest to the doors.
You took a moment to think, nothing hurt. “Yeah, I’m okay.”
“I’m fucking terrified.” Hoseok spat out. “I can’t do this Hyung.”
“I know hope-ah, it will be okay. Hyung is going to press the emergency button okay?” Yoongi carefully slid closer to the panel, his body lifting just a little to hit the red “HELP” button.
“What’s wrong?” You nudge Hoseok, genuinely worried about the way the man has his eyes closed shut, the grip on his shirt so tight his knuckles have gone white.
“I have a fear- fear of elevators.” He gasped, chest resting and falling far too fast.
You knew how close he was to having a panic attack, your eye caught Yoongi who too seemed to be aware of the current situation.
Yoongi opened his mouth but the intercom inside the elevator went off, someone talking. “The elevator has malfunctioned, we have called for help they will be here soon. Try not to move much, it may cause it to drop down completely. You’re on floor 5 so do not move, do not stand, a drop from this height could be fatal if you do. ”
“At least someone is coming to help us.” Hoseok muttered out, none of you mentioning the warning of possible death. “Hyung I can’t do this.”
“You can hoba, come on this is nothing compared to some things we have done. Let’s just lay here and talk, try taking deep breaths.” Yoongi was calm, much calmer than you felt considering your current predicament but secretly you were grateful for his ability to remain clear-headed, although you weren’t panicking as much as you were scared.
“YN? You’re quiet are you okay?” Yoongi asked, peeking over Hoseok just a little. You suddenly realised just how small the space truly was when Hoseok also turned his head to look at you, his eyes meeting yours instantly. “Yn?” Hoseok whispered too.
You nodded, forcing a smile as best you could. “I’m okay just scared.”
“The fire department will be here soon.” Hosoek reassured you, putting his own fears to the side to comfort you. “Right Hyung?”
“Yeah, we should distract ourselves, what did you all do yesterday?” Yoongi asked and you bristled at that, you didn’t want to think about the night spent cradling NaRae's face in your lap after helping clean the cuts and scrapes over her face and hands. You couldn’t help but feel sick at the thought that you could die here and NaRae could be hurt again, Your parents could be stalked whoever is doing this clearly knows their address, even if you do live what’s so say they don’t have yours. It was like a bucket of ice-cold water had been dumped over you.
“I need my phone.” You explained, cutting off whoever was talking, you’d apologise later right now you had to text NaRae, warn her, maybe warn your parents, if you died at least they would know. “In the corner by the door, can you reach it Yoongi-ssi?”
“What’s wrong?” Hoseok asked at the same time Yoongi mumbled “Let me see.”
Yoongi could in fact reach the device, pulling it closer with his foot before holding it out to you, the screen had cracked and just your luck it wouldn’t turn on. “Fuck.” You cursed under your breath, tears welling up under your eyes.
“Yn?” Hoseoks's frown deepened at the sound of your sniffles. “Are you hurt?”
“N-no.” You hiccuped, voice barely above a whisper. “We might die.”
“Don’t say that.” Hoseok had a horrified look on his face. “We will get out of here.”
You wanted to agree, to comfort the man who was so clearly scared, even if Yoongi wasn’t showing it you were sure he was scared too but you couldn’t, all you could think about was someone you loved being hurt because of you and you no longer being here to tell them. It was a bad idea to tell anyone, and it was an awful idea to tell the members but they were the only people here, if you died at least one of them may live, and one of them may be able to make sure whoever is stalking and threatening you and those you love won’t actually hurt anyone.
You took a deep breath, preparing for any questions. “I have a stalker and I’m not sure who it is.”
“What?” They both gasped in unison.
Hoseoks hand brushed against yours and without thinking you linked your pinkies together. “I have a stalker, it started with phone calls, yesterday they sent pictures of me with you and the other members to my parents’ house, my friend was there and found them before my parents could but she was attacked on the way home. I spent the day yesterday cleaning her cuts and trying to help her feel safe. They don’t want me around you.”The elevator fell into silence as you give them a moment to process what you’ve said.
“Shit.” Was the first thing that came from Yoongis mouth, you turned to look at Hoseok who had his jaw clenched, was he angry?
“How long?” Hoseok asked, finger tightening around yours. “When did it start?”
“It started with the whole translating thing, basically the whole time I worked here. They knew some personal things, things no one else knows…” You trailed off sparing them the details of the issue of jung-woo. “If something happens here, if I die in here and you live then please tell my parents they have to move. They aren’t safe at home anymore.”
“Don’t say that, don’t say things like that.” Yoongi interjected. “You aren’t going to die, none of us are.”
“Please Yoongi-ssi. I need to know my family will be okay.” You were grateful for Hoseok being between you, the sounds of your tears were embarrassing enough.
“If anything happens, which it won’t, I will personally make sure your parents are safe.” Hoseok looks at you with such a determination it can only be taken as a promise. “Have you gone to the police? Reported it to the company? It could be a sasaeng.”
“No, no I can’t do that. If I do it will just get worse, they said they would tell people personal things if I do. I can figure out who it is, I just need a little time.” You really had no idea where to start looking but you didn’t tell them that, truthfully you felt awful telling them something like this and then swearing them to secrecy but you didn’t see any other options available to you.
“We can’t keep this a secret, YN-ssi. It may be someone who has stalked us, we have had our fair share of encounters. We can help, the company can help.” Yoongi sounded sincere, sounded like he genuinely wanted to help.
You remembered NaRaes’ detailed explanation of the photos. “They have pictures of me inside the building, it must be someone who has access enough to take pictures of me with you all. They have the addresses of those I care about, at this point, I’m unsure if they know my address.”
Yoongi jolts upward, only stopping himself when he remembers where he is. “They have pictures of us.”
“So it could be a staff member.” Hoseok supplies.
Yoongi sighs. “That’s all the more reason to tell management. Who knows what kind of picture they have of us hoba, what if they have pictures of the others? Personal information? Relationship information? We have a lot to lose.”
“Hyung.” Hoseok paused, finally realising just how bad the situation had been. “You really think that?”
“Yes.” Yoongi nodded. “We have to protect ourselves. I’m sorry YN but I can’t sacrifice everyone and everything I care about for you.”
You didn’t say anything, Yoongis's words sounded so bitter, that you hated the way you instantly felt less than them. Of course, what they needed was more important than you, You were never blind to that fact but you hadn’t expected for them to both disregard the danger you and your family plus NaRae would be in if they did.
“We will tell Sejin once we get out. YN can you come? He will need to hear first-hand from you what happened, I know after everything today it’s probably too much but they need to know so they can stop any information about us being released or scandals happening. I promise you we will make sure you don’t get fired, you haven’t done anything anyway as long as you’re honest with him.” Yoongi is lying down once again, out of your eyesight and you are glad he is, otherwise, he may have noticed the sad scowl across your face. You shifted your head enough to look at the wall away, turned enough so Hoseok couldn’t see your frown.
Logically you understood they had more to lose, their image, and their lives could be ruined if someone had caught the wrong conversation. Although you could lose your job it would be nothing compared to the scandal that could happen if someone leaked important information about BTS. It didn’t matter that you had people who were at risk, at least not against important people.
Hoseok went to say something, whatever it was you weren’t entirely sure. A noise outside had you all a little startled before a voice started. “The fire department has arrived, we will begin to remove you now. Stay still until we can get the doors open.”
“Thank Fuck.” Yoongi huffed.
