I should've made this in the first place to go as a reference to my post about Kabru rarely being shown eating (and when he does it, it isn't pleasurable) and linked it somewhere. I didn't feel like I needed to go through every example and based on people's tags I do think everyone gets it ... but I'm compiling this anyway because I find it really interesting from an artistic/writerly standpoint.
Like, Kabru obviously is eating in the abstract sense. But as I said, Kui almost never actually draws him putting food in his mouth. At first I assumed that she was avoiding it to save on space because he needs to be shown talking instead, but as I've looked back, I've noted that she doesn't usually shy away from giving characters speech bubbles even when they're chewing or they have utensils in their mouths. Unless they're Kabru.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This would realistically be the best time to actually show him eating, since it's a normal meat at a normal restaurant, but no. He doesn't actually put food in his mouth in this entire scene. Again: I'm sure he does eat this meal. My point is that I think it's a deliberate choice to keep that off-page, to contrast all the other characters who get to both visibly eat food and enjoy it.
As mentioned, Kabru is only shown drinking wine while his party eats the snacks in chapter 32. I think it's possible to infer that he doesn't actually eat any food here at all.
Tumblr media
The harpy egg omelette bit barely counts as eating lmao we all saw him struggling to even swallow a bite down. Let's move on.
Quick sidebar:
Tumblr media
Are we all going insane over this panel or is it just me? Okay continue.
Tumblr media
Like with the omelette, it gets a checkmark for actually going into his mouth but no checkmark for enjoyment. He hates this. He's being spoon fed bad cake and patronized.
Next:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Literally the worst meal in Dungeon Meshi lmao.
Barometz:
Tumblr media
He does actually eat this. Rare Kabru mastication panel, not clickbait. But it's kind of a sad moment when you remember that he was looking forward to a cultural dish of his mother's- literal comfort food from his childhood- and instead got the weird godless crab-meat-plant that is the barometz. This may be the only time Kabru goes looking for comfort, and he's pointedly denied it.
Next:
Tumblr media
Yeah he isn't drawn eating during this entire scene either. Only drawn holding the food and his utensil.
Tumblr media
As stated: still never shown eating. Deliberately shown getting Mithrun to eat instead. Kabru, the call is coming from inside the goddamn house.
Bavarois is next, and once again it gets a checkmark for actual on-page chewing but as we see, he still hates it and has to concentrate very hard and block out all thoughts of what he's doing in order to swallow it down without making a scene.
Okay. Faligon feast. Kabru does spend days eating for the sake of Laios and Falin! Yay! Caloric fucking intake! Clean plate club!
And yet.
Tumblr media
Literally shown stopping before he can put the food in his mouth.
Tumblr media
Mickbell is so real for this. No one needed to hear a lecture from Senshi more than Kabru.
Anyway. Given how surgically precise Kui is with everything else in this story, I just feel the choice to constantly show Kabru focusing on his worries during mealtimes, instead of drawing him just enjoying food, was purposeful.

Mark Sloan x reader who is best friends with Meredith. They secretly get together a few weeks after he arrives in Seattle. A few months later she starts to feel sick and Meredith asks her if she could be pregnant. She recognizes she might be and takes a test. It comes out positive. She freaks out and Meredith calms her down. Meredith still doesn't know about her and Mark so she keeps begging the reader to tell her who the father is. This goes on for a few days, with a few friends joining in on the questioning. She hasn't told Mark yet though. During one of these conversations, Mark overhears them and drops the files he's holding. He goes to the reader and says “We're having a baby?” with a huge smile on his face. She nods and he hugs and kisses her. Meanwhile, those listening in are completely shocked because nobody saw that coming. Please?

𝘼/𝙣: This was very specific ahah, hope you'll like it anon!
Tumblr media
You rushed into the locker room, hoping you weren't late, luckily they were all still there.
"Where were you?" you have been warmly welcomed by your group.
"I was- I've just- well now I'm here" you took off your shirt starting to get ready, without adding details about your horrible morning.
"Oh the girl has a secret lover" Cristina said. You ignored her. "Maybe Jackson knows something more" she continued.
"What the hell are you saying?" he looked at her confused as he finished getting dressed.
"Wait, Jackson?!" April added in a worried tone.
"Kepner calm down" Lexie said to her.
"Okay stop, there isn't any secret lover anywhere" you said shutting up everyone.
A few minutes later everyone had already left, except Meredith, she was waiting for you. You were sitting on one of the benches staring into space.
"Y/n, are you okay?" the blonde sat next to you putting a hand on your shoulder.
"Umh, yeah..." you stood up to get ready to join the others, but just before you went to the door you stopped feeling the urge to throw up.
"Oh hey" Meredith got up quickly to help you. "Oh my God, are you pregnant?"
"What?" you recovered while she accompanied you to the bathroom to rinse your face.
"So?" Meredith's curious voice interrupted your stillness. You looked at her as if to ask where she was getting at, and a smile appeared on her face. "You're pregnant, aren't you?" she asked again.
Actually you didn't know what to answer her, it could be possible.
"I... don't know..." you said confused.
"Okay, stay here, I'm going to get a test" she rushed out to find one, the hospital definitely had one.
Meanwhile you sat down for a moment. How would Mark react? I mean, you'd been dating for a few months now and no one knew about it, but you had no idea what he would think about the idea of having a baby.
"Okay, here's!" Meredith came back suddenly making you scare. You took the test without thinking twice, anxiety was starting to rise. One day you would have thought about having baby and starting a family, but one day... now it would have been challenging, the residency was already giving you enough stress. But that day had come sooner than you thought, what the test said was clear.
You came out of the bathroom where Meredith was waiting for you.
"Positive?" you answered her by nodding and she jumped up to come towards you.
"Are we happy?" she asked you tried to hold back her excitement.
"I-" anxiety began to take over. "I'm just starting out, how do I handle all this? It's a miracle I can remember my keys when I go out, I don't have the responsibility like a good mother would have!" you were about to freak out.
"Ok, you're panicking, calm down" Meredith made you sit back on the bench. "You will have time for your baby, when you see him he'll become the only thing that matters to you, and well then you will become more responsible too… I hope" you let out a small laugh.
"You're right" you managed to come to your senses, while a huge smile was created on your face. "I'm gonna have a baby!" you exclaimed realizing the situation.
"Yeah!" Meredith literally choked you trying to hug you.
"Wait, so you really have a secret lover?" she asked more curious. You weren't ready to tell her, but you couldn't deny it, because the baby was there and he certainly couldn't have created on his own. "Oh my God is really Jackson?!"
"What? No!" she wouldn't even leave you alone for a second until you told her who the father was. For now you used the excuse of going back to work to get out of the way, but you should have thought of something else in the future. Even if she sooner or later she would find out.
During the day you managed to find a moment for yourself, alone to rest in one of the call rooms, when you then heard the sound of the door opening.
"We had the same idea" you got out of bed having recognized the voice.
"Hey" you approached Mark to kiss him. He smiled at you as he tucked a strand of hair behind your ear.
"You look happy" he told you.
"I am" you kept looking at him smiling. You were so torn between telling him or waiting, but your pager preceded all your thoughts.
"Fuck, I'm sorry I have to..."
"I know" he gave you one last little kiss to greet you, you looked at him one last time before leaving. Yes, you would have waited.
Meanwhile, as these weeks went by, the thing that annoyed you and made difficult to go on the most wasn't the early pregnancy symptoms, but Meredith. God, you didn't think she could get this annoying. She wanted to know at all costs who the father of the baby was, sometimes you just wanted to disappear from the world for this. Yeah well, you would have done the same thing in her side, but it was so frustrating.
"Please Y/n, I won't say to anyone, you can trust me!" at one point you stopped to think about it. She was important to you, your lives depended on each other, telling her wouldn't hurt anyone.
"Okay... I have someone here in this hospital..." you sighed before revealing his name. "It's Mark"
"Mark Sloan?!" she repeated raising her eyebrows almost in shock.
"Yes, Mark and I are having a baby!" you repeated too, still almost incredulous.
"Are we going to have a baby?" you whipped around behind you at hearing her voice as he dropped the file he was holding. This wasn't exactly the moment you wanted him to know, so you looked at him nodding.
"Oh my God Y/n!" he approached you embracing you tightly, even managing to convey to you all the happiness he felt at that moment, then he began to kiss you intensely, not caring about the people who were around there. You wouldn't expected this reaction but you were so happy.
"I love you Y/n" at that moment all those hormones could have made you cry.
"I love you too Mark" you went back to kissing him. Meredith was smiling at you from behind, while everyone was completely paralyzed by the news.
"Y/n's having a baby?"
"Sloan's having a baby??"
"Wait, Mark and Y/n are together?!" Cristina, Lexie, Jackson and April were there wondering and unable to grasp the whole situation.
"Why is no one working in this fucking hospital?" you said confused and annoyed that they found out it too like this.
"Don't care about it, we'll be the best family in the world" he put his hand on your cheek to caress you as your foreheads rested against each other.

I guess I'm on a roll tonight? 3 parts posted so far, I'm not even sure how many parts this will end up with but, um, yeah, i hope you like this one and it's not to heavy to read.
Absolutely none of it's proof-read so yet again it could seem jumbled up or not even make sense but umm I can't sleep and my brain is overthinking at 4 am so this is the result of it :)
Thanks for all the continuous love and support on this so far!
Tumblr media
Waking up in hospital, you think over your thoughts about what happened and wonder if you really did mean to do it?
tw: heavy angst, talks of SH, MH, suicide and death.
Tumblr media
Bright lights and slow repetive beeps followed by the sterile smell of a hospital enrivoment.
That's how you knew it was bad when you woke up.
You really hadn't mean for it to get to that point though, you made the mistake of cutting deeper than you should have and now you have landed yourself in the hospital.
This was definitely not your smartest move you had pulled.
Something tells you it wouldn't be so easy to hide your pain behind a fake smile now.
You felt the wet tears covering your own hand along with the heavy weight of another body practically leaning on you.
"Geez, did somebody die in here or something?" Was the first words you spoke since you had fallen unconcious and of course, it was with your usual cocky teenage atttiude.
Dark humour has always been your go to, you hate to show any type of vulnerability.
"Y/N/N" Leah voice croaks in surprise as she sits bolt up right to look straight at you. "You're awake, finally!" she immediately breaks down into sobs again as she reaches towards you and wraps her arms around you.
"Yeah, I'm awake but there's no need to cry about it" You struck back with the same cocky atittude, that drove your team mates crazy but loved you never the less. "Seriously though, did someone die? Cos' you're crying that much right now that I'm begining to think so" you note, hiding your own pain behind the smile.
Just keep smiling, nobody will ask questions.
Everyone will think you're fine.
"Seriously, Y/N?" Leah is quick to smack you around the back of the head as she's now giving you one of her famous glares, one that you knew all too well. "You scared me to death, you little shit!" she admits, showing her vunerability.
"Ow. Ow-- Hey, you can't hit me, I'm fragile right now" You can't help but pout and hope for sympathy from the older blonde girl.
"Fragile, huh? You seem fine enough to be making jokes" Leah remarks as she continues to glare at you.
"Come on, you know that dark humour is the way to go sometimes Le" You grin at the blonde, who doesn't seem to have the same idea.
See? Totally easy to hide your pain.
Leah just stares at you in disbelief you're really cracking jokes right now, "You're unbelieve sometimes, Y/F/N" she mutters aloud.
"Uh oh, your using my full name, am I in trouble now?" You can't help to continue with your cocky, I don't give a shit attitude never the less you had worried all of your team mates like you did.
"Right now I'm just glad that you're alive," Leah admits as she rewraps her arms around you and squeezes you gently. "But if you ever scare me like that again then we'll be having a very different conversation!" she tells you, sternly.
"Okay" You wince slightly as the tightness of the hug that the blonde was very reluctant to let go off you. "Seriously, Le. I'm fine now, why are you still crying so much?" You ask, confused.
"I'm crying because I... I thought I had really lost you this time" Leah speaks her thoughts aloud as she still holds onto you like you would disappear all over again. "When I found you, like the... like the way I did, I thought you was going to die" she adds in, quietly.
Your own amused smile starts to falter as you glance down at the bandages wrapped around your arm. "I'm sorry... I am really sorry for scaring you like that" You apologise quietly, starting to realise the seriousness of it all.
You must've had all of your team mates so worried and right now you were only acting like a total jackass about it.
"I was so scared" Leah replies as she pulls away from hugging you before she readjusts to move onto the bed beside you. "There was so much blood, Y/N/N. I... I thought when we arrived at the hospital, it would be too late and I'd be saying goodbye to you instead" she explains, swallowing the lump that formed in her throat.
Shit, why did I go and do that? I've made Leah almost have a nervous break down.
How could you be so selfish? You didn't deserve the love you recieved from your team mate.
"I bet the bathrooms' a right bloody mess now then" You can't help the comment that slips out of your mouth.
Once again, dark humour is a key to hiding the reality of pain.
Leah clicks her tongue at your comment, although she can tell exactly what you're doing now.
You had been doing it all this long so easily, it was just that nobody realised it.
"Why didn't you tell me that it was getting bad again?" The blondes' question is something that catches you off guard.
Guilt-striken to hear her words, you found sudden interest with the crisp white sheets currently covering you.
There was a lot of things that you could have said, but would she want to hear any of it?
Nobody can help me with the way I feel,
I'm so tired,
I wanted to relieve the pain, I wanted a way out.
All of the questions racing through your mind, you actually began to wonder if you had cut yourself that deep on purpose? Did your own selfishness overshadow any other feelings inside of you.
The battle with your inner demons was just too much sometimes, you was just so exhausted now.
So, why couldn't you have just been left to die instead?
"What's going on inside your head, Y/N/N?" Leah's next question brought you out of your dark thoughts. "Talk to me, you know that I'm here to listen" she states with a gentle tone of voice.
Although the next words that you speak are nothing that she can be prepared to hear.
"I think... I think I wanted to die, I wanted an out on life" Your voice quivers as you admit the truth to the blonde, finally.
"W... What?" Leah looks at you with a mixture of shock and hurt.
"I'm so tired, Le-- I'm just so fuckin' tired. I... I can't do this anymore" You express your feelings as you feel yourself tearing up.
It was as if Leah hadn't quite regestered the words you had said, or she had but she refused to believe that you actually did want to try and kill yourself.
"The girls all went to get coffee, um I think that all of the girls will be back soon though" The blonde tells you quietly as she wraps her free arm around you and gives you a small smile.
Denial, it was so easy to pretend there wasn't anything to read into with your most recent confession.
"Leah--"
"I bet they'll be happy to know that you're awake now" Leah cut you off as she continues to give you that weary smile, you weren't sure if she was now clutching onto you a bit tighter in fear of you pulling another stunt like you did.
"Leah, didn't you hear me? I said I wanted to die!" You shout loud enough for her to suck in a sharp breath.
"I heard you, Y/N/N-- I heard you, I saw you, I... I was there for it all. I was the one who found you in the bathroom; You was lay in a pool of your own blood while you were slipping in and out of unconciousness" Leah broke her game of where she didn't pretend you as she turned to face you, you had her whole attention now. "I sat there, pressing a god-damn towel against your cuts, praying that you would make it and you... you tell me that you want to die? You don't get to die. You can't, we need you-- Damn it Y/N, I need you! Y... You're my family! So you don't get to tell me you want to die!" she tells you, the shake in her voice so evident that she's close to tears again.
"What? You... You want to die?" Beth broke the tense silence as she has a distraught look on her face.
"Do you really mean that?" Lia questions as her eyes widen in shock.
Neither you or Leah realise that some of the older girls had made their way back to your room, when they arrived they were delighted with the realisation that you were now finally awake after the long 24 hours but that quickly turned into shock and hurt when they heard Leah's words so boldly, that even the patients down the hall probably would've heard.
"I do, I did... I don't know. I'm tired, I can't... I can't keep doing this anymore" You admit out loud for every single one of them to hear.
You hear the blonde beside you suck in another sharp breath as she keeps her arm firmly attached round your shoulder.
The confession is left hanging in the air, leaving a tense feeling and it was suddenly so quiet that in the room that you were certain that you would even be able to hear a pin drop.
Nobody utters a word, a state of shock written across each one of their faces.
"Sometimes sleep isn't enough when it's my soul that's tired" You tell them, leaving them all stood there grief-stricken with the realisation that you really had been struggling for longer than you wanted to admit.

When the raven calls
Tumblr media
Morpheus x Female Reader
You, his raven, die protecting Jessamy while rescuing the Dream Lord. When Morpheus returns to his realm, he mourns your loss, only to find a stranger waiting for him in his throne room. The stranger claims to be you, now in human form. He doesn't understand, but his raven will always watch over him.
{Masterlist}
{Next Chapter}
Notes: This story will follow the series on Netflix. This is separate from my other fic that I wrote. This plot was given to me by @missdreamofendless 💕
Chapter One - Loyal little raven
☆☆☆
You are perched on the steps looking up at your king. Lord Morpheus was about to leave the Dreaming in search of a Rogue nightmare. It was very rare this happened, and he didn't often visit the waking world. There were many dangers in doing so.
However, you knew your king and knew he could handle this. You just wished he would permit you to go with him. You look up at him with your beady raven eyes.
"You are coming back, aren't you?" You ask.
"Why would I not return?"
"I don't know... I just have a bad feeling about this. You know what he's like. Wouldn't it be better if I went with you? Just to keep an eye on things?"
"No. I won't be long. Wait for me here." Morpheus gazes at you. You sigh and nod your head once.
"Fine."
Lucienne looks concerned, too, but doesn't voice it. She stands with her hands clasped together, looking up at him. You fly from the stairs and land on her shoulder.
Lord Morpheus put his helm on. He leaves for the waking world, surrounded by his sand. He's gone just like that.
Lucienne looks at you. "Come join me in the library while we wait."
"Yeah, okay..."
You fly on ahead. You knew Lord Morpheus could more than handle himself, but you're just not sure today was the best day. You've had a bad feeling from the start. Just the terrible thought something would go wrong.
You wanted to be proven wrong.
In an hour or so, you were certain he would return with The Corianthian in tow. All would be well again.
Lucienne took a seat at her desk and began to go through her books. You landed on the edge and decided to help the best you could. Jessamy even came by to help, too. Lucienne was adamant about keeping you both busy until Dream's return. She was good like that.
So good, in fact, that several hours passed before you were done. It was only when the last book was on the shelf that you realised a whole day passed and your king had yet to make an appearance.
Lucienne realised too.
"Why hasn't he come back yet?" You ask, looking up at her.
"I don't know. I'll go search for him."
"I'm coming too."
Lucienne knows there is little sense in arguing with you. With you flying over her, she makes her way around the palace. She asks residents and staff if they have seen any sign of their king. No one had an affirmative response.
The fact that if he had returned and not immediately came in search for you was the biggest worry. Lucienne knew you were his most trusted confidant.
You were very clearly worried about him. She could hear Jessamy trying to come up with reasons why he may be late. They weren't helping much, but you also didn't seem to mind her doing so.
The throne room is the last place you both check. By then, you have lost all hope. You land on his throne. The librarian can see from your behaviour how dejected you are.
"I'm sure he's fine."
Her reassurance is appreciated, but not quite enough to cheer you up. Your king was still gone and worry had settled within your feathers.
All you could do was wait.
☆☆☆
Days turned into weeks. Weeks turned into months. Months turned into years. Lord Morpheus had not returned to his kingdom. The residents of the Dreaming had become divided by his disappearance. A majority of them left, either to search for their lost king, or because they believed he had abandoned them.
You never thought such a thing. He would not abandon his home, his people, his responsibility. He took pride in being the dream lord.
You waited every single day.
The mkre time that passed, the more you wondered what coukd have happened. Something had clearly gone very wrong. Had The Corianthian hurt him? No. Despite being a nightmare who ran away, you didn't believe he would be Dream's demise.
"Where are you, sir?" You curl up in your wings, just wanting him to be safe.
Sleepy sickness set in among the mortals. Some either could no longer sleep or would not wake up from sleeping. They were suffering now that the Sandman was gone.
Lucienne stayed in the Dreaming. She was loyal as anything. Jessamy also stayed, wishing her beloved king would return.
Then there was you. You would never abandon your beloved Dreaming. Your home was here. All the centuries spent serving Lord Morpheus meant more to you than anything. You were his loyal raven.
Sleep eluded you. You could not rest without his presence in the kingdom. Lucienne had noticed from the day he disappeared that you could no longer sleep. She worried about you. Most of your days were spent in the throne room waiting.
Jessamy would do daily tours around the now crumbling kingdom to search for any signs he might be back. So far, nothing.
Your hope was dwindling.
A few more years pass, and there is still no sign of him. You had been badly affected by his absence. Lucienne was even more worried about you. The bond you shared with Lord Morpheus was much more than just two companions working together. There was clearly an invisible bond that tied you both together, and it was breaking the longer he was gone.
Jessamy started to visit the waking world. Lucienne wasn't so sure about letting her go, but she eventually caved in. Jessamy was doing this for your sake. She was worried about you too.
For the longest time, she came back with no news. Then, one day, in England, she caught wind of an interesting conversation. A supposed demon trapped in a basement.
Rodrick Burgess. A magic user, apparently. Insanely rich and powerful. Jessamy had gone to investigate where he lived.
She could feel him. She could feel Lord Morpheus close by. She had never flown home so fast before. She immediately went to Lucienne, who no longer had a library. It had vanished over the years along with most of the Dreaming.
"Lucienne! Lucienne!"
The librarian looks up and sees Jessamy flying in at high speeds. She goes in for a landing and stumbles. She's too excited to slow down right now.
"I've found him!"
"What?" Lucienne looks at the raven in confusion. Her mind went straight to her finding something on their king, but that can't possibly be true.
"I've found him!" Jessamy says, her voice full of hope.
"You have found the Dream lord?"
"Yes!" Jessamy flaps her wings.
"Are you certain?"
"Absolutely certain. I felt him. He's being trapped in a basement under a manorhouse." Jessamy explains.
Lucienne looks up. "We must tell her."
Jessamy nods her little head and takes flight again. She flies right toward the throne room. Lucienne does her best to keep up with the raven.
The throne room doors open, and Jessamy flies in, heading right for the throne. You lift your head to look at her as she comes over. She seems happy.
"I've found him!" She tells you.
You stare at her. Lucienne approaches the stairs and looks up at you. "Jessamy believes she has found Lord Morpheus."
You look back at Jessamy, who nods at you. "He's being kept prisoner."
You stand up and stretch your wings. "Then what are we waiting for?"
"Are you sure you wish to go?" Lucienne asks.
"At the very least, I need to know where he is. Jessamy can come with me. If we can free him, we shall."
"Very well. Return soon. I do want to lose either of you as well."
Both you and Jessamy nod and take flight. You follow her. Lucienne watches you both go, wishing that all goes well.
☆☆☆
You land in the tree with Jessamy and look down at the fancy house. It's huge. Clearly, this Rodrick Burgess is wealthy. However, you hate the man with a passion.
Just like Jessamy could, you sense the presence of your king. He is here. You are certain it is him. You try and seek that connection you share with him, but it's weak. Still, you hope he felt you trying to get through to him.
"He's definitely here." You say.
"Yes. I'm certain of it."
"What do you know of this house?"
"Not a lot. Many people come and go. There are guards everywhere. However, I think if we can get inside, we can definitely work out a plan and get in there. I am certain he is being kept below the house."
"So we just need to find a way to him." You take a good look at the house.
"Should we go back and make a plan with Lucienne?" Jessamy asks.
"No." You look at the door of the house. "If he's here, I want to rescue him as soon as we can. I say we go for it."
"Are you sure?" She asks, uncertainty in her voice.
"I've never been more of anything. We can do this together. Let us go and see what they have done to him."
Jessamy nods and lets you take the lead into the house. You fly down and through the front doors. You find somewhere to land and examine the house.
There aren't that many people inside, it seems. Jesssamy comes up with a plan to start a fire. You watch her fly into the office. She sets the room ablaze. Jessamy rejoins you, and you wait. You follow her gaze to what you assume is the basement door. It's got its own security system. The door opens, and two people come out. Both you and Jessamy instantly fly through it.
The door leads to some dark stairs. You both go in and land on the rungs of the gate inside.
You almost can't believe it.
There he is. Lord Morpheus. He's completely naked and trapped in a class cage. His eyes find yours, and he slowly stands. You feel relief as you see him. You and Jessamy fly over to the glass cage. Morpheus raises his hand to where you fly above him. You would cry if you could.
Jessamy starts tapping into the glass as hard as she can. You realise she's trying to break it. You snap back to reality and join her. Both of you fly into the glass as hard as you can. Dream watches you. If you can break the glass, he can tell you what to do from there.
The sound of a pair of footsteps echoes behind you, and you stop tapping the glass to see a young man with a shotgun. You panic as he aims for Jessamy.
"No!" You gasp. You fly into Jessamy, who loses her balance and tumbles out of the way. The gun goes off.
Dream is left heartbroken at what remains of you. Jessamy gets out of there as fast as she can, leaving her beloved king behind.
There is barely anything left of you on the ground. Morpheus can't tear his eyes away as they fill with tears. There's a deep searing pain in his chest that takes hold of his heart. He kneels down and delicately reaches out as if he could touch your body.
Rodrick orders Alex to dispose of your body, and then he leaves. Morpheus watches as Alex picks up what remains of your body and drops it into a wastepaper bin.
He can't even bury you like you deserve.
Alex looks at Dream and then leaves quietly.
Morpheus curls up in his prison and stares blankly ahead. He won't let his tears fall. Alex Burgess would get what's coming to him. One day.
Morpheus will get his revenge.

Tumblr media
You don't get to planning the demise of a certain wimpy pea faced masked killer as fast as you'd like.
You'd expected Sam to call the rest of the group and discuss details immediately; but that hasn't happened yet.
It's really starting to annoy you, but you can't even move far enough to grab your phone without help; so you relent and figure you'll kill the fucker when you can actually stand.
The only bright side, it seems; is Tara. She hasn't left your side for even a minute during the whole debacle.
She's gotten more comfortable, you can tell. Even gotten so brave as to come sit on the armchair beside yours.
Your anger has simmered down into a calm sea of peace; and you're starting to feel a bit bad for the indifferent way you've been treating her.
It's impossible to say you don't still care for Tara, in fact; you care a lot more than you probably should. The feeling is so overwhelming you can sense it's tendrils wrapping around you; threatening to engulf you whole.
Stupid, stupid feelings.
You tilt your head and look at her now, wonder if she feels the same.
Almost like she can feel your gaze, she turns and cranes her neck at you.
"Do you need anything?" She asks, flipping over the page of the book she was currently reading.
You don't trust your voice to come out as anything but a strangled whimper, so you nod.
She sits up immediately, practically jumping off the piece of furniture.
"Oh thank god! This book is so boring." She huffs, eyes brightening up as she gets closer.
She walks up to you and folds your shirt up, enough to show your wound. She examines it slowly, lips pursed.
"You know...maybe we should take you to a hospital? It doesn't really look any better." She states, staring intently.
You suddenly feel small underneath her intense gaze; and you wiggle a bit.
You weren't exactly at your best, since you'd been practically glued to the couch for days; apart from the occasional shower and a brush of the teeth.
"Tara?" You rasp, making her look at you; worry in her eyes.
"Yeah? You okay?"
You shake your head no, motion for her to come over. She looks downright stressed.
"Why? What's wrong?" She asks, reaching out to touch your face but stopping short, hesitance clear in her expression.
You muster the strength to bring your arm up to grab her hand, lay it down on your chest; intertwined.
"I'm sorry for being such a dick lately." You say, breathe in heavily.
"It was uncool of me. And I was wondering if you...would maybe want to be my girlfriend again?" It comes out as a soft whisper, and you watch as Tara's face changes from worried to unreadable.
Oh god.
"I mean- uh it's just that I think we might be better off as like girlfriends and I didn't really mean what I said before, I was mad you know? But it’s totally fine if you don’t-" She cuts you off with a kiss to your lips, soft and tender.
You melt into it immediately. Her hands fly to cup your cheeks, and yours press against her neck; pulling her closer.
You guys stay like that for a bit until Tara pulls away, breathlessly.
"I'm sorry too. I was being a bitch, and I should've listened to you. I promise I'll be better this time." She says, chewing on her bottom lip.
You pull her down, taking her by surprise and making her stumble and land right on you.
You let out a groan at the contact and peer down at your wound.
She retracts immediately, mumbling a million sorry's.
"It's okay Tar, come on. Come here." You wave with your hands, let her rest her head on your chest.
She doesn't press herself into you in fears that it'll hurt you, and it's the most straining and uncomfortable position she's ever been in; but she doesn't pull away.
"This is like doing a plank." She says, eyes sparkling with amusement.
You shake your head and smirk. Tilt her face up to yours again and kiss her.
"Shut up."
And she does.
-
The sound of your phone ringing is what wakes both you and Tara up. She stirs, then immediately tightens up; like she has a flight or fight response to the sound of it.
Oh wait, she does. You realize dumbly.
"It's okay. Everything's fine, could you just grab me the phone sweetheart?" You murmur, rubbing the top of her head in small circles.
She wearily gets up on her knees and reaches for the phone from the couch. It's too far; and she doesn't want to leave your body for at least 3-5 more business days.
"Woah!" She squeaks, loosing her balance and falling with a loud smack onto the rug.
You can't control the giggle that stumbles from your lips; almost on reflex. You quickly realize your error and shut up.
It's too late; because Tara turns to you, quirking an eyebrow. Then she lets out a giggle too, smiling so wide you can see her dimples.
It's a small moment, but it means everything.
It almost feels like the past few days have never happened and Tara's still freshly your girlfriend. Floating in nothing but love-filled teasing bliss.
She opens her mouth to say something but is interrupted by your phone ringing again.
"Jesus christ they won't stop calling." Tara says, slightly annoyed at the intrusion on your moment.
She hands it over to you without looking at the contact, and you scrunch your eyebrows at the unknown number.
"Hello?" You muse as you bring your phone to your ear, still staring at Tara with a playful smirk.
It falls immediately when you hear the distorted deep voice.
"Hello YN."
Your breath hitches, but you don't want to alarm Tara; so you smile at her reassuringly.
"Hey bro, what up?" You say, with all the nonchalance of talking to a close friend.
"Bro? What the hell are you talking abou-" Ghostface starts, but you cut him off immediately.
"Oh yeah yeah, I'm still in uni. I hope you're not getting into any trouble like you always do?" You continue; pursing your lips.
Maybe you'll just pretend for the rest of the conversation and not tell Tara.
"Oh Yn, you don't even know what kind of trouble I'm about to get you into." He says, tone teasing and taunting.
Your chest tightens up a bit. What does he have on you? He's bluffing, he has to be…right?
"That is so fun, but I kinda have to get back to my amazing girlfriend now; you don't mind if I hang up do you?" You smile, eyes flitting up and down Tara's small frame.
She's sitting, quite adorably, on the floor. Looking up at you with curious but shining eyes.
"Don't you dare hang up or I'm going to split you from groin to ster-" You pull the phone from your ear and press the red button.
"Well that was a little rude." She tuts, scooting closer.
You chuckle.
"Can I help it that my girlfriend is the best-est person in the world and I wanna spend every minute with her?" You ask, nudging her nose with yours.
"Best-est, huh?" She smirks, leaning in impossibly closer.
You're about to lean down and kiss Tara but it twists your wound the wrong way and you hiss.
She brings her hand up to your face and caresses the skin of your cheek.
"You okay?" She asks, brows furrowed.
You're not, and you think it might even be getting worse like she suspected; but you don't tell Tara. Instead you nod your head and give her a tight lipped smile.
She grins, and closes the distance between the two of you. She gets up off the floor and climbs on top of you so you don't have to strain your neck. She does all of this with your lips connected, and you silently marvel at her skill.
"I know you guys just got back together, but can you stop eating each other's faces right now?" Sam interrupts, quite rudely you might add.
Tara pulls away reluctantly and wipes at her mouth. She looks flushed.
"We weren't even doing anything."She mumbles underneath her breath.
"Let them be Sam, I don't think I can take another day of Tara whining about how she's not with YN anymore." Mindy says, waltzing into the room after Sam.
You cock an eyebrow at Tara, but she avoids your eye; blush creeping up her neck.
"Nice job, by the way T." Mindy adds, clicking her tongue and shooting a finger gun at the girl.
You notice the rest of the group behind them, Chad, Ethan, Anika, and some other strange man at the back.
He must see your lingering stare on him because he's moving forward and offering a hand to you.
"Danny." He rasps, mouth turned in a crooked smile.
Okay, kind of hot. You think.
"I'm Sam's..." He trails off, sending a questioning look at the older Carpenter sister.
"Danny's my boyfriend." Sam answers, and out the corner of your eye you see Danny smile a little wider.
That's cute.
"Nice to meet you Danny." You say, shaking his hand eagerly.
"So, we're all here because we need to devise a plan. To catch ghostface, once and for all." Sam says, walking to the front of the living room.
"And what exactly is your plan?" Tara asks, moving beside you and taking your hand in hers.
You notice Sam biting the inside of her cheek as she thinks.
"I'm not sure yet, that's why I all asked you here." She says.
There's a moment of silence as anyone thinks of something to say. You try to think back to your interactions with him.
"We could make a suspect list? I'm sure Mindy has a lot of theories on her mind." You suggest, glancing over at the twin.
"Yes! Thank you for bringing that up YN. Sam, move it's my time to shine." She walks up to Sam, gently nudging the Carpenter to sit on the couch.
"So we all know Ghostface has some sort of beef with all of us, but from the attacks we can assume he hates Tara and YN the most." She starts, hands on her hips.
"We know Ghostface isn't really that strong. Either that or YN is just one hell of a fighter." Mindy says, gesturing to you.
You smile shyly at the heads that turn toward you.
"Can I add something? Back on the balcony, where I got attacked; Ghostface seemed kind of...small." You say, pursing your lips in deep remembrance.
"Like, way shorter than the one that attacked me and Tara on that roof. So I think there might be two." You finish.
Mindy nods, like she was already expecting you to say this.
"It's always been two killers, except for Roman Bridger; kudos to him for ambition."
Chad raises his hand, waiting for Mindy's approval before he speaks. She nods toward him.
"Could we assume the first ghostface was a guy? Because we all saw him, and he looked pretty damn big."
You shake your head in agreement, trying to think back on the night up on the roof. It's sort of hard because all you can remember is Tara kissing you for the first time.
Even after what had happened, you still considered that to be one of the best nights of your life.
What a simp.
"Now! Let's move on to our suspects..." Mindy says faintly, but you're not really focused now. You'd rather daydream about the girl sitting beside you.
The group ends up picking your apartment as the spot for Ghostface's Demise. You'd actually been the one to suggest it yourself, it's relatively big; and didn't have one too many hiding places for him to surprise y'all in.
Tara moves to sit on your lap as you continue to plan. Papers are strewn everywhere, multiple empty coffee cups on the table. You've drawn out a map of the layout, and Sam's made it her personal mission to storyboard the whole attack.
Despite the reason for for your gathering, you can't help but smile a little at everyone huddled together. They look like a real family.
Quiet laughs are occasionally let out, teasing and poking fun about how Ghostface is gonna attack. You sort of enjoy it.
The doorbell rings and catches only yours and Tara's attention. The rest of them are still in heated discussion about whether Ghostface or Voldemort would win in a battle.
It's Voldemort, obviously.
"I'll go get it." Tara whispers, planting a firm peck to your lips and standing up. You nod, let her untangle herself from you.
You sit a bit longer until you start getting antsy. It's been five minutes since Tara went and you’re getting a tad worried.
Has she been kidnapped by Ghostface or something?
She steps into the room now, and you smile at her; breathe out in relief.
You see a tiny envelope in her hands. It's ripped; and she's reading the inside.
"Any mail for me honey?" You ask teasingly, pushing yourself up on the couch slightly.
You don't notice the serious expression on her face till she tilts it up, eyes dark.
She doesn't answer as she strides to you, shoving the paper in your hands; arms crossed. She looks hurt.
"Care to explain?"
You frown, look down at the piece of crumpled paper. It's a DNA test.
At the top of the page it says:
DNA REPORT TEST
(For Personal Knowledge Only)
There's two boxes that fill up the whole paper. You stare at it, mouth agape.
It says:
CHILD (YN)
Alleged Father (Stu Macher)

Hi!!!! So, I changed it around a bit, so it wasn’t exactly like Wasted Years! I hope you still like it! Also, Eddie isn't so grumpy, and reader isn't so sunshiney I don't know what happened I'm sorry. AND it's kinda Halloween themed!
Warnings: cussing, everyones in their thirties, kinda doesn't make sense, panic attack, Eddie is mean to reader and cusses at her (once)
Wordcount: 2k
Fake Fangs
“And I expect you to behave. Both of you,” your dad said, eyes narrowed in the way dads do when they see through your bullshit.
The room was tense. There was an invisible yet heated standoff happening that everyone in the room could feel.
“It’s not me you have to worry about. It’s him,” you shot a glare to Eddie who sat smugly on the recliner in your dads home.
You would think that Eddie would have something better to do with his time than to hang out at his manager's house in his free time. You think that maybe he did it just to torture you.
Eddie had everything in the world, yet he still made a point to bother you.
Your father was taking a well deserved vacation. After nearly ten years of putting up with Corroded Coffin’s shenanigans he was going to the beach on a month-long trip with his new girlfriend. You were happy for him and hoping that he would relax for once.
You dad was a hands-on person, never trusting anyone else to assist him with managing the band. Since there was no one else to watch over Corroded Coffin while he was gone, you were his most trusted person.
You had a career of your own, a business to run too. But all of that was being put on the back burner and into the  hands of trusted assistants and colleagues just so you could babysit a band of men.
“I’m serious. All of you need to act your age or I wont go at all,” your dad demanded, arms crossed in a way that told you he meant business.
You didn’t want your dad to miss his vacation. He had worked so hard for so long. He deserved a break.
“We can behave. I promise.” You sighed, cutting your eyes at Eddie across the room. You were silently begging him to agree.
“We’ll behave. Don’t worry,” Eddie reassured him.
Your dad looked between the two of you a few times, knowing that you were lying but not wanting to cancel the trip he had already paid for.
You smiled as he grabbed the handle of his suitcase and wheeled to the door where his girlfriend was already waiting impatiently in the uber. He opened the door and stepped outside, turning to say one last thing to you before he left.
“Their schedule is on the counter. I left a list of numbers to get in touch with me and anyone else you might need while I’m gone. If you have any questions please call-”
“Yeah, yeah. We’ll be fine. Bye!” Eddie cut your dad off as he got up and shut the door in his face.
You turned wide eyed to Eddie, scrambling for the door handle which Eddie blocked with his body.
“You know if you open that door right now he’ll just come back inside,” Eddie said as he shielded the door.
You groaned, knowing he was right and that the timer had officially started for your babysitting duties.
You got along with the band, you really did. You were twenty when your dad started to manage them, around the same age as the rest of them. They were new on the scene and fresh out of Hawkins, Indiana. Your dad built them up to where they are now.
He took on a fatherly role to them over the years. You would think that that would mean you would be close with them but that didn’t happen. The rest of the guys were okay but the thorn in your side was Eddie Munson.
You had a front row seat to watch him go from a cocky twenty something year old to a super cocky and famous thirty something year old.
You were always butting heads over everything. You thought that maybe Eddie Munson lived to spite you. He had his own, very large, home but he never stayed there. Instead he happened to just show up whenever you were at your dads house. You had no clue how many of your visits had been ruined by him.
“Oh, don’t look so upset to have to work with me,” Eddie cooed with an exaggerated fake pout.
“I am not upset. If I was upset that would mean that I care about working with you. And I don’t,” you said as you grabbed the things your dad left for you and went to head out the door. You didn’t care if you were leaving the band alone there. At this point they all had a damn key to your childhood home.
You still remember the horrible feeling when you walked into Eddie reading your diary in your childhood bedroom that your dad refused to pack up for some reason.
The rest of the band was silent, knowing that if they got into the middle of this then it wouldn’t end well for them.
“Whatever you tell yourself to make yourself feel better, sweetheart,” Eddie called after you as you stomped out the door.
Tumblr media
The night was a disaster.
It was a week and a half into your month-long managing gig and it was already falling apart.
You and Eddie had fought for the past two days over what was written down on the schedule your dad had written for you.
You told him that the schedule said they had to arrive at the interview at seven. Eddie said it was at six thirty.
And then that’s when you started arguing.
You never understood why your dad insisted on doing this all on his own. You were so exhausted already.
It didn’t help that it was the weekend before Halloween and instead of celebrating like you wanted to, you were stuck working. You just wanted a relaxing night, maybe watching some Halloween movies and eating too much candy.
It was supposed to be a Halloween themed interview with the band on a live talk show. Just something small to promote their new album. All the guys were dressed in their respective costumes with Eddie dressed as Dracula, fake sharp teeth in his mouth and fake blood dripping down his chin. In the car he decided to take his finger and drip it in the fake blood, dabbing two little dots on your neck to make it look like he bit.
You rolled your eyes and ignored it as he pressed his pinky into your neck, not giving him a reaction.
You thought you were winning the argument over the start time, since you literally had the schedule in hand that your dad had written out himself. Eddie insisted that you call the studio to double check but you decided not to since you knew you were right.
But that all came crashing down when you fought through LA traffic to get to the studio just to find out the interview was really at six thirty and Eddie had missed it.
Everyone was already on edge from listening to you and Eddie argue in the car all the way here. The rest of the band just turned and silently walked away as Eddie glared at you.
“Don’t give me that look,” you snapped at Eddie, the poor assistant that gave you the bad news stared at you in shock with their clipboard held tightly to their chest.
“I wouldn’t have to give you a look if you just knew how to do your fucking job instead of worrying about being right all of the time,” Eddie yelled, voice echoing off the walls.
Everyone bustling around the backstage area stopped and stared for a moment, all eyes pointed towards the poor person that was at the end of Eddie Munson’s wrath.
Your brain short circuited as you stared up at Eddie. He was red and the face and breathing deeply like he was trying to calm himself down.
Not once in the ten years that you knew him had Eddie ever yelled at you or even raised his voice.
You glanced around the room, seeing all of the stares of the people wanting to get a glimpse of the drama.
You couldn’t take it anymore so you ran.
Your arms started to tingle and your breathing became harder as you stumbled out into the daylight, temporarily becoming blinded by the late sun still shining through the clouds.
You held up a hand, shielding your eyes and bumping into someone. They cursed at you but you didn’t stop until you walked around to a secluded side of the building.
The bricks bit into your back as you leaned against them, trying to get a full breath in. You started to panic more, a hand clutched to your throat willing it to let air through.
You felt so stupid to have let Eddie win and embarrass you in front of all of those people. Your dad would be so disappointed in you when he found out what happened. Even though he wrote down the wrong time it was on you to double check that it was right.
And you didn’t do that because you wanted to prove you were right to Eddie.
The world seemed fuzzier than it had been before and you barely noticed you were fighting your hands being pulled away from your face until you felt the calloused fingers gripping them tightly, squeezing until you let go of the death grip you had on your skin.
“Hey. Breathe,” he commanded, firm yet gentle.
“I-I can’t,” you gasped out, unknowingly listening to his command.
“You’re okay,” he hushed you, “you’re breathing now.”
You gasped a breath in, feeling it fill your lungs completely.
You opened your eyes to see Eddie in front of you. He had ditched the fake teeth somewhere between where you got the bad news and here. He still had the blood on his face and chest, eyes still lined with dark eyeshadow.
He looked pretty like this but you would never be the one to tell him that. You were sure he knew by the way both men and women practically swooned when he walked into the building. You also weren’t telling him how you didn’t like the way that made you feel, but learned to swallow it down over the past ten years that you knew him.
He smiled at you, dark eyes bouncing between yours. He slipped the fake teeth back in his mouth, making his smile grow even wider. You knew it was just to make you laugh, just like you did when you first saw him in them earlier today.
“You look ridiculous,” you choked out with a laugh.
“They hurt my mouth,” he mumbled out, his speech affected by the thick plastic.
“Then take them out,” you sighed as you leaned back against the wall again, closing your eyes for a moment.
“Hey,” he said normally, “stay with me.”
“I am. I’m sorry, Eddie. I should have doubled checked instead of insisting on being right and I-”
“It’s not a big deal. People are gonna buy the album whether we go on that stupid talk show or not,” Eddie interrupted you, ever so humble.
“It’s not about that. I let my Dad down,” you argued.
“Listen, I know for a fact that this isn’t enough to let him down. He moved all of the important stuff to when he gets back from his trip so you wouldn’t have to stress,” he told you, news that you weren’t aware of beforehand.
“Really?”
“Really. You’re not supposed to be stressing right now, you’re supposed to be having fun. We all know that you’re doing the work for two people while running your business. And I’m sorry, okay? I’ve been a pain in your ass for the past few years-”
“Ten years, actually,” you interrupted.
“Right. Ten years. So what do you say? We have a night off now and I think there’s some scary movies calling my name..” Eddie trailed off, walking backwards a few steps as he stared at you expectantly.
“You don’t have any cool celebrity parties you wanna go to tonight?” You asked.
“I’d rather spend the night with my victim instead,” Eddie said as he popped the teeth in his mouth and pointed to the fake bites on your neck.
You rolled your eyes and started to walk to the car without him, waiting for him to catch up.
And when you felt his hand slide into yours on the way there you looked up at him to see another wide smile full of fake fangs.

thinking about kappa with a particularly sensitive reader <3
Tumblr media
600 followers in such a short amount of time is insane, thank you so much!! this is sort of random, but i also think it fits kappa pretty well, and i had sm fun writing it :3. not yet proofread 🫶
💟 nsfw - mdni 💟
warnings: dom!kappa, sub!fem!reader, slapping, rough sex, mocking, degrading (slut, "hole", whore), dacryphilia, oral (fem receiving).
Tumblr media
• sensitivity was never a recurring concern for kappa, so when he finds out you're more fragile than he is.. lord, you'll never catch a break. he loves how you twitch and jerk away at any unannounced touches, how you wince at the lightest of pinches or squeezes, how he can literally feel your skin threaten to give every time he sinks his teeth into your thighs, everything. it's such an incredibly insignificant detail about you, but it turns into his biggest ally when he needs to overpower you.
"what, did that hurt? seriously?"
• he would absolutely use it to his advantage, taking his time to carefully manipulate your keen sense of touch. he'd run his rough fingers across your skin while cooing harmless taunts at you, his lips tugging up at every delicate noise that falls from your bee-stung lips.
"already squirmin' around? i've barely touched you, sugar."
"be good for me, yeah? 'm gonna take care of you.."
• he'd tease you so much, putting you on the verge of tears without even touching you properly. he'd trace his fingers across your ribs, your waist, the curve of your thigh, right along where you need him most.. but never giving you any stimulation. at least, not until you earn it.
"such a greedy little whore, hm?"
"what do you want? use your words, darling."
• he's honestly so mean to you, always mocking or degrading you effortlessly. he's real rough with you, too, knowing damn well you like it even more than he does, even if you won't admit it. he savors every single noise that you make under him, cherishing how whiny and pathetic you sound. don't be surprised if he lands a heavy slap to the side of your face before taunting or scolding you cruelly.
"answer me like a good slut.. aw, none of that, i barely touched you."
"shh, i know what you need."
• you started crying? good, he loves it. he'll kiss away your pained tears to somewhat distract you from him stuffing his cock in your unprepared cunt, ignoring your pained groan. unless you say your safe word, he won't grant you any leniency. he'll fuck you mercilessly, all but using you to chase his own pleasure. he'll grab your jaw so tight (even leaving small marks at times) while he pounds into you, tilting his head just a bit while taking in your disheveled state.
"just a hole f'me, aren't you?"
"quit your whining, you can take it."
• if you catch him in a good mood, he'll utilize your sensitivity in different ways. some nights he'll do nothing but eat you out for hours, taking his time to make you feel so good. that doesn't mean he's not still unfair, because trust me, he is. he'll coax you to your first orgasm or two with faux graciousness, letting you think he'll go easy on you. as soon as you start to feel overstimulated, he'll force your thighs open and go down on you like a man starved, his nose bumping and pressing against your clit while he tongue-fucks you eagerly. he'll push you over the edge over and over until you're sobbing, and won't stop until he's pretty much drunk on your desire. he doesn't care how much you beg, unless that safeword is used you will not catch a break.
"stay still for me, i'm almost done."
"one more, i promise.."
• he'll let up eventually, and don't worry, he doesn't forget to take care of you afterwards. he'll get you whatever you need, do anything you ask, praise you and your performance.. pretty standard aftercare. if you look just a bit past his rough exterior, you'll quickly find that he also loves receiving aftercare. being told he felt good, that you knew he didn't truly mean his aggressive comments, general reassurance, that sort of thing. he especially loves letting you lay on his chest to play with his hair while he lazily rubs his hands up and down your bare back, eventually drifting off to take a nap with you.

A Day in the Life (Buggy the Clown x F!Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: The days are never dull with a baby on board. Pairing: LA!Buggy the Clown x F!Reader Rating: 🌶 Explicit 🌶 Word Count: ~3.2k Warnings: Infants in very mild peril, cunnilingus, PiV sex A/N: daddy buggy my beloved
---
4:41
Keeda’s fussing before the sun’s even up. And then you start fussing as soon as Keeda starts fussing.
“Your kid’s awake,” you grumble into his back.
Buggy has no choice but to fuss back. “Before dawn, he’s your kid.” You nudge him with your foot. He huffs. “I’m comfy, bitch. Get 'im yourself.”
You do not appreciate how comfortable he is. You knee his ass with each word -- not hard enough to hurt, but enough to make your point. “You. Are. A. Chop Chop man.”
...Yeah, alright, that's fair. Detaching his head and arms, he floats himself over to the crib.
Any other child would be concerned if their father’s disembodied head hovered above them, but Keeda’s never known any different. His grumbles turn to happy babbles, his chubby little face lighting up like the moon.
“Mornin’, ya li’l rugrat,” he says with a smile. “Starting on your bullshit early today, huh?”
He slips his hands under the boy’s arms and lifts him up and over to the bed. He's getting heavier, maybe about as much as a decent-sized cannonball. Makes sense, given his parents’ heights.
His parts rejoin the rest of him and he lays back down, placing the baby on his chest. He's still not too big for that, at least.
You roll over — more of an aggressive flop, really — and tuck yourself up under his arm. “Hey, bug.”
"Hi, dear," Buggy replies.
You rest your head on his shoulder as you lay your hand on your son's back, rubbing in small circles. Keeda lets out a happy coo, his little fingers curling as he reaches out to you.
You take his hand and stroke it with your thumb. "Back to sleep, sweet baby," you mumble, already halfway there. "Back to sleep..."
Buggy waits for your breathing to even out and for Keeda to go still before he lays his head against yours.
———
9:03
"Son of a bitch!"
Buggy watches as you pitch the jar of baby food and spoon over the deck railing. "First you wake me up, then you pee on me, and now you won't eat!” You jam your finger into Keeda's face. “Why are you being such a little fucker today?!"
The boy giggles, kicking his legs and smearing his breakfast around. He's got your laugh, but that little hater attitude couldn't have come from anybody but his father.
Buggy's just glad it's not his turn to feed him. "Food's supposed to go in his mouth, ya know."
You flip him off without even looking at him. Keeda waggles his fingers like he's trying to mimic you, but he doesn't quite have the motor control down yet.
“I'm gonna go get a new jar,” you grumble. “Make sure he doesn't spontaneously combust or some shit.”
You slink off without waiting for confirmation. Buggy's not worried. You'll cool off in no time. And he gets to watch your ass as you walk away.
He turns his full attention to Keeda. He picks the boy up into his arms. “You really wanna piss your mom off?” he asks. The boy babbles in what he decides is a yes. “Give her hair a yank. She spent all morning on it and it'll drive her nuts.”
He knows Keeda shouldn't be able to understand him, but there's a sparkle of recognition in those big dark eyes as he reaches a little hand out to touch the hair peeking out from under Buggy’s bandana.
He knows grabby fingers when he sees them. He angles his head away. This does not deter Keeda, but merely changes his target.
And now for the most confusing emotion he's ever had. There's the usual agitation that comes from someone noticing... it... but it's Keeda. He's never mocked it or thought it odd or asked questions. He just thinks his daddy's neat.
He can't help the slight smile as he lets Keeda touch his face.
———
9:50
Richie’s liked Keeda from day one. He’s always smelling him and headbutting him and gently pawing him. Mohji thinks it's because he's trying to scent-mark the kid.
“Should I do something?” Buggy asks quietly.
Mohji shrugs. “He's laughing, isn't he? Richie wouldn't hurt a fly.”
Keeda giggles as Richie presses his nose against his head, gently sniffing. Richie lets out a pleased chuffle as he rubs his whiskers along Keeda’s face.
Mohji crosses his arms. “He doesn't do that to me,” he mutters.
“I’ll dunk you in tuna oil, if you want,” Buggy says. “He'll be all over you.”
“I think I'll pass--” Disgust turns to horror as Mohji blanches. “Oh shit!”
Buggy whirls around. Richie has Keeda in his mouth. Completely in his mouth. Richie is a big lion and Keeda is a small baby.
Panic grips him. He's never actually had to fight a lion before, but it looks like that's what he's gonna have to do. You're gonna kill him anyways, so might as well go out in style--
Richie deposits Keeda at Buggy’s feet. The boy looks no worse for wear, if not a little confused and covered in kitty drool. The overgrown house cat looks very pleased with himself for taking a few years off of Buggy’s life.
Buggy glowers at Mohji. Mohji avoids eye contact and tries to shrink into his hoodie.
———
10:15
Well, after that, baby needs a bath. Fortunately, the giant soup pot in the galley is the perfect size for a little guy like Keeda.
Buggy hums an aimless tune as he rubs the shampoo into Keeda's hair. It's dark and thick like yours -- not to mention long. Kid’s hair grows faster than the rest of him.
He scoops up a fingerful of bubbles, then gently boops Keeda's little nose. The boy’s face scrunches up, and he goes cross-eyed as he grumbles.
An intrusive thought takes root. He chuckles to himself as he smooths Keeda's hair upwards. “Look, babe. Mohawk.”
“Keep the suds out of his eyes,” you warn from the doorway.
He rolls his eyes. “I'm not gonna let him drown, ya know. You don't have to hover.”
You smile that narrow little smile of yours. “I like watching my boys.”
Buggy's chest tightens. How can one expression, one quirk of your lips, one flash of teeth make his stomach backflip? His breath catch? His cheeks burn?
A splash of sudsy water rushes up to hit him in the face. Seems the kid’s discovered volume displacement. He regrets going with a full beat this morning. Between the splashed water and the heat in his cheeks, this makeup is gonna melt right off.
———
12:24
Dropping an ear in Keeda's crib while he napped was a brilliant idea. Amazing, even. Buggy can be off doing Hot Dad Shit but still come running at the first sign of trouble.
And then the baby found it and it became less of a good idea.
"C'mon, give it back." He reaches for the ear, but Keeda shifts just out of reach, clutching it to his chest. Given the boy's grip strength, he can't just yank it out of his hands without ripping cartilage.
Buggy hears Keeda's heartbeat thumping as he slumps against the edge of the crib. "What the hell could you possibly want with an ear?"
Keeda looks him dead in the eyes. Slowly, slowly, slowly, he brings the ear to his mouth.
Buggy has never moved faster in his life. He shoots his hand off and claps it over Keeda's mouth. You were right, he is being a little fucker today.
Keeda's muffled whines catch your attention, and you stick your head into the cabin. "Having trouble, Captain?" you ask with a smirk.
"Your son's being a dick."
The smirk grows into a smile. "He gets it from his father."
———
14:21
As Captain, sometimes one must spring into action and help secure a loose cannon threatening to smash the hull. For that reason, Buggy appreciates his crew’s tolerance of having a baby shoved into their arms at barely a moment’s notice. Alvida, especially. He’s never known her to like kids, let alone infants, but she seems to make an exception for little Keeda. Sometimes he thinks she makes up reasons just to hold him for a bit.
She's smiling a big, cheesy smile at him as he returns from his heroics. The kid gazes up at her with his enormous eyes, returning the grin. Alvida then sticks out her tongue. Keeda does the same. She blows a raspberry, and Keeda giggles.
“Having fun with Auntie ‘Vida?” he asks.
“Time of his life.” She makes an angry face. Keeda's mouth screws up into a grumpy frown. “It's crazy how much he looks like you. Especially considering he doesn't have your--”
Her mouth shuts so hard and so suddenly that her teeth click.
Buggy keeps his voice low and even. “Doesn't have my what?”
Alvida blinks. “Hair. I was gonna say hair.”
...you know what? Acceptable.
“Eh, I'm just glad he's got ten fingers and ten toes.” He ignores the relief on her face as he takes his boy back. “His mom’s prettier anyways.”
———
15:46
You don't need a detached ear to know when your son is crying. Somehow, you know. You can be down in the bilge and you'll hear his whining from the top deck.
"What's going on?" you ask as you come up on deck.
Buggy watches as Keeda flops over onto his belly, thrashing his limbs and wailing. "He's mad because I won't load him into the cannon."
Keeda pauses in his fit as sees you, then lets out a bwuuuuuuuh and continues. He looks very much like a fresh fish as he flails around.
You watch him for a moment, then look at Buggy. A silly little glint sparkles in your eyes, the one that you have when you get a bad idea. The same one he saw during that first kiss you shared together.
“He would fit in a Buggy Ball shell,” he says.
You stare at him a moment longer, then shake your head. “We shouldn't.” Keeda lets out a wail that makes you flinch. “But we could.”
After a few moments, the boy runs out of steam, lying there like a dead bird on a beach and whimpering pathetically.
Buggy scoops him into his arms and brushes the tears away. "Can't load ya up, li'l man, but wanna see it go..." He pops his hands off and splays his fingers in front of Keeda's face, popping them apart at the knuckles. "...ka-boom?"
Keeda's agitation melts away like an ice cube in Hell, replaced with wide-eyed wonder. You take him and sit on a crate, covering his ears. You give Buggy a nod.
He grins. He points at a pair of idling crewmen -- the artillery boys, fortunately. "Ready piece!" he barks. “And make it snappy! My kid’s in the audience!”
Buggy appreciates how they trip over themselves rushing to the cannon. He really is lucky that his crew likes his kid half as much as he does.  Even if they “kidnap” him sometimes and hide him in the crew quarters to dote on him and to stress his parents out.
In moments, the Buggy Ball is loaded, the powder set, and the artillerymen stand at attention, waiting to light the fuse.
He holds his fist up. "Aim!"
The cannon is already in place, but he pauses for dramatic effect. A quick glance at Keeda's wide eyes and your little smile confirms it's working.
He gives you both a little wink  "Fire!"
With a bang and a whistle, the shell flies up into the air. A safe distance away, it explodes into a shower of smoky crimson streaks.
They reflect nicely in your smiling eyes as Keeda squeals in delight.
———
19:02
Buggy sticks his tongue out. "Blah."
Keeda sticks his tongue out. "Blelck."
He puffs his cheeks out. Keeda puffs his cheeks out. He puckers his lips. Keeda puckers his lips.
He opens his mouth. "Ah."
Keeda opens his mouth as wide as he can, showing off his little pink gums. "Ah!"
Buggy jams the spoon in there before Keeda can even react. Blinking in surprise, he swallows, even licking some stray banana mush from his lips.
You watch, slumped across the table with your chin in your hand. "How are you so good at that?"
"Clown to clown communication. Sounds like this." He puts the spoon down and, squishing Keeda's cheeks, affects a croaky voice. "’Feed me. Feed meeee.’"
Your laugh your lovely seagull laugh and his heart flutters like a hummingbird.
———
20:50
“Don’t wake him up,” you warn as you open the door to the main cabin.
"I know, I know." He separates himself at the waist. “Floating, see? Shock absorber.”
Keeda snuffles and twitches. You both freeze, praying that he doesn’t wake up. He does not, and you relax.
You side eye him as he crosses the room, not letting up until he lays the boy down into the crib. You slip Mr Toucan in next to Keeda and pull the blanket up around him.
"Sweet dreams, li’l bug," you say.
"I'm not going to bed yet." You glower at him and he grins. That's never going to get old.
You tiptoe out with him close behind. He leaves his ear on the table, just in case.
The door clicks shut, and you both let out your held breaths. You hold your fist out and he knocks his knuckles against yours.
“Good job this time, Dad,” you say.
“I can be subtle when I want to be.” He drapes his arm around your shoulders. "Y’know, I was thinking..."
The breeze tousles your glossy hair so artfully. "Was wondering where the smoke was coming from."
He pulls you in closer, his hand wandering to the top of your thigh. You've been bitching about baby weight, but to him? You've never looked better. "Was thinking... Wanna make another?"
You give him a smirk that makes his cock twitch. You cross your muscular arms and it turns into a pulse. "Weird way to ask to go bareback."
"No, I mean it,” he says. "He looks like you and I want one that looks like me. Balance it out."
You breathe in sharply. The mischief in your eyes fades, replaced with thoughtfulness. You duck out from under his arm to saunter away. “Sell me on it.”
He follows. “What's cuter than one Keeda? Two Keedas,” he says. “Especially if it's a girl. Built-in double act. And I've got the perfect name for a girl.”
“Yeah?”
He gives you a big stupid grin. “Buggetta.”
You stare at him a moment, then crack a smile and make that glorious, glorious snnnrk noise. “Absolutely not.”
“To the name or to another kid? Because I'm fine with Buggy Junior if it's a boy--”
“Over my dead body we name a kid that.”
"Alright. Fine." He grabs your hips and pushes you against the deck railing. "Guess I'll just fuck you 'til you're knocked up again anyways and we can improvise."
You suck in a breath. Your tongue darts out to lick your lips. He goes in for a kiss, but you duck beneath his arms.
“Catch me and you can do whatever you want with me,” you say before taking off.
He sprints after you.
———
21:24
He wanted to be romantic. He wanted to be cool and suave and sweet for you. You, light of his life and his hard-won prize. You, his partner in crime and mother of his child. You deserve nothing less than the sultriest, slowest, languidest of lovemaking, full of sweet nothings whispered breathlessly into your thighs.
Unfortunately, just looking at you makes his cock leak and if he doesn't strip you down and fill you up as soon as possible, he's gonna make a mess of his last clean pair of underwear.
So that's how you ended up pinned between him and a crate in the cargo hold, moaning like a bitch in heat as he ruts into you. He's lucky you like it like that.
“Harder!” you spit.
He grunts into your shoulder as he snaps his hips. His tongue is busy taste-testing that sweet sweet clit of yours.
You let out a long, guttural groan. “Less talking, more -- ah, ff--!”
He must have hit something nice, because your back arches and your pussy flutters around his cock, squeezing it tight and making him damn near black out.
He hates this stupid condom. Hates it, hates it, hates it. Hates how he can't feel your warmth, your slick, your soft, satin walls as they clench. Hates how he can't fill you up with his cum, painting those lovely walls a pearly, sticky white. Hates how he can't fuck another baby into you.
...unless. Unless he's lucky and it breaks. Or if it's just a piece of cheap shit not worth the paper box it came out of.
Oh yes. Oh, then he'd be lucky. Then he'd get what he wants. He'd get you pregnant. Again. You’d be all soft around the edges and glowing like a full, terracotta moon with hair as glossy as a fresh tube of lipstick.
His hips stutter. Yes yes yes yes yes--!
He grips your hips tight as he thrusts into you, not stopping until his balls are drained and his cock is limp. He flops against you, burying his face in your minty, citrusy, cinnamon-y hair.
“I love you,” he mumbles.
He can hear the smile in your voice. “Love you too, Bugs.”
———
00:57
Sad little whimpers in his ear distract him from his carousing with the crew. You're significantly more fucked up than he is and on round eight of a three-round game of cards, so he slips away without disturbing you.
Keeda is sleeping when he enters his cabin, but the little twitches and whimpers suggest it’s not a restful one.
He tickles the bottom of his foot -- his teeny tiny little foot -- and the boy wakes with a start. He starts to cry, only to falter as he sees his father, his lip quivering and his eyes watering.
Buggy scoops the boy into his arms. “Shh,” he says. “Daddy's here. Don't worry.”
He strokes his fingers through the boy’s hair. Keeda coos like a dove, trying to burrow his face into his chest. Failing in that endeavor, he peers up at Buggy with those enormous eyes.
Somewhere, deep in his heart, Buggy knows that all the treasure in the world couldn't match the feeling of holding his son in his arms. And that all the praise and all the applause would be nothing compared to the way you smile at him like you have a secret to keep.
But why settle for just two people when he could have the adoration of them all?
He sits down on the bed, propped up against the headboard, cradling the boy close. “You're gonna be a prince someday,” he whispers. “A little pirate prince. Daddy’s gonna be king and they’re gonna love you as much as him.”
Keeda exhales heavily, letting out a soft peep as he goes limp. His eyes drift closed.
Buggy is suddenly very aware of how tired he is. He lays back into the pillows. “Go to sleep,” he murmurs. “Go to sleep...”

hi there! if requests are open i wanted to throw on in for Steve (shocker ik). i love how you’ve written him with anxious and/or shy readers. i feel like he would be so attentive to their needs and in tune that he would easily recognise when they’re starting to feel anxious or drift off into their own thoughts/spiralling. hopefully any of that made sense, i’m not great at requesting so i’ve discovered 🥴 but obviously if that’s not something you want to write then disregard this! xoxo ur great
hi! thank you for your request i love the idea that steve knows all your little signs and how to help you manage them
The Indiana state museum has a crazy amount of rocks and crystals. A crazier amount of people, you think, staring at your reflection in the glass case of a display of minerals. They're all different colours, lots of shiny pinks and weathered blues.
"They have a diamond over there, it's not that big. But it's, like, yellow," Steve says, coming up behind you. "There's only a glass box around it. But that makes sense, 'cos, no offense to that diamond, would you want to steal a diamond that colour? It's like p-"
You're trying to listen, he's being his usual lovable dork, but the room is really loud. There's a lot of people. You're not always like this; Steve makes you feel so safe, you're surprised when you start to feel tight chested.
"YN? You're staring a hole through that lapis lazuli." Steve nudges your elbow with his. "Wanna go get something to eat? They have a cafe."
The cafe is quieter but louder in different ways. Steve has sat you down behind a small table, a cup of coffee in front of you both. He's pouring sugar in yours how you like it and babbling about something, looking pretty as he goes. You're not sure what he's saying, only that he's talking, voice free of any stress or frustration. It's nice. He has a soft voice when he's happy.
He pushes your coffee mug towards you. "Drink up, buttercup."
You take a burning sip and smile at him over the rim.
He pushes up his sleeves and reaches across the table with one hand, palm up. You put your hand in his tentatively and he gives it a bone aching squeeze.
"How are you feeling?"
"I feel fine," you say, acting like you're surprised he would even ask.
"Yeah? Better than upstairs?"
Caught. You smile guiltily. "Yeah. Thanks, Steve."
Steve worries at his bottom lip with his eyes pinched up like he doesn't believe you. He turns your wrist over onto the cool table and rubs his thumb over your wrist.
"Don't think too hard, you'll hurt yourself," you tease weakly.
"Are you feeling okay? For real? Don't lie, you're not good at it," he says, though not meanly.
You take him in. It's a sunny day today and he's dressed casually, a pair of dark slacks with a thin belt and a charming sage green sweatshirt under his jacket, sunglasses tucked into the neck.
Your eyes skip over the column of his neck, getting caught on the pronounced line of his jaw.
He tilts his head, forcing you to meet his eyes. He nods encouragingly.
"I feel like I can't breathe right today. Like I'm-" you take a deep breath to show him, hand hovering over your chest, "it's not enough. I thought I was fine, but…"
He nods again. Steve doesn't really need you to tell him when you're feeling this way, he can tell. You imagine he encourages you to tell him so he can do this next part.
"That's okay. Is it hurting?" he asks.
"Not really," or not yet.
Steve smiles brilliantly then as he pulls his chair towards yours, its metal legs screaming across the tile floor. You're still cringing when he wraps your hand up in his and pulls your joined arms towards his chest.
"Can you smell that?" he asks.
You frown, confused, "What?"
He closes his eyes and takes a long inhale through his nose. "I can't tell what it is. That's weird though right? How can you recognise a smell but not know the name? I think it's marzipan or icing or something."
You sniff the air, looking at him out of the corner of your eye. His eyes are still closed, chin held slightly aloft, searching. You close your eyes too hoping it will help, trying to smell the scent that's distracted him.
You don't mean to, but eventually your breathing lines up with Steve's. Big, aching breaths.
"Marzipan…" you ponder. "I don't think so, Stevie."
"Are you sure? I swear, I can smell something. Just," he takes another deep breath.
You realise abruptly that you've been tricked, eyes opening quick and shoulders squaring to look into his calm face.
"Marzipan," you say again, deadpan.
His own eyes open sheepishly. Honeypot brown edged in long, dainty lashes. "You can't smell it?" he asks.
You huff a disgruntled breath through the side of your mouth and flop down into his shoulder, the back of your head pushed into his neck. He quickly follows suit, his cheek squished into your crown.
"How's your chest?" he asks quietly.
You hum rather than answer. Your chest feels better. You'd forgotten the chaos of the cafe in your bid to discover the origins of his mystery smell – his trick was a good one.
"Coffee's getting cold," he tries.
"I feel better," you admit grudgingly. Then, less so, "Thank you."
"For what?" he asks. The kiss he leaves in your hair says you're welcome.

Don't worry darling
Pairing: Jenna Ortega X Fem!Reader
Word count: 2.41k
Summary: You have a surprise for Jenna's birthday, but soon your plan falls apart.
I've written this while being sick so I'm sorry if it doesn't make a lot of sense. Like always, if you see a mistake, please let me know.
You walk to the entrance of Wednesday’s set with a huge smile, going through your plan in your head. Today is Jenna’s birthday and you’re so excited about it. You greet your teammates while you go to the dressing room, where you spot Jenna’s bag on the corner. Making sure the room is empty, you walk to it and stick a little note inside, before leaving your own bag and walking out.
You see Jenna and the rest of the cast chatting in one of the lounge areas. You’re walking to them with the idea of saying happy birthday to your girlfriend but Tim stops you midway. “I need to go through one of the scenes with you, we’ve made some changes.” You slump a little, bummed that you won’t be able to talk with Jenna before starting to work, but you nod and follow him nevertheless.
You spend the next few hours running around the set, shooting your scenes and changing outfits when it’s necessary. By the time you finally have a reprieve, it’s almost lunchtime. You’re a little disappointed. You knew today was going to be a very busy day and you wouldn’t have any scenes with Jenna, so you wouldn’t be able to talk with her until work was finished. But, you thought at least you could be with her a little before starting.
You look around, trying to find Jenna, knowing that she should have finished shooting her scenes by now too. You don’t see her, but you do see her parents and her sister Mia waiting at the entrance. A smile forms on your lips. Jenna told you how much she’s been missing her family and how she wished she could spend her birthday with them. You wait in your spot, wanting to see Jenna’s reaction when she sees them. As you expected, Jenna immediately runs to them with a happy expression. They exchange hugs and a few words before you hear her dad saying they had a reservation in her favourite restaurant for lunch.
Your face falls a little after hearing that, your plan falling apart.
You and Jenna started dating a couple of months ago but no one knew about your relationship yet. You’re Jenna’s first girlfriend, so when you started dating she asked you for a little time for her to come out. You obviously agreed, knowing how hard it can be, especially being actresses.
So, for her birthday, you decided to have a picnic where you asked her to be your girlfriend. It was a clearing in a forest near the city. Not a lot of people knew about it, so you knew it would aloud you to have a little alone time without having to worry about someone recognising you. It’s ok, we can still have the picnic in the evening. She deserves time with her family.
You talk with some people for a while before deciding to call it a day and go back to your apartment, knowing Jenna would meet you there after reading the note you left in her bag. You just got your things when you hear Percy and Georgie talking. “Everything is ready. Her parents will drive her to the party after they finish lunch.”  You approach them with a confused face. “You’re throwing a birthday party for Jenna?” Percy looks at you surprised. “Yeah” “Oh, no one told me. Where it is?” Georgie looks confused while Percy has a smug look. “Yeah well, that’s because you aren’t invited.” “Percy!” Georgie looks at him with anger. You have a dumbfounded expression. You don’t know how to feel about it. You’re angry at his words, you know Percy feels something for Jenna, he couldn’t be more obvious about it, and he’s jealous of you so you think it’s his doing. But then sadness and hurt washes over you. The whole cast knew about the party, and they haven’t told you anything. You started working on Wednesday just three months ago so you’re not really close with them yet, but you thought they were your friends.
You start walking fast to the exit with your head low, trying to stop your tears. You’re almost outside when Joy stops you with her hand on your arm. “Hey, where you’re going? I tho-” She stops herself when she sees your state. “Y/N, what happened?” You yank your arm from her before storming out, leaving Joy very confused and worried.
She looks where you came from, seeing an angry Georgie talking with Percy. She gets closer to them, knowing they’re the reason why you left like that. “What the hell happened?” “Nothing, she’s just too emotional!” Georgie is fuming after hearing Percy’s words. “This idiot here didn't tell Y/N about the party. She heard us talk about it and when she asked Percy told her she wasn't invited.”
“You did what?” The three of them jump when they hear Jenna. Percy starts sputtering nonsense, trying to justify himself before Joy interrupts him. After telling her everything Jenna takes her phone from her bag with the intention of calling you but sees a note falling to the ground. Curious, she grabs it, seeing your handwriting on it. She had planned a surprise for me. How I didn’t think about it?
She turns around and starts walking to the exit without saying anything. She wants to get to you as fast as possible, knowing how hurt and disappointed you have to feel right now. She fetches her car’s key from her bag with the idea of driving to your house but her parents stop her. “Jenna, what’s going on? Where are you going?” “Later.” Before she can continue, her dad takes the keys from her hand. “You’re too shaken up to drive safely right now. Tell me where you need to go and we will drive you.” She wants to protest but she knows she won’t win, not with this, so with a sigh, she gives him your direction.
When they arrive, Jenna opens the door with her spare keys. She calls your name without a response. When she enters the living room she finds another note on the table. Jenna loves mysteries, so your idea was to leave notes with clues in them around the house. She chuckles when she reads the note.
Look where we failed the first time.
FLASHBACK
You and Jenna arrived from work an hour ago. You just got out of the shower and see Jenna lying on the sofa scrolling through Netflix. “Hey there.” She greets you with a pout. “What happened?” “I ordered pizza but I forgot I wanted cookies.” You laugh at that. When Jenna was tired, she acted adorable. “It’s ok baby, we can place another order for them.” “But we can’t! It’s too late.” You look at the clock to see that she’s right. It’s 11:13 pm and the max time to place orders it’s at 11. She’s still pouting and your heart melts at it. “Aww. I’m sorry darling.” You kiss her temple after that, taking a seat on the sofa and putting her legs on your lap.
You stay in silence for a couple of seconds before she talks again. “Can we bake some?” You’re going to say no when you see her looking at you with a hopeful expression. “Love, we don’t know how to bake. I can’t even cook pasta without fucking it up and you expect us to make cookies?” “Please?” When she gives you puppy eyes, you sight in defeat. You can’t say no to her when she does that. “Fine, but you’re cleaning tomorrow.” Jenna squeals in excitement before getting up and going to the kitchen.
You search a recipe and take out all the ingredients while Jenna preps the oven. Everything went fine until you put the cookies in the oven. The pizza arrived at that moment and you two completely forgot about them until a burned smell spread through your apartment. “Shit! The cookies!” You go running to the kitchen, turning off the oven and getting the cookies out. They were completely burned. Jenna laughs when she sees your face. “I think we both failed at baking love.” She kisses your cheek before helping you clean the kitchen.
END FLASHBACK
Jenna starts searching the notes. Inside the oven, under the coffee table, inside the bathroom cabinet, behind a painting in the hall… Finally, the last clue brings her to your room. On top of the bed, there’s a box. She gasps when she opens it. Inside there’s a beautiful summer dress that she’s been wanting for a long time. She takes it out of the box, admiring it with a soft smile. Suddenly she hears a whistle. She looks at the door to find Mia and her parents looking at her with smiles on their faces. She was so wrapped up in your surprise she forgot her family was with her. “I suppose you and Y/N are more than friends?” She looks at her mom with wide eyes before gulping down. “We’ve been together for two months now.” She’s nervous about their reaction, but she’s relieved they finally know. She loves you too much and she’s tired of hiding. “She looks like a keeper, you better treat her right.” She smiles after that, knowing that her family fully supports her.
She looks back to the dress, wondering where you at, when she notices another note in the box. “I know where is she. Can you let me change before driving me there?” Her family nod before closing the door.
Thirty minutes later, they arrive at the spot. Jenna hops down before the car fully stops, ignoring her parents’ protests, and starts running with her heels in her hands. You’re seated on the ground, face full of dried tears, while you look intently at the small stream in front. You whip your head to the side when you hear her yelling your name. Her body collides with yours and you feel her lips.
The kiss is fast and a little desperate with all your hurt and her worry rolling off in waves. After a few seconds (or minutes, you don’t really know), you start to slow the kiss, enjoying her warmth. You give her a few short pecs before looking at her with a lovestruck expression. “Hi” She giggles before greeting you. “What are you doing here? I thought you would be at your party?” Her hands are on your cheeks caressing them and you lean into her touch, wanting to feel her as close as possible. She sighs before looking at you with soft eyes. “After we finished lunch I realised I left something in the set. When I got back, I saw Georgie and Joy arguing with Percy. They told me everything. I’m so sorry darling.”
You flinch a little after hearing his name, still angry and hurt. She kisses your temple, before resting her forehead on yours. When you talk, your voice is weak. “You shouldn’t have come here. You should be having fun with your friends at your birthday party.” “Hey no, look at me please.” You do what she asks. “I prefer spending my birthday with my amazing girlfriend in this beautiful place than at a party. I should have known that you had prepared something. Sorry for not thinking about it.” “Stop apologising, it’s not your fault. But, you should go to the party, they worked hard for it.” You give her a smile, feeling better after hearing her. “Come with me.” You stammer a little after that. “I don’t think they want me there Jen.” “I’m sure that’s not true. But, even if it was, it’s my birthday and I want you to be there with me. I have an incredible girlfriend to show.” You look at her with wide eyes after that, afraid that you misunderstood her. “What? You’re sure? I don’t want you to feel press-” She kisses you before you can finish.
“Jenna, we are running late!” She turns her head to throw daggers at her sister. You giggle, before getting up, offering your arm to her. “Well, we can’t have that can we?” She smiles, seeing how your mood has improved, before wrapping her arm in yours and start walking to the car. “I’m sorry it took me two months to tell someone about us.” “Don’t worry darling, I would wait forever for you to be ready.” You kiss her cheek before entering the car.
When you arrive at the place the party was held, you get a little bit nervous, but you calm a little when you feel Jenna’s hand intertwine with yours. Emma and Naomi come to greet you both. “There you are! We thought you got lost.” Emma has a playful grin and you bark a laugh at her words. “And miss the party? Never pup.”
You enter the local, your mouth hanging open looking at the decorations. The party is held on the roof, the breathtaking view of the city getting your attention for a minute. Everything is decorated in blue, white and gold, giving it a sophisticated look. “This is amazing girls.” You nod at Jenna’s words, still taking everything in. When everyone comes to you so they can congratulate her, you take a step back, giving them space.
You walk to the end of the roof, resting your hands on the glass fence, and look at the city. You feel a presence on your right and when you look, you see Georgie with a remorseful look. “I’m sorry about earlier, Percy was in charge of the guest. We all thought you already knew about it.” You give him a small smile. “It’s ok.” You talk for a little bit before Jenna comes you your side. She grabs your hand before talking. “Want to dance with me?” You pay attention to the music and realised a slow song is playing. Your smile widens and you nod, letting her drag you to the dance floor in the middle.
You look at each other through the whole song, and when it finishes, Jenna gets close to you, kissing you soft and slow. You can feel your cheeks grow warmer when you hear some cheers from the cast, but you don’t pay them any attention, deciding instead to deepen the kiss. In the end, a little embarrassment it’s worth it if you can continue to kiss Jenna.

But anyway, Stranger Things Steve and Robin story where things are Pretty Bad in Hawkins for a while after season 4, to the tune of regular monster incursions and more bumps and bruises and stitches and possible concussions than generally standard
and maybe six months in, after graduation, as Hawkins has come up with more and more unlikely stories to try and pretend that they're not sitting athwart a rising apocalypse, after Robin has deferred college for a year, if they all even live that long, because she loves Steve with every last corner of her heart and she won't, can't leave him here
and it's been another bumpy week in a string of bumpy weeks, and Steve doesn't have another concussion, thank god, but Mike needed seventeen stitches and Nancy has a new burn scar curling up over her left shoulder--
Robin goes to find Steve somewhere in the middle of the third load of laundry in the house where his parents haven't set foot since the "earthquakes" happened. Where she has her own permanent guest room, but just crawls in with Steve most nights anyway, because she cannot handle going home to face her own parents and their questions and their 'constructive criticism' and their attempts to be helpful any more.
And she just immediately starts pacing, back and forth across the basement while Steve tries to fold yet another fitted sheet that she could definitely be helping him with, and she says,
"So look, I have been having this really crazy idea, and I need you to tell me that it's a crazy idea, and I should just forget it, except that every time I try to think down that path I keep thinking of reasons that it's not a crazy idea, and it's actually a really good idea with very minimal drawbacks, at least in the near or foreseeable future, and if it ever does start to have drawbacks we can just undo it, because Indiana's had a no-fault divorce law since 1973, and all we'd have to do would be filing some paperwork, and you're just looking at me like I'm babbling again."
"Just like it, huh?" Steve asks, eyebrows raised with a little bit of 'really?' and all the affection of his heart, and when she stops, giving him that slightly-desperate look, he adds, "So, who's getting a divorce?"
"Us," Robin says, planting her feet and looking straight at him. "Eventually. Hopefully. Someday."
"Ooookay, kinda worried you're already planning my eventual divorce when I haven't had sex since Vecna showed up," Steve says, still not really sure where this is going but willing to follow the train at least a little farther, and Robin just shakes her head, eyes wide and focused.
"No," she says. "I mean you and me. I think we should get married."
Yeah, that makes about as much sense as anybody's crazy plans these days. Steve misses the days when he would have been too confused to keep up. He's still confused, he just so rarely expects to be anything else any more that it doesn't really make that much of a difference.
"Robin," he says, a whole sentence in one word, and then she's pacing again.
"Look," she says, wringing her hands the way she does when she's actually pretty upset about something. "Look, I know it's a stupid, crazy, stupid idea, and this isn't me coming on to you, you know this isn't me coming on to you, this is actually a really hard and scary thing for me to think about asking, but it's still like fifty times less hard and scary than what we do every week just living in this town and knowing what we know, because one of the things we know about living in this town is how dangerous it is, how many bad things could happen at any time, and-- and-- and--"
"Robin," Steve says again, and puts down the sheet in a heap to get in her path. He doesn't usually cut her off, but when she gets so worked up she runs out of words, that's when it's time to help Robin get back out of her own way. She lowers her hands into his and Steve squeezes them. "Hey. What's going on?"
"I'm scared," Robin says.
"Yeah, me too," Steve agrees, easily, because the sky outside is a hazy sort of blue-green that goes red-purple at night when it's not black, and when rain falls it sometimes leaves streaks of slick grime on everything it touches, and there are bludgeoning weapons and loaded firearms tucked into corners all over this house. He's been scared more on than off since 1983, and he hasn't bothered pretending not know it since '85.
"I'm scared for you," she says. "And I'm scared for me. I'm scared that none of us knew what was up with Nancy at the hospital for two hours the other day, because her mom showed up for Mike and they told her everything and Karen Wheeler hates us."
"Nancy's fine," Steve promises; her left arm's gonna be bandaged for a while, but she can still steady a rifle, and sometimes he thinks that's two-thirds of all Nancy really cares about any more. It's probably close to half of what all any of them have time and space to care about these days, which is a pretty depressing thought. But that's not a forever state of events, right? "She just got a little banged up. She's okay."
"Steve, what happens if you get hurt?" Robin asks. "Like, really hurt? If you get sick, or concussed again, or you need surgery like Max or Eddie, and you're not conscious enough to make your own medical decisions?"
"I don't know, I guess they call my parents, don't get an answer, and then operate anyway," Steve says, blowing it off like he always does. "Robin, I'm fine."
She's shaking her head, though, no, "I've just, I've been thinking, and I've been reading, and you know how hospitals are, it's been happening all over where people get sick and their friends, partners, can't even get in to see them, and families they haven't even talked to in years get to make medical decisions, because they're not married."
And Steve's not exactly smart but he's not completely dumb. Robin leaves absolutely anything that might even suggest she's a lesbian at Steve's house so her parents won't find it at home, which means there's a whole pile of blurry xeroxed zines and pamphlets and gay newsletters on his once-unused bedroom desk, shoved under a Russian-English dictionary, three spiral notebooks, and a book by some guy called Jung-pronounced-Young. Steve isn't really sure where they come from, because they only make maybe one supply run to Indianapolis a week between the whole group of them and Robin doesn't even usually go, but the newsletters keep multiplying. He's glanced at them before. He's heard Robin talk. He knows what she's thinking about.
"That's not what's happening here," Steve says, promises. "You know that's not the same thing. Nobody's getting sick."
"No, just...torn up by demobats, or haunted, or possessed, or who knows what else," Robin says. "Steve, I don't want my parents to be the ones visiting me if I'm in the hospital. I don't want them to be the ones in charge of deciding what happens to me. I don't want to wake up from a coma one day to find out I've been transferred to some hospital in another state because they decided Hawkins was too dangerous and now I never get to see you again."
"So you want me to be the one doing that?" Steve asks, and Robin looks up at him, hands still tight in his, and she says,
"Yes," like it's obvious. Like it's everything.
For one brief, bright-aching moment, Steve lets himself regret. He's not in love with Robin. Not like that, never like that, but -- there was a minute, once, where it could've been, for him. And it never could have been, for her, he knows that, and that's fine, that's great, because Robin still loves him more than anybody else in his entire life has ever loved him. And it is everything, and it's never going to be like that, and probably nobody is ever going to love him like that even half as much as Robin loves him like this.
"Sure," Steve says.
"And -- and look, it's selfish, and it's stupid, and it's terrible and I hate myself for thinking it, but if you die out there, and half of us are basically living in your house, and I know your parents don't want this house but they can't sell it because it's Hawkins and the housing market sucks, and you don't technically own it but it's all tied up in your trust fund, and if we were married that would give us at least the length of a court case to figure out where else to go, and we'd be able to take care of Max, and--"
"Robin, yeah," Steve says. "I'll do it. Sure, let's get married."
"Wait, really?" Steve doesn't know why she sounds so startled when it was her insane idea, unless she really did want to be talked out of it, but if she'd actually wanted to be talked out of it she should've gone to Nancy. Steve's not the guy who talks Robin out of things. He's the guy who talks Robin into her own brilliant ideas and all the things she desperately wants and doesn't think she can have. "Like, really?"
"Yeah, sure, let's go tomorrow," Steve says. It's a Tuesday, the little gremlins'll all be in school and their shift at Family Video doesn't start until five. "Do we need to get, like, a license or something?"
It's not like Steve doesn't get that this is a weird thing to do, and not a thing that most people would do with their platonic lesbian best friends, but honestly...like, Robin hadn't wanted to say it, but Steve knows he's probably more likely to die in the next couple of years than most other people they know. Doesn't matter how much he plays it off, Steve's always going to be there sticking his body between whichever kid or girl or random civilian and the danger of the day. He's not always there, which is how Mike ends up with a gash up his arm that better not be getting infected with Upside Down rot while Karen Wheeler is too busy pretending that Hawkins is still a normal town, how Nancy gets caught in the blowback from a molotov cocktail thrown just a little too short. Sometimes it feels like Steve's blaming himself in the middle of the night for not being there a little more every year. But he tries.
And if it gets him killed, the least he can do is make sure his stupid trust fund goes to Robin instead of back to his fucking parents. He's not dumb enough to think him dying wouldn't wreck at least Robin, at least for a little while, but he has to figure a pile of cash would make it a little better. He doesn't think it would make things worse.
Besides, Steve lets him think for just a second, what if they do actually figure out how to stop Henry Creel and all his Upside Down bullshit? If they find a way out of Hawkins without leaving the kids behind to die, and move on with their lives? Would being super-platonically married to Robin actually be that bad? He could put her through college with that stupid fucking trust fund while she got whatever genius degree she wanted, maybe end up her slacker house husband and fold all the goddamn fitted sheets by himself while she's off at work. Adopt a couple of kids, maybe, if he could talk her into it. Road trip over the summer in that Winnebago.
Not like Robin could marry someone she's actually in love with. He'd make it clear to whatever girlfriend she gets in the future that he's just there as window dressing and live-in laundry service. Not like Steve's ever going to find a girl who loves him half as much as Robin does, who gets it when the nightmares jolt him awake at three in the morning, who'll believe a single thing he says about the waking nightmare that is Hawkins, Indiana.
Really, it just means that Robin can't leave him behind. Which isn't fair to her, maybe, but it's her idea. She'll be the one slapping divorce papers down in front of him if she ever gets tired of it.
"Um, yeah," Robin says, still a little surprised for some fucking reason, but starting to soften into that smile she sometimes gets when they're being sincere, every once in a while. "Yeah, we just need birth certificates and ID, and like ten dollars for the license fee, and we can go right down to the courthouse tomorrow. Be done in time for work."
"Honeymoon at Family Video?" Steve asks, and yeah, maybe it's not the wedding he once would've pictured for himself, but fuck that guy anyway. This is Robin.
"We'll put on Back To The Future and actually watch it this time," Robin says, and she's grinning now, and Steve is starting to grin too, thinking about the bright hazy beautiful parts of a godawful night, the worst best bathroom floor in Indiana, about marrying the who-the-fuck-cares-if-it's-not-actually-romantic love of his life.
"Throw in some popcorn and you've got yourself a deal, Buckley," he says, and Robin lunges forward into him, wrapping her arms around him. Steve's arms fold around her shoulders like she belongs there.
He's almost not even annoyed that they kick over the laundry basket and send the goddamn sheets spilling out over the floor in the process.

[ present - March 2020 ]
With her phone held in front of her face, Cassidy quickly scans the vicinity of the room, through the door frame, making sure Cecelia is not within earshot.
"At least half of the country is on edge." She states quietly, eyes still glancing around to look out for her toddler. The little one doesn't need to hear or sense any concern that is present in their current conversation.
"It's the same here. The new travel ban isn't helping." Harry replies, sighing as he dips his head down. "It's the uncertainty of things. No one knows what's going to happen. It's as if the future is hazy."
"Hopefully it's nothing to be too concerned with." She responds, yet feeling a mild tightness in her chest. Just like Harry said, it's the uncertainty that worries her.
"On to a more positive subject, if things settle down, are you doing anything for Mother's Day? It's in a few weeks, yeah?"
Cassidy's shoulders raise in a shrug, an odd and solemn feeling rushing over her. She's never truly celebrated the holiday. When she was younger, her father obviously never did anything for her mum. Not anything good, anyway. Cassidy tried to do fun things with her, but it wasn't much. When she became a mum herself, there wasn't another person in the home besides her baby girl, so no one else was there to share in the traditional festivities of the day. Not that she wanted a big fuss anyway. Besides, this is the first year that Cecelia is even remotely aware that there is anything special about it. Needless to say, it has yet to be anything but another day of the week up until this point, so she hasn't thought to do anything specific.
"I don't know. It's like Valentine's Day, we'll probably just keep it simple."
"Nope." Harry states with a strong shake of his head. "I'm texting my mum."
"Don't you dare, Harry!" Cassidy exclaims, wishing she could reach through the screen to stop his plan from going any further, whatever it may be.
"You can't just do nothing for Mother's Day, Cass! You're a good mum! You should do something!"
"Harry, I swear to god-"
"Too late!" He proclaims triumphantly, that smug little smirk appearing immediately. Cassidy gives him the most intense glare she possibly can, hoping he can feel it somehow on the other end of the video chat.
"I hate you."
"That's not very nice…" He pouts, causing him to receive an eye roll of an unamused nature. "May I please talk to Cece? She's much more pleasant."
"Yeah, well, that's because she actually likes you." Cassidy quips, mimicking his mischievous smirk to add to her sarcastic insult.
"Hey…" Harry states. "Bloody hell. You're a grump today…"
Cassidy chews on the corner of her bottom lip. She knows she's being a bit too snappy. She isn't meaning to. All the talk, and worry, about this new virus that is spreading rapidly, it's getting to her a bit more than she expected. It doesn't help that she just started her menstrual cycle, and that Cecelia woke up multiple times during the night with a sudden onset of bad dreams.
"Sorry about that." She sighs, looking up to her phone, finding Harry's eyes attempting to flicker over her features through the video call. "It's just that things aren't really going very well today."
"Do you… you don't have to… but do you want to talk about it?"
Much to her annoyance, Cassidy cannot help the small flutter in her stomach at his concern and willingness to help. It hasn't even been that long but he really has become one of her closest friends.
"It's…" She chuckles, feeling just slightly awkward enough to stop herself before talking to him about her physical female issues. "Woman stuff."
"Ah. Okay." Harry responds, nodding as if he understands exactly what she means. Though, he might. He grew up with two women in the household, and has obviously dated a number of them too. Even still, it's not something she's willing to go into detail about.
"Also, Cece didn't sleep well last night." Her lips tense together in an awkward smile, and Harry presents a more sincere pout at the new information.
"That's no good." He replies, a slightly sad tone to his words.
"I'm sure she really would love to talk to you, actually." She admits, no longer with her comical demeanor.
"Alright. Send me over to her." He smiles, causing Cassidy to do the same.
She gets up from the edge of her bed, walking into the living room where she, of course, finds her daughter colouring across multiple pages of paper.
"Hey Bug, Harry wants to say hi."
Cecelia immediately drops her crayons and bounces in her place on the floor, waiting for her mum to bring over the phone. Cassidy giggles at her daughter's excitement and looks at her phone to switch the camera view for Harry to see the little girl's anticipation.
Suddenly, she is halted and instantly feels a shooting pain through her foot, originating from her pinky toe. Her hands fly up and she turns around to watch in agony as her phone lifts into the air and then falls onto the floor, smacking down against the tile in the kitchen.
"Oh for fu-... for crying out loud!" She shouts, holding back the true words she wants to release, for the sake of setting a good example for her daughter.
"Umm… hello? What happened? It's dark over here." She hears Harry say as she wobbles over and retrieves her device. "Are… are you alright?"
"I stubbed my damn toe." She growls, turning it over to find the back camera cracked all the way through. Shattered would be a better description. "And the camera is broken."
"Is it salvageable?"
"I doubt it. I can't do much about it anyway. I don't have the time right now to get a new one. Figures." She sighs, grinding her teeth down enough to feel pain in her jaw. She is usually better at handling or at least hiding her frustration, but her hormones and lack of sleep, as well as everything going on in the world, have just built up inside and this was the thing to tip her over. "Nothing is going my way today."
For some reason, she brushes off the phone, as if the dusting off would solve her problems, and then walks back over to Cecelia, whose eyes are wide open, clearly trying to use her three year old brain power to understand what just unfolded in front of her.
"Is Harry still on da phone?" Cecelia asks, her face changing to one ready for disappointment.
"Yes he is." Her mum replies, flipping the camera view back to face her, handing the device over to her daughter, and plopping down onto the sofa behind her.
"Harry!"
"Hello Cece!" He exclaims back, with just as much enthusiasm as he received. "What are you doing today?"
As Cecelia lifts up each of her drawings to proudly show them off, Cassidy examines her now throbbing toe, discovering the nail half snapped off, and she grimaces at the pain.
She leans forward and rests her elbows on her thighs, pinching her nose between her finger and thumb, squeezing her eyes shut. This isn't the worst thing to happen to her, and it isn't the worst day she's ever had. Not even close. Quite a few from her childhood could easily win that title. But, the sense of feeling overwhelmed still manages to hit her hard, and tears begin to sit on her lower lash line.
"Yeah, but Mummy helped-ed me when I had da bad d'eams."
"You have a very good mum." Harry states, causing Cassidy's head to snap up, seeing his gaze switch between her and Cecelia. His subtle smile pulls her out from the downward spiral of negativity, just enough to straighten her posture.
"She's da best mummy ever!" Her daughter exclaims, and Cassidy's eyes begin to water again, forming out of gratitude now instead of helplessness.
"Could you give the phone back to your mum, please?"
"Yeah, 'kay. Buh-bye Harry!" Cecelia waves to the forward facing camera, thankfully still working for this interaction, and hands the phone back to Cassidy. She quickly swipes a finger over each cheek, clears her throat, and lifts up the device to be in full view of the man on the other end.
"Cass, are you sure you're okay?" He asks, so much compassion in his voice that even the hardest of hearts would not be able to reject it. She's almost positive that statement would have changed her mind about him when they were younger. Possibly.
"I'll be alright." She replies, unsure of the honesty behind her answer, but certain that she does not want to burden him with any of these minimal problems.
"I'm here to help if you need me, okay? Well, I'm here, in Los Angeles, but the sentiment still remains." He chuckles, and Cassidy cannot hold back the small laugh she instinctively lets out.
"Thank you." She replies, knowing his generous heart, and not being one to hold back from doing what he can for a friend.
"No problem. But I should get going, and get a bit of sleep."
"Wait… what time is it there…?"
Harry pulls his lips inward, tightly, and closes his eyes, being accompanied by a subtle shake of his head.
"Harry…"
"It's 1 in the morning." He utters, scrunching up his face with the admission.
"Oh my god, Harry! We wouldn't have rung if we knew what time it was there! Why did you answer the phone in the middle of the night?"
"I couldn't ignore a call from one of my best friends, and her mum!"
"Piss off. You're horrible!"
"And you're still a grump. G'night!"
Cassidy rolls her eyes and watches Harry give a quick wink before reaching in front of him and ending the call. She locks the screen and reaches to place it in her pocket when she feels a notification cause her phone to buzz. She brings it back around and opens her messages to see a couple of texts from Anne.
🗨️ Anne: come over on mother's day
🗨️ Anne: and that's non-negotiable
"Oh for fucks sake." She whispers. "I'm going to kill him."
•••
Curled up on the couch in a blanket, fingers tapping away on the laptop sitting on her thighs, Cassidy groans at the sudden rapping at the front door. The thought crosses her mind to ignore the stranger on the other side, but the knocking continues, so she figures an answer to their persistence will shut it down sooner.
She angrily swings the door open, ready to scowl at the intrusion, when she is halted by the sight of her best friend.
"Bloody hell, CJ!" Gemma exclaims, her eyes wide. "Why weren't you answering the door?"
"I was trying to avoid the annoying person who was interrupting my day." Cassidy chuckles, feeling thankful it was simply her friend, and slightly guilty that she didn't respond to her sooner.
"Annoying?" Her friend drops her jaw in disbelief. "Bit rude considering I brought you some coffee!"
Cassidy's eyes travel down to the to-go cups in her friend's hands, and can already feel the warmth of the drink inside.
"Just let me in and then drink this immediately, for fucks sake." Gemma adds, bringing Cassidy's eyes back up as she opens the door.
Gemma makes her way in and directly over to the sofa, instantly settling herself in as Cassidy takes a seat to the side of her.
"So, what's up?" She asks, taking a sip of beverage she has just been handed.
"I can't just visit my best friend?" Gemma replies.
Cassidy immediately lets out a laugh. Despite loving to spend as much time together as they can, and do, she knows her friend too well to ignore the expression all over her features.
"Not when your face looks like that!" Cassidy points out. Gemma opens her mouth in dramatic fashion, attempting to portray offense at Cassidy's assumption of ulterior motives.
"Fine. I heard that you're spending Mother's Day with me and Mum…" Gemma states. Cassidy subtly grumbles at Harry's sneaky plan to get her to celebrate the holiday. She definitely plans to give him a few words about inconveniencing his own family, just to get her out of the house. "I was hoping you could help me figure out what I can get for her."
"Shit." She responds, thankful that her daughter is currently at daycare and not within earshot of the curse words that just have, and will most likely continue, to be uttered during their conversation.
"Right? Why is she so difficult to buy for?" Gemma whines, pouting as if she were a toddler herself, again.
"She's just always so fucking generous that she never wants or asks for anything for herself."
The pair laugh at the notion of complaining about how selfless Anne is, though they love her for it. Cassidy likes to think that Cecelia's contentment for anything and everything she receives has come from the influence of that wonderful woman. Neither Anne nor Cecelia care too much about what they have or are doing, as long as it's with the people closest to them, which sparks a small idea.
"Why don't we treat her to a fancy afternoon tea time somewhere?" Cassidy perks up with excitement, one she can actually get on board with if the celebration must include herself. "She's always wanted to go to Claridge's, right?"
"Yes! That's perfect!" Gemma exclaims, pulling her phone out swiftly and bringing it in front of her. "I'm going to tell Harry so he can pitch in."
"You're making him contribute? He's not even here." Cassidy chuckles.
"So? She is his mum too… and I'm pretty sure his bank account can handle it."
Her statement is true, and Cassidy is once again reminded of just how big a star her friend Harry is. It boggles her mind that she grew up with him, that she actually grew up with the now famous Harry Styles, because she still doesn't really think of him that way unless and until it's brought to her attention in certain situations. But, she realizes that as his career continues growing, his celebrity status is a fact that is becoming more and more prominent to her.
Cassidy takes another sip of her coffee and a sudden knock at the door causes both of them to immediately snap their attention towards that direction.
"I have no idea who that could be…" She states, turning back to her friend as if Gemma would have more of a clue.
"So then answer the bloody door, CJ." Gemma chuckles, rolling her eyes as her thumbs type out a message on her phone.
She gets up, hastily making her way over, and opens the door to find a man standing in front of her with a decent sized box in his hands.
"Miss James? Miss Cassidy James?" The man asks, and as she looks over his attire, she notices that he doesn't appear as someone who usually makes deliveries.
"Umm… yes, that's me…" She responds timidly, only leaving the door open enough to view the stranger on the other side.
"Excellent. I have a package here for you from Mr. Styles." He explains, lifting the box in full view with a pleased smile on his face.
"I'm sorry, what?"
The man looks down to the object in his hands, glancing over the information typed out on the printed label.
"Mr. Styles asked me to deliver this to you as soon as it arrived." The man clears his throat, which causes Cassidy to shift in place. "He said that he didn't want just anyone to bring it to you and to personally make sure you received it."
Her mouth opens slightly but her brain seems to be unable to form words. Without her ability to function normally, she gives the man a simple nod to thank him, retrieving the box through the doorway.
"Have a good day, miss." He states, responding with his own nod and a smile as he walks away, and Cassidy closes the door behind him.
As she makes her way back to the sofa, her expression immediately turns into confusion, and her curiosity begins to heighten. She is completely unsure as to what Harry could have sent her way, especially considering he is held up in an entirely different country.
"What in the-?"
"Just open it! I want to know what's inside!" Gemma squeals, bouncing in her spot much like something Cecelia does quite often when she is excited.
"You don't know?"
A simple head shake from her friend gives her the boost of interest to grab the mysterious package and pull it into her lap.
She looks to the small table to the side of the couch, quickly finding a pair of scissors that are just sharp enough to cut the tape. A few snips and the box is free to reveal what's inside. Cassidy gives a quick look to her friend, finding comedy in the giddiness they both suddenly begin to feel.
She pries open the top, reaching in and pulling out a box of chocolates. It's not something that needed to be sent to her or delivered by a man in a nice coat, but nonetheless, she won't complain.
The sweets are set next to her as she brings her attention to something else she seems to have been gifted. As her eyes meet the item inside, shock takes over the function of her body, as well as inhibiting any words to leave her lips, yet again.
"Well…?" Gemma asks impatiently, leaning forward and peering to get a view for herself. "A phone? Why did he send you a phone?"
Cassidy's focus shoots over to a paper flush against the side and pulls it out to find a note from the man in question.
CHOCOLATES TO FIX THE ATTITUDE PROBLEM AND A NEW PHONE TO FIX THE CAMERA ISSUE.
- H
"I'm seriously going to kill him." She whispers to herself, not knowing if Gemma was aware of the sentence she just spoke.
"I agree with the attitude problem. You've been quite moody. I suppose that's understandable though." Gemma jokes, pushing her shoulder against Cassidy. "But what's wrong with your phone?"
She lifts herself enough to pull the device out of her pocket, handing it over as she continues to glance over the new one now in her hands, removing the plastic from the outside container.
"Yeah, this camera is done for." Gemma states, placing the broken phone into the box in replace of the updated version. "How did Harry know that you needed a new one?"
Cassidy suddenly feels a miniscule version of something she experienced a long time ago. Something she felt after both times that she and Harry had sex. Nerves. And a dose of guilt. Yet, it's a ridiculous thing to be feeling. This is not the same situation in the slightest. She and Harry are friends, and that's all. And what's more, Gemma knows they are friends. Unlike her lack of awareness of the other incidents. It has to be residual effects from the past, because there is absolutely nothing for her to be worried about.
"We were on a video call when it happened." She replies, finally taking her eyes from her gift and landing them on her best friend, being met with a mildly inquisitive, raised brow.
"Oh, okay." Gemma plainly responds, her simple answer reassuring Cassidy.
"Yeah, me and Cece. I hurt my foot and dropped my phone." She shakes her head in remembrance of the event that felt so tragic when she was in the middle of it. "I told him I couldn't get a new one yet. Apparently he took it upon himself to do just that."
"He's that kind of guy." Her friend explains with a shrug, as if it's something Cassidy should automatically know. But then again, that's all she has been experiencing from him since their friendship started, so she truthfully shouldn't be surprised.
"He didn't need to do this." She utters, still having the instinct to turn down the kind gesture.
"He knows that. But it's not going to stop him. He takes care of his friends and family."
"I'm becoming very aware of that fact." Cassidy exhales with a single, subtle sound of a laugh.
"I'm just glad you two are finally getting along."
The surprise of the comment causes Cassidy's heart to stop along with her breath.
"What?"
Gemma turns her body towards her, rolling her eyes at the question she was just asked, as if the answer should be obvious.
"You two were insufferable around each other when we were kids."
"Well, I mean, he-"
"Oh, don't get me wrong, Harry was definitely a major pest, still is at times to be honest. But, come on, you were exactly the nicest to him either." Gemma explains, and Cassidy can all but keep from readjusting in her seat. "I guess I just thought you both would grow up and grow out of it, and end up… ummm, you know, being friends. Eventually. Or at least not hating each other!"
Flashbacks flood Cassidy's mind as she remembers back to their childhood. Not once did she think that her friend felt anything but the same annoyance that she herself felt.
"Shit. I'm sorry, Gem."
Her friend raises a hand to wave off the apology, as if it wasn't needed, though Cassidy feels otherwise.
"Yeah, well. It was only torture for me, for about twenty years…" She thankfully giggles, helping Cassidy's sudden guilt to lessen in intensity. "So just stay friends for an equal amount of time, at least, and we will call it even."
The thought of being Harry's friend for that long causes Cassidy's stomach to tighten and her lungs to inhale a deep breath. It's a reaction she wasn't prepared for, and one that's indiscernible at the moment. Although, she can acknowledge that it isn't of a negative nature.
"Be around Harry for that long?" She smirks, looking back down to the new phone just gifted to her by the man himself. "I can't make any promises. I already want to clobber him for this!"
•••
The bouncing of her leg does not help the impatience she feels as she waits for the call to be answered from the other end. She double checks the time, hoping that her calculations are correct, and that she can catch Harry as his morning begins.
Suddenly, the ringtone from the video call disappears and her gaze is met by a tousle-haired Harry.
"Oh my god. Did I wake you up?" She immediately questions, her heart racing with worry that she may have disrupted his sleep.
"No. Not at all." He chuckles, a coffee mug being brought up to his lips, covering up the small smile that has appeared at her exasperated question. "And good morning…"
"Good morning." She replies with a sigh of relief, and she notices the smile still stuck on his face when it is revealed to her again. "Umm… I wanted to give you a quick ring to thank you."
"No problem." He quickly states, with a raise of his eyebrow immediately following his words. "Wait, thank me for what?"
Cassidy can't tell if he truly doesn't understand what she is referring to, or if he is arrogantly playing dumb to get her to elaborate, but either way she feels a mild sense of embarrassment creep out onto her cheeks.
"For the chocolates, of course." She jokes, holding up the box that already has half of it's contents consumed. "But mostly for the phone. Harry, you-"
"I'm going to stop you right there." He interrupts, sternly but somehow also sweetly.
"Right. I know. You like doing things for your friends. But come on, Harry. This is not the same as just cooking dinner for us…"
"You needed a new phone, Cass." He states, with a sincere yet still stern tone. "How else was I going to talk to Cece?"
"It was only that back camera that was broken."
"Not just that. Your phone was like one thousand years old. You needed an upgrade." He exclaims with a smirk.
"Coming from the guy who doesn't even use emojis." She jokingly scoffs, drawing out a loud laugh from the man on the other side of her screen.
"Fair enough." He simply replies, being followed by a poking out of his tongue. "Does it work, though? Do you like it?"
Cassidy blinks her eyes as if in disbelief at herself, truly realizing that she has only questioned his generosity, despite ringing to express her gratitude. But also disbelief due to his apparent insecurity about the gesture. Not only does he want to do this for her, but he also wants to make sure she's happy with it, and it's fully taken care of.
"It's great, Harry. Truly. Thank you so much." She responds, a warmth traveling up her neck. "The camera on this one is really good! I've taken so many photos of Cece already!"
Harry's expression brightens at her answer and the heat creeps further up to her face. It's the fact that he helped her, and her thankfulness, that are creating this reaction. As much as she's working on accepting all of this, it's still all new to them.
"You'll have to send me some." He mutters.
"Sure."
A silence falls upon them for a moment, a bit of flickering of their gazes from each person.
"So… do you have anything planned for the day?" Cassidy asks.
She notices him play with his bottom lip, and a more serious expression rapidly displaying across his face.
"Harry…?"
"Umm… yeah, I've got a meeting." He quietly states, and Cassidy senses a sadness in his tone. "Bit worried that I won't be able to tour this year…"
"Oh shit." Cassidy instantly feels her heart hurt for him. She's always known how much he loves that part of his job, and to potentially not be able to do it must be painting him more than he is showing. "I'm so sorry. I know how much touring means to you."
"It's not-..." He sighs, his fingers combing through his hair more than once. "It's not even about me. It's all the people who buy tickets… and flights… and hotel rooms to come see me. It's not fair to them."
Cassidy stays silent as she watches his gaze drop down in a preemptive defeat. She knows there is nothing she can really say to ease his worries. But he's there for her, and she'll be there for him. And if that means sitting in silence on the other end of a video call, that's what she will do. She'll be there for her friend.
•••
She doesn't know if she's ever been more grateful to have a new phone. With the new nationwide, and seemingly worldwide, lockdowns now in place due to the coronavirus, Cassidy has never felt more alone. Besides Cecelia, but there's only so much she can talk about with a 3 year old.
Needless to say, she has already used her phone more than ever before, especially for video chats with her friends. Particularly Harry. Because it seems that not even miles of separation nor a pandemic can break the bond he and Cecelia share.
"I wan' say g'night to Harry…" Cecelia pouts, as she nuzzles into her bed and under her quilt. Her little hands lift up to rub her eyes, deceitfully reassuring Cassidy of her daughter's need for slumber.
"I know, Bug. But it's very late at night for him. He's sleeping."
"M'kay…" The little girl mumbles, the sadness so evident in her tone that it tugs at her mother's heart.
"How about we send him a message, yeah? So he can wake up to it in the morning."
Cecelia's eyes light up as much as possible with the heaviness of the day, and Cassidy props herself up against the headboard.
🗨️ Cassidy: sorry about this being so late… cece wanted to ring you before bed but i told her we would message you to say goodnight… so, goodnight from cece.
"Okay. I told him." Cassidy simply states, locking her screen as she looks down to her daughter, stroking the girl's long locks.
"I miss Harry."
Cassidy's eyes instantly widen at Cecelia's words. She knows the bond they have, but it still manages to catch her off guard at random moments. Not in a negative way, just in how tight that bond is.
"I know you do. He's your friend." Cassidy replies.
"He's my best friend!" She explains, even with her sweetly sleepy voice. "Well, you first. And Emily at school. Harry is after. But… don' say dat part!"
Cassidy can't help but chuckle.
"Okay." She smiles, giving Cecelia one final kiss on her forehead and moving towards the bedroom door. "I won't. Goodnight Bug."
"G'night Mummy. Love you." A little, relaxed sigh leaves her lips.
"I love you, too."
Cassidy closes the door and makes her way back to the living room. She plops down and grabs the remote, letting her body sink into the couch cushions. She smiles as a thought crosses her mind. Despite the horrible things happening in the world, and the chaos that quarantine creates, she still has things to be thankful for. Things that aren't seeming to be affected by any of that negativity. Those things bring her comfort, which is more than welcome these days.
•••
With the sound from a rerun of 'The Great British Bake-off' playing in the background, Cassidy scrolls mindlessly on her phone, attempting to wind down from the day. A sudden buzz causes the device to drop into her lap from surprise, and as she picks it up, she is even more shocked to see that the vibrations are due to a phone call from Harry.
"Good morning!" He states as soon as she answers, not even waiting for her to speak. "Oh. Wait… guess it should be more of a 'good evening' greeting for you…"
"Yes." She quickly pulls the phone back from her ear and checks the time. "It's 9pm here.
"Shit. I'm sorry. Were you asleep?" He asks, his voice going quiet, as if he isn't thousands of miles away in a different country.
"No, no. Just watching the telly." She replies, swearing she can hear his relieved exhale on the other end of the line. "What time is it there?"
"Umm… let me see… it's 5 in the morning."
"Since when do you get up that early?" Cassidy laughs, covering her mouth immediately in hopes that she didn't wake Cecelia. She skipped her nap and really needs her sleep.
There's a pause in the conversation, and Cassidy looks at her screen once again, checking if the call has disconnected, only to find that he is still on the line.
"I haven't been sleeping the best, to be honest. Lockdown has that all out of whack." He mumbles, and it squeezes her chest tight. Everyone has been out of sorts these days. Quarantine is hard on each person in their own way.
"Hey, it's your X-Factor audition anniversary today, isn't it?" She asks, hoping to take him out of the negativity she can tell that he is sitting in. Maybe a good memory will do the trick.
"Umm... yes, it is... how do you remember that?"
Cassidy unintentionally lets out another loud laugh, bending over at her waist at the amount of comedy behind Harry's question, and the certainty of her impending answer.
"Are you joking?" She asks, doing her best to regain control of her breathing, and stay quiet for the sleeping toddler in the other room. "I think that date is ingrained in my brain forever! You wouldn't shut up about it after Anne signed you up!"

[ flashback - March 2010 ]
For the past several years of her childhood, Cassidy has been subjected to Harry's increasing levels of annoyingness. However, today she feels as if he may have reached his peak.
If she hadn't already heard the news from Gemma herself, it wouldn't have taken long for the information of Harry's upcoming X-Factor audition to be brought to her attention. It felt as if the entire school knew within a matter of minutes.
"Hey, Cass!" Harry shouts out from behind her, causing her to internally cringe at the sound of her name coming from his mouth. It can't mean anything good, at least not for her. It never does.
She stops in her tracks and twists around to find the young lad jogging up to her with a wide grin stretching across his face.
"Did you hear?"
"Hear what?" She asks, playing dumb, though quickly realizing it just creates the opportunity for him to brag, and she internally scolds herself.
"I'm gonna be famous!" He exclaims, and the arrogant statement causes Cassidy to unintentionally scoff. "Hey…"
"You don't even know if you'll be on camera." She replies, knowing full well that the crew will inevitably be drawn to his irritating charm that everyone seems to fall for.
"So you did hear…" His grin widens. "I don't care. I get to sing!"
"You sing all the bloody time!" She reminds him.
"Right. Exactly. People seem to like it. So, I want to see if the judges do too."
"I don't like your singing." She blurts out, not meaning to let her annoyance with him get the best of her and her words. Especially considering the statement wasn't exactly true, though she'd never openly admit that to him.
"That's rubbish… you sing along any time White Eskimo plays..."
"That's because I like the actual songs."
"You can come along… if you want…"
"What?"
"To my audition. You can come along if you want. Robin, Mum, and Gemma will be there."
Cassidy opens her mouth to speak, but no words come out. Is he really inviting her? There's absolutely no reason for her to go, and definitely no reason for him to want her there. Unless it's to feed his growing ego. Maybe even use it as a way to 'prove' to his schoolmates that she 'loves' him, like he continues to lie about. The realization hits and manifests into a strong furrow of her brow.
"March 27th? I think I'll be busy that day."
"Marked it on your calendar already, did you?" His arrogant smirk immediately pulls his left dimple inward. "Might be the last time you get to see me…"
Cassidy cannot help the rolling of her eyes, even if the idea is quite shocking to think about. As her gaze focuses back on him, and sees his smug face, her desire to sass him back quickly reappears.
"Don't get my hopes up Harry."

[ present - March 2020 ]
"Hey, I was excited!" Harry exclaims, almost as if to verbally pout, as Cassidy chuckles at the memory.
"But I'm pretty sure you weren't supposed to tell anyone at that point. At least not the whole town!" Cassidy pulls her lips inward to hold back another loud laugh threatening to push out.
"I didn't ring you to be teased." He responds, a clear lightness to his tone.
"You should know better by now…" She teases again. "Why did you ring then?"
"I was told someone wanted to talk to me. But… I didn't realize what time it was for you."
Cassidy feels a little smile form with her mouth at the fact that he is so thoughtful to call Cecelia back, yet missing the slightly important detail of what time it is on the other side of the world.
"She just wanted to say goodnight to you."
"I miss that little one." He confesses, and she feels a warmth build up inside her chest. "I miss both of you, I suppose. When you aren't being a bully."
"First off…" Cassidy begins, letting out an amused exhale. "No, that's fair… but you're not missing anything. It's only been a couple of days since we've all talked."
"I'm aware. But I enjoy our chats. They're keeping me sane." Harry replies, and she can practically feel the sincerity to his statement.
"You don't feel sane?" She asks with a small laugh, though genuinely understanding his meaning.
"I just miss everyone. I miss home. Feels a bit lonely over here."
"Aren't you living with a bunch of people right now?"
"That's… yes. But that's not what I mean." He sighs, and she can hear a mild pain in his exhale. "Los Angeles isn't home. Not truly."
"Right. It will be nice to have you around again." Cassidy admits, sensing the mild desire to have had this be a video call, for the sake of displaying a reassuring expression to ease him.
"Did I just hear that correctly? You actually like having me around?"
"Shut up, you twit." Cassidy scolds with a chuckle. "But, it's honestly not the same without you here."
There's a silence that falls between, and Cassidy feels that light comfortability she is becoming accustomed to feeling when she dwells on the good things she still has to keep her going. These talks, and this friendship with Harry, are definitely one of them.
Her attention turns back to him as she hears the clearing of his throat, and she reverts back to being grateful that this call is not a video, as she senses a pink hue rushing to her cheeks.
"I just think that, when I'm finally home in London again, it'll feel like things are getting back to normal."

[ present - June 2020 ]
As nice as it's been to work completely from home for the past few months, and spend more quality time with Cecelia, there is only a certain amount of sanity that someone can maintain while quarantining in general, let alone with an energetic toddler. So, Cassidy jumped at the chance to accept Anne's invite to her home, especially giving her daughter some freedom to go off and play while she chats face to face with another adult.
However, as she sits across from the woman who basically helped raise her, she can sense an awkward nervousness coming from Anne as she strums her fingers on the tea cup.
"I'm still sorry about Mother's Day being canceled." Anne expresses, slightly throwing Cassidy off that her anxiousness seems to be based off of the uncontrollable situation.
"It's not your fault. We went into lockdown!" She giggles, hoping her easy going demeanor helps to ease the unnecessary guilt Anne seems to be feeling.
"I know. It just would've been nice to have one last outing before everything shut down." Anne smiles, small but sweet.
Cassidy stays silent, gazing down to her beverage, the two seemingly understanding the nonverbal agreement. It hasn't been easy, for anyone, despite the rules of lockdown beginning to ease up. She's never been more grateful for open coffee shops and food delivery services, even if masks are required.
"Have you been out much now that we can, you know, go out a bit?" Anne asks.
Cassidy shakes her head slightly and she swallows her sip of tea.
"Haven't had much of a reason to go anywhere, besides the shops, for groceries."
"Oh." Cassidy hears the short reply.
As her eyes gaze back up to Anne, she is met with an unexpected expression, though one she had just been witnessing. The anxiousness has returned, or is still there, she isn't sure which one.
"Is… is there something else bothering you?"
"No, no. Not bothering…"
"But there is something." Cassidy replies, her eyebrow raising immediately.
"Well… it's just that, if you did want a reason to go out… there's this very nice guy, the son of a friend I have, and I thought-"
"Oh, so this was an ambush!" Cassidy states with amusement, but also a little frustration. She knows Anne means well, but she isn't even sure if she's ready for anything like a set up, and certainly wasn't expecting it to come from Anne.
"No, darling! No. I just… you're just a wonderful girl. And from what I know, he seems like a good guy. I just thought you two would have a nice time together…"
"I just don't know if I'm ready to date." Cassidy replies, the truth to her answer apparent to her in the way the thought of such a thing chaotically swirls around in her mind.
"Not ready? I can't even remember the last time you went on one! You definitely haven't since Cece was born!" Anne exclaims, snapping her mouth shut once the words come out, her features filled with regret. "I'm sorry. It's not my place."
"It's okay, Anne." Cassidy places her own hand over Anne's, waiting until their gazes meet.
"I just want you to be happy, CJ."
"I am happy." She reassures her.
"But you deserve to be loved. You deserve someone who absolutely adores you. Who, umm, who thinks the world of you, and never stops feeling that way. Who loves you through anything and everything life has and will put you through."
"Well, I have Cece…" Cassidy giggles, trying to divert the conversation to a more comfortable topic of discussion.
"You deserve someone who will love you both that way." Anne states, and Cassidy can see the emotion manifesting itself as tears form in the corners of her eyes. "I'm surprised you're still single, to be honest. But, if nobody… has tried… that's their loss. It's not as though you need it. A woman doesn't have to have a man to be happy. But, darling, you both deserve all the love in the world."
Anne's beautiful words and pure-hearted expression cause Cassidy's heart to melt. There isn't a sneaky or malicious bone in that woman's body, and she knows Anne is only doing it out of genuine love of her own.
"It doesn't have to be a commitment. Just a date. Or even just a… hang out of sorts." Anne adds, and Cassidy realizes she doesn't think she can reject Anne's offer. Or suggestion. Or whatever it is. She sighs, partially from gratitude but also defeat, and squeezes the hand she's holding.
"Alright." She agrees, watching as Anne tries to hide the way her face wants to light up.
"Alright?"
"I'll meet him." She concedes, every fiber of her body pricked with anxiety.
"Are you sure?" Anne asks, suddenly displaying more timidity than moments before.
Cassidy nods, mostly out of instinct. Anne has the best intentions, but bringing a guy into her life is not as simple as a casual 'hang out'. She has Cecelia. Not every man is open to being in a relationship with someone who already has a child. And Cassidy is more than a little cautious about who she brings into their dynamic. However, she knows that Anne is onto something. Even though she is perfectly content with it being her and Cecelia together, she can admit to herself that having someone else join their little unit wouldn't be the worst thing ever. As long as it's the right person. And she can't know if someone is the right person unless she gets to know them. So she might as well start somewhere, with someone. And if Anne knows this man, that's certainly not a bad place to begin.
•••
Derek is nice.
As planned by Anne, he and Cassidy first met up outside a small cafe, taking caution by social distancing from others, and enjoying the company together outdoors.
He is nice. Smart, successful, good looking, and seemingly uncomplicated.
The last part could be most important, considering that, as a single mother, her life can be the opposite at times.
Though, he seems to be very fond of her. He immediately made his intentions known that he won't see anyone else while they get to know each other. Again, uncomplicated. And any free moment she has, he wants to spend with her.
Which is why they are walking down the corridor to her flat, after he treated her to a very posh picnic in the park.
He guides her to the front door, a warm and strong palm placed on the small of her back, and stops behind her as they reach it.
She spins around, causing his hand to glide to her hip, and she swallows the lump in the throat that developed from the motion. It's been quite a long time since she's been touched like that, in that way.
"Thank you for today." She states quietly, some nerves seemingly getting the best of her.
"I'd like to do something with you tomorrow." He replies, a subtle squeeze of her hip accompanying his statement.
"Oh. I… I have some work to do, unfortunately." Her gaze drops out of unexpected shyness. It's not a lie, she does need to complete a few things, but she always finds herself in a daze after being with him. Dating feels new to her, all over again, and she always feels as if she needs to process their time together. Process the feelings.
His disappointed sigh is halted as the sound of the elevator rings out. They both turn their heads to see the doors open, and watch as Harry walks through them, his head down and his hands behind his back.
His pace slows as he gets halfway down, gazing up to meet the eyes of Cassidy, then shooting them over to the man beside her.
She looks over to Derek, whose expression matches that of her friend's.
"Harry? Harry Styles?"
"Yes…" Harry answers with hesitancy, and Cassidy concludes that he may be nervous about an awkward interaction with a fan.
"It's Derek. Derek Mills." He exclaims, raising his hand to his chest as if to provide visual proof of who he is. As if his identity should be obvious to the other man. "Holmes Chapel Comprehensive!"
Cassidy watches as Harry's eyes widen, flickering between her and the man he has now, apparently, been reintroduced to.
"Derek. Right. How's it going mate?" He asks, giving a blank stare and similarly neutral tone.
"It's going well. Yeah, I'm doing really, really well." Derek replies, giving a smile as his gaze moves to Cassidy before returning to her friend. Potentially his own old friend, though she can't quite be sure.
"Wonderful." Harry states, providing no emotion in his statement. He looks down to his hands after bringing them in front of him, showcasing a beautiful arrangement of flowers that she had somehow missed when the interaction began.
"I didn't realize you two knew each other. Especially considering, you know…" Derek points in Harry's direction. "He's famous."
"Oh, well-"
"We're good friends." Harry interjects. "We've known each other since we were kids."
An uncomfortable silence falls between the three of them, with only the jingling of Cassidy's keys sounding down the corridor.
"Those are nice." Derek states plainly, pointing to the bouquet, matching the tone he has been receiving thus far.
"Oh, right. I, umm, brought these over… for Cece." Harry replies, now keeping his gaze fixated on Cassidy. "Can I give them-"
"Oh." She responds quietly, suddenly feeling a tidal wave of tension filing the space around her. "She's having a little afternoon nap."
"Of course." Harry nods, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I should've remembered it was her nap time. I'm sorry."
"That's okay!" She instantly responds. She waves her finger between herself and the other man beside her. "We were just… saying goodbye. So I can take them inside."
She turns to Derek, being met with pure confusion. Not that it wasn't clear he wasn't being invited inside. That's something Cassidy put a boundary on as soon as he asked to see her again after that first date. So the confusion is most likely regarding this uncomfortable interaction between the three of them.
He gives Cassidy a nod and a quick kiss on her cheek.
"Message me tonight." He states, turning away from her and moving closer to Harry. "Nice to see you again, Harry."
"You too." He utters in reply, not giving the man much acknowledgement as he walks closer to Cassidy, and Derek walks further away.
Harry looks back at the now empty hall, and turns around to meet her stare.
"I didn't know you were… dating anyone…" He states softly, with a familiar timidity that she hasn't heard in a while.
"We've been on a few dates. Nothing too serious right now." She shrugs, rummaging through the bag she has hanging from her shoulder.
"Right. Well, that's… nice..."
"What's with the tone?" She asks, a sternness beginning to attach to her own tone. What reason can he have to be snarky with her?
"I'm a bit surprised that you didn't tell me about this."
As much as Cassidy was just questioning his current, negative demeanor, she didn't expect a real answer. Certainly not that answer.
"I didn't realize it's something you would even want to know…"
"I'm your friend! Of course I want-... I mean… we talked a lot while I was away. Seems like this would be something that came up in conversation…"
She studies his face, watching with uncertainty as he expresses the same sentiment.
"Your mum only introduced us a couple of weeks ago and-"
"My mum set this up?" Harry's eyes widen, just enough for Cassidy to pick up on the movement of his features.
"Yeah…" She replies, still sensing a sliver of the snarky tone he had used moments before. "She thinks I'm not happy. Or… wants me to be happier, at least. She wants me to have more love in my life."
"Love?" Harry immediately straightens his posture and his eyes widen with, what looks like, a curious shock.
"Well, god, one step at a time please…"
"So, do you like him?" He utters, a volume that almost caused Cassidy to miss his question.
"I suppose so." She shrugs. Her answer would truthfully be that she does, but that suddenly feels as if it would be a troublesome response to give at this moment.
"You suppose so?"
"He's a nice guy."
"Did you even know him in school?" He asks, passive aggressively at best.
"No… he was in the year ahead of mine. What's that got to do with-"
"I just don't remember him being a nice guy."
"In school? Harry, that was ages ago." She chuckles, trying to ignore the once familiar frustration making itself known. "I don't particularly remember you being at your best back then either."
"Yes, but that's-... it's just that, I-" He stutters, swallowing harshly and running his fingers through his hair as he clears his throat. "You're right. I wasn't."
"And look at you now. Bloody hell, look at us both now! I hang out with the biggest pop star in the world!" Cassidy exclaims, delighting in the comedic truth to the statement, even if it's not the real heart of their reconciliation. "But, moreso, I'm your friend. We are friends. People change, Harry."
"True." He utters in response. "I just… I'm looking out for you."
"I appreciate it. But you don't need to worry about me, I can handle myself." She smiles, standing up straighter to further display her confidence. "I'd like to think I have a good judge of character."
Harry opens his mouth, but quickly closes it, rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand.
"So… did you only come over to bring Cece some flowers?" Cassidy gives a small smile, still feeling an odd, mild tension in the air, but hoping the change of subject eases it away.
"Well, no. Since I just got back into town, I was going to invite you both over to my place." He returns her smile with one of his own, but the attempt still doesn't give her the reassurance she needs. "But since Cece's asleep, maybe another day then."
"Sure! Tomorrow?"
He hands over the bouquet and brings one hand up to fiddle with his lower lip, crossing the other around his waist, and furrowing his brow in thought.
"Yes. Tomorrow afternoon will work just fine."
Harry gives her a slight nod, along with a matching smile, and turns back to walk down the corridor. Cassidy watches as he gets back on the lift, his expression still seeming to be one of deep concentration on whatever his mind is dwelling on, and she begins to feel an uneasiness in her chest that she wasn't expecting to materialize between the two of them.

[ flashback - July 2014 ]
Dragged to yet another One Direction concert in London. That's where Cassidy finds herself with Gemma. It's annoying, at this point, that she so easily caves to her best friend's request of joining her, when she never wants to attend any of their shows. Not fully anyway.
And this time is worse, because Gemma managed to convince Cassidy to hang out backstage before the show, rather than after when she can use exhaustion as an excuse to get out of there quickly.
"So, what's new?" Niall asks her, scooting closer to her as they both lean against one of the dressing room walls.
"Not much really." She shrugs, considering the fact that her life is nowhere near as exciting as the one they lead.
"She's being modest." She hears coming from her right, feeling her friend nudge her with an elbow as Gemma walks up beside her. "She's finishing up at uni and then doing an internship for a place in Manchester!"
"That's amazing, Cassidy!" Niall exclaims, giving her a cheeky wink.
She simply shrugs, still highly aware of the company this news is being given to, knowing that this megastar's reaction is out of politeness.
"And she started seeing someone…" Gemma adds, causing Cassidy to shoot a strong, scolding glare in that direction.
"You're dating? Who are you dating?" A voice asks, and Cassidy turns her gaze to see Harry walking over from the other side of Niall, leaning one shoulder against the wall with his arms crossed over his body.
Who does he think he is to assume he has the right to even know the details of the new relationship she is in?
"You don't know him." She growls through her teeth.
"I might…"
"You don't."
She watches Harry look over to his sister, and out of the corner of her eye, sees the confirmation Gemma gives him. As if Cassidy's answer wasn't enough, or wasn't the truth. As if he knew better than to take her word for it. That arrogant prick.
"Does he know you know me?" His annoyingly famous smirk immediately appears after his words come out.
"Why would I tell him that?"
"Just don't want him to get jealous." He states, tapping Niall on the shoulder, obviously looking for someone to agree with his comedic statement, but only, and thankfully for Cassidy, receiving a shake of Niall's head.
"There's nothing to be jealous of."
Tumblr media
[ present - June 2020 ]
The sound of chopping can instantly be heard as Cassidy and Cecelia enter through the front doors to Harry's house.
"In here!" They hear coming from the kitchen, and as they turn the corner, Cassidy is met with the view of Harry busying himself around the room.
"Can I go ou'side?" Cecelia asks, looking between her mother and their host.
"Of course!" Harry immediately exclaims, not bothering to check with Cassidy, even though her answer would be the same. She smiles at the comfort and normality of it all now, and realizes that it may never cease to cause her heart to fill up with so many good feelings. Happiness qand gratitude being the main emotions. "I could use your help picking some pretty flowers to put on the center of my dining table…"
The little girl's eyes light up, nodding at the suggestion and skipping her way outside.
"What have you got going on over here?" Cassidy asks as she turns back to Harry and moves into the kitchen, finding different foods sprawled out across the counter.
"Just… a small charcuterie selection…" He replies, laying cheese slices on the middle of the board.
"You didn't hav-... it looks delicious, Harry!" She states. Clearly she is still learning to accept his generous gestures, though that is one thing she may never get used to. She has spent so many years having to do anything and everything herself, that it is still doesn't feel entirely normal for her to have someone else do something for her.
"I have some wine over there if you'd like to pour yourself a glass." He gestures behind him, not taking his focus away from the food in front of him.
Cassidy walks over to the opposite counter of where he stands, picking up the one bottle he has pulled from his collection, and reading over the very intricate label.
"Are you sure you want to open this one? It looks pretty fancy."
"It's just a bottle of red wine, Cass."
"It's a 1982. That's older than me! And it says 'rouge'… I consider that pretty fancy. But then again, I'm not the famous Harry Styles. I usually just go for the cheap Zinfandel or a pink Moscato." Cassidy giggles, looking up from the bottle in her hand to find Harry lacking the amusement that she herself is finding in her statement.
"Oh I'm aware." He replies, rolling his eyes in a very sarcastic nature.
"But maybe this pinot will wash away your 'grumpy old man' mood…"
Harry's gaze shoots up from his task, displaying wide eyes, as if he hadn't been clueless of his previous, serious expression, or the sourness in his tone. Although, she is almost positive that he knows.
"What?"
Cassidy scoffs out a laugh and shakes her head, choosing to move past his clear pout over her beverage commentary.
"Nothing. I just think you should save this one for another time. A better occasion."
He shrugs. Simply shrugs, and arranges the final few strawberries with the other fruits, as Cassidy finds a less extravagant wine for the both of them to consume. One that is more relatable to her more normal lifestyle.
"Shall we?" He asks, nodding in the direction of beautiful back doors, leading out to an even more beautiful backyard.
Cassidy grabs the glasses and they exit, each finding a comfortable spot on his patio furniture, both close enough to the outside table and within reach of the lovely food spread he has created.
"So, catch me up. What's… what's new in your life?" Harry asks, taking his glass and then a sip of wine, seemingly hiding his expectant expression, though failing to keep it from Cassidy.
"Well, considering we saw each other yesterday…" She giggles mildy. "Nothing."
"Right." He scoffs within a chuckle of his own. "But it wasn't much of a conversation, and I have been away…"
"We also talked multiple times a week, you pest. Besides not actually being around, and considering we couldn't do much anyway, you didn't miss anything."
"Don't know, it feels like I did." He mumbles. "With… with everyone."
Her gaze flickers over to him, noticing the way he has begun to run his teeth along his bottom lip, staring out to the backyard view.
"I bet it feels good to finally be back home then, yeah?"
"It does. Yes." He utters in response, a quietness that feels a little surprising to Cassidy, considering how desperate he seemed to leave Los Angeles and return to London. "I won't be able to settle in too much though."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I'm… I'm actually headed to Italy soon."
"That sounds amazing! How soon?"
"Umm…" He runs his fingers through his hair and his gaze drops as he swirls the beverage around in his glass. "I'm leaving next week."
"Next week?" She exclaims, turning to face him completely. "Wow. I feel like you just got back home."
"I know." He softly states, giving nothing more than that simple response.
"What are you going for?" She feels her brow furrow slightly, the expression caused by the confusion she feels throughout herself. However, she lightens her features, even if just to ease her own mind. "Finding even more pretentious wine?"
"Of course." He replies with a simple smile, very unlike his usual grin, or smirk. "And, umm, I guess to also figure out what I want to do next. Maybe write a song or two, if inspiration strikes."
"And you can't do that here? At home?"
"I need a clear head. Free from distractions."
The confusion grows and a worry begins to build alongside it, though she isn't quite sure why. He's a grown man. He can do whatever and go wherever he wants to, it doesn't affect or involve her in any way. Except that, to an extent, it does.
She looks over to Cecelia, who is completely comfortable at Harry's home, and completely content digging around in the garden outside.
Her gaze quickly shoots down to her fingers as they begin to fidget with the stem of her wine glass, then slowly moves back over to him.
A realization falls over her. She's a bit sad. For Cecelia, who just got her best friend back, but also for herself. She just got her friend back too. Her other best friend. Now he's headed off again, and another realization hits her. Their lives are so different. As much as she sees him as the Harry she knew as a kid, he is not just that. And for the first time since they became friends, she worries that it could change things. Change what they now have.
"Right." She utters, still caught up in her thoughts. "Free from distractions."

this is not about revenge (or what i felt before)
part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5 | part 6
"You won, right?" The sound of Martyn's voice seemingly jerks Scott awake. Martyn hadn't even noticed, caught up in his own thoughts. He mouths 'sorry' and intends to leave it at that, settling back against the hard stone wall. They had to sleep sometimes, and Martyn had graciously volunteered to watch Scott's back while he slept. It... had been a long day.
Scott sits up, rubbing sleep from his eyes. He doesn't make any motion to go back to sleep, and instead eyes him. His expression is unreadable.
"Yeah? I- I mean, you were there, right? Watched me get struck down, all that?" He waves a hand in the air aimlessly.
"I just- I want to know what it's like." Martyn says softly. The whispers still ring in his ears. He wonders, if he won, if they'd stop.
Scott frowns down at him, one newly sprouted yellow fin flicking. "Seriously, Martyn, what's this about? You can't be that confident already- you were just talking earlier about how bad your armor was."
He hesitates. How does he explain it? Explain Them?
"Just- did you see anything? Afterwards."
Scott's expression freezes, stuck between shock and confusion and a little bit of fear-
"You have!" Martyn shoots up, ignoring protesting wounds. He reaches over, takes Scott's hands. "You saw Them, didn't you?"
"I- don't- how did you- how did you know?" Scott sucks in a sharp breath, mouth tugged downwards. "Grian said. He said- it was only supposed to be the winners." Huh. That makes... a surprising amount of sense.
"I hear them," he breathes, locking eyes with Scott. "I always hear them. It's... quiet, usually, but sometimes-" He swallows, looks down. "I heard them after you died." After I killed you.
"Okay." Scott nods, forced calm on his face. "I'll pretend like that's completely normal and not at all worrying." His voice pitches upward as he speaks. "Um. Do I need to be worried?"
Well, I think They told me to kill you. And I don't think last time counts.
"No," he says instead. "Not really. It was just... indecipherable nonsense. As usual." Scott's still tense, but his hands relax slightly in Martyn's grip, and he feels slightly bad for lying. And then he realizes he's holding Scott's hands, and immediately lets go.
Scott blinks at him as he steps away, and then down at his own hands, dotted here and there with dark blue scales. He doesn't seem notice how flustered Martyn is all of a sudden, and he thanks any gods but his own for that. He's not sure why he's flustered in the first place, because that's something to unpack another day!
"I don't think I've said thank you yet." Martyn's eyes snap back to Scott. "For killing me," the other man clarifies, which is... something Martyn hasn't heard in a while.
"Well. It wasn't like I was having a lot of fun either."
"Mmm." Scott's only half-listening, he can tell, clearly turning something over in his mind. He waits patiently.
"You- hm. You don't do that very often." Scott looks at him directly, and for a moment all Martyn can imagine is a red brand across his throat. It's a stupid idea, of course. He had stabbed him through the heart.
"No," he agrees. "I don't." Suddenly all he can think about is how alone they are, in their threadbare cave under the ocean. How suddenly vulnerable this feels. He hasn't- he doesn't-
"I guess I'm trying to ask if it means something," Scott says carefully, watching Martyn like he's about to run, "or if I'm reading too far into it."
And that sends Martyn reeling. All he can do is stare at Scott, mind scrambling to form something cohesive.
In the end, all he can get out is "What about Jimmy?"
Scott's face twists sharply, a wave of emotions playing over his features, and Martyn knows he's said the wrong thing. But Scott just clasps his hands in his lap, twisting them tightly together, and looks back up at him.
"What about him?"
"Well- aren't you two..." Fated. Destined. Martyn waves his hand to illustrate his point.
"You didn't see his face today," Scott whispers after a moment, voice cracking for a moment. "When he was chasing me. It was- that was hunger, Martyn. He was going to do anything to kill me. I-" Scott stops. Takes a deep breath. "He wasn't- isn't the same Jimmy I fell in love with."
Martyn sits next to him on the bed, hands awkwardly hovering close to the other. Scott seems like he's about to cry. He looks at Martyn again, something simultaneously piercing and vulnerable.
"You're avoiding the question."
"What?"
Scott scrubs a hand over his head, messing up his already rumpled hair. "I asked if it meant something." Martyn is silent again; not struck-dumb silence, but instead reaching for an answer he isn't sure he knows.
"I remind you of him." Everything reminds me of him. It's still not an answer. Ren had been the world, and then, just like that, he wasn't. It still aches.
"That's not fair. To you." he finally murmurs. Scott just looks at him with clear yellow eyes. He wonders what red will look like on him.
"No, it's not," he agrees. "It's not fair for you to pretend I'm Ren. But that's not what I'm asking." He shifts closer, gesturing for Martyn to turn so they're both facing each other. "I'm asking if it meant something. Beyond Ren, beyond Red Winter, beyond Third Life."
Martyn sits there. He remembers sinking his sword between Scott's fourth and fifth ribs. His first thought had been you're safe now. Like it was nothing. Like he's ever been able to keep anyone safe.
Scott must see the struggle in his face. He takes one of Martyn's hands, squeezing it in his own. It feels... safe.
"It's- just- I- don't you ever believe in fate? Destiny, soulmates, whatever you want to call it."
Scott turns his head, considering. "Well, we've already tried the soulmate thing, and look at how that ended." The small smile fades from his lips. "I think if I'm destined to be with Jimmy, I wouldn't feel the way I do about him. I wouldn't feel the way I feel about you."
That makes Martyn flush, turning his face surreptitiously away so Scott can't see it. "I wish I could escape fate," he admits. "But I hear Them every time. It's- it's like They know, every single time. Like it's predestined."
"Well, try doing something They'd never expect," Scott suggests, half-jokingly. It actually makes him laugh.
"Yeah? What do you propose?" Scott's mouth curves in a wicked smile, and he leans closer to Martyn, until they're almost nose to nose.
"Well," he murmurs, sing-song. He places one hand on Martyn's cheek. "I was thinking something like this." He leans in closer, slowly, giving Martyn plenty of time to back off, to say no thanks if he wants to. He doesn't take the opportunity.
He meets Scott right in the middle. The kiss is driving, fierce. It's nothing like the way Ren used to kiss Martyn, like he was fragile, something easily broken, needing to be protected. He doesn't really want Scott to kiss like Ren anyways, he realizes.
They break apart after a moment, Martyn half-dazed. Scott runs a finger over his bottom lip absently, and he can't help but trace it with his eyes. Scott catches him in the act, raising an eyebrow.
"Did that feel fated?"
"I'm not sure," Martyn breathes. "I think I'd have to try again."

"Just your luck."
You simply said at the auburn-haired male, who just arrived at your place. He settled himself comfortably by the couch of your home, as it started to rain quite heavily outside, hitting every part of the window that's present.
"Gotta admit that I missed the rain. It's been heating up so badly lately." You handed him the glass of hot chocolate with a small smile.
Harry thanked you while grabbing the drink that you gave him, keeping his eyes on you even after he does so.
"Yeah, it feels nice, doesn't it? I mean, the rain makes it colder than usual, but still nice in its' own way."
You nodded a bit as you returned his occasional brief gazes, before shifting your eyes at the TV, which has lost its' signal due to the harsh weather outside, which prompted you to switch it off for now.
Harry gradually puts the glass of his now finished drink down on the table nearby, before letting his eyes stayed upon your standing figure. "Mind if I stay over for the night?"
"You're always welcome to stay here, Har."
An appreciative smile is plastered across his handsome face, deciding to walk toward your direction after bringing a chair along with him, placing it just next to yours. All while his gaze never once averted elsewhere.
"Mhm, you kept staring at me for the past few minutes."
"Got something in your mind?"
The auburn-haired male elicited a chuckle, now managing to fully catch your attention.
"Honestly?"
"I was just thinking, like, you know-- those old times where we used to spend our time with each other here, watching movies till the early hours of dawn.."
By this point, his eyes are shifted elsewhere as he continued further. "My illness, my dad sort of.. kept me away from meeting you before. Surely, there are valid reasons, but still.."
"It's just nice being able to see you again like this with no one else around."
"Ah, I get that." You leaned your back against the chair you're sitting on comfortably. "I missed you for that too."
"But.."
"Nothing's gonna happen to you after this, right..?" You don't know what has driven you to ask such a question since he is, well, already there looking all healthy and fine. You couldn't help yourself-- the deep fear of potentially losing him in any time scares you so much.
His smile gradually falters upon hearing your words; simply because he wasn't expecting that type of response from you-- not in a bad way though.
"You don't have to worry about me. Nothing's going to happen anytime soon. I've taken care of everything."
Harry tried his best to reassure you, yet deep down, he hated himself for a bit due to how much he worried you.
Maintaining his cheery demeanor, he forces himself to bury the feelings of guilt deep within him, knowing quite well that you have every right to feel this concerned over his wellbeing.
He doesn't want to be a liar, but he had to, for your sake. He cared about you too much to see you in this state.
Harry just.. wanted to be normal again, and he missed how things were between you two.
"Nothing's gonna stop that now, right?"
You eventually nodded it off, processing his words within your mind. "Yeah, you got a point."
"I'm sorry, I just.."
Any other thoughts are being shut out for now, his focus-- full of pure tenderness, is now completely on you.
"Hey, you don't have to apologize."
"Just please.. Don't worry about it anymore, okay? It makes me all sad seeing you this way about me. I appreciate you for that, always."
You eventually nodded, albeit wordlessly; not knowing what to say as a reply. Sensing the sudden slight of change, Harry finally decided to stand in front of you-- placing a finger gently beneath your chin.
"I'm fine, see?" He then grabs ahold of one of your hands while squeezing it lightly, which made you stand with him as well. The shared gazes lasted longer than necessary, but none of you cared much.
Just by the way your eyes looked up into his own; it's enough to make his heart race and melt at the same time. Dare he say-- you're so precious to him. He would shamelessly show it through his actions, even after all these years.
Even words couldn't be described with the way you gazed at him like that-- it's too much, yet never enough.
Slowly, and delicately, he guides your hand towards where his heart is; allowing you to feel the beat of his heart, and how he's very much alive to you.
He wouldn't lie, but he smiles so fondly, noticing on how his heart picks up just by the mere touch of your palm against his chest.
"Feel it as much you want."
"Isn't this nice?"
The warmth radiates from your hand alone, but you thought the opposite-- thinking that his heart and body are the ones who provide the most warmth. You needed this.
He's standing in front of you and alive. That's what matters.
A warm chuckle escaped from your lips, trying your best to stay composed since you started to feel a little giddy and silly.
"You're right.. This feels comforting."
All while letting his soft grip upon your hand stays, he now moves your hand from his chest, and onto his forehead. "You can-- I mean, check for my temperature as well, just to try convince yourself further, yeah?"
In truth, he just wanted to feel your touch for much longer, especially right at this moment. The rain outside was almost being forgotten.
Harry smiled over his own words; partly joking about it, but at the same time, he wasn't. You returned his actions with such ease, simply letting your hand stay upon his forehead for a bit longer.
You were being cautious as ever, as if not wanting to accidentally hurt him or anything in that way.
"You don't have to be so careful, you know," he remarks, finding your actions quite amusing to behold, to which you simply laughed it off.
"But I wanted to."
You did something that could be considered as bold afterwards; where you actually gave his cheek a small, yet sweet kiss. It's quite new, as you never had the courage to do something as such despite being friends for years.
"That should take all the remaining sickness away, hopefully."
As much as a sap you're being right now, you couldn't help yourself, especially when he keeps his gaze at you like that. He's just so.. You can't even resist him; feeling the urge to squish him if he was a plushie or anything akin to it.
It's just a kiss on the cheek, but why would he freeze and appear to be surprised by the sudden gesture? You're scared if you might have gotten too far with your actions--
But then, his expression is failing him once the reddish hue starts to form upon his cheeks, sharing a sweet and heartwarming laugh along with you.
Harry knows how much you cared for him; on how gentle you are with him. Even if the whole ordeal turns out to be a platonic one, he wouldn't mind the slightest, as long as you are within it.

Can you do what happened after being discovered by the manager.
(it mc and Jungkook)
Tumblr media
"I can't believe you're this calm about this!" You sigh in agony, running your hands over your face. Sure, he's got the lawyers involved, and even they said it's all gonna be fine and that there's no reason to worry about a thing- but still. You can't help but be on edge.
"Why wouldn't I be?" He wonders, smiling while he plays with your hairtie in his hands. "I've got people paid to do what they do best. And I'm pretty sure he did nothing but bark anyways." He chuckles, leaning back on the couch. "And also- I'm kinda glad."
"Glad?" You ask, dumbfounded. Why the hell would he be glad about this whole mess?
"Yeah." He shrugs. "Now that they know I don't have to hide it anymore." Jungkook says, slipping your plastic hairtie around his wrist before he looks at you. "You're fine, and you will continue to be fine. I told you I'd take care of things." He reminds you, and you sigh yet again.
It feels as if now, you're bound to him no matter what you want. With everyone aware of his interest and your somewhat involvement with each other, there's no way you could just say no to him, right?
"What's on your mind?" He asks, a lot more serious now it seems like. As if he's sensing your thoughts might be potentially dangerous to the both of you. "I'm not just doing this to get into your panties, if that's what you're worried about-" He starts, but you cut him off.
"No, I know- it's just..." you sigh. "What are we even, Jungkook?" You ask, and he looks at you for a moment, before he leans back again, seemingly thinking.
"I'd say we're getting to know each other." He offers calmly. "Or, at least I want to. Not sure about you to be honest- your signals are kind of mixed on my end." He laughs- though he almost seems...
hurt.
And it seems like it makes you actually think. He really hasn't done anything to try and get you into bed with him- he doesn't use chances he gets like you getting drunk at his home or your lonely-hours where you'd text him somberly about your lack of ability to sleep. He truly does seem to only want to get to know you.
Why are you so mean?
"I'm just.. worried." You say. "And scared."
"I know." He answers. "But you're not alone. You don't have to always fight all of your problems yourself- especially not when they're partially mine too." He offers you, leaning forward and closer to where you're sitting on the floor.
It's quiet for a good little while, Jungkook simply getting a bit more comfortable on his couch again, resting his back against the backrest of it before he looks around. It's when you decide something for yourself. Something big- and something that might break your neck in the future if it goes south.
But you don't want to deny yourself any happiness you might gain, just because you're scared of the worst.
"Oh damn." Jungkook chuckles, caught off guard when you sit on the couch with him, moving to sit sideways on his lap, hugging him with your head on his chest.
"Jungkook?" You ask quietly, and he hums a reply, slowly moving to lay his arms around you.
"Yeah?" He responds, relaxing with your body so close to him.
"Please don't break my heart." You ask, and he chuckles.
"I'll try not to." He jokes, before you feel him press his lips on top of your head. "I'll protect it." Jungkook says a lot more quietly now, like he's promising something secret.
And you just nod at that, letting him hold you close.
Not only for now-
But for as long as this works out.
