Something that I get chills about is the fact that the oldest story told made by the oldest civilization opens with "In those days, in those distant days, in those ancient nights."
This confirms that there is a civilization older than the Sumerians that we have yet to find
Some people get existential dread from this
Me? I think it's fucking awesome it shows just how much of this world we have yet to discover and that is just fascinating

Life hack for getting things done with adhd: pretend like you live in ancient times. Idk what it is about this daydream but it just flips some switch in my brain. Like “I must nourish the cattle (my dog and cat) to ensure a good harvest (snuggles and kisses).” or “I must keep my home tidy, lest the mischievous spirits be displeased and my wife and children (fiancé and pets) fall ill.” Besides needing to clean your clothes to “prepare for the coming frost” sounds a lot more urgent than “you’ll smell bad and Tiffany from work will judge you”
Having a hard time fitting prescriptions into this? Modern medicine is basically magic, so congratulations, you are literally a witch. Drink up Queen.

Chapters: 3/?
Fandom: Good Omens (TV), Good Omens - Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley (Good Omens)
Summary:
God was watching when Aziraphale ate the ox rib. When he conspired against Her and tricked her angels. When he lied to Heaven.
And falling should be bad, the worst thing to ever happen to him. Except that it's not. Crawley seems to want nothing but to protect him from Hell, to keep him close as he learns the ropes of being a demon assigned to Earth.
Maybe a side of their own is not such a bad and lonely thing after all.
-----
At the end of the day, Crawley was a mercurial creature he just couldn't quite understand.
And right now, that mercurial creature was stripping from his clothes the human way, in front of him, to Aziraphale's horror. His long robes were already gone, and it was pretty obvious the next garment to leave his body would be his short-sleeved shirt, leaving nothing left to the imagination from the waist up after that. He hadn’t removed his undershirt in front of the former angel yet, this was all new territory. This was far more than preparing to sleep.
Crawley looked at him over his shoulder as he divested from his usual attire to change into the more luxurious clothes he’d just created out of thin air for himself. “What?”
“You, um. Er.” Aziraphale awkwardly pointed at the naked shoulder of the demon.

Umibōzu
The Umibōzu is a japanese spirit and is said to live in the ocean and to capsize and drown the ship of any sailor who dares to speak to him. It is not known how long this spirit has been around, but it seems to have emerged in antiquity, or later in the Middle Ages.
The name of it, which combines the kanji for "(the) sea, ocean" (海, umi) with the kanji of "Buddhist monk" (坊主, bōzu), possibly refers to the fact that the Umibōzu is said to have a large round head, similar to the shaven head of Buddhist monks.
Umibōzu the monster of the sea, by Utagawa Kuniyoshi 1845 (x)
In other cases, they are described as formidable Yōkai (demons) who appear to shipwrecked people and fishermen. They are further believed to be drowned priests who display their shaven heads and typically appear praying. They are most often reported to have a grey, cloud-like torso and serpentine limbs and are about 1.5m tall. However, the last apparition was in April 1971 and none since. In Europe, it is not dissimilar to the Sea Bishop in terms of its appearance, so it could possibly be one and the same being- an octopus.

Random Fact #6,480
The most complete ancient library we know of is known as the Villa of the Papyri.
It's located in the ancient Roman town of Herculaneum, which faced a fate similar to Pompeii's when Vesuvius erupted that infamous day.
^ The black shadow represents the area affected by the ash cover.
The library contains a whopping 1,800 carbonized scrolls with its contents still (relatively) intact.
Researchers are still learning how to best open the papyri without destroying the inscriptions, but from the fragments already opened they have been able to uncover what was written in the pages.
The Friends of Herculaneum Society has a website on the town, complete with information for if you want to travel to see the different towns that were destroyed by the infamous Vesuvius eruption. Their site also includes a link to an online library of the papyri opened so far - divided by genre, author, and date.
If you’re interested in the event that led to preserving the scrolls, you might also enjoy Pompeii: The Last Day by the BBC. It’s a 2003 recreation of the events based on the then-current knowledge and talks about how the eruption affected Herculaneum and Pompeii differently.
There is also a 2003 documentary by PBS specifically about the library entitled Out of the Ashes: Recovering the Lost Library of Herculaneum that I would recommend.
