wait people vehemently disagree that birds are dinosaurs? i've known this forever. so long that i wondered why the dinos in jurassic park didn't have feathers. they moved like birds and they were basically old timey birds, so where were their feathers, little me wondered. (still absolutely love JP. iirc they consulted actual paleontologists how the bones went together and how they thought they'd move, and when they got to the t-rex someone on set went, "wait. i've seen this before," and got a video of a chicken walking. like the production of the movie helped advance our understanding of dinosaurs and i think that is SO neat. also it influenced the way i say dinosaur.)
i went off on a tangent. whoops. i really like dinosaurs (and pterodons and all sorts of other prehistoric life). i think they're super neat and i wish i could gently kiss a microraptor on the head.
jurassic park even SAYS birds are dinosaurs multiple times! like!!!!!!!!!!!!!! stop the madness!
anyways birds are SUCH dinosaurs that we legitimately can't figure out when Bird Starts in the dinosaur family tree
prehistoric life in general is amazing though

Wtnv quick rundown - 106 - Filings
Staring Mara Wilson as the Faceless Old Woman.
Read the rest of the rundowns here!
Why do birds suddenly appear every time you are near? Tell me more about your special bird powers. Welcome to Night Vale.
The angels have begun to file the paperwork that will allow their existence to be acknowledged. This is taking a long time as every time they reach the front of the line they are told that something is wrong or missing and that they need to come back. It is eventually accepted, with a hearing scheduled to make it official.
Fissures in reality have begun to open up. This creates false realities like Larry Leroy having a wife called Chrisette despite never marrying and last seeing her when they were both in their high school Lurching Band and Josie's house containing portals to impossible rooms. The pterodons and airliner from the early episodes also make a brief reappearance.
Cecil also crosses realities with the young Cecil from Cassettes (you know, the one who has a brother Cal who is possibly homophobic and dying of radiation poisoning) and watches him die because of the mirror in the station bathroom, unable to move or even cry out to warn this younger version of himself from another reality.
It is slightly possible that the adult Cecil's movements are what the younger Cecil was seeing as a 'flickering' in his reality as when Cecil does manage to move and try to wave a warning, the younger says he sees the flickering. He also was apparently unable to see the adult Cecil earlier and only speaks of Leonard as he does in the cassettes. Cecil goes into the bathroom and looks into the shattered mirror, seeing his own face and a rip in reality behind him which disappears when he turns.
Weather: "All or Nothing" by The Dream Masons
Alondra is still fighting the angels over ownership of her mothers estate and has put Josie's house up for sale.
Young Cecil is wearing a double winsor striped tie, polyester coat and aviator goggles which is apparently 'early 80's' style.
Cecil's lunch order is a Cobb salad with extra whipped cream and pencil shavings.
The FOW warns Cecil of the coming of the Distant Prince, with involvement from The Woman From Italy who she is apparently best friends with.
Young Cecil's wallet is made of human leather.
We can only make real what we accept as real. Tell them[the angels], okay? Good night, Night Vale. Good night.
Proverb: Good things come to those who wait. Good things come slithering down the unctuous brown stone walls to those who wait alone in the dark pit.

“To rise like the sun—there is no greater feeling.”
“Er, yeah. Sure, Itzama.”
The Sun Empire soldier frowned. She tore her gaze from the pterodon flying past her at eye level and looked down from her vantage point. There she spied the speaker, on the ground far below.
“Something the matter, Mahuiz?”
The more grounded soldier nodded their head wryly. “Kind of. It’s just…well, you’re talking about ‘rising like the sun’ like you’re flying or something.”
“Yes?”
“And, well…you aren’t flying.”
Mahuiz pointed up, to the massive altisaur carrying Itzama atop its head. The dinosaur’s passenger laughed, and held out a hand to gesture to the pterodon from earlier, which was now curiously circling around her.
“Noble aspirations, my friend. That’s all. And what’s wrong with that?”
“Well, nothing truly terrible, I suppose,” Mahuiz admitted. “It just seems rather untruthful, is all. Lies of omission and all that.”
“Oh, I’m doing no harm.”
“Not even to your…platform?”
Mahuiz snickered as they pointed again to the altisaur. Itzama merely waved her hand, prompting the long-necked dinosaur to lift her even higher.
“Especially not to it…Although, you are right in a sense. Some wings would be nice- Whoa!”
Displeased with Itzama’s preference, the altisaur gave a grumbling growl and reared its head, sending the soldier tumbling down the back of its neck and into the mud at its feet. Mahuiz shook their head as they stepped forward to help their friend.
“Well, you sure hurt its feelings!”

[Interesting how Pterodon Knight’s ability grants flying, yet any dinosaur can trigger it - even the non-flying ones!
Also, I don’t like using double dashes, but I guess I’ll use em in quotes…if I have to.]

Page Turners: DFC Story Winners ~
Congratulations to @horsecrash, @deg99, and @starch255 for winning this week’s contest!
This...is going to be an interesting week. We’ll talk about it more when we get to the commentary.
Tumblr media
@horsecrash — Abandoned Crewmates / Pterodon Wranglers
Let’s start with the small things. First note for wording: “You may play it” should be “You may play that card” re:Dark-Dweller Oracle, if I’m not mistaken. I like the flavor text on the front side, but it’s definitely overlong—and “the circling pterodons are” should be “were” to keep with the tenses. I think a lot of my general gripes this week will be about small notes on these cards, but this one’s got a lot of good things going for it. As for the actual card itself, though, it made me laugh.
Seriously, that’s absolutely great. This card made me smile! It made me think about these Ixalan (maybe) goblins who finally took control of the flying dinosaurs to get revenge. What I especially like is that it’s a bit of unexpected development, you know? The nervous feeling doesn’t turn into “dinosaurs eat them” but rather “let’s take to the skies and get revenge.” The elemental blueness is quite fitting and I rather enjoy this card for that, too. It’s fun, funny, flavorful, and just nice.
@deg99 — Angelic Record / Devilish Backmask
Tumblr media
Wow, I was double-checking my wording on the transforming side of things, and I thought there was something missed, but nope, you got some tricky stuff very correct! So this one was a close call, but I think that re-looking over all these submissions, I’m quite happy with how this card feels. Yet again, we’re in a mood for fun. I’m not emotionally overwhelmed but I’m chuffed, and that’s what this card is doing with a little bit of brutality and a lottle bit of world fun. This piece of Capenna combines music and magic and really makes gameplay difficult. I guess my only critique is that it’s an enemy-colored card in an shard set. But, whatever, maybe Capenna will have a different draft environment next time around? That doesn’t matter with this worldbuilding.
Gameplay-wise, it’s a fairly difficult method of constant Threaten effects, so that’s very much a good sign that you can HAVE that effect without it being too crazy. A solid couple of combat tricks that make merriment and mashing fit together is cool, but you know what’s also cool? Having to tap it. I’m serious—it’s a tactile method that makes it feel like you’re spinning a record. I personally don’t do that kind of stuff when I’m playing Magic, but what about the folks who do? It means something to add a little fun to the physical aspect of the table. Get in there and change up the music. Not bad.
@starch255 — Do Time / Make Time
Never seen Le Mis, tbh. I had a feeling that this was what it was from and honestly I don’t...care, especially? Not in a pejorative way, though, hear me out—the source material doesn’t really matter because this card is doing something unique, which is what I wanted from this contest in the first place. Aight? Aight, lemme try to get a little esoteric.
What this card is doing is showing the same event from two different perspectives, and in a pretty strange way too. ‘Do Time’ shows the officer assaulting you, but the card is what you’re casting, as if the card’s frame is less of a “first person as action” and almost more of a theatrical side? Like a novel’s perspective. This is what’s being done to you. And then on the flip side, the same thing! It’s borderline contradictory, quite poetic, really. I like it as a slice of the world because it’s two sides of the same conflict, and, well, maybe there’s one ‘right’ moral perspective, but in this universe, having those eyes matters. The law, however brutal, has its lens set. Quite interesting indeed.

Thank you all for your entries. Commentary when I can get it ‘n all. @abelzumi
