Ok ok ok I'm not Tryna start discourse but bluestars prophecy was my first ever warriors book and bluestar will always be my favourite so I'm gonna make some counterpoints to you about her being a Smajor character
bluestar has always been led by an intense loyalty and dedication to those she loves and cares for - this includes her mum, her sister, her clan, eventually Firepaw when he joins the clan, and she has a VERY strong moral compass when it comes to doing the right thing - when she sees thistleclaw teaching tigerpaw to hurt a then baby scourge she very much discourages it and is against it
Afaik scott is Not like that, he doesn't have an emotional or love-driven moral code, he does things because they're smart decisions in the long term or because he wants to. Granted I havent seen a ton of his stuff but I have seen his limited life and 3rd life perspectives and he is very much a singular team player there, there to look after himself and well if people align with him that's great he's got allies (jimmy and Martyn) but he won't go out of his way to care for them
Bluestars defiance of starclan in the first series is BECAUSE she gave herself to them and what the warrior code demanded so much - yes she broke clan rules by having kids with crookedstar but she did everything in her power to make sure they'd have a happy life and felt terrible that thrushpelt was willing to say they were his to save her reputation. She didn't do it out of a selfish want, she only ever wanted to help her clan and those she loved, and her becoming clan leader is emblematic of that want. When she rejects starclan so wholeheartedly in the first series it's because THINGS KEEP GOING WRONG WHEN SHES TRIED SO HARD TO STOP THEM FROM DOING THAT - starclan has never cared about the sacrifices she made to keep her loved ones and clan safe, she lost her mother, her sister, her kits, her mate, literally everything, and things STILL KEEP GETTING WORSE. it's not a demand that she deserves to have everything good, it's a cry for help that shouldn't something go right after she's tried so hard???
C!Scott isn't like that. He puts himself above others and inherently believes he will get the best if he just plays his cards right, and he is good at it, he's very competent at lasting a long time in life series and getting what he wants - the ruthlessness of gem driven by desperation kills him in secret life, Martyn's complete fucking about face kills him in limited life, and I'm pretty sure it's etho who gets him out in 3rd life by luck. He doesn't plan to look after the ones he cares about, because he cares about himself first and foremost. Yeah you can argue when he doesn't get what he wants he gets annoyed, but his is less of a 'why don't I get this don't I deserve it' and more of a 'oh fuck this didn't work. Ok new plan double down on getting what I want by appeasing to people cos they're easy to read and therefore account for'
I don't doubt Scott would make a bluestar adjacent character if he made a warrior cats oc BUT his character would honestly be closer to darktail or ashfur than bluestar and that's that on that.
(sorry you activated 13 year old me's unskippable cutscene sjdjsjsjja this isnt meant to be a serious argument I just love bluestar a lot and love talking about her)
OKAY 1. this is fucking awesome thank you 2. i am going to do something new and exciting (advocate for scott instead of beating him to death with sticks) because unfortunately this bluestar info has only made me believe she is a smajor character even more.
As a general note when I talk about smajor characters as a collective here I’m referring to characters more in the realm of esmp/traffic/rats/pirates/etc, less vampire scott or necromancer scott who are intended to be villainous.
Scott characters tend to operate under a “If I am not a Good Person I may as well die” rule, and consequently abide by a strict moral code to keep themselves feeling clean. For instance: traffic Scott will never go back on his word, he will avoid dishonesty, and he won’t take from others unless he is sure that he can repay them. He will never betray his seasonal primary ally (even when they betray him first), and will often give people things just because they asked him nicely. He stakes a lot of his own identity on this, because it is through being a “good person” that he justifies his superiority (and, by extension, his own existence); in his mind he deserves the best and *is* the best because he is such a good person. When things don’t go his way, he thinks he doesn’t deserve it because he has been nothing but good, so he tries to place a reason. He often assumes that somebody must “have a vendetta” against him, even if this somebody is the world (see: him asking if limlife episode 1 boogeyman is some kind of joke played on him for not giving in to the boogey curse in Last Life.) which is very Bluestar to me, convinced that her misfortunes are a divine punishment.
This is all to say that Scott does have a strict moral code and deep sense of loyalty. Being a “good person” and devoted partner in the ways he understands it are so ingrained into what he is that I think he definitely has the capacity to be a Bluestar if he were raised being taught clan values, even if his internal systems are often built around never letting gross emotions be fully felt rather than what those emotions compel him to do.
#ive always wanted to partake in pointless character debate on tumblr#considered maintagging this but didnt want people looking at your ask weird. sorry yall we serve fucked up scott here#“But bree” you might ask “what about pearl? He wasnt a very devoted partner then!”#and to that I say: pearl isnt a person to him. and neither is jimmy. Scott fucked up with both of them and unfortunately if he is not good-#and justified 100% of the time he loses his entire identity so convincing himself that they are incompetent or crazy so that he#doesnt have to self reflect is how he gets by. he would literally rather kill himself than earnestly admit fault for anything#… huh. about the above tags I dont remember the lore but is there any parallel there with the whole bright heart thing#genuine question bc I do not remember why blue star did that and I dont trust the wiki#(Trying to space out names so they dont tag)#I really hope this makes sense btw bc I feel like I usually list a lot more examples… but im tired#I can elaborate on any point here if need be ig. I dont talk about this aspect of him often because the literal entire fandom does already#Every scott analysis post out there is about his damn loyalty… anyways yeah scotts loyalty is transactional more often than emotional but#It’s still loyalty and also. hard to draw the line between where the emotions stop sometimes because he can stop giving a fuck about—#most things on a whim. How much scott genuinely cares about something is a forever undefinable concept#asks#he is genuinely a very good ally to have usually. like jimmy was very much the exception there#he does like helping people out he does. he’s just also emotionally detached so he tallies his favors and good deeds to bring up later if—#someone he’s helped decides to go against him. If that makes sense#sorry man I just keep talking. I love this blue animal…….#thanks for the ask genuinely I love when paragraphs about characters#anyways im gonna pass out and. Shakes myself STOP ADDING MORE TAGSSS i think im so tired man

Warnings: Yandere themes, kidnapping, afab!reader, canon typical Marvel violence. the reader is an undefined hero (but you can think of them as Spidergirl). No NSFW but both reader and Miles are 18+
Part #2 (The Perfect Girl)
part#3 (The Spider's Web)
Tumblr media
There's something about the New York nights, that leaves a faint melancholy glow across Miles's soul.
Some vanquished feeling that humbles him as the stars and moon look down laughing. Celestial bodies that mock him for every sin he's ever committed. Howling at the blood that drips from the edge of his claws.
Miles never thought he was an insomniac. It just so happened that most of his life and routine took place in the dead of night. It had all been a coincidence until he met you. Now he's not sure if it's bad habits or sheer serendipity. All he knows is that he needs to see your face before the night comes to an end.
He hadn't really met you. Not in the traditional sense at least. He'd been sent to kill you. An initiation from the sinister six. Back then he'd thought you were just another sanctimonious fool who was trying to play the role of the righteous hero. There had been many like you before. foolish and virtuous. All were left dead in some ally by daybreak. And yet when you'd landed punch after punch to his ribs. Your body slam caused him to spew blood from behind his mask. You were a tough bug to squish he'd give you that much.
Miles hadn't fallen in love with you that night. Nor the nights after that.
It wasn't love the first time your web dagger nearly missed his heart.
It wasn't love when he had you pinned between his body and the cold street concrete, as you tried to pry off his mask to gouge out his eyes.
It wasn't love when he'd shattered the bones in your leg and you'd been out of commission for a week.
It wasn't love when the two of you lay bleeding on a rooftop. Delusional enough from all the blood loss to try and trace constellations in the polluted night sky.
It wasn't love when you'd returned to that same rooftop the next week to beat him up. And he'd managed to lay a nasty blow to your face.
It hadn't been love all those times. Yet all he knows is that somewhere along the lines Miles Morales had fallen in love with the new hero in town.
He knows you're coming
Senses your presence right as one of the sinister six's weapon cartels blows up in the distance. You never were one to be caught in the aftermath. Ever the dramatic sweetheart, who didn't like to get her hands dirty.
He waits for the telltale sign of your feet hitting the rooftop to turn around. Mask on and heart on his sleeve. "Prowler" you greet, courteous as always. "Hey," he responds. Solid and simple and overflowing with every emotion he wishes he could spill at your feet.
His eyes roam over your suit. Modest and girly, all things you wouldn't expect from New York's only superhero. You look like a doll. All porcelain and ivory. How you've survived so long in this city is beyond him.
There's something wrong with you. Something Miles just can't put his finger on. Every time he looks at you it's like looking into a broken mirror. You're Disfigured, mangled, damaged. Yet all he sees in those shattered shards is the face of the boy he once thought he'd be.
You're the light of New York. The one that promises to save this nightmare of a city. Made up of frilly bows and dreams to big to keep locked up in your head. The rage of the city, of the civilians boils through your blood.
He's the Prowler. A boy born with rebellion in his bones and violence in his veins. A broken heart and a broken soul stitched together with barbwire and cheap glue. He's the sinister six's newest protege and uncle Aaron’s last hope.
He's the villain and you're the hero. You shouldn't be in love.
You skip across the rooftop, arms locked behind your back and spinning when it takes your fancy. You've long since shed any fear you may have once held for him. Standing on your tip toes you rest your chin on his shoulder. "Whatcha looking at?" you ask, with a voice filled with daisies and the summer breeze. "Pieces for my new suit were in the warehouse you just blew up." Oh how Miles wishes he could throw you over the edge. Watch you fall to your death. Maybe then you'd stop plaguing his every thought.
"Sorry, Prowler just doing my job." You sound so carefree, it almost reminds him of how he used to be when his dad had still been alive. "You're an insufferable little insect, you know that?" He feels you smile  from under your silk mask."I try"
You're not meant to be the hero. He knows this in his bones. You're too naive and soft-hearted to deal with the terrors of this city. More than anything else Miles Just wants to drag you away. To lock you up somewhere. Somewhere only he knows. A home where the burdens and terrors of this world can't find either of you. A place where you two can finally become one.
But you're not him and he's not you. All this is just a puppy dog crush. And puppy love is for baby-faced boys who didn't watch the life drain from their father's eyes. It's for sweet boys who didn't have their first kill at ten years old.
"what's it like being the hero?" Miles asks, eyes glazing over the stars, staring straight at destiny. Who chose their roles anyway? Who made him the monster carved from rage and pain? Who painted you as the Guardian angel in gold? Why couldn't he be the hero?
You don't respond. Breath hitching and for a second Miles thinks he's hit a nerve. No one ever said doing the right thing was easy. He wonders if you claw away at your own soul. Peeling off your flesh each night to replace it with a silk suit and copper-tainted values.
He imagines you throwing cheap knives at the night sky, watching as God's light deflects them back into your heart.
You walk over to the edge of the roof and sit down. And for the first time ever Miles thinks he sees you for who you really are. Actually sees you. A kid with the weight of the world on their shoulders. An onomatopoeia of breaking glass and the cheers of the cities oppressed.
"They're coming for me, Prowler." You pull your knees to your chest. Eyes looking over the city skyline. "I don't mind. I knew what I was getting into...It's just."
"Just what" his voice reverberates through his mask, he's grateful the metal and digital layers keep the  anxiety from seeping through.
"I just never thought I'd die this way" There's a smile in your voice. A  final giggle before an impending war. Miles takes a step back. Head heavy as the weight of your words crash down on him. "I saw Venom lurking through my apartment before I came here. They found me, I think they plan to strike tonight."
He wishes he could tear this city apart, break its seams, and rapture its pillars. He can't let you die. He just can't. With a forceful tug on your shoulder he turns you his way. Mask slipping away as he slides his finger under your silk facade as he pulls it away.
Miles's lips capture yours. As he kisses the dying stars trapped under your tongue and behind your teeth. His lips trail down your neck as he kisses the fatigue from your bones. Metal claws clutched tightly around you as if you may decay if he lets go.
Sometimes he wants to dismantle his ribcage, piece by piece. Pickaway at the ribs and offer you his blackened heart on a silver platter. It's not his fault that he fell in love with the girl stitched together from radioactive spider bites and misplaced nightmares.
every time Miles sees you he feels a certain feeling like the world turned upside down. Like he woke up fundamentally broken with no way to piece himself back.
His claws trace up, gliding past your shoulders' to your neck. You don't refuse him, feeling safe for the first time since you dawned your mask and made your vows. You let him touch your neck as your naivety shines through. He won't hurt me, you think. But oh, how wrong you are.
Miles wraps his fingers around your neck. Squeezing and squeezing as he watches you claw at metal. You look so beautiful suspended over the edge like this. There's something about being half awake and half asleep and half dead and half alive that makes you glow. He wants to say something along the lines of 'I love you'. He doubts you're conscious enough to hear him.
You're not his, not exactly. But Miles can't bear to let anyone else lay claim to you. It's a sickness he knows. But he'd rather be sick than lose you.
He'll keep you safe, he swears it. By the time you awaken, he'll have found somewhere safe for the two of you to hideout until he can convince his "mentors" to spare your life. It'll be fine, It has to be, after all...
He's Miles Morales, the Prowler

[ID: a banner for a TTRPG. there is a light tan background and large brown text that reads "the narrator paradox". smaller blue text beneath it reads "all you've ever been is a storyteller ... now the story is fighting against you". there are tilted blue and orange boxes behind the word paradox. end ID]
There is a way the story is meant to go. You have seen the future. The past and the present. You know the hero of this tale, and where they end up. You know why they go there and every ally and foe along the way. Every fleck of sand moved beneath their boot has been foretold and defined and the words that tell of it slip from your lips like the oldest of hymns …
So if that little bastard could just STOP going off script that would be really great. What do you MEAN the protagonist isn’t listening to you!? This is a STORY—don’t they know they’re in a STORY? They aren’t meant to have … have … AUTONOMY or whatever other silly thing has gotten in their head.
You need a raise. Not that the human concept of money influences your role as a narrator in any way. But, like … anything would be nice. A raise. A swift kick in the head. Maybe the undefinable concept of storytelling will talk about a union.
Sorry—they’ve done WHAT now? Okay, chat’s over. There’s a protagonist to wrangle.
Tumblr media
[ID: a lineart drawing of one open book and two closed books on a light tan background. end ID]
The Narrator Paradox is a one page solo-narrating game where you try to tell a story ... if your protagonist will let you. In it, you determine the five acts of your story based on an oracle, then make rolls for your plot beats to see if you can wrangle your protagonist into the prescribed narrative. If you can't, they defy you and take the story into their own hands. Wrestle the story into shape against a rebellious hero, or lose them forever and have to finish the story without them in it.
What you'll need:
The Major Arcana from a tarot deck
Two 6-sided dice
A coin
The inspirations for the game include The Stanley Parable, The Princess Bride, and Stardust

𝕊𝕦𝕔𝕙 ℍ𝕒𝕡𝕡𝕪 ℂ𝕒𝕞𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕤
[Interactive fiction, Demo TBA]
Tumblr media
𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕊𝕥𝕠𝕣𝕪
You play as a counselor for the understaffed and underfunded Cloverleaf program. Your job is to organize and oversee a cabin camping holiday for children from troubled homes. Working hard alongside you are your four allies (and potential friends/lovers) Basil Laurier, Anita Merrick and the siblings Flo and Reem Malak.
Unfortunately, the campsite you're tasked with preparing is nothing short of decrepit. Still, you'll make the best of it, right? As you and your colleagues undertake repairs and cleaning efforts (and possibly get to know each other a little better), you keep finding yourself in increasingly unsettling situations.
But surely there's no reason to worry, right?
Tumblr media
𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕃𝕠𝕔𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟
Welcome to Camp Solace!
This picturesque cabin campsite is situated in the middle of nowhere, directly next to the beautiful Lake Solace and flanked by acres of woodland, far removed from the bustle of civilization. In fact, it'd take you quite a while to reach the nearest town in case of an emergency. You'd best make sure nothing goes wrong.
Camp Solace was established in the 1980s. In 2022, the site was bought out by the wealthy Laurier family who plan to overturn it to appeal to “a higher class of customers”. But not before offering it to the Cloverleaf program for the season, free of charge. The things people do for their public image…
𝕋𝕙𝕖 ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣𝕤
For the duration of the holiday as well as its lengthy preparations and follow-up work, you will be relying on the support of your four closest colleagues.
Basil Laurier (M, trans, late twenties): The eldest son of the Laurier family. He's volunteering at Cloverleaf. Wealthy, though he tries not to seem it. Van-lifer, nature lover and dedicated spiritualist. Skilled craftsman. Enjoys building things and blowing them up after. Harmonious, cheerful and snarky.
Anita Merrick (F, mid twenties): Student of psychology doing her internship with the Cloverleaf program. Has a bachelor's degree in information technology. Smart, kind and chronically sleep-deprived. Enjoys a good book and fancy coffee. Certified softie. Easily scared (she's in for a bad time, the poor thing).
Reem Malak (F, early thirties): Music teacher, band guitarist and vocalist. Volunteering at Cloverleaf. Flo’s older half-sister. Also plays drums and percussion, sax, piano, bass… and bagpipes. Impulsive, passionate and energetic. Enjoys doing yoga and lifting weights. The cool girl. Very tall.
Flo Malak (M, late twenties): Martial arts teacher who gives classes for both adults and children. Also volunteering at Cloverleaf. Taekwondo, Krav Maga. Silent, kind and not without his quirks. Reem calls him “socially challenged”. Enjoys obscure media and monster movies. Even taller than his sister.
𝕋𝕙𝕖 ℙ𝕝𝕒𝕪𝕖𝕣 ℂ𝕙𝕒𝕣𝕒𝕔𝕥𝕖𝕣
Your player character's age will be kept ambiguous, though it’s implied that you’re in same age range as the romance options (meaning your twenties to thirties).
Play as M, F or NB; gay, straight, bi, ace or keep your orientation undefined (Note: Such Happy Campers is very character-driven with a focus on romantic love and interpersonal connections).
Customize your looks and vibe; choose your strengths, personality and outfit!

Recently caught up on the Black Butler anime and manga and it just reminded me of how much I love the series. Also made me realize that the last time I caught up was so long ago that I’ve never written any meta for it and I have things to say:
Obviously the selling point of the series and what fascinates me the most is the relationship between Sebastian and Ciel (note: NOT a romantic relationship! Relationship as in a connection between two people). They have one of my favorite kind of relationships which is one that doesn’t really fit in any typical relationship boxes. It’s too nebulous, too flexible for it. Are they father and son? No not really. Are they siblings? Definitely not although they do occasionally fight that way. Hero and sidekick? Nope. Cousins? No. Teacher and student? No, they switch those roles around too much. The closest I can get is Bodyguard and Client but even that doesn’t fit. The only right word is partners but partners in what is not clear.
There’s multiple motivations on Sebastian’s side. He’s clearly intrigued by Ciel and by humanity in general, albeit not enough to feel anything about killing them. He’s hungry, eager to eat Ciel’s soul. He’s invested in Ciel and his goals because of this. But he’s also protective of Ciel and Ciel’s mission. Somewhere along the line that change occurred and imo we see that change confirmed during the Campania arc.
Ciel returns this new understanding when he orders Sebastian to rest after fighting zombies all night and comments on having never seen Sebastian injured before. The barrier of untouchable immortality between them has come down a bit. They have always schemed together but in the arcs that follow they seem to be working more together than working alongside each other.
Above all else, my hc is that Sebastian is bored, or was bored, with the life of a demon who quickly devoured souls. And Ciel, Ciel is interesting. He doesn’t act like the humans Sebastian has eaten before and he’s entirely unafraid of him, confidently striding into his own doom. That’s a new experience for him. It’s worth enough, adds some undefined richness to Ciel’s soul, that makes it worth the wait.
Ciel’s motivations for beginning the relationship are incredibly transparent. He was in danger and he cried out for help. He was weak and needed a strong ally. He was afraid and needed a protector. Over time that grew into having duties as the Queen’s Watchdog and needing an impossible secret weapon to wield.
Ciel’s motivation to continue the relationship and the way he reacts to Sebastian is more complex. He likes being the king, likes feeling invincible, and Sebastian’s presence gives him that. But at several points during the series he is forced to stand on his own. He faces down Madam Red alone, he destroys the circus’ “Father” alone, he utilizes social engineering to ingratiate himself to the other students alone, and he has to keep both himself and Lizzie safe alone on the Campania.
Of course Sebastian joins him eventually in every one of these situations but slowly Ciel realizes that he can’t rely on Sebastian to save him 100% of the time and begins to develop skills of his own. Of course this comes to a head on the Campania when he sees Sebastian get seriously injured for the first time and has to come to terms with his invincibility being fallible. At that point he’s faced with a choice, to give in to fear and lash out at Sebastian for not being perfect or to accept the limitations and resign himself to being scared yet charge forward bravely. He stops seeing Sebastian as untouchable and while he certainly doesn’t forget that Sebastian isn’t human, he begins to treat him more as a person who is working with him towards the same goal. He even reciprocates the protectiveness a tad, in asking Sebastian to rest and also in his taunts to Ronald that “his butler could never be so weak as to lose to him” (paraphrasing).
The manga bears this pattern out, with the two of them sticking closer together than before when they go into the forest, seeking treatment together, not spending time alone, sticking close for the idol arc and partnering up for the current arc. Some of that closeness is fear, but it’s also an acknowledgement that they work better together than independently. There’s less of Ciel as a damsel in distress and more fighting together, tricking people together, discussing mysteries together.
And even still, the relationship is impossible to pin down. Partners in crime implies a similar skill level and a similar age (generalizing) which is certainly not the case here. Sebastian can do pretty much anything Ciel can, except for the things that only Ciel can do, such as leveraging his peerage and making connections based on human emotions, which Sebastian doesn’t have and doesn’t understand. The differences in age, in socialization, in levels of empathy, in species, in opinion, they are too tangled to come up with a single label and I love it.
I could gush about all the other reasons I love this series but it’s late and I have work in the morning so I’ll cut it here for now. Anyway, would love to hear people’s thoughts.

It is incredibly isolating to navigate through fandom as an aromantic person. Aro experiences are so varied, and there is no definite aro experience that encapsulates the alienation that fandom spaces cause for certain people.
Fandom is mostly built and structured on shipping. And if not, the blorbofication of characters, which tends to go down the shipping pipeline; where does that leave the romance repulsed aro person who genuinely does not want to see any form of shipping? Platonic dynamics, right?
Yeah, sure. But by platonic dynamics, it's only "best friends" or "family" right? Where does that leave the aro folks with undefined labels? No, qprs aren't a get-out-of-jail card.
And qprs- they have no rules or standards set upon them by society, not even having a clear definition for what it is, because not all qprs are the same. Yet, for some reason, it ended up becoming the "nonbinary" option to a lot of people- not romantic or "regular" platonic? Qpr it is, right?
But where does that leave the aro folk who don't want a qpr? Who don't wish to see characters depicted in pairs or trios or so forth- who embrace the lack of a partner?
And these concepts presented; when aro folk talk about them, do you care? And if you do, do you understand? Do you try to?
If you aren't aro, but wish to be supportive, are you a genuine ally? Do you raise the concerns of aro folk you share the space with?
Or do you take a look at these concepts- and decide you understand them "well" enough? Do you decide to speak for aro folks instead?
Do you depict relationships outside of romance because you believe in the importance of platonic relationships? Will you accept the fact that not all platonic interactions will be familial or "best friends"?
Can you accept depictions of qprs outside of "more than friends, less than lovers"? Are you willing to accept it is not just "best friends" or "romance lite"? Will you accept that nothing is inherently romantic- and characters in a qpr may fall under your standards of lovers?
Can you resist the urge to put every character in a pair or trio or group? Are you comfortable with the notion of characters finding more joy in being by themselves, outside of all those lenses you see them in?
It's good if you can.
And if you can't, at the very least, do you understand why some aro folk in your space are upset? Embittered by your favorite ships? Starving for representation?
Did you depict these characters with these concepts with the knowledge that aromanticism is fluid?

He wouldn't call her a friend, which many claim that's all they could potentially be, instead leaving it undefined. Undefined can become friend, allies, work partners and even, dare I say it, lovers.
"But that quote just proves that they're nothing more than friends"
No. It proves that Azriel hasn't even taken the time to consider what their relationship is, BUT it sure has got him thinking about it now.
Feysand were friends before romantically involved. Elain and Azriel were friends before having any attraction to each other. I don't understand why Gwyn and Azriel have to be the exception to the friends-to-lovers rule.
I think Az x Gwyn have the best potential and make more sense as a pair, even if they were clearly not ready by the end of ACOSF. Even better, because IF Azriel and Gwyn are endgame, I want to see it happen in their own book and not in someone else's, or in a bonus chapter that may or may not count depending on the argument of the day.
At the end of the day, SJM left it open ended and undefined for a reason, and I look forward to seeing where she takes that "but..." with these characters.

Tell us more abt your hyacinthus winter soldier au 👀👀
HELLO thank you for giving me an excuse to talk your ear off about it, you will probably regret it <3
To be completely honest I still haven't planned anything that's worth of an actual fic (who do you take me for? An organized person? HA) but I would lie if I said that I didn't think about it a lot, so
As you know, somehow in this AU Hyacinthus came back to life and started working for the emperors
The dynamics of how, exactly, it all happened are pretty undefined as of now, but that's secondary information and it's not really important. (Maybe.)
What you need to know though is that Commodus is the one who takes him in, because of course he does. Hyacinthus is the perfect revenge against Apollo, after all, both because he's known to be his greatest love, and seeing him side against him would hurt Apollo a lot, and because, whatever happened, Commodus would always have leverage against Apollo, in a "You don't want to do what I tell you? Well look what I can do to your precious little flower" sort of way
He also uses this as an excuse to get back at Hyacinthus himself, too—something that is a direct result his festering inferiority complex and the can of worms that are, again, his feelings upon seeing the one man Apollo's name is always associated with
Hyacinthus is a better man and fighter than him even when he's brainwashed and he just CAN'T stand it
It all worsens once he sees how much Lester is still attached to Hyacinthus, and how hard he tries to get him to snap back. He never cared that much for him after all, did he?
On Hyacinthus' end this all borders less on the side of drama and more on the side of comedy LMAO
While not being able to discern right from wrong atm, as he's been coerced into absolute obedience through very shady means, he has this unexplainable feeling inside him that he really, really doesn't like Commodus (which intensifies every time Commodus starts another one of his long rants about how bad and evil and selfish Apollo is and about how he'll absolutely get his revenge) and he expresses that through little jabs he makes in his direction that Commodus can't really do anything about because they are worded in a way that makes them seem innocuous
On the other hand, he's on civil terms with the rest of the "staff", so to speak, and some even respect him because of how skilled he is (specifically Lityerses) so he does have some allies there
They don't actually know who he is though since, while he works for the emperors, Hyacinthus is never referred to by his own name, but always by some sort of epithet
(This is why Meg never made the connection either, despite knowing the myth well enough to inform Grover that Hyacinthus was Apollo's boyfriend)
It's mostly a measure they take so Hyacinthus doesn't remember his past before they're actually done using him
As for Apollo and Hyacinthus' relationship in this, it's a bit complicated, because Apollo changes his stance and tries to get him on his side the moment Hyacinthus' disguise drops, while Hyacinthus doesn't remember him. At all. So his efforts don't really work
Which results in a lot of frustration and hurt feelings
Despite this, Hyacinthus' unexplainable feelings persist. And he's very confused :)
I'm still not sure when this would be set—I wanted to either limit this to The Dark Prophecy or make it a "he appears occasionally as a spy or something until they find out who he is" thing that spans over the five books (without actually retelling the whole story though because holy shit that would be exhausting) but that's something that can be figured out later oof
Anyway, keep in mind that this is all just a result of my daydreaming, so if I actually write something concrete about this, some plot points might change!! And also the dynamics!! And the vibes in general!!! My brain is just a dumpster fire tbh so expect a lot of mental U-turns here

There's valid critiques of Taika and his work and I'm not talking about that right now, but the intense recent focus on him, his sexuality, and the accusation of "appropriating" queer culture is so fucking ridiculous, self-obsessed, and racist it blows my mind.
Like, why be mad he called himself a gay icon? He's been called that for years, and him acknowledging that just isn't an issue. Straight white women have been called gay icons for close to a century without any issue? And if a straight man were to call himself a gay icon as well I don't see a problem with straight men choosing to align themselves with the queer community.
But also... I don't think people would take so much issue with him if he openly identified as straight tbh. All the accusations of queerbaiting are ridiculous, but nothing he's done is even close to homophobic where if an openly straight man said something like he was a gay icon I don't think people would be as up in arms. It really comes off like a discomfort at someone being undefined and the demand for complete open access to celebrities' lives as if anyone is owed an explanation for how they identify their sexuality.
But goddddd people straight up lying about Thor and making up rumors that are not true is wild. People said he was queerbaiting when he said the movie was "so gay" (he was asked if it was gay!!) and when it was proven he was not then people want to try and figure out a way to dissect two words to prove that "so gay" is overselling the gay content (multiple openly queer characters who discuss being queer) and therefore problematic. saying he misgendered a trans character (this did not happen) or saying there were "man in a skirt" jokes (literally not true?? the best I got as what this could be referring to is Zeus lifting his toga in a kinda silly way as he walked down the steps)
All of this is literally just so fuuucking insane because it hinges on the idea that "Taika is exploiting the queer community" which makes no sense because he doesn't actually?? Profit by allying himself with the queer community? Like... his bag is in Thor and Marvel. Choosing to ally himself with the queer community is a risk he's taking when the biggest money maker he has is a fanbase of straight white men. (Who, for the record, are not happy about Thor having such a focus on women and queer people?)
Like! I just wish people would unpack what it means to view a moc as inherently an outsider and an antagonist to the queer community. Especially focused on that he's "stealing" or exploiting them (whatever the fuck that means) by virtue of just... incorporating queer stories into his work or supporting queer communities. Or, why people view him as egotistical and that he's trying to force himself into the spotlight from him just? Joking around? Because I stg other than him making jokes he is soooo incredibly humble and quick to give praise and credit to people. Along with him absolutely using his position of entering Hollywood to uplift marginalized communities. Like! Every project he runs he makes an effort to be as diverse as possible. I just hate also that he's really the guy doing the most at the moment for uplifting Indigenous communities in media, including queer Indigenous people too, but (mostly) white gays wanna be so fucking irritating for no reason omfg.
All this over a guy who hasn't even said that he's straight! Where the more vague he is about his sexuality the more people double down on calling him a homophobic cishet!

The junta have explicitly justified their coup as a response to the “continuous deterioration of the security situation” plaguing Niger and complained that it and other countries in the Sahel “have been dealing for over 10 years with the negative socioeconomic, security, political and humanitarian consequences of NATO’s hazardous adventure in Libya.” Even ordinary Nigeriens backing the junta have done the same.[...]
Only years [after enacting regime change] would a UK House of Commons Foreign Affairs Committee report publicly determine, echoing the conclusions of other post-mortems, that charges of an impending civilian massacre were “not supported by the available evidence” and that “the threat to civilians was overstated and that the rebels included a significant Islamist element” that carried out numerous atrocities of its own.
Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), and John Kerry (D-Mass.) all called for a no-fly zone. “I love the military ... but they always seem to find reasons why you can’t do something rather than why you can,” complained McCain. The American Enterprise Institute’s Danielle Pletka said it would be “an important humanitarian step.” The now-defunct Foreign Policy Initiative (FPI) think tank gathered a who’s who of neoconservatives to repeatedly urge the same. In a letter to then-President Barack Obama, they quoted back Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize speech in which he argued that “inaction tears at our conscience and can lead to more costly intervention later.”
Then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, reportedly instrumental in persuading Obama to act, was herself swayed by similar arguments. Friend and unofficial adviser Sidney Blumenthal assured her that, once Gaddafi fell, “limited but targeted military support from the West combined with an identifiable rebellion” could become a new model for toppling Middle Eastern dictators. Pointing to the similar, deteriorating situation in Syria, Blumenthal claimed that “the most important event that could alter the Syrian equation would be the fall of Gaddafi, providing an example of a successful rebellion.”[...]
Despite grave and often-stated reservations, Obama and NATO got UN authorization for a no-fly zone. Clinton was privately showered with email congratulations, not just from Blumenthal and Slaughter (“bravo!”; “No-fly! Brava! You did it!”), but even from then-Bloomberg View Executive Editor James Rubin (“your efforts ... will be long remembered”). Pro-war voices like Pletka and Iraq War architect Paul Wolfowitz immediately began moving the goalposts by discussing Gaddafi’s ouster, suggesting escalation to prevent a U.S. “defeat,” and criticizing those saying Libya wasn’t a vital U.S. interest. NATO’s undefined war aims quickly shifted, and officials spoke out of both sides of their mouths. Some insisted the goal wasn’t regime change, while others said Gaddafi “needs to go.” It took less than three weeks for FPI Executive Director Jamie Fly, the organizer of the neocons’ letter to Obama, to go from insisting it would be a “limited intervention” that wouldn’t involve regime change, to professing “I don’t see how we can get ourselves out of this without Gaddafi going.”
After only a month, Obama and NATO allies publicly pronounced they would stay the course until Gaddafi was gone, rejecting the negotiated exit put forward by the African Union. “There is no mission creep,” NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen insisted two months later. Four months after that, Gaddafi was dead — captured, tortured and killed thanks in large part to a NATO airstrike on the convoy he was traveling in.
The episode was considered a triumph. “We came, we saw, he died,” Clinton joked to a reporter upon hearing the news. Analysts talked about the credit owed to Obama for the “success.” [...] [In October 2011], Clinton traveled to Tripoli and declared “Libya’s victory” as she flashed a peace sign.
“It was the right thing to do,” Obama told the UN, presenting the operation as a model that the United States was “proud to play a decisive role” in. Soon discussion moved to exporting this model elsewhere, like Syria. Hailing the UN for having “at last lived up to its duty to prevent mass atrocities,” then-Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth called to “extend the human rights principles embraced for Libya to other people in need,” citing other parts of the Middle East, the Ivory Coast, Myanmar and Sri Lanka.[...]
Gaddafi’s toppling not only led hundreds of Tuareg mercenaries under his employ to return to nearby Mali but also caused an exodus of weapons from the country, leading Tuareg separatists to team up with jihadist groups and launch an armed rebellion in the country. Soon, that violence triggered its own coup and a separate French military intervention in Mali, which quickly became a sprawling Sahel-wide mission that only ended nine years later with the situation, by some accounts, worse than it started. According to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, the majority of the more than 400,000 refugees in the Central Sahel were there because of the violence in Mali.
Mali was far from alone. Thanks to its plentiful and unsecured weapons depots, Libya became what UK intelligence labeled the “Tesco” of illegal arms trafficking, referring to the British supermarket chain. Gaddafi’s ouster “opened the floodgates for widespread extremist mayhem” across the Sahel region, retired Senior Foreign Service officer Mark Wentling wrote in 2020, with Libyan arms traced to criminals and terrorists in Niger, Tunisia, Syria, Algeria and Gaza, including not just firearms but also heavy weaponry like antiaircraft guns and surface-to-air missiles. By last year, extremism and violence was rife throughout the region, thousands of civilians had been killed and 2.5 million people had been displaced.
Things are scarcely better in “liberated” Libya today. The resulting power vacuum produced exactly what Iraq War critics predicted: a protracted (and forever close-to-reigniting) civil war involving rival governments, neighboring states using them as proxies, hundreds of militias and violent jihadists. Those included the Islamic State, one of several extremist groups that made real Clinton’s pre-intervention fear of Libya “becoming a giant Somalia.” By the 2020 ceasefire, hundreds of civilians had been killed in Libya, nearly 900,000 needed humanitarian assistance, half of them women and children, and the country had become a lucrative hotspot for slave trading. Today, Libyans are unambiguously worse off than before NATO intervention. Ranked 53rd in the world and first in Africa by the 2010 UN Human Development Index, the country had dropped fifty places by 2019. Everything from GDP per capita and the number of fully functioning health care facilities to access to clean water and electricity sharply declined. Far from improving U.S. standing in the Middle East, most of the Arab world opposed the NATO operation by early 2012.

something about taylor being called an “unflinching queer ally”. ignoring her undefined sexuality, advocating for one equality petition and making a music video about it then moving on isn’t exactly peak allyship.

Cishumanist: Achieving an undefined lifespan and an ageless body would be so sad. You would have to watch everyone around you die.
Me: First of all that may already be the case unless you somehow have the ability to llifelink yourself to your loved ones or something.
Most importantly, the goal is wide access. Maybe a poorly-written fantasy villain wants to be the only immortal in the world but us real villains want to break the natural order and wish for the kind of earthly utopia that will make any god weep in shame.
Past Me, posing behind me: And any warrior of light who knows what they're doing will share their strategies and glories with their allies so that the paradise at the end of the quest is not empty!

(This arc has more fuzzier parts than the first, and I'll take criticism btw!!)
After his fight against Sonic and Knuckles, Emerl went to a location that is currently unknown. Rouge asks Emerl what had happened, and Emerl explains that Knuckles is no longer working alone, and his partner can wield the power of the Master Emerald. Rouge is surprised and asks about the appearance of the person Knuckles had worked with, and Emerl admits he couldn't get a good look at his unaltered appearance due to him only exiting his super form as he fell into water, and because the person had no distinct articles of clothing (Sonic didn't have his jacket on as he fought). Rouge seems annoyed at how inconvenient this makes the search, before a third undefined person tells Rouge that she should try to locate Knuckles, and then learn about his partner. Rouge nods, accepting the task. Emerl says he'll find out who the person is, but the third person insists on Rouge doing it, as Rouge is stealthier and less blood thirty, as well as her knowing more people. Emerl begrudgingly agrees, and Rouge looks smug due to her being better than Emerl for this. The third person reminds the two that there's a reason they need the Master Emerald, to get Dr. Robotnik back.
Emerl was an android made by Gerald Robotnik over fifty years ago and was created to serve the Robotnik bloodline. Dr. Ivo Robotnik, also known as Dr. Eggman, has Emerl's allegiance.
(This part is fuzzy at the moment, but it's important later) Dr. Eggman is currently trapped in a place that's not exactly on Earth. (I might take inspiration from special stages or Null Space, but I'd appreciate ideas. It's supposed to be like the Darklands from Trollhunters. Eggman is still able to live there and create robots, but he wants out)
Rouge is an ally of the Eggman Empire, but her motivations are unknown currently. She's a community college student, and lives on campus. The third person seems very interested in Dr. Robotnik and seems to idolize him.
Emerl and Rouge seem to be brought together by the third person, even though it seems that nobody really cares about each other.
(This part will just be a summary, since I don't know how it'd go down.) Rouge would look for Knuckles and find him and Sonic. Rouge recognizes Sonic as one of the track team athletes, and she also finds herself crushing on Knuckles. Something would happen where Rouge is shown as being an antagonist, and also her name would likely be used. Rouge would end up retreating in the end.
She meets up with Emerl and their common ally and informs them that Knuckles' new partner is Sonic, a highschooler who's a track runner. Her ally is taken aback, and inquires further, before excusing himself. This is when the common ally is revealed to be none other than Starline, who is Sonic's science teacher. Starline thinks to himself, recounting how Sonic had always been the adventurous type, and then a wicked smile grew on his face as he thought about how this could be advantageous. The school has records of Sonic, and the fact that he normally holds power over his new adversary. Starline begins to take a subtle interest in Sonic in school, asking Sonic more questions, and focusing more attention on him.
Sonic becomes stressed about his workload, juggling school, track, training with Knuckles, and learning about the Master Emerald. Sonic notices Starline's interest, and just chalks it up to him being worried about his stress. Most afternoons, if Sonic doesn't have track, Knuckles will book up his afternoon with either training or telling him about the history of the Master Emerald. The story of Tikal and Chaos, Chao, (and maybe why Dr. Robotnik was sealed away, though I'm not sure why or how it happens yet).
Over time, Amy becomes gradually suspicious of Sonic, as he's repeatedly had to cancel study sessions (Note: She's an honors English student and helps Sonic) with her with no given reason. She's concerned, makes off handed comments to Sticks and Sally, who are both friends of hers. She also asks Tails about what's going on, but she gets nowhere with it. Amy is also a babysitter, often looking after Cream while Vanilla is busy.
Knuckles has told Sonic about the Chao and how despite their cutesy appearance, they're scoundrels, tricky things. The Chao have hardly interacted with mankind ever since Chaos's defeat at the hands of Tikal, and Knuckles describes what a Chao looks like to Sonic. Sonic doesn't see the point of the lesson and doesn't think about it further.
When Sonic finds time to study with Amy, she's busy babysitting Cream, but Amy asks Vanilla if she would agree to letting her study with Sonic while babysitting, and Vanilla agrees. Sonic is grateful, when Amy tells him this, and while they're studying, Amy takes time to try to figure out what's got Sonic so busy recently. She's been meaning to have a conversation for a while but hasn't gotten a good chance. Sonic struggles to come up with a good excuse, before redirecting the conversation, telling Amy that he hasn't seen Cream in a while. Amy immediately goes to find Cream, but she's not inside. Amy checks the backyard and sees a bracelet (or something) belonging to Cream on the ground, but Cream is nowhere to be found. Amy panics, and checks the house again, as Sonic looks outside, before getting a strange feeling. He quickly runs back inside to grab his bag containing the Master Emerald and tells Amy that Cream most likely was outside.
Amy apologizes to Sonic, and says she has to look for Cream, and Sonic says that he'll help her. The two split up, and search for Cream, Amy calling for her, Sonic relying on his Emerald to guide him. Sonic eventually finds Cream, and she'd being led away by a Chao. Sonic is shocked, and Sonic shouts to Cream, which alerts Amy. Sonic tries to get the Chao away from Cream, but both put up a fight. The Chao tries to hit Sonic to stall for time, and Cream cries, saying that Sonic shouldn't hurt Cheese, the Chao. Sonic tried to explain but his main focus was on Cream's safety. "What's going on?" Rouge steps out of the bushes, hesitating as she made eye contact with Sonic, and looking surprised at the scene before her. "Rouge?" Sonic is surprised but is now on guard even more. Well, this just got much more interesting." Rouge replies as Cream hides behind Sonic, sniffling. "Chao, you know what to do." Rouge says as she steps forward. Cream cowers and Sonic continues trying to protect her. "You're not getting anywhere near Cream." Sonic keeps Cream close as she hugs his leg. It wasn't Rouge's intention to use Cream, but she decides to play along, to scare Sonic. Sonic looks at his odds against Rouge and the Chao, and then thinks about keeping Cream uninjured, and decides the safest option is going super, so he reaches into his bag to grab his Emerald, and Rouge attacks him before he can power up. This continues for as bit, and Amy finally catches up with them, seeing what's unfolding, but not getting involved. Amy witnesses Sonic go Super and is stunned. Sonic tells Cream to go find Amy, or go home, and grabs the Chao to keep it from interfering. Cream nods and runs towards her house, and finds Amy, who was watching. Amy leads Cream to safety. Sonic and Rouge continue their fight, and Rouge ends up sneakily grabbing the Emerald out of his bag, and dropping a fake Emerald on the ground as she slips the real one into her bag to confuse Sonic. She goes for the fake Emerald, but Sonic beats her to it, and grabs it. After more combat to get the thought of him dropping the emerald off his mind, Rouge flees with the real Emerald, and Sonic de transforms as she flees, not thinking anything of it.
Sonic calms down, tries to brush off the dirt on him, and walks back to Cream's house. As soon as Sonic gets back, Amy asks about everything that had happened. Sonic denies anything supernatural happening and blames his mild injuries and dirtiness on him being clumsy. Amy tells Sonic to stop lying, and that she saw him fighting, and saw him go blonde. Sonic caves, explaining what's going on. Amy was in disbelief for a while, but she couldn't bring herself to believe he was crazy. She asked him if he could prove anything, besides the "Super Sonic" thing, since she saw that. Sonic denies, until Amy says that she could tell others about this, and Sonic just tells her that he'll introduce her to Knuckles if she kept her mouth shut, and Amy enthusiastically agrees. After, Sonic and Amy tell Cream to not tell Vanilla about this, and Cream reluctantly agrees, even though she feels bad about keeping a secret from her mom.
After Vanilla gets home, Amy is paid for her babysitting, and she insists that Sonic introduces her to Knuckles soon. Sonic realizes that Knuckles would probably be really angry about this and tells Amy it may take a few days. Amy says that's fine, but she doesn't want to wait forever. Sonic understands, and the two part ways.
When Sonic gets back, he debates on telling Knuckles about Amy, knowing he'd get upset. Sonic consults Tails first, who is surprised hearing the story, and tells Sonic that there's probably more to worry about than just Amy knowing, since Rouge and the Chao could have bigger implications. Sonic reluctantly agrees, and goes to tell Knuckles, who did in fact, get upset, saying this could be a liability. Sonic agrees, and apologizes, explaining the situation, and Knuckles becomes more sympathetic, but he's still upset. Once Sonic mentions stuff about Rouge and inquisitive, Knuckles becomes more on Guard, asking questions, wondering why Rouge allied with a Chao and the implications. Sonic says he doesn't know enough, and he'll keep his guard up.
Eventually, Sonic would introduce Amy and Knuckles, and she'd be very enthusiastic about everything, which caught Knuckles off guard. Amy would bombard Knuckles with questions, to which Knuckles happily answered, enjoying talking about history and telling stories. It wouldn't take long for Knuckles to warm up to Amy, since she's very sweet and curious. Eventually, Amy asks if Knuckles could train her to fight like he trained Sonic, so she could help out. Sonic denies, but Knuckles agrees, saying it'd be good to have another ally. Sonic is shocked by Knuckles' willingness, and backs down, since Knuckles has the final say. Amy is ecstatic, and thanks Knuckles, and gives him her phone number, and says he can text her when he wants to start her training, and leaves, since she was there for a while. Knuckles would be confused by the gesture, since he doesn't have a phone.
With Rouge, she takes the Emerald back to Starline and Emerl, and gives it to Starline. He makes sure the Emerald is the real one and asks Rouge if Sonic suspects anything abnormal. Rouge tells Starline that the Chao ended up drawing the attention of a girl, and how that lead up to her fighting Sonic and stealing the Emerald. Starline is irritated that the Chao made a mess of things, but just says that it's no matter, and that soon enough, it wouldn't matter what Sonic thinks, and Starline's gaze towards a gateway (picture the Special Rings in Sonic Advance 2) It'd show the Chao, cowering at the scene.
Eventually, the Chao would reunite with Cream, who happily takes him back, calling him Cheese. The next time she'd see Amy, she'd show off Cheese, which would make Amy freak out, as she now knows that Chao don't have good reputations, and this one apparently tried to take Cream, according to Sonic. Amy texts Sonic about it quickly and tries to tell Cream that this isn't a good idea. Cream defends Cheese, saying she chose to follow him. She continuously says Cheese is harmless, and Sonic calls Amy. Amy picks up the phone and tells Sonic about what's happening. Sonic is surprised, but asks to be put in speaker, and to let Cream talk. Cream talks about her experience with Cheese, and how he's harmless. Sonic recalls how Cheese's attacks on him didn't hurt and were just annoying, but also insists that Cheese is allied with Rouge. Cheese shakes their head, which Cream takes as Cheese no longer having an alliance with Rouge, and relays as much. Sonic is skeptical and concerned, and consults Knuckles, who says that Chao aren't usually vicious, but having one accompanying a child could be risky at best. Knuckles tells Amy to keep an eye on the Chao, because it might simply choose to stay despite what anyone does, and if the Chao is a threat, then there'd be no moral issue of disposing it. Amy reluctantly agrees and lets Cheese stay with Cream. During the day, Cream and Cheese would play together, and Cream decided to sit down and draw with crayons. Cheese joined her and begun to draw a picture that seemed to have significance. A golden ring with wings on the side and a star in the middle, the Master Emerald, and a brown Chao. Cream seemed confused at the drawings and showed them to Amy, who knew that they had a meaning she couldn't grasp, so she asked if she could take them to Sonic and Knuckles later. Cream and Cheese agreed, and Cheese continued to draw, this time being Emerl, Rouge, and Starline. Amy didn't recognize Emerl, but assumed she knew that it was Rouge and Starline, but she was confused as to how Cheese knew Starline.
Once Amy was relieved of her babysitting duties, she asked Cheese to come with her, and Cheese obliged. They both go to Tails' house to meet Sonic and Knuckles and showed the first drawings. Sonic seemed interested, and Knuckle was shocked, immediately realizing what it was. He asked Cheese a few questions but could only get a yes or no answer. Eventually, Sonic asked who was involved, and Cheese gestured for Amy to hand over the other paper. Knuckles and Sonic recognize Emerl and Rouge, but it takes a moment for Sonic to realize Starline was the third person. Sonic was shocked, and thought about how Starline treated him differently ever since he met Rouge, and he took a moment, his allegiance sinking in. Amy and Sonic talk about Starline for a bit, as they've both had him as a teacher. Knuckles is still thinking about the significance of this, and Cheese grabs the Master Emerald, and shoves it to Sonics chest. Sonic is confused, but Cheese tries to gesture for Sonic to transform, and Sonic tries a few times, before realizing that the Emerald is fake. Knuckles asks where the real one is, and Cheese points to Rouge and Starline, before pointing to the Special Ring. Knuckles looks almost dreadful for a moment, before grabbing Sonic and saying they have to go, now, since this is now serious. Sonic tells Knuckles that they don't know where they're going, and Knuckles tells Cheese to lead the way. Sonic asks Knuckles if they could bring Tails as back up, and Knuckles agrees, then Amy asks if she could tag along. Knuckles refuses, as she's not as experienced, and he doesn't want her getting hurt. Amy's a bit angry at the idea Tails could handle himself better than she could, but appreciates the concern for her wellbeing. Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Cheese all go to the Special Rings location, with Tails being caught up on the way.
While all of this was going on, Starline was trying to figure out how to activate the Special Ring using the Master Emerald, trying several different ways, but none working, so he goes back to researching, seeing he needs someone who can wield the power of Chaos to activate it. Starline considers his opinions, and calls Rouge over to retrieve Sonic, as he can wield chaos energy. Rouge agrees, but that's when Cheese leads the group to their "base". Starline accused Cheese of betrayal, and Rouge said that this could be used to their advantage, as Sonic can now activate the Ring. Starline agrees, and powers on Emerl, who was charging. Now it's a 3 v 4, Emerl, Rouge, and Starline vs. Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Cheese. The first half of the fight was focused on Starline and Rouge trying to get Sonic to activate the Special Ring, while Emerl dealt with Knuckles and Tails. After Knuckles sees what they're doing, he tells them that no matter what they do, it won't work, they don't have everything they need. Starline asked what he'd need, and Knuckles said that he wouldn't tell him, but it's an essential piece. Starline, being a coward, independently retreated, leaving Rouge and Emerl to fight. Rouge continued on, taking on Knuckles herself, often dropping compliments and flirtatious lines, hoping he'd let his guard down, or even made any indication he liked her. To Rouge's disappointment, the most acknowledgement she got was a raised eyebrow in the midst of combat. With Sonic and Emerl, Sonic keeps Emerl busy in his super form as Tails tries to find any weak spots in Emerl's design. Sonic mentions that Emerl could be sensitive to water, recalling his retreat during their first meeting. Tails acknowledged this, and grabbed Sonic's water bottle from his bad, and found the perfect time to splash water on Emerl, causing him to short circuit long enough for Knuckles to tear himself from Rouge to smash Emerl's face in, shattering half Emerl's head. Rouge takes the opportunity to make a retreat, seeing her strongest teammate get brutalized. Sonic, Tails, and Cheese are shocked as Knuckles also be breaks Emerl's chest in a heavy strike. Knuckles stands up, saying that Emerl won't recover from that, no matter how hard anyone tries to repair him. Sonic and Tails looks nervous as they celebrate their victory, never having seen Knuckles be that violent.
After, Sonic calls Amy to update her about everything, and she's happy to know everything is alright, and that they'll be back soon. When they get back to Tails' house, Amy is waiting for them. Tails takes Knuckles to go clean off the oil he got on himself because of the attack on Emerl, while Amy and Sonic chat more in detail about what had happened. Amy asks what Sonic thinks is going to happen with Starline, and Sonic says he has no clue, as he fled rather early on. After more conversation, Amy decides to leave, and goes home. Sonic goes to check on Knuckles and Tails, and the three chat about everything, and what the future could hold.
On Monday, Sonic and Amy are informed that Starline will be taking a sudden vacation, and a substitute will be taking his place for two weeks.

Unreal Unearth postcards
track list + lyrics compiled
1. De Selby (part 1): (here)
At last,
When all of the world is asleep
You take in the blackness of air;
The likes of a darkness so deep
That God at the start couldn’t bear
2. De Selby (part 2): (here)
What you’re given
What you live in
Darling it finds a way to live in you
And your heart, love
Has such darkness
I feel it in the corners of the room
3. First Time: (here)
Remember once I told you about
How before I heard it from your mouth
My name would always hit my ears
As such an awful sound
And the soul, if that’s what you’d call it
Uneasy ally of the body
It felt nameless as a river
Undiscovered underground
4. Francesca: (here)
If I could hold you for a minute
Darling, I would do it again
I would not change it each time,
Heaven is not fit to house a love
Like you and I
5. I, Carrion (Icarian): (here)
I’ve reached a rarer height now
That I can confirm
All our weight is just a burden
Offered to us by the world
And though I burn
How could I fall?
I am lifted by every word you say to me
If anything could fall at all
It’s the world that falls away from me
6. Eat Your Young: (here)
Come and get some
Skinning the children for a war drum
Putting food on the table selling bombs and guns
It's quicker and easier to eat your young
7. Damage Gets Done: (here)
You and I had nothing to show
But the best of the world
In the palm of our hand and darling
I haven't felt it since then
I don't know how the feeling ended
But I know being reckless and young
Is not how the damage gets done
8. Who We Are: (here)
Darling, we sacrificed
We gave our time to something undefined
This phantom life sharpens like an image
But it sharpens like a knife
We’re born at night
So much of our life
Is just carving through the dark
To get so far,
And the hardest part
Is who we are
It’s who we are
9. Son of Nyx: (here)
...
...
...
10. All Things End: (here)
All things end
All that we intend is scrawled in sand
It slips right through our hands
And just knowing
That everything will end
Should not change our plans
When we begin again
11. To Someone From A Warm Climate (Uiscefhuaraithe): (here)
'Uiscefhuarithe'
The feel of coldness only water brings
There are some things that no-one
Teaches you, love
That come natural as a dream
You didn't know you were in
And darling, all my dreaming
Is only put to shame
And darling, all my dreaming
Has only been given a name
12. Butchered Tongue: (here)
So far from home
To have a stranger call you ‘darling’
And have your guarded heart
Be lifted like a child up by the hand
In some town that just means
‘Home’ to them
With no translator left to sound
A butchered tongue
Still singing here above the ground
13. Anything But: (here)
In a shot I’d swap my body for a body of water
Worry the cliffside top as a wave crashing over
I’d lower the world in a flood
Or better yet I’d cause a drought
If I was a riptide,
I wouldn’t take you out
14. Abstract (psychopomp): (here)
The poor thing in the road
Its eye still glistening
The cold wet of your nose
The Earth from a distance
See how it shines
See how it shines
15. Unknown (Nth): (here)
You know the distance never made
A difference to me
I swam a lake of fire, I’d have walked
Across the floor of any sea,
Ignored the vastness between
All that can be seen
And all that we believe
So I thought you were like an angel to me
16. First Light (here)
The sky set to burst
The gold and the rust
The colour erupts
You filling my cup
The sun coming up
Like I lived my whole life
Before the first light
