What is there to truly blame,
the victim or the loosing game?
A little lie for her to sing,
to gamble for a wedding ring.
And when the child turned up dead
the lovesick girl was never wed.
Instead, she buried deep within
to wonder if it was a sin,
or just a push that came to shove
the madness of a girl in love.

Writing advice for new writers
Some things that I wished I had been told when I started writing <3
1. Read, read, read:
Immerse yourself in the works of established authors across various genres. Reading not only exposes you to different writing styles and techniques but also helps you understand the fundamentals of storytelling. It broadens your vocabulary, sparks your imagination, and inspires your own writing.
2. Write regularly:
Make writing a habit. Set aside dedicated time each day or week to write, even if it's just for a short period. Consistency is key to improving your skills and developing your unique voice. Practice, experiment, and don't be afraid to make mistakes – it's all part of the learning process.
3. Embrace the editing process:
Writing is rewriting. Understand that your first draft is just the beginning. Editing and revising are crucial steps that transform your work into its best version. Be open to constructive feedback, whether from friends, writing groups, or professionals. Embrace the opportunity to refine your ideas, strengthen your prose, and polish your storytelling.
4. Find your writing environment:
Discover the environment in which you feel most comfortable and creative. Experiment with different settings, and create a space that inspires and motivates you to write. Surround yourself with objects, images, or music that enhance your creativity.
5. Explore different genres and styles:
Don't limit yourself to a single genre or writing style. Experiment with different forms of writing – from short stories to poetry, fiction to non-fiction. Trying new genres and styles challenges you as a writer, expands your skills. I also find this really helpful If I feel stuck in a project. Whenever I feel really stuck, I like to open a new document, or even get a pen and some paper and just write something completely different. It might just be a silly little poem, or maybe I’ll just write down what I’ve been doing that day. Just something to get out of my head, and then I can get back to my project with a clearer mind.
6. Write what you love:
Write about topics that genuinely interest and excite you. When you're passionate about your subject matter, your enthusiasm will shine through in your writing. Whether it's fantasy, romance, history, or science fiction, let your love for the topic fuel your creativity and captivate your readers.
7. Trust your voice:
Each writer has a unique voice, perspective, and story to tell. Embrace your individuality and trust your instincts. Don't compare yourself to others or try to imitate someone else's style. Your voice is what sets you apart and makes your writing authentic.
8. Enjoy the process:
Above all, enjoy the process of writing. Writing is a creative outlet, a form of self-expression, and a journey of self-discovery. Embrace the ups and downs, the challenges and triumphs, and savor the joy of bringing your ideas to life through words.
And most importantly of all: Remember, every writer starts somewhere, and like any other craft, it takes time, practice and dedication. Happy writing y’all! <3

Hello! I have a question, but it requires some background knowledge (sorry!).
So there’s a guy, and me and him have a Thing going on. I really, really like him, which is unfortunate because he’s not in a position to fully commit to a relationship with me, so we’re in this weird between space. But he writes (mostly poetry) and I write (mostly everything). I’ve shared pieces of my writing with him, and he shares piece with me, but I get the feeling that he thinks he’s a lot better than me at writing, and he wants it to stay that way. Lately he’s been asking me for feedback, but he gets really weird when I give him suggestions, or anything but praise, and then he’ll get very cold with me for a few days. I want to give him honest feed back on his writing, but I don’t want to mess things up between us.
So my question is: Do you give constructive criticism to people you love? How do you do it without hurting someone’s confidence?
If people ask me for feedback I will often ask what sort of feedback they want. Because sometimes they ask for feedback when they only want praise. (I'm not criticizing this practice. I will just be very specific when people show me things. I'm trying to find out what they want, because sometimes people just want an acknowledgment that they've written something and that you've read it, and the last thing they want is to be told what doesn't work for you or how to fix it.)

Not sure if you've answered something like this before, but how do I write "prettier" sentences? I know one thing that will help would be expanding my vocabulary, but a thesaurus only seems to get me so far. I feel like when I write, especially when I'm describing things, my sentences are so basic. Idk if this makes sense, if it doesn't I can try and find examples from other writers to help describe what I'm talking about!
How to Write "Prettier" Sentences
Pretty prose is something many writers aspire to, however, it's not as easy to achieve as looking up words in a thesaurus. It's something you have to train yourself to do through both learning and practice.
Learn By Reading/Listening
First and foremost, making sure you're reading/listening to a variety of books and stories is essential if you want to learn how to craft prettier prose. Reading and listening to stories helps train your brain to: recognize the cadence of pretty prose, understand the structuring of pretty prose, understand how to craft meaningful imagery, and fills your head with vocabulary.
Expanding Your Vocabulary
Vocabulary is also an important component of crafting pretty prose. Following web sites, pages, and apps that have a "word of the day" (like the Merriam-Webster website) is a great way to learn new words. You can also purchase a word-of-the-day desk calendar for 2024. Some writers like to flip open the thesaurus every day on a random page and read a few random words. You can also read creative articles in newspapers, magazines, websites, etc. to learn new words. You can also look up the specific vocabulary for something you're describing, like if you're describing a house, you can look up the architectural style and general architectural terms to learn how to describe specific things like the style of home, the trim, the windows, etc. Finally, in addition to the thesaurus as a source of new words, you can add other word references to your collection, such as The Describer's Dictionary, the Random House Word Menu, The Writer's Lexicon, etc.
Learning Poetic Cadence and Imagery
Listening to music/reading song lyrics, and reading/listening to poetry are great ways to teach your brain how to craft descriptive imagery. Poetry has to say a lot with few words, so it helps you understand the power of using just the right words in just the right way.
Effective Description is Important
Effective description is of course another piece of the puzzle. Not all writing is description, but a lot of pretty prose is descriptive. So, when you're describing things in your story, make sure to consider the senses--what can be seen, heard, tasted, smelled, felt/touched? You don't want to incorporate all of that into the description of one thing, obviously, but if your character is walking into a forest, considering all of those things can help you come up with a vivid, beautiful description. Sometimes, looking for photos or videos of the thing you want to describe can be helpful, too.
Practice Makes Perfect
And last but not least: practice. Once you've started to train your brain using the methods above, when you go through a draft to revise it and come to a sentence that needs sprucing up, try out different things that you've learned. Don't go overboard with the thesaurus, but perhaps your sentence describes twinkling stars... is there another word you could use instead of twinkling that's more surprising and vivid? The thesaurus suggests: glimmering, shimmering, sparkling, blinking... cross-checking each of these in the dictionary shows they're all appropriate choices for describing the twinkle of a star. You can also read the sentence out loud to listen to the cadence... are there longer or shorter (yet appropriate) words you can use instead to make the sentence more lyrical? Improving your sentences in editing helps you learn to craft pretty sentences as you're writing them the first time.
I hope that helps!

Okay, all you aspiring writers out there following my blog listen up, I’m about to lore drop something y’all may need to hear.
Now, I’m a Writer, capital letter and everything. It’s not my profession, it’s just what I am, simple as that. I’m thirty-five as I type this, and I’ve been writing for twenty-three of those years. Made the shift from someone who just does essays and stories and stuff for school to someone who Writes when I was twelve and decided, “I am going to write a Novel.”
Which I did.
Took me four years to finish, a hundred pages on Microsoft Word, single space, because that’s how long I thought it needed to be if it was going to be a novel.
And, y’all.
It’s bad.
Like, so bad.
Like, “I’m not even going to tell you what it’s about, only that it exists, this is a chapter of my life to be mentioned in passing, you will see no more, the way is shut, it was made by the dead and the dead keep it” levels of bad.
While I was doing this, I also wrote a lot of poetry. Some of that was okay. One of my ADHD powers is having a very good ear for both rhyme and rhythm, which is enough to get you labeled as the class poet in 5th  grade.
You won’t be seeing any of that either.
It’s not on par with the novel, but like... no one needs to be exposed to my teen-years poetry with the knowledge that that’s what it is.
Being a 1988 model, I didn’t discover fanfiction until about 2006. I was eighteen. The first thing I wrote was an absolute crack!fic that people enjoyed at the time, but which none of you will ever see without accessing the dark web or something similar because I’ve removed it from the legitimate internet. In fact, maybe just kind of treat anything of mine that I wrote before 2010 with extreme caution. And, even then, it’s not until 2014 that we get to my works that are still online which I look back at and go, “That? I’m still really proud of.”
It wasn’t until 2015/2016 that I started seeing myself not as someone who wanted to be a writer, but who already was one.
And it wasn’t until I was a decent start into writing my second mega!fic in 2020 that I looked down and realized that I might be writing something really special. Something that I was so proud of that I didn’t care that it was fanfiction, I was willing to talk to random people about it, because I felt so good and confident about what I was writing.
And that’s actually the point I’m trying to make. When people like me say, “Oh yeah, I’ve been writing for twenty-three years,” it’s not a statement of “Lol, I’m better than you, I’ve been at the top of my game forever, you’ll never catch up.” It’s a statement of, “Writing is a cumulative activity. If I’m good now, it’s because I’ve been doing this for a very long time, maybe longer than you’ve been alive. Look at where twenty-three years of work and practice have gotten me. And, much more importantly... think about where you are right now, and where twenty-three years of work, practice, and life experience will get you.”
Because there are a lot of young writers who I would absolutely consider my equals, don’t think I don’t see you there on AO3 and other places! And that’s what I always wonder when I think of how old you are compared to how old I am. Many of you are so much farther along the path of honing your skills than I was at your age... how much farther along will you be when you’re my age? Keep working at it and you’ll only get better, gain more polish, shine brighter. So many of you are already gems, and it’s my very dear hope that I’ll get to watch you become stars.

jj maybank x reader

a/n: one of the poems I found on pinterest creds to the original here is the link
Tumblr media
It was no secret that you and JJ were close. The two of you were the perfect pair. You were always together. What started off as a friendship quickly turned into a romantic relationship.
You and JJ practically lived together. You had a couple drawers in his room at John Bs. You were always over there spending time with JJ. You liked your little routine. You went to work at a coffee shop a couple mornings a week.
Then you went to the château to meet up with JJ. You would do everything together. You’d go on rides on his dirt bike, swimming in the marsh, going out on the boat, drinking in the hot tub, the list was endless.
This particular evening you were in the hot tub with the pogues. You were drinking and laughing and enjoying each others company. It was times like these you found yourself grateful for having such great friends.
JJ pulled you onto his lap and wrapped his arms around your waist. He rested his chin on your shoulder. He wasn’t really listening to the conversation at all. He was distracted with your body pressed against his.
“So how are things with you and Pope,” you asked Kiara who was right next to you.
“It’s good it’s just kinda weird since we’ve been friends for so long and now that we’re together it’s like how do we do this. But i like him a lot,” Kiara whispered.
“That’s good,” you responded.
“You and JJ seem as great as ever.” Kiara commented.
You nestled into JJ’s touch, “Yeah we are.”
“I’m happy for you” Kiara replied.
You talked with your friends while enjoying the warm water. When you were finished in the hot tub you went inside the château.
—————
The next morning you left the château early to go to work. JJ was bummed because he loved waking up with you. Eventually a couple hours later JJ woke up.
JJ decided to get up and get ready for the day. He was looking for a certain shirt that you happen to wear to bed and go home in. He was looking everywhere. He even looked in your drawers.
He sorted through your clothes in the drawer. He lifted up your clothes and that’s when he found a notebook. Now JJ wasn’t one to go through and look at your private things but he wondered what a notebook hidden under clothes would have in it.
JJ opened it to the first page and what he saw shocked him. It was a poem.
he is like sunshine
filling me up with joy
he is my sunshine boy
Then he flipped to the next page, another poem.
I think i found the love of my life
i think i might one day be his wife
when he kisses me I feel alive
when he holds me is when I think we thrive
He flipped the the next page after that.
blonde locks blue eyes
tan skin pink lips
he looks like a dream
Another page.
I’ve tasted your lips,
your skin
and never realized
I was deprived.
Your kiss, your touch
that awakens my soul,
making me want more.
I didn’t know
I would crave you so much.
I never realized
I was even homesick,
until
I found you.
The notebook was filled with poetry about him. He was filled with warmth. He couldn’t believe you wrote love poems about him. JJ thought that was one of the nicest and sweetest thing anybody has ever done for him.
JJ thought you were a skilled writer. Your poetry was perfect. He almost cried he was so moved by your beautiful writing. JJ made a mental note to bring this up to you when he sees you next.
——————
A few days later you were on your way to the château. You missed JJ even though it’s only been a few days. The plan was to just hang out and watch movies nothing special.
John B was in the kitchen when you walked in.
“Hey John B,” you greeted.
“Hey Y/N, JJ is in his room,” he stated.
“Thanks,” you smiled.
You made your way to JJ’s room excited to see the man of your dreams. You knocked on his door and he said to come in.
“Hi Jayj,” you exclaimed.
“Hi sweetheart,” JJ got up from his bed and gave you a hug.
You wrapped your arms around his neck and when you pulled away from the hug you gave him a kiss on the mouth.
“Mhhmmm, missed you mama,” JJ hummed after the kiss.
“I missed you too,” you replied.
“I wanted to ask you something,” JJ requested.
“Yeah sure shoot.”
“Um I found this journal, and and it’s filled with poems. I just i never knew you were a poet.” JJ explained.
“You were never supposed to see those,” your hand hit your head.
“I’m glad I did, I can’t believe you wrote those things about me.”
“Well you’re my muse my inspiration, you’re the air that I breathe,” you expressed.
“Oh my love, I love you so much. I hope you know that. I’m flattered. You should be a writer.”
“I love you too. And hey maybe I will but I’m shy and scared to put my work out there.”
“You never know.”
“You’re right who knows,” you threw your hands up.
Then you launched yourself at JJ and tackled him to the bed and pressing a kiss to his cheek.
“You make writing poetry so easy because every time I look in your eyes I see a world of possibilities.”

Hey Alka, I had a quick question for you (whenever you have the time to answer or even if you have the time), I've been taking some storyboard classes and with my illustration background, it's been hard to really find a good shorthand for characters to really get that anatomy/gesture looking right without it being too sketchy and unreadable.
How long did it take you to find your storyboard shorthand, and what exercises would you recommend to try to find it? I'm sure it just takes time and practice, I've been doing a lot more studies and gesture drawings (currently following along all the free Glenn Vilppu videos I can find on youtube) but I wanted to ask you as well because I am in love with how fluid your anatomy is, and how clear your storyboards read. And those hands my god you're a wizard!!!
Thanks a bunch, have a wonderful day!
Heya Secret, great to hear from ya! Well, what you don’t see online is how gross the rough stage of my boards can get LMFAO. Most of the boards I post are actually overly cleaned up because I'm just doing them for fun and can afford the time! I'm not really sure how long it took to develop my shorthand, I've never really enjoyed drawing detail to begin with, so when I decided to go into boarding I kinda just leaned into it!
I’ve covered a bunch of gesture drawing exercises already if you scroll through my advice tag, but ***once you have a good foundation*** here's some stuff you can try!
First you'll want to build up an arsenal of anatomy hacks you can always fallback on, particularly for complex parts of the body. The less time you spend on details, the more time you have to focus on the overall pose and storytelling. Aim to find ways to draw with as FEW lines as possible. If I had to make a list to streamline what to practice:
Head shapes - find the most efficient way to draw the front + 3/4 + side view in as few lines as possible (the challenge is still making them look structured with dimension)
Eyes - are SO important for expressions! Unless your project has characters with dot eyes, you're going to need to find a quick way to do the circle and iris in as few lines as possible. Make sure you can convey where they're looking
Hands - fists (you'll be drawing a lot of people holding poles), open palms at various angles, foreshortened fingers pointing at viewer, fingers making grabby motions----protips: 1) half the time all you need is a vague triangle/rectangle plus thumb sticking up and that's a hand 2) if the hand is relaxed, you probably don't need to draw the knuckles. Save some time!
Feet - just learn how to make sure they look like they're standing on the ground, and do some studies of what they look like when you're running. Otherwise you can usually get away with a vague shoe or boot shape (just add toe lines if they're not wearing any)
----everything else you'll practice as you go!
Jump from SUPER rough straight into clean boards to really force yourself to be economic. I've done each of these methods for work before:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Before you start boarding with a character, sketch them a few times with the intention of simplifying their design while keeping them recognizable:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You'd be surprised how little you need to recognize a character:
Tumblr media
Depending on the scene, you can adjust how much detail you want to include:
Stay loose/more generalized with action, especially for the "inbetweens" between key poses. Clean up enough to communicate movement and make the character recognizable.
If the character's small on screen in a wide shot, edit out most details and focus on the silhouette
Save the detail work for character acting, when you really want to be specific with their expressions and gestures.
But outside of all that, be bold and fearless!! Everyone has that stage where their boards look like spaghetti! Boarding is like handwriting; you could have really shitty chicken scratch, but if you're writing beautiful poetry, who cares!
god I love drawing hands you don’t even know thank you so much!! Good luck dude!! You’ve more than got this!!

Tumblr media
You’d rarely had luck receiving any sort of grace from your professors. Sure, there were a select few that only wanted to see you succeed. However, more often than not you seemed to encounter sadists who decided to take their kinks out on exhausted college students. But you were convinced that Professor Winchester wouldn’t be like that.
For starters, he’d always been challenging but never malicious. Despite the fact that you’d registered for his Norse Mythology course with the assumption that it would be easy college credits, you quickly learned that his assignments were difficult. Every week there seemed to be about a hundred pages worth of reading, frequent essays, and an emphasis on class discussion.
Tumblr media
Oh, did he love those class discussions. While most were less than enthusiastic to contribute to lengthy examinations of Eddic poetry at eight in the morning, Professor Winchester seemed to be none the wiser of this.
He was always squinting over his thin wire framed glasses, surveying the class. He’d stand at his desk, brushing his long hair behind his ear while looking over papers. When he’d listen he’d purse his lips and tilt his head, expression rife with genuine interest. In all of these moments, he was the most gorgeous. But more than that, you were fascinated with his mind.
Professor Winchester knew this material like the back of his hand; was able to pull references and quotes from various pieces of literature at the drop of a hat. He was the only professor who could ever give notes that were actually helpful on essays and he’d always been generous with handing out extra credit assignments. Which is what you aimed to obtain on this visit to his office.
You looked through the glass of his office door and saw him inside, working diligently at a dark oak wood desk. Taking a deep breath, you turned the doorknob and entered.
The hinges squeezed but Winchester seemed so fixated on whatever was before him that he only raised a finger, indicating for you to wait. So you did. Awkwardly. You rocked slightly on your heels, your stomach starting to twist in time with the movement. God, he looked like a dream lit by the stained glass banker's lamp as he graded papers.
In another world you could see him coming home from a long day, his body warm behind you as he wrapped his arms around your waist. Smelling like black coffee and pencil shavings, you'd adoringly close your eyes, taking in his scent and ask him how his day went. He'd hum in contentment when resting his chin on your head; you're his rock, his soulmate, the reason he stays sane despite dealing with probably hundreds of students and the frustrating dance of academic bureaucracy.
It's a fantasy that broke the second Winchester glanced up and said with a hint of surprise, "Miss L/N! Come in, have a seat," he nodded towards the chair on the other side of his desk.
Relieved that he can pick you out among the sea of students from his classroom, you move forward until you reach the chair. You set your bag down on the floor and settle into the worn leather of the seat as Winchester eyes you expectantly.
"What can I do for you this afternoon?"
You chew on the inside of your cheek. "Actually, I was hoping that you could help me out with something."
"Oh, what might that be?" he furrowed his brow.
"Um..." you started. "I'm sure you noticed that I didn't do too hot on the last exam."
"Ah, I did," he said simply.
"You did?"
"Yeah, I was surprised, actually." Winchester opened up one of his desk drawers and sorted through some files before pulling out a packet you recognized as the exam you'd taken the week before. "You seem so engaged in class discussion and you've been doing well on everything else. This...this felt rushed. What happened?"
The soft expression of concern on his face only increased your shame. In all honesty, you'd wasted half the exam time away staring at him. He'd worn a red sweater over a cream colored button up that day. Then he'd rolled up the sleeves before handing out the exam papers. It felt stupid to admit that you'd been distracted by his goddamn forearms.
But you had been. You couldn't resist watching him as he'd circled the room, keeping an eye out for cheating. With his arms folded behind his back, you got the best look at the back of him. His long legs clad in khaki. Strong, tanned forearms corded with prominent veins. Shoulder blades pushed back confidently as he walked. Everything about his solid stature had your mind far, far away.
You'd been good at making sure your daydreams wouldn't get the better of you. But this time, before you knew it, Winchester was glancing down at his watch and announcing that you had fifteen minutes left for exam time. You had no choice but to rush through the rest of it, writing down answers that hardly even made sense just to fill in blanks.
Now those answers laid before you, condemning you to a low D– that dragged down your entire grade.
"I honestly couldn't tell you, Professor. I thought I studied enough but I guess not."
Though you'd attempted to laugh off his concern, Winchester obviously wasn't budging. "But these are rookie mistakes. Number fifteen for example. Where do the gods live?"
"Easy. Asgard."
"Right, but here you marked down the answer for Valhalla," he slid the paper around so you could look at the question.
Sure enough, there it was, your frantic pencil marks filling in the bubble for the incorrect answer. Damn.
"And that's just on the multiple choice questions," Winchester continued, flipping through the pages. "You barely followed any of the directions for the long answer questions. Your response to the short essay portion was a paragraph too short. And it was too unfocused."
Unfocused is right, Professor Winchester.
"I hate to say it...but I was a little disappointed."
The sting of tears threatened to spill down your cheeks. So you cleared your throat and blinked them back quickly. Voice trembling, you answered quickly, "I'm sorry, Professor. I wasn't on my game and I thought I'd pay you a visit so I could plead my case. I'm willing to do any kind of extra credit assignment. I don't care how much work it is. I'll do anything to fix my grade because I really want to do well in your class and–"
Winchester raised a hand, urging you to stop. Then he spoke, "Listen, I can see how badly you want this. So I'm going to make sure you get it. Just...let me think."
With that, Winchester rose from his seat and began to gather the papers that littered the surface of his desk. He stacked them neatly before opening a different drawer and laying them inside. After he closed the drawer, he made his way around the desk. You tried not to look at him as he made his way around the room, especially not when you felt his hand brush against the back of your chair. But you couldn't not notice when he drew the shade on his door's window and closed the blinds to his window, leaving the room dim save for the yellow light of his desk lamp.
Once he'd made his round, he returned to his chair and rolled back, leaving a massive gap between himself and the edge of his desk.
Then he did something else you didn't expect.
He patted the wood and said, "Come. Sit on my desk. Let me look at you."
You almost wavered on the direction when he cleared his throat expectantly. That brought you to your feet and compelled you to settle waveringly before him.
With his lips in a tight line, Winchester studied you. He tilted his head every few seconds, letting his eye flicker from your uncertain expression to your body. You sat up a little straighter in an attempt to satisfy his observation of you.
You weren't quite sure what he was doing, but it made you nervous; made you vulnerable in a way you weren't used to.
"I may have one extra credit opportunity that I can offer. Special. Just for you."
"Yeah? What do you want me to do?"
"Well, you can start by spreading your legs."
Your eyes went wide. "Professor Winchester, you're not–"
He cut you off quickly, "First, after office hours, you may call me Sam. Second, I'm not going to touch you. I'm simply asking you to give me a– a presentation," he decided.
"What kind of presentation?" you asked.
Your feigned innocence made the man chuckle softly. "The kind of presentation I'm sure you give in your dormitory bedroom every night."
There wasn't an ounce of jesting on his face, but still you played dumb. "I have no idea what you're referring to, Sam." His name felt foreign yet familiar on your tongue. Probably because you'd whispered it many times before in the exact scenario he'd described.
"I'd hoped you'd tell me the truth about why you were so distracted during your exam. But since you haven't been forthcoming, I guess I have to spell it out for you, haven't I?"
You swallowed hard and blinked nervously.
"You thought I wouldn't notice, did you?" he chuckles again. "It's hard not to notice when one of your students, especially one so beautiful, is practically drooling all over their table."
The scraps of flattery were evidently working on you as Sam smiled when you fiddled with your fingers in your lap as your skin got all warm and tingly. So he kept going.
"Besides, you're too intelligent to do this terribly on something you should've aced. Maybe you wanted to fail it. You wanted to get my attention, didn't you?"
"Oh, no, I wasn't trying to waste your time, I was just–"
"You weren't wasting my time. Wasting your time is continuing this pointless back and forth when you could instead be proving yourself."
"Proving myself?"
"Yes. Spread those legs...and earn your grade," he ordered.
Breathing in and out slowly, you did what you were asked. The knots in your stomach told you this was wrong. But the smile of approval that slowly grew on Sam's lips said that this was exactly what you both needed.
You'd never been more embarrassed to be wearing a skirt. One the fabric pooled around your hips, it only framed the damp patch on your underwear. Perhaps part of you had wanted something like this to happen. Because your pussy was already pulsing after simply being observed behind the cotton curtain that soaked up her anticipation.
"Very good," Sam breathed out.
"What do I do now?" you asked.
"Just...play with her. Show me what you like to do to make her happy."
You nodded, then pursed your lips as you thought. If you were going to present to him...you might as well go all out. So you shifted each of your thighs around, pulling down your underwear until your bare ass was planted on the desk and the garment was caught on one of your ankles. You lifted your left and held it out gently, the panty hanging in the air a little below Sam's face.
"Take them," you said. "Visual aid."
He smirked lazily at the offering before pulling them over your shoe, being careful not to actually touch you. Sam balled them up before bringing them to his nose and slowly breathing in the scent. You could tell he enjoyed it thoroughly as he let out a deep sigh from within his chest.
"With how wet these are...it's good to know you were prepared even for a surprise presentation. I knew there was a reason you're my favorite."
His words went straight to your cunt as a few drops of slick leaked from your hole and landed on the dark wood beneath you.
"Go on," Sam urged, gaze flickering to the drops of you on his desk. "She's waiting. And so am I."
You began to treat yourself with the same level of care as you did when you were alone. One of your hands reached up your shirt and you cupped one of your tits. You kneaded the flesh for a few seconds before focusing on the nipple, pinching it until it pebbled and poked through your shirt. The action made your breathing turn ragged.
You finally let your other hand travel south, bringing warmth to the soft skin of your thighs. Wanting better access to yourself, you pulled your leg up, resting a foot on the desk itself. Then you reclined back and let your fingers roam where they wanted.
Using two fingers, you spread your outer lips, only exposing yourself to Sam’s scrutiny even further. The cool air hitting your most vulnerable part, you shivered as goosebumps erupted across your skin. You looked up at him, gauging his approval of your performance.
“You’re doing so well already, keep going,” he encouraged, hardly concealing the arousal that clung thickly to his tone.
You took the praise with pride. It emboldened you enough to slip your two fingers between your folds to gather up some of the slick. You couldn’t help but feel mortified as you involuntarily gasped when your digits brushed slightly against your clit.
Sam let a quick puff of air out his nose. “Sensitive?”
“Mhmmm,” you whined.
“Bet you can’t even touch that pretty clit directly without crying, huh?”
You nodded.
“Then be gentle. I want you to last for me.”
You took that to mean that he didn’t want you touching yourself there yet. So instead you switched to focusing on your entrance. It wasn’t often that you went straight for penetration. Rarely did it bring the kind of relief you craved.
But you had the feeling that Sam would want to see it; to see your fingers filling yourself up and stretching you out.
With your fingers practically pruning already, you pushed one in ever so slowly. It took a second to adjust to the slight pressure, but still you began to carefully pump. The slick squelch only intensified when you slipped another one in and sped up your movements.
Though the pressure increased and built up tension in your belly, you could already tell it wasn’t going to go anywhere. You bucked your hips pathetically against your own hand, trying to get deep enough to hit your g-spot. But no matter how far you tried to probe, it was useless. Your fingers simply weren’t long enough.
Your eyes went wind, catching sight of something that most likely could reach that spot inside you. While you’d been fucking yourself, your professor had undone the button and the zipper on his pants and slipped himself out. There he sat, your panties in his hand and wrapped around the thick length of his cock. The angry red tip poked up and out of the fabric with each slow thrust. And you could already tell based on how long his strokes were that you’d most likely be able to feel him poking against your belly from inside you. The idea made you moan and throw your head back.
Sam swiftly reprimanded you, “Ah, remember your eye contact. I want you to look at me.”
Shame spread over your body. What the fuck was going on? Were you really fingering yourself on his desk right next to papers that he was surely going to return to students? Was Sam really fisting his own cock with your underwear? And were you actually enjoying this?
“Sweetheart,” Sam’s self control faltered slightly with the name. But it grabbed your attention nonetheless. “I need you to look at me. Let me look into your eyes when you make yourself come on my desk, alright?”
This was about more than fixing your grade. This was about pleasing him…by pleasing yourself. And as you returned his look, you were all in.
Under his watchful, half lidded, hazel eye you allowed yourself to focus on your aching clit which laid in wait like a pearl beneath the hood of skin covering it. Carefully, you pulled that hood back before lightly spreading some of your slick with a finger. You let the skin settle back in place over the sensitive nub before going straight to work.
You began to rub slow circles on the hood and finally properly moaned. It took only a few seconds for the muscle memory of your nightly ritual to kick in as the pleasure started to mount. Finally, all of that pressure in your core had some actual weight to it; a weight that was already beginning to roll in shallow waves over your whole being.
"There you go, sweetheart. Let me hear you loud and clear. Don't wanna miss a single sound from you," Sam groaned and you caught how the grip he had on himself tightened, how his pace quickened.
While rolling your hips against your hand, you pulled up a side of your shirt, exposing even more of yourself to him. Now he could easily see one of your tits rise and fall with your staggered breaths. He could see how the ball of fat dimpled under your fingertips as you squeezed and pulled at your hardened nipple.
Both sources of simulation had you whimpering breathlessly, "Sam, I-I'm so close– Let me come, please?"
Sam glared and asked through gritted teeth, "That's not my name. What do you call me in class?"
"Professor?"
Sam nodded darkly.
You took the cue quickly and begged helplessly, "Please, professor, please let me come–" you were cut off by the sound of your pleasure starting to push you over the edge.
Sam left you teetering, staring right over the border of this boundary. That boundary being an ethical nightmare that you had no clue how you'd navigate. But you wanted to be good for him; you craved his approval.
And thankfully, Sam gave it as he groaned, "There you go, good girl. You can come, you've got permission."
With that, you arched off the desk and burst with glorious clarity. A thin stream of your arousal drooled from your entrance as you rubbed yourself through the enormous implosions and the small aftershocks that followed. Your head was heavy with the fog of pleasure and you wanted to hang it back, give it a break.
But still, you were determined to keep your eyes on him, even as you pulled your fingers away from your trembling cunt and stuck them in your mouth. Your tongue swirled around the wrinkled digits, soaking up every bit of yourself that you could.
Any sort of professionalism Sam had been trying to maintain up until that point shattered completely when he rolled his chair forwards. Closer to you now, you looked down into his soft eyes and watched how his normally objective stare went personal; emotional. He looked at you with the kind of admiration that made your heart flutter with pride.
He took his hand, placed it on your knee, and spread your legs further. His touch was so light, so soft that you could help feeling electricity dance along your spine.
"I thought you said you wouldn't touch me?" you whispered, only a hint of a smug smile tugging at your lips.
Choosing his words as carefully as ever, he explained, "That was before I decided that you needed some of my...guidance."

i was scrolling your “life is in your home too” tag, which I love btw, and saw a post about how you learned to be a good dom from experienced expert doms by reading how they dom and some of their best scenes, do you think you could point me in the direction of some resources for me to study that too? thanks in advance, if not, thanks anyway!
(post referenced is here - link 1)
first of all tysm for this ask (+ your incredibly kind follow-up), it was a delight to receive + i’ve been wanting an excuse to talk about a lot of this for a while so i very much appreciate the interest!
as always please keep in mind that i am Just Some Fem, nothing is universal including when it comes to D/s & i can only speak to what works for me. i try to focus on starting points rather than specifics but ultimately my advice will always be limited by what i needed to hear & wasn’t told, which may not be what’s helpful for a different person. with that being said, here’s some suggestions!
i’ve posted a previous reading list (link 2) with relevant recs; particularly the practicality + sex writing sections have the kind of thing you’re looking for. specifically, The New Topping Book (2003) is a solid starting point; i definitely have my issues with it (haven’t read it recently enough to recall many specifics but i have the sense of general pervasive racism & ableism) but it did a good job at making me think & i appreciate the supportive tone they were going for
another book added to my tbr since then is Coming to Power (link 3), released by SAMOIS in 1983
other authors whose sex writing has been influential in my life: Sandra Cisneros, Natalie Diaz, Joan Nestle, Judy Grahn
the fic At The End of His Rope by Letterblade (link 4) is genuinely some of my favorite sex writing of all time & accomplishes the incredibly impressive feat of representing a broad array of dom styles & changes over time in the same piece
my “impurity culture” tag (link 5) houses the building blocks of my sexual ethic
i’ve found many of those foundations by poking around the incredible bodies of work original & archived @newsmutproject @woman-loving @gatheringbones
for me, studying sex is the same as studying poetry – reading for craft is a different process than for pleasure (not that there isn’t a great deal of pleasure to be found in such practice, especially for sadists – perhaps that’s why as a child i never resonated with Billy Collins’ “Introduction to Poetry,” like i love tying poems to chairs & beating them idk what to tell you). so, keeping in mind that these are suggestions not requirements, here’s how i read for + work on craft:
there is no such thing as too much journaling. this can take whatever form you prefer – voice memo, discord message to yourself, the noble notes app, your own personal sexy red string corkboard, a vast & stunning array of other approaches i can’t even begin to imagine. i personally have an elaborate web of spreadsheets & google docs lmao. what matters is developing a collection of ideas you want to play with + a practice of continually reflecting on past experiences.
pay attention to structure, not just content. find a scene you think is disjointed and pick at the seams, brainstorm better transitions. then find a scene that flows so smoothly it carries you with it and figure out what makes it work.
rewrite a scene you’re drawn to or affected by to suit your own preferences. i first did this when i couldn’t shake “Interlude 3” (link 6) from my head after reading The New Topping Book; you can read my variation on the theme here (link 7) if you’re interested.
write or think through a scene fantasy you have from negotiation to aftercare. obviously it’s very difficult if not impossible to fully script a scene in advance; the purpose isn’t planning something you’ll later do but rather getting used to coming up with ideas to get from one disparate moment / act to the next.
revisit a scene you’ve read, written, thought about, etc and list the physical & mental acts that are required / expected of the sub (eg, kneeling for 10 minutes; making eye contact; counting to 30, etc). then rework the scene for a sub who has the same interests & goals who cannot do 20% (or 50%, or any) of these acts.
revisit a previous scene and list the places where you think a sub might safeword & why. then rework it with the sub safewording somewhere that isn’t any of these places.
i also recommend keeping in mind that like… for me, reading about ethical sex can often be a very distressing process for the same reason that it’s liberating: because it proves that things i’ve experienced are not the way sex has to be. i’ll tell this story in its fullness one day but the first time i read S/HE by Minnie Bruce Pratt i literally had a flashback to events i’d repressed for years, it was devastating, i’m so grateful for it. hell, in the process of compiling resources for this post i cried twice editing this quote (link 8) because between reading that book the first time & now someone did “respond with scorn or ridicule” when i safeworded. so i would really encourage folks to approach this kind of work with as much grace & comfort for yourself as you can muster or borrow – if it’s really fucking hard, you’re not alone in that, & it’s okay to take your time + pace yourself + seek support.
your + others’ interest is definitely motivating me to actually write posts i’ve been tossing around for months so thank you again & feel free to keep an eye out for more shut-in sex tips in my new “tomorrow sexting will be good again” tag. would love to hear your thoughts on any of this post / these or other books / whatever really lol. wishing you all the best & i hope today is kind to you! 💓

Tumblr media Tumblr media
(From research but also from my own workings with him. This isn’t meant to be strictly historical this is more for pagans wanting to work with him. There will be a lot of UPG or SPG)
Tumblr media
A small summary of Freyr…or, Frey, Yngvi-Freyr and many other names.
He is a Norse god who was heavily worshipped as a fertility god, as well as a god of good weather good harvest and kingship.
Freyr and his twin sister Freya along with their Father Njörðr were originally from the group of gods that rivaled the Æsir called the Vanir.
Not much is told about their time with the Vanir though, their story mainly starts with them moving to Asgard as a deal made between the two rivaling groups of gods.
Freyr has a wife, a giantess named Gerd who he cares for deeply.
He is a fierce protector of women and it is even said that when he is around weapons literally won’t work on women. Swords would break against their skin.
He is also the ruler of Alfheim land of the elves.
Freyr is mentioned in the Prose Edda and Poetic Edda multiple times.
Tumblr media
My personal experience with him:
I was searching for a deity to reach out to after Skadi left and she’d given me a message to work with a deity who had a warmer energy. I think she already had Freyr in mind.
He really has been a warm energy. He feels like laying down in tall grass and making flower crowns with friends while you braid each others hair. He also feels like the hot sweat of a hard day of work, and feeling happy after you’ve done something you’re proud of.
He’s helped me with a lot of my struggles as a transgender man. I worry often about the features of me that are still “too feminine” and he has been there for me and helped teach me the ways to embrace the feminine sides of me. He’s such a positive influence and he shows up some of the most often in my meditations.
Tumblr media
Offerings for Freyr
Wildflowers/local flowers
Flower crowns
Bread
Alcohol (mead, beer)
Images of boar (he has a golden boar Gullinbursti)
Ship in a bottle/ship imagery (he has a ship Skíðblaðnir that can shrink and fit in his pocket)
Crystals that represent fertility
Citrine
Phallic imagery has also always been a very popular offering/way of worshipping him
Candle colors: white, gold, yellow, green, red
Non physical offerings:
Go on a nature walk/(disability friendly version watch a YouTube video of a nature walk or a virtual tour of a national park)
Make flower crowns
Make a filling meal with lots of fruit and veggies and grains
Write him poetry
Meditate together
Protect and stand up for women
Gardening/learning about plants
Working out (I don’t personally do this for him since I have 3 other deities I already dedicate workouts to but he is good for this as well!)
Tumblr media
All in all I think Freyr is a fantastic deity to have around. His energy is warm and so is he. I’m sure he can be very serious at times as well when he needs to be. But in my experience I’ve just felt only comfort when I go to him. Him and Thor are like the sunshine boys of my personal pantheon.
If you feel like he’s reaching out to you it could come just from having an interest in him that you can’t shake, or seeing things associated to him often. If you feel like he’s for you, reach out to him through your preferred divination method or clairsense to confirm and see if he truly is wanting to work together. Or just set up a little altar for him and have a place in your practice for worshiping him if that feels more correct for you 💛

Any headcanons for Embalmer and Andrew? 🥸
Oh yes! I am systematically working my way through most of the characters ehehe. I actually think I need to do some situational writing for Aesop as practice, he was a little harder for me to pin down than the other characters I've done so far.
As always, feel free to send me requests if you like my stuff <3 these are fun to do before work ;;
Identity(V) Headcanons: Aesop Carl
Tumblr media
-With my current knowledge of the characters, I think Aesop is one of the more dangerous people in the actual horror-story telling behind IDV…. But I’ve been filling these under the game/stageplay setup where the manor is an unescapable, endless game and no one actually dies for realsies…so we’ll ignore his murderous training and tendencies for now.
-That said, he’s still going to be a very difficult guy to get along with. Aesop is confirmed as autistic, and most of his related struggles fall into social categories. He does not typically enjoy casual touch or conversations about anything other than his work. In fact, the longer the conversation is, the worse time he’s having. If there’s a lot of people around too?? He’s McStruggling.
-It takes him a very long time to become genuinely comfortable and friendly with someone, and only then does he start to explore them beyond his comfort zone. Luckily, since everyone is stuck in this would-be purgatory, you’ve got nothing but time!
-One-on-one time is best for Aesop, and while you’re first getting to know him it’s recommended you do not initiate this unless he’s in a public space. He’s mentally prepared to be approached at those times. If you try to barge in on his quiet time or safe spaces before he clears you to do so, it’s only going to hurt his opinion of you.
-He most definitely has long-stints of going nonverbal. At times, the amount of conversation expected of him is too much and he just shuts down completely. If he’s pressed too much during these times he may fall to tears or lashing out. He may, however, be willing to write out any answers that are very important or time-sensitive.
-The trustworthiness of the living and the dead are flip-flopped in Aesop’s mind. When someone is dead, they are a resting summation of all their deeds in life. He learns about who people were through the clues they leave behind: their health, their scars, their effects, the company they receive at their funerals. He considers these things to be more truthful than whatever the deceased would tell or show him about themselves. The living, meanwhile, are all actors, just proxies for what they want to be rather than what they actually are. This is a large reason why he feels closer to the dead than the living.
-Aesop’s favorite love languages are a little difficult to pin down, but I’m going to say Quality Time is his number one—especially when you’re good with parallel play and keep things quiet. This will foster feelings of safety and comfort in relation to your presence! He also likes Words of Affirmation, but mostly in the form of letters, as he’s a little biased for them from all the times he’s nosed through a patient’s effects. Even when he’s head-over-heels (or as close as he can be, since I honestly get AceAro vibes from him) he leans towards written communication but could learn to trust verbal praise in smaller doses.
-When he’s very close with someone, he can learn to enjoy a good hug now and then, or lend them his shoulder to lean on, but he always prefers to keep his arms uncaged so it’s easier to pull away. Unwelcome physical contact feels like bugs crawling under his skin. It’s obvious when he’s had far too much of it because that sensation leads to twitching and spasming, like he’s trying to shake it out.
-He likes to read! His favorites are mostly nonfiction. Biographies (not autobiographies) and other works of an educational nature are preferred, but he has been known to pick up some poetry every now and again. This is due in part to not having finished school and thirsting for all the knowledge he wasn’t allowed.
-He treats learning about his loved ones like reading these books; they are a list of facts and stories to be memorized. Small exceptions to any major preferences can be confusing for Aesop to keep track of, but in general he is very good at committing people’s likes, dislikes, and histories to memory.
-He doesn’t really care to celebrate his own birthday, but likes to help others celebrate theirs. The kitchen is far from his preferred workspace, but he’s actually a decent baker when the situation calls for it. The cake decoration….well, he’ll leave that to someone else. But the cake itself will taste good!

“Dude, I said no,” Jon said rejecting Sam’s offer yet again.
Sam and Gilly sat across from the stubborn Snow as they ate lunch and Sam questioned why he even tried. “Why not though?” Sam asked.
“Because I don’t need you to set me up with someone. I can find my own dates,”
“Really?” Sam said staring at Jon in disbelief. Gilly let out a giggle as her boyfriend began to berate the boy, “Last week all you did was write poetry about how alone and sad and moody you were. You’ve went full emo,”
“First of all, that was for class,” Jon glared at Sam only receiving a smirk in return, “Secondly I thought that was private,”
“And if you had a girlfriend then you would know-nothings private,”
“He’s right you know,” Gilly pipped up. Jon liked Gilly. He liked Sam. He liked them together. But right now, he wanted to slap the pair's heads together and storm off. But Jon chose to rise above and be mature.
“Yeah, well fuck you both,” he grumbled as he began to almost stab the food on his tray with his fork. “I’m happy being single,”
“Since when were you happy?” Cregan asked as he sat to join them for lunch.
“Im trying to set Jon up with my mate but he’s being stubborn. As always,”
“Ooo which girl?” Cregan asked before quickly adding “Or guy or whatever it is you’re into. You are into people, aren’t you?”
The three laughed as Jon’s attack on his food increased, “People that aren’t assholes yeah. I don’t get why you’re so insistent on this,”
“Because one day Jon,” Sam folded his arms, leaning on the table, and began his tale, “I’m going to realise I haven’t heard from you in a while and decide hey I should check on him. So, me and Gilly are gonna come over to your sad little apartment and break in. And what will I find? You dead on the couch and Ghost circling your body like a vulture. And I don’t wanna Gilly to see that,”
“Ghost isn’t gonna fucking eat me when I die,” Jon snapped, “Do you really think im gonna die alone? Do you think I can’t get a date that badly?” Gilly, Sam, and Cregan all shared a look “Okay fuck all of you,”
“I just think it’d be good for you to get out the house,” Gilly pipped up and the other two nodded in agreement before she added, “Besides you’ll be less tense if you get laid,” making everyone’s jaws drop, “Im serious. I used to be even more stressed than you Jon and then I met Sam and ever since I’ve just been- “
“I don’t think we need to talk about that darling,” Sam cut her off.
“Seconded,” Cregan said, “but she’s right. You need to get laid,”
Jon sighed and Sam looked between his friends and questioned his life decisions, “While I’d prefer you didn’t just ‘use’ them for sex, I genuinely think you would like them,”
“We didn’t say to use them for sex,” Gilly said but Jon ignored her.
Jon sighed and pushed his tray away since his food was now closer to mush than anything else from his stabbings, “Fine. One date,” Jon said, and the group let out a cheer, “but I swear to god Sam they better not be crazy or something,”
“By something he means ugly,” Cregan said, and Jon slapped the back of his head. “Ow dude wtf?”
Sam grinned, “Don’t worry. I know your type. You’ll like them,”
Jon Snow’s mystery date was all the talk of their friend group. Robb had found out, Tormund found out, and Theon had found out. He even got a text from Sansa about it. all of them bombarded him with tips and tricks and lines to use. Sansa demanded he Facetime her to pick his outfit out.
As Jon was getting ready to leave his room was filled with all said annoying friends bar Sansa but she was texting him so much it felt like she was practically there. “And when you get to the restaurant- “Cregan started, and Jon let out an agonising groan.
“Shut up,” he whined, “I know what to do on a date,”
“We know mate but,” Tormund began, “you haven’t been the same since Ygritte. We just don’t want you giving up if it doesn’t go to plan,”
“I’m not gonna give up,” Jon said as he looked at himself in the mirror. The outfit Sansa bullied him into was a white button-up and weird checked trousers that were ‘trendy’ right now. Jon sighed as he began to unbutton it, “Besides Ygritte was a long time ago,”
She had been his first-ever girlfriend he got the week of university. It was good at first, but they were always fighting and bickering. They were constantly breaking up and getting back together. The whole ordeal lasted a year and messed Jon up. Especially since he didn’t realise, they weren’t getting back together until he found out she was seeing Orell.
“You’re not cancelling,” Sam warned Jon who in return through his shirt at him.
“Im just changing shirts calm down,” he said as he pulled out a black shirt and black jeans. “Do I at least get to know anything about this person before im trapped at a table for an hour with them?”
“They’re in my history of medicine and herbology class, from Kingslanding, same age as us, funny, and extremely sarcastic,” Sam listed.
“Is that it?”
“You’ll have to find the rest out yourself,”
“Do I at least get a name?” Jon asked as he began to tie his doc boot laces.
“(Y/N),”
“Oh, I like them!” Robb pipped up, “Yeah, they tutored me in Dornish lit last year. Only reason I didn’t flunk out,”
“Oh, yay maybe I can study tonight,” Jon deadpanned before turning to look in the mirror, “How do I look?”
“Perfect,” Sam said.
“Very emo,” Cregan chimed in with a smirk causing Jon to roll his eyes.
“Hot bro,” Theon blew Jon a kiss and received a slap on the head from Cregan. “Can’t a bro appreciate another hot bro?”
Theon was ignored and Robb spoke up, “Sansa’s gonna kill you but you look good dude. Don’t worry. It’s just a date,”
“Im not worried,” Jon lied as he continued to try straightening out his already straight shirt.
Robb grabbed Jon's leather jacket and helped him shrug it on, “Of course not,” he said as he held Jon's shoulders, “You’ve got this,”
Jon was standing outside the restaurant with his gaggle of hens following him, “You’re not coming on this date with me you know?”
Sam rolled his eyes, “I was just gonna point them out then we were gonna head to the The Wall bar encase you need us,”
“I won’t need you,” Jon said causing Sam and Robb to share a look “Shut up,” Jon grumbled as he looked into the restaurant, “So who is it?”
Sam pointed them out and the nerves instantly flooded Jon's system. They had got there early and were already sitting down looking absolutely gorgeous. They weren’t even trying. They were just sitting there playing with a fork and staring out a window and yet Jon was already feeling his mouth go dry, “Dude they’re well out of my league,”
“I said the same thing about Gilly and look at us now. Now go get em tiger,”
“I hate you,” Jon said before walking up to the restaurant door, “Here I go,” Jon took a deep breath and forced himself into the building, throwing a quick glance back to where Robb and Sam were giving him a thumbs up like some kind of child.
“Table for one?” The hostess asked.
Jon cleared his throat, not even sure what name the reservation was under, “I’m meeting someone here. For a date,” he began to stutter and cursed himself mentally, “I think they’re- “
“Jon?” she asked, and he nodded as a blush began to flush his cheeks, “They were sat a few minutes ago. Come with me,” she said and led Jon to his table who was desperately trying to walk normally and not fall into a deep hole and die. “Your dates here,” the hostess grinned as Jon sat down across from his mystery date who even the hostess knew before him. “Here are your menus. Have fun you two,” she said before leaving.
“Hi- “
“I’m- “
“Sorry you go- “
“You go first- “
The pair let out an awkward laugh before she quickly jumped in, “Hey,” she said with a smile stuck to her lips that were perfect just like her smile.
Jon found his face flushing yet again, “Hey. A friend of yours im guessing?” he asked nodding to the hostess who kept glancing at them.
“Yeah,” she laughed despite him not making a joke, “That’s Baela. Sorry if she keeps spying on us. She traded a shift just to watch me crash and burn,” Jon laughed and smiled as a blush filled her face instead of his for once, “Not that I think im gonna crash and burn im sorry let me start again. I’m (Y/N),” she said as she stuck her hand out to shake his and Jon saw her cringe at her own actions.
But he just grinned and shook her hand in return, “I’m Jon,” she took her hand back and his hand had never felt colder.
“Sorry about the handshake,”
“No, it’s good. Handshakes are good,” Jon reassured her, glad that it was not only him sweating buckets over this date. “I’ve never had a date shake my hand before,”
“I’ve never had a blind date before,”
“Me neither. Sam practically bullied me into this. He wouldn’t even tell me your name,”
“Me too,” she grinned. “Well, he let me know your name, but he forbade me to look up your social media,”
“You wouldn’t find much im afraid,”
“Not an Instagram guy?” she asked, and Jon shook his head, “Hmm I suppose I can forgive you,”
“Oh, so kind of you,” Jon said, and she laughed, “I guess we should probably look at the menu. That waiter looks like he’s ready to pounce,”
(Y/N) smiled, opening her menu, but it dropped once she looked up to the waiter, “Oh fuck,”
“What?” Jon asked, dropping his menu and looking to see what she had been staring at. It had been their waiter who had skulked off as soon as she had looked up. “Do you know him?”
“I’m sure it’ll be fine,” she said as she tried to shake it off, but Jon kept looking at her causing her to sigh, “That’s my ex. Baela swore he was off tonight or I would’ve said somewhere else,”
“Is it okay? Do we need to leave?” Jon asked, fully ready to walk half the earth for this girl he had only had half a conversation with.
She sighed and took a second to think “Nah it’ll be fine. Yeah, no it’ll be fine. He broke up with me anyway plus it was like a year ago so like yeah, its fine. Plus, they do a really good cheesecake I wanna get for dessert so its fine,” Jon couldn’t help but find her rambling adorable, but his silence caused her to look at him, “As long as you’re okay with it?”
“As long as the cheesecake as is good as you say,” he joked.
She laughed and picked up her menu, “Oh I promise its more than just good,”
After the pair had looked at the menu their chat was interrupted “(Y/N),” their waiter greeted not even glancing at Jon.
“Ramsay,” she said giving a tight-lipped smile, “How are you?”
“I'm fine. What can I get yous?” he asked and Jon's face contorted at how he didn’t even pretend to be courteous. (Y/N) also appeared shocked as she began to stutter her order and he wrote it down. “What about you?” he asked not even looking at Jon. Jon was so baffled that he didn’t even respond causing Ramsey to ask again “Well?”
“I’ll have the gourmet burger and a coke,”
“You’ll have the Pepsi,” Ramsey said as he turned and walked away from the table.
Jon and (Y/N) looked at each other with a look of half horror half confusion, “Was he always such an asshole?”
“I mean yeah but I assumed he’d at least pretend at work. Im so sorry,”
“Don’t apologise for him,” Jon assured her “Why did you even date him?”
She laughed but her face was anything but happy, “Can we save toxic ex stories for date two?”
“I understand. I mean like. I get it,” Jon said, and relief flooded her face, “We’ve all got some shitty stories I guess?”
“Yeah, but let’s focus on the good ones for now. Baela will kill me if I scare you off before dessert,”
“Good thing I don’t scare easily,”
From there the conversation flowed so easily that even Ramsey's bluntness couldn’t ruin the night. They had so much in common and Sam was right. She was funny and kept up with his quick tongue.
“You’re an idiot if your serious think Aegon the conquering was- “
“Dessert?” Ramsey interrupted their debate as he began to take their plates away.
The pair shared a look before (Y/N) spoke up, “Could we get the cheesecake and- “but she was cut off by his scoff, “What?”
“Do you really need the cheesecake?”
Jon felt a hot rage go up his spine as he glared daggers into Ramsey. (Y/N) went instantly red and was stumbling to even get a word out so Jon spoke up. “Give us one of each dessert,”
“You want four desserts?” Ramsey finally actually looked at Jon whose gaze could cut metal right now.
“Yup. Problem?”
“Whatevs. Coming right up,” Ramsey said as he sauntered off to the kitchen.
“Don’t listen to a word that guy says. He’s an asshole. I don’t understand why you ever dated him. And you said the dessert was good so we’re trying each one no arguments,”
(Y/N) smiled and Jon almost forgot the anger at the sight of it, “He was nice once. I think. Im honestly not so sure now,” she laughed but her voice was fragile.
Jon grabbed her hand without even thinking, “You deserve someone way better than him. You’re so,” Jon shook his head trying to think of the right word, “I don’t think I’ve ever met someone so perfect,”
“You barely even know me,”
Jon sighed as he debated if he should go against everything his friends had told him and lay himself out on the table, “I had my own Ramsey. And well, there’s a lot to that story but long story short she just. She was just not good for me. Now I don’t even know why we ever dated but she messed with my head, and I haven’t gone on a date since until now. And I can honestly say I’ve had more fun tonight than I did in the whole year I knew her,”
He expected her to run, to excuse herself to the bathroom and climb out a window, but she squeezed his hand instead, “I get that. I really do. I was thinking the same thing about Ramsey this whole time. How could I date someone as pig headed as him- “she said causing Jon to chuckle, “when I could’ve been with someone like you,”
“Maybe blind dates aren’t so bad after all,” Jon said, and she smiled. They stayed looking into each other’s eyes till Ramsey ruined it yet again by ungraciously dumping four plates and 2 spoons on the table.
They didn’t let it ruin the mood and spent another hour sitting and chatting as Jon experienced the best cheesecake of his life. They must’ve been too happy for Ramsey's liking who decided to dump the bill on their table without even asking but made sure to add, “Remember it's rude not to leave a tip,”
“Its official. I have better taste than you,” Jon joked as he pulled out his wallet.
“Hey, I need to stalk this Ygritte girl before you get to judge,”
“Fine fine,” Jon said as he began to take cash out, “It was 38.50 but I only have $20s and I don’t wanna leave him $1.50,”
“Here I have change,” (Y/N) said as she pulled out $18.50 in cash, “You can pay me back by getting me a drink at The Wall on our next date,”
“Oh, can I? your so kind,” Jon said though internally he was bouncing off the walls at the idea of another date with this perfect specimen.
“I know,” she said as she scrunched her nose up and Jon thought he may die from her cuteness, “Do you have a pen though? I wanna leave him a ‘tip’,”
Jon passed her a pen and tried to watch what she was writing but she hid it and closed the bill holder with a grin, “We should go. Now,”
The pair rushed to the host stand for (Y/N) to say a quick goodbye to Baela. As she was telling Baela she’d text her they heard a “Hey!” from across the restaurant and the pair turned to see Ramsey pushing through tables to get to them.
“Go, go, go,” (Y/N) laughed as she grabbed Jon's arm and hauled him out of the restaurant, and ran across the road, narrowly dodging a car.
Ramsey flipped them off, unable to leave the restaurant but as soon as he walked back in the pair broke out into a laughing fit, “What did you write?”
(Y/N) laughed harder, “I told him how to find the clit,” she said, and Jon laughed even harder.
“Oh, my gods I love that,” He was almost crying at this point, “This is the best thing Sam has ever forced me to do,”
“Im glad,” she laughed as she looked up at Jon, “It’s getting late. My roommate said if I didn’t get back by 11, she was calling the cops,”
“Well, I don’t need to get arrested again,”
“Again?” she asked, and Jon laughed, “Am I dating a gang leader or something?”
“I’ll tell you as I walk you to your dorm?” Jon offered.
(Y/N) grinned and nodded as the pair began to walk back to campus, “At least you’re a gentleman gang man,”
Jon was disappointed as they reached the door to her dorm knowing he would have to wait to see her again, “So if you don’t do insta do you at least have a phone number?” (Y/N) asked as she leaned back against her front door.
“Gimme your phone I’ll put it in,” he said, and she complied.
“This better not be a fake number Jon Snow,” she teased as he handed the cell back to her.
Despite his anxiety at the beginning Jon felt his confidence grow with every joke and come back. He didn’t even think as he stepped closer, leaving only an inch between them, “Don’t worry its very real. I promise,”
“Good,” she grinned as she brought her hands to rest on his shoulders, “I had fun tonight,”
“Me too,” Jon said as he leaned in closer, placing his hand on her waist. “I really wanna kiss you right now,” he confessed as his lips ghosted hers.
She leaned in ever so slightly so that her lips brushed against his as she said, “Then do it,”
His lips fell onto hers and her arms pulled him in closer, so they were pressed against each other as their lips moulded together perfectly. Jon wanted it to last forever but as he grazed his teeth against her bottom lip she pulled back slightly, “If we don’t stop, I won’t be going into my room alone,”
“You’re lucky im a gentleman,” Jon said as he forced himself to pull back, letting her turn to unlock her door, “Another time?”
“I’m free tomorrow?” she offered.
Jon laughed but nodded, “Tomorrows great. Text me,”
“As soon as im through this door.” She said, “Goodnight Jon,”
“Goodnight,” he said as he stepped away and let her return to her dorm.
Jon was barely out the dorm's front door when he checked to see if she had indeed texted him. She had. A text from an unknown number saying, ‘Guess who?’. Jon laughed to himself as he texts her back before looking at the bombardment of texts his friends had sent him. But they could wait. He wasn’t gonna let Sam find out he was right ruining his night. Turns out blind dates aren’t always a bad idea.

the other day
(i almost called it yesterday)
i wrote a poem after class
called it a warm-up
called it cards
i did everything my professor said i shouldn’t
took advice from my writing professor
who said
“here are a list of writing rules
go break every single one of them”
i’ll take this one slower
because my theatre class got out early
and i got to eat this time
the soda fountain was busted
the cherry coke wasn’t that
we read of those who wrote
with inspiration of art
i’ll never write like
the way orphan made me feel
i hear i song
and i cry
and i steal half their lines
want me to do it again?
i’ll list what i’m listening to
“take it from me
i’m not looking for anybody
i’m sick of car rides
you lied while we lay back to side”
my friend (?????)
[for our audio listeners
if you’re ever out there
there’s a series of question marks
because i don’t know
what i want her to be]
said goodbye to me as she left
and i couldn’t catch her
i had to fix my desk
i sat with a pretty girl today
she reminds me of my old friend
the one i’ve written about before
the one i’ve compared myself to with a dying moth
i wish she’d look at me like she did
she smiled at the end
before fumbling her papers
and i almost relapsed on the spot
i saw a pretty girl in my building
she lives a floor above me
i think about how my elevator sometimes
doesn’t say what floor it was going to
and i always have to double check
i wonder what system it uses
or if it just didn’t want to say it
if it skipped a line on accident
if it just had too much going on at once
i don’t think i can call this a poem
what if i call myself a moth again?
i use dogs too often
my hair looked decent when
i left the bathroom this morning
i saw my reflection when the poem wouldn’t load
and i think i almost lost three years of progress
that girl was from here
in this city i’m familiar yet foreign to
i reread my own poem
and i’ve suddenly never used a metaphor in my life
i talked about rocks
and i wrote about moths
i’ll only be a hit online
- by online i mean i’ll get clicks
from my one online friend -
my roommate always keeps the door open
the same friend from before had her room rekeyed
i don’t know how to make this a poem
my professor would never take this
i keep getting snapchat notifications
of my old teammates from home
celebrating each other’s birthdays
i almost don’t even go home for mine
so should i use a simile?
should i add a metaphor?
i can’t say i agree with holly in that song right now
i can’t drive
but they’ve lied while we laid together
and they’re still going on about getting high
let’s see
what can i say here?
i feel like a fish in a fishbowl
- there’s my vehicle -
i can see everything i want
but i can’t get to any of it
- there’s my tenor -
my writing class made me feel
like i at least have a chance
so far poetry
has made me feel like i’ve been fooling myself
i can’t call this poetry
i can’t say i’m good at all
which isn’t the problem
it’s that i don’t feel like i can be
i’m laying in bed
the brain killer
and now i don’t want to go to geology
which isn’t for another hour
i’ll call this a warm-up
like i do
being the fraud artist i am
saying every piece i don’t like
was a practice sketch
so i don’t have to claim it
hey if i add a period here
can i call this all enjambment?
ah shit nevermind
there it goes
i’ll end it on this
anyway.
— warm-up: tenor

I'm so scared I lost my touch when it comes to writing. My work schedule got busier, so I went months without writing anything at all. Now I'm trying to get back into it, but I can't seem to find a rhythm like I used to. I'm so upset because writing is my only hobby and if I lose it...I don't know what the point of anything is.
Out of Practice with Writing/Feeling "Lost Touch"
Here's a little secret about writing: the writing experience and skill you have never goes away, even if you haven't written in DECADES. It isn't like a container of water that evaporates when it's not being refilled so that one day it's gone. Your skill might get a little stale when you're out of practice, but you never lose your ability to do it.
So, why does it feel like our writing gets worse the longer we go without using it?
Here's another little secret about writing: every minute you spend on this planet makes you a better writer. Even when you're not actively writing, you are constantly absorbing the stories of the world around you. Your brain's ability to tell better stories keeps growing even if you're not practicing your writing skills, so that when you finally get back to writing again, you can tell what you're trying to write isn't as good as you want it to be... and that can feel like your writing skills have atrophied or vanished even when that's not the case.
Getting Back Into a Writing Routine - Right now, it might help to focus on getting back into a writing routine rather than worrying about what you're writing. In other words, put more focus on showing up when you have available time than on what exactly you're writing. Things like journaling about your day/a unique experience, writing book/movie/game reviews, flash fiction writing prompts, short poetry, fan-fiction drabbles, free writing, and writing exercises are great "low impact" things you can work on when you "show up" for your writing time. Have a look at my brand new post Slowly Easing Back Into Writing (With a Busy Schedule) as it has a bunch of other ideas and links that may be helpful! i hope that helps!

Hi! I just saw your post of the Hazbin hotel mashup! Can I have mine? I have to say I’ve been binge reading all of your works, they are really good!
My name is Melody
Pronouns: I don’t mind pronouns, any is fine but most people use she/they for me
Personality: I would say I’m shy and quite at first but when you get to know me I become very loud, energetic. Practically become the sunshine character + golden retriever in books, my friends tell me anyways. Which I see it. I also become really sassy overtime but in a kind way? I don’t know how to describe it, I become sassy to the person when I know them really well. I’m also very sarcastic as well
style: My style changes a lot to be honest, haven’t quite figured it out. But I would say my style is mix of romantic, dark and light academic and cottagecore
love language: physical touch is up there but when I know that the person close to me that doesn’t like physical touch (example: my friends), I show them my love for them by gift giving but hand made
hobbies: drawing, painting, poetry, reading, pottery, archery, writing
Interests: heavy on fantasy (Merlin BBC, Doctor Who, The hobbit, Lord of the rings), anything mythical, Greek mythology, true crime, history
appearance: I have a medium length butterfly cut, black hair but red is in there as well. You can see the red only when the sun hits my hair. I’m 5’3, dark brown eyes and Carmel skin
Dislike(s): rude people, people who does not have any manners, bitter food, really spicy food I only can take mild spice 🥲
Like(s): books, animals all kind, nature, sweets (I’m a sweet tooth person), all kinds of music it all depends on my mood, stuff animals, flowers, all kinds of potatoes (hash browns, chips etc)
Hopefully that’s enough information, sorry if it’s a lot! Take care of yourself and have a lovely day/afternoon/night :]
AAAA i love hearing people binge read my stuff and enjoy it, so tysm!!💕💕 i didn’t get what gender you preferred so i hope what i picked is okay but here is my pick for you…
Husker !!
Tumblr media
First then I thought of when you said you have ‘sunshine + golden retriever’ energy was AAA HUSK ‘grumpy + sunshine’ duo and I just about screamed because I fucking live for that shit LMAO
When Husk first met you, he instantly likes you, you were quiet and chill which was a contrast to pretty much everyone at the hotel
But then you guys got closer and started dating BOOM it was like a smack in the face!! Within the blink of an eye, you were this energetic and talkative person! Husk didn’t mind by any means, he was just shocked
Husk doesn’t mind physical touch in small segments, but the fact that you think he is worthy of a gift? He doesn’t understand, but he accepts the gift, even if it’s something stupid
Also your hair matches his color scheme, so I thought that was cute :3
Ya know how Husk takes Angel and dances with him in that one part in ‘Loser, Baby’ in E4, yeah, you too do that shit all the time

Crown Development in CH10
Heya, this is a sort of informal progress update with some fun stuff I’m cooking up for CH10! It’s kinda old news by now for the AToC patrons as I already posted about this two months ago, but I’ve been busy writing out scenes so I thought it would also make a neat post for the blog!
Progress so far
Basically, I've outlined the scenes in CH10 in what turned out to be, fittingly, 10 bullet points. It's pretty packed, so I think the chapter will be on the longer end, but the pacing will be slow and steady.
One thing I'll tell you that I'm excited to get into is the Crown's magic training, as well as their private tutoring. Originally, I planned to have introduced all the tutors by CH8, but there was too much going on to fit it into the story.
The tutors were meant to be part of the main cast at first, but early on I realized the cast would grow too large with not enough time to give each character their due. In the end, I decided it would be better to make the tutors very minor background characters. There are so many subjects the Crown will be taught in, which means they'll have a lot of tutors as well. Let me show you with a list!
✨ The Crown's Tutoring Extravaganza ✨
In languages, such as various Arsurian dialects
In literature, poetry and art
In etiquette and courtly manner
In physical training and combat
In military strategy and tactics
In domestic politics, trade and Arsurian history
In foreign politics and diplomacy
In geography and continental history
In mathematics and astronomy
In Arsurian magic history and theory
In magic training and practice
In ethics and philosophy
Lots of things for the Crown to learn! When they're not governing they'll likely be tutored, as there are a lot of things they need to catch up on. I plan to allow a choice for the player to decide which part of the tutoring the Crown likes best, and generalize it into preferences for:
(1) practical subjects, such as magic training, etiquette and physical training (which includes weaponry, for the anon who asked!)
(2) creative subjects, such as literature, art and philosophy
(3) worldly subjects, such as languages, history, geography and military strategy
(4) logical subjects, such as mathematics, astronomy and magic theory
(5) social subjects, such as politics, diplomacy and trade.
I can't use terms like 'science/scientific' or 'humanities' in the game since those wouldn't have been invented yet or don’t quite fit the world of AToC, so I'm using fitting approximations that I made up for the most part!
The story also won't show every single subject being taught to the Crown, obviously, as that would hugely bloat the story. You can expect these to be mentioned in passing, with short timeskip snippets of the Crown learning. Like a training montage, but for their mind lol.
Which preference would your Crown have?
Something to think about 👀
