THE PUNISHMENT OF PROMETHEUS
Tumblr media
The titans called him a traitor
Subjected him to punishment
Knowing very well he was hurt to feel it, not to die
~
Eating from his liver
His hands in chains
And yet he didn't shiver
~
Knowing well he did the wrong thing
And his fate, he chose to make his decision
To bring humans fire

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The people called him a saviour,
For the gifts he had returned.
With fire he brought great favour,
Not to him but to everyone.
~
For him; a punishment worse than death,
Infinite pain and torment.
~
For his kindness he was loved.
For his trickery, he was abhorred.
~
The people saw him; a saviour.
The titans named him; a traitor.
But to me, he was simply a man whose desire,
Was to bring us man, fire.

Disclaimer: hello loves, just wanted to put it out there that as y'all know I'm Muslim and in no way believe in the factuality of Greek mythology. I and my friend simply wrote this in reference to what we thought was an interesting story. Enjoy

The Story of Icarus
The Burning Price of Freedom
When I was born,
Freedom was not something I tasted.
Infact, I envied
All that let it go wasted.
I never grew up,
Running from chores;
No.
I ran from roars.
A man half bull.
A beast left starved.
The three of us trapped,
In the maze my father carved.
I was never smart.
I left that to my father.
I only helped,
when he started to stagger.
Sometimes I’d look,
into the sky,
And I’d wonder,
Why?
Why did I have to live this punishment?
Why did I have to die down here?
Why did I have to be a part of such a cruel world?
And then we decided,
We would leave.
And when we did,
We would be freed.
So my father thought,
and he schemed.
And some days we worked so hard,
That we couldn’t hear the screams,
Of the fourteen tributes.
Seven woman, seven men,
Who were brought from Athens,
To their end.
And then,
We started to plan.
We would build wings,
To hold a man.
One whole year,
We worked and we welded,
Until we had golden wings,
That with wax they melded,
Fast to our backs.
‘Not too high or too low’,
Father warned.
‘For you’ll plummet below’
‘Of course father,
I know’.
But when we took flight,
I was not prepared,
For the freedom,
That I felt flared.
I was soaring
in the very sky,
That i used to
look up to and cry.
Father had this feeling,
Bound tight.
For unlike me,
He once knew the feeling of flight.
So I laughed,
and I sung,
As I flew higher,
Towards the sun.
“Icarus no!”
My father tried,
But his voice was lost,
By the wind and the ride.
So I flew higher,
For I've never felt more free.
It was enough to get drunk,
Enough to not see.
But I didn’t care,
I wanted to touch my sun.
Feel his embrace,
Where I had none.
Alas,
I never got there,
My wax melted,
And then started to tear.
And so I fell,
But it wasn’t sad,
I wanted freedom,
That’s not so bad.
And as the sea took me,
Into it’s icy embrace,
I smiled where no one,
Could ever give chase.
And so I smiled at Charon,
And handed him my gold,
And i went through Hades’ gates,
To a future untold.

Sing O goddess, of Hera's rage, how they vilified her for it, even if she was a woman betrayed. Sing O goddess, of Helen's desire, how everyone forgot she was the daughter of the most powerful God and that was what made the whole world burn. Sing O goddess, of Hestia's fires, how she left the cruelty of Olympus for a peaceful life - how she gave Prometheus the idea to steal the sacred flames for the mortal world. Sing O goddess, but not of Odysseus or Menelaus, Achilles or Agamemnon. Sing instead of women full of fire. Sing us the torch song which brings wildfire when Goddesses like you are ignored.

Isn't it freaking adorable how both Odysseus and Penelope could remember down to exact detail what clothing she had packed for Odysseus before he left for war even 20 years later?!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
And she packed them herself. She didn't use the help of any servant or slave to do it. She wanted to prepare her husband herself. What is even more is that all the clothes were of vibrant colors which had me thinking;
What if Penelope deliberately prepared vibrant colored clothes for Odysseus solely so that she could see him from afar for as long as possible?! And man I can so imagine her doing the same! Like standing on the top of the hill where the palace is, wearing a vibrant dress that floats in the wind, holding baby Telemachus in her arms and watch Odysseus's bright tunic on the ship and Odysseus turning his head to look up at that aetherial figure on the hill almost leaning over the ship to see her JUST FOR A LITTLE LONGER until he cannot see her anymore and this is where he keeps looking at his island becoming smaller and smaller to the horizon, shedding tears of goodbye
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Man ninjas are cutting onions around me again!!!

i like how in modern internet greek mythology apollo hits you with a red ball to grant you the gift of prophecy, while in ancient greek greek mythology, eros hits you with a purple ball to make you... fall in love with people who arent attracted to your gender?
Again golden-haired Eros, striking me with his purple ball, calls me to play with the girl who has fancy sandals; but she (for she comes from well-built Lesbos) finds fault with my hair since it is white, and gapes at someone else, a woman.
(Anacreon fragment from Athenaeus 13.599C-D)
