Isn't it freaking adorable how both Odysseus and Penelope could remember down to exact detail what clothing she had packed for Odysseus before he left for war even 20 years later?!
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
And she packed them herself. She didn't use the help of any servant or slave to do it. She wanted to prepare her husband herself. What is even more is that all the clothes were of vibrant colors which had me thinking;
What if Penelope deliberately prepared vibrant colored clothes for Odysseus solely so that she could see him from afar for as long as possible?! And man I can so imagine her doing the same! Like standing on the top of the hill where the palace is, wearing a vibrant dress that floats in the wind, holding baby Telemachus in her arms and watch Odysseus's bright tunic on the ship and Odysseus turning his head to look up at that aetherial figure on the hill almost leaning over the ship to see her JUST FOR A LITTLE LONGER until he cannot see her anymore and this is where he keeps looking at his island becoming smaller and smaller to the horizon, shedding tears of goodbye
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Man ninjas are cutting onions around me again!!!

As you may have seen @katerinaaqu and I have been discussing about a head canon of hers, tatted Odysseus.
For a while we searched for Scythian tattoos as they are the closest society that allowed tattoos, we weren´t sure if in Mykenean Greece they were frowned upon but in classical Greece they were (criminals, shady or barbaric people wore them).
So to make it plausible we came up with this idea: in the middle of the Troyan war in a resupply day, Menelaus and Agamemnon find Odysseus been tattooed an olive tree by a Scythian, perplexed by this they told him that it was a nothing a king should do, shady look.
But Odysseus told them it was a memory of his home of Penelope and Telamachus, that at least if he died there it would have died with his family. Also is a display of Ody´s more flamboyant personality traits, he didn´t tattoed a small olive or branch, nonono, he tattoed a whole tree!.
As the real design is composed of branches inspired by Scythians tattoos of deer´s antlers, (the lack of trees in the steppes prevented them from forming a more floral and plant style; being deer's antlers where we find more plant 'like designs),
Tumblr media
The olive flowers are simplifications of the actual flower,
Flowers for my beautiful wife, whom I longed for, for years
Tumblr media
The leaves are blackouts of the originals and the olives are also simplifications.
The sweet fruit of my dear Telemachus whom I never saw growing
The images below are the sketches I made for having an idea of the placement and elements we wanted to include.
We chose the upper arm as it was more concealable and only be fully revealed to Penelope.
As you can see there´s a swallow drawing, it has it reasons, swallows (Hirundo rustica) have a year migration and came back to Europe and Greece in spring, being heralds of the season and all that entails (hope, regrowth, fertility...) but the most important attributes for us were; (Athena transforms into a swallow and flies away from Telemachus in the Odyssey). Also it is mentioned that the chord of Odysseus's bow "sang like a swallow" when he used it to kill the suitors symbolizing his homecoming.
Swallows have always been linked to journeys specially to homecoming. They idea was of one swallow (Odysseus) but swallows are paired and as a small reminder, the biggest and most ornate is Penelope, fully in flight and more artistically and Odysseus is the one below more naturalistic as he is lesser in his eyes than her. The swallows are more linear and not painted as it also seems more secretive and blank spaces for everyone except him (So he can say everything I have been writing to her)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These is the final rendition of the idea!
Tumblr media
I hope you have enjoyed and that it becomes your new headcanon!
@katerinaaqu thank you so much for everything! It has been a pleasure!

for Odysseus’ name to become synonymous with journey; Odyssey- he has lost his humanity; even after he dies and his body burnt to ashes on a pyre he won’t enter Hades. he will be damned to a thousand more journeys, a thousand more trials and a thousand more deaths. his spirit floats through the plays that recite his journey, echoes through the songs sung about him, his pain seeks through every epithet. Sacker of cities. Great glory of the Achaeans. Mastermind of war. Master mariner. Man of pain.
he will be damned time and time again to suffer and reach home for it to be torn out of his grasp each time. he will reach where the river styx fades into Hades and see the descent and before he can feel relief he is back where he started. He is in Troy. He is in a boat in an unfamiliar land, but it has his name. He is in Troy again, but not the same one he raided and burnt. he is floating through the aether. he is not a man anymore. nor is he monster. he is a Thing, an Ideal; akin more to Thanatos or Hypnos or Eris in he is no longer Odysseus he is the personification of journey.
If there truly are three deaths; one of the mind, one of the heart, and one of the memory. then Odysseus has become immortal and yet he begs for death. he no longer knows whether he begs for the peace of Hades or to truly be forgotten, to truly cease to be

You look back at your house as the taxi drives off, clutching your carry on luggage in your hand. You don't want to leave him but... it felt suffocating, disheartening having to spend everyday with a Custodes that pushes you away at every turn.
There were nice moments with him, he's a good roommate you suppose. Though you can't help but feel unsatisfied, cheated even. Why did others get Space Marines that would dote on and love them so freely while you got stuck with him? I-it's not fair! You want that warm, loving, supportive relationship. Want to come home from work and be able to hug your Custodes.
You sigh as you look out the window, watching the scenery pass by. Odysseus disappears every few months for a few days and you decided to take this moment to leave without him knowing. It isn't right... running from him when he has stayed with you all this time. Would he miss you though? He hasn't done much to show that he truly cares that much about you.
It's just a two week vacation... maybe. You don't know. Maybe you will come back, maybe you won't. You feel guilty for leaving, you feel relieved to be away. Wanting him here, freedom that he isn't.
Odysseus returns to his human's house after 5 days in the wilderness. He stops the moment his human's home is in view, narrowing his eyes. It's dirty. The leaves aren't swept and as he gets closer, he can see a layer of dust that's starting to build on the surfaces.
No sighs of a struggle or fight, there's some food in the fridge, clearly left for him. But where is his human? Where is HIS human? He growls, agitated as he searches the house for her. Panic building within him, until he finds a note on her desk.
An apology. From her to him. Apologizing for leaving, that she just needs time away. Away from him? She promises that she will come back eventually. Why doesn't she mention when she will be back? She just needs to be alone and think about what she wants in the future. A future without him?
The chains that bind him to his Master ring out their slick, filthy delight and joy. Good, now he can devote his time to the Emperor. The vines of his bond to her writhe and scream, thorns digging into his soul as it punishes him for his failure to keep her happy and close. How dare he drive her away, doesn't he know how precious a gift this bond is?

Barn Anon. The Custodes thing i mentioned. Figured given what you’ve said and how they’re the Emperor’s 3 in 2 besties, advisors and guards. They’ll be more aware and while they do care for their human. There’s still some parts that’s less than pleased.
Odysseus worries about only a few things, yet they're such important things that he mind as well be juggling the world. His Master, the Emperor, how he might best serve and stop anything that might be a danger to him, his fellow Custodes, and now this fragile... primitive human.
He watches as his human sweeps the leaves that had fallen overnight. He can't understand why does he have this bond with her. He had discovered that such bonds aren't that uncommon for the Space Marines that had found themselves in this positively ancient version of Terra. He's largely content and even happy or delighted to have this special bond with his human.
Yet there's a part of him that's repulsed by this bond. He's a Custodes, one of the Emperor's Ten Thousand, he shouldn't be so affected by this! Then there was the fact that he can't just can't simply up and walk away from her and never look back. Well he could and he tried. He found himself racing back to her within a month. T-this... This must be some sort of corruption or something. He feels like he's being manipulated into staying and caring for this vulnerable human and that by doing so, he's betraying his Lord and Master.
He tightens his grip on his spear as he watches his human move back into her house. How he wishes he could just drive it into her and watch the life fade from her. He would be freed from this invisible chain binding him to her. He would be free to seek out a way to return to the Emperor. He would... shatter.
Odysseus nearly drops his spear as suddenly revulsion, guilt and shame surges through him. As if punishing him for even daring to have such thoughts. He wants to throw up. He struggles against the tide of emotion, only barely managing to tread the waters of this tsunami. He grits his teeth and rids such thoughts from his mind. As soon as he focuses on caring for his human, the tide recedes and is replaced by the warm sunlight of joy, devotion and even love.
This sudden unnatural shift in emotions is only further proof to him, that this bond isn't right. He shouldn't feel this way. But what other choice does he have? Odysseus sighs. At least humanity has yet to discover rejuvenation treatments. If he's lucky, his human would die of natural causes by the end of this century. He growls as he tries to shove aside those dark thoughts. No. If he's lucky, his human will live to see the next century.

A Custodes... an Adeptus Custodes... a companion... and a myriad of other titles you hardly remember him giving as he eventually just said that they would be here for a good part of a month if he was to sit and list all his titles.
There were no guides or forums for you to look on for help about this... Odysseus had said as much as well... he refused to answer if there were more than just him...all he said was that there were more Grey Knights around then Custodes... and well since no one really knew how many Astartes were around.... it felt like a non answer.
You sighed as it was hard and perhaps you were a little jealous given how affectionate you saw others with their Astartes and you had a prickly and standoffish creature but you try your best to show him your affection for him back. But it felt like he was always keeping you at arms length... you hardly talked about him to others who gushed about their companions as he felt more like a roommate.
But when you come home one day you pause by the once blank wall seeing the classical beauty painted all over it making you just sit on the floor... like a bench you would sit on in the museum. You could see a seamless combination of all your favorite classical works somehow all referenced in one flowing piece.
"Your mood has been... 'down in the dumps' as you would say. So I tried my best to alleviate it. Come for dinner." Is all he said before wandering off leaving you to smile as you kick off your shoes and rush to see what he has made as you know it will be delicious!

Made it!
Small blurb based on that comic by @wolfythewitch
I know she wanted to see it, so ill tag @silvercaptain24 too ;)
Odysseus and Telemachus laid out in the fields. The sun was slowly approaching the sunset. Odysseus wanted to close his eyes, but he knew if he did he would fall asleep, and his sleep didn’t come with peace. So he sat up. He watched the shadows get longer.
Telemachus watched the clouds as the day replayed in his head. He couldn’t help but feel a sweet giddiness after spending a whole day with his father. It didn’t matter what they were up to, following his dad’s shenanigans was his new favorite hobby.
“Did they tell you about me? While I was gone?”
Telemachus looked over to his father. “Of course! They told me plenty!” The young man recalled the tales he heard along his travels. “They called you Polytropos, sacker of cities-“ he chuckled softly as he sat up, “Master mariner, lord of lies.” His father’s friends spoke highly of Odysseus and all the crazy things he managed to pull off during war. Telemachus always got a kick out of them. When he looked over to his father, however, the older man had a distant look; Solemn, sad, almost… disappointed.
“Nothing else?”
Odysseus voice threatened to crack. At first Telemachus couldn’t figure out what was bothering him. Something clicked then. I only named things from his days at war; away from home. Telemachus thought of his mother; he too cherished the stories she told the most. “Hah, how could I forget-“
Telemachus leaned on his dad’s shoulder. “Father of dear Telemachus.”
Odysseus tried to hide his expression. He cover his mouth with the back of his hand. Telemachus could see how close he was to tears. “Mother never let me forget how proud of me you were.”
Odysseus smiled. “She was right. I was always so proud.” Odysseus reminded himself how lucky he was to have her.
“I heard that’s how you introduced yourself.” Odysseus looked down at his son. “At war, your friends all said you would go on and on about your small family back on Ithaca.” Telemachus smiled in the memory. He had always had his doubts about what his mother had told him; how could be so proud if he had never properly met him? But those stories Menelaus told, of his father constantly ranting about the family he so longed for. Odysseus lightly chuckled. That yearning he felt hadn’t quieted down till fairly recently.
The duo watched the sun lower on the horizon. The sky turned a pretty shade of pinkish orange. They finally had each other, and what ever scars they got along the way was worth it for this moment alone.
It was worth it.

“Epic makes of Poseidon a great lord of the sea, emerging from his palace under the waves near Aegae to aid the Achaeans in battle, or rousing a storm to drown Odysseus on his raft. But Poseidon himself is a complex Mycenaean deity whose origins lie further inland; he is the Earth-Shaker, an ancestral god with ties to freshwater springs and horses. Even in the Iliad (13.10–30), the dominant image is that of Poseidon as a charioteer, driving his golden-maned horses over the sea. He himself is not a personification of the sea, but its ruler. If Poseidon is a lord of elemental forces, his Nereid consort Amphitrite is more closely identified in the Odyssey with the element itself: she breeds many monsters (Odyssey 5.417–22, 12.90) and the waves are hers (Odyssey 3.85, 12.55). Amphitrite is more than a literary invention; she often appears in cultic contexts with Poseidon, as at Isthmia (Pausanias 2.1.7). An archaic votive dump at Penteskouphia near Corinth yielded clay pinakes depicting Amphitrite with smaller-sized worshipers, or riding in a chariot with Poseidon.
In Greek mythology, the gods who represent the sea share its unbounded nature as the source of creatures formless and strange to human eyes. Monsters and shape-shifters, the latter often possessed of prophetic powers, come from the sea. Nereus and his congeners Proteus and Glaucus are Masters of Animals who control the supply of fish and other marine animals. In Greek fishermen’s folklore, these Old Men of the Sea were elusive shape-changers who could tell one’s fortune if captured. In Greek religious practice, on the other hand, the overriding concern with regard to the sea was safe travel. Many gods could be called upon to protect mariners, especially those resident in harbor towns (often Aphrodite or Poseidon). The Dioscuri, who appeared in ships’ rigging during storms in the form of St Elmo’s fire, were popularly viewed as saviors who warded off disaster at sea (Alcaeus fr. 34 Campbell).
Homer was also instrumental in shaping the image of the sea nymphs called Nereids, who were closely associated with the story of Achilles. Thetis, the Nereid mother of the hero, seems to have played an important role in early Greek cosmology; the Iliad alludes to her rescue and/or sheltering of Zeus, Dionysus, and Hephaestus in their times of need, while she figures in a fragment of Alcman as ‘‘the origin of all,’’ a primal creative force (Calame 1983 fr. 81). Thetis was destined to bear a son more powerful than his father and thus posed a threat to any god, including Zeus, who pursued her. Like Ge, she was imagined as a powerful primordial figure, who first threatened, then helped to bring about, the cosmic order, allowing herself to be subordinated in the process. Slatkin (1991:79) relates Thetis’ humble status in Homeric epic to the fact that her cult, unlike those of the Olympian gods, remained geographically limited. One of the few cults of Thetis belonged to Cape Sepias in Thessaly, where the Persians, having suffered heavy damage in a storm, sacrificed to her and the Nereids as local deities (Herodotus 7.191). A venerable Spartan cult of Thetis (Pausanias 3.14.4) may have inspired Alcman’s cosmological verses. Altars and thank offerings to the Nereids as a group, on the other hand, are relatively common. Like other marine deities, they could prevent disasters at sea. An early example is Sappho’s prayer to Cypris (Aphrodite) and the Nereids (fr. 5 Campbell) for the safe sea journey of her brother Charaxus. Ino/Leucothea, who was transformed into a Nereid after leaping from a cliff into the sea, saved Odysseus from drowning by giving him her magical veil (Odyssey 5.33–8). With her son Palaemon, also a sea-god and guardian of ships, Ino was honored at Poseidon’s sanctuary of Isthmia and elsewhere. Leucothea and Palaemon possessed a dual identity as drowned mortals (hence the chthonic and funerary elements in their cults) and as reborn gods who offered salvation to sailors in peril and the hope of an afterlife to those who drowned. Far more than the terrestrial nymphs, the Nereids were associated with death and rebirth. In epic, they play an important role as mourners of Patroclus and Achilles (Iliad 18.282–313; Odyssey 24.45–89), while post-Homeric literature and art focused on their ability to confer a blessed afterlife on the deceased, just as Thetis brought Achilles to the White Island in the Euxine where he was immortalized.”

Ok SO Claudia and some friends borrow Parti's ship to see the east. During this adventure that was supposed to be a year long, they go too far north and the storms make them drift super far west, beyond the western continent. In the middle of the ocean, they get attacked by a monster and the ship is capsized. There's two survivors, Claudia, and her friend. Her friend manages to go home and tells Parti and Castti that Claudia is dead.
Meanwhile, Claudia drifts to a deserted island. There's a tribe living there and they take her in but are horrible to her. After a year of basically being forced to stay with magic, she's had enough and steals a rowboat and leaves. Her boat gets found by Argus' old crew, and they bring her to Grandport. Argus (halfway through his story) takes her in and she's there to finish his story. He then decides to help her go home. Bc Galatea is a marine biologist, she manages to identify the monster based on Claudia's descriptions.
Claudia spends the entire story becoming stronger, then in the final chapter, her, Argus, Galatea and the crew go out to kill the monster. When they do, the storms in that part of the sea stop for good bc the monster had been creating them. The crew takes her home and she reunites with her parents.
For the "becoming stronger" part of her story, I was thinking she could have one chapter where she goes to the arena and gets taught how to better use an axe by someone there (unlocks a new axe skill here) and another chapter would have her meet some master healer that teaches her how to use poisons. A running theme throughout her story is that everything she does is incredibly difficult, way outside her skillset and takes a long time to complete because she's inspired by Odysseus :3 so also she's cheery at the beginning but by the time she gets home, she's miserable and just wants to hug her parents till she dies
the only survivor of the shipwreck besides claudia being claudia’s friend who goes back to castti and partitio to tell them that claudia’s dead… thats worse than castti and partitio just not hearing from her after the shipwreck I think. at least then they could have some small hope that she made it out, but with her friend coming back to tell them that she’s dead, no such luck.
I need one billion asks about argus and claudia being friends this instant and I am not kidding/lh
AGH. CLAUDIA’S GRADUAL LOSS OF ONNICENCE AND CHERRINESS THOUGH HER STORY UNTIL SHE FINALLY RETURNS TO HER PARENTS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PERSON SHE WAS BEFORE SHE LEFT……… AAAAAAAAUGH

I have a random headcannon (not sure if I will keep it) that Odysseus never ate another fish in his life
In Greece (not sure if it is the same in other places as well) we have this old tradition that if a family loses a sailor relative at the sea they never eat fish again because fish eat dead bodies that sink in the water so in a way they honor the dead by not eating fish because "fish have eaten their loved one"
So imagine if that was a thing in antiquity or simply Odysseus made a pledge with himself and never eats another fish in his life to honor all the fallen comrades that found tragic death in the sea (especially the last ship)
Sorry! Random headcannons again!

Ocean Torrents
Merverse Part 1 | Part 2
rated M, gore, trauma, death, war, betrayal, language barrier. Echo/Fives(/Rex if you squint)
Fives is a pretty experienced dude, as these things go. He’s a sergeant and a raider and he is good enough to be on the team of The Marine, MSgt Ward. He loves what he does and he is skilled at it.
He’s never seen anything like this.
He’s in the weird zone now where his body is doing all the things it needs to do to survive, but his mind is feeding him a constant stream of bullshit like how the sea really does look like wine, Odysseus had it right. He was a warrior aboard a ship too, and damn.
The blood in the water is going to be attracting sharks. He scans frantically, trying to locate his troopers, Jester, or Hound and Grizzer. Slick’s boys are supposed to be holding the other side, but he can’t tell in this clusterfuck.
Too far away to easily get to, he thinks he sees Top’s distinctive dark beard …and the way the grunt with him moves, that’s Jester located. Bacara’s got him, he’ll be alright. Fives is probably going to get his ass chewed by his master sergeant for misplacing his shiny, but his kid isn’t alone and he has better than even odds of making it with that kind of buddy. That’s more important than Fives’ pride.
Lt Tano and Gunny Faie are still in play, he sees by the pop of smoke to his starboard, but they aren’t his concern. Where are the rest of his boys?
He puts two fingers in his mouth and whistles sharp and loud, then moves. It’ll get SGT G’s attention at least, and when his ears perk up, Hound will notice. He can’t stay where he whistled from though, too much of an enemy target there.
He’s not even sure who the enemy is, at this point. Everything is insane, storm thrashing, water roiling, thunder and lighting, shouts and screaming. There’s some kind of whirlpool happening, and his mind goes Greek Classics again—Charybdis. Now all they need is a six-headed monster to eat squads at a time and a bunch of sirens trying to drown them.
There’s a surprising amount of solid surface for a sea battle, though very little of it is level. Ships have toppled and collided, wreckage and flotsam making a half-submerged shifting maze.
He hears the scramble, splatter, wet patter, and jingle of Sergeant G coming out of the water. He acknowledges her and looks up for Corporal Hound, who should be right behind him. Empty space.
Grizzer runs up to him and noses his knees, turns twice for ‘follow me’, and runs back to the edge of the deck, leaning down. Fives goes to see, maybe Hound is still climbing. Maybe he sent Sergeant G to Search.
It is not Hound.
Well. It is. It’s just …not anymore. His body bobs in the water nearby, dead beyond a doubt. Ravaged, nearly in half. Grizzer is whining and pawing at the deck edge. She must have rescue-dragged the body of her handler the whole way here. Fives’ heart goes out to their K9. “Good girl, Grizzer; good job, girl,” he says with tears threatening in his throat, ruffling the dog’s ears.
Taking his blade between his teeth, he goes down the side of the platform and into the water with no splash. It’ll be gory, but he cannot leave a fallen brother behind. He secures Corporal Hound’s remains above deck as far above the waterline as he can, marking the location and hoping this wreckage doesn’t shift and sink before they can retrieve him.
“Leave it,” he commands the mastiff, knowing it’s not fair but necessary and might save Grizzer’s life.
“Sergeant Torres!!” That’s Lt Garcia’s voice! He’s never heard such a beautiful sound in his life, not even when they’d been sobbing out his name —and not his last name— just the other day. They haven’t defined anything yet, only been tipsy and giggling together, sharing a bunk a couple times, haven’t even gone on a date. Fives looks around to locate them and his brain chooses that moment to remind him of sirens’ mimicry again. Cautiously, he goes on the move.
“Grizzer, Heel,” he commands in a hoarse whisper, and Grizzer’s ears go alert. She comes in close, and then Fives sends her around the corner, “Grizzer, Search.” She really is a good marine. Fives hefts his long knife in a reverse grip, not even trying to mess with his sidearm in this kind of wet.
Grizzer barks once sharply for contact and then makes no more noise. “Grizzer, good girl. Did you find Fives? God, I hope so,” Echo says, sounding exhausted. He doesn’t indicate duress, even though he’s apparently forgotten all of the approved commands. Good enough, even though neither marine has given the all-clear.
He comes round the corner and stops dead. The corridor tilts downward and is half-submerged. It is Echo there, crumpled against a bulkhead, wan and somehow diminished, but at least it’s not their midsection missing. They’re wet and bloody and have an emergency blanket wrapped around them. Their legs must be tucked underneath, but they’re too low to be kneeling.
Behind them, half-immersed with elbows out of the water, is a stranger. A very, very large, sharp-toothed, shark-finned stranger.
Sing to me, oh muse, thinks Fives a little hysterically. Monsters of the deep are real.

Odysseus stares at the hand on his arm, his human lightly tugging him along behind her. She had wanted to do some hiking and he couldn't let her go knowing there's the chance of her getting hurt.
She can handle herself, he knows that. The damn bond though.. it shrieks at him when he didn't hurry after her when she left the house. It's jagged fangs sinking deep into his being, like acid being poured over an open wound. He rushes after her after an agonizing few minutes. The bond sang it's approval then, rewarding with heady haze of contentment and delight.
Now in the woods, she has her hand on his arm. He wants to grab it and crush it in his hands, hear the bones snap and blood flow as she cries in pain. He wants to move her hand so that he may hold it in his own, gently, as she deserves to be treated. How dare she welcome this unnatural bond? Why is she cursed to be his human? Why didn't his master make him able to love freely?
He want to see the life flicker and fade from her eyes, hear her scream and beg. It isn't right, isn't fair, to either of them. Why can't he give what those lesser Space Marines and traitors are able to so freely provide their humans? Isn't he better than them?
He wants. He should. He can't.
She turns and looks at him with hurt and confusion as he brushes her hand off his arm. He shamefully refuses to meet her gaze. It's better this way for both of them.
Safer.

Barn Anon. Remembered that the Emperor had tried to terraform (re-terraform?) Terra so...
You noticed that your "Space Marine" has a habit of getting up early to watch the sun's rays slowly peak out from the horizon. Sometimes you would join him but other times you simply slept in. It's something that struck you as odd but with how Space Marines are... it's one of the least worrying behaviours. Simply a quirk in what makes your Odysseus, Odysseus.
Odysseus never spoke to you about what he is, or the world he came from. How privileged he is to serve the Emperor himself, to have fought at his side only to fail when it mattered most. He and his brothers know of the Emperor's dream of restoring Terra's beauty, having seen some of the short-lived lakes and reservoirs reintroduced as part of the great program to restore Terra’s ecosystem. He knows some oceans had been brought back but with how much of the wildlife had gone extinct and records that might aid in their reconstruction destroyed..
He kept his doubts about the success of such a project to himself, especially when the siege started and those small pockets of beauty were once more erased by the ravenous belly of war. It wasn't till he found himself bonded with you that he started noticing the natural beauty of Ancient Terra. Is this what his master hoped to restore?
Hues of orange and yellow spill over the horizon, the birds are already filling the chilly morning air with song. He wouldn't move until the sun has fully risen, when he can hear you moving about within your house. You were in the middle of making breakfast when he breezes into the kitchen, a odd bittersweet air seems to always cling to him. Mornings especially, not that it would ever stop him from being your "Space Marine". It's just a what makes your Odysseus who he is after all.
Yep I know what you mean

You tried to get up before Odysseus but you never could. You remember asking him if he slept and he said he did but sometimes you never feel like you've seen him sleep. You make him a small breakfast for a large man he surprisingly eats very little and you've expressed your worry... he says to not worry and should he want something he can cook it himself.
You try to do so much for your Astartes... though you have a feeling he might not be one... given how he's so much bigger than them. Even the large salamanders are smaller... only things bigger than him are usually dreadnaughts and feral mutated Astartes. But you've asked around on some forums just what he is.
But regardless of the truth or not you're just happy that he seems to appreciate what you do... how you are content with him just being in the room with you... content to just exist together and you suppose that's all you can ask for.

FGO LB 5.1 Atlantis, complete
Finally finished this. It is a lot of reading, a lot of NPC support only battles, and generally a ride. Can’t wait for April and 5.2.
The pros:
The strongest part of Atlantis is definitely the characterization of the team.
The Servants we pick up are.... Mandricardo is just perfect and amazing. Jason just got completely turned around from his Okeanos showing, while still remaining obviously himself. Corday had me in tears. Achilles and Paris interactions were great, as well as seeing Achilles explain himself in general. Chiyome’s personality is quite different from what I thought? Not necessarily in her core values, but in her bits of humor. Bart is a sweetheart, dumb fetish and all.
And of course, I finally understand Orion and Artemis (a relationship that could never lead to something stable and long term but isn’t any less important or precious for it; no matter how much trouble they give each other, I can’t imagine either of them would ever even entertain the idea of giving up those memories and experiences). Amazing. I can’t believe Fate provides the good het.
The Chaldea crew also continue to slowly solidify in their roles and development. It’s amazing to think about how far Gordy has come, and the introduction of the marines really adds something to Nemo. And of course, Mash...
However, one of the big winners is also, surprisingly, Ritsuka. I’ve heard that LB6 will really flesh them out, but even here, Ritsuka has become an actual character with very understandable fears and hang ups, and a lot of the ways in which the Servants shine is their interactions with Ritsuka. The master-servant relationship has always been great in Fate, so it’s good to see more of that.
Unrelated, but the visuals have also taken another step up. There’s a lot of very cinematic effects and good use of the CGs. It’s really become a full entertainment experience lol.
The cons:
There’s some general stuff like Chiyome and especially Bart being present as pretty much entirely utility. Bart really just exists to give us another ship and that’s it, which is a bit of a loss. He’s very cute when he does get something to add. Additionally, there’s a definite lack of both civilians and villains. Everyone in Atlantis is brainwashed to an entirely new level even by LB standards, so we can’t get much out of interacting with them, which is a shame. The union-mandated cute child character is usually quite good.
As for villains, Wodime and Caenis drop out pretty early, leaving only Odysseus and later Chiron. Neither of them has much to say, and they’re more or less just roadblocks that you can explain the aesop to. There’s also not really a proper final boss, as a result, since Artemis is dealt with via cutscene, and Poseidon only has cores that function like large monsters more than bosses.
Aside from that, I was personally not super impressed with the focus on technological advancement as a benchmark of “worthy” timelines. There’s moving forward and there’s “advancing” technology, and I don’t think they should really be conflated like that. The issue for the people of Atlantis isn’t that they don’t try to create better technology than nanomachines that already provide all their needs. It’s that they don’t even try to live, like going anywhere or creating any kind of art that we see, etc.
This entire business with the pruning is created by the writer(s), and the framing is chosen intentionally. I don’t think tying in technology is necessary. There’s other ways people can live and “advance.”
Misc:
The David Bluebook portion at the start was even more mysterious than usual. There is uh a lot to speculate about there, and I am seriously wondering about the possible Daybit connection. I’m sure it will all pay off...... in like five years lol
Jason’s Herc fanboying is really something.
Europa isn’t in the LB at all?? I have no idea why she’s released here.
In terms of gameplay, this LB is quite easy. It does have a lot of battles with restrictions related to the story, like Support solos, but those battles are balanced toward the easy side (via nerfing the enemies and special buffs).
The Greek gods being spaceships is cool shit.
There’s a lot of offhand lines that are kinda sus. Like Jason commenting that it’s almost like Atlantis was preparing for an entirely different enemy, not Chaldea, or Orion saying that Chaldea received the torch that the heroes of old passed on and that someday Ritsuka will also pass it on.
For now, they managed a fairly good balance between mounting difficulties and not making it so stacked against the team that their victory starts to seem like an asspull, but they are kind of starting to push too far with the narrations about how this is so much harder than anything we’ve experienced, how Olympus is so much harder than Atlantis, etc, etc.
NPCs with too much knowledge talking shit cryptically in the darkness isn’t cool, it’s annoying. I’m going to blame Sakurai for this, deserved or not.
