❗️Spoilers❗️
i just wanna talk about the relationship between henry and camilla
So, I am sure that henry never loved camilla and was with her only for the sake of aesthetics.
And when he shot himself, he was full of triumph because he had achieved a moment worthy of being described by Homer himself or Euripides. The girl suffering after his tragic suicide, what an intensity of passions!
Richard was probably beaming and giggling stupidly while he wrote about it

“i kin francis!” “i kin charles!” “i kin camilla!” nope! you are a richard papen kin. we are all richard papen kin’s, and tbh i believe that that was one of the points of his character. (unless, of course, you claim to be a henry kin. then you are undeniably bunny)

I will become rich, befriend you, become depended on you because you're the only one to make me laugh and then push you off a cliff.

Just felt like I haven't re-read TSH in a while. So I wondered if I could write a full blown essay (not really, more like a brief analysis) on the characters from TSH.
I might not even end up writing them but I would like to know which characters people are most interested in learning in-depth about.
There's so much to say about this story that no one can ever stop analysing it. If Donna took 10 years to complete it, there must be so much we can discuss about it!!!
I will try to write a detailed analysis when I have the time to re-read TSH (studying for exams, writing a book and reading "The Bell Jar" and "Pet Sematary" for the 1st time lol)
I hope this will inspire people to make more post abt TSH theories/analysis/thoughts (been tired with the regular mood boards and quotes)
(PS: "Looking Through The Male Gaze" for Camilla is about Richard's gaze, not Donna Tartt's)

PART 4
reading 'the secret history' by donna tartt for the first time, here are my thoughts after reading through chapter 4:
[CONTAINS SPOILERS] obviously
— holy hell
— THAT'S why richard thought bunny singing 'the farmer in the dell' would have "chilled them to the bone," i though it was just like a food-chain, plotting to kill bunny thing but no they killed a man in the countryside
— at first i was debating on whether it was murder or a suicide pact cause of the "if we'd actually gone"
— also i don't know,,,, whether julian is doing it on purpose or not (and i suspect he IS doing it at least somewhat on purpose) he is definitely putting ideas in their heads
— "cultic purity" yeah no shit
— richard is obessed with speculating over people's sexualities and relationships
— like that page+ where he speculated about henry being bunny's sugar daddy?????
— "so it's a sex ritual? what did y'all do then?"
— good lord richard
— "charles saw him in commons having a grilled cheese sandwich and a milk shake. that did it."

Lmao I just remembered, just before starting The secret history, I saw a Pinterest post and read that part where (I think it was-) Francis who kissed Richard (was it Charles? Or Francis? Not sure) anyway, I read that part and I mistook him for Henry (FOR SOME FUCKING REASON 😭) and this dumb girl thought Richard and Henry kissed and I waited the whole book to see it😭😭 like that has to be one of THE most embarrassing thing I've ever done.

the five homoerotic love languages:
- intimate stabbing
- outright obsession
- confused pining
- "no one knows me like you do"
- lifelong promises that always sound suspiciously like wedding vows

Today I discovered that a couple of TSH characters were based on actual people Donna Tartt knew at Bennington College- amongst them were students Todd O'Neal and Matt Jacobsen, who were the inspiration for Henry and Bunny respectively.
AND JUST—

There's even their own comments about it and it's so funny wait:

“Does such a thing as "the fatal flaw," that showy dark crack running down the middle of a life, exist outside literature?”
― Donna Tartt, The Secret History
PD: Hi, I'm doing a survey on Aesthetics for my university research, anyone who knows what aesthetics are can answer and I'd be very happy!
