I KNOW YOU
masterlist | rules
❝ Hello can you do an Athena! Reader Percy Jackson but completely different than Annabeth she is smart yes but seems dumber than she is. She is a bit of the psychologist if the group she like trying to read other emotion something like that. But this time it was Percy who try to understand her and is like a pillar to her. She is a bit insecure about her being less than others of her half brother and sister but he want to reassure her please. ❞ — @hope92100
pairing percy jackson x athena!reader
in which percy’s here regardless of the pain
warnings feelings of insecurity (? idk if this needs a warning but just in case!!)
on the radio . . . i know you (faye webster)
an set during mark of athena!!
As a daughter of Athena, you’ve always been expected to know everything. Whilst others had powers of chlorokinesis or an innate ability to heal, your strength was meant to be your wit. And for the most part, that was true - Athena’s kids have always been the smartest. However, you didn’t feel like you fit in with your half-siblings. No matter what you did, you always felt lesser than them
When you’d first gotten claimed by Athena, you were surprised, but accepted it. You thought maybe the cleverness would kick in now that she recognised you as her daughter, but you stayed the same. Later on, you’d realise that you’ve always had wit, but you were simply absorbing other people’s opinions of you and turning them into your identity. It took you a while to unlearn that habit, but eventually, you did
Your area of expertise has always lied in the feelings of others. Your emotional intelligence is what got you through a lot of life as a demigod, and you had a knack for knowing exactly what a person is going through just by looking at them, always providing comfort and support when needed
Now was one of those times. Your boyfriend, Percy, had been missing for about 6 months, and you were finally about to head off to Camp Jupiter to find him. When you first found out he was gone, you were, of course, devastated. However, you quickly pushed those feelings to the back of your mind once you noticed everyone else. They needed you. So you smiled and you comforted and you told the younger kids of how brave Percy is and how he’ll definitely come back
But to you, it wasn’t enough to just be a shoulder to cry on. When Jason had gotten assigned his first quest, he’d asked Annabeth if she could come along - not you. Despite knowing you’re Percy’s girlfriend, despite knowing that there was a chance of finding him on the quest, he asked Annabeth. You couldn’t help but be a little jealous. Intelligence has always come naturally to your sister and, unlike you, she never doubted herself. She’d rejected his offer, rambling about having her own searches to do, but you saw the pitiful look she cast you
Then, while everyone was preparing to head for San Francisco, you could do nothing but guide them through their emotions and make sure they were all mentally prepared for the voyage. Again, it wasn’t enough. Annabeth was doing research on the Romans with the help of Jason. Leo was building a whole ship. What were you doing?
Being in Percy’s arms again for the first time in half a year, you never felt more complete. Your boy was back home to you. Deep down, however, you couldn’t help but feel a little guilty. He’d remembered you, out of anyone in his life, you’re the only one who stuck. You didn’t deserve that title, not after you barely did anything to help find him. So, you distanced yourself. Surely, he’d be fine without you
Wrong. Percy noticed. Even though you’d been apart for so long, he’d never not notice any shift in your mood or behaviour. Your very being was etched into his brain. He could point you out in a room full of people without any of his senses. To him, you were akin to the very ocean that ran through his veins. In the end, he’d always gravitate towards you. No matter what. While you pulled away, he tried to tug you towards him
When he’d asked Annabeth if something had happened while he was gone, she’d told him no, and that you were probably just overwhelmed by it all. He tried to accept that, but he just couldn’t. He knew there was more to your situation
That very night, Tyche seemed to be smiling down at him, as he was fortunate enough to finally be able to speak with you alone. You were on the night shift, keeping watch in case any monsters decided to attack. Percy had woken with a start and itched to breathe in the salty air of the sea. When he came above deck, he was surprised to see you, having completely forgotten the schedule everyone agreed on
“Hey Y/N,” he said, startling you as he came over to stand next to you. You’d simply been staring up at the night sky, deep in thought, when your boyfriend showed up
Unable to hold his gaze, you replied, “hi Percy… how are you?”
He entertained your question, knowing the best way to get you to talk about your feelings is if he created an easy-going environment first. So, Percy told you all about what he’d been up to. His quest with Frank and Hazel, Octavian the teddy bear assassin augur, and the city of New Rome - where he wanted to grow old with you. Next thing you knew, you were laughing as if he were never gone
Once your giggles had died down, Percy asked the question that’d been weighing on his mind, “how are you, sweets? And don’t even try to tell me you’re fine because I know something’s up. What’s going on in that pretty head of yours?”
You knew you wouldn’t be able to hide from Percy any longer. As he held you in his arms, you spilled your deepest insecurities to him. How you felt absolutely useless in the months leading up to your departure from New York, which in turn led you to feel undeserving of his love. With every word, Percy felt the crack in his heart grow deeper and deeper. He never wanted you to feel this way. He wished nothing more than to have been there with you, to have talked your feelings out with you
Pressing a kiss into your hair, he said, “you’re not useless, Y/N. I don’t care what you think, I’m telling you now - you’re not useless. I’d say it for an eternity if that’s how long it’ll take for you to believe it. Do you really think we would’ve gotten this far without you? Honey, if you weren’t part of this quest, I’d still be wandering around Camp Jupiter thinking about when I’d get to see you again.”
You felt tears brim in your eyes and as Percy tenderly wiped them away, you realised he was right. Sure, you hadn’t helped Annabeth learn about the Romans very much, but when she broke down after being hunched over conjugations of different Latin verbs, you’d been there with a blanket and a cup of tea, reminding her that she didn’t need to be perfect and that the people of New Rome probably spoke English anyway. And when Leo was accused of betraying everyone by firing on New Rome, you’d defended him without hesitation, stopping the quest from failing before it even started. You also taught Piper how to properly use her knife instead of just stabbing everywhere and hoping for the best, and had given Leo the idea to take some plates from camp so that food wouldn’t be a worry
Percy stared down at you, and smiled when he noticed your shoulders relax and your eyes begin to droop, a clear sign of the multitude of nights you’d spent restless
There was nothing Hera could possibly do to separate the two of you again

🐚 Daughter of Neptune headcanons list 🌊 Part Two..
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
note: dam this was superrr long aswell, I hope I didn't bore y'all lol, I really enjoyed writing this actually! Again, this is the continuation of my first fic, this mostly includes big brother percy! x reader, and yes there will be a part 3 aswell, that focuses more on reader x bf! Jason, gosh I was not expecting this to become an actual series LOL! This part is mostly Percy centric! Also, i wasn't expecting my first hc list to get that many notes?? Like 72 notes is a LOT for me especially if it's for something that I've never done before! So thank you!
•Jason's disappearance would drive you INSANE. I'm not even kidding, those 6 months would be the worst you've ever had. Almost as bad as Annabeth, and it's not just because your maybe-boyfriend disappeared. It's because your sleep was PLAGUED with nightmares about this mysterious lady who called herself the earth mother. She kept trying to recruit you to her side. Gaia was trying to make you join her. But you didn't even know that it was Gaia, at that point.
• Since you were linked to the earthen side of Neptune, and Gaia wanted ALL forces of earth to join her against demigods, you were her main target, along with Percy and Jason. You'd be the easiest to manipulate amongst all big three children , since your powers reeked of earth.
•You anxiously told Reyna about these nightmares, but she waved off the suspicion as stress, with you being unnerved about Jason’s whereabouts or something.
•You also got dreams about a teenage boy with black hair, wandering around the streets of San Francisco helplessly, something about this boy felt super tranquil (yes it's Percy lol)
•And don't get me started about the senators' uproar about their praetor’s disappearance. Conspiracies swirled around the whole camp.
•Octavian was NOT helping the matters, the guy was such a drama king. He cooked up this wild story that YOU were the reason Jason disappeared, taking advantage of the point that Jupiter and Neptune were rivals to give himself an upper hand in his argument.
•He also latched on to the point that all of these atrocities were happening because YOU were a bad omen to camp, which unfortunately, convinced the whole senate. The whole camp now hates you more than ever.
•And guess what happened? You weren't even a full centurion anymore. Ppl thought you would lead your cohort to conspire against everyone, so they forced poor Reyna to transfer the centurion-ship to Gwendolyn.
•Octavian also deliberately refused to look for Jason because he was happy to get rid of the son of Jupiter.
•Nico and Reyna were your only support systems at this point. Reyna elected you as the unofficial praetor (not that she told anyone else, of course, this was a secret between you both, she needed another praetor in place of jason, and she badly wanted it to be you, but the senators begged to differ) so you were secretly helping Reyna to help reinforcements to look for Jason.
• Nico would actually be such a big comfort to you. Bringing you coca cola from McDonald’s while you both just sat in silence in pluto's shrine wallowing in sadness lol
•Okay okay I'm yapping so much, so here comes the best part. The most anticipated one. Your brother Percy Jackson's arrival.
•You actually weren't in camp when he dramatically came by, you were in Temple hill, trying to convince a thick headed octavian to burn his god damn bears and issue a prayer to Jupiter about Jason. That jerk was so stubborn. So you were practically yelling at each other.
•That's also EXACTLY when Percy and Hazel get sent to Octavian by Reyna. So while they were approaching you, you were just in shock and stopped mid way from the argument you and Octavian were currently having and stared at Percy. He was the same boy in your dreams.
• This strange boy had worn the same expression as he stared at you. Shock. Unbeknownst to you, Percy had been having dreams about your wispy face as well.
• Hazel told Percy about you after he dramatically charged into camp as a child of Neptune. Percy would actually be SO excited when he finds out that he has a sister in this mysterious camp.
• But TWO children of Neptune? At the same place? Same time? This all brought on such an uproar amongst campers
• Octavian had practically hardwired the whole “Neptune children are unlucky” thing into ppls mind so much that everyone was worried that Percy's arrival meant something bad was happening.
• When Percy met you though, he'd actually find you very closed off and rigid. But he cannot help being soft around you, since you were practically his younger sister.
• You'd deliberately avoided him a little. Because you were SO overwhelmed with everything. How did you dream about your nonexistent brother before you actually knew he existed? You actually had a hard time trusting him with everything going on, so you'd act a little cold around him for the first day. Even Reyna would notice your lack of enthusiasm when you welcomed Percy to your legion.
• But you failed to intimidate Percy. like miserably. You'd shoot him grumpy looks, only to find him smiling back at you. You felt kind of bad now. Since Percy looked like he badly wanted to talk to you.
• so. You planned a secret excursion. You were both in the same cohort, so you had no problem tapping Percy on the shoulder at lunch, and told him to meet you at your dad's shrine at around 12 AM.
• Percy was super confused at your sudden offer but he obliged anyway out of curiosity.
• so he'd be walking around the shrine like a lost puppy, admiring how new his dad's statue looked. Hazel had told him about your efforts to bring glory to Neptune, and how you'd never miss a day to clean his shrine, and percy'd admire that. Like a lot. He knew there's more to you than what people said about you in camp.
• "Good old dad huh?" You'd say as you came inside the shrine, startling Percy so bad that he'd trip on his own shoelace.
• That shit was hilarious as hell lol making you holler with laughter.
• He'd be super embarassed but would totally laugh along with you.
• Okay so the first few minutes would be painfully awkward. I mean, what do you say to your long lost sibling you never knew you had?
• But Percy would interrupt by telling you that he'd had dreams of you. Which shocked you to the core. Because you had them aswell, that piece of information would leave him shocked aswell.
• So after this info dump, the conversation after would flow so naturally?? Like where did all the awkwardness go? You'd both talk about everything, you'd tell Percy about Jason (though you kinda left out the boyfriend bit lolz) and he'd tell you about Annabeth.
• You'd walk Percy around the streets of New Rome, breaking curfew, like you always did, as you told him "well you deserved a proper sisterly tour of the city yesterday, I'm sorry I didn't give you that, I just had a lot on my mind, I DO want to get to know you more, you are my brother, after all".
• All of these words would leave Percy overwhelmed tbh. He'd been so scared that you wouldn't talk to him, and that you may not want have a sibling dynamic with him. But he was wrong. You were still a little awkward, but you were trying. And that made him feel a rush of brotherly affection for you. You were nothing like the scary/grumpy heartless girl you were perceived to be by the other campers.
• the whole excursion-with-your-brother-to-bond with-him thing actually worked. You had no idea what you were doing, but it worked. You got to know stuff about him, even though he barely remembered a thing, and as much as you hated to admit it, you sort of overshared with him. The bullying you faced at camp, how everyone called you names, scoffed at you, how Octavian was being. well. Octavian. Your dad not noticing you, So all in all, you shared basically everything with guy. And no, you still left out the boyfriend detail, he ain't gonna know about that lol
• It actually helped you get those things off of your chest. But at the same time, you had too much fun maintaing the grumpy mean girl persona, and now that you've given him your tragic villian backstory, you no longer had the "mystery" aura around you anymore, and you were sure Percy thought of you as a small marshmallow he needed to protect. You didn't need protecting.
• And you were SO right, Percy got super protective the next day, the change was SO visible, that even Reyna noticed and asked you about it.
• you kept the sibling excursion trip a secret though lol no way were you scrubbing the streets with toothbrushes again. You'd broken enough rules.
• So now, the curfew thing just became an inside joke between you guys lol
• Percy would SO introduce you to blue food. Tell me he wouldn't.
• Okay so after loads of protesting and senate Mayhem, you'd go on the quest to free thanatos, along with Percy, Hazel and Frank, where you also found out that you were a part of the prophecy. You'd discover that you and Percy's powers would work SO well together.
• You both would look like a power duo in all honesty, you'd cause the earth around you to tremble, while Percy made the waves accelerate. Frank and Hazel almost fainted omg
• Octavian was SO sure you were going to fail the quest.
• Jokes on him, his expression when you and Percy rode on Mrs O Leary, carrying the golden eagle together, screaming "Twelfth Legion! Fulminata!" was hilarious. He looked angry, shocked and murderous all at the same time.
• I kid you not, The amount of celebration you and Percy got after you came back was insane. You were both elected as praetor the same day. Yes, I know there can only be 2, but at that point, not even Octavian could deny the fact that you both deserved praetorship. (Sucks that it only lasted a few days before you guys ran off to the argo ii)
• Percy's arrival had helped you as a person, and helped restore glory to your father Neptune and the twelfth legion. All of a sudden, Neptune children, were regarded as lucky charms. You both would definitely go down in the Camp Jupiter history reports as the sibling duo who restored the golden eagle to Rome again, after many many years.
• okay now that the plot centric stuff with Percy is over, lemme just add a few extra stuff.
• you and Percy would have SUCH different auras, it was actually hilarious. You'd be dark and broody, Percy would be calm and serene (well, most of the time) which was GOOD. Bc if you both were mad, then I'll send the world some thoughts and prayers, mostly prayers. Since it would end in an avalanche mess.
• also, i forgot to mention, you broke your imperial gold sword in the quest, that left you shattered. Bc that sword held memories. But in return? You got something SO much better.
• Your good old father, Neptune, had appeared in the praetorship ceremony, (leaving Octavian terrified) and congratulated you and Percy for being "such a pride symbol" for him (Percy got SO mad, like oh. NOW you notice us pops?) but yeah, Neptune, told you that your efforts to restore glory to him was very much noticed ad appreciated, by him.
• Neptune had given you something else as a replacement for your sword. It was a pearl bracelet but when you tapped it twice, It turn into this unique aqua coloured metal, that would transform into any sort of weapon you wanted. But the catch, is that it could only be one weapon at a time. This was eerily similar to Jason's coin-sword and Percy's Riptide.
• Percy had sassed the hell out of Neptune on your behalf though lol I mean, the guy has every right to be angry, His sister was neglected for SO long?
• in a way, percy also felt super guilty bc now tha he got his memories back, he knew Poseidon would visit him a lot, but his Roman side never visited his other child up until this point? He felt like he had a privilege you didn't.
• Sally would totally love you. She'd coddle you as much as she does percy tbh.
Update: part three is just out!

*at gun point* What are some of your jeyna hcs
i have too fucking many but aight let’s go
they first met on one of jason’s quests. hylla and reyna had just escaped from circe’s and the pirates, jason was just abt to fight the sea monster. they both help each other out and become tentative friends
reyna does not trust him as far as she can throw him for a while. it takes jason a long time to prove himself to her
when they get back to cj, first cohort almost immediately tries to get reyna to join them, but the idea of not being able to be friends with jason is what holds her back
the jellybean thing becomes a joke after a quest goes wrong in seattle circa ttc. turns out harpies love jellybeans and they will leave you alone if you sacrifice them
jason learned how to braid hair as a little kid (fully stealing this hc from one of @hecatea’s old fics) and he was in charge of reyna’s hair once it started growing back out
speaking of reyna’s hair, it was cut into a fairly short bob when he first met her, so the first time he sees it down and almost rib length, he does a spit take
jason has several lichtenberg scars on his back and shoulders and reyna has fallen asleep tracing them quite often
their first kiss was during their third quest together circa botl. reyna thought jason was going to die and grabbed him and kissed him before watching him walk into what they both thought would be a trap. he survived (obvi) and they didn’t speak about the kiss until his birthday nearly a month later
they never outright admitted their feelings for each other but it was one of those things everyone knows about
during the battle of mount othrys, reyna takes a knife to the stomach for jason, and he goes ballistic afterwards. the sudden surge of anger and devotion is how he got officially recognized as juno’s champion
he makes her promise that she won’t die on him. she’s too scared to make him promise the same to her
they start planning their trip to dalmatia as a joke during one of their smaller quests, but eventually they both become genuinely interested in doing it
reyna has/had an old polaroid camera that she used to take photos of anything and everything. her collection of photos of jason is the biggest
her favourite photo of jason is him staring out at the pacific ocean with a blue superman hat on and this pensive look on his face. it would have done numbers on tumblr
jason kept/keeps every single sticky note reyna has ever written for him. he likes to look at her writing when he isn’t feeling well
they both get elected to praetorship shortly after the battle of mount othrys. reyna’s incredibly happy about it. jason is not.
the night jason goes missing, him and reyna had just had a massive argument about his hatred of being praetor
reyna refuses to burn jason’s burial shroud for months until shortly before percy arrives at cj. it would mean admitting defeat and she won’t do that
she never tells jason what venus told her at charleston. even if/when they get together, she never tells him
now this is fully hc, but i like to think that instead of jason dying, he just fully detaches himself from the demigod world and after a few years, him and reyna meet again at a coffee shop or something in san francisco and they slowly repair their broken friendship

guys okay i haven't seen this week's pjo episode yet (my brothers fault again 🙄) so idk about any possible nico/bianca cameos but consider:
yes that would be a fun cameo but you know what would be so cool?
the titan's curse, when percy/thalia/the hunters are on their quest, they travel through san francisco? you know what else is in san francisco? camp jupiter.
what if we get a brief glimpse of what looks like kids/teens in purple shirts fighting a monster before the mist covers it up again???
think of how iconic that would be??? cuz then if (when, crossing my fingers🤞) we get a hoo adaptation it would seem less random when the roman demigods are revealed.

Checking the Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter OC's I made when I was 14/15 and I was on something because I created a family that was so complicated.
Spanish woman named Isabel has an affair with Hercules in his Roman form in the mid-late fifties. She has a Demigod daughter named Marta. Marta becomes a prominent figure at Camp Jupiter in her time there, becoming even Praetor for a while. She goes to college there and moves back to Spain in her early twenties. She becomes a teacher and marries a Romani guy (the Romani part was so important to me back then because I'm Spanish and part Romani so yeah) named Manu. They have two kids, Pedro and Lola. Being a Legacy and all, Pedro chooses to go to Camp Jupiter as well, where he becomes another important guy and all since he got good references from his Praetor mom. Lola chooses not to go; her mom just trains her a bit so she can take care of herself and she tries to live a normal life and chill, stays in Spain, goes to college and all and visits her brother every summer. When Pedro retires he starts working and on his twenties he lives in San Francisco and tries to chill too. Then one spring he meets Proserpina aka the Roman form of Persephone and she ends up liking him so they have an affair, which results in the birth of their daughter, Adriana, a few months later (I firmly believe Persephone should have Demigod children in canon btw). Meanwhile in summer Hades finds out about the affair and he's pissed off so he shows up at San Francisco to see the guy and then he sees Lola and he's like damn okay. He likes her and he ends up having an affair with her —Proserpina/Persephone can't be even mad because she hooked up with the brother lmao— IN HIS GREEK FORM, which results in the birth of their daughter, Elena. Therefore there are now two other demigods in the family, one is Roman and one is Greek. Elena goes to Camp Half-Blood, Adriana goes to Camp Jupiter. Elena doesn't know she herself is a Legacy or that her grandma and Adriana are demigods too, and Adriana knows Elena is a Legacy but not about the fact that she's a demigod (she just thinks her auntie simply wants her to live a normal life and doesn't tell her) because everyone is obssessed with making sure neither of them figure that out for the whole Roman and Greek rivalry because it could cause a mess. So every time there's a family reunion everyone is like "DO NOT TELL YOUR COUSIN ABOUT THE GODS SHE DOESN'T KNOW A THING NOT A WORD" and the girls are like "OKAY DAMN"
Eventually they find out when they're older and it's not the whole Roman and Greek thing that makes them feel weird but that aside being cousins they are also technically step-sisters.
Anyway that was a mess lmao

Putting work into an AI program without permission is illegal. You do not have my permission. Do not do it.
"I just want to do something special for him. It's his first birthday away from home, and I can tell it's bothering him."
I hummed, twirling my dagger and staring at the ceiling while kicked back on my couch. Such was the life of a demigod, that we fiddled with weapons like fidget toys.
"And there's no way you guys can go back?" I finally asked. Annabeth, my little sister in every way but blood, shook her head.
"We've got orientation for the next week and a half, including his birthday. It's the only reason we're here so early in the first place. We can't miss it."
I frowned. Annabeth and her boyfriend, Percy Jackson, had just started college at New Rome University. They'd gotten to the Bay Area yesterday, which I'd been incredibly excited about. Annabeth and I had been attached at the hip since I was eleven and she was seven, when we'd met as runaway demigods. Out of our little group, Annabeth and I had stayed the closest. After the Titan War, I'd decided to go USF, the muggle university in San Francisco. Leaving her had been the hardest part.
Now, luckily for me, she and Percy had moved out here too. Annabeth had finished unpacking and setting up her dorm room within a few hours of arrival, and so had some free time this morning to spend hanging out with me. Percy had not, so he was otherwise occupied on their last day before school activities started.
"Well, I'm happy to help with whatever you want to do, Annabeth," I said. She sighed, chewing at her lip and staring out the window of my apartment as she thought. "Maybe you could show him around the Bay Area? He probably hasn't spent much time out here, has he?"
"I really haven't either," she said. "I've barely been back since I was a kid."
"True..."
"Maybe we could go on a tour of New Rome? Percy told me he wanted to show me around, but I don't want to make him be the tour guide for his birthday."
"Yeah."
The two of us fell silent for a moment, thinking things through. Then, like a blast of lightning from Thalia, an idea hit me.
"What if you baked him some cookies or something? He's probably already missing his mom's baking."
Annabeth shot up straight in her seat, staring at me with wide eyes.
"That is the perfect idea. Can I make them here?"
"Of course! I'm not going to make you use the shared freshman kitchens."
Annabeth grinned, then stood and headed to the kitchen table. I watched her go with interest as she pulled out a notebook and pen and started scribbling away.
"Uh... Annabeth?"
"Making a plan. Don't worry about it."
I grinned to myself. My little sister was nothing if not predictable.
A few days later, Annabeth managed to sneak away from Percy and orientation to come back to my place for a baking party. Percy's birthday was tomorrow, so we only had tonight to get everything ready.
"I came up with the perfect plan," she said in lieu of greeting as she pushed past me and into the apartment. I smiled after her, joining her in the kitchen as she plopped down a massive bag of baking supplies. "I got the recipe, I timed everything out, I got a ton of blue food coloring. By the end of the day, the perfect birthday surprise will be completed."
"I'd never doubt a plan from Athena," I said, giving her a smile. "Just tell me what to do, and I'm on it."
"Right. Well, first we need to preheat the oven."
That was about the only part of the plan that ended up going off without a hitch. Annabeth didn't bake often, and she'd happened to choose a pretty difficult cookie recipe. I did my best to help, but I didn't have a lot of experience in the area either, so things went quickly off the rails. Just under two hours later, the two of us stood in the kitchen covered in flower, eggs, and bits of way too watery dough, staring at the absolute disaster of a mess we'd created on the counter.
"This was not part of the plan," she said. I couldn't help it—I burst out laughing.
"I don't know, I think sugar cookies are supposed to be so wet we can't pick them up," I joked. I turned to see Annabeth with a very serious frown on her face.
"I haven't had a plan fail this miserably in... a long time."
"Well, I think it's probably time for plan B. That can be your redemption."
Annabeth's frown just deepened, so I did what any good sibling would do and took it upon myself to cheer her up. By throwing a wad of dough in her face, of course.
Her mouth dropped open in shock as sugary, goopy dough dripped off her chin. Then she whirled on me with a fierce look and fire in her eyes that I recognized from the few times she'd really been on the warpath for capture the flag.
"That was a mistake."
She picked up the nearest glob of dough and chucked it at me as I tried to dodge. It hit me in the back with a thunk, and I cackled before turning around to reengage with a clump of flour.
The baking battle raged for a few fierce minutes, before Annabeth and I slipped in some dough on the floor while wrestling to smear more of the stuff on each others' heads. We collapsed in a heap, both of us laughing like crazy people.
"That was so worth everything that came before it," I declared, slumping against the nearest kitchen cabinet. Annabeth immediately followed suit, leaving us shoulder to shoulder in the middle of the mess.
"What about the cleanup that comes after?"
"Also worth it, especially since I have you here to help me."
Annabeth snorted, but didn't say anything. After a minute of comfortable silence, she sighed.
"What am I gonna do for Percy's birthday tomorrow?"
"Well, were the cookies the only plan?"
"No... He took me to one of his favorite spots in the city a few days ago, so I planned a picnic for the two of us there. The cookies were going to be the final surprise."
"Well, there you go then. The rest of the plan remains intact. If you wanted to, you could even make him a little coupon or something that promises 'one day of baking cookies' or something like that, and the two of you can pick an easier but still delicious recipe to try."
Annabeth looked at me with a skeptical eyebrow raised.
"Would you let us use your kitchen again?"
I shrugged. "Sure. Maybe Percy's better at baking than us. And even if he's not, having someone who can control water to help us with cleanup will at least make a round two of this easier."
Annabeth smiled and huffed a laugh, leaning against me.
"Thanks. For this, and for everything. I'm really glad you're here in San Francisco with us."
I smiled too, reaching out to put one arm around Annabeth. We'd known each other more than a decade, and we'd both changed so much. But our relationship had stayed the same.
"Any time, Annabeth. You know I'm always here for you." The two of us sat there for a minute, taking a breather and appreciating each other's company, and then I sighed. "Alright, time to get the cleaning stuff out. This is going to take hours."
"You know, I actually have a lot of coursework I need to get started on-"
"Nice try, but it's orientation. And even if you were in the middle of finals, you wouldn't be getting out of this."
"Fine. But next time, let's plan to avoid the massive kitchen food fight."
I grinned. "Sure. We can plan on that."

Welcome to Camp Jupiter
Fandom(s): Heroes of Olympus
Summary: "A safe space" is what Nico di Angelo, Hazel's new brother, had promised her. That's where their father, Pluto, wanted them to go. Now, they just needed to meet Camp Jupiter's leaders. Surely Nico and Hazel, who were always so well-liked, would have no trouble with that, would they?
Rating: G (but beware a bit of swearing)
Words: 3786
AO3 link
Hazel threw up.
Literally.
It was awful, she decided, shadow-travelling.
Her body felt as if it had been compressed, expanded, heated in a microwave oven —magnificent invention, by the way—, and then squashed thin with a rolling pin.
In other words, it reminded her too much of Gaea drowning her and her mother in mud in Alaska.
Hazel felt a couple of hands hold her hair back carefully.
“I’m sorry,” said Nico. “I didn’t know it would be so bad for you. Perhaps it’s because your body’s still being pulled by the shadow realm.”
He had a way of making everything sound very dramatic, Hazel had learned in the past week.
She wiped her mouth with a tissue her brother offered.
“It wasn’t that,” she reassured him. “Just a bad memory.”
But she didn’t go into details. The last time she had, she’d literally flung herself back in time into the real memory.
Neither she nor Nico could figure out what that was either. As far as Nico was concerned, she could just avoid thinking about her past. Easy for him to say, he didn’t remember much of  his past. To Hazel, the modern world was a constant reminder of how much things had changed, and as it happened with comparisons, it made her vividly recall her own version of things, which then in turn sent her back into… Well, Nico hadn’t called it ‘the memory realm’, but he might as well have.
Luckily for her, her brother didn’t inquire too much about it. He nodded his head with a worried frown and offered her a hand to get up from where she’d knelt to vomit.
When she stood straight, Hazel had to study her surroundings well. She had no idea where they were. There was a highway ten yards from them, where cars flew by —vehicles went way too fast these days, Hazel had grown mildly afraid of cars—. The landscape was dotted with hills, and the sun was shining rather strongly for September. The highway went into one of the hills, a tunnel per each direction of traffic.
She studied her brother properly. He seemed exhausted. She asked: “How far away from New York are we, exactly?”
Nico shrugged. “Around four thousand kilometres? Not sure, but that doesn’t really matter. Welcome to San Francisco.”
“It doesn’t look very touristy,” Hazel noted.
Her brother snorted. “Not here, no. You see, I told you there was a safe space for demigods. That cannot be in the middle of the city, it would push the limits of the Mist too far.” He pointed at a door between the two lanes of the highway as it went into the hill. “That there is the access to safety.”
Hazel didn’t want to seem ungrateful, but that looked like a maintenance door. And to make matters worse, there were two workers having a smoke right by the entrance.
Nico caught her dismissive face.
“Ye of little faith,” he said with a smile. “Look properly, don’t let the Mist fool you.”
Hazel pressed her eyes shut for a couple of seconds and focused her gaze back on the maintenance door.
There was a rumble of energy coming off it in low waves. Not from the traffic, but from the entrance itself. And she noticed the two workers weren’t workers at all, unless these days the uniform included Roman armour.
“Come on!” Nico took her hand and put it in the hook of his elbow. “Now we have to cross the road.”
Hazel didn’t want to get judgy, but crossing roads was not her favourite pastime with her newly found brother. He’d never wait for the street lights to turn green, he’d run in front of moving vehicles despite not having enough time to cross, he’d yell at drivers when they —expectably— were affronted about nearly running over a 12-year-old child… It was a stressful activity. She didn’t want to try it on a highway.
But another trait that characterised her brother was determination. Once he’d set his mind, nothing and nobody could change it.
Just as she was about to suggest they wait for the car flow to lessen, her brother jumped over the guardrail into the asphalt.
Swearing, she followed suit.
Be it luck, agility, or his faith in Saint Expeditus moving the strings of destiny, Nico had never been hit by any of the vehicles he’d tempted death with. This occasion was no different. He sprinted, stopped, dodged, and jumped over the guardrail on the other side unharmed.
Hazel wasn’t entirely sure who she should pray to, but she figured there was no time anyway.
She didn’t dare follow her brother’s fearless approach to crossing streets irresponsibly, so she decided to wait a few seconds.
“Oh, come on!” Nico yelled from the other side. “Hurry up, we’ll be attracting every single monster on the West Coast!”
“I’ll die again!” She shouted back. “I don’t know how you do it but—!”
It was madness.
But the little white boy’s smug face pushed her nerves.
If he could do it, so could she.
Hazel waited until the following car passed and started her crossing.
This side of the highway had three lanes. The first she went through well enough. The second won her a loud honk that made her jump into the third lane. Where a motorbike swerved off to avoid her, hitting the guardrail where the driver catapulted twenty feet forward.
“Merda, cos’hai fatto?”
Nico’s eyes were wide open, but far from being concerned for her, he seemed to be trying not to laugh.
He grabbed her hand and helped her clumsily jump the stupid rail into the lawn between the highway.
“We need to hurry up,” he pulled from her arm until she was running beside him, with the direction of the maintenance door. “That man’s calling the police, we’ll get in trouble.”
“This is not my fault!” She cried. “You’re the one who—”
But it was pointless, Nico looked rather mirthful, and regardless of whether he took the blame or not, if the cops came, they’d be a lot more likely to find her guilty than him.
They rushed all the way to the two Roman… soldiers?
Hazel tilted her head when they were in front of them.
They were teenagers. A girl and a boy, late teens by the look of it.
“That was one hell of a show,” said the boy. He was drumming his hand on the spear he held.
“Who are you?” Demanded the girl.
“We’re children of Pluto,” Nico announced. All traces of cheerfulness gone, his face had become a mask of solemnity. “Our father sent us to this place.”
The teenagers exchanged a troubled look. Apparently, just like Nico had predicted the day before, these people wouldn’t take to them too joyfully.
“You better come with us, then,” said the boy.
“But, Dakota—”
“They weren’t sent by Lupa, Gwen,” the boy, Dakota, interrupted. His fingers had stopped drumming on the spear, but they were clenched around the weapon. “Nobody finds this place without the Wolf’s guidance, it must mean something.”
Gwen hesitated a moment more. She glanced behind them, where Hazel imagined the biker was getting up, and perhaps taking too much of an interest in the gang of teens talking in the middle of a highway.
“All right,” she said. “But give us your weapons first.”
Dakota nodded. “That’s a good idea.”
Nico gave them his black sword, which made for an awkward moment in which Dakota and Gwen both refused to grab it.
“It’s safe,” Nico assured them. “Just don’t touch the blade and you’ll be fine.”
Dakota took a deep breath and took the weapon at arm’s length. When nothing happened, he held it more confidently.
“Right, now,” said Gwen. “Let’s go before the bloke calls the police on us.”
“Are we supposed to leave our post?” Asked Dakota.
Gwen shrugged. “They’ll understand. It’s a special situation, besides, we’re almost done with our shift. Bobby and Anne are bound to be here soon.”
They were shepherded into the door; Gwen first, then Hazel and Nico, then Dakota. The tunnel wasn’t a big deal, it did look like a maintenance cavern carved into the mountain. It wasn’t too long, and relatively well illuminated. On the other side, instead of a door, an arch let sunlight through.
Hazel gasped as she walked out into the open.
It was impossible.
Then again, nothing was really impossible, was it? She’d walked off the Underworld by going upstairs into Central Park…
But this? Where did the highway go? How did this valley go unnoticed by mortals? The place was enormous.
“Welcome to Camp Jupiter,” said Gwen, waving an arm invitingly in front of her. “The town you can see over there is New Rome, a place for demigods who’ve already been trained.”
Hazel looked at her brother and caught him raising a disbelieving eyebrow. As if he couldn’t believe a town of demigods could exist.
That made her wary. Nico had known about everything they’ve encountered so far —and if he hadn’t, he hadn’t been surprised at all—, the uneasiness radiating from him made her feel wrong-footed.
“Demigod adults?” Nico wondered.
Dakota nodded. “From university onwards. You serve ten years in Camp Jupiter, and then you get to start a life of your choice.”
Nico was still not quite convinced, but his face had become agreeable again, so Hazel trod forward side by side with him.
“Where are you taking us?” Nico asked after around ten minutes.
“To see our leaders,” said Gwen swiftly. “Any new recruits are met by our praetors.”
“Jason and Reyna,” Dakota apported. “They’re good people. A bit stressed these days, of course, but they’ll give you a chance.”
Being given ‘a chance’ didn’t sound particularly welcoming to Hazel, but she bit her comment back.
“What do you mean these days?” She wondered.
Gwen and Dakota exchanged a glance.
“There was a…” Gwen struggled to find the appropriate word. “A conflict, you could say.”
“A war,” Nico supplied. “The titans challenged the gods’ powers. It didn’t go well for them, the gods are still here… obviously.”
Gwen’s expression closed off. “How did you know that?”
“I told you,” Nico reminded her. “My father sent us here. It’s not the first time I follow his orders or his advice. I convinced him to fight with his siblings last month.”
It was Dakota and Gwen’s turn to look mistrustful.
Hazel couldn’t really blame them. It was hard to imagine this tiny boy convincing a god to do anything. But after just a week with him, she didn’t doubt him anymore. If that’s what Nico said, then that’s what Hazel believed.
Nico had left to talk to Pluto a few days before. It hadn’t been longer than a couple of hours, but he’d come back with a location for a safe place, and the order from their father to join ranks with ‘those demigods in California’.
If Pluto felt comfortable enough to call Nico for a private audience and advice, why wouldn’t she believe Nico had turned that around at some point to coerce the god into action against titans.
Hazel wondered if that had anything to do with Gaea. The titans trying to challenge the status quo… it was auspicious at the very least.
Regardless, she felt better knowing Nico could pull in a favour or two from their father when needed. If not protected, it made her feel less abandoned. A bit, anyway.
“I’ll explain everything to your leaders,” Nico offered with a tight smile. “Surely if they believe me, that’ll be enough for you.”
The pair of teenagers turned sheepish. She guessed they thought themselves very friendly people, but they weren’t coming across as the most tolerant.
“Of course,” said Gwen. “I didn’t mean— It doesn’t matter. The praetor house is just over there.”
“The principia,” Dakota corrected. “Reyna doesn’t like it being called praetor house.”
Gwen shrugged.
They’d arrived at a magnificent building. To Hazel it looked a bit like photos of banks in the richer states. Those that had appeared in the newspapers every time the economy was going through the mud.
They were led in by their two tour guides, who took them through spectacular halls into a room with a wooden bench in front of a door. It looked a bit like a waiting room.
“Give me a minute,” said Gwen.
Dakota didn’t sit down, so neither did Hazel or Nico.
Luckily for them, Gwen took even less than a minute. She was leading them through the door and into a room that made Hazel feel small.
It had reddish marble panels on the walls, and a long wooden table.
A jar of jelly beans stood in the middle of the table, and a couple of high-back chairs remained empty on the side opposite from the door.
On their side of the room, a couple of teenagers, a bit younger than Dakota and Gwen, were discussing the contents of some official looking papers.
Hazel noted Nico was studying the room with interest, but she felt more worried about the two teenagers.
She got the impression that if she had to fight either, she’d take her chance with the boy. Then she told herself that despite the girl’s scowl, they weren’t here to fight but to be introduced to these people.
A safe space. That’s where she was.
The girl’s dark eyes studied them intently. She had dark hair in a braid that was coming loose, and she looked pale, as if she was missing some sunlight.
The boy had purple bags under his blue eyes. He gave Hazel and her brother a onceover before speaking.
“Welcome to Camp Jupiter,” the boy said. “The Twelfth Legion Fulminata. I’m Jason Grace and this is Reyna, we’re your praetors.”
Hazel glanced at Nico and found him staring back at her.
“I’m Hazel Levesque,” she said. She pointed at her brother with her hand. “And this is Nico di Angelo. My brother.”
She saw them look unconvinced for a fraction of a second, and assumed it was hard to believe the white boy next to her could, in any way, be related. But then they caught on the fact that gods are gods, and their children are not necessarily from the same mother.
Hazel wondered whether the gods themselves could change their appearance at will. She knew in old myths they could turn into animals, but did that include changing their own features?
“Gwendolyn told us you found your way here unconventionally,” Reyna said, and she seemed to think finding the maintenance entrance between highway lanes was the weirdest thing to ever happen.
“Our father sent us,” Nico told her quickly. His voice was level, and to Hazel, he sounded slightly older too, more mature, as if he was trying to make an impression. “The Lord of the Dead.”
Jesus. Nico just couldn’t keep that to himself for a bit, could he? Hazel guessed it was better to leave that out in the open from the beginning.
Praetor Ramírez-Arellano’s eyes widened. “You’re children of Pluto? And he sent you?”
Jason Grace was surprised too, but he looked more inclined to accept the possibility. He put a hand on his comrade’s arm to either calm her down, or to stop her from being openly dismissive of the Lord of the Dead’s kids.
“It’s not common to have Big Three children,” Jason told them kindly. “There’s not many of us.”
Nico perked up at that. “You’re a child of the Big Three?”
Jason nodded.
“It would be Jupiter, right?” Nico asked. Was he guessing, or had their father told him there was a son of Jupiter leading the safe space he’d sent them to? “A leader such as you. You have your father’s eyes. You said your surname was Grace, didn’t you?”
Good Lord, did Nico know some of Jason’s relatives? Obviously, he’d met Jupiter, or he was bullshitting about Jason having his father’s eyes —which, knowing Nico, it could also be—. But he was interested in Jason’s surname. God, she hated it when her brother didn’t tell her things beforehand, she felt like a fool, ten steps behind while he moved the strings like a puppeteer.
To her relief, Jason seemed taken aback too. His expression, that had remained open despite revealing their godly parentage, had closed off.
“When did you meet Jupiter?” Reyna demanded.
“Last month,” Nico replied. He glimpsed Reyna’s left side, but turned his attention to the praetors quickly enough. “I convinced my father to fight in the gods’ war against the titans. Afterwards, he saw it fit that I… met the family.”
Her brother looked away from Jason and Reyna again, and this time, Hazel could see he was looking at a couple of dogs beside Reyna. They startled her, she had thought they were decoration. They were metal, but seemed to be alive. And they were staring at Nico as if expecting something, but they appeared to be calm, so she tried to ignore them.
It was harder to ignore their presumed owner. Reyna had turned towards her and her eyes were burning into Hazel’s.
“But not you, Hazel Levesque?” She inquired.
It took her a second to understand what she meant, until she recalled they were talking about meeting the gods before Hazel had gotten distracted with the dogs.
She shook her head, and added: “I only met Nico a week or so ago.”
“And Pluto brought you here,” Jason spoke up. “He told you how to find us.”
“He wishes for Hazel to be trained here,” Nico told them. “He’s given me other tasks to do elsewhere, but he hopes you’ll accept me as his ambassador. I would only stay here every so often.”
That made Hazel hesitate. Every so often? Was he going to dump her here and just leave? Was he out of his goddamn mind?
She took a step towards her brother and muttered. “When were you planning on telling me you weren’t staying?”
“It’s okay,” Nico murmured back. “I’ll be here whenever you need me, but our father wants me to handle other errands for him.”
“That wasn’t the plan,” she insisted. “You don’t know these people…”
“Hazel,” he interrupted. “Father wouldn’t put you in danger, trust me. He likes his daughters better than his sons. He wants you to be okay.”
Hazel wasn’t too sure about it. Pluto had let her die but had kept Nico safe for decades. But she decided she would resolve the family conflict later when they weren’t under scruple by the leaders of the place.
Reyna cleared her throat. “What exactly would Pluto need from an ambassador?”
“He didn’t say anything specific,” Nico shrugged nonchalantly. “Information, I gather. We learn a lot from the dead, but you can also learn a lot from the living. These past years have been a difficult time for everyone, my father felt… disconnected from the rest of the gods. He only wishes to be kept up-to-date with any threats he might have to face in the future.”
Pluto only wished to, but Hazel was sure it was the closest thing to an order Nico could give without being disrespectful.
She couldn’t care less what power grab Nico had attempted. She was still fuming about him not telling her he was planning on going away.
She heard her name being mentioned but she didn’t catch what Jason had said. Whatever it was, Nico agreed to it.
“But I—” Hazel began. She would speak for herself, she didn’t need a 12-year-old to accept invitations on her account, especially if he’d just buzz off later to who-knows-where.
“It’s okay,” Nico put a hand on her shoulder. “We’ll talk later. You can trust these people.”
“But can we trust you?” Reyna had tired of waited for them to stop talking it seemed. She’d crossed her arms and was looking at them with a skeptic expression.
“Have we shown any evidence of the contrary?” Nico asked. To Hazel, it sounded defensive. “Other than the —what did you call it?— ‘unconventional arrival’.”
Jason seemed to realise shit was about to hit the fan, because he stepped in.
“None,” he told Nico in a reassuring voice. “We’re interested in your proposal.” Turning to Hazel he said: “You’ll be wanting to get better acquainted with the place, since you’ll be staying.”
He didn’t wait for her to reply. He took a step between her and Nico, went over to the door, and spoke to whoever was on the other side.
He reentered the room and leaned back against the table, in the exact same position he’d been in before.
Gwen appeared after a few seconds. Earphones on her neck, their wire connected to something she was putting into her pocket.
“Gwendolyn,” Jason grinned. A real smile, it made him look like a kid from a toothbrush commercial. “Would you be kind and give Hazel a tour of Camp Jupiter? Get her something from the bakery, too.” He turned towards Hazel. “You’ll love those pastries, they’re amazing.”
Hazel wasn’t too sure. She glanced at her brother again.
Nico gave her a confident nod, like, ‘I’ll handle them.’
She raised an eyebrow. Nico hated people, leaving him alone would be a gamble on their behalf. But she wasn’t too sure there was much of a choice. The praetors wanted to talk to her brother. She imagined it was better to allow them some privacy rather than be escorted out by security on her first day.
Nico gave her a harder look. Hurry up.
She rolled her eyes.
“See you later,” she told the praetors, ignoring her brother as she left and followed Gwen out of the building, where Dakota joined them for the tour.
“You know Praetor Grace well, don’t you?” Hazel asked. She wasn’t sure it was appropriate but there’d been such a familiarity between them, it made her curious.
Gwen smiled. “Yeah, he stayed with my family for a while when he was younger. We know nothing of his mortal family, he was very little when he arrived.”
Except that Nico had been surprised by Jason’s name, not just his godly father.
She kept that to herself. She was annoyed at her brother, but she wasn’t about to betray his secrets.
Instead, she smiled and let Gwen keep talking.
Hazel went off with her and Dakota, they were much friendlier now that they seemed to have got over their shock about Pluto having demigod children.
When she met Nico again, she’d sit him down to talk. She wouldn’t allow him to leave yet, not until he told her everything he knew.

If you're craving some butch mlm story, may I recommend the following books:
Gentle Warriors by Geoff Mains. A story about a group of gay leather men in AIDS-stricken San Francisco and their plan to assassinate the president. (Warning that it has a sad ending, but gods it's still beautiful)
Sorcerer of the Wildeeps by Kai Ashante Wilson. Since leaving his homeland, the earthbound demigod Demane has been labeled a sorcerer. With his ancestors' artifacts in hand, the Sorcerer follows the Captain, a beautiful man with song for a voice and hair that drinks the sunlight. The two of them are the descendants of the gods who abandoned the Earth for Heaven, and they will need all the gifts those divine ancestors left to them to keep their caravan brothers alive. (This is the first in a series, and I still haven't read the second one, to my great chagrin)
The House on the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. Domestic fantasy about a man who gets sent to audit a foster home for magical children. It's a very gentle story, and I really loved the fact that both the main characters are in their 30s. I'm not personally a huge fan of Klune's prose, but I'd still recommend it!

Annabeth's dad loves Percy as soon he knew that Percy had come the was to San Francisco ( which her dad knew was unsafe and highly dangerous for demigods) just to save his daughter. But Athena always had her doubts and she didn't think Percy even cared about annabeth's feelings until she saw him looking at her daughter before telling Zeus he'd rather have the gods be better parents than be immortal, but even then she had her doubts. After the events of blood of Olympus and she finds out that Percy had done everything in his power to protect Annabeth in Tartarus and that her daughter was the one who had asked to hold back she knew Percy was the one for Annabeth (but she would never admit that to anyone). And eventually at Percabeth's wedding Athena and Prof. Chase would be sitting next to each other and he'd whisper in her ear saying " I told you he's a good kid Athena, he's her soulmate." And Athena would smile and wipe away a tear because she was so happy to see one of her favorite children to be happily married , and whisper back "I know Fredrick, he's the only person I can see her with. He deserves our daughter."

Why Didn't Jason Remember Reyna?
Okay so I'm a diehard Jeyna shipper and Jason stan and Reyna stan respectively.
And it always made me so sad that Jason didn't remember Reyna, while Percy remembered Annabeth.
But the thing is? Jason did remember her. Maybe not in the way that Percy knew Annabeth, but he knew there was someone he should miss. Someone he cared about.
Think of it this way. Percy didn't necessarily remember Annabeth because of his love for her, he could have remembered her because Hera let him.
We see Chiron's conversation with Jason, we see Jason's reaction at the arrival at CHB, he knows that's enemy territory. Jason was at Camp Jupiter for years, raised in a strict Roman society. He would have been educated on the Greeks and taught that they were enemies.
But Percy wasn't. In The Titan's Curse, he's like "What's so bad about San Francisco?" (Yes, I know that was also partially about Mount Othrys but shh) The Greek demigods were hardly ever told about other pantheons. Percy wouldn't have felt any sense of hatred towards the Romans, he would have just thought "Oh, fellow demigods, cool." (Like when he refrained from killing or hurting the demigods on Kronos' side too badly in The Last Olympian.)
If Hera had let Jason remember Reyna, he most likely would have pieced things together much more quickly. He would've thought "I need to get out of here and find Reyna." Jason is naturally a pacifist and he wouldn't have wanted anyone to get hurt, so it's just better to run. He finishes the quest (because he's noble like that) and leaves.
So this then begs the question- what would have happened if Jason somehow made his way back to Camp Jupiter? Spark Notes Version: he would head back, meet the Hunters along the way, and see Reyna when he gets back. Then we have maybe four months-ish (???) until Percy comes. This gives Jason enough time to become settled in again and finally start dating Reyna.
Then Percy comes along. But Jason hasn't told Reyna everything that happened while he was away. Jason automatically realizes that "Oh no, this is Percy Jackson, from the enemy camp we're not supposed to interact with."
I think Reyna would want to train him as a Roman demigod and try to brainwash him (for lack of a better word) and Jason's like "No, we need to send him back and get rid of him, now." This also raises an interesting point with Nico, but we'll talk about that later.
Reyna agrees to send him back, but she puts him on the quest first.
When the CHB demigods come in, Jason comes to the grudging realization that he does need to work with them and this is inevitable. He's part of the Seven. So he goes on the quest and ends up making some pretty great friendships. (I have some headcanons about this, feel free to ask.)
He then comes back and everyone works on bridging the gap between the two camps with an exchange program and he's still working on recognition for the minor gods.
Instead of going to the all-boys school, he enrolls in some community college classes in New Rome. He's in a healthy relationship with Reyna, he started seeing a therapist, he's going pretty good.
Then The Burning Maze rolls around. He helps Lester. He doesn't make it out alive.
Reyna is heartbroken. But she goes on to join the Hunters of Artemis because as much as she loves camp, she wants to see what's outside.
And everyone, I hope you enjoyed my dissertation.

chapter two
< previous: chapter one
Tumblr media
Honestly, Y/N just wanted a peaceful day with Harris. Yes, it was a bit awkward to sit along with him and watch the movies after their kiss but she was new to all of this. She didn't know how to react, what to say or how to even handle herself.
All she knew is that the action made her feel...mushy. Although a very cringy word, it was perfect to describe how she was feeling. Currently, she had her head resting on his chest as he stroked her arm. It was slowly becoming comfortable.
But of course, she didn't have much luck on having a peaceful day with someone she liked. The doorbell rang once.
She looked up frowning at the door. No one was supposed to come at this hour or day. The ringing of the bells started to be hastier, almost like someone was in trouble.
Both of the demigods sighed in unison and looked at each other. Of course.
"I'm getting our stuff," Harris said, "Go and open the door."
Y/N got up heading towards the door, "You'll find my emergency backpack on the right side of the cupboard, and do not-"
"-look at your underwear drawer," Harris chuckled, "I know."
Y/N blushed and muttered, "shut up", as she looked through the peephole. She felt beforehand that something like this was coming. She was getting some dreams, but she ignored all of those as 'nightmares'.
These two individuals were nothing but people who were the cause of her heartache and trust issues at the moment. So ignoring them as 'nightmares' were not exactly unbelievable to her. She was mentally preparing herself to meet with them though.
This would be uncomfortable but she had to do what needed to be done. Opening the door she stared at the two familiar faces. "What now?" she asked, annoyance dripping on her tone.
"We need to leave now," Annabeth informed, "it's an emergency. The half-blood camp is in trouble."
"Okay," she sighed, rolling her eyes, "Let me lock my apartment first."
"Oh yeah," Percy cleared his throat, "Just tell me whatever you need me to grab-"
"Don't worry," a voice came from behind her along with some footsteps, "I got that covered bro."
Oh, their faces.
No doubt about it, Y/N was enjoying the bit of envy that was present in her friends' eyes. But it was not as satisfying when danger was literally lurking over their heads.
Annabeth seemed to recover from the situation real quick. Although her eyes immediately went towards observing Percy who was visibly blank about the whole situation. Y/N frowned watching both of them. Whatever they had going on between themselves should not affect her at all, but it was.
She was really ready to face all of this head-on but seemed like it was a lot harder to control her feelings. Well, fuck the feels. At least she can still control what action she wanted to take.
"Are you all done with your greetings or do you want to have a tea party now?" Y/N asked. Taking her bag from him, she grabbed Harris' arm and walked out of her apartment, locking the door behind her.
"What do you think?" Harris whispered to her ear, sliding an arm over her shoulder as they started walking towards the lift.
"Huh?" Y/N was too angry to process anything about her friends. She was just focused on the task she had at hand.
"I'm talking about their reaction," Harris said, "I don't think they look too thrilled about us."
"Since when do we need validation from others to spend time together?" she asked.
"No..." Harris mumbled looking back at the two people who seemed to be silently following them, "it's just that I thought you'd be okay with them by now."
Y/N was silent. She thought that too.

Nothing caps off the perfect morning like a long taxi ride with two angry girls.
Percy tried to talk to Annabeth, but she was acting like Y/N just punched her grandmother. All he managed to get out of her was that she’d had a monster-infested spring in San Francisco; she’d come back to camp twice since Christmas but wouldn’t tell why, and she’d learned nothing about the whereabouts of Nico di Angelo.
“Any word on Luke?” Percy asked.
She shook her head. Everyone knew this was a touchy subject for her. Annabeth had always admired Luke, the former head counselor for Hermes who had betrayed and joined the evil Titan Lord Kronos. She admitted it, so pretty much everyone in the taxi knew she still liked him.
Okay, he was not as curious about Annabeth and Luke. He did not really care what was going on between them. But it was a topic that would pique someone's interest. Someone he has been thinking of talking to but her behavior towards him stops him from doing so.
“Mount Tam is still overrun with monsters,” Annabeth said. “I didn’t dare go close, but I don’t think Luke is up there. I think I would know if he was.”
It worked. He saw Y/N was once again staring outside the window but ears open for any new information. “What about Grover?” she asked.
“He’s at camp,” Annabeth said. “We’ll see him today.”
“Did he have any luck? I mean, with the search for Pan?” Percy asked, eyes frequently moving back and forth between Annabeth and Y/N.
Annabeth fingered her bead necklace, the way she does when she’s worried.
“You’ll see,” she said. But she didn’t explain.
As they headed through Brooklyn, he used Annabeth’s phone to call his mom. They rode in silence after that. The city melted away until they were off the expressway and rolling through the countryside of northern Long Island, past orchards and wineries and fresh produce stands.
Percy stared at the phone number Rachel Elizabeth Dare had scrawled on his hand. He knew it was crazy, but he was tempted to call her. Maybe she could help him understand what theempousa had been talking about—the camp burning, friends imprisoned. And why had Kelli exploded into flames?
Monsters never truly died. Eventually—maybe weeks, months, or years from now—Kelli would re-form out of the primordial nastiness seething in the Underworld. But still, monsters didn’t usually let themselves get destroyed so easily. If she really was destroyed.
The silence in the cab made Percy think over some of the other things too.
Firstly, he wasn't expecting a warm welcome. But this was something that absolutely did not cross his mind. This damn dude walking with their stuff with damn dimples on his face.
When Annabeth and Percy contacted Y/N's parents, her mother seemed to absolutely detest Annabeth's voice, which made him take away the phone and beg for her address. Of course, he knew that his actions were not as bad as Annabeth's.
That is, excluding the fact that he kissed her back on the ship.
Speaking of kisses, Percy's eyes went toward Y/N's lips. It was not news to them that she was living away from her parents, alone. But it was a piece of awfully surprising and almost bitter news to know that she was with Harris in her apartment. Her lips looked glossier than usual.
Oh.
Now that he noticed, she was definitely not dressed like she usually does in camp. She was dressed very differently.
She was dressed to look pretty.
He looked away to the front, setting his eyes on the road ahead. The mere thought of it was making him feel all stupid and itchy. A stupid question of why lingered in his mind. But more than that the other question seemed to be more bothersome.
Pretty for who?

just an idea but awkwardly timed IMs lol, those fics always make me laugh and you are very good at capturing humor
*NOTE: I’m still closed to prompts for now, probably until at least the end of the year, as life is quite busy at the moment.  But I’m trying to catch up on some backlogged requests that have been sitting there for a few months since before I closed.  So, I’ll have a few up over the next couple of weeks—my goal is to have them all posted before Chalice of the Gods comes along and expands canon again, ha.  Again, not accepting any new prompt requests at this time—I’ll see how my schedule looks in January and revisit the idea then 😊  In the meantime, enjoy the four or five coming up.
Oh, also, chapters 2 through 4 of my AHS senior year Percy and Annabeth story have also been posted.  This story is written under my TraitorousHearts8 pseud, so it’s a little more YA than middle-grade, but it’s available to read on Fanfiction and AO3 if you’re interested!  The last two chapters should be up over the next week or two.
Alright, back to the prompt response!*
Okay, I kind of loved this one and it was fun to do some semi-awkward IMs.  Hope you enjoy!
PERCY:  The Greek gods have terrible timing.  For example, one once interrupted me in the shower.  Long story.  I’m not discussing it right now.  Demigods do a little better.  But sometimes, they have bad timing, too.  For example, during my freshman year of high school, I was in the bathroom at my mom’s apartment, going…well, doing what you do in the bathroom, when, suddenly, the air in front of me shimmered.  Charles Beckendorf’s face appeared a moment later.  “Hey, Percy, got a question for—” he said before his eyes widened.
I yelped and swiped through the I-M.
Once I was out of the bathroom and standing near the kitchen sink, using its water to make a misty rainbow, I messaged him back.
“Uh, hey, dude,” Beckendorf said sheepishly.  “My bad.”
“It’s okay,” I said, even though I still kind of wanted to curl up and die from embarrassment.  “You didn’t know.  But, uh, let’s not mention it again.  Ever.”
He nodded gravely.  “Anyway, the reason I was calling…” and he launched into a Titan War-related question about an explosive device he was working on that could be added to the tour bus of monsters we’d received reports on.
Later, I learned that he’d rigged this device in the bus’s toilet.  I tried not to take that too personally.  And I definitely did not ask him what had inspired the idea.
ANNABETH:  Usually, I have way better luck than Percy.  Which isn’t actually saying much because he has absolutely terrible luck.  Which probably explains why this happened.  It was during the fall of my freshman year of high school, during the Titan War.  I was at my dad’s in San Francisco, and Percy and I hadn’t caught up for a few weeks.  Things had been weird between us ever since our quest in the Labyrinth that summer.  But we were trying.  Unfortunately, Percy chose to reach out via Iris-message…while I was in the shower.
I was washing my hair when suddenly, from behind me, I heard, “Hey, Annabeth—aagh!”  I turned, hands already up over my chest, to see Percy, bright strawberry red, covering his eyes and swiping through an I-M.
I called him back ten minutes later from my bedroom, fully dressed, though my hair was still wet and tangled.
As soon as his face appeared, Percy sputtered, “Annabeth, I am so sorry—”
I held up a hand.  “We will never speak of this again.”
“Agreed.”

A couple years later, on the Argo II, Hazel was talking about I-Ms.
“They’re great,” she said.  “But it seems a little risky.  I mean, we surprised Reyna in the baths.”
The corner of Percy’s mouth quirked up.  “Yeah, this one time, I called Annabeth and—”
“I thought we were never speaking of it?”
“Oh yeah.  So, anyway, is that a flock of harpies closing in again?  I’d better go check.”
After he ran off, Hazel raised her eyebrows at me.  I sighed.  “He called me once while I was in the shower.”
“Oh.”  She fanned herself, an old-fashioned gesture that somehow seemed natural on her.  “See?  Risky.”
I nodded.  “For sure.  Oh crap, those actually are harpies.  We’d better go help him.”
And that was the end of that conversation.
